- 0:00Speaker 1: And when the woman saw that she was not hid,
- 0:03Speaker 1: she came trembling and falling down before him. She declared
- 0:08Speaker 1: unto him before all the people for what cause she
- 0:11Speaker 1: had touched him and how she was healed immediately. Luke
- 0:17Speaker 1: 8.47 Jesus, you are the author of life. You are
- 0:23Speaker 1: the one that can make dead things alive again. And
- 0:27Speaker 1: with this truth, I release faith and anticipation into my day.
- 0:35Speaker 1: I believe that with my whole heart, that when life
- 0:38Speaker 1: deals me blows of disappointment, and I'm bleeding defeat from within,
- 0:45Speaker 1: that just one touch from you can change everything. When
- 0:51Speaker 1: my faith is low and my energy is drained, position me,
- 0:56Speaker 1: Holy Spirit, in the place where Jesus is, so that
- 1:00Speaker 1: I can receive my healing and restoration. I don't care
- 1:05Speaker 1: about what others are saying or about how many times
- 1:09Speaker 1: I might get knocked down. I will not stop until
- 1:14Speaker 1: I am restored and made whole. In the same way
- 1:19Speaker 1: you healed the girl, Jesus, I pronounce healing and life
- 1:23Speaker 1: to flow into every place of my life. Because you
- 1:29Speaker 1: are willing, Jesus, I realize that as I activate my
- 1:33Speaker 1: faith like Jarius, dormant dreams and dormant promises will arise
- 1:40Speaker 1: to meet my attention and affection. In Jesus' name, amen.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Thank you for making prayer a priority in your day.

- 2:13Speaker 2: THE LITTLE GIRL AND BLEEDING WOMAN In our last story,
- 2:17Speaker 2: Jesus showed his authority over wind, rain, and sea. With
- 2:22Speaker 2: a word of might, he calmed the raging storm and
- 2:25Speaker 2: saved the apostles from certain death. Once the storm had subsided,
- 2:29Speaker 2: Jesus faced a man who was plagued with a legion
- 2:32Speaker 2: of demons. The man raged and thrashed with the unholy
- 2:36Speaker 2: spirit controlling his body. Jesus calmed the man's soul just
- 2:40Speaker 2: as he did the storm. Now we see the tender
- 2:43Speaker 2: heart of Christ take care of two girls. One had
- 2:46Speaker 2: suffered from a debilitating illness. The other had tasted death itself.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Jesus showed his compassionate power by kneeling down and healing
- 2:55Speaker 2: both of them, as inspired by the Gospels.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Hello, I'm Jack Graham with today's episode of the Bible

- 3:26Speaker 3: from Stress today by visiting jackgram.org slash stress. That's jackgram.org
- 3:33Speaker 3: slash stress. In our last episode, We heard how Jesus
- 3:38Speaker 3: calmed the stormy seas and cast out a legion of
- 3:41Speaker 3: demons with nothing more than his words. He demonstrates his
- 3:46Speaker 3: powerful command over the forces of nature and the forces
- 3:49Speaker 3: of evil in this world. As the disciples witnessed his power,
- 3:53Speaker 3: their wonder and amazement grew, even though their faith remained
- 3:58Speaker 3: immature and easily shaken. Today, we'll see how the Lord
- 4:03Speaker 3: cares for a long-suffering woman and a dying girl. We
- 4:07Speaker 3: will once again hear how God's mercy, grace, and healing
- 4:10Speaker 3: truly knows no limits and is available to all without
- 4:14Speaker 3: respect for age, gender, position, or background. So let's hear
- 4:18Speaker 3: the Word of God today.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Another crowd flurried around Jesus. Their desperate cries for more
- 4:25Speaker 2: words of wisdom and acts of healing were deafening. His
- 4:28Speaker 2: popularity had stretched to the furthest reaches of Judea and Samaria.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Not a traveler passed through the land without hearing his name.
- 4:37Speaker 2: As Jesus often did, he walked beside the sea. He
- 4:40Speaker 2: enjoyed the way the water and wind amplified his voice
- 4:43Speaker 2: for all to hear. And if need be, he could
- 4:46Speaker 2: make a quick escape onto a boat if things got
- 4:49Speaker 2: out of hand. Jesus was tending to the crowd, teaching
- 4:53Speaker 2: them the ways of the kingdom. A faint yell could
- 4:55Speaker 2: be heard from the sea of faces. Jesus!
- 4:58Speaker 3: He yelled.
- 4:59Speaker 2: His head was barely poking out of the vast crowd. However,
- 5:03Speaker 2: Jesus knew his voice. It was the voice of Jairus,
- 5:07Speaker 2: one of the synagogue rulers. Jesus gestured for him to
- 5:10Speaker 2: be let through. Jairus fell at his feet, sobbing. It
- 5:13Speaker 2: was odd for the people to see a man of
- 5:15Speaker 2: such power groveling before anybody. This showed Jesus' true influence.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Jairus looked up at Jesus and said, Please, Lord, my daughter,
- 5:24Speaker 2: my little girl, is sick to the point of death.
- 5:27Speaker 2: There is no pain like a parent in fear of
- 5:29Speaker 2: losing a child. Jesus could feel its palpable presence in Jairus.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Say no more, Jesus said. Lead on, and I will
- 5:38Speaker 2: go to your daughter. So Jesus got down from the
- 5:41Speaker 2: boat where he was sitting and stepped into the crowd.
- 5:43Speaker 2: They were violently seeking his attention. His fame had caused
- 5:47Speaker 2: a great deal of chaos wherever he went. The crowd
- 5:50Speaker 2: grabbed at him and shoved him in every direction. His
- 5:53Speaker 2: disciples took it upon themselves to make a way for
- 5:56Speaker 2: Jesus and Jairus to get through, but it was an
- 5:59Speaker 2: exhausting task. As Jesus made his way through the forceful crowd,
- 6:03Speaker 2: a small and quiet presence followed him. Her hand was
- 6:06Speaker 2: small and shaking. Her once beautifully lush face was gray
- 6:10Speaker 2: and fading. A woman followed closely behind Jesus, reaching out
- 6:14Speaker 2: to touch him. Her entire body trembled as blood slowly
- 6:18Speaker 2: dripped down her inner thighs. She had had a discharge
- 6:21Speaker 2: of blood for over twelve years. The seeping blood from
- 6:24Speaker 2: her lower half caused a great deal of pain and
- 6:27Speaker 2: sapped much energy from her. Yet worst of all, it
- 6:30Speaker 2: made her unclean in Jewish tradition. She was unable to
- 6:33Speaker 2: enter the synagogues or temples. She was unable to go
- 6:36Speaker 2: to feasts and celebrations. She was unable to marry. Her
- 6:41Speaker 2: last penny was spent on physicians. They could not help her.
- 6:44Speaker 2: She was hopeless and alone, until she heard about the
- 6:48Speaker 2: man named Jesus. She could see Jesus, so close yet
- 6:53Speaker 2: so far. He was only a few feet away, but
- 6:55Speaker 2: the violent crowd was continually tugging or tossing her to
- 6:58Speaker 2: the ground. She reached for him and missed. She tried
- 7:02Speaker 2: to call out his name, but the people were too loud.
- 7:05Speaker 2: She got up to her feet and tried to run
- 7:06Speaker 2: towards him, but someone pulled her back and her face
- 7:09Speaker 2: fell into the stony ground. She thought of giving up
- 7:13Speaker 2: and just remaining on the ground. She would be trampled
- 7:16Speaker 2: and her miserable life would be ended. No, she thought
- 7:19Speaker 2: to herself. If I could just touch his garments, I
- 7:23Speaker 2: know I will be healed. She lifted herself up and
- 7:26Speaker 2: crawled towards Jesus. In one last effort, she threw herself
- 7:29Speaker 2: towards him and barely touched the hem of his garment.
- 7:32Speaker 2: She fell to her knees. Jesus stopped and turned around.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Who touched me? he asked his disciples.
- 7:40Speaker 3: They laughed.
- 7:41Speaker 2: At first they thought he was joking. Are you serious?
- 7:44Speaker 2: they asked him. Thousands of people are grabbing at you,
- 7:47Speaker 2: and you ask, who touched me? Jesus shook his head. No,
- 7:52Speaker 2: he clarified, this was different. Jesus looked around and saw
- 7:55Speaker 2: the woman kneeling on the floor, being rammed in the
- 7:58Speaker 2: head by random people in the crowd. Jesus knelt down
- 8:01Speaker 2: and touched her shoulders. My daughter, your faith has made
- 8:06Speaker 2: you well. Go and be free, Jesus said with a
- 8:10Speaker 2: warm smile. Tears streamed down the woman's face. She was speechless.
- 8:15Speaker 2: No words could quite thank Jesus properly. So she bowed
- 8:19Speaker 2: to him and left. Please, Lord, we will be too late,
- 8:23Speaker 2: Jairus begged. Jesus stood to his feet and continued to
- 8:27Speaker 2: walk forward. As they made their way out of the
- 8:30Speaker 2: main streets, the crowd began to settle. Only a few
- 8:33Speaker 2: people remained, Jesus, Jairus, and the twelve disciples. They approached
- 8:38Speaker 2: the home and a member of Jairus' family ran to them,
- 8:41Speaker 2: His face was grim. Dried tears and dirt caked his face.
- 8:46Speaker 2: She's gone, he whispered to Jairus. Do not trouble the
- 8:50Speaker 2: teacher any further. Jesus overheard the two men whispering. He
- 8:54Speaker 2: interrupted them and said, It is not so, he said.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Do not be afraid. Believe in me and watch. Jesus
- 9:02Speaker 2: gestured for Peter, James, and John to come with him
- 9:05Speaker 2: into the house. In a small courtyard, many people were
- 9:08Speaker 2: wailing and weeping on the floor. The halls echoed with
- 9:12Speaker 2: tears and mourning. It was the saddest thing Peter, James,
- 9:16Speaker 2: or John had ever witnessed. It was clear that the
- 9:19Speaker 2: little girl meant a great deal to them. Jesus walked
- 9:23Speaker 2: up to the women weeping and asked, Why is everyone
- 9:26Speaker 2: making such a commotion? The child is only sleeping. The
- 9:29Speaker 2: woman scoffed at him. His words seemed insensitive and almost evil. However,
- 9:34Speaker 2: behind Jesus' questions were a promise. He took Jairus, his wife,
- 9:40Speaker 2: and the three men with him upstairs. They entered the door,
- 9:43Speaker 2: and there lying on the bed was the girl's lifeless body.
- 9:46Speaker 2: She could not have been more than twelve. Her once
- 9:49Speaker 2: rosy cheeks were white. Jesus walked over to her body
- 9:52Speaker 2: slowly and knelt by the side of her bed. He
- 9:55Speaker 2: held her little hand in his. Jesus' eyes watered as
- 9:59Speaker 2: he held the little girl's. Death was never God's intention.
- 10:04Speaker 2: He is the author of life. Jesus kissed the little
- 10:07Speaker 2: girl's hand and said, Talitha kumi, which means little girl, arise.
- 10:16Speaker 2: The girl's chest began to rise steadily up and down.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Color was slowly returning to her face. Jesus smiled as
- 10:23Speaker 2: her beautiful brown eyes opened. She sat up, stretched, and
- 10:27Speaker 2: yawned as if she had awoken from a long nap.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Jesus laughed with joy as the others in the room
- 10:33Speaker 2: awed in amazement. The two parents rushed to their daughter's side,
- 10:37Speaker 2: kissing her and hugging her. Jairus wiped tears from his
- 10:41Speaker 2: eyes and looked up at Jesus with a face of gratitude. Jesus, Peter, James,
- 10:46Speaker 2: and John left the room so the family could be together.
- 10:49Speaker 2: As he left, he turned to one of the servants
- 10:51Speaker 2: and asked for her to bring the little girl some food.
- 10:58Speaker 3: As we begin today's reading, we find Jesus once again
- 11:01Speaker 3: surrounded by great crowds of people, each one eager to
- 11:05Speaker 3: hear his words and perhaps even witness a miraculous sign
- 11:08Speaker 3: as he heals someone from the crowd. Jesus' renown was
- 11:12Speaker 3: growing by leaps and bounds as more and more people
- 11:15Speaker 3: in the region heard what he could do. This was
- 11:18Speaker 3: certainly an annoyance, even a threat to the religious leaders.
- 11:22Speaker 3: They wanted Jesus just to go away so they could
- 11:25Speaker 3: have control and power over the people. Of course, not
- 11:28Speaker 3: all of the religious elite despised Jesus, and today we
- 11:32Speaker 3: meet one such person, a synagogue ruler by the name
- 11:35Speaker 3: of Jairus. He had gone out that day to find Jesus.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Whether out of true respect and belief or just out
- 11:42Speaker 3: of sheer desperation, we do not know. But the fact
- 11:44Speaker 3: was that his precious young daughter was in bed at home,
- 11:48Speaker 3: sick and dying. Sickness and death are really the great equalizers.
- 11:54Speaker 3: No matter what one's wealth or power or position may
- 11:57Speaker 3: be in society, when illness or the threat of death comes,
- 12:01Speaker 3: we are all the same. We are all in a
- 12:04Speaker 3: helpless state. And so Jairus did what any loving parent
- 12:09Speaker 3: would do. He sought out every last answer in order
- 12:12Speaker 3: to try to save his child. Jesus was seemingly his
- 12:17Speaker 3: last hope. So when he found him that day, he
- 12:20Speaker 3: pleaded with Jesus, not from a position of authority, but
- 12:24Speaker 3: one of deep and desperate need of help. Jesus immediately
- 12:28Speaker 3: stopped what he was doing and went with Jairus. It
- 12:31Speaker 3: is a reminder that so often in life, the interruptions
- 12:34Speaker 3: are in fact an opportunity to for ministry. As Jairus
- 12:38Speaker 3: led him and they pushed through the crowd, suddenly Jesus
- 12:41Speaker 3: stopped and asked an unusual question. Who touched me? To
- 12:45Speaker 3: all around, it seemed to be a ridiculous question. There
- 12:49Speaker 3: were people everywhere. He was being touched all the time.
- 12:53Speaker 3: But Jesus had felt something different. Power had gone out
- 12:57Speaker 3: from him in that moment. And so a woman confessed
- 13:00Speaker 3: to touching him. hoping that even just a brush against
- 13:04Speaker 3: the hem of his garment would heal her disease, a
- 13:06Speaker 3: lifelong problem with bleeding which made her unclean and unhealthy.
- 13:11Speaker 3: This tragic condition had left her destitute and alone, unable
- 13:15Speaker 3: to even enter the temple of worship to worship God
- 13:18Speaker 3: or to celebrate with her people. Jesus looked at her
- 13:22Speaker 3: with kindness and grace and told her to go home
- 13:25Speaker 3: in peace and fully healed her because of her faith.
- 13:29Speaker 3: This is a great moment in scripture which shows us
- 13:32Speaker 3: not only our Lord's caring heart and immense power, but
- 13:35Speaker 3: his ability to know when we cry out to him.
- 13:38Speaker 3: It also shows us that Jesus had both full control
- 13:41Speaker 3: and full awareness of his power. Not everyone who touched
- 13:45Speaker 3: him was healed, though certainly some in the crowd had
- 13:48Speaker 3: ailments that Jesus could have healed. But when this woman
- 13:51Speaker 3: approached him with such faith and touched him, Jesus allowed
- 13:55Speaker 3: healing power to depart from his body and to meet
- 13:57Speaker 3: her deep need of healing and restoration. It wasn't by
- 14:01Speaker 3: her might or her actions or even her touch that
- 14:04Speaker 3: she was healed, but by faith and power in Christ.
- 14:08Speaker 3: While he was still with the crowd, someone came to
- 14:11Speaker 3: inform Jairus that his daughter had passed away. There was
- 14:15Speaker 3: no need, it seemed, for Jesus to proceed to his
- 14:18Speaker 3: home because nothing could be done. But as we know,
- 14:21Speaker 3: what is impossible for man is possible with God. I
- 14:25Speaker 3: love how Jesus responds in Mark 5, 36. But overhearing
- 14:30Speaker 3: what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue,
- 14:34Speaker 3: Do not fear, only believe. Oh, that we could live
- 14:38Speaker 3: by those words. Do not fear, only believe. Jesus continued
- 14:44Speaker 3: on to the home of Jairus, taking only his three
- 14:47Speaker 3: closest disciples, Peter, James, and John. They arrived to quite
- 14:51Speaker 3: a scene. mourners already wailing and making a commotion outside
- 14:55Speaker 3: the home. He spoke calmly to them, assuring them that
- 14:59Speaker 3: the girl was not dead, only sleeping. But nobody believed,
- 15:03Speaker 3: and they laughed at his words. Jesus then entered the
- 15:07Speaker 3: home with his three disciples and the girl's parents. And
- 15:10Speaker 3: going to her bedside, he took her hand and spoke
- 15:14Speaker 3: tenderly over her. Arise, little girl. And at his command,
- 15:19Speaker 3: she shook off the chains of death and rose, fully
- 15:23Speaker 3: recovered and restored into the arms of her joyous parents.
- 15:29Speaker 3: Jesus is still speaking words to God's children today, through
- 15:32Speaker 3: the Bible, by his Spirit, calling us who are spiritually
- 15:36Speaker 3: dead to rise to a new life that only he offers,
- 15:40Speaker 3: the one who is the resurrection and the life. This
- 15:44Speaker 3: is the message, the glorious, gracious message of the good news,
- 15:48Speaker 3: the gospel. The God who healed the sick and raised
- 15:51Speaker 3: the dead, is able to heal and give life to
- 15:54Speaker 3: all who will call upon his name. The Bible says,
- 15:58Speaker 3: whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved. Lord,
- 16:02Speaker 3: we call upon your name, and we trust you as
- 16:05Speaker 3: our Lord and Savior. May we follow you all the
- 16:09Speaker 3: days of our lives, and may our hearts always be
- 16:12Speaker 3: devoted to you. Thank you for your restoration and healing
- 16:15Speaker 3: in our lives and the forgiveness of our sins. In Jesus' name, amen.
