• 2:04
Speaker 3: We'll talk to both on the show, and we'll get
• 2:06
Speaker 3: to some other things happening in the news as well.
• 2:10
Speaker 3: It is a happy day for this guy, though, because
• 2:12
Speaker 3: he's about to wrap up his long journey walking from
• 2:15
Speaker 3: Charleston to Morgantown to deliver that big old check for
• 2:18
Speaker 3: WU Children's Hospital, made possible by you, the wonderful listeners
• 2:22
Speaker 3: of the WVRC media stations, want to bring in for
• 2:25
Speaker 3: the final time, well not the final time, because we
• 2:27
Speaker 3: have him on next week with a recap, but for
• 2:29
Speaker 3: the final time out of the walk, Rob Reel from
• 2:30
Speaker 3: her sister station ninety six to one KWS from somewhere, Rob,
• 2:34
Speaker 3: good morning. I mean you decided that you're going to
• 3:03
Speaker 3: go big or go home on Morgantown because you're going
• 3:05
Speaker 3: into that western area, man. I mean, that's that's And
• 3:08
Speaker 3: by the way, it just so happens that our first
• 3:10
Speaker 3: guest on the show today is a candidate for a
• 3:12
Speaker 3: House of Delegates. But she's also a nurse, so I
• 3:15
Speaker 3: have just think now she's a nick you nurse, Okay,
• 3:17
Speaker 3: so you're a little old for that, but I got Sarah,
• 3:21
Speaker 3: Sarah Drennan is in studio. We're going to talk to
• 3:23
Speaker 3: her a little bit later on, but she's she's standing by,
• 3:26
Speaker 3: although it's not gonna do us a lot of good
• 3:27
Speaker 3: in Charleston. I guess right. We'll be talking to her
• 3:34
Speaker 3: in just a little bit. So again, just kind of
• 3:38
Speaker 3: review this whole thing. And these are your words. Sometimes, Rob,
• 3:43
Speaker 3: you let your big mouth write a check that the
• 3:45
Speaker 3: rest of you can't cash. That was your words, by
• 3:49
Speaker 3: the way, no pun intended. And you told the listeners
• 3:51
Speaker 3: that if if they helped raise the money, that you
• 3:54
Speaker 3: would walk that check from our studios at eleven eleven
• 3:57
Speaker 3: Virginia Street in Charleston all the way to WVU Children's
• 4:00
Speaker 3: in Morgantown. And unless your calves literally explode, you're gonna
• 4:05
Speaker 3: make it around one o'clock or so. Here you are,
• 4:40
Speaker 3: and so you're gonn arrive at about one o'clock. Now I
• 4:42
Speaker 3: saw your and I actually posted it and shared it
• 4:44
Speaker 3: on my on my radio page. Why are you dressed
• 4:48
Speaker 3: like you are? I know it's Halloween, but even for Halloween.
• 4:52
Speaker 3: I know it's Halloween, but are you go ahead?
• 5:00
  Speaker 5: Kay?
• 5:25
Speaker 3: And what is the costume? For those that haven't seen
• 5:27
Speaker 3: it yet, Daffy duck. He's so so it's not unusual.
• 5:34
Speaker 3: It's not unusual in Morgantown to see a middle aged
• 5:37
Speaker 3: man walking through Westover Uh in a duck costume. It
• 5:42
Speaker 3: could happen at any time, right, m There you go, there,
• 5:55
Speaker 3: you go, well, Rob, you in all seriousness, and you
• 5:57
Speaker 3: and I have known each other since how long? How
• 5:59
Speaker 3: long have you been back here in Charleston like? And
• 6:05
Speaker 3: I wasn't here the first time you were around. But
• 6:07
Speaker 3: you and I go back and forth all the time
• 6:09
  Speaker 3: with each other. I think we're I think we're pretty
• 6:11
Speaker 3: good friends. And I will say this in all seriousness
• 6:14
Speaker 3: because we're never never serious with each other. I am
• 6:16
Speaker 3: sincerely proud of you for doing this. I mean really, man,
• 6:19
Speaker 3: I mean you set out on this and you said,
• 6:21
Speaker 3: I'm gonna walk this big old check to Morgantown. And
• 6:24
Speaker 3: I said, okay, Rob, you're you're obviously drunk. You weren't drunk,
• 6:27
Speaker 3: you were totally sober, and you agreed to do this.
• 6:30
Speaker 3: You're a man of your word, and you walk through
• 6:32
Speaker 3: some beautiful country. By the way, people have not been
• 6:34
Speaker 3: following you. Go back and look at the ninety six
• 6:36
Speaker 3: one KWS Facebook page and you can see all the
• 6:39
Speaker 3: scenery because you know, Sarah, they wouldn't let him walk
• 6:41
Speaker 3: on the interstate, so he had to walk all of
• 6:43
Speaker 3: the back roads and he got to see some beautiful,
• 6:46
Speaker 3: beautiful fall foliage on the way up there. But we're
• 6:50
Speaker 3: all proud of you. If I had more people that, well,
• 6:52
Speaker 3: Sarah and I will apologize or will applaud for you,
• 6:55
Speaker 3: but maybe apologize too. But we're proud of you. Man.
• 6:59
  Speaker 3: It's great with you've done. And I know that you're
• 7:01
Speaker 3: gonna have pictures posted throughout the day on the KWS
• 7:04
Speaker 3: Facebook page. And once you get out of that giant
• 7:08
Speaker 3: waiting pool of Ebsom salt and we have you in
• 7:11
Speaker 3: studio next week, I will uh, well, we'll we'll kind
• 7:14
Speaker 3: of review everything. How does that sound? No, And we
• 7:39
Speaker 3: had a text here, says Dave. Congratulations to Rob Reel.
• 7:42
Speaker 3: He's a man of his words and it's physically tough.
• 7:44
Speaker 3: Great job, Rob, says a Texter. All right, well, uh,
• 7:53
Speaker 3: I mean only Robriel could say he's uncomfortable with praise,
• 7:56
Speaker 3: but not with walking around Morgantown in a duck suit.
• 7:59
Speaker 3: He has no issue you with that? All right?
• 8:01
  Speaker 6: All right?
• 8:02
  Speaker 7: Rob?
• 8:02
Speaker 3: Uh, We'll be watching the Facebook page later today for
• 8:06
Speaker 3: all the pictures, and one day next week, once you
• 8:08
Speaker 3: rested up, I'll have you back in studio. Man, I
• 8:10
Speaker 3: appreciate it, and God bless you for what you did. Buddy.
• 8:12
Speaker 3: You're a man of your word. You pulled it off.
• 8:14
Speaker 3: Well you're not there, you're not there yet, and you
• 8:17
Speaker 3: did and you did remember the check because we were
• 8:21
Speaker 3: worried about this, Sarah. We were worried that he would
• 8:23
Speaker 3: get up there and realize he forgot the check and
• 8:25
Speaker 3: then have to walk back. The check is with you, right,
• 8:32
Speaker 3: all right? Rob, We'll talk to you soon.
• 8:34
  Speaker 7: Man.
• 8:34
Speaker 3: Thanks a lot, and big shout out to the folks
• 8:37
Speaker 3: at Panhandle Cleaning Restoration because they made that entire thing possible,
• 8:41
Speaker 3: that walk from like you, he told me he was
• 8:44
Speaker 3: going to do this. And I've known Rob, as I said,
• 8:46
Speaker 3: for about a year and a half since he came
• 8:47
Speaker 3: back to work here at KWS, and I thought, Okay,
• 8:50
Speaker 3: he's obviously he's lost his mind, and apparently he did,
• 8:54
  Speaker 3: but it's for a great cause and he's a man
• 8:55
Speaker 3: of his word. He pulled it off. The walk from
• 8:57
Speaker 3: Charleston to Morgantown. He he's only got about six more
• 9:01
Speaker 3: miles left is what they say, because he actually went
• 9:03
Speaker 3: above and beyond on certain days what he allotted. So
• 9:06
Speaker 3: that's good stuff there. But Dave allan chilling five dyl

• 9:33
Speaker 3: her sort of in the background there. Sarah Drennan is here.
• 9:36
Speaker 3: She's a Republican running for House in District twenty. She
• 9:38
Speaker 3: joined us now in the Parmar Store studio. Sarah, good morning,
• 9:40
Speaker 3: welcome to the show.
• 9:41
Speaker 5: Good morning, Dave, thanks for having me.
• 9:42
Speaker 3: I we have to give you definitely a little bit
• 9:44
  Speaker 3: more microphone there.
• 9:45
Speaker 5: Thank you, Dave for having me.
• 9:46
Speaker 6: I'm glad to be here.
• 9:47
Speaker 3: Well, thank you for being When you think about that
• 9:48
  Speaker 3: I mean you're you're a nurse and wouldn't get into
• 9:50
Speaker 3: that a little bit later on by trade, but somebody
• 9:52
Speaker 3: walking from Charleston Morgantown, that's that's pretty.
• 9:55
Speaker 5: Big, stiff, really ambitious, but at fantastic at the same time,
• 9:58
Speaker 5: Like he's got to be in good shape to be
• 9:59
Speaker 5: able to make that kind of trek. And what better
• 10:02
Speaker 5: cause than to support a children's hospital.
• 10:04
Speaker 3: And this is something that you know a lot about
• 10:06
Speaker 3: because of your profession. And I'll go ahead and get
• 10:08
Speaker 3: that out there now, two folks, what you do for
• 10:09
  Speaker 3: a living.
• 10:10
Speaker 5: So I'm a nickey nurse at Cable Huntington. I've done
• 10:12
Speaker 5: it for almost twenty one years now, and so I
• 10:14
Speaker 5: get to work with the tiniest of babies and help
• 10:17
Speaker 5: complete families. So I have the best job in the world.
• 10:19
Speaker 3: Give us a little background on you personally, you're bio.
• 10:21
Speaker 3: Whatever you want to share.
• 10:22
Speaker 5: With us, Okay. So I'm a wife and mother of
• 10:26
Speaker 5: two teenage boys. We live in Winfield now, we had
• 10:29
Speaker 5: been in hurric In prior. Thankfully, I've got a great
• 10:33
Speaker 5: job and a wonderful family, and I've been able to
• 10:36
Speaker 5: also be involved in the school system, so I've been
• 10:38
Speaker 5: able to be the homeroom mom and the math tutor
• 10:40
Speaker 5: and run copies for teachers and on PTO boards. And
• 10:43
Speaker 5: then we're also active in our church as well, so
• 10:46
Speaker 5: I get to be involved in a lot of different
• 10:49
Speaker 5: venues to serve. That's essentially what I'm here for is
• 10:52
Speaker 5: to help make our state a little bit better, make
• 10:54
Speaker 5: our communities better, and ultimately, I just want to be
• 10:57
Speaker 5: the best servant that I can essentially.
• 11:00
Speaker 3: So that being said, why do you want to be
• 11:01
  Speaker 3: in the legislature?
• 11:03
Speaker 5: My goal is to help create an economy in West
• 11:05
Speaker 5: Virginia so that our next generation doesn't have to leave,
• 11:09
Speaker 5: so that they choose to raise their families here because honestly,
• 11:12
Speaker 5: as a selfish mom, I don't want my kids to
• 11:14
Speaker 5: have to leave to find good jobs. I'm sure that's
• 11:16
Speaker 5: the general consensus of most people. But at the same time,
• 11:20
Speaker 5: bring in younger generations from other areas as well, because
• 11:23
Speaker 5: we have a great state, we have a lot to offer.
• 11:24
Speaker 5: And I think is if we can build the economy,
• 11:27
Speaker 5: we can build the industry, then it won't just be jobs,
• 11:32
Speaker 5: that will be careers that will continue to feed and
• 11:34
  Speaker 5: grow our state.
• 11:36
Speaker 3: And I was reading last night doing some research Sarah,
• 11:39
Speaker 3: over some of your endorsements, and you have quite a few,
• 11:41
Speaker 3: including West Virginians for Life. Why was that endorsement important
• 11:44
  Speaker 3: to you?
• 11:45
Speaker 5: Well, the youngest babies that we have personally saved and
• 11:48
Speaker 5: worked with at the hospital is twenty two weeks, and
• 11:51
Speaker 5: so personally, I believe that life begins at conception. It's
• 11:55
Speaker 5: they actually if you go back and look at the
• 11:57
Speaker 5: cellular level, there's a flash of light when an egenance
• 12:01
Speaker 5: firm meat. That is the flash of life that is created.
• 12:05
Speaker 5: And with medicine, there's so many things we can do.
• 12:08
Speaker 5: We're so capable of saving and growing these babies once
• 12:13
Speaker 5: they're born, and so personally, if we can continue to
• 12:18
Speaker 5: save lives, whether it's something that it's created under not
• 12:23
Speaker 5: necessarily the best instances, but even if a lot of
• 12:28
Speaker 5: times with mom's health being at risk, there's been many
• 12:31
Speaker 5: cases where babies have been delivered early so that moms
• 12:34
Speaker 5: can get, you know, the treatment that they need and
• 12:36
Speaker 5: to be able to take these babies and grow them
• 12:39
Speaker 5: and then complete a family, whether it's through adoption, whether
• 12:42
Speaker 5: it's through biologic or fostering. Every life matters.
• 12:47
Speaker 3: Talk about the district, Sarah, what areas were talking about?
• 12:50
Speaker 3: And what do you see the biggest needs of District twenty?
• 12:53
Speaker 3: First to find the district. You know what areas we're
• 12:55
Speaker 3: talking about, and what do you see is the biggest
• 12:56
Speaker 3: needs of those districts.
• 12:58
Speaker 5: So District twenty is composed of part of Hurricane Scott
• 13:02
  Speaker 5: Depot and Windfield.
• 13:06
  Speaker 6: It's population base.
• 13:07
Speaker 5: But essentially it looks like somebody close their eyes and
• 13:09
Speaker 5: drew a random line as far as where the lines go.
• 13:13
Speaker 5: But what I've talked to different businesses and different members
• 13:16
Speaker 5: through throughout the community and transportation seems to be a
• 13:19
Speaker 5: really big one as far as getting people where they
• 13:22
Speaker 5: need to go. We're not a big city, so we
• 13:24
Speaker 5: don't have big city transportation. Another issue is childcare. Childcare
• 13:29
Speaker 5: is huge, whether it's daycares or honestly in our area specifically,
• 13:36
Speaker 5: we have a lot of grandparents raising kids and respite
• 13:41
Speaker 5: care for those instances so that grandparents can go to
• 13:44
Speaker 5: doctor's appointments and not have to take little kids with
• 13:46
Speaker 5: them as well. Is something that has been brought to
• 13:49
Speaker 5: my attention that I hope to be able to make
• 13:51
  Speaker 5: a difference with.
• 13:53
Speaker 3: You're you and your opponent, either one whether you win
• 13:56
Speaker 3: or your opponent wins. There's going to be a new
• 13:59
Speaker 3: a new kid on the block, so to speak, representing
• 14:01
Speaker 3: District twenty. Are you prepared for that?
• 14:03
Speaker 5: Honestly, I've like to go with the fact that I'm
• 14:06
Speaker 5: smart enough to know that I don't know everything. I
• 14:08
Speaker 5: have a lot to learn, and there's a lot of
• 14:11
Speaker 5: really experienced people that I've been able to draw from,
• 14:15
Speaker 5: ask questions from, and ultimately, like I said, my goal
• 14:19
Speaker 5: is to get in and serve and just make our
• 14:22
Speaker 5: state and my constituents be a representative for them.
• 14:26
Speaker 3: Where can people learn more about your campaign? You got
• 14:28
Speaker 3: a website or social media?
• 14:29
Speaker 5: You want to both social media on Facebook, we have
• 14:33
Speaker 5: Drennen for House. My personal email is Sarah at Drennan
• 14:38
Speaker 5: number four house dot com and then my website is
• 14:41
Speaker 5: Drennin for House as well. Please, if you have questions,
• 14:45
Speaker 5: reach out. I'm happy to interact and talk to people
• 14:47
Speaker 5: if you want to know anything about me, or like
• 14:49
Speaker 5: I said, if there's any concerns or things that you
• 14:52
Speaker 5: need help with. Like I said, it's a civil service.
• 14:57
  Speaker 6: That's what we're here.
• 14:57
Speaker 5: For is to help our state and communities. So that's
• 15:00
  Speaker 5: my goal.
• 15:01
Speaker 3: Give me the final thirty. Why should someone vote for
• 15:03
Speaker 3: Sarah Drennan for House of Delegates.
• 15:04
Speaker 5: District twenty because you're not going to find somebody who
• 15:08
Speaker 5: is truly has a heart for service and wants to
• 15:13
Speaker 5: make a difference in our state and our communities. Because,
• 15:16
  Speaker 5: like I said, that's that's why we're here. It's not
• 15:18
Speaker 5: about accolades, it's not about position. It's just about trying
• 15:21
Speaker 5: to make our area a better place for not only
• 15:24
Speaker 5: our generation, but for the generations to come, because that's
• 15:26
Speaker 5: the future of our state.
• 15:28
Speaker 3: Sarah Drennan, a Republican candidate for District twenty in the
• 15:31
Speaker 3: House of Delegates. I appreciate you being here. Thanks a lot.
• 15:33

Speaker 3: Steven Good morning. Just two days away from the first
• 19:49
Speaker 3: and only Goobernatorial debate between Republican Patrick Morrissey and Democrats
• 19:52
  Speaker 3: Steve Williams.
• 19:53
Speaker 10: Yes, Yes, read Hoppy's column today. I have to agree
• 19:57
Speaker 10: with Happy. It's what we talked about Tuesday night and
• 20:00
Speaker 10: Wednesday morning. I thought it was a very civil debate.
• 20:05
Speaker 10: I thought both candidates did a great job articulating what
• 20:11
Speaker 10: they believe in. I think Hopey did a good job.
• 20:13
Speaker 10: I know he didn't get to everything he wanted to ask,
• 20:17
Speaker 10: and I gotta tell you it was interesting to me.
• 20:19
Speaker 10: Amilia nicely pointed this out that it was very kind
• 20:22
Speaker 10: of front heavy, wefty education conversation, which I thought was
• 20:27
Speaker 10: good because I feel like that's going to be a
• 20:29
Speaker 10: big focus going into the next legislative session. Obviously, school
• 20:33
Speaker 10: choice is still going to be a big thing, but
• 20:34
Speaker 10: I also think that we're going to have to see
• 20:37
Speaker 10: some probably a good look at public education, how we funded,
• 20:42
Speaker 10: how counties were organized and do their things, especially with
• 20:46
Speaker 10: all the school consolidation. So it was nice to hear
• 20:48
Speaker 10: both candidates kind of talk about that particular issue. But
• 20:51
Speaker 10: I thought it went great. I thought it was good.
• 20:53
Speaker 10: Just wish it could have happened sooner so voters could
• 20:55
Speaker 10: have gotten that information going into early voting.
• 20:58
Speaker 3: Along those same lines. I'm going to agree, Steven with
• 21:01
Speaker 3: something that Hoppy said yesterday. I this is just me speaking.
• 21:04
  Speaker 3: I think it's a it's a real shame that the
• 21:06
Speaker 3: voters didn't get to see a debate between Glenn Elliot
• 21:09
Speaker 3: and Jim Justice, you know, in the Senate race. And
• 21:12
Speaker 3: we all we all pretty much know. I know you're
• 21:15
Speaker 3: a journalist, so you got to watch what I don't
• 21:17
Speaker 3: have to say. I don't have to watch what I say. Conventionally, wisdom,
• 21:21
Speaker 3: everybody knows Jim Jim Justice is going to win this race, okay.
• 21:25
Speaker 3: And and I understand not wanting to debate. If you're
• 21:28
Speaker 3: already way ahead in the polls. You get into this, well,
• 21:30
Speaker 3: why would I? I could only lose ground. I completely
• 21:33
Speaker 3: understand that. Having worked on campaigns myself in the past,
• 21:36
Speaker 3: I get that. Uh so I know all the rules.
• 21:39
Speaker 3: But you know it's not again editorial comment on my behalf, Steven.
• 21:42
Speaker 3: It's not always about you the candidate. It really should
• 21:46
Speaker 3: be about the voting public. And I don't care what
• 21:48
Speaker 3: the party is, that's not important. But if you take
• 21:51
Speaker 3: the stance I don't need to debate just because I'm
• 21:53
Speaker 3: ahead in my opinion, it's just selfish. It's just selfish.
• 21:56
Speaker 10: That's just my two cents. No, I completely agree. That
• 21:58
Speaker 10: was my call in this week too. I really think
• 22:01
Speaker 10: you kind of owe it to people, not necessarily just
• 22:04
Speaker 10: to have the debate. You can have the debate or
• 22:06
Speaker 10: not have the debate, but you know, if there's actually
• 22:08
Speaker 10: a lot we don't know about where Jim Justice will
• 22:14
Speaker 10: vote on certain issues. Now you can make assumptions, yes
• 22:16
  Speaker 10: he's a Republican, he's running as a conservative, but we
• 22:20
Speaker 10: don't outside immigration, I think immigration and some energy issues,
• 22:24
Speaker 10: we really don't know that much about how he would
• 22:27
Speaker 10: vote on specific issues that are facing you know, members
• 22:30
Speaker 10: of Congress in the House or in the Senate. We
• 22:35
Speaker 10: do know where Glenn Elliott will be on these issues
• 22:38
Speaker 10: because he has put himself on the record on these
• 22:40
Speaker 10: issues and he has talked. We don't know that from
• 22:43
Speaker 10: you know, Governor Justice. So if nothing else, the debate
• 22:47
Speaker 10: would have brought out those issues and brought out his
• 22:50
Speaker 10: stances on those issues. So I do think you kind
• 22:53
Speaker 10: of owe it to the voters, even if you feel
• 22:55
Speaker 10: you're substantially ahead, to have that converse sation, whether it's
• 23:01
Speaker 10: a debate or a forum, which let's be honest, the
• 23:05
Speaker 10: Metro News event to see was really more of a
• 23:07
  Speaker 10: forum forum.
• 23:08
Speaker 3: That's what Hoppey called it.
• 23:08
Speaker 10: Ye yeah, which is great, but we need that information.
• 23:12
Speaker 10: We don't really have it.
• 23:14
Speaker 3: I would agree with that. But Dave Alan showing five

• 23:41
Speaker 3: Generation's Physical Therapy. Steven's on his phone over here right now.
• 23:44
Speaker 3: Go to Generations Physical Therapy. So all right, so let
• 23:48
Speaker 3: we'll get beyond that. So let's go back to the forum,
• 23:52
Speaker 3: if you will. Between Morrissey and Williams the other night,
• 23:54
Speaker 3: what were your your thoughts over all on the performance
• 23:59
Speaker 3: of either one. I don't ask journalists to pick winners
• 24:01
Speaker 3: and losers, but overall start with Steve Williams, I mean,
• 24:05
Speaker 3: your your thoughts overall.
• 24:06
Speaker 10: I thought Steve Williams did a good job when he
• 24:09
Speaker 10: was being asked to direct questions from Hoppy. I think
• 24:13
Speaker 10: where Steve Williams probably fumbled was in his efforts to
• 24:17
Speaker 10: try to criticize Patrick Morrissey. Now that's what you got
• 24:22
Speaker 10: to do. I mean, I've said this from the very beginning.
• 24:25
Speaker 10: In order to win this race, he's got to get
• 24:27
Speaker 10: Republicans to vote for him, because that is the majority
• 24:30
Speaker 10: of voter registration in this state now, so you need
• 24:33
Speaker 10: to peel off voters from Morrissey. I know that's what
• 24:37
Speaker 10: Steve Williams tried to do, but I feel like sometimes
• 24:39
Speaker 10: his attacks on Morrissey were a little clumsy, especially in
• 24:43
Speaker 10: regards to opioids. I got a story today kind of
• 24:45
Speaker 10: focused on the comments that were made in regards to
• 24:49
Speaker 10: the opioid crisis from both candidates, and I thought that
• 24:52
Speaker 10: trying to hit Morrissey with the whole lobbyist for pharmaceutical companies,
• 24:57
Speaker 10: which at this point has been more than fifteen years ago,
• 25:00
Speaker 10: and it's something he's been hit with over and over
• 25:02
Speaker 10: and over in every election he's had. And this is
• 25:04
Speaker 10: what I told Happy yesterday. This was probably the best
• 25:07
Speaker 10: response I've ever seen him have that question, because he
• 25:10
Speaker 10: really didn't get flustered by it. He just kind of
• 25:13
Speaker 10: pivoted talked about his issues creating to the West Virginia
• 25:17
Speaker 10: First Foundation and what they're going to do with the
• 25:19
Speaker 10: OPIO with money. And I thought it was clever pointing out,
• 25:22
Speaker 10: by the way, Mayor, you were at the press conference
• 25:24
Speaker 10: where I had announced the program and you were in
• 25:27
Speaker 10: supportive of it. I know because I covered that press conference,
• 25:30
Speaker 10: so I was there, and it's true. I thought it
• 25:32
Speaker 10: was all clever. Now, in regards to Morrissey, I thought
• 25:36
Speaker 10: I thought we've seen him for years now, and he's
• 25:39
  Speaker 10: a hard charging guy. He's a bulldog, And don't mean
• 25:42
Speaker 10: that as a pejorative. I just mean that, you know,
• 25:45
Speaker 10: he he's a fighter, and he especially in the political arena,
• 25:49
Speaker 10: I thought he came across as very measured, very calm,
• 25:52
Speaker 10: explained himself very well. He didn't fall back on the
• 25:55
Speaker 10: crutch of I'm supported by Trump. He now, he mentioned
• 25:58
Speaker 10: it a couple of times, but not that much as
• 26:00
Speaker 10: much as I thought that he would. And I thought
• 26:02
Speaker 10: he came across the looking gubernatorial.
• 26:05
Speaker 3: Yeah. I think I would agree with that. And again,
• 26:08
Speaker 3: conventional wisdom is with all due respect to Steve Williams,
• 26:11
Speaker 3: it's just so hard for a Democrat to win a
• 26:13
Speaker 3: statewide race right now that more more than likely we're
• 26:17
Speaker 3: going to be talking about a more seat administration for
• 26:18
Speaker 3: governor and a Jim Justice senator ship for lack of
• 26:22
Speaker 3: a better term. As we get close to election day,
• 26:26
Speaker 3: and of course early voting has already been going on
• 26:28
Speaker 3: and numbers are off the charts in our area for
• 26:31
Speaker 3: people that have done early voting, can all Putnam and
• 26:33
Speaker 3: surrounding areas. As we get closer to election day, is
• 26:37
Speaker 3: it possible that the Republicans get even stronger in the legislature,
• 26:41
Speaker 3: because I think it is maybe.
• 26:44
Speaker 10: I don't think they get much weaker. I think the
• 26:47
Speaker 10: one opportunity might be in the Senate for an additional
• 26:51
Speaker 10: Democratic pickup. Right now, there's three Democratic seats in the
• 26:54
Speaker 10: thirty four member state Senate. I've been told that the
• 26:58
Speaker 10: John Doyle Usher Rucker race in the eastern Panhandle might
• 27:02
Speaker 10: be closer to what people think. Yeah, I've heard that's
• 27:03
Speaker 10: a possibility as well, but I think it at least
• 27:07
Speaker 10: maintains three Democratic seats. I think Joey Garcia is gonna
• 27:10
Speaker 10: be fine. I think, uh, I think the seat for
• 27:14
Speaker 10: Bob Plymol. I think that's gonna probably stay in Democratic camps.
• 27:17
Speaker 10: Possibly over on the House side, that would be the opportunity.
• 27:21
Speaker 10: There's eleven Democrats in the hunterd member House. I think
• 27:23
Speaker 10: there is a real opportunity for that to drop to ten,
• 27:27
Speaker 10: maybe perhaps the nine. But I definitely don't see Democrats
• 27:32
Speaker 10: gaining any ground in the House. I could be wrong.
• 27:36
Speaker 10: I don't make predictions, but that is my that is
• 27:39
Speaker 10: my guess based on the politics I see in some
• 27:42
Speaker 10: of these races. I think they're especially here in Kanall County.
• 27:45
  Speaker 10: I think there's probably a chance for a Republican pick
• 27:47
Speaker 10: up on a seat. I think it's gonna be real
• 27:50
Speaker 10: tight that I think super majorities certainly stay and I
• 27:53
Speaker 10: don't think Republicans lose much strength.
• 27:55
Speaker 3: All Right, well, Steven, I know there's gonna be really
• 27:57
Speaker 3: busy as we all are over the next couple of days.
• 27:59
  Speaker 3: I won't l after the election, but let's go ahead
• 28:01
Speaker 3: and i'll get with you later. We'll plan on having
• 28:03
Speaker 3: you maybe a day or so after the election next week,
• 28:05
Speaker 3: and we'll kind of do a little recap. What do
• 28:06
Speaker 3: you think of our new temporary digs here?
• 28:08
Speaker 10: I love the temporary digs as a radio nerd. Hey,
• 28:13
Speaker 10: I like what I see here. I'm really excited for
• 28:15
Speaker 10: the new studio because I just want to see the
• 28:18
Speaker 10: new boards and and all that. I think it's gonna
• 28:21
Speaker 10: be real, real cool. But I think this looks great,
• 28:24
Speaker 10: looks professional like it's it's weird. You know, it gives
• 28:27
Speaker 10: you a professional error that you've never really had before.
• 28:30
Speaker 3: Probably should have a more professional host. I mean, they're
• 28:33
Speaker 3: gonna they're gonna get all this stuff done, and they're
• 28:35
Speaker 3: gonna look at the other one. What's this call it?
• 28:37
Speaker 3: What's this clown doing here? So well, well, we'll see
• 28:39
Speaker 3: what happens after the studios done, after the first of
• 28:41
Speaker 3: the year. They tell us, all right, Steven, where can
• 28:43

Speaker 3: You for being here. Tell us about Linda Body. Who
• 32:30
Speaker 3: are you? Tell us about you?
• 32:32
Speaker 15: All right, here we go. I am a mom to
• 32:36
  Speaker 15: a high school daughter. I'm a wife, I am a
• 32:41
Speaker 15: lifelong West Virginia born and raised here, and I'm a musician.
• 32:46
Speaker 15: I love playing steel drums.
• 32:48
Speaker 3: I was going to ask you, because soon as you
• 32:49
Speaker 3: said musician, I have to ask you. What do you
• 32:51
Speaker 3: play and how long you been playing it?
• 32:53
  Speaker 6: Yeah?
• 32:53
Speaker 15: Steel drums for almost twenty years. We have a band
• 32:57
Speaker 15: at our church. Been to museum musicians since like fourth grade.
• 33:02
Speaker 15: When you know the school brought in all the instruments.
• 33:04
Speaker 3: What do you want to play and you were in
• 33:06
Speaker 3: still drums. Okay, yeah, now I'm in still drums okay,
• 33:08
Speaker 3: all right, what else about you?
• 33:10
  Speaker 6: Yeah?
• 33:10
Speaker 15: So I'm an innovator creator, I like to I like
• 33:14
Speaker 15: to create things kind of out of nothing sometimes, but
• 33:16
Speaker 15: how can we make solutions? So that's a little bit
• 33:20
Speaker 15: about who I am. After I graduated high school, I
• 33:25
Speaker 15: received my accounting degree from Glenville State College, and then
• 33:30
Speaker 15: later on, when I decided I need to get my
• 33:32
Speaker 15: master's degree, I went to Marshall University Graduate College and
• 33:35
Speaker 15: received a technology management degree.
• 33:38
Speaker 6: So I've got a little bit of.
• 33:39
Speaker 15: A technology and accounting that was That was kind of
• 33:45
Speaker 15: my focus when I was in education, So then I was.
• 33:50
Speaker 15: I moved to Charleston after I graduated college. Better job
• 33:54
Speaker 15: opportunities here, and I ended up working in accounting in
• 33:58
Speaker 15: the construction and mining industry in the early nineties. Then
• 34:02
Speaker 15: later on I was introduced to a credit union in
• 34:06
Speaker 15: nineteen ninety eight. I still didn't really know what I
• 34:09
Speaker 15: wanted to do with life. Accounting was like, yeah, you know,
• 34:12
Speaker 15: it's all right, but it wasn't my life passion. So
• 34:16
Speaker 15: I started working for a credit union and I figured out,
• 34:18
Speaker 15: you know, the light bulb.
• 34:19
Speaker 3: Was I see what you did their credit union figured
• 34:21
  Speaker 3: out I did.
• 34:24
Speaker 15: So it took a little bit of time for me
• 34:25
Speaker 15: to figure out what my life mission, my life goals were.
• 34:29
Speaker 15: So when I figured out what a credit union did, exactly,
• 34:31
Speaker 15: it's banking services, but it's people helping people.
• 34:34
Speaker 6: It's helping those who.
• 34:36
Speaker 15: May not be able to get services at a traditional bank,
• 34:40
Speaker 15: or they're specifically affiliated for an employer group or a
• 34:43
Speaker 15: business whatever. So I found out that my personal mission
• 34:48
Speaker 15: align with the credit and mission people helping people. I mean,
• 34:50
  Speaker 15: that's a West Virginia thing.
• 34:52
Speaker 6: That's what we do.
• 34:52
Speaker 15: We love to help people, and we love people. And
• 34:56
Speaker 15: I never left because I fell in love with it.
• 35:00
Speaker 15: And so through the years, I want to talk about
• 35:03
Speaker 15: some of the things that, you know, being personally aligned
• 35:05
Speaker 15: with credit unions and in my job, the things we
• 35:09
Speaker 15: were able to accomplish. One of the major things that
• 35:13
Speaker 15: I'm very proud of is our little credit union in Charleston,
• 35:17
Speaker 15: West Virginia, was the first institution in the world to
• 35:20
Speaker 15: have an iPhone app where you could take.
• 35:22
Speaker 6: A picture of your check and deposit.
• 35:24
Speaker 3: Really okay, yeah, so we we made history and for
• 35:28
  Speaker 3: a good reason.
• 35:29
Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, we made good history.
• 35:32
Speaker 15: Yes, So we made banking more accessible by making this
• 35:38
Speaker 15: solution for people. And then fast forward to twenty seventeen.
• 35:42
Speaker 15: If you recall the medical cannabis legislation in the past,
• 35:46
Speaker 15: and that took a very long time for that program
• 35:48
Speaker 15: to launch, and one of the reasons was a banking
• 35:50
Speaker 15: issue with it. So using my creativity, innovation, talking with people,
• 35:55
Speaker 15: we were able to solve that problem with banking, and
• 36:00
Speaker 15: we put ourselves out there to bank an industry where
• 36:02
Speaker 15: it's so federally illegal. Yet we've managed to bank the
• 36:08
Speaker 15: state so that the medical cannabis program is active and
• 36:12
Speaker 15: operational and people can get the health care that they need.
• 36:15
Speaker 15: So those are two big things that I did in
• 36:18
Speaker 15: my job that aligned personally with me as well.
• 36:22
Speaker 3: So all that being said, why do you want to
• 36:24
Speaker 3: run for the house? What made you decide to go
• 36:26
Speaker 3: from that into the house.
• 36:28
Speaker 15: Yeah, So there's a lot more stuff that I've done
• 36:31
Speaker 15: working with small businesses, okay to improve our local economy.
• 36:35
Speaker 15: Very big on community, very big on volunteering locally and nationally.
• 36:39
Speaker 15: So I have a lot of community experience, a lot
• 36:41
Speaker 15: of support of local businesses, local economies, because that's what
• 36:46
Speaker 15: makes us great is having this great community, and Charleston
• 36:50
Speaker 15: is a great place in Charleston area. So I want
• 36:53
Speaker 15: to bring that passion to the state. I want to
• 36:58
Speaker 15: make a difference on a bigger level or for more
• 37:01
Speaker 15: people in a government. We need more balance. It's it's
• 37:04
Speaker 15: we're out of balance right now. We need more focused
• 37:08
Speaker 15: on solving problems, making solutions, and less distractions from issues
• 37:14
Speaker 15: that don't really help people.
• 37:16
Speaker 3: Okay. And so when you take a look at the
• 37:19
Speaker 3: legislature over the last you know, a few years, ten
• 37:22
Speaker 3: years or so, a little bit longer, it's been dominated,
• 37:25
Speaker 3: you know, by Republicans, super majority, super duper majority. I
• 37:28
Speaker 3: don't know what we're going to call it if it
• 37:29
Speaker 3: continues to grow. But that's got to be difficult for
• 37:33
Speaker 3: anybody to come in knowing that if you win this race, Linda,
• 37:36
Speaker 3: that that you're going to be in the super duper minority.
• 37:39
Speaker 3: I guess are you prepared for that?
• 37:41
Speaker 15: I am prepared. That's I've been in that situation almost
• 37:44
Speaker 15: my entire life. Being female and being in business, you're
• 37:48
Speaker 15: typically like you're one of the only females or very
• 37:51
Speaker 15: few females in positions of boards or executive positions. So
• 37:58
Speaker 15: it's it's nothing new for me. I would be prepared
• 38:01
Speaker 15: for that. And also, there's only twelve women right now
• 38:04
Speaker 15: in the House of Delegates, and after the election, what's
• 38:07
Speaker 15: that number going to be. Is going to be higher,
• 38:08
Speaker 15: is going to be lower. We are the lowest in
• 38:11
Speaker 15: the nation in female representation, and again that we're out
• 38:15
Speaker 15: of balance. We need more voices.
• 38:17
Speaker 3: I saw an interview with Delegate Kaylee Young that was
• 38:21
Speaker 3: on with the Mark Curtis and Inside Politics over the weekend,
• 38:24
Speaker 3: And if I get this wrong, somebody can correct me.
• 38:26
Speaker 3: I think she said she was currently the only delegate,
• 38:31
Speaker 3: the only legislator with kids in the school system currently
• 38:35
Speaker 3: in the school system. I may may have got that wrong,
• 38:37
Speaker 3: but if not, she's one of the only ones. So
• 38:39
Speaker 3: there's not a whole lot of moms of school age
• 38:43
Speaker 3: kids in the legislature from what she said.
• 38:46
Speaker 15: Right exactly. I'm another one of those. Yeah, not in
• 38:49
Speaker 15: the legislature yet, but I have a high school daughter.
• 38:52
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 38:53
Speaker 15: And I tell you, running a campaign where you have
• 38:56
Speaker 15: children and I don't know how men do it, but
• 38:59
Speaker 15: as as a mom, it's you know, I've given up
• 39:02
Speaker 15: time with my child to go out and knockdoors, to
• 39:05
Speaker 15: meet people, to do all these things I didn't know,
• 39:09
Speaker 15: you know, how do you run a political campaign? So
• 39:12
  Speaker 15: I spent a lot of time and I've not I've
• 39:14
Speaker 15: sacrificed time away from my family, my daughter.
• 39:17
Speaker 3: And if you win, there'll be more time, you know,
• 39:19
Speaker 3: away from that. You know there's people that are already there.
• 39:22
  Speaker 3: I know that we're talking to Lindbodi again, who's a
• 39:24
Speaker 3: candidate for House of Delegates. How's the campaign been for you.
• 39:28
  Speaker 15: It's actually been a lot of fun. I've learned a
• 39:31
Speaker 15: lot because I've never been in politics before, so I
• 39:35
Speaker 15: had to learn how campaign finance works, how do you
• 39:39
Speaker 15: run a campaign. I even went to school. I took
• 39:42
Speaker 15: a course of like three day course of here's how
• 39:44
Speaker 15: you run a campaign. We went through simulations and that
• 39:46
Speaker 15: was really fascinating. But you know, meeting all the people,
• 39:50
Speaker 15: that's been the best part for me. That everyone is
• 39:52
Speaker 15: so passionate and everyone's so supportive and friendly and helpful
• 39:57
Speaker 15: in you know, running, preparing to run and actually carrying
• 40:03
Speaker 15: out the knocking on doors, the asking for money. That's
• 40:07
Speaker 15: the worst part, by the way, is asking for money. Yeah,
• 40:10
Speaker 15: that's the most uncomfortable part for me and most candidates.
• 40:13
Speaker 15: But you know, having the support system that I have
• 40:17
Speaker 15: has been very helpful.
• 40:19
Speaker 3: I was doing a little looking around on your on
• 40:21
Speaker 3: your social media, and it looks like the deer in
• 40:23
Speaker 3: your campaign. You've encountered all kinds of animals too. You
• 40:26
Speaker 3: had like a ferret, something like that ferret.
• 40:29
Speaker 15: I never envisioned a ferret. I have not checked off
• 40:32
Speaker 15: a bear yet, and I hope not to check off bear,
• 40:36
Speaker 15: but I've seen pretty much every other animal.
• 40:38
Speaker 3: All right. So do you have a Facebook page? You
• 40:42
Speaker 3: got a website something that you want to plug where
• 40:44
Speaker 3: people can learn more aboute in the in the coming
• 40:46
Speaker 3: days as we head toward election day.
• 40:49
Speaker 6: Absolutely, I have a Facebook page, Linda Bode.
• 40:52
  Speaker 3: For House bod Bo d e o d I E
• 40:55
  Speaker 3: okay b d I e yeh. I need to correct
• 40:57
Speaker 3: my uh I left the eye off on your your
• 41:00
Speaker 3: description on the Facebook page. I'll correct that. E yes, yes, okay,
• 41:03
  Speaker 3: all right.
• 41:05
Speaker 15: And I also have a website Body Bodie for the
• 41:09
Speaker 15: number four WV dot com.
• 41:12
Speaker 3: All right. With my candidates, I always do something I call
• 41:14
Speaker 3: the final thirty and it's not timed or anything like that,
• 41:17
Speaker 3: but I just say, give me the final thirty. Why
• 41:20
Speaker 3: is it? People should vote for it? Linda Body with
• 41:22
Speaker 3: an eye for House of Delegates.
• 41:25
Speaker 15: Well, I am a strong believer that if you have
• 41:31
Speaker 15: faith and passion and desire, and you strongly believe in something,
• 41:34
Speaker 15: you can do it. That's what I've done my whole life.
• 41:37
Speaker 15: If I believe in something enough, I can achieve it.
• 41:39
Speaker 6: I can do it. I believe.
• 41:42
Speaker 15: I know, I actually believe I can go to the
• 41:44
Speaker 15: legislature and make a difference, a positive difference, because I
• 41:46
Speaker 15: know my voice will matter, even though it's just one voice,
• 41:49
Speaker 15: having one voice say something different, say something that can
• 41:53
Speaker 15: impact impact so many more people. That's important, and that's
• 41:57
Speaker 15: what I hope to achieve, is to bring that belief
• 42:00
  Speaker 15: into the legislature.
• 42:01
  Speaker 6: To help people.
• 42:03
Speaker 3: Well, well, wish you the Master of Luck. Thanks a
• 42:04

• 46:07
Speaker 3: yesterday's show, I listened to the interview you did yesterday
• 46:10
Speaker 3: with John Mitchell. Programming note, I'll jump in here. John
• 46:13
Speaker 3: Mitchell is running for county prosecutor here in Kanawha County
• 46:16
Speaker 3: against the sitting prosecutor, Debora Rusnick. Continuing on with the text.
• 46:20
Speaker 3: Continuing with the text here. On yesterday's show, he actually
• 46:23
Speaker 3: complained that deb Rusnick was too tough on crime. That's
• 46:26
Speaker 3: the job, John, and that's why a Democrat hasn't held
• 46:29
Speaker 3: that office for twenty years. Okay, let me see. Tex
• 46:35
Speaker 3: says almost all of Linda Bodie's money came from liberal
• 46:39
Speaker 3: out of state interest. Says a Texter came not reading that.
• 46:47
Speaker 3: Definitely not reading that. Tex says was she proud of
• 46:53
Speaker 3: the false attacks on her opponent. I talked to Linda
• 46:57
Speaker 3: before the show, and she opted, She said she did
• 46:59
Speaker 3: not want to address her opponent at all. And one
• 47:02
Speaker 3: of the things that I do as host of the
• 47:04
Speaker 3: show is I tried to be accompinating of my guest.
• 47:07
Speaker 3: And I asked Linda, I said, you know, I had
• 47:10
Speaker 3: jb Acres, your opponent on the show on Tuesday, and
• 47:15
Speaker 3: she said I wanted to just focus on me, and
• 47:17
  Speaker 3: I said, okay, that's fine with me. So that's that's
• 47:20
Speaker 3: what we did. Text says rob Rio had to walk
• 47:24
Speaker 3: all the back roads all the way to Morgantown. According
• 47:26
Speaker 3: to Google Maps, that's a sixty four hour walk. God
• 47:29
Speaker 3: bless you Rob Well he did it for a good cause.
• 47:32
Speaker 3: Text says this one was running her entire campaign on
• 47:39
Speaker 3: abortion and homosexuality. Why did you not mention that on
• 47:42
Speaker 3: the radio and own it? Because she knows it's a
• 47:43
Speaker 3: losing strategy, said, well, it's her time, she can talk,
• 47:47
Speaker 3: she can do what she wants. Texas Linda bodies too
• 47:51
Speaker 3: extreme for West Virginia. She wants boys and women's sports.
• 47:56
Speaker 3: Texas says, West Virginia is gonna have a senator who's
• 47:58
Speaker 3: in the pocket of a foreign country and a governor
• 48:01
Speaker 3: who tried to overthrow the votes of citizens of neighboring states.
• 48:04
Speaker 3: Great choices, West Virginia enjoy being perpetually the worst of everything,

Speaker 3: says a texture Texature. Let me see Texas, Dave, remember

Speaker 3: Monday's show. Texas, we don't need other Republicans to close

Speaker 3: our schools and divide our communities to put more social
• 49:06
Speaker 3: issues on the people. The Upper of Kanal Valley have
• 49:09
Speaker 3: had a enough Texas. I live in the fifty fifth
• 49:13
Speaker 3: district and from what I've seen this is for Linda.
• 49:17
Speaker 3: You have run a very negative campaign. Do you think
• 49:19
Speaker 3: the positive campaign wouldn't have worked out for you? Texas's
• 49:25
Speaker 3: body is a hypocrite for railing against school choice but
• 49:28
Speaker 3: sending her child to private school. Typical Democrat rules for
• 49:31
Speaker 3: thee but not for me. Another one along those lines, Okay,
• 49:43
Speaker 3: it's been a very negative campaign. Frankly hateful in this
• 49:46
Speaker 3: race between Abodee and Acres. I'm sick of it. We
• 49:49
Speaker 3: need real solutions for jobs, a kind ofy and other
• 49:51
Speaker 3: real problems. All she is as negative. Count me out,
• 49:55
Speaker 3: says a TEXTA. I want to take a quick break
• 49:57
Speaker 3: from politics just for a moment to congratulate one of
• 50:02
Speaker 3: our very own, and that is our own Bobby Spry,
• 50:05
Speaker 3: my officemate upstairs. After a few years away from the
• 50:10
Speaker 3: company here, Bobby's now rejoined the team here at eleven eleven,
• 50:13
Speaker 3: and yesterday she was inducted into the twenty twenty four
• 50:16
Speaker 3: class of West Virginia Living's Wonder Woman. So they had
• 50:21
Speaker 3: a big luncheon and several others went in there too.
• 50:24
Speaker 3: So I just wanted to say, proud of our girl.
• 50:25
Speaker 3: Way to go, Roberta. We are very proud of you.
• 50:28
  Speaker 7: Here.
• 50:29
Speaker 3: Tex says people around here care about jobs and inflation.
• 50:34
Speaker 3: That candidate Linda only talks about social issues. She doesn't
• 50:38
Speaker 3: get it. Tex said, going back to rob Real, he
• 50:44
Speaker 3: couldn't walk the interstate not only because of safety, but
• 50:47
Speaker 3: it's also against the federal law. Yeah, we trust me.
• 50:50
Speaker 3: Before he set off on this journey, we made sure
• 50:53
Speaker 3: that all of the laws were being followed, because the
• 50:56
Speaker 3: last thing we want to do is when you are
• 50:58
Speaker 3: trying to do something, you know, for WU children's hospitals,
• 51:02
Speaker 3: to get thrown in jail. That was the last thing
• 51:04
Speaker 3: that we would want to do. The Dave Allen Showing

• 51:30
Speaker 3: Putnam County, Brian Wood and County Clerk over there are
• 51:33
Speaker 3: saying that the early voting numbers are simply off the
• 51:36
Speaker 3: charts and they are expected to rise a whole lot
• 51:39
Speaker 3: over the next couple of days. Of course, you've got
• 51:41
Speaker 3: today and you got tomorrow to early vote, and early
• 51:45
Speaker 3: voting generally speaking, follows the hours of the courthouse, and
• 51:48
Speaker 3: in Putnam County, the courthouse is open later on Thursday evening.
• 51:52
Speaker 3: So if I am correct, and I should have followed
• 51:54
  Speaker 3: up on that and I didn't, I think they're going
• 51:56
Speaker 3: to allow early voting until seven o'clock tonight at Putnham County.
• 51:58
Speaker 3: And there's two locations to early vote in Putnam County.
• 52:02
Speaker 3: You got Valley Park and you've also got the courthouse
• 52:04
Speaker 3: in Winfield. And of course early voting will wrap up
• 52:08
Speaker 3: on Saturday, and then we'll take a couple days of rest.
• 52:12
Speaker 3: I guess not if you're a candidate. But then on
• 52:15
Speaker 3: Tuesday is election Day. Polls open in West Virginia six
• 52:17
