- 2:50Speaker 3: is going to be here as well. Let me welcome
- 2:52Speaker 3: to the show. Now another good friend. It's Rich the
- 2:54Speaker 3: realtor makes Realty. Hey doing man, Hey, good good morning,
- 2:57Speaker 3: Happy Thanksgiving to you as well. Are you ready for
- 2:59Speaker 3: your wife's famous bag beans. It's your favorite side dish. Well,
- 3:05Speaker 3: you know, I kind of go back and forth on
- 3:07Speaker 3: the side dishes. Tony, Tony, I'm sorry, Rich, Rich, Steve, Alice, whatever, youna.
- 3:13Speaker 3: But my wife does make the best big beans in
- 3:15Speaker 3: the world. And I have said this before. They are
- 3:19Speaker 3: it's kind of like it's like meat with a few
- 3:22Speaker 3: beanstone in it, because she does like the peppers, and
- 3:26Speaker 3: it's ground beef and and there's some beans in there.
- 3:28Speaker 3: And of course it's hot, because everything we make in
- 3:30Speaker 3: our house hot.
- 3:31Speaker 4: Yeah, So that's kind of almost a chili though, is
- 3:33Speaker 4: it not.
- 3:34Speaker 3: No, it's chili esque. I guess it's it's in the family,
- 3:40Speaker 3: their cousins. They hang out at the reunion, right.
- 3:44Speaker 2: You know.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Actually, she she told me this last week because it's
- 3:47Speaker 3: just just me and her for Thanksgiving and everything has
- 3:50Speaker 3: to be done by four to twenty five, and the
- 3:52Speaker 3: Cowboys beat the Chiefs, so everything's got to be done
- 3:55Speaker 3: by then, and means I have to have all the
- 3:57Speaker 3: dishes washed by then. That's what it means. We're not
- 4:00Speaker 3: actually doing Turkey this year. We are doing cornish hens.
- 4:04Speaker 3: From what I understand what I've been told, We're gonna
- 4:07Speaker 3: do corn, which is like how different? That's those are good.
- 4:09Speaker 4: I love them.
- 4:10Speaker 3: It's like having your own little individual turkey. Yeah and
- 4:13Speaker 3: uh and you get to eat it with your fingers. Yeah,
- 4:15Speaker 3: well I eat make beans with my fingers. Remember, remember,
- 4:17Speaker 3: I am from I am from Logan, So let's let's
- 4:19Speaker 3: keep that going. High Rich Surrealtor is here. He comes
- 4:21Speaker 3: in from time. What's your favorite Thanksgiving side?
- 4:23Speaker 6: Is?
- 4:23Speaker 3: Because I know you and the lovely Sarah are always
- 4:26Speaker 3: taking pictures and posting them on my line.
- 4:28Speaker 1: So I've always been a green bean cast role fan.
- 4:30Speaker 1: At please don't please, don't come at me.
- 4:32Speaker 3: I was gonna say, you're the other guy, because green
- 4:35Speaker 3: bean cast role gets so much hate and I love it.
- 4:38Speaker 1: I know, I like it and uh I used to
- 4:40Speaker 1: fight with my niece and nephews about it.
- 4:42Speaker 4: Who's going to get the biggest portion and all that stuff.
- 4:44Speaker 4: I just I've always enjoyed it.
- 4:46Speaker 1: So uh. But Sarah makes so many good things too.
- 4:49Speaker 1: So she's got a homemade mac and cheese. You're a
- 4:51Speaker 1: cook too, I am. But thanks we do this together Thanksgiving.
- 4:55Speaker 1: We team up on this because we're hosting, so it's
- 4:57Speaker 1: a I'm kind of in charge.
- 4:59Speaker 4: Of the turkey.
- 4:59Speaker 3: I people, you haven't over in my lost track, and
- 5:02Speaker 3: why am I not one someone?
- 5:04Speaker 1: Well, you and ruth Aner are happy that we have
- 5:06Speaker 1: we have we have room for you, so come on over.
- 5:08Speaker 1: But we're not doing cornish to ten. We're doing turkeys, okay,
- 5:11Speaker 1: but I'm doing a dry Brian this year on the turkey.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I usually Brian the turkey, and this year I'm trying
- 5:15Speaker 1: to dry Brian. So okay, I'll let you know how
- 5:18Speaker 1: that go. Sounds good.
- 5:19Speaker 3: I like the side dishes just as much as a turkey.
- 5:21Speaker 3: I mean, we've talked about my wife's baked beans. But
- 5:23Speaker 3: I will tell you I love dressing. Dressing is my
- 5:26Speaker 3: I mean dressing, stuffing, whatever you want to call it.
- 5:28Speaker 1: No glories and no not on Thanksgiving, not on Thanksgiving,
- 5:32Speaker 1: not loud all right, So we're not gonna turn this.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Into the food. Yeah, but what's what's going on in
- 5:38Speaker 3: the world of rich the real TI?
- 5:40Speaker 4: You have some properties you want to do, I do.
- 5:42Speaker 1: I've got some listings I want to just talk about
- 5:44Speaker 1: to make sure everybody's aware and that you know, it's
- 5:45Speaker 1: kind of a different time of the year right now
- 5:47Speaker 1: where things are a little slower in real estate world
- 5:49Speaker 1: where people are talking turkeys and you know, holidays, and
- 5:53Speaker 1: I guess we're thirty days from Christmas already. Today is
- 5:55Speaker 1: twenty fifth. So but anyway, I've got some listings I
- 5:59Speaker 1: want to talk about. My newest listing is actually in
- 6:01Speaker 1: the South Hills. It's a beautiful little, not really little,
- 6:04Speaker 1: twenty two hundred square feet or so in the South Hills.
- 6:07Speaker 1: It's a three level split homes. It's got some unique
- 6:11Speaker 1: characteristics about the home. It's located at one twenty eight
- 6:14Speaker 1: McGovern which is off of Hickory. So just take Hickory
- 6:17Speaker 1: off of one nineteen and then just a little bit
- 6:20Speaker 1: up the hill, go left on mcgovernin and you'll find this.
- 6:23Speaker 1: You'll find the science taking to the home. It's at
- 6:25Speaker 1: the end of could Sacks, so it's got some privacy
- 6:27Speaker 1: back there. Beautiful overlooking deck into the woods. That's just
- 6:31Speaker 1: it'd be a great place to sit and have your
- 6:34Speaker 1: morning coffee or whatever that is what you like to
- 6:36Speaker 1: do in the morning. But it's three bedroom, one and
- 6:38Speaker 1: a half bath, Like I said, almost twenty two hundred
- 6:40Speaker 1: square feet. It's a newer roof on it, some fresh
- 6:42Speaker 1: paint throughout it's just really something.
- 6:46Speaker 4: To go see. So it's great neighborhood. Yeah, it's a
- 6:48Speaker 4: great neighborhood there.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Yeah, two seventy four to nine on this house that
- 6:51Speaker 1: just hit the market recently, so love for you to
- 6:53Speaker 1: check that out. I've got the one in Windfield which
- 6:57Speaker 1: is one thirty four Waterside Cool. It's a beautiful home
- 7:01Speaker 1: for four bedroom, two and a half bath, all brick
- 7:04Speaker 1: and in a flat neighborhood in Windfield's one of the
- 7:06Speaker 1: Leslie Leslie neighborhoods there and it's listed at four ninety
- 7:10Speaker 1: nine nine.
- 7:11Speaker 4: It's a beautiful home there. You should go and.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Check that out as well. Give me a call or
- 7:16Speaker 1: your real Turk course and we can get you in there.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Still have one in stone Gate Subdivision and Hurricane that
- 7:23Speaker 1: is kind of the older, one of the new, one
- 7:27Speaker 1: of the first ones to really build some of those
- 7:29Speaker 1: giant homes. And this house is eighty five hundred square
- 7:32Speaker 1: feet so takes a family to occupy that kind of
- 7:35Speaker 1: a home. But it's listed at eight seventy four nine
- 7:37Speaker 1: and it's six bedrooms and five and a half baths
- 7:40Speaker 1: and sits on a full acre lot. I mean it
- 7:43Speaker 1: just has three wet bars and two kitchens, and it's something.
- 7:47Speaker 1: It's quite something to see. It's got it.
- 7:48Speaker 4: Sure that's not a restaurant, you know, it could be.
- 7:51Speaker 1: They have the two kitchen concept was kind of weird
- 7:54Speaker 1: for the current occupants and for me when I saw it.
- 7:57Speaker 1: But they, you know, they use one of them as
- 7:59Speaker 1: kind of a up kitchen and then they transfer things
- 8:02Speaker 1: to their service kitchen, which is out kind of in
- 8:04Speaker 1: the middle of the open so they can keep the
- 8:07Speaker 1: mess in the back.
- 8:07Speaker 3: And you know, that sounds like, because you're talking about
- 8:09Speaker 3: a number of people that you're entertaining for Thanksgiving, Rich,
- 8:11Speaker 3: that sounds like the kind of place would be perfect
- 8:14Speaker 3: for you. Well, yeah, it's a little big for just
- 8:16Speaker 3: Sarah and I, but you have a lot of guests
- 8:19Speaker 3: that we do a couple times a year.
- 8:21Speaker 4: We'll do that.
- 8:21Speaker 1: So and then we have our friend's house in Rosehill
- 8:25Speaker 1: Acres in Scott Depot that's seventy five points out of
- 8:27Speaker 1: you that's under contract.
- 8:28Speaker 4: It's kind of contingency on it.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Those so still looking for you know, the right buyery
- 8:32Speaker 1: will still have time to get into that house at
- 8:34Speaker 1: the top of Rosehill Acres. This house is also Giants
- 8:37Speaker 1: fifty six hundred square feet, has six bedrooms and six baths.
- 8:42Speaker 1: It has a twenty three hundred square foot basement that
- 8:45Speaker 1: doesn't it's not included in the fifty six hundred. Has
- 8:48Speaker 1: a full gem down there in asauna. It's it's just
- 8:50Speaker 1: immaculate down there, and just you can turn that part
- 8:54Speaker 1: of that basement into whatever you like. Has the pool
- 8:57Speaker 1: and just a beautiful home. Scott Depot for seventy nine
- 9:01Speaker 1: to nine. That house is listed for So I.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Want to go back to a term you use there
- 9:05Speaker 3: because a lot of times you do hear a lot
- 9:07Speaker 3: of terms in real estate contingency. What exactly does that mean?
- 9:10Speaker 3: Explain that to people.
- 9:11Speaker 1: So there are some built in contingencies in the contract
- 9:15Speaker 1: language for many options for buyers and sellers to for protection.
- 9:19Speaker 1: So you know, an easy contingency would be your financing contingency,
- 9:23Speaker 1: so that if you apply for your loan and for
- 9:25Speaker 1: some reason something happens, you know, God forbid you lose
- 9:28Speaker 1: a job, or if you change jobs, or if you
- 9:30Speaker 1: make a purchase during the process, realtors and lenders will
- 9:35Speaker 1: you know, have heart attacks. Don't do that if you've
- 9:38Speaker 1: entered into a any time after you have your pre approval.
- 9:41Speaker 1: We don't want you to enter into any kind of
- 9:43Speaker 1: credit or new credit or transfer of money because it
- 9:47Speaker 1: could change your debt income ratio. So the lenders will
- 9:51Speaker 1: lock you in based on what you tell them at
- 9:53Speaker 1: that time. But that contingency if you were to change jobs,
- 9:57Speaker 1: something happen and your financing doesn't get a proved and
- 10:00Speaker 1: that contingency allows you to cancel the contract without fault. Okay,
- 10:04Speaker 1: the same thing on if you're trying to buy a house.
- 10:06Speaker 1: The House of Rosa Lakers as an example. The buyers
- 10:10Speaker 1: have agreed to buy this house, but only if they
- 10:13Speaker 1: sell the house they're trying to sell. So they have
- 10:16Speaker 1: a contingency on this one to sell their house first,
- 10:18Speaker 1: and if it doesn't sell, then they can cancel their contract.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Talking to a good friend, Rich the realtor of Dave
- 10:23Speaker 3: Island Show in five eighty Live, has brought to you
- 10:25Speaker 3: a part by Pinnacle Consultants. Pinnacle offers a four phase
- 10:27Speaker 3: assessment for your properties, inspection, sampling, an analysis, comprehensive reporting,
- 10:32Speaker 3: the management planning. Check out Pinnacle Corp dot net.
- 10:34Speaker 4: Because what you.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Don't know can hurt you, all right, So here's the
- 10:38Speaker 3: age old question. I know I've asked you this before,
- 10:40Speaker 3: but I'm gonna have you give me an answer to
- 10:42Speaker 3: it again, renting versus buying, because there are a lot
- 10:46Speaker 3: of younger people, and you know, here's what I hear
- 10:50Speaker 3: from a lot of younger people. I mean, I'm a
- 10:52Speaker 3: gen X guy. I guess you're technic your gen X too,
- 10:54Speaker 3: aren't you. I'm right on the border, all right, so.
- 10:58Speaker 4: I still dangle my feet down.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Okay, all right, so but but you know, it used
- 11:03Speaker 3: to be people would say, well, the time you're and
- 11:05Speaker 3: I'm gonna throw out a it's an arbitrary age here.
- 11:08Speaker 3: By the time you're twenty five or twenty six, you
- 11:10Speaker 3: should be able to buy a home or maybe maybe thirty.
- 11:12Speaker 3: I'll just up ato thirty. That's what they used to say.
- 11:15Speaker 3: I hear from a lot of young people, though, that
- 11:17Speaker 3: have full time jobs, college educated or trade school educate. Well,
- 11:22Speaker 3: you know, they have an education of some sort that
- 11:24Speaker 3: say that there's no way that they could possibly buy
- 11:26Speaker 3: a house today because they're more expensive when you even
- 11:31Speaker 3: when you factor in everything, you know, as far as
- 11:34Speaker 3: inflation whatever, that they're more expensive now than what they
- 11:36Speaker 3: would have been twenty thirty years ago. To that you
- 11:38Speaker 3: would say to what young person.
- 11:40Speaker 4: I think everybody's situation is slightly different. One of those.
- 11:43Speaker 1: This is going to sound a little politically correct, but
- 11:46Speaker 1: to each it's not. It's not a one size fit
- 11:49Speaker 1: all scenarios. So I've sold homes to twenty year olds
- 11:52Speaker 1: who have their act together, have a solid job, have
- 11:55Speaker 1: a good work history, they're credit as solid, and they
- 11:58Speaker 1: can buy a house. I mean, that's just how that.
- 12:00Speaker 1: And then I've talked to thirty year olds who have
- 12:02Speaker 1: a hard time. Typically it comes down to your debt
- 12:05Speaker 1: to income ratio. But you know, renting can be an
- 12:09Speaker 1: option for some people. It might be the right thing
- 12:11Speaker 1: to do if you don't have a little bit of
- 12:14Speaker 1: a nest egg. If homeowners need to have a little
- 12:17Speaker 1: bit of a nest egg in case something happens through
- 12:19Speaker 1: the house, you know if you're and it does, trust me,
- 12:22Speaker 1: it does, so be prepared for that now it can
- 12:25Speaker 1: have You know, I'm not just a realtor. I'm you know,
- 12:27Speaker 1: I'm a dad and a grandfather, and I'm going to
- 12:30Speaker 1: give advice to my children that you know, if you
- 12:32Speaker 1: can get into a home, to buy a home, it's
- 12:34Speaker 1: it's still the best investment that you can make. Our
- 12:37Speaker 1: friend Travis would not agree, but we know, we know
- 12:40Speaker 1: that it is. And but you have to be able
- 12:42Speaker 1: to afford it. You could get into a homeownership and
- 12:45Speaker 1: then let that really bankrupt you, you know, if you're
- 12:48Speaker 1: not prepared for what could happen. So sometimes renting is
- 12:51Speaker 1: the right option for young people. I think sometimes the
- 12:54Speaker 1: younger folks are looking for they're a little afraid of
- 12:57Speaker 1: what's you know, the thirty year more can be and
- 12:59Speaker 1: commit to something what that seems like that's a long time,
- 13:03Speaker 1: even though they're probably not going to pay that thirty
- 13:05Speaker 1: year loan off the statistics say they want they're going
- 13:08Speaker 1: to sell the house, they're going to move on, they're
- 13:10Speaker 1: going to engage in another one, you know, and gosh,
- 13:13Speaker 1: they're talking about a fifty year loan now. So and
- 13:17Speaker 1: you know that comes up from time to time. Now too,
- 13:19Speaker 1: is what do I think about that? I'm like, you know,
- 13:21Speaker 1: it's an option. I would never recommend it, but it's
- 13:24Speaker 1: an option for people. And you know, so is the
- 13:27Speaker 1: eighty four month loan on a car. You know, it's
- 13:30Speaker 1: not the right financial decision, but it might be the
- 13:33Speaker 1: right option for.
- 13:34Speaker 4: That one person.
- 13:34Speaker 3: It was floated around, and I know you're limited what
- 13:37Speaker 3: you can say, and we're going to get you out
- 13:38Speaker 3: of here. But floating around a couple of weeks ago,
- 13:40Speaker 3: there was all this stuff and it was about fifty
- 13:42Speaker 3: year mortgages and things of that nature.
- 13:43Speaker 4: Is that's what I'm referring to you.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Okay, But yeah, renting, renting can be the right area,
- 13:48Speaker 1: But a fifty year mortgage.
- 13:50Speaker 4: I would say no.
- 13:51Speaker 1: I mean, you say what you can well, I would
- 13:55Speaker 1: everybody has. I would tell you to talk to your
- 13:58Speaker 1: financial is fells to find the right place for you.
- 14:02Speaker 4: Get it all right?
- 14:02Speaker 3: We had a quick text here for you, says Dave,
- 14:04Speaker 3: what are richest views on this? Since we are homeowners
- 14:07Speaker 3: are basically renting our house and land because we must
- 14:10Speaker 3: pay property taxes, then shouldn't our government quote unquote landlords
- 14:13Speaker 3: be responsible for all repairs that may be done, especially
- 14:16Speaker 3: since many of us can't afford to do them ourselves anymore.
- 14:19Speaker 3: I mean, we subsidized new housing for others where their
- 14:21Speaker 3: tax dollars, why not have some backed us.
- 14:24Speaker 4: Yeah, so that's not a real estate question. I'm going
- 14:27Speaker 4: to pass on that.
- 14:28Speaker 1: But you know, I wouldn't disagree that when you're paying
- 14:30Speaker 1: property taxes forever on your home.
- 14:32Speaker 4: Do you ever actually out now own your home? You know,
- 14:35Speaker 4: so there's there is that angle of discussion.
- 14:38Speaker 3: On that, all right. Where can people get a hold
- 14:39Speaker 3: of you?
- 14:40Speaker 4: Yeah, so I can be reached directly.
- 14:42Speaker 1: I'm at three oh four nine three two seven four

- 18:22Speaker 3: How are you doing doing well? Happy Thanksgiving?
- 18:24Speaker 9: Thanksgiving to you.
- 18:25Speaker 3: I'm asking everybody one question before we get started. Favorite
- 18:28Speaker 3: Thanksgiving dish.
- 18:31Speaker 9: If I'm at my mom's house, it's the noodles because
- 18:34Speaker 9: she makes the very good noodleska. And if if we're
- 18:37Speaker 9: cooking at our house, it's the dressing.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Okay, but another dressing guy, it's me. It's it's it's
- 18:43Speaker 3: just as good of not better than the turkey, good dressing.
- 18:46Speaker 3: It is well.
- 18:46Speaker 9: And we do we do too, right, we do we
- 18:49Speaker 9: do this, We do the inside the bird and out
- 18:51Speaker 9: okay out you know the variety pack for Thanksgiving dinner consumers.
- 18:58Speaker 3: I know you've got kids, all right, so how much
- 19:01Speaker 3: of the thanks Giving to your kids?
- 19:02Speaker 2: Can say?
- 19:03Speaker 10: So?
- 19:03Speaker 9: My daughter who's thirteen, he's eating like an adult since
- 19:07Speaker 9: she was like four.
- 19:08Speaker 4: Good and so like she and that's good on you.
- 19:10Speaker 9: Yeah, so she always has.
- 19:13Speaker 4: Well, I'm fifty.
- 19:14Speaker 9: I'm fifty to fifty because my son eats like he's ten,
- 19:18Speaker 9: and he eats Liz if he is ten months old,
- 19:22Speaker 9: and he'll eat a bunch of rolls.
- 19:25Speaker 4: We had a bunch of rolls, and.
- 19:26Speaker 9: Then we'll probably have to like maybe maybe like a
- 19:28Speaker 9: little bit of mac and cheese. No turkey, no turkey,
- 19:31Speaker 9: no dressing, no mashed potatoes. Like he I've never never heard.
- 19:35Speaker 3: Of a kid that doesn't like mashed potatoes.
- 19:37Speaker 9: He's a big eater of like certain things. Okay, it's
- 19:42Speaker 9: like you know what I mean. Yeah, there's just like
- 19:44Speaker 9: you know, he eats like a tea. I should I
- 19:45Speaker 9: say he's ten months. He eats like a teenager. It's
- 19:47Speaker 9: like pizza, cheeseburgers, now, you know what I mean. Like,
- 19:50Speaker 9: so he's a big eater, but he doesn't.
- 19:53Speaker 3: It's because I was starting to say, if all of
- 19:54Speaker 3: your giving him is like rolls and stuff like that,
- 19:57Speaker 3: this is how CPS gets involved.
- 19:58Speaker 4: Great, Okay, well we don't want to make you. He
- 20:00Speaker 4: does eat other things.
- 20:01Speaker 9: He does not have an overly sophisticated palace. But my daughter,
- 20:06Speaker 9: she's like salad and salmon, like she's the whole deal.
- 20:09Speaker 3: I don't recall a time ever in my life that
- 20:13Speaker 3: I didn't eat everything.
- 20:15Speaker 4: I mean, there's like two food.
- 20:17Speaker 9: There's like a couple of things that I remember not
- 20:19Speaker 9: liking as a kid that I like now that that happens.
- 20:22Speaker 9: And then there's a couple of things now Like every
- 20:24Speaker 9: once in a while, I get something where I'm like,
- 20:26Speaker 9: I really don't like Cranberyce.
- 20:28Speaker 4: I'm not a crane a huge fan, but I'm not.
- 20:31Speaker 9: Yeah, I'm kind of the same way, Like I don't
- 20:32Speaker 9: like if somebody like you have to.
- 20:34Speaker 4: Do this, I would do it.
- 20:36Speaker 9: Yeah, Like if it's like I have the choice to
- 20:38Speaker 9: not make it and put it out there.
- 20:40Speaker 3: I'm not gonna make it the same. I mean, I'll
- 20:41Speaker 3: eat it if it's there, but I'm not a big fan.
- 20:43Speaker 3: All right, So what's on your mind, what's good to
- 20:45Speaker 3: what's what's keeping that mind active these days?
- 20:48Speaker 9: You know, I've been been pretty busy the last few months,
- 20:52Speaker 9: you know, recruiting people to run for state legislature around
- 20:55Speaker 9: the state, essentially recruiting people to beat the people that
- 21:00Speaker 9: we elected last time, which is something you have to
- 21:03Speaker 9: do about every like decade. You're like, oh my gosh,
- 21:06Speaker 9: I made a mistake. H And there's always red flags
- 21:10Speaker 9: with those candidates, right, but you're like, you know somebody,
- 21:13Speaker 9: it'll be like, oh, I know her dad, or oh
- 21:16Speaker 9: I'm buddies with her. You know, I'm buddies with that guy,
- 21:19Speaker 9: and it'll be fine. I'll talk to him. It'll you know,
- 21:21Speaker 9: he's my buddy. We'll get him on the right path.
- 21:23Speaker 9: And when you're making those sort of justifications and excuses
- 21:27Speaker 9: like during the campaign, you pretty much should know that
- 21:30Speaker 9: it's not going to go well. And we were doing
- 21:34Speaker 9: a lot of that over the last couple of cycles.
- 21:35Speaker 9: And you know, you just got to find good people, right,
- 21:38Speaker 9: You got to find you know, if if the issues
- 21:41Speaker 9: you want to talk about or and see promoted our
- 21:45Speaker 9: job creation, infrastructure, you know, improvements to healthcare education. You've
- 21:51Speaker 9: got to find people that are that have a professional background,
- 21:55Speaker 9: that have a small business, that have a you know, lawyers, doctors,
- 21:59Speaker 9: I mean, and you sort of need all of that,
- 22:04Speaker 9: you know, you sort of need all that out there,
- 22:06Speaker 9: and that all of the different kinds of those those
- 22:10Speaker 9: types of people on the team, right and and we
- 22:15Speaker 9: and we sort of we had that a decade ago
- 22:17Speaker 9: when we first took over. You know, I ran you know,
- 22:19Speaker 9: most of the campaigns to take over the State Senate
- 22:22Speaker 9: back in twenty fourteen, and you know, and people stick
- 22:25Speaker 9: around for four years, six years, eight years, and then
- 22:28Speaker 9: they kind of move on and you know, and as
- 22:30Speaker 9: we kind of repopulated the super majority in the State Senate,
- 22:36Speaker 9: you know, the quality is the quantity increase, the quality decreased.
- 22:40Speaker 9: And so I think noubt. You know, the focus this
- 22:42Speaker 9: year has been, Hey, let's just really spend some time
- 22:45Speaker 9: going out and try to find some people that have
- 22:47Speaker 9: been you know, successful in their lives and you know,
- 22:50Speaker 9: asked them to come and be part of the team
- 22:52Speaker 9: to get things back on track.
- 22:55Speaker 3: It's interesting to me that we're having this discussion about
- 22:58Speaker 3: the Republican Party, Cause go back twenty years we were
- 23:02Speaker 3: having this discussion about the Democratic Party.
- 23:04Speaker 9: It's what happens when you get total one party rule though, right,
- 23:08Speaker 9: Because then what's happened in West Virginia And you and
- 23:10Speaker 9: I have talked about this before.
- 23:12Speaker 4: I think we talked about it over.
- 23:13Speaker 9: The summer, but you know, there's been three waves of
- 23:17Speaker 9: Democrats leaving the Democratic Party in West Virginia and becoming Republicans.
- 23:22Speaker 9: The first wave was around two thousand, right, it was like,
- 23:25Speaker 9: you know, kind of post Clinton al Gore. They were,
- 23:28Speaker 9: you know, the national Democrats were really starting to get
- 23:31Speaker 9: pretty extreme on climate change and some other issues like that,
- 23:35Speaker 9: and there were a good number of people that turned Republican.
- 23:37Speaker 9: Then you know, that's you know, we elected George Bush
- 23:41Speaker 9: we in West Virginia that year. You know, Shelim Moore
- 23:44Speaker 9: Capito was elected to the Congress. And then it was
- 23:47Speaker 9: sort of the next wave in like twenty ten. You know,
- 23:51Speaker 9: it was the Tea Party stuff. You know, Obama was
- 23:54Speaker 9: had Obamacare and the War on Cole and just you know,
- 23:57Speaker 9: this growth explosion in government, the size and scope of government,
- 24:01Speaker 9: the federal government, and you had a wave come over
- 24:03Speaker 9: then and then Trump came along, right and like you know,
- 24:08Speaker 9: fifteen sixteen, and you had some people turning Republican, but
- 24:12Speaker 9: it wasn't really a ton. The next wave actually came
- 24:16Speaker 9: during the during the Biden administration. And those are the
- 24:23Speaker 9: folks that you know, that's a lot of the current
- 24:26Speaker 9: Republican Party now, that last wave, a lot of the
- 24:29Speaker 9: folks that are vocal in this current legislature, a lot
- 24:32Speaker 9: of former Democrats. You know, these are big government, you know,
- 24:36Speaker 9: tax and spend sort of social socioeconomically, they're economic liberals, right,
- 24:43Speaker 9: they're Democrats, right. They they want a big government, they
- 24:46Speaker 9: want the handouts, they want the stuff like that. But
- 24:49Speaker 9: they're they the trans stuff, the boys and girls sports,
- 24:55Speaker 9: things like that that the National Democrats were pushing sort
- 24:58Speaker 9: of forced them out of the party, you know what
- 24:59Speaker 9: I mean. And so they've become Republicans. And so that's
- 25:04Speaker 9: why you saw over the last couple of years this
- 25:07Speaker 9: real focus on the social issues because all of the
- 25:09Speaker 9: new members of our party, that's what they cared about.
- 25:12Speaker 9: And what we didn't do was sort of make them
- 25:14Speaker 9: assimilate to small government, lower taxes. You know, personal responsibility.
- 25:21Speaker 9: And I think, you know now that the focus is
- 25:24Speaker 9: sort of a way. I think that this upcoming election
- 25:27Speaker 9: is going to be on the economy, right, I mean,
- 25:29Speaker 9: people are talking about that seems to be the key word, affordability,
- 25:33Speaker 9: you know, and what are the things that make things
- 25:35Speaker 9: more affordable, right like having a job, getting paid more
- 25:38Speaker 9: at your job, you know, having more jobs, you know,
- 25:40Speaker 9: and things like that will help those situations, you know,
- 25:44Speaker 9: you know, doing things to reduce consumer costs your food bill,
- 25:48Speaker 9: you know, your your grocery bill, your electric bill, your
- 25:50Speaker 9: gasoline bill, like those are things that help control costs.
- 25:54Speaker 9: And most of the ideas that these new Republicans and
- 25:58Speaker 9: I'm you know, I know, we don't have the video
- 26:00Speaker 9: they're quote using air quotes under Republicans here, you know,
- 26:04Speaker 9: they were focused on that stuff. And I think they're
- 26:06Speaker 9: you know, and they're trying to run campaigns around the
- 26:11Speaker 9: issues that happened in the last couple of cycles, you know,
- 26:14Speaker 9: And so I think that this upcoming election is going
- 26:17Speaker 9: to be about those issues. And that's fortuitous for those
- 26:22Speaker 9: of us that want to see change in Charleston because
- 26:24Speaker 9: that's the new group of you know, Republican candidates are
- 26:29Speaker 9: people that are going to be focused on those economic issues.

- 27:00Speaker 3: about Jim Justice coming back to round for governor.
- 27:03Speaker 9: I've heard that he definitely wants to do it, right,
- 27:05Speaker 9: I mean, I think he I don't think it's a
- 27:08Speaker 9: big surprise that he doesn't love DC. Right, Like, if
- 27:11Speaker 9: you're sort of that executive guy that really liked being governor,
- 27:15Speaker 9: that really you know, that has your own business all
- 27:19Speaker 9: of a sudden getting thrown over there and you're one
- 27:22Speaker 9: of one hundred, you know, he doesn't he didn't buy
- 27:25Speaker 9: a house in DC, right, He's still kind of commuting
- 27:28Speaker 9: back and forth.
- 27:28Speaker 4: I mean, that's that's it.
- 27:30Speaker 9: That would take a toll on a younger, you know,
- 27:34Speaker 9: more fit person, And so I think that's hard on him.
- 27:40Speaker 4: But I think he really liked being governor too. I
- 27:42Speaker 4: think the I think.
- 27:43Speaker 9: That the twist on it is just going to be
- 27:46Speaker 9: his age and health. Right, I mean, because he's not
- 27:49Speaker 9: overly young now and we're.
- 27:51Speaker 3: Talking you know a little over two years from now. Yeah,
- 27:55Speaker 3: it'll be a little while now.
- 27:56Speaker 9: Look, I say all that thinking that's what people said
- 27:59Speaker 9: about him when he got elected the first time as governor. Right,
- 28:02Speaker 9: you know, how long is his health gonna stand up?
- 28:04Speaker 4: Well? Here he is going to DC.
- 28:06Speaker 3: Every day, and you know, and and Greg his tax
- 28:08Speaker 3: issues and issues of paying bills, and there was another
- 28:10Speaker 3: story that broke nationally over this and he's paying back
- 28:13Speaker 3: five million dollars. We ride about a WV mentronews dot com.
- 28:16Speaker 3: It doesn't seem to matter to people.
- 28:18Speaker 9: Look as long as he looked. West Virginians sent Jim
- 28:24Speaker 9: Justice to Washington, d C. To support Donald Trump's presidency.
- 28:28Speaker 9: And he's doing that. And so that's what they sent
- 28:31Speaker 9: him to do. That's what he's doing now. I say
- 28:34Speaker 9: that Trump is done in well, probably done in four years.
- 28:38Speaker 4: Don't get that started. I'm just saying it's I mean,
- 28:40Speaker 4: it's a thing.
- 28:41Speaker 9: It's not you know, it's probably he's gonna run again,
- 28:45Speaker 9: probably probably.
- 28:46Speaker 4: You know, he's just like stirring the podca.
- 28:50Speaker 9: I don't, I don't. I mean, we don't. I don't know.
- 28:52Speaker 9: I don't know. I mean, I don't know. So, I mean,
- 28:57Speaker 9: I know he's not supposed to be able to.
- 29:00Speaker 4: Anyway. So why why are you the way you are? Anyway?
- 29:09Speaker 9: I think so when Trump's if and when Trump is gone,
- 29:13Speaker 9: I just don't. Justice doesn't like doing it anyway. He's
- 29:16Speaker 9: gonna like it even less, right, and so what does
- 29:21Speaker 9: I mean he has to run for reelection, right and
- 29:23Speaker 9: so between But as you said, there's a couple of years.
- 29:26Speaker 9: So look, if that election were today, Jim Justice would
- 29:29Speaker 9: win pretty you know, they gonna beat him by forty
- 29:32Speaker 9: or anything. But I mean he'd be between the two
- 29:34Speaker 9: of them, Yeah, between the two of them. It'd be
- 29:35Speaker 9: a pretty sign.
- 29:36Speaker 3: And then where do you factor Larry Pack and all this,
- 29:38Speaker 3: because well, look our Treasurer Larry Pack's.
- 29:41Speaker 9: Close to Jim Justice. I mean, if Jim Justice runs
- 29:44Speaker 9: for that, he doesn't.
- 29:45Speaker 4: I agree.
- 29:46Speaker 9: They're on the same page of this stuff, and so
- 29:49Speaker 9: I think it you know, as of right now, it
- 29:50Speaker 9: looks like it'll be one or the other, you know,
- 29:53Speaker 9: but look, it's it's a couple of years, right And
- 29:55Speaker 9: it's not that you know, it's not that Morrissey's it's
- 30:00Speaker 9: it's not that he has low favorability.
- 30:01Speaker 4: I mean it's lower.
- 30:02Speaker 9: Than Justice, it's lower than Chilly Moore capitot or something.
- 30:05Speaker 4: But it's not like it's terrible.
- 30:07Speaker 9: His unfavorabilities or his unfavorables are a little bit higher
- 30:10Speaker 9: than probably what you would want an early governor's to be.
- 30:13Speaker 9: But he's got a couple of years to you know, Look,
- 30:16Speaker 9: he goes in and gets some legislative wins either this
- 30:18Speaker 9: year or next year. You know, he can, he can.
- 30:22Speaker 9: I mean, it's not like it's it'll be competitive, you
- 30:25Speaker 9: know what I mean. I don't think it's going to
- 30:26Speaker 9: be anything like that.
- 30:27Speaker 3: And you know, raising funds for Patrick Morrisey has never
- 30:30Speaker 3: really been a problem.
- 30:31Speaker 9: He's aggressive with it, you know, he's aggressive with it.
- 30:33Speaker 9: It's you know, probably the thing that he does best.
- 30:36Speaker 9: You know, he's aggressive with it. He's a hard campaigner.
- 30:39Speaker 9: You know, so I don't that's going to be competitive
- 30:42Speaker 9: either way. Well, I say it's competitive in a in
- 30:46Speaker 9: a one on one situation.
- 30:47Speaker 11: You know.
- 30:48Speaker 9: Morrisey though, has found ways to get in these three
- 30:51Speaker 9: and four person races that he can pull off a
- 30:53Speaker 9: primary win. You know, so I think it'll be uh,
- 30:59Speaker 9: you know, but but look, you know, Morrisey's got time too.
- 31:02Speaker 9: I mean, you know, we didn't have a very good
- 31:03Speaker 9: legislative session past time. Morrisey had a pretty you know,
- 31:06Speaker 9: the legislative session was really bad because of the State Senate.
- 31:09Speaker 9: I mean, there's just no leadership there. It's an absolute clown.
- 31:12Speaker 4: Show, absolute clown show. Greg.
- 31:14Speaker 3: Yes, that's that's that's pretty generous.
- 31:18Speaker 9: I was going to say that's pretty extremely well, I
- 31:20Speaker 9: think it's I think it's generous of a description of
- 31:22Speaker 9: how it is and is it Is it going to.
- 31:24Speaker 4: Get any better?
- 31:25Speaker 3: Not this site, not this time is a fault line.
- 31:29Speaker 9: Uh leadership, you know, it's it's uh, you know, Randy
- 31:34Speaker 9: Smith does not have control of the State Senate. Patricia
- 31:37Speaker 9: Record does, and that that dysfunction within the State Senate
- 31:41Speaker 9: leadership is what's caused you to have you know, uh,
- 31:44Speaker 9: you've got a bunch of either radicals or incompetence that
- 31:46Speaker 9: are in leadership, and uh, it's it's really it's terrible,
- 31:50Speaker 9: and each change badly, uh, you know, and then the
- 31:53Speaker 9: House of Delegates, you know, they're left in the situation
- 31:56Speaker 9: or just having to kill the bad stuff that comes
- 31:57Speaker 9: over from the Senate. We're hoping to see more kind
- 32:00Speaker 9: of positive you know, movement from some stuff out of
- 32:03Speaker 9: them this time to get you know, last time, it
- 32:05Speaker 9: was like, oh my gosh, we can go do all
- 32:06Speaker 9: this work to pass something and the Senate won't do
- 32:08Speaker 9: it anyway. You still got to go through the motions
- 32:11Speaker 9: with that, right, I mean, you've got to put that
- 32:12Speaker 9: good stuff over there and let them vote on it
- 32:14Speaker 9: one way or another. And so hopefully we'll see more
- 32:17Speaker 9: of that this time. You know, Morrissey had a pretty
- 32:19Speaker 9: modest agenda last time, which he got a lot.
- 32:20Speaker 4: Of it passed.
- 32:22Speaker 9: You know, so he had two or three things that
- 32:23Speaker 9: were that were real positive. But I think Morrissey's gonna
- 32:27Speaker 9: need a bigger agenda this time around.
- 32:29Speaker 12: Uh.
- 32:29Speaker 9: You know, you're hearing a lot of rumors of a
- 32:30Speaker 9: big time you know, tax bill. I don't know the
- 32:34Speaker 9: details of that at all. You hear different stuff, so
- 32:36Speaker 9: he'd orally don't know what to believe. But I think
- 32:38Speaker 9: that's you know, it looks like that's going to be
- 32:40Speaker 9: something that's going to be his big proposal, and uh,
- 32:43Speaker 9: you know, we'll see what he offers up.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Tex says, man, you almost get paid for every gop
- 32:48Speaker 3: MAGA talking point. Larry Pack will be justice and Morrissey
- 32:51Speaker 3: walking away. He actually has a brain.
- 32:55Speaker 9: Yeah, but Larry's not going to run against Justice. You know,
- 32:57Speaker 9: I'm looking at you know, those of us. You know,
- 33:00Speaker 9: Larry friends a close personal friend or Larry Pack's a
- 33:03Speaker 9: close personal friend of mine. I really like Larry Pack.
- 33:06Speaker 4: I'm for him.
- 33:07Speaker 9: Uh you know, I'm for Larry as much as you
- 33:09Speaker 9: can be for Larry. Uh, you know, I'm just you know,
- 33:12Speaker 9: it's just my perception of where, you know, it's sort
- 33:15Speaker 9: of my perception of kind of where this is going
- 33:17Speaker 9: to go.
- 33:17Speaker 3: Cake's done in the oven by way, Mike Meadows, not
- 33:21Speaker 3: my cake, Not my cake.
- 33:23Speaker 4: TJ Meadows is in here, you know, do a little
- 33:25Speaker 4: work before talk line. Have you ever been on the radio.
- 33:27Speaker 3: Before, TJ. I'm just asking it's all good, it's good.
- 33:31Speaker 4: Way to wrap it up. Go ahead, give me, give
- 33:33Speaker 4: them another minute. What's on your mind?
- 33:34Speaker 9: Go ahead, Look, I think we've you know, next time
- 33:38Speaker 9: I come on, we can kind of get more into
- 33:39Speaker 9: the weeds on the specifics of the state legislative races. Uh.
- 33:42Speaker 9: You know, there's going to be a lot of competitive
- 33:45Speaker 9: races here locally in the couple House of Delegate races,
- 33:48Speaker 9: but definitely a bunch of state senate races. And give
- 33:50Speaker 9: us a little give us a quick preview. Go ahead,
- 33:52Speaker 9: and look, I think the you know, probably the one.
- 33:55Speaker 9: You've got a three way race with that uh, doctor
- 33:59Speaker 9: Steve Eschenou. Or you've got Kevin Bartlett, who was the
- 34:01Speaker 9: appointed state senator by Morrissey, who's a pastor in the
- 34:05Speaker 9: Sistemville area. Then you've got Lance Wheeler, the county commissioner here.
- 34:09Speaker 9: That'll be a real competitive one. But you know, I
- 34:11Speaker 9: think that's one that if you look at the background
- 34:13Speaker 9: for these guys, right, I mean you've got Eschenauer, who's
- 34:15Speaker 9: this like four time combat deployment veteran, He's decades of
- 34:20Speaker 9: public health experience. He's a small business owner with that
- 34:24Speaker 9: hunting preserve he has out there. You know, Bartlett's obviously
- 34:28Speaker 9: a pastor. He'll be focused on the social issue stuff.
- 34:30Speaker 9: And then Wheeler was a county commissioner. You know, I
- 34:33Speaker 9: don't I don't really know what his full time job was.
- 34:36Speaker 9: I guess his part time jobs being Silango's assistant for
- 34:39Speaker 9: the last six years, so that was something that he did.
- 34:43Speaker 9: So I guess we'll see, you know, and I think
- 34:45Speaker 9: that's one that you know, the social issue folks are
- 34:47Speaker 9: going to be for Bartlett, the former Democrat sort of
- 34:50Speaker 9: big government liberals will be for Wheeler. You know, he
- 34:54Speaker 9: took almost about half of the money that he praised
- 34:56Speaker 9: with some Democrat trial lawyers. And then Eschenouer will be
- 34:59Speaker 9: the one that gets the votes from people that are
- 35:01Speaker 9: focused on you know, jobs and infrastructure.
- 35:03Speaker 3: All right, well, let's have you on again soon because
- 35:04Speaker 3: we're just like scratching the surface here. Okay, sounds good, buddy,

- 38:24Speaker 3: Justice should introduce legislation as a senator to do away
- 38:26Speaker 3: with all taxes. If the sitting senator doesn't pay taxes,
- 38:30Speaker 3: why should anyone else? Tex says, we pay Congress ninety
- 38:34Speaker 3: three million, one hundred and thirty two thousand dollars a
- 38:36Speaker 3: year to do nothing but run for office. I don't
- 38:38Speaker 3: agree with Trump, but he's the only one doing anything
- 38:40Speaker 3: and he donates his salary, says a texture. Texas in
- 38:44Speaker 3: regards to favorite side, shocked that nobody ever says deviled
- 38:47Speaker 3: eggs are gone within five minutes at our house. Lol,
- 38:50Speaker 3: same at my house, U. Tex says, that's the difference.
- 38:54Speaker 3: Greg said Larry is a friend. TDS Meltdowner refused to
- 38:59Speaker 3: see the individual person behind the party. That's where the
- 39:01Speaker 3: problem is, says a texture. Is Greg recruiting Larry Pactor
- 39:07Speaker 3: run against Pat Morrissey, Well, I'll say he said he's
- 39:10Speaker 3: one hundred percent behind Larry Pack I will say that,
- 39:12Speaker 3: Tex says, Well, Tyson closed a beef planet in Nebraska.
- 39:15Speaker 3: That's good to devastate the local community. The closure definitely
- 39:17Speaker 3: isn't due to tariffs, immigrant snets, immigrant snatchings, or terrible
- 39:21Speaker 3: agricultural policies. Now it's most likely a ARC or Chuck
- 39:24Speaker 3: Schumer's fault. Stupid libs. They had a little sarcasm there.
- 39:29Speaker 3: How many of the clowns in the show did Greg
- 39:30Speaker 3: help get elected? Says a texture Tex says Wheeler is
- 39:34Speaker 3: Selango's assistant. Lol, Lance have must have hurt Greggy Pooh's feeling.
- 39:39Speaker 3: Somebody who never hurts anybody's feelings is our buddy. Rick

- 39:48Speaker 4: You're good people. Well I appreciate that, so are you, sir?
- 39:50Speaker 3: Yeah, don't tell anybody. I got a reputation, right all right?
- 39:52Speaker 4: So how you doing? Man?
- 39:54Speaker 3: Favorite favorite Thanksgiving side?
- 39:57Speaker 15: Your favorite part of the me Deviled eggs? I think
- 40:00Speaker 15: that those are. I mean I could eat like eight
- 40:03Speaker 15: of them in a setting.
- 40:04Speaker 3: My wife makes siracha deviled eggs.
- 40:06Speaker 4: She would be my best friend. I need spy. If
- 40:09Speaker 4: you're listening. Rick Cavnor wants to eggs.
- 40:11Speaker 15: We met ten years ago. You remember me or not,
- 40:13Speaker 15: But now that I know you, you make sir Devil Diggs.
- 40:16Speaker 3: So you're gonna be shown up at my house going, hey, Dave,
- 40:18Speaker 3: I remember I met you ten years ago.
- 40:20Speaker 4: I borrowed a quarter. I just wanted to pay it
- 40:23Speaker 4: back in person. Yeah right right. We hung out looking
- 40:25Speaker 4: Fetteville during the leadership or something. They tell me.
- 40:27Speaker 3: I don't remember it all right, So Small Business Saturday.
- 40:32Speaker 15: Yeah, it's coming up, I mean this time of year.
- 40:35Speaker 15: I was just while you were reading those that I
- 40:36Speaker 15: was just kind of like thinking about this whole year.
- 40:38Speaker 4: Of course you were.
- 40:39Speaker 15: You were our announcer for Their Night Awards a couple
- 40:41Speaker 15: of weeks ago, and I was thinking about that and
- 40:43Speaker 15: sort of like looking back on the year and just realizing, like,
- 40:46Speaker 15: this is one of my favorite times a year, right,
- 40:47Speaker 15: because like finally things that they sort of slow down
- 40:50Speaker 15: right in some way.
- 40:51Speaker 4: For us at least at the office.
- 40:53Speaker 15: But but we also get this really awesome opportunity to
- 40:57Speaker 15: celebrate local business, like small business right with everything going
- 41:00Speaker 15: on downtown this coming weekend, between with the light show,
- 41:04Speaker 15: with l Like the Night, Holly Jolly Browley, everything else happening,
- 41:09Speaker 15: it's such a huge opportunity for folks. Thousands upon thousands
- 41:13Speaker 15: of people come into the urban core of Charleston to
- 41:17Speaker 15: enjoy these events. But there are a ton of really
- 41:20Speaker 15: great small businesses that are offering you know, products and
- 41:23Speaker 15: services the entire weekend, the entire.
- 41:25Speaker 4: Week all the time.
- 41:27Speaker 15: But for these folks that may not ever really get
- 41:29Speaker 15: to come to Charleston, and don't they don't come often.
- 41:31Speaker 15: This is a perfect time to shine that spotlight on them.
- 41:34Speaker 15: This is just a great time of year. I genuinely
- 41:36Speaker 15: enjoy it. I know that's probably a nerdy of me.
- 41:38Speaker 3: But hey, look, look and and and I hear all
- 41:41Speaker 3: the time, and I know you hear this, and again
- 41:42Speaker 3: we're talking Rick Cabint from Charleston Urban Works.
- 41:44Speaker 4: I hear this all the time.
- 41:45Speaker 2: Rick.
- 41:45Speaker 4: People will say, I would like to shop.
- 41:47Speaker 3: In Charleston, but there's nothing here, and I want to say, uh,
- 41:51Speaker 3: w tf, I mean, are you serious?
- 41:53Speaker 4: Right now?
- 41:54Speaker 15: I think I think that obviously I've thought a lot
- 41:57Speaker 15: about this, and I was just in a conversation the
- 41:58Speaker 15: other day. I mean, the situation with the Town Center
- 42:01Speaker 15: mall is obviously unfortunate.
- 42:02Speaker 2: Right.
- 42:03Speaker 15: I grew up going to that mall, worked in that mall.
- 42:06Speaker 15: Uh and I worked at Camelot Music. Oh yeah, that
- 42:09Speaker 15: was my first job.
- 42:11Speaker 4: I loved it. Yeah, but you know, I get it.
- 42:15Speaker 15: And in the perception because of that, because there's you know,
- 42:18Speaker 15: several retail outlets in that in that mall, the perception
- 42:21Speaker 15: can be that there isn't a lot of quote a
- 42:23Speaker 15: lot of quote unquote shopping to do in downtown, but
- 42:26Speaker 15: there really is. There's a lot, a lot of really
- 42:29Speaker 15: great places, locally owned places. And that's the other thing
- 42:32Speaker 15: that you got to remember. And that's why we started
- 42:33Speaker 15: our passport card debit card program, is because we want
- 42:36Speaker 15: to not only shine a spotlight on all of these
- 42:38Speaker 15: really wonderful local businesses throughout our districts, but also remind
- 42:43Speaker 15: folks that anytime they're swiping that card in time, they're
- 42:45Speaker 15: spending money in these in the In this these local businesses,
- 42:49Speaker 15: they are they are promoting the local economy. They are
- 42:53Speaker 15: reinvesting back into in some small way every single time
- 42:56Speaker 15: they do that back into their local economy. So I
- 42:58Speaker 15: mean Small Business Saturday for me is a huge deal
- 43:00Speaker 15: because it's a perfect time for a lot of the
- 43:02Speaker 15: businesses participate. They've run a lot of specials, they do
- 43:04Speaker 15: a lot of really great stuff to get people in
- 43:06Speaker 15: their stores and their restaurants and their pubs, and I
- 43:09Speaker 15: think we should do all we can to support them.
- 43:11Speaker 3: You mentioned Charleston Urban Works in the Urban Nighte Awards.
- 43:15Speaker 3: We did a coupleanis to command thank you for the
- 43:17Speaker 3: opportunity fancy that Woody Woods and I have had a
- 43:20Speaker 3: ball doing that and it was it was great. I
- 43:23Speaker 3: mean it really really was. It was a packed house
- 43:25Speaker 3: there and to see everybody coming together like that to
- 43:28Speaker 3: celebrate these small businesses in Charleston and not just the businesses,
- 43:31Speaker 3: but I mean people that give back to the community
- 43:33Speaker 3: things that it was awesome. I appreciate the opportunity. Hey,
- 43:35Speaker 3: we ran a little bit long with the grave, but
- 43:36Speaker 3: can you hang out with me? I want to take
- 43:37Speaker 3: a break and we'll be back in just a minute.

- 45:54Speaker 13: cut corners on your credit card security, putting your personal

- 46:01Speaker 13: to inflate their profits, and liberal Dick Durbin would help
- 46:04Speaker 13: them do it. Tel Senators say no to the megastores

- 46:48Speaker 4: Here we're talking.
- 46:49Speaker 3: About Small Business Saturday and we're talking about the Urban
- 46:52Speaker 3: Ide Awards. But great, great job on you in Lauren
- 46:56Speaker 3: and everybody putting that thing together a couple because it
- 46:58Speaker 3: was fun.
- 46:58Speaker 15: Thank you, you know, it's great, and that really kind
- 47:00Speaker 15: of bleeds into our conversation about small Business Saturday. You know,
- 47:03Speaker 15: the reason we love doing that the verb Night Awards
- 47:05Speaker 15: so much is because it really is a perfect opportunity
- 47:07Speaker 15: to celebrate all the local business not all the local businesses,
- 47:10Speaker 15: but several of them and the people who make Charleston
- 47:13Speaker 15: you know what it is.
- 47:14Speaker 4: And you know, I think.
- 47:17Speaker 15: That whole experience of the air Knight a ward sort
- 47:19Speaker 15: of encapsulates what we want to see happening every single
- 47:22Speaker 15: day on the streets in Charleston, right and what we
- 47:24Speaker 15: want to see happened this this coming Saturday, this weekend
- 47:27Speaker 15: downtown and all throughout the urban corp of Charleston is people.
- 47:31Speaker 15: You know, those cash registers ringing, those folks going into
- 47:34Speaker 15: the Kinship Goods and the one to eighteen, and you
- 47:39Speaker 15: know the even like the bars, like a goat, you know,
- 47:41Speaker 15: stop in at the carpet, get a drink, stop in it, Sam,
- 47:44Speaker 15: stop in it, you know, Fife or Short Story, wherever,
- 47:47Speaker 15: Lee Street, wherever, and just you know, you know, get
- 47:49Speaker 15: a beer, get some food, you know, before on your
- 47:53Speaker 15: way home, you know, grab dinner or whatever the case
- 47:55Speaker 15: may be. Every time you do that, you are reinvesting
- 47:57Speaker 15: in the local economy. And there's there's no easier way
- 48:01Speaker 15: to do that. And whenever you're making your decision where
- 48:04Speaker 15: you want to eat, where you want to buy something,
- 48:05Speaker 15: especially this weekend, do it because there's a lot of
- 48:08Speaker 15: folks do on a lot of really great specials this weekend.
- 48:10Speaker 3: And you know, people, and we can talk town Center
- 48:12Speaker 3: all we want to, and I've talked to I've been
- 48:13Speaker 3: doing this show for five and a half years now,
- 48:16Speaker 3: and at least once or twice a week something comes
- 48:18Speaker 3: up about the town Center, and I get it.
- 48:19Speaker 4: Like you said, it was your first job.
- 48:21Speaker 3: I remember, you know, as a teenager, you know, in
- 48:23Speaker 3: the height of the days, you know, driving from from Logan,
- 48:26Speaker 3: you know, to the town Center. Yeah, but it's not
- 48:29Speaker 3: going to come back like it was before.
- 48:31Speaker 4: Never.
- 48:32Speaker 3: And but but I I guess my and I understand
- 48:34Speaker 3: it is sad, okay, but but I guess my. My
- 48:36Speaker 3: criticism of people that would be like, well, we don't
- 48:39Speaker 3: have shopping in Charleston. As I said, the town Center
- 48:42Speaker 3: wasn't shopping. I mean it was shopping in Charleston and
- 48:44Speaker 3: employed a lot of people. But that money, nine times
- 48:48Speaker 3: out of ten went somewhere else where, says it stays here.
- 48:52Speaker 15: I should of course, yeah, yeah, obviously obviously, but yeah, no, no, yeah,
- 48:56Speaker 15: well and again, and so that's a really good example.
- 48:58Speaker 4: I'm glad you said that.
- 48:59Speaker 15: I mean, there's you know, of course, we're always going
- 49:02Speaker 15: to promote the you know, shopping local and eating local,
- 49:04Speaker 15: actually locally owned places, right, but you know, there is
- 49:10Speaker 15: something to be said about the fact that the that
- 49:12Speaker 15: the even the chains that were in the Town Center Mall,
- 49:15Speaker 15: I mean those leaving.
- 49:15Speaker 4: I think the impact that that.
- 49:18Speaker 15: Had is, you know, there are other sources of revenue
- 49:21Speaker 15: that that occur from any business that opens up in Charleston, right,
- 49:24Speaker 15: regardless if it's a chain or not. But our job
- 49:26Speaker 15: as an organization is to make sure that we are
- 49:28Speaker 15: shining the spotlight on the shopkeepers. I like, that's what
- 49:31Speaker 15: we always call them, the shopkeepers, right, that folks who
- 49:35Speaker 15: you know, they put their bootstraps on. They they're using
- 49:37Speaker 15: nothing but grit and hard work, elbow grease and making
- 49:42Speaker 15: something out of nothing. And we've seen so many some
- 49:45Speaker 15: of the folks that that you saw win awards at
- 49:47Speaker 15: the Erwinight Awards a couple of weeks.
- 49:48Speaker 4: Ago, that those are those folks, that those are those folks.
- 49:51Speaker 15: And the other interesting part the conversations I was having
- 49:54Speaker 15: with folks after the awards were not only was it
- 49:57Speaker 15: great excuse me to hear the stories like when were
- 50:00Speaker 15: you and what you were making the announcements about the
- 50:02Speaker 15: winners as they would go to stage. Not only was
- 50:04Speaker 15: it great to hear more about them, but it opened
- 50:06Speaker 15: my eyes to so many different places that I hadn't
- 50:08Speaker 15: even really been to yet. Like, oh, yeah, Bogies at
- 50:11Speaker 15: the Capitol Market. I got to go check that out. Right,
- 50:14Speaker 15: Like oh, Miss Ruby's Corner Market in the heart of
- 50:16Speaker 15: the West Side, you know, a grocery store right there
- 50:18Speaker 15: in the heart of the West Side. I got to
- 50:19Speaker 15: go check that out. It's so cool to learn about
- 50:21Speaker 15: this place. There's so many stories, yeah, that we can
- 50:24Speaker 15: tell about the hard work of people here in Charleston,
- 50:29Speaker 15: and and they're endless.
- 50:30Speaker 4: The stories are endless.
- 50:31Speaker 15: So again, going back to this weekend, small Business Saturday,
- 50:34Speaker 15: go out and support those those really interesting stories, right,
- 50:37Speaker 15: those stories of starting from nothing and becoming something by
- 50:42Speaker 15: swiping your card at the at the point of sale
- 50:44Speaker 15: when you go buy your next you know whatever, hammer
- 50:47Speaker 15: or drill.
- 50:47Speaker 4: And how do people get those cards? Remind people, well,
- 50:50Speaker 4: I'm when I say card, I mean any car.
- 50:51Speaker 15: Now, we're interested in our Passport Card program, which is
- 50:56Speaker 15: a fully shoped local initiative. If you become a member
- 50:59Speaker 15: at Element, Federal or Credit Union, you can opt to
- 51:03Speaker 15: get the Passport debit cards as your official debit card.
- 51:05Speaker 15: And when you have that card, anytime you shop in
- 51:07Speaker 15: our district. So right now, that's East and Westside. We've
- 51:10Speaker 15: also included downtown as a partnership with the DCA and
- 51:13Speaker 15: here soon we'll be adding all the Kanas City businesses
- 51:15Speaker 15: to that list because we've expanded to Kano City. Anytime
- 51:17Speaker 15: you swipe your card there, that's all you have to do,
- 51:19Speaker 15: is you shop there, you get two percent cash back
- 51:21Speaker 15: very purchase. So that doesn't sound like a lot, but
- 51:25Speaker 15: it adds up pretty quick. Absolutely, And you know that's
- 51:28Speaker 15: one of our one of our ways that we're trying
- 51:31Speaker 15: to incentivize folks to to keep their dollars here locally,
- 51:33Speaker 15: in shop local. So highly recommend you check it out.
- 51:36Speaker 15: You get our website Charleston nurveranworks dot org, click on
- 51:38Speaker 15: the passport card passport debit card link.
- 51:42Speaker 4: It'll take an elements page and you can learn more
- 51:44Speaker 4: about it.
- 51:44Speaker 3: And again, you know, small business Saturday. There's so much
- 51:48Speaker 3: excitement going on in downtown Charleston over the next couple
- 51:51Speaker 3: of days because everybody, every once, everybody gets to their
- 51:52Speaker 3: Thanksgiving turkey and them, you know, Holly Jolly Brawley is
- 51:55Speaker 3: gonna get going. We got light the night over to Ballpark.
- 51:58Speaker 3: The Mayor, i think is going to write the light
- 51:59Speaker 3: Thechristmas Tree and the whole deal and and and then
- 52:02Speaker 3: we have the parade which is coming up next week.
- 52:06Speaker 4: Thanks, so yeah, okay, next to what, I can't remember
- 52:08Speaker 4: the day of the week. I'm sorry.
- 52:08Speaker 3: I think I think it's Thursday, Thursday, and so you
- 52:11Speaker 3: got that going on, and it's it's Christmas time in
- 52:13Speaker 3: the city it is. I will spare you, Rick and
