Transcript
- 0:03Speaker 1: Hey guys, and welcome to normally the show with normalish
- 0:06Speaker 1: takes for when the news gets weird. I'm Mary Catherine
- 0:08Speaker 1: Ham and I'm Carol Markoit all's going, Carol, Can I
- 0:12Speaker 1: tell you that I was just bumped from TV, which
- 0:14Speaker 1: is why my makeup if you're watching the video version
- 0:16Speaker 1: looks pretty good. But I was bumped for Governor DeSantis
- 0:20Speaker 1: and Kandy Rice.
- 0:21Speaker 2: So if you have to be bumped for somebody.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Right, I'll allow it. I'll allow it.
- 0:26Speaker 2: So my governor's been doing a great job. Actually we
- 0:28Speaker 2: know we'll get into that later on the show, but wow,
- 0:32Speaker 2: really impressive.
- 0:34Speaker 1: He is an impressive guy. But first up, we have
- 0:37Speaker 1: some we have some problems to diagnose over at CBS.
- 0:40Speaker 1: What's going on, Carol?
- 0:41Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, we were kind of saying that Kamala's
- 0:45Speaker 2: interview with sixty Minutes wasn't a complete disaster. She had
- 0:50Speaker 2: a moment that went viral where she kind of had
- 0:53Speaker 2: a word salad that people didn't really understand what she
- 0:56Speaker 2: was saying. Okay, but in general, I think she was
- 0:59Speaker 2: getting praise for going on an outlet that was somewhat
- 1:03Speaker 2: serious for one serious interview of the week, But then
- 1:07Speaker 2: that clip that's been going viral. CBS went ahead and
- 1:11Speaker 2: altered it in their YouTube channel, and so now we
- 1:15Speaker 2: have this let's play the clip.
- 1:17Speaker 3: But it seems that Prime Minister Netanyah who is not listening.
- 1:22Speaker 4: Well, Bill, the work that we have done has resulted
- 1:27Speaker 4: in a number of movements in that region by Israel
- 1:33Speaker 4: that were very much prompted by or a result of
- 1:39Speaker 4: many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen
- 1:43Speaker 4: in the region.
- 1:43Speaker 5: But it seems that Prime Minister Netanyah who is not listening.
- 1:47Speaker 4: We're not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for
- 1:51Speaker 4: the United States to be clear about where we stand
- 1:53Speaker 4: on the need for this war to end.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Not the same, not the same. And it really says
- 1:59Speaker 2: something about what they think of her. They think that
- 2:03Speaker 2: she can't do it on her own, and they need
- 2:05Speaker 2: to help her. I think that we've gotten to where
- 2:09Speaker 2: that's become a negative for her. This help of her
- 2:11Speaker 2: by the media is not helping her. The moderators at
- 2:15Speaker 2: the debates stepping in and trying to assist her ended
- 2:18Speaker 2: up backfiring. I think Trump is now polling higher than
- 2:21Speaker 2: he was before that. It's a real problem.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Yeah, And the thing is they released a preview clip
- 2:28Speaker 1: of her answer, and then that didn't match the answer
- 2:31Speaker 1: that's in the aired TV version, which obviously more people
- 2:35Speaker 1: see because it's on TV. There's another allegation that the
- 2:38Speaker 1: transcript is different from the preview clip. So whichever one's
- 2:44Speaker 1: the right clip, one of them was altered. And that's
- 2:47Speaker 1: a problem because that is unethical. If you are moving
- 2:50Speaker 1: around people's answers in an interview, and by the way,
- 2:54Speaker 1: doing it to help them or doing it to hurt them,
- 2:56Speaker 1: either one is unethical. Then someone needs to speak up
- 3:01Speaker 1: about that. And I think Bill Whitaker did a very
- 3:03Speaker 1: nice job with the interview and is being undercut by
- 3:06Speaker 1: these shenanigans. Not only shows what they think of Kamala Harris,
- 3:10Speaker 1: but what they think of their audience. That's which is
- 3:12Speaker 1: that they're not treating you.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I don't think CBS would ever do such
- 3:17Speaker 2: a thing. Would they marry Catherine Well?
- 3:20Speaker 1: Meanwhile, they are dealing with a serious ethical problem quite
- 3:24Speaker 1: openly over at CBS. But it's not this one. No, no, no,
- 3:29Speaker 1: there's a full CBS revolt going on in some Struggle
- 3:33Speaker 1: sessions right now because on an episode of a morning
- 3:37Speaker 1: show on CBS an anchor asked author Tony Heasey Coates,
- 3:43Speaker 1: who's an Atlantic writer. Liberal guy wrote a book called
- 3:47Speaker 1: The Message, which is four essays where he's sort of
- 3:49Speaker 1: Thomas Friedman's himself around the world to different locales and
- 3:53Speaker 1: then tells you comes down from the mountain and tells
- 3:55Speaker 1: you what he's learned. One of the places he went
- 3:58Speaker 1: was the West Bank. So he does a long essay
- 4:02Speaker 1: that's very short on any mentions of Israel's enemies or
- 4:06Speaker 1: any threats to the Jewish people, to almost a ludicrous degree.
- 4:12Speaker 1: So he's got this book out. He goes on CBS
- 4:15Speaker 1: and Tony Dcopil, who I hope I'm pronouncing his name correctly,
- 4:20Speaker 1: asks him some tough questions about the thesis of this essay,
- 4:24Speaker 1: and I think we have about a minute clip of
- 4:26Speaker 1: the two going back and forth about this.
- 4:28Speaker 5: It has worked for a long time. Very talented, smart guy.
- 4:31Speaker 5: Leave out so much? Why leave out that Israel is
- 4:34Speaker 5: surrounded by countries that want to eliminate it? Why leave
- 4:38Speaker 5: out that Israel deals with terror groups that want to
- 4:40Speaker 5: eliminate it? Why not detail anything of the first and
- 4:43Speaker 5: the second INTI five of the cafe bombings, the bus bombings,
- 4:46Speaker 5: the little kids blown to bits, And is it because
- 4:50Speaker 5: you just don't believe that Israel in any condition has
- 4:54Speaker 5: a right to exist.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Well, I would say, in the perspective that you just outlined,
- 5:00Speaker 3: there is no shortage of that perspective in American media.
- 5:03Speaker 3: That's the first thing I would say. I am most
- 5:06Speaker 3: concerned always with those who don't have a voice, with
- 5:08Speaker 3: those who don't have the ability to talk. I have
- 5:12Speaker 3: asked repeatedly in my interviews whether there is a single network,
- 5:16Speaker 3: mainstream organization in America with a Palestinian American bureau chief
- 5:21Speaker 3: or correspondent who actually has a voice to articulate their
- 5:24Speaker 3: part of the world.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Well, the thing is, it's not a perspective.
- 5:28Speaker 2: What you know, Dakoopel's is saying is fact. Those are facts.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Those are things that have happened, And you could take
- 5:34Speaker 2: issue with a lot of things, but you can't take
- 5:36Speaker 2: issue with the fact that those are facts. And you
- 5:39Speaker 2: know what's interesting is this whole thing that's happening. It's
- 5:43Speaker 2: a very twenty twenty vibes, right like this used to
- 5:46Speaker 2: happen all the time. Somebody would get in trouble for
- 5:49Speaker 2: something entirely normal, and the crowd would jump on it
- 5:54Speaker 2: and it would become a huge story. Happen in a
- 5:57Speaker 2: number of ways at the New York Times. People, we've
- 6:00Speaker 2: moved past that crazy moment. In fact, I think Kamala
- 6:03Speaker 2: Harris's whole campaign is like, don't look over there, It's
- 6:06Speaker 2: all fine now. But CBS is showing that they absolutely haven't.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Major corporations are still in the grip of this woke mania.
- 6:15Speaker 2: So this below average thinker can't be criticized because how
- 6:19Speaker 2: dare you? He's on the right team, I wanted to say,
- 6:23Speaker 2: the Free Press reports quote. Originally, CBS News had invited
- 6:28Speaker 2: a self described mental health expert, DEI strategist and trauma
- 6:32Speaker 2: trainer named doctor Donald Grant to moderate a conversation on
- 6:36Speaker 2: the issue in an all staff meeting on Tuesday. That
- 6:40Speaker 2: plan was scrapped after old social media posts from doctor
- 6:43Speaker 2: Grant's surface, including one where he referred to South Carolina
- 6:47Speaker 2: Senator Tim Scott as Uncle Tim, a reference to Uncle Tom,
- 6:51Speaker 2: and another of him describing a possible second Trump term
- 6:54Speaker 2: as magacide and the death of a nation. End quote.
- 6:58Speaker 2: They thought that would be a good idea, bringing this
- 7:00Speaker 2: guy in to smooth things over. I mean it's very
- 7:04Speaker 2: twenty twenty.
- 7:05Speaker 1: It is. And just to be clear, because our normal
- 7:08Speaker 1: audience might not be catching the fact that this is
- 7:12Speaker 1: a revolt over what you just heard. The CBS corporate
- 7:17Speaker 1: structure a news organization cannot handle the idea that Tony
- 7:25Speaker 1: asked Tahanisi several hard questions that I don't care which
- 7:30Speaker 1: side of the issue you are on or whether you
- 7:32Speaker 1: agree with either one of them. This is not a
- 7:35Speaker 1: reason for multiple meetings, for therapy, for any discussion of trauma.
- 7:41Speaker 1: No trauma occurred. Did you hear the interview? It's just
- 7:46Speaker 1: an interview. I have had it with the baby people
- 7:52Speaker 1: who actually they're not even baby people. What they are
- 7:56Speaker 1: is people who've realized that this racket works, and we
- 7:58Speaker 1: should stop letting it work. The people inside this organization
- 8:03Speaker 1: who are causing meetings where they are yelling and several
- 8:07Speaker 1: people are in tears. According to the Free Press, adults.
- 8:11Speaker 2: There are adults, adults and tears over that. Over that
- 8:15Speaker 2: like minor difficult interview. I mean, you know what else
- 8:19Speaker 2: I want to say is that you and I have
- 8:21Speaker 2: both written books. I would have loved oh go on
- 8:26Speaker 2: the substance of my book on CBS. I would have
- 8:30Speaker 2: loved that. Bring me on, let's argue about it. Let's
- 8:33Speaker 2: go be as negative as you want to be, because
- 8:35Speaker 2: I would be ready to defend it. And the fact
- 8:37Speaker 2: that he is so not ready to defend it really
- 8:40Speaker 2: says what kind of interviews he thought he was going
- 8:43Speaker 2: to get. He's like this golden child. I've always thought
- 8:45Speaker 2: he was mid as hell, but you know, and now
- 8:48Speaker 2: there's evidence of that.
- 8:50Speaker 1: I said the same thing. It's like anyone who's written
- 8:53Speaker 1: a book, or who knows someone who's written a book,
- 8:55Speaker 1: who knows that to get a morning show, lengthy interview
- 9:01Speaker 1: broadcast about your book is like you've made it, man,
- 9:05Speaker 1: And this guy is getting the most elite book rollout
- 9:08Speaker 1: of all time. And yet he's pictured on the New
- 9:12Speaker 1: York Times story reporting about this, of course, following the
- 9:14Speaker 1: Free press in this sort of like pensive pose, as
- 9:20Speaker 1: if we're supposed to think about his suffering. He did
- 9:24Speaker 1: broadcast network interview. It's great, this is good, right exactly,
- 9:31Speaker 1: but this is it's worthy of this much. I mean,
- 9:34Speaker 1: we're several days into this story, and.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Good good, let's be several days into the story. From
- 9:39Speaker 2: my perspective, let's keep the story going because they deserve
- 9:43Speaker 2: all of the shots and criticism that they're getting. This
- 9:46Speaker 2: is a joke. This network is a joke. These two
- 9:48Speaker 2: examples where they edit out Kamala Harris's comments to make
- 9:52Speaker 2: it seem better than it was. And now this this
- 9:54Speaker 2: codees thing. I mean, it's it just is not even close.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Well, And I want to note Meg mccardial brought to
- 10:01Speaker 1: my attention a great side by side because some of
- 10:05Speaker 1: the people's arguments is, hey, it's a morning show. It's
- 10:07Speaker 1: supposed to be nice and fluffy and affirming. Okay, that
- 10:10Speaker 1: is not the case always. And also you should be allowed,
- 10:13Speaker 1: you should be able to defend your thesis regardless, She
- 10:17Speaker 1: points out. Do you remember that Gail King lectured the
- 10:21Speaker 1: father of an eight year old taken into Gaza while
- 10:26Speaker 1: she was still captive, I believe, telling him he needed
- 10:30Speaker 1: to worry about the deaths of the children. I that
- 10:33Speaker 1: was the same show, guys, the same anchors.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Yeah not light, not nice and light no.
- 10:40Speaker 1: No, but he didn't have like a mid book to sell.
- 10:42Speaker 1: He just had a daughter in captivity.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Right, yeah, Oh wild scene over there at CBS.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Someone rescue Tony met him out of there.
- 10:52Speaker 2: He's gone to the free press, right, I mean, we
- 10:54Speaker 2: know that that's where this ends up. Right. The free
- 10:56Speaker 2: press is like the home of the canceled liberal and
- 11:00Speaker 2: eventually we'll read all about it there.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Bill Whittaker, Tony, come on down, come over, I think freely.
- 11:08Speaker 1: But can I say they have a whole race and
- 11:10Speaker 1: cultured division at CBS apparently, and they didn't talk with
- 11:14Speaker 1: Tony Dakopole about this and examined his body language during
- 11:19Speaker 1: the interview and his tone, so they have actual thought
- 11:22Speaker 1: police right inside the corporate structure of CBS. I would
- 11:27Speaker 1: just like to say that I will never want to
- 11:31Speaker 1: be successful in this industry to the point that I
- 11:34Speaker 1: am willing to submit to that.
- 11:36Speaker 2: I that is just Mary kil your body language was
- 11:39Speaker 2: off with that interview.
- 11:41Speaker 1: How many times did I move my shoulders? And what
- 11:43Speaker 1: does it mean about my inherent bias.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Wild? And you know, I just will finish it up with.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Coats admits that this book is not meant to be
- 11:52Speaker 2: a treatise on the entirety of the conflict between the
- 11:55Speaker 2: Palestinians and Israelis, which good because it's not.
- 11:59Speaker 6: It's not.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Coats also one more thing said in a podcast that
- 12:06Speaker 1: basically he did think it was like commandeered by Tony Ducobel,
- 12:11Speaker 1: and that he didn't do Gail and the other anchor
- 12:14Speaker 1: any favors and didn't do them a service. I don't
- 12:18Speaker 1: think Gail needs our help right in anyway. But he
- 12:21Speaker 1: also said that Gail behind the scenes flagged questions she
- 12:25Speaker 1: was going to ask him uh huh and told him
- 12:26Speaker 1: about ly is an ethical violation once again, just asking
- 12:31Speaker 1: hard questions.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Right, Apparently she had let him know what she was
- 12:35Speaker 2: going to ask and she didn't get to ask those questions.
- 12:37Speaker 2: And how dare CBS do this to him?
- 12:40Speaker 1: Oh Man, Gail and Tanahasey, that's the true victims of
- 12:44Speaker 1: this story. Well, they should be embarrassed, but they're not.
- 12:47Speaker 2: We'll be right back on normally.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Let's move on to something else one could be embarrassed about,
- 12:55Speaker 1: and that is Kamala Harris's attack on Governor DeSantis while
- 13:01Speaker 1: a Category five hurricane was bearing down on him. I
- 13:07Speaker 1: wrote about this for OutKick today because it really made
- 13:09Speaker 1: me mad, and I think that the fact that it
- 13:13Speaker 1: ended badly for her, which we will explain, is good
- 13:17Speaker 1: because it will deter narcissistic politicians in the future making
- 13:21Speaker 1: hurricanes about themselves. Because it's not great. It's not great.
- 13:26Speaker 1: So what she did was At some point, NBC reported
- 13:29Speaker 1: something about Adsanta's aide saying that they were dodging Kamala
- 13:33Speaker 1: Harris calls, okay, a missed call while someone's working on
- 13:37Speaker 1: a Category five hurricane is not a national news story. Now,
- 13:40Speaker 1: it just means someone's working. Kamala Harris, asked about it, says,
- 13:46Speaker 1: this is irresponsible and selfish.
- 13:48Speaker 2: To not answer her call.
- 13:51Speaker 1: No, no, it's a her call. That's after. By the way,
- 13:54Speaker 1: DeSantis had already categorically denied that this happened. It was
- 13:57Speaker 1: just like I've been talking to Biden. I don't know
- 13:59Speaker 1: what they're talking about about. Yeah, I've been working on Florida,
- 14:04Speaker 1: and it became a bit of a national flare up
- 14:08Speaker 1: and sort of the pieces resistance to burying Kamala Harris
- 14:14Speaker 1: on this is that Biden himself spoke up and actually,
- 14:19Speaker 1: let's play a clip of him answering reporter questions.
- 14:22Speaker 6: The governor of Florida has been cooperative. He says he's
- 14:26Speaker 6: gotten all that he needs. I talked to him again
- 14:28Speaker 6: yesterday and I said, I said, no, you're doing a
- 14:32Speaker 6: great job. Is being all being done?
- 14:34Speaker 4: Well?
- 14:34Speaker 6: We thank you for it. And I literally gave my
- 14:37Speaker 6: personal phone number to call, So I don't know. There
- 14:41Speaker 6: was a rough start in some places, but every governor,
- 14:45Speaker 6: every governor from Florida to North Carolina has been fully
- 14:49Speaker 6: cooperative and supportive and acknowledged what this team is doing.
- 14:53Speaker 6: And they're doing an incredible job.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Carol. You know, the kill shot is DeSantis has my
- 14:59Speaker 1: personal number.
- 15:01Speaker 2: It's so good, it's you know, it definitely is playing
- 15:04Speaker 2: into the theory that Joe Biden is trying to have
- 15:08Speaker 2: Kamala Harris lose. I don't know. I don't know if
- 15:11Speaker 2: that's true or he's just you know, kind of out
- 15:13Speaker 2: of it and doesn't know what he's supposed to be
- 15:15Speaker 2: saying and he's just saying whatever he wants at this point.
- 15:18Speaker 2: But I enjoyed that very much. And why would the
- 15:22Speaker 2: governor of Florida be talking to Kamala Harris like, you know,
- 15:26Speaker 2: DeSantis made this point, but we've had lots of storms.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Kamala Harris has never called him. Suddenly she's like, wait,
- 15:33Speaker 2: I want in on the pictures for this one, and
- 15:35Speaker 2: that's what this is all about.
- 15:38Speaker 1: No, she's mad that he won't let her cosplay president
- 15:42Speaker 1: and I just want to say, because I've been watching
- 15:44Speaker 1: DeSantis's press conferences and the reason this ticked me off
- 15:48Speaker 1: is because we don't have a lot of public servants
- 15:50Speaker 1: who are really good and demonstrate that they're really good
- 15:53Speaker 1: at this kind of thing, partly because this kind of
- 15:55Speaker 1: thing is extremely hard to do. So went back to
- 15:58Speaker 1: back hurricanes a bit of a Desanta's press conference this morning,
- 16:03Speaker 1: and every time he did a media hit about this
- 16:06Speaker 1: political nonsense, he front loaded it with all of this
- 16:09Speaker 1: because he's doing storm messaging. He went through specific numbers
- 16:13Speaker 1: of linemen coming to the state, shelters for pets, shelters
- 16:16Speaker 1: for disabled people, shelters for people in general, two hundred
- 16:19Speaker 1: k spots evacuating hospitals, dipper removal, VA nursing homes and
- 16:25Speaker 1: how they would be treated and families could stay there,
- 16:28Speaker 1: out of state law enforcement coming to town on star
- 16:31Speaker 1: Uber and starlink, and their offerings to hurricane victims. I mean,
- 16:35Speaker 1: that was like seven minutes of watching him.
- 16:38Speaker 2: The competency. I just love it so much.
- 16:41Speaker 1: I like things that work, other things that work, and
- 16:43Speaker 1: Kamala is not working on this issue, and Desantas is
- 16:47Speaker 1: working on it, and disasters will be disasters. By definition,
- 16:51Speaker 1: bad things will happen, but the people who are making
- 16:56Speaker 1: the prep work happen. Let them do their jobs.
- 17:00Speaker 2: That's right, that's exactly it. I think that it was handled,
- 17:03Speaker 2: you know, beautifully by Dessante's I think that the Biden
- 17:06Speaker 2: comments are icing on that cake. And uh, how much
- 17:10Speaker 2: should stay out of this? It's not good for her either. Again,
- 17:15Speaker 2: find something to talk about that you know about, find
- 17:18Speaker 2: something that really resonates with you. But it's a campaign
- 17:22Speaker 2: about nothing, and it shows in everything that she talks about.
- 17:25Speaker 2: She's not a hurricane expert, she's not, you know, even
- 17:28Speaker 2: a logistics expert. She has never been a governor. She
- 17:31Speaker 2: doesn't know what this is like, you know, stick to
- 17:33Speaker 2: what you know, and I think that would be better
- 17:35Speaker 2: for her.
- 17:37Speaker 1: I agree. And even if what you know is, for instance,
- 17:39Speaker 1: I don't know, attacking the person you're actually running against, Right,
- 17:43Speaker 1: that's that's good for a campaign. To your point about
- 17:46Speaker 1: the campaign being about nothing, can we can we play
- 17:49Speaker 1: this clip from the view yesterday?
- 17:54Speaker 4: Well, if anything, would you have done something differently than
- 17:59Speaker 4: President by in during the.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Past four years?
- 18:03Speaker 4: There is not a thing that comes to mind in
- 18:05Speaker 4: terms of and I've been a part of most of
- 18:09Speaker 4: the decisions that have had impact.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Wow.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Yeah, really, nothing nothing comes to mind. Huh okay, all right,
- 18:18Speaker 2: if that's what you're going with, that's you know, it's
- 18:21Speaker 2: already an ad Yeah. Did she have any ideas on
- 18:25Speaker 2: what those things could be? I just feel like it's
- 18:28Speaker 2: the you made this comment last episode. But she goes
- 18:30Speaker 2: to the deck in her head, and I think that
- 18:32Speaker 2: deck was empty. I don't think she had anything here.
- 18:35Speaker 2: It was like, oh no, don it forgot to fill this.
- 18:38Speaker 1: So I think, yeah, I think we've gone beyond the
- 18:41Speaker 1: deck problem, right, which is you go to the cards
- 18:44Speaker 1: in your head and you answer a question with whatever
- 18:46Speaker 1: is there. If there's nothing there, you're you have a
- 18:49Speaker 1: larger problem.
- 18:50Speaker 2: That's right.
- 18:50Speaker 1: I truly am sort of mystified that when asked what
- 18:54Speaker 1: would you do differently, she looks at the ceiling tiles
- 18:58Speaker 1: as if they will deliver her and then says, not
- 19:03Speaker 1: only is there nothing to change, but I was deeply involved.
- 19:07Speaker 2: In the decision. But that impact only the ones that
- 19:09Speaker 2: had impact, Mary Catherine. The ones that didn't have impact
- 19:12Speaker 2: wasn't a part of those. She's running as a change agent.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Carol, Right, it's time for change now. There are gracious
- 19:20Speaker 1: ways to answer that question. I argument from some is
- 19:24Speaker 1: like she doesn't want to throw them under the bus.
- 19:25Speaker 1: I mean, she already threw them off the ticket, so
- 19:27Speaker 1: I don't know how much more damage you're going to do, Like, okay, fine,
- 19:31Speaker 1: but there are ways to do that. She hasn't thought
- 19:35Speaker 1: of them, yep.
- 19:36Speaker 2: And she hasn't brought any daylight between her and the
- 19:40Speaker 2: Biden administration outside of saying she's going to be different? Well,
- 19:43Speaker 2: how are you going to be different? And she just
- 19:45Speaker 2: hasn't done the work, as the people say. She has
- 19:48Speaker 2: not done the work well.
- 19:50Speaker 1: And she had another chance to answer on Colbert last
- 19:54Speaker 1: night and still came up with nothing. She just said,
- 19:57Speaker 1: I'm not Joe Biden, and I'm also not Donald Trump.
- 20:00Speaker 2: And also not Donald Trump.
- 20:03Speaker 1: That's literally what she said. And I guess, you know,
- 20:06Speaker 1: truly for some voters that will be enough, right, But those.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Writers are already in her camp. Who is she appealing
- 20:12Speaker 2: to with that? Who is she appealing to with I'm
- 20:15Speaker 2: not Joe Biden and I'm not Donald Trump. I have
- 20:17Speaker 2: to say, actually, I think that it might even be
- 20:20Speaker 2: better for her at this point to say that, to
- 20:24Speaker 2: say something warm about Biden to really kind of get
- 20:28Speaker 2: his voters, the ones who were going to vote Biden
- 20:31Speaker 2: but are not going to vote for Kamala Harris and
- 20:33Speaker 2: those people exist to bring them over. But instead she's like,
- 20:36Speaker 2: I'm not Joe Biden and I'm not Donald Trump. Like, okay,
- 20:38Speaker 2: you're also not staying Colbert, also not married Catherine Ham.
- 20:42Speaker 2: There's a long list of people who you're not. Tell
- 20:44Speaker 2: us who you.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Are, lady, you are. Yes, that's a good point, and
- 20:48Speaker 1: that's what voters keep asking for.
- 20:50Speaker 2: We're going to take a short break and come right
- 20:52Speaker 2: back with normally, So in case you missed it, Kamala
- 20:59Speaker 2: Harris's husband is in a bit of a pickle. He
- 21:03Speaker 2: is accused of forcibly slapping an ex girlfriend. She's apparently
- 21:08Speaker 2: told friends at the time this happened. And then there's
- 21:11Speaker 2: a new story out that he was hiring models for
- 21:16Speaker 2: executive assistants roles and he is kind of grouse.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Yeah, so, I think the first story we had about
- 21:24Speaker 1: Doug eam Hoff that cut against his role as remaker
- 21:28Speaker 1: of masculinity standards under the future Harris administration, which is
- 21:34Speaker 1: how he sort of touted in media. The first story was,
- 21:37Speaker 1: remember the idea that he left his first wife because
- 21:41Speaker 1: he had impregnated the nanny, as you do, and then
- 21:45Speaker 1: they got a divorce. So that's not great for the
- 21:49Speaker 1: masculinity lecturing, and they didn't they had to confirm that
- 21:54Speaker 1: that was real. And then this story breaks. This is
- 21:58Speaker 1: Daily Mail reporting of out the slap. It is corroborated
- 22:02Speaker 1: by several people who said they told that she told
- 22:06Speaker 1: them at the time that this happened. The slap happened
- 22:10Speaker 1: in public at can Film Festival or calm excuse me. Yes, yes,
- 22:17Speaker 1: one of these friends was on the phone with her
- 22:19Speaker 1: after it happened, getting the report from her. She's not
- 22:23Speaker 1: a named person, but they have photos and hotel receipts
- 22:26Speaker 1: that shows these guys were in the place that her
- 22:30Speaker 1: friends claim this happened at the time, so there's some
- 22:33Speaker 1: evidence here. And then he's named in a twenty nineteen
- 22:36Speaker 1: lawsuit for his boorish and crappy behavior around the office,
- 22:42Speaker 1: like crating comments, including hiring people who maybe don't have
- 22:46Speaker 1: the qualifications for certain jobs, for favoring attractive female assistants
- 22:51Speaker 1: and paralegals, that kind of thing, all the sort of
- 22:55Speaker 1: thing that during the Me too era we were told
- 23:00Speaker 1: was very important and that we should all be talking
- 23:03Speaker 1: about them regardless of evidence.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Right of course. And you know the thing is, this
- 23:08Speaker 2: wouldn't even be that big a deal, or it would
- 23:11Speaker 2: still be a big deal in the wake of ME two,
- 23:14Speaker 2: But it wouldn't be as big a deal if the
- 23:17Speaker 2: media didn't try to sell him as the new man,
- 23:21Speaker 2: the new man who would never flirt with the secretary,
- 23:25Speaker 2: the new man who stands by his woman, the new
- 23:28Speaker 2: man who is comfortable in his masculinity. They try to
- 23:31Speaker 2: shape him as something he very much isn't, Donald Trump
- 23:35Speaker 2: said yesterday. They were saying, he's like a symbol for
- 23:39Speaker 2: all men all over the world. If that were me,
- 23:41Speaker 2: it would be the greatest story in the last five years.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Completely true, it would be. It would be the biggest
- 23:46Speaker 2: story of all time. But the reason this should be
- 23:49Speaker 2: a bigger story and so far is not is because
- 23:53Speaker 2: Doug m Hoff is not the guy that they have
- 23:56Speaker 2: been pretending that he is. That's a giant problem. When
- 23:59Speaker 2: he's the guy also running a lot of things for
- 24:03Speaker 2: his wife's campaign. He's the voice to the Jewish people,
- 24:07Speaker 2: he's the liaison. If he didn't have such a central role,
- 24:11Speaker 2: I'm not sure this would matter as much, but he does,
- 24:14Speaker 2: so it should matter. And the fact that it's not
- 24:17Speaker 2: a bigger story, does it tell what side the media
- 24:21Speaker 2: is on?
- 24:22Speaker 3: Yes?
- 24:22Speaker 1: Well, and I'm constantly told and I'm sure you are
- 24:24Speaker 1: as well, that you know I need to take these
- 24:27Speaker 1: things very seriously and that I need to make sure
- 24:29Speaker 1: that I'm consistent about my values, right, And I would
- 24:32Speaker 1: just say that I am. I actually have a rubric
- 24:35Speaker 1: from the me Too era when I had to comment
- 24:37Speaker 1: on these things publicly, where I just have like a
- 24:39Speaker 1: couple of things that what makes this qualify is something
- 24:41Speaker 1: that I should be giving weight too. I know a
- 24:44Speaker 1: lot of journalists didn't bother doing that, but I did.
- 24:46Speaker 1: And it was like, Okay, are there contemporaneous reports, is
- 24:49Speaker 1: their physical evidence that these people were in the same
- 24:51Speaker 1: place at the same time, is there anm and is
- 24:54Speaker 1: there a named accuser? And in a couple of the
- 24:56Speaker 1: dug Imhoff stories, you have like two to three of
- 25:00Speaker 1: four that are checked off, So that, in my book
- 25:03Speaker 1: is something that rises to something we can comment about.
- 25:07Speaker 1: And I apply that to Donald Trump's transgressions as well, right,
- 25:11Speaker 1: Like I can weigh the evidence and talk about these
- 25:13Speaker 1: things publicly but it seems to me that our friends
- 25:16Speaker 1: on the left watch a man of the left do
- 25:18Speaker 1: this and just go that's fine.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Right exactly, They give him a pass. And of course
- 25:23Speaker 2: Kamala is also known for going after Brett Kavanaugh pretty
- 25:27Speaker 2: hard where there was.
- 25:29Speaker 1: A zero evidence and by the way, countervailing evidence right right.
- 25:33Speaker 2: One of the accusers of the Brett Kavanaugh thing, I'll
- 25:36Speaker 2: just never get over it, the one that was featured
- 25:38Speaker 2: in the New Yorker, does not even accuse him of anything.
- 25:41Speaker 2: She's like, I think it was him, Like maybe potentially
- 25:45Speaker 2: something happened to me, and I think he did it.
- 25:47Speaker 2: And there's no accusation at all. So a little different
- 25:51Speaker 2: than what's going on here. It's unfortunate that women who
- 25:54Speaker 2: are on the left or associated with men on the
- 25:57Speaker 2: left don't get believed nearly as red as women who
- 26:01Speaker 2: accuse men on the right.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Yeah, we love one standard. One standard would be great.
