- 0:00Speaker 1: Now Jaguars played on Thursday night this week. That means
- 0:04Speaker 1: we had a free weekend. What do you guys do
- 0:06Speaker 1: on a Sunday when you don't have DAGs football?
- 0:07Speaker 2: Uh?
- 0:09Speaker 3: I was traveling cause I went through the Navy Air
- 0:11Speaker 3: Force game on Saturday for my son's official.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Recruit in business.
- 0:13Speaker 4: Any Actually, for the first time in years, I actually
- 0:18Speaker 4: did watch football.
- 0:18Speaker 5: All day Sunday, So that was the it was on Sunday.
- 0:22Speaker 5: There you go.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Welcome to Jags am here on this Monday as we
- 0:43Speaker 1: get ready to look back a little bit at Thursday
- 0:45Speaker 1: night football, but also we get to kind of preview
- 0:47Speaker 1: the week ahead, and we had a weekend off.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Which was nice.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I know, you guys traveling a little bit enjoyed football.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Maybe would you Jags fans got to watch Red Zone.
- 0:55Speaker 1: I went to Connecticut for a little bit to see
- 0:57Speaker 1: some family and then I missed a little Red Zone
- 1:00Speaker 1: time because I was in the airport.
- 1:01Speaker 2: But I did get back and get into it.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Cause it's always nice to kind of just sit on
- 1:04Speaker 1: the couch and you know, not be fully invested, but
- 1:06Speaker 1: still kind of pay attention to everything. Right, It's to
- 1:09Speaker 1: be a little bit of a fan.
- 1:10Speaker 3: The great thing about Red Zone is I got home
- 1:11Speaker 3: in time for the second set of games, but I
- 1:13Speaker 3: felt like I saw every game because they kept going
- 1:16Speaker 3: to showing highlights. Right when you watch red Zone, you
- 1:18Speaker 3: feel as if you saw everything. Even though you didn't
- 1:20Speaker 3: see every play of every game, you feel like you saw.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Enough, definitely, and it's a feature we unfortunately not unfortunately
- 1:26Speaker 1: fortunately for us because we get to cover the team
- 1:27Speaker 1: we don't get to take part in always, so it's
- 1:29Speaker 1: always fun when we get to do that. But the
- 1:31Speaker 1: Jags were in primetime on Thursday. We're gonna start with
- 1:33Speaker 1: our big things. Our first big thing is prime time
- 1:36Speaker 1: because they were under the lights in New Orleans in
- 1:39Speaker 1: that Thursday night matchup, and maybe it wasn't exactly going
- 1:43Speaker 1: to a game plan, but they did get the win,
- 1:45Speaker 1: and Trevor talked about, you know, it didn't go to plan,
- 1:47Speaker 1: but they did get.
- 1:48Speaker 6: To w and I just think it was good for
- 1:50Speaker 6: our team today. You know, we kind of we jumped
- 1:54Speaker 6: on them early and it looked like we could maybe
- 1:56Speaker 6: run away with it and put them away, and that's
- 1:58Speaker 6: what we were all thinking.
- 1:59Speaker 3: That's what I also opening for, or.
- 2:00Speaker 5: Maybe I can get out a little early and.
- 2:01Speaker 6: You can get a lead and you know it's it's
- 2:03Speaker 6: NFL don't really work like that usually, so they come
- 2:06Speaker 6: storming back and it put us in a position where
- 2:08Speaker 6: we had to make plays down the stretch. And that's
- 2:10Speaker 6: that's something that builds your team is when you see
- 2:12Speaker 6: guys and make the plays when they have to, and
- 2:14Speaker 6: we score when we have to, and the defense gets
- 2:17Speaker 6: a stop on fourth down when they have to. It's
- 2:19Speaker 6: game on the line that builds confidence in their team
- 2:22Speaker 6: more than blowing a team out. So you know, that
- 2:25Speaker 6: was cool to see, and that was cool to be
- 2:26Speaker 6: a part of, and just the overall belief in each
- 2:28Speaker 6: other that we that we have right now.
- 2:30Speaker 3: So it's awesome.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Huge.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Rian Turvy's talking a little bit about, oh maybe this
- 2:33Speaker 1: is a game where we can get out to a
- 2:35Speaker 1: lead early. I can get out of the game, you know,
- 2:36Speaker 1: because I'm dealing with the NY thing.
- 2:37Speaker 5: Yep.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Things never go to plans. So what did you learn
- 2:39Speaker 2: about the team?
- 2:39Speaker 3: Well, I forget about the plan in short week. You know,
- 2:42Speaker 3: third game and what thirteen days getting to win? It's
- 2:46Speaker 3: the plan. And what you learn is that there is
- 2:48Speaker 3: a depth a resiliency to this team that they can
- 2:53Speaker 3: have some success and then see some of that success
- 2:55Speaker 3: erod to the second half and still with you know,
- 2:58Speaker 3: three p forty three or whatever was on the clock,
- 3:01Speaker 3: make a play, you know, with thirteen seconds left, make
- 3:04Speaker 3: a play in the end zone. They had enough in
- 3:06Speaker 3: the tank when quite honestly, it's not out of out
- 3:10Speaker 3: of a reasonable expectation that the tank would be empty.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Yeah, you guys are gonna get tired of hearing it today.
- 3:16Speaker 5: I thought it was a pretty win.
- 3:18Speaker 4: I mean, I guess the way I see Thursday night
- 3:22Speaker 4: football is there is no plan, no matter when you
- 3:26Speaker 4: play it.
- 3:27Speaker 5: If you watch any Thursday night games, teams never look
- 3:31Speaker 5: like they look in other games. In those games.
- 3:35Speaker 4: It is not a great setup for seeing quality football.
- 3:39Speaker 4: I understand the money part of it, but I think
- 3:43Speaker 4: most coaches look at it like, look, we're gonna throw
- 3:45Speaker 4: the kitchen sink at this one, and if we come
- 3:47Speaker 4: out with a win, we're ecstatic. So I thought the
- 3:51Speaker 4: fact that they won, I can't all week long, or
- 3:56Speaker 4: the three days long. I kept saying, as long as
- 3:59Speaker 4: you win, this is a really, really impressive win. So
- 4:03Speaker 4: that they got it, I'm not going to go back
- 4:05Speaker 4: on that and say, oh, I didn't like the way
- 4:06Speaker 4: the offense played in the second half. They've won four straight,
- 4:09Speaker 4: four different stadiums.
- 4:11Speaker 2: You know, nineteen days. I think they said.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Three cities, two continent, six time zones.
- 4:16Speaker 4: Absolutely, if you're a Jags fan, it didn't get any
- 4:20Speaker 4: better than that, Nope, anything.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Considering the conditions on Thursday as well, I was more
- 4:23Speaker 1: surprised some of the good things they were doing right,
- 4:25Speaker 1: because I was repecting they'd find a way, but I
- 4:29Speaker 1: was more surprised how well they did early on. Our
- 4:32Speaker 1: second big thing this week is going to be the comeback.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Now necessarily the Saints comeback, but the comeback the Jags
- 4:36Speaker 1: have had these last four games. As we mentioned, they've
- 4:39Speaker 1: been one of the best teams in football, at least
- 4:40Speaker 1: from what we've seen, and they haven't even hit their
- 4:42Speaker 1: stride yet. Christian Kirk talked a little bit about what
- 4:44Speaker 1: this team's been able to do lately.
- 4:47Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, I think it shows a lot about
- 4:49Speaker 7: the character, the professionalism in our room, not shying away
- 4:53Speaker 7: from adversity. You know, before we went over to London,
- 4:56Speaker 7: you know, we're pretty down on ourselves, but all it
- 4:59Speaker 7: took it was just us kind of bending together, growing
- 5:02Speaker 7: even closer and just all we needed was one and
- 5:05Speaker 7: we knew, you know, the flood games had kind of open.
- 5:07Speaker 7: So I like where we're at right now. Like I said,
- 5:10Speaker 7: we definitely have a lot of work to do, but
- 5:11Speaker 7: the fact that we're able to turn around and you know,
- 5:13Speaker 7: play four games in nineteen days and be able to
- 5:16Speaker 7: be on you know, four no is says a lot
- 5:18Speaker 7: about our team.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Christian is certainly one of the leaders in the locker
- 5:21Speaker 1: room John, but just the mentality of this team, it
- 5:23Speaker 1: feels different because you know, when they were in that
- 5:25Speaker 1: stretch with the Chiefs and the Texans game, it's almost
- 5:27Speaker 1: like they were just so stressed and like they felt
- 5:29Speaker 1: like they couldn't win, and now it feels like we'll
- 5:31Speaker 1: find a way.
- 5:32Speaker 4: Well, I think there's an element too when you're in
- 5:34Speaker 4: a stretch like that, you're trying to figure out what's
- 5:35Speaker 4: going on. And I think maybe as much as anything
- 5:39Speaker 4: during that time, sometimes in the NFL you lose. The
- 5:42Speaker 4: last team to go in to feed it was fifty
- 5:43Speaker 4: years ago and that's not walked through the door again.
- 5:46Speaker 4: So I I guess I just look at this team
- 5:53Speaker 4: every email I get, it seems right now is trying
- 5:56Speaker 4: to find the flaw. Everybody's trying to outsmart themselves. They've
- 6:00Speaker 4: won four straight games. They haven't trailed in the second
- 6:03Speaker 4: half in any of those games. In the NFL, you know,
- 6:07Speaker 4: I keep getting emails about way they can't protect leads.
- 6:09Speaker 3: They haven't trailed exactly.
- 6:11Speaker 5: They haven't trailed.
- 6:13Speaker 4: The only time they trailed was three to nothing against
- 6:15Speaker 4: the Colts and they hadn't had the ball yet. You
- 6:18Speaker 4: can't protect leads better than this team is protecting them
- 6:21Speaker 4: right now. It's professional football. When you're up fifteen in
- 6:25Speaker 4: the second half, you know it's gonna happen. Sometimes sometimes
- 6:26Speaker 4: you're gonna get tied. And they responded to that, well,
- 6:31Speaker 4: Terrek Brown, Look.
- 6:32Speaker 5: It's not perfect, but it's sort of my hot take. Yeah,
- 6:37Speaker 5: I'm working, I.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Am locked good. I mean mount Terrek Brown, who struggled
- 6:43Speaker 3: mightily against the Colts, came back and made the play
- 6:46Speaker 3: that sealed the win. A yeah, no, no, no doubt.
- 6:49Speaker 3: He made a couple of plays. He made a couple
- 6:51Speaker 3: of plays. But so my take on this at this point,
- 6:53Speaker 3: Kay and John we talked about it. You know, there
- 6:55Speaker 3: was this sense the jack was just kind of pick
- 6:57Speaker 3: up where they left off last year, and they'd be
- 6:59Speaker 3: better than they were at the end of last year
- 7:00Speaker 3: because they had Calvin Ridley and the offense was ready
- 7:03Speaker 3: to soar, and it didn't start that way. So what
- 7:07Speaker 3: we have as a team that's evolving still right, they
- 7:10Speaker 3: didn't play great football at the end of last year.
- 7:12Speaker 3: What they did was find a way to win games
- 7:14Speaker 3: at the end. You know, they remember they were down
- 7:16Speaker 3: twenty seven to seven at the half. They needed that
- 7:18Speaker 3: big play from ray Sean and Josh to beat the
- 7:20Speaker 3: Titans to even get to the playoffs. So I think
- 7:23Speaker 3: when we look back where therever the season ends, I
- 7:25Speaker 3: think we'll look at this stretch, you know, from London
- 7:28Speaker 3: to New Orleans, as we talked about, you know, three cities,
- 7:31Speaker 3: sports stadiums, six time zones, two continents. We'll look at
- 7:34Speaker 3: this as that point where evolution changes. And that's my
- 7:37Speaker 3: hot take. So I don't want to go too far
- 7:39Speaker 3: on it other than to say that where they are
- 7:41Speaker 3: right now from where they were when they left for
- 7:42Speaker 3: London is dramatically different, and it's really impressive.
- 7:45Speaker 1: I think one of the most impressive things is they
- 7:47Speaker 1: kind of do it a little bit differently in every game. Obviously,
- 7:50Speaker 1: the defense has been very consistent, but they find ways
- 7:52Speaker 1: to make things work. Gritty not pretty, if you will.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Is our final big thing this week for a Lulliican
- 7:59Speaker 1: try to describe exactly what this team is.
- 8:03Speaker 5: That's that's who we are as this team.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Bro like.
- 8:04Speaker 8: We ain't got no Hollywood people on this team. We're
- 8:06Speaker 8: all gritty, Like I'm saying, we're fighters. Trevor coming out
- 8:11Speaker 8: and fighting for us. We're gonna fight for him, fight
- 8:13Speaker 8: for our by the next year us. I appreciate him,
- 8:14Speaker 8: saw him that every drive when he started running and stuff.
- 8:16Speaker 8: I said, dang, you know, I gotta start going and
- 8:18Speaker 8: I came here, took a five hundreds. Yes, I gotta
- 8:20Speaker 8: do more.
- 8:22Speaker 5: And I appreciate him.
- 8:22Speaker 8: I appreciate everybody real.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Trevor with that knee injury was one of our big
- 8:27Speaker 1: stories this week. Him going out and playing and playing
- 8:30Speaker 1: the way he did inspired his teammates. Many of them
- 8:33Speaker 1: will tell you that what does that mean to and
- 8:35Speaker 1: how does that bring a team together?
- 8:36Speaker 2: Right?
- 8:36Speaker 3: Well, when you have the quarterback right and you heard
- 8:39Speaker 3: Jonathan Allen yesterday in the locker room, you know when
- 8:42Speaker 3: Washington lost to New York talking about, you know, seven
- 8:45Speaker 3: years of this stuff. He didn't use the word stuff.
- 8:47Speaker 3: If you heard it. They have a quarterback and they
- 8:49Speaker 3: don't have anybody that can rally around, and so you
- 8:51Speaker 3: got the defense against the offense. Look, everybody here in
- 8:54Speaker 3: Jacksonville can rally around this quarterback. They know they've got
- 8:58Speaker 3: their guy. It helps lift every one's level of performance
- 9:01Speaker 3: when you have someone like that. And I think it
- 9:03Speaker 3: bears saying, John, when you think you know, gritty not pretty?
- 9:06Speaker 2: Wait?
- 9:06Speaker 3: Was Kansas City pretty yesterday?
- 9:08Speaker 5: No?
- 9:08Speaker 3: Kansas City was not pretty yesterday? Was Philadelphia pretty yesterday?
- 9:11Speaker 5: No?
- 9:11Speaker 3: Philadelphia wasn't pretty yesterday. I'm not sure that we're going
- 9:14Speaker 3: to see that from San Francisco tonight. Maybe the only
- 9:16Speaker 3: pretty offense yesterday. The pretty team was the Ravens, and
- 9:19Speaker 3: they weren't pretty the last time they were out. And
- 9:21Speaker 3: that's just the league. It's a gritty league. John talked about,
- 9:24Speaker 3: you know, having a lead and holding it in the
- 9:26Speaker 3: fourth quarter. Who cares whether it's ugly or not. If
- 9:29Speaker 3: you hold it, you win.
- 9:30Speaker 5: Yeah. I think this team's world's better than it was
- 9:34Speaker 5: late last year. I'm worked up.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Do you want to take a break so you can
- 9:42Speaker 3: get ready for your hot take?
- 9:43Speaker 2: Anyone to calm down, John, did you get.
- 9:45Speaker 5: Well, it's late last year.
- 9:49Speaker 4: In the last six of their last eight games, they
- 9:53Speaker 4: had to come from a touchdown down to win. This
- 9:56Speaker 4: team has trailed by a total of three points in
- 9:58Speaker 4: four games.
- 10:00Speaker 5: Where is it not better? I mean it's you are.
- 10:04Speaker 4: Not gonna have games in the NFL very often where
- 10:09Speaker 4: they're like Trevor was sort of talking about in his presser,
- 10:12Speaker 4: where you get up and you're thirty eight to seventeen,
- 10:14Speaker 4: you're kneeling on the ball at the end. It's such
- 10:18Speaker 4: a league of plays and moments that if you get
- 10:21Speaker 4: that fourteen point lead, I thought, Doug a little bit,
- 10:24Speaker 4: you know, Oh, they took the foot off the gas.
- 10:27Speaker 4: You played percentages to try to get the win. They
- 10:31Speaker 4: never trailed. The Saints tied them, then they played good defense,
- 10:35Speaker 4: and then they went down and made the play of
- 10:36Speaker 4: the game.
- 10:38Speaker 5: At the end. That's how you build playoff pushes, is
- 10:42Speaker 5: wins like that.
- 10:43Speaker 2: All right, we're gonna come back a little bit.
- 10:45Speaker 1: We won't go over full highlights, but some of our
- 10:47Speaker 1: game changing moments, some of the top plays from Thursday
- 10:49Speaker 1: Night Football. Welcome back, Sign up your free friend for

- 11:11Speaker 1: Welcome back to Jags am Here, presented by Carshield and
- 11:14Speaker 1: the Hundai Studios.
- 11:15Speaker 2: And we've had a weekend off. We're very refreshed.
- 11:18Speaker 1: I'm sure you guys have seen all the highlights and
- 11:20Speaker 1: if you stayed up late, you saw it live and
- 11:21Speaker 1: all the drama that went down in New Orleans. But
- 11:23Speaker 1: we're gonna go over some of the key moments for
- 11:26Speaker 1: us and things that will probably remember long past this week.
- 11:29Speaker 1: And I think the first one's got to be Foya
- 11:31Speaker 1: Lucan getting his pick six his first touchdown, he said,
- 11:34Speaker 1: since high school, because he didn't have one in college
- 11:37Speaker 1: and it hasn't had one so far in the NFL,
- 11:38Speaker 1: because it's definitely not an easy thing to get in
- 11:40Speaker 1: the NFL. But John he's been everywhere, He's led the
- 11:44Speaker 1: league and tackles two years in a row.
- 11:45Speaker 2: And what does he mean to this defense?
- 11:47Speaker 4: Well, he's really really important. I think he's got to
- 11:53Speaker 4: shot the Pro Bowl this year, I think so. I
- 11:56Speaker 4: think this plays a big reason why because of the
- 11:59Speaker 4: dynamic provo voting. This play isn't why he's great. He's
- 12:04Speaker 4: really really good because he's so consistent tackling.
- 12:09Speaker 5: You trust him implicitly. But he's won.
- 12:12Speaker 4: I mean, he's been the leading tackler two years in
- 12:14Speaker 4: a row. I think he's got a really good chance
- 12:17Speaker 4: to do it again. A primetime play like this, all
- 12:20Speaker 4: of a sudden gets your name out there a little more.
- 12:23Speaker 5: So this could be what catapults him there. And if
- 12:26Speaker 5: it does, he's.
- 12:27Speaker 4: A really really productive player. He's the kind of guy
- 12:30Speaker 4: that deserves to go to the Probo once twice in
- 12:32Speaker 4: his career.
- 12:32Speaker 3: And he's better than he was last year. I mean
- 12:35Speaker 3: he has. He came in. He led the Falcons in
- 12:38Speaker 3: his final season in Atlanta in tackles and led the
- 12:41Speaker 3: league in tackles with Atlanta, and he came right in and
- 12:43Speaker 3: he did the same thing last year. But there were
- 12:45Speaker 3: some there were some moments where he missed and tackles
- 12:47Speaker 3: last year. I haven't seen him miss it tackle this year.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Even when he's he's the guy that's knocking his legs
- 12:52Speaker 3: out underneath and grabbing for someone else to pull him down.
- 12:55Speaker 3: He makes the play. Anytime you see twenty three, he
- 12:59Speaker 3: makes the play.
- 13:00Speaker 5: You get the idea.
- 13:01Speaker 4: I haven't really talked to foy about this, but I
- 13:03Speaker 4: would guess that he is able to play a little
- 13:06Speaker 4: faster a being in the scheme an extra year, and
- 13:10Speaker 4: I think Devin Lloyd is much more aware now. Yeah,
- 13:14Speaker 4: I don't think Foye has to make up for that
- 13:16Speaker 4: the way you do with any rookie.
- 13:18Speaker 5: So I think that's helping Foye.
- 13:19Speaker 3: I would guess when you talk about free agent signings,
- 13:22Speaker 3: you know he is as good as you could find.
- 13:26Speaker 3: Christian Kirk was big, Say Jones was big, or Robertson
- 13:29Speaker 3: Harris's turn out to be good. Evan yeah, Evan was yeah, right.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Now, there's a lot of options.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Yeah, but this guy's as good as a free agent
- 13:35Speaker 3: as they've had in Jacksonville.
- 13:37Speaker 1: I think he's great as well because he makes others better, right,
- 13:39Speaker 1: just leadership alone, the trust factory you have to have.
- 13:41Speaker 1: On defense, you can tell the people around him are
- 13:43Speaker 1: getting better because of his influence.
- 13:45Speaker 3: Well, and he plays right. He's a middle linebacker and
- 13:47Speaker 3: he's leading your team to tackles. I mean, those guys
- 13:49Speaker 3: get banged up. It's always there's an injury report. He's
- 13:52Speaker 3: always on the practice field. He's exactly the kind of
- 13:55Speaker 3: guy you want leading your defense and on your salary
- 13:57Speaker 3: cap because you get what you pay for.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Absolutely, another big play, although you wouldn't know from what
- 14:02Speaker 1: Alan Michael's call of it was, was Christian Kirk's go
- 14:05Speaker 1: ahead touchdown late Just to see what he's been able
- 14:09Speaker 1: to do. Obviously his connection with Trevor, but just he
- 14:11Speaker 1: said he doesn't think he's ran that fast sins College maybe,
- 14:15Speaker 1: but just to get around and find the end zone
- 14:17Speaker 1: on that one was pretty impressive.
- 14:19Speaker 4: Well, look, they are an offense run There's been so
- 14:23Speaker 4: much talk about White and Calvin really get the ball
- 14:26Speaker 4: well because they have players like this to also get
- 14:29Speaker 4: the ball.
- 14:31Speaker 5: This was a huge play at a huge moment.
- 14:33Speaker 4: It sort of goes back to what you were talking about, Brian,
- 14:36Speaker 4: Christian Kirk, Puya Lua Khan Zay Jones. What struck you
- 14:40Speaker 4: last year was that these guys felt like they had
- 14:43Speaker 4: been with this franchise their whole career.
- 14:46Speaker 5: The day they walked in the door.
- 14:47Speaker 4: You're so used to their jag Wars players, their core players.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Christian Kirk is just ultra reliable, ultra smart. He's the
- 14:58Speaker 4: kind of guy you sort of expect to make plays
- 15:00Speaker 4: like this. It was an outstanding play. And I'll go
- 15:04Speaker 4: back to what I was saying about the offense. Everybody's
- 15:08Speaker 4: talking right now about what the offense isn't. The offense
- 15:12Speaker 4: made huge plays laid against Buffalo to win that game.
- 15:14Speaker 4: They made a huge play to win this game. They
- 15:16Speaker 4: made a huge play to win the Colts game in
- 15:19Speaker 4: Week one. Worry about what they're doing in big moments
- 15:24Speaker 4: more than what if they're sporadic in the third quarter.
- 15:28Speaker 4: They're making plays when they happen. This was a huge
- 15:30Speaker 4: play that for years this team didn't make. Everybody forgets
- 15:33Speaker 4: about this because they went X of X on third downs.
- 15:37Speaker 5: Big plays in big moments.
- 15:38Speaker 3: Do you remember on opening Day in Indianapolis when Christian
- 15:40Speaker 3: Kirk was a complete non factor, right, I mean everyone
- 15:43Speaker 3: Calvin Ridley got all the balls. Well, here we are
- 15:47Speaker 3: and Christian Kirk. Christian Kirk is that guy. And you
- 15:50Speaker 3: would expect that if on Sunday in Pittsburgh he has
- 15:53Speaker 3: two catches for thirty six yards, he'll be the same guy.
- 15:56Speaker 3: Even postgame locker room than he was after the win
- 15:59Speaker 3: in New Orleans. He is a tremendous person as well
- 16:03Speaker 3: as a tremendous player. And you know, you just you
- 16:05Speaker 3: got to give the general manager and the head coach
- 16:07Speaker 3: a lot of credit for the players that they brought
- 16:09Speaker 3: in here last year because for this offense to be
- 16:11Speaker 3: performing at such a high level, even without performing at
- 16:15Speaker 3: this high level as we expect them to, but what
- 16:18Speaker 3: they've done the last four weeks, Christian Kirk is an
- 16:21Speaker 3: excellent example of a guy who's overpaid right right, I.
- 16:25Speaker 1: Mean attitude attitude alone, not to mention what he does
- 16:28Speaker 1: in the field, because when you see some of these
- 16:29Speaker 1: other players, Stefan Diggs smashing tablets, you see Derek Karkhan
- 16:33Speaker 1: out his offensive coordinator to fact to not have that
- 16:36Speaker 1: drama and gone through what they've gone through, that can
- 16:40Speaker 1: do a lot.
- 16:41Speaker 3: He and the quarterback clearly have a special relationship worth
- 16:44Speaker 3: every penny.
- 16:45Speaker 4: Well the chemistry there, and then we're moving on the
- 16:51Speaker 4: smashing tablets and you get the idea that Zay and
- 16:58Speaker 4: Christian and I think out and fits into this pretty
- 17:01Speaker 4: well for being a new guy. Evan, if one of
- 17:04Speaker 4: them smashed the tablet. The other three'd big, what are
- 17:07Speaker 4: you doing?
- 17:08Speaker 5: What are you doing?
- 17:09Speaker 4: Like it would be so out of place that it
- 17:12Speaker 4: would be weird. So I think they'd be uncomfortable doing
- 17:16Speaker 4: it because it would sort of make you look like,
- 17:18Speaker 4: come on now, that's not what we do here, which
- 17:20Speaker 4: is cool.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Yeah, it's the less a term because they have no
- 17:25Speaker 3: less Pretty great.
- 17:27Speaker 1: All right, Let's also talk about that goal line stand.
- 17:30Speaker 1: We got to give Buster Brown or Monteric Brown his
- 17:32Speaker 1: shout out because he was.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Getting thrown at.
- 17:34Speaker 1: The ball was going his way a lot, but he
- 17:36Speaker 1: came up big when he needed to in the end there.
- 17:38Speaker 1: And I know there was that one touchdown drop right beforehand,
- 17:41Speaker 1: but that whole goal line stand, I mean, they held
- 17:43Speaker 1: what they needed to hold. And part of that was
- 17:44Speaker 1: Derek Carr not being able to get anything going, but
- 17:47Speaker 1: that was because the defense made things really difficult for them.
- 17:49Speaker 3: You know, he struggled against Michael Pittman. And Michael Pittman
- 17:53Speaker 3: is a big, tall receiver and he's not a big
- 17:55Speaker 3: tall corner, but he has a lot of confidence. And
- 17:57Speaker 3: I spent time with him in the locker room last
- 17:58Speaker 3: week and he reminded me that he led the sec
- 18:02Speaker 3: in interceptions his senior year at Arkansas. He knows how
- 18:05Speaker 3: to play the ball, and I was impressed last week
- 18:08Speaker 3: with his calm demeanor and his real studious approach to
- 18:12Speaker 3: the game. For young guy who's gonna go in there
- 18:14Speaker 3: and get his first start in prime time against Michael
- 18:17Speaker 3: Thomas and Chris Alabe, I mean, he's an impressive kid
- 18:20Speaker 3: and hopefully he continues to get opportunities to develop.
- 18:24Speaker 4: Yeah, he made big plays and big moments, and to
- 18:27Speaker 4: me in this day and age, that's what defense is.
- 18:31Speaker 4: You don't shut opponents down because the league doesn't want
- 18:33Speaker 4: you to shut offenses down right now. But if you
- 18:36Speaker 4: make plays in the big moments, then you're a good player.
- 18:41Speaker 5: He gets the memas well.
- 18:42Speaker 4: It would have been tied had that guy just caught
- 18:44Speaker 4: the ball for the Saints. Kai was around the Patriots forever.
- 18:50Speaker 4: The Patriots had tons of games during their run where
- 18:53Speaker 4: the other team could have done this. There's elements in
- 18:57Speaker 4: the NFL nobody plays perfectly. You have to take advantage
- 19:00Speaker 4: of that kind of break when you get it and
- 19:02Speaker 4: make the play on the next play. I can think
- 19:06Speaker 4: of many Jaguars teams that would have gotten that break
- 19:09Speaker 4: on third down and the quarterback would have walked in
- 19:11Speaker 4: on a quarterback four down on fourth down, and it's
- 19:15Speaker 4: thirty four to thirty one in overtime and you're like, ah,
- 19:17Speaker 4: same legit, you know.
- 19:17Speaker 5: So again, let's worry about what the Jaguars are doing.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Right.
- 19:22Speaker 4: They're not flawless, but they're five and two and they've
- 19:25Speaker 4: won four games in a row and they're making plays
- 19:27Speaker 4: and that's what That's what you build playoff runs on.
- 19:31Speaker 5: Are moments like that.
- 19:32Speaker 3: I just want to go back to a point out one
- 19:33Speaker 3: thing for people who see this highlight again his sense
- 19:37Speaker 3: of the ball right, because he engages a Larvae and
- 19:39Speaker 3: pushes him outside and then it's like the clock in
- 19:42Speaker 3: his head goes off and he turns back to the inside.
- 19:44Speaker 3: If he had waited a second longer, Alave may have
- 19:47Speaker 3: gotten that ball. But his sense of what to do
- 19:50Speaker 3: in the passing game fine tuned, obviously, but created at
- 19:54Speaker 3: Arkansas fine tuned. Tier he turned back to the ball,
- 19:58Speaker 3: he's again, he's one of those young jars on the shelf,
- 20:01Speaker 3: a guy that you need when Tyson Campbell's out. Hopefully
- 20:03Speaker 3: you don't have to play with Tyson on the sideline
- 20:05Speaker 3: very long, but you feel a lot more comfortable when
- 20:09Speaker 3: you have a guy like Monterek.
- 20:10Speaker 4: Well, he's a guy all of a sudden next year
- 20:13Speaker 4: when you can't keep everybody because of the cap yep Uh.
- 20:16Speaker 4: I don't know that he'll play a lot when Tyson
- 20:19Speaker 4: comes back, but you don't feel bad about him if
- 20:22Speaker 4: he has to play in the future now. And that's
- 20:24Speaker 4: what you have to have out of low round draft
- 20:26Speaker 4: picks at some point, at some point, those guys have
- 20:29Speaker 4: to be playing in their third and fourth year.
- 20:31Speaker 3: He and Gregory Junior were picked almost back to back
- 20:33Speaker 3: in the sixth and seventh rounds, and they have a
- 20:34Speaker 3: lot of uh of the hope of excitement for what
- 20:38Speaker 3: Gregory Junior can be too.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Shit says a lot about where this team's at right now.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Cause they're drafting. These guys can work on things, whether
- 20:43Speaker 1: it's practice squad or playing behind someone else, and then
- 20:46Speaker 1: when their you know number is called, they're ready to
- 20:48Speaker 1: step into that role. And that's part of my hot takes.
- 20:51Speaker 1: So I won't get too too into that as well,
- 20:53Speaker 1: but we're gonna come back have our full hot takes
- 20:55Speaker 1: on the Jaguar team. That's five and two.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Jags fans.
- 21:10Speaker 1: You need to head to Publics located at Etown Exchange
- 21:13Speaker 1: tomorrow to meet Jacksonville Jaguars players for a special appearance
- 21:16Speaker 1: from five to six. Again, that's the Public's as an
- 21:19Speaker 1: Etown Parkway in Jacksonville on Tuesday. That's tomorrow, October twenty fourth,
- 21:23Speaker 1: from five to six. You can meet some of the
- 21:25Speaker 1: Jaguars players, especially good time to meet them after they've
- 21:28Speaker 1: been playing so well. We all have similar hot takes,
- 21:31Speaker 1: but they're all a little bit different. So Brian, I'll
- 21:32Speaker 1: let you go first.
- 21:33Speaker 3: All right, So I click on the clickbait on the
- 21:37Speaker 3: power rankings on Tuesday, even though against them it's just opinion.
- 21:42Speaker 3: But you know, when you the last couple weeks, I've
- 21:44Speaker 3: looked at the top five or six teams and yeah, okay,
- 21:46Speaker 3: I mean those are all the top five or six teams,
- 21:48Speaker 3: and then the Jaguars come in at seven, right, and
- 21:52Speaker 3: it makes sense to me, except yesterday it didn't. I
- 21:54Speaker 3: looked at every team and I come away with a
- 21:57Speaker 3: conclusion that the Jaguar as good as any team in
- 21:58Speaker 3: the league. Right, I mean a city has the best quarterback,
- 22:02Speaker 3: but they struggled with the Chargers, who are not that
- 22:05Speaker 3: good this year. It took them until the fourth quarter
- 22:08Speaker 3: to put that one away. The Eagles didn't look all
- 22:10Speaker 3: that great. The Dolphins scored seventy But since then, what
- 22:12Speaker 3: have they done? And you look at the teams that
- 22:14Speaker 3: they've beaten. I mean that, don't get me wrong. They
- 22:16Speaker 3: have real speed, they're really good, but they're not that
- 22:18Speaker 3: much better than the Jaguars. You know, the only team
- 22:21Speaker 3: that was really good yesterday was the Ravens, and of
- 22:24Speaker 3: course it was probably Lamar's best game. But will will
- 22:28Speaker 3: they do that next week?
- 22:29Speaker 2: Right?
- 22:30Speaker 3: They've had their down moments this year too. I think
- 22:33Speaker 3: that there's a clear delineation, you know, between the top
- 22:35Speaker 3: seven or eight teams in this league, and the Jaguars
- 22:36Speaker 3: are in it. And they played the Chiefs tough, they
- 22:39Speaker 3: beat the Bills. We got the Bengals coming up and
- 22:42Speaker 3: the Ravens later in the year, so we're gonna see.
- 22:43Speaker 3: But I leave, you know, week seven behind thinking the
- 22:46Speaker 3: Jaguars are as good as any team in the league.
- 22:49Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm with you. I think that.
- 22:50Speaker 4: I think they're clearing the top seven. Philadelphia's lines that
- 22:55Speaker 4: are really impressive. They are Patrick Mahomes is Patrick Mahomes
- 22:58Speaker 4: and I think San Francisco Go. I would put those
- 23:01Speaker 4: three teams maybe a smidge, But I'm not saying that
- 23:04Speaker 4: the Jaguars can't go beat any of those teams, right,
- 23:06Speaker 4: I just think those teams right now. To me, I
- 23:10Speaker 4: will be surprised if one of those three teams isn't
- 23:12Speaker 4: holding the trophy at the end of the year. But
- 23:14Speaker 4: I don't think. But I would not be shocked if
- 23:17Speaker 4: the Jaguars are in that mix.
- 23:18Speaker 3: Especially based on what they just did. Yeah, I mean
- 23:21Speaker 3: winning for a row. Yeah, that's why I left thinking
- 23:24Speaker 3: what they did was so impressive. John. It makes your
- 23:26Speaker 3: point that they can go do it. There's nobody that
- 23:30Speaker 3: you look at and go where they can't beat them.
- 23:32Speaker 5: Right Exactly in the mix I went with, please, do
- 23:37Speaker 5: you're gonna start a fight?
- 23:37Speaker 2: I'm already excited.
- 23:38Speaker 4: They're a good deal with it.
- 23:43Speaker 5: You guys would be stunned.
- 23:45Speaker 2: I don't think I would.
- 23:46Speaker 4: Here's my email subjects. Trevor's a game manager, Calvin Ridley's.
- 23:52Speaker 5: A bus.
- 23:54Speaker 4: They can't protect leads. Well, all Trevor's doing right now
- 23:58Speaker 4: is making plays in the end of games to win.
- 24:00Speaker 4: Calvin Ridley without him, do you win Week one or
- 24:04Speaker 4: the Bills? I don't think you win either of those games.
- 24:07Speaker 4: So if you do the math, Calvin Ridley has mattered
- 24:11Speaker 4: in two of their five wins where I'm not sure
- 24:14Speaker 4: you win without them. So to me, he contributes, and
- 24:17Speaker 4: the whole, the whole, protecting leads things drive me up
- 24:20Speaker 4: the wall.
- 24:21Speaker 5: Can't protect leads. You have not trailed since you lost
- 24:26Speaker 5: to the Houston Texans. Jaguars.
- 24:29Speaker 4: Fans for sixteen years, haven't been five and two, Brian.
- 24:34Speaker 5: They're adopting, Well, it's been.
- 24:38Speaker 4: It's been the abyss of football here a lot for
- 24:42Speaker 4: a decade and a half. This is what you waited
- 24:47Speaker 4: for to be five and two, to be good, to
- 24:51Speaker 4: be able to go win games and clutch moments. I
- 24:55Speaker 4: don't know if they've win a super Bowl. You're not
- 24:57Speaker 4: guaranteed super bowls. I hope they do. But these are
- 25:00Speaker 4: the good times, and these are the good times.
- 25:04Speaker 3: I'm afraid. Who's a sports psychologist, Maybe we could get
- 25:08Speaker 3: him on. It stuns me that people are not just
- 25:12Speaker 3: enjoying this right. It doesn't mean this is what they
- 25:15Speaker 3: waited for. Oh yeah, and if you understand the NFL,
- 25:19Speaker 3: and clearly some people don't, some people still think this
- 25:22Speaker 3: is college football it's just played on Sundays in the
- 25:25Speaker 3: post of Saturdays and the Gators or the Bulldogs or
- 25:28Speaker 3: Alabama or choose your team, Michigan, USC. If you don't
- 25:31Speaker 3: win by forty seven points, then I mean, how are
- 25:33Speaker 3: you gonna climb in the polls?
- 25:35Speaker 5: Right?
- 25:35Speaker 3: It doesn't matter at all. And real football fans know
- 25:37Speaker 3: that it matters that you win and that you get
- 25:42Speaker 3: you get better as the season goes along.
- 25:44Speaker 4: And Doug even spoke to that after the game very
- 25:47Speaker 4: quickly when he was talking about the blowout thing. He said,
- 25:52Speaker 4: it's just not you know, teams are too good to
- 25:56Speaker 4: blow him out. And I think he feels that as
- 25:59Speaker 4: a head coach, a play caller, meaning in the second
- 26:02Speaker 4: half of games, even when you're up, even when they
- 26:06Speaker 4: were up on Thursday by fifteen points, right, did you
- 26:09Speaker 4: feel like they had dominated the game? Not real like
- 26:13Speaker 4: they were up by seven and then you get the break,
- 26:15Speaker 4: which is the interception return. And I think Doug at
- 26:17Speaker 4: that point is like, Okay, we're probably not dominant.
- 26:21Speaker 5: In this game.
- 26:22Speaker 4: Let's manage this and get out of here, as opposed
- 26:25Speaker 4: to you know, so I think coaches, when they're trying
- 26:28Speaker 4: to call games and manage it.
- 26:30Speaker 5: Maybe have a feel for that a little better than.
- 26:32Speaker 4: Fans of Okay, we're not really going to blow this
- 26:36Speaker 4: team out, so let's make sure we win it and
- 26:39Speaker 4: not worry about scoreboard pageantry.
- 26:43Speaker 3: Hey, just another example yesterday, how about did you think
- 26:46Speaker 3: that the Gardner Minshew led Colts who turned the ball
- 26:49Speaker 3: over endless amounts of time here and then and then
- 26:53Speaker 3: would be able to play with the Cleveland Browns defense?
- 26:56Speaker 3: How were they going to score? And yet they put
- 26:58Speaker 3: up over four hundred yards on on a defense. It's
- 27:00Speaker 3: as good as there is in the NFL. It's talented.
- 27:03Speaker 3: If you watch the game, you know exactly what I'm saying.
- 27:07Speaker 3: It's a week It's a week win. However, you can
- 27:09Speaker 3: win one hundred percent win. However, you can remember the
- 27:13Speaker 3: Arizona Cardinals are now one and six, but they beat
- 27:15Speaker 3: the Dallas Cowboys.
- 27:17Speaker 1: I don't understand anything anymore any given Sunday, for sure,
- 27:20Speaker 1: my hot take is it's time to go all in.
- 27:22Speaker 1: I agree with everything you guys have said so far.
- 27:24Speaker 1: This team is very firmly in the mix, and that
- 27:27Speaker 1: means you need to add whatever you need to add.
- 27:28Speaker 1: The trade deadlines coming up next Tuesday. If it's pass rush.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Do it, Go out and get your guy. They have
- 27:33Speaker 1: ten to eleven draft picks next year. I don't need
- 27:36Speaker 1: to see another year where they get fourteen plus draft
- 27:38Speaker 1: picks in there. This team is at a good spot
- 27:40Speaker 1: where they're at, and if it takes draft picks to
- 27:42Speaker 1: get somebody, even if it's a rental for a year,
- 27:44Speaker 1: I think you need to do that.
- 27:46Speaker 2: It's hard to get to five and two.
- 27:47Speaker 1: It's hard to get within that mix where we're at
- 27:49Speaker 1: a point now where I feel the dag wars havy.
- 27:51Speaker 1: But I don't go into a game and say they
- 27:52Speaker 1: have no chance. They always have a chance. And now
- 27:55Speaker 1: that we're there, we need to give every little piece
- 27:57Speaker 1: of ammunition that you can give. And I think for
- 27:59Speaker 1: this team might be adding a pass rusher, if somehow
- 28:02Speaker 1: you can get somebody on offensive line, do that, but
- 28:04Speaker 1: just add to those holes so that they're ready when
- 28:06Speaker 1: it gets to that point. They have all the players
- 28:08Speaker 1: that think.
- 28:08Speaker 3: I think that you're right, which is different for me
- 28:11Speaker 3: because I don't like mortgaging the future of the salary cap.
- 28:14Speaker 3: You've got Trevor, You've got Tyson, You've probably got Josh Allen.
- 28:18Speaker 3: You may have Calvin Ridley, Andre Cisco. You've got a
- 28:21Speaker 3: lot of your own guys that you're gonna pay, So
- 28:23Speaker 3: if you're gonna trade something away, you're gonna want to
- 28:26Speaker 3: make sure you do the deal right, which is up
- 28:28Speaker 3: to them, so that you're not just renting right and
- 28:33Speaker 3: they're gonna be tied against the cap next year twenty
- 28:35Speaker 3: twenty five, that kicks up. But I'm with you. I
- 28:37Speaker 3: think at this point, if there's an opportunity to go
- 28:40Speaker 3: and swing for the fences, why not.
- 28:42Speaker 5: I think there'd be the right opportunity.
- 28:43Speaker 4: I mean, it's it's gonna be a huge topic, and
- 28:47Speaker 4: it's gonna be a pass rush, pass rush, pass rusher.
- 28:51Speaker 4: They'll look at it, yeah, but they also have to
- 28:54Speaker 4: realize that you've got Trevor Lawrence in his third year.
- 29:00Speaker 4: They want this to be a twelve more year thing
- 29:02Speaker 4: with him. They don't feel like their window closes after
- 29:05Speaker 4: this year. So I don't know that they push every
- 29:06Speaker 4: chip in if they think it's going to hurt them
- 29:08Speaker 4: down the road.
- 29:09Speaker 5: And it's got to be the right fit.
- 29:10Speaker 4: I mean, it can't be a guy who comes in
- 29:13Speaker 4: and doesn't fit what this team is right now.
- 29:16Speaker 5: So you know, if it's there.
- 29:18Speaker 4: I want him to do it, but they have to
- 29:20Speaker 4: be smart about it, and I think they will well.
- 29:22Speaker 3: And who saw the Christian McCaffrey trade coming last year, right?
- 29:26Speaker 3: I don't know that I would have identified running back
- 29:28Speaker 3: as that need for the San Francisco forty nine ers,
- 29:31Speaker 3: but it meant everything to them, and obviously he's been
- 29:33Speaker 3: a great player for them. So if it is that guy,
- 29:36Speaker 3: and I don't know whether it's the Hunter guy in
- 29:37Speaker 3: Minnesota or or whoever it is that you're talking about,
- 29:40Speaker 3: if it is that guy that you can then push
- 29:42Speaker 3: out into three, four, five years from now when the
- 29:46Speaker 3: cap is big, then go. You know, and Swing Jagers
- 29:50Speaker 3: have done this before in their history. They've traded for
- 29:52Speaker 3: Reagan Upshaw. I remember in ninety nine they had a
- 29:54Speaker 3: great team, but they thought they needed just that one.
- 29:56Speaker 3: He didn't do anything and he was just a rental,
- 29:57Speaker 3: so they didn't get anything from it. Make sure you're
- 30:00Speaker 3: gonna get something from it.
- 30:02Speaker 2: I have to see what they do. We like to
- 30:04Speaker 2: predict these things, but we never really know.
- 30:05Speaker 1: All right, say, well, this will preview what we've got
- 30:07Speaker 1: coming up the rest of the week. Move the freight,
- 30:18Speaker 1: Move the freight, Magellan Transport voted the coolest office space

- 30:34Speaker 1: So we had a little bit of a long weekend off.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Now we're back here for this week and then it's
- 30:38Speaker 1: the bye week, so we are looking forward to that
- 30:40Speaker 1: game against the Steelers and kind of is this where
- 30:42Speaker 1: you expected the team to be at?
- 30:43Speaker 2: Are you?
- 30:43Speaker 1: Are they above where you were hoping they'd be at
- 30:45Speaker 1: around this, probably a little above.
- 30:46Speaker 3: I mean, if I had an objective perspective on it
- 30:49Speaker 3: at the beginning of the season, n I thought they
- 30:50Speaker 3: might be four and three, you know, not knowing the
- 30:53Speaker 3: London thing. So they're ahead. Plus the four games that
- 30:57Speaker 3: they've won through all the circumstances We've said six times
- 31:01Speaker 3: is really really impressive to me, So I'd say they're
- 31:03Speaker 3: ahead of worthy.
- 31:04Speaker 5: Yeah, and I think it's a real opportunity.
- 31:07Speaker 4: I don't know that the Steelers are great, but they're
- 31:11Speaker 4: pretty good and they got a game wrecker, so it's
- 31:15Speaker 4: another opportunity for the Jags. Really, you feel like they've
- 31:19Speaker 4: put the Colts where you can keep in the rear view.
- 31:24Speaker 4: There are now two games up on Buffalo, which you
- 31:27Speaker 4: think will I mean, they have the tiebreaker on him.
- 31:30Speaker 4: This is another chance to get a team sort of down.
- 31:33Speaker 4: You know, the Steelers are right there. I think they're
- 31:35Speaker 4: four and three, Yes, so you're five and two. Now
- 31:38Speaker 4: it's a chance to sort of get them to where. Okay,
- 31:41Speaker 4: now you've got to get three more on us and
- 31:45Speaker 4: those things will start mattering pretty Simon.
- 31:47Speaker 3: Well, and you know, you hope to get Walker little
- 31:49Speaker 3: Lindsay Jones back on the practice field this week, and
- 31:51Speaker 3: Devon Hamilton's practicing again. I don't know if he plays
- 31:54Speaker 3: this week or if they wait till after the bye,
- 31:56Speaker 3: but he's a player that makes your defense, which is
- 31:58Speaker 3: already playing so well, gui that much better. I mean,
- 32:01Speaker 3: there's real reasons for optimism for this team. And if
- 32:04Speaker 3: they're ahead of schedule and we're optimistic, man, they're doing
- 32:07Speaker 3: something right.
- 32:08Speaker 5: Yeah, they have it set up.
- 32:09Speaker 1: It's always nice to go into the buye. We're gonna
- 32:11Speaker 1: win too, so I'm gonna hope for that. But we'll
- 32:13Speaker 1: get into the nitty gritty of the Steelers game a
- 32:15Speaker 1: little bit later on in the week. We'll see you
- 32:16Speaker 1: right back here on JAG's Am on Wednesday.
