- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Louie Terminello.
- 0:08Speaker 3: Firstly, I got so consumed in Chicago, I didn't even
- 0:12Speaker 3: get a chance to record with you live from the
- 0:14Speaker 3: Windy City. But as you could tell, it was quite
- 0:16Speaker 3: a week, quite a day, I should say, in Chicago. And,
- 0:19Speaker 3: you know, saw some familiar faces. Soriano and Anthony Rizzo making.
- 0:23Speaker 2: The Cubs 150 team. But I can tell you this, Louie,
- 0:26Speaker 2: and I love.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Jeremiah, I think that's his name, Pep Rocky, the guy
- 0:30Speaker 3: who does the announcing for the Cubs.
- 0:33Speaker 1: But he was.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Scripted to say on the video board before, and you'll
- 0:36Speaker 3: get a kick out of this. And welcome to the show,
- 0:38Speaker 3: by the way, once again for Terminal.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Thank you, Alex. Good to be back.
- 0:42Speaker 3: He said, and here are the ones that could not
- 0:44Speaker 3: be with us today. And half of them, of course,
- 0:46Speaker 3: are dead. And I thought that was the funniest thing
- 0:49Speaker 3: I heard. Like Ernie Banks is not going to be
- 0:52Speaker 3: there today because he passed.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Away many years ago.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Or, well, the one that I always know about is
- 0:57Speaker 3: Ron Santo because he had a really quite a story.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I mean, he got his legs.
- 1:04Speaker 1: He was a diabetic and he lost his legs.
- 1:08Speaker 3: I think he broadcasts even with the wheelchair. He was
- 1:10Speaker 3: there broadcasting for a long time.
- 1:12Speaker 1: He did. And, of course, Ron Sandberg.
- 1:19Speaker 3: That was sad too Because he had cancer And it
- 1:21Speaker 3: was just That was sad Because We went up to
- 1:24Speaker 3: his induction ceremony In 2005 Uh And sat in the
- 1:28Speaker 3: front Of the ceremony Which was great Just to see
- 1:30Speaker 3: all that And um My dad really loved Brian Sandberg
- 1:34Speaker 3: That's why I got his jersey And his Hall of
- 1:36Speaker 3: Fame number Shirt So there you go But no It
- 1:39Speaker 3: was a fun time And uh.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Well you saw a great game As far as uh
- 1:44Speaker 1: I mean it wasn't a close game But you saw
- 1:46Speaker 1: a great game You saw uh Pete Crow Armstrong hit
- 1:49Speaker 1: those three blasts, and he had a chance for the
- 1:52Speaker 1: fourth against a position player, and he popped up. But
- 1:56Speaker 1: what a great player.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Jose Trevino, Yankee legend, was the guy to get PCA
- 2:01Speaker 3: out on Saturday.
- 2:04Speaker 2: But, no, it was a great game.
- 2:06Speaker 3: And, you know, when he hit that third homer, I
- 2:07Speaker 3: think everybody just knew off the bat, and I think
- 2:09Speaker 3: that cemented his MVP season right there. I mean, if
- 2:12Speaker 3: that doesn't give him the MVP, I don't know what
- 2:13Speaker 3: will at this point.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Alex, unless these last three and a half weeks of
- 2:18Speaker 1: the season, he totally goes into a major, major offensive slump.
- 2:23Speaker 1: To me, he's got to be the MVP. I know
- 2:26Speaker 1: for some reason, a lot of these media types are
- 2:29Speaker 1: still pushing Otani. And we're not going to knock the
- 2:35Speaker 1: greatness of Otani. But this year, he's not the MVP.
- 2:38Speaker 1: He's not. He's had a nice year. And I know
- 2:43Speaker 1: he's pitched 86, 87 innings, and he pitched 86, 87
- 2:47Speaker 1: terrific innings, but he's not the MVP. The Dodgers were
- 2:50Speaker 1: way ahead all year. It's Pete Carl Armstrong. I would
- 2:55Speaker 1: vote Pete Carl Armstrong first, and I probably might vote
- 2:58Speaker 1: Matt Olsen second.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely Olsen.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Well, here's the thing that I'm really concerned about with
- 3:04Speaker 3: the Cubs, though, because I saw it firsthand, okay?
- 3:06Speaker 2: The first game of that series.
- 3:08Speaker 3: They should have beat the Reds, but they gave up
- 3:10Speaker 3: a few more runs.
- 3:11Speaker 2: You know, they gave up a lot of runs, and they.
- 3:13Speaker 1: And they were ahead in that first game.
- 3:14Speaker 2: They were ahead. Third game, they just... They lost it.
- 3:19Speaker 3: They're four and a half up in the second wild card, but, like,
- 3:22Speaker 3: they don't look like a strong four and a half
- 3:24Speaker 3: game team, you know, up. They look like they're struggling.
- 3:28Speaker 3: They just lost the series to the Brewers, and I
- 3:29Speaker 3: know Miz, I guess, struggled.
- 3:31Speaker 2: A bit yesterday. I didn't really watch the whole thing.
- 3:34Speaker 1: He did. But, like....
- 3:37Speaker 3: You know, he's having an incredible year, but it's not
- 3:39Speaker 3: just him. You have to have the pitching staff. And
- 3:42Speaker 3: someone I met up in Chicago said that same thing.
- 3:43Speaker 2: You've got to have a pitching staff.
- 3:45Speaker 3: And right now, I wouldn't say they're barely hanging on
- 3:49Speaker 3: to a four-and-a-half game lead, but it feels like it
- 3:51Speaker 3: because they just lost back-to-back series right now.
- 3:53Speaker 2: So they've got to reverse course with that.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Yeah, losing a series to the Reds at home at
- 3:58Speaker 1: this stage of the year is not something you want
- 4:00Speaker 1: to do. Losing two out of three to....
- 4:05Speaker 2: It's acceptable.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, Milwaukee is Milwaukee. I think they're going
- 4:11Speaker 1: to be okay. But the National League is tough.
- 4:16Speaker 3: And you know Chicago is like a very, very rigid
- 4:19Speaker 3: sports town. So if they don't see counsel producing, they're
- 4:21Speaker 3: going to want him fired at some point.
- 4:23Speaker 1: So we'll have to see how that goes. He's not
- 4:26Speaker 1: getting fired at the end of this year. No matter
- 4:29Speaker 1: what happens. They have a very good team. They have
- 4:31Speaker 1: a great defensive team. And they have a very good
- 4:34Speaker 1: offensive team. Once they get in, depending on their bracket,
- 4:40Speaker 1: they'll have a A definite chance to go far in
- 4:44Speaker 1: the NL playoffs and maybe to their second World Series
- 4:49Speaker 1: since 1945. Who knows? They're legit. I mean, they're legit.
- 4:55Speaker 1: They're not, you know, they're not a victim. Not a victim.
- 5:01Speaker 1: They're not a team that's profiting from playing in a
- 5:07Speaker 1: bad division.
- 5:07Speaker 4: No.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Also, I see they're honoring Sammy Sosa with a bobblehead.
- 5:13Speaker 3: It's very interesting to see him welcome back into the
- 5:15Speaker 3: Cubs family after being, you know, excommunicated for a long time.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Yes, he was.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I want to ask you this.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Uh....
- 5:24Speaker 3: They say 150 is when they went to the National League,
- 5:26Speaker 3: but you might know more.
- 5:27Speaker 2: When did they actually form?
- 5:29Speaker 3: I guess they were a bunch of different names before
- 5:31Speaker 3: the Cubs earlier than that.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Yes, actually, one of their names, and I believe it
- 5:35Speaker 1: might have been their first name, was they were the
- 5:38Speaker 1: Chicago White Stockings. And then when the American League was
- 5:42Speaker 1: formed in 1901, the White Sox, as we know, the
- 5:46Speaker 1: White Sox we know, took that name. But I believe
- 5:50Speaker 1: their first name was... the White Stocking, and they had
- 5:55Speaker 1: other names before they settled on the Cubs. You know,
- 5:59Speaker 1: the big thing is a lot of things probably weren't trademarked.
- 6:02Speaker 1: And a lot of these nicknames in the early days
- 6:04Speaker 1: of the National League, and even the American League when
- 6:07Speaker 1: the American League started in 1901, the sports writers gave
- 6:10Speaker 1: them the nicknames. So they weren't, they caught on with
- 6:14Speaker 1: the fans, they caught on with the printed media, but
- 6:16Speaker 1: they really weren't the corporate name of a lot of
- 6:21Speaker 1: these teams. Um, but, uh, yeah, well, I mean, National
- 6:24Speaker 1: League started in 1876, I believe. The Braves also started
- 6:27Speaker 1: in 1876. Um... And.
- 6:28Speaker 3: You know about a franchise that has so much more
- 6:32Speaker 3: heartbreak than success, it's unbelievable.
- 6:34Speaker 2: But you know what?
- 6:35Speaker 3: That's why I love Wrigley, because people just kept showing
- 6:37Speaker 3: up year after year, no matter what.
- 6:39Speaker 2: They love their Cubs.
- 6:40Speaker 3: I mean, it's... It's one of the more dedicated fan bases,
- 6:43Speaker 3: unlike across town, when the White Sox literally were giving
- 6:45Speaker 3: away free tickets a few years ago just to get
- 6:47Speaker 3: people in. I mean, it was, you know, you have
- 6:49Speaker 3: two different dynamics there.
- 6:50Speaker 2: But now they're both good.
- 6:51Speaker 3: So it could be a very playoffs-oriented fall in Chicago. And,
- 6:56Speaker 3: of course, the Bears, with Caleb and Ben Johnson, could
- 7:00Speaker 3: be a fun town to be back in.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Absolutely. For them.
- 7:03Speaker 3: But I want to say this. There was two things
- 7:05Speaker 3: I was waiting for. A holy cow, which never showed up.
- 7:10Speaker 2: And the goat. I was really, really ready to win
- 7:13Speaker 2: with the billy goat.
- 7:15Speaker 1: The billy goat. Yes.
- 7:18Speaker 2: And, of course, the curse of the billy goat.
- 7:19Speaker 3: And, of course, I actually was sitting just sections above
- 7:23Speaker 3: where Mr.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Bartman was.
- 7:26Speaker 3: And I'm like, boy, that was a part of the
- 7:27Speaker 3: 150 years, wasn't it? I'm surprised they didn't bring him back.
- 7:30Speaker 2: So, you know.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Although I will say. Bartman gets a bum deal. I mean,
- 7:36Speaker 1: he really, it really wasn't his fault. But he'll be
- 7:41Speaker 1: forever known as, you know.
- 7:44Speaker 2: But they made so many renovations.
- 7:46Speaker 1: a round against the Cubs.
- 7:48Speaker 3: They made so many renovations to Wrigley even before, since
- 7:50Speaker 3: I was last there.
- 7:51Speaker 1: 15 years ago.
- 7:52Speaker 3: But it literally, you can walk around and just see
- 7:54Speaker 3: the whole park. And as I was telling you, there's
- 7:57Speaker 3: nothing like the friendly confines.
- 7:58Speaker 2: It just looks very cool.
- 7:59Speaker 3: And of course, if you like what you hear, always
- 8:02Speaker 3: subscribe to us, right, Louie, at One Look at Ballot Sports.
- 8:05Speaker 3: And then, hey, this is powered by Fanatic. So check
- 8:08Speaker 3: out my Fanatics creator link in the description below. I've
- 8:12Speaker 3: got now a PCA collection, a couple of jerseys Fanatics
- 8:15Speaker 3: has out there. Because as we talked about earlier in
- 8:17Speaker 3: the show, Louis, MVP PCA might happen here.
- 8:20Speaker 2: So we'll see.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Get your PCA apparel now. And Alex, I hope a
- 8:30Speaker 1: lot of people use your link. It was always tough
- 8:35Speaker 1: for me to say which park is better, which park
- 8:38Speaker 1: you enjoy going to more, Fenway or Wrigley. I still can't.
- 8:42Speaker 1: give you a definitive answer. I like them both for different,
- 8:45Speaker 1: you know, for different reasons. Wrigley feels great. You know,
- 8:52Speaker 1: it is, it's, it's fun, you know, and ironically it
- 8:56Speaker 1: would be fun if Cubs and Red Sox ever met
- 8:59Speaker 1: in the world series while, you know, while Wrigley and
- 9:04Speaker 1: Fenway are still around eventually one of these days, the
- 9:09Speaker 1: stadium will have, just like every other stadium, it's going
- 9:12Speaker 1: to become unusable.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Well, they will not demolish.
- 9:16Speaker 3: So I don't know if Fenway is like this, but
- 9:17Speaker 3: Wrigley is a landmark, so they probably will never demolish it.
- 9:20Speaker 1: They'll just move away. They will never demolish it. The
- 9:23Speaker 1: Cubs may obviously be a time where they probably can't
- 9:26Speaker 1: play there anymore. But I don't know if Fenway is.
- 9:29Speaker 1: But those are two, obviously, those are two of my
- 9:32Speaker 1: favorite parks outside of the New York area.
- 9:35Speaker 3: And if they weren't playing, if CeCe wasn't being honored
- 9:38Speaker 3: that night on September 26th, I'd probably go up to
- 9:41Speaker 3: see them because they're playing each other in Boston to
- 9:42Speaker 3: end the year, which I've just seen here.
- 9:44Speaker 2: So Red Sox and Cubs are playing each other.
- 9:47Speaker 1: I saw that. Yep. Now looking at schedules.
- 9:52Speaker 3: Oh man, let's talk about that because right now the
- 9:55Speaker 3: Yanks have the Rays right where they want them. Three
- 9:58Speaker 3: and a half out with another series against them to
- 10:00Speaker 3: end the year, you know, that last week of the season.
- 10:03Speaker 3: If they can hold them to around this range or
- 10:05Speaker 3: even get to two and a half or half a
- 10:07Speaker 3: game or even a couple games over, they have the division.
- 10:10Speaker 3: I mean, this is really, you could say it's the
- 10:13Speaker 3: Rays division to lose, but it could also be the
- 10:15Speaker 3: Yankees division to lose.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Because I think they have them right where they want
- 10:17Speaker 2: them right now.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Well, I don't know if they have them right where
- 10:19Speaker 1: they want them, but the Yankees definitely have a chance
- 10:22Speaker 1: to finish first, which obviously will give them an even
- 10:26Speaker 1: greater stranglehold on getting to the World Series. Not playing
- 10:31Speaker 1: that first, you know, that two out of three, basically,
- 10:34Speaker 1: you know, Russian roulette type series where anything can happen.
- 10:37Speaker 1: The Rays, let's see, the Rays, they're at Texas, then
- 10:42Speaker 1: at Atlanta. That's tough. Then they have Houston at home.
- 10:46Speaker 1: They have the Athletics at home. They have the Red
- 10:49Speaker 1: Sox at home. I mean, their last 10 games, tough.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Red Sox, four against the Yankees, and they finish with
- 10:55Speaker 1: the Phillies. So the Rays, when they get to that
- 10:59Speaker 1: last week, they want to be at least three, three
- 11:02Speaker 1: and a half games up. The Yankees' schedule is a
- 11:05Speaker 1: little different. They just beat the Angels two out of three.
- 11:13Speaker 1: And the Angels are pathetic. The Yankees should have never
- 11:16Speaker 1: lost 10-1 on Monday night, but whatever.
- 11:18Speaker 2: They could play another jet lag, I guess. I don't
- 11:20Speaker 2: know exactly.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Maybe, yeah. It could be jet lag, no doubt. Then
- 11:25Speaker 1: they play San Diego for three this weekend. Then they
- 11:28Speaker 1: have the Rockies at home for three. Alex, they got
- 11:32Speaker 1: a pound of crap out of them. They can't allow
- 11:34Speaker 1: their— I mean, the Rockies are terrible. I was watching them
- 11:38Speaker 1: yesterday and Tuesday night against the Orioles. The Orioles lost
- 11:42Speaker 1: two out of three, and they really deserved to lose
- 11:45Speaker 1: three out of three, but Colton Couser made that amazing
- 11:49Speaker 1: catch the other night to save their butt. So the
- 11:54Speaker 1: Yankees have the Rockies at home. They got to sweep them.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Then they have the Mets at home. And, of course,
- 11:59Speaker 1: I hope– as a Mets fan, I hope even– you know,
- 12:01Speaker 1: the Mets are going nowhere. I hope the Mets sweep them.
- 12:04Speaker 1: But really, realistically, as a baseball watcher, the Yankees got
- 12:08Speaker 1: to pound them. I mean, you know, they're pitching these
- 12:12Speaker 1: second-level pitches because, you know, they traded seven pitches at
- 12:15Speaker 1: the trade deadline. You can't– you got to– they got
- 12:18Speaker 1: to beat the Mets at least two out of three.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Which makes the fact the Mets pounded the Rays very
- 12:23Speaker 3: interesting to me because– All right, and let's be honest here.
- 12:27Speaker 3: The Rays should have actually lost to the Padres. That
- 12:29Speaker 3: should have been a catch to end the game on Sunday.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Well, they should have lost on Sunday. There's no doubt
- 12:34Speaker 1: about it.
- 12:35Speaker 3: And so right now, you think about that, they're not
- 12:37Speaker 3: looking that good, if you think about that. They lose
- 12:39Speaker 3: to the Mets two out of three, and as you say,
- 12:41Speaker 3: their pitching's not good. The hitting came through. That's why
- 12:44Speaker 3: I think the Rays are a very vulnerable team in
- 12:47Speaker 3: some ways, and I think some of these teams are
- 12:48Speaker 3: showing it, especially the Mets.
- 12:50Speaker 1: I think you're right. I think you're right. Now, Next
- 12:54Speaker 1: three and a half weeks is going to be very interesting.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Now, the Yankees' vulnerability is they still can't hit.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Like, I don't know why we waited until the 10th inning,
- 13:00Speaker 3: but you waste all these runners in scoring position, and
- 13:03Speaker 3: you out-hit the Angels, but still only one run on
- 13:05Speaker 3: the board. And, you know, I was a little ticked off.
- 13:09Speaker 3: I'm like, here's another great start from Schlittler, and here's
- 13:11Speaker 3: the mentality. I guess Rodon, you could throw in the mix, too,
- 13:14Speaker 3: but at least with Cole... Freed and Schlittler, you cannot
- 13:18Speaker 3: lose those days. It's unacceptable at this point in the
- 13:23Speaker 3: season to lose any of those games because those are your.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Three big guys.
- 13:26Speaker 3: Rodon and Warren are proving themselves too, but I mean,
- 13:28Speaker 3: you get quality outings for the first three I was
- 13:32Speaker 3: talking about. And the other two are, you know, we
- 13:35Speaker 3: get great performances from them, and Warren's shaped up a
- 13:37Speaker 3: little bit here.
- 13:38Speaker 2: You know, he's not putting them in the hole anymore
- 13:40Speaker 2: like he used to. So, we'll see.
- 13:43Speaker 1: You know, I think the Yankees have the deepest... a
- 13:46Speaker 1: pitching staff in baseball starters through, through, uh, the back
- 13:49Speaker 1: of the bullpen. Um, I've been saying that for a while.
- 13:53Speaker 1: I think they do. I think that's, what's going to
- 13:54Speaker 1: get them through the, uh, could get them through the ALCS, uh,
- 13:59Speaker 1: and to, to the world series. They have a, they
- 14:01Speaker 1: have a, you know, it's for Tampa, for the Yankees
- 14:05Speaker 1: and then the two best teams in the American league.
- 14:08Speaker 1: They both have a wide, a wide, a wide, a
- 14:13Speaker 1: highway to get to the, uh, To the World Series.
- 14:17Speaker 1: In the National League, I don't know. You know, you
- 14:19Speaker 1: might have the Phillies and Cubs playing each other in
- 14:21Speaker 1: the first round.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:23Speaker 1: That's tough. Atlanta is going to be playing in the
- 14:29Speaker 1: first round in all likelihood because you have Milwaukee and
- 14:33Speaker 1: the Dodgers probably getting the buys. But the Dodgers, they
- 14:40Speaker 1: have been goofing around and they may be playing in
- 14:44Speaker 1: that two out of three series. And if that happens...
- 14:47Speaker 1: Then it's totally wild.
- 14:50Speaker 3: You think the Dodgers will get the bye week because
- 14:53Speaker 3: they'll win more than the Braves right now is what
- 14:55Speaker 3: you're thinking.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Well, we'll have to see. You know, the other.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Thing about this whole playoff picture is there are still
- 15:02Speaker 3: guys that are only four and a half, three and
- 15:04Speaker 3: a half, five and a half out.
- 15:05Speaker 2: I mean, there's still some teams in reach.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, the Orioles are what, a game and
- 15:12Speaker 1: a half out? Toronto is two and a half out?
- 15:16Speaker 1: It's crazy. It really is.
- 15:19Speaker 2: What about the Rangers?
- 15:20Speaker 3: And I think Texas could really do some work against.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Alex.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Even the Mariners are only four and a half games out.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Even the Mariners, eight games under. 500, are only four
- 15:33Speaker 1: and a half games out with three weeks and three
- 15:37Speaker 1: days to go to the end of the season. All
- 15:39Speaker 1: those teams are still in it. really want to stretch
- 15:44Speaker 1: it we've seen teams six games out um with three
- 15:50Speaker 1: weeks to go with two weeks to go make up
- 15:52Speaker 1: and the tigers are six games out and 11 games
- 15:55Speaker 1: under 500 they're not out.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Of it yet it's crazy it really is well i
- 16:01Speaker 3: want to ask you about something that happened this week
- 16:02Speaker 3: which i think is good for baseball entirely It's another
- 16:08Speaker 3: ownership change, this time with the Angels, and everybody hated
- 16:11Speaker 3: Artie Moreno after a while. And look, I'm happy that
- 16:15Speaker 3: the Angels got sold, okay? I thought Moreno was not
- 16:18Speaker 3: running them the right way. I was very disappointed that
- 16:22Speaker 3: he never gave Trout an opportunity to truly win anything
- 16:25Speaker 3: there and yet locked them up for 10 years.
- 16:27Speaker 1: I just....
- 16:30Speaker 3: It was disgusting what he was doing to that Angels organization,
- 16:33Speaker 3: and I'm glad he sold it. I'm happy for Angel fans.
- 16:36Speaker 3: I think we all should be because you want stronger
- 16:39Speaker 3: owners to run these teams right now.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Alex, you're 100% correct. He made a lot of money
- 16:47Speaker 1: when he sold them for $ 4 billion. I mean, he
- 16:52Speaker 1: had Trout and Otani. And in three weeks, the Angels
- 16:58Speaker 1: will be finishing their 11th consecutive losing season. And remember,
- 17:05Speaker 1: Otani was with the Angels as recently as two years ago.
- 17:10Speaker 1: So it is definitely a good day if you're a
- 17:14Speaker 1: Los Angeles Angel fan.
- 17:18Speaker 2: And they do something about that name to begin with?
- 17:20Speaker 2: That should be the first change they make. Bring it
- 17:22Speaker 2: back to Anaheim or California or something.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Well, they should bring it back to Anaheim. But again...
- 17:29Speaker 1: This is it. He wanted the name Los Angeles, and
- 17:33Speaker 1: in 2005, he got the permission to name the Los
- 17:36Speaker 1: Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Then in 2015, he dropped of
- 17:39Speaker 1: Anaheim and just had them as the Los Angeles Angels.
- 17:43Speaker 1: But he basically just gave up. He just gave up
- 17:48Speaker 1: Los Angeles to the Dodgers. He did nothing. I don't
- 17:51Speaker 1: know if this is true, if this is hearsay. I
- 17:54Speaker 1: don't know if this is accurate. But apparently, Otani said,
- 18:00Speaker 1: if you give me the Dodger deal, you know, with
- 18:02Speaker 1: the deferred money and all that stuff, I'll stay with
- 18:06Speaker 1: the Angels. If that's true, and Artie Moreno didn't do that,
- 18:11Speaker 1: and maybe there's a reason why he didn't do that
- 18:13Speaker 1: that I can't figure out, I mean, that is just terrible.
- 18:22Speaker 1: I mean, inexcusable. So, yes, it's a great day for
- 18:27Speaker 1: fans of the Angels. Stan Kroenke will— it' s not going to
- 18:33Speaker 1: happen overnight, but he's going to get them where they're
- 18:39Speaker 1: relevant again. They have been irrelevant for so long. So, yes,
- 18:44Speaker 1: it was a good day. I mean— a new stadium.
- 18:47Speaker 1: You know, he'll bring a different aura to the Angels
- 18:51Speaker 1: as a new owner. I mean, he owns Arsenal, champions
- 18:54Speaker 1: of the Premier League. He owned the Colorado Avalanche. He's
- 18:58Speaker 1: won a cup with them. With the Rams, he's won
- 19:02Speaker 1: the Super Bowl. So he's won three major sports already.
- 19:07Speaker 1: And he owns the, I think he owns a couple
- 19:09Speaker 1: of other teams. They own, oh, he owns the Nuggets. So, yeah,
- 19:15Speaker 1: it's a good day for the Clippers. It's a good
- 19:17Speaker 1: day for the Angels. It wasn't a good day for
- 19:20Speaker 1: the Los Angeles Clippers yesterday.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Yeah, that whole thing is just awful.
- 19:24Speaker 3: I mean, and they're appealing it, but I guess there's
- 19:28Speaker 3: a lot of Kawhi Leonard situation going on there.
- 19:30Speaker 2: I don't know the whole story. You might know better.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Well, apparently what happened, it looked like they circumvented the cap,
- 19:38Speaker 1: which is one of the worst things you can do
- 19:42Speaker 1: in the NBA. Right. And his uncle was involved, and Alex,
- 19:48Speaker 1: at two. of the pastor breakfasts, he was working for
- 19:59Speaker 1: a bank in Brooklyn. And I can't remember the name
- 20:01Speaker 1: right now off the top of my head. And he
- 20:04Speaker 1: bought an ad schedule. And he had a table at
- 20:07Speaker 1: two consecutive times. pastor you know those pastor lunches that
- 20:11Speaker 1: we did that we still really yeah uncle dennis and
- 20:15Speaker 1: he said to me oh my nephew is kawaii leonard
- 20:18Speaker 1: i he was the decision maker now i didn't realize
- 20:22Speaker 1: that uh he controlled leonard's life and was basically his
- 20:27Speaker 1: agent um but he's bought for five years uh dennis robinson.
- 20:34Speaker 5: But we know him as our station is what you're
- 20:37Speaker 5: saying Yeah, no, I mean, when we were pitching, we
- 20:41Speaker 5: were pitching advertisers for the pastor's appreciation lunch.
- 20:47Speaker 1: I called the bank and I asked for the guy
- 20:51Speaker 1: in charge, you know, the guy who makes a decision
- 20:54Speaker 1: on advertising. And it was Uncle Dennis. And we did
- 20:59Speaker 1: a deal two years in a row. I did not
- 21:00Speaker 1: know he was as deeply involved in Leonard's life. But
- 21:06Speaker 1: apparently he was like his agent.
- 21:08Speaker 3: And that was probably around the time he made that
- 21:10Speaker 3: incredible shop for Toronto that sealed the deal.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Wow. Wow. Correct. Mm-hmm. But, you know, six.
- 21:20Speaker 2: So we didn't see you in the ticker tape parade.
- 21:22Speaker 2: I'm kind of disappointed.
- 21:24Speaker 1: There, Louis. You didn't see... I wasn't invited to the
- 21:27Speaker 1: ticker tape parade. And believe me, I was looking forward
- 21:30Speaker 1: to getting it. But I'm sure Uncle Dennis was on
- 21:34Speaker 1: the float.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Oh, I'm sure, right there with them. All right, so
- 21:38Speaker 2: we'll have to see how that goes because.
- 21:39Speaker 3: They're appealing it.
- 21:40Speaker 2: I don't think they're going to win.
- 21:41Speaker 1: No, they're not. It's closed. I mean, this is it.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Because the NBA.
- 21:49Speaker 2: And Baldwin just bought this team, I feel like, right?
- 21:52Speaker 1: He just bought this team. Yeah, he bought it. I
- 21:55Speaker 1: guess he bought it about 10 years ago. Time flies.
- 21:58Speaker 1: And he's done a great job. He built a new,
- 22:00Speaker 1: beautiful arena. Everybody said it's one of the most amazing
- 22:03Speaker 1: arenas in the NBA. But he helped Leonard get off-court
- 22:09Speaker 1: income opportunities, which have to go against the cap. And
- 22:12Speaker 1: it was all... you know, doing things under the table.
- 22:20Speaker 3: This sounds like a college basketball player getting punished for
- 22:24Speaker 3: doing outside work at the NCAA.
- 22:26Speaker 2: That's crazy, actually.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Well, the other thing is the Clippers got destroyed with this.
- 22:32Speaker 1: I mean, obviously, they have started a rebuild. They tried
- 22:35Speaker 1: with Harden and Westbrook and Leonard. They're all gone now.
- 22:39Speaker 1: So they were starting to rebuild a little bit or
- 22:41Speaker 1: try to retool. And now they have no draft picks
- 22:45Speaker 1: in 29, 30, 31, 32, and 33. Ballmer is suspended
- 22:47Speaker 1: for a year. And Lawrence Frank, former coach of the
- 22:51Speaker 1: Nets— And a very good guy is suspended for six
- 22:59Speaker 1: months because, obviously, he's the head of basketball operations. And
- 23:07Speaker 1: the president of business operations, and I don't know who
- 23:11Speaker 1: she is, Gillian Zucker, she's suspended without outpay for one
- 23:15Speaker 1: year because she was culpable with these endorsement arrangements that
- 23:22Speaker 1: were impermissible. So it's a mess. It really is. So
- 23:30Speaker 1: not a good day to be here. This is really
- 23:32Speaker 1: not good for the Clippers. It's an embarrassment. And Ballmer
- 23:36Speaker 1: saved the Clippers, but he did when he bought them.
- 23:40Speaker 1: That's the sad part. He really did from Donald Sterling
- 23:44Speaker 1: after that Sterling thing.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Oh, that Sterling thing. You know, the Clippers have sort
- 23:48Speaker 3: of been a cursed franchise in that situation.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Let me talk about this because we're talking about owners.
- 23:56Speaker 3: What do you think about this Rays owner that is
- 23:58Speaker 3: just so bombastic? Have you been seeing his video at
- 24:01Speaker 3: the announcement of the 2029 stadium? The Rays owner, I
- 24:05Speaker 3: think his name is Zablupski or something like that.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I haven't seen the video, but it looks like
- 24:12Speaker 1: the Braves are finally going to get their stadium on
- 24:13Speaker 1: the Tampa side of Tampa St. Pete.
- 24:16Speaker 2: The Rays, yeah.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Yes, the Rays. And I think it's going to be
- 24:23Speaker 1: good for them because that's where most of the people are. Again,
- 24:27Speaker 1: I don't know how close it's going to be to
- 24:31Speaker 1: where the Lightning play or where the Buccaneers play. But
- 24:36Speaker 1: I think it's a good thing for... If baseball is
- 24:39Speaker 1: going to be truly successful in Tampa on a long-range basis,
- 24:46Speaker 1: I think it had to be on the Tampa side.
- 24:48Speaker 1: I mean, there was 15,000 people there last night. And,
- 24:50Speaker 1: you know, 8,000 of them were rooting for the Mets.
- 24:53Speaker 1: You know, all these transplanted New Yorkers who moved down
- 24:55Speaker 1: to Florida.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know if you can pick this up
- 24:57Speaker 3: well on the phone, but I'm going to play you
- 24:59Speaker 3: a soundbite of the announcement earlier this.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Week because I think you'll get a kick out of it.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Because this is Ray's ownership... And I'll tell you, if.
- 25:08Speaker 3: They lose the division, I would not want to be
- 25:11Speaker 3: facing this guy in his offices.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Let me tell you. Listen to this.
- 25:15Speaker 1: My first job was still on the coast.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Of the Old Sombrero at 14 years old.
- 25:19Speaker 4: You're going to tell me that the Old Sombrero, when
- 25:21Speaker 4: we had the Buccaneers go 0-26, okay, and Doug Williams
- 25:25Speaker 4: came and we were one game away from going to
- 25:27Speaker 4: the Super Bowl, was a waste of money? You're going
- 25:30Speaker 4: to tell me that when we built Raymond James Stadium
- 25:32Speaker 4: and we got all those jobs for African-Americans? I grew
- 25:35Speaker 4: up with blacks in the Bronx before I came down
- 25:37Speaker 4: here in 1973. In 1973, there was no Rays, no Bucks,
- 25:41Speaker 4: and no Lightning.
- 25:42Speaker 2: You're gonna tell me when Phil Esposito put a.
- 25:45Speaker 4: Hockey team and said, we're gonna have hockey in Amelie
- 25:47Speaker 4: Arena over there and Stamkos and Lecavier and those guys
- 25:52Speaker 4: got it done and won the Stanley Cup? You're gonna
- 25:55Speaker 4: tell me that was a waste of money too?
- 25:58Speaker 2: Get out of my face. You people, you don't even
- 26:00Speaker 2: know what you're talking about. I do not want to
- 26:03Speaker 2: be facing him if they lose the division.
- 26:05Speaker 1: To the Yankees. Oh, so he's a New York guy
- 26:10Speaker 1: from the Bronx. Yeah, in 73. That's a long time
- 26:14Speaker 1: ago to be down there. Wow. He will be interesting,
- 26:19Speaker 1: but at least he saved the race from relocation because
- 26:23Speaker 1: it looks like now this deal is sealed. You know.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Oh, it was terrible. There was a lot of things
- 26:28Speaker 2: up in the air with the Rays. So, look, the
- 26:31Speaker 2: Angels are bought. I'm hoping the A's are next. I'm
- 26:34Speaker 2: hoping for Skeen's sake the Pirates get sold. These teams
- 26:37Speaker 2: need a.
- 26:37Speaker 3: Revamp because, and I was just about to say, did
- 26:40Speaker 3: Angelo sell the team, the owners, the Orioles?
- 26:44Speaker 2: Did he sell that team?
- 26:49Speaker 1: Angelos, you mean the old Orioles man? Yeah. The owner? Yeah,
- 26:53Speaker 1: they sold the team. Yeah, they sold the team.
- 26:56Speaker 3: See, I remember when they were walkouts in that stadium
- 26:58Speaker 3: because they were pissed off with him, and look what happened.
- 27:01Speaker 3: They changed hands, and they got in the playoffs with
- 27:04Speaker 3: Buck Showalter and everything.
- 27:06Speaker 2: I mean, change is good.
- 27:08Speaker 3: I don't know what the Yanks are going to do
- 27:09Speaker 3: because I see they just sold some of their shares
- 27:12Speaker 3: to Apollo Entertainment.
- 27:13Speaker 1: I mean, these.
- 27:15Speaker 3: Time's moving on, Louie, so maybe a change of hands
- 27:17Speaker 3: is not the worst thing in the world for some
- 27:19Speaker 3: of these teams.
- 27:21Speaker 1: You're right. I mean, look at the Koch family. They
- 27:27Speaker 1: bought 15% of the Nets two years ago, and last year,
- 27:31Speaker 1: 18 months ago, they bought 10% of the Giants. I mean,
- 27:34Speaker 1: the Giants were always a 50-50 ownership.
- 27:36Speaker 2: And look what Dolan just did. He just made them public,
- 27:39Speaker 2: the Rangers.
- 27:41Speaker 1: We are approaching a different world.
- 27:43Speaker 3: And I'll tell you— On the Citi Field side of things, okay,
- 27:48Speaker 3: so I know Soto got paid all that money. Lindor
- 27:51Speaker 3: has a big contract. I don't like the theory that
- 27:55Speaker 3: Cohen bought the Mets so he could build a casino
- 27:59Speaker 3: right next to it. I think that's just– I don't
- 28:00Speaker 3: think they're correlated, but maybe you disagree.
- 28:03Speaker 2: With me on that.
- 28:03Speaker 1: No, I don't disagree with you. I don't think that's
- 28:06Speaker 1: the reason he bought the Mets. Look at this. We
- 28:10Speaker 1: always talk about this. Cohen was very, very successful. But
- 28:16Speaker 1: nobody knew who he was until he bought a pro
- 28:18Speaker 1: sports team. And we can go through the history. We
- 28:23Speaker 1: can go back to 1973 when Mr. Steinbrenner brought the Yankees.
- 28:26Speaker 1: We talked about it before. He was a very successful
- 28:29Speaker 1: man in the shipbuilding industry. But we don't know. I
- 28:31Speaker 1: never heard of George Steinbrenner until he bought the Yankees
- 28:34Speaker 1: in 1973. And we can go through every league, every ownership. Oh,
- 28:40Speaker 1: that guy was successful, but I didn't know who he
- 28:42Speaker 1: was until he bought this team or that team. So
- 28:45Speaker 1: I don't think he bought the Mets for the casino.
- 28:49Speaker 1: I really don't. I think he wants to win. This
- 28:52Speaker 1: year is very similar to what the Braves went through
- 28:54Speaker 1: last year. I really hope that there's no lockout or
- 28:58Speaker 1: strike this offseason because that will hurt the Mets trying
- 29:07Speaker 1: to improve their roster a little bit.
- 29:10Speaker 2: I really hope.
- 29:11Speaker 1: And it's not only for the Mets, for all of baseball.
- 29:13Speaker 1: We don't want to see that.
- 29:14Speaker 2: No.
- 29:15Speaker 3: By the way, I see the 77 losses, so only
- 29:19Speaker 3: four to go before it's an even 500. I think
- 29:23Speaker 3: they're going to have a losing record, but you never know.
- 29:26Speaker 3: It'd be crazy if they did not have a losing
- 29:28Speaker 3: record to end this year. However, if they can keep
- 29:31Speaker 3: winning series, that's a good sign going into 2027.
- 29:33Speaker 1: I'm going to say one thing. Andy Green has done
- 29:37Speaker 1: a nice job, and I would not– not mind to
- 29:40Speaker 1: see him getting the permanent position as manager, but he doesn't.
- 29:44Speaker 1: He says he wants to go back to player personnel.
- 29:46Speaker 1: He's done a good job. I mean, remember, they're 16-11
- 29:49Speaker 1: or 17-11 since the trade deadline, and on the trade deadline,
- 29:52Speaker 1: they traded eight guys. That's a third of a team.
- 29:59Speaker 1: four totally effective relief pitchers, and three starters. And Clay
- 30:05Speaker 1: Holmes has been terrific for the Cubs. He's been lights out,
- 30:09Speaker 1: with the exception of one game. And Peterson's been very
- 30:12Speaker 1: good for them. And he wasn't good for the Mets
- 30:15Speaker 1: at all. So Andy Green's done a nice job. He
- 30:20Speaker 1: said he doesn't want the job. I don't think they
- 30:22Speaker 1: can twist his arm. Um... But, you know, we'll see
- 30:28Speaker 1: who gets a job at the end of the year.
- 30:31Speaker 1: I mean, I guess everybody thinks it's going to be Beltran.
- 30:33Speaker 1: I'm not so sure. I would rather see somebody.
- 30:35Speaker 3: That's the big thing happening this month. And I guess
- 30:37Speaker 3: they're honoring Howie as well this month. But the big
- 30:39Speaker 3: thing is his number of retirements happening in a couple
- 30:43Speaker 3: weeks from now. So maybe we'll be there to see that.
- 30:46Speaker 3: I'll have to figure that all out. But you talk
- 30:48Speaker 3: about coaches and managers. I want to switch gears here because...
- 30:53Speaker 3: Did I see it right that Bill Belichick won his
- 30:56Speaker 3: first game of the season this year, this past week?
- 31:01Speaker 1: Yes, he did. It wasn't in his country. It was
- 31:03Speaker 1: in Ireland. They were underdog against Texas Christian University, and
- 31:10Speaker 1: they won. They won in Dublin, and good defensive effort
- 31:18Speaker 1: by Belichick's Tar Heels. I don't know how good they are.
- 31:22Speaker 1: They got to be better than they were last year.
- 31:24Speaker 1: I know he doesn't want to repeat a disaster like
- 31:28Speaker 1: last year. They probably will be 7-5, you know, something
- 31:35Speaker 1: like that.
- 31:35Speaker 3: And I believe they play Syracuse on Halloween, which will
- 31:39Speaker 3: be interesting.
- 31:39Speaker 2: At Syracuse? I think so.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Yes, I believe.
- 31:44Speaker 2: Oh, no, it's going to be down in Chapel Hill,
- 31:46Speaker 2: I think.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Okay.
- 31:47Speaker 2: We'll see what happens. You know, the other thing about
- 31:49Speaker 2: it is there wasn't just that game. There were a
- 31:52Speaker 2: couple games on Saturday.
- 31:54Speaker 3: Normally it's one game, but they had USC opening that night,
- 31:56Speaker 3: I think it was.
- 31:58Speaker 1: I'm not a week zero guy, as they call it.
- 32:03Speaker 1: They got to start. They got to push these games
- 32:06Speaker 1: back to Labor Day weekend or the weekend after Labor Day.
- 32:10Speaker 1: I mean— It's just ridiculous. Nobody went to see the
- 32:15Speaker 1: USC San Jose State game. It was on National TV.
- 32:19Speaker 1: They announced 51,000. Alex looked like it was 30,000 in
- 32:25Speaker 1: a 90,000-seat stadium. Stanford and Hawaii played. That game was
- 32:30Speaker 1: only on the ACC network, and there was like 20,000
- 32:33Speaker 1: people there. So nobody cares about those games. And that's
- 32:36Speaker 1: why maybe it's time to You know, get rid of
- 32:42Speaker 1: these non-conference games again that really like exhibition games and
- 32:48Speaker 1: just play games in your conference or against the Power Four,
- 32:52Speaker 1: you know, the Power Four conferences.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 32:55Speaker 3: Well, you know what I loved last year is Notre Dame,
- 32:58Speaker 3: even though they lost, that was a very good matchup
- 33:00Speaker 3: to open up the season against Miami, and it was
- 33:03Speaker 3: just a bit of a heartbreaker because that ends up
- 33:06Speaker 3: deciding whether they make the playoffs or not at the
- 33:08Speaker 3: end of the day, and Miami makes it. I think
- 33:11Speaker 3: because of that win against Notre Dame, that was a
- 33:13Speaker 3: reason why they made it to to the to the playoffs.
- 33:18Speaker 3: And really, Notre Dame had a great year. But, yeah,
- 33:20Speaker 3: they lost that first game and it cost them a lot, actually.
- 33:23Speaker 1: So we'll have to see.
- 33:25Speaker 2: But I'm excited. I like college football. I like this
- 33:27Speaker 2: time of year.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Well, Alex, Alex, we got to give it a name
- 33:31Speaker 1: because it's not college football anymore. So we got to
- 33:33Speaker 1: give it a name, or if anybody who's listening want
- 33:36Speaker 1: to give it a name. NFL 2, Semi Pro 1.
- 33:42Speaker 1: We need a name. We can't call it college football anymore.
- 33:45Speaker 2: How about we call it.
- 33:49Speaker 2: I don't know, like a G League type of thing,
- 33:52Speaker 2: you know?
- 33:52Speaker 1: Yeah, something like that.
- 33:54Speaker 2: I think you mentioned that last time.
- 33:58Speaker 3: All right, let's go to your thoughts on the cutdowns
- 34:02Speaker 3: of the NFL rosters, especially locally.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Odell's making it to the pro roster. I guess Harbaugh
- 34:09Speaker 2: liked what he saw from him.
- 34:11Speaker 3: And I heard he made another one-handed catch in preseason,
- 34:13Speaker 3: so that was kind of interesting. But Your Jets, I mean,
- 34:20Speaker 3: can they really be successful with Geno Smith? Is this
- 34:22Speaker 3: a possibility? Because, you know, it's so interesting. He failed
- 34:26Speaker 3: pretty much his first time around.
- 34:27Speaker 2: What's going to make this different?
- 34:29Speaker 1: Well, his first time around was 12 years ago. And
- 34:31Speaker 1: he is, you know, since then, obviously, he's had success.
- 34:35Speaker 1: In Seattle, we had back-to-back 4,000-yard years. The Jets aren't
- 34:41Speaker 1: coming to a lot of games. Their first-half schedule is very,
- 34:45Speaker 1: very tough. I mean, if they don't win on... On
- 34:48Speaker 1: opening day in Nashville, they're probably going to lose the
- 34:52Speaker 1: next three to Green Bay at home, at Chicago, at Detroit.
- 34:57Speaker 1: They'll probably start 0-4 if they don't win on opening day.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Then they come home to the Browns, and I think
- 35:01Speaker 1: the Browns are going to be terrible. But, yeah, Geno
- 35:05Speaker 1: Smith is a good placeholder because I don't think Geno
- 35:08Speaker 1: Smith next year at this time will be the quarterback.
- 35:12Speaker 1: They're going to draft a quarterback with their three number ones. Or,
- 35:19Speaker 1: and this is just me speculating, I haven't heard this anywhere,
- 35:23Speaker 1: but I've listened to a couple of his press conferences,
- 35:28Speaker 1: and I don't know, maybe Joe Burrow might be out
- 35:31Speaker 1: there at the end of this year, because he's saying stuff,
- 35:35Speaker 1: if we don't win, if we start winning, he didn't
- 35:37Speaker 1: say trade me or anything like that, but he's saying,
- 35:40Speaker 1: you know, it's time, I want to win. He'll be 29,
- 35:42Speaker 1: 30 years old. Alex If he's out there and he
- 35:47Speaker 1: wants to get traded, I'd give him all three number
- 35:49Speaker 1: ones for him. And I'd give him the number two.
- 35:52Speaker 1: I mean, that's how you're not going to get a
- 35:54Speaker 1: guy like that. Now, will the Jets be ready to
- 35:57Speaker 1: win next year? No, but they would be better if
- 35:58Speaker 1: he was there than to have a rookie quarterback who
- 36:02Speaker 1: most likely will be starting probably on opening day. It's
- 36:05Speaker 1: not an opening day very shortly after that. Yeah.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Well, how's the health of the team?
- 36:11Speaker 3: Because I know that, you know, this newcomer, the draftee, Sadiq,
- 36:17Speaker 3: got actually carted off the field during one practice.
- 36:19Speaker 2: And then you had Brees Hall have a scare. Is
- 36:22Speaker 2: he back? Is he healthy or what's happening?
- 36:25Speaker 1: According to Aaron Glenn's last press conference, and I watched
- 36:28Speaker 1: it a couple of days ago, he said that they
- 36:31Speaker 1: all should be ready for opening day. So, you know,
- 36:36Speaker 1: we'll know on September 13th if they are. Another guy
- 36:43Speaker 1: that might be available, another quarterback that might be available
- 36:46Speaker 1: at the end of this year is a two-time MVP.
- 36:48Speaker 1: And again, I didn't read this anywhere. I'm just speculating.
- 36:52Speaker 1: This is me, you know, looking around what's going on
- 36:55Speaker 1: around the league. Lamar Jackson might be available if the
- 37:00Speaker 1: Ravens take a step back. if he starts getting a
- 37:04Speaker 1: lot of criticism for them not being successful postseason. You know,
- 37:08Speaker 1: everybody's crazy about having Harbaugh as a Giants coach, and
- 37:11Speaker 1: I would be too if he was a Jets coach.
- 37:14Speaker 1: But remember, he's had a two-time MVP, and Harbaugh hasn't
- 37:20Speaker 1: been able to get them with this two-time MVP to
- 37:23Speaker 1: the Super Bowl. And, you know, they've had a lot
- 37:26Speaker 1: of postseason issues. So maybe at the end of this year, does...
- 37:33Speaker 1: does Jackson say, you know, get me out of here?
- 37:35Speaker 1: I don't know. These are just speculation on my part.
- 37:39Speaker 1: I mean, after the Rams, it's Buffalo and Baltimore and
- 37:44Speaker 1: Vegas as far as Super Bowl odds. So they expect
- 37:48Speaker 1: to have a very good team. And I think they
- 37:50Speaker 1: might win that division, which is usually tough. But I
- 37:53Speaker 1: don't think the Steelers are very good. I could be
- 37:56Speaker 1: wrong there. The Browns are terrible.
- 37:58Speaker 3: You mean the Browns going with Deshaun Watson, God forbid
- 38:01Speaker 3: he's at a parlor, is going to win?
- 38:04Speaker 2: They're a damn mess.
- 38:06Speaker 1: No, that's a mess.
- 38:07Speaker 3: And like Stephans, he's better than that team. You know,
- 38:10Speaker 3: I think he's a better coach than we give him
- 38:12Speaker 3: credit for.
- 38:13Speaker 2: So I don't know. I feel like you're just stacked.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Well, remember, he's in Atlanta now.
- 38:16Speaker 2: That's right.
- 38:17Speaker 1: And Atlanta's a mess. So Todd Munkin is in Cleveland.
- 38:22Speaker 2: That's right. He was supposed to be the Giants' old coordinator,
- 38:24Speaker 2: then he.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Became the Giants' new coordinator. That's right. Exactly right. He
- 38:27Speaker 1: was supposed to be the offensive coordinator. So, yeah, so
- 38:30Speaker 1: there's some messy situations there. Obviously, I think as a
- 38:34Speaker 1: Jet fan, what you want to see, Alex, they're going
- 38:37Speaker 1: to win six games, maybe seven. I want to see
- 38:41Speaker 1: them a little bit better organized. I don't want to
- 38:44Speaker 1: see them, you know, two minutes to go in the game,
- 38:47Speaker 1: not knowing what's going on. As far as a coaching
- 38:49Speaker 1: staff goes, Glenn has to do a better job at
- 38:52Speaker 1: clock management, at game management, at down and distance management.
- 38:57Speaker 1: If not, I still think there's a 70% chance. I
- 39:03Speaker 1: think he could be fired by November 1st. Because, look,
- 39:12Speaker 1: at the end of this year, Tomlin is going to
- 39:15Speaker 1: be available. He's coming back here. I doubt if Mike
- 39:18Speaker 1: Tomlin is never going to coach a game again. He
- 39:20Speaker 1: wants to coach. I think Kyle Shanahan might be available.
- 39:26Speaker 1: I know they were 12-5 last year. but I don't know.
- 39:31Speaker 1: Something tells me this is his 10th year there. I
- 39:34Speaker 1: just think that he might be available. It'd be time
- 39:36Speaker 1: for him to go. Sean McDermott, who's taking this year off.
- 39:41Speaker 1: Sean McDermott, who led the Bills to eight playoff spots
- 39:46Speaker 1: in nine years, Before that, the Bills didn't make the playoffs.
- 39:50Speaker 1: So 17 straight, he's going to be available.
- 39:54Speaker 2: And he molded– you know what?
- 39:56Speaker 3: He molded– He molded Allen, and he grew up Allen, right?
- 40:05Speaker 3: And that was his mark. And now, you know, I
- 40:09Speaker 3: do agree, though, that that was running out with him
- 40:11Speaker 3: because they kept losing. It was just like, all right,
- 40:13Speaker 3: you got us there, got them there, but what's next?
- 40:16Speaker 2: You know, that was the only question.
- 40:18Speaker 1: Dave won 91 games the last seven years, and he
- 40:20Speaker 1: was the coach. The most in the NFL. They've won
- 40:24Speaker 1: the most games in the NFL without getting to the
- 40:26Speaker 1: Super Bowl.
- 40:27Speaker 3: And I believe Joe Brady's a freshman coach, is he not? Yes,
- 40:29Speaker 3: he is.
- 40:31Speaker 2: And he got promoted, actually. But no, McDonough would be good.
- 40:36Speaker 2: I think he'd be a good fit for the Jets. A,
- 40:38Speaker 2: because he knows the AFC East.
- 40:40Speaker 3: And B, because, you know, Cade Klubnick's there, I know,
- 40:44Speaker 3: but then they'll draft another QB.
- 40:47Speaker 1: At least one, if not two.
- 40:50Speaker 2: And this is why the Giants went after Harbaugh.
- 40:52Speaker 3: I mean, besides the name and all that and what
- 40:54Speaker 3: he did with the Ravens, I think John Merrill looked
- 40:58Speaker 3: at what he did with the Lamar Jackson and said, well,
- 41:01Speaker 3: now we could do this with Jackson Dart.
- 41:03Speaker 2: Like, I think there's a correlation there because.
- 41:04Speaker 3: He saw how Harbaugh really grew Lamar Jackson up.
- 41:11Speaker 2: And I guess toward the end, it wasn't as friendly.
- 41:13Speaker 2: I don't know exactly what happened there, but.
- 41:15Speaker 1: It always happens.
- 41:16Speaker 2: The point is, he made Lamar Jackson. You know what
- 41:19Speaker 2: I mean? Like, he helped make that happen. I think
- 41:21Speaker 2: he's expecting that with Dart.
- 41:23Speaker 3: And we'll see. And I think with Joe Brady up
- 41:26Speaker 3: in Buffalo, I think they're just... They're hoping you can
- 41:29Speaker 3: take them to the next level. I think that's a
- 41:31Speaker 3: lot to ask of a freshman coach to say, well,
- 41:34Speaker 3: what can you do now that we let go of
- 41:36Speaker 3: our veteran coach? That's a lot to ask of them,
- 41:37Speaker 3: especially with, I don't know who's around, Josh Allen this year.
- 41:43Speaker 2: You know, there's no big names this year.
- 41:44Speaker 1: He's a freshman coach with a veteran team, and that's
- 41:49Speaker 1: always an interesting dynamic. Now, yes, he was the offensive coordinator.
- 41:53Speaker 1: They're the best team. I still think they're the best
- 41:55Speaker 1: team in the division. I think the Dolphins are the
- 41:57Speaker 1: worst team.
- 41:58Speaker 3: I think they could beat the KC Chiefs unless the
- 42:02Speaker 3: Chiefs are back at it.
- 42:03Speaker 2: But I don't know. They don't seem to be their
- 42:04Speaker 2: normal self this year so far.
- 42:07Speaker 1: Well, we'll see. And the Chiefs are in a tough division.
- 42:10Speaker 1: But getting back to the Jets, the Jets play the
- 42:14Speaker 1: AFC North and the NFC West. Excuse me. They play
- 42:21Speaker 1: the NFC North and the AFC West. You couldn't ask
- 42:25Speaker 1: for eight tougher games for a team like the Jets
- 42:28Speaker 1: that are rebuilding and don't have a lot, a lot
- 42:31Speaker 1: of talent. They have some more talent than they did
- 42:34Speaker 1: last year. I think Frank Reich is a positive. Hopefully
- 42:38Speaker 1: the experience of year one for Glenn will make him
- 42:41Speaker 1: a better coach. But Alex, at the end of this year,
- 42:43Speaker 1: say by some chance the Jets win seven games and
- 42:47Speaker 1: go 7-10. And people say, well, isn't that enough games
- 42:51Speaker 1: to keep Glenn employed? When you have Tomlin out there,
- 42:54Speaker 1: and you might have Kyle Shanahan out there, or McDermott,
- 43:01Speaker 1: or you might have— and I think Lincoln Riley is in
- 43:05Speaker 1: his last— I don't think he's happy in— in Los Angeles
- 43:09Speaker 1: with Southern USC. He might be available. And I know
- 43:14Speaker 1: people say I'm crazy, but I've watched a lot of
- 43:16Speaker 1: his press conferences. And Marcus Freeman might love coaching Notre Dame,
- 43:21Speaker 1: but he's not happy what's going on in college football.
- 43:24Speaker 1: And we've seen it, especially in basketball, where coaches just say,
- 43:29Speaker 1: you know what, this is not for me. We saw
- 43:31Speaker 1: it with Jay Wright. we saw it with Tony Bennett at, at,
- 43:36Speaker 1: at Virginia.
- 43:37Speaker 2: We're going to see what Patino, if things continue, I think.
- 43:39Speaker 2: So we're going to see that with Patino at some point, but.
- 43:43Speaker 1: Yeah. So, yeah, so it'll be that from that point,
- 43:47Speaker 1: it'll be interesting. But again, I think there's a good
- 43:49Speaker 1: chance that Frank Ragg will be the interim coach on,
- 43:53Speaker 1: on November 1st. I hope, you know, I'm not rooting
- 43:56Speaker 1: for that because when, when a manager or a coach
- 43:59Speaker 1: for any team gets let go, People say, oh, I'm
- 44:05Speaker 1: so glad they finally got rid of this guy. That's
- 44:06Speaker 1: not a positive thing for the development of the franchise.
- 44:10Speaker 2: No, it's not.
- 44:11Speaker 1: It's a negative. Not only publicity negative, it's a negative
- 44:14Speaker 1: in building the team.
- 44:17Speaker 3: Yeah, no, and I mean, I always thought Dable should have...
- 44:20Speaker 3: I mean, they let him go with too late in
- 44:22Speaker 3: the season, though. They let him go, and it was
- 44:24Speaker 3: done by then. But I think that was to make
- 44:27Speaker 3: the fans say, hey, we hear you, we care, or whatever,
- 44:30Speaker 3: and all that.
- 44:30Speaker 1: All right.
- 44:31Speaker 3: Well, in a couple of weeks from now, I can't
- 44:33Speaker 3: believe I'm saying this, but as NHL tweeted, there's hockey
- 44:36Speaker 3: this month.
- 44:37Speaker 2: There's hockey in September. And are you impressed with how
- 44:42Speaker 2: the lines are looking?
- 44:44Speaker 3: Have they been doing any lines, you know, shift, you know, previews,
- 44:47Speaker 3: anything like that from your vantage point, Louie?
- 44:50Speaker 1: Well, I mean, the thing is, as we approach, uh,
- 44:55Speaker 1: you know, the training camp opening up and, uh, it's
- 44:57Speaker 1: going to be a quick training camp because I think
- 44:59Speaker 1: the Islanders open up on, uh, camp on September 18th,
- 45:03Speaker 1: and I think they play their first game 12 days later,
- 45:05Speaker 1: September 30th in Toronto. So it's going to be a
- 45:13Speaker 1: truncated camp as far as length goes. But here we are,
- 45:18Speaker 1: a couple of weeks before training, camp opens for all
- 45:21Speaker 1: these different NHL teams. We still have some question marks
- 45:24Speaker 1: out there in the NHL. Connor Hellebuck, is he going
- 45:29Speaker 1: to be on the Winnipeg Jets on opening night? Is
- 45:31Speaker 1: he going to be a Buffalo Sabre? Is he going
- 45:33Speaker 1: to be a New Jersey Devil? I doubt. But is
- 45:37Speaker 1: he going to be somewhere playing for an American city
- 45:41Speaker 1: in the NHL? I don't know how that's going to
- 45:44Speaker 1: play out. Same thing with the clock is ticking on
- 45:48Speaker 1: with Quinn Hughes. He's still unsigned with Minnesota. Yes, he's
- 45:54Speaker 1: signed through the end of this year, but will they
- 45:57Speaker 1: trade him before puck drop on September 28th, which is
- 46:03Speaker 1: opening night. The Islanders, I think the Devils playing in 2019.
- 46:06Speaker 3: Louis, did you ever think that would be something you'd
- 46:08Speaker 3: ever say, that puck drop is on September 28th?
- 46:11Speaker 2: That is just... No, I.
- 46:14Speaker 3: Now, is it more than just the 84-game schedule? Is
- 46:16Speaker 3: there another reason why they're starting so early?
- 46:18Speaker 2: Do you know?
- 46:19Speaker 1: Well, I think it's the 84-game schedule has something to
- 46:22Speaker 1: do with it. And I think they're saying they're just
- 46:24Speaker 1: trying to set the calendar because in 28... there's a
- 46:29Speaker 1: World Cup of Hockey. So the league is going to
- 46:32Speaker 1: be shut down for two weeks. And I think they're
- 46:36Speaker 1: getting us, our mindset, okay, we're starting in September every
- 46:40Speaker 1: year now. So I think that might have something to
- 46:43Speaker 1: do with it. I can't say for sure. But if
- 46:47Speaker 1: Quinn Hughes is going to end up on the Devils,
- 46:49Speaker 1: the Devils would have to trade a major player back,
- 46:52Speaker 1: obviously because he's so talented. And two, right now they
- 46:55Speaker 1: couldn't fit Quinn Hughes under the cap unless they make
- 46:58Speaker 1: a major trade. Dylan Larkin, who said, I want to
- 47:03Speaker 1: be traded three months ago. He's still a Red Wing.
- 47:08Speaker 1: I mean, he's a very good player. You know, all
- 47:11Speaker 1: three guys I just mentioned were members of the United
- 47:13Speaker 1: States Olympic team.
- 47:14Speaker 2: That's right.
- 47:16Speaker 1: That won the gold medal.
- 47:17Speaker 3: Now, if they were to trade, maybe they'd trade a
- 47:18Speaker 3: Parisi or something like that. I don't know exactly who
- 47:21Speaker 3: they would get rid of.
- 47:23Speaker 1: So, you know, we'll see what happens there. But, I mean,
- 47:31Speaker 1: the next two weeks could be some action in the NHL.
- 47:36Speaker 1: I don't know. We'll talk about next week or the
- 47:38Speaker 1: week after, or when we get close to opening day,
- 47:41Speaker 1: about where we think the three teams locally will fare
- 47:46Speaker 1: this year. But, yeah, we'll be here before you know it, Alex.
- 47:52Speaker 2: Labor Day is already here. The U.S. Open is on now, and,
- 47:55Speaker 2: you know— Djokovic, I think, is done, but I don't know.
- 47:58Speaker 3: I feel like he wants to try and do it
- 47:59Speaker 3: again before he retires.
- 48:02Speaker 1: I mean, I guess he was sick the other night.
- 48:04Speaker 1: I mean, he was throwing up.
- 48:06Speaker 3: Look, I want to see him in Championship 25. Like,
- 48:09Speaker 3: he deserves that title.
- 48:11Speaker 1: He deserves 25 because they wouldn't let him play in
- 48:16Speaker 1: Australia because of COVID. Oh, that's right. Because of COVID.
- 48:20Speaker 1: And he would have won. He would have won at
- 48:23Speaker 1: least one or two of those tournaments. The one thing
- 48:26Speaker 1: that you mentioned, the U.S. Open, and real quick, and
- 48:28Speaker 1: then we'll wrap it up.
- 48:29Speaker 2: You're not buying a $ 700 grounds pass, Louis? That's not happening?
- 48:33Speaker 1: No, that's okay. I'll watch it on ESPN. The prices
- 48:39Speaker 1: are out of control, Alex.
- 48:41Speaker 2: They really are.
- 48:42Speaker 1: I mean, it's a shame because it's a great event.
- 48:47Speaker 1: But starting, you know, they always start matches late, 11 o'clock, 1045.
- 48:52Speaker 1: But the other night they started. They started, Serena Williams
- 48:54Speaker 1: was involved in the match, started at 12.13 in the morning.
- 48:59Speaker 1: That's criminal. That's terrible.
- 49:02Speaker 2: It really is.
- 49:02Speaker 1: I mean, I know it's a compact schedule and they
- 49:08Speaker 1: got to try to get in in a two-week period,
- 49:10Speaker 1: but that's just nuts, starting a match at 12.
- 49:13Speaker 3: So me and my friend will be there forever, it
- 49:15Speaker 3: sounds like, on Tuesday night is what I'm hearing.
- 49:17Speaker 2: We'll have to see.
- 49:19Speaker 1: We'll have to see. you have the night session?
- 49:22Speaker 3: Yeah, well, as everybody knows by now, I have Idalla
- 49:25Speaker 3: Wednesday night, so I moved it over to Tuesday night,
- 49:28Speaker 3: and then I'll be at Taste of Times Square Wednesday night,
- 49:30Speaker 3: so it'll be a busy couple of days. But yeah,
- 49:32Speaker 3: I took the night session, and she loves Alcaraz, so
- 49:34Speaker 3: maybe she'll get to see him, because he looks pretty
- 49:37Speaker 3: like he's going to keep going through this tournament. And
- 49:39Speaker 3: I don't know, I noticed this kind of weird trade-off
- 49:41Speaker 3: where one star's not in, but the other's in, like
- 49:45Speaker 3: Sinner's not in, but Alcaraz is back, and Alcaraz wasn't
- 49:47Speaker 3: in Wimbledon, but he's now.
- 49:49Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 49:49Speaker 3: Does that happen often? Maybe I'm just noticing the patterns more,
- 49:52Speaker 3: but it's interesting.
- 49:54Speaker 1: Well, again, one was banged up for the other tournament,
- 49:57Speaker 1: you know, for the earlier tournaments, you know, French and Wimbledon.
- 50:03Speaker 1: Sinner wanted to play and, you know, last week or
- 50:05Speaker 1: 10 days ago announced that, you know, I can't go.
- 50:09Speaker 1: I just think it, I don't think it's trend of
- 50:13Speaker 1: any type. It's just that injuries happen.
- 50:16Speaker 3: Yep, they do.
- 50:17Speaker 2: One last note.
- 50:19Speaker 3: I always keep an eye on Osaka because her mental
- 50:23Speaker 3: health is always something of an interest since that whole.
- 50:26Speaker 2: Thing, which happened at our thrash. I still don't understand.
- 50:29Speaker 3: The fact they booed her was just so classless to me.
- 50:32Speaker 3: I'll never forget that. It set her back a little.
- 50:35Speaker 2: Bit mentally, I think.
- 50:37Speaker 1: People are people. Fans are fans. They don't know what
- 50:42Speaker 1: athletes go through. Everybody thinks being an athlete in any
- 50:45Speaker 1: sport is... You know, a walk in the park, an
- 50:48Speaker 1: easy job. It's not an easy job. They put pressure
- 50:52Speaker 1: on themselves. They want Excel. And believe me, they hear
- 50:58Speaker 1: the boos. They do.
- 51:00Speaker 2: We started the show talking about the Dodgers-Yankees. I understand that.
- 51:04Speaker 3: When Todd Tucker was really struggling, they gave him a
- 51:06Speaker 3: standing ovation to try and.
- 51:07Speaker 1: Give him encouragement.
- 51:09Speaker 3: So, you know, these guys, these fans do know that
- 51:13Speaker 3: this stuff weighs on these players.
- 51:15Speaker 2: So, especially when I see them get bottles thrown on
- 51:18Speaker 2: the field and all that. I hate when that happens.
- 51:20Speaker 1: Yeah, well, that's inexcusable. Inexcusable, Alex. Yeah, I mean, really.
- 51:29Speaker 3: Well, just like the influencers that are yelling at these
- 51:32Speaker 3: matches is something they're making.
- 51:33Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. I saw that. What is that all about
- 51:36Speaker 1: at the US Open? We are– Just losing our minds.
- 51:43Speaker 3: But my friend and I, who are kind of out
- 51:45Speaker 3: there in the world, have to pay. Meanwhile, these influencers
- 51:48Speaker 3: get to disturb the peace for free.
- 51:50Speaker 2: I don't understand this. It's just very bizarre. All right, Louie.
- 51:54Speaker 3: On that note, that was Termello's take on pretty much everything.
- 51:57Speaker 3: I think we covered everything, Louie, and didn't leave anything
- 51:59Speaker 3: under the table, did we?
- 52:01Speaker 1: I don't think we did. I mean, obviously, big week.
- 52:05Speaker 1: And again, with this Clipper situation, the guy who got
- 52:09Speaker 1: punished the least was Leonard.
- 52:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 52:14Speaker 1: $ 700, 000 fine? Alex, that's like me or you throwing a
- 52:18Speaker 1: $ 5 bill away.
- 52:19Speaker 3: That's probably the union stepping in and doing something about that.
- 52:23Speaker 1: Yeah, it could be. But he skirted a major punishment,
- 52:29Speaker 1: in my opinion. So we covered everything. Yep.
- 52:34Speaker 3: We did the banner raisings in a month and a
- 52:36Speaker 3: couple of weeks for the Knicks, and then— Boom.
- 52:39Speaker 2: We're back at it again to see if they can.
- 52:42Speaker 3: I mean, in my lifetime, we've never said the defending champion,
- 52:45Speaker 3: New York Knicks, so that'll be something new to say
- 52:48Speaker 3: in the next season.
- 52:49Speaker 1: In my lifetime, we did, but I'm much older than you.
- 52:52Speaker 2: About twice. I think two times, right? 70 and then 70.
- 52:55Speaker 1: Yes. Yes. So I think the NBA season, I hope,
- 53:01Speaker 1: the NBA season, the regular season, is a little bit
- 53:05Speaker 1: more attractive than it's been the last couple of years,
- 53:08Speaker 1: I hope.
- 53:09Speaker 2: Well, we all know what has happened.
- 53:10Speaker 3: They can't sit their starters to tank it.
- 53:15Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 53:16Speaker 1: So we'll have to get this new anti-tanking rule. So
- 53:20Speaker 1: we'll see if that makes any better. But thank you, Alex,
- 53:22Speaker 1: as always. You bet.
- 53:24Speaker 3: And maybe by the time I see you next week
- 53:25Speaker 3: on Terminals Take, the Yanks will actually be either close
- 53:29Speaker 3: to the division or actually on top of it because
- 53:31Speaker 3: I'm finding out this season anything could change. I mean,
- 53:34Speaker 3: the Yanks were seven out in August. Now they are
- 53:36Speaker 3: in September three and a half out. I mean, the
- 53:38Speaker 3: thing's happening, changing rapidly here.
- 53:40Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 53:42Speaker 1: They got to win all three games against the Rockies
- 53:44Speaker 1: at home. They can't lose not even one because that
- 53:49Speaker 1: would be unacceptable at this stage in the season.
- 53:52Speaker 3: It could, but then again, it took 10 innings to
- 53:54Speaker 3: beat the Angels, which I still don't think is acceptable either,
- 53:56Speaker 3: but they got it done. And of course, if you
- 53:58Speaker 3: like what you hear, always subscribe to us, right, Louie,

- 54:28Speaker 1: lot of people use your link.
