- 0:01Speaker 1: Stupid sarah that's my name don't wear it up.
- 0:10Speaker 2: You zipped him in there yes thought he would be funny.
- 0:12Speaker 1: A little it was we both were laughing about it
- 0:14Speaker 1: and then i fell asleep sarah i can't breathe that's
- 0:19Speaker 1: on you sarah i can't breathe it's.
- 0:23Speaker 3: On you i did not not intentionally kill him.
- 0:34Speaker 4: This is 42-year-old Sarah Boone, who recorded herself committing a
- 0:38Speaker 4: crime so heinous and so unusual that it caught the
- 0:41Speaker 4: world by storm.
- 0:43Speaker 5: Accused of zipping her boyfriend into a suitcase, then leaving
- 0:48Speaker 5: him to suffocate to death. And then turn around and
- 0:51Speaker 5: film a man while he is struggling to breathe. As
- 0:57Speaker 5: she leaves her lover to die, to die in a suitcase.
- 1:04Speaker 4: Police in Winter Park, Florida were quite familiar with Sarah
- 1:07Speaker 4: Boone and her on-again, off-again boyfriend of approximately three years,
- 1:11Speaker 4: George Torres. Sarah had grown up in Orlando, Florida and
- 1:15Speaker 4: graduated from Edgewater High School in 1996. Little has been
- 1:19Speaker 4: revealed about her youth, though according to her psychologist at
- 1:22Speaker 4: her eventual trial, she had a tumultuous childhood and an
- 1:26Speaker 4: unhealthy relationship with her parents. Despite this, from photos and
- 1:30Speaker 4: video of her early life, she seemed to be a
- 1:33Speaker 4: bright girl. whole life ahead of her. In 2006, she
- 1:37Speaker 4: married her first husband, Brian Boone, and had her son, Lucas,
- 1:40Speaker 4: soon after. According to Brian, their relationship had been less
- 1:44Speaker 4: than ideal. He said that Sarah had a severe alcohol
- 1:48Speaker 4: addiction following the birth of her son, resulting in her
- 1:50Speaker 4: spending many nights at nearby bars until three in the morning.
- 1:54Speaker 4: In addition, there was another big problem brought on when
- 1:57Speaker 4: she drank.
- 1:59Speaker 1: You said when she drinks that she can get physically aggressive.
- 2:02Speaker 6: She can. I mean, she did it to me a
- 2:04Speaker 6: lot where she'd hit me and stuff like that. I mean,
- 2:07Speaker 6: she's tiny.
- 2:07Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 2:08Speaker 6: What do you mean hit, though?
- 2:10Speaker 2: Like, open hand smack you or, like, try and punch you?
- 2:14Speaker 6: Yeah, she'd punch me. I mean, more arms. She many,
- 2:17Speaker 6: many times would use her claws. I mean, scratches on
- 2:20Speaker 6: my neck at times, on my arms. I mean, things
- 2:23Speaker 6: like that where she'd dig with her claws. Okay. I...
- 2:28Speaker 6: The two separated in mid-2016.
- 2:28Speaker 4: According to Brian, this was due to Sarah's infidelity, violence,
- 2:31Speaker 4: and her inability to quit drinking. Prior to their separation,
- 2:55Speaker 4: she was already romantically seeing George Torres, an artist and
- 2:59Speaker 4: father of three from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Following the divorce, Brian
- 3:03Speaker 4: bought Sarah out of their family house, and she moved
- 3:05Speaker 4: into this townhome with George. Though Brian and Sarah had
- 3:09Speaker 4: split custody of their son, Brian told investigators that she
- 3:13Speaker 4: wasn't the most responsible parent. Despite their divorce, Brian continued
- 3:28Speaker 4: to be a refuge for Sarah. His alimony supported her lifestyle,
- 3:32Speaker 4: and for at least the two years prior to 2020,
- 3:35Speaker 4: she wasn't employed. George maintained a job at a local
- 3:38Speaker 4: Ace Hardware, but at the time of his death, the
- 3:41Speaker 4: shop had closed, leaving him without a source of income.
- 3:44Speaker 4: When the couple fought, as they frequently did, Sarah would
- 3:47Speaker 4: go to Brian for money to bail George out of jail.
- 3:50Speaker 4: Both the police and Brian were used to getting calls
- 3:52Speaker 4: from Sarah. But the calls they received on the afternoon
- 3:55Speaker 4: of February 24th, 2020 was absolutely out of the norm,
- 3:59Speaker 4: even for the volatile couple.
- 4:00Speaker 6: 9-1-1, what is the location of the emergency?
- 4:04Speaker 8: 4748 France Court, apartment 3. 4748, what's the street name? France, F-R-A-N-T-V.
- 4:15Speaker 8: And the apartment number? 3. Is this a police or medical?
- 4:21Speaker 8: My boyfriend is dead. Okay, send a line for the
- 4:25Speaker 8: fire department. Do not hang up.
- 4:30Speaker 6: Alright, great. Now tell me exactly what happened there.
- 4:35Speaker 8: My boyfriend and I were playing last night and I
- 4:38Speaker 8: put him in a case and we were playing. Okay.
- 4:41Speaker 8: Like kind of hide and seek kind of thing, so...
- 4:45Speaker 8: I fell asleep, and I woke up, and he was
- 4:48Speaker 8: dead in the suitcase, so I don't know what happened.
- 4:50Speaker 8: I don't know what happened.
- 4:52Speaker 6: Okay, what's your apartment number?
- 4:54Speaker 8: Three.
- 4:56Speaker 6: Apartment three?
- 4:58Speaker 8: Yes, like he had, like, blood coming out of his mouth,
- 5:01Speaker 8: and I don't know if, like, he had, like, an
- 5:02Speaker 8: aneurysm or something.
- 5:04Speaker 6: Right, okay, all right, okay. Listen, we're getting help out there, too.
- 5:07Speaker 6: All right, okay. Okay. Right now? Okay, yeah, listen, we're
- 5:11Speaker 6: on our way out there. You're at 407-716- 8-6-8-4. Okay,
- 5:16Speaker 6: is he hanging from somewhere or what, ma'am?
- 5:18Speaker 8: No, I pulled him out of the suitcase. I tried
- 5:21Speaker 8: giving him CPR.
- 5:23Speaker 6: Okay, so he was in a suitcase?
- 5:26Speaker 8: Yes, and I fell asleep.
- 5:30Speaker 6: Okay, how old is the boyfriend, ma'am? 42-year-old man. All right. Okay,
- 5:35Speaker 6: we're sending help out there. Sheriff's Office, are you out there? Yes, ma'am.
- 5:40Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 5:41Speaker 9: Okay. All right.
- 5:42Speaker 6: Listen to me. Okay. I just need to confirm this.
- 5:45Speaker 6: I understand. I just need to confirm this. Is he
- 5:48Speaker 6: awake at all? Is he conscious at all?
- 5:49Speaker 1: No.
- 5:50Speaker 6: He's purple. Is he breathing?
- 5:53Speaker 8: No.
- 5:54Speaker 1: All right.
- 5:55Speaker 6: I need you to get him on the floor and
- 5:57Speaker 6: flatten his back for me, okay?
- 5:58Speaker 8: I did. I did. I tried giving him CPR.
- 6:01Speaker 9: All right.
- 6:03Speaker 8: I tried giving him CPR.
- 6:04Speaker 6: Yeah, okay, well, we're... He's purple now, but nothing happened.
- 6:06Speaker 8: He's purple.
- 6:07Speaker 6: Okay, listen to me. This is a defibrillator, but I
- 6:09Speaker 6: need you to get it for me, okay?
- 6:11Speaker 8: What is it?
- 6:11Speaker 6: Do you have an AED available?
- 6:14Speaker 9: No.
- 6:14Speaker 6: All right, are you right by him now?
- 6:17Speaker 8: I'm sorry?
- 6:18Speaker 6: Are you right by him now?
- 6:20Speaker 8: Yes.
- 6:20Speaker 6: Okay, okay, lay him flat on his... Okay, ma'am, ma'am, ma'am, listen. So, listen,
- 6:25Speaker 6: is he cold and stiff?
- 6:27Speaker 8: Yes.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Okay.
- 6:29Speaker 8: Well, he's not necessarily cold, but he's stiff.
- 6:31Speaker 6: Right, okay. And he's purple. All right, listen to me.
- 6:33Speaker 6: Listen to me. I want you to lay him flat
- 6:35Speaker 6: on his back for me on the floor. I did.
- 6:37Speaker 2: I did.
- 6:37Speaker 6: Removing the pillows, okay.
- 6:38Speaker 8: Yes, I did.
- 6:39Speaker 6: All right, okay.
- 6:40Speaker 8: He's stiff and purple.
- 6:42Speaker 6: Right, okay, listen. Okay, man, that's fine. We're still going
- 6:45Speaker 6: to do compressions on him, okay?
- 6:47Speaker 9: All right?
- 6:48Speaker 6: Place the heel of your hand on his breastbone, right
- 6:50Speaker 6: inside of the chest, right between the nipples.
- 6:52Speaker 9: Yes.
- 6:52Speaker 6: Put your other hand on top of that hand.
- 6:54Speaker 8: Betty, I'm telling you. Just by looking at him, you
- 6:57Speaker 8: can tell.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Okay.
- 6:58Speaker 6: Please!
- 7:00Speaker 8: Okay, he just gurgled.
- 7:02Speaker 6: Okay, okay, listen to me. Alright, I want you to
- 7:06Speaker 6: place the heel of your hand, okay, right between his chest,
- 7:10Speaker 6: right between his breastbones. Put your other hand on top
- 7:12Speaker 6: of that hand. We want to pump his chest to
- 7:16Speaker 6: me hard and fast. Go into this twice per second.
- 7:21Speaker 6: I'm doing it again. Okay, no, no, just keep on pumping.
- 7:23Speaker 6: That's all you need to do for me. Keep on
- 7:26Speaker 6: pumping his chest for me. I don't need you to
- 7:28Speaker 6: stop and talk or anything. I just want you to
- 7:30Speaker 6: count out loud for me, okay?
- 7:32Speaker 8: One, two, three, four, five.
- 7:37Speaker 4: Sarah's behavior immediately struck the dispatcher as odd. People do
- 7:41Speaker 4: unreasonable things when they're in a crisis, yet the fact
- 7:44Speaker 4: that Sarah wasn't out of breath and was continuously talking
- 7:47Speaker 4: through compressions was a red flag. Even for seasoned EMTs,
- 7:52Speaker 4: delivering CPR is an exhausting process. On top of that,
- 7:56Speaker 4: her statement that she'd already attempted CPR prior to calling
- 7:59Speaker 4: 911 didn't add up with her description of what was
- 8:02Speaker 4: happening at the scene. If she really had given CPR,
- 8:06Speaker 4: the gurgle she claimed to have heard would have happened
- 8:09Speaker 4: as she was giving him his first series of compressions.
- 8:12Speaker 4: There were enough red flags waving without even addressing the
- 8:15Speaker 4: biggest signal that Sarah wasn't being entirely truthful. The fact
- 8:19Speaker 4: that her story made little sense, and that she was
- 8:22Speaker 4: so adamant to repeatedly state that they were playing and
- 8:25Speaker 4: having a good time. Police rushed to the scene, where
- 8:29Speaker 4: things rapidly grew even stranger.
- 8:33Speaker 8: I know.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Next time, the property manager, I don't know, has to
- 8:37Speaker 1: go tell him really quick, or just so he knows
- 8:39Speaker 1: what's going on.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Where is he at?
- 8:41Speaker 8: He walked that way.
- 8:42Speaker 4: Oh, don't worry about that.
- 8:43Speaker 2: We'll take care of that for.
- 8:52Speaker 8: You, okay?
- 8:53Speaker 6: I had a cigarette.
- 8:53Speaker 8: I'll get it for you, okay?
- 8:55Speaker 2: Wait one second, okay?
- 8:57Speaker 8: I really need.
- 9:03Speaker 4: As you can see, Sarah's concerns are about everything under
- 9:05Speaker 4: the sun, except for her dead boyfriend in the condo
- 9:08Speaker 4: that they share together. First responders on the scene later
- 9:11Speaker 4: commented that Sarah's attitude was unsettling and that her tears
- 9:15Speaker 4: appeared to them to be forced and unnatural.
- 9:18Speaker 2: What's going on? I just got here, so fill me in.
- 9:21Speaker 1: No problem. He and I are putting a puzzle together.
- 9:23Speaker 1: We've been doing some artwork together.
- 9:25Speaker 2: You are putting a puzzle together?
- 9:26Speaker 1: Yes, we have a puzzle that we started in there.
- 9:28Speaker 10: Okay.
- 9:29Speaker 1: We've been doing art, trying to take the stuff off
- 9:31Speaker 1: the wall to make new art put up there, like
- 9:33Speaker 1: having a good time with one another.
- 9:35Speaker 8: But we're drinking.
- 9:35Speaker 1: We had a bottle of wine last night. Okay. So
- 9:37Speaker 1: then it's like we decided to play hide and seek, right?
- 9:41Speaker 8: Okay.
- 9:41Speaker 1: So he gets in the suitcase, okay?
- 9:44Speaker 2: Who is this guy?
- 9:44Speaker 3: That's my ex-boyfriend.
- 9:46Speaker 1: My former husband.
- 9:46Speaker 2: How did he... He lived here with you guys?
- 9:48Speaker 9: No.
- 9:49Speaker 1: I called him over here.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Okay, okay.
- 9:51Speaker 1: I didn't know what to do.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Okay.
- 9:53Speaker 1: I didn't know what to do.
- 9:54Speaker 9: Okay.
- 9:54Speaker 1: So then he came over here.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Here, let's talk in private, okay?
- 9:57Speaker 1: I called you guys. Mm-hmm.
- 10:00Speaker 8: Tried giving you CPR.
- 10:02Speaker 1: The problem is, is.
- 10:03Speaker 2: I fell asleep.
- 10:05Speaker 1: I fell asleep.
- 10:06Speaker 2: When did you do CPR? This morning.
- 10:08Speaker 1: When I found it.
- 10:09Speaker 8: Before you called?
- 10:10Speaker 9: Yes!
- 10:10Speaker 8: It's 1 o'clock right now.
- 10:14Speaker 1: I tried... I was awake, but I actually got out
- 10:17Speaker 1: of the bed at like 12, 30-ish, whatever. So I
- 10:19Speaker 1: came downstairs, and I was like, oh.
- 10:22Speaker 2: He's in the suitcase still.
- 10:24Speaker 8: That's when I found him, and I took him out,
- 10:26Speaker 8: and I tried doing CPR, and then I called him,
- 10:28Speaker 8: and then I.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Called you guys.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Did he get here before the fire department got here?
- 10:31Speaker 9: Who?
- 10:31Speaker 2: Your husband?
- 10:32Speaker 9: Yes.
- 10:32Speaker 6: Okay.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Where did he live at?
- 10:34Speaker 8: Right down the street.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Okay. So you were playing, and who zipped him up?
- 10:40Speaker 1: I did, but then I fell asleep.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Okay, okay. You're okay.
- 10:43Speaker 1: I wasn't here.
- 10:44Speaker 2: I'm just trying to figure out what happened.
- 10:46Speaker 7: I fell asleep.
- 10:47Speaker 1: I don't know if he's suffocated or if he had
- 10:49Speaker 1: an aneurysm or a heart attack or what.
- 10:51Speaker 2: What kind of medical conditions did he have?
- 10:53Speaker 1: None that I know of.
- 10:54Speaker 2: None that you know of. None that I know of.
- 10:56Speaker 2: He didn't take any medicine last night?
- 10:58Speaker 1: No, no. All we had was a bottle of wine. Literally,
- 11:01Speaker 1: just a bottle of wine.
- 11:02Speaker 9: Okay.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Doing puzzle artwork. Then we decided to play hide and seek. Mm-hmm. Clearly,
- 11:07Speaker 1: the responders on the scene are confused by Sarah's description
- 11:10Speaker 1: of events.
- 11:34Speaker 4: She actually called Brian prior to calling the police. According
- 11:37Speaker 4: to him, Sarah attempted to get him to come to
- 11:39Speaker 4: the house, but after seeing George's legs on the floor,
- 11:42Speaker 4: he told her he wasn't comfortable coming in and stepped outside.
- 11:46Speaker 4: He told her to call the police. Once again, people
- 11:50Speaker 4: do strange things when they're panicking, but Sarah's behavior here
- 11:54Speaker 4: has struck many as something much worse. Cold and calculating.
- 12:00Speaker 4: Many have speculated that Sarah was attempting to get Brian
- 12:03Speaker 4: to help cover up what had happened. Regardless of that
- 12:06Speaker 4: being her intention or not, her lack of urgency to
- 12:09Speaker 4: call 911 for the boyfriend who she claims to love
- 12:12Speaker 4: is concerning. And her timeline gets even more unsettling.
- 12:18Speaker 1: I mean, I know that I was in bed probably
- 12:20Speaker 1: by like, what, 1230? Okay. Well, I went upstairs at least,
- 12:24Speaker 1: and I fell asleep. Yeah. Forgetting that he was in
- 12:29Speaker 1: the suitcase.
- 12:29Speaker 2: So you guys were playing the hide and go seek?
- 12:31Speaker 4: Yes.
- 12:32Speaker 2: And at some point you put him in the suitcase?
- 12:33Speaker 1: No, he got in the suitcase. So he thought it
- 12:36Speaker 1: would be funny to be put in the suitcase. So
- 12:38Speaker 1: I was like, okay, well, I'm going to joke with
- 12:39Speaker 1: you and I'll zip you up and make him, you know,
- 12:41Speaker 1: squirm a little bit, whatever it is. But then I
- 12:43Speaker 1: fell asleep. I fell asleep.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Where was the suitcase?
- 12:47Speaker 1: Right where it is. You got in it.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Right down there?
- 12:49Speaker 8: Yes.
- 12:49Speaker 2: You zipped him in there.
- 12:50Speaker 9: Yes.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Thought it would be funny, a little joke.
- 12:52Speaker 1: It was. We both were laughing about it. And then
- 12:54Speaker 1: I fell asleep.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Where did you fall asleep at?
- 12:56Speaker 1: Upstairs. Upstairs.
- 12:57Speaker 2: In your bedroom?
- 12:58Speaker 9: Yes.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Okay.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Totally forgetting that he was in the suitcase still.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Okay. And then you came back downstairs?
- 13:04Speaker 1: This morning, or this afternoon, yes, when I got up.
- 13:09Speaker 8: Around 12, 30-ish.
- 13:10Speaker 1: I was awake, but I totally forgot that he was
- 13:13Speaker 1: in the suitcase. He can tell you there's a lot
- 13:16Speaker 1: of things that I, slash we, have been going through. Jobs.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Yeah, he did tell me.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Life, all that good stuff, so.
- 13:25Speaker 2: I just totally began to do CPR on him.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Yes.
- 13:28Speaker 9: Yes.
- 13:28Speaker 2: About what time this morning did you start doing that?
- 13:31Speaker 1: No, it was the afternoon. It was afternoon because I
- 13:33Speaker 1: was awake. But then I finally decided to come downstairs
- 13:36Speaker 1: at like 1230 ish.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Whatever it is.
- 13:39Speaker 1: And I was like, I forgot he was in his
- 13:42Speaker 1: suitcase and he wasn't moving. Nothing was happening. So I
- 13:44Speaker 1: unzipped and unzipped and took him out and started doing
- 13:46Speaker 1: CPR on him. He was on his way over here.
- 13:50Speaker 1: I called you when he got here.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Once he got here, you called him?
- 13:52Speaker 9: Yes. Okay.
- 13:53Speaker 1: And, like, air was coming out, and he was gurgling,
- 13:56Speaker 1: but I could just tell by looking at him.
- 14:00Speaker 2: But you knew how to do CPR. You were doing
- 14:01Speaker 2: that on your own?
- 14:02Speaker 9: Yes.
- 14:03Speaker 7: Okay.
- 14:03Speaker 1: And then the person that was on the phone with
- 14:04Speaker 1: me also, I counted with him doing it.
- 14:06Speaker 2: And he's got no medical? He doesn't take any medication?
- 14:08Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Like, I don't know medical-wise. I know he doesn't take
- 14:11Speaker 1: any medications whatsoever.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Okay.
- 14:13Speaker 1: The only thing, like I said... I don't know if
- 14:16Speaker 1: alcohol had anything to do with it, but we had
- 14:18Speaker 1: a bottle of wine.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Okay. All right.
- 14:19Speaker 6: Cheers.
- 14:20Speaker 2: I want you to sit back down because I don't.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Want you to... Can I have one more sip of water, please?
- 14:24Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Go, go.
- 14:25Speaker 4: Law enforcement are well aware of many tells that a
- 14:27Speaker 4: person is being untruthful. In this case, Sarah is displaying
- 14:31Speaker 4: several of them. For starters, she proposed several ways that
- 14:36Speaker 4: George could have died inside the suitcase that relieve her
- 14:38Speaker 4: of any guilt. Twice, She's mentioned him potentially having a
- 14:42Speaker 4: heart attack, despite his relatively young age and lack of
- 14:45Speaker 4: any pre-existing conditions. Then, she does another thing that strikes
- 14:50Speaker 4: investigators as wildly suspicious.
- 14:52Speaker 1: So, she said that I needed to tell you guys
- 14:57Speaker 1: about his family. Like, who do I talk to about that?
- 15:00Speaker 2: We're going to do that once we walk through and see.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Yeah, we're going to.
- 15:04Speaker 6: We're not going anywhere.
- 15:04Speaker 1: We're going to be here for a while. Yeah, this
- 15:06Speaker 1: is going to be a while.
- 15:07Speaker 8: I'm afraid for my life.
- 15:08Speaker 4: I want you to know that.
- 15:09Speaker 6: I am afraid for my life.
- 15:11Speaker 1: His family has never liked me. I'm the blue-eyed white devil,
- 15:18Speaker 1: is what they call me. So they've never liked me.
- 15:21Speaker 1: They've never taken me in.
- 15:23Speaker 8: They've never accepted me.
- 15:24Speaker 2: I'll put it that way. Have you called any of them?
- 15:28Speaker 8: We talked to his daughters yesterday.
- 15:30Speaker 1: No, I mean... Like, about this?
- 15:32Speaker 3: No.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Okay. So no one's going to know until we will
- 15:36Speaker 2: be making that notification.
- 15:37Speaker 1: They're going to kill me.
- 15:38Speaker 6: Do they live local?
- 15:39Speaker 1: Yes.
- 15:40Speaker 8: They're down the road.
- 15:41Speaker 1: They're going to kill me.
- 15:43Speaker 8: Kids are going to kill me in Philadelphia. They're going
- 15:46Speaker 8: to kill me.
- 15:47Speaker 1: This was not intentional.
- 15:49Speaker 3: Okay.
- 15:49Speaker 8: And they're not going to understand that.
- 15:51Speaker 1: They're not going to accept it.
- 15:53Speaker 2: We're going to do a thorough investigation, and we will take.
- 15:58Speaker 1: We will definitely... Make sure that you don't feel scared when.
- 16:02Speaker 8: We leave here.
- 16:03Speaker 4: For almost the entirety of Sarah's interactions with law enforcement,
- 16:06Speaker 4: she made statements about George's family threatening her and wanting
- 16:10Speaker 4: to kill her. The reality, however, was something else entirely.
- 16:15Speaker 1: But it was basically verbal threats that she would give
- 16:18Speaker 1: every time that George would call his children.
- 16:21Speaker 4: At the time of George's death, his youngest daughter was
- 16:23Speaker 4: just 13. He had an amicable split with his wife
- 16:27Speaker 4: of more than a decade, and he was frequently in
- 16:28Speaker 4: contact with his children. However, according to his family, Sarah
- 16:33Speaker 4: restricted his access to them using these verbal threats. And
- 16:37Speaker 4: a look at her text messages shows just how unstable
- 16:39Speaker 4: her relationship was with his family. That being said, as
- 16:43Speaker 4: both the defense and the prosecution reviewed her text messages
- 16:46Speaker 4: at trial, there were no visible threats made from his family,
- 16:50Speaker 4: though some harsh words were exchanged. On June 11, 2019,
- 16:54Speaker 4: during one of several breakup periods, Sarah sent this message
- 16:58Speaker 4: to George's mother. You tell your son he's not welcome here.
- 17:01Speaker 4: Taken off the lease and bound. Worthless. Don't show his
- 17:05Speaker 4: ugly f * * * ed up face around here again.
- 17:07Speaker 4: Police will be called. Ask him if it was worth it.
- 17:10Speaker 4: And riding my bike he has. Stay Hispanic. That's all
- 17:14Speaker 4: you are. And he can't watch the f * *
- 17:16Speaker 4: * ing porn he wants to from the phone mom
- 17:18Speaker 4: gave him. A few days prior, this exchange took place
- 17:21Speaker 4: with his oldest daughter, Anna. You're rude as hell, but okay.
- 17:26Speaker 4: Your dad is a POS, but okay. At least you
- 17:28Speaker 4: know and will stop calling.
- 17:30Speaker 10: Feudal.
- 17:31Speaker 4: GTFO is you're a piece of shit, but that's God's business,
- 17:34Speaker 4: not mine. Have a good day, c * * t. Or,
- 17:37Speaker 4: since you like to switch up, I'll do the same.
- 17:39Speaker 4: Don't text me back either, fake a * *. Oh no,
- 17:42Speaker 4: I think you mixed me up with your mom. Going
- 17:44Speaker 4: to sleep. That's what you do all day to me.
- 17:46Speaker 4: Make me bored and sleepy. Be brave.
- 17:49Speaker 9: Alone.
- 17:49Speaker 4: I like it. In addition, the family has claimed multiple
- 17:52Speaker 4: times that they've never referred to Sarah as the Blue
- 17:54Speaker 4: Eyes White Dragon like she would continue to claim throughout
- 17:57Speaker 4: the investigation. As far as the investigation into Sarah's written
- 18:00Speaker 4: communication with George's family, no threats were ever made against
- 18:04Speaker 4: her in any way. As the scene was being cleared,
- 18:07Speaker 4: Sarah willingly provided her phone to detectives to look over.
- 18:10Speaker 4: She told them that she had been terrified of George
- 18:12Speaker 4: for most of their relationship and that he was cruel, violent,
- 18:16Speaker 4: and dominated her life. A look at her cell phone, however,
- 18:19Speaker 4: painted a much less black-and-white picture than one toxic partner
- 18:23Speaker 4: and one innocent, blameless one. But it seems Sarah didn't
- 18:26Speaker 4: think of that before heading into her interrogation, or about
- 18:30Speaker 4: what the autopsy would show.
- 18:32Speaker 3: So, this morning we went to his autopsy, and we
- 18:38Speaker 3: were informed of some injuries that he has by the doctor. So,
- 18:45Speaker 3: I wonder... So, he's got.
- 18:49Speaker 3: Scratch marks to his back. I know what that's from.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Okay.
- 18:54Speaker 3: And it's called a contusion.
- 18:57Speaker 6: Do you know what a contusion is?
- 18:59Speaker 11: So, like, basically you're.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Getting hit and then, you know, you get a mark
- 19:03Speaker 3: from it, you'll get bruising, like someone hit you or
- 19:07Speaker 3: something like that. It's called a contusion. So he had
- 19:10Speaker 3: some injuries to his left shoulder.
- 19:12Speaker 9: He had.
- 19:16Speaker 3: He had a cut near his lip. We could see
- 19:18Speaker 3: his mouth was a little swollen.
- 19:22Speaker 7: I haven't laid a hand on him. Okay.
- 19:25Speaker 3: Also, too, he fell off my son's bike.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Okay.
- 19:29Speaker 6: So I don't know.
- 19:30Speaker 3: And he's notorious for running into the wall or the
- 19:33Speaker 3: hall tree.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Okay.
- 19:36Speaker 3: What about the scratches? Because there's also sex?
- 19:42Speaker 6: Yes.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Okay, because there's also like a scratch on like the
- 19:47Speaker 3: back of his neck. Like kind of like going, but
- 19:49Speaker 3: it's like.
- 19:49Speaker 6: Going straight across.
- 19:52Speaker 8: I have no idea what that's from.
- 19:54Speaker 3: And they're all recent. Like, they occurred recently. It wasn't
- 19:57Speaker 3: something that occurred post or that occurred a week ago
- 20:00Speaker 3: or two days.
- 20:01Speaker 5: Ago, three days ago.
- 20:01Speaker 3: They definitely occurred, you know, the night leading up to
- 20:04Speaker 3: when he was.
- 20:05Speaker 8: In all honesty, all honesty, we have not.
- 20:08Speaker 11: Gotten into it.
- 20:09Speaker 3: He also had, like on the left side of his forehead,
- 20:14Speaker 3: he had basically bruising and on like his head and skull.
- 20:23Speaker 3: I have no idea. As if something hit him. I
- 20:26Speaker 3: have not touched him. I have not touched him. I
- 20:31Speaker 3: have not touched him. Then how would you get those injuries?
- 20:34Speaker 3: Tell me and we'll both know.
- 20:36Speaker 4: Sarah has only been in the interrogation room for four minutes,
- 20:39Speaker 4: and she's already gotten so defensive that she's raising her voice.
- 20:42Speaker 4: But the detectives have plenty of evidence that some violence occurred.
- 20:46Speaker 4: The medical examiner detailed blunt force trauma injuries to the
- 20:48Speaker 4: forehead and mouth, on the left side of his back,
- 20:51Speaker 4: and on George's forearms. All of the injuries appeared to
- 20:54Speaker 4: have happened around the same time. After about half an
- 20:58Speaker 4: hour of Sarah rambling about George's ex-wife, his lack of employment,
- 21:01Speaker 4: and her relationship's recent stability, the detectives have something to
- 21:05Speaker 4: show her.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Okay, so I have something that I want to show
- 21:09Speaker 3: you that we found, and it was from your phone.
- 21:17Speaker 7: Can you see it?
- 21:21Speaker 5: Can you move it around a little.
- 21:25Speaker 9: Bit?
- 21:32Speaker 2: No, I don't remember that.
- 21:34Speaker 9: For everything you've.
- 21:34Speaker 8: Done to me.
- 21:43Speaker 4: This is the video that detectives are showing Sarah. Though
- 21:46Speaker 4: she seems more concerned about the dying battery than the
- 21:48Speaker 4: footage of her taunting her dying boyfriend, this is the
- 21:52Speaker 4: footage they discovered from the night of George's murder. Be warned,
- 21:56Speaker 4: it's disturbing.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Sour.
- 22:14Speaker 1: For everything you've done to me.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Sour.
- 22:17Speaker 1: For everything you've done to me.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Sour. F * * * you.
- 22:23Speaker 6: Sour. F * * * you.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Sour.
- 22:28Speaker 6: Stupid.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Sour.
- 22:33Speaker 1: That's my name. Don't wear it up.
- 22:38Speaker 5: Sarah, I can't breathe, babe.
- 22:41Speaker 6: Seriously.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Yeah, that's when you do when you choke me.
- 22:45Speaker 9: Sarah.
- 22:50Speaker 4: Sarah.
- 22:56Speaker 6: Sarah.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Sarah, I can't breathe, babe.
- 23:06Speaker 11: That's on you.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Sarah, I can't breathe.
- 23:10Speaker 1: It's on mute.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Sarah.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Riggle around some.
- 23:20Speaker 9: I want to get a video for it.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Extra.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Because I got this. Sarah.
- 23:28Speaker 9: Riggle around some.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Sarah.
- 23:36Speaker 9: Sarah.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Sarah. I can't breathe, babe.
- 23:39Speaker 11: Oh.
- 23:41Speaker 1: That's what I feel like when you drink on me.
- 23:43Speaker 6: Sarah.
- 23:44Speaker 3: Please, Sarah.
- 23:48Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 23:52Speaker 1: You should probably shut up.
- 23:54Speaker 11: Sarah.
- 23:57Speaker 7: Shh.
- 23:58Speaker 1: I love you so much.
- 24:10Speaker 9: Sarah.
- 24:15Speaker 4: The disturbing nature of the footage is apparently too much
- 24:17Speaker 4: for Sarah, despite being the person who filmed it.
- 24:20Speaker 3: Let me just grab something. I was just simply asking
- 24:28Speaker 3: because you had a look on your face when she
- 24:32Speaker 3: asked you if you've ever done that before.
- 24:34Speaker 10: You look kind of shocked.
- 24:35Speaker 3: No.
- 24:38Speaker 6: Why did you say it like that? Like, I don't
- 24:41Speaker 6: think you all understand who I am.
- 24:43Speaker 9: Well, tell me.
- 24:45Speaker 3: I mean, I've always been a straight-A student. I am
- 24:48Speaker 3: an outstanding mother to my son.
- 24:49Speaker 8: I excel at everything.
- 24:51Speaker 3: I would not do that. You wouldn't lock somebody in
- 24:59Speaker 3: a suitcase?
- 25:02Speaker 5: Well, I didn't completely lock it.
- 25:04Speaker 8: I mean, I opened it with one finger.
- 25:06Speaker 1: I left enough in there for him to get out.
- 25:08Speaker 6: Okay.
- 25:11Speaker 1: And I wasn't planning on going upstairs and going to sleep. Okay.
- 25:17Speaker 8: No, it's just the.
- 25:20Speaker 6: Way you said it.
- 25:24Speaker 1: You guys are scaring me.
- 25:25Speaker 7: Why?
- 25:27Speaker 3: Well, we just want you to watch this. It came
- 25:29Speaker 3: from your phone. Don't you want to know what's on it?
- 25:31Speaker 6: Yes, ma'am.
- 25:48Speaker 3: Is it long?
- 25:49Speaker 8: Because I don't know how much I can.
- 25:52Speaker 6: Take.
- 25:55Speaker 8: I don't know how much I can take.
- 26:07Speaker 3: Do I have to watch this?
- 26:10Speaker 1: I continuously throw up. I don't sleep.
- 26:12Speaker 8: I don't want to see it.
- 26:13Speaker 3: That's okay. Well, it's on your phone. And you can
- 26:20Speaker 3: either explain it or we take it for what it is.
- 26:22Speaker 6: Yeah. We're just trying to give you the opportunity to
- 26:24Speaker 6: tell us what's going on.
- 26:26Speaker 8: That's it.
- 26:31Speaker 1: It's that long?
- 26:32Speaker 11: Two minutes.
- 26:33Speaker 8: For everything you've done to me.
- 26:36Speaker 9: For everything you've done to me.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Fuck you.
- 26:45Speaker 7: That's you.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Your voice.
- 26:50Speaker 8: Sarah.
- 26:52Speaker 10: That's my name.
- 26:53Speaker 6: Don't wear it up.
- 26:57Speaker 7: Sarah.
- 26:58Speaker 10: I can't fucking breathe, babe.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Sarah. Yeah, that's when you do when you choke me.
- 27:04Speaker 6: Sarah.
- 27:09Speaker 7: Sarah.
- 27:10Speaker 10: I don't want to watch that, please.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Okay.
- 27:15Speaker 6: Sarah. Last time we talked to you, you said that
- 27:18Speaker 6: You put.
- 27:19Speaker 3: Him in the suitcase. He had two fingers hanging out.
- 27:21Speaker 8: I flipped him over.
- 27:24Speaker 3: I flipped him over, and that's where it was. There's
- 27:28Speaker 3: two different videos and a still picture where, yeah, it
- 27:31Speaker 3: shows you flipping him in different positions and him saying
- 27:35Speaker 3: that he can't breathe and you saying, fuck you. So
- 27:37Speaker 3: this is upside down. So in order for him to
- 27:40Speaker 3: have gotten into it, it was flipped up.
- 27:43Speaker 9: Right.
- 27:44Speaker 3: It was flipped up normal. Yeah. Like as if you're
- 27:46Speaker 3: packing something. So this is upside down.
- 27:49Speaker 6: Guys, this is killing me right now.
- 27:50Speaker 4: But that wasn't the end of the evidence that law
- 27:52Speaker 4: enforcement found on Sarah's phone. As the interrogation pressed on,
- 27:56Speaker 4: Sarah began to claim that George was cruel to her.
- 27:59Speaker 4: But the footage on her phone painted a very different picture.
- 28:02Speaker 5: I told you not to step foot in the bedroom.
- 28:05Speaker 11: So what do you do?
- 28:07Speaker 4: In January, just a month before George's death, Sarah recorded
- 28:10Speaker 4: this on her phone.
- 28:12Speaker 5: Are you going to be nice tonight?
- 28:13Speaker 9: Yes.
- 28:15Speaker 6: Yes.
- 28:19Speaker 5: I promise you.
- 28:22Speaker 8: Go for a walk.
- 28:24Speaker 7: By myself?
- 28:25Speaker 1: Yes.
- 28:27Speaker 9: No.
- 28:27Speaker 3: Go for a walk. No, I'm just going to chill out.
- 28:31Speaker 11: I don't want to hear it.
- 28:32Speaker 5: You drink too much and you're upset.
- 28:34Speaker 1: I don't drink too much.
- 28:36Speaker 11: Go get your f * * * ing card shaped.
- 28:37Speaker 3: What are.
- 28:39Speaker 9: You talking about?
- 28:40Speaker 3: Your retard paper.
- 28:45Speaker 5: Don't hit women.
- 28:50Speaker 9: Have I hit you? No.
- 28:52Speaker 10: So where.
- 28:54Speaker 11: Are you going with this?
- 29:09Speaker 3: I'm turning this off.
- 29:11Speaker 11: Tell me whatever it is you have off.
- 29:16Speaker 6: I don't get it.
- 29:19Speaker 11: You can film me, take a picture of whatever you want.
- 29:24Speaker 11: I'm not doing anything to you.
- 29:25Speaker 6: No, I never do.
- 29:26Speaker 9: I'm not doing anything to.
- 29:27Speaker 1: You, Sarah.
- 29:27Speaker 6: That's my name.
- 29:28Speaker 11: Don't wear it out.
- 29:29Speaker 9: Salita.
- 29:30Speaker 11: No, I never do. That's my name.
- 29:37Speaker 9: Don't wear it out.
- 29:40Speaker 4: Both parties are clearly intoxicated in the footage, but to detectives,
- 29:44Speaker 4: it was a clear sign that the toxic behavior was
- 29:46Speaker 4: coming from both parties. As they scrolled back in our
- 29:49Speaker 4: camera history, even more came to light. Like this recording
- 29:53Speaker 4: taken on December 29th, 2019. So you remember this?
- 30:00Speaker 10: So you remember this.
- 30:04Speaker 3: Are you drunk right now?
- 30:06Speaker 5: How much alcohol did you drink? You're slurring your words.
- 30:11Speaker 5: You're sleeping up against the door right now.
- 30:15Speaker 9: Did I.
- 30:17Speaker 7: Not tell you to not bother me? So what is
- 30:21Speaker 7: it you come up and do?
- 30:23Speaker 10: What time is it right now?
- 30:26Speaker 5: It's 1.20 a.m. I don't mind you.
- 30:35Speaker 9: I haven't bothered you since then.
- 30:39Speaker 3: I just spoke to you.
- 30:40Speaker 7: But didn't I tell you before at 9.30 to not
- 30:42Speaker 7: bother me at all?
- 30:45Speaker 1: Yes.
- 30:45Speaker 5: Because why? Because I've been up since 4 a.m. since
- 30:51Speaker 5: yesterday when you.
- 30:52Speaker 11: F * * * ed with me.
- 30:53Speaker 9: Yes, ma'am.
- 30:56Speaker 5: I want it to be documented that I'm leaning you
- 31:00Speaker 5: which means that you're getting out. You're getting out.
- 31:04Speaker 9: You're getting out. And the reason why you.
- 31:13Speaker 7: Were living downstairs and weak enough to get drunk was because.
- 31:21Speaker 9: You don't give a shit about me.
- 31:24Speaker 7: You don't listen to what I say.
- 31:26Speaker 5: Special things that I keep on my.
- 31:30Speaker 7: Front page of my phone so I remember to tell
- 31:33Speaker 7: you about it because of how special and fun it is.
- 31:38Speaker 3: I always bother you.
- 31:39Speaker 5: I always bore you.
- 31:41Speaker 7: You don't listen to me.
- 31:42Speaker 5: Yesterday was my first day at work, remember?
- 31:45Speaker 7: And I ended up 90% hearing about your day and
- 31:48Speaker 7: 10% about mine.
- 31:49Speaker 11: You don't bother me or anything.
- 31:52Speaker 5: Sometimes you just overwhelm me.
- 31:58Speaker 8: That's the problem.
- 31:59Speaker 3: You overwhelm me. By telling you.
- 32:01Speaker 5: About my first day at work?
- 32:02Speaker 1: No, dude.
- 32:03Speaker 9: You just overwhelm me about every other day at school.
- 32:06Speaker 11: It's not just, you know, first day at work.
- 32:10Speaker 7: So I'm overwhelming you by telling you about the fourth
- 32:12Speaker 7: highest paid baseball player?
- 32:14Speaker 1: That's a client of ours?
- 32:20Speaker 7: I'm not starstruck.
- 32:21Speaker 11: I don't.
- 32:23Speaker 5: Even know who the guy is.
- 32:24Speaker 11: I don't either.
- 32:26Speaker 5: So the reason why, so you fully admit now that
- 32:29Speaker 5: you didn't care and you did brush me off in the.
- 32:33Speaker 7: Car, midway sentence, because you're not into baseball.
- 32:42Speaker 3: I want to go to sleep.
- 32:43Speaker 7: Go downstairs. I'm leaving you and I'm going to try
- 32:50Speaker 7: and cancel plane tickets. Because I don't do special things
- 32:54Speaker 7: for people like you. that are doing this, like, to.
- 32:58Speaker 5: Me, after I asked you, at 1.21 in the morning,
- 33:02Speaker 5: I wanted to be asleep.
- 33:03Speaker 7: I wanted to stay asleep, which is why.
- 33:05Speaker 5: I got out of the bed at 8.30. I told
- 33:10Speaker 5: you not to step foot in the bedroom. So what
- 33:13Speaker 5: do you do?
- 33:15Speaker 10: Nonetheless, you're drunk.
- 33:17Speaker 11: The amount of alcohol, I know how much was alcohol.
- 33:20Speaker 3: I know how much was alcohol.
- 33:23Speaker 5: That's why you're I could smell you in the bed
- 33:26Speaker 5: before you actually got me up. I can smell you
- 33:34Speaker 5: from here.
- 33:45Speaker 3: You're despicable.
- 33:46Speaker 5: How am I despicable?
- 33:48Speaker 3: Am I even doing anything?
- 33:49Speaker 1: Leave me alone.
- 33:50Speaker 9: Okay.
- 34:05Speaker 4: Sarah, repeatedly screaming at George while he's sitting on the ground,
- 34:08Speaker 4: almost too intoxicated to sit up, provides some important retrospective
- 34:12Speaker 4: insight into incidents that had occurred in the history of
- 34:14Speaker 4: their relationship. Like this incident on June 15th, 2019, when
- 34:19Speaker 4: Sarah called the police on George for allegedly hurting her.
- 34:25Speaker 5: I'm not getting arrested.
- 34:26Speaker 7: No, I'm getting a statement from you. You're not being arrested.
- 34:29Speaker 9: Okay, look, I'll come over and see you in like five.
- 34:32Speaker 10: Come on, miss. Thanks, ladies.
- 34:34Speaker 5: They know.
- 34:35Speaker 3: Let's get this done.
- 34:38Speaker 1: They know.
- 34:39Speaker 2: Okay.
- 34:40Speaker 11: Ma'am, would you come in here so we can do
- 34:44Speaker 11: your statement, please? And stop this.
- 34:48Speaker 3: Sit down at the table and let's get your statement
- 34:50Speaker 3: filled out.
- 34:53Speaker 1: He didn't believe I would ever do it.
- 34:56Speaker 3: I'm going to shut the door.
- 34:58Speaker 8: Is that okay?
- 35:03Speaker 9: Sure.
- 35:05Speaker 4: This kind of laughter and taunting isn't the behavior you'd
- 35:07Speaker 4: expect from someone who claims to have been attacked by
- 35:09Speaker 4: their boyfriend. And her statement that George didn't believe she'd
- 35:13Speaker 4: do this doesn't hold a lot of water. At this point,
- 35:17Speaker 4: the two had five arrests on their record for domestic
- 35:20Speaker 4: violence against one another over the course of their relationship.
- 35:23Speaker 4: and had split up and gotten back together countless times.
- 35:26Speaker 4: In fact, a bit over a week before this, on
- 35:29Speaker 4: June 2nd, the two were separated. Angry that he refused
- 35:32Speaker 4: to come visit her, Sarah ripped up George's birth certificate
- 35:35Speaker 4: and texted him a photo, even going so far as
- 35:38Speaker 4: to say, look what you made me do. On June 18th,
- 35:41Speaker 4: law enforcement was called back to Sarah's house to find
- 35:44Speaker 4: George there, despite the fact that a no-contact order had
- 35:47Speaker 4: been issued.
- 35:49Speaker 6: What's up, bro?
- 35:50Speaker 11: It's the guys!
- 35:52Speaker 8: It is?
- 35:54Speaker 1: So what happened?
- 35:55Speaker 3: What's going on now? Did this just happen?
- 35:58Speaker 2: What?
- 35:58Speaker 1: No.
- 35:59Speaker 3: Oh, I see. Oh, no.
- 36:02Speaker 5: We're in his hand.
- 36:03Speaker 2: We dropped it.
- 36:07Speaker 1: So who called?
- 36:08Speaker 3: Who called?
- 36:13Speaker 9: So what's happened? They're asking you, not me.
- 36:28Speaker 7: You speak to him, I'll speak to you in a minute.
- 36:31Speaker 3: Come here.
- 36:33Speaker 11: So, you're guessing it's all for a reason, right?
- 36:39Speaker 6: Okay.
- 36:39Speaker 1: Yeah, but.
- 36:41Speaker 5: You realize it's here, right?
- 36:46Speaker 9: Right.
- 36:50Speaker 6: I had a drink.
- 36:50Speaker 3: I had a drink.
- 36:51Speaker 6: I had a drink. I had a drink.
- 37:39Speaker 4: George was detained for violating the no contact order, even
- 37:42Speaker 4: though he maintained that he was invited over the house
- 37:44Speaker 4: by Sarah to hang out, and that Sarah claimed the same. Yet,
- 37:48Speaker 4: It was Sarah who called 911 to inform police that
- 37:51Speaker 4: he was at her house. To many, it seems like
- 37:55Speaker 4: the entire thing was a ploy to get George in
- 37:57Speaker 4: more trouble. All the while, Sarah appears to have been
- 38:00Speaker 4: trying to get herself out of any trouble. Like this
- 38:02Speaker 4: footage found on her phone of her coaching George what
- 38:04Speaker 4: to say at trial regarding an altercation the two got into.
- 38:07Speaker 9: I'm going to go to court, and I'm going to
- 38:11Speaker 9: tell the judge. Listen, my fiancée has nothing to do
- 38:14Speaker 9: with it.
- 38:14Speaker 6: It's all my fault.
- 38:19Speaker 9: We were both drinking and got out of hand. It's
- 38:21Speaker 9: an isolated situation. It has never happened before. I love
- 38:25Speaker 9: my fiance. She's a good woman. Never been in trouble
- 38:30Speaker 9: in her life. She has a seven-year-old son that she
- 38:34Speaker 9: loves and cherishes. She has two dogs.
- 38:39Speaker 6: One is blind.
- 38:40Speaker 1: One is deaf.
- 38:43Speaker 9: She goes around and she's driving and sees an animal
- 38:46Speaker 9: that's injured. She'll stop They don't know the street, no
- 38:50Speaker 9: matter what kind of traffic it is, just to make
- 38:53Speaker 9: sure that that animal doesn't get injured any more than
- 38:56Speaker 9: where it already has. We both love each other. We
- 39:01Speaker 9: both live together. Yes, every relationship has their arguments. But
- 39:08Speaker 9: we are not the type of people that you've got
- 39:11Speaker 9: to portray.
- 39:11Speaker 11: Us to.
- 39:14Speaker 1: Be.
- 39:14Speaker 11: She especially.
- 39:15Speaker 1: Especially her.
- 39:18Speaker 9: So please, if you can, dismiss this case.
- 39:24Speaker 11: Drop it.
- 39:25Speaker 9: She is not the type of person.
- 39:27Speaker 5: Good person.
- 39:30Speaker 4: Footage found and their arrest history, along with Sarah's interrogation,
- 39:33Speaker 4: gave detectives their own theories on their relationship. Though the
- 39:37Speaker 4: relationship was volatile and clearly violent, Sarah was also an
- 39:41Speaker 4: aggressor in it. It's important to note that before the
- 39:44Speaker 4: footage was shown to Sarah, she had not once mentioned
- 39:47Speaker 4: to detectives any fear she had of George or any
- 39:50Speaker 4: violence committed by him. When the case went to trial, however,
- 39:54Speaker 4: she presented a completely different story about what took place
- 39:58Speaker 4: the night of George's death. At trial, she reportedly spoke
- 40:02Speaker 4: about George's violence toward her. She maintained her story that
- 40:06Speaker 4: she zipped George up in the suitcase as a joke,
- 40:08Speaker 4: but claimed that while in the suitcase, George became irate.
- 40:12Speaker 4: She was fearful for her life.
- 40:13Speaker 10: Between these two movies, how did he express his anger
- 40:16Speaker 10: with you?
- 40:17Speaker 1: He told me that I was going to die.
- 40:20Speaker 9: Okay.
- 40:21Speaker 10: Now this is happening after he's already told you several
- 40:24Speaker 10: times he cannot breathe in the suitcase, correct?
- 40:27Speaker 1: Correct.
- 40:28Speaker 10: And he's been in there for whatever brief amount of
- 40:32Speaker 10: time it took you to zip him up and the
- 40:36Speaker 10: laughter stops and then you go over and begin to film, correct?
- 40:39Speaker 6: Correct.
- 40:41Speaker 10: And your purpose of filming is to kind of teach
- 40:45Speaker 10: him a lesson. This is your chance to say something
- 40:47Speaker 10: to him when he can't say anything back to you, correct?
- 40:51Speaker 9: No.
- 40:53Speaker 5: Then correct me.
- 40:55Speaker 10: There was no lesson to be learned.
- 40:58Speaker 5: It was just I wanted.
- 40:59Speaker 11: Him to.
- 41:01Speaker 5: Try to understand how I felt so maybe he could
- 41:06Speaker 5: progress in being a better person.
- 41:08Speaker 6: The next day.
- 41:11Speaker 10: So you wanted him to understand how you felt in
- 41:14Speaker 10: the past, and that's not teaching a lesson?
- 41:18Speaker 11: I just wanted him to understand.
- 41:20Speaker 4: Ultimately, these claims seem to have fallen on deaf ears.
- 41:24Speaker 4: Because after just an hour of deliberation, the jury came
- 41:27Speaker 4: back with their verdict.
- 41:28Speaker 5: Will the jury find the defendant guilty of murder in
- 41:31Speaker 5: the second degree as charged in the affirmation?
- 41:35Speaker 4: It's worth noting that Sarah was offered a plea deal
- 41:37Speaker 4: that would have allowed her to serve less than 15
- 41:39Speaker 4: years in prison.
- 41:40Speaker 1: Instead.
- 41:41Speaker 4: she rejected the deal in favor of a trial. On
- 41:44Speaker 4: December 2nd, 2024, she was sentenced to life in prison.
- 41:48Speaker 4: In her closing statements, she told the jury, I forgive
- 41:51Speaker 4: myself for falling in love with a monster.
