- 0:00Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:03How do you like your burger done well?
- 0:06I am a person that likes my burger done well and that
- 0:09consistently presents a problem for people.
- 0:12Just like if I like order steak, I like it cooked well and I know
- 0:17there are people out there who are just crying hearing me say
- 0:20that, but it's the way I like it.
- 0:22I can't stand the idea of seeing the blood on the plate.
- 0:26I don't want to bite into it. I don't want to see it.
- 0:28I don't want to feel it. It gives me the willies.
- 0:31Now I am very like I have been a vegetarian before.
- 0:37I tried it for a really long time and I just, my body did not
- 0:42feel good not eating meat. So I do eat meat and I try to
- 0:46keep it as clean as I can and I eat it as infrequently, like
- 0:50it's not a regular thing for me. However, when I do, I want it
- 0:54well done. So this is the story of ordering
- 0:57well done meat. I will go somewhere and I will
- 1:01say can I have it well done? And I get it and it's not well
- 1:04done. Whether it's a burger, again,
- 1:07the only way it ever works is a smash burger because they just
- 1:10cooked them all well done. And everybody seems to be OK
- 1:12with that. But when you go to a place that
- 1:15has bigger, thicker burgers and you order them, you know, it's
- 1:19very hard to get them. And honestly, a burger is very
- 1:23much a comfort meal for me from like, when I was a kid, I ate a
- 1:26lot of them and I loved them. Burgers and onion rings were a
- 1:30regular thing in my family. And you know, it just brings
- 1:33back the good memories, makes you feel good and you want it
- 1:36the way you had it. Well, Fast forward, this becomes
- 1:40an issue because no matter where I go and what I do, it doesn't
- 1:44come out right and I have to send it back.
- 1:47So whenever I say, oh, I'd like to have something, you can just
- 1:50see the look on my family's face like, oh, no, it's not going to
- 1:53come out right. And I just feel like that is
- 1:56such a very hard, it's a hard road for me to walk because if I
- 2:03really want something and I know it's going to make other people
- 2:06uncomfortable just by me ordering it because they know
- 2:08it's not going to come out right.
- 2:10Should I have to change what I'm ordering for everyone to feel
- 2:14comfortable, not get what I want?
- 2:16And then even explain to the to the waitress when they come to
- 2:20the table, the waiter or waitress, I would like this
- 2:22cooked well. I know the risks.
- 2:24I want my meat cooked well. And then they say sure, no
- 2:28problem. And it comes out and it's not
- 2:29well. Or I will say, can you please
- 2:31butterfly the steak And then it comes out and it's not well.
- 2:35And this whole thing is coming up right now because last night
- 2:40I, you know, again, I, we're going to have my son wanted to
- 2:43have burgers on the grill and going to cook them.
- 2:46And the last time we did this, my burger came out and my mark
- 2:51insisted that it was cooked well, like he but he didn't
- 2:55check it. And then he sent it to my plate
- 2:58and as soon as I picked it up, it was sitting in a puddle of
- 3:01blood. And I said this isn't cooked
- 3:03well. And he said it was on there
- 3:04forever. And he is someone that eats his
- 3:08meat very, very on the, you know, medium rare side.
- 3:14And I am just not that person. And it, and it, I can say, I can
- 3:20see how you know it. And it's not that it annoys him,
- 3:24but it annoys him because he'll say, you know, if you just tried
- 3:27it this way, da, da, da. And I have forever, forever had
- 3:32this issue where people have told me you should try it this
- 3:34way, you should do it this way. This is what you should do.
- 3:37And I just don't want to. I don't want to.
- 3:40I'm not going to change my mind and I want it the way I want it.
- 3:43So the question becomes, am I being stubborn or am I being
- 3:48requestful and asking for what I want and wondering why other
- 3:51people won't get it to me. It's a very deep question
- 3:54because I as customer service client care person that I am and
- 3:59dealing with everybody all the time, I am forever looking at
- 4:02how I can make it better for people around me doing the
- 4:06things that I can do to help them when they can't get
- 4:09something. If a client and I are working on
- 4:11something and they're not able to write something up that they
- 4:14need for themselves, they can't get the gist of it.
- 4:16It's not quite hitting. They need a logo, they need
- 4:18something. I jump in and help them because
- 4:20I know where they are in their head.
- 4:22And even if I don't like it, I'm going to do it because I know
- 4:26that's going to make a difference.
- 4:27I know that's going to help them.
- 4:29I'll say, all right, here it is. I got this far.
- 4:32They'll say, do you like it? And I'll say, I mean, it's not
- 4:34my style, but I know it's what you're looking for and I'm more
- 4:38than happy to provide that. But what happens when people
- 4:41start telling you that you're wrong for how you like it?
- 4:46What, what happens in our head? What happens to how we feel
- 4:49about that? So this is a big question to
- 4:53ponder because for every person, it's different.
- 4:56For me, I, you know, I'm just used to it at this point and I
- 4:59know what I'm up against. And I've accepted that this is
- 5:04this is society's way of, you know, ordering meat, but it's
- 5:08not my way of ordering meat. So I'm not going to allow myself
- 5:11to get hung up in those crazy dialogues about feeling shame
- 5:15because I don't order meat the way other people order meat.
- 5:18I'm going to do it the way I want to.
- 5:20And I'm not going to allow someone else to infiltrate my
- 5:23brain and make me feel less than because I don't order something
- 5:27the way they do. But what I'm asking you to look
- 5:30for is where does that show up for you?
- 5:33Where are other things that you know people are thinking
- 5:36something about or telling you something about, but you know
- 5:38it's right for you. And you have to decide, do I
- 5:41want to acquiesce or do I want to hold the line?
- 5:43And when it comes to the burger, I'm holding the line.
- 5:46We can always learn something about ourselves.
- 5:48So how do you order your burger? I hope you guys have a blessed
- 5:52day and I'll see you tomorrow. Bye.
