- 0:01Speaker 1: This is parent Data. I'm Emily Oster. At the risk
- 0:05Speaker 1: of getting a little mushy, parent data is kind of
- 0:09Speaker 1: like another kid for me. You conceive something, you just
- 0:12Speaker 1: state it, you think about it a lot in the
- 0:15Speaker 1: middle of the night, you put it out into the world,
- 0:19Speaker 1: and you hope, with a lot of luck and a
- 0:21Speaker 1: lot of guidance, that it thrives. This last five years
- 0:27Speaker 1: of parent Data have been a wild ride. I went
- 0:30Speaker 1: from a plan for writing a newsletter to a few
- 0:33Speaker 1: thousand readers twice a month, to providing COVID guidance to
- 0:37Speaker 1: hundreds of thousands of people, to this current moment, when
- 0:41Speaker 1: this is a full fledged startup with a website, subscriptions,
- 0:44Speaker 1: and an amazing internal team that supports all the work.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Startups and kids have a lot in common. They demand
- 0:52Speaker 1: your time and your energy. They provide both very high
- 0:56Speaker 1: highs and very low lows. Require prioritization. You always need
- 1:03Speaker 1: to think about what extracurriculars you want to sign up for,
- 1:06Speaker 1: what's worth experimenting with, what's worth pursuing, and what to
- 1:09Speaker 1: stop piano soccer making a podcast. We've been producing the
- 1:19Speaker 1: parent Data podcast since the fall of twenty twenty three.
- 1:22Speaker 1: We here is me and my extraordinary producer Tomorrow. Over
- 1:29Speaker 1: the course of over sixty episodes, I've had the chance
- 1:32Speaker 1: to talk to so many incredible thinkers, journalists, medical professionals,
- 1:36Speaker 1: mental health professionals. We've gabbed about placentas and baby salting,
- 1:41Speaker 1: peanut allergies, and screen time, sleep and summer camp. That
- 1:47Speaker 1: was my favorite episode. We've been true to our mission,
- 1:51Speaker 1: which is to provide the best data driven analysis to
- 1:54Speaker 1: your most pressing parenting concerns, but with an extra human
- 1:58Speaker 1: touch of hearing real people talk about their real kids
- 2:02Speaker 1: and their real passions and their fears. And you've heard
- 2:05Speaker 1: me talk about my own kids' births, my own pelvic floor,
- 2:10Speaker 1: my anecdotal experience with device hygiene, my marriage, basically all
- 2:15Speaker 1: of my own idiosyncratic parenting journeys. And we've had an
- 2:20Speaker 1: amazing response from you. You've contributed your own voices, your questions.
- 2:25Speaker 1: You've written to us to say when something particularly touched you,
- 2:29Speaker 1: or to tell me what you feel I've gotten wrong,
- 2:33Speaker 1: and more than anything, you've been listening. And that means
- 2:36Speaker 1: more to Tomorrow and I than you can imagine. But
- 2:42Speaker 1: now it's time to hang it up, at least for
- 2:44Speaker 1: the time being. We've got so much happening and more
- 2:48Speaker 1: in the pipeline, and I'm looking forward to giving my
- 2:50Speaker 1: voice arrest and letting my fingers do more talking. Writing
- 2:54Speaker 1: has always been my favorite and it's still where I
- 2:57Speaker 1: want to spend more of my time. Plus, as of
- 3:00Speaker 1: this recording, Tamor's having her baby literally any minute now,
- 3:05Speaker 1: and I think we're all looking forward to a well
- 3:08Speaker 1: deserved break. But first some thank you. Thank you to
- 3:13Speaker 1: all our guests for their time, their honesty, their insights.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Thank you to PRX for their generous hosting, and to
- 3:20Speaker 1: the Parent Data team for all their invaluable help with feedback, participation,
- 3:24Speaker 1: partnerships and always being willing to be an extra set
- 3:28Speaker 1: of ears. And thank you especially to my producer Tomorrow
- 3:33Speaker 1: of Ashy for really being everything here. If you ever
- 3:37Speaker 1: get a chance to make a podcast, I hope that
- 3:39Speaker 1: you have a partner as extraordinary as Tomorrow, someone who
- 3:43Speaker 1: holds everything to the very very highest standard and is
- 3:47Speaker 1: willing to say drive to a summer camp and talk
- 3:51Speaker 1: to kids about their friendship bracelets. Thank you, Tomorrow, really
- 3:55Speaker 1: thank you, And finally thanks to you for listen. Thank
- 4:01Speaker 1: you for sharing episodes and episode ideas, and I hope
- 4:04Speaker 1: you'll continue to share the episodes that helped you or
- 4:06Speaker 1: challenged you or felt meaningful to you. We are really
- 4:10Speaker 1: proud to have this resource Evergreen, out in the world,
- 4:14Speaker 1: right Penelope, Right, mam. That's goodbye for now.
