- 0:30Speaker 2: peer into the adults only theaters in sticky floored cinemas
- 0:35Speaker 2: of the golden age of sexploitation, when the morals were loose,
- 0:39Speaker 2: the laws were murky, and the intercourse was all simulated.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Find us now on the Someone's Favorite Productions Podcast Network.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Anything for a good cause.
- 1:10Speaker 4: I'm a security gude.
- 1:11Speaker 2: I kill people every fucking day. That's right.
- 1:15Speaker 1: When I was growing up in Bakersfield, my favorite thing
- 1:17Speaker 1: in all the world was to go to the movies
- 1:19Speaker 1: on Saturday afternoons for the chapter plays.
- 1:22Speaker 3: I know that, mister man. They also call them cereals.
- 1:26Speaker 3: I'm not stupid, you know. I am the.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Devil and I am here to do the Devil's work.
- 1:44Speaker 4: Happy Thanksgiving, dear listeners. This is the best I give,
- 1:49Speaker 4: the best I can come up with a kickoff this episode.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Welcome back to a brand new episode of the Beyond
- 1:54Speaker 4: the Blood podcast. My name is Chris Higgins aka Bearded
- 1:58Speaker 4: Film Guy, and as always, I'm here with my trusted turkey,
- 2:02Speaker 4: Steve from After Hours video.
- 2:05Speaker 3: What's happening, man, I'm excited to be here.
- 2:08Speaker 4: Yoh, what's your favorite? Uh? What's your favorite side on Thanksgiving?
- 2:14Speaker 3: Oh? That's tough. I'm a soccker for mashed potatoes, but
- 2:19Speaker 3: I feel like that's like more the generic answer. I
- 2:22Speaker 3: would have to say, like a good baked mac and
- 2:25Speaker 3: cheese as a side. Nice if somebody knows how to
- 2:30Speaker 3: do it correctly. Cornbread cast role, it's fire.
- 2:34Speaker 4: Oh okay, okay, I'm a big biscuit. Well, in our family,
- 2:39Speaker 4: we call them buffaloes because when my wife was a child,
- 2:42Speaker 4: she couldn't say the word biscuit. So now unanimously, the
- 2:46Speaker 4: whole family just calls them buffaloes. It's probably one of
- 2:48Speaker 4: my favorites. And then rice a roni is always a
- 2:50Speaker 4: good one for me. Okay, thank you know, we're very cheap,
- 2:54Speaker 4: it are.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Listen. It's it's more about the good times that you
- 3:00Speaker 3: have together with friends and family, you know, football, good food.
- 3:05Speaker 3: It's a whole file.
- 3:07Speaker 4: I want you to know right off the bat that
- 3:08Speaker 4: I am most thankful for having you as my coach. Likewise,
- 3:12Speaker 4: so and I'm most thankful to you dear listeners for
- 3:16Speaker 4: always always watching our show and dealing with that.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Absolutely, We're very thankful, very blessed. And speaking of a
- 3:23Speaker 3: blessing that we have for this time of year, we've
- 3:26Speaker 3: got Eli Ross Thanksgiving.
- 3:29Speaker 4: We couldn't think of a more on the nose film
- 3:32Speaker 4: to cover on Thanksgiving. We just couldn't do it, you know. No,
- 3:37Speaker 4: this was this was a really fun choice. This was
- 3:39Speaker 4: something that was more out of like what fits the season.
- 3:44Speaker 4: We had a couple of other options, but due to
- 3:46Speaker 4: availability and lack of commentaries, we weren't really able to
- 3:50Speaker 4: nail down a lot of the other ones. So I
- 3:53Speaker 4: think this has become kind of a staple for me
- 3:56Speaker 4: every year at this time. And this common terry was
- 4:00Speaker 4: with director Eli Roth and writer Jeff Rundell. I thought
- 4:04Speaker 4: it would be fun to kind of cover something newer, yeah,
- 4:08Speaker 4: you know, and essentially this is kind of a perfect
- 4:16Speaker 4: mashup we were talking about before we started recording. This
- 4:19Speaker 4: is a perfect mashup of eighties cheese and gore with
- 4:26Speaker 4: like the nineties slasher characterizations and it just kind of
- 4:31Speaker 4: mashes together and it's fun. It's corny. I don't love
- 4:36Speaker 4: it to death, but I always just have so much
- 4:39Speaker 4: fun with it. It's one that I've really come to
- 4:42Speaker 4: it to admire over the last couple of years, since
- 4:45Speaker 4: it's come out.
- 4:46Speaker 3: It's become a holiday staple the last couple of years.
- 4:50Speaker 3: I think that there's enough here that's definitely reminiscent of
- 4:56Speaker 3: we were talking about blood Rage, you know those seasonal
- 5:00Speaker 3: slashers that you get. But yeah, this is definitely a
- 5:05Speaker 3: fun one, just perfect for this time of year. I mean,
- 5:11Speaker 3: you can't go wrong with John Carver.
- 5:13Speaker 4: No, you cannot. You cannot go wrong with John Carver.
- 5:18Speaker 4: Before we get into kind of diving into this conversation
- 5:21Speaker 4: about Thanksgiving, we've been before every episode for the last well,
- 5:25Speaker 4: this is the second episode we actually this is a
- 5:27Speaker 4: long living tradition, like Thanksgiving is. We've been talking about
- 5:31Speaker 4: just some recent announcements that have been coming with commentary tracks.
- 5:35Speaker 4: There's been a bunch of new announcements from Severin like
- 5:40Speaker 4: just Franco's Vampire's Lesbos and She Killed in Ecstasy coming out,
- 5:46Speaker 4: but they're not coming with anything really new Besides the
- 5:49Speaker 4: four K upgrades, the biggest news that I could really
- 5:53Speaker 4: kind of pick up and since we've recorded last is
- 5:57Speaker 4: Osgod Perkins's latest film, Keeper is coming to four K,
- 6:01Speaker 4: just listed as coming soon. Net's coming with a commentary
- 6:05Speaker 4: by as good as good Perkins himself. So I'm happy
- 6:07Speaker 4: to see new films continue to get commentaries.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Absolutely, that makes me happy.
- 6:14Speaker 4: So news that's really all we have on that front.
- 6:18Speaker 4: This is kind of a crazy time of year because
- 6:21Speaker 4: there's not a lot of new stuff coming. It's more
- 6:25Speaker 4: preparing for Black Friday sales and all that other stuff
- 6:29Speaker 4: going on. But it's interesting to see are they announcements
- 6:34Speaker 4: coming for next year. Umbrella has been teasing their March
- 6:40Speaker 4: lineup and the bottom of their collage of photos, I
- 6:45Speaker 4: saw I spit on your grave. I'm curious what's happening there?
- 6:49Speaker 3: Puppet Master, Yeah.
- 6:51Speaker 4: I saw Puppetmaster. So curious to see kind of what's
- 6:55Speaker 4: you know, what's happening in the world of physical media.
- 6:57Speaker 4: I can't believe like we're already talking about shit coming
- 6:59Speaker 4: out March Wild, how fast that's going. Also, before we
- 7:07Speaker 4: get in, I wanted to just shout out real quick
- 7:10Speaker 4: that our production company someone's favorite productions. One of the founders,
- 7:18Speaker 4: Ryan from The Disconnected, hosts a physical media awards. The
- 7:23Speaker 4: show every year. This will be the fifth year called
- 7:26Speaker 4: the Shelf Shock Rewind, and this coming year in February,
- 7:31Speaker 4: I will be co hosting with Ryan for his final
- 7:35Speaker 4: Shelf Shock Rewind, So it's gonna be my first his final.
- 7:41Speaker 4: It's very exciting, dude, it's very exciting. I'm honored. I'm
- 7:45Speaker 4: honored to be asked. He of course is kind of
- 7:48Speaker 4: the incredible behind the scenes leader of this show. He's
- 7:51Speaker 4: put so much faith in us and invested so much
- 7:54Speaker 4: in us and along with the other amazing shows on
- 7:56Speaker 4: our network, it was it was incredible to be asked.
- 8:00Speaker 4: I was genuinely speechless, which is very rare for me
- 8:04Speaker 4: to go through. But if you're listening to this and
- 8:08Speaker 4: you're a physical media person, be sure to go on
- 8:10Speaker 4: YouTube look up Shelf Shock Rewind. Watch the last couple
- 8:14Speaker 4: of years. It's a fantastic awards ceremony, just celebrating physical media.
- 8:21Speaker 4: Nominated by fans of physical media as well as a committee.
- 8:24Speaker 4: So there's two awards per category, one that's fan voted,
- 8:27Speaker 4: one that's committee voted, and over the last couple of years,
- 8:31Speaker 4: there's been incredible appearances from people like Kyle Gollner, Sean Baker.
- 8:36Speaker 4: The list goes on and on of people who have appeared.
- 8:38Speaker 4: So I'm very excited to see who shows up for
- 8:42Speaker 4: this year's this year's award show. So if you're a fan,
- 8:47Speaker 4: keep an ear out, follow me on Instagram, follow Someone's
- 8:50Speaker 4: Fair Productions, Follow Ryan from Disconnected. I will live stream
- 8:55Speaker 4: this coming February. I'm excited to announce that. Oh yeah,
- 9:00Speaker 4: very very cool. Now, because we know, we know you're
- 9:05Speaker 4: all waiting for Thanksgiving dinner. We know the turkey, the
- 9:08Speaker 4: main course. If you will the main course, there will
- 9:12Speaker 4: be no left hit that one early. Yeah, let's get
- 9:18Speaker 4: into let's get into Thanksgiving. Man, we not wi you.
- 9:23Speaker 4: I meant to ask you. Were you a fan of
- 9:28Speaker 4: the trailer for Thanksgiving back when it premiered in two
- 9:33Speaker 4: thousand and seven's Grindhouse. Do you remember?
- 9:36Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, they had a bunch of fake trailers before
- 9:42Speaker 3: they rolled right into the double feature. Yeah. I can't
- 9:46Speaker 3: believe that this got turned into a movie. I'm pleasantly surprised.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Mmm if there was one out of those trailers that
- 9:54Speaker 3: got selected to actually be a like a feature length film.
- 9:58Speaker 3: This is the perfect one. Talking about this before we
- 10:01Speaker 3: hopped on here that I feel like, as far as
- 10:03Speaker 3: holiday slasher or slasher films go, Thanksgiving needs a little
- 10:07Speaker 3: bit more representation, and Eli Roth delivered. So yeah, but
- 10:14Speaker 3: they're fun. I mean that double feature just in general
- 10:17Speaker 3: is incredible. You got Death Proof and Planet Terror, and
- 10:21Speaker 3: I feel like that those trailers just set up the
- 10:23Speaker 3: aesthetic that that they were definitely going for with those movies.
- 10:29Speaker 4: I'm surprised it took so long for this to actually happen.
- 10:33Speaker 4: I agree, you know, Machete came out rather quickly, but
- 10:39Speaker 4: that came from Robert Rodriguez. That was really the only
- 10:43Speaker 4: one because there's a trailer on there by Edgar Wright.
- 10:47Speaker 4: I forget what the other ones were.
- 10:50Speaker 3: Uh, you've got uh We're Wolf Women of the SS
- 10:55Speaker 3: from Rob yep.
- 11:00Speaker 4: Just the title alone. I was like, oh, yeah, that's
- 11:02Speaker 4: a Rob zombie one.
- 11:03Speaker 3: That's why don't was Edgar Wright's contribution, hope, but with
- 11:08Speaker 3: a shotgun?
- 11:09Speaker 4: Oh that was one. Yeah, that turned into the Jason.
- 11:14Speaker 3: I forget his name, Eisner.
- 11:18Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, Jason Eisner directed that.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Yeah, Rucker Hower, it's something to behold.
- 11:25Speaker 4: I always forget about it's been so long since I've
- 11:28Speaker 4: seen your rind House, And finally, just within the last
- 11:32Speaker 4: couple of years, I got the double feature edition where
- 11:34Speaker 4: it can play as one long, continuous film with the
- 11:38Speaker 4: trailers always split up.
- 11:40Speaker 3: For me, yeah, it's uh. I feel like that these
- 11:45Speaker 3: films were definitely ahead of its time with what they
- 11:48Speaker 3: were trying to do with it.
- 11:50Speaker 4: Ahead of its time, yet homaging back behind its time
- 11:54Speaker 4: years and years.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Compared to what was coming out at the time. When
- 11:58Speaker 3: was that was.
- 12:00Speaker 4: Seven Yeah, yeah, ten seven Man the Crazy Effects and
- 12:05Speaker 4: CA and B went all out for those movies and
- 12:10Speaker 4: death Proof. It seems to be like kind of in
- 12:15Speaker 4: some retrospective articles or YouTube videos I've seen if people
- 12:20Speaker 4: rewatching Grindhouse, they people kind of put death Proof into
- 12:23Speaker 4: the lower tier of Quentin Tarantino's filmography, yet they consider
- 12:29Speaker 4: it higher tier than Planet Terror, which is I don't know.
- 12:34Speaker 4: I've always been more a Planet Terror fan. I think
- 12:36Speaker 4: I love Kurt Russell and Deathproof. I love Quentin Tarantino's style,
- 12:40Speaker 4: but Planet Terror just really goes for it in a way,
- 12:46Speaker 4: in a way I really admire, but death Proof feels
- 12:51Speaker 4: more authentic to the Grindhouse exploitation error makes sense because
- 12:58Speaker 4: Quentin Tarantino has his finger has a much better grasp
- 13:03Speaker 4: on what that era of film was as opposed to
- 13:08Speaker 4: Robert Rodriguez. But yeah, I still Planet Terror is my
- 13:12Speaker 4: favorite of the two.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Planet Terror I feel like always had a little bit
- 13:15Speaker 3: more rewatchability for me personally.
- 13:17Speaker 4: Yeah, because it's batshit crazy, dude. It's insane, Like Bruce
- 13:21Speaker 4: Willis is in it, Tarantino is in it.
- 13:24Speaker 3: It's crazy, dude.
- 13:26Speaker 4: It's a wild movie.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Oh you got me wanting to rewatch both of them.
- 13:30Speaker 4: Yeah right, Yeah, Well, what's funny about Thanksgiving is this
- 13:35Speaker 4: commentary track was fun. We were kind of discussing it
- 13:41Speaker 4: as what I felt a great entry level commentary track
- 13:47Speaker 4: should be. One thing I think my biggest takeaway from
- 13:50Speaker 4: this was the understanding of how low budget this movie
- 13:53Speaker 4: actually was. I know that the dollar amount can kind
- 13:57Speaker 4: of fool some people. This movie was shot in thirty
- 13:59Speaker 4: five days, and a lot of the stuff that we'll
- 14:04Speaker 4: talk about was very much on the fly, showing up
- 14:07Speaker 4: to the set and within minutes having to kind of
- 14:11Speaker 4: create your your scene. So a lot of stuff was
- 14:14Speaker 4: done very quickly. I believe the movie wrapped in you
- 14:19Speaker 4: said May.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Yes, it wrapped in let see May fifth, twenty twenty three.
- 14:29Speaker 4: It wrapped in May, and they recorded this commentary in September, so,
- 14:36Speaker 4: which was only a couple weeks before the movie came out.
- 14:38Speaker 4: So there's a very fast moving, very fast moving film
- 14:42Speaker 4: on the production side. And one thing they talk about
- 14:48Speaker 4: kind of immediately is that the idea for Thanksgiving goes
- 14:55Speaker 4: way back. It goes back to Jeff and Eli are
- 14:57Speaker 4: lifelong friends, goes back to they say they were twelve
- 15:01Speaker 4: years old when they got the concept. Both of them
- 15:05Speaker 4: grew up in Newton, Massachusetts, where essentially Thanksgiving was founded,
- 15:09Speaker 4: like they come from the heart of Thanksgiving, and growing
- 15:16Speaker 4: up they watched a ton of holiday horror films, and
- 15:20Speaker 4: the biggest influence was actually Silent Night, Deadly Night from
- 15:23Speaker 4: nineteen eighty four on them.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Would you consider that one of your favorite seasonal horror films?
- 15:32Speaker 3: I guess I didn't holiday horror films.
- 15:36Speaker 4: I didn't watch it as much as I did Halloween
- 15:42Speaker 4: probably Christmas. Now I would probably say it's one of
- 15:46Speaker 4: my favorites, but it took me a long time to
- 15:49Speaker 4: come around the Silent Night, Deadly Night. I think I
- 15:54Speaker 4: think it's a movie that I appreciated much more as
- 15:58Speaker 4: I got older and I got more into the genre.
- 16:02Speaker 3: A little extra helping of some sleaziness.
- 16:06Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, so this wasn't one I don't think I
- 16:08Speaker 4: would have been allowed a lot to watch, oh folloween,
- 16:12Speaker 4: you know, no, but yeah, they got into Silently a
- 16:18Speaker 4: Deadly Night and saw that, and that kind of kicked
- 16:22Speaker 4: off this satuation. You know, we all know that eli
- 16:25Speaker 4: Roth is a database for horror history and as as
- 16:31Speaker 4: you'll kind of see as we're talking about this movie
- 16:34Speaker 4: top of this commentary track, he references a lot of
- 16:37Speaker 4: movies that we know and we love stilder this day
- 16:40Speaker 4: in the genre. And one of the most interesting parts
- 16:43Speaker 4: was the marketing for the movie, which was some of
- 16:45Speaker 4: the promo imitation posters that they did. You want to
- 16:48Speaker 4: cover what a couple of those were?
- 16:51Speaker 3: Yeah, so a few of them that they rolled out
- 16:56Speaker 3: leading up to the premiere of this film. They had
- 16:59Speaker 3: one for the thirteenth, My Bloody Valentine, Texas Chainsaw and
- 17:04Speaker 3: Silent Night, Deadly Night. Basically, these posters were paying homage
- 17:09Speaker 3: to I think in some way, shape or form that
- 17:12Speaker 3: these films definitely inspired Thanksgiving. So it's always cool to
- 17:17Speaker 3: see that. It's a full circle moment with that.
- 17:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I love when movies you do that, just kind
- 17:22Speaker 4: of put where their references on their sleeves. I think
- 17:27Speaker 4: it's a lot of fun too, because this is such
- 17:29Speaker 4: a lost I feel like a lot of times the
- 17:32Speaker 4: holiday slashers kind of get lumped into the independent category
- 17:36Speaker 4: because it's independent filmmakers who are much more inspired from
- 17:40Speaker 4: this era are doing it. But now you have Thanksgiving
- 17:44Speaker 4: was the last big one, and then this year you
- 17:46Speaker 4: have a remake of Silent Night, Deadly Night Coming, which
- 17:49Speaker 4: is awesome to see. Oh yeah, very excited about that.
- 17:53Speaker 4: But one thing about Thanksgiving I really liked was right
- 17:59Speaker 4: off the jump. I worked retail my whole life. I've
- 18:02Speaker 4: been in retail since I was well enough to work,
- 18:05Speaker 4: so I've always worked. Not now, but I used to
- 18:09Speaker 4: always work holidays because they would reserve the time off
- 18:14Speaker 4: for the older employees who had grandkids and all this stuff,
- 18:19Speaker 4: and kids like me who were sixteen seventeen, we were
- 18:21Speaker 4: open on Thanksgiving. We would be stuck working, and you'd
- 18:25Speaker 4: be stuck at the Black Friday Rush or whatever else
- 18:28Speaker 4: is happening. And this movie kicks off the entire kickoff
- 18:34Speaker 4: for this movie is a Black Friday massacre that occurs
- 18:38Speaker 4: at the store, which I think is pretty much ignited
- 18:44Speaker 4: by a free waffle maker for the first one hundred customers.
- 18:51Speaker 4: And this is probably one of the best examples of
- 19:00Speaker 4: if you were to if valiens landed on Earth and
- 19:04Speaker 4: they were like, Hey, what's this consumerism thing, You're like,
- 19:07Speaker 4: here's Eli roll Thanksgiving. Watch the first fifteen minutes of this,
- 19:11Speaker 4: you'll understand what it's like. Yeah, it's pretty authentic what
- 19:17Speaker 4: it's like living in America on Black Friday.
- 19:20Speaker 3: It's I mean, I don't think we see it quite
- 19:23Speaker 3: to this extent anymore, but I would argue that there
- 19:27Speaker 3: are definitely videos that are out there from I would
- 19:30Speaker 3: say probably like the late nineties or early two thousands,
- 19:34Speaker 3: where this used to be more of like an event
- 19:39Speaker 3: and you would line up, try to get in there
- 19:42Speaker 3: as early as possible take advantage of these sales. And
- 19:46Speaker 3: as we know, they were clearly inspired by some of
- 19:49Speaker 3: the chaos the ensued when they had these Black Friday sales,
- 19:53Speaker 3: which is just wild to me. Obviously, the landscape for
- 19:56Speaker 3: shopping has changed pretty significantly, so hopefully nobody's getting trampled.
- 20:04Speaker 4: Well, we used to go out on Black Friday, not
- 20:06Speaker 4: to get deals, but to just watch the chaos of
- 20:09Speaker 4: how people treat each other. Oh my gosh, to save
- 20:12Speaker 4: four dollars on something because it's got a red sticker
- 20:15Speaker 4: on it instead of no sticker.
- 20:17Speaker 3: I swear. And one thing, well, real quickly, one thing
- 20:21Speaker 3: that we were talking about is there's there's a lot
- 20:24Speaker 3: of shades of Donna the Dead when it comes to
- 20:28Speaker 3: the social commentary, the social commentary that this is presenting,
- 20:31Speaker 3: which is it's pretty cool to see that.
- 20:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I think Donna the Dead is much more intelligent
- 20:38Speaker 4: and it's commentary. This is very much in your face.
- 20:41Speaker 4: You know this, This opening scene of the massacre, the
- 20:45Speaker 4: Black Friday masacer is fantastic because it establishes everything that
- 20:49Speaker 4: you need to know. It establishes your core characters, whether
- 20:53Speaker 4: it's our younger characters, or it's Patrick Dempsey as the sheriff,
- 20:59Speaker 4: it's Tim Dillon as a security guard. It establishes everything
- 21:04Speaker 4: that you need to know. And this was actually based
- 21:08Speaker 4: Jefferyndell talks about how he was watching YouTube videos of people.
- 21:12Speaker 4: His exact quote is trampling over one another on Black
- 21:14Speaker 4: Friday over toaster ovens. So now, how do you take
- 21:18Speaker 4: that to the next level. And the next level is
- 21:21Speaker 4: what looked like thousands of people showing up to seemingly
- 21:26Speaker 4: the only store in town. It looks like, right this, yeah,
- 21:30Speaker 4: there must not be any other and everybody's showing up there.
- 21:35Speaker 4: They only hired two security guards to work this whole thing,
- 21:39Speaker 4: one of them is Tim Dillon. And eventually the gates
- 21:44Speaker 4: that they put up get trampled down, and then the
- 21:46Speaker 4: windows break on the store and you have one guy
- 21:51Speaker 4: who's stabbed in the throat by broken glass as he's
- 21:56Speaker 4: pushed into the doorway. Another guy gets crushed. We have
- 22:01Speaker 4: scalps being ripped off and arms being broken.
- 22:05Speaker 3: By by a shopping cart, no less.
- 22:07Speaker 4: By shopping carts. There's numerous, there's numerous. It's it's really
- 22:14Speaker 4: chaotic and gross, and it's so over the top. But
- 22:19Speaker 4: it's this is to me when I hear Black Friday,
- 22:23Speaker 4: this is kind of what I was already instantly thinking
- 22:25Speaker 4: of in my head. So to see it put out
- 22:28Speaker 4: like this, it's a great way to open the movie,
- 22:31Speaker 4: I think.
- 22:32Speaker 3: I mean, it's the chaos has dialed up to like ten.
- 22:36Speaker 4: Yeah, oh my god. Yeah, And you know, there's there's
- 22:41Speaker 4: tragedy here and there's a loss, and this is the catalyst,
- 22:46Speaker 4: the kickoff for the entire film. This is a very
- 22:51Speaker 4: dark event in this town and it kind of brought
- 22:54Speaker 4: out the worst of people. And you know, from here
- 22:59Speaker 4: we get in too much more the traditional slasher elements
- 23:04Speaker 4: of the story. So we have our inciting event. It's
- 23:06Speaker 4: going on. And one thing I do want to say,
- 23:09Speaker 4: I love Patrick Dempsey in this role of the sheriff.
- 23:13Speaker 4: I think he's great. They talk a lot on this
- 23:16Speaker 4: commentary track about how he's never really had the ability
- 23:19Speaker 4: to play a role like this before. Like, sure he
- 23:21Speaker 4: was in Scream three, right, that was him in Scream three. Yeah,
- 23:28Speaker 4: it is, yeah, but he's just he's yeah. This is
- 23:34Speaker 4: really his ability to go all out and play a
- 23:37Speaker 4: really fun character. There's a very good young cast here.
- 23:41Speaker 4: I do think this is sort of the beginning of
- 23:44Speaker 4: me losing relatability or understanding of youth in film, because
- 23:50Speaker 4: I don't get just a lot of what they're into
- 23:56Speaker 4: of getting to that age. But it's okay because everyone's great.
- 24:00Speaker 4: This entire cast is a lot of fun, and this
- 24:06Speaker 4: movie just kind of goes for everything right. It takes
- 24:10Speaker 4: place in this town, of Plymouth, very very very heavy
- 24:15Speaker 4: Thanksgiving oriented town, and even things down to our first
- 24:21Speaker 4: setting after the massacre, the Captain Diner is just so
- 24:28Speaker 4: over the top with its it's dressing. Everything is related
- 24:33Speaker 4: to John Carver, very festive in some way, like it's
- 24:39Speaker 4: like it just ingrained in this town's being. There's nothing
- 24:42Speaker 4: in this sound that doesn't scream Thanksgiving.
- 24:47Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's definitely, you know, because I think you
- 24:51Speaker 3: could trace us back to some of the other like
- 24:54Speaker 3: holiday horror films that we see, and I definitely think
- 24:58Speaker 3: that there's some that make it feel more atmospheric with
- 25:02Speaker 3: like holiday decorations or traditions more so than others. Thanksgiving definitely,
- 25:10Speaker 3: I mean there's no beaten around it. I mean you're
- 25:13Speaker 3: getting more than your fair share of like Thanksgiving decor
- 25:18Speaker 3: and you know, obviously the John Carver masks are a
- 25:20Speaker 3: big part of it. And I feel like that that
- 25:23Speaker 3: almost in a lot of ways presents like a lot
- 25:25Speaker 3: of like red herrings, us constantly guessing as to who
- 25:29Speaker 3: potentially the killer could be, which I think is pretty awesome.
- 25:32Speaker 4: Well, this movie is essentially just a a hodgepodge of
- 25:36Speaker 4: every slasher trope, every everything that has ever been, and
- 25:44Speaker 4: ever will be in traditional slasher films are here, but
- 25:47Speaker 4: it's handled, I think, very smart. And you have somebody
- 25:51Speaker 4: like eli Roth at the helm. But because you have
- 25:54Speaker 4: somebody like eli Roth, you have moments like this at
- 25:58Speaker 4: the diner, when we're introduced to the new deputy, Brett
- 26:01Speaker 4: la Belle, and he's introduced by seeing a lifted Bronco
- 26:07Speaker 4: come flying into the parking lot cutting off somebody who's
- 26:10Speaker 4: leaving the diner, and the poor guy leaving the leads
- 26:14Speaker 4: his head out the window and goes like, what the
- 26:17Speaker 4: hell was that? And the new deputy just leans out
- 26:19Speaker 4: of his bronco and goes, fuck you, and like it's
- 26:24Speaker 4: that's man, that's it. Bro, Like, we're so thankful to
- 26:28Speaker 4: have this town. Yeah, Thanksgiving, but fuck you.
- 26:31Speaker 3: Sometimes you need that.
- 26:34Speaker 4: I do love This is the introduction of the John
- 26:36Speaker 4: Carver mask, which they're just giving away here at the diner.
- 26:41Speaker 4: It's such a cool look.
- 26:43Speaker 3: I was gonna say, what are your thoughts on the
- 26:46Speaker 3: entire the mask?
- 26:49Speaker 4: Oh, it's great, It's yeah, it's phenomenal. It's really because
- 26:54Speaker 4: the mask has this copper kind of tint to it,
- 26:58Speaker 4: which is is so the pilgrimage get up makes for
- 27:02Speaker 4: a fantastic silhouette, especially because of the brim of the hat.
- 27:07Speaker 4: It's really such a cool look. And one thing that
- 27:10Speaker 4: they talk about in the commentary is how throughout the
- 27:14Speaker 4: film they actually have different actors playing John Carver, so
- 27:18Speaker 4: that way the mannerisms change just slight enough that it
- 27:24Speaker 4: throws off who you might have thought it was the
- 27:28Speaker 4: last time you saw him. So it's always a little bit,
- 27:32Speaker 4: which I thought was a clever move. And when you're
- 27:35Speaker 4: talking of red Herrings, there's moments like this in the
- 27:39Speaker 4: in the Kepitan Diner when the new deputy bretla Bell
- 27:44Speaker 4: talked about earlier the fuck you guy. He it's so
- 27:49Speaker 4: it's so on purpose, man. They he puts on the
- 27:52Speaker 4: John Carver mask, puts on the hat. He's sitting next
- 27:56Speaker 4: to the sheriff, Patrick Dempsey, and he puts on the
- 27:58Speaker 4: pilgrim hat and he says, yeah, I can get used
- 28:01Speaker 4: to this, and the music swells and it you know,
- 28:04Speaker 4: it's very, very in your face red herring, actually so
- 28:09Speaker 4: much so that you automatically kind of go like, it
- 28:11Speaker 4: can't be this guy. This is too two of them.
- 28:14Speaker 3: Well, and I know that we were talking about how
- 28:19Speaker 3: there's some eighties and nineties Slashers that are out there
- 28:22Speaker 3: where you're constantly trying to figure out the identity of
- 28:26Speaker 3: the killer. But both you and I are very aviad
- 28:30Speaker 3: Yellow fans, and I would also say that there's a
- 28:34Speaker 3: lot of similarity in how they approach this to that
- 28:38Speaker 3: in certain ways. And I guess you could probably touch
- 28:40Speaker 3: on that a little bit more, because I know that
- 28:43Speaker 3: they had had talked about some influence from Dario Argento. Correct.
- 28:48Speaker 4: Yeah, with visual the difference is, you know, with Jallo's
- 28:54Speaker 4: a lot of times the reveals are so out of
- 28:59Speaker 4: left field. They're just like I remember watching one in
- 29:04Speaker 4: particular that we'll be talking about more next year, where
- 29:08Speaker 4: it's like just the most minimal character you you could
- 29:12Speaker 4: have seen is the killer and they just go so
- 29:16Speaker 4: far to make sure that you don't guess who the
- 29:19Speaker 4: killer was. We're and this is kind of one of
- 29:22Speaker 4: the things I was thinking about while watching Thanksgiving, is
- 29:25Speaker 4: this movie I think captures the the cheese of eighty Slashers.
- 29:32Speaker 4: But what's different is that eighty Slashers were cheesy, in
- 29:36Speaker 4: my opinion, not on purpose, they just were from the
- 29:40Speaker 4: nature of things. When movies now are trying to recapture
- 29:44Speaker 4: that spirit. They try to be cheesy, and it kind
- 29:47Speaker 4: of loses a little bit of that authenticity, a little
- 29:50Speaker 4: bit of that like natural like that natural ability to
- 29:56Speaker 4: be a little silly and a little funny, because now
- 29:58Speaker 4: they're they're forcing it to try.
- 30:00Speaker 3: To be like that.
- 30:02Speaker 4: So there's things in this movie that I really like
- 30:07Speaker 4: in others where I'm like, Okay, I can see what
- 30:09Speaker 4: you're trying to do, and maybe somebody who's not as
- 30:14Speaker 4: hardcore a fan of what you're trying to be like
- 30:16Speaker 4: doesn't pick up on it as much, but it still
- 30:19Speaker 4: kind of loses me a little bit at times, and
- 30:22Speaker 4: movies like this.
- 30:24Speaker 3: Yes, I think it's towing that thin line between camp
- 30:30Speaker 3: and it being more genuine and them going overboard with it,
- 30:35Speaker 3: because I feel like that that's where sometimes it can
- 30:37Speaker 3: fall flat in certain films.
- 30:39Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah. During this opening scene, I think my favorite
- 30:43Speaker 4: part of this whole opening bit is the showing the
- 30:47Speaker 4: CEO or like the founder of this store where the
- 30:51Speaker 4: masacre happens, you know, at home, eating dinner with his family,
- 30:55Speaker 4: you know, no no worries at all, no stress, and
- 30:58Speaker 4: then you have the mat of the store who has
- 31:02Speaker 4: to leave mid Thanksgiving dinner, you know, to go be
- 31:05Speaker 4: there for the chaos of Black Friday. It's also during
- 31:08Speaker 4: all this scene we're introduced to a bunch of our
- 31:10Speaker 4: main characters, which is Jessica Wright played by nel verloc
- 31:16Speaker 4: We have Jalen Brooks who plays her boyfriend at the time, Bobby.
- 31:21Speaker 4: We're introduced to Lannie. We're introduced to Lizzie. We're introduced
- 31:25Speaker 4: to Gabby, who's played by Addison Ray, just a massive
- 31:30Speaker 4: name on social media. Gabrielle Davenport plays Scooby or Scooby.
- 31:34Speaker 4: Oh my god, Scooby Scuba was like, yeah, I just
- 31:40Speaker 4: went way off the rails to uh play Scuba. We're
- 31:44Speaker 4: introduced to every character in this opening scene, and fast
- 31:51Speaker 4: forward a couple of months, we're reintroduced to Patrick Dempsey's
- 31:55Speaker 4: character and the first real death scene of the movie
- 31:59Speaker 4: outside of the massacre at the supermarket, which is at
- 32:05Speaker 4: the diner. It's a Lizzie played by Amanda Barker. Her
- 32:08Speaker 4: death scene just really when this movie gets cool.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Man.
- 32:12Speaker 4: There's this really great moment when she's closing up for
- 32:15Speaker 4: the night. I don't know why movies always portray employees
- 32:19Speaker 4: closing up places like this. Alone.
- 32:23Speaker 3: But it would never it would never fly in most
- 32:26Speaker 3: social settings.
- 32:27Speaker 4: It doesn't happen. And this is the movie just kind
- 32:30Speaker 4: of dives right into it. There's this great moment where
- 32:33Speaker 4: she's she's crossing the frame and you see John Carver
- 32:37Speaker 4: real quick pop up in the window from the front kitchen,
- 32:41Speaker 4: which is very good. This is where eli Roth talks
- 32:47Speaker 4: about their Argento shot, and it's when he picks up
- 32:51Speaker 4: the razor or no, it's when he raises the razor,
- 32:54Speaker 4: when he first attacks Amanda and he raises the razor,
- 32:58Speaker 4: and there's the shot of the hand because he wears
- 32:59Speaker 4: glove holding the razor and it slashes her hand open.
- 33:02Speaker 4: That's what he calls their Argento shot right there. What's
- 33:09Speaker 4: your thoughts on the cut in half moment of this?
- 33:18Speaker 3: I mean, it's definitely over the top.
- 33:21Speaker 2: Like it.
- 33:22Speaker 3: There's there's certain kills in this movie. Well I appreciate them.
- 33:29Speaker 3: I think it's you're trying to Yeah, I could see
- 33:36Speaker 3: how this wouldn't necessarily be for everyone just because of
- 33:39Speaker 3: how graphic it is, but for horror fans like you
- 33:43Speaker 3: and myself, I'm all for it.
- 33:47Speaker 4: It's so yeah, this is a gross Basically, this poor
- 33:54Speaker 4: waitress goes through helen back she gets her hand cut open.
- 34:00Speaker 4: Carver then pushes her up against the freezer door yep,
- 34:06Speaker 4: which is frozen, which freezes her face and rips the
- 34:11Speaker 4: side of her face off and her fingertips. She picks
- 34:16Speaker 4: up her phone to try to call for help, but
- 34:19Speaker 4: she can't because it's not recognizing her face, and her
- 34:23Speaker 4: fingers can't unlock it because she has no fingertips anymore.
- 34:27Speaker 4: She gets out of the diner and then stops in
- 34:32Speaker 4: the middle of the parking lot too. I guess she's
- 34:36Speaker 4: retrieving her keys. And John Carver proceeds to chase her
- 34:40Speaker 4: down with his car, and she jumps. I'm trying to
- 34:44Speaker 4: understand even the physics of how any of this works.
- 34:47Speaker 4: She jumps, Chris, don't question it too much. I'm racking
- 34:51Speaker 4: my brain. She goes to jump into a dumpster and
- 34:55Speaker 4: she only gets halfway in, and the car hits the dumpster,
- 34:58Speaker 4: and I guess the the motion of hitting the dumpster
- 35:03Speaker 4: rips her in half. I think, right, it's a terrible
- 35:09Speaker 4: way to go out. It's brutal. It's brutal. But the
- 35:12Speaker 4: best part of this is how right after this it
- 35:15Speaker 4: cuts to this wide shot of the store from the
- 35:20Speaker 4: beginning of the right Mart from the beginning of the movie,
- 35:24Speaker 4: and it's the sign out front, and the bottom half
- 35:29Speaker 4: of her body is posed on the right Mart sign
- 35:34Speaker 4: and right to the left of her body is a
- 35:36Speaker 4: big banner this is Black Friday fifty percent off sale.
- 35:41Speaker 4: It's so.
- 35:43Speaker 3: In you have to appreciate the humor, yeah, that they
- 35:48Speaker 3: have sprinkled throughout this, because I guess you could look
- 35:51Speaker 3: at this as face value. It's like, you know, Slasher,
- 35:55Speaker 3: that's real nasty with the kills and everything. But I
- 35:59Speaker 3: don't know. Sometimes the comedic timing is is pretty on point.
- 36:03Speaker 4: It is funny. It is it's it's the kind of
- 36:05Speaker 4: laugh it's not, you know, you're not getting a belly
- 36:07Speaker 4: laugh out of it. But it's like, okay, all right,
- 36:10Speaker 4: like this is this is tongue in cheek.
- 36:12Speaker 3: I see what she did there.
- 36:14Speaker 4: I get it. I get which I never the three
- 36:16Speaker 4: times I had seen this movie before we started prepping
- 36:18Speaker 4: for this episode, I never noticed a fifty percent off
- 36:20Speaker 4: sign there until they pointed it out in the commentary.
- 36:26Speaker 4: It's at this point where we kind of start getting
- 36:28Speaker 4: the idea. John Carver has an Instagram and it just
- 36:33Speaker 4: randomly shows up. It follows all of our main characters
- 36:36Speaker 4: who were present for the massacre. And somehow I can't
- 36:41Speaker 4: get away with posting a bloody image of a character
- 36:46Speaker 4: from a movie on Instagram, but somehow John Carver can
- 36:48Speaker 4: get away with posting an actual dead body on Instagram
- 36:51Speaker 4: and doesn't get blocked. There is account deleted or nothing.
- 36:58Speaker 3: I will. I will say though, over the course of
- 37:02Speaker 3: the film, what I thought was really interesting is some
- 37:06Speaker 3: callbacks to the film Happy Birthday to Me with the
- 37:09Speaker 3: dinner scene, and you know, being really big into like
- 37:14Speaker 3: older slasher films and older horror films, you know, scenes
- 37:18Speaker 3: like that, I can just really have a deeper appreciation for.
- 37:21Speaker 4: For sure, perfect timing, because so much has changed in
- 37:27Speaker 4: this town in such a short span which we're introduced
- 37:29Speaker 4: to characters. Characters break up, our two main characters, technically
- 37:33Speaker 4: our main character, Ellie, her and her boyfriend break up,
- 37:36Speaker 4: and there's this great little reuniting of them after she
- 37:44Speaker 4: kind of gets spoken with at the police station and
- 37:47Speaker 4: they kind of go walking around this town. And this
- 37:50Speaker 4: is when we're really introduced to the town of Plymouth,
- 37:54Speaker 4: and it's very much like there's a John Carver statue
- 37:57Speaker 4: right outside of the police station and they're walking around town.
- 38:01Speaker 4: And one thing that eli Rolph talks about is how
- 38:04Speaker 4: essential it was to shoot this movie genuinely in winter.
- 38:08Speaker 4: So the movie was shot in Toronto or around Toronto.
- 38:12Speaker 4: This was the scene was done at a town called
- 38:15Speaker 4: Port Perry. He really wanted to capture that slasher kind
- 38:19Speaker 4: of nostalgia of regional horror, and he directly mentioned films
- 38:23Speaker 4: like House by the Cemetery, The Prowler, Don't Go Into House,
- 38:27Speaker 4: My Bloody Valentine as examples of regional horror horror that
- 38:31Speaker 4: really lean into location and setting. I think of all
- 38:36Speaker 4: of those, My Bloody Valentine is kind of the the
- 38:40Speaker 4: perfect example.
- 38:42Speaker 3: Oh absolutely, to me, there was no.
- 38:44Speaker 4: Better horror film in the eighties that established location in
- 38:48Speaker 4: such a believable location that that really owns the holiday
- 38:52Speaker 4: and feels like it embraces it as such like it
- 38:56Speaker 4: did in My Bloody Valentine.
- 38:59Speaker 3: Well, and just on a side note, I mean, I
- 39:02Speaker 3: know we were talking about this before we got started.
- 39:06Speaker 3: As far as like cinematography goes Blanchidima known for hostile
- 39:12Speaker 3: and Hostile part two, I thought that, I mean, overall,
- 39:19Speaker 3: I think did like a standout job with just some
- 39:24Speaker 3: of these. There's like certain shots you see throughout the
- 39:26Speaker 3: film that I just think are so iconic and just
- 39:30Speaker 3: did a really great job elevating the film to capture,
- 39:35Speaker 3: you know, the aesthetic of the regional set horror obviously
- 39:39Speaker 3: that takes place in this film.
- 39:41Speaker 4: Yeah, it's not a I would not consider this a
- 39:46Speaker 4: stylized film. Visually, it's very much I think it's shot
- 39:51Speaker 4: very well. Yes, I think it's very much coverage based
- 39:55Speaker 4: shooting with some really cool additions. A lot of the
- 40:00Speaker 4: stuff was shot so on the fly, and I think
- 40:05Speaker 4: he does bring a nice elegance and understanding of establishing location.
- 40:12Speaker 4: And they talk about a lot how they there were
- 40:15Speaker 4: times they were shooting this movie and it was like
- 40:16Speaker 4: eight degrees outside lesser than eight degrees sometimes with the
- 40:21Speaker 4: actors just freezing all the time, and pretty much everything
- 40:26Speaker 4: that they shot and you can almost see it. There's
- 40:29Speaker 4: actually times when he points out how characters are blue
- 40:32Speaker 4: because of how cold it is, which is not me.
- 40:36Speaker 4: Bro I quit day.
- 40:37Speaker 3: One, not cut out for this movie.
- 40:40Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah. And it's fun, man, it's fun, And
- 40:44Speaker 4: there's moments like this there. I want to talk about
- 40:49Speaker 4: something real quick. I want to get your your opinion
- 40:54Speaker 4: on it. Y one thing that bothers me about modern
- 40:59Speaker 4: day horror, and I get it's such a nitpick, and
- 41:02Speaker 4: I get it. People are gonna be like, dude, why
- 41:03Speaker 4: are you complaining about this? But there's there's so many
- 41:06Speaker 4: other people out there complaining about it. CGI blood is
- 41:11Speaker 4: probably one of the worst things to ever happen to
- 41:14Speaker 4: the genre. It's terrible.
- 41:18Speaker 3: Man, there's times where it almost takes me out of
- 41:21Speaker 3: the movie. It does because it just doesn't it's either
- 41:25Speaker 3: too over the top or you can kind of noticeably tell.
- 41:30Speaker 4: You can tell right away, Yeah, you can, you can
- 41:33Speaker 4: tell immediately. I mean I'm talking about this specifically. During
- 41:39Speaker 4: Manny's death scene. Tim Dillon, who was the security guard
- 41:43Speaker 4: at the right mark the night of the massacre, who
- 41:45Speaker 4: ran away essentially when the when the when the e
- 41:48Speaker 4: fence collapsed, it's pretty much gonna die if he didn't
- 41:53Speaker 4: try to run away. But he gets stabbed by a
- 42:01Speaker 4: turkey cutter in the stomach and there's this weird shot
- 42:07Speaker 4: that shows his so we get stabbed. The turkey cutter
- 42:10Speaker 4: is on and his shirt gets real bloody, real fast,
- 42:13Speaker 4: but the blood doesn't even look like it's on the shirt.
- 42:16Speaker 4: It looks like it's like on top of him. It's
- 42:20Speaker 4: really it's really odd.
- 42:23Speaker 3: That part took me out of it a little bit.
- 42:27Speaker 3: It's hard not to notice that. And I don't think
- 42:30Speaker 3: that age is the best as time goes on when
- 42:34Speaker 3: you like utilize CGI blood. So it's unfortunate. I mean,
- 42:38Speaker 3: I wish that that would have been something that they
- 42:39Speaker 3: would have done it was a little bit more practical.
- 42:42Speaker 4: What's almost like whiplash, because right after that you have
- 42:44Speaker 4: this great practical decapitation or partly practical decapitation when he
- 42:50Speaker 4: gets his head slight cut off by the razor wire
- 42:54Speaker 4: or some sort of wire that John Carver uses, and
- 42:57Speaker 4: you have this great, great effect, which it looks like
- 43:01Speaker 4: it was a practical effect that was then kind of
- 43:03Speaker 4: maybe enhanced with computer generated blood. And again it kind
- 43:09Speaker 4: of takes me out in there's a moment when and
- 43:14Speaker 4: Eli Roth cracked me up when he talked about it.
- 43:17Speaker 4: How John Carver takes Tim Dillon's head, puts it in
- 43:20Speaker 4: his bag, and he goes to walk out and realizes
- 43:22Speaker 4: that the cat is hungry, so he turns around and
- 43:26Speaker 4: feeds the cat, and it.
- 43:29Speaker 3: Almost reminds me of I think we were talking about
- 43:32Speaker 3: it the other night and Friday the Thirteenth, Part two,
- 43:35Speaker 3: where after he basically takes care of Alice, she had
- 43:41Speaker 3: the kettle on the stovetop and he proceeds to just
- 43:44Speaker 3: take it off plate like wow, gentleman.
- 43:49Speaker 4: Yeah, So he feeds the cat and in the background
- 43:52Speaker 4: it shows Tim Dillon's body and it's like Mortal combat
- 43:56Speaker 4: level of like blood shooting out of the stem of
- 43:59Speaker 4: the head and looks like Mortal Kombat effects in the back.
- 44:02Speaker 4: It really just drove me up a wall, to be honest.
- 44:06Speaker 3: With you, But there were there were aspects about that
- 44:12Speaker 3: there reminded me a lot of William Lustig's maniac with
- 44:16Speaker 3: that scene specifically.
- 44:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I could see that so up.
- 44:21Speaker 3: Close and personal and just very like violent it is.
- 44:25Speaker 4: They talk about how that was a military technique, how
- 44:29Speaker 4: you whip the cord over and then he spins and
- 44:32Speaker 4: faces away from him and uses the leverage of pulling
- 44:36Speaker 4: his body weight down to remove the head.
- 44:39Speaker 3: That'd be terrible.
- 44:41Speaker 4: That's crazy, dude, That's that's that's crazy work. Yeah. The
- 44:44Speaker 4: cgi blood just really messes me up sometimes, and it
- 44:48Speaker 4: pops around a lot in this movie. But one thing
- 44:52Speaker 4: I really appreciate, and we were kind of talking about
- 44:55Speaker 4: how this film feels like more it has nineties elements
- 45:00Speaker 4: and it's DNA, because I really like there's this great
- 45:05Speaker 4: moment when the group of friends get together and they
- 45:08Speaker 4: get together in this cosmetology classroom in their high school,
- 45:12Speaker 4: which is a mirror and it's got this big mirror
- 45:15Speaker 4: in the middle of it, and they kind of get
- 45:17Speaker 4: together and start kind of discussing motives and who the
- 45:21Speaker 4: killer could be. And this is that long standing traditional
- 45:26Speaker 4: trope of the friends getting together and having this discussion
- 45:29Speaker 4: and figuring out, you know, kind of like their theories
- 45:32Speaker 4: on it. And Eli Roth talks about how important it
- 45:35Speaker 4: was to kind of have these slasher tropes so upfront,
- 45:40Speaker 4: to kind of stay within the traditions, you know what I.
- 45:44Speaker 3: Mean, very very reminiscent of Scream I know, which did
- 45:51Speaker 3: last summer Urban Legend Valentine.
- 45:54Speaker 4: Yeah, you'll find this in all of them, pick up
- 45:56Speaker 4: any of them. You'll find this scene somewhere in some way.
- 46:00Speaker 4: This I really like because of the they talk about
- 46:02Speaker 4: how they came in to shoot this and this this
- 46:04Speaker 4: room just happened to be a real cosmetology department in
- 46:09Speaker 4: the school and it had this big mirror and they
- 46:12Speaker 4: came in and just started shooting. They just will get
- 46:16Speaker 4: coverage through the mirror, and they captured a lot of
- 46:18Speaker 4: these little beautiful character moments in it, which I really liked,
- 46:21Speaker 4: and I think visually it has a nice aesthetic to
- 46:24Speaker 4: it's a very nice scene. And then this is immediately
- 46:30Speaker 4: followed up by two of the wildest little death scenes
- 46:36Speaker 4: in the movie, which is our reintroduction to Lannie, who
- 46:40Speaker 4: was kind of the main one of the main assholes
- 46:43Speaker 4: at the front of the terrible crowd at the market.
- 46:50Speaker 4: And there's this great shot I love this tracking shot
- 46:52Speaker 4: in the gym of him kind of going through. It
- 46:56Speaker 4: starts off as a close up and it kind of
- 46:58Speaker 4: pans out and follows him through the gym as pole
- 47:00Speaker 4: we're doing squats and all kinds of stuff, and he
- 47:05Speaker 4: he sees Amy, who's a cheerleader outside, he goes with her.
- 47:10Speaker 4: He's following her into I think it looks like a stage.
- 47:13Speaker 4: I think it's supposed to be a stage. I don't
- 47:16Speaker 4: really understand the dynamics of or it's a gym.
- 47:20Speaker 3: Yeah, that's why I thought it was.
- 47:22Speaker 4: Yeah, it's very interesting that the dynamics of like trying
- 47:26Speaker 4: to track the setting of this scene, and she begins
- 47:30Speaker 4: jumping on a trampoline for him very scantily.
- 47:35Speaker 3: Now, wasn't this a callback to the Thanksgiving trailer? Yes, okay,
- 47:42Speaker 3: this wasp.
- 47:42Speaker 4: Yeah, this was one of them. And you said possibly
- 47:45Speaker 4: a callback to cutting class the brad Pit.
- 47:48Speaker 3: Yeah, yepah So yeah, the nineteen eighty nine black comedy Slasher.
- 47:55Speaker 4: I love that movie. But that's one of my favorite
- 47:57Speaker 4: Vinegar Syndrome releases.
- 48:00Speaker 3: Yeah, this it's it's interesting. I mean, it definitely wears
- 48:05Speaker 3: some of the DNA or a little like clever nods
- 48:08Speaker 3: on its sleeve, which I think is fascinating because it's
- 48:10Speaker 3: a very I mean, by the time everything's all said done,
- 48:15Speaker 3: it's some unique choices to pull influences from.
- 48:18Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, it's like a it's deep cuts. It's like
- 48:21Speaker 4: somebody who really understands some of the lesser known, more
- 48:26Speaker 4: cult favorite genre.
- 48:28Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 48:30Speaker 4: And it's the scene when Lonnie gets his So she
- 48:35Speaker 4: Amy begins jumping on the trampoline. Lonnie is sitting on
- 48:39Speaker 4: some sort of edge watching her, and very quickly his
- 48:42Speaker 4: neck is broken and not just broken, completely spun one
- 48:45Speaker 4: eighty His head is fully spun one eighty. It's very silly,
- 48:49Speaker 4: it's very fast. I appreciate the wide shot that comes
- 48:53Speaker 4: right after of him still sitting there, but his head
- 48:55Speaker 4: is turned backwards and he's still just sitting normal. But
- 49:02Speaker 4: one of the most iconic moments of the movie is
- 49:05Speaker 4: when the knives or the knife begins stabbing through the trampoline.
- 49:09Speaker 4: Oh it's very yeah, very very.
- 49:16Speaker 3: Grossy leaves you very uneasy too.
- 49:19Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like getting stabbed in the foot and then
- 49:22Speaker 4: it's oh, it's very it's very nasty. But it's a
- 49:25Speaker 4: cool idea, you know, it's a very fun, very fun idea.
- 49:29Speaker 4: Very uh, Like, it's surprising this hasn't really been done before.
- 49:34Speaker 3: It's creative with the kills that Eli Roth used in
- 49:39Speaker 3: this film because they're very intertwined with the holiday in
- 49:42Speaker 3: a lot of ways. And there's some that we'll talk
- 49:45Speaker 3: about as we get a little bit further in the film.
- 49:47Speaker 3: But that's definitely something I gotta give them points for.
- 49:50Speaker 4: Yeah, And this became this was part of marketing the scene.
- 49:54Speaker 4: This was a big part of the trailers leading up
- 49:56Speaker 4: to the release of this. Like this kind of became
- 49:58Speaker 4: one of the standout points in the marketing for kind
- 50:03Speaker 4: of coming up to release of this film, and Eli
- 50:08Speaker 4: Roth again coming in with some of the deeper cuts,
- 50:11Speaker 4: talks about there's this there's this great scene at the
- 50:14Speaker 4: school right after this, there's this great chase scene when
- 50:19Speaker 4: there's kind of this total change in peace for the
- 50:22Speaker 4: movie kind of suddenly out of nowhere. So you have
- 50:24Speaker 4: these two death scenes and suddenly we're in the school
- 50:30Speaker 4: and we have We're with, We're with Jessica and she
- 50:39Speaker 4: is meeting up with Gabby and Ryan who are going
- 50:47Speaker 4: to the locker room so Ryan can get changed from practice,
- 50:51Speaker 4: and she's sitting in this school, which this was a
- 50:54Speaker 4: real practical This was a real location. The school's kind
- 50:57Speaker 4: of got a cool layout with like the staircase in
- 50:59Speaker 4: the center, and it gets very quiet, and there's these
- 51:02Speaker 4: really cool, nic medium shots that just kind of film
- 51:06Speaker 4: the hallway when they walk through the door. When Gabby
- 51:13Speaker 4: and Ryan walked through the door, there's this shot where
- 51:16Speaker 4: that just kind of lingers on the door closing, and
- 51:20Speaker 4: he talks about how this was all very heavily inspired
- 51:22Speaker 4: by New Witness. I don't know if you've ever seen
- 51:26Speaker 4: Mew Witness, oh yeah before, but this was very very,
- 51:30Speaker 4: very heavily inspired by from that film, because right before
- 51:35Speaker 4: they started shooting this, they saw mew Witness on thirty
- 51:38Speaker 4: five milimeter out of recent screening, and I'm guessing this
- 51:41Speaker 4: was kind of the beginning of the arrow restoration of it.
- 51:46Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, because they had a four K that came
- 51:48Speaker 3: out not too long ago.
- 51:49Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, So I'm sorry, I keep saying. I keep saying,
- 51:55Speaker 4: Gabby and Ryan, it's Evan, Gabby and Evan just want
- 51:59Speaker 4: to crrect myself. But I love these these corridor shots.
- 52:03Speaker 4: I love the quietness, the stillness of it all.
- 52:06Speaker 3: Well, it builds atmosphere, you know.
- 52:09Speaker 4: It does. And it's interesting to build that atmosphere in
- 52:11Speaker 4: a place it's typically as hustle and bustle and crazy
- 52:14Speaker 4: and busy as a school would be. But it makes
- 52:18Speaker 4: me think of moments like like my high school was huge,
- 52:21Speaker 4: and I remember being there after practice or being there,
- 52:24Speaker 4: you know, to after hours for whatever reason. And it's
- 52:28Speaker 4: very haunting when this these hallways who are that are
- 52:32Speaker 4: typically so loud, are so quiet. It gives us very
- 52:38Speaker 4: it's very off kilter feeling. It's not normal, you know,
- 52:41Speaker 4: And I remember I was thinking about that.
- 52:45Speaker 3: Yeah they did. I feel like that they did a
- 52:46Speaker 3: great job, especially because it's a place that obviously you
- 52:52Speaker 3: should you know, as a student, you should feel safe,
- 52:55Speaker 3: kind of like in a lot of ways Halloween too. Right,
- 52:58Speaker 3: you know, you're in a hospital, it should be a
- 52:59Speaker 3: safe space, and yet you know it kind of subverts
- 53:03Speaker 3: the expectations of what that facility should be like. And
- 53:08Speaker 3: you know, nobody's safe regardless if you're in the school
- 53:11Speaker 3: or not.
- 53:12Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, except Halloween too. I don't feel safe in
- 53:15Speaker 4: the hospital when there's only two employees in the whole
- 53:17Speaker 4: entire place. Everyone else has got off for Halloween. Even
- 53:23Speaker 4: the doctor's a little drunk.
- 53:26Speaker 3: This I forgot about that.
- 53:30Speaker 4: The country club. This, this is one of the first
- 53:35Speaker 4: This is when Eli Roll says they really decide to
- 53:39Speaker 4: really go into the slasher part of the movie. Now.
- 53:41Speaker 4: It's at this point, so you have these very quiet,
- 53:45Speaker 4: lonely shots around the school. It's very nice. And then
- 53:48Speaker 4: it explodes into this chase scene because John Carver's there
- 53:51Speaker 4: and he begins chasing Jessica around and it leads back
- 53:55Speaker 4: into the cosmetology room that we were in before, and
- 53:58Speaker 4: there's this really cool idea where she hides among the.
- 54:01Speaker 5: Heads of the the cosmetology mannequin heads where she kind
- 54:08Speaker 5: of hides among them, as as John Carver's destroying the room,
- 54:12Speaker 5: and it made me think of a tourist trap, just
- 54:16Speaker 5: him hiding.
- 54:16Speaker 4: Among the manics. Oh yeah, yeah, kind of made me
- 54:19Speaker 4: think of that opposite character Roles obviously. Oh man, it's
- 54:24Speaker 4: kind of cool with another deep cut, which is probably
- 54:26Speaker 4: not what they intended, but.
- 54:29Speaker 3: But to me, listen, I appreciate that.
- 54:32Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, there you go. There you some full moon
- 54:34Speaker 4: love out here.
- 54:35Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 54:37Speaker 4: She clearly survives the chase, except Evan and Gabby get abducted.
- 54:45Speaker 4: The police arrived. This is when we get a little
- 54:47Speaker 4: bit more insight into the life of Yulia, who is
- 54:50Speaker 4: one of the friends of the group, and this is
- 54:53Speaker 4: played by Jenna Warren. Her father's a very large, intimidating
- 54:58Speaker 4: Russian man who pulls up in a g wagon and
- 55:03Speaker 4: takes her home. And this goes to probably one of,
- 55:13Speaker 4: oh god, one of the most just disturbing moments of
- 55:18Speaker 4: the movie, which is, uh, well, first of all, this
- 55:21Speaker 4: great moment when Yulia hears something outside of her room.
- 55:25Speaker 4: She's getting ready because clearly I think the family's gonna
- 55:28Speaker 4: kind of flee the town.
- 55:30Speaker 3: For a little bit.
- 55:31Speaker 4: So she's packing up and getting her stuff ready, and
- 55:34Speaker 4: she hears this noise and walks out to her father
- 55:36Speaker 4: listening to music on his headphones. So innocent and the
- 55:43Speaker 4: father as well as I think somebody who works for
- 55:45Speaker 4: the family are shot by darts and knocked out, which
- 55:49Speaker 4: is a theme this movie. I'd never picked up before
- 55:51Speaker 4: that the killer is not killing anybody who wasn't involved
- 55:54Speaker 4: in the Right Mart massacre, so he didn't kill the father.
- 56:00Speaker 4: It's true, okay, which I never picked up on before.
- 56:02Speaker 4: I just assumed. I assume in a slasher movie if
- 56:05Speaker 4: you were hit with an object and then nobody's safe. Yeah,
- 56:08Speaker 4: I just assume. But this is the Thanksgiving themed. That
- 56:14Speaker 4: scene where in my note for this I thought it
- 56:18Speaker 4: was pretty funny. Yulia is sitting at the vanity and
- 56:21Speaker 4: she gets two corn like holders for corn on the cob,
- 56:29Speaker 4: the spiked pieces that go into the end so you
- 56:32Speaker 4: can hold the corn yep in her ears.
- 56:35Speaker 3: One need to Oh, okay, I have a thing when
- 56:39Speaker 3: it comes to ears, eyes, teeth, that stuff, it just
- 56:46Speaker 3: gets under my skin. I could watch somebody in slasher movies,
- 56:50Speaker 3: you know, just get dismantled. But when it comes to
- 56:52Speaker 3: that type of stuff. It just makes me so uncomfortable,
- 56:55Speaker 3: especially in the scene. And isn't there a scene rape
- 56:59Speaker 3: of that actually happens where she has a Q tip
- 57:02Speaker 3: and it's kind of foreshadowing that that's going to be
- 57:04Speaker 3: coming up.
- 57:05Speaker 4: Yeah, And I put my note actually says as a
- 57:07Speaker 4: huge Q tip ear cleaning fan the court holders in
- 57:10Speaker 4: the ears was a big pain moment for me.
- 57:15Speaker 3: Your worst fear come to life.
- 57:17Speaker 4: It's terrible. It's terrible. Well, because they they believe they
- 57:23Speaker 4: want to check in on her, they believe they might
- 57:25Speaker 4: she might be in danger. Scuba Scuba and Jessica show
- 57:31Speaker 4: up to the house. They find the father passed out
- 57:36Speaker 4: up front and we have the first confrontation with them
- 57:40Speaker 4: and John Carver. So John Carver has Yulia and they're
- 57:44Speaker 4: they're getting construction done on the house. So there's just
- 57:48Speaker 4: an open saw, like a table saw. It's so gross,
- 57:54Speaker 4: man and he just throws Yulia down on this table
- 57:59Speaker 4: saw and it's so bloody.
- 58:02Speaker 3: Dude, is she can't like catch her balance. It's just
- 58:06Speaker 3: basically you're a victim of the buzz saw.
- 58:11Speaker 4: She gets thrown down on it, blood everywhere. The grossest
- 58:14Speaker 4: scene for me is actually when Scuba picks her up
- 58:17Speaker 4: off of it, and it's just like her body is
- 58:19Speaker 4: just ravaged. But I think this is why I I
- 58:25Speaker 4: moments like this are why I love this movie. Because
- 58:28Speaker 4: there's this great wide shot of like where you can
- 58:33Speaker 4: see the table saw in the foreground, it's covered in blood.
- 58:36Speaker 4: You have Scuba on the ground with her body, and
- 58:39Speaker 4: then Jessica's in the in the background and Scuba just says,
- 58:44Speaker 4: what do I do? Hm, very calm, and it's like
- 58:49Speaker 4: the haunting little touch because John Carver gets away. It's
- 58:54Speaker 4: such an authentic, I feel like reaction, like what do
- 58:57Speaker 4: you know?
- 58:58Speaker 3: Oh, it's you're like in shock.
- 58:59Speaker 4: Yeah, this is something that's so missed a lot of times.
- 59:03Speaker 4: I think you just go overboard. They always they always
- 59:06Speaker 4: take the reaction next level. And this is such a
- 59:09Speaker 4: that the line delivery coming from the chaos to me,
- 59:16Speaker 4: always made this one of the more impactful moments of
- 59:18Speaker 4: the film. Just a very calm what do I do?
- 59:22Speaker 4: As he holds his friend who's done there's no chance
- 59:26Speaker 4: for Yeah, it's a very to me, it's a it's
- 59:30Speaker 4: a standout scene for me.
- 59:31Speaker 3: In the movie, that whole sequence. I mean, there's definitely
- 59:36Speaker 3: a lot that happens. But yeah, I mean that that
- 59:40Speaker 3: whole I would say that whole kill scene with her
- 59:45Speaker 3: on the buzz saw and then him basically just like
- 59:49Speaker 3: in Shock, after that point. I mean, it's it's pretty impactful.
- 59:53Speaker 1: It is.
- 59:53Speaker 3: It is.
- 59:53Speaker 4: Yeah, And this is when we get into things like
- 59:57Speaker 4: the Turkey mascot death, which is great at the parade, yeah,
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: which is straight from the original trailer, which for some reason,
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: there's a really creepy clown running around the parade and
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: then he decides to take an axe and just lop
- 1:00:16Speaker 4: off the head of this poor Turkey mascot in front
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: of everybody.
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: I was a little confused by that. But was it
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: just meme or did that parade sequence remind you a
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: lot of I know what she did last summer?
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah it does. And it's the first it's the
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: first of the kills that's so public.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: Oh yeah, But it doesn't feel.
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: It doesn't really have much tie in with with a
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: lot else in the movie. It almost feels like a
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: random scene.
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: I wonder if it's because they had that content in
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: that original fake trailer, if they felt obligated, like Eli
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: Roth felt obligated to include that in with the film itself.
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: It's I'm not saying it's a bad scene, and you know,
- 1:01:08Speaker 4: I hope there wasn't something that I missed that kind
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: of ties it all together, but it just it's it's
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: almost like, I kind of true. I kind of saw
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: it as like the it's kind of the killer saying,
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: you know, like, hey, like this is the end. You know,
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: this is the end of the holiday. It's the beheading
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: of the turkey. You know, this is like it's dead.
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: But it's such a great scene visually to watch. It's
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: such a fun idea and it's really well done and
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: it's gross and it's shocking. But then it just doesn't
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: really hold up like much to the impact of the story,
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: you know what I mean?
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: No, I agree, I mean it definitely feels very festive.
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: I get what they were trying to do with it,
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: but I think a lot of the the other kill
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: scenes are a little bit more effective with what they're
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: going for.
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, this, well, talk about the next death scene.
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: We have Kathleen played by Karen Cliche. I think her
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: last name is likely Cliche. I think it's how you
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: say it. And this is the prepping of the turkey scene.
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: Okay, is this worse or is the the the corn
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: holder through the ear worse?
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: This is pretty bad. I mean, this is really kind
- 1:02:37Speaker 4: of the sickest part of the movie. I think you
- 1:02:43Speaker 4: have to have these things, like you're gonna do with
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: things giveing a movie. You have to have the dinner
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: scene from Hell, as Little eli Roth calls it at
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: the end of the movie. You have to have that.
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: You have to have moments like this where somebody is
- 1:02:59Speaker 4: being prepped, like a turkey who's going to be cooked
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: and served and portioned, you know. And they actually went
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: as far as to have a real sue chef prepare
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: Kathleen as the turkey. So there's these close up shots
- 1:03:17Speaker 4: of him, John Carver spreading the what's that called, like
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: the butter or whatever it is, with the brush on
- 1:03:30Speaker 4: her and the salt and all. You know, he talked
- 1:03:34Speaker 4: abou all these little details of like this is how
- 1:03:35Speaker 4: they would actually prep a turkey, as a professional chef would,
- 1:03:40Speaker 4: as far as they get a sue chef to do this.
- 1:03:44Speaker 4: And it's to me the psychological horror of she's alive,
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: you know what I mean, Like she's opening her eyes
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: in scenes and she's watching herself being prepped as a turkey.
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: I don't think she understands yet, but she's watching it happen,
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: and this is really this is again, it's just one
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: of those movements that's really cool that when when John
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: Carver walks over to the oven and he takes his
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: mask off and he places it on the oven. Yep.
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: And because it's on the oven, it burns the mask.
- 1:04:15Speaker 4: It kind of melts half the mask and it looks
- 1:04:18Speaker 4: so fucking cool, dude, Yes, Like it just takes this
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: already cool mask to a whole other level, Like this
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: is this is the coolest version of the John Carver mask,
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: the half melted.
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: All his final form, well, he switches it out.
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: He only wears it during this during this escape scene.
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: It reminded me a little bit of Michael Myers mask
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: and Halloween Kills.
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: Yeah it does. Yeah, yeah, that's I was like, I
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: was actually just thinking of another example, and you nailed it.
- 1:04:50Speaker 4: That's that's exactly what I was thinking.
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: A personal favorite of yours.
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: Oh dude, I love the burn mask. Yeah, it looks great.
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: It's just the degrading nature of it. As you get
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: into hollow again and there's like some dirt on it,
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: you know, yeah, a little musty becomes like closest to
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: Rob Zombies Halloween tosk. This is one of my favorite
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: scenes of the movie though, because this is Kathleen's escape
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: scene and this is where we're in the Killer's Layer.
- 1:05:18Speaker 4: This is the first time we're kind of seeing base
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: of operations. We're kind of uncovering more information, very loose information,
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: but more information about how John Carver is working, what
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: he's doing, and there's a lot of stuff here where
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: you know, she comes across Lonnie's body again, which Lannie's
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: body is underneath one of the tables that she hides under.
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: And this whole scene was this whole chase scene that
- 1:05:49Speaker 4: occurs in it. It's not even really a chase scene,
- 1:05:51Speaker 4: it's a cat and mouse scene. Was actually very much
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: done on the fly because they Eli and Jeff talked
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: about how they showed up to this location and pretty
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: much mapped this all out within four hours. It wasn't
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: really prepped to the level that it might have seen
- 1:06:10Speaker 4: and they showed up they had about four hours. They
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: ran through the whole scene, especially when she goes upstairs
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: and we see the radio scanners and the voice changer
- 1:06:18Speaker 4: and we see all this stuff. They had about four
- 1:06:21Speaker 4: hours to map this all out, and they did a
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: fantastic job.
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: That's what I was gonna say, because you mentioned this
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: and that they obviously had a very short production schedule
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: and it's low budget, but the film itself doesn't ever
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: feel like that at all. I think that that's like
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: the crazy part about it is that it feels like
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: what they were given they were able to stretch, probably
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: to the furthest degree. Yeah, because it feels like overall,
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: I mean, it's a very effective slasher.
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: It is. It is, and it's really not until this
- 1:06:56Speaker 4: commentary when I realized kind of how rushed some of
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: these scenes were. You know, when you're watching the movie
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: without knowing any of that, it all flows just as
- 1:07:06Speaker 4: you just as it should. It's kind of that movie
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: magic thing. Oh absolutely, now that you kind of get in,
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: you know, Eli and Jeff don't go as in depth
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: as I would have as I would have liked them
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: to on this movie. Their their commentary here is very
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: surface level, very much a lot about the cast. So
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: excuse me, a movie here, yawning on a podcast.
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: Gotta gets you to some pumpkin pie get that second wind.
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: And yeah, it's a full belly, but it's amazing what
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: they were able to accomplish. And they kind of spend
- 1:07:42Speaker 4: a lot of time pointing out where you can see
- 1:07:44Speaker 4: the corners being cut to to make sure that things
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: were getting done, not even corners being cut, but where
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: they were rushing things. And they talk a lot about
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: kind of the oh this was this was done on
- 1:07:56Speaker 4: the fly. We had, you know, just thought of this
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: when we were there and we did it. You wouldn't
- 1:08:00Speaker 4: know any of that without knowing those scenes were rushed
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: like that. You know, this escape scene is great. The
- 1:08:08Speaker 4: she gets captured and there's this really nasty moment where
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: she's in the oven and oh dude, it's so so gross.
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: Imagine it's like this, and it's what's his name's death
- 1:08:23Speaker 4: scene and Saul too. What was his name? It ibbs?
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: I forget his name.
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: I'm terrible with names. I'm not even gonna he.
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: Gets burned in the oven and Saul too.
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: Oh yes, yep. I think that this is where eli
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: Roth really excels, because he's so effective at taking these
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: unusual death scenes and just making you so uncomfortable. They're
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: very unsettling. And one thing I just wanted to highlight,
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: especially in these moments you're talking about, is the score
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: from Brandon Roberts.
- 1:09:05Speaker 4: Oh yeah, just is so.
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: It like elevates the movie that much more to get you, like,
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: you know, really kind of getting into the overall experience
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: with this film. But I just kind of wanted to
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: highlight that just because I thought it was it was
- 1:09:20Speaker 3: great for this movie.
- 1:09:21Speaker 4: The score is great. It's really really good. I've been
- 1:09:25Speaker 4: so tempted to get that vinyl release from Waxwork. I
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: wish there was a CD release of it, because I
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: did listen to this shortly. I think I found this
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: on Spotify, like shortly after the vinyl was released, because
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: I was at the time I was going to buy
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: the vinyl and I was like, well, let me listen
- 1:09:44Speaker 4: to it on its own. And it does exactly what
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: a good score needs to do. Is it never stands
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: out in the movie, so it always fits perfectly in
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: where you don't even you don't separate it from the visual,
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: which is what you wanted to do. But then when
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: you listen to it on its own, it's it's a
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: very well constructed score, very very.
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: Well it's an excellent soundtrack, even better looking vinyl ylick.
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: Yeah it's really yeah, yeah, man, would you eat a
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: human turkey? No?
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: All right, nope, nope, nope, I'm I'm so good after
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: I've seen what's involved in it, and no, thank you.
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: Yeah, this is Kathleen's death scene is really gross and
- 1:10:33Speaker 4: Eli Roth gives some good notes on kind of the
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: design of the oven and they really wanted.
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: It to be gross and just really it just feels grimy.
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: It does, yeah, it does. I mean it's somebody cooking
- 1:10:45Speaker 4: a human you know what I mean, like like you
- 1:10:46Speaker 4: would a turkey. And there's the gross edition of the
- 1:10:49Speaker 4: thermometer being stabbed in the arm and right at the
- 1:10:54Speaker 4: end it pops. You know.
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: It's really again another very clever moment with the dark
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: the dark humor.
- 1:11:01Speaker 4: Yeah, it's very very very cheesy, very cheesy. And this
- 1:11:06Speaker 4: kind of is when everything culminates into the final moment,
- 1:11:12Speaker 4: and eli Roth talks a lot about the diner scene
- 1:11:17Speaker 4: or the dinner scene, because at this point all of
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: our main characters are caught. They all have a seat
- 1:11:22Speaker 4: at the table, and he talks a lot about the
- 1:11:26Speaker 4: incredible makeup effects of Tim Dillon's head which is at
- 1:11:30Speaker 4: the table. You have Kathleen in the center of the table,
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: and this is kind of the big John Carver moment.
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: This is his time and it's all being live streamed,
- 1:11:44Speaker 4: which is even crazier. He's got multiple cameras set up
- 1:11:47Speaker 4: around this table. All of our main characters are captured
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: and caught. They all have a seat at the table,
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: and there's this great scene where the police think they
- 1:11:59Speaker 4: now location, but the location is actually just a screen
- 1:12:04Speaker 4: being recorded with a phone that throw very soft to
- 1:12:07Speaker 4: again with that misdirect, and this is one of my
- 1:12:12Speaker 4: favorite deaths in the movie because ever who is at
- 1:12:18Speaker 4: the table gets the camera put in front of him
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: and gets his head smashed in by a meat tenderizer.
- 1:12:26Speaker 4: It's so gross, Like any complaints that I have about
- 1:12:29Speaker 4: c GI blood are instantly banished, and I'm right back
- 1:12:34Speaker 4: to respecting Eli roth re using practical effects because of
- 1:12:37Speaker 4: this scene alone.
- 1:12:39Speaker 3: There's like brain matter that's going all over the place,
- 1:12:41Speaker 3: like it looks like skull fragments.
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: I'm like, it's so gross, man, it's really And there's
- 1:12:47Speaker 4: a great shot where you can see the dummy head
- 1:12:50Speaker 4: as it gets smashed with the hammer. It's really or
- 1:12:53Speaker 4: the meat tenderiser. Yeah, it's really really gross, really really nasty.
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: Everyone's just hysterical by this point. There's vomit, blood everywhere,
- 1:13:05Speaker 3: brain matter.
- 1:13:07Speaker 4: Reminds me of like Rick throwing up with the gag
- 1:13:09Speaker 4: and reminds me of.
- 1:13:10Speaker 3: A hostile Oh, yep, yep, yep very much.
- 1:13:13Speaker 4: Right away, I was like, I felt like I was
- 1:13:14Speaker 4: watching Hostile again. Yeah, it's it's very, very gross. And
- 1:13:20Speaker 4: they they manage an escape and there's a fight scene
- 1:13:25Speaker 4: that goes on between Scuba and John Carver.
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: Are you gonna forget about how he tries to serve
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: up well what feels like should be the equivalent of wine.
- 1:13:36Speaker 4: I'm just trying to. I was just trying to. I
- 1:13:39Speaker 4: was trying to avoid it. Even actually says in the case,
- 1:13:43Speaker 4: He's like, I don't think this would work this way,
- 1:13:45Speaker 4: but he puts Yeah, he takes the cork screw and
- 1:13:47Speaker 4: puts it in the cheerleader's neck and when he removes it,
- 1:13:50Speaker 4: the blood squirts down and he fills the wine glass
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: with it to serve.
- 1:13:56Speaker 3: Again. He definitely leans one, one hundred percent into the
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: spirit of this holiday in all aspects.
- 1:14:06Speaker 4: Then he carves a slice off of her legs Kathleen's
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: leg and pretty much goes to serve it to Rick
- 1:14:13Speaker 4: before I can't feed them before the fight happens. But
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: it's really it's really nasty man. And shout out to
- 1:14:24Speaker 4: the makeup effects the practical effects here and these are
- 1:14:27Speaker 4: all fantastic. It all looks incredible, especially the I even
- 1:14:32Speaker 4: I asked my wife, I was like, is this what like?
- 1:14:34Speaker 4: What is that that they put on the turkey? And
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: does that create a different texture when it's based and
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: cooked versus if it was just cooked, you know, and
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: dried out. I guess in the skin because the skin
- 1:14:44Speaker 4: on Kathleen's character looks like a turkey, does it has
- 1:14:48Speaker 4: like an interesting texture to it that I noticed? So
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: I kind of got me asking these really gross questions
- 1:14:54Speaker 4: about what happens if you put different things on when
- 1:14:56Speaker 4: you burn a body.
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: I don't know, A nice turkey, Brian, a.
- 1:15:00Speaker 4: Nice turkey, Brin. So you know, there's not a whole
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: lot of great production notes. Are great behind the scene
- 1:15:08Speaker 4: notes that were given up during this commentary, But let's
- 1:15:11Speaker 4: talk about the spoiler alert at this foreign. Let's talk
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: about the reveal of Patrick Dempsey as the killer. Did
- 1:15:27Speaker 4: you really suspect anybody else.
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: No, yeah, no, But here's the thing, I felt like
- 1:15:36Speaker 3: they did enough if you go back and watch it,
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: they do enough with the Red Herrings where it worked
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: enough for me to see what they were at least
- 1:15:46Speaker 3: trying to go for. But I think for the most part,
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: if you've seen a number of these movies before in
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: the past, like usually you're able to kind of figure
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: out who the killer was going to be, and I
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: felt like, kind of from the get go that it
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: was most likely to be Helm.
- 1:16:01Speaker 4: Yeah, they do a good job at leaving just enough
- 1:16:04Speaker 4: characters alive from the So there's a handful of characters
- 1:16:09Speaker 4: who did not die during the massacre at the beginning,
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: but were affected by the death of somebody in it.
- 1:16:15Speaker 4: So there was enough characters established that could have had
- 1:16:18Speaker 4: motive to do it. There's some smart stuff played out here,
- 1:16:24Speaker 4: very very in the Reign of like Kevin Williamson where oh,
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: for sure, you know, she Jessica escapes the John Carver's
- 1:16:32Speaker 4: house and she's chased through the woods and when she
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: gets to the other side of the fence, she finds
- 1:16:38Speaker 4: Patrick Deumpsy's character knocked out on the ground with a
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: big wound on the side of his head, so very smart,
- 1:16:44Speaker 4: very smart, kind of throw you off the trail manipulation
- 1:16:49Speaker 4: with with with some of the characters here, and she
- 1:16:53Speaker 4: actually sees so she she approaches and sees him on
- 1:17:00Speaker 4: the ground, and then she walks over to the building
- 1:17:05Speaker 4: which is this giant almost like warehouse, and she actually
- 1:17:11Speaker 4: sees Bobby with the mask on. So she sees somebody
- 1:17:16Speaker 4: with the John Carver mask on, and it turns out
- 1:17:19Speaker 4: it's Bobby, her ex boyfriend and with the mask on.
- 1:17:25Speaker 4: But then Patrick Dempsey's character wakes up, runs in you know,
- 1:17:30Speaker 4: you know, not to trust what's happening because he shoots
- 1:17:32Speaker 4: at him and it's all off camera, and finally they
- 1:17:38Speaker 4: end up in a room together and she picks up
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: on She becomes suspicious and realizes it's him because of
- 1:17:47Speaker 4: the the thing from the flower, the type of grass
- 1:17:52Speaker 4: they run through that's stuck on his shoe, and that's
- 1:17:57Speaker 4: how she puts together that that's who is chasing her
- 1:17:59Speaker 4: through the woods after the John Carver house, and that's
- 1:18:03Speaker 4: how she nails down that's Patrick Dempsey. And it's at
- 1:18:06Speaker 4: this moment in the commentary when Eli Roth it just
- 1:18:09Speaker 4: became way too much for me because they go on
- 1:18:13Speaker 4: and on and on and on and on about Patrick
- 1:18:16Speaker 4: Dempsey's face and about what he does as a character
- 1:18:19Speaker 4: and what he does as an actor, and I get
- 1:18:22Speaker 4: he's never done a role like this before. But his
- 1:18:26Speaker 4: performance is good. It's not what they were talking about.
- 1:18:31Speaker 4: They were acting like this was like some performance from
- 1:18:35Speaker 4: The Hard Gods Lifetime. Yeah, and it's good. Like Patrick
- 1:18:39Speaker 4: Dempsey's great in this room, especially when she gets the
- 1:18:45Speaker 4: one up on him and he gets to go full
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: psychopath because now his identity is out and he's the
- 1:18:52Speaker 4: killer and he gets go full crazy and he runs
- 1:18:55Speaker 4: out of the room with an axe and yells there
- 1:18:56Speaker 4: will be no leftovers. That's the you know, the.
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: I'm gonna scream that at our Thanksgiving dinner. Yeah, They're like,
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: what is he on?
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: He just goes full psycho and you have the giant
- 1:19:12Speaker 4: turkey balloon being filmed or filled with hydrogen that blows up.
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: And the end of this movie feels very pieced together
- 1:19:23Speaker 4: to make a sequel work. Unfortunately, it's just kind of like,
- 1:19:28Speaker 4: you don't see what happens to him. It does. These
- 1:19:32Speaker 4: these just close up shots on some of the firefighters
- 1:19:34Speaker 4: walking out with masks on. It's very.
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: It reminded me of my bloody Valentine and Adam wing Guards.
- 1:19:47Speaker 4: The guests it is, yeah, the guests, Yeah, with all
- 1:19:51Speaker 4: the firefighters coming out of the problem.
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: The problem the school just just a clever way to
- 1:19:56Speaker 3: leave it open ended. We don't know what's gonna you know,
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: potentially happen. May or may not be a sequel. I hope,
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: I mean, and I know you and I were talking
- 1:20:07Speaker 3: about the plans that eli Roth has for a sequel,
- 1:20:11Speaker 3: but I would I would love to see one follow
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: up to this and you know, take it to that
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: next level with what you could do, you know, with
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: a I feel like you could get pretty creative with
- 1:20:22Speaker 3: a sequel.
- 1:20:23Speaker 4: Yeah, well, how do you I know that he potentially
- 1:20:27Speaker 4: gets away, and how do you one up it from here?
- 1:20:31Speaker 4: I mean he's not He's going to set up another dinner,
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: Like is it like another Thanksgiving? I guess. So it's
- 1:20:39Speaker 4: gonna be like maybe it's like human centipede, where like
- 1:20:42Speaker 4: somebody watching no no, no, hear me out, somebody watching the
- 1:20:46Speaker 4: live stream gets the idea to do this, So then
- 1:20:48Speaker 4: they do it. But instead of having five teenagers at
- 1:20:51Speaker 4: the table, they have ten. They double it and they
- 1:20:54Speaker 4: have two human turkeys.
- 1:20:56Speaker 3: Nothing ever good comes out of bring up the human centipede.
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: So when you lead with that, I have to to
- 1:21:03Speaker 3: take a step back.
- 1:21:04Speaker 4: Inspiration, they took inspiration. Yeah, it's it's a lot of fun.
- 1:21:09Speaker 4: I even I even don't hate the end jump scene.
- 1:21:16Speaker 4: You know, whild is Jessica wake up of bed going
- 1:21:18Speaker 4: to the closet?
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: No, you know? And where have we seen that before?
- 1:21:25Speaker 4: That's every well, okay, is it better or worse than
- 1:21:30Speaker 4: the Nightmare and Elm Street dummy being pulled through the window.
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: Come on, man, nothing tops that. That's iconic in its
- 1:21:39Speaker 3: own right. But it was like a very clever nod to.
- 1:21:43Speaker 3: I mean, we've seen it before with Friday the Thirteenth
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: Nightmare on Elm Street. So again it's this is just
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: a fun throwback slasher. It's perfect for this time of year,
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: and you know, our options are limited, but I'm fully
- 1:22:04Speaker 3: embracing this holiday classic.
- 1:22:07Speaker 4: Well, blood Rage is I think the definitive for the quintessential.
- 1:22:13Speaker 4: That's not cranberry sauce. As a stated in blood.
- 1:22:17Speaker 3: Rate, I always carve out some time to just watch
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: I have to watch blood Range.
- 1:22:22Speaker 4: So good, dude, it's blood rage is I wish I
- 1:22:26Speaker 4: had that Blu Ray so bad. I love that movie.
- 1:22:29Speaker 4: I love that movie. And there will be leftovers is
- 1:22:33Speaker 4: nothing compared to That's not Cranberry sauce.
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: There will be no leftovers.
- 1:22:38Speaker 4: There will be no leftover or whatever. He says something
- 1:22:41Speaker 4: about leftovers, which there's always leftovers.
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: I love leftovers.
- 1:22:45Speaker 4: Patrick Dempsey, Yeah, it's Thanksgiving is fun. I mean, very much,
- 1:22:51Speaker 4: like I said, this is kind of a great entry
- 1:22:54Speaker 4: level commentary track. It doesn't go too deep into anything.
- 1:22:58Speaker 4: It talks a lot about the casting process, it talks
- 1:23:04Speaker 4: a lot about the performances. There's a lot of time
- 1:23:09Speaker 4: spent on just how the crew got along so well
- 1:23:12Speaker 4: in the cast and Addison Ray being this you know,
- 1:23:16Speaker 4: TikTok celebrity and was buying people dinner and hosting parties
- 1:23:20Speaker 4: and really kind of building the camaraderie between the friend group.
- 1:23:24Speaker 4: And I wish there was more depth to the conversation
- 1:23:29Speaker 4: because Eli Roth is somebody who I respects so much
- 1:23:33Speaker 4: and I love hearing that guy just talk about horror.
- 1:23:37Speaker 4: I was pretty shocked at how little he went into
- 1:23:40Speaker 4: with a lot of scenes and more, how he just
- 1:23:44Speaker 4: kind of covered the surface level stuff. But you know,
- 1:23:48Speaker 4: not a bad commentary. There's definitely been worse.
- 1:23:52Speaker 3: No, I mean, I think overall, we we got everything
- 1:23:59Speaker 3: in that we want to about this. Uh, this holiday jum.
- 1:24:02Speaker 4: Still better than Mary Mary Lambert's commentary for Preesemetery too.
- 1:24:09Speaker 3: It can only go up from there, right.
- 1:24:11Speaker 4: He summed up by like, yeah, I don't really remember
- 1:24:13Speaker 4: what that was like, but that was that was.
- 1:24:16Speaker 3: Chris is blacked out.
- 1:24:19Speaker 4: Yeah, man, Thanksgiving is fun. I I you know, I
- 1:24:22Speaker 4: I can. I don't have no problem with this becoming
- 1:24:24Speaker 4: a franchise or anything like that. You know, I hope
- 1:24:26Speaker 4: you go. I want to see eli Roth do do more.
- 1:24:31Speaker 4: And I think that he really excels in that mid
- 1:24:34Speaker 4: range budget and it's I get the use of CGI
- 1:24:43Speaker 4: blood in some moments, and I get you know, the
- 1:24:45Speaker 4: where the practical stuff is. It works really really well.
- 1:24:48Speaker 4: So I can forgive the faults of the computer generated
- 1:24:53Speaker 4: stuff because what is real has done exceptionally. And I'm
- 1:24:58Speaker 4: just curious to see what a sequel brings. Man, I'm
- 1:25:00Speaker 4: excited to see kind of where this franchise goes.
- 1:25:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think as long as Eli Roth
- 1:25:09Speaker 3: leans into you know, maybe like holiday traditions from Thanksgiving
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: or you know, certain elements that that we all know
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: and love from the specific holiday. I think you can.
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: You could definitely justify having a sequel, you know, just
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: as as long as the story is there and you
- 1:25:28Speaker 3: know it makes sense. I mean, I'm all for it.
- 1:25:30Speaker 3: I'm here for it.
- 1:25:31Speaker 4: Yeah man. Yeah, look, dude, it's almost time. This is
- 1:25:34Speaker 4: going live the day before Thanksgiving.
- 1:25:40Speaker 3: Get everyone in the holiday spirit.
- 1:25:41Speaker 4: Hey man, this is this is it, dude. This is
- 1:25:44Speaker 4: one of my favorite holidays, believe it or not, outside
- 1:25:49Speaker 4: of outside of Halloween, okay, just because it's simple. Yeah,
- 1:25:55Speaker 4: it's like food and family and football, giving thanks and
- 1:25:58Speaker 4: football and you know, all that good stuff. It's very
- 1:26:02Speaker 4: very simple, very enjoyable off work, you know.
- 1:26:06Speaker 3: Yeah, at least the day that's also true, the day.
- 1:26:08Speaker 4: Before the chaos of Black Friday as always is. But yeah, we're.
- 1:26:14Speaker 3: After after seeing this movie, I will not be going
- 1:26:16Speaker 3: Black Friday shopping.
- 1:26:18Speaker 4: No, you just go on Amazon much.
- 1:26:21Speaker 3: It's a lot safer, believe it or not.
- 1:26:24Speaker 4: Man, this is our second to last episode of season two.
- 1:26:28Speaker 4: Season two of Beyond the Blood is coming to a close.
- 1:26:31Speaker 4: Not right now, we got one more.
- 1:26:34Speaker 3: I feel like we've got a perfect way to cap
- 1:26:36Speaker 3: it off, especially once it starts getting a little bit
- 1:26:38Speaker 3: colder out.
- 1:26:39Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, So for those this this idea of doing
- 1:26:42Speaker 4: Thanksgiving was very much just to kind of capture the
- 1:26:45Speaker 4: holiday era. But next month we have a really fun
- 1:26:49Speaker 4: one to close out not only season two of the show,
- 1:26:52Speaker 4: but year one of Beyond the Blood, which is out
- 1:26:56Speaker 4: of control to think about. Next month, we're going to
- 1:27:00Speaker 4: be covering, uh, Misery, the Rob Reiner film.
- 1:27:05Speaker 3: I'm super pumped for that, very.
- 1:27:07Speaker 4: Very excited for that one. Definitely gonna be a much
- 1:27:10Speaker 4: more in depth conversation than this one here I liked.
- 1:27:15Speaker 4: I like having movies like this though, to cover where
- 1:27:19Speaker 4: we're not as you know, up to our next in
- 1:27:21Speaker 4: research and really diving into themes or you know, it's
- 1:27:28Speaker 4: it's much easier to every now and then have a
- 1:27:31Speaker 4: movie like Thanksgiving where it's just like, let's just talk
- 1:27:33Speaker 4: about the movie. You know, we're able to kind of
- 1:27:36Speaker 4: just go kill by kill and just kind of talk
- 1:27:38Speaker 4: about how how cool it is or how fun it is.
- 1:27:42Speaker 4: We're gonna have josh On from Beyond the Grave Media.
- 1:27:48Speaker 4: He's going to be on the episode. I've already started.
- 1:27:53Speaker 4: You listened through the audiobook of Misery and already have
- 1:27:56Speaker 4: like almost a full page of notes that I don't
- 1:27:57Speaker 4: I don't even think I finished chapter one yet.
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: Listen, you've got time, trust me.
- 1:28:04Speaker 4: We'll see how that goes. We'll see how far I
- 1:28:07Speaker 4: get before we before. But you know, from us to you, guys,
- 1:28:13Speaker 4: please to have a happy Thanksgiving. We hope that you
- 1:28:17Speaker 4: were safe, your travels are safe wherever you're going. We
- 1:28:21Speaker 4: hope that you spend time, lovely time with your family.
- 1:28:24Speaker 4: Give thanks. We're very thankful for you as listeners and
- 1:28:28Speaker 4: everybody who's helped us out or listen. Even if you've
- 1:28:30Speaker 4: only listened to one episode, you know, we're very thankful
- 1:28:34Speaker 4: for everybody. And you know, I hope everybody has a
- 1:28:36Speaker 4: very good Thanksgiving.
- 1:28:38Speaker 3: Absolutely happy Thanksgiving. Everyone, enjoy that turkey.
- 1:28:42Speaker 4: Don't eat too much, you know, eat your corn on
- 1:28:46Speaker 4: a cop like a normal person, or just eat regular
- 1:28:49Speaker 4: corn off the cop. It's safer. You don't got to
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: worry about being stabbed in the ears by the corn holders.
- 1:28:55Speaker 4: What are those things called? Is there a name for.
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: Those They're actually called corn holders?
- 1:28:59Speaker 4: Great?
- 1:29:01Speaker 3: Yeah, so we weren't far off. I swear I thought
- 1:29:04Speaker 3: we were like not identifying these correctly. But that's what
- 1:29:09Speaker 3: they're called corn holders. Yeah, that's it.
- 1:29:12Speaker 4: Great, awesome, well Steve, as always, was a pleasure. Thank
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: you everyone for listening. Have a beautiful Thanksgiving. We'll see you.
