- 0:00Just get close to the mic, I was for fuck's sake, do your job.
- 0:02I've got hold of it in my hand, look.
- 0:04You can't do that, mate, you're fucking hell.
- 0:05You're not Michael Jackson, you're not singing.
- 0:08You've just said, I'll hold it.
- 0:11If you're happy holding it, just hold it.
- 0:13I'm alright holding it, yeah.
- 0:15Have you been golfing?
- 0:16No, I haven't golfed for three weeks now.
- 0:19Oh, you'll probably be better then.
- 0:22Must be missing yours.
- 0:23Couldn't have got any worse, to be honest.
- 0:25Now, do you know what else?
- 0:26It's just since I got that whiplash off the last, not this old old, the last one, coming off that mattress on being dragged by a speedboat, my kids shouting, go faster, go faster, and then I come off, went into the water head first, and then my legs came over my back and my head like a scorpion.
- 0:44Oh, my God.
- 0:45I'd have paid money to see that.
- 0:46Of course you would.
- 0:48I'd have paid good money to see that.
- 0:50It's not good.
- 0:52I don't go near those things.
- 0:53Anything to do with like inflatables in the water.
- 0:56Absolutely no chance.
- 0:57You clearly haven't got four kids mate and four men, four boys and they all just go on, Dad, come on, you can go on then.
- 1:02The three elder ones I can go on, obviously the six-year-old couldn't come on it.
- 1:06I'm just so happy it wasn't, it didn't happen to one of them because I genuinely think
- 1:10I might have cracked one of the vertebras in my neck.
- 1:14It's been five weeks now and I'm still in pain.
- 1:17You're not dramatic at all, are you?
- 1:19No, I'm just saying, that's what the physio said this morning.
- 1:22It's a bit extreme to have cracked one of the vertebras.
- 1:25This is some physio who's able to just look at you and tell you you've cracked a bone in your neck.
- 1:30No, he's been on it and looking at me for weeks and weeks now.
- 1:33And he just said to me, you know what?
- 1:35You could have cracked it or fractured it.
- 1:40So you tell me I broke my back.
- 1:41And he went, no, don't be so dramatic.
- 1:43But I'm just telling you what it looks like it could be.
- 1:47So, you know, it's...
- 1:48Dangerous then, though.
- 1:51I fell off a jet ski a good few years back, taking on the jet ski.
- 1:56And it was calm waters.
- 1:58So we got up to like 60k or something like that, about 40 mile an hour, isn't it?
- 2:02Literally flying.
- 2:03Yeah.
- 2:03And then there was people in the distance and I was letting him steer at the time.
- 2:06And I went, just turn a bit left, mate, because we're keeping away from them.
- 2:10Hey, don't tell your kids to turn left on a jet ski because they'll just pull the thing to the left and hard.
- 2:15And I went straight, straight off it.
- 2:18Dragged him with me trying to keep him on.
- 2:20And the pair of us fell off for about 40 miles an hour.
- 2:23And I hit the water hard and whatever was left of me, ACL completely went, snapped it there and then, hitting the water.
- 2:30So I do know the pain of coming off one of them things and I've not been anywhere near one since.
- 2:36I can't see myself going on one in the near future either.
- 2:38I've officially retired now from actions with the boys while we're on holiday.
- 2:42So yeah, it's now over.
- 2:44No more.
- 2:46Right, that's enough holiday talk.
- 2:47Where are we at?
- 2:48What's happening back at home?
- 2:50Toffees are signing players, aren't we?
- 2:52Yeah, they must have listened to us.
- 2:54We said we needed a bit of leadership, somebody to come into the middle and dictate things and we bring in Christian Norgaard.
- 3:01So what's your initial thoughts of the signing?
- 3:05Yeah, pleased.
- 3:07I think when you're losing someone like Idrissi Gaye in the middle of the pitch, I think you need that leadership.
- 3:13He is a defensive midfielder because Hackney and Garner, I think are a bit more forward thinking and box to boxy types can get...
- 3:24can get forward.
- 3:25And he's got experience.
- 3:27He's great at breaking up play.
- 3:29I don't think he's as quick as Garner and I don't think he's as quick as what Idrissa was.
- 3:34I think he gets into positions better and reads the game, sticks his foot in at the right moment.
- 3:40One of the key things is he's good in possession of the ball.
- 3:44he'll get it off the back and he'll link play and he'll fire through the lines, get, get your exciting players on the ball quicker than maybe a drisser did at times.
- 3:55So yeah, I'm, I'm pleased.
- 3:57I'm pleased it's relatively cheap in Premier League terms these days.
- 4:01I know he's into his early thirties, but yeah, I think, I think signs are good and we're bulking up, we're bulking up the squad, which, you know, everyone's always wanting to make sure you've got a good, strong squad.
- 4:12He looks like he plays maybe a lot more long balls than what we're maybe used to, not in a bad way, but they're aimed and targeted at maybe wide players or forwards.
- 4:22But we haven't really had centre-mids in the last few years who've picked the ball up from deep and looked for that direct ball.
- 4:29So I'm quite excited to see if that affects the way we play.
- 4:33I think the big thing is we haven't seen nothing really of him at Arsenal.
- 4:38We're all judging him on the phone that he's shown at Brentford.
- 4:41He's obviously captain Brentford.
- 4:42He's got an awful lot of minutes for them and not so many for Arsenal.
- 4:46So I'm hoping we see that Brentford side of him, that leader, that quality in the middle of the park.
- 4:54Losing to just a guy in the game is massive.
- 4:56The experience he has and the way he's able to...
- 4:59I don't want to say command at the midfield, but the lads are going to look to him because of the experience that he's had.
- 5:04I would think so anyway, Oz, you would know better than that than me.
- 5:06But I would imagine the likes of, you know, James, Jimmy Garner,
- 5:11and the likes of Keenan Jusby, or they were looking to them at times if to like, you know, listen, but it's not that it's new to us, but we're looking at you for a little bit of leadership.
- 5:21And I think that's where this Norgard picks up from.
- 5:24And it'll be interesting to see because they're huge boots to fill at Trissot Garnaghy's and the job that he's done at Everton this, this, this term.
- 5:33So, yeah,
- 5:34I'm looking forward to it.
- 5:35It's a step in the right direction.
- 5:36Like I say, I think it's massive.
- 5:37You need seniority in squads.
- 5:40I don't see it enough in the Premier League anymore.
- 5:42Everyone wants that young talented midfielder with sell-on value.
- 5:45And there is a place for them.
- 5:46Every club does need them players.
- 5:48But I think what's being missed now massively is bringing in that older head.
- 5:53You've seen what that can do at a place like Sunderland with Gnade Zaka.
- 5:57You can see what bringing in that older head does.
- 6:00It settles everyone down.
- 6:01It gives everyone someone to look at.
- 6:03And basically a lead.
- 6:05And I'm not saying, you know, Christian Noggo's going to be our midfielder now.
- 6:11You know, he's going to be our captain in any way, shape or form.
- 6:13But what I'm saying is, it gives them middle boys a little bit more to someone to rely on, if that makes sense.
- 6:19Yeah, well, especially because, I mean, not just the fact that Idris has left, but Seamus's voice has left the dressing room.
- 6:25So there's some big sort of holes that are in there with voices and experience and who you listen to.
- 6:31And I've said earlier that it gives opportunity for the likes of Juice Briole and Jimmy, as you were just saying.
- 6:38to grow into more senior roles.
- 6:40But there's nothing ever bad about having more experience in the dressing room.
- 6:45And that's what Norgard does in a role where, as you say, you're losing Idrissa's ability to get around the pitch.
- 6:51Because there was thought that maybe Tim Irribunum was going to be ready because out of possession, he is outstanding.
- 6:59He's one of the best in the Premier League at winning the ball back.
- 7:01If you look at his stats and his data about just competing...
- 7:04His issue is he's been up to this point one of the poorest in keeping possession, which, you know, it's frustrating when you're trying to progress the team forward.
- 7:14So if he is going to kick on in his career, that's the side he needs to sort of improve.
- 7:19Whereas Nogard gives you a little bit of everything.
- 7:22He can come in and sit.
- 7:23He can get the ball back.
- 7:24He doesn't charge around as much.
- 7:26He's more of a sit and be in the right position.
- 7:29But his production in possession is good.
- 7:32And as I said, more experience.
- 7:34Oz, how does Tim Irabunin
- 7:39change them statistics because I think he's a fantastic player I raved on him when he come in once we'd done the deal with him we obviously moved on the other kid and then he brought him in it was kind of a bit of a swap deal and everyone couldn't make sense and I think it was Lewis Dobbin who we swapped and he come in the other way
- 7:58And I just thought, and I really rate Lewis Dobbin as well, he could look like he had an awful lot of talent.
- 8:02But it reminds me, Tim Irribun reminds me of a player, and I know these are completely different in style of players, but I look at someone like Adam Ola Luckman when he was at Everton, and I look at someone like Tim Irribun right now when he was at Everton, and I just think, we let Adam Ola Luckman go way too soon in my opinion.
- 8:19I get it you know we need to go on whatever have you but I feel like Tim Iraboon could turn into another Adam Ola Luckman if he's nurtured correctly if he's how does that look as if he's brought on correctly how do you do that well they're different they're different style of players and their attributes are completely sort of different I'm just going in the way of you know what I mean
- 8:41Yeah, I'll get it.
- 8:42Luckman was sort of showing great moments of skill, but making the wrong decisions.
- 8:48And he was a little bit lightweight, and he wasn't sure he needed to bulk up a little bit.
- 8:53See him now, he's filled out brilliantly.
- 8:55He's massive.
- 8:57But he's making the right decisions.
- 8:58He's knowing when to dribble, when not to.
- 9:00He was brought on with...
- 9:02So his was more decision-making.
- 9:04Now, Therese Mabunen is...
- 9:07outstanding out of possession.
- 9:08Physical size is good.
- 9:10He doesn't need to develop that.
- 9:12There is a good chunk of decision-making about when he's trying to make the passes, but the majority of it is technique and concentration.
- 9:22So the only way you can sort of improve on that is on the training pitch and just literally...
- 9:28pass, pass, pass, pass, doing it by paying full attention.
- 9:31Then maybe trying to just train your body so that then you don't have to overly think about what you're doing.
- 9:38It becomes second nature.
- 9:39Whereas I'm not sure if his technique is good enough that he can take concentration levels down anyway.
- 9:47And then the minute he starts maybe looking at the next pass or running forward, or he's not concentrating completely on this five or 10 yard pass in front of him, then his technique lets him down.
- 9:55So
- 9:56I think he has the potential to improve, absolutely.
- 9:59But I think he has to put so much time on the trainer pitching and also in competitive games to get his decision making going in competitive moments.
- 10:10But you're right, he has got talent.
- 10:13Can he learn off the players?
- 10:15So with him being around top quality players like Jimmy, because Jimmy Garner makes very few mistakes actually on the ball.
- 10:21He does.
- 10:22He doesn't lose the ball very often when I've watched him.
- 10:24Keenan Jusby-Holl is another one.
- 10:26Keane Dues will only really lose the ball when he's looking to really dribble past a couple and go and he is brave enough to do that but when he's passing the ball and the distribution they don't really lose it them two players we've just mentioned but those are the players on the England squad who can lose the ball you know quite easily with Tim he's
- 10:44Will it be being around them players more encourages him to change his way of thinking or change his pattern of play?
- 10:50So as in, right, I know for the fact I'm not going to go for that ball right through the middle.
- 10:54I'll just go sideways.
- 10:55And that turns him into like a Jordan Henderson style player because he's obviously got all the physical attributes going backwards.
- 11:01He does everything right, like you said, going backwards.
- 11:03We just need him to brush up on going forward or ultimately just ball retention, keeping the ball.
- 11:10Yeah, that would come from... That's how I'd go about it at first.
- 11:14You'd say, you win the ball back for us, just give it to the nearest player.
- 11:18Give it to the closest player to you.
- 11:20Make it a nice, easy pass and get back in position.
- 11:23And that's how you start and then you build confidence.
- 11:25But again, I go back to...
- 11:27Everything can be improved on the trainer pitch, but you have to put the time in.
- 11:30I'm not saying he's not putting the time in, but everything can be improved on the trainer pitch.
- 11:34But he may have a level.
- 11:36He may have a moment where he literally cannot get any better with regards to decision-making and passing.
- 11:42Then you find a level.
- 11:43But at the minute, he's still relatively young.
- 11:46He's still got a lot of his career left and a lot of time to grow.
- 11:51But he can't.
- 11:51So having the likes of Norgaard in there will help him.
- 11:55Raise standards all around, especially if he's a voice, especially if he's talking and he's coming in and you demand things off certain people.
- 12:01Because I think I got better because people expected a lot and people demand a lot of you in training.
- 12:08And if you don't, there's no thought of...
- 12:11If you don't deliver, there's no thought of, ah, well, I'll maybe do it next time.
- 12:14The senior players around me were going, oh, yeah.
- 12:17You're better than that.
- 12:18What players do you feel like that?
- 12:19We're doing that to you.
- 12:20I'm giving you that.
- 12:23When you think straight away players off top of your head.
- 12:26Stubbsy would do it, but in a moaning, stop being rubbish, stop being bad.
- 12:32Davey, he'd shout at me and blame me for everything.
- 12:35He couldn't put a pass five yards away from Stubbsy and everything was your fault, honestly.
- 12:41But it demanded that you make it right because otherwise he's going to call me out as a trainer.
- 12:46So I've got to be back on all of that.
- 12:49And David Weir would just look at me with this face and say, Oz, you're better than that, come on.
- 12:56And I literally just felt like I was getting punched in the gut when Big Dave would give me that face, tell me I need to be better than that.
- 13:02I'd be like, I've let him down again.
- 13:04I've let him down.
- 13:05What about midfielders you played with us?
- 13:07What about midfielders you played with?
- 13:11the centre-halves aren't the most comfortable on the ball in that era Stubbsy was very good on the ball by the way big Davey Weirder I love Davey he's brilliant but they weren't part of the era we're in now football and centre-halves but Stubbsy to be fair to him was a bit of an exception Stubbsy was very good on the ball and could strike a ball unbelievably well Alan Stubbs but I'm not like the midfielders you were playing with when they come to Everton and you were already established at Everton so what was the like was there anyone hey you come on that's got to be better who was doing that
- 13:42Well, Lee Carsley to start with, because he was the senior player.
- 13:46You tend to get more senior players doing it to you, unless you then get to a level where you find yourselves pretty even.
- 13:54Because the midfielders that came in after that, I mean, Tommy Graveson was already there.
- 13:59Then there was, it grew to be Arteta, Cale, Fellaini less so, because he struggled to pass it straight himself.
- 14:09So he was never demanded stuff like that.
- 14:11But, yeah, but, you know, quality player.
- 14:14Darren Gibson could pass the ball brilliantly.
- 14:17Honestly, his passing range was brilliant.
- 14:19So that kind of makes you want to get better.
- 14:21But I remember, you know, demanding it off myself because I was good at dribbling and I was good at short passing, but I wasn't amazing at long passing.
- 14:28In fact, I was pretty poor at long passing when I was 18 to 22.
- 14:33I became okay at it by the end of my career, but I wasn't exceptional at it.
- 14:36It wasn't natural.
- 14:37But I went and...
- 14:39practiced on my own for ages around the side of the training ground and stuff.
- 14:45And then asked Hibbo, because Hibbo was one of the best I could see of striking a ball back when we were teenagers.
- 14:51So I used to like pick his brains on, where do you have your foot at the moment?
- 14:54What do you do?
- 14:55And make him come and pass pause with me, left foot, right foot, trying to do real long passes.
- 14:59And that was just me, no coaches involved, talking to another player about something I knew he was very good at, because I wanted to be good at that too.
- 15:07So when you come back to the likes of the whole talk where we come from, how you demand out of people, you've got to demand it from yourself.
- 15:13You've got to want to get better in certain areas of your own game.
- 15:19Otherwise, you know, coaches can't always make that for you.
- 15:21You want to be the best.
- 15:23The best, like let's say Cristiano Ronaldo say, he's made himself brilliant at everything by putting the work in at everything.
- 15:31And that's how you have to do it.
- 15:34Are you happy with Everton's midfield options now?
- 15:36Do you think that's us for the window in that area?
- 15:41Central midfield, definitely.
- 15:44I think we'd all like another exciting winger, one that is going to get your goals.
- 15:49I mean, Jack Grealish coming back is still a hot topic.
- 15:53Fingers crossed.
- 15:54Yeah, wouldn't mind a new striker.
- 15:56What if we see the best of Dibble?
- 15:57Not that I'm saying these can't get better.
- 15:59He's Dibble on the answer if we see the best of him.
- 16:02Well, there's a debate because I'm saying we want a new winger, but if Tyler Dibblen, as you say, steps up and becomes the player, the project that we signed, the development player that can really step up and show it, then that's like a new sign.
- 16:18We've got George Back who was showing flashes of potential last year and if he can step up... Like him.
- 16:24Yeah, and I think there's real opportunity for these young kids to have what we call like a break, a breakout year, really sort of say to the manager, this is my position now.
- 16:35If you're going to sign someone, you sign them somewhere else because this is my position for the next five years.
- 16:40I'm making it known, this is me.
- 16:42But you have to perform.
- 16:43Yes, people will argue.
- 16:45Yes.
- 16:46that you have to have a run of games to show the manager what you can do.
- 16:49But you have to show the manager that you're kind of ready to get that run of games.
- 16:52And I'm chomping at the bit and there's no way you can't pick me.
- 16:55That's how you sort of get in the team.
- 16:56I'm playing that well in reserve games or training or when I come on for five minutes here, the calls are going to be too big.
- 17:04You can't leave me out.
- 17:06I don't think any of them done that last year.
- 17:08Are they all doing this in pre-season?
- 17:10Are they all on the, I mean, how much, how much is what they're doing in pre-season appealing to the gaffer?
- 17:17Like, how much is he going right?
- 17:18It's hard to judge.
- 17:20It's hard to judge because you're all at different levels of development and fitness and getting through and, you know, if you're,
- 17:29Game is all about your sharpness and you're not doing sharp, hungry of those drills until the last 10 days of pre-season training.
- 17:36You're not going to be able to show your best in them moments.
- 17:40But I think pre-season for experienced players is about getting through it, getting your body ready.
- 17:44But when I was in the youth team, pre-season is a real opportunity to show the manager.
- 17:49Just so the manager, you make sure at the end of pre-season, and I'm going back to any 18-year-olds that are with the squad.
- 17:55At the end of pre-season, make sure the manager knows your name.
- 17:58And you're only going to do that by performing in front of him.
- 18:01And then for the likes of Diblin and that, make sure that the manager has now got a real decision.
- 18:06You've shown enough that the manager's now trying to play you.
- 18:08So we've got a few of them, players that could come in and really make a difference.
- 18:14But it's...
- 18:16It's on the manager to give them opportunities, but it's mostly on the players to perform when they get their moments and get their times.
- 18:21And it's not easy.
- 18:23Yeah, I was going to say, is it a risk to put that much pressure on Dibble given he hasn't really performed to the level that we maybe expected last season?
- 18:33No, it's not a risk.
- 18:34Like, I would expect, having spent a year at Everton now, he knows sort of the demands, the physical nature of what's going to be asked of his position.
- 18:43He can't just...
- 18:45So this pre-season, if last pre-season he was just getting through it because he thought he doesn't usually run that much at Southampton.
- 18:51They get him the ball and it's great.
- 18:54I hope he realised last season I'm going to have to work a lot harder pre-season because I need to get my body ready so that I can work out of position as well.
- 19:00And that's where all the work sort of gets done in pre-season for your out of position work.
- 19:05So hopefully he's seen that.
- 19:07Hopefully he's got himself ready because we've potentially got an outstanding young player in Dublin that can step up.
- 19:16But...
- 19:17these players have to, yes, probably give him games.
- 19:20I mean, first five or six games, if he's not starting, I would be hoping he's getting 25 minutes each game, coming on, getting moments, flashing for us.
- 19:30And then it's up to him from there to say, well, you know what, you've played that well, I can't leave you out.
- 19:35That's how football works.
- 19:36The way Keenan Hughes beat all, but just flew onto the scene, it's like he just hit the ground running straight away.
- 19:43I thought he was doing it last season.
- 19:44Yeah, but Keenan's in a different part of his career.
- 19:46I know, that's what I'm saying.
- 19:47I get it.
- 19:47He was at Chelsea.
- 19:48No, he's developed.
- 19:48He's ready.
- 19:50He was pretty much the finished article by the time he came.
- 19:52He was ready to go.
- 19:54Whereas Tyler's right at the start of his career, still.
- 19:58Yeah, he's played a few games.
- 19:59But he was schneing and now he was at Southampton.
- 20:01And is that because at Southampton it was a level below the championship?
- 20:05And does that play a big factor?
- 20:07He played in the Premier League as well.
- 20:08The fitness level's the same.
- 20:11Pretty much, yeah.
- 20:13I think the Premier League is sharper and best.
- 20:16I think everyone is a ridiculous athlete nowadays.
- 20:21And he was flashing at the start with regards to what he could show in the championship up against those players.
- 20:30I just think that he has the capability to do it.
- 20:33I just think at Southampton at the time, he was sitting sort of in that role where they just, you just don't do anything out of possession, but just give you the ball.
- 20:40Try and take people on 10 times.
- 20:42If you're successful, once, maybe twice, you'll get a huge round of applause because you get a little more lenience because you're a young lad.
- 20:49Homegrown, you get more lenience.
- 20:51And then...
- 20:52because you're actually showing brilliance twice out of ten, one in five, we'll love you.
- 20:58But when you come to Everton, one in five's not enough.
- 21:01If you're going to give the world away four times and you've got it, that's not enough.
- 21:04You have to get closer to, as a winger, three in five, whereas you get the ball five times, you create things three times.
- 21:11You certainly don't lose the ball.
- 21:13And that's where he needs to sort of get into a position where he's doing that for us.
- 21:19He strikes me as a confidence player.
- 21:21I think if he gets one or two good games under his belt early doors, we could really see a different Diblin.
- 21:26Yeah, yeah, probably.
- 21:28I hope so.
- 21:29I hope so.
- 21:31And I hope it's settled.
- 21:32Feels a bit better being up here now, that first big move away from your family, away from your home, away from your friends.
- 21:38You forget how young he is.
- 21:39You're settled, yeah.
- 21:41Moving across the country where you've now suddenly, instead of going home to your mum's for your tea every day,
- 21:46Suddenly you're going into this empty flat where you've now got to learn how to cook.
- 21:50You've got to learn out where the shops are.
- 21:52You've got to, you know, all this kind of stuff that we all did when you move into your first house.
- 21:56Some of us might have moved into our first, I think I was 22 when I moved into my first house.
- 22:00He's 19, moving not only into a new house, which I was 10 minutes away from my mum and dad's, but he's across the country.
- 22:07So these things aren't always taken into account because you're paying so much for a young kid, but...
- 22:13Should that be put down to an agent or the agent should be going, right, I'm going to make sure you're comfortable.
- 22:17I'm going to have someone with you, you know, whichever way he does it.
- 22:21They, he should have had someone come with him to make him feel comfortable to be around him.
- 22:26And I, and I blame agents for that because they're all well and good taking the money and making the money.
- 22:31Make sure your client is perfect.
- 22:34Make sure he's as comfortable as possible.
- 22:36You're basically saying his agent should buy him a friend.
- 22:39Like, no, not buy him a friend.
- 22:41I was not buying a friend, but I'm sure he's got close friends.
- 22:46And of course the boy's got close friends.
- 22:49So, you know, a couple of your friends are coming up with you.
- 22:51I'm going to make sure that I'm going to put them in a position where they're up there and they're staying or whatever.
- 22:55I'm just speaking out loud of, if I was an agent, that's what I'd do.
- 22:59I'd want to make my players come up.
- 23:02And if not, I'll go and stay with them for a bit.
- 23:04Because I'm his agent.
- 23:06I'm this boy's right hand.
- 23:08I'll stay with you.
- 23:09I'll make sure you're sick.
- 23:09I'll make sure you're looking.
- 23:10I'll make sure you're happy.
- 23:11I'll turn up at training because an agent can.
- 23:14So, you know, that's what I would be doing if I was his agent.
- 23:16But I'm just speaking out loud.
- 23:19I'm not an agent.
- 23:19I've got no intentions of it.
- 23:21But isn't that... Am I saying the wrong things?
- 23:24No.
- 23:25No, well, there's ways of looking at it.
- 23:27So, you know, a football club could try and do that.
- 23:31A football club could try and find a way of making your...
- 23:34your move easier, whether they, you know, get a club personnel to, to pick you up every day or whatever it might be.
- 23:42You could do it from an agent's point, but you're saying like, if an agent's got a wife and three kids and lives in London, and now you move to,
- 23:50Liverpool an agent card just said see you love see you love kids I'm going to go live with players for a bunch well I'm sorry no I'm going to go and stay with him for a week and I'm going to make sure he's comfortable I'm going to make sure he's happy I'm sorry this is part of the job so yeah I do expect that because you're being paid enough
- 24:06You can for a week, but you're talking about a lad moving across the country for years.
- 24:12Of course.
- 24:12You can't be with them for the whole year.
- 24:14They have to learn how to grow up on their own.
- 24:16Of course, but a start has been put down to the fact that he's struggling away from home.
- 24:21He's struggling, you know, he's missing his normal life and stuff like that.
- 24:23So I just look at this.
- 24:25I'm not sure exactly, but I think his parents may have gone with him, certainly for a short spell.
- 24:29I would imagine he probably have, but that's the story, that's the narrative that gets put to us as fans.
- 24:33The kid's struggling, he moved away from home.
- 24:35Well,
- 24:36get people to make it better for them as agents, whatever have you.
- 24:41It's clear for us all to see this kid's a player.
- 24:44And at what moment is it that he's not being a player that we've bought?
- 24:49Because whatever it is, whether it's the agent, whether it's the club, help this kid because by helping this kid, he's going to help us.
- 24:57And that for me is the big thing.
- 24:59I think it could go down as simply as youth and Everton is a big club.
- 25:04The pressure is different.
- 25:05And I think once you've had that season to let those nerves settle, I think we'll see a different Tyler Dibble in this season.
- 25:11I'm really hopeful of it.
- 25:12I think also on the best friend thing, he's best mate to Tyreek George around the training ground.
- 25:17So that could also be really helpful having those two together.
- 25:21Moving on, Ozzy, you said that...
- 25:23maybe you want to look at one more centre-forward to bring in.
- 25:27The rumours are going round and round with Charleston coming back.
- 25:30Is there anybody else out there who you're fancying?
- 25:35I don't know because it's difficult to find strikers.
- 25:39Would I have him back?
- 25:41Yeah, I would have him back.
- 25:44Absolutely.
- 25:46He's quite injury-prone, isn't he, now, which is not ideal.
- 25:49He's got a few other things, but...
- 25:52You know, just seeing some of the stuff, he bloody loves Everton still, doesn't he?
- 25:57He shows it all the time.
- 26:00Some of the shithousery stuff that he does, I love as well.
- 26:04Really.
- 26:04Fantastic.
- 26:05Give him a medal.
- 26:08Did you see him celebrating when Argentina got beat, sliding across his living room, sliding across his floor in his house?
- 26:13Did he?
- 26:14I hadn't seen it.
- 26:15Brilliant.
- 26:16As a Brazilian, he was...
- 26:18Just while you're on Argentina.
- 26:19Have you seen what they've done, by the way?
- 26:21Made National Football Day.
- 26:23National Football Day on the 15th of July, because he beats England on that day.
- 26:26So that's like a calendar.
- 26:27Yeah, National Football Teams Day or something like that.
- 26:29They'll celebrate them every year.
- 26:32How wild's that?
- 26:33Correct.
- 26:34I know.
- 26:35So I'm with you now.
- 26:36It says a lot.
- 26:38I've jumped ship from the Germany hatred.
- 26:41I hate them now.
- 26:42There you go.
- 26:43Always trust on Gazi.
- 26:44We'll get our own back.
- 26:45When the little maestro's not on the pitch, we'll have our own back.
- 26:47But anyway, Richie, carry on.
- 26:50Yeah, I would have him back.
- 26:53He does seem to know where the goal is.
- 26:55He's a fighter.
- 26:57He's one of those players, as we know, that you hate playing against him.
- 27:01You hate him if he's not on your team, but you love him when he is on your team.
- 27:06And...
- 27:07I would take him back.
- 27:08It'd only be a short-term deal.
- 27:10Again, I wouldn't be overpaying for him.
- 27:12It would have to sort of fall into our lap.
- 27:14But I don't think you can ever have too many striker options.
- 27:17I really don't.
- 27:17I've got one for you.
- 27:19I've got one for you.
- 27:20Here's one.
- 27:21And he's cop-eyed to throw on this at me.
- 27:23What's your thoughts on Gabriel Jesus?
- 27:25Because he's gone.
- 27:27If you could get him, I definitely would.
- 27:31I personally don't know if he's the answer, but who are you taking, Gabriel Jesus or Richie?
- 27:38For us, probably... Because I think they both score the same amount of goals.
- 27:41Probably Richie, you know.
- 27:43I agree.
- 27:44I don't know, in the way we play and the way we have our wide men and our number 10s, I'm not sure.
- 27:50I always think we need a big physical, or at least a guy that can hold his own physically up at the top of the pitch.
- 27:58And Jesus wouldn't really play up against centre-half.
- 28:02Do you know what my reasoning is, with Richie over Jesus?
- 28:05Yeah.
- 28:06I just think if you don't score double the amount of double figures in goals at City and at Arsenal, you're never going to do it at Everton.
- 28:14And I need a forward that's going to get double figure goals.
- 28:17I need a forward that's going to get 20 goals.
- 28:19And I just think even though Richie's not going to get you 20 goals, I'll tell you what, if he starts every week at Everton, I'll guarantee he'll get 15 or more.
- 28:27It might not be 20, but it'll be 15.
- 28:30because he's horrible.
- 28:32He just gets in.
- 28:33He knows where the net is.
- 28:35He's doing the right things.
- 28:36He's giving little kicks out.
- 28:37He's annoying people.
- 28:39He's just at it.
- 28:40And I just think with Jesus, as much as he's a talented footballer and as good as he is,
- 28:46I just don't feel he's the answer.
- 28:48I don't know why to say he's not, because he's a fantastic player, Brazilian international, great player, but I just don't feel he's doing anything.
- 28:56Yeah, I think, yeah, although he's definitely not the fittest article, I don't know if you'd get him, but I'd still try and get the lap.
- 29:02I think he might be decent for us, someone who can, his only issue is his, seemingly his anger issues on the pitch or his disciplinary record.
- 29:12Is he that bad?
- 29:15He can, he loses his head in moments, doesn't he?
- 29:17And kicks out or can he get sent off?
- 29:20So did Boazza.
- 29:21Didn't start doing that then, but...
- 29:22I think we'd buy into all that, us.
- 29:24I think we'd buy into it.
- 29:25Okay, now you've seen the players we've had in the past.
- 29:27Buy into it, Jesus Christ.
- 29:28We'd make him an icon.
- 29:30No, we love it.
- 29:34The price tag of Liam De Lape, though, could be a stumbling block.
- 29:37Yeah, they want a laugh for him.
- 29:40I think that all depended on if Illumann stayed or went.
- 29:43I think you're getting Liam De Lape if Illumann goes, and I think if Illumann stays, I don't think you're getting...
- 29:48Liam Dallap I think Tiano Barry started showing a little bit during pre-season I think he's I'd say it's hard to judge completely during pre-season but he's just he's been okay he's not looked out of place he's done a good job so hopefully I talked about the developments of some of the younger kids he's
- 30:07in that bracket, young, been away from home, different country, for the first time, maybe this is a season where he'll kick on.
- 30:15So there's potential for that.
- 30:17You hope.
- 30:18And that would be ideal for us.
- 30:20Yeah, I still think we need somebody.
- 30:22We can hang our hat on, though.
- 30:25Because it's a constant discussion.
- 30:27Is it Beto, Barry?
- 30:27Are they going to perform or are they not?
- 30:30I think we need a striker who we say, right, he's our number nine.
- 30:33We know exactly what we're getting from him.
- 30:35How much does it affect a player, a forward player?
- 30:38One week he's on, one week he's off, one week... And that's what we got.
- 30:41We seen with Beto and Barry last season.
- 30:42How much does that affect the forward?
- 30:45You're coming off a pitch, right?
- 30:47And you know you haven't done the best.
- 30:48You know you're getting dropped next week.
- 30:51How is that?
- 30:51Is it good for competition?
- 30:53Is it making them fight every week?
- 30:55Is that good?
- 30:56Well, it's not always week to week.
- 30:59Sometimes they get a run of four or five games.
- 31:01But even with... And then they'll swap over.
- 31:04But even within that...
- 31:06They generally know they're going to get subbed after 65 minutes.
- 31:09Between 60 and 70 minutes, that's just going to be a general swap.
- 31:13And you can see it on their faces at times.
- 31:14And I went through a period, especially when I was starting off,
- 31:19where you look into the bench after an hour and you see the manager's ready to make a change and you just know you're going to be the one coming off because it's a standard change.
- 31:27And it is frustrating because you've still got a lot to give.
- 31:31You've still got fitness left that you can do.
- 31:34You know you've not played badly, but you might not have scored every week.
- 31:38And you can see it on their faces at times when the board goes up and they know it's just them always coming off.
- 31:45But...
- 31:46The only thing you could do is try and get a goal, try and get an assist, make sure when these opportunities come your way, you're actually producing, performing, getting the numbers.
- 31:55And then you say to the manager, you need to stop bringing me off.
- 31:58I can score goals in the last part of the game, like I did at the start of the game.
- 32:01Stop bringing me off.
- 32:02But if you say you got 65 minutes in and...
- 32:05we've struggled to get a few shots or you've missed a few chances then it's it's an inevitable change.
- 32:10Do you know when that happened for you and he stopped taking it off?
- 32:13At what moment in your game was it at that moment where obviously you were the player that started to make a difference, started to make a change throughout the game?
- 32:22Is that when he went right?
- 32:23Yeah but you know I think it was... You see where he went, I'm not bringing you off no more because you're a starter for me, you're one of the main ones.
- 32:29I think it was a developer.
- 32:31It was either, you know, you do start actually doing things on a regular basis or when you're up in on, you look pretty strong towards the end of the game because you've been running around showing, look how fit I am.
- 32:41I've got loads of energy left to give.
- 32:43But I think it was just a progression.
- 32:45It was like...
- 32:46Once I stopped being one of the younger ones in the team, it was, you know, they're the ones that are going to get took off.
- 32:53Or once I started moving centrally, your wide men tend to get took off first because you want more bursts from them or your forwards.
- 33:00So it depends on what position on the pitch you play.
- 33:03but also how experienced you come.
- 33:06I think as more experience you get, the more options, the more opportunities you get to stay on.
- 33:10I think at what stage these players become, because you became kind of a lieutenant for them.
- 33:15You're in the midfield.
- 33:17You're starting every week.
- 33:18You're starting.
- 33:19You're one of the first names on the team sheet.
- 33:21And I just think at what stage does it?
- 33:24will a Barry or a Beto get to that stage?
- 33:26And if they did, what are they going to have to do?
- 33:28Are they going to have to score five, six games in a row?
- 33:30Ten games in a row?
- 33:31Are they going to have to score 15 goals in a series?
- 33:33What are they going to have to do to show that they belong?
- 33:36It's a feeling, isn't it?
- 33:38At the minute, we're not quite sure, especially going off last year, Beto and Barry, I don't think any of us as fans are quite sure week to week who's going to start because of what we're seeing from them and the performances we're seeing from them.
- 33:51Yes, they'll have moments where they score and they'll have flashes where they've got a goal here and a goal there.
- 33:56But generally, we're going through the season thinking, it could be either of them.
- 34:00It's a feeling of when we know, they'll know, if you understand what I'm trying to say, there'll come a moment where if one of them is performing well enough, we'll know they're playing next week because they're performing well enough.
- 34:12Before you know it, they're performing well on that regular of a basis that we know that's our number nine.
- 34:17That's our centre forward.
- 34:18and we don't know we can't work out have we made a decision on either of them yeah as fans yeah
- 34:27I think some fans pushed towards Beto didn't they because Barry had a little bit of an incident didn't he with his family sitting in the Arsenal end I think but that's not down to play on the pitch that's not football is it I just think I think the two different players I genuinely I think Beto's the one who's going to run the channels and he's going to Beto's the worker Beto's the absolute grafter I think I think Barry does do a bit but I think his work rate and his
- 34:57There's force in it.
- 34:59It is the lesser side of his game.
- 35:00Whereas Barry's is...
- 35:02I think he might be the quicker finisher.
- 35:04I think he might be the quicker player.
- 35:06And the one who's a little bit more dangerous.
- 35:09Whereas Beto is...
- 35:11He's at you.
- 35:11He's in your face.
- 35:12He's getting stuck into you.
- 35:14He does all the jobs.
- 35:16A bit like...
- 35:17A bit like Dennis Oz, I guess, Strach.
- 35:21Big Strach, yeah.
- 35:22A bit like him.
- 35:23It's not the best comparison for him, is it?
- 35:25No, I know, but I'm just trying to say it in terms of what he gives you.
- 35:28Because every player's got attributes, every player's got strengths, every player's got weaknesses.
- 35:32And Beto's strengths are, you know what, he just puts it, physically he puts it on you and he gets stuck into you.
- 35:37He does.
- 35:38But where Barry doesn't do that much, Barry's not really about that.
- 35:41He does a little bit and he can't half-jump, Barry.
- 35:44He surprises me by how high he can get into the air.
- 35:48I don't know his actual heading is as good as it should be directionally.
- 35:53He can flick it on, okay, but directing them towards goal.
- 35:57But you're right, Beto's a lot more physical than...
- 36:00than Siena who can come and twist and turn with the ball.
- 36:03Doesn't always know where it is, but could come and get the ball a little bit better.
- 36:08But I'm hoping that Barry's going to develop and going to improve.
- 36:13But if we, if we want to get where we expect us to be, which is certainly competing for Europe every year into that kind of bracket,
- 36:24then there are a few positions on the pitch that we probably need to continue to improve on.
- 36:29And that's one of them.
- 36:30I don't think there's any doubt about that.
- 36:32Yeah, that's fair.
- 36:33Yeah, I don't think it's a case of losing one of them.
- 36:35I think we just need to add to the amount of forwards that we've got and bring in a bit of extra quality and let them back out.
- 36:40That's just to say, if we did bring in Liam DeLapp,
- 36:44or we brought in a Gabriel Jesus, and they score 15 goals in a season.
- 36:49You know they're starting every week, so them two aren't going to stay there.
- 36:52One of them will, but two of them won't.
- 36:53So you're going to be losing one.
- 36:55That's how football works all the time.
- 36:56Of course it does.
- 36:57But my theory, what I'm asking these questions for, is quite simply, is who are you keeping, and who are you letting go?
- 37:03If you're the centre-half right now, who do you want to see walking up on that pitch against you?
- 37:07Do you want to see Beto, or do you want to see Barry?
- 37:08Yeah.
- 37:10Which one do you want?
- 37:11Which one are you?
- 37:12Which one do you?
- 37:12Because I know where Javan like one is he wants Paddy.
- 37:15Yeah, right now I don't care.
- 37:19You're on a sense of half soft ass.
- 37:21But I'm just saying right now I don't think right now I don't think either of them have done enough that a centre half really care.
- 37:28That's the issue.
- 37:30I'm not sure about that.
- 37:31I think if Erj van Dijk, Beto's given him a little bit of a tough time, hasn't he, the last couple of games.
- 37:39He's the best he's done in the league, isn't he?
- 37:41So that's how I judge it off.
- 37:43Shut up.
- 37:44Well, at the moment, at the moment, you know,
- 37:49it's Gabriel Osaliba innit it is Gabriel Osaliba so but you know getting around to the point of when these top defenders walk on a pitch and they walk on they're like fucking Adonis they walk on looking like the big fella and I just think when our foes walk on the pitch I think oh I can't be dealing with him again I'm just not in the mood for him today and I just don't feel that many players give off that kind of
- 38:15order anymore.
- 38:16You know what I'm saying?
- 38:17Whereas, when Harland walks on a pitch, everyone's shitting themselves.
- 38:20Well, I'm shitting myself in the stand, to be honest, when he walks on a pitch.
- 38:23I'm just thinking, you know, he better behave himself in today.
- 38:25I just don't need the headache of him.
- 38:27Now, if I'm sitting, if I'm seeing that from a hundred rows up in the stand, imagine how they're feeling that sense of everything.
- 38:33Fuck's sake.
- 38:34I mean, just look at the size of him, I'm not getting in a race.
- 38:37I'm not beating him in a race.
- 38:37I'm not beating him in a jump.
- 38:38I'm not, like,
- 38:40I want my bulls to just... See, you won't have come up against that very often because you're six foot one or two or whatever you are.
- 38:48You know what I want, you little midget.
- 38:49I'm six foot three.
- 38:50Don't try and steal inches off me and put them on yourself.
- 38:55So, but you wouldn't have stood next to many people where you stood next to them and then you're looking up at them and going, I'm in for a tough day or you're bleeding.
- 39:06I wouldn't like to come up against that.
- 39:07You do not have spot.
- 39:09That was every single week at every single time.
- 39:11I've got all over 100 rounds with David Price mates and being punched.
- 39:14And he is one of the hardest punches this country has ever produced.
- 39:18And I've been punched and knocked round off him for years.
- 39:21Don't talk to me about looking up at people and thinking.
- 39:23I know you look up at everybody and think, oh, I don't need this.
- 39:26Every single tunnel in the Premier League, I was stood there looking up at who I'm going to have to take on today.
- 39:32So I got used to that feeling.
- 39:34That's all right.
- 39:36The worst was generally Chelsea.
- 39:39Honestly, back in that mid-noughties moment, every single one of them was absolutely massive.
- 39:48I was only coming up to armpits at times, you know, like stood next to someone.
- 39:51Who's the worst of physically?
- 39:53I'm pretty sure people thought I was a mascot.
- 39:55Who was the strongest to come up against?
- 39:56Just thought, there's nothing I can do with you.
- 40:00it's tough that because it's tough that because I never no it is because I made sure I never got close enough to anyone that they could use their physicality on me I just try and keep away and jump in and jump out if you know what I mean like people with
- 40:17People with long legs were the worst because you'd think you'd got away from them and you'd think you'd skipped past them.
- 40:22And the next thing, this big long leg had come from nowhere and sort of tore the ball away from you.
- 40:28That was always the most frustrating.
- 40:30Gerrard's done you a couple of times.
- 40:32Say that again.
- 40:33Gerrard's done you a couple of times.
- 40:35No, I thought that's what you said.
- 40:39He's kicked him a few times the loss.
- 40:41No, he's definitely kicked him a few times.
- 40:43I've witnessed it.
- 40:45Well, I don't think I've played on the pitch with anyone, really, that I've not been kicked by or kicked back.
- 40:50No, I know that, but I'm saying when someone's got into your thoughts, you're walking on a pitch and you just think, what I'm saying, like getting to the point of when they're walking with Harlan, who have you walked on with those?
- 41:01last time I played him this was a ball league don't need this again the one who used to always was there Essien Michael Essien for Chelsea honestly he left some bad challenges on me I've heard that before from other players I'd be thinking ref come on look after it he was a lovely fella and I'd be getting up off the floor thinking he's nearly broke my leg he did on purpose and I'd turn and Hibbo would be going it's your own fault that lad left yourself open there
- 41:30I'm like, come on, I'm all.
- 41:31Oh, I'm all being a nice boy.
- 41:34Yeah, I'm sure he would be nice to you, Tony, at Soccer Aid.
- 41:37Oh, you're sad.
- 41:38He got little Oz against him.
- 41:42Michael Essien was a top player.
- 41:44Hard player in.
- 41:46Top, top level player.
- 41:47But I just think about the likes of Gerrard and Lampard.
- 41:51Big, big physical specimens who get around so well.
- 41:54Not so much tackling from Lampard, but he's still competing with you in every way.
- 42:00Yeah, well, top players, that's why they had the numbers that they did.
- 42:03That's why they scored the goals that they did.
- 42:05That's why they had the careers they did and players long as they did because they had all the attributes that you need to be the best and they could strike a ball well.
- 42:14Technique was good.
- 42:15They had great mentality.
- 42:17They had brilliant vision and idea of decision-making.
- 42:20Decision-making is key.
- 42:22So other people...
- 42:24If you've not got all that, you're always making up for stuff.
- 42:27Like Dennis Wise was a brilliant footballer, but he was small and wasn't as quick.
- 42:31So he was always fighting a losing, he would fight a losing battle against as good a player as he was.
- 42:36If he come up against Gerrard, he'd have to win in a different way.
- 42:39Gerrard uses pace and power because he had all of that.
- 42:43How good was Giggs Oz when you played against him?
- 42:46Brilliant, yeah.
- 42:48Like, arguably the best left winger that played in the Premier League.
- 42:54It's quite hard to debate that, actually.
- 42:56Yeah, keep hold of that.
- 42:57Talking of great careers, Mo Salah, he's now left the Prem, he's gone to Traps on Spur on a free, which is a bit of a surprise going to the Turkish League.
- 43:05But where does he fit in terms of best wide players in the Premier League?
- 43:10So you've got gigs in there, like you've just said.
- 43:12and a few other great players, Hazard, Ronaldo.
- 43:16What do you think, Oz?
- 43:19Well, to start, when you're talking about a Giggs, Giggs played left midfield of like a 4-4-2, so he's a left winger stroke left midfielder, whereas Salah and even Gareth Bale as he moved on, they all moved over to play it differently as left-footed, but right-wingers.
- 43:41So you sort of now consider them right-wingers.
- 43:44It's...
- 43:46I think you have to put them all into one bracket in terms of whether you play off the left or whether you play off the right.
- 43:51As you're saying, you're a Hazard or if you're even a Mane, who Salah obviously played with for a long time.
- 43:58And once you start doing that, wow, it's an incredible array of players that you're talking about.
- 44:07Just the ones that you just named.
- 44:08Is Salah the best winger to play in the Premier League ever?
- 44:11Yeah.
- 44:12See, I don't think so.
- 44:15And I'm not talking in a biased way.
- 44:18I don't think so.
- 44:20However, when you listen to the likes of...
- 44:23So I heard when Salah left, I think it was something that Steven Gerrard did.
- 44:29And he was ranking him in regards of where he is as a Liverpool sort of player.
- 44:35And he had him higher than himself and he had him higher than Ian Rush even.
- 44:39And he had him just below Kenny Daglish.
- 44:41And I've got to respect what his opinion is there because he's played with him, he's seen him up close.
- 44:49If he didn't play with him, he's seen him up close, watched him for years.
- 44:53And his numbers are outstanding.
- 44:56Like, his goals and his assists are a joke.
- 44:59But I always... You know, you compare them to these other people.
- 45:02I always look at Salah and think...
- 45:03I always think like he's... 50% of the time, he's missed kicking it.
- 45:0650% of the time, he's getting them in off his heels.
- 45:10Or he's missing a pass.
- 45:11Or he's giving the ball away.
- 45:13Or...
- 45:14As I say, he's trying things and again, giving the ball away.
- 45:17So then if I'm actually comparing him technically to all the other players, he doesn't get into the same bracket technically as...
- 45:27as a Hazard or a Giggs or the other unbelievable left wingers or right wingers that I'm probably missing off the top of my head.
- 45:35But there's something about his numbers that have got him where he is and his numbers alone are an absolute joke.
- 45:42So he's obviously in the conversation, but he's not technically as good as the other players around him.
- 45:46It's a strange sort of position I find myself trying to debate of how I feel about Mo Salah.
- 45:52I don't think technically he's as good as John Barnes.
- 45:55I think technically John Barnes is better than Mo Salah, but ultimately his numbers don't compare anywhere near close.
- 45:59So football is such a statistical driven game these days.
- 46:03Everything's about stats or that assist or that assist.
- 46:06But years ago, it was about players who make a difference, who change a game and you can't,
- 46:14no one can sit here and say Mo Salah hasn't done that while he's been at Liverpool.
- 46:17Every year, year in, year out, he's just scored a record amount of goals.
- 46:21He's phenomenal.
- 46:21I don't think no one will ever compare to Steven Gerrard, if I'm being totally honest.
- 46:25I'm obviously too young to remember Kenny Adlice's days, and people tell me, listen, he was just the king.
- 46:31That was the end of it.
- 46:33But I don't know enough, even though I know Kenny was a legend and a great player.
- 46:36If I'd seen enough, that might be different.
- 46:38But from what I've seen from Steven Gerrard, I mean, that horror has broke my heart on many of occasions, mate.
- 46:44and I've seen them do things that no one could that I can't even put into context like I genuinely believe it's him I think him or Wayne Rooney the greatest players this country's ever produced
- 46:58And the only reason I tip to Wazza this is because Wazza can finish better than Steven Gerrard.
- 47:04But Steven Gerrard, one thing I will say is Steven Gerrard is the greatest leader this country's ever seen.
- 47:10Because that man single-handedly, what he done in 2005, that horror bag, it changed everything.
- 47:17I will never get over that day I will never you will never see that again that team that beat them on paper they had no right to even be on that pitch do you understand what they do and it was what he done he done it it wasn't just that game that was the year he scored the last minute screamer against Calatasseroy to actually get them out the group stages he's just a freak he's a freak
- 47:44he's a freak no one okay he's the greatest lip player ever i think he's been very nice to salah saying that salas are he's very he's obviously a very humble he had salary above rush as well though which i found incredible he had salary above i do i do get the rush one how well i know he's like 350 goals i know as i know but it's what sal has actually done in that how many how many goals
- 48:10In that time, I bet he didn't create half as many as Salah.
- 48:13Well, before the Premier League started, they didn't do things like assists.
- 48:18They didn't keep records of them.
- 48:19You just called that setting a goal up.
- 48:22Well done, please.
- 48:23Believe it or not, there is perverts who have gone back and done all that kind of stuff and have looked at the stats.
- 48:28Well, there will be some kind of clown or some kind of pervert who goes, Rush got exactly this many assists in his career.
- 48:35He's actually done and taken, gone back and looked at all of his games.
- 48:38For anyone listening that has done that kind of thing,
- 48:40out of research.
- 48:41Let me assure you, we don't mean to call you a pervert.
- 48:43I promise you they will be.
- 48:45I'm not going to be looking at any stats ahead of these calls anymore, Tony.
- 48:50Just kill that.
- 48:51Happy job.
- 48:52Mo Salah, Mo Salah, like literally is a freak.
- 48:56And the fact that he's done what he's done is remarkable because nobody in the world anticipated what he was going to turn into after coming from Roma.
- 49:05Because he was classed as a Chelsea reject who'd failed at Chelsea miserably.
- 49:11If we'd be totally honest, wasn't tearing up pitches at Roma, wasn't flying or going super strong.
- 49:17He'd just come in and even Jürgen Klopp said he didn't think he had it.
- 49:21When Jürgen Klopp said he puts it basically down to his scout
- 49:25Mo Salah he's come out and said that in public so I just think Mo Salah's like a freak mate he's just he's one of them I just gotta hold your hands up and go wow like he's I think he's I don't know enough like I said before but I would go Gerrard Daglish Salah and Rush
- 49:46To round it up then, so last week we spoke about centre-halves and he'd be getting to our Premier League all-time 11.
- 49:52Tony, you went Rio and Terry.
- 49:54Ozzy, if I'm right, I think you went Stones and Terry.
- 49:58If you remember correctly.
- 49:59Oh, sorry.
- 50:00Yeah, respect Big Silve.
- 50:02I also put Big Silve in.
- 50:04I'm not getting full of him.
- 50:05You don't need a problem off that fella.
- 50:07Fair play.
- 50:09So, wide players, you've got two.
- 50:11Who are you putting in?
- 50:12Are you putting Salah in or are you putting two others?
- 50:14Yes.
- 50:17Salah gets in mind.
- 50:18He's got in.
- 50:19Oh, I don't know if he gets in mind.
- 50:21Salah on one side, Ronaldo on the other.
- 50:23I was going to say, because of Ronaldo.
- 50:24So, if you're doing it that way, I'm probably, because of the amount of centre-forwards that we've got,
- 50:30If you're doing it, Thierry Henry plays off the side.
- 50:33Stop it, Oz.
- 50:34He's part of the front three.
- 50:35No, no, stop, Oz.
- 50:36You can't be doing this.
- 50:37But if you're talking about front three, then Cristiano Ronaldo is technically amazing, physically amazing.
- 50:46He won the Ballon d'Or and he hit it with Man United as well.
- 50:48Yeah, he won the Ballon d'Or.
- 50:50Cristiano Ronaldo is potentially in there and Henry is potentially in there.
- 50:53yeah but the word is that's making no really place for gigs and he was the best as an out and out winger so let's just be that's all we're playing 4-4 fucking 2 alright and we're having two wingers Benson and Edges playing Benson and Edges down the wings so we're doing a 4-4-2 is he is he a traditional winger
- 51:17I don't think he gets in a four-man midfield because of the way he plays.
- 51:21If you're playing 4-4-2, he's got to be considered a striker, I think.
- 51:25Which I can't consider him a striker.
- 51:27I'm not putting him up front.
- 51:28No chance.
- 51:29Exactly.
- 51:30So he doesn't get in there.
- 51:31He doesn't get in there.
- 51:33I can't play him as a midfielder on the right.
- 51:35He doesn't do any of the jobs that a midfielder needs to do.
- 51:38He is a winger.
- 51:40So...
- 51:43Take Henri out the question He doesn't get in 4-3-3 He doesn't get in 4-4-2 Well actually he does get in 4-4-2 Because I'm picking Salah I'm picking Salah over Giggs Would you have Giggs Over him Or Hazard I might even have Gareth Bale Oh yeah Wow Gareth forgot about Bale Yeah but he didn't show the form he showed in Madrid In the Premier League
- 52:10Would you take all three of them over Salah?
- 52:11Talking about players.
- 52:12Yeah, I think I would, yeah.
- 52:13I wouldn't take three players over Salah.
- 52:15I think I would.
- 52:16Ozzy's on the wind up here.
- 52:17Yeah, you're going to get the bitter blue shot here.
- 52:20It's very good.
- 52:20It is very good.
- 52:21I do like it.
- 52:22I'm encouraging it.
- 52:22I do like it a little bit.
- 52:24Yeah.
- 52:24I do like it, though.
- 52:25I definitely do like it.
- 52:26I mean, I'm supporting it in the background, but I'm trying it.
- 52:29Yeah.
- 52:29But I'm putting any Liverpool players in our Premier League to you.
- 52:33No, to be fair, if you go 4-3-3,
- 52:36Salah doesn't get in.
- 52:38And that's just... Because no one's to... You've got to find a place for Ronaldo or Rui.
- 52:45and Rooney.
- 52:45They've got to be in your front three.
- 52:47Yeah.
- 52:48Not Alan Shearer.
- 52:49Not Aguero.
- 52:50I agree.
- 52:52I agree.
- 52:53So Salah's got no arguments in a 4-3-3.
- 52:55There's just no, there's no argument there because there's, like he's just Aguero and Shearer.
- 52:59Like, I even have to put Shearer in.
- 53:02No, sorry, I'm missing out the best.
- 53:03I have to put Haaland in.
- 53:05So, there is no like, you know what I'm saying?
- 53:08In a 4-3-3, Salah's not getting in.
- 53:10In a 4-4-2 conventional system with wingers, I'm thinking, I'm thinking,
- 53:15Does he get ahead of Giggs?
- 53:16Does he get ahead of...
- 53:17I don't know.
- 53:18But he wants to play on the right, so you've got the likes of Beckham that played on the right.
- 53:22You've got Werther Trabruyne if it's in the 4-4-2.
- 53:25He takes Beckham's place.
- 53:28Yeah, if he used better than Beckham in the Prem.
- 53:30He takes Beckham's place.
- 53:31He does, Oz.
- 53:32I don't know.
- 53:33I think you're too young to remember Beckham Liam properly.
- 53:36I'm the same age as you, that fucker.
- 53:38I had him on the back of my shirt.
- 53:40You must be too young.
- 53:42You must be.
- 53:42Beckham was an unbelievably gifted player.
- 53:45Do you know what?
- 53:46I wonder how many assists he's got in his career.
- 53:48Right, I've got to go.
- 53:49Yeah, yeah.
- 53:50Well, well, I've got to follow someone.
- 53:52Hey, that's your pervert job for next week, Liam.
- 53:55Yeah.
- 53:56I'm on it.
- 53:56I'm on it.
- 53:57Let's certainly just be honest, I'm not trying to categorise anyone, but it is pervert behaviour when fellas are going on back in games from decades ago.
- 54:05That's fine.
- 54:06If you look at Ian Rush's career, and there is weirdos out there who do this for a living, they will look at Ian Rush's career and find out how many assists he got.
- 54:14Do you know how many games you're going to have to look through to find them out?
- 54:18It is frightening.
- 54:19So all you weirdos listening, just understand, that's what my wife calls you.
- 54:24And I'm not going to lie, I didn't make that word, but I'm just repeating what she says.
- 54:26He's thrown his wife under the bus.
- 54:28I know, yeah.
- 54:30She calls me a pair of ears every time I put on golf clothes.
- 54:33So it doesn't make no difference.
- 54:35That's what she says about me.
- 54:36She says, girl, she's a pair of ears.
- 54:37It knocks me sick.
- 54:39I'm just like, no problem.
- 54:40I'm trying to stay in golf clothes all the time now.
- 54:42So is it not a problem at all?
- 54:44Well, guys, I'm going to go.
- 54:45It's been a pleasure.
- 54:46No problem.
- 54:47See you.
- 54:47Catch you later.
