- 0:02Speaker 1: This is a Bramble Jam podcast. Welcome to Girls Gone
- 0:23Speaker 1: Hallmark on Hallmark Review Podcast. I'm Megan and I'm a
- 0:26Speaker 1: longtime Hallmark fan. I'm Wendy, I'm a former Hallmark hater.
- 0:29Speaker 1: On today's episode, we're discussing single on the twenty fifth,
- 0:32Speaker 1: which originally aired on Sunday, December seventh on the Hallmark
- 0:35Speaker 1: Channel and is currently available to stream on Hallmark Plus.
- 0:40Speaker 1: You heard it here first, folks. The annual count on
- 0:42Speaker 1: a Christmas Bracket is back for the twenty twenty five
- 0:45Speaker 1: season and will be happening exclusively on our Instagram, which
- 0:50Speaker 1: is Girls Gone Hallmark. Follow us there and stay tuned
- 0:54Speaker 1: for all of the details which will be forthcoming, which
- 0:57Speaker 1: just is code for we haven't figured it out quite
- 1:00Speaker 1: that is correct. Hey, come join our Facebook group. You know,
- 1:05Speaker 1: I always think like, oh, we have a small but
- 1:07Speaker 1: mighty group over there, but there are fifteen hundred, sixteen
- 1:11Speaker 1: hundred people over there who love daily to talk about
- 1:15Speaker 1: Hallmark movies, especially in real time. If you're like, you know,
- 1:19Speaker 1: watching on a Saturday night and you're like, hey, I
- 1:21Speaker 1: don't have anybody to talk about this movie with one,
- 1:23Speaker 1: you can jump over to our Instagram and give us
- 1:26Speaker 1: your first impression or come into our group because there's
- 1:29Speaker 1: tons of people there who want to dive right in
- 1:33Speaker 1: to their favorite things about these movies. Question. Yeah, would
- 1:36Speaker 1: you like to keep first impressions on Instagram going outside
- 1:40Speaker 1: of the count of Christmas season? I think so. Yeah.
- 1:43Speaker 1: I think from a business aspect it's great for engagement.
- 1:48Speaker 1: I think so too. And what I've noticed is it
- 1:51Speaker 1: seems like people are now starting to seek it out
- 1:53Speaker 1: to drop their opinions in there. Yeah. I think it's
- 1:56Speaker 1: me happy. I think it's great. Well, let's talk Single
- 1:59Speaker 1: on the twenty fifth, and we're gonna start with a synopsis.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Nell decides to spend Christmas on her own after her
- 2:06Speaker 1: family's plans fall through, only to cross paths with her
- 2:11Speaker 1: happily unattached neighbor Cooper. Their easy festive friendship starts to
- 2:15Speaker 1: feel like something more until Nell discovers he's offered help
- 2:19Speaker 1: out of pity. To save the season, both must grow
- 2:23Speaker 1: new by embracing her strength and Cooper by proving his
- 2:26Speaker 1: feelings are genuine. Jonathan Wright directed Single on the twenty fifth.
- 2:30Speaker 1: This is his second movie in the twenty twenty five
- 2:33Speaker 1: countdown to Christmas season. And his twenty seventh overall. He
- 2:37Speaker 1: has previously directed We Met in December, the Perfect Setting
- 2:41Speaker 1: and fan favorite A Very Merry Mix Up Pause. Do
- 2:45Speaker 1: you recall in a recent episode we talked about our
- 2:48Speaker 1: soothing podcast, which I was just reminded of because I
- 2:50Speaker 1: put on my podcaster voice. Yeah, that we should make
- 2:52Speaker 1: a nighttime sleepy time. We're gonna call it IMDb dreams.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I don't hate it, stay tuned. I don't hate it.
- 3:01Speaker 1: I don't have the voice to do it. You're gonna
- 3:02Speaker 1: have to get in the closet and be like Jonathan
- 3:05Speaker 1: Wright dires. I think there's a market for people who
- 3:10Speaker 1: would just turn on the IMBD. That's not what it's
- 3:14Speaker 1: called the IMDb description of shows just to hear someone talking.
- 3:20Speaker 1: I think you should do it as a sleeping you
- 3:23Speaker 1: should do it. Well, just start start and I say we,
- 3:26Speaker 1: and I mean you, because you can turn that voice on.
- 3:28Speaker 1: I sound like a screeching Hyaena, so that I sound
- 3:31Speaker 1: like a screeching Hyaena when I don't stop and lower
- 3:35Speaker 1: things the voice. Yeah. I was listening to our podcast
- 3:40Speaker 1: episode today because that's what I do in my car
- 3:42Speaker 1: as I listen to myself talk. I have to turn
- 3:45Speaker 1: myself down because I'm like so much higher sometimes not
- 3:51Speaker 1: volume wise, I'm just talking about of my voice. I
- 3:54Speaker 1: feel the same way I look. I am a misogynist
- 3:56Speaker 1: against myself most days. Okay, let's talk about jo Joa
- 4:00Speaker 1: Bachhan wrote this screenplay where big fans of her work.
- 4:03Speaker 1: With thirty two writing credits. She's been responsible for any
- 4:07Speaker 1: Port Christmas savoring, Paris branching out, and our Italian Christmas Memories. Guys,
- 4:12Speaker 1: if you've never seen our Italian Christmas Memories, get ready
- 4:15Speaker 1: to cry your eyeballs out. You know I've never seen
- 4:17Speaker 1: that movie. You should watch it. I'm not ready to
- 4:19Speaker 1: cry my eyeballs out. Lindsay Vonseca stars as Now. Lindsay
- 4:23Speaker 1: was last on Hallmark in twenty twenty four. Really been
- 4:26Speaker 1: a long time with both Holiday Crashers and the Magic
- 4:29Speaker 1: of Lemon Drops. This is her fifty fifth acting credit.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Daniel Listing co stars as Cooper, known for his longtime
- 4:37Speaker 1: role as Jack on When Calls the Heart. Daniel returned
- 4:39Speaker 1: to Hallmark in twenty twenty four for Santa Tell Me.
- 4:42Speaker 1: This movie marks his thirty fourth acting credit. Tanisha Collins
- 4:46Speaker 1: plays friend Julia. She has twenty seven acting credits and
- 4:48Speaker 1: has appeared in a bunch of shows like Fatherhood and
- 4:51Speaker 1: The Bold Type. This is her first time on Hallmark.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Laura Spencer Smith appears as herself performing the song single
- 4:59Speaker 1: on the twenty fifth. Victor Andre Turgen Trellis plays Thomas.
- 5:03Speaker 1: He's appeared on the show Fire Country and Star Trek Discovery.
- 5:07Speaker 1: This looks like his first role for Hallmark. Let's take
- 5:10Speaker 1: a quick break and come right back with our first impressions. Hey, Wendy,
- 5:24Speaker 1: what was your first impression of Single? On the twenty fifth,
- 5:26Speaker 1: This movie insists now is a tragic holiday case, but
- 5:31Speaker 1: from where I'm sitting, her lonely life looked kind of aspirational.
- 5:35Speaker 1: My first impression is I would very much like to
- 5:37Speaker 1: spend Christmas alone in my pajamas with a thermostat crank. Okay,
- 5:40Speaker 1: is that crazy that you and I both are like,
- 5:42Speaker 1: please leave us alone, Please leave us alone. That says
- 5:47Speaker 1: a lot about where our lives are at right now.
- 5:51Speaker 1: I was gone all day yesterday and my husband was
- 5:54Speaker 1: home alone and I was like, Ah, did you miss us?
- 5:56Speaker 1: And he goes nope, And I go, God, that's a dream.
- 6:00Speaker 1: I said, That's all I want for Christmas, he goes,
- 6:01Speaker 1: maybe you need to go somewhere. I'm like, please, anywhere,
- 6:04Speaker 1: go somewhere, anywhere. You should go somewhere. Book yourself, Like
- 6:09Speaker 1: I stay at an airport hotel. For goodness sakes, let
- 6:13Speaker 1: me tell you the airport at the Denver Airport is
- 6:16Speaker 1: pretty nice. Hotel there. Yeah, I mean we're in Orange County.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Do you remember Hotel Irvine. Yeah. I'm so sad that
- 6:24Speaker 1: place closed. It was every time I darted by it,
- 6:26Speaker 1: I'm like, there it is still I know, is it
- 6:28Speaker 1: actually like closed? Closed? If I went to the door,
- 6:30Speaker 1: it would be closed. There's nothing there, It's closed. The
- 6:33Speaker 1: hotel doesn't exist anymore. It still says Hotel Irvine on
- 6:36Speaker 1: the building it. I could have sworn they did not
- 6:40Speaker 1: survive twenty twenty. Yes, no, they do not exist anymore.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Is that just a Tel Irvine, closed, empty building sitting there?
- 6:48Speaker 1: I don't know. Inside Orange County folks. That was a
- 6:52Speaker 1: cute little place. Yeah. We went away, oh just for
- 6:54Speaker 1: one night, right, and we worked. That's how fun we are.
- 6:57Speaker 1: We worked. It was a good time. Well, let's talk
- 7:04Speaker 1: what we liked about single on the twenty fifth. Okay, So, Megan,
- 7:09Speaker 1: if you listen to our last episode. She's making a list.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Meghan said we're gonna fight over this movie. I think
- 7:14Speaker 1: she might be wrong. I don't think we're gonna fight.
- 7:18Speaker 1: I just don't think I've loved it as much as
- 7:19Speaker 1: you did. Okay, well I did. I think you've been
- 7:22Speaker 1: mesmerized by one Daniel Lissing. Dude, y'all need We interviewed
- 7:28Speaker 1: Daniel Lissing as part of a podcaster press junket last week,
- 7:31Speaker 1: and we meean Meghan. Okay, it's a team effort. First
- 7:36Speaker 1: of all, I show up to that press junket Daniel Stocking,
- 7:39Speaker 1: I'm like, whoa, He's I almost had Italian. He's Australian,
- 7:42Speaker 1: had no idea, no idea. Every party in the world's like, yeah, dummy.
- 7:48Speaker 1: And what was really funny is in the interview a
- 7:51Speaker 1: couple of times he like slides into Cooper and it
- 7:53Speaker 1: just like immediately flips a switch with his American accent.
- 7:56Speaker 1: It's impressive, but yet listen to that interview. The full
- 8:00Speaker 1: context of the junket is uploaded on our website. We've
- 8:03Speaker 1: also posted a couple of reels. He yes, it did
- 8:06Speaker 1: deepen my enjoyment of the movie, but tell the truth.
- 8:09Speaker 1: I watched this movie ahead of that junket and was
- 8:11Speaker 1: texting him like, this movie's really cute. I liked it
- 8:14Speaker 1: going into it. He's very introspective, has some really interesting
- 8:19Speaker 1: things to say about the movie, and it did enhance
- 8:21Speaker 1: my enjoyment of the movie. I will tell you that.
- 8:24Speaker 1: But let's talk some specific things. I think they did
- 8:27Speaker 1: a nice job being very real about some awkward moments.
- 8:32Speaker 1: So the neighbor small talk scene when they're like trying
- 8:36Speaker 1: to bring the tree in and he's like standing there. Yes,
- 8:39Speaker 1: She's like, I don't want to get caught in the
- 8:40Speaker 1: conversational shuffle and her friend's like, what do you mean.
- 8:43Speaker 1: She's like, you know, just the shuffle through the safe topics.
- 8:45Speaker 1: And then they're like, let's talk about the weather, let's
- 8:47Speaker 1: talk about our holiday plans, and then they okay, well
- 8:51Speaker 1: it's I feel that perfectly awkward. Yeah. Cut to her
- 8:55Speaker 1: having to kill some time in his apartment and she's like,
- 8:58Speaker 1: what do you do? So they really kind of sat
- 9:02Speaker 1: in those scenes and let the silence speak for itself
- 9:06Speaker 1: a little bit. Daniel does talk about that in our
- 9:08Speaker 1: interview about how that's kind of where the magic happens
- 9:12Speaker 1: in those moments where you just let it come out.
- 9:14Speaker 1: I thought it was a real, quiet comedy and enjoyed
- 9:18Speaker 1: it and felt very uncomfortably real. Joibot Can as our writer,
- 9:24Speaker 1: always gives us deeper than surface level story time telling
- 9:28Speaker 1: it's not just a surface level holiday romance. She gives
- 9:31Speaker 1: us characters who are doing the emotional homework. Both Daniel
- 9:37Speaker 1: says it like I'm just going to keep referencing it.
- 9:39Speaker 1: He says, Nell grows outward and Daniel has growth inward.
- 9:45Speaker 1: And I think, and he even says he's like Cooper's
- 9:47Speaker 1: a little bit of an ass in the movie. He
- 9:48Speaker 1: comes from kind of like a douchey plays and he
- 9:52Speaker 1: does a little bit. But I think maybe the thing,
- 9:57Speaker 1: and correct me if I'm wrong. I think maybe the
- 9:59Speaker 1: thing that put you off of this movie, which isn't
- 10:02Speaker 1: to say that you didn't like it, is this idea
- 10:05Speaker 1: that singleness is a problem to be solved. Ah, I
- 10:08Speaker 1: can agree with that. So I was very nervous at
- 10:13Speaker 1: the beginning of this movie. The movie's called Single on
- 10:15Speaker 1: the twenty fifth, and she's like, I'm going to go
- 10:16Speaker 1: in being single. I'm gonna I'm gonna live my life
- 10:20Speaker 1: and I'm thinking, oh no, because we all know they're
- 10:22Speaker 1: going to end up together because it's a Hallmark movie.
- 10:25Speaker 1: So how are we going to get from it's great,
- 10:27Speaker 1: it's okay to be single to now I'm in a relationship.
- 10:31Speaker 1: I liked the arc where they said it is okay
- 10:36Speaker 1: to explore yourself and be comfortable in yourself. And at
- 10:40Speaker 1: the very end of the movie where she's at her
- 10:41Speaker 1: support group, which don't worry, we're going to talk about
- 10:44Speaker 1: but she says, learning my aloneness wasn't a problem to
- 10:49Speaker 1: be solved. Yeah, and being okay with being alone is
- 10:53Speaker 1: not the same as not wanting to be in a relationship,
- 10:56Speaker 1: Like both of those things can exist. Ye, She's like,
- 10:59Speaker 1: I'm tired of you for my life to start, because
- 11:01Speaker 1: I'm that my real life starts when I have a partner.
- 11:03Speaker 1: My real life can start. Now. I think it is
- 11:06Speaker 1: okay to acknowledge like she wanted to be in a relationship.
- 11:11Speaker 1: She wanted the the love you seek is closer than
- 11:14Speaker 1: you think moment right. But also she figured out how
- 11:19Speaker 1: to be okay on her own and not just in
- 11:22Speaker 1: a holding pattern. When I'm with my family, I can
- 11:25Speaker 1: have a real Christmas. When I'm in a relationship. I
- 11:27Speaker 1: can have a real Christmas. You can go all in
- 11:30Speaker 1: on those you are enough right moments. Right, I will
- 11:34Speaker 1: get to my wishes, but I don't disagree with anything
- 11:38Speaker 1: you say. There my final big like the slow build,
- 11:41Speaker 1: it works for me. The chemistry is chemistry ing. The
- 11:45Speaker 1: Rudolph movie scene with the slight finger grays of the
- 11:49Speaker 1: thigh was so good, like so much more intimate than
- 11:54Speaker 1: a kiss in that moment. Yeah, totally, I loved it.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Here are my likes, and I have a list of likes.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Agree with you. I do believe this movie is like
- 12:04Speaker 1: an actual romance we're watching. All the Whollmark movies we've
- 12:09Speaker 1: gotten this season are like rom come or like you know,
- 12:12Speaker 1: there's the romance is like a byproduct like whatever. Like
- 12:16Speaker 1: this to me felt like, oh, this is a romantic story,
- 12:19Speaker 1: a believable these two people learning about each other. Yeah,
- 12:23Speaker 1: the romance is centered in our story. Yeah. I appreciated that.
- 12:28Speaker 1: That felt super different than a lot of the movies
- 12:30Speaker 1: we've gotten this year. So I really enjoyed that. I
- 12:34Speaker 1: co sign on the slow burn down right. I thought,
- 12:39Speaker 1: you know, these two like slightly awkward neighbors inching towards
- 12:44Speaker 1: each other having like real conversations, you know, like you said,
- 12:48Speaker 1: we got past like the awkward conversation shuffle to actual
- 12:54Speaker 1: meati conversations. I thought was done really well and worked
- 12:57Speaker 1: better than I expected. Part of me really wondered about
- 13:01Speaker 1: Daniel Lissie's character. I was like, is he socially awkward here?
- 13:05Speaker 1: Like what's the deal that whole scene when they're in
- 13:08Speaker 1: like the atrium of the hotel with the Christmas tree,
- 13:10Speaker 1: Like he was so uncomfortable, Like they were both uncomfortable,
- 13:14Speaker 1: but he. I was like, what's the vibe here? Is he?
- 13:18Speaker 1: Do she? Or is he truly? I thought, could this
- 13:21Speaker 1: character be on the spectrum a little bit? Like doesn't
- 13:24Speaker 1: know how to interact with people? I think what we've
- 13:27Speaker 1: come to it is like he was just uncomfortable with
- 13:29Speaker 1: his true self and so therefore you act kind of
- 13:33Speaker 1: guarded right well. In the interview, Daniel says that he
- 13:37Speaker 1: developed a backstory for Cooper that was not on the page,
- 13:40Speaker 1: and one of those things was that Cooper was heartbroken
- 13:43Speaker 1: and that heartbreak had occurred in a restaurant at a
- 13:47Speaker 1: corner table where if you remember, at the restaurant, he
- 13:51Speaker 1: he tells her when they're they're going to their alone
- 13:54Speaker 1: together dinner and he talks to the host and he's like,
- 13:58Speaker 1: I just wanted to make sure we got the perfect table,
- 14:01Speaker 1: never near the kitchen, never in a corner. And so
- 14:03Speaker 1: to him, that was his backstory, Like he's like, I
- 14:06Speaker 1: love a corner table, but that brings up that memory
- 14:10Speaker 1: for me. So that's where he was coming from. That's
- 14:13Speaker 1: where what he was bringing to the character. Of course
- 14:15Speaker 1: it's not on the page, but that's what he was
- 14:19Speaker 1: trying to work with for Cooper. Interesting, h interesting, which
- 14:26Speaker 1: then makes him defensive, sure and guarded. Kind of wish
- 14:32Speaker 1: for that context a little bit, right. Yeah, now that
- 14:37Speaker 1: you say that, I'm mentally putting that in my wishes,
- 14:40Speaker 1: I'll just drop that there. I enjoyed him a lot.
- 14:46Speaker 1: You know, we're not we're not heart ease. We didn't
- 14:48Speaker 1: watch that show. We don't watch that show. He's not
- 14:51Speaker 1: on that show. But he's great, really good. He was
- 14:55Speaker 1: in last year's Santa Tell Me he was so good
- 14:57Speaker 1: in that too. Like, I want to see him in
- 14:59Speaker 1: a non Chris this movie, Give me a summer movie. Yeah,
- 15:02Speaker 1: I just I don't know. Lindsay Vonseca, I love her,
- 15:06Speaker 1: She's great. Truly. She's very fun in this. She's so
- 15:10Speaker 1: fun in this. I have some wishes about her too.
- 15:14Speaker 1: But my final thing that I really like is Chicago
- 15:16Speaker 1: looked good. Chicago looked fun, festive Chicago in my mind.
- 15:21Speaker 1: And I don't know if this is propaganda, but Chicago
- 15:24Speaker 1: to me is a dangerous place and it looked beautiful. Oh,
- 15:28Speaker 1: that probably is propaganda. I mean this was Montreal. But yes,
- 15:31Speaker 1: they did a true job. I think they did a
- 15:35Speaker 1: really nice job with the settings. And again in the interview,
- 15:40Speaker 1: these are the kinds of things you're missing if you're
- 15:41Speaker 1: not paying attention. Daniel talks about how they spent a
- 15:45Speaker 1: lot of time location scouting. There was they really paid
- 15:49Speaker 1: attention to the exterior filming locations. They said, there's nothing's
- 15:54Speaker 1: a set. Everything is a real restaurant or real apartment,
- 15:56Speaker 1: and so it I thought. I thought it was beautiful
- 15:59Speaker 1: to me too, mantra Chicago. Well, let's talk wishes, Okay,
- 16:07Speaker 1: Can I start. Yeah. I did not totally buy that
- 16:11Speaker 1: Nell is so lonely she might shatter arc m to
- 16:18Speaker 1: I love Lindsay Vonseca, but this movie kept insisting that
- 16:22Speaker 1: she was unraveling, and I did not feel that from
- 16:27Speaker 1: her performance, she didn't read as like insecure or codependent
- 16:33Speaker 1: at all. To me. She read as normal functioning. Yeah,
- 16:39Speaker 1: you know, I get. I also come from a place
- 16:43Speaker 1: of I don't have FOMO and I feel like, Okay,
- 16:47Speaker 1: she was like, Oh, I'm missing out on the holidays
- 16:50Speaker 1: because my family isn't here, or I'm missing out on
- 16:53Speaker 1: having this romanticized Christmas holiday because I don't have a partner.
- 16:58Speaker 1: I don't feel that way in my normal life. So
- 17:00Speaker 1: like I couldn't connect with her, Like I just was like,
- 17:03Speaker 1: I don't see it. She looks like she's functioning. Yes,
- 17:07Speaker 1: I think she totally looked like she's functioning. And I
- 17:09Speaker 1: didn't get the vibe that she was like unraveling, just
- 17:11Speaker 1: that she had a missing piece. But I think you
- 17:15Speaker 1: and I can't relate Like we've been married for one
- 17:18Speaker 1: billion years, we have children. We not with each other, guys,
- 17:24Speaker 1: just correct, want me that clear. We're married to different people.
- 17:27Speaker 1: As we talked about at the top of this episode,
- 17:30Speaker 1: being alone as the gift, we have plenty of togetherness,
- 17:33Speaker 1: plenty of the family time during the holidays, right, and
- 17:36Speaker 1: the our dexcended families are both local. So I don't
- 17:41Speaker 1: know that I could fully relate, because in my mind,
- 17:43Speaker 1: I'm thinking being alone for a week at the holidays,
- 17:46Speaker 1: that's a freaking dream. Oh my god. If I could
- 17:49Speaker 1: just have a full week and one day, I'm like,
- 17:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna make cookies. That sounds heavenly to me. Heavenly
- 17:56Speaker 1: to decorate, to dance around in my underwear with the
- 18:00Speaker 1: like ornaments and whatever. Yes, but if your every day
- 18:06Speaker 1: was coming home to an empty apartment. Now, look, I'm
- 18:09Speaker 1: fiercely independent, so part of me is like, I think
- 18:11Speaker 1: I'd be fine. I think I would be fine. But again,
- 18:13Speaker 1: I'm forty six years old. I've been Mary for a
- 18:15Speaker 1: long time. Like I think I can appreciate that. I
- 18:18Speaker 1: don't know. I don't think I can fully understand who
- 18:21Speaker 1: she is because of the life that I have lived.
- 18:23Speaker 1: And also I think me at twenty eight would have
- 18:28Speaker 1: been like, no, no, I need to be in a relationship.
- 18:31Speaker 1: I need that to complete my life because I had
- 18:33Speaker 1: this vision of like marriage, family, this whole package. Yeah,
- 18:38Speaker 1: but now I have it. Yeah. So you're saying, if
- 18:41Speaker 1: you were single and twenty eight and you had this
- 18:43Speaker 1: timeline set up for yourself or what, you're just this
- 18:47Speaker 1: trajectory of how you saw your life and it was
- 18:50Speaker 1: not happening. You think you might be like spiraling out
- 18:54Speaker 1: a little bit. Maybe not spiraling, but I would be like, oh,
- 18:58Speaker 1: I would be hoping that was part of my future.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Of the love you seek is closer than you think. Yeah, well,
- 19:02Speaker 1: let me tell you this. I have a sister who's
- 19:04Speaker 1: much younger than me, much younger than me, who is single,
- 19:08Speaker 1: and I wonder if that's how she feels like. You know,
- 19:13Speaker 1: she goes home every night, but she comes and sees
- 19:15Speaker 1: us at the holidays too, and then gets bombarded with
- 19:18Speaker 1: the questions of like, I'm so sorry for her, Why
- 19:21Speaker 1: are you still single? Are you dating? Is there anybody specially? Yes?
- 19:25Speaker 1: Are you bringing any I've decided I just don't ask
- 19:27Speaker 1: her any of those questions anymore, which makes me feel bad.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Is it makes me feel like I'm disengaged from her life.
- 19:32Speaker 1: But also I don't need to bombard her. Yes, but
- 19:35Speaker 1: if you had information that there was something worth talking about,
- 19:38Speaker 1: you would dig deeper. Yeah, so I wonder like from
- 19:42Speaker 1: her perspective as a late twenty early thirty year old,
- 19:47Speaker 1: I wonder how she would relate watching this movie. But
- 19:49Speaker 1: I don't want to be like, here, you should watch
- 19:50Speaker 1: this movie about being single. Like that's almost as bad.
- 19:54Speaker 1: It's like Niel's uncle sending her that book. Yes, exactly exactly.
- 19:59Speaker 1: My second wish is I kind of felt a little
- 20:03Speaker 1: low key uncomfortable with Cooper coaching Nell into independence. Hmmm,
- 20:11Speaker 1: tell me more. Why is this man have to like
- 20:16Speaker 1: she was not unraveling, She was fully functionable. She wasn't unraveling,
- 20:22Speaker 1: but she wasn't comfortable with a loneness. She She was like, Oh,
- 20:27Speaker 1: I'm gonna be If they're not coming, I gotta go
- 20:29Speaker 1: to them. Like the idea of her doing these things
- 20:32Speaker 1: alone wasn't occurring to her. She wasn't settling in. She's like, oh,
- 20:36Speaker 1: I got this reservation. I got to cancel it. That's fair.
- 20:40Speaker 1: I just would feel resentful if somebody in my life
- 20:43Speaker 1: was like trying to coach me into being like more
- 20:46Speaker 1: olgoing oh God, or more fun or whatever, I'd be like, no, No,
- 20:52Speaker 1: I think I think it's fair to say that Nell
- 20:55Speaker 1: and you and I are very different people. Yes, no,
- 21:00Speaker 1: please do not tell me what to do. Please do
- 21:01Speaker 1: not suggest ways that you could make my life better.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I'm just fine, thank you, right, I'm just fine. My
- 21:07Speaker 1: last wish was the self help stuff and the lie group,
- 21:12Speaker 1: and that was a touch too far. Look, singleness does
- 21:17Speaker 1: not require a support group. Yeah, while there were moments
- 21:21Speaker 1: of wisdom in that group, and it does. It is
- 21:23Speaker 1: the place where she has her emotional epiphany. I just
- 21:27Speaker 1: don't think that singles need a support group. It does
- 21:30Speaker 1: suggest it's a problem to be solved, it does suggest
- 21:33Speaker 1: it's a hardship. Like I think. It's a funny note
- 21:36Speaker 1: when her friend suggests going to a single support group
- 21:39Speaker 1: and she says, it's not like I need support for
- 21:42Speaker 1: the tragedy that is my unpartnered life, and then she
- 21:45Speaker 1: actually goes, no, listen to a podcast, you know. Look,
- 21:53Speaker 1: I think support groups have their purpose if you're greed
- 21:58Speaker 1: at like a Greek support Sure for a divorce support group.
- 22:01Speaker 1: But then on the flip side, we are currently also
- 22:04Speaker 1: watching twelve Dates till Christmas. She should have done like
- 22:08Speaker 1: a matchmaking thing? Or yeah, does she have only one
- 22:11Speaker 1: single friend and single not as like as in one
- 22:15Speaker 1: friend she only has one friend? Yeah? Yeah whatever? Yeah
- 22:20Speaker 1: no more? Or last minute Christmas parties deciding to throw
- 22:23Speaker 1: a Christmas party on the twenty fifth with five days
- 22:25Speaker 1: to plan. It is fully diabolical and ascidning it to Cooper,
- 22:27Speaker 1: who is not a party planner in a company that
- 22:29Speaker 1: clearly has a budget. Give me a break. Yeah, there
- 22:31Speaker 1: are people who do this, And I don't like when
- 22:35Speaker 1: he calls her lonely. Don't call him in lonely. She
- 22:39Speaker 1: can make that distinction. You can't call her lonely. Yeah.
- 22:41Speaker 1: I would be offended if somebody called me lonely. Yes, Oh,
- 22:45Speaker 1: she's just this lonely woman in my apartment. Les, let's talk.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Did you see that? Okay? One is kind of a question.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Now and Cooper are. They're going to the Christmas market.
- 22:56Speaker 1: They run into his coworker. They're like making that awkward
- 22:59Speaker 1: chit chat. Yeah, and she goes, I'm cold, I'm going
- 23:02Speaker 1: to go inside. She goes inside to the outside market.
- 23:05Speaker 1: She doesn't go inside anywhere to get warm. They are
- 23:07Speaker 1: in an outdoor market. Yeah, funny, funny. I wonder if
- 23:12Speaker 1: that was supposed to be read as like I'm uncomfortable
- 23:15Speaker 1: in this making this small chit chat I'm going inside, yeah,
- 23:20Speaker 1: or if it was just not an actual indoor market. Yeah,
- 23:24Speaker 1: who knows. I don't know. The single on the twenty
- 23:26Speaker 1: fifth song tie In I guess this movie was like
- 23:30Speaker 1: based on that song, and then like we have the
- 23:32Speaker 1: artist and then the dance scene is so cute. This
- 23:35Speaker 1: is where, oh see, this is so funny because Cooper
- 23:40Speaker 1: is so stiff and awkward sometimes and then you have
- 23:43Speaker 1: this where he's like, I'm gonna go out there and
- 23:45Speaker 1: dance like to this fast paced sig. I don't read
- 23:48Speaker 1: him as stiff and awkward. You don't know, there's like
- 23:52Speaker 1: these I feel he's stiff and awkward, and then he
- 23:55Speaker 1: has these moments where he's like this loose, kind of
- 23:59Speaker 1: fun guy when he goes out on that dance floor
- 24:01Speaker 1: and he's dancing by himself and he's doing these like yeah,
- 24:04Speaker 1: it was great, it was light, and then they danced together. No,
- 24:07Speaker 1: I didn't read Cooper is stiff and awkward. The awkwardness
- 24:09Speaker 1: in this movie came from like the developing of their friendship,
- 24:13Speaker 1: which was awkward going from neighbor acquaintances to friends to
- 24:16Speaker 1: something more, and the awkwardness of those moments when he's
- 24:22Speaker 1: in the office there is a little bit of like
- 24:26Speaker 1: he and his coworker don't fully connect and we learn why.
- 24:31Speaker 1: But like when he goes up to the Santa and
- 24:33Speaker 1: He's like, you might have more luck on this than nonprofit.
- 24:35Speaker 1: I don't know. He's kind of smooth, he's kind of
- 24:37Speaker 1: a man of the people. He's close to his parents.
- 24:41Speaker 1: I don't know. I see all those things, but I
- 24:43Speaker 1: did not find him stiff and awkward my DIGITSI that's
- 24:47Speaker 1: are just some some moments. I'd like to talk about
- 24:50Speaker 1: the fortune cookie callback. I've referenced it multiple times. The
- 24:52Speaker 1: love you seek is closer than you think, and she cries,
- 24:55Speaker 1: look the setup and the payoff was worth it for me.
- 24:58Speaker 1: I like that, yep, grabbing him in the final kiss.
- 25:02Speaker 1: The kiss was hot hawt. I thought the opening scene,
- 25:08Speaker 1: Nell's walking on the city streets and she's just bombarded
- 25:11Speaker 1: with a couple. After a couple, the frustration on her face,
- 25:13Speaker 1: she kind of like wipes her hand across her face.
- 25:15Speaker 1: It was like top tier, this is too much for me.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Moment Cooper walking beside the carriage. She's going to take
- 25:21Speaker 1: her single carriage ride. Yes, I thought it was really funny.
- 25:25Speaker 1: And she hops in and they didn't just make the
- 25:28Speaker 1: choice to have her be like, why don't you come
- 25:29Speaker 1: with me? He just walks along while she's humiliated, And
- 25:34Speaker 1: again they sit in that awkwardness. I loved it. Yeah.
- 25:38Speaker 1: And finally Thomas the dude she coworker. We learned he's
- 25:42Speaker 1: a dude because he's super uncomfortable. Yeah, he's just trying
- 25:45Speaker 1: to fit in and he's doing it badly. I like
- 25:47Speaker 1: that they closed that, you know, it's not it's not
- 25:50Speaker 1: just Cooper who is can't be his real self? And yeah,
- 25:56Speaker 1: and I like that they had like hinted at because
- 25:58Speaker 1: we see Cooper check the sports scores at one and
- 26:00Speaker 1: then we learn like why he's doing that so he
- 26:02Speaker 1: can connect with his you know, they're like, I'm not
- 26:05Speaker 1: watching the game either. Yeah, let's talk about Hallmark movies
- 26:08Speaker 1: or whatever. They actually like, Well, what did you rate? Single?
- 26:13Speaker 1: On the twenty fifth? I gave it three and a
- 26:14Speaker 1: half stars. I have four and a half stars. I
- 26:17Speaker 1: really enjoyed this movie. Thank you for listening to this
- 26:20Speaker 1: episode of Girls Gone Hallmark, a Bramble Jam podcast. We'll
