- 0:00Speaker 1: Let us pray. Then Zipporah took a sharp stone and
- 0:04Speaker 1: cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it
- 0:07Speaker 1: at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art
- 0:11Speaker 1: thou to me. Exodus 4.25 Dear Heavenly Father, as you
- 0:17Speaker 1: bring me into my new season of alignment and destiny,
- 0:22Speaker 1: I thank you that even though I may battle fear
- 0:24Speaker 1: in my heart like Moses, I know that you are
- 0:28Speaker 1: with me. Thank you for using my abilities to change
- 0:32Speaker 1: the lives of those around me and to help set
- 0:36Speaker 1: them free from the chains that stop them from living
- 0:38Speaker 1: in their purpose. As Aaron was with Moses, I thank you, God,
- 0:44Speaker 1: that you are sending the right people to surround me,
- 0:47Speaker 1: to support the calling that you have for my life.
- 0:50Speaker 1: From this moment on, I choose to take action and
- 0:53Speaker 1: move in the direction that you've called me to move
- 0:56Speaker 1: into without hesitation. I will not wait for others to
- 1:00Speaker 1: act like a Zipporah in my life to do what
- 1:03Speaker 1: you've called me to do. On the contrary, I will
- 1:06Speaker 1: move with intentional obedience and with the urgency to fulfill
- 1:11Speaker 1: my role in your glorious plan for my future. Thank you, God,
- 1:16Speaker 1: for choosing me to be a beacon of hope and
- 1:19Speaker 1: a light in the lives of those in need of
- 1:21Speaker 1: encouragement and love. I decree and declare that I am

- 1:56Speaker 2: Zipporah and Aaron. In our last story, we learned about
- 2:00Speaker 2: how Moses encountered God through a flame emanating from a bush.
- 2:05Speaker 2: The voice of God spoke to Moses in a wonderfully
- 2:08Speaker 2: beautiful way. God called him to lead his people out
- 2:12Speaker 2: of Egypt, for he had heard their cries. Moses also
- 2:17Speaker 2: asked God for his name, and God said, I am
- 2:21Speaker 2: who I am. In this story, we will learn how
- 2:25Speaker 2: Moses was protected by Zipporah and how Moses' brother Aaron
- 2:30Speaker 2: is called by God to meet and lead with his brother,
- 2:33Speaker 2: as inspired by the book of Exodus.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Hello, I'm Jack Graham with today's episode of the Bible
- 2:40Speaker 3: in a Year podcast. In our previous episode, we learned
- 2:44Speaker 3: that the exile of Moses was interrupted after 40 years
- 2:48Speaker 3: by God speaking through a burning bush. God's presence appeared
- 2:53Speaker 3: and told him that he was needed, called to go
- 2:56Speaker 3: back to Egypt and to deliver the people. And despite Moses'
- 3:00Speaker 3: many protests and excuses, God did not give up on him.
- 3:04Speaker 3: He empowered and reassured the man that he, the God
- 3:07Speaker 3: of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the great I Am, would
- 3:10Speaker 3: go with him. Today we'll hear how Moses returns to
- 3:14Speaker 3: Egypt and how God called his brother Aaron to join
- 3:16Speaker 3: Moses and lead the people alongside of him. We will
- 3:20Speaker 3: also hear how Moses' wife, Zipporah, will act swiftly to
- 3:24Speaker 3: demonstrate obedience and commitment to God. This is a story
- 3:28Speaker 3: about how God goes before his children and always fulfills
- 3:33Speaker 3: his purpose for their lives. Let's listen now to the
- 3:36Speaker 3: reading from Exodus.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Moses had heard the call of God, excited, scared, and anxious.
- 3:47Speaker 2: He went to tell his family of what had taken place.
- 3:50Speaker 2: He told them of his encounter with the burning bush.
- 3:53Speaker 2: The signs God had given him and his call to
- 3:56Speaker 2: go set free the slaves of Egypt. He turned to
- 3:59Speaker 2: his father-in-law Jethro and said, Please let me go back
- 4:03Speaker 2: to my brothers in Egypt to see whether they still live.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Jethro allowed him to leave in peace. God beckoned Moses
- 4:11Speaker 2: to leave for all those who once sought his life
- 4:14Speaker 2: were dead. So Moses took his wife, sons and staff.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Moses ventured back to the land he once fled. and
- 4:22Speaker 2: he battled fear within his heart, yet he knew God
- 4:25Speaker 2: was with him. They journeyed through scorching heat and freezing nights. Dunes, hills,
- 4:32Speaker 2: and wilderness surrounded them. When Moses was alone and his
- 4:35Speaker 2: family resting at a short distance, God spoke to him
- 4:39Speaker 2: once again. When you return to Egypt, see that you
- 4:43Speaker 2: show Pharaoh every miracle I have given you, yet do
- 4:46Speaker 2: not be dismayed if he rejects you, for I have
- 4:49Speaker 2: hardened his heart. He will not let my people go.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Moses listened intently, breathing deeply so that he could tune
- 4:58Speaker 2: into and understand what God was telling him. He continued saying,
- 5:03Speaker 2: Tell Pharaoh that Israel is my firstborn son, and if
- 5:07Speaker 2: he refuses to allow my firstborn son to come home
- 5:10Speaker 2: to me, he will lose his. For God had already
- 5:14Speaker 2: seen the hideous crimes Egypt had performed against the Hebrew children.
- 5:19Speaker 2: One evening, A cloud of uneasiness crept upon Moses and
- 5:23Speaker 2: his family. The anger of God was thick in the
- 5:26Speaker 2: air and you could cut the tension with a knife.
- 5:29Speaker 2: The Lord met Moses there and confronted him. As if
- 5:32Speaker 2: in a nightmare, the Lord sought to put Moses to death. Moses' wife, Zipporah,
- 5:38Speaker 2: wasted no time. She rushed to her sons with a
- 5:41Speaker 2: flint in her hand and cut off their foreskins. There
- 5:45Speaker 2: they were circumcised. For Moses and Zipporah both knew that
- 5:48Speaker 2: they had not fully committed to God unless their family
- 5:52Speaker 2: also was Hebrew. Zipporah, with her son's bloody four skins
- 5:56Speaker 2: in her hand, threw them at Moses' feet and said,
- 5:59Speaker 2: Surely you are a groom of blood to me. And
- 6:03Speaker 2: she left him alone. Now the family that was going
- 6:06Speaker 2: to set the Hebrews free had fully committed themselves to
- 6:09Speaker 2: be Hebrew. And Moses' sons were given to the Lord.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Miles away in the alleys of Egypt, God spoke to Aaron, Moses' brother.
- 6:20Speaker 2: He said, Go into the wilderness to meet with your
- 6:23Speaker 2: brother Moses. Aaron arose and looked towards the mountains beyond
- 6:28Speaker 2: the city. There he met with Moses. The two embraced,
- 6:32Speaker 2: having not seen each other in over forty years. Moses
- 6:36Speaker 2: told Aaron of his mission and how they were both
- 6:39Speaker 2: sent by God to free the Israelite people. Aaron, having
- 6:43Speaker 2: connections with all the elders... gathered them into one place.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Aaron acted as Moses' mouthpiece, just as God had said.
- 6:52Speaker 2: The people were enamored by his words, captivated by the
- 6:55Speaker 2: idea of being set free. All their prayers, all their
- 6:59Speaker 2: cries to the Lord had been heard. God had bent
- 7:03Speaker 2: his ear to them and seen their affliction. They worshipped
- 7:07Speaker 2: God that night and fell on their faces before him.
- 7:12Speaker 2: These prayers were the rumblings of true deliverance.
- 7:17Speaker 3: After much questioning, doubting, and pleading with God to let
- 7:20Speaker 3: him off the hook, Moses finally accepts God's call to
- 7:24Speaker 3: return to Egypt and lead the Israelites out of slavery.
- 7:29Speaker 3: He's still afraid, but the Almighty God is with him.
- 7:33Speaker 3: And throughout this story, we're going to see how God
- 7:35Speaker 3: goes before Moses preparing the way and how he journeys
- 7:38Speaker 3: with Moses, guiding him to the place that he has
- 7:41Speaker 3: called him. Moses gathers his family, and they say their
- 7:45Speaker 3: goodbyes to Zipporah's father, Jethro. Jethro blesses them and sends
- 7:49Speaker 3: them away in peace, knowing that God has called his son-in-law, Moses,
- 7:53Speaker 3: for something very special. On the way to Egypt, God
- 7:56Speaker 3: tells Moses of his plan to deal with Pharaoh. Moses
- 7:59Speaker 3: will show him the signs and wonders that God has
- 8:02Speaker 3: given him the power to perform. But God says these
- 8:05Speaker 3: will prove ineffective as he will harden the heart of Pharaoh.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Pharaoh's unwillingness to release Israel will ultimately cost him dearly.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Listen to what God says in Exodus 4, 22 to 24.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Then you will say to Pharaoh, thus says the Lord,
- 8:23Speaker 3: Israel is my son, my firstborn. So I said to you,
- 8:27Speaker 3: let my son go that he may serve me. But
- 8:30Speaker 3: you have refused to let him go. Behold, I will
- 8:33Speaker 3: kill your son, your firstborn. God shows his heart as
- 8:38Speaker 3: a father to the nation of Israel and his wrath
- 8:41Speaker 3: against those who resist him. He is a father who
- 8:44Speaker 3: will stop at nothing to rescue and redeem his beloved children.
- 8:49Speaker 3: One day God will show us just how far he
- 8:51Speaker 3: would go, just how loving his great heart, his loving
- 8:54Speaker 3: heart is, in that he would send his own son
- 8:57Speaker 3: Jesus to die so that we could have eternal life.
- 9:01Speaker 3: But before he hardens Pharaoh's heart, God must first deal
- 9:04Speaker 3: with Moses' own heart. So God confronts Moses with his
- 9:08Speaker 3: failure to circumcise his son as a sign of God's
- 9:11Speaker 3: covenant with the Hebrew people. And in a truly dramatic,
- 9:15Speaker 3: stunning scene, Zipporah performs the operation herself. Zipporah knew that
- 9:21Speaker 3: if Moses was to lead the children of Israel out
- 9:24Speaker 3: of captivity, his own heart needed to be 100% committed
- 9:28Speaker 3: to God and obedient to God. And circumcising his son
- 9:32Speaker 3: was a sign of disobedience. When God calls us to himself,
- 9:38Speaker 3: he does not accept half-hearted surrender. We must fully commit
- 9:42Speaker 3: ourselves to follow the Lord. But then he speaks to Moses'
- 9:46Speaker 3: brother Aaron, sending him into the wilderness to meet Moses
- 9:49Speaker 3: and to return with him to their people. And together
- 9:52Speaker 3: they bring words of great hope to the enslaved Hebrew people.
- 9:56Speaker 3: The great I Am, the one true God, has heard
- 9:59Speaker 3: the cry of the Lord. of his people and have
- 10:01Speaker 3: come to rescue them. But the Pharaoh won't let them
- 10:05Speaker 3: go easily. And the next time we're going to go
- 10:07Speaker 3: with Moses to the very palace of the most powerful
- 10:10Speaker 3: man on earth and see what Pharaoh says. Dear God,
- 10:15Speaker 3: thank you for always going before us and beside us.
- 10:19Speaker 3: and that you live within us through Jesus Christ. Just
- 10:23Speaker 3: as you prepared the way through Moses, we can trust
- 10:25Speaker 3: that you will prepare the way for us. Lord, search
- 10:29Speaker 3: our hearts, and may we always be fully and completely
- 10:33Speaker 3: obedient to you. May we surrender quickly to know and
- 10:36Speaker 3: to do your will, and to always do it with
- 10:38Speaker 3: a grateful heart. Thank you for your long-suffering patience with us.
