- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Hello, everyone.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to another great episode of Truth Be Told.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Mickey, and joining me today is my co-host Bethany.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: And today we are here to share the truth.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: And where does the truth come from?
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: It comes from the Word of God.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: We love to open up the Bible and dive in and share scripture with you and just have heart-to-heart conversations about the Word and the guidance that God has provided for us to live by.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: And today we are going to be jumping back in where we left off the last couple of weeks and continuing up with the fruits of the spirit.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: And Bethany has been bringing some great information, lots of wonderful scripture to the table so we can discuss it.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: And today we will be finishing up with the last two fruits of the spirit.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: But before we do that, I'm going to have Bethany come on and say hello and give us a recap of the last couple of weeks.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: So, Bethany, welcome in.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: Great to be here.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: We've been talking about the fruits of the spirit, and we have covered seven of them.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: We've covered love, joy, peace, non-suffering, gentleness, and goodness.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: And so today we are going to cover meekness and temperance.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: And so it's interesting to me, Mickey, how that the Lord has just given us so much information about each of these fruits and how that we can not only live, but live abundantly and show these, show off these fruits to others so that they can see what it's really like to have these different um fruits and display them and like I say, live abundantly, not just live from day to day, but really truly live abundantly as I believe God wants us to live.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: And so we've been um looking at those seven fruits, and there's like Mickey mentioned, there's so much scripture with each of us that you will want to go back through those episodes and watch them and listen to them and discover for yourself what those fruits of the spirit truly are, and don't just take our word for it, but truly dive in and like I say, discover for yourself what those fruits are and how you too can live them out if you are a Christian.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: And so um I will pass it back to Mickey and we will get started.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's great.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: I think also um I wanted to say this real quick as we start so people can have it in their mind ahead of time.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: Um we don't want to just share the truth with you.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: We also kind of want to challenge you.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: We want to challenge you to if you if you haven't seen the previous um episodes on the fruits of the spirit, um I encourage you to go back and listen to them or watch them, depending on if you're audio or video.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: Um they are out on both.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: But um go back, check them out, and follow along because I'm gonna tell you right now, in the last episodes that we did on the fruits of the spirit, Holy Spirit has definitely showed up for every episode.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Um and I do believe that you know God has definitely divined our appointment time when it comes to doing these episodes, especially with the fruits of the spirit.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: This go-around has been just amazing.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: And so if you've missed any of them, I encourage you to go back.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: But I want to challenge you also going forward that with each one of the fruits of the spirit, we've already talked about this in the previous episode that there's no order of operation to the fruits of the spirit.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Um, we know we talked about love in the very beginning.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, we we read them in order and we're giving them, giving you the information kind of based on how they're laid out in the Bible, but there is no order of operation.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: The fruits of the spirit can be operated at different levels during different circumstances of your life.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: You'll you'll encounter opportunities where you can operate in the fruits of the spirit.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: Now, can you operate all of them at one time?
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: Um, I mean, I'm sure people can.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: Um if you really are intuitive to what the fruits of the spirit are, I believe that you really can.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Um, but I do think that on a uh a lesser level, I think that it's easy to at least always operate in at least one of the fruits of the spirit, always.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: And if you do that, start doing that each day as you go through.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: Pick, you know, work on work on the fruits of the spirit.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: Pick one and be like, you know what, today I'm gonna I'm gonna show more love today.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: Or today I'm just gonna have more joy.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: Or today I'm just gonna um I'm gonna work on my faith.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: I'm really gonna work on letting God build up my faith or or or the goodness of God.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: I'm really gonna focus on what God um has done good in my life.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: There's so many things that you can do to help you to grow spiritually with the fruits of the spirit.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: And I'm gonna tell you right now what's gonna happen.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: And I know Beth and Nick will agree with this.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: As you start operating in the fruits of the spirit, you're gonna start showing fruits of your of your own spirit.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: They're gonna start coming and they're and your fruit is gonna start blooming and blossoming.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: And that's what the fruits of the spirit are for us to be doing.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: We are supposed to be growing in the fruits of the spirit.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: We're not supposed to have dead fruit.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: Remember what Jesus did with the fig, the fig tree that wouldn't produce fruit?
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: We don't want to be that.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: We want to be the ones that are producing the good fruit.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: So today I want you to keep that in mind, and I just want to challenge you to go back, follow through every episode, um, and start working your own fruits of the spirit out within your life, and just ask God to help you and guide you through each one of these spirits so that way you can get spiritually more sound in the doctrine as well as spiritually more intimately connected with Jesus Christ.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: And I'm telling you, it it's gonna help you tremendously.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: And that abundance is gonna be more than anything that you could even ask for.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: So as we dive into that, um, Bethany, would you like to start us in prayer and then I'll just let you jump right in.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: Let's go on and pray.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: Lord, I thank you for this opportunity we have now to do this episode.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: And I pray, Lord, that you would be honored and glorified in it.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: And we invite you, Lord, to speak through Mickey and I and to speak to those who listen, those who watch, Lord, that they too would be able to start living in the fruits of the spirit, either initially or you know, even more abundantly, Lord.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: And so we thank you for this time and we thank you for what you will do through this episode.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: In Jesus' name, amen.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: Yes, so um we are talking about meekness and temperance today.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: So we covered the others fruits in other episodes.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: So we are on meekness and temperance.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: Now, I don't know if any of our listeners have heard the phrase, whether someone has said it or if you have heard it um anywhere, that meekness is weakness.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: And let me tell you right now, and I'm sure Mickey would agree with this, that that phrase is not true.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: Meekness is not weakness.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: Um I don't know personally where that phrase came from.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: That meekness is weakness.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: But let me say again, it's not true.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: Um because what is meekness?
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: Meekness is humility, and being humble is not weak.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: Being humble is actually what God desires.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: I truly believe.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: Because even going back to Hebrews 11 6, where that's about faith, that without faith it's impossible to please God.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: And I truly believe that you can say that about humility as well, that without humility we're not pleasing God, and so in James chapter four and verse 10, and James chapter four is another chapter to really study to just see for yourself what you can gain from a chapter.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: But verse number ten says humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: That is such a powerful verse.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: The Bible is full of powerful verses, the Bible is full of abundance.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: But when we talk about humility, when we talk about meekness, we're to humble ourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift us up.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: Not ourselves.
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: We're not supposed to be lifting ourselves up.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: Lifting ourselves up is pride, and there's many verses in the Bible that talk about pride not being wise, that pride goeth before destruction.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: And so James 4.10, humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: Such a powerful verse, such a great verse to anchor ourselves to, I believe.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: And Mickey, do you have thoughts on this verse?
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: When I think of meekness and in this verse, humbling yourself, when I think of meekness, meekness is defined uh not just as humility, but as gentleness and a mild disposition.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: So think about it.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: It's a person that um is submissive, has a submissive spirit to a higher power or willingness to yield rather than just constant fight back mode.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: The nuance to that is think about think about this imagery real quick.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: Think about um a massive, powerful animal that has been trained to be gentle.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: It has the strength and the ability to harm, but it chooses to be calm, it chooses to forgive, and it and it's slow to anger.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: There is scripture actually on that too, that we need to be slow to anger.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: That's also part of being meek, having meekness.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: Um, a meek person, they are secure with themselves.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: People that are really uptight all the time and that always have that fighting mechanism.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: Those are people that are not, they're very insecure with themselves.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: They always feel like they have to validate, they feel like they have to stand up and they they have to fight for whatever it is that they're fighting for.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: Um, a meekness, a meek spirit is someone that's unbothered by insults or um um you know insecurities and is also highly teachable.
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: That's what a meek person is.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: So when we think about this as we're going through the scripture, I want to just to point this out.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: When it says humble yourself in the sight of the Lord, he will lift you up.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: When you do this, that strength that we may feel like we're just giving it away to God, he's gonna be the one that gives us the strength to be lifted up.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: When we think we're gonna do it on our own, we're we're we're operating in a selfish mode.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: We need to not be doing that.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: We need to be secure in who we are, and we need to be secure in who God is in us.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: And doing that will help us to learn and understand what meekness really means and how to walk through that.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: So if that makes sense.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: So that's kind of what I wanted to share with with this specific um fruit of the spirit, because I feel like you said what you said in the beginning, people get it kind of confused.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: They look at it as like a weakness.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: It's not a weakness at all.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: It's it's actually very powerful and it's very humbling.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: And those that actually operate in this um are highly favored by God, believe it or not.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: He he has a he has a um not that he's a respecter of persons, but he does have a level of um maybe you could call it um appreciation or whatever.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: Um, like like you said when we were talking about faith, that um without it, we're not, we have nothing to God.
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: And this is you know one of those spirits that we need to walk and operate in meekness, because a lot of times we want to um lash out.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: And when someone's trying to teach us, they don't want to learn, and we want to just stick to the fight or flight method.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: And that's because we we're not secure in ourselves.
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: If we are secure in who God is and ourselves, being meek is not even going to be a problem.
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: It'll be it'll be easy for you.
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: It's just like the animal that's trained.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: When the animal's trained, they know they know not to to bite every person that walks by them.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: You know, they know better.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: So that's what that's I kind of just wanted to put that little thought in your mind in that scenario to just give it an idea, if that makes sense.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: So yeah, that's wonderful.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: Great.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: Um to help help us understand what it truly is.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: To even when we hear about meekness now and different things, we can um even filter that through what the Bible is saying, and um it's very important to do.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: So now let's go to another verse in Proverbs thirty three says the fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom, and before honor is humility.
- 17:46SPEAKER_01: Before honor is humility.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: How many good times do we see others or even ourselves be recognized or honored for something?
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: Do we really understand that even before that there should be a humbleness.
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: There should be a humbleness, a desire to not be selfish, not be proud, not be um like look at me, see what I do, type of attitude, but really understanding that how important humility is.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: You know, keep Jesus in his earthly ministry here.
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: And it was it was not because he was sinless.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: It was because or maybe I should say it was not totally because he was sinless.
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: I do believe he had the desire to show what genuine humility should be.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: And so, you know, even taking time to read through the gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, and reading the different experiences, you know, even reading the book of Acts, reading those experiences as well, and just seeing, you know, how did Jesus act in these situations, especially in situations where others will confront him?
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: And so I just wanted to share that verse, Proverbs 15, 33, before honor is humility.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: And so, Mickey, do you have thoughts on that?
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: Um, no, I think I mean it's it's kind of it's kind of not really a great area.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: It's black or black and white, I I think personally.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: Um, but I do agree that I think Jesus was probably one of the most humble people that have ever walked the ever walked the earth.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: Um, and I do feel like he came with that mindset to be an example because he was an example for everything that we needed um to be able to um come to our salvation, I believe.
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: And I do like that you brought uh brought Proverbs up because Proverbs is um such a powerful book, and like we could dive into that all day long.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: But you know, the book um it was written mostly by King Solomon, and we know what strength he had.
- 21:38SPEAKER_00: I mean, he was very, very powerful.
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: And yet he talks even in the book about how important it is to have that instruction and the wisdom that we need.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: So he was even able to humble himself, even though he had his own issues, he still humbled himself in knowing the importance of needing the instruction and.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: wisdom that um um was necessary for him to be who he was if that makes sense wonderful comparison there wonderful um point to bring out and another verse in proverbs proverbs 22 and verse 4 and before i read that verse you know there are some people who i've heard say this or you know in some circumstance whatever um how that you know the bible is just you know a bunch of rules and it's hard to understand and you know you can't really get anything from it well um i would kindly disagree with that um and i know mickey would as well um because even even this verse i'm about to read proverbs 22 verse 4 is like one of the main instructions for life for how we can live abundantly here on earth despite everything that's going on around us no we can still live abundantly and i strongly very strongly believe that god wants christians to live abundantly here on earth right now not just waiting for eternity not just saying when when are you coming back and that it's that's not wrong to say it's i'm not downplaying that i'm not meaning to downplay that but i strongly believe that god wants us to live abundantly right now if you are a christian that's what god wants you to do so that's just my personal opinion yeah and now reading verse four proverbs twenty two verse four by humility and the fear of the Lord by riches and honor and life wow um good that yeah says it right there um and remember that the fear of the Lord is not a afraid type you know being scared of the Lord no it's having a proper respect and awe and reverence toward the Lord so see in this verse by humility and the fear of the Lord what what is gained says riches and honor and life yeah so maybe we need to ask ourselves how are we doing at those things are we living things out like God would want us to so that he can bless us or are we still striving in our own strength and honestly making Satan happy by choosing to do things that Satan would want us to do rather than what God tells us to do.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: I mean that's that's black and white huh um yeah make so Mickey do you have any thoughts on that?
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: Well I I feel like it's just point blank like it's it's literally like um you know people talk so much about money and we know money is the root of evil you know we know it can be okay um are we allowed to have it absolutely we can have as much money as we want um are we allowed to be rich why would why would the Lord put this scripture in there if he did not care if we were rich or not and it's not just financially rich it could be spiritually rich um you know blessed with just lavishing of gifts or or people or just things it's that doesn't have to be necessarily a dollar figure.
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: So we need to keep that in mind as well when it talks about being rich.
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: To be saved is to be rich.
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: Having Jesus as your salvation is is the best money you'll ever as the best um thing that you could ever have.
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: But so I just wanted to throw that out there as a comparison.
- 28:52SPEAKER_00: But a lot of people think when they see this they think of money money money like big old bling bling dollar signs, you know I mean I do.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: I I mean I I think that sometimes but that's okay too as long as we know that we're showing humility.
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: Now if I'm going around flashing my money and you know blinging it out and and be like hey look at me I got all this money and I'm rich and blah blah blah blah blah blah blah um that's not any type of humility humility at all.
- 29:19SPEAKER_00: That's actually idolism over money.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: We don't want to idle being rich.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: We want to be humble so that God can make us rich or God can give us the blessing of being rich.
- 29:31SPEAKER_00: And that doesn't mean that the the first time that you you humble yourself God's going to throw you a million dollars so don't take my words out of content here.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: I don't want you to think it's like oh the door is going to open and here comes the Lamborghini or whatever it is that you're wanting.
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: That's not what we're talking about.
- 29:48SPEAKER_00: Yes money can be a factor in that yes God can open doors and yes God can provide financially um however he wants to provide he doesn't have to provide anything.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: Now does he want us to have it he wants us to have everything that our hearts actually desire everything at all.
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: And I'm gonna tell you a real quick illustration I'll be really quick um that my pastor said a couple weeks ago and I thought was really interesting was um a little boy was asking his father if it was okay if he prayed to have some Legos.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: And I thought well how cute you know my my son really liked Legos.
- 30:24SPEAKER_00: That's so cute.
- 30:25SPEAKER_00: And the father said why would God care whether or not you have Legos you know asked him the question.
- 30:33SPEAKER_00: And he said well I want to make sure it's okay with God if I have Legos and he said God wants you to have whatever the desires of your heart are and if Legos is it then pray for Legos.
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: Pray for some Legos it's okay.
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: And it really just the little boy was just tickled pink.
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: He's like I'm gonna go pray for some Legos you know because he wanted more Legos you know and that's exactly how God is we can pray for the desires of our heart.
- 30:58SPEAKER_00: Now if we're praying for stuff that can harm us or harm someone else or do something that's ridiculous or isn't done as an actual desire of something that you know we we should have God also knows when we're being selfish and we're not showing humility when it comes to asking for stuff.
- 31:19SPEAKER_00: So I think that's where this gets twisted with people is like well I'm trying to be humble why isn't God blessing me with riches well are you being humble honestly to the point where you are not um idolizing the desires of your heart because if those desires are above God, he's not going to honor them just like he won't honor us.
- 31:39SPEAKER_00: But he will honor us if we have humility and we show that and we demonstrate it by acknowledging where those riches and that honor comes from when when I when I um talk about God or I talk about most things I give most I try to give all the glory to God but sometimes you know we fall short but so I will say most like 99.9% most of the time I give all credit to God for everything that I go through.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: And the other one percent is just because I fell short you know but um I do try to give God all the glory for everything he does you know in my life and um yes I think I can attribute for some of the things I do because God the only because God gave me the ability to do it, not because of my own not on my own accord.
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: So we need to as simple as this verse is it gets really twisted.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: And that's what's sad about scripture is people will take a simple verse like this and flip it around and twist it and it doesn't it's not necessary.
- 32:39SPEAKER_00: It is very point blank.
- 32:41SPEAKER_00: What it what it reads is exactly what it means.
- 32:44SPEAKER_00: If you are if you are um if you show humility and you show if you have fear of the Lord and like you said not the afraid kind of fear but it's a respect it's a respect type of fear.
- 32:55SPEAKER_00: And like when your parents say knock it off or you're gonna get a whooping you knock it off because you respect them and you love them and you fear them at the same time.
- 33:03SPEAKER_00: That's the kind of love God's going to discipline us if we're not if we're you know we're out of as a Christian he's gonna discipline us if we're not behaving.
- 33:10SPEAKER_00: You know that's how he chastises us.
- 33:12SPEAKER_00: You know that's why that's why there's this word called conviction so but this verse is so simple when it says you know um and fear the Lord fear of the Lord are riches in honor and life that means he's gonna extend your life he's gonna allow you to live a long prosperous life too.
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: That's what it means.
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: That's why it's Satan and life.
- 33:33SPEAKER_00: It doesn't say life after death mind you remember that.
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: So I just wanted to point that out because I I I I love it that he puts the riches in honor and life that means he wants you to have an abundant life that means living a long time okay not just okay you're gonna live and then you're gonna die tomorrow in a car accident or whatever.
- 33:53SPEAKER_00: No he's got he's got um he has a plan like Jeremiah 2911 says for your for a hope and a future for you if you're walking in the fruits of the spirit I believe that we need to be doing that.
- 34:08SPEAKER_00: And and if we want longevity start operating in the fruits of the spirit see that let's see what happens I guarantee you I'm sticking to that challenge.
- 34:17SPEAKER_00: Let's see what happens.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: So go ahead Bethany I don't want to take up too much more time yes that's wonderful um yes and so now as we look at temperance and temperance can be defined as self-control um so I want us to look at at chapter twenty-four and I won't read the whole experience here um take time to read that on your own um but verse twenty five of Acts chapter twenty four is to me at least one of the saddest verses in the Bible because it talks about someone who is being given all this biblical instruction and biblical knowledge and all of that and yet his response is basically to summarize it come back later or when I have a convenient time come back then I we have two more passages to look at after this one and that last verse it tells us now busy accepted time not tomorrow not next week not waiting no and so looking at ass the book of ass and I'm being as intentional as I can be when I say that name because it's too close to something that's not appropriate and so I'm being very very extremely intentional with how I'm saying that book and Mickey um please help me out there if you feel I'm not saying it as I should be but I am trying as hard as I can um to say it correctly and so in chapter twenty four in verse twenty-five this verse is in the midst of the experience for this man and verse twenty-five says and as he reasoned of righteousness temperance and judgment to come he that is speaking of Paul notice that from previous verses and as he reads into virtuousness temperance and judgment to come feel it trembled and answered Go thy way for this time when I have a convenient time convenient season I will call for thee we don't hear much of Felix after that.
- 39:54SPEAKER_01: I don't know if we hear of him at all after that and like I say to me at least that especially when the verse says that he trembled so that tells me that he was being convicted by the Holy Spirit and yet he was choosing to tell Paul say I'll call for you when it's convenient for me.
- 40:49SPEAKER_01: Oh um that almost makes me start crying right now because the impact of that experience that Paul was trying the best that he could to convey to feel it's the truth and yet feel it's shows and Mikey do you have thoughts on that?
- 41:33SPEAKER_00: This scripture is very deep like we could do a whole podcast on this one scripture right here but yeah this is Apostle Paul he's basically on trial and he's boldly he's pre he's boldly preaching the gospel to a corrupt Roman governor which is Felix and his wife Jerusalem.
- 41:52SPEAKER_00: So as he's as he's preaching to Felix he's really trying to challenge Felix in understanding what righteousness temperance temperance and judgment to come is really about and so he's questioning him and he's kind of and he's he's boldly preaching he's not just making a light conversation of it he's boldly directly preaching on those three topics and he's confronting this powerful Roman official on all three fronts of of this conversation and um the reaction like it uh it strikes a chord in Felix's mind and makes him feel afraid fearful and convicted of his own sin.
- 42:38SPEAKER_00: So what's crazy about it is that instead of repenting he procrastinates and then he sends Paul away putting off his spiritual decision for a convenient season that actually never arrives.
- 42:56SPEAKER_00: So we this makes me think I I kind of can understand what you're saying too Bethany this scripture right here is so deep and powerful it makes me think of the scripture where God says depart from me I never knew you this whole this just this one scripture makes me think of this can't this is probably how Paul is feeling as he's being told to go away and come back when it when it's a convenient season I will call for you and he never calls for him and never happens we don't ever want to face that we don't want to face that trial we want to be called we want our names written in the Lamb's book of life so I love this illustration because it really does bring up the reminder especially when we're talking about temperance and self control um we need to have complete self control over all of our actions and yes we're gonna stumble we're gonna fall we're gonna make mistakes um that involves being righteous and also Involves the judgment.
- 44:03SPEAKER_00: We need to be thinking about the judgment that's going to come.
- 44:05SPEAKER_00: So if we're thinking about the judgment that's going to come, we're going to be more mindful to how we control ourselves and our actions and our behavior because we want to be righteous in our behavior and how we control what we're going through, if that makes sense at all.
- 44:21SPEAKER_00: And Paul is teaching this.
- 44:23SPEAKER_00: He's trying to help Felix, but Felix is, he's, he's, he's um perplexed or whatever you want to call it.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: And he's like, you know, now he's afraid.
- 44:35SPEAKER_00: He's very convicted.
- 44:37SPEAKER_00: And so he just sends Paul away.
- 44:38SPEAKER_00: He doesn't want to face the facts, is what he doesn't want to do.
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: What we need to do when we're talking about the fruits of the spirit is we need to face the facts of what the meaning is behind each and every one of them.
- 44:49SPEAKER_00: And we honestly truly need to try to work out our righteousness in operating in the fruits of the spirit.
- 44:59SPEAKER_00: That's where our spiritual growth is going to come from.
- 45:01SPEAKER_00: And the more we operate in that, the more righteous we will become.
- 45:05SPEAKER_00: Will we become holier than thou?
- 45:07SPEAKER_00: No, that's not the kind of righteous I'm talking about.
- 45:09SPEAKER_00: I'm talking about the righteousness that when we stand before God and that judgment does come, God's not going to say, Depart from me, I do not know you.
- 45:18SPEAKER_00: That's the kind of righteousness and temperance that we need to understand where this is coming from, if that makes any sense.
- 45:24SPEAKER_00: I hope I explained that in a way that you guys can understand it.
- 45:28SPEAKER_00: But there is a lot to that verse.
- 45:30SPEAKER_00: There's a whole lot to that whole chapter, but that verse is very powerful.
- 45:34SPEAKER_00: And it really does make me think about judgment day standing before God on the throne.
- 45:38SPEAKER_00: And we are all going to stand.
- 45:40SPEAKER_00: And here's the thing: when you stand before God on the throne, no one's going to be beside you.
- 45:44SPEAKER_00: You are on your own.
- 45:46SPEAKER_00: There's not going to be uh Felix's wife is not going to be there holding his hand, patting him on the back, going, Oh, well, you did your best.
- 45:53SPEAKER_00: That's not going to work.
- 45:54SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, we we don't want to, when we face that judgment, to not show up righteous.
- 46:03SPEAKER_00: We want to be operating in our righteousness.
- 46:05SPEAKER_00: Are we going to be perfect?
- 46:06SPEAKER_00: He doesn't require perfection.
- 46:08SPEAKER_00: He just requires an upright heart and a posture that we need to be walking around with.
- 46:13SPEAKER_00: And when we start connecting to the fruits of the spirit and that growth starts happening, then we will learn how to walk in that righteousness, if that makes sense.
- 46:24SPEAKER_00: So temperance is really important.
- 46:26SPEAKER_00: It's it's a lot of self-control.
- 46:28SPEAKER_00: Um, it's learning how to not speak when you shouldn't speak and to speak when you should speak.
- 46:33SPEAKER_00: And sometimes we do the opposite all the time, you know.
- 46:36SPEAKER_00: I I mean, I I I know I have.
- 46:38SPEAKER_00: And so it's learning to be um able to humble yourself and going, you know what?
- 46:46SPEAKER_00: Um sometimes we want total control.
- 46:50SPEAKER_00: We gotta allow God to have the control.
- 46:52SPEAKER_00: We got to give him the control over our thoughts.
- 46:56SPEAKER_00: It says to take every one of our thoughts captive in 2 Corinthians 10 and take them to the knowledge of God.
- 47:01SPEAKER_00: And if they don't line up, then we don't operate in it.
- 47:05SPEAKER_00: Are we doing that?
- 47:06SPEAKER_00: If we learn to do that operation, which I teach in my program, my coaching program, how to do that actually, actually teach you how to do that.
- 47:13SPEAKER_00: But when we do that, guess what happens?
- 47:16SPEAKER_00: You start operating in the fruits of the spirit and you learn how to operate in temperance because you learned how to have a self-control.
- 47:24SPEAKER_00: So Felix didn't have the self-control, and look what he did.
- 47:28SPEAKER_00: It never was resolved.
- 47:30SPEAKER_00: He never had him come back.
- 47:33SPEAKER_00: So thank goodness uh Felix wasn't the one who who um Paul had to face for judgment.
- 47:40SPEAKER_00: It's it's God.
- 47:42SPEAKER_00: So um, you know, now Felix is gonna have to face God himself on his own judgment and the convictions that he walked away from without repentance.
- 47:49SPEAKER_00: We have to repent of our sins.
- 47:51SPEAKER_00: So this is such a deep, deep um scripture that we could go on for hours about it.
- 47:57SPEAKER_00: So I'm not I'm gonna stop while we're ahead because I I really like it, like when you said it kind of makes you know, it kind of pulls your heartstrings.
- 48:04SPEAKER_00: It really is very personal, the scripture.
- 48:08SPEAKER_00: So, um, and it's a great scripture to talk about, but we should maybe consider diving into it the full part of that scripture another time because it's super super deep.
- 48:18SPEAKER_01: Yes, definitely will do that.
- 48:23SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 48:25SPEAKER_01: So as we look now at the last two passages um for this episode, we're going to Second Peter Chapter one verses four through six and these verses are again part of a collection part of a greater passage that should be studied individually on your own, but for right now verse four, whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises, that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
- 49:50SPEAKER_01: Verse 5.
- 49:52SPEAKER_01: And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, and to virtue, knowledge, percepts, and to knowledge, temperance, and to temperance patience, and to patience godliness.
- 50:18SPEAKER_01: And like I said, it does go on, um which that passage too will be um for at least one other episode.
- 50:35SPEAKER_01: Um if not more, because there's so much in this.
- 50:41SPEAKER_01: But what I wanted to highlight from that passage is notice when it says add.
- 50:53SPEAKER_01: Add to so it starts out with face and then it says add to virtue and knowledge and conference and so on.
- 51:11SPEAKER_01: So when we became when we become Christians, that's when the faith begins.
- 51:29SPEAKER_01: Yes, that is the time when our eternal security is settled, when we truly repent and believe on Jesus as Savior.
- 51:48SPEAKER_01: That's when our eternal security is set, but then that also starts our earthly journey of faith.
- 52:09SPEAKER_01: So in these verses here, like I say, it's talking about adding to things, and notice that like I say it starts with faith, and then it says add to, and it does talk about temperance, self-control.
- 52:35SPEAKER_01: What do we add to that?
- 52:37SPEAKER_01: We add patience because that does self-control does require patience, and so I do believe that's important to remember.
- 52:57SPEAKER_01: And so, Mikey, do you have thoughts on this?
- 53:01SPEAKER_00: No, I think that I mean, I think you summed it up pretty, pretty, pretty good.
- 53:05SPEAKER_00: I mean, um, like what you said, I think that as you know, we've already talked about faith, uh, mind you, and and we just talked about knowledge in 2 Corinthians.
- 53:15SPEAKER_00: Um, and and I I feel like this is just confirmation.
- 53:18SPEAKER_00: The scripture is a really good confirmation scripture to the lesson that we've already been working on today.
- 53:24SPEAKER_00: And um I feel like as um our listeners and our people watching today that they can go and um really dive into this and study it for themselves because I feel like they're gonna get so much from it.
- 53:40SPEAKER_00: Message.
- 53:41SPEAKER_00: It's just so it's just so incredibly deep that um it would just it would be surprising to me if somebody didn't get something out of it.
- 53:49SPEAKER_00: But I feel like you you summed it up perfectly, but I do feel like it kind of concludes everything as far as um the the fruits of the spirit together because they're connected.
- 53:59SPEAKER_00: Like I said in the beginning, there's no rhyme or reason to the order of operation to the fruits of the spirit.
- 54:05SPEAKER_00: But when you think of a tree and it's growing fruit, the fruit is all connected, and these fruits are all connected to one another.
- 54:11SPEAKER_00: That's why it says and to, and to, you know, we have to have faith, we have to have patience, we have to have meekness, we have to have goodness, we have to have love and joy and all of these things that God requires us to have.
- 54:23SPEAKER_00: And um I I feel like if if someone's struggling in any of those areas to be able to do that, to really go and sit at the feet of Jesus and just meditate on the fruits of the spirit and let God work on you.
- 54:37SPEAKER_00: I really feel like He will show you how to operate in these spirits, if that makes sense.
- 54:43SPEAKER_01: Yes, it's excellent to um not and to highlight.
- 54:55SPEAKER_01: And so one final verse.
- 55:03SPEAKER_01: As we you know, as we've talked today about meekness, as we've talked about temperance, as we what just a little bit at stance in Felix's life.
- 55:30SPEAKER_01: The Lord really impressed upon me that this verse needs to be our last verse for this episode so that we can chew on things, so that we can learn for ourselves, so that we can have the Holy Spirit just show us individually what we need to hear, what we need to learn and not be so not be so loud and understanding of you know oh I have I have plenty of time.
- 56:51SPEAKER_01: I can I can wait and I can do the all this and I can do it later.
- 57:02SPEAKER_01: And is I concerned I guess there's a Holy Spirit impressive army that we end with this verse.
- 58:00SPEAKER_01: Not that what we've said up to now isn't important.
- 58:06SPEAKER_01: It really is, it's majorly important.
- 58:11SPEAKER_01: But to leave with an understanding that now it's about now because once eternity starts anyone, it becomes joy.
- 58:47SPEAKER_01: And God is not willing that any share But that all should come to repentance.
- 59:01SPEAKER_01: And even if you are a Christian watching this, I would encourage you.
- 59:12SPEAKER_01: Don't give up on your family or friends.
- 59:17SPEAKER_01: Don't give up on anyone because God's not like I say, God's not wrong.
- 59:35SPEAKER_01: Nobody and so you know, even as we talk about feelings.
- 59:57SPEAKER_01: Where do you want to be?
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_01: Where do you want your family and friends to be?
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_01: Where do you want the people you see?
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_01: Out in your diverse communities in the Where do you want them?
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_01: Do you have any final thoughts?
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_00: Um, just that I mean, I feel like um I really want to encourage again, like I I said in the very beginning, that um um we are in, you know, we're at the the end of the fruits of the spirit as we're talking about these fruits.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_00: But um when I think about that passage with with Paul, um you nailed it like the time is now, it's not tomorrow, it's not in the morning, it's not before I go to bed, it's right now.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_00: Um, and if if that's anyone listening or watching right now, I I really would encourage you to um take the time right now to um think on this scripture and um ask God.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_00: You know, just pray and ask God and say, God, what what will you have of me?
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_00: You know, we want to glorify God, we want to walk in his righteousness.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_00: We don't want the wrath of judgment on us.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_00: That's gonna be uh depart from me.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_00: I do not know you.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_00: That is not what God wishes for anyone, even Felix and his wife.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_00: He didn't wish that upon them.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_00: Now we don't know what decision was ever made of that because you like, like you said, there wasn't a lot more conversation about it.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_00: So we kind of don't know.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_00: We're kind of left in the dark with that.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_00: But you know, what I got out of that was Paul was doing his very best to preach the gospel, the truth, so that they could have an opportunity to repent and get saved, honestly.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_00: And he said, just go away from me.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_00: I don't want to talk to you right now.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_00: So I I don't even encourage anybody to go away right now.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_00: I encourage you to stay and and just pray and ask God to come into your heart and forgive you of your sins and and spend that time with Jesus.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_00: And if you're if you're backslidden or if you're unsure, or if you feel like, oh, you know, I've made mistakes.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_00: I'm a Christian, but I've made mistakes.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_00: There's just repent.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_00: We don't even have to sit and repent about you know everything.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_00: God already knows everything we've done from this day past, everything we've ever done.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_00: He knows he knows all of our mistakes and our flaws.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_00: And he's not holding that us over our head.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_00: We hold that over our head.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_00: We dangle that like right here, like all of our shame and guilt and sin.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_00: We dangle it.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_00: God doesn't do that, he loves us, and he wants us to operate in in the fruits of the spirit so that he can give us the abundant life.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_00: Think of a beautiful fruit basket full of fruit, just juicy.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_00: And when we get to heaven, I I hear, you know, I've heard stories of people that have had encounters with heaven.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_00: They say the fruit in heaven is the best fruit in the whole, like is amazing.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_00: Like the fruit is amazing.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_00: And I can't believe how many people have actually talked about having a out-of-body experience in heaven, and they talk about fruit.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_00: And I always thought that's weird.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_00: Why would they just go up and eat the fruit?
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_00: Like, what you know, I don't know if that would be the first thing I would do when I got to heaven, but maybe.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_00: And because the fruits of the spirit are so important, I think that they're drawn to the fruit as soon as they see the fruit.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_00: That's how great the fruit is, and that's how much greatness God wants for us, honestly.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_00: I think that.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_00: And so we we we need to have the desire in our heart to want to be fruitful, to want to operate in righteousness and to make sure we need to be very clear in our hearts that on that judge, when that judgment comes, that God doesn't say, go away, I don't want to talk to you right now.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_00: God's not gonna say that, by the way.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_00: It's not gonna be that conversation.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_00: See, Felix was able to have that conversation with Paul because Paul was not God or Jesus.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_00: It's not gonna be the same conversation with us.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_00: So we need to be very mindful and careful.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_00: And um, and that's where the self-control, where the temperance comes in, because sometimes our pride stands in our own way of salvation.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_00: And that is huge.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_00: That is the worst place you'll ever want to be, ever, out of anything, is in your own way to salvation.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_00: And I encourage everyone today to just pray and ask Jesus to forgive you of your sin and come into your heart and to have him show you how to work and operate in the spirits, the fruits of the spirit.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_00: I mean, because I I mean, I'm not I'm I'm gonna say this and you guys are gonna be sick of it, but I guarantee you you are going to you're it's going to change your life.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_00: It will change your life.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_00: I but I firmly believe it will.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_00: If you actually read it, meditate on it, and operate in it, God will change you.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_00: And not for the worse, for the good fruit.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_00: He knows you have good fruit.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_00: He wants you to start producing it.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_00: We all have good fruit.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_00: He didn't make us to not produce good fruit.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_00: Think about that.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_00: He didn't make us to produce rotten fruit.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_00: That wasn't his goal ever.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_00: You know, yes, there's times and there's seasons and there's trials and tribulations.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_00: He still wants us to produce good fruit.
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_00: So we have to think about those things.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_00: So, in closing, I just want to say, you know, again, I encourage you to go back, follow along with the fruits of the Spirit, listen to all the episodes if you've missed any, um, and just sit and meditate and get in the Word.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_00: Read the scripture that we've shared with you, and um find a quiet place and just sit at the feet of Jesus for for a little while.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_00: That intimate moment that you'll have with Jesus is it's just it's not.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_00: Life reckoning, but in a good way.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_00: It's the best reckoning you'll ever have, I call it.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_00: You know, um, you will be derailed, I promise you, from from though you will be derailed from the pit of hell.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_00: So think about it that way.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_00: It's not a bad derailment.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_00: So um, thank you, Bethany, for all of the scripture you brought.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_00: Very, very powerful.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_00: I I had a I knew Holy Spirit was gonna just show up today.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_00: I knew it before we even started recording.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_00: I could just I could just feel the presence today, and I just feel like um there's an overwhelming need, right?
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_00: There's an urgency for people to get saved right now.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_00: We are living in the end times, and I know we don't really talk much about that.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_00: Maybe we need to start diving into that maybe a little bit more.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_00: We are in the end times.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_00: God could come back any minute.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_00: Things are happening so fast that he could come back at any point in time.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_00: I hope you're ready because God wants you to be ready.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_00: You know what he's waiting for?
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_00: The bride to be ready.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_00: That's us.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_00: We're the bride.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_00: And if we're not ready, what a horrible wedding day we're gonna have if we're not if we're the bride and we're not ready.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_00: It's gonna get ugly.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_00: So we need to be ready.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_00: You know, we need to get our lamps filled up with oil, we need to have the preparations done.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_00: It says to be ready in and out of season.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_00: Always.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_00: The candles should be burning.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_00: We are the light of the world, so we need to be operating in that.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_00: So again, great scripture today.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_00: Um, very, very heartfelt and um very, very deep um scripture.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_00: But I think that we need to take the time to meditate and um what have you, and maybe we'll do another, we'll do a little bit more on the fruits of the spirit on the next episode.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure yet.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_00: Um, but with this episode, I really hope that you connect with all the episodes connected to the fruits of the spirit so that you can be have all of the scripture.
