- 0:00No lesson as follows. Abila Zabrazariao may listen to
- 0:07his words. MN Torah and Derek edits.
- 0:13MN Derek edits and Torah. What do these words mean?
- 0:18Amen. Torah and Derek edits and then
- 0:20Derek edits and Torah. So first of all, Derek edits is
- 0:24a very broad state. What does Derek edits mean?
- 0:27It doesn't simply mean what we think it means, which is being a
- 0:31nice person. It means a lot more than that.
- 0:33It means possibly good character.
- 0:36It also means honesty and business, treating people the
- 0:40right way. That is a very broad, very broad
- 0:43category. The first part the rabbi is
- 0:45saying is a man to write. What that means generally is, is
- 0:51unless a person has guidance and it's hard to really be a good
- 0:56person, someone wakes up in the morning, you know, someone you
- 0:59know has a good feeling, he wants to be a nice person.
- 1:02How do you define nice? How do you define good?
- 1:06How do you define caring? All these things are really very
- 1:10much subjective. And if we leave them up to our
- 1:13simple mind, our mind alone, it's very possible and it can
- 1:18become, you know, misguided. And I have a warm understanding
- 1:23overnight as we know all the people that we've said this
- 1:26before, all the people that are protesting on behalf of things,
- 1:30they're always protesting on behalf of good.
- 1:33No one ever gets up by protesters.
- 1:35I'm protesting on behalf of evil.
- 1:37Never. They just redefine what good is
- 1:40and may be actually representing evil.
- 1:42They think it's good, but it's not.
- 1:44So the idea of the words that man to Ryan dedicated it means
- 1:47you need to have guidance to Rob based guidance to know what
- 1:53character means, because character is something can be
- 1:56very subjected to our feelings, our emotions, what we believe,
- 2:00and we need to have something coming from somewhere else to
- 2:03give us guidance or to believe. That's the first part.
- 2:06But the second part, once you understand that is the opposite,
- 2:11which is really strange and main Derek edits and Torah.
- 2:16He just told me I need Torah to be my guidance to figure out how
- 2:21to carry, how to act, how to carry myself, how to be a good
- 2:24person. I need to have guidance.
- 2:27What's the flip side? What does it mean if I need the
- 2:31Torah to give me guidance and then I'll act like a good
- 2:34person? How do you say the other way
- 2:35around? How do you say you need to have
- 2:39Torah? What came first?
- 2:40This is literally a scenario of what came first, correct?
- 2:43But how do you explain that? The first step I got, you need
- 2:46Torah in order to understand what good and bad is.
- 2:50And then you're going to act because you're a good person.
- 2:52You can act as a good way, but how do you go?
- 2:54But you need goodness. You need to keep to our.
- 2:59How does this work? The reality is if you look
- 3:02around the world, you know how this works, that is.
- 3:06And you know, if you have a bad guy guy, he's not a good person,
- 3:11not a nice person, not a kind person, has 0 character,
- 3:15whatever it is, and he tries to have Torah, the Mishnah is
- 3:20telling you his Torah will not stick.
- 3:22The truth is, the gardens of Torah really can mold a person,
- 3:25but his Torah won't stick. If he continues remaining a bad
- 3:29person, bad character person, the Torah that comes to him
- 3:33won't stick. The way the rabbi on the side
- 3:36says it, he'll forget his Torah. He won't develop anything from
- 3:39the Torah that he learns. Because unless you're committed
- 3:42to being a good person, the Torada you learn will have no
- 3:46effects. You have to have a combination
- 3:48of both. You need to have the source of
- 3:50guidance in order to have a data chance that you want to have.
- 3:55And you need to have a commitment to being a good
- 3:57person in order for the Torada you learn to mold you.
- 4:03This is the combination. I want to make sure this is
- 4:05clear. Does it make sense?
- 4:06You need to have both. You can't have one without the
- 4:08other. You can't simply say I'm going
- 4:11to be a good guy because, you know, we don't really know what
- 4:13good is. You know, you know, if you go up
- 4:15in a vacuum for sure, you have no idea what good is and you
- 4:18need some sort of guidance. It's our parents, our rabbis,
- 4:22our leaders, our upbringing. That's all part of it.
- 4:25And now it's aura on the other side.
- 4:27The person just says I'm Akiba Tura and there's no commitment
- 4:31to their credits. That is, tura won't stick and it
- 4:36won't mold and won't become a better person.
- 4:37That's the combination. Next one is interesting.
- 4:40MN hochma en yira we say about people at the Avira Chama in
- 4:47persons God fearing person. If a guy does not have any
- 4:52knowledge, again any nod in your wisdom to be God fearing is a
- 4:58sketch. He says he's God fearing.
- 5:00He doesn't really know what God is.
- 5:02He doesn't really have any sense of the concept of a God running
- 5:06world. If he's just very simple minded
- 5:08person, she be simple minded and Hochman, he has no understanding
- 5:13of the world. He doesn't really I never really
- 5:15learned anything or thought about anything.
- 5:18The fact that he says that he's God fearing is not real.
- 5:22He says he's God fearing doesn't mean the concept of what God
- 5:25means. This doesn't mean you need to be
- 5:28a philosopher, but that means you need to be a thinker.
- 5:31If you're a thinker, then your fear of heaven is powerful.
- 5:36If you have, then you're God fearing and then you're you're
- 5:41out shamayim with something that's special.
- 5:42Here's a person he thought about life and he looks up and he
- 5:45realizes that Sham runs the world.
- 5:47That's a God fearing person. But if someone is not a thinker,
- 5:51is it out? He's really coming from nowhere.
- 5:55The opposite if he's not God fearing and his wisdom is a
- 5:59sketch as well. This is a surprising concept.
- 6:02Can you find a person who's very wise, who doesn't believe in
- 6:06God? You know, such people.
- 6:08I think there are many people like that in the world.
- 6:10And the atheists who are very smart scientists.
- 6:13Many scientists. Exactly.
- 6:15Amen. Yeah.
- 6:16And they're not God fearing. They don't have wisdom.
- 6:20Doesn't mean they're not smart. It doesn't mean they're not
- 6:23intellectuals. They don't have real wisdom.
- 6:25When they have a sense of who Hashem is and they have this
- 6:30turn to live with the awe of God, then they're the intellect
- 6:34becomes wise. They become not just smart
- 6:38people or intellectual people to become a person with Hokhmah,
- 6:44with wisdom. So again, you need to have the
- 6:46combination like everything we have over here, you need the
- 6:48combination. You need Torah with the edits,
- 6:52need the edits Torah. You have to have the gardens for
- 6:55the character and the character to absorb the gardens.
- 6:58You have to have the wisdom to really appreciate who God is,
- 7:03and you have to have an appreciation of God to really
- 7:06appreciate wisdom. Next one is hard to explain or
- 7:10skip. And there's another one, and
- 7:12Anne Kemah and Torah and man Torah and Kemah.
- 7:18What does that mean? What's camah?
- 7:20Flower. If you don't have flower, you
- 7:24won't have Torah. If you don't have sustenance,
- 7:28it's impossible to learn. If you don't have learning, and
- 7:32a person won't be blessed with the same Hokhmah, with the same
- 7:36sustenance. This is again a combination
- 7:39that's very powerful in the world we live in today.
- 7:42I think. Look at all these she bought and
- 7:44all the shoes and all the Kola Lim and all, everything.
- 7:48They're all running on people who support them.
- 7:53You take away the support, goodbye to everything, the shoes
- 7:58which are running on a very fast pace and they're spending a lot
- 8:00of money. The schools which spend
- 8:02unbelievable amount of money, they call a lien, which 1000%
- 8:05everything that they get is donations and have.
- 8:09There's no giving back. So all that is all functioning
- 8:13on Camach. Camach means supporters and
- 8:18every home. The same way you want to learn,
- 8:19you need to have some source of support somewhere.
- 8:22You can't do without Amen Camach and Twitter.
- 8:25But the second part is surprising.
- 8:26Amen. Torah and Camach.
- 8:28What does that mean, Evan Torah and Kemach?
- 8:32I understand. It's very simple, very simple
- 8:34math. If you don't have gas to fuel
- 8:36the car, the car won't run. If you don't have money to fuel
- 8:39the kohl, the kohl won't function.
- 8:41I got that. If no one supports the family,
- 8:44the family will not be able to learn.
- 8:46What's the other part, Evan Torah.
- 8:48You don't have Torah, you don't have money.
- 8:50You could have money around Torah.
- 8:51What does that mean? Won't be happy with it.
- 8:54Oh, so I did very good. So I did the route as explained
- 8:58is that event and Cam and Tara and Camach means everything over
- 9:04here we're talking about is not just having actually retaining
- 9:09and enjoying. When we came to wisdom, we came
- 9:11to dedicated came to Tara. All these things on this list.
- 9:15We're talking about things that you want to really have this
- 9:18one, this example as well. If a person is not of Tara in
- 9:21their life, the money that they have will either not remain or
- 9:27not have any meaning. Everyone of us want to have
- 9:30everything. We want to have tuda in our
- 9:32lives. We want to have money, we want
- 9:34to have it all. If you want to have this
- 9:36sustenance the right way, you need to have tuda in your life.
- 9:39The Mishnah is telling you because that'll make all the
- 9:42income that you have much more enjoyable, a better way of life
- 9:47spent properly used, the right way.
- 9:50All that will come if you have the guidance and the tuda.
- 9:52So the Mishnah is telling us that every area of our life
- 9:56requires literally A2 front approach, or better yet,
- 10:00requires balance. You need to have both.
- 10:03You can't have anything without the other.
- 10:04You can't have toda without money.
- 10:07It's not really worth anything having money without Toda.
- 10:10This all part of the mindset, the Mishnah.
- 10:11All right, these are the ideas. Now I want to tell you one more
- 10:16Mishnah, one more Mishnah, and then we'll close.
- 10:23And this is a wild constant because people would definitely
- 10:27think unlike this upcoming of itself.
- 10:29Vishnu, listen, these words, who are you all made call Serua
- 10:34Cabrio? No, Jaime, anyone who's well
- 10:38liked by people, let me ask you a question.
- 10:42Is popularity A Torah concept or not as being well liked as being
- 10:50someone who's charming? Are these things Torah concepts
- 10:54or are these celebrity concepts? What are they?
- 10:57I don't know who? Well, me maybe more anxiety,
- 11:05right? Correct.
- 11:06It's not charming someone that people like.
- 11:12Someone's a likable person like to be around.
- 11:15Someone who people enjoy to be around.
- 11:16Isagi Ruach hamakom no Haimeru. Hashem likes if people like you,
- 11:23it's an indication, and that's a trigger for Hashem to like you.
- 11:28Because Andrew javiot no haemeno, someone who's a prickly
- 11:32person who's difficult to be around, every time you're around
- 11:34them you're uncomfortable. Such a person.
- 11:38And ruach hamakom no haemeno, Hashem doesn't like him, doesn't
- 11:43enjoy him either, doesn't say I don't like him.
- 11:45And ruach hamakom no haemeno, Hashem doesn't find them
- 11:49pleasant either. The example that they give is
- 11:52Noah. Noah in the beginning of Torah
- 11:55was considered Noah Khan. Back home.
- 11:58He was pleasant eyes of Hashem and he was Noah, pleasant eyes
- 12:02of people. So I've always wondered about
- 12:04this Mishnah, what is this? What he was?
- 12:06Both people enjoyed him. Although he couldn't really have
- 12:09an influence, people enjoyed him.
- 12:11I've always wondered about this, Mr. Harshad.
- 12:13It doesn't say anything about Torah.
- 12:14It doesn't say anything about observance.
- 12:16It says if people like you, God likes you.
- 12:20If people have a hard time with you, you're not comfortable
- 12:22around people, people don't find themselves comfortable around
- 12:25you, then Hashem doesn't find you pleasant.
- 12:29What is this concept? Let's be much more straight.
- 12:33If you're a good Jew, Hashem likes you.
- 12:35If you're not a good Jew, you know you're sitting left to
- 12:38right. God has a problem with you.
- 12:40That would have been an easy mission.
- 12:41Now, I would have wrote the mission.
- 12:42Now that would have been simple. Open shop, a good Jew.
- 12:44God likes not so God doesn't like.
- 12:47What is this people like you, Hashem likes you, people don't
- 12:52like you, Hashem doesn't like you.
- 12:54What is this concept was to be the other shame likes you and
- 12:56then the people like that's also a question, correct?
- 12:59What is this concept? Shame created the people, he's
- 13:04judging on his creations how they react to the other people,
- 13:07and then he's from it. Good.
- 13:10So the idea is like this Exactly.
- 13:13The truth is, the answer is which, not his.
- 13:15Look around the world, look around the community, look
- 13:18around your families. The people who are pleasant,
- 13:22they're not just pleasant in one area, they're just everything
- 13:26about them is worked on character.
- 13:29To be pleasant, you're a person who doesn't insult very easily,
- 13:35doesn't get insulted so fast. To be pleasant, you're a person
- 13:40who instead of looking and seeing my flaws, you're looking
- 13:44for my positives. To be pleasant, you're a person
- 13:48who doesn't, after we leave this conversation, go to the nice guy
- 13:51and talk about me, right? To be pleasant, you're a person
- 13:57who if I wronged you one way or another, you don't make the
- 13:59biggest deal, you let it go, right?
- 14:02These are all the traits of You're easy.
- 14:08There's nothing better around people than being easy.
- 14:13Otherwise, if you're not easy, if you're difficult, everyone
- 14:15that's on the toes, everyone's on age.
- 14:18I was nervous what they're going to say.
- 14:20Everyone is careful. If they don't say anything and
- 14:23then they say the one thing and you catch it and you keep it
- 14:26with you and you never let it go.
- 14:28That's a person who is not easy. And that's a person.
- 14:31If you're not easy, then you're checking all the boxes of pretty
- 14:35much flawed character. Because like I said, you don't
- 14:39go over insults easily. You probably that person
- 14:43probably says negative things. He probably notices my flaws.
- 14:47He's going to catch me on my mistake.
- 14:49We all make mistakes. He's going to catch my mistake.
- 14:52He's going to get angry, he's going to get insulted.
- 14:55He's going to by the way, along with not being easy, he's going
- 14:57to be very loud. All the trace of not being easy
- 15:02or all flawed character. So really what he's saying is
- 15:04like this, that Hashem throws you into the fire of being among
- 15:08people in that, in that you know that much bit of being among
- 15:12people, you have to work on yourself, have to develop softer
- 15:17character, easier character. If you do that, it's basically a
- 15:22trial of a person becoming Nawakhla Hashem.
- 15:26How do you become easy to Hashem when you worked out all your
- 15:29different character for us and you make yourself softer and
- 15:32softer and softer in these ways and he developed an easy way.
- 15:36Hashem likes you. That's the reason.
- 15:38It's not saying that popularity is a thing.
- 15:41No, popularity is not a thing. Being easy, being likable
- 15:46usually carries with it all these.
- 15:49We thought all these worked on carried.
- 15:52Some people are born with it, which is great, and some people
- 15:56work at it. And when you work at it and you
- 15:58develop yourself, it's literally a real life example.
- 16:02Being easy, being well liked is a real life example of all our
- 16:07character challenges being developed.
- 16:09And you know people, I know people who are easy.
- 16:12We love to be around them. I remember I had a friend who
- 16:14was in high school. This guy we had like in my
- 16:17class, for some reason, we had two crews.
- 16:20There was one crew and another crew.
- 16:22This guy crossed all the both crews.
- 16:25He wasn't the smartest guy in the world.
- 16:28He wasn't, you know, the wealthiest kid, which didn't
- 16:30really matter in my school. What was he?
- 16:33Just a purse? Easy to be around.
- 16:36Just have a good time around them.
- 16:37It's light, it's fun, it's chilled.
- 16:41It's not too heavy, not too difficult there, doesn't make
- 16:44problems. I remember everyone liked him.
- 16:46It just crossed my mind because I never understood why he was so
- 16:49popular. But this is really why.
- 16:51It wasn't cause anything else. We didn't have any of the reason
- 16:53to be popular in yeshiva. What else can make you?
- 16:55He's not the starting quarterback.
- 16:58He's not, you know, wealthy didn't matter in my school
- 17:01'cause we were just living in a dorm.
- 17:03It doesn't make a difference. So what was his popularity?
- 17:05Just being easy. And the truth of the matter is,
- 17:08if you become an easy person, everyone loves you.
- 17:12Everyone enjoys the comeback. And that is the definition of
- 17:16hen. Noah.
- 17:18Flip it around, Noah matzah hen because we're noon and hen
- 17:22flipping around. It's hen.
- 17:24Noah. Hen is the same word.
- 17:26He was an easy person. He was a likeable person.
- 17:29He was. Therefore that's the real
- 17:31definition of charming. Tells him charming doesn't mean
- 17:33you could woo people. Charming means you're likable.
- 17:36And when you're likable, you've developed all these difficult
- 17:40character traits, you've worked at them.
- 17:42Sometimes it's harder for people, sometimes it's easier.
- 17:45And once you work at them, Hashem looks at that person and
- 17:49says, OK, through life you've developed in my eyes, you've
- 17:54developed too. And you know, Akhla Hashem, your
- 17:56pleasant eyes are Hashem, that a bond says that a person who has
- 18:00this trait, even if he makes commit sins, not often, but even
- 18:06if he commits sins, and he may not be tippy top when it comes
- 18:10to halacha if he's tippy top in this area, God protects such a
- 18:15person more than he would protect the regular person.
- 18:18Because if Hashanah likes you, like everyone else likes you,
- 18:23and you get a little bit of a pass, this is not bond rights,
- 18:27OK? In fact, he explains that Noah
- 18:30during that time should have been thrown into the Mabu like
- 18:33everybody else. But because he was a likable
- 18:37person, Hashem liked him. God gave him special protection.
- 18:42To avoid the novel because likable is not God's eyes, is
- 18:47something unbelievable. Hashem loves you and therefore
- 18:50gives special protection. That's the ideal stopping this.
