Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: Hey, we're excited to talk to Luke Weaver right now,
- 0:07Speaker 1: the Pittsburgh Pirates joining us on FT Luke, it's great
- 0:10Speaker 1: to have you back on man. And also just before
- 0:12Speaker 1: we even get going, we haven't had you on since
- 0:14Speaker 1: the trade deadline? Does it feel weird like Luke Weaver
- 0:17Speaker 1: of the Pirates joining.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Us, thank you all for having me. It's definitely weird.
- 0:22Speaker 2: I've my six year old daughter does these little pregame videos,
- 0:26Speaker 2: so she's had to get a new script and try
- 0:29Speaker 2: to trip not trip over her words from time to time.
- 0:32Speaker 2: So it's been an adjustment period. But it's just part
- 0:35Speaker 2: of my journey and it's not the first.
- 0:38Speaker 3: All right, Look, I gotta ask you this. You've played
- 0:40Speaker 3: for both New York teams. Now you go to Pittsburgh.
- 0:43Speaker 3: Is that kind of like going and playing a road
- 0:45Speaker 3: game at the University of Florida and then having to
- 0:47Speaker 3: go to a crappy home game at Florida State. Is
- 0:49Speaker 3: that kind of the same like analogy that you would
- 0:53Speaker 3: use going from New York to Pittsburgh.
- 0:56Speaker 2: You know, I think when you hire a good Lloyds,
- 1:00Speaker 2: they typically tell you to deplete the fifths, So why
- 1:02Speaker 2: don't you just put some respect its name and we'll
- 1:05Speaker 2: keep it.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Yeah, well that was more of a shot at Florida State,
- 1:10Speaker 3: by the way than the Pirates. So I got picked up.
- 1:12Speaker 4: I picked up.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Yeah. But but in all, in all reality, though, it
- 1:16Speaker 3: is a difference. I'm sorry. If you go from you
- 1:18Speaker 3: or the Yankees now when you're with the match, now
- 1:20Speaker 3: you're in the Pirates, there is a difference. Can you
- 1:23Speaker 3: explain that to people out there? The difference in I
- 1:26Speaker 3: don't know. I don't know if you want to call
- 1:27Speaker 3: it pressure or if you want to call it expectations,
- 1:30Speaker 3: media presence. What what's the real difference for a player?
- 1:35Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a little bit of everything. Like you mentioned,
- 1:38Speaker 2: it's the baseball is still baseball. You have history, you
- 1:42Speaker 2: have accolades, things that the team has done in its history,
- 1:47Speaker 2: Like what do you be done more recently? How much
- 1:50Speaker 2: money you get to spend every year? You know, are
- 1:53Speaker 2: you homegrown? Are you out there trying to get players
- 1:56Speaker 2: in free agencies? So I think expectations, I think a
- 2:01Speaker 2: fan base that they're all very passionate no matter where
- 2:04Speaker 2: you're at. It just it could be anywhere from promotional
- 2:08Speaker 2: stuff and everything in between. I really don't I can't
- 2:13Speaker 2: put a finger on it. But at the end of
- 2:14Speaker 2: the day, it just has a different feel from time
- 2:17Speaker 2: to time teams come in. There's you know, when you're
- 2:20Speaker 2: playing a Yankees Dodgers series, it just has a.
- 2:25Speaker 4: Media or to it.
- 2:27Speaker 2: I think more than anything I would say if I
- 2:29Speaker 2: would really change my answer, it would just come down
- 2:31Speaker 2: to like what the media portrays the series to be,
- 2:35Speaker 2: because it's always hyped up more than it needs to be.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Before we get to some pirates stuff, did you think
- 2:41Speaker 1: there was any chance you would land with the Yankees again?
- 2:44Speaker 1: And would that have been weird? We saw you popping
- 2:46Speaker 1: up in some trade rumors there too.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Sure there was a part of me that was possibly
- 2:53Speaker 2: envisioning what that would look like, but at the end
- 2:55Speaker 2: of the day, it's so far fetched you can never
- 2:58Speaker 2: put your finger on Itbviously, the trade deadline works in
- 3:02Speaker 2: mysterious ways, So coming to Pittsburgh was definitely not on
- 3:06Speaker 2: the radar. But you know, at the end of the day,
- 3:09Speaker 2: I'm where I need to be, and I'll figure it
- 3:11Speaker 2: out and adapt and try to make the best of
- 3:13Speaker 2: it and impact the way I can. And I'm actually
- 3:15Speaker 2: excited being here and seeing what these guys provide and
- 3:18Speaker 2: what the future holds for them.
- 3:20Speaker 5: Now, just trying to give people a little glimpse into
- 3:22Speaker 5: the trade deadline. Did they give you any type of
- 3:25Speaker 5: heads up that you were going to be traded or
- 3:26Speaker 5: any kind of inclination, And now moving on from the
- 3:29Speaker 5: Mets kind of can you explain what kind of what
- 3:33Speaker 5: did from your point of view kind of what went
- 3:36Speaker 5: wrong kind of or what was going wrong there with
- 3:38Speaker 5: the season so far, because you guys always have the
- 3:40Speaker 5: roster there.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Yeah, they're a little bit of a heads up. You
- 3:46Speaker 2: can obviously see how it's being discussed in the media,
- 3:49Speaker 2: whether you want to see it or not. People talk,
- 3:51Speaker 2: you see things by accident, whatever. But there was good conversations,
- 3:58Speaker 2: you know, Stearns and I have a conversation, was quick
- 4:00Speaker 2: and understanding that being there was the priority.
- 4:03Speaker 4: But things happen in our.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Business and we have to, you know, see what what
- 4:08Speaker 2: comes about, what teams are pushing and what the what
- 4:12Speaker 2: offers are available, and so just understanding that process. Have
- 4:16Speaker 2: been traded twice eighth team now, so I truly get
- 4:20Speaker 2: it like a lot of people do.
- 4:22Speaker 4: And so you know, I got a little.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Heads up earlier that day that it might be happening,
- 4:27Speaker 2: and you know, you got to figure out how to
- 4:31Speaker 2: dot the eyes and across the t's whatever business people say.
- 4:34Speaker 2: But at the end of the day, you know, I
- 4:37Speaker 2: locked in and here we are. But to the second
- 4:40Speaker 2: question with the Mets, yeah, I just it's a great team.
- 4:43Speaker 2: It's a lot of great people over there, young players,
- 4:46Speaker 2: veteran players, like it's not a team that should on paper,
- 4:53Speaker 2: you know, put out the way it was. I think
- 4:55Speaker 2: the real the realization of putting together chemistry of a
- 4:59Speaker 2: team and trying to have a lot of new faces,
- 5:02Speaker 2: some turnover, and just expecting that all to come together
- 5:05Speaker 2: at once, you know, is an expectation that you want
- 5:09Speaker 2: to happen, and we all believe that would happen. But
- 5:12Speaker 2: it's not always, you know, the truth of the matter,
- 5:15Speaker 2: and things take time. You know, there's great teams that
- 5:20Speaker 2: are built together on one year, but very rarely do
- 5:23Speaker 2: you see in sports that it just comes together all
- 5:25Speaker 2: at once right away. And the messhine as you've seen
- 5:28Speaker 2: of late, you know from from Afar now that I'm watching,
- 5:31Speaker 2: they're playing some good baseball.
- 5:33Speaker 4: And they happen, and that's just a matter of timing.
- 5:36Speaker 2: It's a matter of whatever you know, baseball brings to
- 5:40Speaker 2: them that given day, anybody can get hot. We've seen
- 5:42Speaker 2: it multiple times from teams like the Red Sox and
- 5:45Speaker 2: the Phillies right now. So you're just trying to get
- 5:48Speaker 2: on a heater when you can. And when you're doing
- 5:50Speaker 2: that and the conference is high, you just never know
- 5:51Speaker 2: where it takes you.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Luke, Let's let's go to some a little better. Let's
- 5:56Speaker 3: go to the Pirates or new team. What have they
- 5:59Speaker 3: told you when you came up? Do they leave you
- 6:01Speaker 3: alone when you first come over. Does their pitching coach,
- 6:04Speaker 3: their pitching department come to you right away and say, hey, Luke,
- 6:07Speaker 3: we've noticed system. You're having a hell of years. So
- 6:10Speaker 3: if I was in I'd just be saying, just keep
- 6:11Speaker 3: throwing that little cut of your throwing, don't walk anybody.
- 6:14Speaker 3: You're not giving up any hits. Let's just do it
- 6:16Speaker 3: that way. Or do they come with you to you
- 6:17Speaker 3: with little tweaks.
- 6:20Speaker 4: No, they've been great. They've let me do my own thing.
- 6:22Speaker 2: They've let me adjust into their system and just we've
- 6:26Speaker 2: had to sit down just going over normal stuff.
- 6:28Speaker 4: The way I think, the way I'm.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Going pitch to pitch, just my process and it was
- 6:35Speaker 2: probably me me talking more than they were.
- 6:38Speaker 4: But just trying to get familiarity.
- 6:41Speaker 2: And I'm always at the point where I'm at right now,
- 6:44Speaker 2: like I've just learned everything about myself in this game
- 6:47Speaker 2: and continuing to just sharpen I guess my iron and
- 6:51Speaker 2: being able to just tweak here and there. So I
- 6:54Speaker 2: try to be transparent, make sure we have an open dialogue,
- 6:56Speaker 2: and when I have questions and things that are any
- 7:00Speaker 2: yellow flags, they're leading to red flags, I want to
- 7:02Speaker 2: know immediately. So that's been a really good conversation that
- 7:06Speaker 2: we've had, and it's been very minimal, but there's been,
- 7:10Speaker 2: let's see, strategic conversations that aren't you trying to change
- 7:15Speaker 2: much of me.
- 7:15Speaker 4: It's just trying to get better any day that I
- 7:18Speaker 4: can get better.
- 7:22Speaker 6: One of the things that I wasn't very good at, well,
- 7:25Speaker 6: it's playing Major League Baseball. One of the things that
- 7:27Speaker 6: I'm really good at is sweating. Even now when I'm
- 7:30Speaker 6: not playing, I need hydration. I need to make sure
- 7:34Speaker 6: it's convenient. That's why I choose quins.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Yep quints electrolyte stick packs to the rescue krats. They
- 7:41Speaker 1: taste great and the zero sugar options are Stevia free.
- 7:45Speaker 1: They're Keto approved, naturally sweetened with fermented rice, and like
- 7:48Speaker 1: everything Quince does, they're thoughtfully made and priced well. At
- 7:51Speaker 1: twenty dollars for thirty servings, they're less than half of
- 7:54Speaker 1: the leading brand. Give your body what it really needs
- 7:57Speaker 1: to stay hydrated. Go to quints dot com slash foul

- 8:17Speaker 1: prevent any disease.
- 8:20Speaker 3: That's awesome, that's that's smarter them. By the way, I
- 8:22Speaker 3: mentioned your cutter, did you make some tweaks to it
- 8:25Speaker 3: other than throwing it more this year? Because it's basically
- 8:28Speaker 3: been unhittable by everybody.
- 8:31Speaker 4: Well, Jay, let's try to keep it like, keep it
- 8:33Speaker 4: that way.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Okay, we don't tell you, man, I'll take that back.
- 8:36Speaker 3: We're not gonna talk about it. Okay, we'll take it back.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Just kidding on.
- 8:39Speaker 2: What I did was Yeah, So that's been a real
- 8:42Speaker 2: fight for me. Uh, it's always been a fight spinning.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Spinning pitches is just not really been the love of
- 8:49Speaker 2: pitching and the love of it's given back. It's always
- 8:53Speaker 2: just been a love hate relationship. And so twenty twenty
- 8:56Speaker 2: four I really erupted with that pitch and just found
- 8:59Speaker 2: a good feel for it and used it all over
- 9:02Speaker 2: the plate and just helped bridge the gap to both
- 9:04Speaker 2: sides of the plate. Last year it became real silent
- 9:07Speaker 2: because it was just had a lot of carry but
- 9:10Speaker 2: no cut, so it just felt like a really a
- 9:14Speaker 2: wonky fastball, you know, something that was a little less
- 9:17Speaker 2: v low and something that was a little bit straighter
- 9:20Speaker 2: or just flat.
- 9:21Speaker 4: So I avoided that pitch at all costs.
- 9:23Speaker 2: And then this year I was just really relentless in
- 9:26Speaker 2: my pursuit to find something that was going to bridge
- 9:28Speaker 2: the gap again and played around with different grips. I
- 9:33Speaker 2: think I ended up landing on like some type of
- 9:35Speaker 2: slider grip that would be like a normal slider for
- 9:39Speaker 2: somebody else, but for me, it's still like it's kind
- 9:41Speaker 2: of a cutter profile.
- 9:43Speaker 4: And it really came down to just if I can make.
- 9:45Speaker 2: This ball move left just a little bit, then I
- 9:48Speaker 2: have I'll have complete trust and knowing that I can
- 9:51Speaker 2: use it the way I want to. And I think
- 9:53Speaker 2: that's really shown up against right handers and no left handers.
- 9:57Speaker 2: It's been a little less on the usage. I need
- 9:59Speaker 2: to kind of maybe pick that up. Maybe maybe not.
- 10:02Speaker 2: I don't know hitters, uh, But at the end of
- 10:04Speaker 2: the day, I think that's been the huge the huge
- 10:07Speaker 2: jump of getting back to that pitch is just getting
- 10:10Speaker 2: something that I know could move.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Luke, you played for the Yankees. Okay, they had a
- 10:15Speaker 3: guy that only threw cutters pretty much his career. Couldn't
- 10:17Speaker 3: you pick up the phone and call Mariano and just say, MO,
- 10:21Speaker 3: show me how to throw a cutter.
- 10:24Speaker 2: You know you know this better than anybody that it
- 10:29Speaker 2: doesn't just work like that.
- 10:30Speaker 4: It's not that he.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Doesn't, but he showed me once how to throw a cutter,
- 10:33Speaker 3: and he just he just said, take a force.
- 10:35Speaker 4: And you throw his arms.
- 10:38Speaker 3: And just rip it.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Next do you throw at his mindset? Do you throw
- 10:41Speaker 2: it with we The one thing that I've learned about that.
- 10:44Speaker 3: Hard, Luke, it's easy. The fans just it's so easy
- 10:47Speaker 3: to pick the ball up just do it.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Hey, when your heartbeat is out of your chest, you're
- 10:54Speaker 2: in over your head on the mound in a hard situation,
- 10:56Speaker 2: and you're telling me just throw the ball like Mariana Rivera. Yeah,
- 11:01Speaker 2: I guess it could be that easy, But the problem
- 11:03Speaker 2: is is it's not. And I have too much going
- 11:06Speaker 2: on to think of that it's going to be that easy.
- 11:08Speaker 4: So no, I've tried.
- 11:10Speaker 2: I mean i've I've seen his grip, I've done research
- 11:13Speaker 2: on and I've I think as players were always trying
- 11:16Speaker 2: to find what guys or to our teammates or people
- 11:19Speaker 2: around the league are doing exceptionally well, and we copycat
- 11:22Speaker 2: it to some extent, or at least we give it
- 11:24Speaker 2: a shot. It doesn't always fit, you know. It's just
- 11:27Speaker 2: different releases, different ways we get through the ball, the mechanics,
- 11:31Speaker 2: the timing. Like, there's just some limitations that happen in
- 11:35Speaker 2: our game that don't allow us to achieve the results
- 11:38Speaker 2: that we want. So that is the beauty of our game,
- 11:42Speaker 2: the challenge of it, and what makes everybody unique in
- 11:44Speaker 2: their own little way.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Okay, Luke, I got to ask you this because every
- 11:49Speaker 3: guy has a superstition. It's coffee, or it's I got
- 11:53Speaker 3: to get dressed a certain way, or I have to
- 11:55Speaker 3: eat but wade bogs. I'd eat chicken before every game.
- 11:58Speaker 3: You drink orange juice? Is that because you're from DeLand
- 12:00Speaker 3: and all there is orange groves out there? Why is
- 12:03Speaker 3: it orange juice for you? Uh?
- 12:06Speaker 2: Man, you've been you've been reading, you're watching, or someone
- 12:10Speaker 2: slipped you a note.
- 12:15Speaker 4: Well, who doesn't like orange juice?
- 12:17Speaker 2: First of all, let me preface it and say, if
- 12:19Speaker 2: you don't like orange juice, like, it's such.
- 12:21Speaker 4: An easy thing to love.
- 12:24Speaker 2: It's good for you. It's it's nutritious, it's it tastes good,
- 12:28Speaker 2: it looks cool. I mean you can put ice in it.
- 12:30Speaker 2: You can put you can make it with drinks. You
- 12:32Speaker 2: could do it. It's a it's just like a number
- 12:35Speaker 2: one overall pick type thing. But in reality, to your question,
- 12:39Speaker 2: I would say orange juice is just it's one of
- 12:42Speaker 2: those things that fuels the brain. It helps, you know,
- 12:45Speaker 2: jump some glucose in there. It helps give a little
- 12:47Speaker 2: bit of energize mental health, mental clarity.
- 12:51Speaker 4: It tastes good again, and you could drink it throughout
- 12:53Speaker 4: the day.
- 12:53Speaker 2: And I'm just trying to gain any edge I can,
- 12:56Speaker 2: so I'll be down there in the bullpen, sipping on
- 12:59Speaker 2: some orange juice, throwing in a couple of you know,
- 13:02Speaker 2: gummy bears, and then just ready to go rock.
- 13:05Speaker 3: Alright, So you're either trying to get a sponsorship from
- 13:07Speaker 3: Trampicana minute man, I don't know. Florida.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Florida's Barlida Natalie is a good brand. That's a good brand,
- 13:17Speaker 2: that that tastes good, it's got a it's good family operated.
- 13:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I wouldn't look. Yeah, maybe you're right. Maybe maybe
- 13:23Speaker 4: I'm in.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Over my head and I'm I'm too naive to think
- 13:26Speaker 2: that my intentions aren't as pure as I think they are.
- 13:29Speaker 4: But uh, when people ask I I think we know.
- 13:34Speaker 2: By now, like I filter my question or my answers somewhat.
- 13:39Speaker 2: But it's not like a robotic, you know way that
- 13:42Speaker 2: maybe most guys might just play it safe.
- 13:45Speaker 4: And I don't know why.
- 13:46Speaker 2: That just tits to come out sometimes and it's typically
- 13:49Speaker 2: because it's probably sitting right here across the desk, hidden
- 13:52Speaker 2: behind the backside of it.
- 13:53Speaker 3: Do you have a juicer? Do you have a juicer?
- 13:55Speaker 3: So you know how stars have their little so when
- 13:58Speaker 3: you go on the road, when you go on the road,
- 14:00Speaker 3: do you have, do you tell the hotel, you tell
- 14:02Speaker 3: the traveling secretary there, Hey I need freshly squeezed orange
- 14:05Speaker 3: juice or juicer in my room or do you carry
- 14:08Speaker 3: one with you?
- 14:10Speaker 1: Uh?
- 14:11Speaker 2: Well, my wife had ordered me like a delivery of
- 14:14Speaker 2: orange juice when we were just sen La to the
- 14:16Speaker 2: hotel because I don't really quite not operate at that
- 14:20Speaker 2: at that level.
- 14:21Speaker 4: But and then the team dietist nutritionist dietician has upgraded
- 14:29Speaker 4: orange juice options that get sent to the field for
- 14:33Speaker 4: everybody's use, not just mine. But I think there's I
- 14:36Speaker 4: just keep telling them, if we want to be elite,
- 14:38Speaker 4: we gotta we gotta take an elite things. We gotta
- 14:40Speaker 4: do elite things. That's it.

- 16:20Speaker 3: You know what I was elite at McDonald's.
- 16:26Speaker 4: Was pretty solid. So particular.
- 16:28Speaker 3: It was a different time. Look, it was a different time.
- 16:31Speaker 3: We had ice cream, We had all these cool things
- 16:34Speaker 3: in the club out.
- 16:34Speaker 4: They won't let you eat ice cream these days.
- 16:37Speaker 2: It's like, I'm not gonna name names. I'm not saying
- 16:40Speaker 2: now when I'm not putting a time period on. I'm
- 16:42Speaker 2: just saying, baseball's got a little more strict on the
- 16:44Speaker 2: diet stuff, and I'm like, look, as a guy who
- 16:47Speaker 2: is just pushing every day for every calorie, please don't
- 16:51Speaker 2: allow this to be a thing for me, Like, just
- 16:54Speaker 2: let me spread my wings.
- 16:55Speaker 4: I'm a peacock.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Hey here, I know I think can't playing swampiero, Luke
- 17:01Speaker 3: if I I played with Wampier for multiple years. Shredded, Shredded,
- 17:06Speaker 3: that was your favorite player?
- 17:07Speaker 4: Yeah, favorite player growing up, one.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Of the greatest dudes of all time. Shredded. Okay, like
- 17:12Speaker 3: Shredded eate twelve ice cream bars a day. I've never
- 17:15Speaker 3: seen it. He'd ate four ice cream bars and go
- 17:17Speaker 3: out there and run a hundred sprints and come in
- 17:20Speaker 3: and eat more. I ate more ice cream bars for
- 17:22Speaker 3: the game. And I'm like, if I look like I'd
- 17:24Speaker 3: weigh four hundred pounds.
- 17:25Speaker 1: You don't.
- 17:26Speaker 2: That sounds like that sounds like a friend of the
- 17:29Speaker 2: program Tommy Canley.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Yes, Yeah, that man was freaking.
- 17:35Speaker 4: Ruthless and he just and he go throw his change
- 17:38Speaker 4: ups and call it day.
- 17:40Speaker 3: Yea helmet.
- 17:44Speaker 5: I just wear my hat with the helmet like one
- 17:46Speaker 5: because of that. Oh no way, that's so cool the
- 17:49Speaker 5: longest time. Yeah, can we wish this man happy birthday?
- 17:54Speaker 4: Too? Oh boy, happy belated birthday. Thank you.
- 18:00Speaker 2: We're researched. These guys are unprepared.
- 18:04Speaker 4: They're not trying to be elite.
- 18:08Speaker 3: By the way, it was Wan Pierre's birthday fourteenth, so
- 18:10Speaker 3: not that long a ten days ago.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Too Well's birthday. Wait, why wasn't Luke Weaver an all star?
- 18:16Speaker 3: Luke?
- 18:16Speaker 1: Can we finish with that?
- 18:19Speaker 3: Why?
- 18:19Speaker 7: I've just because they didn't wrap fifty staves, you don't
- 18:23Speaker 7: get love. And I did my piece on this and
- 18:26Speaker 7: was saying, like specific guys that would get picked over
- 18:28Speaker 7: you because of how many saves they have. And I
- 18:31Speaker 7: know sometimes guys get picked that aren't closers, but often
- 18:34Speaker 7: the you know, set up guy or the fireman or
- 18:37Speaker 7: whatever gets overshadowed by a closer, even though we're trying
- 18:41Speaker 7: to value a player like that just as much. So
- 18:44Speaker 7: I have I have to go there, man, I was like,
- 18:46Speaker 7: this is.
- 18:46Speaker 2: The appreciated look. I wanted to say something on that
- 18:49Speaker 2: real quick. I I appreciate it. I think I've come
- 18:55Speaker 2: to the conclusion that this game is obviously hard. Winning
- 18:59Speaker 2: and and trying to achieve things that we all want
- 19:02Speaker 2: to as a player is really hard.
- 19:05Speaker 4: It's a lot of a lot of it's out of
- 19:06Speaker 4: our control.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Like you said, there's a lot of stipulations and things
- 19:10Speaker 2: that go into.
- 19:11Speaker 4: It that that create those those results.
- 19:15Speaker 2: I'm I'm finally at a place where I just I
- 19:19Speaker 2: do care, but I don't care anymore, right Like I'm
- 19:22Speaker 2: my my goal right now is to like try to
- 19:25Speaker 2: serve my teammates, try to like make an impact, try
- 19:28Speaker 2: to you know, full circle this whole career.
- 19:30Speaker 4: And try to make something impactful out of it.
- 19:32Speaker 2: And so those things, yeah, they bother you a little
- 19:36Speaker 2: bit because that's why we play, you know, beyond other things.
- 19:39Speaker 2: But we want to have recognition for the hard work
- 19:41Speaker 2: we put it into, and they make it very important
- 19:44Speaker 2: to have those labels. But I'm at peace with it,
- 19:47Speaker 2: like it is what it is, and I'll play the
- 19:49Speaker 2: rest of my career however long that is, and I
- 19:52Speaker 2: don't need those things in order to to to.
- 19:55Speaker 4: Feel like I accomplished something.
- 19:56Speaker 2: I do feel like there's moments where, you know, I
- 19:59Speaker 2: do like I played well enough to earn some of
- 20:01Speaker 2: those things, But if it's not in the cards, not
- 20:04Speaker 2: in the cards, and I think that other people can
- 20:06Speaker 2: deserve those things and be happy with them. But I'm
- 20:09Speaker 2: all good, So I appreciate that. But it's taken a
- 20:11Speaker 2: long time to finally come to peace of that and
- 20:13Speaker 2: just be like, that's just part of this, is part
- 20:15Speaker 2: of how it goes.
- 20:17Speaker 1: That's fair. You can't control it, so you might as
- 20:19Speaker 1: well just enjoy the ride.
- 20:21Speaker 3: By the way, Do you miss Devin Williams? You were
- 20:23Speaker 3: with him forever? Do you miss Devin? Do you call
- 20:25Speaker 3: him every day?
- 20:25Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 20:26Speaker 2: Mess big D. That's why I call him big D. Yeah, No,
- 20:31Speaker 2: I'm he got a little emotional. I'm not gonna lie.
- 20:34Speaker 2: I don't want to call him out, but I know we.
- 20:36Speaker 4: Were just as tight as friends as you could possibly be.
- 20:40Speaker 2: And I'm you know, but we were good friends and
- 20:42Speaker 2: we you know, we went through in the last couple
- 20:45Speaker 2: of years together and he's just a good dude.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Man.
- 20:48Speaker 2: He's a great pitcher, and obviously I wish him the
- 20:50Speaker 2: best on his health with this recovery of the injury.
- 20:53Speaker 2: But he's gonna be He's gonna be great. He's going
- 20:56Speaker 2: to continue to do his thing. And I don't know
- 20:58Speaker 2: what you're looking for on this. It's just them being
- 21:01Speaker 2: the greatest guy ever.
- 21:03Speaker 3: I just want it was a legitimate question. I played
- 21:05Speaker 3: with guys. They went and then you leave them, and
- 21:08Speaker 3: then you're like, man, I kind of miss hanging out
- 21:10Speaker 3: with this dude, because especially you guys are in the
- 21:12Speaker 3: bullpen every day. You guys are on different teams. You
- 21:14Speaker 3: guys signed free agent deals to be with each other, right,
- 21:17Speaker 3: I mean that was a legitimate question.
- 21:20Speaker 2: All right, all right, Well you know, look we uh
- 21:23Speaker 2: you for him? Yeah, you form some good relationships. You know,
- 21:26Speaker 2: bullpen guys come and go all the freaking time. It
- 21:28Speaker 2: seems like there it's a revolving door.
- 21:31Speaker 1: You know.
- 21:32Speaker 2: The next thing, you look this guy through three innings
- 21:34Speaker 2: and he's not there the next day. But yeah, you
- 21:36Speaker 2: have the guys that have signed and they're kind of
- 21:39Speaker 2: staples down there that you go to war with every
- 21:41Speaker 2: day that you're trying to pick each other's uh bases
- 21:44Speaker 2: loaded or a couple of guys on mess and just
- 21:47Speaker 2: give him a big old hug, maybe not a kiss,
- 21:50Speaker 2: but you know, we don't go that far. But at
- 21:52Speaker 2: the end of the day, I will miss him. I'll
- 21:55Speaker 2: miss guys like Brooks, Ralia Mentor and you know, the
- 21:58Speaker 2: guys with the Yanks all the things.
- 22:00Speaker 4: Man, you just but you get to see him across
- 22:01Speaker 4: the field and.
- 22:02Speaker 2: You get to compete, and it's just an added list.
- 22:05Speaker 2: And thankfully I'm already married for a while, so there's
- 22:08Speaker 2: not a bigger list growing for some type of wedding
- 22:10Speaker 2: and where the but then there would be.
- 22:12Speaker 4: More presents and stuff which I wouldn't tell them about.
- 22:14Speaker 1: But well, it was like Lucas Juli, Renaudo Lopez.
- 22:20Speaker 3: They went from my team to team to team with
- 22:21Speaker 3: each other.
- 22:22Speaker 1: It was cool, like randomly they would get traded or
- 22:25Speaker 1: in the same trade or whatever. They just kept ending
- 22:27Speaker 1: up in the same spot. So you guys add that
- 22:29Speaker 1: for a couple of years there, but Luke. Great catching up, dude,
- 22:34Speaker 1: Thanks for the time, if you enjoyed it. On a
- 22:36Speaker 1: wild ride.
- 22:36Speaker 3: Quick question, what do you think Florida State's record will
- 22:39Speaker 3: be in football this year? Well, they win, but they'd
- 22:41Speaker 3: be over six and six. This is this is leg
- 22:43Speaker 3: This is.
- 22:43Speaker 2: A serious questions for everybody goes through growing pains, and yes,
- 22:49Speaker 2: am I showing up to any of these games?
- 22:51Speaker 4: Absolutely not. I mean they're not They're not trying to
- 22:56Speaker 4: be elite. I mean, you know, it's ridiculous.
- 22:59Speaker 2: You go from being spoiled and and you know, going
- 23:01Speaker 2: to school there with Jabu Winston and winning Natty Champs
- 23:05Speaker 2: and then hucking in on the field and watching them
- 23:07Speaker 2: getting pickles on the baseball path and you know, just
- 23:10Speaker 2: doing crazy stuff. But yeah, I mean, I guess we'll
- 23:14Speaker 2: shoot for five hundred a j I don't know, like
- 23:16Speaker 2: what's the expectation anymore.
- 23:18Speaker 1: That's what it is. They're projected six and six.
- 23:21Speaker 2: You know, and got Yeah, I don't know, but either way,
- 23:25Speaker 2: you know, we'll just focus on the baseball side.
- 23:27Speaker 4: I don't know where basketball's at.
- 23:28Speaker 2: I'm sure I think we got a great golf golf.
- 23:31Speaker 2: We got Miles Russell and Charlie woods that are committed.
- 23:36Speaker 3: Congratula Florida State. Florida State is a golf school. Congratulations. Yeah. Yeah.
- 23:46Speaker 3: And the us AM kid, the kid, I think you
- 23:48Speaker 3: finished second in the us AM Miles Russell.
- 23:50Speaker 4: Miles Russell, they had Lefty. Yeah, just two top dogs.
- 23:54Speaker 2: I mean, look, I might be out there walking the
- 23:56Speaker 2: course with Tiger just hey, you know it's you draw
- 24:01Speaker 2: chip it or do you cut? What do you what
- 24:02Speaker 2: are you doing with the hands? You know it's the
- 24:03Speaker 2: body good. You know's we'll chop it up, We'll figure
- 24:06Speaker 2: it out.
- 24:07Speaker 1: Yeah, you gotta go back, all right. Luke, do your thing. Man,
- 24:10Speaker 1: Thank you so much for all the Shenanigans. Appreciate you.
- 24:13Speaker 4: Yeah, of course, thank y'all. Have a good one.
- 24:16Speaker 3: Thanks you too.
- 24:17Speaker 1: That's Luke Weaver of the Pirates. We've got the Pirates show.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Josh Harrison, Noah Hiles and platter T running point on
- 24:23Speaker 1: Bucco Territory. More on there. They're great.
