- Rick Mullen: Hi everybody, welcome to Hatrix Unofficial Flyers podcast. My name is Rick Mullin, I'll be hosting tonight. Well, we just saw a Penguins Flyers game that, you know, I'm absolutely pumped up. We beat the Penguins, I hate losing to them. I'm sure every Flyer fan out there hates losing to them, so it's always really good to see the Flyers beat up on the Penguins. So we'll take this win. All in all, rough game. I mean, this was a game of two Bad teams. Definitely terrible, terrible teams. think Pittsburgh outshot us 23 to 15, I believe. Seemed like they outshot us by a lot more. They didn't even have Malkin or Crosby. you know, it was, it was, it was a hard game to watch. Vledge struggled really hard in the beginning of this game. It was difficult. Probably one or two goals here that went in that, you know, he wishes he got back. didn't really think we were going to win this when I was watching in the beginning. Thought it was ⁓ going to be a really hard game and you know, it turned out that it was just, again, it was just a game of two bad teams. A couple good things. So, Bump. Bump gets his call up. He gets to come up, play in his first game. It has to be against Pittsburgh. But hey, he goes and he scores his first NHL goal. Really exciting to see him come up. actually get a goal, fit in pretty well. I think the more he plays, obviously the better he'll get, the stronger he'll get. The speed I'm sure is a little off from down in the AHL, so he needs some time to adjust, but he didn't look too bad. He didn't look super fast or anything, he didn't stand out, but when he did get the puck, he made some good decisions, he has a good shot, went to the net really good. So I think he was a really good first showing for a bump and... Hopefully it's a start of a good career here with us at the Flyers. Barky, Barky goes and gets a goal tonight too. So the two kids score. It's really good to see. They played together a lot, Barky and Bump in the AHL. That was the first line. And I have liked to have seen them play a little bit together. I don't think I did. I was watching in and out of this game. I saw most of it, ⁓ Tach said he was going to kind of keep them separated. He was going to... ⁓ keep bumping in line with a veteran or two and let them, I guess show them the ropes and protect them through the game. big, big shout out to Jamie dries down. mean, Jamie dries down, how God in his first NHL flight tonight, ⁓ funny to see, but great to see, you know, I think, you're got, you know, buried in the back by, ⁓ God, I'm blanking on his name, but, ⁓ yeah. That's what you get when you don't have somebody else here. You're flying solo on a podcast. Nobody's here to help you. he was, ⁓ York was laid out behind a net by a Pittsburgh penguin and Jamie Drysdale jumped right in and, right away. Didn't think twice. You went right at him, you know, dropped the gloves and, you know, try to, you know, give him some justice behind the flyers and that, ⁓ really good to see, you know, I'm really surprised. I, know, I'm not surprised that Jamie dropped, jumped in. I'm just surprised that Jamie actually dropped his gloves. and went at it. So good for Jamie, man. A lot of kudos there ⁓ for him standing up for a teammate. and Tippic gets a goal tonight, ties the game up, 3-3, I believe. And we went that way all the way through to overtime. Overtime was messy, really messy. It couldn't went either way. Each teammate's mistakes, ⁓ Vlad, jumps in the last two minutes and stands in front of a Pittsburgh Penguins and trips them up. And the Pittsburgh Penguins go on a last two minute of the game roughly power play. And I'm thinking, God, that's terrible. This is how it always happens to us. Last minute of these games, the refs go and they give the Penguins a power play all the time. And they always end up scoring and winning and breaks all of our hearts. Well, I waited for it. I kept watching and It didn't happen in like, you know, it just didn't go for them and which was great. And then we go into a shootout and lo and behold, Zegris goes and buries a goal and we win the game. Vlad stops all three shots on net. Fantastic to watch again. Love seeing the Flyers beat the Penguins. Nothing, nothing better than that. So really good game from a Perspective from the kids, know seeing the kids actually get time on the ice get some goals actually contribute It was good to see so I think these guys have a bright future and I'm glad that they had the opportunity to play and I hope I hope they keep getting an opportunity to play a couple couple things there was there was some stuff out today about Possibly Breyer blaming the media ⁓ on ⁓ ⁓ Rista Lennon wasn't traded. and you know, some people are posting it online and, know, on X and I'm not sure if that's accurate or not. You know, I listened to that media coverage to his, time and, know, I don't, I don't think the Danny said that. think what Danny said was there was a lot of, ⁓ hype out there. There was a lot of misinformation out there. There was things being said that, you know, didn't come from him or the flyers and You know, was lot of made up fake things. you know, I don't think, you know, Danny blamed the media that because of that, he couldn't trade Risto. I think he just blamed the media that there was too much stuff going on out there and none of it was true. ⁓ you know, he had to deal with some of it, you know. So again, I'm going to discredit anyone saying that Danny Breyer said that the media was the reason that Risto wasn't traded. I think the ask for what he wanted for Risto is the reason why Risto wasn't traded. And I think that is really all it comes down to. What the offers were just weren't big enough. hopefully that stops. I don't think Danny did say it. And if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I apologize now, but that's just not what I hear or heard. Another thing that was out there, right before the trade deadline was Shabanov. Shabanov who was rumored to come to the Flyers all last summer. was, ⁓ hey, he's definitely coming to the Flyers. He's not going anywhere else. This is a slam dunk. Put your money on it and it's going to happen. And guess what? It didn't happen. New York came by and stole them from us, right? And we were all mad. I was mad. I was really looking forward to seeing that kid play. And I thought he was going be great addition to a pretty weak team and ⁓ here at the Flyers and you know, he never made it to us. He went to New York. I think some of his reasonings at that point in time were they had a better power play. They were going to put him on the power play. He was going to get more playing time and hey, guess what? He did not. He actually said right before the trade deadline that, you know, he was open to a trade and wanted to be traded. ⁓ Nobody won him. He stayed with I don't think anyone will take him. I think he's going to have a short-lived career here in the NHL. That's just my opinion. I could be wrong, but I don't think he's going to be here much longer. I don't think the Islanders are going to take him. I don't think anyone else is going to sign him. ⁓ Maybe someone does, maybe ⁓ like San Jose or someone like that will pick him up, Chicago, something like that. But I don't think so. I think if he does get a deal with one of those teams, it may be for a one-year as well. And that's it. So I think ⁓ the Flyers and the Flyer fans here dodged the bullet and thank God we did not get Shabanov. So anyway, here we are and at the end of this quick podcast, just to review the game, ⁓ really big win for the Flyers. They got some points. It doesn't really mean anything, but ⁓ nothing more than a moral win here. You can't lose to Pittsburgh, especially when Malkin and Crosby are in the lineup. So great job to the Flyers for pulling out a win. Great job to the kids for contributing. And really nice to see Dan Lodar staying on his head in that shootout. He had a tough game. It was great to see him recover and lock it down and to see Ziegres bury that game winner and send the Flyers home with a victory. All right, until next game.
