- 0:45Speaker 3: It is the Travel Tuesday edition of Radio Night Live.
- 0:49Speaker 3: I'm Kevin McCulloch. She's Linda Perillo. Linda, I don't know
- 0:52Speaker 3: about you, but I kind of thought last night that
- 0:56Speaker 3: the city was going to explode because the next We're
- 1:00Speaker 3: going to win Game three, and I had my whole
- 1:04Speaker 3: crew asking if they could stay up and watch it
- 1:06Speaker 3: and all the rest of it.
- 1:07Speaker 4: What again. Of course, man, it came down.
- 1:10Speaker 3: It came down right to the end, so so sad,
- 1:14Speaker 3: to not finish it. I mean, they weren't going to
- 1:16Speaker 3: finish it off. But if they'd gone up three nothing
- 1:17Speaker 3: that would have been that that would have put a
- 1:20Speaker 3: lot of more pressure coming up on Wednesday's game, because
- 1:22Speaker 3: then the city would truly explode if they won.
- 1:26Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:26Speaker 5: And you know what, here's interesting.
- 1:30Speaker 6: If they had won, it would have been the same
- 1:32Speaker 6: reaction as if they didn't win. But people would have
- 1:35Speaker 6: been happy, you know, so I mean, you know, it's
- 1:39Speaker 6: kind of like the same thing.
- 1:42Speaker 5: And they also I was thinking.
- 1:43Speaker 6: About this too, like, I don't know, New York is
- 1:48Speaker 6: a crazy place, right, So they stopped you know, they.
- 1:51Speaker 5: Stopped foot traffic. I think they stopped anything.
- 1:53Speaker 6: I know.
- 1:53Speaker 3: I had a meeting with a client in the city
- 1:56Speaker 3: at five pm yesterday in middle.
- 1:59Speaker 5: Oh god, that was the case of death.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Yeah it was.
- 2:03Speaker 3: But you know, they're from Alabama. They didn't know, and uh, like, okay,
- 2:07Speaker 3: I'll be there.
- 2:09Speaker 4: I'll be there.
- 2:09Speaker 3: I'll wide my way through the traffic and figure out
- 2:12Speaker 3: how to park somewhere and get there.
- 2:14Speaker 4: But no, we did it. We made it happen.
- 2:16Speaker 6: But how much can we expect from the Knicks, right,
- 2:19Speaker 6: how much can you expect?
- 2:20Speaker 5: What was it fourteen games in a row they won.
- 2:22Speaker 3: I think something mean they had won eighteen, and there's
- 2:27Speaker 3: no NBA team that's won eighteen games consecutively that that
- 2:32Speaker 3: wasn't named Lakers or Celtics like this this was, or
- 2:36Speaker 3: maybe the Bulls. But this was really quite a run
- 2:39Speaker 3: and it like, I still fully expect them to win
- 2:41Speaker 3: the series.
- 2:42Speaker 4: I still think, you know.
- 2:43Speaker 5: That they can win.
- 2:44Speaker 3: They came so close last night to pulling out a
- 2:47Speaker 3: third consecutive game in the finals. And you know what
- 2:50Speaker 3: I loved about last night because the whole nation got
- 2:52Speaker 3: to see it, and this was kind of cool. It
- 2:55Speaker 3: showed how New Yorkers all come together. So you had
- 3:00Speaker 3: Derek Jeter sitting next to Eli Manning, you had Ben
- 3:04Speaker 3: Stiller sitting next to uh, what's what's Kylie Jenner's boyfriend?
- 3:09Speaker 4: The actor guy?
- 3:10Speaker 6: Uh, Timothy, tell us what you've got.
- 3:16Speaker 3: You've got Ben Stiller, You've got what's her name? Mata
- 3:21Speaker 3: Hartegay from Law and Order, Heart Attack, whatever market. I'm
- 3:29Speaker 3: about as good with some of these names as I
- 3:30Speaker 3: am with Wim Biana.
- 3:32Speaker 6: But Chance, I still can't say, Mom, Donnie.
- 3:37Speaker 4: Day for for being such a global city. Were sure,
- 3:40Speaker 4: We're sure terrible.
- 3:41Speaker 3: At some of these international But then, but then I
- 3:45Speaker 3: even thought that, you know the fact that the President
- 3:48Speaker 3: was there and he's not technically a New Yorker anymore,
- 3:51Speaker 3: but like anybody who loved the city, who loves New York,
- 3:56Speaker 3: they were. They were all united last night for the
- 4:00Speaker 3: pulling for the for the home team, And I just
- 4:03Speaker 3: I think that's a really cool statement about the coolness
- 4:07Speaker 3: of our city.
- 4:08Speaker 5: Well, I think a couple of things.
- 4:10Speaker 6: First of all, New York is a even though we
- 4:13Speaker 6: have two football teams that are not New York.
- 4:16Speaker 5: You play in New Jersey.
- 4:19Speaker 6: You know New York is a sports town, and you
- 4:22Speaker 6: are very passionate.
- 4:24Speaker 5: Oh my god, we have two everything.
- 4:25Speaker 3: We've got two hockey and Christine argued with me about
- 4:28Speaker 3: this on Friday, and she's wrong. You've got two NHL teams,
- 4:31Speaker 3: you've got two NBA teams, you've got two NFL teams,
- 4:34Speaker 3: and you've got two MLB teams.
- 4:36Speaker 4: We got two of everything. We're the only city on
- 4:38Speaker 4: the planet that has that.
- 4:40Speaker 6: Well, because New York is so extra, we have to
- 4:43Speaker 6: have extra You have extra teams in case one sucks.
- 4:47Speaker 6: We have to have a team that doesn't suck. I
- 4:49Speaker 6: mean that's how that's the Mets and the Yankees.
- 4:52Speaker 5: Like right there. But so you know, listen, New York
- 4:55Speaker 5: is New York.
- 4:56Speaker 6: I expect the reactions that we did. Just don't go
- 4:59Speaker 6: freaking crazy. And here's the thing.
- 5:00Speaker 5: Cut the Nicks some slack.
- 5:03Speaker 6: Those guys have been pulling it out of the garbage
- 5:06Speaker 6: when they have been behind at like twelve fifteen points
- 5:10Speaker 6: and they come back, and that's a lot in basketball.
- 5:13Speaker 6: That's not an easy feat in basketball. My boys both play,
- 5:16Speaker 6: so I know, and it's like, oh my god, cut
- 5:20Speaker 6: them some slack. They're gonna come back and they're gonna
- 5:23Speaker 6: pull us off. You know why, because they won't not
- 5:26Speaker 6: let themselves pull it off.
- 5:27Speaker 3: And well, I think two things happened last night. And
- 5:30Speaker 3: I'm a former coach, so this is the kind of
- 5:32Speaker 3: stuff at the college level at least, So this is
- 5:35Speaker 3: the kind of stuff that drives me crazy. But I've
- 5:39Speaker 3: never seen officiating as bad as what we saw last
- 5:43Speaker 3: night in the finals. And I haven't really watched a
- 5:45Speaker 3: lot of NBA in recent years because I kind of
- 5:47Speaker 3: stopped watching when the Jordan Patrick Ewing, Larry Bird, Magic
- 5:52Speaker 3: Johnson era was kind of over, Like I just felt
- 5:55Speaker 3: like it became like I even missed a good chunk
- 5:57Speaker 3: of Shaquille and Kobe and some of those guys. But
- 6:00Speaker 3: last night, and I don't know what they've done with
- 6:03Speaker 3: the NBA, but the violation call for traveling is not
- 6:09Speaker 3: being enforced almost at all, because I counted twenty five
- 6:14Speaker 3: travels last night between the two teams where somebody took
- 6:17Speaker 3: too many steps and the ref didn't blow the whistle.
- 6:21Speaker 3: And you're like, did somebody change the rules? Do we
- 6:24Speaker 3: now get two and a half to three steps or
- 6:26Speaker 3: three and a half to four steps depending on you know,
- 6:29Speaker 3: if you're wimby on a wimpy wimby whoever it is,
- 6:34Speaker 3: you might get five or six.
- 6:35Speaker 4: I mean, it's just and every one step for him is.
- 6:38Speaker 3: The equivalent of like six for someone else, So I
- 6:40Speaker 3: mean he's already got the NY But.
- 6:43Speaker 6: You know what, Kevin, I also think too, there's a
- 6:45Speaker 6: human factor in all of this.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Right, Okay, hold on human factor. And there was one
- 6:50Speaker 3: other thing that struck me last night. Brunson picked up
- 6:54Speaker 3: an early foul, really really early in the game, like
- 6:57Speaker 3: within seconds gone, and I think that when it came
- 7:01Speaker 3: to the second half, he wasn't available as early as
- 7:04Speaker 3: they needed him to come back in because he had
- 7:07Speaker 3: already gotten to four and he didn't want to get ejected.
- 7:10Speaker 3: So it was like they were trying to manage his
- 7:12Speaker 3: foul his foul thing, and it was I just think
- 7:16Speaker 3: that period of absence of Jalen Brunson not being on
- 7:19Speaker 3: the floor dramatically impacted the Knicks' offensive output because they
- 7:24Speaker 3: don't have another guy that runs the offense like him,
- 7:27Speaker 3: and so at the end you had I mean they
- 7:30Speaker 3: kind of got there when he finally got back in,
- 7:32Speaker 3: and I think the damage was already done. And I
- 7:34Speaker 3: think mentally, I think these guys are just exhaustible.
- 7:36Speaker 6: Well that's what happens too. I mean that's the human factor.
- 7:39Speaker 6: But the human factor of a ref or an umpire.
- 7:42Speaker 6: You know, they're not machines. Kevin too, and I think
- 7:45Speaker 6: that they're trying to watch so many things at one time.
- 7:49Speaker 5: And yes, they are professional and.
- 7:53Speaker 4: If I can see it sitting on my couch at
- 7:55Speaker 4: the in my house.
- 7:58Speaker 5: But Kevin, I don't know, Listen.
- 8:00Speaker 6: I don't like it when people. I do think that
- 8:02Speaker 6: there's bad roughing. I do think that there's bad umpiring,
- 8:05Speaker 6: which is why the MLB has done what they've done right,
- 8:09Speaker 6: you know about that? Right, you have these challenges.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Now you have well they have them in the NBA,
- 8:14Speaker 3: which was not there the last time I cared about basketball.
- 8:16Speaker 6: But and you have all the electronics that are that
- 8:19Speaker 6: are you know, doing what the human eye can't see.
- 8:23Speaker 6: So there has to be some kind of room for
- 8:27Speaker 6: error in that way.
- 8:29Speaker 5: Although I understand what you're saying now.
- 8:31Speaker 6: To me, travel is something that you see and like,
- 8:35Speaker 6: you know, AAU basketball like, are these NBA players like
- 8:39Speaker 6: getting like valve valveor travels?
- 8:41Speaker 5: I mean, come on, really.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Well, AAU well, I don't know. Internet and international rules
- 8:48Speaker 3: are different than NBA rules. NBA and college rules are
- 8:50Speaker 3: pretty close. But in American basketball, and we're the ones
- 8:55Speaker 3: that invented it, you get two steps if you're moving
- 8:59Speaker 3: towards the basket. If you're not moving towards the basket,
- 9:03Speaker 3: you don't get the full second step. You get to
- 9:05Speaker 3: put your other foot down. Then you've got your pivot foot,
- 9:08Speaker 3: and that's what it is. But these guys were taken
- 9:10Speaker 3: two two and a half, three, three and a half.
- 9:13Speaker 3: And there was a couple of times last night when
- 9:15Speaker 3: a player took four steps in his progress to the basket,
- 9:19Speaker 3: and I'm like, if I can see it, if my
- 9:21Speaker 3: old man, fifty six year old eyes are sitting at
- 9:24Speaker 3: home being a lazy bomb on my on my easy
- 9:27Speaker 3: chair watching this and I can I can see them.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Of course, I've got like a seventy two inch screen,
- 9:31Speaker 3: so it's like in colored in my face.
- 9:33Speaker 5: So I'm like, you, oh, you have a sports bar.
- 9:35Speaker 3: You have a sport now, well not really, but yeah.
- 9:39Speaker 3: So I'm sitting there, I'm like, and I'm on its
- 9:41Speaker 3: text thread with some friends and I'm like, has this
- 9:43Speaker 3: always been the case? And they're no, no, no, it's
- 9:45Speaker 3: pretty bad tonight anyway. But they so Wednesday, you know,
- 9:50Speaker 3: we're all we're all expecting a different outcome on Wednesday.
- 9:53Speaker 4: She's Lynda. I'm Kevin. We're coming right back. Don't go away.
- 9:59Speaker 2: From New York. It's Radio Night Life with Kevin McCullough.

- 10:40Speaker 3: I'm reading in Travel and Leisure that a group has
- 10:47Speaker 3: come up with the world's first gluten free cruise. Now,
- 10:54Speaker 3: I have spent some time with some relatives and others
- 10:59Speaker 3: who needed to be gluten free for health reasons, or
- 11:03Speaker 3: so they say, and so they tell me, and I
- 11:05Speaker 3: guess I'm gonna believe them. Maybe I'm not because I'm
- 11:08Speaker 3: a curmudgey, mean old guy, but I'm just curious. Do
- 11:14Speaker 3: you think, because you know the cruise space much better
- 11:17Speaker 3: than I do, do you think that this is a
- 11:23Speaker 3: a barn burner of a winner financially or whatever for
- 11:28Speaker 3: whatever group's gonna adopt it. I guess it's Oceania Cruises,
- 11:32Speaker 3: but they're going to have the Celiac Cruise, which just
- 11:34Speaker 3: the name itself makes me just want to go right,
- 11:37Speaker 3: Oh yes, please let me get on a cruise titled Celiac.
- 11:42Speaker 3: But it's going to be a gluten free ocean cruise
- 11:45Speaker 3: in twenty twenty eight. I guess it's only going to
- 11:47Speaker 3: be the one cruise, but.
- 11:50Speaker 4: I don't know. I think they're going to have a
- 11:51Speaker 4: hard time selling this out.
- 11:54Speaker 6: I think you're wrong, okay, And I think and I
- 11:56Speaker 6: hate to say that, Kevin.
- 11:58Speaker 5: I do.
- 12:00Speaker 6: Listen, so many people out there, including two met my
- 12:04Speaker 6: two first cousins, and I was shocked because we come
- 12:06Speaker 6: from a very hearty Italian background with like no inbreeding,
- 12:11Speaker 6: like no, there's no mind, no.
- 12:14Speaker 5: Other No, I mean, there's no other breeds in.
- 12:16Speaker 6: There is what I'm what I meant to say, I'm right,
- 12:19Speaker 6: that's all.
- 12:20Speaker 5: I mean, immigrants.
- 12:21Speaker 6: Everything, So I mean the Italians apparently they have a
- 12:25Speaker 6: big celiac problem.
- 12:27Speaker 5: Maybe it's coming from all the Semolina.
- 12:29Speaker 6: I don't know, but I don't have that problem now
- 12:32Speaker 6: dealing with my cousins who are first cousins.
- 12:35Speaker 5: I hear how difficult it is.
- 12:36Speaker 6: We have a friend whose little girl just developed siliac. So,
- 12:41Speaker 6: but that being said, Kevin, for you and me, like
- 12:45Speaker 6: this is a new thing to me, Celiac Like what
- 12:48Speaker 6: I mean, you're gluten free like to me and all
- 12:51Speaker 6: the stuff is disgusting, It's gross.
- 12:54Speaker 5: I've had it.
- 12:55Speaker 6: I can't even. I have to cook gluten free pasta
- 12:58Speaker 6: on Christmas Eve for my cousins. It's like giving somebody
- 13:03Speaker 6: like like Plato's fa addition, it's like disgusting, and I'm like,
- 13:11Speaker 6: I can't even.
- 13:12Speaker 5: I throw it out, Like if there's leftovers, I throw it.
- 13:14Speaker 5: No one's gonna eat it. My husband is not going
- 13:16Speaker 5: to eat that.
- 13:17Speaker 6: But there are so many people Kevin, with this diagnosis
- 13:22Speaker 6: that have a very difficult time going on vacation. If
- 13:26Speaker 6: you read the piece going on vacation anywhere to find
- 13:32Speaker 6: gluten free food. So you either have to find a
- 13:34Speaker 6: gluten free restaurant right or you have to remember what
- 13:37Speaker 6: you can eat and not eat. Now, this will solve
- 13:41Speaker 6: that problem, because everything you're eating is that lovely, delicious
- 13:47Speaker 6: gluten free recipe that we've all been craving. Not However,
- 13:55Speaker 6: it makes it easier for them, and that's that I'm
- 13:58Speaker 6: telling you.
- 13:58Speaker 3: It's gonna work well, And that's that's what we are.
- 14:01Speaker 3: We're always about, right, it's always about ease and convenience
- 14:04Speaker 3: and being lazy basically. But when I've when I've and
- 14:07Speaker 3: we've got on my bride side, we have an extended
- 14:11Speaker 3: second cousin I think, who has had a serious coeliac.
- 14:16Speaker 4: Condition for years.
- 14:18Speaker 3: But it's like really coeliac, Like it's really because there's
- 14:21Speaker 3: there's people that are saying, well, I have to be
- 14:23Speaker 3: gluten free, and I'm like, did you get a diagnostic? No,
- 14:26Speaker 3: I just decided to cut it out and I decided
- 14:28Speaker 3: that I felt better.
- 14:29Speaker 5: Yeah, no, no, no, not, Okay.
- 14:31Speaker 3: You're not coeliac. You're just choosing to be gluten free,
- 14:34Speaker 3: which is fine. But you know, here's the amazing thing
- 14:37Speaker 3: about people that need to be gluten free. Have we
- 14:40Speaker 3: stopped eating like clean proteins and nice salads and vegetables
- 14:47Speaker 3: that don't have any type of flour in it? Like
- 14:50Speaker 3: since do we have to have deep fried something or
- 14:53Speaker 3: other to go on the side of the the hamburger
- 14:55Speaker 3: with the huge bun or whatever. Like I just I've
- 14:59Speaker 3: I've always thought that if you're gluten free, you actually
- 15:02Speaker 3: have an easier time eating in public than like my
- 15:05Speaker 3: orthodox Jewish friends do.
- 15:06Speaker 5: Well, that's it too. Now here's the other thing too.
- 15:09Speaker 6: I think when you're talking kosher, right, anybody that eats
- 15:14Speaker 6: kosher food, I would say ninety eight percent of the
- 15:18Speaker 6: Jewish population that does eat kosher has been doing this
- 15:21Speaker 6: since birth, so they are they get used, story accustomed
- 15:25Speaker 6: to how they can modify where they can eat, what
- 15:28Speaker 6: they can eat, what to order before they go on
- 15:30Speaker 6: a plane. One of the best stories I have is
- 15:35Speaker 6: our Vip of vip our VP. Diana was upset with
- 15:38Speaker 6: my brother and she travels with him, which is very
- 15:40Speaker 6: easy to do Kevin.
- 15:42Speaker 3: And travel them or easy to be upset with him.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Wait a minute, none of my business, keep going, please.
- 15:49Speaker 6: So they were getting on the plane to Italy and
- 15:51Speaker 6: she was traveling with him to Italy and she ordered.
- 15:53Speaker 5: Him a kosher me Oh, Harry, isn't first class.
- 15:58Speaker 6: And they bring him to coo your meal in the
- 16:00Speaker 6: in the foil and he goes, what is this?
- 16:03Speaker 4: She's like, you deserve that She did it as a joke.
- 16:09Speaker 6: Oh, yes, because she wanted to get the screws into him.
- 16:13Speaker 6: But it's a great story because she had to pre
- 16:16Speaker 6: order the kosher meal, which is what you know.
- 16:19Speaker 5: Our Jewish friends are used to doing before they travel.
- 16:22Speaker 6: They'll do it on a cruise ship and most of them, though, however,
- 16:26Speaker 6: will know where to travel. Who's the best airline for that,
- 16:31Speaker 6: or who's the best cruise line to make accommodations, which
- 16:34Speaker 6: I think is different than the gluten free because if
- 16:38Speaker 6: I was gluten free and.
- 16:39Speaker 5: You and I took a trip today, for example.
- 16:42Speaker 6: We would either find a gluten free bakery, a gluten
- 16:44Speaker 6: free restaurant somewhere, right, because now we can do that,
- 16:47Speaker 6: Thank you chat GPT.
- 16:49Speaker 5: Or you make accommodations for what you're eating.
- 16:53Speaker 6: Eat a ton of protein protein protein protein, potatoes have.
- 16:57Speaker 4: No better for you.
- 16:57Speaker 5: I don't think rice. I don't think rice as any gluten.
- 17:00Speaker 4: No, it's just wheat. It's just wheat, right, So you know,
- 17:05Speaker 4: so you could.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Have potatoes, you could have rice, you could have pasta
- 17:09Speaker 3: that wasn't wheat based. But yeah, you know, again, who
- 17:13Speaker 3: wants to eat some of that stuff? I mean, I
- 17:16Speaker 3: love rice and potatoes and those types of things. I
- 17:18Speaker 3: actually think I do too, you know, sometimes I prefer
- 17:21Speaker 3: them to other things. Although I will tell you last night,
- 17:24Speaker 3: and if you're gluten free and you're listening, I'm sorry
- 17:26Speaker 3: this is just going to totally wig you out. But
- 17:29Speaker 3: I had that meeting in midtown and I was trying
- 17:31Speaker 3: to get back to the to the McCullum manor last night,
- 17:37Speaker 3: my bride keeps teasing me, she keeps sending me a
- 17:40Speaker 3: text and she's like, I'm working on dinner. I've just
- 17:43Speaker 3: made it. It's the best carbonara you're ever going to
- 17:46Speaker 3: put in your mouth. When I got home, it was
- 17:49Speaker 3: she was not lying, she was she was telling the truth.
- 17:52Speaker 3: It was amazing And I had two servings of it
- 17:55Speaker 3: and I didn't need either one of them, but I
- 17:57Speaker 3: it was really really good. All right, So be part
- 18:00Speaker 3: of the Celiac cruise. And evidently this isn't the first
- 18:04Speaker 3: time they did one. In twenty twenty with Royal Caribbean.
- 18:08Speaker 5: Why not.
- 18:10Speaker 3: All five hundred guest spots and they've offered thirty cruises
- 18:14Speaker 3: through Royal Caribbean and Ama Waterways and Oceania over the years.
- 18:18Speaker 3: But this year they're doing it, or in twenty twenty eight, they're.
- 18:21Speaker 6: Doing twenty twenty eight, which I want to point out
- 18:23Speaker 6: Kevin is allowing them a lot of preparation. So it's
- 18:28Speaker 6: also allowing them a lot of booking time. Right, so
- 18:31Speaker 6: if they get this out now like they did, they
- 18:34Speaker 6: might be able to fill up this ship.
- 18:35Speaker 4: It's kind of a strange.
- 18:37Speaker 3: It's two years away, say, summer cruise, but it's England,
- 18:40Speaker 3: Ireland and Scotland.
- 18:42Speaker 4: Like when I think, I think of the Caribbean.
- 18:45Speaker 5: Yeah, I do two, but not in the summer.
- 18:47Speaker 6: So in the summer it's a big time to cruise
- 18:50Speaker 6: Europe because it's warmer, and especially in those places England,
- 18:54Speaker 6: Ireland and Scotland.
- 18:55Speaker 5: You're not cruising in January.
- 18:59Speaker 4: All right, let's take a break. She's Linda, I'm Kevin.
- 19:01Speaker 4: We're coming right back. It's Travel Night.
- 19:09Speaker 2: And now I'm from New York. Back to Radio Night Life.
- 19:12Speaker 2: You're Kevin Mudcolor, Welcome back.
- 19:14Speaker 4: She's Linda. I'm Kevin. It's Travel Night. It's Radio night Live.
- 19:18Speaker 3: Follow along when we're not on the air at that
- 19:21Speaker 3: Passport life dot Com sign up for the newsletter Get
- 19:23Speaker 3: our Thoughts. I saw this headline Linda, and I'm thinking,
- 19:28Speaker 3: I don't know if I agree with this. The surprising
- 19:30Speaker 3: travel habit that helps couples get along. Having dedicated alone
- 19:35Speaker 3: time on a shared vacation reduces tension and improves overall enjoyment.
- 19:39Speaker 3: A recent US survey shows most travelers prefer a few
- 19:41Speaker 3: hours of personal space each day, which helps them feel
- 19:44Speaker 3: more connected to their companions. Despite differing travel styles. That's
- 19:49Speaker 3: true until she finds him at the bar talking to
- 19:52Speaker 3: the seventeen year old, Like, that's that's.
- 19:54Speaker 5: Coming up at the end of the show, isn't.
- 19:57Speaker 6: It, Ken What?
- 19:59Speaker 3: But like, I'm sorry if you're going, if you're spending
- 20:02Speaker 3: money now, it's one thing if your marriage is already
- 20:05Speaker 3: just kind of like, well, we're just kind of associates
- 20:09Speaker 3: and we just kind of do stuff for each other.
- 20:11Speaker 4: Bill and Hillary Clinton.
- 20:12Speaker 3: If you're Bill and Hillary Clinton, I understand that you
- 20:14Speaker 3: probably want to spend most of the vacation separate from
- 20:16Speaker 3: each other. But there's a reason because she doesn't want
- 20:22Speaker 3: to spend time with her. He wants to go find
- 20:25Speaker 3: the next thing. I will think with like how I
- 20:28Speaker 3: feel about my bride. Do I want to you know,
- 20:33Speaker 3: stifle her in terms of her time and like never
- 20:35Speaker 3: give her a f no, Like if she wants to
- 20:37Speaker 3: take the afternoon and read a book and lay out
- 20:39Speaker 3: by the pool or you know, just chilling the cab,
- 20:41Speaker 3: whatever she wants, that's fine. I can go find something
- 20:44Speaker 3: to do for a little while. I don't understand people
- 20:46Speaker 3: that want to travel together that don't like each other.
- 20:49Speaker 3: They don't want, you know, enjoy each other's company.
- 20:51Speaker 6: Well, they haven't gotten the divorce yet, that's what's going
- 20:53Speaker 6: on there like that.
- 20:54Speaker 4: Probably they may be in process, but they book the trip.
- 20:57Speaker 6: Anyway, those people should divorced, forget the vacation, spend the
- 21:03Speaker 6: money on a lawyer.
- 21:04Speaker 3: So, by the way, Linda is not licensed to give
- 21:07Speaker 3: marriage advice, and we're not encouraging anybody divorces.
- 21:11Speaker 6: No, no, no, no, I don't want to give marriage advice,
- 21:13Speaker 6: trust me. So here's the thing, and I think again, Kevin,
- 21:18Speaker 6: we have to look at the human factor. It sounds
- 21:20Speaker 6: really good, Oh honey, we want to spend some quality
- 21:24Speaker 6: time together, Yes, and you should.
- 21:27Speaker 5: But close quarters, hotel, room, cruise.
- 21:31Speaker 6: You know, a cabin very different from your day to
- 21:35Speaker 6: day where you probably have breaks, even if your spouse
- 21:38Speaker 6: works at home or This piece points out that this
- 21:42Speaker 6: couple that they're referring to has offices that are adjacent
- 21:45Speaker 6: to each other or whatever, very different than being on
- 21:48Speaker 6: top of each other for let's just say seven days.
- 21:52Speaker 5: Right.
- 21:53Speaker 6: Part of a good relationship in general is the independence.
- 21:56Speaker 6: Is the separation, is the time to go and do
- 22:01Speaker 6: your own thing, even if it's away from your kids.
- 22:03Speaker 5: Kevin hate to say it away from your spouse.
- 22:05Speaker 3: Oh, I would love some independence from the kids. I'm
- 22:08Speaker 3: not against that part of it. I would love the
- 22:10Speaker 3: independence from the kids. I'm not against that part of it.
- 22:13Speaker 3: To get some get some quiet time with the bride.
- 22:16Speaker 4: That would be fun.
- 22:17Speaker 6: So I do feel that in general, this is the
- 22:21Speaker 6: right thing to do. You know, honey, I want to
- 22:22Speaker 6: go shopping this afternoon, like by myself and just zen.
- 22:27Speaker 5: You know, men are not great shoppers.
- 22:28Speaker 6: They follow the women, they're carry the bags, they're annoying.
- 22:32Speaker 4: Oh tell who told you that?
- 22:34Speaker 6: I didn't no one how to tell me anything, Kevin,
- 22:37Speaker 6: I am a lifelong shopper.
- 22:39Speaker 4: Shopper, there you are.
- 22:41Speaker 5: Yeah, there's a reason they have.
- 22:42Speaker 4: But that's why. That's why Patrick goes hunting, because he
- 22:45Speaker 4: knows you won't go shopping.
- 22:47Speaker 5: No, he's a shopper, and he's an annoying shopper. You know.
- 22:52Speaker 5: There's a reason why they have those couches in the
- 22:55Speaker 5: malls for.
- 22:56Speaker 6: Things like this, like, just don't even bring him.
- 22:59Speaker 3: I'm guilty of having sat on those couches a few times.
- 23:03Speaker 5: Well, because that's why they're there. Don't even bring them.
- 23:05Speaker 5: So the same thing carries over into.
- 23:07Speaker 6: This it's an extension, so you take an hour or
- 23:10Speaker 6: two for yourself when you come back and you like
- 23:12Speaker 6: each other more.
- 23:13Speaker 5: I mean, I think it's a great philosophy.
- 23:17Speaker 3: Well, I will tell you there's some truth to what
- 23:19Speaker 3: you're saying, because when we were in Italy last year,
- 23:23Speaker 3: we you know, and we tried to scatter the events.
- 23:27Speaker 3: So we had a boat day, and then we had
- 23:29Speaker 3: like a chill day, and then we had a you know,
- 23:31Speaker 3: a walk around town day, and then like and then
- 23:33Speaker 3: another boat day. We got to the end of the
- 23:37Speaker 3: trip and we just kind of had like a chill
- 23:39Speaker 3: day and the kids were like, I want to go
- 23:42Speaker 3: to the pool, and my bride was like, I want
- 23:45Speaker 3: to go shopping, because yeah, we had been there for
- 23:48Speaker 3: a week and we hadn't really spent any time in
- 23:52Speaker 3: any of the stores because the kids, if you think
- 23:55Speaker 3: men are bad shoppers, take kids with you everywhere, Like they're.
- 23:58Speaker 4: Why do we have to be here? Where do we done?
- 24:00Speaker 4: Can we go back to the cabin?
- 24:03Speaker 3: And so I said, well, why don't we do this?
- 24:05Speaker 3: Why don't you just go into town and just spend
- 24:09Speaker 3: the afternoon or morning or whatever you want to spend
- 24:12Speaker 3: and just you know, do it. And I'll take them
- 24:14Speaker 3: to the pool. And then and she came back with
- 24:18Speaker 3: you know, her chotchkeys and things she got and things
- 24:20Speaker 3: she was excited about sending back home and stuff. She
- 24:23Speaker 3: had had a little you know, iced coffee, and she'd
- 24:25Speaker 3: done her thing and and took some pictures and sent
- 24:28Speaker 3: them to me while she was out.
- 24:29Speaker 4: And then when we got back, it was like she was.
- 24:31Speaker 3: She was excited to tell me about her day and
- 24:33Speaker 3: her morning and what had happened. And it's like we
- 24:35Speaker 3: actually used the time apart to then make it the
- 24:39Speaker 3: subject of how we reconnected when we got back to
- 24:42Speaker 3: and she she got back in time to like have
- 24:43Speaker 3: lunch with us, you know, on the veranda of our hotel.
- 24:46Speaker 4: So it was all kind of it worked. It was
- 24:48Speaker 4: all kind of cool.
- 24:50Speaker 5: Yeah, and it does work.
- 24:52Speaker 6: And I think again it's just an extension of a
- 24:56Speaker 6: philosophy that we all do need that space, even if
- 25:00Speaker 6: it's on vacation.
- 25:01Speaker 4: We need a little bit of time to our service.
- 25:03Speaker 4: All right, stay with us. She's Lynda, I'm Kevin. We're
- 25:06Speaker 4: coming right back.
- 25:10Speaker 5: What a little moonlight can do.
- 25:12Speaker 2: It's Radio Night Live, yours Kevin mccollor.
- 25:16Speaker 4: All right, welcome, back. It's travel night.
- 25:18Speaker 3: If you if you have taken a look at airline
- 25:22Speaker 3: prices in recent days and you're you're going, what, what
- 25:27Speaker 3: the what is going on? We finally have some official news.
- 25:32Speaker 4: That explains it all. I don't know if you saw this, Linda.
- 25:36Speaker 4: Travel Pulse.
- 25:38Speaker 3: By north Star produced a story yesterday twenty twenty six
- 25:44Speaker 3: airline profits slashed in half. Guess why? A few cost
- 25:50Speaker 3: of jet fuel. And we, you know, we we've we've
- 25:56Speaker 3: felt that a little bit here at the show because
- 26:00Speaker 3: we've had to officially cancel our trip to Italy as
- 26:03Speaker 3: we just didn't have enough people signed up yet. We
- 26:06Speaker 3: were getting close, but the problem was that what we
- 26:08Speaker 3: were hearing from a lot of people is that airline
- 26:11Speaker 3: tickets were getting more and more expensive. And I don't know, Linda,
- 26:15Speaker 3: how you deal with that, but I just I can't.
- 26:20Speaker 3: And just a few weeks ago, my bride had a
- 26:23Speaker 3: family wedding and we had originally intended.
- 26:27Speaker 4: To take all five of us together to go to
- 26:30Speaker 4: the wedding.
- 26:31Speaker 3: We had originally intended for all of us to be
- 26:33Speaker 3: there and to celebrate, and the tickets were so outrageous
- 26:39Speaker 3: I was only able to send her and we were
- 26:41Speaker 3: barely able to do that to our budget because of
- 26:44Speaker 3: the thing and what you know, two years ago, I
- 26:47Speaker 3: could have bought for everyone in the family at like
- 26:50Speaker 3: four or five hundred dollars round trip. Hers was alone
- 26:54Speaker 3: over nine hundred dollars with taxes and everything. So it
- 26:57Speaker 3: was like, oh, my gosh, can't imagine how that's impacting
- 27:02Speaker 3: the stuff going overseas. Have you talked to people that are,
- 27:07Speaker 3: you know, normally traveling, have they given you any indication
- 27:10Speaker 3: that you know, this year is is a lot worse
- 27:12Speaker 3: because of that, because this is what the war is
- 27:15Speaker 3: creating for everybody.
- 27:16Speaker 4: It's creating I know.
- 27:17Speaker 6: So I mean, I have a friend that just went
- 27:19Speaker 6: to Italy and she was concerned about the prices, but
- 27:21Speaker 6: you know the thing is she had already paid for
- 27:23Speaker 6: her ticket and she was already scheduled to go and
- 27:26Speaker 6: wanted to go. And you and I have had this
- 27:28Speaker 6: discussion before that, you know, is what you want to do, Kevin,
- 27:31Speaker 6: and what you don't want to do.
- 27:32Speaker 5: You know, if you really want to travel, you.
- 27:35Speaker 6: Got that family vacation that that's all, you know, suited
- 27:38Speaker 6: up and ready to go, then.
- 27:41Speaker 5: You're probably going to go.
- 27:42Speaker 6: And you're probably going to say, okay, I'm going to
- 27:44Speaker 6: eat the thousand dollars or whatever the heck it is. Unfortunately,
- 27:49Speaker 6: and then again, how much are these prices going up?
- 27:52Speaker 1: Right?
- 27:52Speaker 5: Are they going up?
- 27:53Speaker 3: In listen to this, due to the a collective one
- 27:58Speaker 3: hundred billion dollars and fuel costs will be added to
- 28:01Speaker 3: the to the carriers in twenty twenty six. So one
- 28:05Speaker 3: hundred billion in the you add up all the airlines
- 28:08Speaker 3: and all the flights that they're flying, one hundred billion
- 28:10Speaker 3: is going to be added to costs. You know that
- 28:13Speaker 3: they're not going to just add the costs. They're going
- 28:15Speaker 3: to add a little bit of the percentage plus the
- 28:17Speaker 3: cost because they need to make a little bit of money.
- 28:19Speaker 3: But that I can't imagine that that's going to have anything,
- 28:22Speaker 3: oh seventy percent higher year over year due to the
- 28:25Speaker 3: Iran war.
- 28:27Speaker 6: Yes, and that's you know, this is what they're saying now, Kevin.
- 28:31Speaker 6: And there's always some drama, right. If there's no drama,
- 28:34Speaker 6: there's no news. That's the problem. So this is the
- 28:37Speaker 6: focus now, because you know when you and I go
- 28:39Speaker 6: to do stories, right, I have to peruse the internet
- 28:43Speaker 6: and I do and I look for stuff. You know,
- 28:46Speaker 6: there's some weeks that I have to like pull stuff
- 28:48Speaker 6: out of my ear to get a piece for us
- 28:51Speaker 6: to talk about because everything has been relatively calm. So
- 28:55Speaker 6: you know, they're going to springboard on this fuel thing
- 28:59Speaker 6: because it's fine financial and most people are hit financially
- 29:02Speaker 6: when it comes to traveling. People consider finances right, So
- 29:06Speaker 6: this is a topic that allows for a little bit
- 29:09Speaker 6: of drama in the travel industry.
- 29:12Speaker 5: It's happened before. It has not been true before. COVID
- 29:17Speaker 5: happened before.
- 29:18Speaker 6: You know, fuel increases have happened before because of other wars,
- 29:22Speaker 6: because of other things, but over time historically, so this
- 29:26Speaker 6: is not a shocker or an anomaly, to be quite
- 29:30Speaker 6: honest with you. But again it's a piece to be
- 29:33Speaker 6: able to have, you know, some banter about and say, oh,
- 29:36Speaker 6: are you going to travel because you're airfare went up?
- 29:38Speaker 5: Not that I'm putting it. I don't taking the lights.
- 29:40Speaker 4: On our legs though, I don't think that they're not.
- 29:43Speaker 5: No, no, no, no, they're not. There's another say.
- 29:45Speaker 3: Another comment from the president of the IATA, and he's
- 29:49Speaker 3: saying that the average profits for the airline industry, you know,
- 29:54Speaker 3: from from forty five billion last year to twenty three billion.
- 29:57Speaker 3: That's the profits that they're going to have that they're anticipating. Well,
- 30:00Speaker 3: if you add one hundred billion dollars into your operating
- 30:03Speaker 3: cost and you were only projecting twenty three billion in
- 30:06Speaker 3: profits to begin with, that's bad. None of us could
- 30:10Speaker 3: operate a company like that.
- 30:12Speaker 5: No, you can't. But again, you know, the industry goes
- 30:15Speaker 5: back and forth.
- 30:16Speaker 4: You know, travel and you think you think they're fibbing
- 30:19Speaker 4: to us.
- 30:20Speaker 5: I don't think they're fibbing.
- 30:21Speaker 6: I think that they are kind of like hedging is
- 30:25Speaker 6: what they're doing. They're like, well, this is going to happen,
- 30:27Speaker 6: and either you pay it or you don't travel, and
- 30:29Speaker 6: that's it. And there's no bargaining and there's no you know.
- 30:32Speaker 5: You want to go.
- 30:34Speaker 6: We got a war going on. And I do feel Kevin,
- 30:37Speaker 6: and I know that, thank god, this is conservative talk.
- 30:40Speaker 6: I do think that these fuel costs are a dig
- 30:44Speaker 6: at our president because of.
- 30:46Speaker 5: The Iran war.
- 30:47Speaker 6: When you're not going to get your head blown off
- 30:50Speaker 6: and your children are safe, So yeah, let's look at
- 30:54Speaker 6: that portion of the program.
- 30:55Speaker 5: Even if you have to pay extra for fuel.
- 30:57Speaker 6: Temporarily, those fuel prices are going to drop, and you
- 31:01Speaker 6: know what, governors of these states here, drop your state
- 31:06Speaker 6: taxes so that the federal tax will come down, and
- 31:09Speaker 6: you're going to see a complete decrease in that fuel.
- 31:12Speaker 5: Just where you are.
- 31:13Speaker 6: You can take your road trip, you can go wherever
- 31:15Speaker 6: the heck you want, throw your kids in the car
- 31:17Speaker 6: and go somewhere. So let's not just put blame on
- 31:21Speaker 6: the president. There's a lot of blame I think here
- 31:25Speaker 6: right now, and it will subside because it always does.
- 31:29Speaker 5: Right, So say it the Linda Well and in summertime.
- 31:34Speaker 6: And it's and it's summertime, and this is when they
- 31:37Speaker 6: love to get their teeth into the gas prices.
- 31:40Speaker 5: It's every year we discuss this, just like triple A.
- 31:43Speaker 6: Oh g, it's the most crowded it's ever been a
- 31:46Speaker 6: Memorial Day, and then you.
- 31:48Speaker 5: Know what Labor Day, it's the most.
- 31:49Speaker 3: Crowded, bus busiest flights.
- 31:54Speaker 5: Oh look at the airports. Shocker, it's Momorial.
- 31:58Speaker 4: I agree with you on some level.
- 32:00Speaker 3: I think that, especially for local news, they need filler
- 32:02Speaker 3: sometimes around those holidays. So what's an easy what's an
- 32:05Speaker 3: easy stand up four minute piece for the six pm?
- 32:08Speaker 3: Send somebody to the airport, wait outside of the.
- 32:10Speaker 6: Criminal Yeah, a terminal. I mean just like, whatever, Okay,
- 32:15Speaker 6: you're shocking. I've never seen this before.
- 32:17Speaker 5: God, honey, look at the TV. What is this like?
- 32:20Speaker 3: I can't well when we come back a little bit
- 32:22Speaker 3: of a serious note, but also something practical to discuss
- 32:26Speaker 3: in Perilla's pointers tonight, as we want you to stay
- 32:28Speaker 3: safe on your cruises, and there may be a very
- 32:32Speaker 3: important lessener too that Linda might have for you. She's
- 32:35Speaker 3: done a little bit stick around.
- 32:37Speaker 4: That's coming when we come back Radio night Live, Travel Tuesday, I'll.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Once again from New York. Here's Radio Night Life and
- 32:49Speaker 2: Kevin McCulla.
- 32:51Speaker 3: Welcome back. It's the final few minutes of Travel Tuesday.
- 32:54Speaker 3: She's Linda Perilla. I'm Kevin McCulla.
- 32:56Speaker 4: Linda. Always good to have you with us.
- 33:00Speaker 3: That we were talking about cruising earlier in the show,
- 33:02Speaker 3: and you know all the things associated with it, and
- 33:05Speaker 3: we talked about people wanting independence from each other. But
- 33:09Speaker 3: again I go back to the Bill Clinton kind of stereotype.
- 33:13Speaker 3: Some people want independence because they just don't like the
- 33:15Speaker 3: person that they're with and they don't want to be
- 33:17Speaker 3: they don't want to be around them, and evidently that
- 33:21Speaker 3: can also land you in jail. According to the USA Today,
- 33:25Speaker 3: Dot com on a travel story that involved a cruise
- 33:30Speaker 3: and a teenager and a man. So I'm curious because
- 33:34Speaker 3: you have a lot of kids, You've traveled, You've got
- 33:37Speaker 3: young ladies. You want them to grow up and be
- 33:39Speaker 3: safe and protected, and you like cruises, of course, what
- 33:43Speaker 3: type of things do you teach them about, because even
- 33:47Speaker 3: on a cruise you're still kind of limited in terms
- 33:50Speaker 3: of like your space and able to.
- 33:52Speaker 4: You know, flee.
- 33:53Speaker 5: Yeah you are.
- 33:54Speaker 6: But here's the other thing, Kevin. And I'm sure, I
- 33:57Speaker 6: am sure that Gloria Steine and the bra burners are
- 34:00Speaker 6: going to fling their bras at me for this comment.
- 34:03Speaker 6: It's the Harvey Weinstein like a syndrome.
- 34:08Speaker 5: Okay, don't give.
- 34:11Speaker 6: A message, don't be in a place you should not
- 34:15Speaker 6: be with some man.
- 34:18Speaker 5: Okay, I'm using man.
- 34:20Speaker 6: Loosely here because it could be anybody of any sex,
- 34:23Speaker 6: any gender, and then expect to run off and not
- 34:28Speaker 6: be partially to I hate to use the word blame.
- 34:31Speaker 6: I'm going to get in trouble for that too. A
- 34:34Speaker 6: participant in this scenario. And I tell my girls that
- 34:38Speaker 6: all the time, be smart. I'm not gonna say things
- 34:42Speaker 6: can't happen arbitrarily because they can, all right. My daughter
- 34:47Speaker 6: got roofied in Florence in a place that she had
- 34:52Speaker 6: been very familiar with, and at a bar with some friends.
- 34:56Speaker 5: I mean, things happen, So you have to be smart.
- 35:00Speaker 6: You have to walk away from your drink, get another drink,
- 35:03Speaker 6: get a drink.
- 35:04Speaker 5: Cover.
- 35:04Speaker 6: Don't be with somebody in an area that's close quarters
- 35:09Speaker 6: and there's nobody else around. Stay in public. And here's
- 35:12Speaker 6: another thing I always tell my kids. Never let anyone
- 35:17Speaker 6: here your room number. Never let anyone hear your room number.
- 35:23Speaker 6: And there's a reason why your state room carter, your
- 35:27Speaker 6: hotel key doesn't.
- 35:28Speaker 5: Have it written on there.
- 35:30Speaker 6: If you drop that, someone's got access to getting into
- 35:33Speaker 6: your room, write it down on your phone, put it
- 35:35Speaker 6: in your notes, put it in.
- 35:37Speaker 5: Some secret place.
- 35:38Speaker 6: Usually your phone is the best place to keep I
- 35:40Speaker 6: always forget my room, remember, but never have that information
- 35:44Speaker 6: out in public. Never you know, someone says your name.
- 35:47Speaker 6: This is another thing that you know. We've always told
- 35:49Speaker 6: the kids. You call someone's name, someone over there could
- 35:53Speaker 6: hear that and then later on say.
- 35:54Speaker 5: Hey, hey, my daughter's name is Valentina. Hey Valentina.
- 35:57Speaker 6: Now if she's old enough, now that she knows this
- 35:59Speaker 6: person doesn't know her, but someone who's more innocent, you know.
- 36:03Speaker 5: It's stuff like that.
- 36:04Speaker 6: It's little little things that predators will pick up on
- 36:08Speaker 6: if they want to go in for the kill.
- 36:09Speaker 4: And so much of it is common sense.
- 36:11Speaker 5: But yes it is.
- 36:12Speaker 6: Like there are products out there great that are for girls,
- 36:15Speaker 6: but they're for the kids too. There's in visaware that
- 36:17Speaker 6: you can put in your hair. It's an alarm that
- 36:20Speaker 6: you put in a scrunchy in your hair on your wrist.
- 36:23Speaker 6: It looks like a bracelet, pepper spray. There's all these
- 36:26Speaker 6: things that you have to be diligent.
- 36:29Speaker 5: About in order.
- 36:31Speaker 6: And one of the things you just went to Disney
- 36:33Speaker 6: right with my two and a half year old and
- 36:35Speaker 6: I got my daughter the insuls put them in your
- 36:38Speaker 6: sneaker and you put two air tags.
- 36:40Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, this inner soul of the sneaker.
- 36:43Speaker 6: So I mean, take advantage of those things that are
- 36:45Speaker 6: there for your protection and tracking. We didn't have that
- 36:48Speaker 6: when I was a kid in nineteen seventy five, right,
- 36:50Speaker 6: I mean, so you didn't smart.
- 36:53Speaker 4: Be smart some of the dangers either, but no, be smart.
- 36:56Speaker 3: It's really credible. All right, Linda, thank you, will see
- 36:59Speaker 3: you again next week. Friends, Thank you for being here.
- 37:01Speaker 3: Tomorrow night is wellness and health, and we'll see you then.
- 37:05Speaker 5: Peace out,
