- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Well all right, well here on the one like up network.
- 0:11Speaker 3: Kind of proving my point today with the passing of
- 0:13Speaker 3: Catherine O'Hara, America's mom.
- 0:15Speaker 2: We'll get to that in a second. But I realized
- 0:18Speaker 2: something today.
- 0:19Speaker 3: And I don't talk about my internal thoughts because I
- 0:22Speaker 3: always believe and talk about the news of the day,
- 0:25Speaker 3: sports the day, adaptability stories. But in the midst of all.
- 0:29Speaker 2: That, right now is the three years since going through
- 0:33Speaker 2: the loss of.
- 0:34Speaker 3: My dad, and it hit me today once again why
- 0:38Speaker 3: I'm afraid to move forward so since my dad's passing,
- 0:44Speaker 3: whether it was opening up the new medical supplies or
- 0:47Speaker 3: literally having them sit up there for the last couple
- 0:50Speaker 3: of months since Christmas, it just hit me that I
- 0:55Speaker 3: not only procrastinate, but I try and stop time so
- 0:59Speaker 3: that the natural cycle life does not take anyone.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Else I love.
- 1:02Speaker 3: I guess there has this trauma now that I feel
- 1:05Speaker 3: like if I keep moving life forward, everything else will
- 1:09Speaker 3: naturally progress and more loss will happen, and maybe some
- 1:12Speaker 3: great things will happen too. But it's funny because on
- 1:16Speaker 3: the day that I opened my medical supplies, Joni Pelzer
- 1:19Speaker 3: and Ryan Pagano in the room of the year, I
- 1:21Speaker 3: say hello.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Hi, like a blex in.
- 1:28Speaker 3: My room since Christmas. I was like, man, I haven't
- 1:31Speaker 3: opened these up for a reason. It's because every time
- 1:35Speaker 3: you open something new up, it means life moves forward,
- 1:39Speaker 3: and I just want to stop time for a minute.
- 1:41Speaker 3: And I think today everybody is feeling that because we
- 1:44Speaker 3: did lose America's Mom Katherine O'Hara. I loved her in
- 1:49Speaker 3: Home Alone, but I also loved her in Shit's Creek.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I'm sure you guys, I loved her.
- 1:52Speaker 4: Invest in Show, I loved her in Waiting for Guffman.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I just love her. And Shit's Creak she just blew
- 1:59Speaker 1: me away.
- 2:00Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I.
- 2:00Speaker 5: Mean her role in Home and all those Home Alone films.
- 2:03Speaker 5: I mean that's not something that could be duplicated.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Then there it is.
- 2:08Speaker 5: And then my family also really loved Shit s Freaked. Now, personally,
- 2:13Speaker 5: I never got the chance to really watch that series.
- 2:15Speaker 5: I've heard a lot of great things about it. My
- 2:17Speaker 5: family has watched it, and the one takeaway of many
- 2:22Speaker 5: that they've had is Catherine O.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Harris's role.
- 2:24Speaker 5: I mean, she made an iconic.
- 2:26Speaker 3: For what it is, and so it's just unbelievable because
- 2:31Speaker 3: my thought processing was, shoot, I'm I'm opening up these
- 2:36Speaker 3: medical supplies had open and then all of a sudden
- 2:38Speaker 3: this happens, proving the point that life is going to
- 2:42Speaker 3: move forward one way or the other, and I have
- 2:45Speaker 3: to now have one leg up over the pensive nature
- 2:48Speaker 3: of this.
- 2:49Speaker 4: You can't stop it from moving right and if you try.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Then it's worse.
- 2:55Speaker 3: And so yeah, I left my medical supplies unopened for
- 2:59Speaker 3: a couple of months after Christmas, partly because I had enough,
- 3:03Speaker 3: but also I think there is that like, oh my god,
- 3:06Speaker 3: if I open this box now and means we're moving forward.
- 3:10Speaker 4: You know what, Alex to add to that, I think
- 3:13Speaker 4: this is why so many of us have trouble cleaning
- 3:17Speaker 4: up and clearing out.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Our procrastinating exactly.
- 3:21Speaker 4: I have piles of old business cards and folders from
- 3:27Speaker 4: past clients to go through, and it's like, you.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Don't want to lose that past.
- 3:34Speaker 4: But yet if you don't get rid of that and
- 3:38Speaker 4: come to terms with that, if it's throwing it away
- 3:42Speaker 4: or giving it away or clothes, you don't do that,
- 3:48Speaker 4: then how do you move forward?
- 3:50Speaker 1: How do you make room for what's to come?
- 3:52Speaker 2: You saw those three months up close because I was
- 3:54Speaker 2: dealing with my dad. I was dealing with radio, and I.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Came to your dad's funeral in New Jersey and it.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Was a lot and used to become the more now
- 4:00Speaker 3: like ever since then, I'm kind of nervous to move
- 4:03Speaker 3: life forward because.
- 4:05Speaker 2: My parents are older and you don't want to lose them, right,
- 4:07Speaker 2: And then you just start thinking deeper.
- 4:09Speaker 4: Absolutely, but you know what you have to open up
- 4:12Speaker 4: to what's to come, because we don't have a choice.
- 4:16Speaker 3: And I always think if you move life forward, then
- 4:19Speaker 3: God's blessings are really right around the corner. It helps
- 4:22Speaker 3: me wake up every day is like, you.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Know, God's got something around the corner for you.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Getting very deep lately every.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Day it feels like, well, because there's a lot of
- 4:31Speaker 3: changes in my own life which I might dispose at
- 4:33Speaker 3: some point.
- 4:34Speaker 1: But you're how old now?
- 4:36Speaker 2: Thirty through almost thirty five?
- 4:38Speaker 1: Almost thirty five? Wow? I gave you an extra year? Wow? Yeah?
- 4:43Speaker 1: Where was I at thirty five? Wow?
- 4:45Speaker 3: So like I could talk about the politics of Minnesota
- 4:48Speaker 3: or politics in New York, but sometimes I like to
- 4:51Speaker 3: go into respective and you know, it's funny.
- 4:54Speaker 2: We're now into year thirteen of.
- 4:55Speaker 3: This podcast, starting February and as I'm trying to move
- 5:00Speaker 3: it forward, part of my brain is like stuck in
- 5:03Speaker 3: keeping time as is and maybe talking it out times.
- 5:07Speaker 1: With your podcast?
- 5:08Speaker 4: Is your podcast moving forward and accomplishing way? Oh?
- 5:11Speaker 2: Keeping time as is? In my own life? Is it
- 5:13Speaker 2: moving me forward? That's the question I'm evaluating.
- 5:16Speaker 1: There's the overall question.
- 5:18Speaker 2: So like as I open these medical supplies, haven't opened
- 5:20Speaker 2: or be.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Or not to be?
- 5:22Speaker 2: I love that Shakespeare.
- 5:24Speaker 1: I just saw Hamnet, by the way, see that movie.
- 5:26Speaker 2: I have to see it talks.
- 5:27Speaker 1: About that in a way.
- 5:29Speaker 2: You have to see that, and so we can stop.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Father time is the point. So why not make the
- 5:36Speaker 2: best of it? Why not have one like a not
- 5:38Speaker 2: over father time, but.
- 5:40Speaker 3: With it, and also one like a over procrastination, over pensiveness,
- 5:45Speaker 3: over fear of moving forward because life is going to
- 5:49Speaker 3: naturally move forward, and I have deduced that for the better.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Of my health. Yeah, opening that medical supply is going
- 5:55Speaker 2: to keep me going like there is no doubt about that.
- 5:59Speaker 2: And it's gonna be a long term Well what if?
- 6:01Speaker 1: What if?
- 6:02Speaker 4: What if you think of it as not an end
- 6:08Speaker 4: but a beginning, and I need to get more circle
- 6:12Speaker 4: that's kind of completing in a new circle.
- 6:15Speaker 1: This comes right hooked to it.
- 6:17Speaker 3: From January eight, twenty twenty three, till April fifteenth, actually
- 6:23Speaker 3: till May when my dad's memorial is that to me
- 6:25Speaker 3: is always a completed cycle because I live it over
- 6:30Speaker 3: and over again. And I think that's why I'm afraid
- 6:34Speaker 3: to like do little things to like move everything else forward, because.
- 6:38Speaker 4: It's shay though, isn't it Like when it's when we
- 6:41Speaker 4: talk about things.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Like this, it is actually so cliche. But when you really.
- 6:46Speaker 4: Start to really think about it for yourself, not like
- 6:52Speaker 4: what someone's reading or writing or telling you, but when
- 6:57Speaker 4: you start to really feel it and think it wow.
- 7:00Speaker 4: And I feel like everyone I've seen, even on social media,
- 7:04Speaker 4: is talking about what you just said right now in
- 7:08Speaker 4: their own ways.
- 7:09Speaker 3: And because the world's crazy, we don't know how the
- 7:10Speaker 3: world's going to move forward either. Why, so it's like
- 7:14Speaker 3: do we how do we move forward in our own lives?
- 7:17Speaker 2: And also how is the world going to move forward?
- 7:20Speaker 3: There's so many For the first time, I think we're
- 7:22Speaker 3: all on the same level of there's so many unknowns
- 7:26Speaker 3: that yeah, it's frickin daunting to deal with those unknowns.
- 7:29Speaker 2: There's no doubt about it.
- 7:30Speaker 4: It is all right, but we're all going to agree
- 7:34Speaker 4: to move forward.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Yes, And I think I had to talk about this study.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Your listeners on your next podcast. What action did you take?
- 7:43Speaker 1: One action? Just one.
- 7:45Speaker 4: It could have been throwing something out, It could have
- 7:48Speaker 4: been making a complete phone call to someone to like
- 7:52Speaker 4: complete something with them.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I like that one just do one small thing.
- 7:58Speaker 3: And we can't be afraid of the natural cycle. That's
- 8:00Speaker 3: what it is, and so we have to just flow
- 8:03Speaker 3: with it. And also one other thing I will say
- 8:07Speaker 3: is and I think part of that moving forward is
- 8:13Speaker 3: actually just getting closer back to home and then branching
- 8:17Speaker 3: out back on my own.
- 8:19Speaker 2: I think that's where it has to be. But as
- 8:21Speaker 2: we hit years, if you're one.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Leg not maybe up, but maybe down.
- 8:26Speaker 4: And grounded and grounded, Yes, so maybe talking about one
- 8:31Speaker 4: leg up, maybe it's one leg down for right now.
- 8:34Speaker 3: For right now, it's planted and just re establishing myself.
- 8:38Speaker 3: That's for suunding, and then you know, at the same
- 8:43Speaker 3: time up the numbers. I now have fifty four thousand
- 8:46Speaker 3: downloads over twelve years, which is pretty damn cool. Heading
- 8:51Speaker 3: into year at thirteen, maybe lucky thirteen. That's that's what
- 8:54Speaker 3: I'm going for a year, but bigger and better, Alex.
- 8:58Speaker 3: If I can get over the pensiveness in my own
- 9:02Speaker 3: personal feelings, life will flow much better. And so in
- 9:06Speaker 3: that sense, I do want to have one leg up
- 9:08Speaker 3: over the pensive.
- 9:08Speaker 2: I think we all should.
- 9:09Speaker 3: I think we all should just stop being so afraid
- 9:13Speaker 3: of what we don't know and just embrace what we know. Now,
- 9:16Speaker 3: that's what it is, and that's all I gotta say.
- 9:18Speaker 3: On the One Leg Up Network, I'm Alex Garrett, Joni Pealser,
- 9:21Speaker 3: Ryan Piggano.
- 9:22Speaker 2: A little earlier, we are mourning the.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Loss of Catherine O'Hara, a legend, and just embracing that's
- 9:28Speaker 3: part of the natural cycle, one day at a time.
- 9:31Speaker 3: As Stephen Schwartz wrote, day by Day, I love that song. Anyway,
- 9:35Speaker 3: We'll talk to you seon on the One Leg Up
- 9:36Speaker 3: Network
