- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Welcome back to the Almost Says Podcast. It's been here
- 0:08Speaker 2: with you today on the pod, and today I'm connecting
- 0:11Speaker 2: with someone across the pond who we all got to
- 0:14Speaker 2: know back on Colton season of the Bachelor and again
- 0:17Speaker 2: during her time on Bachelor in Paradise season six. Now
- 0:21Speaker 2: she's living her best life over in the UK. It's
- 0:25Speaker 2: Katie Morton. Hello Katie, Hi, it has been a while
- 0:31Speaker 2: since we've gotten to talk.
- 0:32Speaker 3: I know, honestly, how are you? I know we're gonna
- 0:36Speaker 3: ask how I am, et cetera about how are you?
- 0:38Speaker 2: You know, Katie, I am in a really fun season
- 0:41Speaker 2: of life and I cannot express to you how different
- 0:48Speaker 2: it really is. It's like, you know, two years ago,
- 0:54Speaker 2: a good day would mint I got a workout in
- 0:57Speaker 2: and I worked and then I had some time to
- 0:59Speaker 2: like read or chill and then hang out. Yeah, those
- 1:05Speaker 2: things still exist, not as frequently, and a good day
- 1:09Speaker 2: has enhanced with like this morning, before I did this,
- 1:13Speaker 2: my wife had a meeting and Whennie and I went
- 1:15Speaker 2: out bug hunting in our yard for like an hour
- 1:17Speaker 2: and a half, and that was incredible, Like let me
- 1:20Speaker 2: tell you, there is no greater joy than seeing like
- 1:23Speaker 2: a little kid get excited about something crawling on the
- 1:27Speaker 2: ground and that you're excited with them. So life looks different,
- 1:31Speaker 2: but it's so good.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Yeah. I keep hearing that it's like having kids opened
- 1:36Speaker 3: your eyes to seeing life in a new again. Mm hm,
- 1:40Speaker 3: like a whole new way, and you're re experiencing life
- 1:43Speaker 3: from a completely different perspective. And I feel like that's
- 1:47Speaker 3: one thing I'm really excited about and sounds just so magical.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and there's an excitement to life that I think
- 1:54Speaker 2: just like comes off on YouTube because they're excited about everything,
- 1:58Speaker 2: and you're now excited about everything. And so many people
- 2:02Speaker 2: had so many different things to me to say to
- 2:04Speaker 2: me about having kids. Right some were like super jacked
- 2:07Speaker 2: about it and said, hey, this is the coolest thing ever.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Others were like, oh, there goes your golf game, and
- 2:13Speaker 2: it's yeah, it's one hundred percent good. Like there are
- 2:17Speaker 2: like things that I wish I didn't have to do,
- 2:19Speaker 2: like my knees hurt from squatting a thousand times a day.
- 2:23Speaker 2: But I think the perspective is when you are in
- 2:26Speaker 2: the right place for it, there's no greater gift.
- 2:29Speaker 3: I think the good probably always the bad.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I couldn't even tell you. I was trying to think
- 2:33Speaker 2: when I said it, like, what is something bad that
- 2:36Speaker 2: I have to that Jess and I have to do now?
- 2:38Speaker 2: And I can't really even think of anything bad. There's
- 2:40Speaker 2: like unfortunate things like I still don't love cleaning a diaper,
- 2:43Speaker 2: but you do it and it's not that bad.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Yeah, it's kind of like I don't like not that
- 2:47Speaker 3: this is a comparison, but like I don't like doing
- 2:48Speaker 3: the dishes.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Yeah it is. It's very like it's like.
- 2:51Speaker 3: It's a part of life, like you have to do it.
- 2:53Speaker 3: It's not making my life worse.
- 2:54Speaker 2: It's not making my life.
- 2:56Speaker 3: It's making my life better in the sense I'm not
- 2:57Speaker 3: living in filth. Yeah, obviously it's completely not the same
- 3:02Speaker 3: as having a baby, but there's so many things in
- 3:04Speaker 3: life that it's going to be like, yeah, I don't
- 3:05Speaker 3: like that, but I have to do it.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Yes, Katie, you were entering into something I would my
- 3:09Speaker 2: only advice to you would be to say, buckle up,
- 3:12Speaker 2: it's going to be an incredible ride.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Okay, great, and you can do it.
- 3:16Speaker 2: So, Hey, you're living in the UK, now, obviously we
- 3:20Speaker 2: just got in with the World Cup over here in
- 3:22Speaker 2: the States and England finished the highest day finished since
- 3:25Speaker 2: their win in nineteen sixty six. What's the vibe like there,
- 3:31Speaker 2: Because I know there were high expectations.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Right, there was high hopes. I'm not sure if the
- 3:38Speaker 3: expectations were as high as the hopes were to be
- 3:41Speaker 3: completely honest. Also, British people are super known for like
- 3:44Speaker 3: sweeping things under the rug. So as soon as we
- 3:47Speaker 3: did not win, it was very much like, oh, anyway,
- 3:54Speaker 3: it was very much as if it didn't happen for
- 3:58Speaker 3: a lot of people. The next day, it didn't feel
- 4:01Speaker 3: like the vibes were low. I thought vibes were going
- 4:02Speaker 3: to be low. It was oh, we aren't talking about
- 4:06Speaker 3: it really, okay. Yeah, And so it was more like
- 4:11Speaker 3: as soon as we lost, everyone that I was around
- 4:15Speaker 3: was like, oh, well, Spain's gonna win basically, and so yeah,
- 4:19Speaker 3: the vibe was very high though going into the game,
- 4:23Speaker 3: people were hoping and praying because they were basically going
- 4:26Speaker 3: to make Monday Bank holiday if England won. And yeah,
- 4:31Speaker 3: so there's lots of pride, but also at the same
- 4:33Speaker 3: time England's I'm sure there's groups of people in England
- 4:36Speaker 3: that are like sore losers. But I feel like there's
- 4:38Speaker 3: other pockets of England that just pretend nothing ever happened,
- 4:40Speaker 3: and I was in whatever pocket that was.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Are you? I mean, I don't even know if this
- 4:46Speaker 2: is a fair question ask. You don't even have to
- 4:47Speaker 2: answer it. But if USA played England right now in
- 4:50Speaker 2: the World Cup Finals, who are you cheering for?
- 4:53Speaker 3: USA?
- 4:54Speaker 4: Okay, but honestly, Norway the USA, Ya's USA, But it
- 5:05Speaker 4: would mainly be for funsies to go against everybody I
- 5:09Speaker 4: know here.
- 5:10Speaker 3: But also I have a lot of American friends here,
- 5:12Speaker 3: so we'd all kind of band together.
- 5:14Speaker 2: The move to the UK happened, I believe in like
- 5:17Speaker 2: twenty twenty two, correct, So it's been give or take
- 5:21Speaker 2: four years. Yeah, what's been the hardest part?
- 5:24Speaker 3: The transition wasn't too hard. It was more figuring out
- 5:31Speaker 3: like visas all the time, constantly having to either try
- 5:36Speaker 3: and get like a student. I had to get a
- 5:38Speaker 3: student visa at one point and did my masters, not
- 5:41Speaker 3: even to really do my masters, but because I really
- 5:43Speaker 3: liked it here, I was like, I gotta find a way.
- 5:46Speaker 3: I just wanted to experience it, and I completely understand
- 5:51Speaker 3: why you can't just move to a country and then
- 5:52Speaker 3: just live there. But I really wanted to, so I
- 5:56Speaker 3: was like, I'm going to do what it takes. So
- 5:59Speaker 3: I just wanted to have experience. A lot of people
- 6:01Speaker 3: come over on work visas and with social media and stuff,
- 6:04Speaker 3: it's just you can't go to work visa Like that's
- 6:06Speaker 3: not a thing. So I went back to school and
- 6:10Speaker 3: that was It was the visa stuff that was hard.
- 6:13Speaker 3: But other than that, I also had like gone through
- 6:16Speaker 3: a breakup when I first came over. Oh, and that
- 6:20Speaker 3: was really hard but fine, Like it actually was really
- 6:25Speaker 3: nice because it kind of like introduced me to England
- 6:28Speaker 3: and then I really liked it, so it was a
- 6:31Speaker 3: silver lining.
- 6:33Speaker 2: So would you go back to get your master's on
- 6:35Speaker 2: business business? Okay?
- 6:36Speaker 3: I did business admin.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess I don't know this. I don't remember
- 6:40Speaker 2: this part of your story. I do. I think remember
- 6:42Speaker 2: a breakup, but you are now married. So you moved
- 6:46Speaker 2: to the UK, I guess in my mind.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Dating someone that was from England and we lived We
- 6:51Speaker 3: were dating for a well over year and a half
- 6:55Speaker 3: before moving to England and his job was an Englis
- 7:00Speaker 3: and so we moved here and then I was just like,
- 7:04Speaker 3: this is not my forever person. Okay, I mean it
- 7:08Speaker 3: was just clear for me. I just like saw it
- 7:10Speaker 3: so clearly. And then I saw my life so clearly,
- 7:12Speaker 3: and then I was like, this isn't my forever person,
- 7:14Speaker 3: but dang it, I really like it here. So obviously
- 7:17Speaker 3: I was meant to come here for a reason. And
- 7:20Speaker 3: at first I was like, am I just being stubborn
- 7:21Speaker 3: just because I've done all this work? I just don't
- 7:23Speaker 3: want to go home now? But I really liked it.
- 7:26Speaker 3: I was like, I feel some sense of peace here
- 7:29Speaker 3: that I didn't quite feel when I lived in La
- 7:32Speaker 3: And I'm sure I could have done something easier, like
- 7:33Speaker 3: moved to Colorado felt sense of peace there, but it
- 7:38Speaker 3: just so happened that I found a community really quickly
- 7:41Speaker 3: here and found that sense of peace. So I just
- 7:44Speaker 3: decided to like send it.
- 7:46Speaker 2: And then you met Nick, which is your now husband,
- 7:49Speaker 2: while kind of in the in between over there.
- 7:52Speaker 3: While I was when I was just about to finish school. Okay,
- 7:56Speaker 3: I met Nick and on Hinge.
- 8:00Speaker 2: It or not good for you.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Everyone's like meeting on Hinge Tuesdays, but we met on
- 8:04Speaker 3: Hinge and I was dating just generally at that time.
- 8:10Speaker 3: It was the summer two years ago, and we just
- 8:16Speaker 3: kind of kept hanging out forever.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:19Speaker 3: It was ard of one of those things. It wasn't like,
- 8:21Speaker 3: oh my god, we just fill madly in love. It
- 8:23Speaker 3: was just like we just kept wanting to hang out
- 8:26Speaker 3: with each other and didn't stop. Yeah, and then now
- 8:32Speaker 3: we're worried.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Now you're married, and on June eighteenth, Katie, you announced
- 8:39Speaker 2: that you're expecting. Uh, do you too know the gender
- 8:44Speaker 2: of the baby?
- 8:45Speaker 3: Yes, we do. It's a boy.
- 8:47Speaker 2: It's a boy.
- 8:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:50Speaker 2: How do you feel about boy?
- 8:51Speaker 3: I mean, I feel so good. It's crazy because for
- 8:55Speaker 3: many many years I was like, I'm going to be
- 8:57Speaker 3: a boy mom. There's just like I feel that I'm
- 9:00Speaker 3: a boy mom. I don't know why I said that,
- 9:02Speaker 3: because like a girl would be great. And the week
- 9:05Speaker 3: leading up to finding out the gender, I was like, actually,
- 9:07Speaker 3: maybe I want a girl, like I know how to
- 9:09Speaker 3: do girl things. Like I take it back, like maybe
- 9:12Speaker 3: it's a girl. Maybe a girl, And I was like,
- 9:14Speaker 3: what about dance, you know? And I was like, but
- 9:17Speaker 3: I always said I would be a boy mom. And
- 9:19Speaker 3: then we found out it's a boy, and I was
- 9:21Speaker 3: over the moon. I was gonna be happy either way.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Sure, Oh I don't think. I think when that questions asked,
- 9:27Speaker 2: I don't think there is a a better or worse.
- 9:30Speaker 2: I do find it interesting, though, because if I was
- 9:33Speaker 2: honest with myself, I would say, yeah, I was always
- 9:36Speaker 2: going to be a girl, dad, like a hundred percent
- 9:39Speaker 2: you were.
- 9:40Speaker 3: You really were always going to be a girl dad.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Yeah, like there was zero dow. I mean, I don't know.
- 9:44Speaker 2: One day, maybe a little boy squeaks in there. But
- 9:47Speaker 2: I always knew that I was built, you know, to
- 9:52Speaker 2: get stickers put on my face, and you know, like
- 9:57Speaker 2: you could have.
- 9:58Speaker 3: A boy and you will be so great and it
- 10:00Speaker 3: would make so much sense whatever. But you were going
- 10:03Speaker 3: to be a girl dad. It was no question. And
- 10:06Speaker 3: that's literally how I have felt if like, that's how
- 10:10Speaker 3: I've always kind of felt, like I'm probably going to
- 10:13Speaker 3: be a boy mom.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Yeah. Sure, like I just like.
- 10:16Speaker 5: That's who I am.
- 10:28Speaker 2: What about Nick?
- 10:29Speaker 3: He didn't carry either way. He's one of three boys,
- 10:33Speaker 3: so the chances of having a boy were higher. Yeah,
- 10:36Speaker 3: let's be honest. He didn't carry their way. But he
- 10:40Speaker 3: did look a little like for two seconds sad, he goes,
- 10:43Speaker 3: I thought it was going to be a girl. All yeah,
- 10:47Speaker 3: like you could just tell like he was like, I
- 10:50Speaker 3: actually thought I was going to be a girl. And
- 10:51Speaker 3: the way he looked like was just like I'm excited
- 10:54Speaker 3: it's a boy. But man, that would have been also
- 10:56Speaker 3: very cool. And I guess it's not like a gender
- 10:59Speaker 3: disappointment thing you do like mourn for two seconds, like
- 11:02Speaker 3: your life could go one way or another, not that
- 11:04Speaker 3: it's side stone, but for a couple of seconds you're
- 11:08Speaker 3: like you see it the years.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Well, and I think I would imagine, if we speak
- 11:14Speaker 2: for him, if you grew up with all boys, there
- 11:16Speaker 2: is an excitement to the new of like a girl,
- 11:19Speaker 2: possibility of hey, the boy would be great, but I've
- 11:23Speaker 2: done this boy thing for a long time surrounded by boys,
- 11:27Speaker 2: Like having another like little girl would be exciting. It
- 11:30Speaker 2: would be different.
- 11:32Speaker 3: Yeah, And he did say like it would be a
- 11:34Speaker 3: little me and like when he's talked about it, he'd
- 11:38Speaker 3: be like, is it be a little you like attitude
- 11:41Speaker 3: and all. Yeah, but his best friend has a girl,
- 11:44Speaker 3: and I think his best friend's really softened up having
- 11:47Speaker 3: a girl. So I think he really has enjoyed seeing
- 11:51Speaker 3: his friend kind of change in that way. Yeah, So
- 11:56Speaker 3: I think that's kind of what was behind it. But
- 11:58Speaker 3: he's going to be a great yeah either.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Way, Yeah, one hundred percent. No, they definitely do make
- 12:03Speaker 2: me softer. The obviously, my wife is pregnant right now.
- 12:08Speaker 2: I this is our second go around. I've seen the
- 12:11Speaker 2: different stages of pregnancy all miraculous and wonderful, and I'm
- 12:16Speaker 2: so glad I don't have to do it. But you know,
- 12:20Speaker 2: you opened up in the past about being diagnosed with narcolepsy,
- 12:25Speaker 2: and I don't think that's like com I mean, you've
- 12:27Speaker 2: talked about it publicly, but I was before we got on.
- 12:32Speaker 2: I wanted to make sure that that was true and
- 12:33Speaker 2: that you didn't mind talking about it. I know that
- 12:36Speaker 2: being pregnant makes you very tired, uh, and your energies
- 12:40Speaker 2: are sucked. I'm assuming and you tell me, I'm just
- 12:44Speaker 2: this is my question is does narcolepsy make it worse?
- 12:47Speaker 2: Is there like a like what's happening in your body now?
- 12:50Speaker 3: Yeah? So, I mean, of course I can't quite compare
- 12:56Speaker 3: because I don't know without it. But my first trimester,
- 13:02Speaker 3: like a lot of women, I was so wiped, but
- 13:05Speaker 3: I did have it felt so uncontrollable with narcolepsy. I
- 13:10Speaker 3: feel like I've felt times where I felt it being
- 13:16Speaker 3: more like narcolepsy, and then I felt it being more
- 13:18Speaker 3: like something I'm not experienced, and that's where I was like,
- 13:22Speaker 3: there seems to be a difference here between when it's
- 13:24Speaker 3: a narcaliptic situation and when it's pregnancy or aka the
- 13:31Speaker 3: thing I've not experienced yet, because narcolepsy feels like I'm
- 13:35Speaker 3: like weak to my core, like my muscles are melting
- 13:37Speaker 3: into the bed type of thing, and pregnancy just felt
- 13:39Speaker 3: like like head tired, like I just had to just
- 13:43Speaker 3: get to sleep. And there were times when it felt
- 13:46Speaker 3: like both and I couldn't quite determine either way. I
- 13:48Speaker 3: was sleeping all the time. And now, because narcolepsy's kind
- 13:53Speaker 3: of also characterized by not getting RESTful sleep, it's really
- 13:58Speaker 3: hard to decipher, Like, Okay, I know as people get bigger,
- 14:02Speaker 3: their sleep isn't as RESTful as well, So like is
- 14:04Speaker 3: this narclepsy is it pregnancy? What I can say is
- 14:08Speaker 3: I'm feeling really lucky because I had to get off
- 14:11Speaker 3: of my narcollepsy medication in order to do this pregnancy
- 14:16Speaker 3: because there could be a lot of bad side effects
- 14:19Speaker 3: et cetera. And so I was really nervous that it
- 14:23Speaker 3: could take me out more than it has, and I
- 14:28Speaker 3: feel like I'm very well managed. But I have slept
- 14:32Speaker 3: more during the day than I normally ever would. But
- 14:36Speaker 3: I'm like, also, other other pregnant people are too. I
- 14:40Speaker 3: will say, though, I think it's really beneficial for me,
- 14:43Speaker 3: as someone who's narcleptic and pregnant to not have a
- 14:46Speaker 3: traditional nine to five. I think that that would be
- 14:50Speaker 3: a different story, and I think that I would be
- 14:53Speaker 3: not as effective for whoever my employer was, because I
- 14:58Speaker 3: can tell I like space out more. I'm just like
- 15:03Speaker 3: I can get really slow in conversation and my processing
- 15:06Speaker 3: times are slower, and I'm just tired from I mean
- 15:12Speaker 3: nine am until until so I have spouts of energy
- 15:17Speaker 3: and I try and do everything in the morning and
- 15:19Speaker 3: then in the afternoons. I like, see how I'm feeling,
- 15:22Speaker 3: but I really can't tell because other women are saying
- 15:27Speaker 3: they're super tired when they're pregnant.
- 15:28Speaker 2: So I'm like, I don't know, it sounds like a blessing.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Then like that you can't tell, Like it sounds like
- 15:35Speaker 2: it's the best case scenario, right, Yeah.
- 15:37Speaker 3: Because I have narcolepsy with cataplexy, which is like technically
- 15:41Speaker 3: the falling over, but I don't fall over sleeping. I
- 15:44Speaker 3: follow over with big emotions like laughing. I will like
- 15:48Speaker 3: my knees will go weak and I'll like fall on
- 15:51Speaker 3: the floor, like I'll like drop to my knees like laughing,
- 15:54Speaker 3: And that is part of narcolepsy. But it doesn't look
- 15:57Speaker 3: like it. It just looks like I'm dramatic.
- 16:00Speaker 2: I mean, I don't want to like derail us here
- 16:03Speaker 2: from the big moment of you bringing life into this world.
- 16:07Speaker 2: But narcolepsy is very fascinating to me because obviously I'm
- 16:11Speaker 2: only familiar with uh well, I'm most familiar with like
- 16:15Speaker 2: the movie scenes where somebody's driving and all of a
- 16:17Speaker 2: sudden they're.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Like or like rat race, like with mister p.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, Is that how it is or is it different?
- 16:24Speaker 3: No, it's not. It's it constantly is like misdiagnosed as
- 16:28Speaker 3: depression or ADHD or like. It takes people eight to
- 16:33Speaker 3: ten years typically to get diagnosed with narcolepsy because it's
- 16:37Speaker 3: hides itself as so many other things because technically it's
- 16:41Speaker 3: excessive daytime sleepiness, but oh so many things can cause
- 16:44Speaker 3: excessive day time sleepiness, like how late you stay up,
- 16:48Speaker 3: how much you're on your phone, how stressed you are,
- 16:50Speaker 3: Like there's a million things, so it's hard for people.
- 16:53Speaker 3: And I just had a family history of seizures, which
- 16:57Speaker 3: is why they tested me for seizures and found out
- 17:00Speaker 3: I had narcolepsy. But I mean, anytime I cry, I
- 17:04Speaker 3: have to take a nap afterwards because I can't keep
- 17:07Speaker 3: my eyes open. If I'm laughing like way too hard,
- 17:10Speaker 3: way too much, I'm like too weak to stand up.
- 17:12Speaker 3: So that's part of the cataplexy thing. But I'm not
- 17:15Speaker 3: falling over falling asleep. And I kind of describe it
- 17:18Speaker 3: as like a toddler, like I get hyper or cranky
- 17:25Speaker 3: right before I need a nap.
- 17:26Speaker 2: But you were diagnosed as a teenager. But then, how
- 17:28Speaker 2: long the world did you do the Bachelor? I don't know.
- 17:32Speaker 2: I mean I think there's like way medicine, Okay, I
- 17:35Speaker 2: was gonna say Paradise feels like it would be a
- 17:37Speaker 2: consistent emotional rollercoaster of needing to sleep.
- 17:40Speaker 3: Oh it was. It was like Paradise was I obviously
- 17:45Speaker 3: was on medicine, but at the same time, like your
- 17:47Speaker 3: medicine's only supposed to you're supposed to still sleep a
- 17:50Speaker 3: good night's sleep, yeah, and then take medicine and you're
- 17:53Speaker 3: not doing that. So there was this cry scene that
- 17:58Speaker 3: I remember with what Wills and I.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Will blubbering Wills, Okay.
- 18:05Speaker 3: I was blubbering. I just remember. I was like, my
- 18:10Speaker 3: brain was malfunctioning. I was not computing. I was crying.
- 18:15Speaker 3: I felt so tired. I was like, I just want
- 18:16Speaker 3: to go to bed and I don't want to deal
- 18:17Speaker 3: with strong emotions right now. And I had no choice,
- 18:22Speaker 3: and I don't even know what came out of my mouth.
- 18:24Speaker 3: It wasn't English, it was. But yeah, I think there
- 18:29Speaker 3: were definitely moments on Paradise where I think there's a
- 18:31Speaker 3: couple of scenes where I'm doing this and it looks
- 18:33Speaker 3: like I'm crying, but I'm like, I just want to
- 18:34Speaker 3: go to bed. Yeah, So yeah, it was hard.
- 18:38Speaker 2: I bet Okay, switching back gears here, I just want
- 18:42Speaker 2: to send you a word of support of Hey, yeah,
- 18:46Speaker 2: pregnancy is not easy on anybody. It's a big deal.
- 18:49Speaker 2: It's a wild thing. It's crazy when you start to
- 18:53Speaker 2: think too much about it. And you've got a lot
- 18:57Speaker 2: of people probably listening to this that are just sending
- 18:59Speaker 2: their thoughts of support as you continue through it. It's
- 19:03Speaker 2: worth it, it is, Yeah, And I hope that you
- 19:05Speaker 2: get like a really good sleeper, Like I hope that
- 19:08Speaker 2: for you. I hope this little guy comes down and
- 19:10Speaker 2: he's like, I'm gonna give mom good night's rest. Yeah,
- 19:15Speaker 2: but it also flies by. I mean goodness, it's like
- 19:18Speaker 2: three months and all of a sudden, like sleeping gets
- 19:20Speaker 2: better for most, not all.
- 19:23Speaker 3: And there's something to be said about adrenaline. Adrenaline will
- 19:25Speaker 3: carry you far and like, yeah, like it's not like
- 19:29Speaker 3: because with narcolepsy, like I'm still totally affected by adrenaline,
- 19:33Speaker 3: and so if I feel like it's like I need
- 19:35Speaker 3: to do this as like or death, like adrenaline will
- 19:37Speaker 3: kick it.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, it's it's uh, it's it's a wild time
- 19:41Speaker 2: that I don't even hardly remember. And it wasn't that
- 19:44Speaker 2: long ago for me that the first you just kind
- 19:45Speaker 2: of do it and then you know, all of a sudden,
- 19:49Speaker 2: you have a little kid walking around. I am curious though,
- 20:03Speaker 2: You've done a lot of interesting things in your life. Obviously,
- 20:06Speaker 2: as we mentioned Nick, you've gotten married. He sounds great.
- 20:10Speaker 2: You've mentioned his excitement in becoming a dad, but you
- 20:15Speaker 2: also moved to the UK has what's the wildest UK
- 20:19Speaker 2: slang that you can't quite get used to or that
- 20:23Speaker 2: makes you giggle every time you hear it?
- 20:24Speaker 3: Wildness UK slang? Oh my plate teacher called me popit
- 20:28Speaker 3: this morning?
- 20:29Speaker 2: What does that mean?
- 20:30Speaker 3: She's like, you are right, popit? Or like she said
- 20:33Speaker 3: something like pop it. That's just like darling, but it's
- 20:39Speaker 3: very like an East London vibe. But she's said it
- 20:44Speaker 3: was such a thick accent. So if anyone ever calls
- 20:46Speaker 3: me popit, I giggle because it just feels so.
- 20:51Speaker 2: British does yeah, yeah.
- 20:54Speaker 3: It's like you get pop it and she does a
- 20:57Speaker 3: little thing the whole you all right, you're are you
- 21:00Speaker 3: all right? People say you are right that that means
- 21:03Speaker 3: like how are you, but they actually don't expect a response.
- 21:07Speaker 3: And I used to say I'm okay and you and
- 21:10Speaker 3: that's not really what they're looking for. It's you all right,
- 21:15Speaker 3: and then you say you are right and then it's done.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Oh so you respond with the same thing they just said,
- 21:20Speaker 2: like no one.
- 21:21Speaker 3: Cares okay, it's like you're right, yeah, you're right, and
- 21:24Speaker 3: then you're done. And then that's it's like, hey, hey,
- 21:29Speaker 3: so that I was very confused in the beginning, and
- 21:31Speaker 3: I was answering very robotically and caught off guard because
- 21:34Speaker 3: I'd be like, I'm fine, yeah, like I'm okay. So
- 21:39Speaker 3: that I guess popa is one I can think of
- 21:41Speaker 3: off the top of my head because it's just like
- 21:43Speaker 3: cute and funny.
- 21:44Speaker 2: The uh, well, I think that is cute and funny.
- 21:47Speaker 2: Have you noticed yourself developing an accent?
- 21:49Speaker 3: No, I don't have an accent. I don't think, but
- 21:53Speaker 3: I do say different words. I say quite quite a lot.
- 21:59Speaker 3: I say quite You're like that's quite nice. I say
- 22:03Speaker 3: stuff like that, but I don't have an accent. I
- 22:06Speaker 3: actually ran into an American this weekend who was while
- 22:11Speaker 3: you were in the Cotswaltz and she said, are you
- 22:13Speaker 3: guys from America? The whole table was except for Nick
- 22:17Speaker 3: and we were like yeah, And I was like, are
- 22:19Speaker 3: you obviously from here? And she's like, no, I'm from
- 22:22Speaker 3: America and I was like, you're British. Her accent was
- 22:28Speaker 3: so and I was like, people always ask me that question,
- 22:32Speaker 3: do you find yourself developing an accent? I'm like, no,
- 22:34Speaker 3: how could you kind of thing? She can she did,
- 22:38Speaker 3: She's been here for two years, so I was like, Okay,
- 22:40Speaker 3: I guess it's not going to happen for me. Like
- 22:42Speaker 3: my accent is how I sound, but I think some
- 22:45Speaker 3: people are maybe more susceptible.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I could find myself. I mean honestly, I think
- 22:51Speaker 2: I would be one. When I go down and spend
- 22:53Speaker 2: months in Honduras, like I'll I'll be starting to like
- 22:59Speaker 2: speak the speak the language here, the language, understand the
- 23:02Speaker 2: language use similar like slang in terms that they use
- 23:05Speaker 2: in the Yeah, in the in the region that I'm in,
- 23:08Speaker 2: And then I get back here and I'm a month
- 23:10Speaker 2: back in the States and I don't have any of
- 23:12Speaker 2: it left. Like I don't know. I'm a weird one
- 23:14Speaker 2: like that. I'm very susceptible to the environment I'm in.
- 23:17Speaker 2: I think, well, I say.
- 23:18Speaker 3: The words and some of the slang, but there's a
- 23:20Speaker 3: difference between completely having the accent m yeah, and sounding
- 23:25Speaker 3: like you are from there.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:27Speaker 3: I was susceptible to mocking when I first got here
- 23:30Speaker 3: on accident. Really not mocking, but like kind of because
- 23:34Speaker 3: if someone had a really strong accent, I would almost
- 23:37Speaker 3: do it back.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Sure that happened, Yeah, that may I'm glad you said
- 23:41Speaker 2: it makes sense like you would. It's almost like watching
- 23:44Speaker 2: a movie and like quoting the line back when it's
- 23:46Speaker 2: like somebody British on the movie and you're like that,
- 23:48Speaker 2: that's like a really cool way they said that, and
- 23:50Speaker 2: then you say it back to them and then like
- 23:52Speaker 2: what do you do?
- 23:53Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's like oh, sorry, yeah.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Yeah, hey Katie. As we close up here, it's so
- 24:01Speaker 2: good to catch up with you. I you know, there's
- 24:04Speaker 2: a lot of reasons why I want to have you
- 24:06Speaker 2: on the talk. One of the biggest is, obviously, you know,
- 24:10Speaker 2: the celebration of a marriage and life coming into the world.
- 24:13Speaker 2: What are you and Nick, if you can speak for him,
- 24:16Speaker 2: most excited about when it comes to being parents or
- 24:20Speaker 2: most nervous about. Does the nerves outweigh the excitement right now?
- 24:24Speaker 2: And that's okay if it does.
- 24:26Speaker 3: I think in the beginning it did, because it all
- 24:29Speaker 3: felt like, oh, okay, so we're okay, so I'm pregnant,
- 24:34Speaker 3: and so it felt very like, Okay, this is big,
- 24:37Speaker 3: this is a big deal, because up until then it's
- 24:40Speaker 3: very conceptual, like it's so much like a concept, like
- 24:43Speaker 3: I couldn't quite make it reel in my head, I
- 24:46Speaker 3: think what we're most I'm most nervous about, naturally is
- 24:51Speaker 3: just the labor day, the day of giving birth. I
- 24:55Speaker 3: think what we're most excited about is probably also the
- 25:01Speaker 3: day of giving birth simultaneously. But also I'm excited to
- 25:07Speaker 3: see us both change, like in the way that our
- 25:14Speaker 3: hearts will both expand because I think we're both filled
- 25:18Speaker 3: with a lot of love, and I'm excited to kind
- 25:21Speaker 3: of just like fall in love with something so much.
- 25:26Speaker 3: I feel like that's my biggest excitement, is like I
- 25:28Speaker 3: get something to fall in love with that's all ours.
- 25:34Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, there's many a night where we'll be
- 25:37Speaker 2: laying in bed as a family and jess what it
- 25:39Speaker 2: can mean and say, can you believe she's ours? And
- 25:42Speaker 2: you just can't. It's it's impossible. And that first day
- 25:48Speaker 2: is is a wild experience for you and Nick and
- 25:53Speaker 2: everybody involved. And then it is just filled with the
- 25:56Speaker 2: most the coolest thing ever. And that's what I want
- 25:58Speaker 2: to share is it's you. You are going to be great.
- 26:01Speaker 2: It's gonna rocket, It's gonna be an incredible ride here
- 26:06Speaker 2: of a life full of love. Let me tell you
- 26:09Speaker 2: that that is one thing I can promise you is
- 26:11Speaker 2: love is not the issue. Uh, there's so much love
- 26:15Speaker 2: that comes in. It's the greatest thing ever. And so
- 26:18Speaker 2: I'm pumped for you. I'm excited for the two of
- 26:21Speaker 2: you to do this together. And I'm also excited for
- 26:23Speaker 2: that first moment where you because I do it with
- 26:27Speaker 2: my wife, I know she does with me. Like when
- 26:29Speaker 2: you see Nick step into that dad role and you're
- 26:33Speaker 2: watching this person that you love love on this other
- 26:35Speaker 2: thing that you love, and goodness, the world will never
- 26:40Speaker 2: be the same. Yeah, it just changes everything. It's the
- 26:42Speaker 2: best crazy Yeah.
- 26:45Speaker 3: So yeah, that's really crazy.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Yeah, it's fun.
- 26:49Speaker 3: I'm so happy for you.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Well, thank you. I'm happy for you. It's a it's
- 26:53Speaker 2: a it's a good thing to celebrate. Uh, it's it's
- 26:56Speaker 2: a fun chapter in life that you're You said it perfectly,
- 26:59Speaker 2: like it's all conceptual. And I was the most nervous
- 27:04Speaker 2: person internally leading up to having a child, Like, wait,
- 27:07Speaker 2: do I really think I can do this? Do I
- 27:09Speaker 2: really want to do this? Was a question?
- 27:11Speaker 3: Yeah, how am I? That was my questions in the
- 27:13Speaker 3: first trimester. And now I'm more of like, it's already happening.
- 27:16Speaker 2: Yeah, and then once it happens you're like, oh, yeah,
- 27:20Speaker 2: like this is all this is the best.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Yeah, it's been like whoa, oh my god, Okay, do
- 27:25Speaker 3: I actually want to be a parent? Well okay, well
- 27:27Speaker 3: no I'm gonna so.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:29Speaker 3: It's very much like.
- 27:31Speaker 2: And then you and then you are and then you
- 27:35Speaker 2: don't question anything. Yeah, more than if you know how
- 27:38Speaker 2: to do it and you'll figure it out along the way.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Nobody does perfectly. So Katie, pumped for you, will be
- 27:45Speaker 2: following your journey. When's the due date?
- 27:47Speaker 3: End of November? November Thanksgiving baby, there you go.
- 27:52Speaker 2: The holiday babies, We're we're doing to end of December.
- 27:55Speaker 2: So well, if you need anything to the end of December. Yeah,
- 28:01Speaker 2: holiday babies, Yeah, they're just I just don't want them
- 28:05Speaker 2: to have to share a birthday with a holiday. That's
- 28:07Speaker 2: my one hope, selfish hope for them. Katie. Congrats, keep
- 28:13Speaker 2: being you, thanks for jumping on today, and we wish
