- 0:19there? It is, there's the music there. We are. Hello and
- 0:24welcome to Trek Cast, the Galaxy's most unpredictable Star Trek podcast. I am
- 0:30one of your hosts, Buck Bookay with me as always apparently is also Buck
- 0:35Bookay Daniel So Buck Buck and Dan Daniel or is it? Or is it
- 0:43Buck Daniel Buck? What's the what's the order? How do you want to
- 0:47do it? Yeah? I figure alphabetical, right, yeah? So did
- 0:53you did you? Did you see me in the thing? And and I'm
- 1:00just like I was looking at the one from last week. I'm like,
- 1:03moopsie, Well I don't have moopsy today, so I need to change my
- 1:04username. And I'm like, what are we doing today? We're talking about
- 1:07baseball? What's the only baseball track name? I know? All right?
- 1:15For those who don't know, Buck book I played for the for the London
- 1:19Kings in uh in the fictional baseball team in the Star Trek universe. He
- 1:26was he was Cisco's favorite player. I think they I think he played with
- 1:30him on the Holidack or something or or yeh. He showed up in a
- 1:34in an episode where right, yeah, yeah, some alliens were taking stuff
- 1:41from Yeah, there's there is the Great Buck Book. I the Great Buck
- 1:46BOOKAI. Yep, that's great. Well late, because it's my fault,
- 1:55so sorry, guys. Yeah, that's fine. Yeah, it's fine.
- 1:59He had to Daniel had to run out and meet his bookie. That's right,
- 2:06Taylor Swift, she's gonna win tonight. You know, it's crazy.
- 2:12People are getting mad. Yeah, they're getting They're getting mad that a twenty
- 2:15five year old girl is going to the super Bowl. Shut up, So
- 2:21what exact exactly? Who cares? Whether nobody cares? You don't like her?
- 2:29I mean, I I know who Taylor's I know who Taylor Swift is.
- 2:35I couldn't name a Taylor Swift song for you if if I tried,
- 2:38if I if I heard them on the radio, I could probably pick her
- 2:43out and say, oh yeah, I think this is Taylor Swift. But
- 2:45as long as you don't have bad blood with her for good, you're not
- 2:49ANX I know that Swift. What's that? Well, if you're a bad
- 2:53if you're an next boyfriend of Taylor Swift, you're definitely gonna hear about it.
- 2:55Oh for sure, for sure, Yeah, you'll be the anti.
- 3:00So as long as none of us have dated her, where we should all
- 3:02be Okay, Well, I guess you know. It's just it's so weird.
- 3:09It's so weird that there's people that are just like they hate her,
- 3:15yeah for for what though, Well that's what they hate her for no reason.
- 3:20Yeah, that's the weird thing. Like I don't have I don't really
- 3:23have an opinion of her that much. Yeah, like I don't you know,
- 3:28I kind of feel like she should be doing the halftime show though,
- 3:30not usure, but you know, I think that I think people would be
- 3:35more crazy. Oh do you think they would? Yeah, they would lose
- 3:38their they would lose their crap. Yeah, the way the way people scream
- 3:42scream about nepotism and stuff nowadays. Right. The only thing I know about
- 3:49sorry, the only thing I know about Taylor Swift. The thing I don't
- 3:52know if I mentioned this, if there's a conversation d with you guys or
- 3:53somebody else, But the only thing that I remember reading about her a couple
- 3:58of weeks ago was she was at a football game in one of the boxes
- 4:01because you know, yeah, she's Taylor Swift and you know, there was
- 4:04a bunch of other people and she stood up and, like I don't know,
- 4:09went to the bathroom and went to get a drink or something. And
- 4:11as she left, she went around and picked up a bunch of empty cups
- 4:15and plates and threw them away. Okay. And and when I read that,
- 4:18I'm like, oh, okay, so she she didn't get the diva
- 4:23memo, which is good, you know. Yeah. I respect that more
- 4:28about her than any of any song I may or may not. Yeah,
- 4:33So hopefully if Dan was in that same box, he would be like,
- 4:38that's for the little people to take care of. I got people. I
- 4:41got people for that. That's right. That's right, I got people for
- 4:44that. One of them is named Daniel. The other one is named right,
- 4:47that's right. Yeah, we would pick up after you. Absolutely Jesus.
- 4:55Swifties. Is that like a track but a Taylor? I think so
- 5:00Swifties? Well, you know whatever, whatever. Yeah, you guys doing
- 5:06anything for the big game tonight? Uh have friends over? Yeah, going
- 5:13to the in laws where we eat like uh like bar food nice? Usually,
- 5:18Well we'll just do a spread of bar food. Yeah. My daughter
- 5:23is is young enough that she knows absolutely nothing about football and even less about
- 5:27the Super Bowl, So if you ask her, we're going to a pizza
- 5:30party, so you know. And yeah, I'm more excited about in the
- 5:38game. So yeah, same. I just want to see the movie trailers.
- 5:42Yeah, yeah, yeah, so hopefully we got a Deadpool one.
- 5:46That's what I'm hoping for very much. So I just watched The Marbles.
- 5:51Oh yeah, I think I liked it. It was good. It's fun.
- 5:56It had a very cool end credit scene. But I won't spoil,
- 6:00but yeah, it was I thought it was a good movie. I don't
- 6:02understand the hate on it. I don't understand the the two star reviews.
- 6:08It was. I think it was a perfectly serviceable It was the victim of
- 6:13there's there was too many lesser Marble outings recently. Yeah, people just had
- 6:20it. Yeah, but it was a perfectly fine film, Larson, like
- 6:26everybody else does. Yep. I I haven't seen it yet. I fully
- 6:33planned to see it. I didn't see it in the theater. It just
- 6:36came out on a Disney Plus so yeah. Yeah, I think, uh,
- 6:42a lot of the hate is just left over from the last one.
- 6:48Yeah. Sure, they brought they brought the character. They brought the character
- 6:51into the MCU halfway through the fourth quarter to use a football term, halfway
- 6:59through the fourth water and had her swoop in as a somewhat of a savior.
- 7:04And it's like, hey, they've been building this franchise for ten years
- 7:08at this point, who is this person that swoops in at the last minute.
- 7:11So I think that I think a lot of it stems from that,
- 7:15oh for sure, for sure. Yeah, but yeah, I thought it
- 7:18was pretty good. Even Tabar says he thought the Marvels was good. He
- 7:23doesn't get the hate either. So yeah, and while I didn't watch it,
- 7:27somebody, somebody online ruined the post credit scene for yeah, months and
- 7:31months. Yeah, yeahs as they as they always do. You're an idiot
- 7:41because I'm like, oh, look I know that character. Yeah. Well,
- 7:48should we get to the news, Absolutely sure. All right, So
- 7:57our first new story is for Dan. We're getting some more talk about Star
- 8:01Trek Discovery, I know you want to know about for those for those listening,
- 8:09for those listening, Uh, you know, I got really excited when
- 8:13he said he had a story for me. You know, my uh,
- 8:20I just collapsed. Everyone knows my posture just completely changed. I don't care.
- 8:31Check. Yeah, so if they interviewed sneakl Martin glareen Over on trekmovie
- 8:35dot com and she talked a little bit about what we can expect for Discovery
- 8:41season five. She you know, every year, big things, big things
- 8:45are coming. But one thing that she said that I that I'm really surprised
- 8:48was kind of burying the headline. She talked about a tonal shift for Discovery.
- 8:54What does that mean? You know what? Will they be more lighthearted?
- 8:56Will they have more fun? I don't know, but there's gonna be
- 9:01a tonal shift. So they're going to travel further in the future and they're
- 9:05gonna make her cry even more. That's right, big, yes, Yeah,
- 9:11so that's that. I thought that was kind of interesting. I guess
- 9:13we'll see. I did see that they announced in I think it's April fourth
- 9:18or the release date for Star Tric Discovery season five. Okay, yeah,
- 9:26so early day before first contact. Yeah, just in time, right,
- 9:33but yeah, so I'm trying to see what I can find. But yeah,
- 9:37so early April we'll have it and we'll start reviewing those episodes. Cool,
- 9:41looking forward to it. Yeah. The next is uh, the next
- 9:46story comes us from game rant dot com and they interviewed John Delancey Q about
- 9:54Star Trek legacy. We're kind of getting a mixed bag about this. So
- 9:58in the Delancey interview, he is not very uh. He doesn't think it's
- 10:05gonna happen. He thinks that at this point they've missed their window, and
- 10:09you know, if the fans really push for it, maybe, but he
- 10:13doesn't see it happening. But also this week, Terry Mettalis was interviewed at
- 10:18the Saturn Awards and he was much more chipper about it. He said that
- 10:24they have already allocated money for like Academy and the other projects, but there's
- 10:31nothing on the table right now for a legacy. But he thinks, you
- 10:33know, could be though fans really want it, So I guess we'll wait
- 10:37and see. So I don't think the window has closed. No Picard Season
- 10:48one dropped, you know, twenty years after right Nemesis, right that that
- 10:58window, that window is open and it's painted and it's painted open. You
- 11:03know it's not going anywhere. That window is always open always. Also,
- 11:09the people that decide, you know, at whatever studio owns Trek, now
- 11:13it's it's always it's always hard to tell with who as far as like parent
- 11:18companies and stuff. But anyways, if you want a good barometer of what
- 11:22your fans want, go online and look at the fan art, because there's
- 11:26a ton of fan art depicting uh Star Trek Legacy. They got some awesome
- 11:33you know, fan made posters that you know, look amazing and it's you
- 11:37know, like I said, if you want to take the temperature, look
- 11:41at the fan art. Everybody's taking fan out about start Trek Legacy with the
- 11:45Seven of Nine and the Raffis and and and the jack Crushers and stuff,
- 11:48and then and the Enterprise and just look, take a look at that.
- 11:52That's where the that's the direction you want to know what direction to go?
- 11:54There you go, there's your sign. Yeah, well don't just just don't
- 12:01take temperature with a barometer pressure. That's right, thank you. Sorry,
- 12:09And I bicked up my logical. Sorry my tray quarter settings were a little
- 12:16off. Yeah, I don't explain the settings. Yes, all right,
- 12:20how do you scan with this thing? Again? I forgot? That's just
- 12:26hold holding up holding up to your forehead you that oh, somebody called it
- 12:33warning warning, NERD alert, nerd alert, you ever gave you a nerd
- 12:39alert for theatre. Yeah, that's fine, that's fine, all right.
- 12:45In our last news, I host a Star Trek, I host a Star
- 12:48Trek podcast. That you think calling me a nerd hurts my feelings? Exactly?
- 12:52We are past that, sure, all right. I last from us
- 13:00from trekmovie dot com. And they recently interviewed Nicholas Cage. So if you
- 13:05remember, like maybe a month or so ago, he did an interview where
- 13:07he talked about how he's a treky and he would love to do Star Trek.
- 13:11So they were following up with him saying, hey, so what's up
- 13:13with that, and he basically came out and said, yeah, he's had
- 13:18some talks about it. He's interested. If he's going to do it,
- 13:22he wants to be on the bridge of a ship, preferably the Enterprise.
- 13:28But he's down. So now that we're on our fifteenth rendition of Star Trek
- 13:33four, maybe they'll put him in that. Here's the thing though, Yeah,
- 13:41someone with his level of fame, if you're going to have him on
- 13:46the bridge of the Enterprise, he's gonna want to be the captain right that
- 13:52ship. He's it's not going to be you know, and Nicholas Cage as
- 13:56Helmsman Brown. You know that's not that's that's not going to happen. And
- 14:03as far as them making a new version of Star Trek with the Enterprise built
- 14:11around Nicholas Cage, I don't know. I don't know if I see that
- 14:16he's also open to being a villain and just having his own ship. I
- 14:20thought he said he wanted to. He preferably said he wants to be on
- 14:26the bridge of the Enterprise. I just had shows up there and take over.
- 14:33We could we could fulfill all of Nicholas Cage's fantasies by making it a
- 14:39crossover and it can be the crew of the USS Enterprise against the Injustice version
- 14:43of Superman. There you go, Nicholas Cage, tell me that's not gold
- 14:50boy, I m And so I don't know. Nicholas Cage was going to
- 14:56play Superman right a nineteen nineties and he got to in the Flash, And
- 15:01he got to in the Flash. Yeah, just like great Admiral, his
- 15:07likeness got to Yeah, yeah, he could do a cameo or like you
- 15:15know what you know, like in Star Wars when h Double O seven played
- 15:22a Stormtrooper Craig Daniels, you know, something like that. If he really
- 15:26wants to be you know, he can do a cameo as like a really
- 15:28done up alien or something. But he's not going to be some kind of
- 15:33front man. He's not gonna be some kind of you know, it's not
- 15:37gonna work. Yeah, I know we should. Uh, he's got a
- 15:43he's got a reputation right now of pretty much doing anything that's put in front
- 15:46of him, pretty much said some because he's had some financial trouble, So
- 15:50we should find out what it would cost to get him on the show.
- 15:58How's that CoFe account looking? Yeah? As looking. I'm gonna see if
- 16:03he's got a cameo. Okay, there you go. Maybe we can.
- 16:07Yeah, it's not looking like it. Yeah. I don't know, man,
- 16:12I would love him to be a villain. I think he'd make a
- 16:15great villain. I don't know what you would you know, I'd have to
- 16:18think about it a little bit before i'd say what what to do with him?
- 16:22I want to see him as this, uh. I want to see
- 16:26him as a starship captain, a starfleet starship captain. But his last name
- 16:32has to be po and he has to be a descendant of Cameron Poe from
- 16:37conn Air. That's my only Okay, okay, what if we do step
- 16:48Steve has to be in it too. Yeah. He plays Kirk at first,
- 16:55and then he swaps with Chris. Fine. I love it. Yea,
- 17:02take his face. That's right, he's got the golden guns. Yeah.
- 17:08I'm gonna be perfectly honest with you. I know exactly what movie you're
- 17:14talking about. You've never seen it, never seen it, zero desire.
- 17:19As soon as as soon as I saw it, I was like, the
- 17:22premise of this is so ridiculous. It's probably the most realistic movie I've ever
- 17:27seen, indeed. Okay, I mean it's up there with Fast and Furious
- 17:34ten. Yeah, which I have a terrible movie, man, But that's
- 17:41what makes it. It's one of those movies kind of wats because yeah,
- 17:47he steals a Federation tugger, which the treasure. Yeah, perfect, I
- 17:56like that, ta be? I like that answer? Yes, yeah.
- 18:03Yeah. He goes he finds Jonathan Archer, who's like three hundred years old,
- 18:07asks him to read the inscription on the back and decipher it for him.
- 18:11Because you were there, they could pay off the line from the two
- 18:14thousand and nine, start track and find porthos. They finally find there you
- 18:18go. Yeah, yeah, so there you go, redeemed Scattie. All
- 18:26right, well that's the end of the news. Let's let's get to our
- 18:30main topic. Yes, right, fun will now comment Now. I spent
- 18:40all night writing a plot summary, so can I Can I read it?
- 18:42Yeah? Yeah, go for it? Okay, here we go. What
- 18:45we're talking about first? Yeah, okay, I think you are. Yeah,
- 18:51so we we uh for for the big game? Today? We had
- 18:53a sports theme review, so we reviewed. Was it? Season seven,
- 19:00episode four of Space nine Take me Out to the Holiday? That's the baseball
- 19:07Yeah, there you go? All right, Daniel, Oh my bad.
- 19:17Okay, Scott, take it away with your with your recap. Okay,
- 19:21I apologize that this is wordy. Here's the plot summarye for This is Star
- 19:26Trek Spaces nine, season seven, episode four, Taking up Bowl Sweet You
- 19:30ready a Balkan captain challenge of Cisco to a game of baseball. Mm hmm
- 19:37that's accurate. Yes, yes, I might have plagiarized that from IMDb.
- 19:44Okay, okay, it's fun. It's fun. You can be president now,
- 20:00yeah, it's I don't know, man, it's one of my favorite
- 20:03episodes. It is also one of my favorite it is it's it's great as
- 20:10far as deep spacedine episodes, episodes that were a little weren't taken too seriously,
- 20:17this is right up there with the vic Fontaine episode where they have to
- 20:22fix vic Fontayne's life. It's it's I I really enjoyed it, and it
- 20:27was perfect in that it's right smack dab in the middle of the Dominion war
- 20:33and it's, uh, you know, it gets real serious after after this,
- 20:40a little bit of chrysal chrysalis, and then after that it's all you
- 20:42know, yeah, the Federation mostly yeah, yeah, but you know what,
- 20:51flipping flipping through the uh, flipping through the episodes to find it,
- 20:56it just reminded me that, you know, we used to get twenty five
- 21:02episodes per season for Star Trek. How ye spoiled series? How spoiled were
- 21:10we? Oh? For sure, it didn't even and we didn't even know
- 21:12it to the point where you know, yeah, they can do an episode
- 21:18like this. They can just put an hour aside and say we're gonna we're
- 21:21gonna do a We're gonna have a baseball episode. It's gonna be totally nonsensical.
- 21:26We're gonna a baseball episode, We're gonna do a musical episode. Well
- 21:33yeah, yeah, yeah, but but but Strange New Worlds is the only
- 21:38one that does stuff like that because they've gone back We've talked about that,
- 21:41they've gone back to the old format. I wish they'd go back to the
- 21:45old format and go back to the old number of of of episodes. Think
- 21:51of what think of what we could get from Strange New Worlds if they took
- 21:55the episode count and multiplied it by two and a half. Yeah, yeah,
- 22:03it would be there would be room for episodes like this. Some people
- 22:08argue that it's you know, quality over quantity. You know, how many
- 22:12episodes do you need to tell the story of an entire year? But you
- 22:18know, I'm all about more track whatever, you know, I'll gobble it
- 22:22up. But you know, some of some of my favorite episodes have nothing
- 22:29to do with the ongoing story, like this one, the one you were
- 22:34just talking about where they do the heist at the at the casino to save
- 22:38vic Fontaine, the Magnificent FORENGI that one. As far as rewatchability, Yeah,
- 22:45you know, I love that one. I love that one. You
- 22:48know, Quark Rahm and no get a bunch of Frengie idiots together and go
- 22:52to the other deep space nine to rescue Mogie. Yeah, that's gold baby,
- 22:59it's well According to the Hollywood Reporter, this was right the sixteenth best
- 23:04out of twenty episodes, out of the twenty top episodes, so this ranked
- 23:08sixteenth. Yeah, it's very well received. Yeah. I did have some
- 23:15trivia questions for you guys. Sure, all right, we'll do a few.
- 23:21Let's start. Let's start a little bit simple. What was the name
- 23:25of Jake Cisco's sports nickname, the Sider? There you go, there you
- 23:30go, Okay, Okay, bring it out. What flavor of gum did
- 23:37Miles o' brian make, scotch? Scotch? Okay? What was the name
- 23:44of the Vulcan team the logicians? The Logicians? There you go. Nice,
- 23:51That's all I had. I just wrote down. I jotted down some
- 23:57thoughts in no particular order. Sure, some of them are you know,
- 24:02some of them are things to talk about. Some of them are just things
- 24:04that I went, huh, you know, that captain, he's a starfleet
- 24:12officer. He was wearing a starfleet uniform, but they referred to him being
- 24:18on a Vulcan ship, yeah, and referred to there being a Vulcan station,
- 24:25like, if you don't, if you don't want to get your repairs
- 24:26done here, there's a Vulcan station ten miles down the road, you know,
- 24:30head over there. So excuse me, he you know, the station
- 24:36may be like a Vulcan high command station, but the ship he's commanding is
- 24:41clearly a Federation starship staffed staffed completely by Vulcans. How racist is that?
- 24:55How is seriously though? How is that? How is that? A loud?
- 25:00Yeah? I mean if you think of if you think of starships,
- 25:04and if you think of a starship as a military base mm hmm okay.
- 25:14So you know, Scott, you were in the army, so base the
- 25:18base commander is usually what like a colonel yep, which is the naval equivalent,
- 25:22which is the Army equivalent of a of a naval captain captain. So,
- 25:27ye, did you ever serve on any Army basis where the colonel who
- 25:33commanded the base was white? And said, I'm only having a white officers
- 25:37on this base. And that's a very good point. That's a that's a
- 25:41very good point. And I've thought about this because I think we talked about
- 25:44this or you guys talked about this a couple of years ago about this particular
- 25:47episode in the All vulcme croup. And I do have a counterpoint to it.
- 25:52I was part of the reserves, the army reserves, but we also
- 25:56have something called the national Guard and say the Mission National Guard. For example,
- 26:00any army unit that's in the Michigan National Guard is comprised of all Michiganders.
- 26:07Okay, it's in all Michigander unit. Same with any national Guard around
- 26:14the country for the most part. If you're part of the Florida National Guard
- 26:19or the Idaho National Guard, or the New York National Guard, that's comprised
- 26:23of all New Yorkers. Now in star Trek, yeah, this is a
- 26:29little suspect. And the only thing I can think of is every Federation planet,
- 26:34and there's one hundred and fifty of them might have their own Starfleet national
- 26:40Guard type thing going on. So you know, they have their own bases
- 26:47where they can protect themselves where the state or the planet. You know,
- 26:52if something happens to Vulcan, the Vulcan president or the Vulcan governor can say,
- 26:56hey, we need to call in the Vulcan Starfleet National Guard, and
- 27:00that's part of the Starfleet national Guard. That's the only thing I can think
- 27:03of, Air National Guard. Whatever. Yeah, I get it. So
- 27:10you know, if you're looking for an explanation, that's the best one I
- 27:11can come up with. Yeah. So, so, so what you're what
- 27:17you're saying is that this ship is not staffed by people who are Vulcan by
- 27:22race. These are people who are Vulcan by residency. That's what I'm getting.
- 27:26Like if I was an if I was an Andoran who immigrated to Vulcan
- 27:33and I live on Vulcan and I joined the National Guard, I would be
- 27:37on the Vulcan National Guard because that's where I live, and I will serve
- 27:40on the ship. Yeah, okay, if they can divide the military by
- 27:44state, divide the military by state, and I'm not sure I understand the
- 27:51question. Well okay, So for for a little bit of clarification, the
- 27:56army, by just the armies specifically, is divided up into three sections.
- 28:02There's the regular Army that's the full time army. Those are your guys who
- 28:04serve every day at your regular basis. There's the reserves, which is like
- 28:11the regular Army, except they only serve one week and a month two weeks
- 28:15a year out of a rereserve base somewhere near their home, and both of
- 28:18those are federally funded. The National Guard. Each state's national Guard is federal
- 28:25and state funded. And that's what the difference is. They all go to
- 28:29the same basic training, they all have, use the same equipment, the
- 28:32same uniforms, everything. It's just a difference between the national Guard and the
- 28:36regular army and the reserves. It's the National Guard is state funded. So
- 28:38if there's a state disaster, the governor has the authority to call upon their
- 28:44own state national Guard. Okay, okay, Scott, let me ask you
- 28:48something. Does Michigan have a Michigan Guard, not the Michigan National Guard,
- 28:56but the Michigan Guard not the New York. New York has a has another
- 29:04component called the New York Guard, which these are uh state military officers.
- 29:14They answer to the governor. The difference between their component of the national Guard,
- 29:18the differences. They cannot be federalized, they only answer to They only
- 29:23answer to the governor. Oh okay, yeah, I I haven't heard of
- 29:29that. So they couldn't be deployed to like a foreign nation if the government.
- 29:33They can only be deployed state side. They can only be mainly deployed
- 29:38within their state. They can be lent out to another state, but they
- 29:42cannot go overseas. But they are military. They are they are state military.
- 29:48They do not the federal government is not in their chain of command,
- 29:53is never in their chain of command. They cannot be federalized. Okay.
- 29:59So they're paid or trained exclusively by New York. Yes, okay, most
- 30:03most of them are retired. Uh, most of them are retired. I
- 30:08just like I have had anything like that, and we don't. It's it's
- 30:12National Guard. It sounds like a state sponsored militia. Yeah, I mean
- 30:19like a legitimate state sponsored militia. Okay, Well, New York's got some
- 30:25interesting things like that, Like I heard recently that the New York City Police
- 30:29have offices in other cities like around the around the world, like they have
- 30:33one in Sydney, Australia, And I know, I know after nine to
- 30:37eleven, Yeah, they did a lot of proactive anti terrorism stuff. Yeah,
- 30:44you have n y p D detectives uh in Europe on like intel task
- 30:51forces and and things like that. So I wouldn't doubt it. Do you
- 30:55have an office on Falkan or does the Vulcan High Command have a embassy on
- 31:00in New York? I wonder we don't. Maybe, yeah, their way
- 31:08in. Hey, we are way off topic. Let's talk about some baseball
- 31:15in the house. Sorry, with that a little two out of the dose.
- 31:18Yeah, that's good. I tried to make it. It's subtle.
- 31:22Good, Yeah, for sure, it was very subtle, very subtle.
- 31:26All right, So Cis Cisco has uh Cisco is a recipient of the Christopher
- 31:32Pike Metal for Valor. Yeah, yes, I thought it was cool that
- 31:36they gave it, gave a nod to Pike and what's and what's best?
- 31:41What what's not? What's best. What's interesting to realize is this episode was
- 31:45shot in what like nineteen ninety seven, probably yep, Chris. At that
- 31:51point. At that point, Christopher Pike had appeared in the lost pilot of
- 31:57Star Trek and the Menagerie. That's it, that's it, that's it.
- 32:04There was no there was no Star Trek O nine, there was no Star
- 32:07Trek Into Darkness. There was no Strange New Worlds, nothing, nothing.
- 32:12So too Yeah, that was a very deep cut. So this episode originally
- 32:19October nineteenth, nineteen ninety eight. Okay, it was close, yeah,
- 32:24very close. Now, one of the I've got some trek facts for you
- 32:29for this episode two leads into that. Yeah, Like, like Daniel said,
- 32:34it was October nineteen, nineteen eighty eight, which was during the nineteen
- 32:37ninety eight World Series. Oh, so there was a little bit of a
- 32:42connection. There was was Taylor Swift there. I'm not sure Taylor Swift was
- 32:50diapers back in ninety eight, but yeah, she might not have been bored
- 32:53yet. Let's see it was the outdoor scenes on the in the Holida Deck
- 32:59were played at at Loyola Marymount University, which is in California. Yeah,
- 33:07and this is the most interesting fact I came across Ram, played by Max
- 33:16I can never get his name right, Gaden Chick. It's Although Ram has
- 33:24showed in the episode as being the worst baseball player, he is. However,
- 33:29he was the best baseball player among the cast and crew. He even
- 33:35was was considering a career in professional baseball, and so he was actually the
- 33:39best baseball player. So he had a hard time acting like he was bad.
- 33:45So he ended up just Uh. Max is right handed. Uh rom
- 33:50is throwing the ball left handed, so he had hands to make himself look
- 33:52a little bit awkward. So is that why? Is that why Cisco was
- 33:59such a dig to him? Because man, that's that's uncomfortable to watch sometimes.
- 34:07Yeah, and actually, and uh Max is the only baseball player.
- 34:15Avery Brooks, sar rock Loft and Armine Shimmerman and Aaron Eisenberg are all accomplished
- 34:20baseball players. Oh wow, So yeah, I thought it was interesting that
- 34:27they actually had a bonafide baseball player. It says here in some of the
- 34:31i MDB trivia too that uh uh Nana visitor, however, was completely in
- 34:38ft at the game, and uh Nicole de Boor was not much better DAGs.
- 34:45So those are some of the back end for this episode. If you
- 34:53look at the ball they're playing with, it has those Starfleet Delta yeah on
- 34:59the ball, right down to the ball. It's a Starfleet issue ball.
- 35:02Yep, I'm just looking at the things side I jotted down, Oh I'm
- 35:08sure. Yeah. I thought it was really cool that they chose Odo to
- 35:14be the the umpire. That was just a perfect bit of writing. I
- 35:21really enjoyed when he ejected Cisco from the game and Cisco objected and he quoted.
- 35:28He quoted the rules verbatim, and then without pausing after the definition of
- 35:36the rule, he just said, look it up, but do it in
- 35:39the stands. Yeah, gone to say something like that, right, Yeah.
- 35:50And I also I also I also found it interesting that when Cisco gets
- 35:58ejected because because O'Brien is the batting coach and the first base coach or whatever
- 36:04he becomes, he becomes the coach. Yeah. And if you think about
- 36:09so the majority of the people there are Starfleet officers, if you think about
- 36:14the chain of command, he is literally the lowest ranking Starfleet officer in that
- 36:20game because he's because he's enlisted. Everyone else is an officer and now he's
- 36:24in charge given orders. Ye. Well yeah, So running through the episode
- 36:31chronologically, can we kind of do a rundown of the episode itself, kind
- 36:36of go through it from the beginning, middle, and end different so you
- 36:40know, uh, the episode obviously starts when you know it's in the middle
- 36:46of the war. Uh. And one of the I forgot the name of
- 36:51the ship that come that's crewed by the Vulcan captain, but to Cumbra,
- 36:55to Cumbra, yep. Uh. So they come aboard, and Cisco and
- 37:00this captain are old rivals, back from the academy days, and uh he
- 37:08challenges to Cisco to a you know, a game of baseball, and Cisco
- 37:13obviously is very uh worked up about this, and and recruits all of the
- 37:20senior staff uh and uh and uh even Quark to play a game against the
- 37:25Balkans, and they all agree to do it. And he asked Odo to
- 37:30be the umpire because he wanted somebody who could be completely unbiased and he didn't
- 37:38want a computer call in the game. So what's uh, what are some
- 37:44of the highlights going into that part of the episode we can talk about just
- 37:50because I normally when we talk about episodes like this, we jumped from the
- 37:52beginning to the end, to the middle, beginning back again. So I
- 37:55just wanted to go. So I'm on the Wikipedia that the reason they made
- 38:02this episode was because of a series co creator, Michael Piller. Apparently he's
- 38:07a giant baseball fan. It was based onf an idea from Stephen R.
- 38:13Iris Stephen Bear, who apparently had written a very similarly themed baseball episode on
- 38:17a show called Fame. That episode was called The Old Ball Game. So
- 38:25m hm, yeah, that's kind of interesting. So we find out,
- 38:36so the majority of the episode takes place in the two weeks between the arrival
- 38:44of the Tacumbra and the game. So we see the practice, we see
- 38:47the team practicing, and it's a bad News Bears type story. You've got
- 38:52very much. So you got you know. Two, you got, you
- 38:55got the picture. Who knows what he's doing? Uh uh? Three for
- 39:00ANGI who have never played baseball in their life. A klingon who while he's
- 39:05physically physically strong, you know, he doesn't know baseball. He's never played
- 39:09baseball, which is a little surprising. He grew up on Earth, but
- 39:13I guess is a lost Yeah, I guess baseball is kind of lost in
- 39:17time. He did play soccer. Yeah, we know he played soccer because
- 39:23he killed the kid. That's right. To keep this light yet, yeah,
- 39:28keep it light. Thanks. Yeah. So we we find out as
- 39:37as Cisco gets frustrated throughout this two weeks trying to train this team. We
- 39:42find out through a conversation between him and Cassidy. Well, let me back
- 39:46up. Rom does terrible and Cisco throws him out of the try it.
- 39:51That's what I that's what I remember. That's what I think can't catch anything.
- 39:55Yeah, yeah, that's what I was referring to when I said Cisco
- 39:58was a dude. Yeah to Rom, this is supposed to be a friendly
- 40:04game, right, right, and we find out it's not friendly. It's
- 40:08not It's not friendly at all. So Lock has taken every opportunity over the
- 40:14last twenty years to embarrass Cisco whenever you can. Because of a bar a
- 40:19bar fight they got into back at the academy, Cisco was intoxicated. Uh,
- 40:24picked a fight with this vulcan or accept challenge him. Yeah, got
- 40:29his ass handed to him because because Penny Johnson's Cassidy A pointed out a bualcan
- 40:35is three times as strong as a human and they're faster too. Yep.
- 40:38Yeah, yeah, so what we what we find out there's a couple of
- 40:44scenes where not everybody is involved. We find out the rest of the team
- 40:46agrees that the captain was was a jerk and they're not going to play in
- 40:51the game. There's you know, if Rom's not playing, they're not playing.
- 40:57Yep, and Rom says, no, no, no, you guys
- 41:00play. I want to watch you play. We find out through the conversation
- 41:05between Cisco and Cassidy. She wants to know what's up with him. You're
- 41:08acting like a jerk, and he confides. He confides in her that Solac
- 41:15has made his life hell every time you see him for the last for the
- 41:17last twenty years. He swears her to secrecy. She immediately turns around and
- 41:22tells everybody and tells everybody. Yeah, and they and they say, let's
- 41:28win one for the Gipper, right, and they vowed, they vowed to
- 41:31go in there and give it the old college, try and do the right.
- 41:36And it's a it's a feudal gesture. They're they're getting they're getting whooped.
- 41:43They're getting whooped by the Vulcans, at which point Cisco decides, it
- 41:50doesn't matter. It is a friendly game. Just treat it like a friendly
- 41:55game. Have a good time, and what will yet under a Vulcan's skin
- 42:01better than anything is being illogical in their presence and having a good time.
- 42:10Cisco has a moment and even though they're sitting in the stands and he's sitting
- 42:15kind of near Rob who he's he kicked out, and Cisco's been kicked out
- 42:21because he uh, you know, got kicked out by Odo for you know,
- 42:23making physical contact with him, and he kind of kind of has this
- 42:28you know, Rom kind of says, boy, this this looks like a
- 42:30lot of fun. And that's when it sort of dawns on Cisco fun.
- 42:32Yeah, that's what this game is about. That ultimately, it's about heart
- 42:37and it's about fun. And he sort of has this moment where he's like,
- 42:39I got an idea, let's let's do something different here. Yeah,
- 42:44So that brings me to I wanted to real quick talk about the crowd.
- 42:51Now. During the episode, during the training there was no crowd, makes
- 42:54sense. Solot came by to scout them at one point while they're practiced,
- 42:58while the Niners are practicing, but then during the game there's a big crowd.
- 43:02And when I don't remember what my thoughts were when I first saw this
- 43:07episode back in the nineties, but subsequent viewings, I thought to myself,
- 43:12this should be I think there's something like ten thousand people on the space station,
- 43:16plus another what five hundred to one thousand Vulcans serving on the Balcan ship.
- 43:23Why was this not the biggest thing to happen on the station in a
- 43:30decade? I mean, they had two weeks because the word got around because
- 43:36nobody cares. Nobody cares Cisco, Cisco and Soloc. That's part of the
- 43:42stories. Nobody cares except these two guys, right and the ten people they
- 43:47ordered to take part in this game, right, and and and they did
- 44:00it in different ways, I imagine because it happened off screen. I imagine
- 44:04Soloc summoned his senior staff and said, uh, I'm engaging in an experiment
- 44:10with the humans on this station. You will assist me with this experiment.
- 44:17That's it. That was the only discussion. Whereas where is Cisco. Cisco
- 44:24said, assemble the senior staff, and the senior staff shows up, plus
- 44:30Nog. I didn't get that at the time, But whatever they want him
- 44:32for, you know. And and he says, we're gonna play baseball,
- 44:37and he's really excited about it, at which point all of his subordinates go,
- 44:44you know, the boss is really excited about this ship. I guess
- 44:49we're excited too. Yeah, But when it comes down to it, there's
- 44:54only two people in that holidack who give a ship about this game. Well
- 44:58three if you count Rom, because he seems to be really really excited about
- 45:02it. One thing I noticed about the crowd, which I probably didn't notice
- 45:08this when I first watched it, but that crowd is one absolutely yeah,
- 45:17we'll talk about that team bear. Yeah, that crowd is absolutely one hundred
- 45:22percent plucked off the street in nineteen ninety seven. Yeah, it absolutely looks
- 45:29like nineteen ninety seven. And at the time I probably watched it and said,
- 45:34you know, they probably went outside the soundstage onto the sidewalk, sidewalk
- 45:37and just grabs people off the stretch. Come watch a come watch a pretend
- 45:42baseball game. You want to make a hundred bucks. But yeah, so
- 45:45the hall suite, we've we've seen what the hall suite looks like when it's
- 45:51turned off. The distance from from the umpire behind home plate to the center
- 45:59fielder can I be contained within the holidayck. So I think it would have
- 46:06made more sense if, uh like they went down to Bajor and played the
- 46:15game. But yeah, okay, yeah, and then it would have been
- 46:21a big deal because the emissaries playing some old sports that they yes, yes,
- 46:27exactly, Well, then they would have had had like Yankee Stadium to
- 46:31fill in for, you know, instead of some small college. Well they're
- 46:35down in l A. So they didn't get Dodger Stadium. Oh yeah,
- 46:37Dodger Stadium. Oh but and I'm sure that's so. I love how I
- 46:45love how Wharf is still Wharf when they can't find the the the vulcan who
- 46:51who forgot to tag home plate? And Nog says, you know what do
- 46:54I do? Finds him and kill him? Find him and kill him.
- 46:59That was one of my favorite moments. And all Wharf was one hundred serious
- 47:05that, Yeah, he's he's still Wharf. When they're rasing the batter swing
- 47:09about a wee about a wee about it, we about it. Just to
- 47:12the opposition, he's still warf. Wharf was the most Wharf in this and
- 47:19yeah, I loved him in this episode. Uh he sure did give it
- 47:22all. Yeah. There was somebody on the Instagram account said that if they
- 47:28played the game ons win would throw the first ball the first Yeah, oh
- 47:34yeah, you don't want to say that. Yeah. Yeah, it's coded,
- 47:40it's coded with poison. But you know, right, but hey,
- 47:47do we want to drag the sweet thing? Huh? What's being too small?
- 47:54Oh yeah I just said that it will No, I I'm talking about
- 48:00the tech technical thing. Oh yeah, I wanted to nerd out about it
- 48:05a little bit. I've read, like the Technical Manual of the Enterprise D
- 48:08talks about the Holow deck a little bit. And from my understanding, if
- 48:13the hollow suites are the same as the holodecks, they can create force perspective
- 48:16changes. So even if you're only ten feet apart, the Holi deck can
- 48:21create sort of a prism effect and make the person that's ten feet apart,
- 48:25that's ten feet away from you, look even further away. So the Holow
- 48:29deck is really good at force perspective changes, so as long as you can
- 48:32physically fit so many people inside the hollow suite, which I'll also like to
- 48:38point out that I think the hollow suites are generally larger than the Huh you
- 48:45said you read one of the tech manuals. Yeah, warning warning, NERD
- 48:51alert, NERD alert, Yep, that's for you. Yeah, cover cover.
- 48:57Here's here's the thing I've Yeah, I have seen that. However,
- 49:05you're standing at home plate, you hit a ball, you hit a ground
- 49:09ball up the third base line. You you run full speed towards first base.
- 49:21The distance between home plate and first base is too big for the holidack.
- 49:25If the ground if the ground and your perspective are changing underneath your feet
- 49:30and in front of your face. I mean, you're gonna get dizzy.
- 49:35You're gonna you can't get dizzy because I don't know. The visuals are going
- 49:40to take care of that. And the holid deck has uh it's called in
- 49:44the technical manually call it a treadmill effect. So the holid deck underneath your
- 49:50feet can act as a treadmill. Yeah, okay, I think you're You're
- 49:53still gonna you're gonna lose your balance though, because running on a treadmill and
- 49:57running on the street are not the same thing. When you run on a
- 50:00treadmill, you are shifting your weight back and forth from one leg to the
- 50:04other. There's no you're not generating any forward momentum. Correct, But that's
- 50:08how they like the way that I'm oh, I'm really trying to unbury myself
- 50:13here. Yep, I got nothing. That's like, what about if you're
- 50:20a single person on the holiday, can you go for a jog? Can
- 50:23you run around? You know, running a straight line for a mile.
- 50:28And it feels kind of like this is this thing, it's the real life
- 50:30thing Disney made. It's like a treadmill that you can use VR with,
- 50:35yes, and that one you can it's three sixty right, you can run
- 50:39right? Yeah, Okay, listen, I took a I took a chandelier
- 50:45down playing we basketball ten years ago. Yeah, there are there are certain
- 50:53limitations to all technology. Did you have your safeties turned off? Yeah?
- 51:00I didngaged Yeah. Yeah, that's hey my iPad. My iPad's at four
- 51:06percent. If I lose you guys, I'll switch to the phone and be
- 51:07right back. Yes, okay, so you know, all right, all
- 51:12right? Well, anything else we want to say about this episode? Uh?
- 51:16I just wanted to say I had one more note in here that the
- 51:22title itself, take Me Out the Holla Sue, was based on obviously,
- 51:27take Me Out to the Ball Game, which was written in nineteen oh eight
- 51:30and is the unofficial anthem of baseball. Okay, Yeah. One thing that
- 51:36I was disappointed about nobody's eating hot dogs. Yeah, that's like a baseball
- 51:44thing. They even mentioned it in No, that was a different episode.
- 51:52Uh, Kira was told about hot dogs. Mm hmm. I think they
- 52:00were gonna, yeah, they were gonna go see a baseball game. Yeah.
- 52:06Yeah, I feel like they missed they missed an opportunity where you know,
- 52:10Quark does a little bit of research and and you know he shows for
- 52:16yeah minimum, yep, yep, a tray full of hot dogs and beer
- 52:22and cracker Jacks and beer cracker Jacks, yeah, which is mentioned. Didn't
- 52:29take me out to the ball game, that's right. I think that's the
- 52:31only reason Cracker Jacks are still alive as a company. Probably. Yeah.
- 52:39All right, well, let's let's get to listener feedback. Then listener feedback.
- 52:52Have we had any voicemails voicemails, No, we did get some.
- 52:59Just mentioned on the on the Truck account that a lot of people did love
- 53:04this episode. There was a lot of feedback like, oh my god,
- 53:07that's my favorite episode. So did they all sounded like that? They all
- 53:13sounded like every single one, Oh my god, Yes, that's fantastic.
- 53:22It's weird how you can put that into text, but they did to chamber
- 53:24that voice. And all right, we got we got a few people in
- 53:30the line, so let's get to him. Uh, the first one that
- 53:34Clement is t Bear. There, he is t Bear. Every guest,
- 53:40that's my daughter, Phoebe. Phoebe, where are you going? Honey?
- 53:46Hello? Breakfast on the micro right now, So okay, we'll be on
- 53:54our best behavior, that's right. Yeah, not any worse than I probably
- 53:58am sometimes. So it's not D and D. She just blow up your
- 54:07spot. Yeah, so what had are you wearing? She's multiplying. There's
- 54:14just two of them, just two of them now they're multiplying. Did you
- 54:16throw water on them? What happened the other one? I just it was
- 54:21a transporter cloning accident. So there you Yeah, yeah, the camel right
- 54:28now going. Dad is such a nerd, they know that. Yeah,
- 54:34I wonder what my kids are thinking. I'm the one hosting this thing.
- 54:37Yeah, exactly exactly. I think you're asking, which this is a Dodger
- 54:43cap, So Ellie Rodgers and the ram I'm sure you know because they're not
- 54:47playing today. No, every team were in the playoffs. Were my team's
- 54:54not playing either? The race Daniel's throwing shade. Yeah, yeah, I
- 55:01think I saw a similar one for the Cowboys where they're going to play every
- 55:05Super Bowl in the future at the stadium in Dallas. So that way,
- 55:08no team ever has a got my team the Lions, so they had a
- 55:16they had a tough, tough one to Lions did a fantastic job. They
- 55:22got further than they've gotten in a long time. I was reading for the
- 55:25Lions because I'm not really a Niners, but yeah, yeah, I guess
- 55:30it was everybody against Casey because you know, when you know, there's a
- 55:34thing called fantasy football, So it's just thing when I nuraged records and take
- 55:39the stats and then record them and then football. And yeah, I had
- 55:49Kelsey and Majmes is my fantasy team, h top picks, and they just
- 55:53disappointed the whole season and ended up in the last place in my league.
- 55:57So I don't know what the rest of my league, it's our have planned
- 56:00for me next time we draft, because there's usually something for the last place.
- 56:04But uh yeah, so I blame them. So I was just going
- 56:07against him the whole time, and sure enough to keep winning every single game.
- 56:10So here we are today. Yeah, well, I am I am
- 56:14rooting for. I am rooting for the stuffed Crush Pizza and the Boneless Chicken
- 56:19Wings, and I have a feeling my team's gonna come through for me.
- 56:23Dude. Stuff Cross Pizza is my favorite. Yeah, yeah, I'm a
- 56:29fan. Have you seen the Paramount Plus commercial with Uh. Yes, I
- 56:37love how Patrick Stewart is on that whole episode that Oh yes, he heaps
- 56:42off his shirt. He's wearing the old football. Yes. Yeah, it's
- 56:45like nineteen forty two football. Yeah, it's official that he doesn't care at
- 56:53all. It's official, like the end when he looks at Pepper Fagley like
- 56:57we need something with pigskin. Yes, it was Greod. Yeah, that
- 57:07was awesome. I couldn't stop laughing. And it was funny the actual to
- 57:14a quarterback for the Dolphins. It was funny to see that he couldn't make
- 57:17a throw in the cold, which I don't know if they filmed that before
- 57:21the game or it was good timing or what, but I thought that was
- 57:25perfect casting on there. That's funny. Yeah. So who do you think
- 57:30is gonna win tonight? I have a feeling it's going to be the Chiefs.
- 57:37Yeah, yeah, and it's going to be pretty close, but it's
- 57:39going to be the Chiefs. Believe that they get to win. What the
- 57:44script said, I am roody for the forty nine ers only because there's a
- 57:47couple of Moody and Bell are former Michigan players, and so I'm a big
- 57:53Michigan fan. So that's that's my reasoning. Plus, they haven't won a
- 57:57super Bowl a while, so you know, you said Michigan is earlier,
- 58:00and all I could picture was geese for some reason, make you feel more
- 58:06comfortable? Does that all the super Bowl commercial has been released before the super
- 58:15Bowl? Yeah, that's kind of true. A lot of them have.
- 58:17I didn't really. I made it a point not to watch them well before
- 58:21the super Bowl. I try to watch them in the moment, just because
- 58:23you know, it's part of the fun of the super Bowl. I did
- 58:27read something where they were saying a lot of companies went really conservative on their
- 58:32ads because they're afraid of some kind of backlash or another. And I'm like,
- 58:37that just kills it, because some of the greatest ads in the Super
- 58:39Bowl were kind of borderline pushed the envelope a little bit. I mean,
- 58:43yeah, if I was a company, I would just tag my new commercial
- 58:46as the super Bowl commercial. You don't have to pay for it, there
- 58:50go. Yeah, all the SEO would just be like, oh, that's
- 58:52the super Bowl commercial. Yea, yeah yeah. So did is trek As
- 59:01doing a super Bowl commercial? Yes, I'll do it next. Okay,
- 59:09we don't have to do a full thirty second ad. We can just do
- 59:12a fifteen second ad. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the coffee account should
- 59:15should account for that, right, the account has enough money to buy a
- 59:23coffee count has enough money to buy a cameo from two buck book eyes.
- 59:28That's yeah, I was gonna say, I don't think we could afford a
- 59:30beer at the Yeah, right, anything else you want to bring up to
- 59:39you there, uh, just just the hog Sweet episode. I think the
- 59:44only reason why it was the first time I actually saw sports related stuff that's
- 59:47actually in Star Trek. Yeah, that's I guess for modern or current sports.
- 59:53And I've always joked is actually it survived into what the twenty fourth century
- 1:00:00so well, so at least at least a sport. I don't know about
- 1:00:04the leagues or anything like that, but yeah, I always use that when
- 1:00:08someone comes up to me and says which sport's better? In Baseball last until
- 1:00:13twenty fourth century, I don't know basketball and everything else. Although in the
- 1:00:19Wishes Were Horses episode, I think that's the name of the episode What Fuck
- 1:00:22the Kai mentions that during the World Series of twenty there was only fifteen hundred
- 1:00:32people in the stands. Yeah, but Jassidy's brother plays in the league because
- 1:00:39they were starting to back up and that was the big thing. Yeah that's
- 1:00:43true. Yeah, yep, so that survived. Yeah it was retros.
- 1:00:47I'm just waiting for it for them to start playing it in disco. Yeah,
- 1:00:54yes, that was for you to Oh that would be awesome. I
- 1:01:04bet that. I bet something could be arranged. That'd be great. Something
- 1:01:07could be arranged. Talk to them, see what they say. Okay,
- 1:01:13all right, yeah, in fact, I'll make a note of it her.
- 1:01:15Okay, cool, all right, t Bear, thanks for being on
- 1:01:19you guys. Yeah. And then we also have got Swifty Swift. Yeah
- 1:01:27there he is there, he is, all right, Swift. I said
- 1:01:30a more tinfoil hat today. The conspiracy theory. Okay, which conspiracy Taylor
- 1:01:38Swift? Oh yeah, who she's gonna vote for? Oh there, she's
- 1:01:49gonna endorse making it you get to fly in from Japan? Yeah she had.
- 1:01:54They had stupid news of her landing the ding i'n airplane. Yeah where
- 1:02:00land is like just landed in Las Vegas. Oh come on, guys,
- 1:02:09it's just the same. It's like, I don't think howers or something.
- 1:02:15Yeah, I mean gets the flyer private jet gets to lay down, doesn't
- 1:02:22have to be in the whole time. Yeah, somebody farting on you?
- 1:02:27So well planes are you flying on spirit? Man? That's great. You've
- 1:02:40gotta bring brass knuckles when you fly now. So it's crazy up there now,
- 1:02:46especially you see all those videos. So yeah. Two Bary mentioned baseball
- 1:02:52with Discovery where they have detachable baseball clubs to catch the ball. Oh god,
- 1:03:00you're just stop bad, just stop. Oh wait till wait till April.
- 1:03:07Man, it's gonna get you think it's bad, now, wait till
- 1:03:10April with Discovery season five comes out. Yeah, we're gonna have to templates
- 1:03:16just with Dan Dan Discovery, Like one panel can be uh uh Green Snico
- 1:03:27Martin Green, the other panel can be Dan like the Enterprise Discovery with all
- 1:03:32my working this week, guys, how many how many episodes are there?
- 1:03:37Ten? Yeah? Maybe maybe I'll take a ten week leave of absence.
- 1:03:45What you do you don't charge your batteries on your phone or your laptop?
- 1:03:52Right there? You go short it out. The Bath program will matter,
- 1:04:00Yeah, I can't tell you. There will be There will be some pack
- 1:04:06lid reviews of Star Trek Discovery, so that will great Kelpian cried and ruined
- 1:04:14baseball. That's what happened. Dan's going to be saving a lot of dogs.
- 1:04:18Hot dogs. Yes, that's what. Don't sit near the doors if
- 1:04:27you fly Alaskans. That the one where the door just flew off. Yeah,
- 1:04:30yeah, Alaskan. That's the new Boeing jet. Yeah, it's gonna
- 1:04:34say that. Yeah, it's Boeing's fault. Apparently they have. Yeah,
- 1:04:43yeah, yeah, the support beams were bowing, right American American dad joke.
- 1:04:55That's my dad joke. So, jaz, who do you think is
- 1:04:57gonna win tonight? Uh? Taylor Swift, that's right, yeah, Taylor
- 1:05:02Swift. And then Travis Kelsey will propose, and then'll be the greatest in
- 1:05:09the world if he proposes right then and there? Oh god yeah, and
- 1:05:16then he gets to the engagement ring. Out, I'm out of here.
- 1:05:19Look. I love rigged sports, right, I love pro wrestling, but
- 1:05:23that's too much, Yeah, rigs sports. After that, everybody's gonna say
- 1:05:30this, this ship's rigged. So oh yeah, for sure. Yeah.
- 1:05:33I can't wait for all the all the twitter like, oh this is here's
- 1:05:38the script, all the pictures that will be up. Oh yeah, oh
- 1:05:41yeah, social media is gonna be a buzz. Yeah, man. Then
- 1:05:45those pictures will come out right after maybe the first quarter, where people like,
- 1:05:47see here's the first quarter. One after what just happened, someone will
- 1:05:50write it out. You know what I hate right now is how they spoil
- 1:05:55the commercials before they air. The company is doing that up well. In
- 1:06:00the nineties, right used to like sit there and you'd watch the commercials because
- 1:06:04you didn't have the internet, so you had to watch the bud Wiser commercial,
- 1:06:08you had to watch the bud Bowl and then all those so but they
- 1:06:13realized they can get more traction and more eyeballs by releasing them early because people
- 1:06:16talk about it, and that's the buzz. That's what I don't know that
- 1:06:18I think I remember more people talking about them in the nineties than I do
- 1:06:21now. To be honest with you, I don't know, man. I've
- 1:06:26seen YouTube reviews. Let's review the super Bowl commercials. It's so dumb.
- 1:06:30Well, yeah, because what they'll do is they'll do it frame by frame.
- 1:06:32They'll have this Super Bowl commercial, then they'll play it and I'll be
- 1:06:35like ha ha, and then they'll TikTok and do their own commentary. So
- 1:06:43that's kind of like the easiest way to do your own show now on a
- 1:06:48podcast or YouTube is just take a show and just break it down. So,
- 1:06:58oh, one, you just in the super Bowl. What are you
- 1:07:00gonna do? Now? I'm gonna marry Taylor Swift? Yeah, you're very
- 1:07:05probably right. Probably then then you're instant billionaire. Now you gotta deal with
- 1:07:11Taylor Swift. Yeah. Well, I love the idea that she's only with
- 1:07:14him for the money, like come on, yeah, yeah, no,
- 1:07:17no, no, she's only with him so she can make another song about
- 1:07:21the breakup. There you go, that's the whole album. Yeah, that
- 1:07:27her heart's broken. She made all these friends and then I have to have
- 1:07:31to separate. But the but the real breakup is the friends who made on
- 1:07:35the way. Yes, yes, let's write the song right now. That's
- 1:07:43right, that's right. You need a little drum machine back there or something,
- 1:07:48you know, the Yeah, all right, did you else you want
- 1:07:58to bring up? Well, mister Wheaton wrote a letter. Oh yeah,
- 1:08:04yeah, yeah, So just don't strangle muppets and you'll be all right.
- 1:08:11That's all I gotta say. Don't strangle up. I try not to strangle
- 1:08:14muppets every day but it's hard. I strangle every muppet I see on the
- 1:08:18street. There you go. Will Wheaton be damned? Well, I guess
- 1:08:28I think. Yeah, Larry, Larry David assaulted Elmo on the news somehow
- 1:08:36just to him and did that, you know, just yeah. And then
- 1:08:40Will Wheaton has this whole essay of Will Wheaton lost his ship. Look on
- 1:08:47the Facebook group and you'll see it, you know. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:08:51Will needs Will needs to chill out a little bit. Yeah yeah, well,
- 1:08:56like not like just screaming and yelling at him if you're written it in
- 1:09:01a normal manner, like why it's wrong, but the way he did it,
- 1:09:05he did it in a total rant, you know. Yeah, to
- 1:09:11be fair, Elmo is read so the instant you see him, you just
- 1:09:14rage, you know, like a yeah mm hmmm. Larry probably heard that
- 1:09:20voice and is like, I can't take it anymore. It's like if you
- 1:09:24I mean, it's like an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm If you watch the
- 1:09:28whole thing, That's exactly what Larry would do. He would go up there
- 1:09:31and then somebody would write this letter and yell at him exactly. How episode
- 1:09:39is it possible that all this was staged? If it is to be the
- 1:09:43greatest episode of her you mean or no, yeah, no, no,
- 1:09:48just because we're all talking about it now, right right, Yeah, Well
- 1:09:54we'll read it, Scott, and you're gonna be like, oh my god,
- 1:09:57okay, I will, Yeah, I will, because when you're eat
- 1:10:00it, it'll be my halftime shows. I mean, it makes sense in
- 1:10:03other ways because it's you know, it's like, yes, you know,
- 1:10:06physical abuse is bad, but yeah, there's the thing is like Bart Simpson
- 1:10:13and and Homer, Like what did you always see Homer? Dude? He
- 1:10:15always strangled Bart? Yeah yeah, and then all the old cartoons back in
- 1:10:19the day we grew up with. That's that was the thing, you know,
- 1:10:25right right, I don't know, just chill chill out, will yep?
- 1:10:34Yeah, dance I'm moving, I'm moving. Oh yeah, all right?
- 1:10:41Well anything else? Got a cross shot right there? We got cross
- 1:10:47ye put all right, there is there is? Oh it will ask asking
- 1:11:00the real questions. What's next you Today? I'm going to make my own
- 1:11:08ranch dip for the first time. I've never done that before Helman's ranch or
- 1:11:14just yeah. When I say my own, I mean yeah, it's one
- 1:11:20step above the jar, and I got some balance ranch mayonnaise milk together before.
- 1:11:30It's pretty good. Oh yeah, I mean I didn't actually grow all
- 1:11:35the herbs and spices and culture the sour creamy myself. But that what you're
- 1:11:44saying pretty much. Make sure the taking, to make sure the barometer is
- 1:11:48set right. You know, I think I did use separate sentences and that
- 1:11:56I think I was using two separate analogies. Dan, Dan, I'm gonna
- 1:12:04send you a very stern text message after this one over here. It's gonna
- 1:12:09say screw you. Yeah, well you gotta me. That's your job,
- 1:12:16you say, and I made fun of you for it. That's how it
- 1:12:19works. We discussed that from the interview. That's right. Terms. Now,
- 1:12:28do you think Chad is blasting Taylor Swift music right now? Getting I'm
- 1:12:34gonna call him there and find out. Yes, I'm gonna win. I'm
- 1:12:39gonna root for Kansas City to win, just just just for my buddy Chad.
- 1:12:44Okay. In reality, I couldn't carry. I hate the forty nine
- 1:12:47ers. I'm a Dallas Cowboy fan, so I hate the forty nine ers.
- 1:12:55Okay, So I guess it's uh me and you, Daniel, Okay,
- 1:13:00So I really don't care yeah. Yeah, the Lions are out.
- 1:13:05Tom Brady doesn't play anymore. So Kcy Masterpiece is one of my favorite barbecue
- 1:13:10sauce is so gotcha. Hey, you gotta make a connection somehow. I'll
- 1:13:16tell you this. Texas barbecue is better than Kansas City. Oh man shots
- 1:13:23fired. Yeah, well see they like the smell of theres and barbecue sauce.
- 1:13:30Texas barbecue is the grill and then it just falls off the phone.
- 1:13:34Then you dip a barbecue sauce. Yeah, so I'm making me hungry.
- 1:13:39I'm probably gonna I'm probably gonna upset a lot of people. But my all
- 1:13:44time favorite barbecue sauce is McDonald's barbecue sauce. Yeah. Okay, everybody who
- 1:13:53just heard that, keep in mind upset. Yeah exactly like my wife,
- 1:14:00you don't want no, that's terrible opinion. Or the bottle that was on
- 1:14:05the shelf of the store. I would, man, sweet, don't anybody
- 1:14:14photoshop what Dan just did? No, don't don't anyone do. They got
- 1:14:19a cross shaw today and now he's yeah, so whatever, I like that.
- 1:14:28I broke it. I broke Scott where it's my beauty. But all
- 1:14:40right, we lost Scott. His sas is turning around, okay, and
- 1:14:48we're back exactly. Oh, I'm starting to cry so emotional. Suppose I
- 1:14:59suppose was me saying that McDonald's barbecue sauce is my favorite barbecue sauce is not
- 1:15:05that much different than you guys in Chicago putting that ship in front of me
- 1:15:11and telling me it was pizza. That's right, Hey, you said,
- 1:15:18yeah, I say a lot of things. Didn't you say it was blasagna
- 1:15:24on bread or something like that. It was pizza soup in a bread bowl,
- 1:15:30you know. And actually, in Dan's defense, you know, he
- 1:15:33said he likes the McDonald's barbecue sauce. I got to thinking, I like
- 1:15:38the Arby's sauce, which is barbecue sauce. So yeah, okay, it's
- 1:15:43good. And I actually have bought Arbie's sauce in a bottle WOWNDS, which
- 1:15:50is our local home improvements home improvement story. I buy all that. There's
- 1:16:00expiration dates nineteen ninety eight on it, right, it's aged swifty. Yeah,
- 1:16:10okay, well thanks for being on there. I think for food all
- 1:16:18right, anything else we want to bring up before we wrap it up?
- 1:16:21No, speaking of food, cat uh we should uh we should talk a
- 1:16:28little bit about Star Trek food sometime in the near future. Oh yeah,
- 1:16:30yeah, yeah, we'll do that. I'd like to real real quick.
- 1:16:34Let me respond to Tea Tea Bear that barbecue sauce belongs nowhere near pizza,
- 1:16:40indeed, nowhere near about barbecue chicken pizza. I was just gonna say that,
- 1:16:44man. Yeah, nope, what okay, nope? All right,
- 1:16:48come on, all right, well listen, I will get car and drive
- 1:16:51over there and explain to you why. I'll show you this point and I'll
- 1:16:56show you this I understand. Fair. It's a ten hour drive from your
- 1:17:01place to my place. So I will see you just after the super Bowl.
