- 1:25and Chapman Bill Ryan Nicholson is our producer today, and of course it's Friday
- 1:29Funhouse, and yeah, we know everybody knows. The big story is Joe
- 1:33Manchon and Joe Manchin seeking not we'll see actually deciding not to seek it of
- 1:38the term in the US Senates. So I'm not going to get into that
- 1:42today. Part of the rules of Friday Funhouse, Hoppy though, we'll have
- 1:46not only in probably the entire show devoted to that, but Hoppy is also
- 1:49going to have Senator Mansion himself on the show at eleven o six, So
- 1:53it's going to be must listen to radio with Hoppy and a Senator Mansion at
- 1:59eleven o six this morning on Talk Like Coming up on this show this morning,
- 2:02We've got Chris Lawrence standing by high school football as our coverage begins to
- 2:06night. We want to talk about that with Chris. John Robertson will be
- 2:07stopping by to talk about the Capital City Arts and Crafts Fair. We have
- 2:12a big thing going on here next week. We call it the Turkey Drop.
- 2:15Rob Reeal from her sister station, Superstar Country ninety six to one KWS.
- 2:20I'm going to stop by the studios to talk about that's plus. My
- 2:23guest host this week is Morgan Morrison of Rock City Cake Company here in Charleston.
- 2:29Morgan, good morning, how are you. Good morning, Dave.
- 2:30It is awesome to be here. I'm excited. Welcome to the show.
- 2:34Now. You told me we were talking back before last night that you listened
- 2:38to some of the other shows and the one that you chose to listen to
- 2:40to get the idea was Tony the Taylor. Yes, of all the ones,
- 2:45I had to find the most unhinged one to make sure this was for
- 2:47me. There you go, and well that's that doesn't get much more unhinged
- 2:52than that. We're going to talk about some things going on with Rock City,
- 2:53but also about Holly Jolly Brawley and the Downtown Business Association that you're part
- 2:59of, and Plush to play ten questions. Let's go to Chris Lawrence talk
- 3:01high school football. Hey man, what's up? Speaking of that Joe Manchin
- 3:06story that of course broke yesterday right after Hotline hit the air, And you
- 3:09know the rules on Hotline no politics zone, we do not talk about.
- 3:14You know, that's Weekly's big thing. Well, you can't ignore that,
- 3:16so I told him, I said, get Hoppy, So they got Hoppy
- 3:21on. Hoppy came on, did a great job, as he always does,
- 3:23the most Dave Weekly thing ever. As soon as Hoppy has broken this
- 3:27huge story, Weekly goes I was big Coop. We violated our own rules.
- 3:32By the way, it's National Chicken Sandwich Day, which is more nih
- 3:38Lane. I saw that you commented on the X about that. I thought
- 3:44that was the most Dave Weekly thing ever. Indeed, high school football tonight
- 3:47and tomorrow and tomorrow, Yes, indeed, we've got a couple of games
- 3:51for you this weekend. We try to bring as many local teams to you
- 3:53as we can, and we've had an opportunity to do that today and tomorrow.
- 3:58So tonight we will be at Jim McGee field, Redskins Stadium and Hurricane
- 4:01where the number four Redskins are hosting the number thirteen Parkersburg Big Reds. It's
- 4:06ironic that these two are in the same conference yet did not play this year.
- 4:11They've played about every team they've played the other one is played, so
- 4:15it's not like they're unfamiliar with them. But that kicks off at seven thirty
- 4:18tonight. We'll be on the air at seven from out there should be a
- 4:21good matchup. And then tomorrow afternoon, for those of you who are Herbert
- 4:26Hoover fans, we're going to go on the road with Hoover and bring you
- 4:30tomorrow's game between the Huskies and East Fairmont from the historic East West Stadium in
- 4:35a rather odd start time. They're going to kick that one off at four
- 4:39o'clock tomorrow afternoon, and we'll go on the air with the Coomax pregame show
- 4:44at three point thirty. Now you're wondering, probably because we've been talking about
- 4:46the fact that our Metro News game day coverage of the Mountaineers in the Oklahoma
- 4:50game starts at three. That's what's going to happen there. We'll start it
- 4:54here at three ONCHWCHS, but it will also be simulcast over on ESPN Radio
- 5:00AM fourteen ninety and FM ONEZH six point seven, and then we're going to
- 5:05break away at three point thirty through the Hoover game, and then we'll come
- 5:09back. But if you want to catch the pregame show with Hoppy and Brad
- 5:13and the crew, you can listen over there on ESPN until we're back after
- 5:16the Hoover game. Okay, all right, all good. I mean,
- 5:18this is Fred and I talked about it yesterday. Man, the most wonderful
- 5:21time of the year. Yes, I and I woke up this morning when
- 5:25I when I left the house about seven o'clock, it was pouring the rain
- 5:28in Tays Valley, and I'm thinking, I'm loving this. This is what
- 5:30high school football is supposed to be. Yeah, you're not loving as much
- 5:33as the guys that division of forestry. That's very true. That is very
- 5:38true. All right. Speaking of which, because I know you've been in
- 5:41contact with those guys. With all the rain that we've had here, is
- 5:44this I mean, because we've had a lot of rain the last couple hours.
- 5:46Is it enough? Never enough? Really? Well? I mean I
- 5:48guess there is a limit because you don't want to flood, But I don't
- 5:51know that it's going to be enough to dampen the forest to the point they
- 5:56like it where the threat is gone, and in some parts of the state
- 6:00they're probably not getting a lot of this. And it's supposed to clear up
- 6:01this afternoon. Win's going to start blowing with this front coming in and that'll
- 6:04just dry things right back out, and then tomorrow is supposed to be sunny
- 6:08and pretty again. So that's, uh, that's an issue. But at
- 6:11least maybe for this morning, they're getting an opportunity to have a donut and
- 6:14some coffee and yeah, and do something truck and watch a little bit after
- 6:17the games tonight. Of course you want to be sticking around for Fred and
- 6:21Dave and the crew with the Metro News Game night. Now tomorrow morning you're
- 6:26in with the Outdoors Show. What do you got tomorrow morning? Seven oh
- 6:29six. Well, I was trying to think I've got We're all over the
- 6:30place tomorrow. I got a story with with some of the Natural Resources Police
- 6:34where we were talking about they recently took a lot of children in West Virginia
- 6:40hunting, including some from the UH school with the deafen blind on the the
- 6:44the hunting. This the youth hunting Day, so we'll talk about that.
- 6:47Also, there was another huge buck killed in Gilmore County. We'll talk to
- 6:50the guy who killed that. There's a guy from Huntington who's now a professional
- 6:56fishing guy in Tennessee, but he has been He also makes lures and one
- 7:00of his lures won an international award. We'll talk to him. And you
- 7:04may have seen this and it has created kind of a stir over in the
- 7:09eastern panineal A deer that had rabies was killed and people have unnecessarily panicked over
- 7:16that, and I think that's largely because the media. But we're going to
- 7:19try to set the record straight on that it is not cause for a gigantic
- 7:23alarm and panic, just an awareness and we'll talk to the dn r's folks
- 7:29in that part of the state about it tomorrow. All right, Chris,
- 7:31have a great broadcast. You in the team that night. Thanks a lot
- 7:33ry, dude, Thanks for having me in. All right, Chris Lawrence
- 7:35Again, our coverage will begin tonight for Hurricane of Parkersburg seven o'clock the tomorrow
- 7:41afternoon. Herbert Hoover traveled of north three thirty or start time for that one
- 7:45here, So there you go. There's your high school football report from Chris
- 7:48Lawrence. All right, let's go to Hannah Gardner with our Adopt Me Please
- 7:51Pet of the Week from the Kendal Charleston Newmane Association. Hannah, good morning,
- 7:55how are you. I'm great? How are you? I'm doing fine?
- 7:59Meat Morgan our good friend from Rock City who is our guest host today.
- 8:03Hi, Hannah, how are you. I'm so excited to do this
- 8:05part because I am obsessed with this dog. I saw a picture. Oh
- 8:11yeah, I'm good and she is the sweetest thing. All right. So
- 8:16the dog's name is Mani, and so we have the picture posted on Dave
- 8:22Allen Radio, on Facebook and also on x on the Dave Allen Show on
- 8:26Exles. Talk about Minnie. Hannah, go ahead, all right, so
- 8:31many she is a female little girl. She's about six months old. So
- 8:39she's still a puppy. She's still playful, she's still all that puppy puppy
- 8:43energy. But however, she is very shy when you first meet her.
- 8:50She's she's not mean in any way whatsoever. She's just shy, kind of
- 8:56put back a little bit. It takes her any to warm up to you.
- 9:00But once she wants up to you. She is possibly the sweetest little
- 9:05dog, sheets little puppy ever. She just wants to sweet up right next
- 9:09to you and she'll lay her head on your legs. She's very very sweet,
- 9:13but she is playful with other dogs. She's still learning to walk on
- 9:18the leash a little bit. She's again she's still a puppy, so she's
- 9:20still learning everything. What we've noticed. She is very kid friendly. Again,
- 9:28she's just very scared. So if you do have kids, or even
- 9:31if it's on your own, we always advise caution just believing them and learn
- 9:35together. We don't recommend believing kids and animals learning together anyways, no matter
- 9:41how long you've had them. But she is a very very sweet girl.
- 9:45She's microchips, she's got her vaccinations, and she came in as escape us
- 9:50along with her siblings, who I believe is already adopted. So she just
- 9:54needs to hold herself, you know. And another thing I notice about her
- 9:58picture too, she just has the sweetest eyes and just this big nose and
- 10:03it just completely melts your heart. And I always say, you know,
- 10:07I have two dogs at home, guys, and the personality they have on
- 10:09their puppies is kind of what they take with them through their lives. So
- 10:13the fact is she's this sweet that pretty much just tells you she's going to
- 10:16be sweet forever. And I love her. I'd take her home myself if
- 10:20I could. Oh. Yeah, she's very very sweet, and she's around
- 10:26pretty ish pounds, so she's gonna be a bigger dog. She's very very
- 10:31sweet though, and she deserves a really really good home. She's really sweet
- 10:35one. She warms up to you, and she would become a social buttonfly,
- 10:39I'm sure with everyone once she got out of the shelter and got to
- 10:43see what it's like being in a home. Yeah, she's a beautiful dog
- 10:46to give. If you want to see the picture, go over to Dave
- 10:48Allen Radio and Facebook or the Dave Allen Show on X. The artist formerly
- 10:54known as Twitter. What kind of dog do you have? Any idea?
- 10:56What kind of dog? Meaning is? I do not? How Ever,
- 11:00I mean if I had to guess, if I had to throw some guests
- 11:03out there, I would say maybe a little bit of shepherd maybe, but
- 11:09definitely if I had to put money on it, I would say like a
- 11:13black and tan coonhound mixed with maybe like a shepherd or something. But she's
- 11:20she's full blooded sweet. That's what she is, full blooded sweet. That's
- 11:24the official the official description, official title. By the way, it is
- 11:28happy Animal. It's Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, Hannah, So Happy Animal Shelter
- 11:35Appreciation Week. Thank you. We are loving, loving on all the dogs
- 11:41and play and let them. I want to talk about the I want to
- 11:45talk go ahead, hand I'm sorry, go ahead. I was just saying,
- 11:48so come on out and about yeah, exactly. I want to talk
- 11:52about cats for a moment now. I did a little research. As of
- 11:54earlier this week, you all had about forty or so cats available for adoption,
- 11:56well over one hundred that were there because they're still being cared for it
- 12:01in one way or the other. We we talk a lot about dogs on
- 12:03this show, but you've always got cats available too. Yes, yes,
- 12:07and we'll have to do another one soon. But yes, we do have
- 12:11a lot of cats and kittens right now. So if you do want to
- 12:15come out, I know that until Sunday, adoptions are fifty percent off.
- 12:20So it's just where we have such haigh capacity right now, So come out
- 12:26and adopt there everything, cat's kittens, puppies included. Even so everything is
- 12:31fifty all there, you go, it'd be a great time to get many.
- 12:35Now I'm just dropping a hint there more. I know I might have
- 12:39to pay a visit later and come meet Minnie. Is she just readily available
- 12:43for me to come love on today? Oh yeah, she is? There
- 12:46you go, there you go. I guess I have afternoon plans forget about
- 12:50the cupcakes. You guys are on your own. I'm going to the towns
- 12:54Teo's on our way or that's awesome real quick here, And I know that
- 12:58you're still a some items that you need up there. All the chows,
- 13:01dog and cat chows, wet food of any kind, cat litter, blankets.
- 13:07There's a complete list available on your as Facebook page. But you're always
- 13:11in need of stuff up there. Yes, yes, we need treat,
- 13:15paper, towel, clubs, don dish, soap, litter, wetsuit of
- 13:18any kind, and like you said, all the PEERI and a dog,
- 13:24child, puppy chowd cat chow, and kitten chow. All right. We
- 13:26had a text of the show here that says, several days ago, a
- 13:28small dog is found inside of a dumpster in downtown Charleston. Does anyone know
- 13:33what's going to take to get the news media and state officials to focus on
- 13:35these evil, heartless cases and get animal into abuse neglect charges strengthened or upgraded.
- 13:41These things are becoming much too common anymore. I will say this,
- 13:45you know, by the nature of this show, not on Friday we don't
- 13:48talk politics, but the other four days we're all about politics in this show.
- 13:52I know for a fact that a lot of elected officials listen to this
- 13:54show daily, either live or available on the podcast. So if you're on
- 13:58the clock, legislators, let's let's kick some butt here. Yeah. Yeah,
- 14:03we definitely we hate seeing all of those cases that come in that are
- 14:09sad and heartbreaking, but we do everything we can that we are allowed to
- 14:15do to help and to reach out to different resources and try to get you
- 14:20know, where we're capacity. We've been having to have a lot of people
- 14:24go to rescues and stuff with some of the animals that we've been taken in
- 14:28everything that we can. Yeah, all right, Hannah, it's always a
- 14:31pleasure to talk to you. Look for Morgan. She may be paying a
- 14:35visit up there this afternoon. I will, all right, I will be
- 14:37paying a visit. I always like to visit them, all right, hand,
- 14:41we'll talk to you next week. Thanks a lot, all right,
- 14:45thank you, all right again. The dog's name is Many, six months
- 14:48old, vaccinated, microchip, not fixed yet but will be prefers, playful
- 14:52dogs, still learning to walk a little bit on the lee. Shanna tells
- 14:54me. It seems to be very kid friendly, kind of shy. Came
- 14:58in as astray. That happens a lot, but does open up after a
- 15:01while. Just a sweet, sweet dog. Can be a little bit timid.
- 15:05Weighs about forty pounds now, but will grow. And I'm only six
- 15:09months old. If she's forty pounds now, you know, we don't want
- 15:11to discourage anybody from a doctor, but you need to take that into exideration.
- 15:15It's gonna be a big old dog. Yeah, it might be about
- 15:16sixty pound dog or so. Yeah, so make sure that you got it
- 15:18if you are interested in Many. It's just a beautiful dog. Make sure
- 15:22that you've got the resources and the space available, because there's nothing worse than
- 15:26having a big old dog and not having enough you know, property for them,
- 15:31so to speak, and keeping them cooped up in the house all day
- 15:33or God forbid on the chain because if you leave dogs unchanged here and evil
- 15:37sob you absolutely are my claws really come out for animals. I feel like
- 15:41it's you just have to find the right one for you, Oh yeah,
- 15:43yeah, or the right several yeah, or the right in my case,
- 15:48the right several yeah. All right, So again, take a look at
- 15:50many's pictures available on my social media pages. Hey, the show's brought to

- 19:00I love working on. You know. They're really good people up there.
- 19:03And they actually named a dog after me. Really not not too long
- 19:06ago, and I was like, okay, I've made it in life.
- 19:10That's a dog named after Pete was it? Was it Morgan or Morris Soon?
- 19:15It was Morgan City. Yeah. It was a Rock City inspired dog.
- 19:18And I'm appy sure they named it Morgan after me, rock City rock
- 19:21Wiler. Yeah. John Robertson is here to talk about the fifty fourth annual
- 19:26Capital City arch Craft Showjohn, Good morning, how are you? Good morning?
- 19:29Glad to be with you. All right, So give us all the
- 19:32details on this arch and craft show. Fifty four years? Have you been?
- 19:34You haven't been there for all fifty four a lot of those, but
- 19:37no, I haven't been for fifty four. But you know, we had
- 19:40to postpone twenty twenty and twenty one because of COVID. So it's the fifty
- 19:45fourth show, not the fifty fourth things Okay, okay, I make sure
- 19:48we get the we get the verbiage right there. So for fifty four years,
- 19:52as things been going on at the Policy Center, and it's kind of
- 19:59the beginning of Chris a season for many of us because it kind of kicks
- 20:03things off. There's so many wonderful things there to observe and purchase at the
- 20:07show. They're made by West Virginia crafts people. Even though we have crafts
- 20:11people from six states, the majority of them are West Virginians. Awesome,
- 20:15what kind of crafts we're talking about. I will have anything from pottery to
- 20:18photography, to textiles, to quilts, to food items to forged items.
- 20:26So there's so many things. There's a variety for everyone. Okay, and
- 20:30again I know a lot of people you've been on the show. Ever since
- 20:32I've been doing the show, you can being to talk about this. A
- 20:34lot of people, Wait, they save their money and not but you need
- 20:37a whole lot of money for some of these things because they, as you
- 20:40said, the Christmas season is here. Yeah, they want to do something
- 20:42that's more unique or different. It's not reproduced in department stores and so forth,
- 20:48and it's a great place to come and find something that's kind of unique
- 20:52for that special person. That's awesome. So how many like, how many
- 20:56different vendors do you say that you have there? We have one hundred vendors
- 21:00in one hundred and sixty buos. So it's typically been we referred to as
- 21:04the largest indoor show in West Virginia. And because it is a sales show
- 21:11our craft people do well. We have a lot of folks that are interested
- 21:15in being exhibitors in the show Awesome. It's sponsored by It's also sponsored by
- 21:19the Kenosity Lions Club and at one hundred percent of the proceeds from the show
- 21:26goes to charity. None of our members are paid. It's all a volunteer
- 21:30effort and there's a lot that goes into putting this show on. It'll start
- 21:33next Year's will start in February. That's usually what it starts. Yes,
- 21:37sometimes it's even like you know, the next day you set down, you
- 21:41know with legal pad, what worked, what didn't work. But you guys
- 21:44been doing it so long over there, I think that you do a great
- 21:45job. Hey, we just happen to have and I appreciate you doing this.
- 21:48I have got a family four pack of tickets to give away and Ryan
- 21:52or Nichols and our producers standing by. So if you're calling a three right
- 21:56now at three zero four, three four five fifty eight fifty eight three zero
- 21:59four, three four five fifty eight fifty eight for call of three right now,
- 22:03we'll set you up with a family four pack of tickets for the big
- 22:07event in the Capital City Arts and Craft show. And again we're looking for
- 22:11Call of three right now at three zero four, three four five fifty eight
- 22:14fifty eight three zero four, three four five fifty eight fifty eight Call of
- 22:17three right now. I got a family four pack of tickets and those are
- 22:19good for any any time you want to know, right, you come and
- 22:22again give us those hours. And it's going to be next Friday, Saturday,
- 22:26and Sunday. So this is next weekend. Yeah, next week in
- 22:27November seventeen through nineteen. On Friday opens at two o'clock until seven o'clock,
- 22:33Saturday ten am till six pm, and Sunday noon until Okay, I was
- 22:37for some reason I was thinking it was this weekend. That's really important to
- 22:38know, Dave. Oh, Actually it's next weekend. And the six dollars
- 22:42admission for adults, one dollar for children under twelve. And also there are
- 22:47opportunities for discounts. We will have Union Missions Thanksgiving food drive truck in front
- 22:55of the facility and if you brainy a non periitial food product, you get
- 22:59a dollar discount. And also we are collecting gently used tennis shoes or sneakers
- 23:04and if you bring those in we'll also give you a discount, although you
- 23:07can't double dip. You can't tell them, See that's increat. So basically
- 23:12what you're telling me is we can help nonprofits and get very unique gifts Christmas
- 23:19presents items. These are all locally made things, and you know that's kind
- 23:22of what I'm into. I love when I receive a gift or give a
- 23:26gift. I like getting something that you can't get anywhere else. And so
- 23:29many of these things that these folks make, I mean they're doing it for
- 23:33no labor practically, because they price it. It's a labor love for them
- 23:37all right. By the way, you got a text here for you,
- 23:38John says, I'm looking textas as I'm looking for original WVU items for my
- 23:45mother for Christmas. Do you know if there are vendors that specializing this.
- 23:48There are, and there are a number of folks that are producing West Virginia
- 23:52University style. You're all ready to go for the Mountaineers this weekend. You
- 23:56got your West Virginia shirt and your West Virginia jacket. Your ready to go.
- 24:00But there are original items for WVU for Our show is not a vendor
- 24:06show. Ours is a craft show, and so the items. For the
- 24:10most part that you will see throughout the Civic Center there will be handmade craft
- 24:18items from the exhibitors, not the gutter guards and the fashion two twenties or
- 24:25people that are buying product from someone else and trying to resell them. All
- 24:27original stuff, all original. So how does somebody get involved, if they
- 24:32are a craft or if they want to be a vendor, how do they
- 24:34get right now, we're full for this for consideration next year April, they
- 24:38should send to us, email to us, or go to our Facebook page
- 24:45and messages information about pictures of their craft, a description of the price range,
- 24:52a description of their role in producing the items, and also we want
- 24:56to know how they market their product currently. Okay, so, and it's
- 25:00not going to let people show up to sell these, So you've got to
- 25:03have some proof that you're legit on this, that you're actually an original,
- 25:06original craft. John, do you find that young people are getting involved in
- 25:11this sort of thing anymore? I mean, what's that you know? We
- 25:14have to because you have to change and so many of the what we knew
- 25:18is the old time crafts. People have gotten old and quit doing it or
- 25:22also decided because of COVID it changed people's lives, particularly older people, and
- 25:27they've stopped. So we're seeing a resurgence now of younger people that are really
- 25:33getting into the craft industry. And I would think too that now that there's
- 25:37so many different YouTube videos available and things of that nature, that people can
- 25:41go on if they want to learn the craft, you know, not like
- 25:44it was traditionally where it had to be handed down from grandma or whatever.
- 25:47You could actually go on and say, hey, I've got an interest in
- 25:48this, how do you do it? That's right, and I respect people
- 25:52to do that. As somebody who has absolutely zero ability whatsoever to do things
- 25:56like that, I have to totally be vulnerable here. I'm pretty much built
- 25:59my career. You're on YouTube how to videos. I went to the College
- 26:03of YouTube and Google got a degree. Yeah, yeah, I do.
- 26:07I have a degree in that. I mean, it's a great thing.
- 26:11It is like kind of a like you said, it's different. I feel
- 26:14like in you know, my generation, the younger generation, we learn it
- 26:15different. But you know the fact that you said you do see young people
- 26:19doing it. I think it's I think it's cool that they're into it.
- 26:22Now do you see a do you feel like it's like headed in a different
- 26:26direction with the younger generation, or do you feel like it's like this,
- 26:30like you know, moving. I think we're seeing a different take on a
- 26:34lot of the same things and putting their mark on it and making it,
- 26:38making those items a little bit more current to the younger audience. By the
- 26:45way, I want to throw the center. Ryan tells me we have a
- 26:47winner of our family four pack of tickets, Robin Groves. So, Robin,
- 26:49congratulations, you and your family will be enjoying the show next weekend.
- 26:55Give us the dates times again, November seventeen, eighteen, and nineteen.
- 26:59It's next Friday, Saturday and Sunday Friday from two o'clock until seven o'clock,
- 27:03Saturday ten am until six pm, and Sunday noon until five all right,
- 27:10And since nineteen eighty we have generated donations to primarily local charities, of one
- 27:15point six million dollars off this show. That's very impressive. That's very impressive.
- 27:21And of course with it being in the newly refurbished over the last couple
- 27:25of years Kyle Sema Convention Center, you can have even more vendors. And
- 27:27how many vendors you have in airper hundred and one hundred of vendors in one
- 27:30hundred and sixty boos, okay, because many of them take two spaces.
- 27:34Yeah, all right, well, John, I appreciate we'll be talking about
- 27:37this next week. We appreciate you setting up with the tickets. We'll give
- 27:40away some tickets next week too. As always, we appreciate your help and
- 27:44promoting. Absolutely so. It's the fifty fourth Capital City Arts and Craft Show,
- 27:48and you folks in the Lions Club and can also do a great job
- 27:52of putting it's on. It's truly a labor I love, John, it
- 27:53is. It is a labor of it ain't a labor of money. It
- 27:57takes a lot of love. How many people do you say it takes to
- 28:02put on this event? Well, we have, I know we have forty
- 28:04members, but it takes a lot of family members and friends. It's not
- 28:10just the folks that are in our club. We depend upon our lot of
- 28:12wives and kids and whatever. They get thrown into this sort of thing.
- 28:15And then we hit like one of the groups we work with have for a
- 28:18number of years as the Capitol High School or OTC, and those young people
- 28:22come down and help us. It's a great experience for them to interact with
- 28:27us, the older guys. And also, you know, it's amazing these
- 28:33young people today. I mean, you hear lots of stories, but these
- 28:36are good kids and they are learning of volunteerism. Awesome. All right,
- 28:42John again, it's all happening next weekend. I appreciate you being here,
- 28:45Thanks a lot, Thanks so much for having us so twenty four minutes away
- 28:49from ten hang on with me one second here. I want to let you
- 28:52know if the show is brought to part but a General Hardware and number of
- 28:55Winfield. Come check out the new contractors showroom there, lumberyard. They got
- 28:59it all, of course, they deliver service and the quality right to your
- 29:02door. Don't buy until you get a quote from General Hardware, number of
- 29:06Winfield. Morgan Morrison is here from Rock City, equally anticipated doing ten questions
- 29:11a little bit later on. You know, I'm pretty excited for it.
- 29:15I'm a little nervous. Well you should be nervous about, meaning Rob Real
- 29:18from our sister station ninety six to one KBS, because he's a scary guy
- 29:22and Rob is going to be coming up here momentarily to talk about something we're
- 29:26very excited about. What we're doing here next week. It's the w VRC
- 29:30Media Turkey Drop. And somebody asked me, Nos, this's going to be
- 29:32like on WKRP in Cincinnati with less Nessman, where they dropped it to.
- 29:36No, it's not that kind of it. We're going to ask people to
- 29:37bring us turkeys next week. Where's the where's the razzle dazzle? Do we
- 29:41not get a crane or anything? Well, where's the traumatics? Rob is
- 29:45working on that right now. So Rob's going to be here momentarily to talk
- 29:48about that. So John, appreciate you being here. We'll take a break.

- 32:23Rox City Cake Company. I sure, I am, yeah, still here.
- 32:27I'm still sitting here, So she ain't a feared to be If you're
- 32:31scared, say you're scared, you run her off? Yet that you're so
- 32:35good, that's right real by the way, from her sister Station ninety six
- 32:37one Superstar Country kws uh. I've already warned her about you, Rob said,
- 32:43I want a lot of great things to say about you, Robin.
- 32:45All those are filthy lines. Well, let me say this at the top
- 32:49us Veterans Day. It is Veterans Day. It's kind of a two day
- 32:52thing now because it's like because it's you know, you have Veterans Day,
- 32:54and then it's a you know, the actual observation. Things are closed up
- 32:58today, but we're gonna because so it's kind of turned into a two day
- 33:00thing because of the way the calendar filled this year. Well, and it's
- 33:02always a two day thing for me because November tenth is Marine Corps deck Yeah,
- 33:06and that's what I wanted to say. You're decked out in your Marine
- 33:08Corps gear. I am thank you, sir for your service. It was
- 33:12my honor and I know many veterans. I don't presume to speak for all
- 33:16of us. I only speak for me. I know that many veterans get
- 33:20uncomfortable with get a little twitchy about how to react to that. People only
- 33:25mean well when they say that. There's never sarcasm. That people when they
- 33:29say thank you, they mean it, And so we just My response is
- 33:32become it was my honor, and then we can move on with everybody.
- 33:36Yes, And a long time ago radio station, far far away, back
- 33:39when I worked in the Rockies and the Cascades, we would get an email
- 33:44every six months from our lovely CEO, who is the kind of guy.
- 33:46I don't think he'd ever served anybody launch a littlone served in uniform, but
- 33:50bless his heart, every six months we would get the email that would outline
- 33:53that Memorial Day is about those who have died, and particularly those those who
- 34:00have served in those who have died, and particularly those who died while in
- 34:02service, and that Veterans Day is about the living veterans. And I know
- 34:07he meant well, but honestly, it's it's not that hard. It's not
- 34:12that big a deal. You're not going to offend somebody when you say thank
- 34:15you for your service on Veterans Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, any
- 34:19day. Yeah, choose like April twenty third. I mean that's when we
- 34:22should be thanking veterans. And I'm just using that day a random It doesn't
- 34:25matter. You should think veterans every day. Because the reason that we're able
- 34:29to set in the studio and argue politics, the reason that Morgan's able to
- 34:31make cupcakes and do whatever, all the stuff that she does is because of
- 34:35people that served. I get a little bit, you know, my redneck
- 34:37comes out about that. So as I did not serve, as I told
- 34:40the story esterday, okay, but my dad did and literally died off.
- 34:45All that was years later of Agent Orange, you know, for his service
- 34:49in Vietnam. So yeah, thank veterans. All right, let's feed some
- 34:52people. Yes, let's do that. Think about that. So next Thursday,
- 34:55we are turning our loop of a parking lot here at eleven eleven Virginia
- 34:59sty Eat East into a drive through turkey drop. As God is my witness,
- 35:02I thought turkeys could fly. Yeah, we've already made that joke.
- 35:05So did you know that was inspired by a real radio promotion, tell Us
- 35:09Robs. So there was a station. I believe it was in Atlanta.
- 35:14The Hugh Wilson, the guy who created WKRP in Cincinnati, worked in radio.
- 35:16That's why it's so real. Other than the fact they didn't wear headphones,
- 35:20it's practically a documentary. Other than that, there was he worked for
- 35:24a guy or knew a guy who tried to do a live turkeys off the
- 35:28back of a truck thing. So that's what inspired the helicopter sacks of wet
- 35:32cement. Oh the humanity pinedale mall turkeys away episode. So we're turning in
- 35:38a different way. We want you to drop turkeys with us, frozen turkeys.
- 35:44That's always the hardest part of the holiday meal. Folks seem to be
- 35:47great about the nonperishable stuff, but it's getting the actual turkeys. They'll give
- 35:52you the green beans. Was they're easy. Yes. The things I want
- 35:57to say in response to that, I'm not allowed to. So we are.
- 36:00We are collecting frozen turkeys. That's all we want. Just bring us
- 36:05a frozen turkey. You don't have to get out of your vehicle. We
- 36:07will have people who will fetch that and and put it in the bin and
- 36:09make sure it gets on to the right, people, if you want to
- 36:13do a cash donation, if you want to do a check donation, if
- 36:15that is easier for you. Maybe you're somebody like me who lives alone.
- 36:17You're not cooking up a turkey. You're not gonna buy one for yourself.
- 36:20You're not gonna buy an extra one. That that's fine. We will take
- 36:22folding money. We are happy to do that and pass that along. Thank
- 36:27you to the big lely piggly wiggly for being behind this with us. In
- 36:30fact, that would be a great place to go buy your frozen turkey.
- 36:31Indeed, maybe buy a couple of extras if you can afford to do that.
- 36:36I come from one of those families where if if you didn't get up
- 36:39and shoot it on Thanksgiving morning, you were not gonna have turkey on the
- 36:43table Thanksgiving afternoon. So I understand what it is like to maybe not have
- 36:47the turkey for Thanksgiving. And everybody deserves to have at least a little feast
- 36:53on thanks agree. And so this is what day next week, next Thursday,
- 36:58six eight to six p case. And this is a again one of
- 37:00those events that we do that we're all out there. I mean, it's
- 37:01all the stations. You kind of put this together for ninety six one,
- 37:06but we're also chs V one hundred to beat. We're all going to be
- 37:08a part of this next week. Yeah. Just because you know we're first
- 37:12to fight, last to leave Marines we are, doesn't mean that we're not
- 37:15happy to welcome our brothers and sisters from you know, the soldiers, the
- 37:19sailors in the airman to come be a part of this. And that's how
- 37:21we are with all the radio stations. You know, they give me a
- 37:23hard time when I wear a baseball cap in the building, but let them
- 37:27come for me today. Exactly. I'm wearing the Marine corpste Let them come
- 37:30for me today. Yeah, exactly. All right, So we're going to
- 37:32have you on again next week to talk about this to remind people. But
- 37:35yeah, it's next Thursday, six am to six pm. Bring those frozen
- 37:37turkeys here to our studios eleven eleven Virginia Street, Das Charleston. It'll be
- 37:42real simple to do. We don't even have to get out of your car.
- 37:45Just go over. And when you mentioned Big Lee Pigley Wiggily, because
- 37:46they're making it all possible, go that'd be a great place to go,
- 37:50but just get us a frozen turkey. Yeah. I know, this is
- 37:52a big shopping weekend for that. Get your freezer loaded up so you have
- 37:55everything. So when you grab that turkey for you and yours, grab extra
- 38:00one or maybe two if you can't. All right, all right, Rob,
- 38:02we'll talk to you next week. I have you on a couple times
- 38:06next week to talk about it. Man, thanks so appreciate you. Thank
- 38:07you for your service. My honor. He's gonna get he's wearing that geared
- 38:12you. How many times he's gonna hear that today? That's my honor,
- 38:14it's manor. But you know what, no matter how many times I hear
- 38:17it, I always appreciate all right, man, thanks appreciate you. It
- 38:21is fifteen minutes away from ten, so come over and help us out with
- 38:25this next week, Morgan, six am to six pm. You don't have
- 38:28to be that whole time. We'll give you a shift. How's that,
- 38:30hey, I'll take it. I just picture like just a big huge truck
- 38:36of turkeys like he's transporting. I have so many questions. Where are these
- 38:40turkey's going? Actually, Ryan, our producer, he didn't know that,
- 38:44but Ryan is going to be driving the truck for the turkeys. Okay,
- 38:46welcome, Welcome aboard, Ryan, he didn't know that I'm gonna sign up
- 38:50to be the turkey driver. Hey, there's another event going on. I
- 38:53want to mention here real quick. There's an organization it's called the Clubs in
- 38:59Hand Foundation, and what it is. It's a organization that teaches young people
- 39:05to play golf. And it's people that maybe wouldn't And that's there's no way
- 39:08you can say this make it sound right that normally may not have an opportunity
- 39:13to play. Golf is a boie sport and it's very expensive. It's very
- 39:16expensive just to get started. Well, they're doing what they call a par
- 39:20T p a r T benefiting the Clubs and Hand Foundation. It's being presented
- 39:24by the John L. Dickinson family at Embassy Suites tomorrow night. Starts at
- 39:29seven o'clock and the idea again behind this organization is to get people from all
- 39:34backgrounds and opportunity to gain life lessons through golf. This event has happened in
- 39:37Embassy Suites tomorrow night. I want to get it a plug in for that.
- 39:40For more information, you can visit First T. It's te First t
- 39:45West Virginia dot org for more information on that. Morgan Morrison is here from
- 39:49Rock City Cake Company. We move at the speed of light here. Yeah,
- 39:52on the show fly By, I've just been sitting here watching. Well,
- 39:57we're not done yet before we talk about uh, rock City and some
- 40:00of the thing I want to know about you give us the bio on Morgan
- 40:04Morrison. I mean, you know, that's kind of hard without talking about
- 40:07Rock City because I feel like, you know, you work is my identity
- 40:12exactly. No, I mean, you know, we're we're both logan people.
- 40:15We moved to the big city, the big city of Charleston here living
- 40:21life in the fast lane. You know, my life, that's pretty much
- 40:23what it consists of. Is just if I'm not baking cake, I'm traveling,
- 40:28I'm all around. But mainly, was this something life? Cake is
- 40:32my life? What it was this something that you wanted to do as a
- 40:38kid? Did you take at five or six years old, say what day
- 40:40I'm going to operate a bakery? You know, I'm gonna be completely honest
- 40:43with you, Dave. I fell into this. It was I just literally
- 40:47literally fell into this. I never wanted I always knew that you know,
- 40:54I wanted to do something growing up. Always had these ideas like I just
- 40:58wanted to own my own business. I wanted to be I had so many
- 41:00like ideas of how to reach people and stuff, but never specifically was I
- 41:04like, oh, I need to be a baker. I love baking.
- 41:08I like to cook. I've never baked anything beyond basically peelsberry frozen cookies before
- 41:14and before I stepped into this and I just kind of fell into it,
- 41:17and uh it worked for me. Okay, So you opened up the first
- 41:22rock City in Logan. It was it was in Logan. So it was
- 41:24funny because you know, I'm at Courtney my business partner now, and you
- 41:29know, we had two other business partners at the time and she had was
- 41:32like I came in right as you know, it was becoming an idea,
- 41:37it was becoming a thing. The Sorefront was about to open and I actually
- 41:39started working the front counter and then, you know, as literally less than
- 41:45a year, I was like, Okay, this might be my calling,
- 41:50and you know, the opportunity arose to where we could. You know,
- 41:52it was a buyout, said nothing bad. It was just a buyout situation.
- 41:55You know. The other two partners decided, Okay, this is not
- 41:58for me, I don't think and I was accordingly, let's just do it.
- 42:01Let's do it. And you know, here I am eighteen, I
- 42:05had dropped out of college. I went to Southern No idea what I want?
- 42:09Yeah, yeah, no idea what I wanted to do. I was
- 42:12basically just blowing my financial aid through basics, and you know, I just
- 42:17remember sitting down with a financial aid woman and I was like, hey,
- 42:21you know, I know this sounds crazy, but I just bought into a
- 42:22bakery and I'm gonna drop out. What do you want me to do with
- 42:27my financial aid? And she was like, that's a terrible idea. You're
- 42:30never gonna make it. You're never gonna do anything with this. You need
- 42:34a college degree. You know, I'm not hating on college degrees, obviously
- 42:37they're important, but I was like, you know, I just don't think
- 42:38I have time for both. And I feel like I'm being a lot more
- 42:42productive at work. So I'm just I'm sorry, I'm out. And then
- 42:45I just kind of dove head first and we were in Logan for what three
- 42:51years, I think, and you know that didn't work out. You know,
- 42:53the economy so hit or miss, and I think we have big ideas
- 42:58and small town and I would never talk a baud about Logan. It helped
- 43:01us get our footing, and it helped us, you know, start learn
- 43:06lessons we have learned. I've literally grew up with this company. You know,
- 43:09I started as a kid, and you just learn every step of the
- 43:13way. And it didn't work out, and Logan, you know, I'm
- 43:15not too prideful of me. We went under. I mean, the AP
- 43:17was trying to cut us off. We were gonna big bit like it just
- 43:20wasn't working. And then you know we I think we're splitting the four by
- 43:25four from Wendy's and we were like, what are we gonna do? And
- 43:29we drove to Charleston, not like we had any money to do it.
- 43:31We had like a quarter tank of gas and driving down Capitol Street saw the
- 43:36for rent or for release in the window and what year? What year was
- 43:39this? Two thy sixteen? Okay, I believe. And so that's when
- 43:44you moved rock City too. Here a lot of bakers in the area or
- 43:47whatever you prefer to call them. What is it that makes rock City so
- 43:52unique? I mean because you do different, different kind of thing there.
- 43:53We do. We do different stuff. I think, you know, I
- 43:58love all the bakeries here. I'm somebody that believes we lift each other up.
- 44:01We do everything. I think, you know, everybody kind of has
- 44:05their own unique stuff. But I feel like I've always felt like, especially
- 44:07with my vision with rock City, it's bigger. It's more than just a
- 44:09bakery. I mean, in a literal sense, we're also a music venue.
- 44:14And you know, we have our hand in pretty much every pot you
- 44:16can. But I've always used rock City. You know, we do the
- 44:21cakes, we do the cookies. We have a huge variety. We're not
- 44:23afraid to like push the boundaries socially on what we you know, we're always
- 44:29pushing something. I don't trying to, you know, stay unique. But
- 44:32I've always used it as kind of a platform to connect with people. There's
- 44:38room for cake at every table, for any discussion, for any and I
- 44:45know that kind of sounds cheesy, but you know, you get you get
- 44:47to connect with people on their best days, their worst days. There's just
- 44:51always room to eat a piece of cake. And I love, I love
- 44:53that connection. Let me ask you from then we got to go a break.
- 44:57We'll come back with ten questions. And now it's like ask you what
- 44:59is your favorite child? But what's your personal favorite thing in the menu at
- 45:01Rock City? Your personal favorite? Oh, that's a hard question. My
- 45:07personal favorite right now, I'm really into cinnamon rolls. Right now, I
- 45:09feel like I've perfected the cinnamon role recipe and I'm hyperfixated on cinnamon cinnamon rolls.
- 45:15There you go. All right, We're gonna take a break. When
- 45:16we come back. We'll talk to Morgan a little bit more, but we're
- 45:19gonna get right into ten questions when we come back. Right after this,

- 51:27and the Christmas trees are up until first of the year. We'll have you
- 51:30on again to talk about that. Talk about this business organization that you're part
