- 0:28Speaker 2: I can't wait. The Cincinnati Bengals are around the corner.
- 0:31Speaker 3: He's going to beat him. He's like giddy, Yeah, giddy, excited.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Bailey's happy, yeah, outright cut which I think most fans
- 0:40Speaker 2: what was the option?
- 0:41Speaker 4: I think most kind I saw most.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Of the game, but some of it I was blocked
- 0:45Speaker 2: out by this I person who decided that she was
- 0:48Speaker 2: going to test all the ports in front of us
- 0:50Speaker 2: the middle of the game.
- 0:51Speaker 4: Yeah, first of all, I would have had to have
- 0:53Speaker 4: looked at it to be able to ignore it. Everything
- 0:56Speaker 4: I hate about content, But whatever.
- 0:59Speaker 2: The content you looked at.
- 1:00Speaker 5: Blizze was saying what I can I'll put his money
- 1:03Speaker 5: down right there.
- 1:04Speaker 4: He's on.
- 1:05Speaker 5: People have an eye for talent. Brandon Thorn had a
- 1:09Speaker 5: nice cut up of Lane Robinson and a.
- 1:11Speaker 4: Loss like, I guess I just don't know anything about football.
- 1:14Speaker 3: This is Patriot's Unfiltered.

- 1:22Speaker 2: All Right, Welcome the Patriots unfiltered. It is Thursday here
- 1:26Speaker 2: at you Let's Stadium.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Nailed it, Yeah, nailed it.
- 1:30Speaker 2: I got the day right. So we're starting off on
- 1:32Speaker 2: the right foot. It is deuced Paul Evan, myself, Matt
- 1:36Speaker 2: and the booth and we're coming here after the big
- 1:40Speaker 2: news broke this morning by Adam Schefter and in Rappaport
- 1:47Speaker 2: that Jake Jake Jacoby Brissette jakeset Kobe Brissett is the
- 1:54Speaker 2: starting quarterback for at least week one and probably for
- 1:58Speaker 2: a few weeks after that anyway. And then Gerard Mayo
- 2:02Speaker 2: came and addressed the media, uh and reiterated what the
- 2:07Speaker 2: breaking news was for a couple of minutes. And now
- 2:11Speaker 2: we know it's not a secret anymore. And I don't
- 2:14Speaker 2: think anyone's surprised. I'm disappointed me too, but not surprised.
- 2:23Speaker 4: Everybody.
- 2:28Speaker 3: So what do we think, guys? I usually let Paul
- 2:31Speaker 3: go first. That's why I was.
- 2:32Speaker 4: I'm disappointed. If if you guys insist I was, you know,
- 2:36Speaker 4: I had obviously this is the way it was trending,
- 2:39Speaker 4: and this is what we all thought was going to happen.
- 2:41Speaker 4: But you can hope to be wrong. And I was
- 2:43Speaker 4: hoping I was wrong.
- 2:44Speaker 3: I was.
- 2:44Speaker 4: I wanted to see May. I totally understand the reasoning,
- 2:48Speaker 4: you know, the the you know, shortcomings of the rest
- 2:52Speaker 4: of the offense, you know, offensive line and receivers and
- 2:56Speaker 4: all that. But I thought that that May was making
- 2:58Speaker 4: a lot of progress, and I thought he was pushing
- 3:01Speaker 4: to play sooner than later. But I could be patient.
- 3:03Speaker 5: Yeah, unfortunate part now is you don't really get to
- 3:05Speaker 5: see May anymore, like until he gets a start, if
- 3:08Speaker 5: he gets to start, you know, like that, that's what's
- 3:11Speaker 5: disappointing to me. Well, it was fun watching We're all
- 3:14Speaker 5: working on our Drake Maine impressions. As you might be
- 3:16Speaker 5: able to.
- 3:16Speaker 4: Tell, Mike will have the best one because he's better
- 3:19Speaker 4: at it.
- 3:19Speaker 5: And intensely he does. He doesn't do that and intensely
- 3:23Speaker 5: it kind of throws.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Me off and I'm asking him a question because he
- 3:26Speaker 3: stares at me like just like that. Yeah, not a
- 3:30Speaker 3: big deal.
- 3:31Speaker 5: At all, but it just so that that was Look,
- 3:33Speaker 5: that was the funnest part of the summer, right, watching
- 3:35Speaker 5: him play and develop and stuff. So no, we don't
- 3:38Speaker 5: we don't get to watch practice anyway. So I guess
- 3:39Speaker 5: it's not that big of a deal. But but that's
- 3:41Speaker 5: what you're not gonna Se're gonna seehim on the sidelines
- 3:43Speaker 5: now or maybe some mop up team time when the
- 3:45Speaker 5: Patriots are blowing teams out and you know you just
- 3:47Speaker 5: have to wait for those.
- 3:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:50Speaker 3: I was pretty fired up after the press conference. I'm
- 3:52Speaker 3: not gonna lie I was, and then I you know,
- 3:55Speaker 3: it's good that we had a couple of hours to
- 3:57Speaker 3: kind of let it take a maatgerate but before we
- 4:01Speaker 3: came on the show, because really, at the end of
- 4:04Speaker 3: the day, the reasons why I was mad had absolutely
- 4:06Speaker 3: nothing to do with football, and they were all selfish
- 4:09Speaker 3: and you're gonna hear a lot of that today. I
- 4:11Speaker 3: am sure that there's gonna be critiques of the press
- 4:15Speaker 3: conference and how it was handled and the whole situation,
- 4:19Speaker 3: But at the end of the day, none of that
- 4:20Speaker 3: really matters, and it was the right football decision to
- 4:24Speaker 3: start the season off with Jakobe were set. The one
- 4:26Speaker 3: thing that didn't make me feel great, and I understand
- 4:29Speaker 3: he kind of had to say it was him saying
- 4:32Speaker 3: for the season and then kind of doubling down on that.
- 4:36Speaker 3: I just felt like it was sort of ignoring the
- 4:38Speaker 3: elephant in the room, What would.
- 4:39Speaker 2: What would be the better way to explain it.
- 4:43Speaker 3: That Jacoby breseets our quarterback for now, for.
- 4:46Speaker 4: Now, and we'll just say he's our quarterback. He's our quarterback.
- 4:51Speaker 3: But I understand why he wanted to put his support
- 4:54Speaker 3: behind Jacoby. But you drafted Drake May third overall for
- 4:57Speaker 3: a reason, and he has even to all of us
- 5:01Speaker 3: that he should play this season. Like, I don't think
- 5:04Speaker 3: we're in the red shirt ear conversation anymore with Drake May,
- 5:10Speaker 3: So that piece of it makes me worried that they
- 5:13Speaker 3: might look at that piece of it a little bit different. Yeah,
- 5:16Speaker 3: I don't think.
- 5:16Speaker 2: I mean, even yesterday when he wasn't telling us what
- 5:21Speaker 2: he was going to do, he kind of did when
- 5:22Speaker 2: he said what's good right now may not be good
- 5:25Speaker 2: a few weeks from now, right Yeah, you know, so
- 5:28Speaker 2: who I guess he could be talking about other positions,
- 5:31Speaker 2: but I think we all assume he's talking about the quarterback.
- 5:35Speaker 4: That's how I took that yesterday.
- 5:36Speaker 5: And I feel like he can't lose. It's like they're
- 5:38Speaker 5: either gonna win with Jacoby Brissett or you're gonna get
- 5:41Speaker 5: to see Drake May right. I mean, I know there'll
- 5:42Speaker 5: be some timing, but generally that's yeah. I mean, they's
- 5:47Speaker 5: not gonna keep rolling Jacoby Brissett out and they're terrible.
- 5:49Speaker 5: I mean, I mean that will be the only really
- 5:51Speaker 5: bad case in right.
- 5:51Speaker 3: But like, barring them being four or five and zero,
- 5:56Speaker 3: you're still going to Drake May when he's ready like that.
- 5:59Speaker 3: That's sort of where I I you know, Ryan Fitzpatrick
- 6:02Speaker 3: was I think three and three with Miami something like that,
- 6:04Speaker 3: and they were in the hunt and they were playing
- 6:06Speaker 3: pretty well, and they still made the change to Tua, right,
- 6:09Speaker 3: And I just feel like that's that's the one thing
- 6:12Speaker 3: that I was a little bit dead the decision was
- 6:14Speaker 3: was we all could have seen that coming from a
- 6:16Speaker 3: mile away that day we're gonna name Jacobe with the starter,
- 6:19Speaker 3: But it just feels to me like you have to
- 6:22Speaker 3: acknowledge the fact that Drake is still the future of
- 6:25Speaker 3: this team. Yeah.
- 6:27Speaker 2: The only thing I would say that I disagree a
- 6:30Speaker 2: little bit, at least for me personally. I didn't see
- 6:34Speaker 2: it a mile away. I thought there was a good
- 6:37Speaker 2: chance that they were gonna tell us that Drake May
- 6:40Speaker 2: was going to start Week one.
- 6:42Speaker 4: Yeah, but we were just out there.
- 6:43Speaker 3: I practice it all summer long, and it never wavered.
- 6:47Speaker 4: You're not giving up yet, are you?
- 6:49Speaker 3: Oh?
- 6:49Speaker 4: I was still in play. They haven't played yet.
- 6:51Speaker 3: That's true.
- 6:52Speaker 4: I know, I know how you operate.
- 6:53Speaker 2: That's true.
- 6:54Speaker 4: That's true.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Yeah, not wrong until you're wrong.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Yeah, mathematically out of it ye, yeah, they still have
- 6:59Speaker 2: day left. Yeah.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Yeah, it never waivered. Like even Jacoby said it after
- 7:06Speaker 3: when we talked to him in the locker room. He
- 7:08Speaker 3: was with the ones all summer, Drake said it. Yeah,
- 7:11Speaker 3: he's taken one's.
- 7:13Speaker 2: You're right. And the question I have now is now
- 7:17Speaker 2: that Jacoby is going to be the starter, he's going
- 7:20Speaker 2: to get the reps this week to get ready for Cincinnati,
- 7:23Speaker 2: how do you give May enough preach, you know, during
- 7:28Speaker 2: the season now where you're getting ready every week for
- 7:31Speaker 2: another team, where you know, okay, now's the time.
- 7:34Speaker 5: Yeah, that's what they asked him in the locker room today,
- 7:35Speaker 5: was you know, what's your kind of plan now? I
- 7:38Speaker 5: mean it's I mean he clearly didn't have a firm answer.
- 7:41Speaker 5: He talked about some scout team reps and you know,
- 7:43Speaker 5: working with some of the younger players and trying to
- 7:45Speaker 5: help them develop and you know, making the most of
- 7:48Speaker 5: his second team opportunities. So I I mean, it's a
- 7:50Speaker 5: great question, and especially if they care about him as
- 7:53Speaker 5: much as we think that they should, like he needs
- 7:56Speaker 5: to be developed. Still, it can't just be and now
- 7:58Speaker 5: Drake goes in, like you would hope that there's going
- 7:59Speaker 5: to be some real competitive chances to get him in
- 8:02Speaker 5: and really try.
- 8:03Speaker 4: And I think there will be. I think they'll probably
- 8:05Speaker 4: do stuff. Let's you know, and I hate talking like
- 8:08Speaker 4: this because it sounds so negative and defeatist, but let's
- 8:12Speaker 4: sort of try to be as realistic as possible. Like,
- 8:14Speaker 4: let's say it doesn't get off to a great start,
- 8:17Speaker 4: and I don't know how many weeks that would be.
- 8:19Speaker 4: You know, let's just say four, because I think you
- 8:21Speaker 4: break it up into quarters. Let's they're one in three
- 8:24Speaker 4: or zero and four or something. You know, at some
- 8:27Speaker 4: point that's gonna say to them, Okay, you know this
- 8:32Speaker 4: isn't working. We're gonna need to go to the rookie.
- 8:34Speaker 4: I don't think, as Mike said, you can just say, Okay, Drake,
- 8:37Speaker 4: may you're starting this week. No, you need to treat
- 8:41Speaker 4: the week. You know, at some point, like Brissette gets
- 8:43Speaker 4: some of the reps and may get some of the reps,
- 8:45Speaker 4: and it's a process. And maybe you do that for
- 8:48Speaker 4: a week or two and then you prepare May for
- 8:51Speaker 4: the whole week and he starts like, I don't know
- 8:53Speaker 4: if that's week five, I don't know if it's week eight.
- 8:55Speaker 4: I don't know what week it is. Yeah, but you
- 8:57Speaker 4: can't just say it's percent percent percent getting all the
- 9:00Speaker 4: first team reps and then okay, it's not working with him.
- 9:03Speaker 4: May's in there this week. You have to get him
- 9:05Speaker 4: reps too.
- 9:06Speaker 5: I practice advocate putting May in in games that are
- 9:09Speaker 5: not really you know, I'm not saying that they're getting
- 9:11Speaker 5: blown out, but.
- 9:12Speaker 4: Okay, let's just that people say San Francisco, like, let's
- 9:17Speaker 4: say the second half goes the way that a lot
- 9:18Speaker 4: of people think it's going to go. Does he get
- 9:20Speaker 4: his feet wet there and then start the next week.
- 9:22Speaker 2: I was just about to say, you know, could we
- 9:26Speaker 2: be maybe we're being thrown the biggest curveball at all
- 9:30Speaker 2: where yes, Jacoby's our starter, but we're going to find
- 9:33Speaker 2: spots to put May in during games. Yeah, not necessarily
- 9:37Speaker 2: a platoon like first half second half Michigan did with Brady.
- 9:41Speaker 4: But I don't see that, you know, I'm not telling you, well,
- 9:45Speaker 4: that's different.
- 9:45Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, well far betch.
- 9:48Speaker 2: But let's let's just say you're playing Cincinnati and you
- 9:52Speaker 2: get to the second half and it's three nothing. They're
- 9:54Speaker 2: winning and our defense is doing good. All we're going
- 9:58Speaker 2: to do is score a couple of touchdowns. We can
- 9:59Speaker 2: win this game. But Jacoby is not doing anything.
- 10:03Speaker 3: Is there a chance? Is there a chance?
- 10:06Speaker 5: I don't think there is, But I think about that
- 10:08Speaker 5: happening here, and I imagine that there's gonna be some
- 10:10Speaker 5: fans that are going to be chanting just like that,
- 10:13Speaker 5: you know, I mean that that's going to probably start
- 10:15Speaker 5: to build. Is I think that That's what I'm looking for.
- 10:17Speaker 5: Is the season goes on, it's how does the the
- 10:20Speaker 5: you know, the roar build for the fans of wanting
- 10:23Speaker 5: to see him, Like how ineffective or effective is the offense?
- 10:27Speaker 5: If the offense is really ineffective and the defense is
- 10:29Speaker 5: keeping a minute like they had the last couple of years,
- 10:31Speaker 5: you know, I can easily see.
- 10:33Speaker 2: A situation, no doubt, if the if the offense is
- 10:36Speaker 2: spark and the defense is playing fairly well and they're
- 10:40Speaker 2: at home, the Drake may chance will be audible.
- 10:43Speaker 3: I honestly I'm sure that that will happen, but I
- 10:48Speaker 3: almost feel like I would be clamoring for him more
- 10:51Speaker 3: if it was going well. Because if it's if the
- 10:54Speaker 3: protection isn't terrible and this offensive line is coming together
- 10:58Speaker 3: and it's not as terrible as we all gone well
- 11:00Speaker 3: on the scoreboard, it doesn't it's irrelevant to No, it
- 11:03Speaker 3: isn't it is because I think if they're scoring points,
- 11:06Speaker 3: I don't think people will be that impatient. I would
- 11:10Speaker 3: say that people like me that are Drake may guys
- 11:13Speaker 3: will say, well, it'd be even better if you have
- 11:15Speaker 3: Drake No.
- 11:16Speaker 2: But but you hear what I'm saying, like, if there's
- 11:18Speaker 2: scoring points that it's like, Okay, he's seeing the offense,
- 11:22Speaker 2: he's you know, doing that whole learning from the bench
- 11:24Speaker 2: thing and and all that. I don't think it's people
- 11:27Speaker 2: would be as impatient if, like in my scenario where
- 11:30Speaker 2: we just can't score points and the defense is keeping
- 11:33Speaker 2: us in games again and it's just not fair. I
- 11:37Speaker 2: hear what you're Let's give the offense a chance. And
- 11:41Speaker 2: I feel bad for Jacoby Brissett that we're talking this way,
- 11:43Speaker 2: by the way, but if.
- 11:44Speaker 3: The offense is a train wreck and they're not scoring
- 11:47Speaker 3: points and Jacoby's under siege and he can't get the
- 11:50Speaker 3: ball off. Why would you want to put Drake May
- 11:52Speaker 3: into that situation? Well, again, you.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Have to have context. Why is he under siege? Is
- 11:57Speaker 2: the under siege because he's not making decisions?
- 12:00Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 12:01Speaker 2: Like, you know what, like a better quarterback can sometimes
- 12:04Speaker 2: help the offensive line.
- 12:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I would just be for me, I would just
- 12:08Speaker 3: be much more inclined to put Drake May in there
- 12:11Speaker 3: if it actually looks better than what we thought it was.
- 12:13Speaker 2: So the offense is a little bit more ready for me.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I get what you're saying.
- 12:17Speaker 2: And I think if that was the case, maybe there'd
- 12:19Speaker 2: be more of a push to start in week one
- 12:21Speaker 2: if it looked good. So let me let's let's hit
- 12:24Speaker 2: on that topic a little bit. This morning, I'm listening
- 12:27Speaker 2: to one of Paul's shows and Michael Holly was the
- 12:30Speaker 2: fill in host, and he was he was on the
- 12:34Speaker 2: side where everybody else on the show was, you know,
- 12:36Speaker 2: this offensive line is the worst in the league. It's
- 12:39Speaker 2: a train wreck. Blah blah blah. He was saying, Listen,
- 12:42Speaker 2: it's not that bad. Washington looked bad obviously, because but
- 12:46Speaker 2: it was mistakes. It wasn't that they couldn't block anyone.
- 12:49Speaker 2: It said they were making stupid mistakes. They have enough talent.
- 12:53Speaker 2: This is his words, that they can block people. David
- 12:57Speaker 2: Andrews can block people, Big Mike can block people. You know,
- 13:00Speaker 2: even Leyden Robinson Waiting has the talent to block people.
- 13:04Speaker 2: He said, it's not that bad, you know.
- 13:07Speaker 4: So I don't think it was that bad against Washington
- 13:12Speaker 4: other than all the obvious mistakes with the penalties, right,
- 13:16Speaker 4: it was that bad against Philadelphia and.
- 13:18Speaker 2: The joint practice, Oh yeah, no doubt.
- 13:20Speaker 4: When the only time they played against starters it was
- 13:23Speaker 4: a trainer. I think it was fourteen sacks. Yeah, like
- 13:27Speaker 4: they couldn't block. It wasn't just mistakes. I agreed with
- 13:30Speaker 4: the panel in that discussion. Not Michael.
- 13:33Speaker 5: I got another good view of that. The Eagles put
- 13:35Speaker 5: out this whole, like fifteen minute video of their whole
- 13:38Speaker 5: preseason in training camp, and they had some video from
- 13:40Speaker 5: training camp with Brandon Graham miked up and chirping the
- 13:43Speaker 5: whole time of the Patriots. It was just interesting we
- 13:45Speaker 5: put out our video of miked up. I think Peppers
- 13:47Speaker 5: was micd up, but getting to see Brondon Grahm chirping
- 13:51Speaker 5: at everybody, and he had a couple flying off the
- 13:54Speaker 5: edge and oh, I got you know, the same thing
- 13:55Speaker 5: Pep had. It's just interesting. But yeah, I agree with Paul.
- 13:59Speaker 5: I mean, I think that's why I just want to
- 14:01Speaker 5: get going, like I just want to get a game, like,
- 14:03Speaker 5: let's just get one under our belt. That's why I
- 14:05Speaker 5: was okay with Jacobe. Let's see what these real problems are.
- 14:08Speaker 5: I mean, if those two guys off the edges are
- 14:10Speaker 5: you know, cousin havoc against our tackles as a Hendrickson.
- 14:13Speaker 4: And I'm with you to an extent, Fred Pubber, I'm
- 14:16Speaker 4: not sure how good it is, but you can play
- 14:20Speaker 4: like this is. They are NFL players and they can
- 14:23Speaker 4: play the game like it's not all fill ins. Like
- 14:27Speaker 4: to your point, Andrews in a one ye will be
- 14:30Speaker 4: out there. I don't know who the other three will
- 14:32Speaker 4: be right now, because I know, like like Girodmeo yesterday
- 14:36Speaker 4: said that it looks like Citiso avoided a serious injury.
- 14:40Speaker 4: That doesn't mean he's gonna be able to play right
- 14:42Speaker 4: against Cincinnati.
- 14:43Speaker 3: He hasn't been practicing, you know.
- 14:45Speaker 4: And Vederian Lowe, you know, is not Pradon. So I
- 14:47Speaker 4: don't know who's actually going to be out there, but
- 14:50Speaker 4: if it's chokes A Kora four, yeah, we don't think
- 14:52Speaker 4: he's played all that well, but he's an NFL player,
- 14:55Speaker 4: they should you know, I don't anticipate this being like
- 14:58Speaker 4: one of those ten sacks games that man, this was embarrassing, right,
- 15:03Speaker 4: So I'm sort of in the middle. I don't necessarily
- 15:06Speaker 4: think it's just gonna be fine. Yeah, but I also
- 15:09Speaker 4: don't think it's gonna be completely derailed. You can't run
- 15:12Speaker 4: an offense because your offensive line couldn't run.
- 15:14Speaker 5: Yeah, third and lungs to be scary, Like, I think
- 15:15Speaker 5: that's you know where you're gonna get concerned.
- 15:17Speaker 4: You're gonna get a lot of screens.
- 15:19Speaker 5: But then that's that was the other point I was
- 15:20Speaker 5: gonna make is that they're gonna they're gonna try to
- 15:23Speaker 5: avoid their weaknesses and they're gonna try to attack the other,
- 15:25Speaker 5: you know, the defense's weaknesses. So how does it all
- 15:28Speaker 5: come together? You know, it's just it's such a you know,
- 15:30Speaker 5: there's a chemistry to it that you don't really have
- 15:32Speaker 5: any idea of. And that's every NFL team right now.
- 15:34Speaker 2: It's you know, last year, they used a lot of
- 15:36Speaker 2: screens and quick passes and they just didn't work that well.
- 15:39Speaker 4: You know.
- 15:40Speaker 3: Yeah, that was another reason to me, like not the
- 15:42Speaker 3: main reason to maybe not go with Drake may to
- 15:46Speaker 3: start the year, because putting him out there to throw
- 15:49Speaker 3: screens in quick game is it's not helping him develop.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Like it's just, yes, that might be how they need
- 15:54Speaker 3: to win games right now, but that's not you know,
- 15:57Speaker 3: him reading defenses and going through progressions and you know.
- 16:00Speaker 4: Doing all that kind of stuff.
- 16:01Speaker 3: So how valuable are those types of reps really if
- 16:04Speaker 3: you are an offense that is just focused on scheming
- 16:09Speaker 3: to avoid pressure, Like that's literally all you're able to
- 16:12Speaker 3: do offensively. Is like what we've seen in the last
- 16:15Speaker 3: couple of years. The tape against Washington was better than
- 16:18Speaker 3: I thought it was watching live. That's not to say
- 16:21Speaker 3: it was good with the offensive line against the Commanders,
- 16:24Speaker 3: but watching live, I felt like the Eagles joint practice
- 16:27Speaker 3: where I was like this was felt like the quarterbacks
- 16:29Speaker 3: were under siege, like Jacobe gets hurt like instantly on
- 16:33Speaker 3: you know, how can you say it's a good game
- 16:35Speaker 3: when the starting quarterback is already injured from playing behind
- 16:38Speaker 3: this line? When you watched it back. They were under
- 16:41Speaker 3: pressure on seven of their twenty six dropbacks between Brissett
- 16:44Speaker 3: and May. That's not terrible. That's that's not terrible. But
- 16:50Speaker 3: a penalties and quarterbacks.
- 16:52Speaker 2: They're yeah, they're non starters.
- 16:54Speaker 5: So that's why I'm just over the qualifiers the preseason
- 16:57Speaker 5: and who was playing and who wasn't. It's like, let's
- 17:00Speaker 5: just get real concrete information. There ones are ones. It's
- 17:03Speaker 5: a real game. There's tackling to the ground, the whole deal,
- 17:06Speaker 5: you know. And then that Monday you say, all right,
- 17:07Speaker 5: this is what it's this is where we're starting from,
- 17:09Speaker 5: and all.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Right, we should go over some of the personal moves
- 17:12Speaker 2: guys coming and going, uh, Mike do.
- 17:15Speaker 3: So I did?
- 17:16Speaker 5: I did color coded, So there was there was a
- 17:19Speaker 5: bunch of movement to be well, I guess we didn't
- 17:21Speaker 5: even run down the four guys that they signed off waivers,
- 17:25Speaker 5: which was Trey Jacobs. Is that right, Evan?
- 17:27Speaker 6: You talked to Tray Trey Jacobs as well as Zachary Thomas,
- 17:33Speaker 6: and then they signed Eric Johnson, a linebacker, as well
- 17:37Speaker 6: as one.
- 17:37Speaker 5: More where's the last one?
- 17:40Speaker 4: Curtis Jacobs.
- 17:41Speaker 5: Curtis Jacobs and Eric Johnson Yeah, the two defense, So
- 17:44Speaker 5: two guys on defense, two offensive linemen. Jacobs is a tackle.
- 17:49Speaker 5: I was watching some of him. He played some left
- 17:50Speaker 5: tackle for Denver and then Tom there you go, Polly Uh.
- 17:57Speaker 5: And then reportedly they've signed h Bryan Hudson, a center
- 18:01Speaker 5: who was with Detroit in training kids.
- 18:03Speaker 3: That sounds like a practice squad.
- 18:04Speaker 5: Practice practice squad, practice squad guy. And it does look
- 18:09Speaker 5: like the guys that they released yesterday, which included Jalenrager.
- 18:13Speaker 5: Kind of surprised a little bit on him being one
- 18:15Speaker 5: of the release guys. Isaiah. We don't know about Isaiah
- 18:17Speaker 5: Olden yet. We're still waiting to hear on him. But
- 18:19Speaker 5: Jalen Rager is back, as well as Uh.
- 18:23Speaker 4: Tristan Tristan hill Reger, and Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan, they
- 18:27Speaker 4: were all in the locker room. We don't know what
- 18:29Speaker 4: their status will be.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Yea practice on the practice squad.
- 18:35Speaker 5: Yeah, it's gonna be a disappointing conversation for somebody like
- 18:38Speaker 5: you know, Rager, especially who kind of signs. We all
- 18:41Speaker 5: kind of felt like, I mean, I felt like you
- 18:43Speaker 5: would make it over Booty, but maybe Age at the
- 18:45Speaker 5: end of the day, maybe it's you know, a little
- 18:47Speaker 5: bit un potential.
- 18:48Speaker 4: So I just like I had a and I don't
- 18:49Speaker 4: know if this is right, but my theory on that
- 18:52Speaker 4: was the four guys they released, Tristan Hill, Jalen Rager,
- 18:56Speaker 4: Michael Jordan, the three of them, they don't have to
- 18:58Speaker 4: clear waivers. Yeah, they're all veterans, so you can release
- 19:01Speaker 4: them and you can say we have plans for you
- 19:05Speaker 4: stick around. We got to wait and then, you know,
- 19:08Speaker 4: sometimes that happens like Brian Hoyer did that, you know,
- 19:11Speaker 4: one year, and I think the Colts gave him ten
- 19:14Speaker 4: million dollars so he signed with with the Colts and
- 19:17Speaker 4: he ended up leaving. But Bolden would be the only
- 19:21Speaker 4: one of those four guys that had to clear waivers, correct,
- 19:23Speaker 4: So I think if they had put Booty, you know,
- 19:26Speaker 4: if it was rigor over Booty might to you a point.
- 19:29Speaker 4: Now you got to worry about the waiver process. Maybe
- 19:31Speaker 4: he clears, and I don't know, but just you know,
- 19:34Speaker 4: second year receiver, maybe he doesn't. Maybe someone's you know,
- 19:37Speaker 4: looking for wide receiver depth and they take a shot
- 19:39Speaker 4: at him, whereas they're not necessarily doing that with Reger,
- 19:43Speaker 4: who they're going to have to give some money to
- 19:46Speaker 4: because otherwise he's just going to stay here where he's
- 19:48Speaker 4: already comfortable.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Mike, you mentioned, you know, it might have been a
- 19:51Speaker 2: you know, a difficult conversation, and you know made me think, Paul,
- 19:55Speaker 2: you were talking, we were talking earlier last night, the
- 19:58Speaker 2: Patriots had their Premiere, which is their you know, main
- 20:02Speaker 2: fundraising event where everybody comes. It's a mandatory event for
- 20:06Speaker 2: all the players and coaches to attend. And you know,
- 20:09Speaker 2: Gerard get introduced by Devin mccordy, who was the MC.
- 20:15Speaker 2: And you know, Devin was kind of making fun of
- 20:18Speaker 2: Gerard a little bit because he was kind of walking
- 20:19Speaker 2: slow getting up there. And you mentioned and I kind
- 20:23Speaker 2: of agree, like, I'll bet you this was a tough
- 20:25Speaker 2: week for Gerard Mail. You know, forget about just making
- 20:28Speaker 2: the starting quarterback decision, but having to make all these
- 20:32Speaker 2: first time that, you know, having to look guys in
- 20:35Speaker 2: the face who worked their butts off all, you know,
- 20:38Speaker 2: since the spring and say you know, you're you're not
- 20:41Speaker 2: good enough to make the team. I'll bet you that
- 20:43Speaker 2: was tough for him, having you know, done it the
- 20:45Speaker 2: first time. I'll bet you that he insisted on doing
- 20:47Speaker 2: it himself, you know, so I bet you that kind
- 20:54Speaker 2: of war on him over the week.
- 20:55Speaker 5: It seemed like yesterday and yesterday's press conference that was
- 20:58Speaker 5: almost the tone. Like the way he came up, I
- 20:59Speaker 5: think was like, good afternoon, it's still you were like, yeah,
- 21:02Speaker 5: you can tell it's you know, it's tough, and I mean,
- 21:05Speaker 5: let's face it, as we said on last year, i mean, yeah,
- 21:07Speaker 5: you're the rubbers meeting the road now in terms of
- 21:10Speaker 5: being an NFL head coach and everything that comes with
- 21:12Speaker 5: that and all the hard decisions and all the responsibility
- 21:14Speaker 5: that lands with you that you made these decisions and
- 21:17Speaker 5: when you say things and what you don't say and
- 21:19Speaker 5: all those things. Just you know, it's a it's a
- 21:21Speaker 5: constant battle for these guys, and I think they're probably
- 21:24Speaker 5: excited to just get away from all these decisions and
- 21:27Speaker 5: get into the regular season, like we said, and you know,
- 21:30Speaker 5: and then it's about the games, and I mean, who
- 21:31Speaker 5: knows what it's going to be like, but you know,
- 21:33Speaker 5: then you just kind of focus on, right, we're on
- 21:35Speaker 5: this game, and then you know we're onto Cincinnati, that
- 21:37Speaker 5: old thing. So but yeah, I agree totally. I mean,
- 21:39Speaker 5: this is this is it. I mean, it's a really
- 21:41Speaker 5: really hard job. There's a reason why, you know, it's
- 21:44Speaker 5: it's you're at the forefront of this whole organization making
- 21:46Speaker 5: decisions and he's new at it.
- 21:48Speaker 3: Yeah, it definitely seemed like yesterday because somebody asked him,
- 21:52Speaker 3: why didn't you just tell the team yesterday about the
- 21:55Speaker 3: starting quarterback decision, because he said he had already made
- 21:57Speaker 3: the decision, and it I thought he was genuine when
- 22:01Speaker 3: he said, this has been kind of an hectic morning,
- 22:04Speaker 3: like this has not been all sunshines and rainbows for
- 22:06Speaker 3: me the last twenty four hours, and I kind of
- 22:10Speaker 3: seemed like you wanted to just take a breath for
- 22:12Speaker 3: a second and just reset from move from cuts to.
- 22:16Speaker 4: Now, you know, worrying about who's starting.
- 22:18Speaker 2: And it's not like he can just like go over
- 22:20Speaker 2: the speakerphone and say, you know, like in school, all right,
- 22:23Speaker 2: we're going to have a class assembly now and everybody gather.
- 22:26Speaker 2: You know, it's there's a little bit more to it,
- 22:28Speaker 2: so you know, we had to get everybody in one
- 22:30Speaker 2: place and tell everybody in person. So you're involved in
- 22:35Speaker 2: making all these cuts at the same time. So this
- 22:38Speaker 2: was probably, you know, the first big thing where Gerard said, oh,
- 22:45Speaker 2: you know, this is being a head coach.
- 22:46Speaker 3: In the NFL.
- 22:47Speaker 5: It's moving part.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Yeah, there could be a lot of things happening at
- 22:50Speaker 2: the same time, so you know, for what that's worth.
- 22:55Speaker 2: You know, a lot of people criticize how it was
- 22:57Speaker 2: handled today. I thought it was infit efficient, but you know,
- 23:02Speaker 2: who knows what's going on behind the scenes. You know,
- 23:05Speaker 2: I'm sure this was a lot for a first time
- 23:08Speaker 2: head coach today.
- 23:09Speaker 3: Yeah, like I said earlier, if you were if you're
- 23:14Speaker 3: critiquing them for that, then you're just being selfish. Yeah,
- 23:16Speaker 3: like you're just mad that you like selfish. Like I'm
- 23:20Speaker 3: fully selfish too.
- 23:21Speaker 2: If we're gonna leak it, I'd rather have Patriots dot
- 23:24Speaker 2: Com leak it than Adam Schefter. But I get how
- 23:26Speaker 2: that works. I get how it works. But all I
- 23:29Speaker 2: can say is once it leaked, and just send out
- 23:31Speaker 2: a tweet that this is the decision. You don't need
- 23:34Speaker 2: to have a press conference after that.
- 23:36Speaker 5: Yeah, it was good that we got to go in
- 23:38Speaker 5: and talk to Jakobe and Drake, both of those guys
- 23:41Speaker 5: in the locker room right after. So it's a little
- 23:42Speaker 5: bit of this new setup now where you know the
- 23:45Speaker 5: guys are Actually it's going to.
- 23:46Speaker 3: Be a problem right before.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Why that they're that May and Brissett's locker are right
- 23:52Speaker 2: next to each other. You're gonna have the media always
- 23:55Speaker 2: over there. It's gonna be tough for those two guys.
- 23:57Speaker 4: My guess is, Well, the starting quarterback, my guess will
- 24:00Speaker 4: go on Wednesdays in the media work room like they
- 24:03Speaker 4: always tap down, So you're not really dealing with one
- 24:06Speaker 4: of those guys, I guess. So now to your point,
- 24:10Speaker 4: the backup is going to be a story.
- 24:12Speaker 3: Right, They're going to go to after him every game.
- 24:14Speaker 4: The backup is going to be a story.
- 24:16Speaker 5: They got to go to Drake and be like, so
- 24:17Speaker 5: pretty rough game for the offense on Kobe's like time.
- 24:19Speaker 4: But even if it's May starting or sets a story.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Yeah, this is one of those things where Bill Bill
- 24:26Speaker 3: would never let Drake May talk right now, right Drake
- 24:31Speaker 3: May would be you know, Aaron would be running after me. No, no,
- 24:34Speaker 3: you know right like there, No Drake May until he's
- 24:37Speaker 3: starting would be the rule. And now we'll see if
- 24:40Speaker 3: they're that strict about it, because I would be like,
- 24:43Speaker 3: there's all he's going to say is going to hurt himself.
- 24:46Speaker 3: There's no good that's going to come from him talking.
- 24:50Speaker 2: I don't know, what do you mean.
- 24:51Speaker 4: No, I don't know. I don't know if that works.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Not letting him talk or letting him talk, not.
- 24:56Speaker 4: Letting him talk. Like I heard like people and I
- 24:59Speaker 4: know what it different to you a point, like it's
- 25:01Speaker 4: different with a rookie, Like part of it is that
- 25:03Speaker 4: he's a rookie, and I get that, But like I
- 25:05Speaker 4: heard an argument on the radio, the Patriots botched this
- 25:08Speaker 4: whole Matthew Judon thing because they let him talk, And
- 25:13Speaker 4: I'm like, who the f of the Patriot like to say,
- 25:17Speaker 4: who can talk? Like Matthew Judon is a veteran in
- 25:20Speaker 4: this league, like you think Gered Mayo had the ability
- 25:23Speaker 4: to say you can't talk right now. Again, I know
- 25:25Speaker 4: it's different with a veteran as opposed to a rookie,
- 25:27Speaker 4: but I don't think that's a road you want to
- 25:29Speaker 4: be going down.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Well, particularly a guy like that. But I think with
- 25:32Speaker 2: a rookie, Bill would say you're not talking.
- 25:35Speaker 4: You know, keep a lid on it for a little bit,
- 25:36Speaker 4: Like you're not talking is different than keep a lid
- 25:39Speaker 4: on it.
- 25:40Speaker 7: You know.
- 25:43Speaker 4: He intimidated the players for the most part, to not
- 25:46Speaker 4: not talk. But I don't think that's the way they
- 25:48Speaker 4: want to do business. I don't think that's the way
- 25:51Speaker 4: Mayo wants to go about this. I agree, and I
- 25:54Speaker 4: think that if you just say don't talk, I don't
- 25:56Speaker 4: think that works.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Well, he's not required to talk, like during training camp,
- 26:01Speaker 3: Judon's required like they're required to make Judne available.
- 26:03Speaker 4: Players are required to be available.
- 26:07Speaker 3: They are, but he's a Drake would be required to
- 26:10Speaker 3: be available during the week after games if you don't
- 26:13Speaker 3: in the game.
- 26:14Speaker 4: No, no, no, like that. Yeah, I'm not talking necessarily
- 26:18Speaker 4: after a game. But their response there they are required
- 26:20Speaker 4: to be available.
- 26:21Speaker 2: You know.
- 26:21Speaker 4: That's the whole h On Lynch thing. Like I'm just
- 26:24Speaker 4: here so I don't get fined, right, Like there's there
- 26:26Speaker 4: is a minimum requirement. Now, no one here, no one
- 26:29Speaker 4: in well. I don't think no one in this media
- 26:32Speaker 4: corps is gonna call someone out and say, like, listen,
- 26:35Speaker 4: I've been in the locker room every day and uh,
- 26:38Speaker 4: you know, I haven't seen Leyden Robinson, Jimmy Collins since
- 26:41Speaker 4: the first since the first week. I don't think people
- 26:43Speaker 4: are going.
- 26:43Speaker 2: To do that, but they will if it's Drake may
- 26:46Speaker 2: But I do.
- 26:46Speaker 4: Think that people are going to want to talk to
- 26:48Speaker 4: Drake May. Yeah, pick, I don't. I don't think you
- 26:54Speaker 4: can just blanket. I totally get the point, but I
- 26:57Speaker 4: don't think you can just blank it tell someone you
- 26:59Speaker 4: can't talk.
- 27:00Speaker 3: Yeah, like slippery slow build.
- 27:02Speaker 4: Bill definitely intimidated people, you know, the players into sort
- 27:07Speaker 4: of being careful, especially the young guys. I don't think
- 27:11Speaker 4: that's the case anymore, that it would.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Be our suggestion to you that you do not speak.
- 27:16Speaker 3: You know, we wouldn't went on anything to happen.
- 27:19Speaker 4: You know, why are you doing? Because we can just
- 27:22Speaker 4: make fun of Italians every time we want morel You
- 27:26Speaker 4: heard them, just.
- 27:26Speaker 3: Mob guys, mob guys.
- 27:28Speaker 4: Oh so now all Italians mobbed up.
- 27:31Speaker 2: I didn't say that, you did.
- 27:32Speaker 3: I didn't say that.
- 27:33Speaker 4: I mean, got it.
- 27:34Speaker 3: Let's be honest.
- 27:38Speaker 5: That's it.
- 27:38Speaker 2: That's fine. You like Goodfellas, you like that movie.
- 27:42Speaker 4: I do like good Fellas. It's a good movie.
- 27:43Speaker 8: Good oil Boys, Get Jump.
- 27:47Speaker 3: Doesn't insult you good Fellas.
- 27:51Speaker 4: No, it's good movie.
- 27:52Speaker 2: All right. Web radio at pages dot com is the
- 27:54Speaker 2: email address eight five five pass five hundred is the
- 27:57Speaker 2: a stick and hotline? What else do we have? Anything else?
- 28:01Speaker 2: Before we talked about personnel, we talked about the quarterback decision.
- 28:05Speaker 4: People care about the practice squad doing care. I don't
- 28:08Speaker 4: think we well Mike cares well, I'm glad Jennings because
- 28:11Speaker 4: we didn't. But we didn't have that on Tuesday, right, Yeah,
- 28:13Speaker 4: these are show we like to be the show of record.
- 28:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't think the official ones that were signed
- 28:20Speaker 5: Terrell Jennings, Matt Landers, Mitchell Willcox, Liam Fournette, Dell, Kevin Harris,
- 28:25Speaker 5: A J. Thomas, and then we're assuming Brian Hudson and
- 28:29Speaker 5: Jalen Rager, Tristan Hill and maybe Bolden who.
- 28:32Speaker 4: Was one more, and there was seven guys that they officially.
- 28:35Speaker 5: Jatham Russell as well.
- 28:36Speaker 2: I was thinking about, you know, I know it's not fair,
- 28:39Speaker 2: but how things have changed where none of our guys
- 28:43Speaker 2: who got released were picked up by another team and
- 28:46Speaker 2: we picked up four players on waivers. You know that
- 28:50Speaker 2: used to not be the way, right.
- 28:52Speaker 4: Well, the four players is a lot. Yeah, looks for Carolina.
- 28:55Speaker 3: Yeah, I was a little surprised about four players and like,
- 29:01Speaker 3: no offense meant whatsoever to Eric Johnson, But like, is
- 29:04Speaker 3: Eric Johnson really better than Tristan Hill? Like, is that
- 29:08Speaker 3: that's really like a player? You felt like that's an upgrade,
- 29:11Speaker 3: like he's played a little bit more in the league maybe,
- 29:14Speaker 3: so like there's a little bit more experience there. But
- 29:16Speaker 3: we're not talking about one of these veteran guys that
- 29:19Speaker 3: was a cap casualty someplace else that has something left
- 29:22Speaker 3: in the tank, like or anything like that. I those ones,
- 29:25Speaker 3: I don't know. They obviously see something in him, but
- 29:27Speaker 3: it was like you're kind of moving the deck chairs.
- 29:30Speaker 4: You guys know these rules, I think a little bit
- 29:33Speaker 4: better than I do. Like, so the practice squad elevations,
- 29:37Speaker 4: yes to a game, So how many is a player allowed?
- 29:42Speaker 3: Three?
- 29:42Speaker 4: So can you elevate Tristan Hill to the active roster
- 29:46Speaker 4: the first three weeks of the season and then at
- 29:49Speaker 4: that point if you yeah, you know, because the guys
- 29:52Speaker 4: I should point out the guys that are on that
- 29:54Speaker 4: would claim no waivers, the four you know, the two
- 29:56Speaker 4: Jacobs and Johnson and who's the.
- 29:58Speaker 3: Other guy I don't know, Zach Thomas.
- 30:02Speaker 4: Zach Thomas's I forget of fame linebacker.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Linebacker.
- 30:06Speaker 4: So those four guys are required to remain on the
- 30:09Speaker 4: Patriots active roster for at least three weeks, yes, so
- 30:14Speaker 4: they don't have to be active for the game. They
- 30:15Speaker 4: just have to be on the active roster, so they
- 30:17Speaker 4: could be game day in actives. And to Evan's point,
- 30:20Speaker 4: is Tristan Hill probably in a better position to help
- 30:23Speaker 4: the team right now than Eric Johnson. So can you
- 30:26Speaker 4: have Eric Johnson one of the inactives and elevate Tristan
- 30:30Speaker 4: Hill from the practice squad? Probably can do that. Probably
- 30:33Speaker 4: can do that until you're sort of determining what those
- 30:36Speaker 4: guys can do.
- 30:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I was thinking now with the wide receivers as well.
- 30:39Speaker 4: Reager active, Javon Baker inactive, correct as an example.
- 30:43Speaker 3: And I wanted to bring that up because just like
- 30:46Speaker 3: every year we do this with the receivers. Last year
- 30:48Speaker 3: it was Keasehawan Boody that healthy scratch every single week
- 30:51Speaker 3: got people up in arms.
- 30:54Speaker 4: Baker.
- 30:55Speaker 3: There's a chance that we that Javon Baker is healthy scratch.
- 30:58Speaker 4: There's a chance that Baker and Booty could be unactive.
- 31:01Speaker 3: Yeah. Sure, and Jalen Raager elevated to return kicks activated,
- 31:05Speaker 3: you know, as more like a return man than anything,
- 31:08Speaker 3: And that would be I wouldn't be surprised.
- 31:11Speaker 4: Like I would say, you know, based on what we've
- 31:14Speaker 4: seen in the practice. You know, Polk Douglas, Thornton, and
- 31:19Speaker 4: Osborne will be active. Yeah in Week one. Barring an
- 31:23Speaker 4: injury between now and then, those four guys will I
- 31:25Speaker 4: would be pretty comfortable saying they'll be active after that.
- 31:30Speaker 4: I mean, maybe you have a fifth guy active, maybe
- 31:32Speaker 4: maybe the other guys are inactive.
- 31:35Speaker 2: You know, we were talking about the foot. The football
- 31:40Speaker 2: decision of making may Ja Kobe the starting quarterback is
- 31:44Speaker 2: a good one. You know, it's hard to argue with
- 31:46Speaker 2: the football reasoning behind that considering the state of the offense.
- 31:52Speaker 2: And to further I think emphasize that is, do we
- 31:56Speaker 2: know who the best receiver on this team is right now?
- 32:00Speaker 4: Who don't like in terms of.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Like, oh he's a w R one, like no, forget
- 32:06Speaker 2: about but who's the I have a guy that I
- 32:07Speaker 2: would pick, but I don't know who it is, right,
- 32:09Speaker 2: I mean, I would say Douglas, but I don't know.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Doesn't that further illustrate the fact that we have no
- 32:15Speaker 2: idea what this offense is and we have no idea
- 32:19Speaker 2: if we started may what we would be inserting him into.
- 32:22Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not just even it's that and they don't
- 32:25Speaker 3: know how they're going to move the ball, right.
- 32:26Speaker 4: That doesn't make sense. You know, I'm kidding.
- 32:30Speaker 2: I'm kidding inside Joe.
- 32:32Speaker 3: Oh, they don't even know how they're going to move
- 32:35Speaker 3: the ball right now?
- 32:36Speaker 4: Like what are you good at?
- 32:37Speaker 3: Right you know? Who are your go to guys? You know,
- 32:41Speaker 3: how are you going to run the ball? Are you
- 32:42Speaker 3: going to be able to run the ball? Exactly? Like
- 32:44Speaker 3: they don't know any of these things. And uh, you know,
- 32:47Speaker 3: I look at the first month of the season for
- 32:49Speaker 3: Alex van Pell like this is a information gathering time
- 32:54Speaker 3: frame right now, where when you get Drake May in there,
- 32:58Speaker 3: you better know what your identity is offense, Like how
- 33:00Speaker 3: are we going to move the ball, how are we
- 33:02Speaker 3: going to score points? What are we good at? Like
- 33:05Speaker 3: you don't know any of those things right now.
- 33:07Speaker 2: Only there's two things I know. David Andrews can play center,
- 33:11Speaker 2: and Remandre Stevenson is a good running back.
- 33:14Speaker 3: That's pretty much like.
- 33:16Speaker 5: If I were to speculate, though, I think the tight
- 33:18Speaker 5: ends are going to be heavily involved. I think those two,
- 33:20Speaker 5: you know, it seems like Henry's back at practice and
- 33:23Speaker 5: him and Hooper and you know running the ball with
- 33:25Speaker 5: Ramandre and Gibson, like those four guys, like even just
- 33:29Speaker 5: kind of leaving the wide receivers out of it. I
- 33:31Speaker 5: think that those four guys are really big parts of
- 33:33Speaker 5: their plan, and well, yeah, they're gonna have to try
- 33:35Speaker 5: to supplement in the receivers and hope that you know
- 33:38Speaker 5: those guys are are.
- 33:39Speaker 2: Oh, we know who the people who are going to
- 33:42Speaker 2: be involved, but we don't know like what it's going
- 33:44Speaker 2: to look like. I mean, is Hunter Henry going.
- 33:46Speaker 5: To play a week one he's back out there?
- 33:48Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, I don't know. You know, you would
- 33:52Speaker 2: hope that he is, because at least we have a
- 33:54Speaker 2: little bit of a record of what he looks like,
- 33:57Speaker 2: but we don't know what he looks like in this offense.
- 33:59Speaker 5: Right, But you do know with Hooper a little bit,
- 34:01Speaker 5: and I think he's he was a lot more effective
- 34:04Speaker 5: I thought this summer than I thought he might be.
- 34:05Speaker 5: It's hard to take the cheese on a t E
- 34:07Speaker 5: two again. I know we've been doing that the last
- 34:08Speaker 5: few seasons with those guys, But I just think those
- 34:11Speaker 5: guys are gonna be kind of the engine to this
- 34:12Speaker 5: to this offense more so than the receivers, at least
- 34:15Speaker 5: early on, and you hope they can get to a
- 34:17Speaker 5: place where those receivers can be an engine to them.
- 34:19Speaker 5: But I think he really trusts Hooper. I think he
- 34:21Speaker 5: trusts Henry, and I think those are the guys he's
- 34:23Speaker 5: he's really going to be looking to the most.
- 34:25Speaker 3: Yeah, it's interesting. I feel like those guys getting targeted
- 34:28Speaker 3: further down the field in this offense than maybe the
- 34:31Speaker 3: past Patriots offenses where they were kind of just chain
- 34:34Speaker 3: movers and that sort of thing. You saw a lot
- 34:36Speaker 3: of you know, slot fade seam type things, crossing routes
- 34:40Speaker 3: like stuff off of play action. That's gonna get those
- 34:43Speaker 3: guys more involved in the explosives instead of just you know,
- 34:47Speaker 3: it's third and six and we need seven yards out
- 34:49Speaker 3: of hunter.
- 34:49Speaker 5: Henry, Hey, how was your responses? I liked your tweet
- 34:52Speaker 5: yesterday with Taekwon Thornton of like, you know, Evan put
- 34:55Speaker 5: a little cut up of just you know, like Taekwon
- 34:56Speaker 5: creating some separation downfield various plays got the pre which
- 35:01Speaker 5: seems like that's like you throw.
- 35:02Speaker 3: It in and run. I like the like couple of
- 35:06Speaker 3: people that he's not opening any of these clips, like okay,
- 35:10Speaker 3: ball noverall he's.
- 35:13Speaker 5: The only is that your bio?
- 35:17Speaker 4: That's good?
- 35:17Speaker 3: I know, Ball go learn nowhere, go learn what NFL opens.
- 35:22Speaker 3: This isn't this is in high school where like, guys
- 35:24Speaker 3: are ten yards of separation, right.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Uh, let's go line eight five five pass five hundred.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Brad's in Ohio. What's up, Brad?
- 35:34Speaker 7: Hey, guys? How are you doing this morning?
- 35:37Speaker 5: Pretty good?
- 35:39Speaker 7: Good?
- 35:39Speaker 5: Interesting?
- 35:40Speaker 7: Yeah, always good information. It's good to see you all
- 35:43Speaker 7: and doing well and stuff and the cups from football,
- 35:47Speaker 7: but that's even better.
- 35:49Speaker 8: Right.
- 35:50Speaker 7: So that being said, just a couple of thoughts I have,
- 35:56Speaker 7: in my opinion, our best case scenario would that Jacoby
- 36:01Speaker 7: comes out, wins two games and then we lose four
- 36:05Speaker 7: in a row. I know that sounds hypothetical, but that
- 36:11Speaker 7: would kind of culminate in whether Alex van Pelt would
- 36:15Speaker 7: under would feel like the offensive Taylor could be tailored
- 36:21Speaker 7: more to Drake with RPOs by then, you know, knowing
- 36:27Speaker 7: how our offensive line would play and the receivers have
- 36:29Speaker 7: done up to that point. So like week eight, maybe
- 36:32Speaker 7: it's my first dot, And then what reason would it
- 36:37Speaker 7: be for the change? Do you think would it be
- 36:40Speaker 7: Jacoby's back quarterback play? Alex Van Pelt ready for the
- 36:46Speaker 7: playmaker at quarterback given his offense and the players around him,
- 36:51Speaker 7: or there's a better Yeah, there's a better or expected
- 36:55Speaker 7: chance for the wide receivers and the line to be better,
- 37:01Speaker 7: or all the above.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I mean any or all of the
- 37:04Speaker 2: above could be Brad, And thanks for the call. I
- 37:07Speaker 2: mean what will what will you know? Why will the
- 37:12Speaker 2: change be made? The first thing is, well, Drake's ready,
- 37:15Speaker 2: because that's what we're waiting for. But that goes back
- 37:18Speaker 2: to our earlier conversation. How are they going to get
- 37:20Speaker 2: Drake Maddy ready when you're getting set ready every game?
- 37:24Speaker 2: So that's going to be a challenge to the coaches
- 37:26Speaker 2: to get Drake ready because that has to be part
- 37:30Speaker 2: of their job description right now, is getting that third
- 37:33Speaker 2: overall pick ready to play football? And how are you
- 37:36Speaker 2: going to do it now? I don't know. I don't
- 37:38Speaker 2: know the iman of that.
- 37:39Speaker 5: I would say it's kind of nice at this point
- 37:41Speaker 5: to have a bunch of quarterback guys like you've got
- 37:43Speaker 5: TC McCartney. You know, you've got well what's his face back?
- 37:46Speaker 5: I can do like you have the coaching infrastructure to
- 37:50Speaker 5: kind of give Drake a tutor, you know, like you
- 37:53Speaker 5: have enough guys where it's not Matt Patricia. Guys I
- 37:56Speaker 5: can't coordinate the offense right now. I got to run
- 37:58Speaker 5: over to the offensive line, you know, like compairing it.
- 38:00Speaker 5: It's an extreme comparison that was, you know, kind of
- 38:02Speaker 5: ridiculous a couple of years ago, but it just makes
- 38:04Speaker 5: you feel like there's gonna be eyes on him. It's
- 38:06Speaker 5: not like gonna be Jacoby's working directly with Alex van
- 38:09Speaker 5: Pelt and they're getting ready for the game plan, and
- 38:11Speaker 5: you know, Drake's on an island, just kind of sitting
- 38:13Speaker 5: there with his thumb and his ear waiting for like,
- 38:15Speaker 5: you know, how is.
- 38:15Speaker 2: He going to get reps with Jalen Polk? And you know,
- 38:18Speaker 2: the starters of the offense who if he does go in,
- 38:21Speaker 2: are the guys who's going to have to play with Well, I.
- 38:23Speaker 5: Think they've I mean i've seen you know, an effort
- 38:26Speaker 5: with Polk at least, and Baker I mean to a
- 38:28Speaker 5: lesser extent, But for those guys really seem to be
- 38:30Speaker 5: working on their chemistry. And I mean Polk was always
- 38:33Speaker 5: kind of with both groups. It wasn't you know, I
- 38:35Speaker 5: don't think that there's that much separation between Really, to me,
- 38:37Speaker 5: it's more about what the top offensive line was and
- 38:40Speaker 5: how protected is he going to be? But I think
- 38:42Speaker 5: Drake worked with pretty much every receiver. I mean I
- 38:44Speaker 5: don't I don't remember a lot like with Thornton and
- 38:47Speaker 5: Henry really maybe some of the lesser guys.
- 38:50Speaker 4: But that's going to change. If he's like regular season mode,
- 38:55Speaker 4: he's working against the first defense, running the other team's
- 38:59Speaker 4: place a lot. Now, you don't have to do it
- 39:02Speaker 4: that way. I wouldn't personally. I would have Joe Milton
- 39:05Speaker 4: do that.
- 39:05Speaker 3: I'm sure they will.
- 39:06Speaker 4: Yeah, but that's generally what the backup quarterback does. And
- 39:09Speaker 4: he's working with secondary receivers.
- 39:13Speaker 2: He's not working with you know, And I think that
- 39:16Speaker 2: at some point, you know, I just think they're going
- 39:19Speaker 2: to look at the offense week five and it's it's
- 39:23Speaker 2: just not going to be doing much and they're going
- 39:25Speaker 2: to say, after that game, Okay, this is May's week
- 39:28Speaker 2: starting Monday, it's all about Drake May.
- 39:31Speaker 4: More predictions from Freddy.
- 39:32Speaker 2: It's all about Drake May. And he's going to get
- 39:34Speaker 2: every rep and we're just going to get May ready
- 39:37Speaker 2: for this next game.
- 39:38Speaker 3: It'd be an interesting conversation to have with like Andy Reid,
- 39:42Speaker 3: you know, like how.
- 39:42Speaker 4: Did how do you do? How do you do it.
- 39:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it wasn't there an injury there that prompted Mahomes
- 39:47Speaker 2: to come in.
- 39:48Speaker 3: No, No, he played the last game just because they
- 39:50Speaker 3: had already clinched everything, so he played.
- 39:52Speaker 4: Alex Smith played in the playoffs.
- 39:54Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, Yeah, So, like, how did Andy Reider even
- 39:56Speaker 3: against US?
- 39:57Speaker 4: I think, yeah, I think that is that year or
- 40:00Speaker 4: that might be a different year. Never mind.
- 40:03Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, Andy Reid, how did you do it?
- 40:07Speaker 3: How did you know these other punny of teams do this?
- 40:10Speaker 3: You know, maybe Brian Floor isn't the best one to
- 40:12Speaker 3: ask about how to develop a.
- 40:14Speaker 4: Young quarterback and.
- 40:17Speaker 3: Terrorize him, but you know they did something similar to
- 40:20Speaker 3: and I hope Paul that they do not use Drake
- 40:24Speaker 3: May as the scouts, you.
- 40:25Speaker 4: Know what I'm saying, right, Yeah, generally how it's done.
- 40:28Speaker 4: I hope they don't do that.
- 40:29Speaker 3: I think that's why they probably kept Joe Milton around
- 40:31Speaker 3: is to not have to do that.
- 40:34Speaker 4: But it's a good question.
- 40:36Speaker 3: I still feel like I'm on the side of you
- 40:39Speaker 3: go to a when he's ready, you go to Drake
- 40:41Speaker 3: May's number one, but number two is when they're ready
- 40:44Speaker 3: for him. Like, I I don't think that if the offense. Obviously,
- 40:48Speaker 3: we have to see why the offense isn't moving the
- 40:50Speaker 3: ball and why they're not being successful. But if it's
- 40:53Speaker 3: the reasons that we think that it's going to be
- 40:55Speaker 3: mainly the offensive line, I'm not putting him in there
- 40:58Speaker 3: behind that line. I'm not doing it well.
- 41:01Speaker 5: I mean, I think in a good case scenario is
- 41:02Speaker 5: there's what if it's kind of like the summer where
- 41:04Speaker 5: Brissette was like missing guys downfield and you're like, you know,
- 41:07Speaker 5: we got something here, but like he just isn't hitting
- 41:09Speaker 5: these guys.
- 41:10Speaker 4: And he's not really see change right now.
- 41:11Speaker 5: Then it's like the perfect kind of like let's get drink,
- 41:14Speaker 5: Like we just need that kick in the pants to
- 41:16Speaker 5: get you know, over that hump and make some explosive
- 41:18Speaker 5: plays downfield. We got a guy that can throw the
- 41:20Speaker 5: ball there. Let's see what it looks like with him.
- 41:22Speaker 5: I mean, that's like perfect scenario where you feel like
- 41:24Speaker 5: you got something there, but you just are maybe lacking
- 41:27Speaker 5: that explosiveness that you hope.
- 41:29Speaker 2: I mean, it's it's it's so hard to predict. But
- 41:33Speaker 2: you mentioned, okay, there was a play to be had
- 41:35Speaker 2: and Jacoby just couldn't couple of but also there's the
- 41:39Speaker 2: factor of, you know, a quarterback who could extend a
- 41:42Speaker 2: play and make a play that isn't there happen, Yeah,
- 41:45Speaker 2: which you can't tell that by just watching. When when
- 41:49Speaker 2: would that have been you know, occurred if Drake May
- 41:52Speaker 2: was on the field. The only way to know that
- 41:54Speaker 2: is to get him out on the field. And you
- 41:57Speaker 2: know it's so it's they've got their work cut out
- 42:00Speaker 2: for him, the coaches.
- 42:01Speaker 5: I mean, the clocks start as soon as the season starts. Like,
- 42:04Speaker 5: he's just I think everyone that covers this team is
- 42:07Speaker 5: kind of in the same boat of hes just he's
- 42:08Speaker 5: got to play this year. Is there anybody really out
- 42:10Speaker 5: there making an impassion case that he shouldn't play this year.
- 42:13Speaker 2: I've heard a few people say, you know, red shirt
- 42:16Speaker 2: the year, but most people.
- 42:18Speaker 4: Not since camp. Yeah, most that was more of a
- 42:20Speaker 4: before camp.
- 42:21Speaker 2: You know, he's kind of most people are saying he's
- 42:23Speaker 2: got to get in there at some point, and no, sooner,
- 42:28Speaker 2: sooner the bad.
- 42:28Speaker 5: What if it's all mop up time?
- 42:30Speaker 2: Though?
- 42:30Speaker 5: Like what if Jacoby is the starter of seventeen games?
- 42:32Speaker 5: Is that worth anything?
- 42:33Speaker 2: Again?
- 42:34Speaker 4: No, not to me, it's not.
- 42:35Speaker 2: Ye, how's the other team playing you know, like if
- 42:38Speaker 2: it's garbage time and he's getting garbage stats, then we're
- 42:41Speaker 2: getting garbage looks.
- 42:43Speaker 4: I mean, I wouldn't say it's worth nothing.
- 42:45Speaker 2: No, it's it's good to get into a game. It's
- 42:47Speaker 2: not like the other team's going to put in there.
- 42:49Speaker 5: It's just kind of my fear.
- 42:50Speaker 4: It's just kind of an extension of the preseason.
- 42:52Speaker 5: Yeah, that's what I mean. It's just it's a worry that.
- 42:55Speaker 4: If it's like if you're telling like Fred had a
- 42:58Speaker 4: scenario early in the show about it's a close game
- 43:01Speaker 4: and you're just not doing anything on offense, that to me,
- 43:04Speaker 4: he's not mop up.
- 43:04Speaker 3: No, that's not a mop up.
- 43:06Speaker 4: Like even if he comes in the game in the
- 43:07Speaker 4: fourth quarter, putting him in to win, you're putting him
- 43:10Speaker 4: in to try to jump stut the offense. I don't
- 43:12Speaker 4: envision that happening.
- 43:13Speaker 5: You're ting him well, I mean, how many times do
- 43:16Speaker 5: you put him in last year with this offense where
- 43:18Speaker 5: it was six nothing or the only one that reference
- 43:21Speaker 5: by the way.
- 43:23Speaker 3: I don't think that you can do that.
- 43:24Speaker 4: That to me is but mop up is we're down
- 43:28Speaker 4: thirty eight to three and it's early fourth quarter. We're
- 43:32Speaker 4: gonna put Drake out there to get his feet wet,
- 43:34Speaker 4: give him some experience. I don't think there's Evans right.
- 43:37Speaker 4: It's not nothing, but it's it's kind of an extension
- 43:41Speaker 4: of the preseason. It's not as meaningful as real.
- 43:43Speaker 5: It's it's real time. Set the table for next year,
- 43:47Speaker 5: like it needs to be set.
- 43:48Speaker 3: But come out.
- 43:49Speaker 4: That's all he got was mop up and blowouts. I
- 43:52Speaker 4: wouldn't feel like we learned anything. I would be he
- 43:57Speaker 4: would not be fun to do the show.
- 43:59Speaker 3: I would be extreme critical if he doesn't play it
- 44:01Speaker 3: breaking down that's an unacceptable Yeah, absolutely unacceptable. If he
- 44:07Speaker 3: doesn't like he's shown. He almost played week one like
- 44:09Speaker 3: it was a real conversation. I think.
- 44:11Speaker 2: I don't think there's any way in hell he doesn't
- 44:13Speaker 2: play this year.
- 44:14Speaker 3: No me neither. Unless Jakobe were said seven and oh
- 44:17Speaker 3: or something crazy.
- 44:18Speaker 4: I was going to say, what's the what's the amount
- 44:19Speaker 4: of wins that it would take that you would be
- 44:21Speaker 4: satisfied if Drake may didn't play at all? Literally like
- 44:24Speaker 4: playoff team, they would they would have to be nine
- 44:28Speaker 4: to ten wins.
- 44:29Speaker 3: Yeah, he's maybe even more.
- 44:30Speaker 5: And they would have to happen early too. You know
- 44:32Speaker 5: it couldn't be like bad start and then you get
- 44:35Speaker 5: to ten like you got to start out hot.
- 44:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 44:37Speaker 2: Is there any chance that you know, uh, they're two
- 44:41Speaker 2: and four and then they put in May and it
- 44:43Speaker 2: looks worse.
- 44:45Speaker 4: Sure, oh god, yes, yeah, possible that the rookie is
- 44:48Speaker 4: not as prepared to play as the nine year vet.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, So then what happens develop I'm not talking
- 44:56Speaker 2: about I'm not talking about people who you know, but
- 45:01Speaker 2: like with the media and fans, then what happens.
- 45:04Speaker 3: Well, people on my side of the street would say, well,
- 45:07Speaker 3: this is Josh Allen his rookie season, right, and he's
- 45:10Speaker 3: going to learn the lumps now, and he's gonna, you know,
- 45:13Speaker 3: learn mistakes and hopefully I can't make that throw, right, Yeah,
- 45:17Speaker 3: and then you learn from things like that and then
- 45:20Speaker 3: it kind of goes like this starting in year two,
- 45:22Speaker 3: like that would be the hope.
- 45:23Speaker 2: But it's going to take people to explain that to
- 45:26Speaker 2: some people.
- 45:28Speaker 3: You know, that's what that's what we do.
- 45:31Speaker 5: He knows ball.
- 45:34Speaker 4: Sorry, he's a ball mower.
- 45:35Speaker 3: Thank you, thank you, get it right. You could also
- 45:38Speaker 3: say no, either way, you do a crack, you do crack.
- 45:44Speaker 3: I'm also appreciated you getting my two a jail and
- 45:46Speaker 3: hurts reference.
- 45:47Speaker 4: Yeah, well the other first of all college he watches
- 45:52Speaker 4: one or two college games every year and becomes an
- 45:54Speaker 4: authority on the one guy who flashes like say lad
- 45:57Speaker 4: maconky Okay.
- 45:59Speaker 3: But that was the one game I thought maybe you
- 46:01Speaker 3: guys would have watched.
- 46:03Speaker 5: Yeah, oh, the playoff game.
- 46:05Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a national champions national championship game pulled. You know.
- 46:11Speaker 2: I tuned into the Alabama game. Usually usually that's the
- 46:15Speaker 2: game that's on.
- 46:15Speaker 3: Right.
- 46:16Speaker 4: Yeah, it's probably gonna be a little bit right now,
- 46:17Speaker 4: four o'clock sec on.
- 46:19Speaker 5: I'm going to try to watch more college football this year, Guys,
- 46:21Speaker 5: I kind of say this every No, I'm really trying,
- 46:23Speaker 5: Like I did some preliminary like he's coming out because
- 46:27Speaker 5: he knows back in your heart. Someone said college football,
- 46:30Speaker 5: and Barth was like, well, but but I have some guys,
- 46:33Speaker 5: you know, like I just I think what will help
- 46:35Speaker 5: me watch more is if I have some guys already
- 46:37Speaker 5: that I'm kind of curious about. And then again and
- 46:39Speaker 5: I can look at it and be like, all right,
- 46:41Speaker 5: I'm gonna look at this guy, you know, if Texas
- 46:43Speaker 5: is playing or where, you know, like.
- 46:44Speaker 4: Doing it all right? You just gotta watch it. And
- 46:46Speaker 4: you see a guy flash and then you right and
- 46:47Speaker 4: you and you feel like you invented the guy, only
- 46:50Speaker 4: to find out he's projected as like the eleventh overall.
- 46:54Speaker 4: Like I told you, nothing gets so.
- 46:56Speaker 3: Like maybe you were like watching the a SEC championship
- 46:58Speaker 3: game in twenty twenty two and you text Alex Bart
- 47:01Speaker 3: and you say, hey, I know I'm supposed to be
- 47:03Speaker 3: watching Josh Downs, but like, who's this quarterback? Because he's
- 47:05Speaker 3: damn good. Then like a year and a half later,
- 47:07Speaker 3: he gets drafted by the Patriots, like something like that's.
- 47:09Speaker 4: Good, that's fine, I mean, but it feels like inform.
- 47:13Speaker 5: It just feels so overwhelming though, because there's so much
- 47:15Speaker 5: college football and the Patriots are one team, and you know,
- 47:18Speaker 5: it's so hard, like.
- 47:18Speaker 4: It is that actually early in the year, like you're
- 47:21Speaker 4: wasting your Sunday.
- 47:23Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean wasting I don't work Sunday.
- 47:25Speaker 4: But to do both, like it's this is a really
- 47:30Speaker 4: this is a really good weekend for college football. There's
- 47:33Speaker 4: some good matchups, like right out of.
- 47:34Speaker 2: The show ahead Tim and West for Tim, Oh, I'm sorry,
- 47:38Speaker 2: Timmy you there?
- 47:39Speaker 9: Oh can you hear me?
- 47:41Speaker 3: Yes?
- 47:41Speaker 5: He Tim?
- 47:43Speaker 9: Hey moving into we I this morning, and I.
- 47:48Speaker 10: Tormally disagreed with those guys that are all a bad
- 47:51Speaker 10: MC phobe being the starter. But I don't feel comfortable
- 47:54Speaker 10: putting a break behind this offensive line at all. And
- 47:59Speaker 10: I think the biggest regret this team would out if
- 48:02Speaker 10: he had some you know, severe either season ending injury
- 48:05Speaker 10: or worse. Yeah, that's the worst case scenario thing.
- 48:10Speaker 4: But Tim, can I just ask your something real quick? Tim,
- 48:14Speaker 4: do you really think that there's like more of a
- 48:17Speaker 4: risk of like worse than a season ending injury like
- 48:22Speaker 4: behind this offensive line than any other? Like, I mean,
- 48:26Speaker 4: I'm gonna tell you that I think there's more of
- 48:28Speaker 4: a risk of him getting sacked behind this offensive line
- 48:30Speaker 4: than say Kansas City's. But I don't think there's any
- 48:33Speaker 4: bigger of a risk for like a career ending injury, right,
- 48:38Speaker 4: Like that's a fluke.
- 48:39Speaker 3: Yeah, you know what I mean.
- 48:40Speaker 2: Like there's more of a chance of him getting a
- 48:42Speaker 2: career ending injury just running down the field and having
- 48:46Speaker 2: one of those non contact injuries.
- 48:47Speaker 5: I agree, you know, I agree, planner of fresh items
- 48:50Speaker 5: or something?
- 48:51Speaker 2: All right, Tim, thanks for the call. Tim Boots here,

- 52:18Speaker 13: You know, just like I told you guys a few
- 52:19Speaker 13: days ago, there was a you know, it's a process
- 52:22Speaker 13: as far as selecting who the starting quarterback is. Uh,
- 52:25Speaker 13: we have decided or I have decided that Jacoby Brissett
- 52:28Speaker 13: will be our starting quarterback UH this season now and
- 52:31Speaker 13: saying that as an organization, we're one hundred percent behind Jacoby.
- 52:35Speaker 13: There is no you know, you got a guy right here,
- 52:38Speaker 13: you got a guy right there. We're one hundred percent
- 52:39Speaker 13: behind Jacoby. And I had an opportunity to talk to Drake,
- 52:44Speaker 13: I had an opportunity to talk to Jacoby separately and
- 52:46Speaker 13: also together, and I feel like we're all on the
- 52:49Speaker 13: same page from an organizational perspective, said, you know that
- 52:54Speaker 13: you had the.
- 52:54Speaker 4: Decision, and that was your decision.
- 52:57Speaker 5: What ultimately led you to Jacob percent?
- 52:59Speaker 13: There are a lot of actors that led to this choice.
- 53:02Speaker 13: I think, you know, the hard part is thinking in
- 53:04Speaker 13: the short term and the long term at the same
- 53:05Speaker 13: time as an organization that we feel like Jacobe gives
- 53:09Speaker 13: us our best chance to win right now.
- 53:12Speaker 5: To start this season.
- 53:17Speaker 13: I don't I don't want to get into hypotheticals. You know,
- 53:20Speaker 13: we can't go into the season saying, well, he's gonna
- 53:22Speaker 13: go X amount of weeks, like, look, as long as
- 53:24Speaker 13: Jacobe's going out there performing the way that we all
- 53:26Speaker 13: have confidence in him doing, he'll be our quarterback this season.

- 56:33Speaker 12: now it's next for residential delivery only and now great
- 56:38Speaker 12: moments in history.
- 56:41Speaker 5: I just have no confidence that the Patriots are going
- 56:43Speaker 5: to be able to expose any of these, you know
- 56:46Speaker 5: weaknesses you see statistically like red zone like we saw
- 56:49Speaker 5: last week. That was a terrible red zone defense too.
- 56:51Speaker 5: It didn't really matter, no I did.
- 56:52Speaker 4: We got two red zone touchdowns?
- 56:55Speaker 3: Yes, so true.
- 56:56Speaker 4: I mean we need to have an intervention right now.
- 56:59Speaker 2: It's never good enough, josh us say, I'm tired of
- 57:02Speaker 2: getting sad.
- 57:04Speaker 4: That was just as funny today as it was yesterday.
- 57:06Speaker 3: Red zone, well, you know probably you know they did.
- 57:09Speaker 4: They stopped him. I mean they were able to score
- 57:11Speaker 4: twice in the red zone. I mean you don't go
- 57:13Speaker 4: from like zero for seven to like five for five,
- 57:16Speaker 4: like it usually doesn't work. That week, there was progress.
- 57:18Speaker 4: Last week they had two red zone touchdowns. Alex telling
- 57:21Speaker 4: he doesn't listen to me.
- 57:22Speaker 5: Kevin Aris broke like six tackles, got it.
- 57:25Speaker 4: On one play that was like the first play.
- 57:28Speaker 3: He's like, did we throw it into the end zone?
- 57:30Speaker 11: Really hard?
- 57:31Speaker 4: Why do you?
- 57:32Speaker 2: Oh, style points?
- 57:34Speaker 4: It's got to be a you know what you're no
- 57:36Speaker 4: longer allowed to do. You're no longer allowed to make
- 57:39Speaker 4: fun of me with my boys, Felgrian Mass, because you
- 57:42Speaker 4: are a wanna bee Felgrin Mass. You want to find
- 57:45Speaker 4: something to pick up.
- 57:46Speaker 2: No, they had to come from twenty eight three down.
- 57:49Speaker 2: I mean they didn't.
- 57:50Speaker 4: They didn't throw the ball into the They got red
- 57:52Speaker 4: zone scores, but they didn't throw it into.
- 57:54Speaker 2: The lead right away in the Super Bowl.
- 57:55Speaker 5: Except it's unacceptable. I demand dominance and excellence and perfecttion.
- 58:00Speaker 3: That's another great moment from.
- 58:04Speaker 2: All right. Welcome back to Patriots Unfiltered. It's Evan Paul
- 58:07Speaker 2: Deuce myself Matt Morrell on the booth.
- 58:11Speaker 4: You know if that might have been a little clip
- 58:13Speaker 4: that we played coming in. Yeah, that might have been
- 58:15Speaker 4: the origin of sneaky negative.
- 58:16Speaker 5: Duce early in the early.
- 58:18Speaker 4: Thre like just not really accepting some positivity.
- 58:22Speaker 3: Well, what year was that, because that could have.
- 58:25Speaker 4: Been any time? It was twenty twenty three. Sounded like last.
- 58:28Speaker 2: Year, because I thought the origin was I'm still so
- 58:30Speaker 2: sick of twelve and four seasons.
- 58:34Speaker 3: That sounded like the Matt Patricia year, Kevin Harris, Arizona,
- 58:37Speaker 3: Matt Brady's.
- 58:38Speaker 4: I don't know last year, I think right, we just
- 58:40Speaker 4: said it was twenty twenty three.
- 58:41Speaker 2: No, I mean that was what we were just talking. Yeah,
- 58:44Speaker 2: but sick of the twelve and four, Yeah, sick at
- 58:47Speaker 2: twelve and four.
- 58:48Speaker 4: That was when he first came in. Yeah, Like I'm
- 58:49Speaker 4: just I'm really excited.
- 58:51Speaker 11: Twelve and four September, Section second, twenty twenty one.
- 58:54Speaker 2: Twenty one.
- 58:55Speaker 4: Yeah, I just wanted to see something different.
- 58:57Speaker 5: That was from twenty five.
- 58:58Speaker 2: No, when you said I'm sick of twelve and four
- 59:01Speaker 2: was twenty twenty one?
- 59:02Speaker 4: All right? Right right, I'm going to take the blame
- 59:04Speaker 4: for this. I derailed it.
- 59:06Speaker 5: Well, you guys are right though. I mean after those
- 59:08Speaker 5: two red zone touchdowns that at the offense last year
- 59:10Speaker 5: got back on track and they were really good.
- 59:11Speaker 9: Right.
- 59:11Speaker 3: I'm still telling you he was twenty twenty two.
- 59:13Speaker 4: But you could have interchanged either of those two. It
- 59:16Speaker 4: didn't really matter.
- 59:18Speaker 3: All right.
- 59:18Speaker 2: Eight five five past five hundred is the A Sticket
- 59:20Speaker 2: hotline web radio at Patriots dot Com. We'll go to
- 59:23Speaker 2: Bill and Vista, California.
- 59:25Speaker 3: What's up? Bill Piste? But Bill? Are you there?
- 59:30Speaker 2: Bills California?
- 59:32Speaker 5: Bill, I'm just it's gone.
- 59:34Speaker 3: You guys are talking about me out there.
- 59:36Speaker 2: All right, So I'm gonna go here. In that case,
- 59:38Speaker 2: I'm going to go to the email and that's web
- 59:42Speaker 2: radio at Patriots dot Com. Boston Cream.
- 59:46Speaker 4: Haven't heard from him in a while, mister Cream.
- 59:48Speaker 3: Yeah, Paul.
- 59:50Speaker 2: If the cap is crap, would you prefer the NFL
- 59:53Speaker 2: moves to a hard cap like the NHL. I personally
- 59:56Speaker 2: think it would be a lot more transparent at the fanbase,
- 59:59Speaker 2: for the fan base and media.
- 1:00:02Speaker 4: Yeah. No, the the NHL cap is not crap. That's
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: a legit cap, and you know, the numbers are there
- 1:00:08Speaker 4: and you can't exceed it, and you can't you know,
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: play around. You know, funny that you bring it up
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: on this this day. Pretty major cap adjustment being made
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: as we speak by the Cleveland Browns somehow managing to
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: maneuver money around with Deshaun Watson's cumbersome contract to create
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: over thirty five million dollars in cap space. Tough.
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: Yeah, they figured it out.
- 1:00:36Speaker 5: I thought you're gonna talk about Swayman. Doesn't Swayman want
- 1:00:38Speaker 5: he wants his ten mil.
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: No, So the argument to be made there is would
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: you rather have it like the NHL and have it
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: be you know, completely transparent, so you know whatever. Yeah,
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: five year, ten million dollar contract is two million a
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: year and that's you know, that's all you know, That's
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: what it is. It's a cap hit is two million
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: every year, no matter what he gets paid, that's the
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: cap hit. And you can't exceed it. You can't say, well,
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: we're going to pay them six million this year because
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: we have more space, so we have more space later.
- 1:01:08Speaker 4: It doesn't work that way. You can't do it like
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: you can't in the NH in the NFL, which one
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: would you rather have?
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: NFL?
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: I think I would rather have it the way the
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: NFL is. It's way too.
- 1:01:16Speaker 5: Serious of a question from the Donut, I don't know
- 1:01:18Speaker 5: what the heck's going on.
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: In his world.
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: Was like, I agree with that, and I like the
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: fact that you can play around with the cap and
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: it doesn't really affect how teams are structured. I the
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: NHL cap.
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: Pisses me off too restrictive, because it's way too restrictive.
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: Like the Bruins last year had to keep players in
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: Providence because they literally couldn't afford to bring them up
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: to the Bruins and pay the money to pay them,
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: and so the fans in the team had to suffer
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: and not watch the best possible product because they couldn't
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: use the cap to you know, they didn't have that back.
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: And I know this isn't about the NHL. Like the
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: only loophole that I'm aware of with the NHL is
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: that long term. Yeah, a lot of good teams do it.
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: When you know you're going to make the playoffs and
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: you have a good player that's injured, you can do that. Yeah,
- 1:02:09Speaker 4: like Tampa Bay end of a couple of years ago.
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: As Evan just said, knowing you know, I can go
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: through the regular season without two.
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: Really important put.
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: Him on long term I are saved that money on
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: the cap and then I have them back for the playoffs.
- 1:02:25Speaker 4: That's that's a big time loophole.
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: Yeah, it was I can't remember who it was in
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: the Bruins, one of their centers who's like their best
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: face off guy. They couldn't win a face off to
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: save their life for like a month straight, and they
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: had to keep the guy in Providence because they literally
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: couldn't afford to put him on the NHL roster. So,
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: I you know, it's just things like that to me,
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: I don't like about the NHL cap, Like you should
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: want the fans to get the best possible product on
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: the ice. I'm not saying it should be a no
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: cap league, but it just it should be better than that.
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: Mark Conchetta rights in two things all, why can't it
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: Why can't it be mop up duty when the Patriots
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: are up thirty eight three?
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: Well that was what Mike said, Yeah, Mike, Mike threw
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: that out there earlier.
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: Absolutely likelihood of that happening is zero percent. No, I'm
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: just kidding.
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: Once it could happen, could happen.
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: You never know regarding someone like Reager, and if he
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: gets promoted from practice squad for the first few weeks
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: as a veteran, does the practice squad promotion in week
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: one stop him getting the full salary salary for a
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: season guaranteed. I don't know.
- 1:03:35Speaker 4: He does not have his salary guaranteed because he wasn't
- 1:03:38Speaker 4: on the he's not on the week one right roster
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: for the whole week. But if he gets elevated, he
- 1:03:44Speaker 4: does get like, it's not a practice squad salary. You
- 1:03:47Speaker 4: get a bump, you get a game day check. Right,
- 1:03:50Speaker 4: that's probably better.
- 1:03:51Speaker 5: It's like twelve grand a week somewhere in that area.
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: For well, he'll get close.
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: He'll get twenty three because he's a veteran, so like
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: guys that have all.
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: Just peanuts now.
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: Also, I also it's like two hundred and fifty dollars.
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: I don't know the details of this, but I also
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: would I would guess that a lot of teams when
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: they have, you know, veterans like Reager, who's fifty year
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: something like that, Veterans like that, I think get paid
- 1:04:21Speaker 4: as if they're on their active roster in a lot
- 1:04:24Speaker 4: of cases. I'm not telling you that that is the
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: case for like Tristan Hill and Reager, but I'm saying
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of teams do
- 1:04:32Speaker 4: it that way.
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: Let's see. Jacob in Rochester writes in I understand many
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: of the things that everyone on the show and in
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: the media has said about concerns about Drake May starting this,
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: including the offensive line and not knowing what's happening behind
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: closed doors when they review film, But I can I
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: can't help but have a gut reaction that I'm not
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: really excited about watching games nearly as much with Brissette
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: as the quarterback. Seeing May footwork, pocket presence and other
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: warts it all was far more exciting to watch than
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: anything I've seen from the offense since Tom Brady left.
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: So true, totally, so true. Like I mean, it's I
- 1:05:11Speaker 5: mean even I said, I think last show, like even
- 1:05:13Speaker 5: in the preseason game, when you were like, all right,
- 1:05:15Speaker 5: all right, let's go, you know it's it's you understand,
- 1:05:19Speaker 5: you're just kind of an holding pattern right now, waiting
- 1:05:21Speaker 5: for for the Drake.
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: Yeah, it's totally fair. I mean, the touchdown that ever
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: never was to kJ Osborne was the most exciting Patriots
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: play on offense I've seen since Brady, and it didn't
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: even count and it was still I mean, it's a
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: totally fair point.
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: None of us are Where would you put the mac
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: Jones to Farrell Brown catch and run touch?
- 1:05:41Speaker 5: Oh that's tough ball.
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: That's not the fact that this is. That's the list
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: is not great.
- 1:05:47Speaker 5: The only real big Plague can remember is is Matt
- 1:05:49Speaker 5: Marcus Jones walk off against the Jets like you know otherwise?
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: Oh and that wasn't even a play. Yeah, that was
- 1:05:54Speaker 4: a punt return.
- 1:05:55Speaker 5: Punt return.
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: I'd say mac Jones's best touchdown pass was probably weak
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: one Can Born against the Eagles. I would say that's
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: probably his best touchdown pass that moment there. I was like,
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: maybe there's a chance in his moments.
- 1:06:10Speaker 4: I want to hunter Henry against Cleveland, it wasn't.
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: Even the ones Born against Cleveland.
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: Was reasonably promising the first half of his rookie year. Yea,
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: the one again that I would.
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: That was probably his best throat.
- 1:06:23Speaker 5: That Born went up the scene against Cleveland jumped up.
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: We remember when Fred said that he.
- 1:06:29Speaker 5: Had question Henry over the years.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: Now, I'll take credit for that quote, right, even though
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: he take it out of content.
- 1:06:37Speaker 4: As Roger Clemens would say.
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: Nolan from California, writes in I gotta say, for selfish reasons,
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: I'm very disappointed with the decision. I under I think
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: he means I understand preseason is preseason, and I don't
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: know behind the scenes, but I was very impressed by Drake,
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: and I was with Fred and thought he would start
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: week one.
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: We were all impressed, like he's gonna play and you're
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: gonna have plenty of Drake May in your lives soon.
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: And we're all a little disappointed.
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: But just did you squeeze first?
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: Try to be a little patient. Yeah, I'm telling myself
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: that just as much as I'm telling everybody else.
- 1:07:16Speaker 5: Oh, I know, it's gonna be hard for you though, Like,
- 1:07:18Speaker 5: you know, start a second quarter, second half in Cleveland
- 1:07:20Speaker 5: and you're like or Cincinnati, and yeah, I guess we're
- 1:07:23Speaker 5: going to Kobe in the second too, you know.
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: But I get that mentality too, Like, yeah, me too.
- 1:07:29Speaker 4: You know, this is just the lack of buzz because
- 1:07:31Speaker 4: you don't get to see you you're just kind of
- 1:07:34Speaker 4: waiting for the real And even if Brisette plays really well,
- 1:07:38Speaker 4: like I think realistically people are looking at this season
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: as a rebuilding season. And even if he plays well
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: like it's not necessarily helping you for the future.
- 1:07:48Speaker 5: Yeah, but but maybe there's a little bit of a
- 1:07:50Speaker 5: silver lining that, you know, if there are some guys
- 1:07:52Speaker 5: that that starts to shine a little bit around, that's
- 1:07:55Speaker 5: what you gotta hope. Imagine this guy, you know, imagine
- 1:07:58Speaker 5: Thornton having this good year with with you know, Drake,
- 1:08:00Speaker 5: or imagine Douglas having this great second year with Drake,
- 1:08:03Speaker 5: or you know those kind of things.
- 1:08:05Speaker 4: If it's Polk and Douglas, you know, sort of excelling. Yeah,
- 1:08:08Speaker 4: like Brissette and you know, let's even extrapolid a little bit.
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: And somehow you get Wallace and Robinson on the offensive line, right,
- 1:08:15Speaker 4: they're protecting Brissette. Well, well, not yet something to be
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: encouraged about David.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: At Bethlehem, Brissett will be under siege. The old line
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: is porous, which is a problem for a pocket passer.
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: May is mobile, can run and run plays that Brissett can't.
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: That's why May should play sooner and his arm in
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: accuracy is better. Play the better player, and it shouldn't
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: be controversial.
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: It's not controversial he is the better player. But I
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: can understand, like Girodmeo said, it it's the long term
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: versus the short term, And to me, he was fighting
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: his own inner demon with this, being like the competitor
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: in him wanted to put the best player out there
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: in Week one, but he knew that that wasn't the
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: best for Drake May's long term development. And at the
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: end of the day, that has to win out right now, like,
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: it's not about Week one in Cincinnati, it's about getting
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: him to a point where he's the quarterback for the
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: next decade of the Patriots. And if this is going
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: to help put in the right direction, then that's what
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: they're doing.
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: I'd be really curious to well, I am curious, but
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: I love to find out who on the coaching squad
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: had what opinion about this whole thing.
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: Seems pretty clear to me that Alex vann Pelt wanted
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: to play Jacoby the whole time.
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: Why do you say it was pretty clear to you just.
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: By his comments, Like he told us, was the last
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: week that he spoke to us, and he said, who's
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: the starter. He's the starter. He said, there's specific things
- 1:09:40Speaker 3: that he does better right now than Drake May, and
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: there's a certain way to bring along rookie quarterbacks and
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: he's never seen NFL defenses before, and he doesn't have
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: all the tools at his disposal to handle pressure and
- 1:09:51Speaker 3: all these different type of things. And Jacoby is just
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: better at him than those things. And I would say
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: the last thing just the system, Like I don't think
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: that they're fully ready to put Drake May under center
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: in a regular season.
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: And everything he says is true, but in a team
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: that doesn't really have playoff aspirations, whenever you put Drake
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: May in, that's gonna be the first time he sees
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: NFL defenses. So yeah, like I could see if this
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: was a playoff ready team, and you know, even with
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: Jacobe P said they should make the playoffs, that's not
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: the case here. You know where we're starting from the
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: ground floor. So I think it takes a little bit
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: of you know, credence away from what AVP is saying.
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: But yeah, I think he's he's mostly just worried about
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: the build up of pressure and how that can impact Well, that's.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: Up to the coaches to believe that pressure.
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: Well pressure like in terms of like defenses getting pressure.
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: Oh yeah, but like that's like if let's just say that,
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: you know, they aren't looking good week five six, we
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: put in Drake May you don't think teams are gonna
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: come at him with the kitchen sink.
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: Of course they are, and they should.
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: It's not gonna be any easier firm in week six
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: and as it is in week one.
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: No, but maybe the offensive line is a little bit
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: better equipped to handle settled now.
- 1:11:16Speaker 4: Fair enough, that's what you're hoping.
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: Fair enough.
- 1:11:18Speaker 4: You're hoping that the rest of it is progressed a
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: little bit fair enough.
- 1:11:22Speaker 5: I think though, Paul is just going back to your
- 1:11:24Speaker 5: practice squad or you know, backup reps thing. Do you
- 1:11:27Speaker 5: think that there's value going against the Patriots defense even
- 1:11:30Speaker 5: if you are maybe running someone else's stuff, Like, can
- 1:11:33Speaker 5: you still get you know, are you still learning? Are
- 1:11:36Speaker 5: you still just trying to give a look?
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: Yeah, you're real.
- 1:11:38Speaker 4: I think you can still learn. But I was just
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: I was sort of attacking it from Fred's point of view,
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: as at some point he needs to play and work
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: with the players that he's going to be in the
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: game with in practice and if he's like with the
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: twos quote unquote, and you're giving a scout look, well
- 1:11:56Speaker 4: to Mario Douglas and Jalen Polk and Taekwon Thornton probably
- 1:11:59Speaker 4: can kJ Osborne are not recent. He's running someone else's offense,
- 1:12:04Speaker 4: That's what I would be more. But he's running it
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: with guys that aren't going to be in the game
- 1:12:09Speaker 4: that too, He's gonna be with Matt Landers, right, like
- 1:12:12Speaker 4: those are the guys that are gonna be running the
- 1:12:14Speaker 4: other team's place.
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: I would be more worried about the terminology and like
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: the scheme and all that kind of stuff. Like now,
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: now you're that's a good point. Now you're learning two
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: different languages. It's like, now you have English and Spanish
- 1:12:26Speaker 3: in your head, and it's like, okay, well, it just
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: he doesn't need to worry about running scout team like
- 1:12:32Speaker 3: you just it shouldn't be his problem to worry about.
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: He needs to worry about Drake May and the new Patriots.
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: Craig and Charlotte. Admittedly, I didn't want the Pats to
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: draft Drake May. I wanted them to trade down and
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: get more assets. But watching him through the preseason and
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: listening to him interact with the media, I'm with Paul
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: in that I just find him really likable and I
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: think he's made enough progress for him to be out
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: there I even found myself a little disappointed with this
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: morning's news. I think I'm with most of you now
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: that I'm okay with Jacoby if he starts out the
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: year and helps work through the early growing pains of
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: the team while Drake has more time. I guess the
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: part that worries me a bit is Mayo saying Jacoby
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: is our starter for the season, the quotes if the
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: plan is for him to sit out the whole year. Well,
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: then I asked, Paul, does this fit your definition of tanking?
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: Do you think Mayo is considering the whole year? I
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: kind of don't love this transparency Mayo keeps trying to provide.
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: I don't think he meant that.
- 1:13:35Speaker 4: No, I don't think he did either, But I don't
- 1:13:38Speaker 4: think it's tanking. Like even if it happens like he's
- 1:13:42Speaker 4: playing the guy, he thinks like the nine year guy
- 1:13:44Speaker 4: should have a better chance to win games. Yeah, Like
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: that's the opposite of tanking, do you know what I mean? Right? Like,
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: I think we can all say we see from a
- 1:13:55Speaker 4: skill standpoint that Drake may is better than Jacoby were set.
- 1:13:59Speaker 4: But I think probably three of us, maybe Evan wouldn't
- 1:14:02Speaker 4: agree with this you gotta figure that Brissette is more
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: prepared to play in a game right now than May is. Sure,
- 1:14:10Speaker 4: I think he's more prepared to play, So I don't
- 1:14:12Speaker 4: know how that's tanking if you played Brissette.
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: But could some of that been alleviated if they had
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: gotten him a little bit more ready during the preseason.
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: That's a fair argument. But like I just I made
- 1:14:24Speaker 4: this comment because I was with Andy this morning, Andy
- 1:14:27Speaker 4: and Fitzie on their podcast.
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I saw that.
- 1:14:32Speaker 4: I think it's hard to imagine any rookie, especially at
- 1:14:37Speaker 4: that position, entering the league and being fully prepared to play.
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: Like it's just hard to It's hard for me to
- 1:14:43Speaker 4: fathom with all that goes into that mentally and experience wise,
- 1:14:48Speaker 4: the knowledge of the coverages and the systems and the
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: protections and everything, that someone is really quote unquote ready
- 1:14:54Speaker 4: to go, sight unseen, never played, he's ready to go.
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: I think you know you you can't or you have
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: to admit that the situation this offense is is a disgrace.
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: Like nothing has been done over the last few years,
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: No since Brady left to really like things have been done,
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: but nothing has worked to get this offense in four
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: years to a state where you could get a rookie
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: quarterback and insert him into a functional offense. Oh like
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: we're starting different, I know, but we're starting from scratch.
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: The state of the offensive line, the fact we don't
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: even know who the best wide receiver is on this team,
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: the fact that we really only have one tight end
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: that we know, you know, can play at this point.
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: That's that's the reason why Drake May isn't starting.
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: It's not my reason why, but I get it. I
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: get's you.
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: Know what I mean?
- 1:15:50Speaker 5: Yeah, I would say two like even the people that
- 1:15:53Speaker 5: you know, you don't know exactly how Michael and when
- 1:15:56Speaker 5: you is going to fit into this scheme and what
- 1:15:58Speaker 5: you know mean.
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: When you doesn't even know what position he's playing.
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: I mean, this is ridiculous.
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: That's another one that I wanted to defend my shows
- 1:16:05Speaker 4: on Okay, my boy Mike de So gave me some information.
- 1:16:09Speaker 4: So I heard them talking on the radio because we
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: were talking about, you know, some very critical comments that
- 1:16:14Speaker 4: Mike Lombardi had about the Patriots and all that. The
- 1:16:17Speaker 4: weight game, right, so you're talking about how much weight
- 1:16:20Speaker 4: he gained and they said that he was three sixty
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: And then I think Felder followed that up, saying, you know,
- 1:16:24Speaker 4: I actually heard three eighty. Right, So someone, Mike.
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: And win you he's not three hundred and eighty pounds.
- 1:16:32Speaker 4: He was anyway, he was, he was at the start
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: of the spring anyway.
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: Not now.
- 1:16:39Speaker 4: Someone asked Michael, I know, because he's I'm not going
- 1:16:43Speaker 4: to get into it. He was asked in the locker room.
- 1:16:47Speaker 4: They said on the radio that you gained eighty pounds.
- 1:16:50Speaker 4: That's not what they said on my shows. They didn't
- 1:16:53Speaker 4: say he gained eighty pounds. They said he was One
- 1:16:56Speaker 4: person said three sixty. Another person said three eighty. Right,
- 1:17:00Speaker 4: he hasn't been three hundred pounds, probably since high school. Yeah,
- 1:17:02Speaker 4: he didn't gain eighty pounds.
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: And they were talking about Lombardi like Bari reported eighty.
- 1:17:07Speaker 4: He said three sixty. He said he was three sixty,
- 1:17:10Speaker 4: So in order to have gained eighty pounds, he was
- 1:17:12Speaker 4: too eighty. Yeah, I mean, when was when was the
- 1:17:15Speaker 4: last time Michael won? You weighed two hundred and eighty pounds?
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:17:18Speaker 5: No, I mean I listened to them, but that's.
- 1:17:19Speaker 4: Not what they said on the radio.
- 1:17:21Speaker 5: Yeah, eighty pounds would have been like four hundred pounds.
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: Yeah, because that's not the same arning clip, and Lombardi
- 1:17:29Speaker 3: did not say eighty pounds. Yea, he said three eighty.
- 1:17:32Speaker 5: I think he said three sixty.
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: Weller Felger said three eighty after the clip. But I
- 1:17:39Speaker 4: don't know. I'm not telling you what he actually weighs.
- 1:17:41Speaker 4: I'm just telling you they didn't say he gained eighty pounds, right,
- 1:17:44Speaker 4: they were telling you what he allegedly weighed. Yeah, that's
- 1:17:47Speaker 4: and I don't think those two things are the same.
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: Jazz from Virginia. What are your thoughts on J. T.
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: O'Sullivan's the QB School critique of May's preseason performance against
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: the Command and he was very critical of May's pocket movement.
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: Did you see that?
- 1:18:03Speaker 3: Yes, I watch all of his stuff. I try I
- 1:18:06Speaker 3: try to watch it. After I watched, I do my
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: review because I don't want to like, you know, then
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: you've got to hees like, oh, like that's just JT. O.
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: Sullivan's very much so.
- 1:18:17Speaker 9: Uh.
- 1:18:18Speaker 3: I would say that all of his critiques are fair.
- 1:18:22Speaker 3: They don't. Some of the things that he was critiquing
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: don't bother me as much as they bother him.
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: But he does have a tendency to drift into pressure
- 1:18:30Speaker 3: in the pocket or just like create more problems for himself.
- 1:18:33Speaker 4: Than he has to.
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: But I'd say the one thing that I always go
- 1:18:37Speaker 3: back to is that guys like JT. Want these quarterbacks
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: to be mechanically perfect, right, Like they look at Tom
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: Brady and they're like, that's how every quarterback should look.
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: And some quarterbacks just have different styles, like they don't
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: all look like that. And the comparison that I made
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: when I wrote about it on Monday and after further
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: review was like, if you had told somebody to uh
- 1:18:58Speaker 3: mechanically be like Aaron Rodgers or Patrick Mahomes, then a
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: quarterback coach would say absolutely not, Like that's broken, Like
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: why would you You can't throw the ball. Patrick Mahomes
- 1:19:08Speaker 3: throws the ball off one foot all the time he's
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: falling away you know, you know, fade away jump shots
- 1:19:12Speaker 3: like these types of things, Like you wouldn't tell a
- 1:19:15Speaker 3: young quarterback in like middle school to throw the ball
- 1:19:18Speaker 3: like Patrick Mahomes. So with Drake May, some of the
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: stuff that he does in the pocket with his footwork
- 1:19:24Speaker 3: might not work for JT. O Sullivan no offense, but
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: they would work for somebody with Drake May's talent. So
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: I agree with a lot of his critiques. I'm just
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: not sure if it's something that I'm looking at now
- 1:19:36Speaker 3: as like a fatal.
- 1:19:37Speaker 4: Flaw, like he can't play in the laitue because of this.
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: I wrote it during the game on the block, so
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: it's verified. I'm not making this up now. So I said,
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: I thought that he had a good game, I said,
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: but in the pocket I thought his awareness I had
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: a little bit of a problem with, because you know,
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: you can't throw the ball if you can't follow through.
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: And like I said, in the block, that's a good
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: way to get your hand hurt, your arm hurt, coming
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: down on somebody's helmet. And that happened at least twice.
- 1:20:05Speaker 5: And that was and that was JT's thing, which is
- 1:20:07Speaker 5: drifting into trouble, you know, and I and I and
- 1:20:09Speaker 5: I also wondered, you know, part of our discussion about
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: the offensive line, and there was you know, a little
- 1:20:15Speaker 5: bit kind of related to Drake and going, you know,
- 1:20:17Speaker 5: moving into where guys are. The thing that bugged me
- 1:20:20Speaker 5: a little bit. That just was the weird throws commentary,
- 1:20:23Speaker 5: which was something that O'Sullivan said that he kind of
- 1:20:26Speaker 5: noticed on Drake May's college film A couple throws the
- 1:20:29Speaker 5: other night where you were kind of like, where was
- 1:20:31Speaker 5: that one going? You know, we've seen a couple of
- 1:20:33Speaker 5: those over the summer. I don't mean this like I'm
- 1:20:36Speaker 5: going to say this right now, and I don't want
- 1:20:37Speaker 5: it to be like taken, but he's like the opposite
- 1:20:40Speaker 5: of Tom Brady in some ways. Right now the video
- 1:20:42Speaker 5: of the Paul and I did with Josh McDaniels where
- 1:20:44Speaker 5: everything was functionally perfect, like from foot placement to pocket
- 1:20:48Speaker 5: movement to accuracy, and you know, and we always said
- 1:20:52Speaker 5: Brady wasn't you know, he didn't probably have the canon
- 1:20:55Speaker 5: that Drake May has been gifted with. So it's almost
- 1:20:57Speaker 5: can you get Drake made? To that point? It's JT said, too,
- 1:21:00Speaker 5: Look it's a young kid. It's he's been three weeks.
- 1:21:02Speaker 5: He's made strides, I would say, but it's just I
- 1:21:05Speaker 5: think it was a reminder like he's still got a
- 1:21:07Speaker 5: ways to go, and there's a lot of nuance to
- 1:21:10Speaker 5: the quarterback position that it makes me appreciate because we
- 1:21:13Speaker 5: can watch Drake May and be like that was pretty
- 1:21:14Speaker 5: cool watching Drake May out there, But then you realize
- 1:21:17Speaker 5: all the little things that he's going to have to
- 1:21:19Speaker 5: do to really attain that elite level, and you know,
- 1:21:22Speaker 5: just to make it easier around himself. I think that
- 1:21:24Speaker 5: was the biggest thing that overall was just understanding where
- 1:21:28Speaker 5: the pressure is gonna come. Know, the like the little
- 1:21:30Speaker 5: slide step that that you know, Baldy threw down the
- 1:21:32Speaker 5: field to Baker was a great example earlier in the
- 1:21:34Speaker 5: preseason of subtle pop take the step boom, it's there,
- 1:21:38Speaker 5: you know. So I just think it's a process. I
- 1:21:40Speaker 5: didn't get over overwhelmed with it, but it's great.
- 1:21:43Speaker 2: He never stopped working on it. H's and that's I
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: mean we saw like in ten years in he's got
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: the towel under his arm and he never stopped trying
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: to perfect that technique.
- 1:21:53Speaker 3: Yeah, he's goy learned to stay in the center of
- 1:21:55Speaker 3: the pocket. That's the biggest thing with with Drake May
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: And when you have to move off your sp you
- 1:22:00Speaker 3: always want to get back to center. And I think
- 1:22:02Speaker 3: sometimes what happens with him is that he'll move off
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: his spot and then he'll keep climbing the pocket and
- 1:22:09Speaker 3: then he'll get into the line of scrimmage and then
- 1:22:11Speaker 3: that's when the deflected passes and things like that happen.
- 1:22:14Speaker 3: And the last thing is just when one step or
- 1:22:17Speaker 3: two steps will do, don't make five, right, Like, if
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: you just feel a little bit of pressure coming off
- 1:22:23Speaker 3: your right hand side, that doesn't mean that you need
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: to take five steps to the left. Maybe it's only
- 1:22:28Speaker 3: two steps to the left, and those little things just
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: quieting down his feet a little bit, To just make
- 1:22:33Speaker 3: a subtle pocket movement instead of demonstrative pocket movement where
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: now all of a sudden you're running into pressure, you're
- 1:22:39Speaker 3: causing issues for yourself, can go a long way.
- 1:22:42Speaker 4: So I like his.
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: Presence. I think he's poisoned the pocket. I don't think
- 1:22:47Speaker 3: he's afraid back there by any means, And I do
- 1:22:49Speaker 3: actually think that he senses pressure pretty well. But right
- 1:22:53Speaker 3: now it's just kind of a work in progress to
- 1:22:55Speaker 3: get him to just kind of quiet down his feet.
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: No in Toronto, And this makes a lot of sense
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: to me. How much easier was Drod Mayo's decision May
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: by the fact that May is not as fun to
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: chant as Zappi.
- 1:23:08Speaker 5: It's only one syllable, May May man. It is hard
- 1:23:11Speaker 5: to mean Drake May Drake May.
- 1:23:13Speaker 4: I feel like Drake is It's gonna be it's gonna
- 1:23:15Speaker 4: be we want Drake play may play, may play may right.
- 1:23:21Speaker 4: I think it's gonna be we want Drake.
- 1:23:23Speaker 5: I think we want I like that.
- 1:23:25Speaker 3: We who doesn't love the Drake.
- 1:23:27Speaker 4: So if it's bad with Brissette while they start yelling
- 1:23:29Speaker 4: may day.
- 1:23:29Speaker 5: May Day, well that means I know, well, we got
- 1:23:32Speaker 5: to be careful with that, because that means you're about
- 1:23:33Speaker 5: to crash.
- 1:23:34Speaker 3: So that's why it's going. It's a twofer.
- 1:23:37Speaker 4: I would I would just suggest too, like with with
- 1:23:40Speaker 4: regard like the J. T. O. Sullivan thing, and you know,
- 1:23:43Speaker 4: I don't you know, I don't watch a ton of
- 1:23:46Speaker 4: those things, but Mike and Evan both had talked to
- 1:23:48Speaker 4: me about what what he had said. Just as a
- 1:23:51Speaker 4: fan like I would try not to be too sensitive,
- 1:23:54Speaker 4: you know, like no one comes in and just as
- 1:23:57Speaker 4: like flawless, like there's gonna be things that people are
- 1:24:01Speaker 4: gonna You're gonna see things about Drake may that you're
- 1:24:04Speaker 4: not gonna like, because you see things about everybody that
- 1:24:08Speaker 4: you that is not perfect. So when someone points something out,
- 1:24:11Speaker 4: I wouldn't immediately do the patriot reaction, the patriot fan
- 1:24:15Speaker 4: reaction and immediately just start lashing out wrong no, you
- 1:24:20Speaker 4: like defend the wall, like just sort of roll with it,
- 1:24:22Speaker 4: like like Mic.
- 1:24:23Speaker 3: Didn't hear a ton of that. I think a lot
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: of people thought it was warranty critical.
- 1:24:27Speaker 4: But I'm just saying that, and I would suggest to
- 1:24:29Speaker 4: continue doing it.
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: It's gonna it's gonna flip because in the past we
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: would pick that one negative thing that the person said
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: and highlight that. Now it's gonna be we're gonna be
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: looking for that one positive they say it. Well.
- 1:24:40Speaker 4: Plus, I would also say, there's a lot of people
- 1:24:43Speaker 4: out there that think it's crazy to think about playing
- 1:24:46Speaker 4: Drake May right now, and those are the people that
- 1:24:50Speaker 4: are saying, yep, that's why. So he's like, so there's
- 1:24:53Speaker 4: agendas involved. I would just say, like, you'll I don't
- 1:24:57Speaker 4: know about agendas, but I think you'll enjoy your process
- 1:25:00Speaker 4: a little bit more if you do it like the
- 1:25:02Speaker 4: way Mike has been talking since the start of camp
- 1:25:04Speaker 4: about I've seen enough. You have a guy with physical
- 1:25:08Speaker 4: skills that you haven't had for a while.
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: Yeah, so just.
- 1:25:11Speaker 4: Enjoy and watch the development and don't just like it's
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: got to be all or nothing. He's got to be perfect.
- 1:25:17Speaker 4: He's got to be a perfect specimen or I don't
- 1:25:19Speaker 4: like him.
- 1:25:20Speaker 5: That's the funny thing, Paul, is because JT did plenty
- 1:25:23Speaker 5: of videos on Matt two which we watched, and never
- 1:25:26Speaker 5: in Max videos were there what was in Drakes which
- 1:25:29Speaker 5: is I mean, look at this throw. I mean just
- 1:25:30Speaker 5: the talent, you know, like because there are those moments
- 1:25:32Speaker 5: in that video too, where you know the shot that
- 1:25:35Speaker 5: Osbourne like where he just takes a moment to praise
- 1:25:39Speaker 5: the pure athletic talent and gifts of this player. You
- 1:25:42Speaker 5: never really got that with the Mac video. So I
- 1:25:44Speaker 5: find it easier to kind of cling on to those
- 1:25:46Speaker 5: and say, you know, look, he's already ahead of the game.
- 1:25:49Speaker 4: The touchdown throw right, the touchdown pass to Kevin Harris,
- 1:25:51Speaker 4: like Olosky really broke that down, And I thought Olaski
- 1:25:55Speaker 4: overblew it a little bit, like why was he west?
- 1:25:58Speaker 4: But I would the baby was asleep. It was unbelievable,
- 1:26:04Speaker 4: like just as pure because if you watch that play
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: the way he's explaining it, you're thinking, for sure, this
- 1:26:11Speaker 4: is a pick six. And if again, I know I
- 1:26:14Speaker 4: hate to go back and pick on you know QB
- 1:26:18Speaker 4: two in Jacksonville, but that's a pick six. Yeah, if
- 1:26:22Speaker 4: Mac Jones throws it.
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: It's still the ball is still going there.
- 1:26:25Speaker 4: You had to get that ball there quickly in order
- 1:26:28Speaker 4: because that that's that was a corner who's driving on
- 1:26:32Speaker 4: the ball, and he recognized it and didn't get there
- 1:26:34Speaker 4: in time.
- 1:26:34Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I actually didn't like that throw.
- 1:26:37Speaker 4: I didn't love it either, But it just shows you
- 1:26:38Speaker 4: the physical skills. I told you live that's not that's
- 1:26:41Speaker 4: not one you want to make a living doing. I
- 1:26:43Speaker 4: think was exactly what I said to you. Yeah, I
- 1:26:45Speaker 4: just like the one that he remember, the one over
- 1:26:47Speaker 4: in the middle. He kind of jumped when he threw it.
- 1:26:49Speaker 4: He was like on his tiptoes, like to your point
- 1:26:52Speaker 4: about like throwing in traffic, just kind of like he
- 1:26:54Speaker 4: was a little toesy.
- 1:26:55Speaker 3: Yeah, that was one that uh, you know, JT often
- 1:26:59Speaker 3: says that there's just too much going on, Like there's
- 1:27:02Speaker 3: just too many moving parts. And if you're gonna be
- 1:27:05Speaker 3: a really efficient, accurate thrower, that's consistent with accuracy, you're quiet,
- 1:27:10Speaker 3: like you don't have all these different moving limbs and
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: things like that, and uh, and that can tend to
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: happen with Drake May but you know, he he's he's
- 1:27:22Speaker 3: over there.
- 1:27:23Speaker 4: That guy.
- 1:27:25Speaker 3: He'll he'll harp on you know, the sprays, like we
- 1:27:29Speaker 3: call him like the Taekwon, like on the slant that
- 1:27:32Speaker 3: he's just nowhere near him and it's like, yeah, like
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: that's not a good throw, but it's one throw out
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: of twenty that he made. So like if that if
- 1:27:41Speaker 3: every once in a while, you know, let's call it,
- 1:27:44Speaker 3: two or three times a game he has one of
- 1:27:46Speaker 3: those like complete just air mails, but then he throws
- 1:27:49Speaker 3: a forty eight touch yard touchdown on the next play.
- 1:27:52Speaker 3: Then I don't really care like about the air like
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: why are we so worried about it.
- 1:27:58Speaker 5: The wrong way? Like one of the first the first game, right.
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: Yeah, when Mac would make throws where he would like
- 1:28:05Speaker 3: drive the ball into a tight window because oh my god.
- 1:28:12Speaker 4: JT. O. Sullivan would be like, there you go.
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: Mac would be like happy for Mac that Mac made
- 1:28:18Speaker 3: an actual NFL throw. And now at Drake May He's like,
- 1:28:21Speaker 3: well he he missed the wide open slamt by ten feet,
- 1:28:25Speaker 3: Like what are we doing?
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: Uh? Joel and Ottawa, I'm mainly worried this. I'm mainly
- 1:28:30Speaker 2: worried this season will be like twenty twenty where the
- 1:28:33Speaker 2: season was lost quite early. But the team refused to
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: play Stidham enrolled with Newton. We have nothing to lose.
- 1:28:40Speaker 2: If we are zero to four or one and five,
- 1:28:43Speaker 2: fans will get so restless in the media will be
- 1:28:45Speaker 2: all over Mayo if he continues to send out a
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: set with no chance to win. I'm I'm all for
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: the first overall pick next year, but I want to
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: see a glimpse of may.
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: I kind of just disagree with the notion that there's
- 1:28:59Speaker 3: nothing to lose.
- 1:29:01Speaker 4: If he's not ready, you lose a lot.
- 1:29:03Speaker 3: There's everything to lose, Like if he's not ready to exactly,
- 1:29:06Speaker 3: if he's not ready to play and you break him
- 1:29:08Speaker 3: by playing him too early, well then then we're screwed.
- 1:29:12Speaker 3: Like then you're starting from scratch again. Like the one
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: thing that you can say is that they've gotten him
- 1:29:16Speaker 3: to a decent place at this point, and the worst
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: thing that could happen is regression. Like if he goes
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: back to with his you know, we're talking all this
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: footwork stuff, but it's so much better already than it
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: was at North Carolina. And if he goes back to
- 1:29:29Speaker 3: the way it was at North Carolina and he regresses,
- 1:29:32Speaker 3: then then you might not have a quarterback like, then
- 1:29:34Speaker 3: you're starting all over again.
- 1:29:37Speaker 4: Okay, but I'm just saying, like, there's plenty to lose
- 1:29:40Speaker 4: if you don't think he's ready, right right, you know,
- 1:29:43Speaker 4: and I'm not telling you he is or he is,
- 1:29:44Speaker 4: and I'm telling you they think he's not. So if
- 1:29:47Speaker 4: they continue to think that and all of a sudden,
- 1:29:49Speaker 4: you want why are you shugging?
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: No?
- 1:29:51Speaker 5: He shivered.
- 1:29:51Speaker 4: Plus that was a little bit seymore.
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: Again, if they're being honest, do they think he's not
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: ready or the team's ready for him?
- 1:30:01Speaker 4: Like I don't really understand the whole team not ready
- 1:30:02Speaker 4: for anything about it? If I know what, I just don't.
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: If you have no idea how good or bad the
- 1:30:08Speaker 2: offense is, like.
- 1:30:09Speaker 4: I don't have any idea how good about the offense
- 1:30:11Speaker 4: is with Jacoby Brissett either.
- 1:30:13Speaker 2: Well, but at least you're not putting in Drake May And.
- 1:30:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't get that. I don't, you know. I'm
- 1:30:19Speaker 4: just I get that they don't think he's ready, and
- 1:30:22Speaker 4: I'm willing to be patient. But if they don't think
- 1:30:25Speaker 4: he's ready, and then you know, you don't just say
- 1:30:28Speaker 4: well he's ready. Now we're one in five, right, and
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: now he's not ready? Still right, Like that's counterproduct. How
- 1:30:33Speaker 4: are you going I can't do damn.
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: Well, that's what we talked about at the outset. How
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: are you going to get him ready? That's the question.
- 1:30:40Speaker 4: Yeah. I would love to train coaches get paid for Andy.
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: Reid and all these other coaches that have done this
- 1:30:46Speaker 3: with the rookie quarterbacks and not necessarily fully red shirted them.
- 1:30:49Speaker 3: But like Elliot Wolf, I'm sure has resources Jackson to
- 1:30:52Speaker 3: start right away.
- 1:30:53Speaker 4: He started during his rookie year, his rookie.
- 1:30:57Speaker 2: Year, and so that would be like, what made you
- 1:31:00Speaker 2: think he was ready?
- 1:31:01Speaker 4: Yeah, they ran they ran a gimmick offense.
- 1:31:04Speaker 3: Yeah that's true. But you know, like in Green Bay,
- 1:31:07Speaker 3: you know they did this twice. So Elliott Wolf like,
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: go call your people in Green Bay and say, what
- 1:31:12Speaker 3: did you do with Aaron Rodgers for the entire season
- 1:31:14Speaker 3: when he was sitting behind Brett Farv You know.
- 1:31:17Speaker 4: Like those are the people you got asked.
- 1:31:18Speaker 5: I wanted you to fire back on Felger with that
- 1:31:21Speaker 5: one because the Jordan Love one. Oh, because they had
- 1:31:25Speaker 5: a Hall of Fame quarterback. It's the same, It's not
- 1:31:27Speaker 5: the same situation.
- 1:31:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought about And the other thing that I
- 1:31:30Speaker 4: keep talking about with Jordan Love that no one else
- 1:31:32Speaker 4: brings up is like, so this is great now the
- 1:31:36Speaker 4: way they did it, so you think it was ideal
- 1:31:39Speaker 4: to let him play one season and have to give
- 1:31:40Speaker 4: him that contract. That's what you were looking to do
- 1:31:43Speaker 4: off of one season, which really, let's when you really
- 1:31:46Speaker 4: break it down, was kind of a half a season
- 1:31:49Speaker 4: because he wasn't the same guy the whole year.
- 1:31:51Speaker 5: He threw in the Atlanta thing with Farv two, he's
- 1:31:53Speaker 5: like Farve status for sure, Atlanta.
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: That has nothing to do with anything like nineteen ninety
- 1:31:57Speaker 3: two and he was the second round picker.
- 1:31:59Speaker 4: Wasn't a guy that was clean, Like people didn't even
- 1:32:01Speaker 4: know who Brett Farv was.
- 1:32:03Speaker 5: The whole point of that book by Ron Wolf, The
- 1:32:05Speaker 5: Packer Way, was that when he got that job, he
- 1:32:07Speaker 5: had had his eye on Brett Faarr forever and he
- 1:32:10Speaker 5: went and got him. And that was the whole plan.
- 1:32:13Speaker 5: And this whole thing about oh the Packer Way and
- 1:32:15Speaker 5: sitting guys, it's just yeah, you had a Hall of
- 1:32:17Speaker 5: Fame court. It doesn't It just doesn't make sense. And
- 1:32:19Speaker 5: people just saying it great to the same thing.
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: And that's what Elliott wol like, Oh that was our
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: way it worked.
- 1:32:26Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:32:26Speaker 3: It was also with Jordan Love to just like comparing
- 1:32:29Speaker 3: them as prospects, Jordan Love was in a turnover machine
- 1:32:32Speaker 3: in college, and I did not like I think his
- 1:32:35Speaker 3: last year in college. I think I want to say
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: he threw like twenty picks or something like that, like
- 1:32:40Speaker 3: Drake May had didn't throw twenty picks over two years
- 1:32:43Speaker 3: at North Carolina. So with Jordan Love, it was less
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: like everybody makes it out to be, like he was
- 1:32:48Speaker 3: this toolsy guy that was raw and it was decision
- 1:32:51Speaker 3: making like Drake May doesn't have a decision making problem.
- 1:32:54Speaker 3: He's got footwork issues and some mechanical things that they
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: need to tweak with, but he makes usually pretty solid decisions.
- 1:33:01Speaker 3: Like he doesn't throw a ton of interceptions. Yeah, Jordan Love,
- 1:33:04Speaker 3: if he had played in the NFL year one, would
- 1:33:05Speaker 3: have thrown thirty interceptions Like that's not gonna happen.
- 1:33:08Speaker 2: Gone, Yeah, Chris with a tian I'm fine with Jakobe
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: starting for the year. I expect May to see time
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: at some point, hopefully sooner rather than later. The more
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: REPSI gets, the better I look at this year as
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: nothing more than a building block for him. And the team.
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: It's unbelievable to me that the team is going into
- 1:33:28Speaker 2: yet another season without at least an average left tackle.
- 1:33:31Speaker 2: Incredible really, so yep, it is it is.
- 1:33:36Speaker 3: Yeah. I have a bigger rant on this with the
- 1:33:39Speaker 3: whole like, to me, the person to blame for this
- 1:33:42Speaker 3: with Drake May as Elliott Wolf.
- 1:33:43Speaker 4: Like Elliot Wolf didn't do a good.
- 1:33:45Speaker 3: Enough job with this offensive line in the off season.
- 1:33:48Speaker 3: And if they had done a better job putting together
- 1:33:51Speaker 3: an offensive line with the resources that they had in
- 1:33:54Speaker 3: the off season, then I really believe that Drake May
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: would be playing against Cincinnati, And that to me is
- 1:34:00Speaker 3: where it is right now. I actually think their receivers
- 1:34:02Speaker 3: are a little bit better this year than they have been.
- 1:34:06Speaker 3: I mean, like Juju and DeVante Parker last year. We're
- 1:34:10Speaker 3: horrible for this team. At least you have some young
- 1:34:12Speaker 3: guys now that you feel a little bit optimistic about.
- 1:34:15Speaker 3: I have some upside, But to me, this is this
- 1:34:17Speaker 3: really comes down to the fact that he never really
- 1:34:20Speaker 3: stood a chance to play because they were always going
- 1:34:22Speaker 3: to come to this conclusion.
- 1:34:24Speaker 4: Well, especially if they were going to do you know,
- 1:34:26Speaker 4: like Fred's theory of like, well, we don't know what
- 1:34:28Speaker 4: it's supposed to look like, but you don't know what
- 1:34:30Speaker 4: it's supposed to look like because you don't have any
- 1:34:31Speaker 4: players that you can you know, have any track record, right,
- 1:34:35Speaker 4: and that makes it even worse. Like, I mean, I
- 1:34:38Speaker 4: look at Washington and they have a new offensive coordinator
- 1:34:43Speaker 4: in Cliff Kingsbury. I don't know what that offense is
- 1:34:45Speaker 4: supposed to look like. But Jayden Daniels is starting quarterback.
- 1:34:48Speaker 4: They have a terrible offensive line. It's ranked I think
- 1:34:51Speaker 4: twenty eighth in those same rankings that ranked the Patriots
- 1:34:54Speaker 4: last he's playing.
- 1:34:56Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I looked up their depth chart today because
- 1:34:59Speaker 3: that we were trying to remember their receivers.
- 1:35:01Speaker 4: Terry McLaurin.
- 1:35:02Speaker 3: Literally the only other good player on that offense besides
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: as Jayden Daniels is Terry McLaurin. Like, that offense is
- 1:35:07Speaker 3: just as bad as the one here right now.
- 1:35:08Speaker 4: I admittedly they do have a number one guy, yeah,
- 1:35:12Speaker 4: but I mean that's it.
- 1:35:14Speaker 5: Yeah, rookie left tackle and they took in the third round.
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: Yeah, and they traded Jehan Dotson, who is an okay
- 1:35:19Speaker 3: number two receiver. They have Brian Robbinson the running back,
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: who's like a decent running back but Remandery is a
- 1:35:25Speaker 3: decent running back, So like they really it's not very
- 1:35:28Speaker 3: all that different between those two teams, Jay and Minnesota.
- 1:35:33Speaker 2: After may said I'm gonna this is gonna be a
- 1:35:36Speaker 2: problem all season.
- 1:35:37Speaker 3: Between May and Mayo, you have issues.
- 1:35:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it's gonna be a problem anyway.
- 1:35:41Speaker 4: He has a little thing goes around.
- 1:35:43Speaker 2: Yeah, after Mayo said what's best for the team today
- 1:35:47Speaker 2: may not be what's best for the team later in
- 1:35:50Speaker 2: the season, I knew it was gonna be Jacoby. How
- 1:35:53Speaker 2: much do you think that a VP influenced the decision?
- 1:35:56Speaker 2: Since Jacoby already has played in his scheme, I just
- 1:35:59Speaker 2: don't know how make and get better in the offense
- 1:36:01Speaker 2: without playing in it. Sounds like may already knows more
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: about reading a defense than mac ten, So that's a
- 1:36:07Speaker 2: positive for me. But going back to the question, do
- 1:36:11Speaker 2: you think that had a lot of weight the fact
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: that Van Pel could say, at least you know, Jacoby
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: knows the offense, and that goes to his comment about
- 1:36:20Speaker 2: he has the tools or he knows how to use
- 1:36:23Speaker 2: the tools to get into out of trouble, And you
- 1:36:26Speaker 2: know how much of that weigh in the decision?
- 1:36:28Speaker 3: I could probably I think That's probably the only thing
- 1:36:30Speaker 3: that you could say that Jacoby has over Drake May
- 1:36:32Speaker 3: at this point is is just that I mean, like
- 1:36:34Speaker 3: they in the game on Sunday Night and the past,
- 1:36:38Speaker 3: Antonio Gibson, it's a hot read, like you know, blitzer unblocked,
- 1:36:41Speaker 3: free runner. Does Drake May know that that blitz is coming?
- 1:36:45Speaker 3: Like does he does he id that? And does he
- 1:36:48Speaker 3: get the ball out to the hot and like it
- 1:36:50Speaker 3: turned out to be a more successful play because Washington
- 1:36:53Speaker 3: busted the coverage. So I'm not trying to like make
- 1:36:55Speaker 3: too big of a deal of it, but the question
- 1:36:57Speaker 3: is does he know that that? Would like would Drake
- 1:37:01Speaker 3: May react in the same way or would he be
- 1:37:03Speaker 3: a deer in the headlights and not nowhere to go
- 1:37:05Speaker 3: at the ball?
- 1:37:05Speaker 4: Good good play to sort of bring up too, because
- 1:37:08Speaker 4: I think a lot of people would be like, let's
- 1:37:11Speaker 4: says there's a blitz and ends up sacking Jacoby Brissett,
- 1:37:15Speaker 4: And people would say like, oh, well, that's a play
- 1:37:17Speaker 4: that may might have been able to get out of
- 1:37:18Speaker 4: the pocket to make a play, but they're not going
- 1:37:20Speaker 4: to count plays like this that Perssett understands and knows
- 1:37:24Speaker 4: what's coming. And there is no chance for a sack
- 1:37:28Speaker 4: because he knew where it was coming from and he
- 1:37:30Speaker 4: got rid of the ball that maybe may wouldn't have understood, right,
- 1:37:34Speaker 4: Like that's a good example. Yeah, you know, both sides
- 1:37:37Speaker 4: of the equations.
- 1:37:37Speaker 5: I just think there's also just value that Jacoby Brissett has,
- 1:37:40Speaker 5: you know, started against this defense in twenty twenty two.
- 1:37:42Speaker 5: I mean he's played against this team, you know, like
- 1:37:44Speaker 5: he knows what they do. I mean it's you know,
- 1:37:47Speaker 5: so it's that that to me is as much as
- 1:37:49Speaker 5: understanding the schemes and all that, it's it's just experienced too.
- 1:37:52Speaker 5: You know, this guy has won games in the league,
- 1:37:54Speaker 5: and you know you have to trust him a little bit.
- 1:37:57Speaker 3: I think, yeah, I thought that that played that Gibson
- 1:37:59Speaker 3: and the game like that's like teach tape of how
- 1:38:02Speaker 3: to handle pressure.
- 1:38:04Speaker 4: Like that's a really good play.
- 1:38:05Speaker 3: Like you put that up on the board and you're
- 1:38:07Speaker 3: the young quarterbacks and you're like, see, like we have
- 1:38:09Speaker 3: three guys over here. If he comes, then then the
- 1:38:12Speaker 3: quarterback's hot. If he doesn't come, then you should be
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: protected and you should have it blocked as soon as
- 1:38:18Speaker 3: that linebacker comes to Kobe's a Like, I know, I'm hot,
- 1:38:21Speaker 3: and like that instantaneous type of stuff might not happen
- 1:38:25Speaker 3: with a young quarterback like that was. I understand that
- 1:38:28Speaker 3: it's a swing pass into the flat and it doesn't
- 1:38:31Speaker 3: sound like it's it's much, but that those types of
- 1:38:33Speaker 3: things are not easy to do.
- 1:38:35Speaker 5: What about the one where where he was where May
- 1:38:37Speaker 5: was hot on Thornton and went to Thornton.
- 1:38:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not one hundred percent sure he knew he
- 1:38:42Speaker 3: was hot. Yeah, so that that that one was different
- 1:38:45Speaker 3: like to me or in the game against the Eagles,
- 1:38:47Speaker 3: it was it was host juke. It's the same concept
- 1:38:50Speaker 3: in the game against the Eagles where he tucked it
- 1:38:52Speaker 3: and ran because he didn't throw the off coverage hitch
- 1:38:56Speaker 3: and this one, I felt like he got off coverage,
- 1:38:59Speaker 3: he knew that he had to hitch there, and he
- 1:39:01Speaker 3: was like, well, last week, I screwed this up, so
- 1:39:03Speaker 3: this week I'm going to do it right. And it
- 1:39:04Speaker 3: just coincidentally kind of worked out that they blitzed. But
- 1:39:07Speaker 3: maybe he did and I'll give him that.
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, when you're looking at the trunk of
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: the stem, you gotta worry about the branches.
- 1:39:14Speaker 4: Did you stack them?
- 1:39:15Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah?
- 1:39:16Speaker 4: Ran leak.
- 1:39:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I haven't seen that about your favorite beasting?
- 1:39:22Speaker 4: Is that?
- 1:39:22Speaker 5: What are you getting into? That?
- 1:39:23Speaker 2: Is that? No? No, I did get I stepped on
- 1:39:26Speaker 2: another hornets.
- 1:39:26Speaker 4: Nest another Saturday. This has happened multiple times.
- 1:39:29Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, I got my Freddy.
- 1:39:31Speaker 4: I worry about you arms.
- 1:39:34Speaker 5: He's just stomping around legs.
- 1:39:36Speaker 2: I worry about So you got like multiple stinks, like
- 1:39:39Speaker 2: twenty beastings. I got attacked.
- 1:39:43Speaker 4: Yeah, we need like we need you. The season started.
- 1:39:46Speaker 2: Luckily. I'm not allergic to it, but I am swollen
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: and itchy.
- 1:39:50Speaker 5: So what they get just on the armor.
- 1:39:52Speaker 2: Arm and legs?
- 1:39:54Speaker 4: Yeah, Freddy, can you not step on hornets nest?
- 1:39:58Speaker 2: It's a jungle out there. Everything out there wants to
- 1:40:01Speaker 2: kill you. You know. It's terrible.
- 1:40:03Speaker 5: Mosquitos they get the Triple League.
- 1:40:04Speaker 3: There's a lot of b's around.
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: Here in Plymouth. They've vaccinated the whole outdoors.
- 1:40:10Speaker 4: Because of that's the place where you can't go outside
- 1:40:12Speaker 4: the outside.
- 1:40:12Speaker 2: Because because this new mosquito willness they've got going on cephalitis.
- 1:40:18Speaker 2: Rodrigos writes in the question is mainly for Evan, but
- 1:40:22Speaker 2: hope everyone shines in. Can we really for certain say
- 1:40:26Speaker 2: that we can't play may behind this offensive line when
- 1:40:28Speaker 2: we haven't even seen the starting line yet, or is
- 1:40:33Speaker 2: what we saw in preseason games likely going to be
- 1:40:36Speaker 2: the starting line.
- 1:40:37Speaker 3: Well, it is probably going to be most of the
- 1:40:39Speaker 3: starting line. You can play may behind the starting line.
- 1:40:43Speaker 3: But I'm you know, I think we're all kind of
- 1:40:45Speaker 3: an agreement. I would just rather see what it looks
- 1:40:49Speaker 3: like for a couple of weeks in the regular season,
- 1:40:52Speaker 3: and it looks like it did in the Eagles joint practice,
- 1:40:54Speaker 3: I don't want to play him in that situation. If
- 1:40:56Speaker 3: it looks a little bit better than that, then you
- 1:40:58Speaker 3: start to feel a little bit better about him going
- 1:41:00Speaker 3: out there. And you know, to the point we were
- 1:41:02Speaker 3: just making, if he advances in terms of how to
- 1:41:04Speaker 3: handle pre snap looks and things like that to anticipate
- 1:41:08Speaker 3: pressure a little bit better, then that would make me
- 1:41:10Speaker 3: feel a little bit better. But the whole point of
- 1:41:12Speaker 3: sitting him right now, to me is to see what
- 1:41:14Speaker 3: it looks like like. You don't know what it's gonna
- 1:41:16Speaker 3: look like. So instead of throwing him into the unknown,
- 1:41:19Speaker 3: at least if you throw him into a situation where
- 1:41:21Speaker 3: you are like, we know this might not be great,
- 1:41:24Speaker 3: at least you know ahead of time.
- 1:41:25Speaker 5: What was The line out there today was Chukes, Ukes Leverage,
- 1:41:29Speaker 5: Andrews Robinson on one.
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: Yeah, it's the latest, uh Scott and Virginia. Since we
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: all know sitting May has to do with the O line.
- 1:41:39Speaker 2: What checklist does the O line need to meet for
- 1:41:43Speaker 2: everyone to feel comfortable starting May? If blocking is fine
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: but penalties are constant, I'd still be okay starting putting
- 1:41:51Speaker 2: May in.
- 1:41:52Speaker 4: I'm okay putting May in whenever, Like that's not an
- 1:41:56Speaker 4: impediment to me. I guess I'm I.
- 1:41:59Speaker 5: I think it's just going to be hard to say, Okay,
- 1:42:01Speaker 5: they're okay now like that. It's just hard to say
- 1:42:04Speaker 5: they you know, you just have. It's a feel and
- 1:42:06Speaker 5: a trust in you.
- 1:42:08Speaker 4: Know, so if you're waiting for that, you might never
- 1:42:09Speaker 4: be able to put them in right like you might
- 1:42:13Speaker 4: feel good put like that. That's sort of what PFF
- 1:42:17Speaker 4: graded them out as the top line.
- 1:42:18Speaker 5: All right, we're we're good, we can put them in there.
- 1:42:20Speaker 3: That's sort of where I have come with it from
- 1:42:23Speaker 3: sneaky snarky. I like it. I like it, but Paul,
- 1:42:28Speaker 3: because like I'm like in the middle, because you can't
- 1:42:32Speaker 3: wait forever, Like if you're gonna sit here and wait
- 1:42:34Speaker 3: for Will Campbell to come down and save your offensive line.
- 1:42:37Speaker 3: But what if Will Campbell ends up being a bus
- 1:42:40Speaker 3: like then I don't.
- 1:42:41Speaker 4: I don't thinking what the kids are go out there
- 1:42:42Speaker 4: and rerunning for his life either, And I understand that.
- 1:42:45Speaker 4: I just I don't necessarily think that's gonna happen. And
- 1:42:48Speaker 4: I don't want to sound like Mike and it'll be fine.
- 1:42:50Speaker 4: I'm not saying that. I think there are issues with
- 1:42:53Speaker 4: the offensive line. I think, and I've said this many times,
- 1:42:56Speaker 4: there's some value in playing behind you know, less than
- 1:42:59Speaker 4: optimal offensive line. There's there's some value to be gained
- 1:43:03Speaker 4: by that, and you know, to do all the stuff
- 1:43:06Speaker 4: that Evan's talking about and recognizing where pressure is going
- 1:43:08Speaker 4: to come from. I don't think it's just going to
- 1:43:10Speaker 4: be five guys just losing their one on one battle
- 1:43:13Speaker 4: every play and not what's going to happen, right, do
- 1:43:17Speaker 4: you know what I mean? Yeah? Now it doesn't happen
- 1:43:19Speaker 4: to any offense.
- 1:43:20Speaker 3: And lostep with Michael Holly.
- 1:43:22Speaker 4: No, he thinks it's good. I don't.
- 1:43:25Speaker 3: He just thinks.
- 1:43:26Speaker 4: I think there's pressure that you're going to have deal
- 1:43:29Speaker 4: with it, learn learn from it, understand how to play well.
- 1:43:33Speaker 4: You know, this guy's coming off the backside, and that
- 1:43:35Speaker 4: guy is going to be coming free. Like, I think
- 1:43:37Speaker 4: there's a value to that to learn that. You know,
- 1:43:40Speaker 4: you can watch it on film and say, oh, this
- 1:43:42Speaker 4: guy came here, this guy be how do you handle it?
- 1:43:45Speaker 3: Right?
- 1:43:46Speaker 4: You know, under fire? How do you how do you
- 1:43:48Speaker 4: deal with that?
- 1:43:49Speaker 2: Learn more from your failures than you do usee.
- 1:43:52Speaker 4: That's my feeling. I'm not out there under any illusion
- 1:43:55Speaker 4: that all of a sudden he's gonna you know, if
- 1:43:56Speaker 4: he played seventeen games, you know, Drake May's going to
- 1:43:59Speaker 4: go out there and get sackific ten times for the
- 1:44:01Speaker 4: whole season. I don't think that's going to happen. Iron
- 1:44:03Speaker 4: sharp iron, he's going to get sacked more than Brissett would.
- 1:44:06Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:44:07Speaker 5: I've heard that iron though not aluminum iron ion, right,
- 1:44:11Speaker 5: And he taught me that right.
- 1:44:13Speaker 3: For what it's worth, he did also play behind a
- 1:44:15Speaker 3: terrible offensive line in North Carolina, and.
- 1:44:17Speaker 4: Like I understand say people said that led to him
- 1:44:20Speaker 4: is bad.
- 1:44:21Speaker 3: I said, for what it's worth, because it's college and
- 1:44:24Speaker 3: it's the ACC and it's not it's not NFL football.
- 1:44:28Speaker 3: But he played behind a bad offensive line for all
- 1:44:32Speaker 3: of last year. At North Carolina, Like talking to his
- 1:44:34Speaker 3: coaches down there, they said that was probably the biggest
- 1:44:37Speaker 3: reason why. You know, the year before they go to
- 1:44:39Speaker 3: the a SEC Championship game, he's a SC Player of
- 1:44:41Speaker 3: the Year, all these accolades, all these awards, and then
- 1:44:44Speaker 3: last year they took a huge step back, and they
- 1:44:46Speaker 3: said a big reason probably was the offensive line.
- 1:44:49Speaker 2: Uh Reno in Tennessee. I know I was expecting Jacoby
- 1:44:52Speaker 2: to start the season, but I'm still pretty mad. I
- 1:44:55Speaker 2: don't think they ever intended on having him compete to
- 1:44:58Speaker 2: start the season, which begs the question why lead us
- 1:45:01Speaker 2: on like they did? Drag this out for nothing. I
- 1:45:04Speaker 2: agree with Evan in a sense, I don't care to
- 1:45:06Speaker 2: watch Jakobe play at all. How is how are they
- 1:45:10Speaker 2: going to get May ready to start sitting on the bench.
- 1:45:13Speaker 2: What's the difference than what he was doing in preseason
- 1:45:17Speaker 2: watching film and taking second team reps. I understand the
- 1:45:20Speaker 2: argument the team isn't ready for him, but I'm still
- 1:45:23Speaker 2: bummed we have to wait.
- 1:45:25Speaker 5: I've got a little bit of a take development on
- 1:45:27Speaker 5: this one, and it's maybe it's not even a take,
- 1:45:28Speaker 5: but I just I think that this is a little
- 1:45:30Speaker 5: bit of Mayo's inexperience and wanting to take from Bill competition,
- 1:45:35Speaker 5: and I think that that's something that you should always
- 1:45:37Speaker 5: preach on, you know, for your team, we want to
- 1:45:40Speaker 5: foster competition. But it's also a unique situation. So one
- 1:45:44Speaker 5: one Handy's saying competition, it's a competition, but what you're
- 1:45:48Speaker 5: kind of seeing is that it's not a competition. So
- 1:45:50Speaker 5: it's I just I think it's a little bit of
- 1:45:51Speaker 5: Mayo's inexperience and not knowing how exactly to I just
- 1:45:55Speaker 5: think it's coach paint the picture.
- 1:45:57Speaker 4: Don't you want to try to create a culture of
- 1:45:59Speaker 4: competition and draining.
- 1:46:00Speaker 3: Yeah, everybody should be competing.
- 1:46:01Speaker 4: I think it was taken super literally about that position
- 1:46:05Speaker 4: for obvious reasons. I don't think anybody took it wrong,
- 1:46:07Speaker 4: not making fun of anybody, but I never really thought
- 1:46:10Speaker 4: it was a competition. I said that the day that
- 1:46:12Speaker 4: we did our first first day, I didn't think there
- 1:46:15Speaker 4: was any chance.
- 1:46:15Speaker 2: All success is earned, but.
- 1:46:19Speaker 4: It's rented, not owned.
- 1:46:22Speaker 3: That was a good one. I liked that one.
- 1:46:23Speaker 4: You remember that one.
- 1:46:24Speaker 2: I liked that Christians in Virginia on the a State
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: House Christian what's up, hey, guys, I.
- 1:46:32Speaker 14: Know Paul just said, don't complain or don't be so sensitive.
- 1:46:37Speaker 14: But having been at the Commander's game, I gotta say
- 1:46:41Speaker 14: I felt a little bit frustrated, and I was wondering
- 1:46:44Speaker 14: your take on the athletes interactions with the fans. You know,
- 1:46:50Speaker 14: I understand it's probably frustrating for them, feeling like they're
- 1:46:53Speaker 14: gonna do with a bunch of drug people yelling at them,
- 1:46:56Speaker 14: But at the same time, like little Timmy's sitting over
- 1:46:59Speaker 14: here year with this jersey waiting to get signed, and
- 1:47:03Speaker 14: the only person I saw I was sitting in the
- 1:47:05Speaker 14: front two rows. The only player that I saw interact
- 1:47:09Speaker 14: with any fans, just from my point of view, was
- 1:47:11Speaker 14: Bailey's happy, And it was kind of like, I'm not
- 1:47:15Speaker 14: expecting anyone to act like they're running for president, but
- 1:47:18Speaker 14: I just wanted to get you guys' opinion on that,
- 1:47:20Speaker 14: especially when the date of our team and the play
- 1:47:23Speaker 14: isn't really the best. You know, you kind of hope
- 1:47:26Speaker 14: that there's a few other factors that you can maybe
- 1:47:29Speaker 14: lean on a little bit to entertain the people that
- 1:47:30Speaker 14: are coming out and sport the team.
- 1:47:32Speaker 2: All right, thanks, thanks Christian. I mean, this is an
- 1:47:35Speaker 2: age old fan complaint when guys don't sign.
- 1:47:38Speaker 4: You know, during the game. Yeah, so I think it
- 1:47:42Speaker 4: was after, but I just I was just game day.
- 1:47:45Speaker 4: I would just say that.
- 1:47:48Speaker 3: We have nothing to do with that, right, Like we
- 1:47:50Speaker 3: get these questions in the mail bag all the time too,
- 1:47:52Speaker 3: of like people getting mad at like not mad at
- 1:47:54Speaker 3: us necessarily, but like thinking that we have any sort
- 1:47:56Speaker 3: of poll to get any of this done, Like this
- 1:48:00Speaker 3: is not yea, I'm sorry, but like we have no
- 1:48:03Speaker 3: And what.
- 1:48:03Speaker 4: I was mentioning not being sensitive about, was if the
- 1:48:07Speaker 4: people are critiquing the play of Drake, may don't necessarily
- 1:48:11Speaker 4: like do what we normally do and say, Okay, he's again,
- 1:48:14Speaker 4: he's again. You don't cross him off the list. He's
- 1:48:17Speaker 4: a hater. No, Like, you know, listen to it and
- 1:48:20Speaker 4: just determine for yourself. Oh that's actually a good point.
- 1:48:22Speaker 4: Oh well, I don't. I don't agree with that point.
- 1:48:25Speaker 4: There's plenty of like the Yulowski's of the world that
- 1:48:28Speaker 4: I take some of the things and I say, oh,
- 1:48:29Speaker 4: well that that made a lot of sense. I take
- 1:48:31Speaker 4: some others and I'm like, I don't really see it
- 1:48:33Speaker 4: that way, but I don't hate the guy for life.
- 1:48:36Speaker 4: That's what I was saying, try not to be so sensitive.
- 1:48:38Speaker 2: About Yeah, Bill and Vista California. What's up, Billy? Yeahs?
- 1:48:44Speaker 9: First time, long time. Last night I dreamt that Drake
- 1:48:49Speaker 9: got the nods at the start position. Woke up come
- 1:48:52Speaker 9: at me, surprised when I found out D Kobe was
- 1:48:54Speaker 9: the starter. I'm not really mad, more or less disappointed.
- 1:48:58Speaker 4: Not even mad. Yeah, sounds like my fast just disappointed.
- 1:49:03Speaker 3: What happened Bill?
- 1:49:04Speaker 2: You there?
- 1:49:04Speaker 9: I mean, speaking of matter disappointment. Do you guys take
- 1:49:07Speaker 9: anything away from Gard's pressor this morning, from his body
- 1:49:11Speaker 9: language and a little protein but beeing like, I don't know, Jacobi,
- 1:49:15Speaker 9: wasn't really the way you wanted to go?
- 1:49:17Speaker 2: Yeah, did I take it?
- 1:49:20Speaker 4: I didn't take anything away from today Earlier I.
- 1:49:23Speaker 2: Thought it was an inefficient way to handle the whole situation.
- 1:49:28Speaker 2: But I do wonder, like what forces are behind telling
- 1:49:31Speaker 2: drive you gotta do it this way, You got to
- 1:49:33Speaker 2: do it that way, You gotta do it this way.
- 1:49:34Speaker 2: You got to do a press release, you got to
- 1:49:35Speaker 2: do a press conference. You can't do you can't tweet
- 1:49:38Speaker 2: it out, you can't. I just wonder like, at some point,
- 1:49:40Speaker 2: and I'm talking to you, draw this is do what
- 1:49:43Speaker 2: you want to do. You're the head coach. Don't let
- 1:49:46Speaker 2: anyone tell you how to do things and what to do.
- 1:49:49Speaker 2: You've got instincts. You've been in the league a long
- 1:49:51Speaker 2: time as a pro, You've seen press conferences, You've seen
- 1:49:54Speaker 2: other coaches do what you want to do.
- 1:49:57Speaker 4: Don't you know how you're telling them what to do.
- 1:50:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm telling him to do. I'm telling him how
- 1:50:03Speaker 2: to do it his way. Whatever you think is right,
- 1:50:06Speaker 2: that's what you should do. Don't don't worry about all
- 1:50:09Speaker 2: this other garbage.
- 1:50:10Speaker 5: Usually Fred only goes to camera to the fans when
- 1:50:12Speaker 5: they need a kick the fourth wall.
- 1:50:14Speaker 3: I love when he breaks the fourth He made a
- 1:50:16Speaker 3: fantastic I think there's way too many voices in his
- 1:50:19Speaker 3: head right now. Yeah, just my opinion, but I think
- 1:50:23Speaker 3: that he is leaning on a VP with the offensive
- 1:50:27Speaker 3: stuff and McAdoo because it's not really his area expertise.
- 1:50:30Speaker 3: So he's got to take their input. He's got input
- 1:50:32Speaker 3: from Elliott, He's got input from all directions. And it's
- 1:50:35Speaker 3: like the end of the day, you're the head coach
- 1:50:37Speaker 3: of the football team, like you make a decision. Yeah,
- 1:50:40Speaker 3: And even today he said, We've I've decided.
- 1:50:45Speaker 2: Yeah, and I do believe this was his decision.
- 1:50:48Speaker 5: I don't doubt that, but I think Evan's got a
- 1:50:50Speaker 5: good point. I clocked that too. We're being conscious of
- 1:50:53Speaker 5: the wieze and the eyes and who's making the dis.
- 1:50:55Speaker 3: Right, because it's one thing to say we're collaborative, but
- 1:50:57Speaker 3: the buck has to stop. And when it comes to
- 1:50:59Speaker 3: the ross and who you know that who's actually playing
- 1:51:02Speaker 3: in the game, who's starting at quarterback, That's got to
- 1:51:05Speaker 3: be him. It can't be coming from upstairs.
- 1:51:08Speaker 2: We need more mic drops from Gerard. That's it. That's it.
- 1:51:12Speaker 4: Now goes back to another country heard from now. I
- 1:51:15Speaker 4: got to listen to Kurse.
- 1:51:19Speaker 2: Let's see. Cody writes in hearing Paul mentioned on Tuesday,
- 1:51:24Speaker 2: saying something along the lines of he's not so sure
- 1:51:27Speaker 2: they will play may as early as everyone thinks. I
- 1:51:29Speaker 2: thought Paul was trolling. After hearing Mayo today, I think
- 1:51:33Speaker 2: Paul is onto something. If Jacoby is playing game manager,
- 1:51:36Speaker 2: no turnover ball, seems like he will maybe have a
- 1:51:39Speaker 2: lengthy leash.
- 1:51:40Speaker 4: I don't think that has anything to do with it.
- 1:51:42Speaker 4: I think it's all about may Yeah, but it's the
- 1:51:46Speaker 4: thing that's going to make it really difficult for us
- 1:51:50Speaker 4: who's to assess, like, yeah, we get ready ines you're
- 1:51:53Speaker 4: talking about even if you were watched every rep of
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: every practice. Who is to assess the mental acuity? Like,
- 1:52:00Speaker 4: how do you know if he made the right read
- 1:52:02Speaker 4: every time or called the play properly in the huddle?
- 1:52:06Speaker 4: For all you know, every guy's like every play is
- 1:52:08Speaker 4: getting botched as they're calling it, and then someone's got
- 1:52:11Speaker 4: to correct David Andrews, No, no, actually, Drake, it's this
- 1:52:15Speaker 4: like who knows. There's no way we have of knowing that.
- 1:52:18Speaker 3: Yeah. He did say something funny after the game on
- 1:52:20Speaker 3: Sunday night that he tends to talk too fast, and
- 1:52:24Speaker 3: he said, I even do it with you guys in
- 1:52:25Speaker 3: front of the media. And he said that sometimes I'll
- 1:52:28Speaker 3: get into the huddle and then guys will be like Drake, like, yeah,
- 1:52:31Speaker 3: he does talk fast, you know, take a breath. So
- 1:52:34Speaker 3: I'm not saying that it's that big you.
- 1:52:37Speaker 4: Think when he calls the play, he starts.
- 1:52:38Speaker 5: With the year. Yeah, he's listening.
- 1:52:42Speaker 4: He looks that should be his cadence. He like stares
- 1:52:45Speaker 4: holes eyes and say.
- 1:52:47Speaker 3: You love it.
- 1:52:50Speaker 2: Kendall's in North Carolina hate Kendall. Hey, kend Hey, you
- 1:52:57Speaker 2: just called what's up Kendle there?
- 1:52:59Speaker 9: You uh real quick?
- 1:53:01Speaker 2: This one.
- 1:53:05Speaker 9: Just to early look on the Bengals dfense or whatnot.
- 1:53:08Speaker 9: How do you like a wide receiver matchups? Appreciate it?
- 1:53:12Speaker 3: Okay, we have wide receiver matchups against their secondary.
- 1:53:15Speaker 2: Next week is when we get into Bengals week. Just
- 1:53:18Speaker 2: start breaking down their roster against Star and what the
- 1:53:21Speaker 2: matchups might be and all that. So I'm not prepared.
- 1:53:25Speaker 4: Speaking for myself, let me make some indecision there with Chase.
- 1:53:28Speaker 3: Let me just say that he didn't show up to practices.
- 1:53:30Speaker 4: He was at practice, but didn't practice practice.
- 1:53:32Speaker 5: Yeah, I would just say this. I think I said
- 1:53:34Speaker 5: on Tuesday show, going back a little bit, looking at
- 1:53:36Speaker 5: Cleveland's matchup, which is you know how alex Vin Pelton
- 1:53:39Speaker 5: those guys viewed Cincinnati, who they played twice every year.
- 1:53:42Speaker 5: I said, they ran the ball forty times in two
- 1:53:44Speaker 5: of the last three games. Take it for what it's worth.
- 1:53:46Speaker 5: I mean to me, that sounds like you know, we're
- 1:53:48Speaker 5: we're gonna want to run Romandre Gibson play action a
- 1:53:52Speaker 5: lot of that.
- 1:53:54Speaker 4: Yep.
- 1:53:55Speaker 2: So I teased a big bridge.

- 1:54:54Speaker 2: I don't go by that anymore. They have been read
- 1:54:56Speaker 2: right since the forties.

- 1:55:33Speaker 2: Alex Barth, he's been sitting in his hole for like
- 1:55:35Speaker 2: two hours getting ready.
- 1:55:37Speaker 3: This is what he said. He wanted to do what
- 1:55:38Speaker 3: he wants to do. Well, what else is going He

- 1:55:58Speaker 2: We need to do.
