- 0:00Speaker 1: The following program is produced by the Tech Talk Radio Network.
- 0:03Speaker 2: All Right, people, take out your notebooks and pencils and
- 0:05Speaker 2: tribe rolls. You're listening to tech Talk Radio with true geeks.
- 0:10Speaker 2: And by the way, I'm Besider and I'm a geek too.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Welcome to another episode of tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm.
- 0:19Speaker 4: Seana Weird, I'm Slick, I'm Matt Jones, and I'm justin leme.
- 0:24Speaker 1: It's good to see everybody. I think this is the
- 0:26Speaker 1: most we've had on a show in months.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:29Speaker 5: Can you is it room for all of these people
- 0:31Speaker 5: in the screen.
- 0:33Speaker 3: We're all fitting in here.
- 0:35Speaker 5: Boy.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Anyway, we were gonna have a guest today and I'm
- 0:40Speaker 1: I'm kind of bummed because they weren't able to make it.
- 0:43Speaker 1: And we were to talk about UFOs hmm, a little
- 0:46Speaker 1: different kind of interested in that, So here for that. Yeah,
- 0:50Speaker 1: I know you were like the first one to chime in. Oh,
- 0:52Speaker 1: I'm ready, I'm ready. The reason is we'll just go
- 0:55Speaker 1: We'll go ahead and talk about this. There's a guy
- 0:57Speaker 1: named Luis Elizondo and he's written a book. It's called
- 1:00Speaker 1: Immiment Imminent Imminent, Thank you. What is an imminent Imminent
- 1:07Speaker 1: Inside the Pentagon's Hunt.
- 1:14Speaker 6: Andy, do you smell burnt toast?
- 1:17Speaker 5: What? Wait that?
- 1:18Speaker 3: What would that mean?
- 1:20Speaker 6: That would mean the stroke is real?
- 1:27Speaker 3: Oh man, you were saying, thanks a lot, Thanks a lot, guys.
- 1:34Speaker 7: Uh.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Anyway, this guy, Lewis Alessandro has written a book called
- 1:38Speaker 1: Imminent Inside the Pentagon's Hunt for UFOs and I guess
- 1:43Speaker 1: he's the former head of the Pentagon program investigating UAPs.
- 1:46Speaker 3: I don't even know what those are.
- 1:48Speaker 7: Uh.
- 1:49Speaker 3: And he's been on Joe Rogan's show. Uh.
- 1:52Speaker 1: And this woman who knows him, Teresa Tendell, was gonna
- 1:56Speaker 1: come on because he's going to be at the rialto
- 1:58Speaker 1: theater coming up on the third. Uh. And she knows
- 2:03Speaker 1: him as a former director of the Maryland State Muffun Chapter.
- 2:08Speaker 3: M What is Muffun? Anybody know?
- 2:11Speaker 5: I had that up on my screen. I did look
- 2:13Speaker 5: that up in advance because you can find it keep
- 2:15Speaker 5: going often Mutual UFO Network.
- 2:20Speaker 6: Wow, all right, Oh well, okay, two UFO and UAP
- 2:25Speaker 6: is Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Okay, all right, Well sounds like kind of cool. I
- 2:33Speaker 1: really wanted to get her on the show, but just
- 2:35Speaker 1: doesn't look like we were able to do that. Either way,
- 2:37Speaker 1: we got us. So how's everybody doing?
- 2:40Speaker 5: I like my flying sauces in purple?
- 2:43Speaker 1: And all right, here's here's here's the go around here
- 2:47Speaker 1: it is, has anybody experienced a unidentified flying object?
- 2:52Speaker 7: Well, I tell.
- 2:53Speaker 4: You what this one time he's up by the park.
- 2:59Speaker 4: I saw this and they took me. Man, they took me,
- 3:01Speaker 4: I swear.
- 3:02Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, don't ask any new questions.
- 3:07Speaker 7: You don't want to know what they did to me
- 3:08Speaker 7: up there.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Was it bad?
- 3:10Speaker 7: It was bad? Yeah, I don't want to talk about it.
- 3:12Speaker 6: Did you like it?
- 3:14Speaker 7: No?
- 3:16Speaker 5: Well that's a good answer.
- 3:17Speaker 7: Okay, this show is getting off to a weird start.
- 3:20Speaker 1: It really is really bizarre. Uh sho, sean your way
- 3:23Speaker 1: out there.
- 3:24Speaker 8: And uh, I can't say that I have. I mean,
- 3:27Speaker 8: I've seen a lot of weird stuff in the sky,
- 3:30Speaker 8: try and chasing the door of the lights in the
- 3:33Speaker 8: space station, but it's usually something that can be explained
- 3:36Speaker 8: or tracked, like a plane or space debris or satellites
- 3:40Speaker 8: or whatever. But yeah, nothing, nothing in the extraterrestrial category.
- 3:47Speaker 7: Anyways.
- 3:47Speaker 1: You know, I kind of want did people talk about
- 3:49Speaker 1: UFOs before Close Encounters of the Third Kind? You know,
- 3:54Speaker 1: before the movie came out.
- 3:55Speaker 8: I mean, you have to define UFOs, right, because it's
- 3:58Speaker 8: like historic There is documentation of tribes and Indians with
- 4:06Speaker 8: just the depictions of stuff in the sky, right, So
- 4:10Speaker 8: what is that to them?
- 4:11Speaker 9: That's in a UFO?
- 4:12Speaker 5: Right.
- 4:13Speaker 8: So I'm sure that over the years things have evolved
- 4:19Speaker 8: and you get those legends that turn into myths and
- 4:22Speaker 8: things like that, Right, So they kind of get passed
- 4:25Speaker 8: down over the years and turn into you know, stuff
- 4:30Speaker 8: that spooks spooks people slick.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Well, have you ever experienced anything?
- 4:35Speaker 5: Well, I was gonna say, I'm here in the two
- 4:37Speaker 5: sumth metropolitan area. I'm going to assume that you and
- 4:40Speaker 5: Justin may have heard of some people saying, because I've
- 4:44Speaker 5: you know, I've heard it multiple times over many years.
- 4:47Speaker 5: There were three lights and they moved in a manner
- 4:52Speaker 5: that's unusual to you know, how airplanes fly. And there
- 4:57Speaker 5: was a time I was staying far west of let say, Tucson,
- 5:00Speaker 5: to be on the mountain over there and right yeah,
- 5:05Speaker 5: picture yeah, and off in the distance I'm gonna say southwest,
- 5:11Speaker 5: there seemed to be some aerial vehicles. You know, I
- 5:15Speaker 5: won't say three lights, but yeah, it could have been
- 5:17Speaker 5: three lights that seemed to be moving in a way
- 5:21Speaker 5: I can't explain. You know, I'm not going to say
- 5:23Speaker 5: I ever saw UFO, but because I remember somebody going, hey,
- 5:26Speaker 5: come take a look, and I'm like, well, okay, but
- 5:28Speaker 5: I'm just not sure. Have you not heard those stories,
- 5:31Speaker 5: cause it's been you know, a lot of people around
- 5:34Speaker 5: here have told it for many.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Many I remember about ten years ago driving on the
- 5:38Speaker 1: ten heading to California for a trip to visit the family,
- 5:42Speaker 1: and it was over i would say, between Phoenix and Tucson,
- 5:47Speaker 1: just a string of lights. And you know, now people
- 5:50Speaker 1: say the string of lights and right away people say, oh,
- 5:52Speaker 1: that's that's Starlink. You know, that's the Starlink satellites, and
- 5:57Speaker 1: that's how it's But ten years ago they weren't doing that,
- 6:01Speaker 1: and I remember seeing them and I've thought, what the
- 6:02Speaker 1: heck is that? And it was just like in a row.
- 6:05Speaker 1: But then again, I guess it could have been satellites
- 6:08Speaker 1: were up ten years ago, so it's very possible.
- 6:10Speaker 7: I've never personally had an experience.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Even up in Colorado.
- 6:14Speaker 7: Nope, no, no, I can't say I have.
- 6:16Speaker 8: I will say though, that in my amateur radio days,
- 6:20Speaker 8: right the stuff that I didn't hand radio. It's fun
- 6:22Speaker 8: to tune in and listen to stuff that you don't
- 6:25Speaker 8: necessarily know what it is, right, It's usually just garbled,
- 6:29Speaker 8: but it sounds cool. So you could count that as
- 6:32Speaker 8: I've probably heard alien stuff. But who here remembers doing
- 6:36Speaker 8: SETI at home?
- 6:38Speaker 3: Oh? Yeah, SETI.
- 6:39Speaker 1: SETI was the search for Extraterrestrial intelligence, right, correct?
- 6:44Speaker 8: Yeah, So one of my mentors who just recently passed away,
- 6:48Speaker 8: got me into SETI when I worked at Fox, So
- 6:50Speaker 8: this would have been back in twenty ten, and I
- 6:54Speaker 8: had it on any computer that I owned, and it
- 6:56Speaker 8: was running twenty four to seven until they shut it down,
- 6:58Speaker 8: probably four or five years ago. And it was just
- 7:01Speaker 8: cool to watch, right, And who knows what they did
- 7:03Speaker 8: with the data. It got sent to Berkeley and they
- 7:06Speaker 8: analyzed it. But what did that mean?
- 7:08Speaker 5: Right?
- 7:08Speaker 8: So maybe one day I'll get an email saying, hey,
- 7:11Speaker 8: this piece of information that your CPU calculated was alien
- 7:18Speaker 8: technology or something.
- 7:20Speaker 9: That's what I'm hoping for.
- 7:21Speaker 5: Help me out. It said it, because I remember hearing
- 7:23Speaker 5: about it, and it was to me it was you
- 7:26Speaker 5: installed a bunch of people installed software on the computer
- 7:30Speaker 5: to assist with processing and searching of something.
- 7:33Speaker 8: So basically think of it like crypto mining data data
- 7:38Speaker 8: from Berkeley off of satellites and radio telescopes, Like they
- 7:43Speaker 8: was just a peer to peer data exchange. Your CPU
- 7:48Speaker 8: was processing raw like data from satellites and the gigahertz
- 7:53Speaker 8: spectrums and very I mean you could kind of watch it. It
- 7:56Speaker 8: would tell you what chunks you were you were scanning,
- 7:59Speaker 8: so it would tell you like, you're on this array
- 8:01Speaker 8: and it's scanning in the twenty three gigaheard spectrum, and
- 8:04Speaker 8: it would just tell you was scanning that.
- 8:05Speaker 4: So yeah, and it's just there was just I mean,
- 8:07Speaker 4: with all the different radio telescopes arrays out there, there's
- 8:11Speaker 4: just so much data that we're pulling down. There was
- 8:13Speaker 4: no way they would ever be able to do it themselves,
- 8:15Speaker 4: even with a supercomputer. So that's why they created this
- 8:18Speaker 4: happens And it was one of the forgive me if
- 8:21Speaker 4: I'm wrong, but I think it was one of the first,
- 8:22Speaker 4: if not the first, like distributed cloud computing.
- 8:27Speaker 9: I would agree with that.
- 8:29Speaker 8: Yeah, And it was very popular in the in the
- 8:31Speaker 8: nerd community, and it was kind of fun to compete
- 8:34Speaker 8: with your friends and say, hey, I've got this many
- 8:37Speaker 8: chunks decoded.
- 8:38Speaker 9: Or whatever whatever. It was you have this many points
- 8:40Speaker 9: and it got people in trouble.
- 8:43Speaker 8: So this was before crypto, right, right, So you had
- 8:46Speaker 8: people installing them on work servers and things like that.
- 8:49Speaker 8: I actually got in trouble for putting it on some
- 8:52Speaker 8: computers at work that had higher processing power at the time.
- 8:56Speaker 9: And was using the you know, the company's power on
- 8:59Speaker 9: the internet.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:00Speaker 9: So it just was because you could get a higher
- 9:02Speaker 9: score than your friends.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Isn't it a shame that you got in trouble for
- 9:07Speaker 1: doing that? Not mining crypto?
- 9:09Speaker 9: It was it, I know, I mean I knew better
- 9:12Speaker 9: than that with crypto.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Well that's the thing you mentioned using the you know
- 9:15Speaker 4: company's internet or whatever. Honestly, it really didn't require hardly
- 9:18Speaker 4: any internet because it would just go online. It would
- 9:21Speaker 4: download a chunk of data and then it would sit
- 9:23Speaker 4: there and chew on that data for hours and hours
- 9:25Speaker 4: and hours and hours, and then once it had its results,
- 9:27Speaker 4: then it would just upload that back to the to
- 9:30Speaker 4: Berkeley and then it would download a new set of data.
- 9:32Speaker 4: So it's not like you had to be connected to
- 9:34Speaker 4: the Internet at all times.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Wow, So you were actually helping the government and doing
- 9:38Speaker 1: the research through different parts of the world.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Wherever you were, and however you were able to connect.
- 9:43Speaker 5: Yep.
- 9:44Speaker 8: Yeah, so like the SETI is still exists, right, so
- 9:47Speaker 8: that that part didn't go away. It's just this part
- 9:50Speaker 8: of it the funding ran out or whatever, so you
- 9:52Speaker 8: can still go check out and do SETI and all
- 9:56Speaker 8: that stuff. And there's actually another program that kind of
- 9:59Speaker 8: an offshoot event called HARP. It's I don't remember what
- 10:03Speaker 8: the acronym stands for, but it's another high frequency radio
- 10:07Speaker 8: project that uses your CPU power GP power to scan.
- 10:11Speaker 6: High frequency active oral research program. They actually did something
- 10:20Speaker 6: similar in order Lands three. When you got to a
- 10:26Speaker 6: certain town in the game, they actually in game they
- 10:29Speaker 6: had what looked like the standard arcade machine and they
- 10:32Speaker 6: told you when you started playing this game in a game,
- 10:35Speaker 6: they were like, hey, just to let you know, this
- 10:37Speaker 6: is not just a game. You are researching folded proteins, yes,
- 10:42Speaker 6: and the work that you're doing here. So now any
- 10:45Speaker 6: gamer that played Borderlands three, and even if they only
- 10:48Speaker 6: played that for like two minutes, they're now listed on
- 10:51Speaker 6: a research paper because enough people played and did that
- 10:55Speaker 6: that they actually managed to get the answers that they
- 10:58Speaker 6: were looking for. Doing all the simulated protein holding and
- 11:02Speaker 6: things like that. I'm like, you, guys, all you have
- 11:06Speaker 6: to do is tap into the competitive nature of gamers,
- 11:10Speaker 6: Like that's all you have to do, Like as Sean
- 11:13Speaker 6: put it out, like, you know, coming in being like, yeah,
- 11:15Speaker 6: I bet that really awesome new PC. These are a
- 11:18Speaker 6: number of pieces I've gotten decoded. How about you there, Johnny,
- 11:21Speaker 6: And Johnny's like, well, dang it, I gotta go get
- 11:23Speaker 6: a new processor and catch up. Like just tap into
- 11:28Speaker 6: that competitive nature and yeah, well we'll get it taken
- 11:30Speaker 6: care for you.
- 11:31Speaker 1: You know, kind of wonder with the technology that we
- 11:33Speaker 1: have and the satellites that I've been put up, do
- 11:37Speaker 1: you think that that's going to help in community, either
- 11:40Speaker 1: communication or actually justifying that there could be intelligent life
- 11:46Speaker 1: out there as an alternate world.
- 11:50Speaker 6: There's a couple of theories as to why we haven't
- 11:56Speaker 6: or you know, if we have, why we haven't had
- 11:58Speaker 6: sustained communication with any form of extraterrestrial the couple of
- 12:03Speaker 6: different theories. There's one that is the young universe theory,
- 12:07Speaker 6: which the Milky Way is relatively a young galaxy in
- 12:13Speaker 6: terms of the age of our universe. You know, we
- 12:17Speaker 6: are we are still kind of at the at the
- 12:20Speaker 6: early lengths of how long this place is gonna last.
- 12:23Speaker 6: So it could just be through some works and flukes.
- 12:27Speaker 6: We have just showed up first, and other biological life
- 12:33Speaker 6: forms are still evolving, still catching up. There's also the
- 12:37Speaker 6: Great Barrier theory, which is as civilization becomes sufficiently technologically advanced,
- 12:44Speaker 6: they have to try and pass through what they refer
- 12:46Speaker 6: to as the Great Barrier and survive and move on
- 12:49Speaker 6: towards interstellar explorations. The great barriers basically, you discover the
- 12:54Speaker 6: power of the atom, don't kill yourselves with it, don't
- 12:57Speaker 6: nuclear planet, and so far known as the that and
- 13:01Speaker 6: we're walking down the way to being like time for
- 13:04Speaker 6: that test of the Great barrier that we are. We're
- 13:06Speaker 6: gonna take an l on that one.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Wow.
- 13:09Speaker 6: And the scariest one for me is the great silence,
- 13:13Speaker 6: which is there are tons of other species out there,
- 13:17Speaker 6: and right now we're basically doing the equivalent of like
- 13:20Speaker 6: taking a megaphone and screaming into like downtown.
- 13:25Speaker 10: I'm from Earth and my name is Bob. Here's my address,
- 13:30Speaker 10: here's the code to my front door. Here's how you
- 13:33Speaker 10: find me in the neighborhood.
- 13:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:36Speaker 6: Yeah, we are telling everyone exactly how to find this,
- 13:38Speaker 6: But the great silence theory is that all these other
- 13:41Speaker 6: life forms that are out there, like there is one
- 13:44Speaker 6: super predator species and everyone is like, dude, shut up,
- 13:49Speaker 6: he is going to find you like you are telling
- 13:52Speaker 6: him how to get in the shut up. It's gonna
- 13:55Speaker 6: show up in your planet's gonna get turned into a marble,
- 13:58Speaker 6: all right, marvel.
- 14:00Speaker 1: When it comes to when it comes to movies, think
- 14:02Speaker 1: about it. I mentioned Close Encounters of the Third Kind,
- 14:05Speaker 1: which is a great movie. I mean even I think
- 14:07Speaker 1: it still holds up today pretty much. I mean, the
- 14:10Speaker 1: visual effects were outstanding, so it didn't you know, crack
- 14:14Speaker 1: that that belief that something really wasn't happening. You had
- 14:19Speaker 1: this amazing photography and then you had that great score.
- 14:23Speaker 1: But you have the great characters, Richard Dreyfus, Melinda Dillon,
- 14:28Speaker 1: the people they ran into that also believed in UFOs
- 14:32Speaker 1: And then you know, is it a government conspiracy and
- 14:36Speaker 1: just just a great movie?
- 14:37Speaker 3: Again, I think it just it stands up today.
- 14:40Speaker 1: But is there another movie that we're missing that maybe
- 14:43Speaker 1: best highlights the search for extraterrestrial intelligence that maybe we're
- 14:48Speaker 1: not even thinking about. I mean, Interstellar was that would
- 14:51Speaker 1: that be close to it or Fire in the Sky,
- 14:55Speaker 1: which a lot of people said that that was, and
- 14:57Speaker 1: that was based on a story here in Arizona. I mean,
- 15:00Speaker 1: I don't know if you guys remember that one came
- 15:01Speaker 1: out in nineteen ninety three, and again it was based
- 15:05Speaker 1: on a true story. James Garner I think was in
- 15:09Speaker 1: the movie, and it took place in the White Mountains
- 15:13Speaker 1: up near a globe, Arizona.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Just a pretty pretty.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Scary, pretty freaky movie about an actual you know, alien abduction.
- 15:21Speaker 1: If you want to see the movie, it's streaming on
- 15:24Speaker 1: Pluto TV, which is that free service again, Pluto TV.
- 15:27Speaker 3: You can check it out there. I know, Slick. What
- 15:29Speaker 3: are your thoughts?
- 15:30Speaker 5: Justin just said I was thinking about the same thing
- 15:32Speaker 5: with methemal sale Meg. It only takes one borg, just one.
- 15:37Speaker 7: Just the one. What about what about the movie Contact.
- 15:40Speaker 6: With Yeah, no, that that is another good one.
- 15:44Speaker 4: And what's the other one that just came out recently
- 15:46Speaker 4: with Amy Adams or whatever? It was this kind of
- 15:48Speaker 4: the same style of contact. It was people said it
- 15:51Speaker 4: was very similar to that Arrival.
- 15:53Speaker 7: Yes, yeah, I'll hear the thing.
- 15:55Speaker 4: But here's my I wanted to mention this my favorite
- 15:58Speaker 4: theory on one on all this is. You know, obviously
- 16:01Speaker 4: technology has increased and we start to see more and
- 16:04Speaker 4: more of these quote unquote sightings of of UFOs or
- 16:09Speaker 4: potential aliens. I think my favorite theory is all of
- 16:13Speaker 4: these other alien species out there are they're just funneling
- 16:16Speaker 4: into the arena and getting their front row seats because
- 16:19Speaker 4: we're about to blow ourselves up and they just want
- 16:21Speaker 4: to get the best view possible.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Weren't you cheery?
- 16:25Speaker 6: I mean, I agree with them. I'm sorry. And there's
- 16:30Speaker 6: the the one of the other things. Two things one
- 16:34Speaker 6: looping backs. When we were talking about the movies, I'm
- 16:36Speaker 6: gonna go a real old school I'm gonna go for
- 16:40Speaker 6: the nineteen fifty one version the Day of the Earth
- 16:42Speaker 6: stood Still?
- 16:43Speaker 3: Oh yeah are oh yeah?
- 16:46Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 16:46Speaker 3: Not the Keanu Reeves one, you know.
- 16:49Speaker 6: The OG nineteen fifty one, the original version of the
- 16:54Speaker 6: Day the Earth stood Still where we had somebody land
- 16:56Speaker 6: and they're like, we're here to help kind of because
- 17:02Speaker 6: you guys are screwed. Man, Wait, what was it?
- 17:04Speaker 3: What was the other one? There was a movie with
- 17:07Speaker 3: a dog, do you remember?
- 17:08Speaker 1: The dog was walking around with a human head, and
- 17:11Speaker 1: that's when they said, okay, there's something wrong here. Uh,
- 17:14Speaker 1: Pierce Brosnan was in it. It was a huge mass attacks,
- 17:18Speaker 1: Mars attacks.
- 17:19Speaker 5: That's the one.
- 17:21Speaker 11: Jack Nicholson playing like eighteen different roles in that movie.
- 17:27Speaker 11: I remember watching that in high school and we we
- 17:30Speaker 11: I was in Navy j R.
- 17:32Speaker 6: O TC in high school was the elective I basically
- 17:35Speaker 6: lived in and we just like we had to pause
- 17:37Speaker 6: the movie and stop when we saw Jack Nicholson's uh,
- 17:41Speaker 6: his his army jacket when he was one of his
- 17:44Speaker 6: general characters. Because there's there's a rule that they're always
- 17:47Speaker 6: in Hollywood, if you're doing if you're portraying somebody in
- 17:50Speaker 6: a military uniform, there always has to be something wrong.
- 17:53Speaker 6: You not be a true, entirely accurate uniform. There always
- 17:57Speaker 6: has to be something wrong so that people can't just
- 18:00Speaker 6: be like, oh, you wear that and I can walk
- 18:02Speaker 6: on base. He his army jacket had the same ribbons
- 18:07Speaker 6: that my Cadet j R. O T C uniform had
- 18:10Speaker 6: on because they use Navy Junior R O T C
- 18:13Speaker 6: ribbons relative Like, wait a minute, that looks like a
- 18:15Speaker 6: participation ribbon he generates. Look, there's the unit citation ribbon.
- 18:21Speaker 6: I got that online like funny.
- 18:23Speaker 5: Mean, as you mentioned that because I got in trouble
- 18:24Speaker 5: for wearing a general steps like Big Time used to
- 18:28Speaker 5: work on the basis, Yes, yeah, I lived on a
- 18:31Speaker 5: military installation. I'm a military brat and I was wearing
- 18:35Speaker 5: it because I got it in the second hand store
- 18:37Speaker 5: and got I got my got my sponsor, I got
- 18:40Speaker 5: my second step father. Big trouble because I refused to
- 18:42Speaker 5: take it off. It's like, well, you can take off
- 18:44Speaker 5: the hat and we can take off your stripes, all right.
- 18:47Speaker 1: So if if you want to attend this event, uh,
- 18:52Speaker 1: Louis Celizan though the author of this book, he looks
- 18:55Speaker 1: pretty serious, looks like a very serious guy, h imminent
- 18:59Speaker 1: inside the Pentagon's hunt for UFOs. It's going to be
- 19:01Speaker 1: at the rialto Theater tomorrow as a matter of fact,
- 19:05Speaker 1: so you can get more information about that if you
- 19:08Speaker 1: want to check out the show. The doors will open
- 19:10Speaker 1: at seven pm. Tickets are twenty bucks up to sixty
- 19:15Speaker 1: dollars depending where you're going to be seating. It's reserve
- 19:17Speaker 1: seating all ages six and over. And again, the door's
- 19:22Speaker 1: open at seven The show will start at eight pm.
- 19:25Speaker 1: And again, the guy's former ahead of the Pentagon's UFO
- 19:28Speaker 1: investigation unit and it should be a really interesting discussion,
- 19:33Speaker 1: especially if you like extraterrestrial science. You know, we're gonna
- 19:36Speaker 1: have a serious talk about UFOs.
- 19:38Speaker 3: I honestly enjoyed it. I thought that was pretty good.
- 19:43Speaker 5: All right, we don't forget about served man. By the way, guys,
- 19:45Speaker 5: that's to one the other morning when I think.
- 19:47Speaker 1: That's the Twilight the Twilight Zone episode. Do you all
- 19:51Speaker 1: remember that one?
- 19:53Speaker 5: Yeah? Oh, just okay, you've got Justin. You had one
- 19:56Speaker 5: episode Justin. I can't tell you, but you got a watch?
- 19:59Speaker 3: Oh you have it? Seen it?
- 20:01Speaker 5: Justin?
- 20:01Speaker 4: It's really into the I'm not in a Twilight Zone
- 20:03Speaker 4: or Black Mirror or anything like that.
- 20:05Speaker 3: Oh, I love Black Black Mirror was great too.
- 20:10Speaker 1: I'm waiting for him Charlie Booker to put out a
- 20:13Speaker 1: brand new season of that.
- 20:14Speaker 3: Sean, did you see any of those?
- 20:15Speaker 5: No, why don't you two get together like this weekend?
- 20:23Speaker 6: How are we gonna do this viewing party?
- 20:25Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 20:26Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, I'll tell you what. We'll take a break,
- 20:29Speaker 1: we come back. We're we've got a guess that I
- 20:31Speaker 1: do believe we're gonna have on the show. So again, uh,
- 20:34Speaker 1: talking about a camera they've developed. He's been on the
- 20:36Speaker 1: show before, So that'll be good. I know that'll be
- 20:38Speaker 1: a lot of fun. And with both Sean and Justin,
- 20:42Speaker 1: you know, with the broadcasting background, it should be interesting
- 20:44Speaker 1: to see what he's gonna tell us about this brand
- 20:46Speaker 1: new camera.
- 20:47Speaker 6: I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean dea Weird, I'm Slick, I'm
- 20:51Speaker 6: Matt Jones, and I'm Justin.
- 20:53Speaker 4: Let me find us on the web at tech talk
- 20:55Speaker 4: radio dot com. We'll be right back and now fact
- 20:59Speaker 4: to tech Radio.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Some months ago, we were blessed to have Richard Newman
- 21:07Speaker 1: from sub to R on the show and sub to
- 21:10Speaker 1: are at the time it's put out this amazing green
- 21:13Speaker 1: screen that kind of changed the whole process. And you
- 21:16Speaker 1: may have seen the interview. It's available up on our
- 21:18Speaker 1: website at tech talk radio dot com.
- 21:20Speaker 3: But Richard had kind.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Of teased a little bit that they were working on
- 21:24Speaker 1: a brand new camera design. When somebody tells you that,
- 21:29Speaker 1: you say, well, wait, you've got so many cameras out
- 21:31Speaker 1: there on the market, how is yours going to be different? Well,
- 21:35Speaker 1: when we all got a chance to see Richard pop
- 21:39Speaker 1: into our screen here and the quality of the camera,
- 21:42Speaker 1: we all kind of stepped back a little and said Wow,
- 21:46Speaker 1: it's what they have developed at sub to Are and
- 21:49Speaker 1: we're happy to have Richard Duman on the show again.
- 21:51Speaker 3: Richard, it's good to talk to you.
- 21:52Speaker 12: Thank you for having me back. I really love being here,
- 21:55Speaker 12: so it's great. And of course you're just gonna have
- 21:58Speaker 12: to hit mute and kick me off. I'm going to
- 22:00Speaker 12: blather about our camera like crazy.
- 22:03Speaker 1: So well, you know, the camera is neat because it
- 22:06Speaker 1: speaks for itself. I mean, we look at the quality
- 22:09Speaker 1: that we're getting off the camera.
- 22:11Speaker 3: It's it's pretty amazing.
- 22:12Speaker 12: It really is what we've set out to build from
- 22:16Speaker 12: day one, which which is to give people a professional
- 22:20Speaker 12: broadcast quality but with the ease of use of a webcam.
- 22:27Speaker 5: And we do not.
- 22:27Speaker 12: I think we called a webcam because we're not. I mean,
- 22:30Speaker 12: that gives people the idea that you know, we're fifty
- 22:34Speaker 12: two teeny tiny sensor, right, you know, we're not. We
- 22:39Speaker 12: built this camera using a Sony iMX two ninety four
- 22:43Speaker 12: image sensor, which is a micro four third censor for
- 22:46Speaker 12: you guys and broadcast, you know that they're much bigger sensor,
- 22:50Speaker 12: not quite cinematic yet, but for what we're doing, it's
- 22:53Speaker 12: amazingly huge. It's like sixteen times bigger than what you
- 22:56Speaker 12: find anywhere else. Allows us to use micro four thirds glass,
- 23:00Speaker 12: which I should hold it up. This is this is
- 23:02Speaker 12: all the bigger it is.
- 23:03Speaker 7: Oh wow, not big at.
- 23:04Speaker 12: All now, little teeny tiny guy.
- 23:07Speaker 4: Is it front heavy with that lens on it? Or
- 23:09Speaker 4: does it have like a mounting bracket to hold it
- 23:11Speaker 4: onto a mount?
- 23:13Speaker 12: Thank you for asking that question. It's got two quarter
- 23:17Speaker 12: twenties on the bottom which allow you to adjust the
- 23:21Speaker 12: center of gravity depending upon how heavy a lens you
- 23:23Speaker 12: put on, because some glasses really heavy, some is really light,
- 23:27Speaker 12: so you have a chance to adjust the balance. We
- 23:31Speaker 12: have three of those on the top so you can
- 23:35Speaker 12: also hang it from above. We also have rack mount groups.
- 23:40Speaker 12: Can't see them too well, but you've got rock mount
- 23:42Speaker 12: groups on the side, and you have rock mount groups
- 23:45Speaker 12: on the bottom, which means that you can hang this
- 23:49Speaker 12: thing and mount this thing from a gazillion different directions.
- 23:52Speaker 3: In developing this camera, Richard, you're obviously we're looking for
- 23:56Speaker 3: a solution for maybe a something that you had not
- 23:59Speaker 3: seen in them market. What was that?
- 24:01Speaker 12: What we started out with, you know, building a camera
- 24:04Speaker 12: for Twitch and what we saw is when people got
- 24:07Speaker 12: tired of a webcam. The next thing they did is
- 24:11Speaker 12: they moved up to a DSLRYE. And DSLRs are complicated,
- 24:17Speaker 12: they're cumbersome to set up, they're expensive by the time
- 24:21Speaker 12: you get all the fake batteries and all the other
- 24:24Speaker 12: stuff you have to do, and they're really not easy
- 24:26Speaker 12: to use. I'll be honest. I got a DSLR that
- 24:29Speaker 12: we use for, you know, behind the sceneshoots, and the
- 24:33Speaker 12: first thing I do is put it on auto because
- 24:36Speaker 12: I will never learn all of the commands in there, right,
- 24:41Speaker 12: And we realize that that's kind of who our audience is.
- 24:44Speaker 12: I mean, you really don't want to become an expert
- 24:48Speaker 12: camera person. That takes years of study and and a
- 24:52Speaker 12: lot of knowledge. So the thing that makes webcam great
- 24:55Speaker 12: is that you know, you plug it any turn on works,
- 24:58Speaker 12: but the quality you'll never get there with the teeny
- 25:02Speaker 12: tiny sensors that they use. So we set out to
- 25:06Speaker 12: build a camera that was based on larger format image sensor,
- 25:11Speaker 12: larger format glass and then make that as easy to
- 25:16Speaker 12: use as a webcam, and then keep the price down
- 25:19Speaker 12: to where it's reasonable and it's comparable. And we went
- 25:21Speaker 12: with micro four thirds because when you move up to
- 25:25Speaker 12: a DSLR, you find that if you have a Sony
- 25:29Speaker 12: camera or a canon Ae camera, only canon Ae lenses
- 25:35Speaker 12: will work on it. And you can get lens of
- 25:37Speaker 12: adapters in some work and some don't. But yeah, that's
- 25:40Speaker 12: the problem. So the idea was Golden micro four thirds
- 25:44Speaker 12: because micro four thirds is an industry standard. And while
- 25:47Speaker 12: I will tell you that anything universal is not universal,
- 25:52Speaker 12: it realized as it supports. We learn the hard way,
- 25:55Speaker 12: but we support the basic power functions of micro four
- 25:58Speaker 12: thirds lenses and this gives the end user the opportunity
- 26:03Speaker 12: to select from a massive amount of glass that's out
- 26:07Speaker 12: there and a really reasonable price. The lenses are interchangeable.
- 26:11Speaker 12: That's the point we wanted to get to. The other
- 26:14Speaker 12: thing we want We learned is that people need power lenses.
- 26:19Speaker 12: They need power focus, they need power aperture. Our original
- 26:22Speaker 12: camera that came out was a manual focus and if
- 26:25Speaker 12: the camera is too far away, they can't reach the
- 26:27Speaker 12: lens to focus.
- 26:28Speaker 4: That.
- 26:28Speaker 12: Going with microphort, the it's allows you to have on
- 26:31Speaker 12: desktop control of focus and zoom and aperture. But now
- 26:35Speaker 12: the fund begins because on the output side, so this
- 26:40Speaker 12: is a this is a development camera, and what you'll
- 26:43Speaker 12: see is you've got an HDMI output here, you have
- 26:47Speaker 12: a USB going to get it right, Yes, you have
- 26:49Speaker 12: USB output. We actually have video out over USB. We
- 26:52Speaker 12: have dual on the studio four sixty. We have dual
- 26:56Speaker 12: twelve gig SDI outputs. Plus we have a gen lock input,
- 27:00Speaker 12: so if you're doing multiple cameras, you can genlock them.
- 27:03Speaker 12: And then this sweet little thing, this is called an
- 27:06Speaker 12: SFP plus cage, and the SFP plus cage allows you
- 27:11Speaker 12: to buy little off the shelf modules I see Matt
- 27:15Speaker 12: nodding his head, and convert the video output in absolutely
- 27:19Speaker 12: anything you want that's off the shelf. So if you
- 27:22Speaker 12: wanted this to be optical output and have a forty
- 27:25Speaker 12: kilometer range on it, you can get you can get
- 27:28Speaker 12: a module that slides in the back. If you have
- 27:31Speaker 12: a square one that has HDMI and you go, I
- 27:34Speaker 12: really want upgrade SDI, you can buy an SDI, can
- 27:37Speaker 12: vert or vice versa. That's really the advantage of these
- 27:42Speaker 12: SFP cages. You can ndi IP. That's what I think
- 27:46Speaker 12: is a really cool feature about the camera is that
- 27:48Speaker 12: you're not stuck with a video output and all of
- 27:50Speaker 12: our outputs are depending upon the video format is a
- 27:55Speaker 12: four K sixty output camera is a native twelve bit
- 27:59Speaker 12: color depthning find your outpuit it usually drops to ten,
- 28:02Speaker 12: but inside all of our processing is done. It's all
- 28:04Speaker 12: the color. The other thing that's important for broadcasters is
- 28:08Speaker 12: that we have virtually no latency. The most you will
- 28:12Speaker 12: be is one frame behind reality or sixteen milliseconds.
- 28:15Speaker 4: So does the processing happen on board or does it
- 28:19Speaker 4: utilize the computer that it's connected to to process.
- 28:22Speaker 12: No, all the all the processes happen on board. We
- 28:25Speaker 12: run at This is an FPG eight that based camera.
- 28:28Speaker 12: There's no ask on board, which means that all of
- 28:31Speaker 12: the video pipeline is software based, and so we can
- 28:38Speaker 12: you can upgrade it, you can modify it. Our dream
- 28:42Speaker 12: down the road is to make it modulars and you
- 28:44Speaker 12: actually have access to parts of the ip you know,
- 28:47Speaker 12: the image processing pipeline, and can make changes yourself. So
- 28:52Speaker 12: if you want to, for instance, adjust the color converter
- 28:57Speaker 12: at the end, if you want to add in you
- 29:02Speaker 12: know you don't like the way we do, demo's egg
- 29:04Speaker 12: and you can implement your own demos agging. Our goal
- 29:08Speaker 12: of this camera was to make it an open architecture,
- 29:11Speaker 12: not open source open architecture because we believe that building
- 29:16Speaker 12: a platform for people to innovate is where this is
- 29:20Speaker 12: going to be very powerful. I'm willing to bet we're
- 29:22Speaker 12: the only camera company in the world that if you
- 29:25Speaker 12: crack the case etched on our motherboard, it says, if
- 29:29Speaker 12: you've come this far, explore, innovate, and create, And we
- 29:34Speaker 12: actually give you places to hook into the major components
- 29:38Speaker 12: on the motherboard, and we give you the knowledge base
- 29:41Speaker 12: and the tools to play.
- 29:43Speaker 7: Oh wow.
- 29:43Speaker 12: We started out being R and D guys, right, you know,
- 29:47Speaker 12: engineers exploring and we needed to build a platform. So
- 29:49Speaker 12: this is basically a dead kit shoved in a box
- 29:52Speaker 12: to make it look like a beautiful camera. On the back,
- 29:54Speaker 12: there's a little bank of square connectors.
- 29:56Speaker 7: Yeah, I was wondered about that.
- 29:57Speaker 12: We offer a external ice wirt C comport. Ice wort
- 30:02Speaker 12: C is kind of a universal language that electronic components
- 30:06Speaker 12: talk to each other the very simple slow communication protocol.
- 30:10Speaker 12: We also have a PTO of power takeoff on the
- 30:12Speaker 12: back as well, five bolts, so it's available to drive
- 30:15Speaker 12: certain things. If you wanted to control, for instance, our
- 30:18Speaker 12: green screen, you don't have to have a separate control
- 30:24Speaker 12: panel for the green screen and for the camera camera
- 30:27Speaker 12: can control a green screen. Our goal again down the
- 30:30Speaker 12: road is it can also control the lights in the
- 30:34Speaker 12: It can also control a gimbal. It can also control
- 30:37Speaker 12: a cat feed. Or we don't care. That's the beauty
- 30:40Speaker 12: of I squirts see is it doesn't really care. You
- 30:43Speaker 12: just say this address is this device, here's the registers,
- 30:47Speaker 12: here's how you write to it, you know, and you
- 30:50Speaker 12: can send commands back and forth to the host command panel,
- 30:54Speaker 12: the control panel. You have one point of entry that
- 30:58Speaker 12: allows you to control what's going going on in the room.
- 31:01Speaker 12: And if you carry this to the extent that we
- 31:02Speaker 12: want to. You think of auto exposure. Auto exposure just
- 31:07Speaker 12: changes the aperture and the exposure on the camera itself,
- 31:12Speaker 12: but does nothing to the outside environment. What if auto
- 31:17Speaker 12: exposure could adjust your lights?
- 31:20Speaker 7: Oh wow, that's a good thought.
- 31:22Speaker 3: I like that.
- 31:23Speaker 12: Now when you talk about the single person's studio, which
- 31:26Speaker 12: is really where we're focusing, which is what everybody is
- 31:29Speaker 12: right here and now every one of us is a
- 31:31Speaker 12: single person's studio. We've designed this not just to be
- 31:34Speaker 12: a camera, but be the focal point of a single
- 31:37Speaker 12: person studio and make it easy to use.
- 31:40Speaker 1: What was that moment, like when you got it together
- 31:44Speaker 1: and you looked at it and you said, this is amazing,
- 31:48Speaker 1: Like we're looking at it, looking at the quality. And
- 31:51Speaker 1: for our listeners that are listening on the radio, if
- 31:52Speaker 1: you go to our website, you'd be able to see
- 31:54Speaker 1: the quality we're talking about.
- 31:55Speaker 12: You've been a long journey. We've been on this path
- 31:58Speaker 12: to twelve years. We can spend hours and probably shots
- 32:01Speaker 12: of tequila talking about all the disasters that we've faced,
- 32:07Speaker 12: from exploding motherboards to a vendor promising a forty dollars
- 32:11Speaker 12: part that ended up costing us almost thirteen hundred dollars.
- 32:15Speaker 12: You know, I mean it's just every mic dropping engineers,
- 32:18Speaker 12: I mean taking everything with them, everything you can imagine.
- 32:21Speaker 12: But this has always been our dream. And seeing the
- 32:24Speaker 12: video coming off of our camera was was that moment,
- 32:30Speaker 12: you know, and we said we did it. We pulled
- 32:32Speaker 12: it off. We did what we had set out to do,
- 32:35Speaker 12: which is not a simple task. And I remember us
- 32:39Speaker 12: sitting around going when we first thoughted this, going, how
- 32:41Speaker 12: are can you be to build a camera?
- 32:43Speaker 5: You know?
- 32:44Speaker 12: And we had you know, we had the pontificating trolls
- 32:47Speaker 12: and said, wow, you can build a camera. For forty
- 32:49Speaker 12: dollars in parts. What are you guys talking about? You
- 32:52Speaker 12: can if you slap a module on in our duino, maybe,
- 32:55Speaker 12: but if you really want to build a camera and
- 32:58Speaker 12: you start from the ground up, it is is not
- 33:01Speaker 12: an in significant task. I mean, the last statistic I
- 33:05Speaker 12: saw is Apple has eight hundred w two engineers doing
- 33:09Speaker 12: nothing but working on the camera for their I phone.
- 33:12Speaker 12: We laugh, We build our camera for what they spend
- 33:15Speaker 12: on coffee and bagels.
- 33:18Speaker 1: So the marketing that's got to be a chore as well,
- 33:21Speaker 1: because the next step is getting it into either retail
- 33:26Speaker 1: or getting it into the hands of the person that
- 33:29Speaker 1: wants to buy it. How will you do this? Is
- 33:32Speaker 1: it going to be through you.
- 33:33Speaker 3: Know, somebody goes to the website they could order it,
- 33:36Speaker 3: or will they.
- 33:36Speaker 1: Be able to walk into a high end camera store
- 33:40Speaker 1: or a best buy and be able to buy it?
- 33:42Speaker 7: So we're.
- 33:44Speaker 12: We found it with the green screen, and the green
- 33:47Speaker 12: screen was a great way of understanding our customer base.
- 33:52Speaker 12: It was it kind of a fun experiment. You know,
- 33:57Speaker 12: who's interested? Who's buying this thing? Wasn't people we thought
- 34:00Speaker 12: we're going to buy. What drives people to us to
- 34:04Speaker 12: buy that are experts in the field using it going wow,
- 34:09Speaker 12: this just was like, why didn't I think of this?
- 34:12Speaker 12: This is a mind blow. So our plan is to
- 34:15Speaker 12: build a small set of the cameras. We've got most
- 34:18Speaker 12: of the parts in stock right now, and to get
- 34:20Speaker 12: those in the hands of people who have two qualifications.
- 34:25Speaker 12: One they understand a camera, so they understand and can
- 34:29Speaker 12: talk about why this camera is different, why it's different
- 34:33Speaker 12: than a webcam, why it's different than a DSLR, why
- 34:38Speaker 12: it's the kind of camera if you are going to
- 34:40Speaker 12: elevate your strain you want. I mean, they just you know,
- 34:45Speaker 12: somebody who sells cosmetics is not our kind of influencer,
- 34:49Speaker 12: and not necessarily every gamer could be an influencer. We're
- 34:53Speaker 12: really looking for those people who understand and can convey
- 34:55Speaker 12: to their base what it is, and then some as
- 35:00Speaker 12: obviously people who have a respected following. Doesn't mean you
- 35:04Speaker 12: have a million people, but it means that people come
- 35:07Speaker 12: to you and seek advice. But honestly, we have a
- 35:10Speaker 12: larger challenge before we get to market, and what is
- 35:13Speaker 12: that up into the pandemic. We were founder funded, We
- 35:17Speaker 12: were self funded. It it was you know, I joke, but
- 35:21Speaker 12: slaughtered for o one case and liquidated savings in every
- 35:24Speaker 12: body part we could sell on craigs and this straight
- 35:27Speaker 12: we found a sole investor. I had four hundred and
- 35:30Speaker 12: fifty doors slammed in my face and found a sole
- 35:33Speaker 12: investor and absolutely look to be the perfect combination. I
- 35:37Speaker 12: love this guy, by the way, super nice guy. We
- 35:41Speaker 12: weren't even talking about investing. He said, Hey, just had
- 35:44Speaker 12: a curiosity. You guys looking and raise money? Yeah, said
- 35:48Speaker 12: how much? Throughout a number? He said, okay, And we
- 35:51Speaker 12: got half of it, which carried us through the pandemic
- 35:54Speaker 12: and got us to this camera. It got us the
- 35:56Speaker 12: green screens, it got us the mouse, it got the
- 36:00Speaker 12: glasses in production. I mean it was fabulous. And it
- 36:05Speaker 12: came time for the second half in their bankrupt oh man.
- 36:11Speaker 12: So that kind of was a shock to us because
- 36:16Speaker 12: we kept asking them and they said, oh, we won't
- 36:18Speaker 12: take carry no more. Don't worry about So we cut everything,
- 36:21Speaker 12: absolutely everything except the very essentials. It's down to the
- 36:25Speaker 12: four of us again in one engineer and the four
- 36:27Speaker 12: founders again, keeping it afloat as best we can while
- 36:32Speaker 12: we seek for a replacement. And that becomes the challenge
- 36:35Speaker 12: for us. The difference is we have a product that's amazing.
- 36:40Speaker 12: We're ready to go into production, and it's finding that
- 36:43Speaker 12: person that says or that investor that says, hey, I'm
- 36:46Speaker 12: willing to pick up the pieces and run with it.
- 36:49Speaker 12: That's a huge challenge for any startup. Hardware is tough.
- 36:53Speaker 12: Telling me build a camera. Nobody wants to talk to you.
- 36:56Speaker 12: But I only have two hundred more to go and
- 36:57Speaker 12: then I catch up with the last last numb which
- 36:59Speaker 12: I'm doing pretty good.
- 37:00Speaker 1: A man, So are you planning to go to CS
- 37:04Speaker 1: for twenty twenty five and obviously too, you know they
- 37:07Speaker 1: have the exhibitor showcase where people get out there and
- 37:11Speaker 1: they show they're good looking for investors.
- 37:14Speaker 12: So I'm wondering, Yeah, they have that, they have that
- 37:16Speaker 12: investor out I mean, you know, that's a good idea.
- 37:19Speaker 12: I wasn't thinking I'm going to see us. We uhould
- 37:21Speaker 12: get NAB right, just right, Yeah, because NAB is more.
- 37:25Speaker 3: Like that's the focus.
- 37:27Speaker 12: Yeah, but I should look into CEOs. I haven't been
- 37:29Speaker 12: to see us in a couple of years.
- 37:30Speaker 6: The other thing to think of, when you're talking about
- 37:32Speaker 6: trying to find potential investors, who had said, you know,
- 37:35Speaker 6: kind of the start that you were looking at creating
- 37:37Speaker 6: this for you know, looking at streamers and creating a
- 37:42Speaker 6: more professional feel for those streams. So you could also
- 37:46Speaker 6: look at going to something like Whitchcon. I mean, you
- 37:50Speaker 6: have big name streamers who have more money than frankly
- 37:54Speaker 6: any of us are ever going to see in our lifetime,
- 37:58Speaker 6: and it would I mean, uh, I off the top
- 38:02Speaker 6: of my head, there's uh, there's a guy he's now
- 38:07Speaker 6: what is it streamer sense say. I used to follow
- 38:12Speaker 6: him for your when I was starting out for all
- 38:13Speaker 6: my tips things like that. But you know there are
- 38:16Speaker 6: people like that who would happily slap their name to
- 38:19Speaker 6: be associated with something like that out the gate and
- 38:23Speaker 6: be like, oh you need X amount of dollars. Well, okay,
- 38:27Speaker 6: let me call my finance guy. But you know if
- 38:29Speaker 6: you also if you go to something like twitch Con,
- 38:31Speaker 6: then you're getting in front of all those people.
- 38:34Speaker 12: Yeah, and we usually we usually do twitch Con. We
- 38:37Speaker 12: did twitch Con last year. That was a blast. It
- 38:41Speaker 12: was in Las Vegas and and we had tons of fun.
- 38:45Speaker 12: And just the thing that that blew people away there
- 38:48Speaker 12: is when I put a battery pack on the green
- 38:50Speaker 12: screen and one of the guys picked up the green
- 38:53Speaker 12: screen walk walked down the alley aisle with it. Oh
- 38:55Speaker 12: oh my god. It just follows me wherever I go,
- 38:58Speaker 12: you know, And we had is on display there. It
- 39:03Speaker 12: was kind of a weird layout done and done Vegas before.
- 39:07Speaker 3: So well, I don't know.
- 39:09Speaker 1: I'm looking at this, Richard, and I'm just thinking, again,
- 39:11Speaker 1: I'm blown away by it. We talked about a little
- 39:14Speaker 1: bit about it last time we talked, and I know
- 39:17Speaker 1: that we'll talk again too. I am again excited about this.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Can people purchase this now?
- 39:24Speaker 3: Or is this? Is this going to be coming up?
- 39:27Speaker 12: So that will be coming up. What I do right
- 39:29Speaker 12: now is I'm taking reservations. They just go on our
- 39:31Speaker 12: website and you can reserve it. It's a no obligation reservation.
- 39:35Speaker 12: But what it does is it gives me a list.
- 39:36Speaker 12: And it's very important for us because when I sit
- 39:39Speaker 12: in front of an investor, I go, look, we're not
- 39:41Speaker 12: only promoting this, and I've got to listen. You know,
- 39:43Speaker 12: one hundred and two hundred people they're lying up ready
- 39:45Speaker 12: to buy this thing right now. And so that's kind
- 39:49Speaker 12: of the the approach we've taken. We're we're always very cautious.
- 39:55Speaker 12: It was an interesting group. We don't like it to go
- 39:57Speaker 12: out and antipicate, you know, in a marketing you know,
- 40:01Speaker 12: spew and then I'll produce anything. We're the other way around.
- 40:05Speaker 12: We want to have a finished product and say okay,
- 40:09Speaker 12: now we're ready to go. You know a lot of
- 40:11Speaker 12: people say, you know, when you take pre orders, I personally,
- 40:18Speaker 12: I don't want to do that till I know one
- 40:21Speaker 12: hundred percent I'm going to ship your product.
- 40:25Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, excitement.
- 40:28Speaker 7: There's been many people gotten words about that.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:31Speaker 12: Yeah. And it's just not where It's not how we work,
- 40:34Speaker 12: it's not how we want to build that reputation. I'd
- 40:39Speaker 12: rather have one that we waited and when we were
- 40:44Speaker 12: ready to sell. When you you know, when you commit,
- 40:48Speaker 12: I'm sending you a product.
- 40:50Speaker 8: So we do a lot of remote stuff at the university,
- 40:52Speaker 8: right we do. We have sports venues spread out on
- 40:55Speaker 8: all across campus. We use a lot of fiber. If
- 40:57Speaker 8: I connect to this via a pair of single mode fiber,
- 41:02Speaker 8: what is my connectivity to the device? Is it just
- 41:04Speaker 8: video coming back? How do I control remotely from the
- 41:08Speaker 8: user end?
- 41:09Speaker 12: Just on a pair of fiber, you can get video
- 41:11Speaker 12: and audio because the camera has dual onboard mics. Plus
- 41:15Speaker 12: it's got an audio jack in the back, so you
- 41:17Speaker 12: can essentially put a mic onto it if you wanted
- 41:20Speaker 12: to control is over USB. But what we've done is
- 41:27Speaker 12: we build a module that creates a mesh network, so
- 41:33Speaker 12: then the camera becomes part of its own network and
- 41:37Speaker 12: you can daisy chain these things together and so you
- 41:39Speaker 12: can control you know, one hundred cameras from a single location,
- 41:45Speaker 12: all over wireless mesh network and then you would just
- 41:49Speaker 12: be running cable. You just be running either fiber or
- 41:52Speaker 12: SDI back to wherever your editing station was.
- 41:58Speaker 3: It's great stuff, Richard, give us the website address.
- 42:00Speaker 1: Our listeners can get more about the green screen and
- 42:04Speaker 1: of course the cameras and you know, and getting on
- 42:07Speaker 1: this list because I might want to put my name
- 42:09Speaker 1: on that list as well, because this is great quality
- 42:12Speaker 1: and for broadcasts for on the list.
- 42:15Speaker 6: Did you yeah, just put my name on the list.
- 42:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 42:18Speaker 12: So it's it's it's www dot sub to our sub
- 42:23Speaker 12: the number two the letter R dot com. And then
- 42:26Speaker 12: you know, if anybody out there has questions, just info
- 42:30Speaker 12: at subto our dot com, drop me an email. I
- 42:33Speaker 12: respond as fast as possible and you will get a
- 42:35Speaker 12: response from me, not from an AI bought or some

- 42:43Speaker 3: You know it'll be me awesome.
- 42:45Speaker 1: Well, thank you so much for coming on tech talk Radio.
- 42:48Speaker 1: Great stuff and looking forward to seeing this continue to develop.
- 42:51Speaker 12: Thank you everyone for your hospitality and sing again soon.
- 42:56Speaker 1: Thank you so much, Richard are if we want to
- 42:58Speaker 1: remind everybody that you can find us on Facebook, Facebook

- 43:08Speaker 1: And then you know, if you have a question for
- 43:10Speaker 1: the show, we love the questions. Well we'll get to

- 43:26Speaker 3: And on YouTube we're also on there as well.
- 43:28Speaker 1: We feature our tech segments, but most everything goes through
- 43:31Speaker 1: our blog blog dot tech talk radio dot com. We
- 43:35Speaker 1: will take a quick break, come back with more of
- 43:37Speaker 1: tech talk Radio.
- 43:38Speaker 12: Now back to tech talk Radio.
- 43:40Speaker 3: Hi, I'm Rick Darringer Rock and Roll Uchi Ku, and
- 43:43Speaker 3: you're listening to tech talk Radio.
- 43:47Speaker 9: So during the break, I was just spewing information about
- 43:50Speaker 9: that camera.
- 43:50Speaker 3: Right we were talking about the camera.
- 43:52Speaker 9: Were talking about that all day long, but Andy told
- 43:53Speaker 9: me I how to wrap it up.
- 43:54Speaker 8: So back to So let's shift gears and talk about
- 43:58Speaker 8: drugs because everybody knows I love druns.
- 44:00Speaker 5: Yeah, there's been no update to.
- 44:02Speaker 8: The Anti Drone Act, right, We've talked about how there
- 44:06Speaker 8: was a bill in the House that got passed to
- 44:09Speaker 8: ban drones from China and specifically Dji. Well, we talked
- 44:14Speaker 8: two shows ago about their new drone, the Air three S.
- 44:18Speaker 8: The US Customs and Border Protection is currently blocking imports
- 44:21Speaker 8: of that dram.
- 44:22Speaker 7: Oh my god man.
- 44:23Speaker 8: They say the action stems from concerns about forced labor
- 44:26Speaker 8: practices and some other technology based concerns. Like I said,
- 44:31Speaker 8: I think Dji was cramming in as many new models
- 44:34Speaker 8: of drunes as humanly possible.
- 44:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:36Speaker 4: Probably at the cop that I can put my drone
- 44:39Speaker 4: that's almost brand new, I can put it up on
- 44:42Speaker 4: eBay for like a premium right now.
- 44:44Speaker 8: I bet once the if they passed the Anti Drone Act,
- 44:48Speaker 8: people are going to be flocking to places like eBay
- 44:52Speaker 8: and other third third party resellers to buy existing drones.
- 44:56Speaker 9: So hold on to them.
- 44:58Speaker 8: But if you can, if you can get the new
- 45:00Speaker 8: one's in great, but it'll be interesting to see how
- 45:02Speaker 8: the drone the drone market goes forward here.
- 45:04Speaker 1: They had told me at best Buy that because I
- 45:07Speaker 1: went in and I was like, where's their DJ They
- 45:09Speaker 1: used to have a display and it was gone and
- 45:12Speaker 1: I was like, where's your display? And I said, always
- 45:14Speaker 1: it in advance. He said no, no, we're just moving it.
- 45:18Speaker 1: And then the next time I had gone in, they
- 45:20Speaker 1: had put the display back up, but they had no
- 45:22Speaker 1: drones in there. Does that mean like Best Buy doesn't
- 45:25Speaker 1: even have them on the retail shelf.
- 45:27Speaker 9: Yeah, I don't know from what I could just quickly
- 45:29Speaker 9: google and find out.
- 45:31Speaker 8: I'll to do some research on it, but right now
- 45:32Speaker 8: it seems like they're not being allowed to import it
- 45:35Speaker 8: right now.
- 45:35Speaker 1: I wanted to talk about something I showed on television
- 45:38Speaker 1: on Fox eleven this past week.
- 45:40Speaker 3: But what it is.
- 45:41Speaker 1: You may have seen the commercials with Shaquille O'Neill and
- 45:44Speaker 1: his mom, Lucille, and they're talking about preserving Priceless Memories,
- 45:48Speaker 1: which is a great ad campaign. It's the EPSO in
- 45:51Speaker 1: Fast Photos six ' eighty w. This is a different
- 45:55Speaker 1: type of scanner, not a flatbet scanner. It looks like
- 45:58Speaker 1: a little printer and you just like you would feed
- 46:00Speaker 1: the paper, and you feed the photos in and coordinating
- 46:03Speaker 1: with your smartphone or your PC, you hit the scan
- 46:08Speaker 1: button and it's scans of photos about two seconds per photo.
- 46:12Speaker 7: Oh that's really fast.
- 46:13Speaker 3: Yeah, it's amazing.
- 46:15Speaker 1: So and you know, I've been playing around with the
- 46:18Speaker 1: YouTube and a snapchat and TikTok, and so I found oh,
- 46:24Speaker 1: I'll do a video on this one. And I did,
- 46:26Speaker 1: and Sean saw it, and unfortunately I cost Sean five
- 46:31Speaker 1: hundred bucks.
- 46:32Speaker 8: I haven't bought it yet because I have to talk
- 46:34Speaker 8: to Klan about it, right, But so you guys, I've
- 46:38Speaker 8: talked about this before. I did this massive photo and
- 46:42Speaker 8: video archive for my family, right all throughout COVID, you know,
- 46:46Speaker 8: twenty nineteen through COVID. And the one thing I was
- 46:49Speaker 8: struggling with, and the thing I haven't tackled yet, is
- 46:51Speaker 8: if I showed you the other side of my room,
- 46:53Speaker 8: the basement. Down here, I have a few cardboard beer
- 46:58Speaker 8: crates full of years and years and years and years
- 47:04Speaker 8: and decades worth of four by sixes, oh man, without
- 47:08Speaker 8: the negatives. So the negatives got destroyed, got lost, got
- 47:11Speaker 8: thrown away. So I just have the four by sixes.
- 47:14Speaker 8: Now it's a painstaking process. I have the absent V
- 47:17Speaker 8: six hundred, which is a fantastic scanner, right, but I
- 47:21Speaker 8: can only fit about four in there at a time,
- 47:23Speaker 8: and when I'm scanning at eight hundred tpi, it takes
- 47:27Speaker 8: four to five minutes per four and then I got
- 47:30Speaker 8: to open it and take them out. I get fingerprints
- 47:32Speaker 8: on the glass. Like it's it's a big pain.
- 47:35Speaker 9: Andy had sent me a one minute video of this
- 47:37Speaker 9: thing spitting out eight or nine pictures in about two minutes,
- 47:45Speaker 9: so that's I could just I could just stack them
- 47:48Speaker 9: in there and let it run. It's gonna go.
- 47:50Speaker 8: Like I was immediately said this, I have to have
- 47:52Speaker 8: this for this archive project I'm working on.
- 47:54Speaker 1: If you're doing them on the computer or you're doing
- 47:56Speaker 1: on in your smartphone, the cool thing, Sean is you
- 47:59Speaker 1: can actually in just before you hit start scan, you
- 48:02Speaker 1: can tag them so you can tell that this is
- 48:04Speaker 1: from nineteen forty eight, this is from nineteen forty nine,
- 48:08Speaker 1: this photo is was taken in the summer. You could
- 48:11Speaker 1: tag it this is you know the weird family, or
- 48:16Speaker 1: you know Caitlin's family, or.
- 48:18Speaker 8: Right, that's that's one of the big things that I've
- 48:20Speaker 8: been struggling with is who puts the data in?
- 48:23Speaker 3: Yep, And that's right.
- 48:24Speaker 9: The medicata isn't get there by itself.
- 48:26Speaker 8: Yeah, so I'm adding that stuff in manually when i'm
- 48:29Speaker 8: you know, I bulk it, right. So it's like, I
- 48:32Speaker 8: have this folder from nineteen eighty and I'm telling it
- 48:36Speaker 8: this is these these files, these ones i'm scanning, are
- 48:39Speaker 8: this nineteen eighty, this event, these people are in them,
- 48:42Speaker 8: and I'm typing all that in while I'm scanning. So
- 48:45Speaker 8: this is like, this is relatively do I've never seen
- 48:49Speaker 8: this before. I would have searched for this.
- 48:52Speaker 9: But the only thing, obviously obviously the faster you do it,
- 48:54Speaker 9: the lower the dpi. Right, it says it'll scan up
- 48:57Speaker 9: to one photo per second at three hundred Pi. That's
- 49:00Speaker 9: pretty low for archive.
- 49:02Speaker 8: Just from the BNH Photo review, it says optical residents
- 49:06Speaker 8: and six hundred ppi max resolution twelve hundred ppi.
- 49:09Speaker 3: Oh, that's even better. Well, that's what he can.
- 49:11Speaker 8: Do, one photo per second at three hundred. Now, if
- 49:13Speaker 8: you're just doing it for like uploading him for people
- 49:16Speaker 8: to look at on the web, that's more than a life.
- 49:18Speaker 3: Yeah, you don't need to go six, you can go
- 49:21Speaker 3: three hundred and there. Look fine.
- 49:22Speaker 1: I said them to my kids and just to see
- 49:24Speaker 1: what they would say, because you know, my my daughters
- 49:26Speaker 1: are in them, and my daughter sent me, you know,
- 49:29Speaker 1: back saying I can't get my eyes off dad's mullet.
- 49:33Speaker 5: Oh you still have that there?
- 49:36Speaker 3: I had the mullet back then. Yes, kids, Yeah, I
- 49:39Speaker 3: mean I.
- 49:40Speaker 8: Encourage anybody that's doing any any sort of photo archiving.
- 49:43Speaker 8: Look at this and it's it's on sale a little
- 49:46Speaker 8: bit right now on B and H.
- 49:48Speaker 5: So come on, Sean, just you know, you don't ask
- 49:50Speaker 5: for permission, just forgiveness. You know, it's come on, you
- 49:53Speaker 5: can do no. You don't know, you know, I'm divorced
- 49:59Speaker 5: guy on the progra.
- 50:00Speaker 1: It's the single guy on the show, the single guy
- 50:03Speaker 1: of the show that said that, didn't.
- 50:06Speaker 6: We have a tagline for one of the shows a
- 50:09Speaker 6: few months back was me saying, I've only had to
- 50:12Speaker 6: miss make that mistake one.
- 50:18Speaker 9: Not to be fair, I have I have Impulse purchased
- 50:20Speaker 9: on the show before, and Caitlin was the recipient of that,
- 50:24Speaker 9: so maybe I could get away with something because it
- 50:26Speaker 9: was the mad was like get the ution, I mean
- 50:31Speaker 9: went online and bought it immediately, so I am an
- 50:34Speaker 9: online impulse buyer, so I have to be careful.
- 50:37Speaker 1: We're coming up to November before before we take a break.
- 50:40Speaker 1: Who's getting the Microsoft sweater this year? Are they gonna
- 50:43Speaker 1: do a new one?
- 50:44Speaker 9: I don't know, but I probably buy it right now.
- 50:47Speaker 9: It's gonna be hard to beat last year's with the
- 50:48Speaker 9: Windows XP background.
- 50:50Speaker 4: Oh, speaking of the Windows XP background, they actually just
- 50:52Speaker 4: released a four K upscaled version of what do.
- 50:57Speaker 7: They call it? Is it?
- 50:58Speaker 3: Is it Bliss?
- 50:59Speaker 7: Bliss? Yeah?
- 51:00Speaker 4: Yeah, they released a four K version of Bliss that
- 51:02Speaker 4: you can download now for Windows eleven. That would that
- 51:05Speaker 4: will fit you know, four K monitors.
- 51:06Speaker 8: And I still have the tag from that sweater. Just
- 51:08Speaker 8: happen you'd be sitting on my desk.
- 51:10Speaker 7: So that's cool.
- 51:12Speaker 3: Matt was looking that up. Did you see anything, Matt?
- 51:14Speaker 6: I see something in the Xbox gear shot, but I
- 51:18Speaker 6: don't see the official Microsoft one yet.
- 51:21Speaker 1: They usually put them out by November first, so we'll
- 51:25Speaker 1: have to hope that we'll have to take another look
- 51:28Speaker 1: next week.
- 51:29Speaker 6: Well, I definitely found what I'm gonna buy from my
- 51:32Speaker 6: own ugly Christmas sweater that somebody made on their own
- 51:36Speaker 6: is Clippy.
- 51:39Speaker 3: The Clippy.
- 51:41Speaker 6: It's it's Clippy sitting there on a stack of documents,
- 51:44Speaker 6: and instead of like would you like help, it.
- 51:45Speaker 3: Says happy holidays with a little.
- 51:47Speaker 6: OK like right underneath it. So I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 51:51Speaker 6: pick that up and just give tons of people uh
- 51:54Speaker 6: PTSD flashbacks off on the shelf.
- 51:57Speaker 1: We should sell shirts with Slick as the elf of
- 52:00Speaker 1: the shelf and put him in different situations. I think
- 52:04Speaker 1: that would be great.
- 52:07Speaker 4: Elf hat Why why why are we doing that for Christmas?
- 52:10Speaker 4: That's more like a Halloween thing. We want to scare.
- 52:15Speaker 1: All Right, We're gonna take a quick break, we come
- 52:17Speaker 1: back more of tech Talk Radio.
- 52:19Speaker 3: A listener question. We'll see if we can get to
- 52:20Speaker 3: that one real quick.
- 52:21Speaker 6: I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean Weird, i am Sick, I'm
- 52:24Speaker 6: Matt Jones, and I'm justin send us an X at
- 52:27Speaker 6: tech Talk Radio.
- 52:29Speaker 5: And now back to tech Talk Radio.
- 52:31Speaker 8: So during the break we will take a look at
- 52:33Speaker 8: the listener questions. And we have Bill Rancho from Mirage, California.
- 52:38Speaker 3: Oh, Rancho, Mirage, we used that's where we started.
- 52:40Speaker 9: Yeah, from over there, I'm from Midwest. That's Rancho.
- 52:47Speaker 4: There's nothing mister Mirage, we have your answer, he asks.
- 52:54Speaker 8: I'm tired of type trying to type into my iPhone
- 52:56Speaker 8: with that little on screen keyboard. One of the reasons
- 52:59Speaker 8: I missed my black Berry is that there was an
- 53:01Speaker 8: actual physical keyboard that would easily connect and give me
- 53:03Speaker 8: a keyboard.
- 53:04Speaker 3: Yeah, he said he.
- 53:05Speaker 9: Would carry his desktop computer computer keyboard with him, but
- 53:07Speaker 9: it would be covers. Well, I mean, yeah, right, yeah,
- 53:11Speaker 9: any Bluetooth keyboard will work.
- 53:14Speaker 3: They've got a couple that.
- 53:15Speaker 8: Even They even have some that connect to the lightning
- 53:18Speaker 8: adapter or the USBC for the new phone. So if
- 53:21Speaker 8: you don't want to have a battery powered one, if
- 53:23Speaker 8: you're looking for ones that are going to be more orgonomical,
- 53:26Speaker 8: like get the ones that you can look at the
- 53:27Speaker 8: ones they have for the iPads. They have them other So.
- 53:30Speaker 1: The Logitech K four eighty is kind of cool. It's
- 53:33Speaker 1: got a little groove you use it with the tablet
- 53:35Speaker 1: or a smartphone. That one's kind of nice. And you
- 53:37Speaker 1: could switch between three Bluetooth devices.
- 53:41Speaker 3: So that's cool.
- 53:41Speaker 1: But I want to check out and I think you
- 53:45Speaker 1: just you just did a highlight of one.
- 53:47Speaker 3: I want to check this out. Clicks.
- 53:50Speaker 1: They it actually so your phone snaps into it and
- 53:54Speaker 1: it gives you.
- 53:54Speaker 3: Like a black blue it looks like a BlackBerry. Yeah,
- 53:57Speaker 3: exactly like it.
- 53:58Speaker 6: If he's talking about missing the BlackBerry keyboard specific I
- 54:01Speaker 6: think clicks. I'm looking at this right now. Clicks is
- 54:04Speaker 6: definitely the way to go. Your phone will snap in
- 54:07Speaker 6: there and you'll have the same old school feel of
- 54:11Speaker 6: that BlackBerry keyboard with like the physical pressable buttons. But
- 54:16Speaker 6: you know, a concern someone would have with that is like, well,
- 54:20Speaker 6: I'm I going to lose the other features with this case.
- 54:22Speaker 6: But I'm seeing like you're still having mag Safe is
- 54:25Speaker 6: built in there. It's got passed through USB, so you're
- 54:28Speaker 6: still able to transfer your data like you're you get
- 54:32Speaker 6: all that space on your screen that normally where your
- 54:36Speaker 6: keyboard like comes up, get all that back because you
- 54:39Speaker 6: have the physical keyboard, so your screen looks like two
- 54:41Speaker 6: times size. Now, So that's that might be the way
- 54:44Speaker 6: to go.
- 54:45Speaker 3: A little pricey though, aren't they. I mean it's yeah, it.
- 54:47Speaker 7: Looks like a little prissy. About one hundred and.
