- Nate: Tonight on the North American Friends Movie Club Cheeky chimpanzees Beautiful baboons And several other delightful creatures We watched the 2017 biographical documentary film Jane So grab a few movie bananas And pour a tall glass of banana juice Because we're the chimps of podcasts And you're the scientists who are observing us. This is what it sounds like when we do a podcast. currently doing one. This is the North American Friends Movie Club. And you might notice something about the name of our show. And that's Friends Comes Before Movie Club. Because it's simply more important to us. It's way more important to us. Friends is gonna be like 85 % of the show and movies is gonna be like 10 and then like 5 % for extras. I keep 5 % for myself, just in case. So I gotta ask my two little monkeys. You just wanted to do you just wanted to do the monkey impression. You got to do it. I know it. It lets it lot of like stress to do a monkey impression. You should do you should be the monkey psychiatrist. Like you. You just you just tell Kate. Kate, Kate, ⁓ We should just do the whole episode like that. What time I was a DJ in college for a radio station and I didn't know what I was doing and it was like one AM and me and my DJ partner were just making animal noises. I think that's good. I think that's funny. It was that we got talked to. ⁓ you got in trouble. Yeah. No one wanted to hear my dolphin noises. I was also a DJ at a radio station in college. We've talked about this before. Did we? Yeah. No. Well, okay. Cool. I know. I didn't. I didn't know either. I didn't know actually that I worked with two professionals. I wouldn't say that. I was not paid. I was not No, it was strictly volunteer. You guys, that's how long we've been friends and that's how many times we've talked. And that's how much we know about each other that we have forgotten things already. That we were college DJs. You guys knew me when I was in my early thirties and now I'm in my mid forties. forties is hitting me this summer and I'm like, woof. PJ. Yeah. Pre-Jules. You guys met me. I got on Twitter when I was separated from my ex-husband. before we got back together and had a baby and then got divorced. You went, you had a whole arc. You guys had like three seasons. You guys, we have email. Okay. Let's play the email segment song. We got some emails. This is the email segment. So our one email, and let's remind our listeners, please email us. North American Friends Movie Club. at Jamail.com. Know the. Know the. This is from Joanna. Hello, North American friends. Joanna from Poland here. I got name checked in your podcast before. Writing in mostly to increase the female representation in the email section. Thank you, Joanna. Thank you, Joanna. Thanks. I suggested Chinatown for the audience pick this month and both Kate and Nate chose it, yet it was ignored in the final discussion. I noticed that. I did notice that in the edit. I know Brad Pitt movie would have won anyway as Kate had dreamed about him as most of us do. Keep up the good work XOXO JK in her, cause her initials are JK, which I find very cool. So Joanna. Cause especially cause it's no joke when we get an email from our listeners. Our Polish girl. We should all learn to say thank you in Polish. me hold on. Jin kuya. Jin kuya. Jin kuya. Jin kuya. Jin kuya. hope it's a slur. Look how it's spelled. I know that I laughed the minute I saw it. Jin kuya. What's the D there for? What's the Z there for? Yeah, there's a lot going on there. It's hard to see. Like you want to take Poland seriously and then you see that. What are you doing? I'm glad. Listen, I'm glad that's. Joanna wrote in and put you two on blast. I'm glad about that. Well, what should be putting you on blast? No, he's trying to he's trying to he's trying to distance himself from the last, which is kind of strange because we're all standing in a circle together next to the bomb. So we're all going together. This is where, yeah, like the titanic around the titanic and everyone's going down with the ship playing the music. You guys are doing this and I'm hanging off fucking rudder. No, I feel like you two are on blast for that because you guys should have been responsible for your similarity in picks. We should have fought harder. That's true. Yeah. I I had to be the I had to be the operator, make the decision. So I was focused on that. you operated it. One could one could if we want to peel back the layers and look into it, do we say this is a gender thing? Because Joanna is a woman and we don't take her pick seriously. Or is it a Polish thing? Is it a nationality thing? We don't take Polish people seriously. It could be both if she wanted to do like a hate crime sort of Sue us I want Joanna from Poland to know that I have her back in any route she wants to go with gender or Polish Jinky Wow, thank you. Wow. Well email segment taking it to the mats What happens on the email segment more emails like that where it causes ⁓ divisiveness between those And you guys, that's the only email we got since we already talked about the podcast theme, right? Well, there's only one thing left to ask and that's what happened. ⁓ my gosh. Do you guys want to know what's been happening? I do. I would love to. I was helping my sister, Jamie, with an event. She pays me good money to do manual labor for events and I like it. And we were at Crown Center, which is a big spot where a lot of conventions and tourists go. And we were working hard and there was a big group of teen boys and they whistled at Jamie and I. And we had differing responses. First of all, we both ignored it and we didn't even look at it each other because we're both middle-aged women. And we were like, there's no way that these teen boys were whistling at us. Then we get, and I'm like, Did those boys whistle at us? And she was like, I think they did. And I was like, I didn't like that. And she was like, I loved it. You guys are like the Tyler Durden narrator. You guys both have two opposite ends of the thing. if Jamie doesn't exist and Jamie's just in her mind? That's what I was thinking. What if I don't have two sisters? What if Jennifer is Helena Bonham Carter and Bob the Lob is David Fincher? Yeah, Bob Love, B Fincher in this case. And Susan's still Susan. No, my mom's real. She's a real woman. That's what saying. Yeah. I think I've talked on here before that ⁓ my partner Nick is very loves boy bands, loves the 90s boy bands, early 2000s. And ⁓ so there's a new ⁓ boy band documentary. And so Nick has a lot of opinions about Backstreet Boys and NSYNC. And I'd like to share An opinion of Nick. I'd love to hear some of Nick's hot, the hot takes, boy band hot takes. New segment. This is him speaking. I think the two weakest singers of the Backstreet Boys are better than the two weakest singers of NSYNC. So I think Kevin and Howie are better singers than Chris Kirkpatrick and Joey Joey Fatone. He nailed it. They are better because they're better singers. I will give that in sync are better dancers, but I don't think they sing as well. I would agree with that. think the Backstreet Boys are have a tighter harmony. think the harmony is tighter. It's more unified. ⁓ So watch the documentary if you want to learn about how gross that guy who's like the fat ugly guy. We all know is just is it Lou Perelman? That's how I know that. Okay, Jen Singh. He made so many bands. mean, and you know how he was a genius is not only did he make the contracts really advantageous to him, he made himself a member of each band. So even though he already had a majority stake, ⁓ he also would get a cut of whatever the band would because he was a member of the band. So instead of cut, like if we were a band, instead of it getting cut three ways, it would have to get cut four ways. Yeah. I'm so glad we don't got a we don't have a fat guy that put us together for this podcast. I know. Suck on us like a parasite. We're our own fat guys. We are the fat guys. That's the thing about organized labor is we're our own fat guys. Together we are one fat guy. ⁓ My I have new neighbors and they speak Spanish and I am like. really endeared to them because they will sing karaoke outside and that sounds bad. No, that sounds good to me. But it's like fun songs and they're all in Spanish and they always stop before it's late. Like it's not at bad times. And then they have this adorable little boy who's like maybe two just like walking around in a t-shirt and a diaper and like wiggling his butt. And I'm like, this is who we need in our neighborhoods. This is these are the neighbors we need. don't like karaoke. I don't like it. Well, here's the thing. It's not actually karaoke. I think they're just playing this music and just singing very loudly to it. OK, I got it. Yeah. Which is which is a Canadian tradition as well. know, put the key Mitchell on. It's like one dog starts howling all the other dogs are howling. Patty Allattons comes on your neighbor. Listen, I. It's a strict it's a very Canadian thing, but the amount of times you are subjected to Kim Mitchell in public is is is criminal in Canada. I hate the gopher soda song. And I if I go outside, listen to the radio or in public, I hear it at least once a day. That's the segment is only for me. It's literally for me and me alone. Because you so so educate the Americans because I'm still is a Canadian rock musician who had some relatively big larger hits in the 80s. Oh, it's a man. Yeah. It's a man. Yeah. And he says two most popular songs are patio lanterns, which is just incredible hard to listen to. And then his other biggest song is Go for a Soda. Go for a soda. That's the chorus. You might as well go for a soda. You might as well go for soda. Nobody hurts, nobody cries. Well, that sounds very innocent and sweet. I'll go for a soda. It's also in Canada. have a law that you have to play a certain amount of Canadian content. 30 % on the radio, like 30%. And there's just not that many Canadian bands. So they just play Kim Mitchell, Brian Adams, Bare Naked Ladies, Bare Naked Ladies, Tragically Hip. ⁓ yes. Beber. You play Bieber. I don't think Bieber is going to count. Honestly, I don't think Bieber is going to count as Cancon. ⁓ I feel like Bieber's that they're saying that's an American song. This is a very Canadian thing. I'm about to say. Burton Cummings has and calm enough fucking headlock. ⁓ yeah, he's got him in the stranglehold. Yeah, this is OK. We have to we have this is Canadian movie club. We have to get back to North American movie club. Who's Burton? Who's he? What's he? He's from the guess who? American woman, American woman. wave. Burton comes good. I believe you. And I like that Canada does that. And I think that you guys should have kept up with your bands that you've had in the past and you could have been on the radio. I think you're right. I think we had a pretty damn good chance. Yeah. Better chance than being in America. Everyone's listening. Just, you know, give patio lanterns a try. Give it a shot. I'm going to after this. You know, see how it makes you feel. Don't give it a shot. Give it a listen to it twice a day, every day for 35 years and then send us a message. Yeah. OK. Moving so adjacent. Nick has a very low voice and I have he has been told that he has a bad singing voice and I want to give a. I want to talk to everybody. Okay, and I want to especially talk to people who are in relationships If you're in a relationship with someone don't make fun of their singing voice never it is very hurtful and painful and So now he has this internal narrative that he doesn't have a good singing voice in there. There's nothing I can do about that now I know I can just too late those walls are erect And he has a very deep voice. So he always liked these boy bands and he always dreamed that he would be like the guy in the back. Kevin. down here. Yeah. Yes. And it hurts my feelings and it pisses me off. Let that person's soul be free in the world. Let their soul be free. Can we add don't make fun of their dancing too? ⁓ my God. Don't make fun of people in general. I've never seen Kate more passionate about anything in our entire podcast history. Because what is more ⁓ vulnerable and personal than our dancing and our singing? That's genitals. No, agree with Kate. would rather someone look at my dick. Honestly, I would rather someone look at my dick than hear me sing. So would you rather have someone say you're a bad dancer or you have a weird penis? ⁓ damn. Those are it's too bad options. Like, do you want to go off the cliff into the needles or into the glass? Right. Bad dancer, I guess. I guess I feel like one comes with another. No, there you can have a weird penis. You're right. I just thought about Prince and Michael Jackson's exact same time. No doubt they have strange penises and they're one million percent. Yeah. I think Michael Jackson dancing in front of James Brown, famously good dancer, and James Brown was like, What the fuck is happening? This is incredible. His mind was blown. Okay. So I take back what I said. Jackson's weird and I don't like him. It's a tough one. It's a one. And his music was so good. Come on. the wall. Like even his songs that are not like in the top 10 are just phenomenal. ⁓ I made a determination this week. This is an important determination after 44 years. There is a difference between turd humor and fart humor, and I am a turd humor person. So I think that, this is so when other people are saying jokes, you know, you get a lot of fart jokes or people farting or, and that has its place. And I do think that's funny, but I'm more of a turd humor. So if you're talking about turds, think turds in general are funnier to me than farts. I would say that's a more advanced form of humor to me. I think it's more evolved. Well, like you start with farts and then once every child understands quite quickly, you hear a fart. It's like sounds funny right away. Child laughing. We intuitively understand the funniest part. To understand the funniness of the turd, you have to like understand the human condition. I agree. Yes. Well, we all go to con we all go to concerts to see the main act, not the act. Toot. Yeah, we can enjoy the opening band. Right. Sure. Yeah. But we're there. We want to we want to see fish. We don't want to see fucking other guys. I think you're onto something here. I had a thought that bowling might be the sexiest sport. Because we've got to get you off the show. This show is really shaped your personality. The last couple of weeks. Not the playing. The playing of the ball. Bowling isn't sexy. so think about the shape of the pins and how many there are like ladies. They are. They're a beautiful lady shape. Yeah, they like ladies. And you're rolling a ball into it. And there's a lot of grease on the hit the pocket. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's sexy, but get your fingers stuck. You have to put them in something to roll the ball. Yeah. Yeah. We're a special shoe sometimes. Yeah, for sure. There's a leak. Yeah, we listen. I listen. I'll never. We just got to get you off the show. Is it almost over? The season? Yeah, I think it might be over. It'd be really funny if right after it's done, we watch the big Lebowski and it's like the sexiest bowling movie ever. And Kate's like, see? Told you so. All three of us have like fucking candles lit in the background when we're recording the episode. Yeah. So I'm floating new nicknames for Nick and I. OK, because I talked to you before about that they have ball reps. So I think our nicknames should I he's ball rep and I'm I'll rip and pin pins and pins. And he didn't like that. Yeah, his is yours is better than his. You sound cool as hell. he sounds like a cool nickname. Yeah, might start calling you pins like that might become a thing. I think ball rep is my ball rep because it's like your therapist. it's like you're it's you might as well call him gutter. I understand the spirit behind it, but pins is just you can't compare anything to pins. Yeah, it's like if your friend's name's Spider, what the fuck are you going to do? He's got you. Yeah, guy in a choke hold. OK, so my last thing. This is important. We've got Father's Day coming up. We've got Mother's Day coming up. I have the gift and you're going to when I say this gift, you're going to be like, that's a stupid gift. And then all of a sudden you're going be like, actually, that's a pretty good gift. OK. And the gift that you could easily and cheaply get anyone in your life is black duct tape. Oh, I'd love to receive black duct tape. One hundred percent. I would love it. I had it for some reason a couple of decades ago and I from that moment moment on, I've always had black duct tape in my house and I can't tell you how much it fixes things. Yeah, you can use it. You can use it for so many things. Not to get red green on this ship, but like it. Very Canadian reference. we're doing too much Canadian content right now. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I know who Red Green is though. You know who Red Green is? Okay, because of Because of us. No, I think I would have known it. I think I knew it before. I don't know. Whatever. We influenced that. He'd be offended by the black duct tape. He'd of course love silver, but for me, black tape is obviously superior in every way. black. It has to be black. black makes it look professional. Like, oh, you fixed that. Exactly. Silver's like, oh, you just used duct tape. Imagine a wire. It's covered by black duct tape. That's a professional gaffer took care of that. It's covered by silver duct tape. That's a butcher. Yeah, exactly. So I encourage everyone to go out and get some black duct tape for them or the ones they love. And then think of me and then think of Kate. Every time you think of Kate, I just fix something yesterday with it. Tell us what it was. I have my phone holder so I don't have to hold my phone. It just like sits up and looks at me and I fell asleep on it and I broke it. That's exactly what Black Tech tape was built for. That's exactly what it was made for. I thought I was going to have to spend another $15. No, I don't. No, I don't. No, you don't. No, I don't. That's that's in line with your goal last week. Like don't buy stuff. Exactly. Exactly. Also, you could create fashion out of it probably too. yeah sure. mean if you want to if you don't mind hurting yourself while you take it off you could create some real important outfits. One of the biggest scandals in high school was a girl who was a year behind me in grade 10. She was in grade 10 I was in grade 11. We had a ⁓ school dance on a Friday night and she wore a duct tape tank top. to dance and she had she may as well shot hardcore porn on instead of. Yeah, the way the island. ⁓ the way people talked about it. I'm like, they still talk about it. Yeah. Like how was it a crop top or was it like it was just she wore a belly button a little bit. Yeah, I would think if you're going to go duct tape, you're going to show off the belly button. Yeah. It was on to her. It was taped like around. Was it taped to her or was it like taped to each other and then worn as like a. I don't I. Well, that's important. I'm guessing a high school girl did straight skinned glue straight skinned glue. I used to have to use duct tape to create bras for prom for myself before they had all this fancy tape they have now. Yeah. Kids don't know how lucky got engineering to get these girls full crumbs. You got no fulcrum. Yeah. You're right. You got to pull it up. Yeah. Nate's right. Yeah, was the big, that was the biggest thing. So yeah, duct tape. And that's what happened. That's what happened. That's what happened. ⁓ I'm getting less a birdbath for Mother's Day. ⁓ That's a great idea. She's really into birds right now. Are we confident? Are we confident enough that she's not listening to the show that I don't have to? I don't know. I can publish that information. She looked at me and said, me a birdbath for Mother's Day. That's OK. Yeah. Yeah. This is to me. This is the ideal way to give gifts is like. Just tell me what you want, please. Let's do let's go straight to the source. I told Jules what I wanted. I want ⁓ I want a hat or a top that says mom. And I want to add this because I was actually thinking about this last night because my friend was telling me the story about how he asked for a chainsaw and then his wife bought him a chainsaw. But it was an electric chainsaw. It's like that's not going to cut shit. You need the power of gasoline. The better fuel. And so I think we actually have to not only do we have to tell people we gotta be like specific. We gotta be like, I want a Husqvarna 500 horsepower tree destroyer. told her not to get beige. I don't want beige. What does the shirt say? missed that mom. Just mom. Mom or mama. Yeah. OK. I just want some branded gear for mom. Mother's Day for your team. It's a brand new gear for your favorite team moms. Well, that's exciting. Do you have it already picked out, Haven't even looked. I don't know what Mother's Day is. Next weekend, weekend after? When's when is it? When's the big day? It's in May. Yeah, we don't me tell you. How many days we have? Hold on. You've got two weeks. So today's the first and it's the 10th. So you literally have nine days. Now work me through the process here. We going straight to Cantire or are we starting at a Rona? Oh, I'm bee-lined Canadian Tire. Yeah, that's what I thought. Yeah, that's I thought. That's where I'd to. We were buying suet blocks. We're buying sunflower seeds at an alarming rate. She's heavily into birds. I've discovered birds now. I can identify a golden finch. Or yellow finch. Yellow finch. And do you guys have good birding up there? I bet you have good birding. We do. Not where I'm at, but. I can go in the woods and see some, I remember I was, think I told the story, but I was like, my very first ATV ride, we drove through the woods and we were in our twenties and I thought I discovered, we were deep in the woods and I thought I discovered an unknown bird. And then my friend told me it was a pheasant. Listen, Brent, I don't blame you because the first time I saw a pheasant was one of the most magical experiences of my entire life. They're beautiful. So yeah, it was the time where Narnia and Harry Potter were huge and I always thought that, okay, this is it. It was colorful, it was majestic, it was bright. then I like, I didn't realize, I had no idea what a pheasant looked like. I've heard about a pheasant, but it was beautiful. bird bath for Mother's Day, buying the soup. When I do the dishes, I'm like a little housewife. When I do the dishes, I look at the window and look at the birds. Yes, you need to get a... No, the birds of Nova Scotia book like I have more specific birds. Go birds of Cape Breton. Let's get. Let's get. If have that, they may not have that. Oh, trust me. They have it. It might not be like a book book like you go to the library and it's got a hardcover. It might be more of a pamphlet. I was going to say, yeah, it fall out. Why? I'm going to I get. OK, keep talking. I'm going to look this up on Amazon while you're talking. I laughed a lot this week and I realized my youngest son, Jeremy, is very funny. He's a lot like me. He makes me laugh because he has my humor. He got a game for Xbox. I don't know what it's called. Urban something. Basically you have to build rockets and get these little alien guys in the rockets up into space. And the physics were so accurate that NASA commented on how accurate this game is with rocket engineering. Wow. So he thinks he's going to be able to get these rockets up in space and you can, you can, there's a camera on your alien guys that you can watch them as they go up in the air. He struggled very much to get these rockets into space. And he was Googling how to get, and there are people are talking about, got to divide your V velocity by time distance and all this stuff. And then he's tried again. And he messaged me, he said, well, extra fins didn't work. Added fins. He just added a bunch of fins. He's a scientist. This is you experiment. That doesn't even sound like a fun game. Oh, it's very funny because if you if you get well, he just showed me the pictures of like eight fins on his. You eventually end up getting this ship into space, but. He the surly bonds of Earth. Well, he did. But you have to get them back is the problem. But when he when he pressed the button to release all the stuff to get him up there, he realized that he has no more thrusters left. So now they're just they're just floating in space. And I was like, so what do you do? And like you can watch the camera of them floating and they're having a great time. They think that this is missions. Everyone's going to plan. You have to do a rescue mission. And so he's never going to go with those guys back. No, they're done. Would you guys want to go into space? No, never. Not in million years. Nothing up there for me. we can all agree on that. Nothing up there for me. It's not only do I find it like personally offensive, I find the whole idea offensive. We live in paradise, the only planet that has delicious lettuce, mangoes, beautiful flowers and whales. Boobs. Oh my God. We can't confirm that. No, you're Kay's right. Kay's right. There are so many Nova Scotia bird books. I told you. None. There are no Kate Brinton, but there is a children's Kate Brinton book about a seagull. ⁓ Sal Seagull. Sounds better. I'm not like that, but I would want I would want it to rhyme more than be alliterative. So I want it to be like Eagle the Seagull, not Eagle the Seagull and all it makes fun of them. Yeah. Sal the Cape Brinton seagull. Yeah, we just two to five. Sounds Italian. It's a little above my reading level. also has a fiddle or something. Oh, OK. Now, Sal's winning me over a little bit. Too many stereotypes. I'm starting to warm up to Sal. Too many stereotypes. Let me read the back. Sal is no ordinary seagull. Come along with Sal as he shows you all the great things about living in Cape Brinton. So if you're moving there and you have a younger child, maybe this is a great book is actually great. If you to Cape Breton and you have a younger child. Just text me and I'll tell you all the cool things. You should do like a travel blog or something about coming to Cape Breton. Here's where I saw the pheasant. This is where we burned the tires. And we're like, yeah, that's where we the tires. I saw for the first time the guy that bought my old house and I became very territorial for some reason. was walking. He's young and flashy. Here's the thing. He pulled, I was walking the dogs, I was walking by my old house and he pulled into the driveway as I was walking by. He has no clue who I am. It's all shitty beat up Honda Accord. I'm like... And so he gets out and he's on his phone and he's talking to it like this. First of all, don't like if you got your phone like that. Fuck off. You're not that important. He had a bunch of gold on like necklaces and bracelets and his hair was all slicked back. He had gold sunglasses on. I'm like, who the fuck bought our house? Tony Montana, the mafia. He looked, I didn't like the look of him. He's got one name. I don't trust that. And he just checked the mail, opened the door, looked in and closed the door and left again. So he hasn't moved in yet, maybe he's not in yet now. What's he holding it for? Is this like, he turning this into a trap house? Maybe he's going to renovate it. Maybe he's going to flip it. What are you saying? It wasn't nice enough. There's so if it's not going to be a trap house because people that look like that don't don't use trap houses. Trap houses are for like people that can't afford houses. I don't know what a trap house is. just know it's a popular. It's lobster related. Obviously, it's where you got illegal lobster operation going in the house. Trap house. a little joke. Little East Coast humor. No, see, you got Sal the seagull. Now you think they got greedy. got a little greedy. It's a hall pass to make but just Cape right jokes. I don't know. I just got I just got very territorial for some reason. I would, too. I get very I go back to my hometown where the house I grew up in for 20 years. And I get really judgmental about what's going on there. I have question. Is it illegal to check his mailbox for any mail that I made? 100 percent. Yeah, 100 million percent. Yes. So it is illegal if I check his mailbox. Certainly. Yeah. Why though? They get they got good laws for the mail. They're like because they were doing it for so long. They're like, don't fuck with people's mail. You're not going to fuck with it. I'm just going to. It's my mail, though. Yeah. I would ask him before doing that. Can't develop a relationship. Man, can't. Can't. Yeah. So what happens if he invites me in? I can't. Let's real. I guess I'll be like, I can't act like I'm a guest in a place I lived for 20 years. What about a fuck? Do you know how quickly you'd have to take a poop? You'd be like, oh, I would right away. I hate not like home cooking. Yeah, you're right. Yeah. Smell you're like, oh, I'm feel safe. Here it comes. like getting back from vacation after six days. You can't use the bathroom. Yeah, I get you. ⁓ my god. Have you not pooped for six days before? I don't know. I haven't counted the days. But you know, people don't like the away arena when they're on vacation. I'm not one of those people. I could poop anywhere. Yeah, not me. I'm like a clamshell. The minute I leave the island, that's it. I'm like a clamshell. ⁓ Bible's back. Bible's back in a big way. I've been ripping through the new. ⁓ I've ripped the wood. I forgot the, ⁓ remember how smart I am about how smart I'm getting. I read Michael full occult. Is that his name? Famous French philosopher. Yeah. Read one of his books. jail. He's talking about what's the evolution of prisons and jail, how they were originally. designed to punish the body and now they're moved to punishing the soul. And how over the years, it's transitioned from physical punishment and no mental punishment to physical punishment and public punishment at the same time, then physical, no public, you know what I mean? That's interesting. Yeah. Like anthropology. Yeah. And like, would you rather get the electric chair? Would you rather spend 40 years or spend your rest of life doing hard labor, which is worse, losing your soul, will to live or losing your life? So that's where I'm at. What's conclusion? What's your conclusion? My conclusion is that the reason that we're asking this question is that no one really knows and it's different between persons and you'll never be able to satisfy everybody. There's no right answer. And may I add something? Sure. Love it. That I so most men are incarcerated and I would argue that the wrong men are incarcerated. Like, sure, if you're violent, but if you're doing drugs, it's crazy. But only what is it? 85 % of people who have sexually assaulted a woman will never be arrested. Yeah, like who should be in jail. It's a very interesting read. That's where I'm at philosophy now. Very cool Brent. French Philosophists. mean, how'd you how'd you get into that? What was the what like spurred it? I I really enjoyed the the the name of the rose by Umberto Eco, as you know, Nate. And a lot of his work was done from There was based upon Michael Foucault. Yeah. So I said, I got to check out this Michael Foucault guy. Next you know, boys reason, French philosophy. This is how you become a genius. Sometimes you just stumble into it. It's getting scary. That's one of the first later in life geniuses to ever emerge. am like a tulip. There's nothing more fun than learning. I don't understand people that don't enjoy learning. Because I love learning shit. think that's going to be a theme later in the show, too. We're going to bring that up. ⁓ that's good point. You know, those orchids that are in the swamps that are just dormant for their whole lives and they blossom like 48 years into their life. That's me. I'm an orchid in the swamp. I'm going to use that as a metaphor. You know how I've speaking? Yeah. That's such a good point. You can quote Because that's the whole point of what I want to. I want people to learn that we are suffering more than we need to. If you get a little bit of insight and knowledge, you can really decrease your daily suffering overall. ⁓ yeah. I think the words you're looking for to me are you're welcome or thank you. You're welcome. you. Yes. It's very funny. It's very funny to screw up. Yeah. To screw up being condescending is like. That's the most classic forms of comedy. and the last thing is Brent's Bible, ⁓ hour is back and in our big way, new Testament is so much easier than the old Testament. It's new testaments. Like it's, and I've discovered, I have a very good, ⁓ comparison to get the young people or anybody into the Bible. Really? The new Testament is a lot like the WWE attitude era wrestling and degeneration. degeneration X was huge. D-Generation X is basically, yeah, Jesus and the apostles, okay? They just go around doing miracles. There's like the opposite of D-Generation X. They go around doing miracles and saving people and they don't care about authority. Where D-Generation X was doing the same thing. They weren't doing miracles. Yeah, this is like Vince McMahon is like the Romans. Exactly. He's like, yeah, okay. And so, like instead of... Like break it down was a thing for the degeneration. Next, started their song and break it down. Instead of break it down, raise it up. Yeah. It's set a socket. Praise it. Lord, I lift your name on high. ⁓ So, yeah, I said a socket. Praise it. And ⁓ you didn't know your ass better call somebody that could say the same. I think that could say the same. Yeah, because you didn't know about the Lord and And brother has better call somebody. Praise it. ⁓ So, yeah, basically, the Bible likes to call people and it's kind of disheartening because I would be described this way. The Bible would describe me as lame, like I'm lame, like a lame man. And people were just trying to touch Jesus. They were just trying to touch him to get cured. Deaf, blind, leprosy, lame, you name it. Jesus was like black duct tape. He could fix it all. Yeah. Yeah. So Jesus is the black duct tape. He's just walk around and put everyone that's mad at him for for some reason. So Jesus is going around just doing miracles like people were. There was one one ingenious plan where they wanted they couldn't get to Jesus because the crowds were so big. So they took their lame like uncle and put him on a blanket and some ropes and they lowered the blanket and just dropped the guy onto Jesus. Jesus saved them. The guy got up and walked away. Amazing. He's a good guy. He's a pretty good guy. All the apostles are freaking out because Jesus is inviting five thousand people to the party and they're like, hey, we got two fish, five loaves of bread. What are we doing here? And then at the end of it, everyone's fed, everyone's happy, and there's leftovers. And Jesus is like, you guys can have the leftovers. Jesus is the ultimate hang. He gave him the leftovers too. We don't even talk about that. He left them the leftovers too. Jesus is the wooderson from. They say he's confused. He's the coolest. He's the ultimate hang. He's got an Aerosmith ticket to San Antonio for you in the morning. He's the coolest guy. He loves high school girls. He gets older. They say the same age. Loves it. That's Jesus. He would never hurt them. Yeah, it's not because it's Jesus. No, raise it up. I don't think Jesus wouldn't like didn't get down like that. The first four books, though, of New Testament are. The same story told from four different guys, which is kind of a waste of ink if you ask me. you know that Jesus is dead. A really funny thing is ⁓ all the apostles are going on the victory tour. They're going around, they're doubling down, performing miracles, getting people mad at them. The very one funny thing is this guy ⁓ lied and Peter said, you're lying. And the guy said no, and the guy just dropped dead. And then his wife came in and said, Oh, my husband's you killed my husband. And he's like, yeah. And he set her up to lie. And she lied. And she just dropped it. I like, this is the greatest book ever. That's quite the X-Men power. What the fuck is up? Oh, it's just, I mean, you got people lower and lame guys through holes and roofs. So they lay on Jesus wasn't doing. He wasn't making fun of people. You sing in front of Jesus. He's just sings along. Well, he kind of gave the apostles. He was like, kind of gave them a hard time. Make a fun of them. like, you're flat. was like, he was like James Brown and his band. Like, I'm paying you beyond time. Beyond time. Come in on the ones. It was all them say as Jesus is doing. And like, so every time Jesus told his miracle, one of the apostles says something and Jesus is like, what? You're shocked? I've been doing this shit. It's very funny. It's really good. I like that. And that's my week. Let's have the weekly report, Nate. I just thought of one thing though. Okay, before the weekly report, let's do it. All of us here are older than Jesus ever was. That's good point. Think of how much he knew at such a young age. What a precocious guy. Well, he had a little fucking help. He was the biggest nepo. ⁓ Maybe ever. And he was he was always he wasn't even trying to hide it. He's like, do you know who my dad is? Several times in the Bible, he's like, do you know who my dad is? Yeah, like literally, like the reason you're here is because my dad, you know who I am. Yeah. But you're waiting for a Birkin. Jesus is not waiting for a no picture. How annoying it would be, though, you had to like just walk him by a hole in the ceiling and someone drops an old lame guy on you. Like I remember hearing that. ⁓ story in the Bible when I was a little girl and I remember thinking that it would be fun to be in the blanket with the road. Lower down. Yeah, I wouldn't mind being lowered in a blanket. What I would go through to touch Jesus right now would be I would love to touch Jesus right now. So good. And isn't it? It's like and they wash his feet like that's the sign. Like, isn't that amazing? That's the origins of foot fetish. I would love for people to wash my feet when they're dirty. Like just go and some, and cause they didn't have shoes, Especially lovingly. Especially lovingly. Like I don't want someone to do it and not be happy about doing it. That would be a horrible experience for me. no, no. That's completely different. That's, Kate, you break up a good point because that is like the biggest compliment that's being thrown around the New Testament is like, I couldn't strap his sandals. Like when people compare, John or Peter to Jesus, they're like, no. I couldn't strap his sandals. I love that. That's a dog. To be able to admit dog needs a big sandal. The J.C. Water Walkers? Can't even put them on my feet. Let's do the weekly report. That's it. Damn. ⁓ I didn't, I like, it took me quite a long time to sit and try to think of anything to report because I've just had an extremely busy week, but I'm just doing the same things. It's the three Ds. I dance, I eat dairy and I lift the weights. That's what I do all week. I love it. Triple Ds. Dairy, dance, the weights. I got my shortest shorts on yesterday. Got put them on. I just felt great. They were loose. My shortest shorts were loose. I'm like, OK, OK, bro. Skipped some rope this week. What a summer activity. got the old skipping rope out. you right back at it or where's it a little bit? I used to be really good at skipping because I used to do boxing. And so I would still say that I am good at skipping, but I was very disappointed in like I could go like. 15 seconds before slapping it against my foot. ⁓ That's yeah. Like I could do longer doing the double jump. I could probably do like as long as I wanted, but doing the one foot, doing the one foot jump, you have to like fucking you got to your feet up and you got to have like the tempo. It's got to be you got to be a metronome. And I just I kept losing over 15 seconds like, OK, OK, we'll we'll work on that. Well, still very impressive. Drawing some pumpkins, no questions. Yeah, I was just going to ask if you had a good rope. Really good one. Like one with one that's got like a ball bearing in it. It's not even just like a rope with some plastic on the end. It's like it's that thing. If I want to visit you and play with all of the things in your whole life, I just put up I just put up the chin up bar back there with some straps that help you do chin ups. We get you on some some assisted pull ups. I would like to be able to do a pull up before I die. That's my goal is to be able to do 10 of all the different kinds of pull ups and chin ups that I can do on this bar in a row. I think it will take me like a year, but if I could do like 10 pull ups like this and then 10 chin ups and then 10 like this way all in a row, that's my goal. is a great goal. Did you know that Brent dislocated his arm for the first time doing a pull up? Is that how it happened? That's how I destroyed my life, yeah. I was finally able to do pull ups. I was finally able to do pull ups and then I got up on the bar and it popped and I fell on the ground and my friend looked at me and like, I didn't last long. And that was it. That was my life. Damn, that was the last pull up. does that mean? That didn't last long. He thought I couldn't do a pull up without falling to my death. But little did he know my shoulder wasn't We didn't know my shoulder was out until the drive up there to the hospital. Well, I'm glad we talked about this because I'm going to be more careful. That kind of scared me. a totally useless exercise. Don't need to do it. I don't suggest it. Could be careful. This if it happens, don't come crying on this podcast. Yeah, listen, I will expect zero sympathy, especially from you after this warning. After you showed us the way you would get sympathy for me. As I have give sympathy to Brent. Yeah, you're the best of us. Yep, you are the best of us. I am not Jesus. Or you know who is like Jesus? That wrestler, the white wrestler that wears the blue cap all the time and he's done all of the, like if you're dying of cancer, you get to see him. Cena? Of course. What a terrible way to describe John Cena. The was one of the most it was one of the most accurate ways John Cena has ever been described. Yeah, the the wish thing at the end was good, but he's an amazing person. Like he is just somebody that has good energy. He'd be a good guest on the show. We should get John Cena on the show. Oh, he'd be great on the show. He'd speak a little Chinese for us. He's just an interesting dude. He speaks Chinese. He speaks Mandarin. Yep. It's Mandarin. He speaks Mandarin. You're right. Good point. That was ignorant. That's big dog. I'm just she's not really big dog. She did. She did. I like to teach if you like to learn. And I'll never make that mistake again until I accidentally do it. And speaking of trying to understand other people's cultures better. ⁓ Why don't we talk about Nate or Kate's month and movie? That was a perfect. Yes. Thank you. I wanted to watch a nature documentary and I was, you guys have told me in the past that sometimes you pick a month because of the movie you want to watch and then you decide. And so I did that and I've been wanting to watch this. and it's, so I chose nature documentaries as the month because we all like animals. We all enjoy. nature and that's a kind of movie. And I was a little worried about how you guys would respond to that, but I was like, who cares? Correct. Brothers don't need anything. That's right. One million percent. So Jane is the 2017 documentary film about Jane Goodall and it has recovered the tape from her very first years in Tanzania and Gombe where she was the first person to study chimpanzees. And I would, but I guess just who else would like to add to that synopsis? I guess I just went ahead and did it. No, think it's Brent. I think Brent can tell us what happens in this movie. you. Motherfucker. Jane is 2017 documentary that comprises of archived found footage. I spent her time in Tanzania and Gombe. Now, and she is she is yeah, she she is the first person to hang out with the chimpanzees. She said screw it. I'm not trained at all. I don't know what I'm doing, but I'm going to do it. I'm to hang out with these guys and we're going to discover what makes them tick. I'm going to observe them. I'm going to make claims and they're going to get rejected because I have breasts and I'm going to fall in love with this photographer guy who likes to take my picture when I'm not looking and fall in love and then I'm gonna have a baby but I feel like that baby I'm not in the moment with that baby so I have to leave the jungle and raise the baby and my husband is gonna our marriage is gonna break down because he's off doing other things but maybe it's because the jungle brought them together and then the jungle there's nothing to bridge them and they're separate at that point so she gets divorced Yeah, that's Jane. Oh, there's a war with monkeys. I forgot about the war. There's a massive polio oil break. I forgot about that. Oh, that was sad. But we'll get to that. We'll talk about our favorite parts of Jane. I liked it when the monkeys had polio. My favorite part? David Greybeard died. OK, let's talk about our favorite parts. It's very cool to be the first person to do something and that's very rare nowadays. I loved this movie, Kate. I was like, I wasn't like, I was neither excited nor not excited. I was like, okay, this will be fine. In my mind, I was like, I'll probably be able to do something else while I watch this. And then I put it on and I didn't do anything else except. Watch this lady and these monkeys and they're not monkeys, but I will be referring to them as monkeys for the entirety of the episode. I like your word. I just like the word monkey. We understand. It flows well. Everyone knows what you're talking about when you say monkey. I don't want to hear anybody correct us about the monkey thing. Well, I will push back just a little bit because when I hear the word monkey, I think of something that is small. Yeah. And these are not small creatures. These are big monkeys. I think of, I'd say, I think of everything. They're chimpanzees. No. think Michael Jackson had one. When you say chimpanzees, I picture monkeys wearing outfits and a smoking jacket and a hat and a cigar and they're at a bar working. Well, that's what the animal that's, that's who this is. Yeah. Well, they, they were seeing the other side. We are seeing wild. animals. To have a chimp in captivity? Insane. Deplorable. Well, but yeah, he gets to cool. The chimp gets to do cool things like BJ and the bear. That fucking monkey got to ride around in a cop car, shoot a sitcom. I think he would have had more fun on the branches, man. You see those guys ripping around on those things. That's where they're supposed to be. What if he had a bad toe? and a sore foot and he couldn't get up on the branches and he was just hanging out in the canopy. have a bad toe or a sore foot, you're allowed to go to a monkey shelter and then you can live with the humans and be rehabilitated. But I think any fully healthy monkey needs to be on those branches smashing those bananas. That's what we get. That's what they need to be doing. Chimpanzees love bananas. I learned that from this documentary. That is not just something that has been made up for cartoons. No, it's real. They really do. That was one of my favorite parts, too. Kate is just like when the bananas got introduced into the movie, the dynamic changed or I was like, these guys fucking love bananas. These guys love bananas. Like beef jerky. Yeah. And eating the whole thing, opening it up and they eat them on all different ways. I feel like they were a little bit. ⁓ They're not good at eating, which is also funny. Like they fill their mouth full of banana and then banana like falls out of their mouth while they're eating. It's like you guys have been eating bananas your whole life. You still can't do it. I lose a lot of respect. And when people say that we're very close to monkeys, monkeys, very like look at this thing eat the banana. Really? We're close. What's going on with their bottoms? They got some weird butts. They definitely got some or like, no, I'm not going to shame the monkeys. They have some unique butts. They have some very unique. Did you guys notice how beautiful like her husband? So he was a baron Hugo. OK. Which I didn't know until after the fact. What he shot of the Serengeti, those in the images. Insane. And that they're real. Yeah, like this is and that's what I also liked about this documentary is she. start, she didn't start out wanting to be a ⁓ person that was like an environmentalist. Like she literally just wanted to live in the jungle with have an adventure. That's all she ever wanted in her life. And then she noticed that the chimpanzees were migrating and then they're land. They were decreasing as a people, not necessarily where their land were. And then she tied it all together and then went out in the world was like, you guys, have to save these animals. Like these guys are dying because she really cared about it. And like without, I remember Jane Goodall from the eighties. I remember her, her personally like growing up and I always thought she was a very admirable person. Like she made sense. wasn't, she's so, she's not flat, but she has a very like, regulated affect. Yeah. Yeah, you don't see her fluctuating at all. No, she's so brave. Like that was the whole thing. I was thinking at the first part of the movie when she's like, it's like her and her mom basically out there alone, like slowly, slowly following the monkeys trying to get closer. Her mom is a like warrior person. Like her mom is cool. Yeah, that letter she wrote her about her husband was like, I was like, damn, that's a woke mom where she was like a man will like. Well, it'll be his dream first, his like career second and his wife and the woman in his life third. Damn. Jules was watching part of the whenever she has their son and she only refers to him as Grubb. It's great. Like that's a terrible nickname. No, wait, we have to talk about how good Jane is at naming things. Naming son Grubb is good. Naming the monkey Fifi and Flint. Amazing. David Greybeard, Mr. McGregor. She was out. She was doing work on those names. And it is it. And I loved how she learned about her mothering by watching. What's her name? Be a mother. And then she watched it like Flo Flo. I don't know. We are not so different. Like, I think this I mean, sure, we're different from chimpanzees, but. Like emotionally, all living creatures that can feel are so similar. it's you. If you can't see yourself in these chimpanzees, you're not paying enough attention to yourself. Right. I did want to. You brought up her husband's ⁓ footage. And I think that. It made this really fun to watch was like he is an incredible wildlife. a photographer and I guess cinematographer. don't know what you call when you film and video, I guess just photographer. ⁓ But there was one shot in particular of the Serengeti where it's like elephants, zebras, wildebeests, birds, like everything all at once in the frame. And it was like it was one of the most incredible things I'd ever seen. was like, there's look how many fucking animals there are like. together at once. crazy. you I never realized that was real because I've only seen that on like the Lion King. I was going say it's very Lion King. Lion King is obviously inspired by him. I would think like it. I got such Lion King vibes that like they must have studied this. what pisses me off, guys, is that like that probably doesn't exist now. Oh, we ruined it. That's not a thing that happens on Earth anymore. Or like only rich kids. Like you got to come from like the most wealthiest, wealthy family ever to be like a wildlife photographer. Are you saying the biodiversity is so threatened? No, I'm saying the biodiversity, the thickness of the herds. Probably right, Kate. The herds have been thin. It's a that we introduced Polio to the monkeys. Yeah, I think it was her. She was like pretty confident. It like it wasn't us. I was like, hmm. How'd this happen? And then they had to stop touching them. So that is something that I thought was very interesting, that they were very interactive, especially with the babies and curious. And it took her a long time to get there. She how long did she stay away and just observe them? I forget months for sure. Like six months at least. And then it was like. Just. I feel like it took her like years before they were like playing. But I do I did find the moment funny where it's like just because we now have like all of history and the and the ways that science has developed was like the minute they were given the monkeys, I'm like, ⁓ don't give or don't give them bananas like that. You can't be giving them bananas. then it just chaos unleashes upon the camp after they find out these bananas. I was like, OK, we I guess I probably know that because of Jane Goodall. That's they had to figure that one out. Like, don't give them bananas. That is such a good point. It'd be interesting to see when the first like cartoon of a monkey and a banana is, you know. And just like, I'm sure scientists now are like, you don't feed whatever you're observing. You don't touch it. You don't feed it. don't play it like that's like the proper practice now. like if you're the first person, of course you're going to want to like. I'm glad she did. Yeah, she had to. She was correct. But then you watch these these chimpanzees not be able to move their legs and pull and crawl across the because they got polio. Not the ocean floor. The jungle jungle floor. She should have gave one land ocean monkey a gun and see what happened. There's one gun or I would have liked to say I really would have liked to see them working with some weights like get closer to our jungles. You're my idea. I would have loved to see them throw around some weights. One squat deck. Fuck, they are athletes, though, aren't they athletes? Like when I was watching them go branch to branch, I'm just like What they're smooth with it. ⁓ they're smooth with it. When the North and South war broke out, you give one you give the North a squat deck and and some creating and you give the South one gun and then you see what happens. ⁓ I didn't even think of your guys's upcoming script. I hadn't even. Yeah. Yeah. ⁓ yeah. I thought it was all sticking the whole thing. Do that for like protein powder. Yeah. I mean, think about how much protein you're getting from large amounts of grubs. They were there to see the ants all day. And I love how they groomed each other like that is 100 percent. I pet my daughter every day, like every day I pet her at least twice. It's just like going to the hairdresser. Zach seems going to the hairdresser. And also, I think this goes to show why humans get weird. when they don't have a social interaction because we are primates and that is built in. We have to be with other people. We need other people looking for lice in our hair and petting us and engaging. so that's why everyone gets crazy when they isolate in their basement. It was pretty crazy. It was pretty poignant when Flo dies and her son who was like super codependent just like Gets so depressed that he dies three weeks later. That was so depressing. was like the Russian space dog. I didn't understand that. He died of a broken heart. He died of a broken heart. And it's also a good lesson. Like you can't baby your kids or they won't be able to deal with this shit when you're not around. You got to teach them. Do think like he probably he probably had like a disease and they just said it was a broken heart. But it was another like disease that the humans gave him like MRSA or something. ⁓ I think I think what they said in the movie, I think is a good theory, which is Flo was old. It's her last kid. She's not going to have any more kids. So she didn't. And she wasn't like young enough to be like, get the fuck out of here. Like when he was like hanging off her, even as a teenager, she was like, OK, I'm old. I'm like young flow to been like, ⁓ get the fuck out of here. That's perfect. Yeah, it didn't scare him. Because she did that with her daughter. Right. Well, before. Because the daughter didn't like when Flint was born and then like she was like, yeah, I'm dealing with Flint now. You go do go learn your life. I mean, it's a dysfunctional family system, even in the chimpanzee community. Yeah. It's family stuff's always complicated. The last thing I want to talk about, I have to say about the whole thing is imagine if the roles were reversed and we had one chimpanzee on the outskirts of our city just observing us. How quick How much time before someone shoots it? Well, now? Yeah, we're horrible. I mean, an hour. Yeah. Or someone steals it. Somebody somebody kidnaps the monkey. It was like that hitchhiking, hitchhiking robots that that company tried to design and it like got beat to death in Philadelphia. Like that's what would happen to the champions. I my favorite part of the film was. Flint on top of the tent rolling trying to figure out how one would walk across the top of a tent and he just It's like a little baby rolling around I was like as it was happening I was like I could probably watch half an hour of Flint on this tent just be like ⁓ trying to stand up No, he's falling over. ⁓ he can't do it. This is the one Well, I would recommend everybody watch this movie. I love this. I really loved it. I thought it was really wonderful film. It's a little monkey heavy, but Do we have a quiz? It's a little monkey heavy. Yeah, we got a quiz. got a chimpanzee seven. ⁓ Okay, number one, Jane Goodall was born on April 3rd. What is her astrological sign? I don't know. I know mine. I know. I'm going to say one. Yeah. I can read all the astrological signs. No, I think we got it. It's funnier if one of us says one that doesn't exist. Perfect. I'm going to say she's a Sagittarius. Oh, she has. She's bringing big Virgo energy to the jungle. She is a Gemini. So I'm going to myself that. You get a point. You get to get a point for that. two, what percentage of DNA do chimpanzees and humans share? 99.7, 98.7, 97.7, 96.7%. 98.7. I feel like I've heard 98. That was the number that was in my heart. I'm going 98.7. You both are correct. Yeah. That's that's one of those things that are burnt into my memory. Because it's a lot so similar. We're really similar. But it's funny how that that that one point three percent is huge though. Like we can eat bananas. They can't for sure. And we have language. We didn't even talk about how important anyway. Number three, how many different continents do chimpanzees live on? ⁓ That's good question. That's a really good question. Because it could be just one. I'm going to say there's one single continent that contains chimpanzees. I'm going to say two continents. Chimpanzees can only be found in Africa. Why though? Well, we got to protect them. But we have a small area where they can thrive. they're 98, 1.3 % different than us, look how far we've gotten around. in other areas, but chimpanzees are only in Africa. Well, then maybe they should revisit this 98.7 number because it doesn't sound so far. just we uncovered that they can't travel. They can't talk. They can't eat a banana cleanly. That's a 1.3%. That's a loss. I'm getting heated about these fucking monkeys. I can feel it. I've been feeling it. You sound like a Southern lawyer getting upset. They're teaching evolution in this school. Ride the rails. Do something. Go out and see your world. This is the problem. Number four. OK, so Brent, you have one. I have one and Nate has two. Question number four. What is the average lifespan for a chimpanzee in captivity? Females specifically. So what's the average lifespan for a captive female chimpanzee? Oh, it's gotta be 48 years. I'm gonna say 35 years old. And the answer is 39 years. So Nate gets that correct. Number five, so Nate's up three. What is the average height and inches and feet of a chimpanzee? Erect? Yeah, they're standing on their legs. ⁓ I'm going to say they are four foot two. Fucker. Three foot seven. The average height is four feet, 11 inches. They're almost five feet tall. bigger than I thought. That's Nate gets that scary. I would have been so scared. She's Jane. So that's what I'm saying. We were seeing a lot of the mom. We weren't. She didn't get a lot of that close up video of David Greybeard or the other the alpha guy, you know, the big dog. they're probably but this is average height. So they were bigger than five feet tall. Damn, that's six foot tall chimpanzee. I just six foot tall chimpanzee should be hoping. OK, number six. After her death, who described Jane Goodall as a dear friend? King Charles, Donald Trump, Stevie Wonder, Leonardo DiCaprio. Great selection of choices. Yeah, this is wild. Really good. Who was the first one again? King Charles, Donald Trump, Stevie Wonder, Leonardo DiCaprio. It's got to be. It's gotta be Stevie Wonder for some reason. It's gotta be Stevie Wonder. I'm gonna, I'm gonna say King Charles. Leonardo DiCaprio. How does, how does that relationship develop? I am so proud of that quiz question. It's good. It's good. He's, know, Leo dis, he's done some conservation stuff. Yes, that's his. Yes. And so I put Stevie Wonder because he was also with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jane Goodall at some event. And then I was like, well, then who Trump? It's easy. Yeah. Yeah. Just masterful. Charles. Masterful question. Thank you. Yeah. So Nate is Nate is, think, won the quiz. But this we're still answering because. Number seven, how much did Jane the documentary make at the box office? This is not I even know they was a box office release back in 2017 It's a my go. No I'll say it made 280 thousand dollars This brought in 1.6 million dollars this got 1.6 written all over it this got 1.8 I'll take it. I'll take it. I'll take it. That's you. You needed that. did. Listen. We have to break this down again. We have to restudy. There's no way it's 98.7. think it's less. I feel like Charles Darwin right now. This is exactly what he went through. I'm in the 64 to 66 percent range. That's how similar we are. Congratulations. This is your third or fourth consecutive win. Wow. It's been a few in a row. I'm on a pretty hot streak right now. I feel like a monkey on a branch. And when someone wins a quiz, we spell out their name together. N, A, T, E, exclamation point, exclamation point, underline, underline. I got that one wrong the first go round. I said explanation. That's all right. I think people kind of come to expect it from you. You're at the point now where you can do it either or and people are like, oh, she's doing the bit or she's not doing the bit. It's either or. Exactly. It's never a bit and it wasn't a bit last time. Don't admit that. Never admit a bit, but a bit. See, never admit about a bit. Never a bit. I don't even know what to say to that. I give you a 10 out of 10 for your quiz. Would you guys like to give this movie a rating? Sure would. No, wait. Sure. I give you a gold medal for your quiz. Would you guys like to give this movie some medals? Sure. So many. think a monkey is going to get a medal, which is good. So who gets our bronze? I'm giving my bronze to Hugo. It was I'm only giving mine to human actors. Yeah. And Hugo gets mine. I see it. He's kind of cute. Oh, he could get it. You're stuck in the jungle with Hugo. You're going to smooch him. I you're probably going to get you're looking at fucking dirty monkeys all day. All of a sudden, that Baron's looking pretty good. Yeah. And Jane is pretty. Jane's a pretty lady. this you know what? I forgot. I did have one thought while I was watching this movie because it was so full of color. I was like, this is like the singing in the rain of nature documentaries. It's so colorful. Everyone's waist is snatched. Just looking great. The hair is in Outfits. Amazing. Like everybody's in shape. Yeah. Yeah. How about you, Brent? By bronze is definitely going to ⁓ boy. ⁓ yeah, we'll give it to, ⁓ Hugo. I mean, he did his thing, took his camera out in the woods, took some pictures and got married. mean, it's a good life. He set himself up for success. Like I'm the only dude out here. It's me or a monkey. Yep. Yep. Okay. That's how I want to end it. Me or a monkey. I'm also going to make it a turkey sandwich. I'm going to give my medal to Hugo. I'm going to give it to Hugo. He's shot some great shots and always got a big old cigar chopping on that thing while he's working. I like that. I that drove the monkeys away. I'm sure that probably terrible. They wouldn't let you do it now. Yeah, there's no way they'd let you. But back back then in the 60s, you were allowed to touch the monkeys. You're allowed to smoke cigars around them. You probably could let them smoke a cigar if you really wanted to. Yeah. Yeah. So, bronze medal for Hugo. Good head of hair. Yep. Silver goes to Grubb, goes to the little kid that grew up in the frickin jungle. I mean, who had his childhood? What a life. What a life. Even though you have to be in a cage for a bit because the monkeys are too crazy. That is, you know, that must probably tell. The way she talked about it, though, is like such a loving mother way. But we made it really nice and he couldn't even tell. We had some mobiles in the cage. Exactly. He was playing around. ⁓ He ⁓ went on to get married and live in Tanzania and build boats. When I saw when they said they called him a master boat builder, I was like, I would love to know what that means. But I would love to be a master boat builder. He's like Adam Sandler, 50 first dates. Lives somewhere remote and builds a boat. Good life. Rob Schneider is your friend. Who gets your silver, Brent? ⁓ it's definitely going to go to Jane Goodall. Most famous Jane, I would say out there. Fonda? No, fuck Jane Fonda. hot take. What are we doing with Jane? What did she do? Listen, I prefer good all to Fonda, but that's tough too. But I love Jane Fonda. ⁓ my goodness. I didn't know. I didn't know. I'm so sorry. She's big dog. If you want to see a female big dog, Jane Fonda is. There's no doubt in my mind that she is a big dog. She married Ted Turner, took half his money. ⁓ that's big dog shit. That's a big dog move. Not only she do that. He loved her till he died. That's how much of a big dog she is. I didn't even know Ted Turner died. everyone's learning something today. ⁓ Yeah, she's most famous Jane, obviously. She was the first to do it, hung out with the chimps. Imagine your friend looking at you and say, hey, I'm going to go move to Africa and hang out with some monkeys. All right, man, see you later. And she just did it. And that gets her her silver medal. I'm going to give my silver medal to Flo, my favorite monkey, because of her little ears, her little circle ears, her nose. Good mom. just holding it down. Pillar of the community. Died doing what she loved, crossing the stream. She just fell over. Died. Yeah, that was tough watching. Watching her son poker. There you go, bro. Flo. Blow my favorite monkey. ⁓ And my goal goes to Jane, just what a what a just someone we could all look up to, just like a really great inspiration for all of us and. And so poised just the definition of poise, just really great. Yeah, look up boys in the dictionary and picture Jane, ⁓ my gold medal go into the scene stealer themselves, Flint. ⁓ just said, fuck it. I'm just going to peace out. This is it for me. Broken heart. Had enough. And that's everybody can relate to that. And he wasn't even, he was like four years old. like a teenager. He's had his whole life. He saw enough. And he's like, these people have brought polio. There's banana wars breaking out. Everyone's dead. No one cares about me. I'm just going to lay down. And he did, and everyone can relate to that. Flint, gold medal. Gave up. Huge. Yeah. One of the cutest monkeys featured in this film. Absolutely. I'm giving my gold to Jane. just I always liked her. She reminds me of my grandmother. ⁓ Poised is a great word. Kate. Brave would be a great word. ⁓ Important would be a good word. She I liked how she understood that she had this celebrity that even though she had no desire for it, she's like, OK, well, I'm going to just use it. If I if you're going to force me, like, I'll go and raise that money. She's just a badass. No, it's a good word to describe her. First, first. First, you know. I give us a gold medal for all of our metal. Would you guys like to give this movie a rating? Absolutely, I would. I'd like to rate it on several levels. They should change OG. If you're the first to do something, it should be called the good all like you good all that. ⁓ or you Jane did. We can start that here. Jane did. that here. we remember. did. You JG did. Nope. I won't be able to get that out in time. Jane did. It's no. Say it real quick. No, say it slowly first. J. JG did. JG. No, I can tell my Teeth are way too big for that. My tongue is not big. You always say that and you don't have weird big teeth. My tongue can't get around this set ivory that quick. G G. See? Fucked it up right away. Let's move on. J.G. The script for this movie, ⁓ it's a documentary film, but documentary films do have scripts. A lot of this is based on her book, like her narrating parts of her book and telling the story. And I think the story is told in a really, it unfolds really nicely. The pace is correct as you're like, you start in this kind of like. exploration part and then it gets kind of scary in the middle. They do like black and white footage and it's like all the monkeys are fighting and killing each other like, ⁓ kind of scary. They're getting really mad and shaking the boxes and stuff. I thought this was great. I'm to give it a nine. It's great. I will agree with you. I didn't know what to give it. So I agree with you. ⁓ So the title is Jane, but you're a lot of it's about the monkey. ⁓ what it has gotten good views. If it's just called Monkey, probably not. I'll give it an eight. Yeah, especially since there's no monkeys in it. It would have been really confusing. The art direction of this movie, the sets, the costumes, the jungle is the ultimate set. It's one of the ultimate sets the humans have ever come across. It's you could spend a million billion dollars and it's not going to look as green and verdant as the jungle. The jungle. I the word verdant. Yeah. Jane's outfits. Every fit of it. Yeah. Yeah. Not only not only does it fit tailored perfect, but it's practical that she needed to wear the clothes in order to do her scientific work. Hugo's pulling off tops, pulling off sunnies, pulling off high waisted ⁓ cargo shorts. The babies little cute onesies. Yeah, it gets a 10. This is 10 for me. Perfect. Yeah, I was you know what I scenery and set design is huge for me when it comes to movies. It's one of the things I always look for is who designed the set who was in charge of the set design. Yeah, who just who designed the set. And luckily, the cast of Jane decided to hire the ultimate set designer. And that's God created. God hired or they got God got the job and he says, you know what? Here's your backdrop. See what you got. You young kids can do. Have fun with your camera. And so what do you think this movie gets? Oh, uh, 10. Yeah, it's a 10. Can't give God any less than a 10. mean, I thought that was implied, but okay. You've been reading that Bible. You know better than that. He's gotten mad over a lot less. I know what could happen. Do you think I'm getting smited over a bunch of monkeys? I don't think so. I don't get smooth. This movie actually features a score by contemporary American legendary composer Philip Glass. Philip Glass, it's already full. It's full of music that the glass is already full of music. It's brimming. They should call them brimming glass of music. It's a 10. It sounds it's incredible. And it made the movie so good. I ⁓ really love Philip Glass and I listen to him casually. And sometimes his stuff can be a little too repetitive for me, but I really liked this Philip Glass because it seemed more lyrical. And I, so it was like perfect. If I could give the Silda 11, I would. ⁓ it's good. ⁓ it would have been better with C from the human side, CCR songs. And from the monkey side, Led Zeppelin songs. And then that would have been, I gave it a 10, so it gets a nine. Pitcher like, yeah, like when the levee breaks and like immigrant song. What on the branches? See, Grub gets born. They play fortunate son. Yeah. No, you actually are. Swim like just. What a life. You can speak Swahili. He walking around. Yes. And they had to teach him what was safe and what wasn't like you would in the jungle. Is this what Australian people are like? I feel like probably Australian. Probably. Yeah. Yeah. Little kids pick up snakes. This is a biographical documentary film. It's got to be a documentary that includes a biography. I learned about Jane's whole life. I learned literally from the moment she was born, what she was up to, her divorce, her childhood. I learned so much. This was great. This was a wonderful biography that I would recommend to any person because it's so beautiful to watch and she's so inspiring. I give it a 10. I do too. Yeah, I assumed, you know how you always think, Einstein is from the like the 1500s. I thought Jane Goodall was like in the 1700s. ⁓ But very refreshing to know that she was current up to date. I didn't know that. And I didn't know about that she was the first one with the stick in the hole. So yeah, 10. 10. I always assumed Jane Goodall was like way back. With Jesus. Yeah, like Jesus times. Like that's what I thought. They should have had a disciple named Jane. Yeah. Why were there no lady disciples? Sex is a man. can't even get into it. Patriarchy. can't even get into it. Bullshit. Nature documentaries. Yeah, I've seen a lot of really great nature documentaries and this I would put among them. Would I put it as like one of the best nature documentaries I've ever seen? One of the no. So nine point five. Yeah, I will give it a nine. I will give it an eight because it's a Jane Goodall documentary more than it is a nature document. OK, I think that's fair. OK, we forgot to guess and I saw the score. So why don't you two guess what the score is? And then it's a 40. It's a forty three point four. It's a forty six. Kate wins this one. was a forty seven point two is a fantastic film. It's a wonderful film. Carried by the monkeys. Forty seven point two. Forty seven point two. We scored it to slightly above Fight Club. Yep. I'd rather watch this. I could watch this one again tonight. I could. It'll be a while before I Fight Club. Yeah, I won't do Fight Club so soon. I could again. But fast forward to the parts I like, which are when Brad Pitt doesn't have a top on. Sure. Which is a lot of it. Wouldn't watch Fight Club again. Now we got to pick a movie next week. Do you have one, Brad? Yeah, we're leaving the comforts and the beauty of the jungle. We're going underwater. We're going to watch My Octopus Teacher. I've been wanting to see this too. Octopuses are really cool. Octopi. We're to see about that. We're going to see about that. ⁓ I have my doubts. I hear they're like aliens. I hear octopus could be alien. Yeah, well, I'm gonna we're gonna find we're get to the bottom of it. See, say the movie one more time. My octopus teacher. Well, that's what we're going to watch next week. And I cannot wait to do it. that means all that's to do is say goodnight, Kate. Good night, Kate. saying. She taught me was to feel that you part of this. Just a bright day. It's always noon on North American Friends Movie Club. It's always noon on North American Friends Movie Club. That's right.
