- 0:38Speaker 4: The first time I meet teammates and coaches, Yeah, they
- 0:41Speaker 4: always like make fun of me.
- 0:42Speaker 5: I act like I'm some like redneck kill billy. But
- 0:45Speaker 5: I like it. I think it's fun. That's part of it.
- 0:47Speaker 5: It's just like a It's a.
- 0:49Speaker 4: Kind of like a joke in a sense, like I
- 0:50Speaker 4: wouldn't rock this if I was out, you know, in
- 0:52Speaker 4: a suit and tie. You know, I'm doing it because
- 0:54Speaker 4: I'm playing football. It's see, I'm playing a sport. So
- 0:57Speaker 4: this is like a fun way to.

- 1:30Speaker 2: by subscribing wherever you get your podcasts. It's the greatest
- 1:35Speaker 2: thing since Phase one renovations at pay Corp Stadium. The
- 1:40Speaker 2: new stadium lease signed last year between Hamilton County and
- 1:43Speaker 2: the Bengals started significant upgrades to pay Corp Stadium that
- 1:47Speaker 2: will span several years, and I'm impressed by how much
- 1:52Speaker 2: was done in one off season. Key improvements include transformed
- 1:57Speaker 2: club lounges and suites, renovated restrooms, upgraded concessions, are redesigned
- 2:03Speaker 2: Bengals Pro Shop and much more. Next year, Bengals fans
- 2:07Speaker 2: can look forward to a new, larger video board, the
- 2:10Speaker 2: latest technology, as well as new escalators and stadium seats.
- 2:15Speaker 2: The multi year renovation reflects the shared commitment of the
- 2:19Speaker 2: County and the Bengals to responsibly invest in pay Corpse Stadium,
- 2:24Speaker 2: ensuring that it remains a premiere NFL venue. Now time
- 2:29Speaker 2: for radio replays from Saturday's win over Chicago. It's week
- 2:34Speaker 2: two of the preseason, and after a physical joint practice
- 2:38Speaker 2: against the Chicago Bears on Thursday, the Bengals starters will
- 2:41Speaker 2: not play tonight. Instead, backups will get valuable experience and
- 2:48Speaker 2: several players will look to prove that they deserve a
- 2:51Speaker 2: spot on the fifty three man roster when the season
- 2:54Speaker 2: begins in three weeks. It's the Bengals and Bears tonight,
- 2:59Speaker 2: and it is time for the pigskin to fly here
- 3:03Speaker 2: in the jungle. So I've decided to change this portion
- 3:06Speaker 2: of the podcast. Rather than a long montage of radio
- 3:10Speaker 2: calls after each game, I'm going to recap what happened
- 3:13Speaker 2: with a few key highlights. While the Bengals rested their starters,
- 3:18Speaker 2: the Bears first stringers played one series. Caleb Williams led
- 3:22Speaker 2: the offense to a field goal, but the Bengals answered
- 3:25Speaker 2: with number three quarterback Josh Johnson driving the second string
- 3:29Speaker 2: offense to a tying field goal. It was three to
- 3:32Speaker 2: three after a quarter. The Bears took a six to
- 3:35Speaker 2: three lead early in the second, but with four and
- 3:37Speaker 2: a half minutes left in the half, the Bengals took
- 3:40Speaker 2: the lead for the first time. Johnson in the gun
- 3:43Speaker 2: from the Bears. Seventeen shotgun snap pressure, coming pass for
- 3:47Speaker 2: the end zone, Colby Young over the shoulder catch, touchdown.
- 3:52Speaker 6: Bengals.
- 3:54Speaker 7: Josh Johnson. We have a dime two rookie receiver Colby
- 3:59Speaker 7: Young for the skull.
- 4:00Speaker 6: It was Dan. It was a beautiful throw over that
- 4:02Speaker 6: inside shoulder, very easily caught, very smooth by Colby and
- 4:08Speaker 6: that's a that's a big play right there.
- 4:11Speaker 2: That made it ten to six Cincinnati. The offense got
- 4:15Speaker 2: the ball back with one twenty one left in the
- 4:17Speaker 2: half and Josh Johnson struck again. Johnson waits for a
- 4:21Speaker 2: shotgun snap after eleven Toads.
- 4:23Speaker 7: Brooks lines up to his left. Johnson throws slams caught touchdown.
- 4:29Speaker 7: Tanner Hudson, who spins the ball in the back of
- 4:32Speaker 7: the end zone and his teammates gather around the football
- 4:36Speaker 7: and it looked like they were keeping their hands warm
- 4:39Speaker 7: right around a campfire.
- 4:41Speaker 6: Exactly all you need is marshmallows, toasted marshmallows and make
- 4:46Speaker 6: some smores.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Johnson played the first half and threw for one hundred
- 4:49Speaker 2: and fifty six yards and two touchdowns. I talked to
- 4:52Speaker 2: him after the game. Two touchdown passes for Bengals quarterback
- 4:57Speaker 2: Josh Johnson helping the Bengals eat the shi Icago Bears tonight.
- 5:01Speaker 2: When you started the game, Josh, they had their starters
- 5:04Speaker 2: out on the field on offensive defense. You were out
- 5:07Speaker 2: there with a second string offensive line, obviously didn't have Jamar,
- 5:11Speaker 2: didn't have Chase Brown, didn't have Tea. What did it
- 5:14Speaker 2: mean to that group to go out there against their
- 5:17Speaker 2: ones and get the job done and go down the
- 5:19Speaker 2: field and score.
- 5:21Speaker 1: I think it means a lot, just you know, it's
- 5:23Speaker 1: a confidence booster to know that if you know you
- 5:26Speaker 1: trust your training, you know you trust your preparation, you
- 5:29Speaker 1: know you trust and everybody's on the same page. You
- 5:32Speaker 1: know you can go out there and get some things done.
- 5:33Speaker 1: We want to finish the drive, actually can get a touchdown.
- 5:36Speaker 1: But it's great to go down there and put a
- 5:38Speaker 1: good draw together and respond to their field goals.
- 5:40Speaker 2: You're had great numbers tonight by my count. I think
- 5:43Speaker 2: this was your forty fifth preseason game in your career.
- 5:47Speaker 2: How much joy do you get at this point to
- 5:49Speaker 2: go out there and deal the way you did tonight.
- 5:51Speaker 1: That's a lot of joy. It's a joy, just an
- 5:53Speaker 1: opportunity to go out there and play this game.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Man.
- 5:55Speaker 8: I never take that for granted.
- 5:57Speaker 1: That's all I focus on when I'm praying every all
- 5:59Speaker 1: day prior to the game. Just make sure my heart
- 6:01Speaker 1: in the right place and play some gratitude. It's just
- 6:04Speaker 1: a blessing to be able to play a kids game
- 6:05Speaker 1: at forty years old and done it the way you
- 6:08Speaker 1: know that my journey has been, so I don't take
- 6:10Speaker 1: it for granted, and I'm glad you had to see
- 6:13Speaker 1: that when I go out there and play them out
- 6:14Speaker 1: of joy, because that's that's why I want to.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Showcase for visiting with Josh Johnson. It is such an
- 6:19Speaker 2: unusual quarterback room. What's this camp been like with Joe Burrow,
- 6:24Speaker 2: Joe Flacco, yourself, with all the experience you guys have,
- 6:28Speaker 2: hand Sean Clifford.
- 6:30Speaker 1: It's great because you're surrounded about greatness. Man, Joe Burrows great,
- 6:34Speaker 1: black O's great. You know, Sean is up and coming
- 6:36Speaker 1: young quarterback, you know what I mean, He's the smartest.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Hell's going to stay and we naturally all push each
- 6:41Speaker 1: other because the way our play style is, you know
- 6:43Speaker 1: what I mean, it's a great, healthy competition for me.
- 6:47Speaker 1: I'm enjoying it because you know, it's always ways that
- 6:49Speaker 1: you can expand your game, and you know, the challenges
- 6:52Speaker 1: that come with training can be in the third fourth
- 6:53Speaker 1: quarterback is there. But you know, we just try to
- 6:55Speaker 1: focus on what we can do and today we got
- 6:57Speaker 1: the opportunity to go out there and we're glad we're
- 6:58Speaker 1: to make it, make the best out.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Of Let me ask you about two rookie receivers. You
- 7:02Speaker 2: threw the ball several times to Dante Myers on the
- 7:05Speaker 2: opening drive. Your first touchdown pass went to Kolby Young,
- 7:08Speaker 2: one of those two young guys shown you.
- 7:10Speaker 1: They just keep getting they just keep making plays, and
- 7:13Speaker 1: now they're starting to be consistent, you know, and they
- 7:15Speaker 1: have its, you know, lining up right, being in the
- 7:18Speaker 1: right spots, being on time. You know, your treasure's continues
- 7:21Speaker 1: that grows because you know they're gonna do what they're
- 7:23Speaker 1: supposed to do and the rest is up to them. Man,
- 7:25Speaker 1: God bless those kids with a lot of odd kids
- 7:27Speaker 1: are rest those guys with a lot of ability, and
- 7:30Speaker 1: they're going out there and they're showing it on product
- 7:32Speaker 1: and I'm having going.
- 7:33Speaker 2: You played in the NFC Championship game for the forty
- 7:36Speaker 2: nine ers a few years ago. You know what a
- 7:38Speaker 2: championship caliber team looks like.
- 7:42Speaker 3: Does this look like one?
- 7:43Speaker 1: Yeah, we had in the right direction. I understand it's
- 7:46Speaker 1: a long season, and I understand the process is about
- 7:48Speaker 1: what you do every day. And now what we're doing
- 7:50Speaker 1: right now is we're focused on the moment and we're
- 7:52Speaker 1: checking the boxes in the moment. And with every team
- 7:54Speaker 1: I've been around that does that over time, it works
- 7:57Speaker 1: out of your favorite So you know, I think we
- 7:59Speaker 1: got to stay in the moment. He keep taking it
- 8:01Speaker 1: one day at a time and everything that sport us.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Will be there for us.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Two touchdown passes in the final five minutes of the half,
- 8:08Speaker 2: still getting it done at age forty.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Congratulations.
- 8:11Speaker 1: God is good, man, God is good.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Gratefully, He's grateful.
- 8:15Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 8:16Speaker 2: With the Bengals up seventeen to nine at the half,
- 8:19Speaker 2: Sean Clifford took over at quarterback and on the opening
- 8:22Speaker 2: drive of the third quarter, he led the team on
- 8:24Speaker 2: a seventy yard touchdown drive by throwing for all seventy yards.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Clifford will drop back to throw again short drop. He's
- 8:32Speaker 2: gonna float it for the end zone.
- 8:33Speaker 7: Noah Thomas reaches out and makes the catch him the
- 8:37Speaker 7: back right corner touchdown. Bengals has the undrafted rookie out
- 8:43Speaker 7: of Georgia, Noah Thomas Paul's in the touchdown strike from
- 8:48Speaker 7: Sean Clifford.
- 8:49Speaker 2: The Bengals added three more points on a fifty eight
- 8:51Speaker 2: yard field goal by Evan McPherson, and the defense did
- 8:55Speaker 2: not give up a touchdown all night. The Bengals didn't
- 8:58Speaker 2: force any turnover, but did have a couple of sacks.
- 9:03Speaker 7: Rookie quarterback Miller Moss in the gun, catches the shotgun snap,
- 9:07Speaker 7: fades back five steps hunder pressure and dumped land and
- 9:11Speaker 7: Robinson with a sack. He had a half sack last week.
- 9:16Speaker 7: He's got a whole sack tonight, and he does the
- 9:19Speaker 7: naval salute after bringing down Moss.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Landon Robinson also split a sack with Isaiah Foski. Here's
- 9:26Speaker 2: my conversation with a seventh round draft pick out of Navy.
- 9:31Speaker 2: I haven't seen official stats, but I believe Landon Robinson
- 9:34Speaker 2: had a sack and a half after having a half
- 9:37Speaker 2: sack in the first preseason game. How'd you feel about
- 9:39Speaker 2: the way you played tonight?
- 9:40Speaker 3: I feel like I played pretty decent. I think there's
- 9:42Speaker 3: always no for improvement.
- 9:43Speaker 9: And as you continue to you know, get more reps
- 9:45Speaker 9: out there and you continue to get comfortable, you just
- 9:47Speaker 9: get better and better every day and that's the goal.
- 9:49Speaker 9: So I'm just trying to get better every day and
- 9:50Speaker 9: just keep getting more sacks. So not too bad.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Did I see a naval salute as your sack celebration.
- 9:56Speaker 3: This, sir?
- 9:57Speaker 9: You know, I always try and you know, you represent
- 9:59Speaker 9: the military and so fast while I'm out here, So
- 10:01Speaker 9: that was salute. I think that's gonna be my little
- 10:03Speaker 9: celebration from now on.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Land And last, let me ask you about the opening
- 10:07Speaker 2: drive of the game.
- 10:07Speaker 7: They had their starters out there.
- 10:09Speaker 2: They did move the ball, but you kept them out
- 10:11Speaker 2: of the end zone held them to a field goal.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Did that seem like a big deal since the Bengals
- 10:17Speaker 2: did not have starters out there.
- 10:19Speaker 9: I think it was a great You know, being able
- 10:21Speaker 9: to go out there versus the ones is amazing and
- 10:23Speaker 9: being able, like I said, get better every single day
- 10:25Speaker 9: and getting those repetitions. So what's better than getting those
- 10:27Speaker 9: reps versus the ones? So being able to hold into
- 10:29Speaker 9: just a field goal is pretty good.
- 10:31Speaker 2: And no touchdowns scored in the game for Chicago, I
- 10:34Speaker 2: assume that's, you know, a big point of pride.
- 10:37Speaker 3: That's a great stat.
- 10:37Speaker 9: Absolutely, that's something that you drive for every single game
- 10:39Speaker 9: and hopefully we can keep that up.
- 10:41Speaker 2: What's this preseason experience been like for you, the son
- 10:45Speaker 2: of a Bengals fan growing up in the Akron area, It's.
- 10:48Speaker 9: Been great, you know, being able to come out every
- 10:50Speaker 9: single day and just try and get better. I tell
- 10:52Speaker 9: bj tell Decks all the time that you know, I
- 10:54Speaker 9: want to be great one day, and just just continuing
- 10:56Speaker 9: to work every single day is how you continue.
- 10:58Speaker 3: To get better. So I'm excited to just keep.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Working on one of your tackles. You showed what I
- 11:03Speaker 2: thought was like this incredible effort. I mean you just
- 11:06Speaker 2: kept grinding until you could get the guy on the ground.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Is that Do you consider that to be a hallmark
- 11:11Speaker 2: of your play?
- 11:12Speaker 3: Absolutely? At the Naval CAADAM we call it elite eat.
- 11:14Speaker 9: You know, effort, attitude, and toughness, and that's something that
- 11:16Speaker 9: I try and show every single play and every single game,
- 11:19Speaker 9: even if you know I'm dead tired.
- 11:20Speaker 3: So every single snap by trying to get my all.
- 11:23Speaker 2: You guys had a joint practice against these guys two
- 11:25Speaker 2: days ago.
- 11:27Speaker 7: I thought you won that.
- 11:28Speaker 2: I mean, there was no scoreboard, but I thought the
- 11:30Speaker 2: Bengals came out on top. Obviously they won the game tonight.
- 11:33Speaker 2: That's a productive period of three days against the team
- 11:35Speaker 2: that won eleven games in a playoff game last year.
- 11:38Speaker 3: That's your goal.
- 11:38Speaker 9: That's the goal every single day, every single opponent that
- 11:41Speaker 9: would go against we give it our all and we
- 11:42Speaker 9: try and go.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Out and win. So I'm glad that it's perceived that way.
- 11:45Speaker 7: Congrats on the sack and a half and the win.
- 11:47Speaker 3: Thank you so much, sir. I appreciate your time.
- 11:50Speaker 2: The final score twenty seven to nine. The Bengals are
- 11:53Speaker 2: two to zero, and we'll finish the preseason with a
- 11:56Speaker 2: winning record for the first time since twenty eighteen. For
- 12:00Speaker 2: the second straight week, Wide receiver Dante Myers was one
- 12:04Speaker 2: of the biggest standouts. He had five catches for forty
- 12:07Speaker 2: one yards, ran a Jets sweep for nine, returned two
- 12:11Speaker 2: punts for thirty four, including a twenty five yarder, and
- 12:15Speaker 2: returned two kickoffs for fifty four. Ten touches in all
- 12:19Speaker 2: for a total of one hundred and thirty eight yards.
- 12:22Speaker 2: As myer's done enough to make the team. I'll discuss
- 12:26Speaker 2: that with Tony Pike in just a bit, but first,
- 12:29Speaker 2: here's Zach Taylor after the win. Zach, you started the
- 12:33Speaker 2: game with year twos versus their ones. Your defense held
- 12:38Speaker 2: Caleb Williams and that high powered offense to a field goal.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Josh Johnson led your offense right down the field to
- 12:44Speaker 2: a field goal. How big of a deal was that?
- 12:46Speaker 2: I was really pleased.
- 12:47Speaker 8: I thought these guys were on it, converted some big
- 12:52Speaker 8: third down for us, got some stops on third down.
- 12:55Speaker 8: So really, overall, please with how we started, Please with
- 12:59Speaker 8: how we started the second half. I thought it came
- 13:00Speaker 8: out really strong in the second half as well, So
- 13:03Speaker 8: it was an overall good win for our team. I
- 13:05Speaker 8: thought everybody performed well. I thought we tackled well. I
- 13:07Speaker 8: thought we blocked well in the pass protection and executed
- 13:10Speaker 8: really well in special teams.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Last week, he gave up a touchdown with less than
- 13:15Speaker 2: two minutes to go. Tonight, no touchdowns. The defense is
- 13:20Speaker 2: playing really well for the two preseason games they are.
- 13:22Speaker 8: I think there's a great cohesion on that side of
- 13:24Speaker 8: the ball, a lot of clarity with what the expectations
- 13:27Speaker 8: are for him, and they're executing what Al gives to them.
- 13:30Speaker 8: I think they're leverage of the ball really well and
- 13:31Speaker 8: getting the ball carrier on the ground, taking away a
- 13:34Speaker 8: lot of deep shots, forcing it underneath, making the tackle,
- 13:37Speaker 8: making the offense really go the length of the field
- 13:39Speaker 8: to be able to score. So overall, I was really
- 13:42Speaker 8: pleased with what they've done these last two weeks.
- 13:44Speaker 2: Josh Johnson is an unusual number three quarterback guys in
- 13:48Speaker 2: his nineteenth year of pro football. I think this was
- 13:51Speaker 2: his forty fifth preseason game. What has he added to
- 13:54Speaker 2: the mix behind Joe and Joe.
- 13:57Speaker 8: Well, there's just so much experience there, and so he
- 13:59Speaker 8: gets out there. It's a very calm operation. I think
- 14:03Speaker 8: our guys have a lot of confidence when he's in
- 14:04Speaker 8: the huddle that he's gonna make some plays. They can
- 14:06Speaker 8: make plays with his feet. He called his own read
- 14:08Speaker 8: form tonight. I thought he executed really well on third down.
- 14:11Speaker 8: He blitzed his some and he got us to the
- 14:13Speaker 8: right checks. And then I thought Sean came in after
- 14:15Speaker 8: that and really did the same thing. So really pleased
- 14:18Speaker 8: with the job bradszone with that room and how well
- 14:21Speaker 8: those guy's executed.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Dante Myers had ten touches for more than one hundred
- 14:25Speaker 2: yards in this game. He was signed in January. You
- 14:28Speaker 2: had him in the offseason program. At what point did
- 14:31Speaker 2: you think we might have something here?
- 14:33Speaker 8: He showed a lot of quickness. I think in the
- 14:35Speaker 8: offseason program caught our eye initially, and then he's just
- 14:38Speaker 8: continued to build on that, find find roles for himself,
- 14:41Speaker 8: and he's found himself in a really good competition in
- 14:43Speaker 8: the receiver room, and so we'll see how it shakes out.
- 14:45Speaker 8: But he's done well for himself. Obviously.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Landon Robinson had a sack and a half. Shows his
- 14:51Speaker 2: relentless style whenever he's out on the field. What is
- 14:54Speaker 2: he demonstrating so far?
- 14:55Speaker 8: Well, you're really cool. He's got quickness at the defensive
- 14:58Speaker 8: attacking position, so closes space quick on the quarterback. On
- 15:01Speaker 8: the sack, we didn't have a chance to get away
- 15:03Speaker 8: from him. So again, just I think the consistency in
- 15:06Speaker 8: the effort really shows up. He's been able to make
- 15:10Speaker 8: some place for us last two weeks.
- 15:12Speaker 2: How good were the last three days? I thought that
- 15:15Speaker 2: you came out on top. There was no scoreboard on Thursday,
- 15:17Speaker 2: but you finished that joint practice really strong and then
- 15:20Speaker 2: obviously won the game tonight. How good were these two
- 15:23Speaker 2: days of activity against a good team?
- 15:24Speaker 3: It was good.
- 15:25Speaker 8: It certainly there was a lot to clean up on Thursday.
- 15:27Speaker 8: It was good to see, you know, some of the
- 15:30Speaker 8: some of the errors we made and some of the
- 15:31Speaker 8: fundamental things that we have to improve on. I think
- 15:34Speaker 8: it was good for our guys. I have to see
- 15:35Speaker 8: that midway through training camp. But we got really good work.
- 15:38Speaker 8: I thought we gained some confidence coming out of there
- 15:41Speaker 8: and then and then probably some more tonight with the
- 15:43Speaker 8: way that these guys played.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Did you think of the play of your offensive lineman tonight?
- 15:47Speaker 8: I thought they passed protected really well. I think we
- 15:49Speaker 8: got to be better in the run game. There's some situations.
- 15:52Speaker 8: We got a holding call in a second one that
- 15:54Speaker 8: can't happen. There was, you know, probably a little more
- 15:57Speaker 8: meat on the bone that we needed to find a
- 15:59Speaker 8: way to create the run game. But I thought they
- 16:01Speaker 8: gave the quarterbacks time.
- 16:04Speaker 2: This result does not go on the Taylor Brothers Trophy,
- 16:07Speaker 2: correct because it's a preseason game.
- 16:09Speaker 8: I might have to try to forcing the dedendum there,
- 16:12Speaker 8: you know, I don't even know where we stand right now.
- 16:14Speaker 8: I've kind of lost track. We played so many games
- 16:15Speaker 8: against him. But yeah, well I'll see if I can
- 16:18Speaker 8: slip one of the commission and see if he can
- 16:20Speaker 8: put it on that.
- 16:21Speaker 2: If nothing else, fun bragging rights with your younger brother, Press.
- 16:25Speaker 8: I know I'm one to zero against some of the
- 16:26Speaker 8: preseason here, so that's really all that matters.
- 16:28Speaker 7: Congrats on the win and good performance.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 16:31Speaker 2: The starters didn't play, but everybody else got opportunities. Nine
- 16:35Speaker 2: players carried the ball, twelve caught passes, and twenty made tackles.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Now time for postgame analysis from former NFL quarterback Tony Pike.
- 16:47Speaker 2: All right, Tony, the Bengals two and oh after a
- 16:49Speaker 2: twenty seven to nine win over the Chicago Bears. You
- 16:52Speaker 2: were on the sideline tonight. Give us a sense of
- 16:54Speaker 2: what it was like down there.
- 16:56Speaker 10: Intense. I mean, essentially the same team we've seen every
- 17:00Speaker 10: day of training camp. They're focused, they're intense. The attention
- 17:03Speaker 10: to detail, I think it's so hard to put into
- 17:06Speaker 10: words what's being done in a preseason game like this.
- 17:10Speaker 10: Second and third and even four string guys are playing,
- 17:12Speaker 10: and yet not many alignment issues they're motioning, they're running
- 17:16Speaker 10: different formations. Defensively, you don't see a ton of mistackles
- 17:19Speaker 10: out there. Everyone seems to be confident in what they're doing.
- 17:23Speaker 10: The camaraderie between the veterans who weren't even dressed to
- 17:26Speaker 10: play tonight but locked in on each and every play call,
- 17:30Speaker 10: it's just unique for a sideline setting. You don't see
- 17:33Speaker 10: that everywhere, and I think it's something special they have.
- 17:36Speaker 2: I thought it was big at the beginning of this
- 17:38Speaker 2: game that the Bengals twos kept up with the Bears ones.
- 17:43Speaker 2: So Caleb Williams started, he did drive down the field,
- 17:46Speaker 2: but they held him to a field goal. Then Josh
- 17:48Speaker 2: Johnson and the offense goes out there with all backups
- 17:50Speaker 2: against the Bears starters and drives down the field and scores.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:54Speaker 10: Defense, they bent a little bit, but they didn't break.
- 17:56Speaker 10: They got the ten yard penalty on the holding. And
- 17:58Speaker 10: what I liked most with the twos Al Golden on
- 18:01Speaker 10: the two of the next three snaps brought pressure. So
- 18:04Speaker 10: he wasn't just gonna sit back with the second group.
- 18:06Speaker 10: He wanted to dial some things up and see what
- 18:07Speaker 10: they could do to get home. That made Kayleb Williams uncomfortable.
- 18:10Speaker 10: Eventually it forces a field goal. Offensively, you can't say
- 18:14Speaker 10: enough good things about Josh Johnson and the way he
- 18:17Speaker 10: commanded the offense the first drive, especially getting in and
- 18:21Speaker 10: out of checks, cover zero pressures, finding Dante Meyers, finding
- 18:25Speaker 10: Colby Young, spreading it out to so many different receivers.
- 18:29Speaker 10: The old line was picking up pressures. The running backs
- 18:31Speaker 10: ran hard and also caught the ball out of the backfield.
- 18:33Speaker 3: It was.
- 18:34Speaker 10: It was complete from start to finish. And those reps,
- 18:37Speaker 10: which you can now go back and study the tape
- 18:39Speaker 10: of and make the corrections, those are imperative for these
- 18:41Speaker 10: young guys.
- 18:43Speaker 2: I don't know that there's ever been a number three
- 18:45Speaker 2: quarterback like Josh Johnson, forty years old, nineteen years of
- 18:49Speaker 2: pro football, and he was dealing in this game fifteen
- 18:52Speaker 2: for twenty three, one hundred and fifty six yards, two touchdowns,
- 18:55Speaker 2: passer rating of one to thirteen point seven. What's it
- 18:58Speaker 2: mean to have that guy backing up Joe Burrow and
- 19:01Speaker 2: Joe Flacco.
- 19:02Speaker 10: It's everything off the field, the mental reps. Think about
- 19:07Speaker 10: Joe Burrow in a film room throwing stuff off Joe
- 19:10Speaker 10: Flacco and Josh Johnson. They've seen everything. They can give
- 19:14Speaker 10: insights to what they see. To Joe Burrow, they can
- 19:17Speaker 10: do that in between series. But what I was taken
- 19:20Speaker 10: back by was Josh Johnson on the field. He's seen everything,
- 19:24Speaker 10: but he's getting them into the right plays. He threw
- 19:26Speaker 10: two touchdowns tonight in a preseason game at forty years old,
- 19:30Speaker 10: and celebrate it like it was the first two touchdown
- 19:33Speaker 10: passes he's ever thrown. His love and passion for the
- 19:36Speaker 10: game is incredible, and that's something I didn't expect to see.
- 19:40Speaker 10: You know, that preseason game. He's done a thousand of
- 19:43Speaker 10: these already. It's like it's the first time he's ever
- 19:46Speaker 10: been out there. His love for the games incredible.
- 19:49Speaker 2: How does that quarterback room of Burrow, Flacco, Johnson, and
- 19:53Speaker 2: Sean Clifford compared to the quarterback room that you were
- 19:56Speaker 2: part of with the Carolina Panthers.
- 19:58Speaker 10: Oh well, I mean not more Jimmy Claws and Hunter
- 20:03Speaker 10: can't Well, I would say, you know, one A, one
- 20:07Speaker 10: B probably we would take the one B. Now we
- 20:10Speaker 10: can take Cam Newton. My second year, we raised the
- 20:12Speaker 10: bar a little bit. But like I said, and it's
- 20:16Speaker 10: not a Jake Browning or Brandon Allen slight. Joe Burrow's
- 20:20Speaker 10: not really had that in the meeting rooms as a
- 20:23Speaker 10: as a quarterback who was once the young guy. That's
- 20:27Speaker 10: there's no price tag you can put on on what
- 20:30Speaker 10: that means to have guys like that around you.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Last year, in the second preseason game, Mitch Tinsley made
- 20:36Speaker 2: the team. He made two spectacular touchdown catches against Washington
- 20:40Speaker 2: and then did not play in the final preseason game.
- 20:43Speaker 2: It was obvious he had made it.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Tonight.
- 20:46Speaker 7: Dante Myers had ten total touches receiving jet sweep, punt returns,
- 20:53Speaker 7: kickoff returns, had more than one hundred you know, total
- 20:56Speaker 7: yards between all of that. Has he made the team?
- 20:58Speaker 10: I think so. I mean there's a difference in in
- 21:02Speaker 10: gaining a spot or taking a spot, and he's taking it.
- 21:06Speaker 10: I mean, you look at where these quarterbacks turn when
- 21:09Speaker 10: Joe Flacco and Josh Johnson have been in there, they
- 21:12Speaker 10: find Dante Myers in third down situations. He wins with separation.
- 21:16Speaker 10: He doesn't have the height, he doesn't have the huge
- 21:18Speaker 10: catch radius. He's got to win with route running and
- 21:20Speaker 10: he's got to win with separation on his routes. He
- 21:22Speaker 10: does that, and when he catches it. He's north and south.
- 21:25Speaker 10: He's not dancing around. They utilize him in the jet
- 21:28Speaker 10: suite and that's a part of his game that he
- 21:31Speaker 10: can kind of expand on. And then the special team's
- 21:34Speaker 10: part of it. It's it's almost untapped for him. He
- 21:36Speaker 10: didn't do it a ton in the CFL. He's learning
- 21:39Speaker 10: that and he still looks exceptional at that. I think
- 21:42Speaker 10: he makes this roster.
- 21:44Speaker 2: I'm eager to see Landon Robinson against top notch offensive lineman.
- 21:52Speaker 2: He's mostly played against backups in the two preseason games,
- 21:55Speaker 2: but he's been terrific and he had a sack and
- 21:57Speaker 2: a half tonight. Are you do you have similar feelings
- 22:01Speaker 2: about the desire to see him compete against one.
- 22:03Speaker 3: I'd love to.
- 22:04Speaker 10: You know, he's the guy you hate to play against
- 22:08Speaker 10: because from snap one to snap one hundred, his motor
- 22:11Speaker 10: is the same. He never fatigues, never tires. He's relentless
- 22:14Speaker 10: in his pursuit of the quarterback. There are multiple plays
- 22:17Speaker 10: as well that he made by just taking up multiple
- 22:20Speaker 10: defenders or getting penetration that the running back would have
- 22:23Speaker 10: to cut. Someone else comes in and gets the tackle.
- 22:26Speaker 10: But he's getting those wins and allowing that linebacking corps
- 22:29Speaker 10: to play fast. I think he's gotten better each time
- 22:32Speaker 10: we've seen him. And like I said, you could turn
- 22:35Speaker 10: on the film and shuffle the plays and you wouldn't
- 22:38Speaker 10: be able to tell what part of the game it was,
- 22:39Speaker 10: because his motor and his passion for football shows every
- 22:43Speaker 10: time he's out there.
- 22:45Speaker 2: This is a good three game stretch or three day stretch,
- 22:47Speaker 2: I should say the joint practice we give it to
- 22:50Speaker 2: the Bengals, you know, by a decision, not a knockout,
- 22:52Speaker 2: but by a decision and then obviously a pretty lopsided
- 22:55Speaker 2: final score in the actual game. That's a good team
- 22:59Speaker 2: to come out on twice.
- 23:01Speaker 10: One of the terms I feel like we hear a
- 23:02Speaker 10: lot at camp is stacking days. I feel like the
- 23:05Speaker 10: Bengals have stacked a lot of good ones. And that's
- 23:07Speaker 10: also you take the Tuesday practice, the ones we're in
- 23:09Speaker 10: thirty eight plays.
- 23:10Speaker 3: And eleven on eleven.
- 23:11Speaker 10: So they got some good work Tuesday Thursday with some
- 23:14Speaker 10: of the best work I've seen since covering training camp
- 23:17Speaker 10: in any capacity. And I thought the defensive line on
- 23:20Speaker 10: Thursday was probably one of the more impressive groups that
- 23:22Speaker 10: I've ever seen at a Bengals training camp. And the
- 23:25Speaker 10: havoc that they caused. I wonder if that's why Caleb
- 23:28Speaker 10: Williams had to come out and play a series tonight,
- 23:29Speaker 10: just because they didn't get all their work done on Thursday.
- 23:32Speaker 10: But you talk about the week and so much was
- 23:35Speaker 10: made of it. They've checked all the boxes so far
- 23:38Speaker 10: in the preseason. They've got one more to go, a
- 23:41Speaker 10: road trip to Philly, and then the regular season is here.
- 23:43Speaker 10: But they have won. They've won individual days, and they've
- 23:46Speaker 10: stacked them on top of each other.
- 23:48Speaker 2: That was a really interesting point about Caleb Williams because
- 23:51Speaker 2: his day on Thursday ended sack sack interception. This might
- 23:55Speaker 2: have been you know what, let's have them go out
- 23:57Speaker 2: there and at least not carry that burden for another well.
- 24:00Speaker 10: Eleven on eleven's and we've seen this with the Bengals
- 24:03Speaker 10: offense as well. You don't get to get in all
- 24:05Speaker 10: the work you want to get in eleven on eleven
- 24:07Speaker 10: because that defensive front is disrupting so many things. So
- 24:10Speaker 10: for Ben Johnson, all the bells and whistles couldn't block
- 24:13Speaker 10: the guys up front and a lot of the eleven
- 24:15Speaker 10: on eleven. So go out there tonight, see some good
- 24:17Speaker 10: things happen before you leave Cincinnati. I think that was
- 24:20Speaker 10: a reason why. But this this Bengals defensive front, their
- 24:24Speaker 10: defense as a whole, there could be some tough decisions
- 24:27Speaker 10: to make when roster cutdowns happen.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Final thing, it's amazing to me that a fifty eight
- 24:32Speaker 2: yard field goal by Evan McPherson is now completely ho hum.
- 24:36Speaker 2: I barely raised my voice in describing a fifty eight
- 24:40Speaker 2: yard field goal.
- 24:41Speaker 10: It's almost how the sidelines take it as well. It's
- 24:43Speaker 10: almost like it's expected now, and that's probably good from
- 24:46Speaker 10: sixty six sixty seven with how he hit that ball tonight.
- 24:49Speaker 10: But it's not like it's sneaking in either. You put
- 24:51Speaker 10: a line right down the middle, he'd hit the line.
- 24:54Speaker 10: He's been locked in. It's it's not every day we
- 24:57Speaker 10: talk about the specialist in training camp, especially when there's
- 24:59Speaker 10: not a battle. He's been awesome, and it's it's almost
- 25:03Speaker 10: as you take for granted how good he's been and
- 25:05Speaker 10: how automatic he is.
- 25:07Speaker 2: The Bengals are two and zero since Tony Pike became
- 25:10Speaker 2: part of the radio broadcast crew. Let's keep it rolling
- 25:12Speaker 2: next week in Philly, where I'm sure you will have
- 25:14Speaker 2: at least one cheese steak.
- 25:16Speaker 3: I can't wait.
- 25:17Speaker 10: We stop at the airport, we go right right by.
- 25:20Speaker 3: Can't wait.
- 25:20Speaker 5: We'll see how this.
- 25:21Speaker 3: Works on the road.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Little inside joke there, Tony loves the cheese steak at
- 25:25Speaker 2: the airport Marriott in Philly. All right, then'll wrap it up.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Bengals win it twenty seven to nine. Friday's game in
- 25:33Speaker 2: Philly starts at eight and will be nationally televised by CBS.
- 25:39Speaker 2: The Bengals Booth podcast is brought to you by pay Corps,
- 25:41Speaker 2: proud to be the Bengals official hr software provider, by
- 25:45Speaker 2: Alta Fiber future proof fiber Internet designed to elevate your home,
- 25:49Speaker 2: business and community to a new level, and by Kettering
- 25:53Speaker 2: Health the best care for the best fans. Kettering Health
- 25:56Speaker 2: is the official healthcare provider of the Bengals. One of
- 26:00Speaker 2: the players who has quietly had a very good training camp,
- 26:03Speaker 2: in my opinion, is the man with the NFL's best
- 26:07Speaker 2: mullet backup center, Jacob Bear. His last name is spelled
- 26:12Speaker 2: b a yeer, but he pronounces it bear like the animal.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Jacob is the subject of this week's fun Facts Conversation,
- 26:20Speaker 2: where you get to know the person under the pads
- 26:24Speaker 2: time for some fun facts with offensive lineman Jacob Bear,
- 26:27Speaker 2: who I believe has the NFL's best mullet. More on
- 26:30Speaker 2: that later, but let's discuss your background. You are from Grandview, Texas,
- 26:34Speaker 2: about a half an hour from Fort Worth. Tell us
- 26:37Speaker 2: something that Grandview is known for.
- 26:40Speaker 4: I'd say the biggest saying is our high school mascot
- 26:42Speaker 4: where the Zebras, which isn't the most common, and kind
- 26:45Speaker 4: of get some laughs when I tell the other guys,
- 26:48Speaker 4: and that's pretty.
- 26:49Speaker 2: Much Yet, Well, the Zebras won a couple of state
- 26:52Speaker 2: championships while you were playing for the football team, and
- 26:54Speaker 2: you were also one of the top powerlifters in the
- 26:57Speaker 2: state of Texas. Did you get strong lifting weights or
- 27:01Speaker 2: did it start before that.
- 27:02Speaker 4: I'd say it started young, but it was because of
- 27:05Speaker 4: listing weights. I made it a big emphasis. My family
- 27:09Speaker 4: was like a bunch of high school athletes and my
- 27:11Speaker 4: dad was really big into weightlifting. So I got on
- 27:13Speaker 4: it early and then kind of just fell in love.
- 27:16Speaker 4: And I think that's what got me so far in football.
- 27:19Speaker 4: You know, It's just I get to be stronger than
- 27:21Speaker 4: everyone else, and then the skill in the hands and
- 27:24Speaker 4: the feet caught up after a while.
- 27:26Speaker 7: How early did you start?
- 27:29Speaker 4: Sixth grade as the most guys start, and then once
- 27:32Speaker 4: junior high hit, it was like it was full go.
- 27:35Speaker 5: I fell in love.
- 27:36Speaker 2: So in addition to the strength, you must have been
- 27:38Speaker 2: a good student, because I read that you had IVY
- 27:41Speaker 2: League offers coming out of high school.
- 27:42Speaker 7: How good of a student were you?
- 27:43Speaker 4: I graduated top ten, which was good, and then even
- 27:48Speaker 4: in college I graduated kum laude.
- 27:49Speaker 5: It was a big, big emphasis it's gonna good grades because.
- 27:53Speaker 4: If I wasn't, if I couldn't fall back on football
- 27:56Speaker 4: to get in, I would fall back on my grades.
- 27:59Speaker 4: So it very seriously and it was something that was
- 28:01Speaker 4: kind of showing to me at a young age, like
- 28:04Speaker 4: you know, there's no there's no half doers in the family.
- 28:08Speaker 4: Like you're either gonna do it or you're gonna kind
- 28:10Speaker 4: of get out.
- 28:11Speaker 2: You gravitated to the right position. Center is a cerebral position, right.
- 28:15Speaker 5: Yeah, And I wasn't. That's actually when I got to college.
- 28:18Speaker 4: I didn't had I played center when I was a
- 28:20Speaker 4: little kid, and then I got to high school and
- 28:22Speaker 4: I was I mean, we're a small school, so I
- 28:23Speaker 4: was kind of the biggest guy. So you get shoved
- 28:25Speaker 4: at left tackle and then get to college and it.
- 28:28Speaker 5: Was like here we go.
- 28:30Speaker 4: Just get shoved right into the fire as a freshman
- 28:33Speaker 4: and and then kind of just grew into it. And
- 28:36Speaker 4: I was like then kind of owned the own the role.
- 28:38Speaker 4: And that's kind of what I see myself as.
- 28:40Speaker 7: We're chatting with Jacob Bear. You started your college career
- 28:43Speaker 7: at Lamar.
- 28:44Speaker 5: Why Lamar, I'd say I wanted to be closer to home.
- 28:49Speaker 4: It was it was still in Texas, still a big
- 28:52Speaker 4: Division or a Division I school, and I kind of
- 28:57Speaker 4: I really liked.
- 28:58Speaker 5: The coach, Saint Patrick Covington.
- 29:00Speaker 4: He's a great guy and developed me quite a bit
- 29:02Speaker 4: while I was there. After two years, things didn't work
- 29:07Speaker 4: out with the team, and I kind of saw my
- 29:09Speaker 4: opportunity to hopefully take it to the next level and
- 29:12Speaker 4: move up to the FBS.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Your next school was Arkansas State, where you played for
- 29:17Speaker 2: former University of Cincinnati coach Butch Jones. He had a
- 29:20Speaker 2: great run at UC and he was known for his
- 29:23Speaker 2: colorful catchphrases hold the rope represent the sea, which stood
- 29:27Speaker 2: for Cincinnati. Did you have a favorite Butcher Jones catchphrase?
- 29:31Speaker 4: The biggest the biggest investment, He says, all the time
- 29:34Speaker 4: is you don't know. You don't know, so like there's
- 29:37Speaker 4: non unknowns and unknown unknowns, and Butch Jones knows and
- 29:41Speaker 4: we don't know. So that's why you just kind of
- 29:44Speaker 4: he knows the ropes. He's been ever. You say, he's
- 29:45Speaker 4: been to UC he went to Tennessee, he's been to Alabama.
- 29:48Speaker 4: So like, this guy is gonna know what he's doing.
- 29:50Speaker 4: So I kind of just let him hound me, let
- 29:54Speaker 4: him coach me up. And obviously it worked out.
- 29:57Speaker 2: In your junior year, you were one of the top
- 29:59Speaker 2: gradest centers in the country according to Pro Football Focus,
- 30:02Speaker 2: and then in April before your senior year, you tore
- 30:05Speaker 2: your ACL. The typical recovery is eight to twelve months.
- 30:10Speaker 2: You played in five months. You were back for the
- 30:13Speaker 2: second game of that next year. Might be the fastest
- 30:16Speaker 2: ACL recovery ever I've ever heard of.
- 30:19Speaker 7: How did you do it? And why did you do it?
- 30:21Speaker 5: The support system of a state was big.
- 30:23Speaker 4: I didn't It was truly an every day in the
- 30:27Speaker 4: building thing. There truly was no off days, and it
- 30:30Speaker 4: was a very risky thing. And I got told that
- 30:33Speaker 4: I can try for it, but that it wasn't like
- 30:36Speaker 4: I have a risk of re injuring myself and kind
- 30:38Speaker 4: of messing things up. But I'd say, I'm very lucky
- 30:42Speaker 4: and fortunate that, you know, that didn't happen and I
- 30:45Speaker 4: was able to. I stay there all summer. I never
- 30:48Speaker 4: went back home. I just all I did was knee rehab,
- 30:52Speaker 4: you know, day and night. And to be able to
- 30:55Speaker 4: get back in that fast, I mean it was it
- 30:57Speaker 4: was tough. Well, it hurt quite a bit, and there
- 30:59Speaker 4: are a time my knee looked not like a knee,
- 31:02Speaker 4: looked like something else. But so grateful, you know, to
- 31:07Speaker 4: have that and be able to now that I'm healthy
- 31:10Speaker 4: and there's haven't had it given another thought since since
- 31:12Speaker 4: my senior season.
- 31:13Speaker 7: So I said, I've never heard anybody come back faster,
- 31:16Speaker 7: have you?
- 31:17Speaker 5: I have not. Yeah, That's what that was. They told me.
- 31:20Speaker 4: They were like, well, so you know, these guys at
- 31:22Speaker 4: PAMA said they can get back in six. And I
- 31:23Speaker 4: was like, well, if they can do it, I can
- 31:26Speaker 4: do it. Like there ain't no difference between me and them.
- 31:28Speaker 4: So I got back in five and kind of just
- 31:31Speaker 4: pushed through it and made it work.
- 31:33Speaker 2: We're talking to Jacob Bear. Let's get to the mullet.
- 31:36Speaker 2: I asked you about this earlier in training camp. But
- 31:38Speaker 2: give us the oral history of the mullet.
- 31:41Speaker 4: Okay, so it all started. I think it was like
- 31:43Speaker 4: in junior high and I'm at a high school football
- 31:45Speaker 4: game with my dad and there's this big country white
- 31:48Speaker 4: dude and on the sidelines he's got this epic mullet.
- 31:52Speaker 4: Dad's like, you ought to get one of those sons.
- 31:54Speaker 4: At the time, I had some really long hair, but that.
- 31:56Speaker 5: Was about it.
- 31:57Speaker 4: And after that I got to high school and I
- 32:01Speaker 4: just kept the buzz.
- 32:01Speaker 5: That's that was my thing of bus cut.
- 32:04Speaker 4: And I got to college and bus cut, and then
- 32:05Speaker 4: eventually I was like, I'm tired of doing a bust.
- 32:09Speaker 4: Let's let's do something else. So and it was really
- 32:11Speaker 4: because my buddy, my buddy, my roommate in college, had
- 32:16Speaker 4: a mullet, and I thought back to that guy in
- 32:18Speaker 4: high school, you know, and I was like, you know,
- 32:20Speaker 4: it's about time let me grow a mull it out too.
- 32:23Speaker 5: So I started growing it out, and then it became.
- 32:27Speaker 4: Almost ridiculously long at some point, so I started trimming
- 32:30Speaker 4: it up and then I cut it after my college football.
- 32:34Speaker 5: My senior year. I guess kind of is like a.
- 32:37Speaker 4: New start, you know, you get a new you know,
- 32:39Speaker 4: college is over, let's cut the hair.
- 32:41Speaker 5: And then I was like, yeah, I miss it, man,
- 32:44Speaker 5: I got to get back to this mall.
- 32:46Speaker 4: I missed it too much and I started looking at
- 32:48Speaker 4: my bald head, so grew it back out.
- 32:51Speaker 7: Well, I'm glad you told me that, because I saw
- 32:53Speaker 7: pictures of you at the Senior Bowl with the buzz cut,
- 32:56Speaker 7: and I was thinking, I wonder if you felt like
- 32:58Speaker 7: you had to clean it up just for the NFL scouts.
- 33:02Speaker 4: I don't know, it was just something that something to do.
- 33:05Speaker 4: And then it was funny. I was going on these
- 33:07Speaker 4: Top thirty visits and all the coaches was like, yeah,
- 33:10Speaker 4: we got this little picture here in the corner.
- 33:13Speaker 5: You do not look the same. And I was like,
- 33:15Speaker 5: is this hurting me? Is the bus gout hurting me?
- 33:17Speaker 4: No one's recognizing me anymore, But uh yeah, just kind
- 33:20Speaker 4: of like a fresh start.
- 33:22Speaker 2: So you went to training camp with Buffalo last year.
- 33:25Speaker 2: You were one of the last roster cuts right before
- 33:27Speaker 2: the start of the season, and then the Bengals signed
- 33:29Speaker 2: you to their practice squad in November.
- 33:31Speaker 7: What did you do in between?
- 33:34Speaker 4: See, I spent some time in Arkansas, back at Arkansas
- 33:36Speaker 4: State for a little bit, and then I went back
- 33:38Speaker 4: home and I actually started working for my grandpa. He
- 33:43Speaker 4: has like a probably like a thirty acre ranch we
- 33:46Speaker 4: used to be ranch, just a bunch of land, and
- 33:47Speaker 4: he was wanted to get some stuff done.
- 33:49Speaker 5: And he knew I wasn't making any.
- 33:50Speaker 4: Money and I'm training, and so I Monday through Friday,
- 33:55Speaker 4: I'd be there at eight o'clock in the morning until.
- 33:57Speaker 5: About four o'clock and.
- 34:00Speaker 4: I whatever he wanted to do, clean out the garage,
- 34:02Speaker 4: or you know, stack these stack these boards, fill these holes,
- 34:06Speaker 4: just random random stuff to do on the kind of
- 34:09Speaker 4: you know, he did just retired, so he's playing catch
- 34:11Speaker 4: up on years and years of putting things off. So
- 34:14Speaker 4: I got to spend a lot of time with him,
- 34:15Speaker 4: which was great. I grew really close with him.
- 34:18Speaker 5: And then I just.
- 34:19Speaker 4: Kept working out, you know, kept training and kept trying
- 34:21Speaker 4: to be ready, and had five workouts in the first month,
- 34:26Speaker 4: so I was hopeful that something was going to land.
- 34:30Speaker 4: And then I ended up going a month without a workout,
- 34:32Speaker 4: and then Cincinnati called me and I thought, thank goodness,
- 34:36Speaker 4: you know, here about time he got something to land.
- 34:39Speaker 2: I'm sure your grandfather loved having you around, but he
- 34:42Speaker 2: must have been delighted when you got another chance.
- 34:44Speaker 5: Of course.
- 34:44Speaker 4: Yeah, every every time I had to call out and
- 34:46Speaker 4: be like, hey, I got another workout, he was, Hey,
- 34:48Speaker 4: no problem to me, We'll figure it out.
- 34:50Speaker 5: Do it another time.
- 34:52Speaker 2: I was watching one on one pass rushing reps. The
- 34:55Speaker 2: other day, offensive line coach Scott Peters asked Ted Carris
- 34:58Speaker 2: to step aside to see you take a rep against
- 35:02Speaker 2: Dexter Lawrence.
- 35:03Speaker 7: Describe what that's like.
- 35:05Speaker 4: Uh, definitely a little nerve racking, But I mean I
- 35:09Speaker 4: can't really, I can't change anything up. It's just trying
- 35:12Speaker 4: to do when I'm coached. And I thought it went well,
- 35:14Speaker 4: I can always do better. I mean, I wouldn't count
- 35:16Speaker 4: it as a win, but I wouldn't kint it as
- 35:18Speaker 4: me getting totally whooped either, So it was pretty cool.
- 35:22Speaker 2: I can attest to the fact you did not lose.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Dexter did not get to the person standing in at quarterback,
- 35:27Speaker 2: so you did about as well as anybody can against
- 35:30Speaker 2: that guy. A few wild card topics now for Jacob Bear,
- 35:33Speaker 2: who's your all time favorite athlete in any sport?
- 35:37Speaker 4: And why this kind of goes back to the strength
- 35:39Speaker 4: and then like the powerlifting is was Brian Shaw.
- 35:42Speaker 5: He's a four time World Strongest Man, and.
- 35:45Speaker 4: As a kid growing up, I used to I mean, well,
- 35:47Speaker 4: he's six eight, so I mean I wasn't, but I
- 35:49Speaker 4: was like, I want to be as big as strong
- 35:51Speaker 4: as this guy is. This dude walks around like he's
- 35:53Speaker 4: nobody can tell he's untouchable.
- 35:55Speaker 2: So Brian Shaw, all right, I'll remember the name. Other
- 35:59Speaker 2: than playing and lifting weights, where are you good at?
- 36:03Speaker 5: Used to be kind of good at chess.
- 36:05Speaker 4: I like playing solitaire, maybe some like like video games
- 36:09Speaker 4: like Call of Duty. But I mean, most of my
- 36:11Speaker 4: life has been spent doing football and weightlifting, so it's
- 36:14Speaker 4: kind of hard to say.
- 36:16Speaker 7: There's a chess board in the locker room.
- 36:19Speaker 3: Have you competed?
- 36:20Speaker 5: I have not yet. That's I'm leaving the vets to do.
- 36:23Speaker 5: Get out on that one.
- 36:24Speaker 3: All right.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Final question for Jacob Bear. This one's kind of deep.
- 36:28Speaker 2: If you could meet anybody in history, living or deceased,
- 36:32Speaker 2: who would that person be.
- 36:34Speaker 5: I was thinking of my great grandpa.
- 36:38Speaker 4: I was a little, very little when he passed, so
- 36:40Speaker 4: I don't remember anything really much about him, but from
- 36:42Speaker 4: what I know, and he was like one of the
- 36:44Speaker 4: smartest dudes in our family, went to college, was an
- 36:46Speaker 4: Air Force pilot. I was a first generation American, And
- 36:51Speaker 4: I think if I actually ever got to like sit
- 36:52Speaker 4: down and talk to him as an adult and just
- 36:54Speaker 4: kind of like see how he did things, and because
- 36:57Speaker 4: all I've ever heard from my grandpa is that he's
- 36:59Speaker 4: one of the wisest guy.
- 37:00Speaker 5: You know, it was around.
- 37:02Speaker 7: That's a great answer, and this was fun. I appreciate
- 37:04Speaker 7: your time, best of luck.
- 37:05Speaker 5: Thank you so much, sir.
- 37:07Speaker 7: That's going to do it for.
