- 0:15Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode ninety six of Cards
- 0:19Speaker 1: and Categories. I'm Mike Coolard from Masball, joined as always
- 0:23Speaker 1: by my very good friend Jeremy Brewer, also from Masball.
- 0:27Speaker 1: How you doing tonight, buddy, You survive in the heat wave?
- 0:30Speaker 1: You still intact or have you melted into a pile
- 0:33Speaker 1: of goo?
- 0:34Speaker 2: Mostly melted into a pile of goo. It is a
- 0:36Speaker 2: wonderful heat wave. We have officially hit Midsummer, which is
- 0:40Speaker 2: great for baseball. But you know how I really feel
- 0:43Speaker 2: is I feel like Pete crow Armstrong catching the fly
- 0:45Speaker 2: ball at the wall, no cares in the world make
- 0:48Speaker 2: it look easy, and letting somebodytack him from second all
- 0:51Speaker 2: the way home. So I'm ready to go. Like I said,
- 0:55Speaker 2: no cares in the world.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I mean, we do have to give Mason went a
- 0:59Speaker 1: little bit if credit for his speed that there's a
- 1:01Speaker 1: good chance that he could have done that just about anyways.
- 1:05Speaker 1: But yeah, PCA did not help him out there. I
- 1:08Speaker 1: don't think we can speak tonight as we're talking tonight
- 1:11Speaker 1: on June twenty fifth, and the Cubs are just absolutely
- 1:14Speaker 1: pounding the Cardinals. But it's good for two games of
- 1:16Speaker 1: the series. The n All Central looks great. It should
- 1:18Speaker 1: be shaping up for a fun and l race there.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I probably should have checked the score
- 1:24Speaker 2: before I started talking, But it's okay. It's okay.
- 1:29Speaker 1: So what we're gonna do on this episode for the
- 1:31Speaker 1: main segment is talk about I just labeled it prospects
- 1:35Speaker 1: We love, so guys that we've really been digging. I
- 1:38Speaker 1: think we're in a little bit of a lull in
- 1:40Speaker 1: between just some of the main prospects coming up, and
- 1:44Speaker 1: then especially at this point, we're just a few weeks
- 1:46Speaker 1: out from the All Star breaks, so they want to
- 1:49Speaker 1: keep the teams that is, probably want to keep some
- 1:52Speaker 1: of their best prospects down so they can play in
- 1:54Speaker 1: the futures Game. And just like it's a natural breaking
- 1:58Speaker 1: point and really no great reason less an injury to
- 2:01Speaker 1: bring up a top prospect. So I think a few
- 2:04Speaker 1: of these guys that we're going to talk about will
- 2:06Speaker 1: be deeper stashes, you know, more of Dynasty League plays.
- 2:09Speaker 1: But we've also got some that are probably going to
- 2:11Speaker 1: be right on the cusp as we get past the
- 2:14Speaker 1: All Star break. And I mean we've got some pictures
- 2:17Speaker 1: in there too, So it only takes one or two
- 2:19Speaker 1: injuries for some of these guys to really make their
- 2:22Speaker 1: way to the major leagues from even double A or
- 2:26Speaker 1: maybe even one guy we got at high A that
- 2:28Speaker 1: might be making that jump, although we'll get to it
- 2:31Speaker 1: we cross that bridge, because I don't know how much
- 2:33Speaker 1: longer he'll be down there. Okay, but before we get
- 2:36Speaker 1: into that, make sure to check out those show notes
- 2:39Speaker 1: for all of the links that we're going to discuss here,
- 2:42Speaker 1: and you will have the links to rasball dot com
- 2:45Speaker 1: where you can sign up for a subscription get you
- 2:48Speaker 1: through the rest of the season. I've been using it.
- 2:51Speaker 1: It's been really great for the streamin ator rate recently.
- 2:53Speaker 1: I mean, Rudy's got the algorithm set to where helps
- 2:57Speaker 1: us navigate around some of the warm weather stuff. And
- 3:01Speaker 1: I've noticed on the pitchers, especially, lots more negatives than
- 3:04Speaker 1: positives there used to be, just because the wind's been
- 3:07Speaker 1: howling all across the country and those temperatures are heating up.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Maybe new bag of balls too, No, I know, there's
- 3:14Speaker 1: a it's mostly the heat. So it's the fun part
- 3:17Speaker 1: of the summer for baseball. Let's get into some of
- 3:20Speaker 1: the news and notes that we're about to discuss, and
- 3:23Speaker 1: we've got some big injuries. We've got some big call ups,
- 3:25Speaker 1: nothing bigger than off the top outfielder Corbin Carroll from
- 3:29Speaker 1: the Arizona Diamondbacks beamed in the wrist and then he
- 3:33Speaker 1: played a game. There's kind of a will he won't
- 3:36Speaker 1: he with the injured list as the initial kind of
- 3:39Speaker 1: scans only showed inflammation on Carroll's risks. They went back
- 3:43Speaker 1: to the full MRI and found a chip fracture in
- 3:45Speaker 1: that left wrist. So at this point we don't necessarily
- 3:49Speaker 1: have a great timetable. It could be a couple of weeks,
- 3:52Speaker 1: it could be four weeks, six weeks, eight weeks. But
- 3:55Speaker 1: we're talking rist injury for one of the hottest players
- 3:59Speaker 1: in baseball. Before he went down, he was carrying those
- 4:02Speaker 1: leagues with twenty homers, ten stone bases, a two fifty
- 4:06Speaker 1: five three forty one, five seventy three slash line corporn
- 4:11Speaker 1: Carroll was back and what do you think he will
- 4:13Speaker 1: be now after this wrist injury?
- 4:16Speaker 2: Yeah, Risk injuries are not good. I mean that's another
- 4:20Speaker 2: that's I mean, you get you get a lot of
- 4:22Speaker 2: injuries that you come back with and you can kind
- 4:25Speaker 2: of get get back in rhythm pretty quickly. But you know,
- 4:29Speaker 2: a risk injury is really one of those that it
- 4:32Speaker 2: seems to be that like the general principles, like the
- 4:35Speaker 2: rest of that season is almost like lost, Like they
- 4:38Speaker 2: come back and it just takes time to like get
- 4:43Speaker 2: back that quick twitch strength in the in the wrist.
- 4:46Speaker 2: And I'm worried about Carol the rest of this year, right.
- 4:50Speaker 2: I don't doubt the talent, I just doubt the recovery.
- 4:53Speaker 2: And it's hard to tell because to your point, like
- 4:56Speaker 2: looks like inflammation missed the actual fracture, Like how about
- 5:00Speaker 2: is it really we don't know. Not a lot of
- 5:01Speaker 2: reports out in that, but I think it's gonna be
- 5:03Speaker 2: out a while. I'd peg it at maybe six to
- 5:06Speaker 2: eight weeks, and I'm just I'm not confident he's gonna
- 5:10Speaker 2: come back extremely strong, at least from a power perspective,
- 5:14Speaker 2: and that's where he's he's actually carried this year is
- 5:17Speaker 2: that power speed combo and more on the power side.
- 5:20Speaker 2: So yeah, I'm definitely down on this one. It's really unfortunate,
- 5:25Speaker 2: but I'm I'm gonna take him down to market, and honestly,
- 5:28Speaker 2: if he doesn't come back and really take things off,
- 5:31Speaker 2: I gotta knock him down a few marks even next year,
- 5:33Speaker 2: Like and these are the ones that just seem to
- 5:36Speaker 2: for hitters can linger. They absolutely can't linger until you fully,
- 5:41Speaker 2: fully let it heal. You would like to think that's
- 5:44Speaker 2: not gonna happen next year, Like I said, I want
- 5:46Speaker 2: to see him healthy at the end of this year
- 5:47Speaker 2: for sure before I'm in invest in big draft capital
- 5:51Speaker 2: next year.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Yeah, and you do also have to wonder what it does,
- 5:56Speaker 1: like you said, to that power level going forward, because
- 5:59Speaker 1: he reached just another tier, like one Soto level tier
- 6:03Speaker 1: of fifteen point five percent barrel rate, fifty percent hard rate,
- 6:07Speaker 1: a max ev of one fifteen point eight this year
- 6:10Speaker 1: out of Carrol, he looked like your middle of the
- 6:14Speaker 1: order hitter with the possibility to steal fifty bases. I mean,
- 6:18Speaker 1: it really had put himself into probably top five, you know,
- 6:23Speaker 1: you conversation if you would like drafted for twenty twenty
- 6:26Speaker 1: six now, I think your top five before this injury
- 6:29Speaker 1: would have easily been Otani with Judge Ellie Carrol, And
- 6:37Speaker 1: so like, do are you still maybe worried about first
- 6:41Speaker 1: round or is this also you're you love buying broken
- 6:44Speaker 1: assets a lot. Is this a broken asset opportunity too
- 6:47Speaker 1: for somebody else that's wired about this risk.
- 6:50Speaker 2: I I don't think so, and you are absolutely right,
- 6:53Speaker 2: I have a problem. I do live like buying those broken,
- 6:56Speaker 2: broken players, but not the top three to five rounds.
- 7:00Speaker 2: I draw a line there. I will actually go the
- 7:02Speaker 2: other side. I want to make sure those guys that
- 7:04Speaker 2: by early are gonna be healthy and I'm gonna be
- 7:07Speaker 2: able to rely on it if I have injury concerns,
- 7:09Speaker 2: I do not want to invest a first or second
- 7:11Speaker 2: round pick for sure on those guys. So, like I said,
- 7:14Speaker 2: if I'm not seeing the health, there's enough other guys
- 7:18Speaker 2: that I'm willing to like. Yeah, it might not be
- 7:20Speaker 2: the peak performance, but if I'm getting Ronald Dacunya instead
- 7:24Speaker 2: of Corby and Carroll, like, i'd really have Carol fully healthy.
- 7:26Speaker 2: But I'll take a guy that I know is healthy.
- 7:29Speaker 2: And I guess Acuna is maybe a bad example. It's
- 7:31Speaker 2: not necessarily the epitome of health here, but right now healthy.
- 7:35Speaker 1: So yeah, I think that's totally fair there on Carol.
- 7:40Speaker 1: So I let's see kind of where it goes. But
- 7:43Speaker 1: I do agree it is much a kind of wait
- 7:46Speaker 1: and pause with Carol until we figure out maybe some
- 7:49Speaker 1: of those next steps because we've seen the ceiling. It's tremendous.
- 7:53Speaker 1: But this is guy who's also had the shoulder injuries,
- 7:56Speaker 1: you know, had that slump at the beginning of last year.
- 7:59Speaker 1: I think it's going to be a lot of up
- 8:02Speaker 1: and down because risk injuries are tough, tough, tough. As
- 8:05Speaker 1: you said, next injury, we have another guy who was
- 8:09Speaker 1: playing really well and was I mean he'd put the
- 8:14Speaker 1: braves kind of in sniffing distance of a playoff race.
- 8:17Speaker 1: I'm talking about Chris Sale going down with a fractured
- 8:21Speaker 1: rib cage after diving and making a play in the field.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Still stayed in there and faced a couple hitters, including
- 8:27Speaker 1: striking out Pete Alonzo with the injury. So I mean,
- 8:31Speaker 1: this is the guy who is thirty six years old,
- 8:34Speaker 1: was cruising again through eighty nine and a third innings
- 8:38Speaker 1: with an eleven and a half K nine A two
- 8:40Speaker 1: fifty two era A two sixty five fIF He looked
- 8:43Speaker 1: like Cy Young, Chris Young, Chris Sale going forward. So
- 8:50Speaker 1: what are you doing here? Because this is another kind
- 8:52Speaker 1: of really scary injury considering the amount of torque that
- 8:57Speaker 1: Chris Sale has always put on his joints when you're
- 8:59Speaker 1: putting that on the rib too. I guess I didn't
- 9:02Speaker 1: also mention this with Carol's like the d backs are
- 9:05Speaker 1: kind of falling out of the race, you have to
- 9:06Speaker 1: think the braves will start be falling out of the
- 9:08Speaker 1: race with this sail injury. You start getting territory of
- 9:11Speaker 1: does the team just kind of take it easy and
- 9:15Speaker 1: slow play them the rest of the season, or do
- 9:17Speaker 1: you think this is something where Chris sell is a
- 9:20Speaker 1: bulldog after seeing him face those players after the injury
- 9:24Speaker 1: and you think he can clau his way back quickly.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm really really mixed with them, because, like, if
- 9:29Speaker 2: you actually watch the injury, it didn't look that bad.
- 9:32Speaker 2: It didn't look like he really hurt himself. I mean,
- 9:35Speaker 2: first of all, Chris saille diving is probably just not
- 9:38Speaker 2: ideal with that lanky frame allbums. But like I just
- 9:43Speaker 2: I looked at it, watched it. He didn't look to
- 9:45Speaker 2: have that much pain, and so I'm like, how bad
- 9:47Speaker 2: can it really be? And he is a bit of
- 9:50Speaker 2: a bulldog kind of guy, and he's also thirty six,
- 9:53Speaker 2: it's not like he's got a ton of years left.
- 9:55Speaker 2: It's like, Okay, let's babe him through this and you know,
- 9:58Speaker 2: try to get back next year, like we've seen with
- 10:01Speaker 2: you know, some of these guys like Verlander and de
- 10:04Speaker 2: Grum and you know litany of older pictures where it's
- 10:09Speaker 2: just like you're trying to get the best of those
- 10:11Speaker 2: late years. I get sales been fantastic. I don't have
- 10:14Speaker 2: any reasonable leave next year. You're after he's gonna just
- 10:16Speaker 2: fall off. But like you know, he's not a spring
- 10:18Speaker 2: chicken here, and so like I I kind of feel
- 10:22Speaker 2: like you have to hold on to him and see
- 10:24Speaker 2: what the reports are because it didn't look that bad.
- 10:28Speaker 2: But I'm to your you've got the point here on
- 10:31Speaker 2: the lanky frame, like there's I mean, there's just not
- 10:35Speaker 2: a lot of room for him to be baby in
- 10:38Speaker 2: some some uh you know rib injury here, so uh
- 10:42Speaker 2: very mixed. I'm probably sitting pat if I got Chris Sale.
- 10:46Speaker 2: But you just have to help he gets back sooner
- 10:49Speaker 2: sooner than later. And it wasn't really a major major issue.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I totally agree that not much you
- 10:56Speaker 1: can do. I think I might be a little bit
- 10:58Speaker 1: more uh up on what Chrisale might be doing the
- 11:02Speaker 1: rest of his career because I think he sees how
- 11:03Speaker 1: close the Hall of Fame is. You see kind of
- 11:06Speaker 1: how long Grandy Johnson lasted in his career. I don't
- 11:10Speaker 1: know if Chrisale kind of wants to push him to
- 11:12Speaker 1: itself to that level too, of especially chasing a ring
- 11:16Speaker 1: and trying to find a spot to just kind of
- 11:18Speaker 1: enter a different eschelon I think of starting pitcher than
- 11:22Speaker 1: some of his peers. So let's move on to the
- 11:24Speaker 1: next injury. We have catcher Adley Retchman of the Baltimore Orioles,
- 11:28Speaker 1: who just as he was starting to find a groove
- 11:31Speaker 1: in June, he was hitting three oh nine, three eighty one,
- 11:34Speaker 1: five oh nine, that's a one fifty three WRC plus
- 11:37Speaker 1: over sixty three played appearances, had popped three homers after
- 11:41Speaker 1: you know, taking all the way through the end of
- 11:44Speaker 1: May to hit five before that. So he was starting
- 11:47Speaker 1: to find a groove. Goes down with the strained oblique.
- 11:50Speaker 1: It's the left one, and so you've got a really
- 11:54Speaker 1: mix of factors here between. He's a catcher, he's a
- 11:57Speaker 1: switch hitter. He's got this oblique injury. The Orioles are
- 12:01Speaker 1: falling further and further out of the race every day.
- 12:04Speaker 1: So this is another one where you're starting to push, Hey,
- 12:08Speaker 1: does this cape Adley down for a long time or
- 12:12Speaker 1: are you maybe looking to actually kind of pick him up,
- 12:15Speaker 1: kind of poke the wheels on ADLEI because you liked
- 12:19Speaker 1: some of the changes he started to make around June first.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I think this is one that it definitely reads
- 12:26Speaker 2: of the not so bad injury. You know, his first
- 12:31Speaker 2: described as abdominal tightness, and then a few days later
- 12:34Speaker 2: is on the IL saying Hey won't be back before
- 12:37Speaker 2: the All Star break, which isn't that terribly far away.
- 12:39Speaker 2: So like, I think we're missing Adlie for a few
- 12:42Speaker 2: weeks here, they're going to make sure that getting the
- 12:44Speaker 2: extra you know, rest the Ulstra break and he's back.
- 12:48Speaker 2: I've always liked Adley's swing. I've always thought he was
- 12:50Speaker 2: one of the best pure hitters from a catching perspective
- 12:53Speaker 2: out in the game. So I I still I'm I'm
- 12:56Speaker 2: still liking what I'm seeing from Adlie. There's a lot
- 13:00Speaker 2: of other options out there. The catcher position has really
- 13:03Speaker 2: consolidated the overall talent, So don't get me wrong, Like
- 13:07Speaker 2: I had Ady in a late league and I somehow
- 13:09Speaker 2: was able to pick up Drake Baldwin so somebody's asleep
- 13:12Speaker 2: at the wheel in that league. But I think there's
- 13:16Speaker 2: options out there that you're not hurt too bad. But
- 13:18Speaker 2: I'm not I'm not cutting addly Here's he's definitely an
- 13:22Speaker 2: ale can that I'm looking to cut somebody else and
- 13:25Speaker 2: get him back because I do think that he's got
- 13:27Speaker 2: a lot more in the tank.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that's fair. Let's move on to
- 13:32Speaker 1: another backstop injury, because I mean, I think I jinxed
- 13:35Speaker 1: this entire pool when I was writing about the catchers
- 13:39Speaker 1: this past Saturday on my Way for Wire column, because
- 13:42Speaker 1: I mentioned how deep catcher has been this year and
- 13:46Speaker 1: how there's really no need to pick any up, and
- 13:49Speaker 1: now we've got two that have fallen in the same week.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Ivon Herrero also got injured for the Saint Louis Cardinals.
- 13:56Speaker 1: He has a strained hamstring, and he went to with
- 14:00Speaker 1: a knee injury earlier in the year, so it's a
- 14:02Speaker 1: second stint on the il. He's been fantastic when he's
- 14:06Speaker 1: been playing. Honestly, he's been playing more DH than he
- 14:09Speaker 1: has been catcher, just because the bat has been so
- 14:12Speaker 1: superlutive for the Cardinals. It's been a three to twenty
- 14:15Speaker 1: three ninety two five thirty three slash line with a
- 14:19Speaker 1: one fifty nine WRC plus is what that clocks in
- 14:21Speaker 1: at a k rate below twenty percent, like a nine percent,
- 14:26Speaker 1: nine and a half percent walk rate, a great hard
- 14:29Speaker 1: hit rate, a barrel rate in the double digits. I
- 14:31Speaker 1: mean that is a DH. So, but we've got the
- 14:35Speaker 1: second injury now for Herrera. He's also kind of been
- 14:39Speaker 1: banged up here and there as he's kind of you know,
- 14:41Speaker 1: gone through his career. Are you worried about this second
- 14:45Speaker 1: injury on the season for Herrera or do you like
- 14:48Speaker 1: what you see in terms of a catcher that's a
- 14:50Speaker 1: DH and how valuable that can be for fantasy?
- 14:54Speaker 2: Yeah? I like him overall. Yeah. Injuries or maybe a
- 14:57Speaker 2: little concerning, but they're not. They don't appear this point
- 15:00Speaker 2: to be like a nagging scenario, you know, or something
- 15:04Speaker 2: that's uh, consistently the ham string or consistently the back,
- 15:08Speaker 2: like a Christian Yelle situation where it's like how far
- 15:10Speaker 2: is gonna get for hurts his back type of thing
- 15:12Speaker 2: that they do generally seem to be you know, unrelated injuries.
- 15:17Speaker 2: So I'll get in the benefit of the doubt for now.
- 15:21Speaker 2: He does absolutely look to be coming into his own
- 15:23Speaker 2: Like I you know, even as a Cardinals fan, I
- 15:25Speaker 2: did not see this coming this this well, and under
- 15:29Speaker 2: the hood it looks pretty gosh darting good. And so
- 15:32Speaker 2: he's getting he's getting at bats, he's he's taken advantage,
- 15:35Speaker 2: he's showing the power. Like we're talking about a guy
- 15:38Speaker 2: that's showing twenty homer power, uh from the catcher position.
- 15:41Speaker 2: That it's hard to say he's a three hundred hitter,
- 15:45Speaker 2: but like a two eighty hitter, Like he just looks
- 15:48Speaker 2: like he's spraying the ball very very well, and he
- 15:51Speaker 2: used takes takes advantage when a pitcher leaves something up there.
- 15:54Speaker 2: So I like Carrera long term, Like I don't think
- 15:57Speaker 2: he has a massive ceiling, but like if we're talking
- 16:01Speaker 2: like catcher six through nine, yeah, I'm very very happy
- 16:06Speaker 2: with that. So long term happy, short term sad, but
- 16:11Speaker 2: you know he'll be back.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I've been really loving Herrera. I think he was
- 16:16Speaker 1: one of my favorite pickups to start this season. Let's
- 16:18Speaker 1: just like, after you saw how hot he was in spring,
- 16:21Speaker 1: you could just there was something cooking there the entire
- 16:24Speaker 1: time that I think he's a superlative bat, like I said,
- 16:27Speaker 1: and so I'm I would stick with him as much
- 16:29Speaker 1: as you can. Next injury we've got is Jake Berger
- 16:33Speaker 1: going down with an oblique strain, who since his recall
- 16:36Speaker 1: from Triple A on May twelfth, has been exactly Jake
- 16:40Speaker 1: Berger in two forty three average, so a tick below
- 16:43Speaker 1: his typical two fifty. But he had hit seven homers
- 16:46Speaker 1: in thirty five games, that's just around like a twenty
- 16:51Speaker 1: eight homer ish pace, and had put up fourteen runs
- 16:54Speaker 1: seventeen rbi, that's around eighty ish. So like, that's exactly
- 16:58Speaker 1: Jake Berger, somebody that you're stashing away because you like
- 17:01Speaker 1: the bat and what he's shown since his recall.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think he's irreplaceable by any means, like
- 17:09Speaker 2: Cornfielder like, and that's always who Jake Berger's been. Like,
- 17:12Speaker 2: he's he's got power, doesn't hit for an average empty
- 17:15Speaker 2: in the speed column, even though he's faster than you
- 17:18Speaker 2: would think. And I have a little like miffed to
- 17:24Speaker 2: the fact that he definitely looked hurt on the swing
- 17:27Speaker 2: immediately out of the game. But yes, they're saying minimal
- 17:29Speaker 2: Iel stay, I'm not buying that, to be frank, And
- 17:34Speaker 2: so I think he's gonna be out for a little
- 17:36Speaker 2: bit longer. I say more All Star break than anything.
- 17:39Speaker 2: But yeah, I think he's definitely a guy that you
- 17:42Speaker 2: hold on to and as long as you know you're
- 17:45Speaker 2: get into there's probably ten homers in a two fifty
- 17:49Speaker 2: average the rest of the way with some decent RBIs
- 17:51Speaker 2: that's who Jake Burger is once you get him back
- 17:54Speaker 2: after the All Star Break.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Yep, I think that's a very fair assessment. Okay, let's
- 17:58Speaker 1: move on to some call up. So we've got Chase
- 18:02Speaker 1: Burns making his debut in Cincinnati with the Reds just yesterday.
- 18:07Speaker 1: I don't know how much did the start you were
- 18:09Speaker 1: able to catch, but looked fantastic on the mound, ninety
- 18:12Speaker 1: six mile an hour fastball with just a wicked, wicked slider.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Struck out eight in his debut over five innings, including
- 18:21Speaker 1: striking out his first six batters that he faced. It
- 18:24Speaker 1: was a tough draw against the Yankees at home, so
- 18:28Speaker 1: you know, the era looks a little boded here, but
- 18:30Speaker 1: the FIP is two forty eight and he looks like
- 18:34Speaker 1: a superlative pitcher. That's my word of the night, I
- 18:38Speaker 1: think is superlative. It's like the fourth time I've already
- 18:41Speaker 1: used it. Burns is nasty, dude, Like this is some
- 18:46Speaker 1: fantastic stuff. I think it's hard to not overstate how
- 18:50Speaker 1: quickly you've got to move him up the board. It's
- 18:52Speaker 1: the same thing with Missy Raski at this point, where
- 18:54Speaker 1: like it's so nasty, it's so overwhelming, You've got to
- 18:59Speaker 1: like move these guys pretty far up your rankings. And
- 19:02Speaker 1: so I don't think you can entertain the Burns like
- 19:06Speaker 1: owner and your dynasty right now, given just how quickly
- 19:09Speaker 1: he came through the system and how nasty he was.
- 19:15Speaker 1: But if you had to, like what would you shell out?
- 19:17Speaker 1: Especially because we're starting to get into to sell trade season,
- 19:20Speaker 1: So I think it is important to start considering. Is
- 19:23Speaker 1: Chase Burns like one of those guys where like you
- 19:26Speaker 1: would feel comfortable making him your number one going into
- 19:29Speaker 1: twenty twenty six? Yeah?
- 19:32Speaker 2: Am I comform link in my number one? Probably not?
- 19:37Speaker 2: I don't want to, But there's there's worse bets out there.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Like he does all the things you like. He has
- 19:45Speaker 2: a three pitch mix, and I think the change up
- 19:48Speaker 2: looked better than people thought it was going to be.
- 19:50Speaker 2: And I think that's that's a big reason I'm willing
- 19:53Speaker 2: to entertain it. The control has always been there, always
- 19:58Speaker 2: been a good job of keeping on the round and
- 20:01Speaker 2: just looks to be overpowering and that slighter is nasty
- 20:06Speaker 2: and so like he's got all the ingredients. And I
- 20:09Speaker 2: personally think that I maybe underestimated Burns solely because of Cincinnati,
- 20:14Speaker 2: not because of Burns himself, and like I just I
- 20:16Speaker 2: have a tendency to stay away from Cincinnati pictures, Like
- 20:19Speaker 2: it just has never seemed to really work out for
- 20:22Speaker 2: anybody coming through that system. But I think you have to, like,
- 20:28Speaker 2: if you're looking long term, you have to be paying
- 20:30Speaker 2: up like he's a top fifteen to twenty pitcher. If
- 20:33Speaker 2: you're like in a Dynasty league, that's the level I
- 20:35Speaker 2: think you have to be paying. And if you're gonna
- 20:38Speaker 2: try to get him now, you're probably paying top ten prices.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Like that's I think what you have to pay because
- 20:44Speaker 2: of the longevity, the link, the age, and he's one
- 20:48Speaker 2: of those guys that if you're gonna tell me in
- 20:51Speaker 2: the next few years he's a top five pitcher, I'm
- 20:52Speaker 2: not gonna argue, Like all the ingredients are there, it's
- 20:55Speaker 2: just does he put it all together consistently once the
- 20:58Speaker 2: league is a chance to see him, Like do they adapt?
- 21:01Speaker 2: Is there something about his sequencing or the way he uh,
- 21:05Speaker 2: you know, he doesn't play the change up, doesn't really
- 21:08Speaker 2: truly develop the way it looks like it has. Like
- 21:10Speaker 2: there's a lot of questions, but I'm not gonna argue
- 21:13Speaker 2: against anybody that says he could be a top five
- 21:15Speaker 2: pitcher in this league. And I think the same thing
- 21:17Speaker 2: with Miserowski, Like both of those guys right now, Like
- 21:20Speaker 2: Miserowski was again brilliant tonight, Like you can't argue that
- 21:25Speaker 2: there's a ton of value. And that's what's so interesting
- 21:27Speaker 2: with pitching right now is these guys can come up
- 21:32Speaker 2: and just be electric and they're just they're running up
- 21:34Speaker 2: the board because pitching has been a landmine this year
- 21:37Speaker 2: with injuries like the reliable that's falling apart, Like I mean,
- 21:42Speaker 2: how many Baily overshares that I've got that have you know,
- 21:45Speaker 2: shot me in the in the in the foot, Like
- 21:47Speaker 2: it's been a challenge and so you gotta you gotta
- 21:51Speaker 2: look that, let that youth go and see what can happen.
- 21:53Speaker 2: So by Burns if you haven't, if he's not available.
- 21:56Speaker 2: He should not be available anywhere at this point. But
- 21:58Speaker 2: if he is, somehow stop listening, go pick them up,
- 22:01Speaker 2: then come back please and finish.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Off the pop. Yeah, I think you're totally right on
- 22:07Speaker 1: Burns that the more and more I see him and
- 22:09Speaker 1: you just kind of look at how fast pictures come
- 22:12Speaker 1: and go and flame out, like you've got to get
- 22:14Speaker 1: in on it quick. And I do think that this
- 22:17Speaker 1: new breed of pictures coming through has a little bit
- 22:20Speaker 1: better understanding of how to stay healthy. Knock on wood.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Just it's totally anecdotal, but you look at schemes and
- 22:27Speaker 1: you just look at like the warm up routine that
- 22:30Speaker 1: he had and kind of what they ran him through
- 22:32Speaker 1: in college that I do wonder if some of these
- 22:35Speaker 1: college players that are coming through systems so quickly just
- 22:38Speaker 1: have a really good understanding of that these college programs
- 22:42Speaker 1: have become so advanced just analytically and have like the
- 22:47Speaker 1: wherewithal to just really dive into some of these injury
- 22:51Speaker 1: issues too, that like you can see the pedigree of
- 22:56Speaker 1: the players coming through from college has really, I feel like,
- 23:00Speaker 1: ratchet up a few notches. And I don't know if
- 23:03Speaker 1: it's just because like the past few draft classes have
- 23:06Speaker 1: been pretty solid or what. But it does feel like
- 23:10Speaker 1: the NIL money that's flowing through in Cuba and going
- 23:13Speaker 1: into college baseball is attracting more guys to go that route.
- 23:17Speaker 1: And also because there's so much money in it, like
- 23:20Speaker 1: these colleges aren't such a highly competitive environment that like
- 23:25Speaker 1: I would guarantee that Wake Force's baseball, like OPS department,
- 23:30Speaker 1: quote unquote, is like sharper than what the White Sox
- 23:33Speaker 1: are working with half the time, You know what I mean?
- 23:36Speaker 2: Yeah, it's I was I'm going to take a divergence
- 23:39Speaker 2: here and I won't name drop anybody, but I was
- 23:41Speaker 2: sitting in a discussion with a Division I athletic director
- 23:45Speaker 2: just a few days ago. Don't ask questions why that happened,
- 23:50Speaker 2: long story, but we were talking about the NIL and
- 23:54Speaker 2: the actual perception of how the world's changed and the
- 24:00Speaker 2: are now truly assets. They're like actual assets to the
- 24:04Speaker 2: universities because of what they can bring in and they
- 24:07Speaker 2: have to protect that in so many ways, and so
- 24:11Speaker 2: they are just being walked through. They are being given
- 24:14Speaker 2: every tool available to be successful. So I think you
- 24:17Speaker 2: have a point there that like they are getting that treatment.
- 24:21Speaker 2: And then I also think when they get to you know,
- 24:23Speaker 2: the professional ranks. Teams recognize that, and they recognize the
- 24:28Speaker 2: fragility of pitching. And so if you are showing those
- 24:31Speaker 2: results in the minors and you're showing you can do it,
- 24:34Speaker 2: I'm going to capitalize now. I'm going to capitalize now.
- 24:36Speaker 2: I'm not going to try to get you to perfection
- 24:39Speaker 2: and then stretch out your career because it's it's unpredictable.
- 24:44Speaker 2: The arms don't hold up necessarily the way they always have.
- 24:46Speaker 2: And so if I know you're healthy and I know
- 24:48Speaker 2: you're striking guys out and getting outs, I need to
- 24:52Speaker 2: use that. And so teams have been a lot more
- 24:54Speaker 2: aggressive in promoting promoting pitchers.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Look at that segue, let's talk about Didier Fuentes. Who
- 25:03Speaker 1: I mean this guy. Until you had talked about him
- 25:06Speaker 1: in our L Least preview pod back when we were
- 25:09Speaker 1: doing all of our preseason work, he wasn't necessarily on
- 25:12Speaker 1: my radar, But once you started getting into him, I
- 25:15Speaker 1: had fallen in love. And he turned twenty years old
- 25:20Speaker 1: three days later. He made his debut and it was okay,
- 25:23Speaker 1: like it was a pretty solid debut. Really got lit
- 25:26Speaker 1: up tonight at the Mets. But I don't know if
- 25:28Speaker 1: I would have been using twenty year old Didier Fuentes
- 25:31Speaker 1: against the New York Mets tonight. I think he lines
- 25:35Speaker 1: up for a two start next week. This stuff is nasty.
- 25:38Speaker 1: This is another nasty fastball, another great slider. The curveball
- 25:43Speaker 1: is got great shape. It's gonna take, I think a
- 25:46Speaker 1: little bit of work to harness it, because especially in
- 25:48Speaker 1: that first start when it was at Miami, he was
- 25:51Speaker 1: cruising until he hung one of the curves to Augustin Ramirez,
- 25:56Speaker 1: who then parked it right into left field. So that's
- 25:59Speaker 1: gonna be probably like the biggest hurdle that I think
- 26:01Speaker 1: Flints has got to get over. On top of just
- 26:04Speaker 1: being so young. As you know, he's got a really
- 26:07Speaker 1: great chance to stick in this Atlanta rotation with Chris
- 26:10Speaker 1: sail Down, I had him as a pickup for enna
- 26:13Speaker 1: only and fifteen teamers this weekend. I think I'm still there.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Even with this performance at the Mets, I wouldn't have
- 26:20Speaker 1: started him there. I would actually add him in twelve
- 26:23Speaker 1: teamers two for this to start, just because you can
- 26:26Speaker 1: see it. The stuff plus is a one to seventeen
- 26:29Speaker 1: on the fastball, one oh seven on the slider, a
- 26:31Speaker 1: wanton on the curveball, and that was in his debut.
- 26:34Speaker 1: This is a great pitching organization, and I think he's
- 26:37Speaker 1: got at least until the All Star break to figure
- 26:40Speaker 1: out if he can stick in the rotation. What do
- 26:42Speaker 1: you think fwintest can do for the rest of twenty
- 26:45Speaker 1: twenty five.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you're on pace with with your assessment there.
- 26:51Speaker 2: The comp I'm gonna use, and not necessarily from a
- 26:54Speaker 2: pure pitch ability perspective, but just from a nastiness and
- 26:59Speaker 2: trying to figure things out perspective. As Kumar Rocker as
- 27:02Speaker 2: he came up last year, like his stuff was nasty,
- 27:06Speaker 2: I don't know that he always knew where it was going.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Like he wasn't necessarily pitching, he was more throwing. I
- 27:10Speaker 2: think that's kind of where we were with Fintos at
- 27:12Speaker 2: this point, is that he is nasty. He's gotten by
- 27:14Speaker 2: by that nasty stuff, and so now when he's hitting
- 27:17Speaker 2: the majors, like he's hit mature hitters that like they
- 27:21Speaker 2: can lay off of that and wait for their pitch,
- 27:23Speaker 2: and so he's gonna have to adjust to that, and
- 27:26Speaker 2: I think there's gonna be a longer adjustment period. But
- 27:28Speaker 2: to your point, this is an organization that knows what
- 27:30Speaker 2: they're doing, and like I I look at this a
- 27:34Speaker 2: little bit what they had done with a shaver waldrope
- 27:39Speaker 2: like a few guys where they gave him like a
- 27:42Speaker 2: cup of tea, So they kind of figured out, can
- 27:45Speaker 2: I stick send him back down. He's gonna work on
- 27:48Speaker 2: those things, the pitch ability, and then come back even better. Like,
- 27:51Speaker 2: I think there's a very bright future for for wind As.
- 27:53Speaker 2: I'm not necessarily jumping over to grab him in all
- 27:57Speaker 2: my leagues right now, but if i'm if I'm tight
- 28:01Speaker 2: on pitching, I think there's a lot worse choices than
- 28:04Speaker 2: for Windas. So I long term really really like him.
- 28:07Speaker 2: Short term, I think you kind of a spot streamer
- 28:12Speaker 2: at this point.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that's that's all fair, and especially,
- 28:16Speaker 1: I mean, Dynasty, keep your situations, big big ad.
- 28:19Speaker 2: So yes, absolutely, you know that's you have to love
- 28:23Speaker 2: anybody come up with the Atlanta rotation with nasty stuff
- 28:27Speaker 2: being this young and having this kind of control, like yeah, Dynasty,
- 28:31Speaker 2: please please go pick him up.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Yeah exactly. Okay, Well let's move to some demotions that
- 28:37Speaker 1: we had, because it's also starting to get to a
- 28:39Speaker 1: point where, like you know, some of these players you're
- 28:42Speaker 1: getting into the heat of the summer. They just need
- 28:45Speaker 1: time to reset and rethink and just not try to
- 28:49Speaker 1: drag themselves through the weariness of like where we're at
- 28:52Speaker 1: halfway through the season. So first one we have is
- 28:54Speaker 1: Christian Campbell and Boston being sent down to Triple A wooster.
- 28:58Speaker 1: It was tough for Campbell overall. Where I mean, I
- 29:05Speaker 1: remember back to when he was first promoted. We were
- 29:07Speaker 1: a little surprised, just because it was a difficult spring
- 29:10Speaker 1: for him. And when it was all said and done,
- 29:13Speaker 1: is at a two twenty three three nineteen three forty
- 29:16Speaker 1: five slash line. That's an eighty six WRC plus for
- 29:20Speaker 1: his major league work so far. The biggest issue though,
- 29:24Speaker 1: he is a butcher with the glove. I don't know
- 29:26Speaker 1: if I necessarily gave credit to how poor he was,
- 29:30Speaker 1: just because when he was coming through you hear about
- 29:33Speaker 1: somebody being a utility man like Christian Campbell, and you
- 29:35Speaker 1: think that he can stick somewhere, especially second base. But
- 29:39Speaker 1: he was negative eight OAA on Baseball Savant, which is
- 29:44Speaker 1: pretty rough, and so they are sending him back to
- 29:47Speaker 1: Triple A to work at first base a little bit
- 29:49Speaker 1: hasn't played any first base down there yet, but I
- 29:51Speaker 1: think he's getting drills so that Campbell can be prepared
- 29:54Speaker 1: to possibly come up and take over the cold corner
- 29:58Speaker 1: in Tristan Cosas's instead. What are you doing in situations
- 30:03Speaker 1: where you've got Campbell? Are you stashing him on your
- 30:06Speaker 1: bench in the shallowest of leagues or is there a
- 30:09Speaker 1: league level where you feel comfortable cutting bait on Campbell
- 30:12Speaker 1: and kind of chalking this year up to rookie growing pains.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Yeah, this was a very interesting one to me because
- 30:22Speaker 2: going into the season I was kind of low on
- 30:25Speaker 2: Campbell when he was getting the well the contract, like
- 30:28Speaker 2: getting the start, getting the contract, all that stuff and
- 30:31Speaker 2: like and then he like was off this brilliant start, Like, oh,
- 30:33Speaker 2: must have been wrong. I must not have read this one.
- 30:36Speaker 2: And I'm like, I just thought he was too young,
- 30:39Speaker 2: too mature. I didn't see that he really had put
- 30:42Speaker 2: things all together kind of at that minor league level
- 30:45Speaker 2: to like fully just take off. And it was mainly
- 30:50Speaker 2: in kind of that power area. He just he seemed
- 30:55Speaker 2: a little overmatched and hadn't had that enough of bats
- 30:58Speaker 2: really at the at the trip to like, yeah, let's
- 31:01Speaker 2: do this and he has been so bad, like you
- 31:05Speaker 2: was saying, he's bad with the glove. If you look
- 31:07Speaker 2: at him since May first, he's he's got twenty hits
- 31:13Speaker 2: and one hundred and forty played appearances. That's a one
- 31:16Speaker 2: fifty nine average. It's a twenty nine WRC plus Like
- 31:21Speaker 2: that's that's impressive. Like to be able to play that
- 31:26Speaker 2: much games and not be sent down is something. And
- 31:32Speaker 2: I think he's got a lot of work to do
- 31:35Speaker 2: before they bring him back up. And so I think
- 31:39Speaker 2: he's still got enough hype because his season line is
- 31:42Speaker 2: not as bad because he was so hot for a
- 31:45Speaker 2: few weeks, but he's just looked absolutely lost, striking out
- 31:50Speaker 2: almost thirty percent of the time since May first, Like
- 31:53Speaker 2: he's he's got some struggles to work through. I think
- 31:55Speaker 2: long term, definitely a good player, definitely valuable. I think
- 31:58Speaker 2: he comes into his own. I think there's definitely the
- 32:01Speaker 2: potential there. But I think this minor league stay for
- 32:05Speaker 2: him is longer than people expect. And I'm looking if
- 32:10Speaker 2: I am in a single season league and I'm looking
- 32:13Speaker 2: to sell, I'm looking to sell him even though the
- 32:16Speaker 2: value is down.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, No, I think that's fair because I think
- 32:19Speaker 1: I'm there too, where you just look at the savant page.
- 32:22Speaker 1: It's not yelling at you. And this is a guy
- 32:25Speaker 1: who flew through the minor leagues, so you wouldn't be
- 32:28Speaker 1: surprised if he just needs a tick more seasoning. And
- 32:32Speaker 1: the Red Sox haven't locked up to that long term contract,
- 32:34Speaker 1: they have a lot of reason to make sure that
- 32:37Speaker 1: he reaches that peak. Okay, let's move on to the
- 32:40Speaker 1: next emotion. It is in New York in Queens. As
- 32:44Speaker 1: the Mets have demoted Francisco Alvarez sent him down to
- 32:49Speaker 1: Triple A. And it's been a mixed bag here for Alvarez.
- 32:53Speaker 1: If you recall at the beginning of the season, he
- 32:55Speaker 1: missed a chunk of time because he went down with
- 32:57Speaker 1: a handmaid injury during spring training. I remember when that happened,
- 33:01Speaker 1: You and I were both like out And this is
- 33:03Speaker 1: exactly kind of why, because it just takes time for
- 33:07Speaker 1: handmate injuries to round back into form. Also another reason
- 33:11Speaker 1: to maybe be worried about Corby and Carroll at least
- 33:14Speaker 1: for the rest of twenty twenty five. And you can
- 33:17Speaker 1: see it just in the discrepancy between his like power output,
- 33:23Speaker 1: but then like the underlying stats still being pretty solid,
- 33:27Speaker 1: Like he's got a solid fifty percent hard hit rate,
- 33:30Speaker 1: He's hit the hardest ball that he has all year.
- 33:32Speaker 1: He's got a solid barrel rate that lines up with
- 33:34Speaker 1: his career career figures, and the strikeouts haven't been out
- 33:40Speaker 1: of bounds for Alvarez this year. The walk rates right
- 33:43Speaker 1: whar it has always been. But it just screams out
- 33:46Speaker 1: that you've got the ISO that's below one hundred. And
- 33:50Speaker 1: I think it's because he just doesn't have the strength
- 33:53Speaker 1: to kate to like keep the bat moving through contact
- 33:58Speaker 1: with the ball because of the la back of just
- 34:01Speaker 1: that wrist strength. So that's very prescriptive just from some
- 34:06Speaker 1: armchair quarterbacking. What do you think, is that like a
- 34:09Speaker 1: good reason why you stick away from these risk risk
- 34:12Speaker 1: injury guys or is there something else in Alvareze's profile
- 34:16Speaker 1: that might be concerning to you.
- 34:18Speaker 2: No, I think you're right. It just takes that time.
- 34:20Speaker 2: I mean, frankly, I was. I was very surprised to
- 34:23Speaker 2: see him sit down. Like since June first, he's hitting
- 34:26Speaker 2: two thirty eight, had two homers, I mean WRC plus
- 34:30Speaker 2: one o two, Like he's just average right now, and
- 34:33Speaker 2: so it just seemed odd, and I knew that Louis
- 34:36Speaker 2: Torrens was actually played can maybe above his capability, and
- 34:39Speaker 2: they're like, yeah, let's let's give that a shot. But
- 34:41Speaker 2: I was I was very surprised to see him sent down,
- 34:44Speaker 2: Like I didn't feel like he was struggling that that
- 34:47Speaker 2: mightily at the plate. I mean, he just he homeward
- 34:51Speaker 2: the day before I sent him down, like he was
- 34:53Speaker 2: doing decent even though he wasn't maybe doing Francisco Alvarez
- 34:57Speaker 2: a high, high level expectation. So yeah, I think it
- 35:01Speaker 2: is that kind of warning of those injuries. It's not
- 35:05Speaker 2: every time, but I'd say it feels like the majority
- 35:08Speaker 2: of the time injuries to the hand, the wrist, they
- 35:12Speaker 2: you come back, but you're not at the same level
- 35:16Speaker 2: as if you tweak a hamstring. You get healed there
- 35:21Speaker 2: when you come back, the kinetic chain, the hands, all
- 35:25Speaker 2: those things are still strong, they're still there, but there's
- 35:28Speaker 2: something about holding onto that wooden bat with a weak
- 35:31Speaker 2: hand or risk where you have to have a quick,
- 35:34Speaker 2: strong risk going through the zone that apparently is harder
- 35:38Speaker 2: to hit. When those things hurt, I guess it's it's
- 35:42Speaker 2: not a shock. Who'd have thunk that? So I'm perplexed here.
- 35:48Speaker 2: I'm not out on Alvarez completely is a long term asset,
- 35:52Speaker 2: but it's it's hard to and invest for the rest
- 35:55Speaker 2: of the year unless you're like a two catcher league
- 35:58Speaker 2: and you've lost a number of guys, like you've lost
- 36:02Speaker 2: Adlie and Francisco alf As. The last week here, Pereira,
- 36:06Speaker 2: we were just talking about how deep the pool is,
- 36:10Speaker 2: and now we've just lost three arguably two catcher league starters,
- 36:14Speaker 2: so we'll see.
- 36:16Speaker 1: Yeah, it ended up pretty quick. So that's the way
- 36:19Speaker 1: catchers go. So it should be an interesting weekend for
- 36:22Speaker 1: the waiver wires as I peruse what's available back there
- 36:25Speaker 1: on the catcher pool, because it might actually not be
- 36:29Speaker 1: much because people are pretty good about like really making
- 36:32Speaker 1: sure that they're owned at the proper levels because people
- 36:35Speaker 1: get desperate pretty quick for for backstops.
- 36:38Speaker 2: Yeah, trust me, I lost Alva ros in the league
- 36:43Speaker 2: and somebody snatched up Gary Sancho, like, oh geez, that
- 36:49Speaker 2: was like the only option. I'm like, I'm like, I
- 36:50Speaker 2: don't need to pay for this because nobody wants gear.
- 36:52Speaker 2: Somebody else took on my own. Geez, Well, now what
- 36:55Speaker 2: am I gonna do?
- 36:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean let me see, let's we'll do this.
- 36:59Speaker 1: We'll do this live where I'm gonna look and see
- 37:01Speaker 1: what we've got for possibilities, especially coming up into this
- 37:06Speaker 1: weekends waiver wires, Let's see we should I don't like
- 37:12Speaker 1: Carlson Vice, I mean, Ryan Jeffers is probably still out
- 37:14Speaker 1: there in a lot of places, so that's a good
- 37:17Speaker 1: one to consider. For some reason. There's still shares of
- 37:22Speaker 1: like Alejandro Kirk floating around, but maybe not anymore us
- 37:26Speaker 1: up to like past eighty percent. Yeah, it's thin. There
- 37:31Speaker 1: might just be Ryan Jeffers or die because at that
- 37:34Speaker 1: point you're starting to look at like Jonah Hihan, Gary
- 37:37Speaker 1: Sanchez and the likes. So good luck out there if
- 37:40Speaker 1: you've lost one of these catchers, because all the good
- 37:43Speaker 1: ones have been hoovered up. Okay, next emotion we have
- 37:47Speaker 1: is Ben Brown starting pitcher question mark for the Chicago
- 37:53Speaker 1: Cubs being sent down to Iowa as the e or
- 37:57Speaker 1: A just kind of got untenable. The underlying numbers have
- 38:00Speaker 1: been great, so ERA is at six thirteen right now
- 38:03Speaker 1: through seventy nine and a third, but the underlying numbers
- 38:06Speaker 1: had been fantastic, solid K nine of ten point three.
- 38:12Speaker 1: The walks were under control, hovering around three per nine.
- 38:16Speaker 1: The FIP is just around four. I can tell you
- 38:20Speaker 1: this is one of those where, like people, sometimes you
- 38:24Speaker 1: can get really in love with those underlying numbers, but
- 38:28Speaker 1: sometimes you gotta watch. I've watched enough Cubs games and
- 38:30Speaker 1: enough Ben Brown starts to know that this is the
- 38:34Speaker 1: type of profile. I think that doesn't have command because
- 38:38Speaker 1: when he misses with that fastball, it is a cookie
- 38:41Speaker 1: and people just have been teeing off on it. You
- 38:44Speaker 1: can see it right in the home run rate. It's
- 38:45Speaker 1: a fourteen percent home run rate, one and a half
- 38:48Speaker 1: per nine. That it There's something in his fastball. It
- 38:52Speaker 1: just does not fool major league hitters. And when he
- 38:56Speaker 1: leaves that in the zone, even if it's hurled in
- 38:59Speaker 1: there at the extreme velocities that he's working with, you know, he's, uh,
- 39:03Speaker 1: what was he clocking in at this year? Just around
- 39:05Speaker 1: ninety six ninety five point eight. It just doesn't work
- 39:09Speaker 1: if it doesn't have the right shape. Is there something
- 39:12Speaker 1: else maybe in Ben Brown that you like? Or am
- 39:14Speaker 1: I am I onto something here? No?
- 39:17Speaker 2: I think I think you are like his I think
- 39:20Speaker 2: one of the problems is, you know, in the in
- 39:21Speaker 2: this revolution of like spin rates and movement of like
- 39:28Speaker 2: he doesn't have a significant amount of movement on his pitches.
- 39:33Speaker 2: And so it's we talk about these guys like the
- 39:36Speaker 2: Chase burns your wint as we talked about Kumo Rocker,
- 39:38Speaker 2: like guys with crazy, crazy good stuff that when you
- 39:42Speaker 2: miss with that crazy slider, the guy's not still not
- 39:46Speaker 2: hitting or squaring it up. Brown when he misses, like
- 39:50Speaker 2: that thing's not moving that like that's a beach ball
- 39:53Speaker 2: up there. And I think that's kind of what where
- 39:55Speaker 2: he struggled is like, yeah, controls not so bad. He
- 39:58Speaker 2: does when he's he's he's got when he's putting it
- 40:01Speaker 2: where he wants to, he's getting some of those strikeouts,
- 40:03Speaker 2: but when he misses, it's toast, like it's it's way
- 40:07Speaker 2: too easy. And I think that's really what's holding him
- 40:10Speaker 2: back here, which is the thing to your point, why
- 40:13Speaker 2: he might end up being more of a bullpen arm,
- 40:15Speaker 2: because then you just rely on your absolute best and
- 40:18Speaker 2: you can maybe dial things up a mile or two harder.
- 40:22Speaker 2: And that's really I think where he's struggled at this point. So, yeah,
- 40:29Speaker 2: it's unfortunate for Ben Brown. A lot of hope there,
- 40:32Speaker 2: but it's just not it hasn't come together.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, And I mean even as a reliever, I
- 40:37Speaker 1: don't know. It's such a it's a wonky wonky fastball,
- 40:40Speaker 1: and once you see it live, it reminds me a
- 40:43Speaker 1: little bit of like watching MLB the show too. There's
- 40:45Speaker 1: just some dudes where you just tee him up. And
- 40:48Speaker 1: I'm not the only one. This is a guy who's
- 40:50Speaker 1: got a career eleven and a half percent barrel rate
- 40:52Speaker 1: against him with a fifty percent hard hit rate. It
- 40:55Speaker 1: stands out.
- 40:57Speaker 2: Just for fun, you should go out to his stat
- 40:59Speaker 2: cast and look at his heat map of his four
- 41:03Speaker 2: seamer just to see where he throws it, because it
- 41:06Speaker 2: is middle middle. That is exactly like he's not on
- 41:10Speaker 2: the edges. He is literally just pounding the middle of
- 41:12Speaker 2: the zone. So there's different types of control and this
- 41:16Speaker 2: is not the kind that you really want to use.
- 41:18Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, because like the walk rate looks great, but
- 41:22Speaker 1: if you if the alternative is giving up a tater
- 41:24Speaker 1: he wanted to eat the walk.
- 41:27Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's really generally not advisable.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Okay, well, we're going to stick in the NL Central
- 41:33Speaker 1: for our last bit of news. We've got Heimer Candelario,
- 41:36Speaker 1: who was just outright cut in Cincinnati, was struggling on
- 41:42Speaker 1: his rehab assignment working his way back, and then when
- 41:45Speaker 1: he worked his way back from that higabus assignment, the
- 41:48Speaker 1: red said, well, sorry, we don't really actually need you
- 41:51Speaker 1: cutting him after assigning him to that three year, forty
- 41:54Speaker 1: five million dollar deal last offseason that everyone found perplexing.
- 41:59Speaker 1: Who do you think the biggest beneficiary in Cincinnati is
- 42:02Speaker 1: for this? Because this is gonna be a fascinating team
- 42:05Speaker 1: as the weather heats up and Great American Ballpark just
- 42:09Speaker 1: plays like a bandbox, there's gonna be a lot of
- 42:13Speaker 1: offense coming out of the Cincinnati Reds team. So who
- 42:16Speaker 1: are you targeting that might get a little extra share
- 42:18Speaker 1: of playing time without Candelarrio around?
- 42:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I think, uh, I think that there's guys like Spencer,
- 42:29Speaker 2: Spencer's deer TJ. Friedel, Like, I think those are the
- 42:32Speaker 2: kind of guys that play a little bit all over
- 42:34Speaker 2: the place that are gonna get the biggest benefit. They're
- 42:38Speaker 2: gonna stay in the lineup more. They were always the
- 42:40Speaker 2: kind of guys that like lost out to the guy
- 42:42Speaker 2: that had like a defined, defined position. If if you
- 42:46Speaker 2: want to be simple about it, Christian Karnassis. Strand is
- 42:49Speaker 2: probably the easiest one to call out, but he seems
- 42:53Speaker 2: like he was he was kind of making a spot
- 42:55Speaker 2: for himself, And so I think it's between those three
- 43:00Speaker 2: that really really get the biggest, biggest benefit because they're
- 43:03Speaker 2: not gonna lose at bats for those quote unquote rest
- 43:06Speaker 2: days when it's just like, well, I'm trying to rotate
- 43:07Speaker 2: four guys through like three positions. So you know, I
- 43:11Speaker 2: don't think it's a big loss at the end of
- 43:14Speaker 2: the day. I think it was probably the right move.
- 43:16Speaker 2: To your point, we never really understood this this move
- 43:19Speaker 2: in the first place, for bringing Hondo Lario in to
- 43:22Speaker 2: what is arguably a very very strong lineup. So yeah,
- 43:26Speaker 2: I said, like I said, freedl strands deer. I think
- 43:28Speaker 2: that just gives him a few more bats the rest
- 43:30Speaker 2: of the season and we can we can move on.
- 43:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I do want to throw retigins Is back and
- 43:38Speaker 1: he I mean post type resigns. He whiffs a ton,
- 43:43Speaker 1: but when he lands the bat on the ball, it
- 43:46Speaker 1: goes a long way. His prospects savant page shows that
- 43:50Speaker 1: it's kind of a all or nothing profile and where
- 43:53Speaker 1: he put that striker out rate, you know it's down
- 43:56Speaker 1: to something a little more reasonable at the twenty six
- 43:58Speaker 1: point nine percent at Triple as posted thirty seven point
- 44:01Speaker 1: nine before he came up last year in twenty twenty four,
- 44:05Speaker 1: or I guess that was total in Triple A there.
- 44:08Speaker 1: So it's got me interested. I will say that I'm
- 44:11Speaker 1: gonna be at least watchlessen Hinz and kind of seeing
- 44:14Speaker 1: how much he works his way into that Cincinnati lanout. Okay,
- 44:18Speaker 1: one bit of baseball card news before we take a
- 44:21Speaker 1: little bit of a break and then come back. But
- 44:23Speaker 1: that prospect talk. We've got tops Comb pre orders out there,
- 44:27Speaker 1: so this is twenty twenty five, not a twenty twenty
- 44:29Speaker 1: four product, although there's still one coming out actually on
- 44:34Speaker 1: this Friday as we speak. Tops Dynasty twenty twenty four
- 44:37Speaker 1: is coming out, so that will be hitting shelves finally,
- 44:40Speaker 1: but Tops Chrome is scheduled for July twenty third. We've
- 44:45Speaker 1: got Roki Sasaki on the twenty twenty five product. There's
- 44:48Speaker 1: still pre orders available on tops dot com. This thing
- 44:51Speaker 1: dropped two days ago on the twenty third, and not
- 44:55Speaker 1: exactly a ringing endorsement. If there's still hobby boxes in
- 44:59Speaker 1: value Box is available on Tops dot com. So the
- 45:04Speaker 1: jumbos are gone, Drew, Were you one of the ones
- 45:07Speaker 1: that hoovered up one of those jumpos or is this
- 45:09Speaker 1: a set that you're a little bit wary of.
- 45:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I did not grab one of those jumbos. Price
- 45:16Speaker 2: actually wasn't as bad as I expected it to be.
- 45:19Speaker 2: But I Chrome has become a very very difficult set
- 45:25Speaker 2: because of the print run and the I'm gonna call
- 45:29Speaker 2: it the auto run. You have so many autos in
- 45:33Speaker 2: there that like it is like finding the diamond in
- 45:35Speaker 2: the rough. Like I'm like, I'm you're guaranteed three with
- 45:37Speaker 2: the jumbo, but they might be three middle relievers you've
- 45:40Speaker 2: never heard of. Like that's that's the challenge that you're
- 45:43Speaker 2: running into. So I didn't grab any I hope to
- 45:46Speaker 2: maybe grab a value box when I see it in person,
- 45:48Speaker 2: maybe at more of a hurry up and buy type
- 45:52Speaker 2: of situation when I passed one in the store, But
- 45:55Speaker 2: avoiding for now until we see a little bit more
- 45:59Speaker 2: on the wild probably focusing on some singles and card
- 46:02Speaker 2: shows at this point.
- 46:03Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that's probably the way to go
- 46:06Speaker 1: with this set. It is going to be very highly printed,
- 46:09Speaker 1: and I mean we will have the MVP buybacks again,
- 46:12Speaker 1: so it might actually be a little more intriguing this
- 46:15Speaker 1: year on the AL side between cal Raley and Aaron Judge,
- 46:17Speaker 1: and on the NL side it's probably still Otani leader
- 46:21Speaker 1: in the clubhouse. But I guess we'll see how that
- 46:24Speaker 1: shapes up over the next month or two. We will
- 46:27Speaker 1: get into a bigger overviewer that closer to the release
- 46:31Speaker 1: date of July twenty third. But if you are looking
- 46:33Speaker 1: to pre order, I've got the link in the show notes.
- 46:35Speaker 1: Check it out there. So with that, we're going to
- 46:37Speaker 1: take a short break. We will be back to talk
- 46:40Speaker 1: about prospects. All right, Welcome back everybody. So I don't
- 47:03Speaker 1: know if I've got a fancy schmancy topic name for
- 47:08Speaker 1: what we're about to discuss in terms of I'm just
- 47:10Speaker 1: calling it prospects. We love man that like we did
- 47:13Speaker 1: this around this time last year, where we just swept
- 47:16Speaker 1: through the league and each picked one prospect per division
- 47:20Speaker 1: that has really caught our eye and either we're starting
- 47:23Speaker 1: to move them from the watch list to our dynasty
- 47:27Speaker 1: keeper teams or really just keeping an eye on them.
- 47:30Speaker 1: Especially hello, all autnew league listeners of ours that are
- 47:37Speaker 1: in here, because a lot of these guys we've been
- 47:39Speaker 1: auctioning in our autonew League back and forth. If you're
- 47:42Speaker 1: not familiar with what Autnew is, it is through fangrafts
- 47:48Speaker 1: dot com. It's a forty man roster dynasty league with
- 47:51Speaker 1: Caps Fantastic. You should check it out. That what we're
- 47:57Speaker 1: doing with these players is a little bit of a mix,
- 47:59Speaker 1: I think too, because you selected some that I think
- 48:02Speaker 1: are closer to the majors. I've selected some that might
- 48:05Speaker 1: be more of like twenty twenty six plays. But you know,
- 48:08Speaker 1: an arm can catch fire, as we've seen with Didier
- 48:10Speaker 1: Fuentes just this past week. So with that intro, let's
- 48:15Speaker 1: just start diving into it and talking prospects. Here. We're
- 48:17Speaker 1: gonna start with the Al East because that's just the
- 48:20Speaker 1: way that it will be. Lists always work is somehow
- 48:22Speaker 1: the Ale East is number one. Who is your prospect
- 48:25Speaker 1: picked in the Al East? Yeah?
- 48:28Speaker 2: In the Ale East, I am going with good old
- 48:32Speaker 2: Dylan Beavers from the Baltimore Orioles. Dylan is a very,
- 48:38Speaker 2: very exciting prospect in my mind. I don't love prospects
- 48:42Speaker 2: necessarily from the Orioles because they're like the Rockies of
- 48:46Speaker 2: the al in a way. With how they treat their
- 48:48Speaker 2: prospects so that like yeah, like and I feel bad
- 48:51Speaker 2: saying that like that, that's like diet Rockies, Like it's
- 48:54Speaker 2: it's not that bad. But he's almost twenty four now,
- 48:58Speaker 2: and he's really been doing a great job in his
- 49:01Speaker 2: second go of Triple A. He only got a few
- 49:04Speaker 2: games there to finish out last year. So far this
- 49:07Speaker 2: season fifty seven games, he said seven homers, stole in
- 49:09Speaker 2: seventeen bases, hitting three twelve And what I what I
- 49:14Speaker 2: really am excited about is he has continued to make
- 49:17Speaker 2: improvements of his approach at the plate. This is a
- 49:20Speaker 2: guy that he was kind of a mid to twenties
- 49:25Speaker 2: strikeout kind of guy and then has been lower and
- 49:28Speaker 2: lower and lower, and now he's his rackout rates under nineteen,
- 49:31Speaker 2: his walk rates thirteen to five. Like he's he's really
- 49:35Speaker 2: become a more complete hitter. Game on base, you know,
- 49:38Speaker 2: four or three clip So he just looks really, really solid.
- 49:43Speaker 2: He's also a really really good defender, Like he can
- 49:46Speaker 2: play pretty much all the outfield positions, and if you
- 49:50Speaker 2: look at kind of his prospect stat cast kind of metrics,
- 49:56Speaker 2: like he is right across the board. He barrels things up,
- 50:00Speaker 2: his exit velocities kind of the ninety ninety one his
- 50:05Speaker 2: you know expected batan everage two seventy five. Like, he
- 50:08Speaker 2: is just a very solid all around player, and I
- 50:11Speaker 2: think he's the kind of guy that would thrive at
- 50:14Speaker 2: the top of the lineup for the Orioles because he'd
- 50:17Speaker 2: get on base, He's gonna be able to, you know,
- 50:19Speaker 2: steal a few few bags, and I think wuld be
- 50:22Speaker 2: kind of lightning the model for the Orioles and fantasy teams.
- 50:25Speaker 2: And so I think he's really developed into a very
- 50:28Speaker 2: very strong prospect and I have very little concern about
- 50:31Speaker 2: him once he gets to the majors, Like there's been
- 50:34Speaker 2: concerns of can he handle the high heat of the majors,
- 50:36Speaker 2: But like, I think he's now proven himself, so he
- 50:40Speaker 2: doesn't get talked about nearly as much as the Kobe
- 50:42Speaker 2: Mayo's of the world, and you know, all the big
- 50:45Speaker 2: prospects that have made it up. And I think he's
- 50:48Speaker 2: just as good, if not better than some of those guys.
- 50:51Speaker 2: So give me the shares of Dylan Beavers. I'm excited.
- 50:54Speaker 2: Whether it's from a fantasy perspective a card perspective, I
- 50:56Speaker 2: don't care which we're talking about in this segment, I
- 50:58Speaker 2: am buying Dylan Beaver's.
- 51:00Speaker 1: Yeah. I think that's actually a good point too, is
- 51:02Speaker 1: that a lot of these names you could double them
- 51:05Speaker 1: as card buying because Beavers, I think, is going to
- 51:10Speaker 1: debut here around the trade deadline. That they've got both
- 51:13Speaker 1: Cedric Mullins and Dylan Carlson on the big league roster
- 51:16Speaker 1: right now in Baltimore, given where they're going for the
- 51:20Speaker 1: rest of the season, they're gonna be sellers at the
- 51:24Speaker 1: deadline here in about a month, and so I think
- 51:26Speaker 1: the Orioles will ship both those guys out of town
- 51:28Speaker 1: because they're great fourth outfielders, and Mullens could, I mean
- 51:32Speaker 1: obviously be a starter, but Dylan Carlson's a fantastic I
- 51:36Speaker 1: think fourth outfielder, switch hitter, great defender. That's exactly what
- 51:41Speaker 1: playoff teams need. And that opens the avenue for Dylan
- 51:44Speaker 1: Beavers to debut. He's also Rule five eligible in December,
- 51:48Speaker 1: so the Orioles have to stick him on the forty
- 51:51Speaker 1: man at some point anyway this offseason. Why not give
- 51:54Speaker 1: him some shine at the big leagues before you really
- 51:58Speaker 1: decide what you're going to do in the long run.
- 52:00Speaker 1: So you're also preaching the choir. This was my Ale
- 52:04Speaker 1: East pick when we did the Oils at the beginning
- 52:07Speaker 1: of the season. I've long been on on Beavers. It's
- 52:09Speaker 1: just a well rounded profile.
- 52:11Speaker 2: I love all right, Well, I went Triple A. I
- 52:14Speaker 2: went close to the majors. Did you stay close to
- 52:16Speaker 2: the majors or you go far away?
- 52:18Speaker 1: This one's actually going to be my closest one, but
- 52:21Speaker 1: it's kind of he's flying up out nowhere. It's Cam
- 52:24Speaker 1: Schlittler from the New York Yankees in Triple A. Wilkspari
- 52:28Speaker 1: right now. Also just really fun to say Schlitler as
- 52:31Speaker 1: much as you can. And this guy has flown through
- 52:35Speaker 1: the system this year. It's been a K nine that
- 52:39Speaker 1: has been above eleven and a half for the full season,
- 52:44Speaker 1: but it was ten point nine at Double A for
- 52:47Speaker 1: fifty three innings before getting into Triple A. This past
- 52:52Speaker 1: three starts he's been at fourteen K nine there with
- 52:55Speaker 1: a two thirty five RA. The walks look a little
- 53:00Speaker 1: bit heavy they're in TRILEA, but his last start one walk,
- 53:06Speaker 1: nine strikeouts against the Louisville Bats in Louisville, which I
- 53:09Speaker 1: think is a pretty hot park. It kind of plays
- 53:11Speaker 1: similar to the Reds. This dude's right on the precipice
- 53:15Speaker 1: of making the rotation in New York, and I think
- 53:18Speaker 1: he would have been up for that spot that got
- 53:21Speaker 1: freed up when Ryan Yarborough hit the aisle. But he's
- 53:24Speaker 1: not on the forty man yet. He doesn't need to
- 53:26Speaker 1: go on the forty man until again December. Him and
- 53:31Speaker 1: Beaver's came through in the same draft in twenty twenty two,
- 53:34Speaker 1: but Schlitler was taken in the seventh round out of Northeastern.
- 53:37Speaker 1: Is just kind of a testament to what the Yankees
- 53:41Speaker 1: do with their pitching development that it's a fantastic profile.
- 53:46Speaker 1: He's a six to six, two twenty five frame. I'm
- 53:51Speaker 1: just surprised that he's not getting kind of hoovered up
- 53:54Speaker 1: and hyped up more because you just look at everything
- 53:57Speaker 1: under the hood, you look at the prospects of Vanna Page.
- 54:01Speaker 1: It's just a really talented arm man. I think he's
- 54:04Speaker 1: about to be up in the Bronx here, probably right
- 54:07Speaker 1: after the All Star break, honestly, that like they're going
- 54:10Speaker 1: to kick it into high gear, I think, and really
- 54:12Speaker 1: just kind of put the paddles to the metal to
- 54:14Speaker 1: try to put the Rays behind them in the Al East.
- 54:16Speaker 1: Schlitzler can do that for the Yankees.
- 54:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he's he's a really interesting prospect. He's
- 54:21Speaker 2: a he's a big, big boy. He throws downhill and
- 54:25Speaker 2: he relies on a strong, strong fastball and you know
- 54:31Speaker 2: that in a in a slider. He's he's kind of
- 54:33Speaker 2: a mid to upper nineties guy. All his pitches are
- 54:37Speaker 2: playing playing up. The only only little thing I have
- 54:40Speaker 2: against him is, you know he his X A lot
- 54:44Speaker 2: of he gets barreled up at times.
- 54:48Speaker 1: Is this Ben Brown?
- 54:50Speaker 2: Yeah, And so I'm looking at that a little bit.
- 54:53Speaker 2: It's like, like can he with all like does he
- 54:56Speaker 2: have the control enough to keep out of trouble with
- 55:01Speaker 2: the strikeouts, with missing the bats and things like that,
- 55:04Speaker 2: keeping the ball on the ground, which is all those
- 55:05Speaker 2: things that can kind of compensate for allowing card contact.
- 55:08Speaker 2: When you have the hard contact is on the ground,
- 55:10Speaker 2: it's actually double place. Like it's not too bad at
- 55:13Speaker 2: a thing. So probably to me long term, maybe back
- 55:16Speaker 2: into the rotation, like you know, maybe a risk of
- 55:19Speaker 2: a bullpen. But like, I think you're right, Like he's
- 55:21Speaker 2: he's very interesting, and I think he gets a shot
- 55:24Speaker 2: very soon and it's just a matter of does this
- 55:27Speaker 2: stuff play enough? Does he is the control real That's
- 55:32Speaker 2: that's the big thing here. But there's there's a lot
- 55:35Speaker 2: to like of Cam Schlitter here, And to your point,
- 55:38Speaker 2: I think might be the best name on the list.
- 55:40Speaker 1: Yes, Yeah, it's a it's a great a name. Okay,
- 55:43Speaker 1: let's move on to the AL Central. So who is
- 55:45Speaker 1: your first pick here for the al Central? Yeah?
- 55:50Speaker 2: So you can now use everything I just said against
- 55:53Speaker 2: Cam Schlitter about the guy I'm gonna call out here
- 55:56Speaker 2: because I'm gonna go with another guy. Uh just called
- 55:59Speaker 2: up to trip A for the Chicago White Socks. No, Schultz.
- 56:04Speaker 2: Schultz is probably in my mind one of the if
- 56:06Speaker 2: not the most electric arms in in the miners. Big lefty.
- 56:12Speaker 2: When we say we talked about Schlider being a big guy,
- 56:14Speaker 2: this is six' ten guy coming down, downhill really bringing,
- 56:19Speaker 2: it you, know mid mid, nineties mid to upper nineties
- 56:23Speaker 2: is what he can actually. Bring he struggled actually a
- 56:28Speaker 2: little bit to start the season In DOUBLE a from
- 56:30Speaker 2: a control, perspective AND i think that's actually maybe opened
- 56:34Speaker 2: up a little bit of like a buying question opportunity
- 56:37Speaker 2: On schultz because he's never had control, Issues Like i'm
- 56:41Speaker 2: more worried about the guy that had control issues and
- 56:43Speaker 2: all of a sudden like figured out the Control like
- 56:45Speaker 2: that generally doesn't stick and it goes. BACK i think
- 56:48Speaker 2: the opposite is true as. Well a guy that's always
- 56:49Speaker 2: had control goes through a rough patch and then kind
- 56:53Speaker 2: of figures things back. Out and SO i think he,
- 56:56Speaker 2: has LIKE i, said some of the nastiest stuff of the.
- 56:57Speaker 2: MINERS i think it's it's not too long before we See.
- 57:01Speaker 2: SCHULTZ i think probably An august call, up Is August
- 57:05Speaker 2: september call ups to get his feet wet is what you.
- 57:08Speaker 2: See The White socks aren't don't need him right now
- 57:10Speaker 2: because they're not going, anywhere but absolutely does a fantastic,
- 57:16Speaker 2: job you, know, pounding pounding the, zone and, UH i
- 57:21Speaker 2: think is going to be a top of the rotation
- 57:24Speaker 2: guy for for years to. Come so buy an. Opportunity
- 57:27Speaker 2: if if folks have gone down On, schultz absolutely should
- 57:30Speaker 2: should pick him.
- 57:30Speaker 1: Up, YEAH i, mean, ACTUALLY i think there's a really
- 57:34Speaker 1: good chance That schultz they just bring him up and
- 57:37Speaker 1: let him develop at the big league level here down
- 57:40Speaker 1: the stretch that this is another team in The White
- 57:43Speaker 1: sox where you, know they're probably gonna Move, savali probably
- 57:46Speaker 1: gonna Move houser free up a few forty man, spots
- 57:49Speaker 1: and they might just Bring schultz right up and kind
- 57:53Speaker 1: of try to electrify the fan base a little, bit
- 57:56Speaker 1: and on top of, it like why not just kind
- 57:59Speaker 1: of let him try to work through it at the
- 58:00Speaker 1: big leagues when this team's not going anywhere right? Now
- 58:04Speaker 1: you know they've done this before in terms of LIKE i,
- 58:07Speaker 1: mean right, now you're looking At Grant taylor is up
- 58:10Speaker 1: and closing for. Them you look at how they Push Ga,
- 58:13Speaker 1: crochet how they Push Chris. Sale The White socks just
- 58:17Speaker 1: kind of love moving these guys up quickly on top
- 58:19Speaker 1: of it. Too expect to hear FOR. Noa, schultz he's
- 58:23Speaker 1: from The West, suburbs he's From, Oswego so that's gonna
- 58:27Speaker 1: just be another thing in his favor as The White
- 58:29Speaker 1: sox love local guys to try to get their families
- 58:32Speaker 1: come in and sell some tickets because it's getting to
- 58:36Speaker 1: be desperate times on The South. Side getting those tickets
- 58:38Speaker 1: and getting those, players those people in the.
- 58:40Speaker 2: Door, hey there's baseball's business, Too so they give a fair.
- 58:46Speaker 1: Point, okay, well my Al central pick another big left
- 58:52Speaker 1: handed pitcher, here AND i like this name especially for
- 58:56Speaker 1: the other REASON i think this is a good time
- 58:57Speaker 1: to have this discussion is that we're we're about to
- 59:00Speaker 1: get a new round of top one hundred prospects, lists
- 59:03Speaker 1: most likely kind of around The All star, break just
- 59:06Speaker 1: to kind of fill in that gap of content that
- 59:09Speaker 1: sites will have on top of like a lot of
- 59:12Speaker 1: the top prospects between you, Know Chase, Spurns Jack caglione
- 59:16Speaker 1: are up and promoted off of those. Lists there's lots
- 59:19Speaker 1: of open, spots lots of new performances to update people on.
- 59:22Speaker 1: Too this is a guy WHO i think is gonna
- 59:25Speaker 1: just shoot up a bunch of. Prospectlets that Is Dissan
- 59:28Speaker 1: hill from The Minnesota. Twins down an a ball right
- 59:31Speaker 1: now and as a nineteen year, old was drafted last
- 59:34Speaker 1: year with the in THE coump round as a sixty ninth,
- 59:38Speaker 1: pick nice two million dollars signing, bonus so he was
- 59:43Speaker 1: a prep arm that they just made sure that they
- 59:46Speaker 1: overpaid overslot For hill to bring him home because The
- 59:50Speaker 1: twins loved this. Arm it's just another, big nasty lefty
- 59:55Speaker 1: with a two ten e rara right now through thirty,
- 59:58Speaker 1: innings in in just regular a. Ball but all the
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: prospect reports really reflect that this dude's going to probably
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: be pretty a quick mover through the. SYSTEM i don't
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: think you're you've got the chance of seeing him this,
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: year especially these last two outings that he's. Had he's
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: had a little bit more of a bugaboo with, walks
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: which is probably you, know you just look at What
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: schultz has kind of gone through at the beginning of the.
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: Season when you've got, big lanky arms and lots of
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: things to control where you're, pitching you'll go through those
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: growing pains in the. Miners BUT i think this is
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: somebody In hill who you're looking at being probably like
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: he might crack some top fifties in terms of, prospects
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: just the way that he's moving, quickly AND i think
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: it's the type of arm where you can see him
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: right being ready to go in twenty twenty. Six if
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: he can show those kind of last levels of growth
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: here through twenty twenty. Five, yeah it's.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: Interesting he's, got you, know a i'll call a four pitch,
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: mix and he barely throws a, fastball which is not
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: the most most common at least what we're seeing and
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: down in the, minors but you know he has a good,
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: sinker good change and to your, point like very very.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: Projectable like he's a guy that keeps getting, better getting,
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: better missing more. Bats it's it's one of those interesting
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: things that the guy's getting drafted out of high school
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: is their development periods tend to be, longer and but
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: you tend to see some of these guys with like
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: these really protectable arms make up for the. Major SO i,
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: think long, term really interesting. PROSPECT i wonder if he's
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: going to be one of those guys that rises, quickly
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: takes a year or two to kind of like figure things.
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: Out he's pull up throwing. Gas this guy's kind of,
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: nasty but he's still trying to figure the pitchability and
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: all of a, sudden like it, turns it turns a,
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: switch and he's figured it all out and really really.
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: Ramped SO i think there's a there's a long, term
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: Especially Dynasty league. PERSPECTIVE i think there's a lot to
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: like here with Dayson.
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: Hill, Yeah, okay let's move on to the Al west,
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: Then so who is your pick out of The?
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: West H my pickout of The west is a GUY
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: i absolutely Love Colby thomas from The Sacramento. ATHLETICS i
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: almost Said oakland because the fanografts page still lists everything As.
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: Oakland but you, know another guy that is twenty four years,
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: old really no reason to be left down in the
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: minors this. Point seventy two, games he, said seventeen, homers
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: his steals are down a little. Bit he's only sold
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: six bases this year when he's been up to the
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: fifteen twenty five in the. Past he's sitting in two ninety.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: Nine a guy that really seems to be on the
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: path for maybe a twenty five to fifteen two seventy
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: five profile in the, majors LIKE i, think really really a,
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: strong strong. Bat i'm, surprised frankly he hasn't been called
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: up at this. Point He's he's a bat THAT i
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: think The athletics are maybe trying to let develop just
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: a little bit more BECAUSE i think he's a bigger
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: part of their long term. PLANS i was actually very, surprised,
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: uh When Denzel clark got called up that it wasn't
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: Uh Colby, thomas and So i'm just waiting for that
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: that OPPORTUNITY uh to come for In. Sacramento, uh you,
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: know unfor, unfortunately there's only so many spots in what's
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: actually become a pretty couch turn a, good good line up.
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: There SO, i LIKE i, SAID I i think he's
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: gonna be up before too. LONG i really don't think
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: there's that much longer they can last With Denzel, clark you,
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: know pulling pulling a nice old forty SIX wrc plus
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: in the majors the two of seven, Average so, uh
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: All star break is kind of my prediction for, uh
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: for Toolby, thomas and he he's, Ready LIKE i don't
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: see any question that he's going to hit the ground
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: running and he's going to be a, really really valuable
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: bat in. Fantasy, YEAH i don't.
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: Know it is tough because like it's a great. PROFILE
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: i love. It it's JUST i don't know where he
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: plays BECAUSE i do think they actually will continue With
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: clark here that the defense is SO.
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: I, know he made one amazing, play let's get over.
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: It like he has.
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: Eight point seven defensive run saved over twenty eight. Games
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: like it's it's, Otherworldly like it's the defense that he
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: plays in the, ground that he covers in center field is.
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: Absurd BUT i don't, know do you think is there
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: a pathway through trades, too because like that's the other,
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: Problem like all these dudes in front of him are
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: also young in In, Sacramento like what what did The a's?
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: Do did they try to consolidate talent or that's the.
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: PROBLEM i think With thomas if if there's anywhere, ELSE
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: i think he'd be.
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: Playing, YEAH i think you're right like that that is
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: the challenge, Here like there's really not a guy that
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: you could argue trading unless there is a good opportunity for,
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: pitching because they're pitching is just dreadful and so like
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: it would take probably a big move of somebody like
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: A Lawrence butler OR i don't see how you Move,
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: soulderstrom but like it's gotta. Be it's gonna have to
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: be a big move to try to go after some
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: some pitching. Here unfortunately for, them like the few weak
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: spots you, know, catcher second, base Like solderstrom should be a,
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: catcher but like he's. Not they they've kind of doubled
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: up on all these, outfield first, BASE dh positions and
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: that's what's making it really. Tough BUT i think trade
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: is a spot that they want to see It you're,
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: Right clark has amazing. DEFENSE i still think that's where
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: the most likely opportunity. Comes but they've they've Got they've
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: got to see what they've got because they're gonna have
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: a really really good lineup going into next year and
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: they just have to add some pitching and this team
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: is gonna gonna be pretty.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: Impressive, yeah, YEAH i totally. Agree, okay my, PICK i
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: am gonna go with another. Pitcher i've been kind of
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: on a pitching kick on the al side. Here i'm
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: gonna go With Ryan sloan from The Seattle. Manners so
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: he is a right, hander AND i probably should have
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: done a better job of pulling up his profile page
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: BEFORE i started talking about. Him but he's hanging out
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: right now in a ball With Dessan hill just a
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: tick under ten k per. Nine the era looks ugly
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: at four fifty, four but the fifth is two eighty
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: five so far through forty one and two. Thirds this
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: is a guy who another high school arm out of
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: last year's, draft taking in the second, round but given
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: a three million dollars signing bonus to make sure that
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: he didn't go to. College so the The mariners had
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: a lot of faith in this. ARM i think this
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: is another guy who's going to be just absolutely flying
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: up boards because we're looking at oh look six five two.
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: TWENTY i wonder IF i have a type that another
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: big guy also from The west, suburbs From, elmhurst So
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: White sox, THIS i, mean they're probably just like kicking
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: themselves every day That Ryan sloan isn't in The White
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: sox system big, fastball big, slider big. Splitter so the
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: biggest kind of thing that he's working through is just
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: making sure that the control rounds into. Form BUT i
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: think because of you especially look at you want to,
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: say like a franchise that was pitching rich before we
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: came into the, Season seattle probably would have been on that,
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: list but a lot of those arms have fallen. Apart
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: they've shown in the past that they don't have an
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: issue moving arms quickly through the system and the other
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: thing compared to some of these other. GUYS i brought
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: up a forty seven percent ground ball rate For sloan right,
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: now probably because of that. Splitter so that's why you
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: can stomach the lower k rate a little, bit because
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: like if he can round into a little bit more
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: of a ground ball. Pitcher you put him In, seattle
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: great place to. PITCH i think there's a lot lot
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: of spots Where Ryan sloan makes sense to add now
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: before he kind of really starts taking off rising up prospect,
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: lists before you, know he becomes a hot commodity going
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: into twenty twenty.
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: Six, YEAH i think he's definitely got an intriguing. Profile
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: seattle does a good job developing their pictures and so
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: lots of good, stuff AND i think it he's gonna
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: need a little bit of time to develop, again a
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: young guy coming out of high. SCHOOL i think it's
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: gonna take a few. Years but another organization that's willing to,
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: push willing to bring those guys, through so lots and
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: lots of talent their second round. PICK i think he's
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: gonna really really be something as he develops through the,
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: system especially if he can maintain the kind of control
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: that he's showed him so, far that's gonna take them
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: a long long. Way so maybe a little under the,
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: radar BUT i think it's a good.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: Call all, Right, well let's move over to THE nl,
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: now and we are going to go start in THE Nl.
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: East and with, THAT i know what your pick is
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: going to. BE i tried to allude to him earlier
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: BECAUSE i think he's about to get promoted here pretty
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: soon and might just make his way all the way
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: to the majors by the end of the. Season who is.
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: It, Yeah i'm gonna go on a limb here and
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: SAY i think this is the best pitching prospect in the.
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: Miners he's not being recognized as it, yet BUT i
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: think he has the.
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: Best it helped you, Out.
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: It did help my. ARGUMENT i probably still would have
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: made the statement Over Chase. Burns i'm that bullish On
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: Travis sikora for The Washington. Nationals he is a twenty
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: one year old just barely turned twenty one. Recently to your,
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: point we got a type six six two thirty, two,
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: big big arm, here and he absolutely brings. It he.
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: Missed he kind of got a late start to this
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: year and he's gone through uh ten. Starts but let's
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: just was focus on the six four For HIGH a
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: because he started at a ball which just wasn't really.
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: Fair but they were just trying to get him ramped
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: up after any does some complex work because he just
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: missing time over the, offseason and they're kind of slow
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: playing him to make sure he's fully. Healthy but six
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: starts at HIGH a here got thirty. Innings he's got
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: a one twenty ONE era supported by a one twenty
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: SEVEN fip forty four percent k, rate which is a
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: pretty shirt good and a seven and a half percent walk,
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: rate so that translates to a fifteen to five k
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: for nine low two's walk per. Nine and nobody can touch,
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: Him absolutely nobody can touch. Him he looks just. Nasty.
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: Uh his splitter is. Unbelievable there's there's not much else
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: you can. Say he is playing head and shoulders above
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: what you see there in in a ball he probably should.
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: Be and, well he's gonna to your, point he's gonna
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: be in DOUBLE, a if not TRIPLE a Soon and
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: wouldn't be a shock to see him get a cup
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: of coffee at the end of the season to see
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: if this all could absolutely, stick because he has done
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: absolutely nothing but be impressive the entire time he's been
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: in the. Minors, so, uh you heard it. Now, First Travis,
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: acora a number one pitching prospect of the. MINERS i
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: absolutely love this.
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: Guy, yeah AND i mean if he doesn't falter at DOUBLE,
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: a over the next couple of. Weeks there's this outside.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: Shot he's up at the, Deadline Mike Michael. Sarroka there
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: is a free agent after this, season and so you're
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: looking at somebody that's a dependable backhand arm to get
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: playoff teams through the stretch and you can put him
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: in the. BULLPEN i think he's a pretty easy move
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: for The Washington. Nationals not a huge, salary and they
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: can even eat some of it to Get sacora. Up,
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: so uh, yeah there's you've got to bounce On sacora
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: now if, HONESTLY i think in fifteen, teamers he makes
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: sense to stash over even Like Bubba chandler at this
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: point just because, like even though he's further, away the
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: meteoric rise has become just too much For secora to
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: for The nationals to kind of like hold him back
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: at this.
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: Point absolutely so pick it, up pick him, up even
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: if if this is the kind of, guy like especially
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: if you're playing Like dynasty keeper leagues that if you
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: have minor spots and things like, that you're taking the
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: shot because if he's able to make it up and
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: he does what he's, doing we're Talking Chase burns Type
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: miserowski type, reactions and he's going to be in that
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: like breakout discussion next, year and you want to be
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: into the ground.
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: Floor, yeah, Absolutely, okay my pick is coming from The
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: New York. Mets he is down in DOUBLE a and
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: it is not a giant pitcher the way that we
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: keep we keep picking because the other side of the
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: coin of IF i have a, type it's a scrappy
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: infielder that's way undersized and just kind of doesn't have
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: a great. Position i'm Talking Jet. WILLIAMS i think this
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: dude Is Dustin pedroita two point, zero but maybe like
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: a center fielder with just crazy blazing speed lives up
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: to That jet first. Name there some good nominative. DETERMINISM
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: i was always kind of being On jet because of the.
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: Speed but then WHEN i went to first Pitch arizona last,
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: Fall Eric longenhegen From, fangrafts just could not stop raving
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: About Jet williams and comparing him To Dustin. Patroya and
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: when you watch it in, person it is one of
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: those situations when you're like watching minor league, ball some
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: guys just pop right, away And williams is one of those.
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: Players he's just a superb bat in terms of the bat.
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: Controlled you, know great k rate twenty percent down in
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: DOUBLE a right, now fourteen and a half percent walk
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: rate with six, homers twenty one steals across sixty two.
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: Games he is only five foot, seven but he hits
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: the ball pretty. Hard you, know he hasn't maybe produced
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: the BEST maxiv down, there but the hard hit percentage
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: will play. Enough and you also look at That mets
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: team going into next. Year they've just been limp and
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: by at center, field Where williams hasn't been playing as
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: much in twenty twenty, five but he is capable of
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: handling with his speed and just. Reads he's been playing
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: a lot more, shortstop obviously The mets have that booked
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: up for a, while but you could See williams play
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: second base somewhere up the. Middle maybe the one factor
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: that could Hold jet back is what they're doing For Uisan.
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: Helicunya BUT i think there's a reason why they haven't
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: moved on From Jet williams when they've had the opportunity
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: to trade him since they drafted him back in twenty twenty,
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: two and that's because they know he's he's got this
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: special level to him only twenty one because he came
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: out of high. School SO i think we're. ROUNDING i
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: don't Think williams comes up this, year but there's a
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: really good chance when we're talking this time next year
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: That Jet williams is a starting role in The New York.
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: Mets, yeah you're. Right he's a little little kind of spitfire.
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: Like he's a free swinging. Guy he's gonna slap the ball,
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: Around he's he's gonna do, things he's gonna, base he's
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: gonna be an exciting. PLAYER i think he absolutely. IS
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: i think there's a kind of a question of to
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: your point of win BECAUSE i don't see a really
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: clear path yet for, him AND i don't think they
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: need to force him because they've got a pretty gus
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: urned good team. There uh BUT i think he's a
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: very very exciting. Prospect and, uh it's kind of odd
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: if you watch he's he's they've really bounced him around the,
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: Liners they've they've not held back on trying to challenge,
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: him move him, around and he's responded pretty gush Durned,
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: Well So i'll take your word from. IT i haven't
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: seen him in, person but, uh it sounds sounds. Exciting.
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: Thanks, okay let's move on to THE Nl. Central let's
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: get into Those midwest teams where this is our bread and.
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: Butter so who you hit us?
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: With, Yeah i'm Going homer pick on this, one and
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: that's that's. Okay we're going with WHAT i would say
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: is one of The cardinals' best. Prospects i'm not sure
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: right now where they've Where they've got him in the
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: in the top ten for The, cardinals but we're going
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: WITH Jj weatherhold seventh overall pick last year out Of West.
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: VIRGINIA a few things for. Him you, know he's already
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: moved up to DOUBLE. A he got a little season
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: at SINGLE a last Year DOUBLE. A he has had
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: absolutely no problem in DOUBLE. A he's hitting three, fourteen
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: four thirty, five four fifty. Seven he is walking more
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: than he is striking. Out. Uh the quality of contact
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: is is, strong line drive hitter twenty eight percent line.
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: Drives he is just absolutely mashing the. Ball and if
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: you go look at his Prospect savant, page like Blood,
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: red it is read across the board expecting batting average
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: two eighty. Six average ex velocity is you, know in
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: the upper mid mid, nineties his percent. BALL i see
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: his ninety six to one hard hit, rates fifty five,
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: percent barreling almost nine percent of the time he's not,
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: facing he's he's free. Swinging he swings a, lot but
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: he's swinging at good. Pitches he just looks very. SOLID.
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: Uh does not have any, holes and he was he
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: was lauded is one of the best true hitters in
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: that class last, year and he kind of fell in
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: the in the, draft, frankly and he's done nothing but.
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: Hit he is absolutely a, beautiful beautiful. Hitter it's it's
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: interesting that they have him playing second base MORE uh this,
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: year and you can see them just prepping him With
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: mason win there at shortstop in the. Majors and let's
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: be frank there's not a whole lot filling that whole
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: second base for The cardinals that the you, know revolving
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: door Of Nolan, Gorman Brendan. Donovan don't get me, wrong
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: some talent, there but no nobody's made that their. Home
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: SO i don't think with with the way that team
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: has been, PLAYING i don't think it's out of the
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: question to see J j with here in the second.
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: Half, YEAH i, MEAN i think it's very. Possible you
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: look at some of those other guys that have come
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: up from last year's draft in terms Of kurtz And
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: Cagliown and we talked about it when Weather holt fell
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: to The cardinals that we just were astounded that it
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: happened because this isn't the type of organization in terms
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: of where The cardinals usually, draft, like this isn't the
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: type of player they are usually able to. Get usually
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: it is A Brendan. DONOVAN i, mean they don't have
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: anywhere to Play Thomas segaci right, Now BUT i don't
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: think That Nolan gorman's holding BACK Jj. Wetherholt gorman is
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: what he is right. Now he's a, power strong side platoon,
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: bat corner ish second faxit at second.
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: Base maybe that doesn't really have a.
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: Position, yes, yeah that's not a guy you don't mind
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: moving to the bench already because you know What gorman
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: is as opposed to Weather holt could be something really
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: really special in terms of just a well well rounded.
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: Profile reminds me maybe of Like Ian kinsler from the
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: left side or. Something you could also see a really
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: like right end tail of like A Gunner henderson where
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: like the power really, develops BUT i don't know if
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: he's gonna quite grow into that given his five to ten.
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: FRAME i, think, YEAH i THINK i. AGREE i don't
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: know If i'm ready to stash him, yet but he
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: is in fifteen team ors someone you got to be
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: watching pretty closely because if they if he especially makes
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: the move to TRIPLE a Weather, HOLD i think you've
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: got to start sashing him at that.
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: Point, YEAH i think, so so it'll be fun to.
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: WATCH i do think he's one of the guys that
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: the power's gonna maybe. TRAIL i think he's gonna be
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: much more of a spray line drive doubles kind of.
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: Guy but, hey long, term this is a guy that
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: can he can, move he can hit the ball like
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: it's not hard to dream up a pretty full stat.
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: Page, yeah, okay Well i'm sticking with The homer pick here.
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: Too i'm sticking with. Uh i'm gonna go with joshuabayas
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: Weather holds teammate at DOUBLE, a a twenty one year.
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: Old there a little bit bigger guy six foot three
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: play in the corner. Outfield and this is a guy
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: where when The cardinals took him out of high school
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: in twenty twenty, one and in the second, round tons
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: and tons of questions about his ability to be able
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: to put the bat to the ball because he had
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: a really groove. Swing The cardinals have tweaked that and
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: you can see it directly in the k. RATE i
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: think this is Why Saint louis pulled the trigger on
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: drafting him so high that they knew they could make these.
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: Changes took a couple of years to finally work out for,
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: bias but this is a guy who was very regularly
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: striking out in the upper thirty percents down even at
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: a ball in the complex. League has cut it to
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: twenty three point seven percent across two. Leagues he's at
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: twenty eight point two percent In DOUBLE. A if he
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: can keep it in the high. Twenties the power plays
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: here for, bias where you're looking at somebody who was
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: a total afterthought from prospect to somebody who could be
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: talking about like a back end top one hundred sort of.
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: Guy so that's really What i'm looking for here is
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: in terms of dynasty keeper. LEAGUES i think you probably
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: still got a couple of years of seasoning here on,
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: bias but it could be a really huge. Payoff considering
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: this is a guy, who coming into twenty twenty, five
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: bias in his giant k rates was just off of everybody's.
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: Boards now that he's able to cut that down and
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: actually lean into some of that, power look out because
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: this is a guy who can easily. It actually it
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: reminds me of like A Ryan. Ludwick like maybe that
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: is too much of like A Saint louis Of Saint
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: louis kind of, comparison but like there's a thirty five
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: homer season in this bat if the development continues for, Bias.
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: Yeah i'll get you in a more recent comp like
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: a Like Alec, burlison like a guy that like you're
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: just looking at, me like is he gonna really do?
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: Something that just keeps doing like AND i think you're,
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: Right like he he's got, massive massive hour and it
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: was just man like this guy strikes out thirty five percent,
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: time forty percent of the, Time like that's never gonna,
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: Play and all of a sudden he seems to have
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: rained that in and it's not like a trade off against.
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: Walks it's not like he's all of a sudden he
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: can really aggressive and just swinging at everything and put
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: it in play like he seems like he's truly maturing
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: as a. Hitter you're, right it's gonna gonna take a little.
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: TIME i don't see him coming up anytime. Soon they
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: really need to make sure that what the changes have. Stuck,
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: so you, know half half a, year not even half
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: half a year at DOUBLE. A you, know twenty games
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: at DOUBLE a doesn't make a you, know a big.
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: Leap BUT i think there's been a lot of.
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: Improvement, yeah, YEAH i am.
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: So.
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: Yeah if you're In, dynasty keep your situations watch, lists
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: or add to the back end of the. ROSTER i
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: think you could find a gem in the rough. There
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: let's move on to the in All, west our last,
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: division SO i will pass it over to. You who
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: is your?
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: Pick, Yeah i'm fully owning That i'm cheating on this
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: one because he's just he's in. Them but he hasn't Been,
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: uh he's actually been in the majors in both of
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: the last two, seasons but That's Jordan. Lawler uh For.
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: Arizona he when he's been up to the, majors he's been.
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: DREADFUL i think is fair to be. SAID i think
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: he pulled a nice over nineteen across eight games in
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: the little cup of coffee he had this this. Season
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: but another guy that has really kind of come into
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: his own at the minor league. Level fifty two, games
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: he's hit ten, homers stole an eighteen, bases hitting three twenty.
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: One that's good for one thirty EIGHT wrc plus gets on, base,
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: uh you, know four to. Eleven obp really really has
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: kind of matured as a hitter and as even as
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: a base. STEALER i think he's gonna you, know he's
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: he stole eighteen bases in uh two attempts at our
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: eighteen bases and twenty, attempts caught twice in TRIPLE. A
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: like he's he's a dynamic, player and you, know maybe
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: the biggest knock is he puts the ball in the
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: ground a little too. Much but like he's he's a
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: line drive spray, hitter you, know puts a good bat on.
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: It we'll get out of the fence AND i think
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: they'll play there In. Arizona so if, anything there's kind
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: of like A biden opportunity here because he's now had
- 1:24:18Speaker 2: two cups of coffee and we're saying like small. Cups
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: he's had a whole total of twenty two major league,
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: games and he's he's Not he's not hit really in either.
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: Scenario he's got a total of four hits in those
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: twenty two. Games BUT i think that some of the
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: hype has died. DOWN i don't think the skills have gone.
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: ANYWHERE i think he's absolutely still a guy that is
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: just a very very well rounded athlete that's gonna play,
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: very very well at the next. Level so give me
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: Your Jordan lawler shares if you're if you're shying away from.
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: IT i think there's still a lot left in the
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: tank there For lawler when he, really you, know stakes
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: his claim at the major league. Level.
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah AND i think it could be pretty, soon
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: considering this is a, team as we talked, about With
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: carol getting, injured probably on the precipice of, selling and you,
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: know if they fall a couple more games, out they
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: need to really make that move quickly to be able
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: to try to recoup what they can because Especially gallon
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: And kelly are are free agents unless they're playing on
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: bringing them. Back good good thing to be holding at
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: the deadline is two front line starters like. That, well,
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: absolutely maybe Not Zach, gallon.
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: But former frontline, Starters, yes.
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: Exactly all, Right i'm going to go all the way
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: down to The Complex league for my last pick, Here
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: Los Angeles, dodgers And i'm going to butcher, this BUT
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: i think it's Ching shinko Chingsen. Co he is a
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: left handed, outfielder eighteen year, old six foot three two,
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: fifteen probably has more filling out to do considering how.
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: Young he.
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: Is just absolutely annihilating The Complex league right. Now after
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: crushing THE dsl last, Year he's slashing three seventy, three forty,
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: four five seventy one down The Complex. League that's a
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: one to seventy FIVE wrc. Plus everything has been really
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: glowing about the reports in terms of how Smooth co's swing,
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: is AND i mean the only thing that's kind of
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: holding him back here is how much space The dodgers
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: have to be able to move him. Up there's actually
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: a lot of guys who are going to be in
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: this situation for The. Dodgers Between, Huswey depaula And Mike,
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: sirota there's a lot of outfielders that they have come
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: through the. System Zier hope totally forgot About zaarah whop
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: who might Be like in discussion for number one fancy,
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: prospect you, know as we kind of clear out the list,
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: HERE i still Love co because this is a really special.
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: Profile and when you start getting the scouting report that
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: go along with that and kind of back up what
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: you're seeing in those complex, NUMBERS i think you're looking
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: at a guy who could be a really, significant major impact.
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: Player it's just it's a total like wild card gamble
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: at this point because he is an eighteen year. Old
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: but if you're in a dynasty keeper situation and you're
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: looking for somebody who could be a really quick riser
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: and really kind of bring back major trade capital in
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: a couple, months are going into twenty twenty six for
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: being a free ad right? Now this is the type
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: of bat you got Chasing.
- 1:27:36Speaker 2: Co, yeah it's what you called. Out is like at this,
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: point for an eighteen year, old you're just looking, for,
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: like are there like these impressive, tools and then you
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: gamble that they, Developed like that's what you're looking, for
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: and he has some impressive, tools and so you. Buy
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: you hope they, developed and if they, don't you. Didn't
- 1:27:56Speaker 2: really you're not really out. Anything it's it is like
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: one of the hardest organizations to be in with that
- 1:28:02Speaker 2: kind of, profile a good organization to develop good, talent
- 1:28:05Speaker 2: but it is chock full of a lot a lot of,
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: talent so it'll be fun to watch how he develops
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: and how much of that truly translates into game. POWER
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: i just love that what appears to be a very
- 1:28:18Speaker 2: mature approach from for an international signee already this early
- 1:28:22Speaker 2: in his, career you, know at the age of. Eighteen
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: SO i it's it's a deep, dig BUT i like
- 1:28:28Speaker 2: it all.
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: Right that wraps it up for the prospects that we've.
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: Got LIKE i, said check out those show, notes especially
