- 0:27Speaker 2: Ross Jackson. Where's our thing with the butter thing or
- 0:32Speaker 2: the toast?
- 0:33Speaker 3: Oh?
- 0:33Speaker 2: I have that too? You want to do it again?
- 0:36Speaker 2: Ross Jackson? Butter ghast? So good?
- 0:41Speaker 3: Excellent, it's so good.
- 0:43Speaker 2: I don't know, Broz, what do you What do you want? Buttertoast?
- 0:48Speaker 2: You have the other one? What's the other one? We're
- 0:50Speaker 2: gonna do?
- 0:51Speaker 1: Hang on, let's right, let's try it again. Let's w's
- 0:53Speaker 1: your workshop, mall and Ross Jackson. That was the Djjazzy
- 0:59Speaker 1: Jeffkins thrown out of the house. Yeah, yeah, I think.
- 1:02Speaker 2: The visual has to be there.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Yeah, like from the flower bed looking up a Jazzy
- 1:08Speaker 1: jeff flying out of the house.
- 1:10Speaker 3: Yeah, you need to know the story, you know, the
- 1:12Speaker 3: story around that with the shirt. Have you heard the
- 1:14Speaker 3: shirt story?
- 1:16Speaker 2: You know?
- 1:17Speaker 1: Ross probably, but man, I'm just kind of old and
- 1:25Speaker 1: that it's been a long time, all right, what's the.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Store with shirt? Oh?
- 1:30Speaker 3: It's super super simpl like. So my friend Seth Lewis
- 1:32Speaker 3: actually just reminded me of not long ago, but the
- 1:34Speaker 3: first time that they shot that, they threw him out
- 1:36Speaker 3: of the house and he was wearing a certain shirt
- 1:38Speaker 3: and so because they were just they just chose to
- 1:40Speaker 3: reuse that footage so that they didn't have to stunt
- 1:42Speaker 3: that over and over again. Every scene in which he's
- 1:45Speaker 3: thrown out of the house, he's wearing that shirt leading
- 1:48Speaker 3: up to the moment where he's thrown out the house.
- 1:49Speaker 3: So if you pay attention, you know when he's going
- 1:51Speaker 3: to get so like everybody have to stunt it over
- 1:57Speaker 3: and over and over again in different costumes.
- 1:59Speaker 2: That is there ever? Was there ever a scene with
- 2:04Speaker 2: DJ Jazzy Jeff where he wasn't thrown out of the house.
- 2:07Speaker 3: There was one to where he was thrown into the house,
- 2:10Speaker 3: which was really funny. Uncle Phil it's mad at him
- 2:13Speaker 3: and he says, jokes on you you can't throw me
- 2:15Speaker 3: out of the house because I'm already outside, so he
- 2:17Speaker 3: throws him into the house.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Love, that's good. I'll tell you what. He's a renaissance man.
- 2:23Speaker 1: He's got fresh French trivia, and he's got Saints practice reports.
- 2:27Speaker 2: That's why we have him here.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Okay, I don't want to get too hyped about Barry
- 2:32Speaker 1: and Brown, but this is what everyone's talking about. So
- 2:36Speaker 1: seven days into camp, how worthy is the hype?
- 2:41Speaker 3: I think it's worthy. I think it's different, and I'll
- 2:45Speaker 3: tell you a couple of reasons why. Number one, it's
- 2:48Speaker 3: not a one trick pony situation.
- 2:50Speaker 2: It's not.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Oh, he keeps winning downfield over and over again. That
- 2:54Speaker 3: was kind of the Mason Tipton hype for a little
- 2:56Speaker 3: while out in LA. It's where it was just the
- 2:59Speaker 3: constant connect downshield. But then there wasn't a lot in
- 3:02Speaker 3: the short intermediate area. Then you look at maybe like
- 3:04Speaker 3: the Immanuel Butler hype in the past, where okay, he
- 3:08Speaker 3: was winning sort of these one on one situations as
- 3:11Speaker 3: a big bodied receiver, but wasn't doing a lot underneath
- 3:13Speaker 3: and had no special team's role. Then Butler, yeah, yeah,
- 3:18Speaker 3: I figured I wondered I wanted pulling that one out.
- 3:20Speaker 3: How that one show I haven't referenced, but but ros.
- 3:25Speaker 1: This is why people are skeptical, right anyway, go ahead,
- 3:28Speaker 1: good goo.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Ahead, And so so now you think about all all
- 3:32Speaker 3: of those those elements of it. But then like barry
- 3:34Speaker 3: On Brown, he's made plays in the short area with
- 3:37Speaker 3: catch and run opportunities today because of the vertical threat
- 3:41Speaker 3: that he poses. In a first team drill, he sent
- 3:44Speaker 3: Kolid McKinstry backpedaling out of a play because Cooleid McKinstry
- 3:48Speaker 3: has to give, you know, has to make sure he's
- 3:50Speaker 3: not giving up the opportunity over the top. And then
- 3:53Speaker 3: that gave barry On Brown the opportunity for like a
- 3:56Speaker 3: fifteen yard comeback. So you saw a little bit of
- 3:59Speaker 3: the intermediate area, him understanding how to utilize his speed.
- 4:01Speaker 3: And then also you're seeing the big home run plays.
- 4:04Speaker 3: And he came into the NFL with an already built
- 4:06Speaker 3: in special teams role there, so it is a little
- 4:10Speaker 3: bit different to me because he's checking all of the
- 4:13Speaker 3: boxes as opposed to checking one singular box over and
- 4:16Speaker 3: over again. He's kind of making all these plays in
- 4:18Speaker 3: a bunch of different ways, and of course already has
- 4:20Speaker 3: a special team's role caught down.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Okay, so Ross.
- 4:23Speaker 1: That's my assertion here is that they drafted him knowing
- 4:27Speaker 1: he's going to be the kick and punt returner because
- 4:28Speaker 1: they were bad live they were twenty second in the
- 4:30Speaker 1: NFL last year and kick and punt returns like, that's
- 4:32Speaker 1: why they drafted him. The question is what type of
- 4:35Speaker 1: role can he fill?
- 4:36Speaker 2: Now?
- 4:36Speaker 1: Jalen polk retirement kind of opens up a chair. What
- 4:40Speaker 1: do we think could materialize here with Brown?
- 4:43Speaker 3: As far as a role, Yeah, I think with him
- 4:45Speaker 3: you have a couple of different things that you'd be
- 4:47Speaker 3: able to do. Yeah, he could be your home run here.
- 4:49Speaker 3: He can kind of serve a little bit of that
- 4:51Speaker 3: Rashid Shahid field stretching role, which could include the ball
- 4:55Speaker 3: going his way, or could include opening up a defense
- 4:58Speaker 3: for an opportunity elsewhere right, clear out options, things like that.
- 5:02Speaker 3: I also think that he could be really valuable for
- 5:04Speaker 3: you in the slot, especially with the yards after catch ability.
- 5:06Speaker 3: If you get the ball in his hands in space,
- 5:09Speaker 3: it gets the opportunity to turn into a returner on
- 5:12Speaker 3: offense and then be able to kind of pick apart
- 5:14Speaker 3: and try to find some lanes. I think that the
- 5:16Speaker 3: Saints have gone from being a team that we're consistently
- 5:19Speaker 3: top five in or at least top ten and yards
- 5:22Speaker 3: after catch to being a team that's typically bottom half
- 5:25Speaker 3: of the NFL and yards after catch. He Noah Fan
- 5:29Speaker 3: Juwan Johnson can all be guys that kind of help
- 5:31Speaker 3: to further that moving forward, as can Travesy Chang Junior
- 5:35Speaker 3: out of the backfield, and so I think offensively he
- 5:37Speaker 3: ends up being somebody that opens up the field for
- 5:40Speaker 3: you as a deep threat, but also can be a
- 5:42Speaker 3: bit of a slot specialist to be sort of that
- 5:44Speaker 3: quick twitch kind of receiver route runner that has the
- 5:47Speaker 3: ability to be able to catch a pass, a five
- 5:51Speaker 3: yard pass and turn it into a eight to fifteen
- 5:53Speaker 3: yard gain with a little bit of work after the catch.
- 5:55Speaker 1: So Ross, whenever something good happens in camp, you wonder
- 5:58Speaker 1: is it because the the guy made the play or
- 6:01Speaker 1: the guy on the other side of the ball stinks.
- 6:03Speaker 1: That's just a natural thing when it's good on good
- 6:05Speaker 1: right when the team you're watching and you're going to
- 6:07Speaker 1: practice Tyler Shuck throw two picks today? Was it because
- 6:11Speaker 1: Tyler Shuck stinks or because the defenders made good plays?
- 6:15Speaker 3: In one instance, it was because the defender made a
- 6:17Speaker 3: good play. In the other instance, it was just a
- 6:19Speaker 3: game situation thing. So we always talk about how not
- 6:22Speaker 3: all interceptions are created equal, and this is a really
- 6:25Speaker 3: good example of it. The first interception that he threw,
- 6:27Speaker 3: which went to Koulaid McKinstry, was an instance in which
- 6:31Speaker 3: in the red zone on a first down drill or
- 6:34Speaker 3: first down play, Tyler Shuck scrambled out to the right
- 6:37Speaker 3: side of the field and he went to throw the
- 6:38Speaker 3: football away out of the back of the end zone,
- 6:40Speaker 3: didn't get enough on it, and koula Aid McKinstry, And
- 6:43Speaker 3: this just kind of speaks to what the mentality of
- 6:45Speaker 3: the defense has been so far this offseason, or at
- 6:47Speaker 3: least throughout training camp. Instead of Kulaid mcinstry just watching
- 6:50Speaker 3: the ball sale into the end zone, he thought that
- 6:53Speaker 3: maybe he could potentially get a fingertip on it or
- 6:55Speaker 3: a hand on it, and he did so he leapt up.
- 6:57Speaker 3: He ended up getting a fingertip on it and tipping
- 6:59Speaker 3: it back to himself and getting the interception. So Lesson learned,
- 7:02Speaker 3: if you're going to throw the ball away, you got
- 7:04Speaker 3: to put a little bit more mustard on that thang
- 7:06Speaker 3: and get it out of here, so right, you got
- 7:07Speaker 3: to get that figured out. The second interception was one
- 7:10Speaker 3: to where it was a third and four with four
- 7:12Speaker 3: seconds left and a simulated two minute drill down for
- 7:15Speaker 3: you got to put it up and give somebody an
- 7:17Speaker 3: opportunity in the end zone to go out and make
- 7:19Speaker 3: a play. And the player that made a play happen
- 7:21Speaker 3: to be Quincy Riley and not one of the receivers,
- 7:23Speaker 3: and so you know, it's two interceptions. There are a
- 7:26Speaker 3: couple of interceptions that you can deal with in a
- 7:28Speaker 3: practice situation. Certainly an interception you can deal with of
- 7:31Speaker 3: just like, hey, I got to put the ball up
- 7:33Speaker 3: and give a guy an opportunity to go out there
- 7:35Speaker 3: and make a play. Quincy Riley makes a play, it
- 7:37Speaker 3: sets up an opportunity though for Tyler Schuck to be
- 7:40Speaker 3: able to kind of come back on Saturday with a
- 7:41Speaker 3: little bit of a chip on his shoulder. That'll be
- 7:43Speaker 3: interesting to see. But overall, I don't think there's a
- 7:45Speaker 3: lot of concern to be had around this particular type
- 7:48Speaker 3: of two interceptions.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Okay, the full practice report is up. You can read
- 7:51Speaker 1: it for free at Louisiana sports dot Net. As always,
- 7:54Speaker 1: very detailed that Ross does for us. You can watch
- 7:57Speaker 1: or listen locked on Saint podcast or YouTube for free.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Any other takeaways Overarchy takeaways from day seven.
- 8:08Speaker 3: Yeah, tough day in the kicker category for Charlie Smith
- 8:12Speaker 3: missed three kicks in a row, one to thirty nine,
- 8:15Speaker 3: one from mid forty, one from fifty one, and typically
- 8:19Speaker 3: you kind of, you know, take a kick from extra point,
- 8:21Speaker 3: then you back up a little bit, then you to
- 8:23Speaker 3: back up a little bit, then you backup a little bit.
- 8:24Speaker 3: This one, after he missed three in a row, they
- 8:26Speaker 3: actually moved him forward back to thirty nine and had
- 8:29Speaker 3: him rekick from thirty nine, rekick from fifty one. He
- 8:31Speaker 3: made both of those, but a three of six day
- 8:33Speaker 3: for him. His first rough day. Opportunity for him to
- 8:37Speaker 3: respond will come on Sunday. Tanner Brown will kick again
- 8:40Speaker 3: on Saturday. The defensive line, particularly the edge rushers, continue
- 8:44Speaker 3: to be really really impressive to watch. Tyree Wilson really
- 8:48Speaker 3: seems to be coming alive here past couple of practices,
- 8:52Speaker 3: which is really good news for the Saints. First of all,
- 8:55Speaker 3: to get somebody of that bast status, that length, that size,
- 9:00Speaker 3: you know, cooking in the defense to add to guys
- 9:02Speaker 3: like Chase Young, Cam Jordan, Carlgreeners who have continued to
- 9:05Speaker 3: impress here throughout camp. But he's feeling really good and
- 9:08Speaker 3: you can see his confidence building. Anthony Jennings on the
- 9:10Speaker 3: other side of that, has been really outstanding from the
- 9:13Speaker 3: run defense side of it, of course, a place where
- 9:15Speaker 3: the Saints would love to see some improvement. You know,
- 9:17Speaker 3: he came in as a guy that was considered to
- 9:19Speaker 3: be one of the NFL's best edge setters. He's shown
- 9:21Speaker 3: that year so far throughout practice and I'm really really
- 9:26Speaker 3: intrigued by, Like, not a lot has gone well for
- 9:28Speaker 3: the Saints when it comes to red zone offense in practice.
- 9:31Speaker 3: We'll see how that continues to develop. But the run
- 9:33Speaker 3: game looks pretty effective there, and that's something that I
- 9:36Speaker 3: think would help them in a situation in which you're
- 9:38Speaker 3: building upon a drive progression as opposed to a scenario
- 9:42Speaker 3: or an environment like a practice environment where you run
- 9:44Speaker 3: this play, reset, run a different play, reset, and run
- 9:47Speaker 3: a different play. That run game could be really really
- 9:49Speaker 3: beneficial for them if it looks in practice and execution
- 9:53Speaker 3: in game the way that it looks here throughout practice
- 9:55Speaker 3: so far at.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Ross Jackson, NOLA.
- 9:58Speaker 1: That's where you can get him on Twitter and read
- 10:00Speaker 1: for free over at Louisiana Sports dot Net. Listen or
- 10:03Speaker 1: watch for free locked on Saints. Make sure you get it.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Thank you, dude, We appreciate it.
- 10:08Speaker 3: Thank you by talking to you soon
