- 0:35Speaker 2: Football is here, College Football kick us Off.
- 0:37Speaker 3: It's the best.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Well look. NFL Week one is next week, but the
- 0:40Speaker 1: twenty twenty five college football season has actually started. I
- 0:44Speaker 1: watched the game between Iowa State and Kansas State from
- 0:47Speaker 1: Dublin the other day, So what better time then now
- 0:55Speaker 1: to welcome back in Action Network's College football birds superstars
- 1:02Speaker 1: Ogs Stucky and Colin Wilson, host of the wildly popular
- 1:08Speaker 1: podcast Big Bets on Campus, to discuss the upcoming season.
- 1:11Speaker 1: They're going to give out their favorite bets for college
- 1:14Speaker 1: Football Week one, which starts on Thursday, goes all the
- 1:17Speaker 1: way through the special TCU UNC standalone primetime game on
- 1:23Speaker 1: Labor Day. I don't know why people would be interested
- 1:26Speaker 1: in the University of North Carolina's football team. Huh, Colin
- 1:31Speaker 1: Stucky great to see you boys. Welcome back, Colin. How
- 1:35Speaker 1: are you?
- 1:36Speaker 4: I mean, I'm doing well.
- 1:37Speaker 5: Like my son met Stucky for the first time the
- 1:40Speaker 5: other day in Chicago at the BBOC Live event, and
- 1:43Speaker 5: he's a freshman in college and he said, I've been
- 1:46Speaker 5: listening to this guy in my living room since I
- 1:48Speaker 5: was ten years old.
- 1:49Speaker 4: That's how long we've been doing this.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Right away, blew me away, Stucky, did that aige.
- 1:55Speaker 6: You I've already been aged enough. And yeah, it was
- 2:01Speaker 6: not pleasure to meet him. A really good kid, and
- 2:04Speaker 6: it was nice to meet a bunch of people at
- 2:06Speaker 6: Joe's that showed up for the watch party. But now
- 2:09Speaker 6: that was like my last breath of freedom. Now it's
- 2:14Speaker 6: time to lock in from now until April, after college
- 2:18Speaker 6: basketball is over. So I'm excited. It's good to be back,
- 2:21Speaker 6: and we have a great slate to get things started.
- 2:25Speaker 6: It's don stop college football from Thursday through Monday, and
- 2:30Speaker 6: we're recording this on Monday. And yesterday was the last
- 2:37Speaker 6: Sunday that we won't have any football until February. So
- 2:43Speaker 6: I hope everyone enjoyed the peace and quiet, a little
- 2:45Speaker 6: piece and quiet on Sunday, because every Saturday and Sunday.
- 2:48Speaker 6: From here on out, it's nothing but football. So I
- 2:51Speaker 6: couldn't be more excited.
- 2:52Speaker 1: All right, So let's set the table for the biggest
- 2:55Speaker 1: game of the biggest games this weekend. We're talking about
- 3:00Speaker 1: out number one Texas with arch Manning going to Ohio State.
- 3:05Speaker 1: The number one team is the underdog to the defending
- 3:09Speaker 1: National Championships champions. The Ohio State Buckeyes game is at
- 3:13Speaker 1: noon Saturday. Boys, Colin will start with you set the
- 3:19Speaker 1: table for us on this game and the impact it
- 3:23Speaker 1: potentially has in the upcoming season.
- 3:24Speaker 4: Well, it's a revenge game if you want to play
- 3:26Speaker 4: that angle.
- 3:27Speaker 5: And also we hope that Sark doesn't start calling tosses
- 3:29Speaker 5: to the outside of the goal line. But in reality,
- 3:32Speaker 5: Arch Manning should cook here because the Ohio State defensive
- 3:35Speaker 5: line is a major downgrade here. And you know that
- 3:37Speaker 5: you want to run RPO with arch Manning over the middle,
- 3:40Speaker 5: over the guards, over the center. He's got both of
- 3:42Speaker 5: the running backs back from last year. There is not
- 3:44Speaker 5: a single unit for Texas that is not considered number
- 3:47Speaker 5: one or number two in the nation. They have a
- 3:49Speaker 5: major advantage here, and I'll let Stuck you talk about it.
- 3:52Speaker 5: But Matt Patricia as a coordinator is one of the
- 3:55Speaker 5: biggest downgrades I could ever make in the world. When
- 3:57Speaker 5: you lose Chip Kelly and Jimp Knowles and you're fielding,
- 4:00Speaker 5: Patricia is your defensive coordinator. I mean, he's responsible for
- 4:03Speaker 5: one loss on the Buckeye schedule somewhere.
- 4:06Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm close to market. Colin got some three. I
- 4:10Speaker 6: wanted some three. I never got around to it, which
- 4:13Speaker 6: was unfortunate because that's the bet that I liked here.
- 4:16Speaker 6: The undertook some money too, But I think that, you know,
- 4:19Speaker 6: if I have to pick who wins this game, I
- 4:20Speaker 6: do think Texas wins it. But there's a lot of
- 4:23Speaker 6: uncertainty at quarterback for both I mean for both teams.
- 4:26Speaker 6: And that's that's the story of this entire college football season.
- 4:30Speaker 6: You look at a lot of the top teams in
- 4:33Speaker 6: the country, it's quarterback uncertainty. Are they going to hit
- 4:37Speaker 6: at quarterback?
- 4:38Speaker 4: Is it?
- 4:38Speaker 6: You know, you could go to Alabama, New Starter, you
- 4:41Speaker 6: could go to Ohio State, even Notre Dame, and we're
- 4:45Speaker 6: gonna see for the first time a lot of these
- 4:46Speaker 6: kids this weekend. That's pretty much what's going to determine,
- 4:50Speaker 6: you know, who wins the national title, who gets into
- 4:52Speaker 6: the College bable playoff? Who makes a run is which
- 4:54Speaker 6: of these top teams hit on their quarterback and then
- 4:57Speaker 6: on the flip side, which of them miss and they
- 4:59Speaker 6: actually have a quarter problem. We do have a little
- 5:01Speaker 6: more certainty with arch Manning. He has all the tools,
- 5:04Speaker 6: but it's not like we've seen him be a full
- 5:06Speaker 6: time starter for a full season, so there's still uncertainty there.
- 5:09Speaker 6: And then saying that quarterback from Ohio State obviously super
- 5:13Speaker 6: talented kid, but the reports in camp weren't necessarily glowing.
- 5:17Speaker 6: And that's the same with Notre Dame in car who
- 5:20Speaker 6: won the job. So I think I feel a little
- 5:23Speaker 6: bit more confident with Texas's quarterback situation going into the weekend,
- 5:28Speaker 6: but certainly nothing is a given with all the uncertainty
- 5:31Speaker 6: and lack of experience, not an easy place to play,
- 5:34Speaker 6: but Colin hit on The difference here could be just
- 5:37Speaker 6: Stark versus Patricia on that side of the ball and
- 5:42Speaker 6: what Texas has called up and then the downgrade at
- 5:45Speaker 6: the defensive coordinator position with Ohio State, so should be
- 5:48Speaker 6: a good one to kick things off. And then you know,
- 5:51Speaker 6: throughout the weekend, Miami Notre Dame on Sunday, which I
- 5:55Speaker 6: would maybe look at a first half under. The under
- 5:57Speaker 6: has been taking money all summer. Field condition, there could
- 6:01Speaker 6: be some weather. We got to start talking about weather again,
- 6:04Speaker 6: but there could be some weather there. And Notre Dame.
- 6:07Speaker 6: I mentioned car he asked there's some questions there. He
- 6:11Speaker 6: didn't run away with a job. There was you know,
- 6:14Speaker 6: two weeks ago many people thought he wasn't even gonna
- 6:16Speaker 6: win the job. So we'll see how he performs. But
- 6:19Speaker 6: their defense still should be very good. I imagine on
- 6:22Speaker 6: the road at Miami, they're gonna treat them with kids gloves.
- 6:24Speaker 6: Theyre probably gonna be pretty conservative early, and then Miami's
- 6:27Speaker 6: offense is going to go from the you know, arguably
- 6:29Speaker 6: the best in the country last year with cam Ward
- 6:32Speaker 6: all those receivers to a much They're gonna look extremely different.
- 6:38Speaker 6: They're probably gonna be more run heavy. Their defense should
- 6:41Speaker 6: be a little better. So I imagine that game is
- 6:43Speaker 6: you know, pretty slow and slow developing, especially in the start.
- 6:48Speaker 6: I might feel more comfortable with the first half under
- 6:50Speaker 6: like twenty four, just because if there are questions with
- 6:53Speaker 6: Carr and you know, Notre Dame gets behind or you know,
- 6:55Speaker 6: one of those teams has to start throwing. You know,
- 6:57Speaker 6: you could see some mistakes, but I do think game
- 7:00Speaker 6: starts out slow. But I'm mainly just excited to see
- 7:03Speaker 6: some of these young quarterbacks on these top teams and
- 7:06Speaker 6: who may have hit and who didn't.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Jed, I know we're gonna get the futures, but I
- 7:10Speaker 2: gotta know since we touched, you know, the Notre Dame
- 7:13Speaker 2: Miami game, this Clemson LSU game?
- 7:15Speaker 3: Am I the sucker? Stucky?
- 7:16Speaker 2: Am I the sucker taking them minus three and a
- 7:19Speaker 2: half on Clemson?
- 7:20Speaker 3: Where am I? Like, again, it's all about the d
- 7:22Speaker 3: line for me. Whe where you at in this game?
- 7:24Speaker 2: Where I'm so happy, excited for how they line these
- 7:27Speaker 2: schedules up. And this is another game that to me
- 7:29Speaker 2: is just a jug or not Clemson LSU Week one.
- 7:32Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I'm I'm lower than the market on
- 7:35Speaker 6: Clemson and higher on LSU. But my big concern I
- 7:38Speaker 6: don't think I mean, it's a it's a pretty fair line, uh,
- 7:42Speaker 6: to be honest, But my biggest concern is the LSU
- 7:46Speaker 6: offensive line this season. Right you lose four to the NFL,
- 7:50Speaker 6: there's still two position positions that are unsettled along the
- 7:53Speaker 6: offensive line, and they still have oars. They still haven't decided.
- 7:56Speaker 6: You're probably you might have two freshmen starting tackles like
- 7:59Speaker 6: there's a lot of unst and on that offensive line,
- 8:00Speaker 6: they did bring in two transfers. One's going to start
- 8:02Speaker 6: at center, one's going to start at guard. But that
- 8:04Speaker 6: offensive line going up against Clemson's defensive line, which is
- 8:09Speaker 6: one of the best in the country, and it's on
- 8:10Speaker 6: the road in a hot file environment, that could be
- 8:13Speaker 6: the difference. Now, if LSU's offensive line is together and
- 8:16Speaker 6: they have a good showing there, that is an outstanding
- 8:20Speaker 6: sign for the rest of the season, because we'll see
- 8:23Speaker 6: if they have a running game. Last year, even though
- 8:24Speaker 6: they had a bunch of guys who were drafted, a
- 8:26Speaker 6: bunch of guys went to the NFL, they couldn't run
- 8:29Speaker 6: the ball at all. They just couldn't figure out their
- 8:31Speaker 6: zone run blocking. And LSU is basically just all throwing
- 8:35Speaker 6: and they had great pass protection. So there's a chance
- 8:38Speaker 6: that that takes a tumble and we're going to find
- 8:40Speaker 6: out in Week one. But if this new offensive line
- 8:43Speaker 6: can come together and actually provide a semblance of a
- 8:46Speaker 6: rushing attack to give Garrettnsmyer some balance, then LSU's offense
- 8:51Speaker 6: I think would have potentially an even higher ceiling. But
- 8:55Speaker 6: that's the key matchup there on the road week one.
- 8:59Speaker 6: You still don't have two starters decide, and you're going
- 9:01Speaker 6: up against a ferocious defensive line. Ultimately, everything just could
- 9:06Speaker 6: crumble for nuss Meyer behind that unit. But that's that's
- 9:09Speaker 6: really what I'm watching because it's gonna tell us a
- 9:11Speaker 6: lot about LSU. Doesn't mean they can't get it together
- 9:14Speaker 6: later on in the season, but if it's just a disaster,
- 9:18Speaker 6: I'm definitely gonna pause my some of my optimism on
- 9:22Speaker 6: what this LSU team can do this year. And it's
- 9:24Speaker 6: Brian Kelly. Brian Kelly never wins Week one. It's like
- 9:27Speaker 6: it will be a storyline going into this game. You'll
- 9:30Speaker 6: hear a lot about that. We saw it again last
- 9:32Speaker 6: year against USC out in Las Vegas. But yeah, I
- 9:37Speaker 6: that's the that's the thing that I'm worried about the
- 9:39Speaker 6: most in that game.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Well so again before we get the futures then, because
- 9:43Speaker 1: we got to get the futures and we got to
- 9:45Speaker 1: get to Week one picks. But Colin, you know, Stuck
- 9:48Speaker 1: just mentioned nuss Meyer and Clemson has cade Klubnick and
- 9:54Speaker 1: Penn State has Drew Aller, and like there's the kid
- 9:57Speaker 1: in Sellers in in South Carolina. I'm already seeing the
- 10:04Speaker 1: hype machine working with these guys. I watch enough college
- 10:08Speaker 1: football to be relatively unimpressed with every guy I just mentioned.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I think, except for Sellers, who probably was the most
- 10:18Speaker 1: athletic and the best combination of runner and passer, the
- 10:22Speaker 1: other guy is just to me, felt like due to
- 10:25Speaker 1: have been there forever, who tend to make bad throws
- 10:29Speaker 1: at the worst possible time. So why all of a
- 10:32Speaker 1: sudden is everyone freaking out about these guys Is if
- 10:34Speaker 1: they're like the second coming of great quarterbacks when they
- 10:37Speaker 1: don't seem to be that given their past history.
- 10:40Speaker 5: Well, Garrettnsmeyer is an NFL quarterback arm he is going
- 10:43Speaker 5: to play, and he's going to do well in my opinion.
- 10:46Speaker 5: The problem is he can't. He's not being protected. Even
- 10:48Speaker 5: a stellar offensive line last year couldn't protect him. And
- 10:51Speaker 5: he's got a terrible head coach that can't connect with
- 10:53Speaker 5: kids anymore. If you go back and watch those SEC
- 10:55Speaker 5: series on Netflix, like Brian Kelly's just this pissed off
- 10:58Speaker 5: dad that kids are not connecting with.
- 11:00Speaker 4: So I think Nastmyer is going to do better when
- 11:01Speaker 4: he gets out of LSU.
- 11:03Speaker 5: But when you talk about kaya Clubnick, I love this
- 11:05Speaker 5: kid like I've been going and scooping his chrom and Bowman,
- 11:08Speaker 5: his Bowman Chrome Auto Rookie cards out there, because he
- 11:12Speaker 5: has gotten better and better year over year with pressure
- 11:15Speaker 5: in his face, elite numbers from big time throw to
- 11:17Speaker 5: turnover worthy play so much to where he was really
- 11:20Speaker 5: carrying the Clemson offense through the playoff run last year.
- 11:23Speaker 5: And I think he's going to be even better this
- 11:25Speaker 5: year with a massive amount of wide receivers back that
- 11:28Speaker 5: can really have some explosions. I think Klubnick is the
- 11:30Speaker 5: one that people are really not talking about enough. As
- 11:32Speaker 5: far as Lenora Sellers. I mean, it's it's truth time
- 11:35Speaker 5: right now because he's lost all of the big players
- 11:38Speaker 5: that are around him, the people that support him from
- 11:39Speaker 5: an offensive line, from the running backs that were in
- 11:41Speaker 5: the backfield. It's on him now, and really that South
- 11:44Speaker 5: Carolina offense is more like, let's just let shit break
- 11:47Speaker 5: down in the trench and see what Lenora Sellers can do.
- 11:49Speaker 5: And that's why you got so many good highlight reels
- 11:50Speaker 5: because it's him scrambling around him making like you know,
- 11:53Speaker 5: plays on the fly, which is great, but let's see
- 11:55Speaker 5: what happens when he doesn't have any role players around him.
- 11:58Speaker 5: But I think Clubnick is the one people need to
- 11:59Speaker 5: keep their eye on. From an NFL futures perspective, I
- 12:02Speaker 5: think he'll get up to nuss Meyer's level. From a
- 12:04Speaker 5: pro talent perspective.
- 12:06Speaker 6: Yeah, I think that the hype. Part of the reason
- 12:08Speaker 6: is the hype. The hype for those guys, sellers saw
- 12:11Speaker 6: some things to work on. I mean, he's still young,
- 12:12Speaker 6: but he has some things to work on from a
- 12:13Speaker 6: footwork and passing perspective. But you mentioned the dual threat
- 12:18Speaker 6: ability and that's like obviously everything in the NFL these days,
- 12:21Speaker 6: that's what everyone is looking for. I think nes Meyer
- 12:23Speaker 6: has the most NFL ready arm. The I think part
- 12:27Speaker 6: of the hype is those guys really came on at
- 12:30Speaker 6: the end of last year. So you saw that with
- 12:32Speaker 6: Club and Clubic really struggled against upper echelon competition throughout
- 12:37Speaker 6: the I mean he went zero and three against the
- 12:38Speaker 6: SEC last year the average I think under two touchdowns
- 12:41Speaker 6: per game, but against Texas he looked really good. In
- 12:43Speaker 6: the end of the year is when he started playing
- 12:45Speaker 6: his best. Nuss Meyer had some questionable throws earlier in
- 12:47Speaker 6: the year, but his decision making as the year went
- 12:50Speaker 6: on got better and then with alert. Part of this
- 12:54Speaker 6: part of it is what I just brought up, there's experience.
- 12:58Speaker 6: A lot of the other teams don't have have an
- 13:00Speaker 6: experienced quarterback option, so that's why that's part of what's
- 13:03Speaker 6: driving this hype is that many of these other teams
- 13:06Speaker 6: have a huge question mark. A lot of them are
- 13:08Speaker 6: starting young kids who haven't started before. So that's just
- 13:11Speaker 6: like where you have a big edgency, you just have
- 13:14Speaker 6: a returning starter with an upper echelon roster in college football.
- 13:19Speaker 6: But Aler needs to get better against upper echelon competition
- 13:22Speaker 6: when he's under pressure, those top teams, those top tier
- 13:25Speaker 6: teams that he's faced. He hasn't met the moment yet.
- 13:28Speaker 6: We'll see what he can do this year deciding to
- 13:31Speaker 6: come back. But I think part of it is just, hey,
- 13:33Speaker 6: we have the experience of the part of it is
- 13:34Speaker 6: there's a lot of other teams that just don't have
- 13:36Speaker 6: that luxury headed into this year, and that paints the
- 13:41Speaker 6: picture of the national title conversation opinion, Like I have
- 13:44Speaker 6: Penn State power aded number one the top team. Part
- 13:47Speaker 6: of that is, hey, hours back, you are Jymnales. You
- 13:50Speaker 6: have a roster full of experience and talent. But that
- 13:52Speaker 6: doesn't necessarily mean that one of these other teams will
- 13:56Speaker 6: catch them. Like Penn State's probably close to where its
- 13:58Speaker 6: peak is right now, unless Aler takes like a huge
- 14:02Speaker 6: leap forward. But one of these other teams, if they
- 14:05Speaker 6: hit on a quarterback right like to say, if Alabama
- 14:07Speaker 6: hits on the quarterback, the rest of their roster is
- 14:10Speaker 6: so stacked that they could rise up, and by the
- 14:12Speaker 6: time the College Twall Playoff comes along, Penn State might
- 14:15Speaker 6: not necessarily be power ad to number one.
- 14:17Speaker 5: Let me say this about Alison is a generally NFL
- 14:19Speaker 5: podcast for everybody listening. If he does not fix the
- 14:22Speaker 5: two problems that he has, he's going to fall in
- 14:24Speaker 5: the NFL Draft and he ain't gonna mount to anything
- 14:26Speaker 5: at the next level. One he cannot read pre snap blitz.
- 14:29Speaker 5: He cannot read what's coming at him. He has changed
- 14:31Speaker 5: the play with Nick Dawkins's center multiple times and made
- 14:34Speaker 5: the offensive line shift in places it didn't need to go.
- 14:37Speaker 5: Plus look at his throwaway numbers. I mean serious, like
- 14:40Speaker 5: that's a stat it is in the NFL, you have
- 14:41Speaker 5: to be able to get rid of a quick trigger
- 14:43Speaker 5: to the sidelines. He never throws the ball away. He'd
- 14:46Speaker 5: rather take a twelve yard sack. Can't throw it away,
- 14:49Speaker 5: can't detect pre snap blitz. I mean, those are two
- 14:51Speaker 5: huge problems. If he doesn't fix it, I'd be selling
- 14:53Speaker 5: him on NFL Draft Day like crazy.
- 14:56Speaker 1: All right, boys, let's transition that into futures. Colin your
- 15:01Speaker 1: first give me your best futures. Bet.
- 15:04Speaker 5: I like Oklahoma over six and a half seven. I
- 15:06Speaker 5: don't care what the jew say is this team is
- 15:07Speaker 5: absolutely loaded. Look for a combination of offensive coordinators and
- 15:10Speaker 5: quarterbacks that come together these programs we just saw with
- 15:13Speaker 5: Western Kentucky the other day. Well, now we've got John
- 15:15Speaker 5: Matia coming in from Washington State and his offensive coordinator
- 15:17Speaker 5: Ben Arbuckle, a real riser in the world of calling
- 15:21Speaker 5: offenses in college football. I don't think we realize exactly
- 15:25Speaker 5: how basement level the Oklahoma offense was last year because
- 15:28Speaker 5: of all of the injuries that they had sustained. But
- 15:30Speaker 5: now they have, you know, shout out to Phil Steele.
- 15:33Speaker 5: He calls their defensive line in their linebacker group the
- 15:35Speaker 5: number one overall unit in the SEC. Oklahoma is loaded
- 15:39Speaker 5: on defense. They now have an offense that can actually
- 15:41Speaker 5: score some points here. The schedule's tough, but I mean,
- 15:44Speaker 5: I'm not opposed to anyone out there looking at twenty
- 15:46Speaker 5: five to one to win the SEC. I think they
- 15:48Speaker 5: are in line for some major upsets this year. I
- 15:50Speaker 5: think they're in line to win Red River against Texas.
- 15:52Speaker 5: I love Oklahoma's over the win total this year.
- 15:55Speaker 6: I love a Phil Steele reference. Stucky let's go with.
- 16:02Speaker 6: I'll mention UCF. They played this a weekday they played
- 16:06Speaker 6: Jacksonville State. They should actually roll in that game, but
- 16:10Speaker 6: under five and a half it's Alex Grinch is the
- 16:13Speaker 6: defensive coordinator for Scott Frost, who comes back to UCF.
- 16:17Speaker 6: He's one of the worst defensive coordinators in college football.
- 16:19Speaker 6: For my money, I didn't that higher. To me is
- 16:22Speaker 6: head scratching. And then they just named Cam Fancher a
- 16:26Speaker 6: starting quarterback. That is probably a bad sign for what
- 16:30Speaker 6: the quarterback room look like. This is a guy who
- 16:33Speaker 6: probably should be starting at the group of five level.
- 16:36Speaker 6: I wasn't in love with all the talent they brought
- 16:37Speaker 6: and this should be a rebuilding year for UCF. So
- 16:40Speaker 6: I like under five and a half, and then I
- 16:41Speaker 6: mentioned Penn State before Penn State like plus money to
- 16:44Speaker 6: make the Big Ten title game. I like, they might
- 16:47Speaker 6: not be number one, so they might end up facing
- 16:49Speaker 6: like Ohio State is ahead of them at that point
- 16:51Speaker 6: in time. But this is a team. They host Oregon
- 16:54Speaker 6: in a great spot early on this season at home,
- 16:58Speaker 6: Oregon coming across the country, Penn State off.
- 17:00Speaker 4: Bye.
- 17:01Speaker 6: I'm very low in Oregon this year. I wouldn't be
- 17:03Speaker 6: shocked if Oregon missed the playoff. And I think Penn
- 17:07Speaker 6: State you'll see them at least in the Big Ten
- 17:09Speaker 6: Championship game.
- 17:10Speaker 5: And we have to throw a long shot out that
- 17:12Speaker 5: Stuckey and I both agree on. Let's go to the
- 17:14Speaker 5: MAC and Central Michigan out there to win the MAC
- 17:17Speaker 5: is like twenty twenty five to one, and you say,
- 17:19Speaker 5: where do you get this stuff?
- 17:21Speaker 4: In the MAC?
- 17:21Speaker 5: You can completely flip the conference upside down as the
- 17:23Speaker 5: Ohio Bobcats last year. But what Central Michigan did is
- 17:26Speaker 5: they needed a new head coach and they decided to
- 17:28Speaker 5: go out and get the guy that has re architected
- 17:30Speaker 5: the Army offense and turned them into this crazy like
- 17:33Speaker 5: triple threat option in space. Well, he's now calling the
- 17:36Speaker 5: places at Central Michigan, and no MAC defense knows how
- 17:39Speaker 5: to cover the triple option. I think just because they
- 17:41Speaker 5: don't have the personnel, they don't have the returning stars,
- 17:43Speaker 5: it doesn't matter. I think the Central Michigan offense running
- 17:45Speaker 5: the triple in space, what Army does is going to
- 17:47Speaker 5: mess up a lot of defenses in the MAC. It's
- 17:50Speaker 5: gonna work on Tuesday Wednesday nights. You're gonna hear a
- 17:51Speaker 5: lot of chirping from.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Us stock what's your last future?
- 17:55Speaker 6: I did take Central Michigan. I think the first time
- 17:57Speaker 6: they hired Mack went back in like twenty nineteen. They
- 17:59Speaker 6: had one win the year before and then went to
- 18:00Speaker 6: the MAC Championship game. So yeah, you could see an
- 18:03Speaker 6: enormous turnaround season to season in the MAC. There's just
- 18:07Speaker 6: and all these teams are turning over. They lose all
- 18:09Speaker 6: their best. The Macs getting worse, it's falling behind, but
- 18:12Speaker 6: it'll be just as entertaining as always. Let's see, I'll
- 18:15Speaker 6: throw let me throw a I'll throw a couple college
- 18:19Speaker 6: football playoff bets out there. I played some USC to
- 18:22Speaker 6: make the playoff plus four to eighty and I played
- 18:24Speaker 6: some Texas A and M plus two forty. I think
- 18:26Speaker 6: TAXA A M is a really high floor. Not Marcel
- 18:29Speaker 6: Reed still limited as a passer, but their rushing off
- 18:31Speaker 6: its their offensive line is going to be outstanding. Defense
- 18:34Speaker 6: was a problem last year. Mike Eelko said, look, I'm
- 18:38Speaker 6: going to fix that. I trust him on that side
- 18:39Speaker 6: of the ball. So he fixes the defense and you
- 18:42Speaker 6: marry that with like just a hootent powerful rushing attack.
- 18:46Speaker 6: I think those two things can work together in Texas
- 18:49Speaker 6: A and M of a shot of potentially getting to
- 18:52Speaker 6: the college fluff because you might see three, four or
- 18:54Speaker 6: five SEC teams in I already mentioned Oregon is down,
- 18:57Speaker 6: so maybe USC if Jane Mayava hits their defenses on
- 19:01Speaker 6: the ascend after losing Alex Grinch, they might be able
- 19:04Speaker 6: to take one of those big ten spots. And one
- 19:08Speaker 6: of the reasons Texas A and M could get it
- 19:10Speaker 6: the SEC A lot of these top teams that everyone
- 19:13Speaker 6: is counting on has quarterback uncertainty. So what if Alabama
- 19:17Speaker 6: doesn't hit? What if Gunderstockin's not the guy at Georgia?
- 19:21Speaker 6: So who could be some of these teams that could
- 19:23Speaker 6: benefit at least textas a and M has a known
- 19:25Speaker 6: commodity returning starter, even though his ceiling is probably limited
- 19:28Speaker 6: from a passing perspective. I think that there's a good
- 19:30Speaker 6: chance that they'll be in the discussion with a game
- 19:33Speaker 6: against Texas to close out the regular season. Who knows.
- 19:36Speaker 6: If they get that, they could get in there. So
- 19:37Speaker 6: texts A and M and USC are some shots to
- 19:40Speaker 6: make the College War ploff, and then one more at
- 19:43Speaker 6: LSU if they lose to Clemson. But it's very competitive,
- 19:49Speaker 6: and the offensive line actually looks okay and they have
- 19:52Speaker 6: a semblance of a rushing attack. I'll be curious. We'll
- 19:56Speaker 6: be talking about that on big Bets on campus following
- 19:58Speaker 6: Week one us to see what their prices look like
- 20:02Speaker 6: based on if they lose that game. But they still
- 20:04Speaker 6: look good, and I liked what I saw from some
- 20:05Speaker 6: of the young guys at offensive line against a really
- 20:07Speaker 6: good defensive line. So that's a team, another SEC team
- 20:11Speaker 6: that could benefit if some of these other top teams
- 20:13Speaker 6: don't necessarily hit at quarterback.
- 20:16Speaker 1: You've been so good at doing this for so long
- 20:18Speaker 1: now that you teed up my promo for BBOC perfectly.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Because this is a reminder to everybody the very best
- 20:28Speaker 1: college football betting coverage anywhere is on BBOC. You need
- 20:34Speaker 1: to listen to Big Bets on Campus, the BBOC podcast
- 20:39Speaker 1: featuring all of actions college football experts, including today's guest
- 20:44Speaker 1: Colin and Stucky, The BBOC Ogs, the number one ranked
- 20:48Speaker 1: college football betting podcast. Get it Apple, Spotify or the
- 20:52Speaker 1: BBOC YouTube channel.
- 20:55Speaker 3: All right, let's get to it. Chat Week one.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Colin, we got for number one first best bet.
- 21:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I just put this in the app last night.
- 21:03Speaker 5: Sam Houston plus ten and a half against UNLV. We
- 21:06Speaker 5: just saw these teams play in Week zero. UNLV's defense
- 21:09Speaker 5: is a dumpster fire. I don't know what Dan Mullen's
- 21:12Speaker 5: doing out there, but he's not coaching. They need to
- 21:14Speaker 5: take that defense and throw it in deep storage with
- 21:16Speaker 5: the Rebel Roller underneath Allegiance Stadium. It was the most
- 21:19Speaker 5: atrocious thing I've ever seen against Idoh State. They missed
- 21:21Speaker 5: seventeen tackles. That's really hard to do. Like Simon, we
- 21:25Speaker 5: could get out there and have more tackles than what
- 21:27Speaker 5: UNLV did the other day.
- 21:28Speaker 4: Sam Houston has a semblance of an offense.
- 21:30Speaker 5: I mean, I know they didn't cover against Western Kentucky,
- 21:32Speaker 5: but they did push the ball up and down the field,
- 21:34Speaker 5: very high yards per play, and they have an offensive
- 21:36Speaker 5: identity with what Phil Longo has there. That numbers should
- 21:39Speaker 5: be more like five and a half, not ten and
- 21:40Speaker 5: a half. So I like Sam Houston plus ten and
- 21:42Speaker 5: a half.
- 21:43Speaker 1: What I love about that Stuck. We're going to get
- 21:44Speaker 1: to yours next is after the game, Dan Mullin was
- 21:49Speaker 1: basically defensive. Like someone said to him, you know, how
- 21:52Speaker 1: do you feel you won? But the team didn't play well?
- 21:54Speaker 1: He goes, if you're not jumping up and down and
- 21:57Speaker 1: celebrating after winning a game, what are you even doing.
- 22:01Speaker 1: He's already dismissing the idea that there could be bad
- 22:04Speaker 1: play and a win. Stuck, I think he's got somebody
- 22:08Speaker 1: tripping in his ear, or Colin got somebody tripping in
- 22:11Speaker 1: his ear. He sounds just like you stuck, You go ahead?
- 22:14Speaker 6: Yeah, I low. I was very low on this UNLV
- 22:16Speaker 6: team coming into the air. I have their win total
- 22:18Speaker 6: under I was really hoping that. I know State could
- 22:21Speaker 6: have pulled off the stunner, but that line took a
- 22:23Speaker 6: ton of money too on UNV, which was crazy. You'll
- 22:25Speaker 6: see a lot of that in weeks zero, Week one,
- 22:27Speaker 6: with a lot of these unfl new roster. I mean
- 22:29Speaker 6: there's just transfers all over. You'll see crazy results, and
- 22:32Speaker 6: then you also see the market get some right and
- 22:34Speaker 6: in the market be way off based on some of
- 22:36Speaker 6: these games. By the way, Peak bets on campus. If
- 22:39Speaker 6: anyone's a new listener. We normally do episodes on Thursdays,
- 22:43Speaker 6: but this week special schedule. We'll have two episodes that
- 22:46Speaker 6: will be recording Tuesday, one breaking down the games on
- 22:50Speaker 6: Thursday and Friday night, and then a second part that
- 22:52Speaker 6: breaks down the rest of the weekend. Want to get
- 22:54Speaker 6: that out early for people sin Star games on Thursday
- 22:56Speaker 6: and Friday. It's Labor Day weekend, so just an FI
- 22:58Speaker 6: there and scheduling. I played this one. It still has
- 23:02Speaker 6: some meat on the bone. It got hit today this morning.
- 23:04Speaker 6: The board was lit up. But Georgia's state against Ole miss.
- 23:07Speaker 6: Anything over thirty five is fine. I was talking to
- 23:10Speaker 6: Colin about this on Saturday. I said it was thirty eight,
- 23:13Speaker 6: thirty eight and a half. I said this thing, I
- 23:14Speaker 6: made it like thirty two ish, I think thirty one
- 23:18Speaker 6: and a half. So I was like this, I think
- 23:20Speaker 6: this is a touchdown too high. Now it is scary
- 23:22Speaker 6: because it's Lane Kiffin going up against Georgia State, and
- 23:26Speaker 6: if you looked at ole Miss's results last year, ole
- 23:28Speaker 6: Miss destroyed these teams in weeks one through four, but
- 23:32Speaker 6: they didn't play anyone for like the first four weeks.
- 23:34Speaker 6: They on deck. After this game, they have Kentucky who
- 23:37Speaker 6: beat them last year, then another SEC game tu Lane,
- 23:40Speaker 6: So I'm not sure how much he's gonna want to
- 23:44Speaker 6: just keep running it up and how much he wants
- 23:46Speaker 6: to show in this particular spot. And I think ole
- 23:49Speaker 6: Miss they should have been the contwe A PLAYFFA. I mean,
- 23:52Speaker 6: because they lost that Kentucky and Lane Kiffin just has
- 23:54Speaker 6: these head scratching games. Their defense lost a ton, you
- 23:57Speaker 6: lose Jackson Dart as well at quarterback, you lose your
- 24:00Speaker 6: number one receivers. So this team, there's a lot of uncertainty,
- 24:02Speaker 6: and I just think the number is too high. I
- 24:05Speaker 6: think Georgia State can hang there. So I'll give out
- 24:07Speaker 6: the trash one Saturday night, Georgia State plus the points.
- 24:10Speaker 6: Anything over over five touchdowns.
- 24:13Speaker 3: I know you got another one from me, Colin. What
- 24:15Speaker 3: else we got for week one?
- 24:16Speaker 5: Baby Rutgers team total over thirty one and that half
- 24:19Speaker 5: i'mon go and get that.
- 24:20Speaker 3: So listen, I go across the state border, go get
- 24:23Speaker 3: that one.
- 24:23Speaker 5: You have to get this one because I don't know
- 24:25Speaker 5: if Ohio can score their points.
- 24:27Speaker 4: Right.
- 24:27Speaker 5: They've got some issues with the offensive line I think
- 24:30Speaker 5: might keep their offense from scoring some points. But Rutgers, No,
- 24:33Speaker 5: they got this running back from Fau. He averages four
- 24:36Speaker 5: yards after first contact, offensive line returns four starters against
- 24:39Speaker 5: an Ohio defensive line that lost everybody. They're fielding a
- 24:42Speaker 5: bunch of Juco guys, a bunch of guys that probably
- 24:44Speaker 5: shouldn't be there from the MAC. And then you say, well,
- 24:47Speaker 5: it's really important do head coaches take their foot off
- 24:50Speaker 5: the pedal in week one?
- 24:51Speaker 4: Schiano always has his foot on the pedal.
- 24:54Speaker 5: Last year again, in the second half alone against Howard
- 24:57Speaker 5: and Akron, he scored fifty five points. Two years ago,
- 25:00Speaker 5: he put up like twenty three in the fourth quarter
- 25:02Speaker 5: against Temple. Shiano just does not give a shit when
- 25:05Speaker 5: he plays these little teams. He will keep scoring in
- 25:07Speaker 5: every quarter no matter what the score is. Rutgers team
- 25:10Speaker 5: total over thirty one and a half. They're gonna have
- 25:12Speaker 5: their way with that offensive line up and down the field.
- 25:15Speaker 6: You know, cockers in that game.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Also, you know stuck, he's talking about Rutgers and Shiano
- 25:20Speaker 1: and not taking their foot off the gas. I don't
- 25:23Speaker 1: know if I buy the theory that Lane Kiffin's gonna
- 25:26Speaker 1: slow his role just because they've got games the following
- 25:30Speaker 1: week that are a little bit more competitive.
- 25:33Speaker 6: I mean, probably not, but he might. He might not
- 25:36Speaker 6: show as much, and he might just get its starters
- 25:38Speaker 6: out a tad bit earlier, which could matter. I mean
- 25:41Speaker 6: that my main handicap there is the line is just
- 25:44Speaker 6: way too high compared to what I projected at. But
- 25:46Speaker 6: there's a chance. I mean, if you look last year,
- 25:49Speaker 6: oh miss, if you look at their schedule they started
- 25:52Speaker 6: out and this will scare you. Like they started out,
- 25:56Speaker 6: what do they beat? They beat someone like seventy nothing.
- 25:57Speaker 6: I think, let me pull up their schedule because it's
- 26:01Speaker 6: it's definitely noteworthy and it's definitely something that I thought about.
- 26:04Speaker 6: They beat Furman seventy six nothing, and then they beat
- 26:08Speaker 6: Middle Tennessee fifty two to three. They beat Wake forty
- 26:11Speaker 6: to six, They beat Georgia Southern fifty two to thirteen.
- 26:15Speaker 6: And then guess what they did all that against these
- 26:18Speaker 6: just absolute horrendous teams. And then they hosted Kentucky in
- 26:22Speaker 6: Week one or in the first game of the their
- 26:25Speaker 6: SEC schedule, and they lost as enormous favorites, so he'd
- 26:28Speaker 6: probably be smart to maybe take a different approach this year.
- 26:31Speaker 6: But basically their Week one last year gets Furman and
- 26:33Speaker 6: then middle they weren't They didn't play anyone the first month,
- 26:35Speaker 6: so they had nothing to really worry about or look
- 26:37Speaker 6: forward to, or hold back or worry about the start.
- 26:40Speaker 6: So the number one, it's a fair point by you
- 26:43Speaker 6: because that's what Kevin does. He's probably gonna I'm gonna
- 26:45Speaker 6: eat my words because they're gonna be up thirty four
- 26:48Speaker 6: with a minute to go and he's gonna be running
- 26:50Speaker 6: no huddle and going forward on a fourth down. But
- 26:54Speaker 6: the main thing is, I just think the line is
- 26:55Speaker 6: too high here, and this year, unlike last year, there's
- 27:00Speaker 6: things to be concerned about. You're at Kentucky next week,
- 27:04Speaker 6: and then you play Arkansas in Tulane and then LSU.
- 27:07Speaker 6: It's a much different schedule structurally than last year. But
- 27:10Speaker 6: you're probably right, But at the end of the deadline
- 27:12Speaker 6: is too high in my opinion.
- 27:13Speaker 1: All right, well, what's your second pick?
- 27:14Speaker 6: Then let's go Va Tech. This game is on Sunday afternoon.
- 27:20Speaker 6: I believe against South Carolina. I think South con Is
- 27:24Speaker 6: defense is going to take any enormous step back this year.
- 27:30Speaker 6: They lost a ton of talent to the NFL. In total.
- 27:33Speaker 6: This is a team that had four defensive players drafted,
- 27:36Speaker 6: I think in like the top eighty ninety of the
- 27:38Speaker 6: NFL draft. They lost a total of eight others that
- 27:41Speaker 6: signed undrafted free agent contracts, and they had another one
- 27:45Speaker 6: who was invited to a camp. So there was a
- 27:47Speaker 6: big talent drain, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
- 27:50Speaker 6: So I think their defense takes a step back. I
- 27:52Speaker 6: think it was just a good by low. It's the
- 27:56Speaker 6: year after all. The hype with tech votech was everybody's
- 28:00Speaker 6: preseason darling last year, and so they're the acc sleeper
- 28:03Speaker 6: to get to the college football Playoff, and they had
- 28:05Speaker 6: a disasters year. There were injuries, coaching malpractice. I'm not
- 28:10Speaker 6: necessarily the biggest prive guy. This might be his last year.
- 28:14Speaker 6: He's been a disaster in one possession games, which I
- 28:16Speaker 6: think speaks to coaching when it's a trend over that
- 28:18Speaker 6: long of a period. But if it was a one
- 28:20Speaker 6: session game here, I don't care taken over a touchdown.
- 28:24Speaker 6: I think that BATECH just not that this is like
- 28:26Speaker 6: the They lost a lot of talent too. But I
- 28:28Speaker 6: loved their coordinator Highers on both sides of the ball.
- 28:31Speaker 6: Marv their defensive coordinat last year who came from Florida City.
- 28:34Speaker 6: He doesn't even have a job anywhere now. I think
- 28:36Speaker 6: he was terrible on the defensive side of the ball.
- 28:38Speaker 6: Last year. They hired this guy, Sefkis, who came from
- 28:41Speaker 6: the NFL. I think he's going to do wonders for
- 28:44Speaker 6: this defense, and especially week one, I think he's going
- 28:47Speaker 6: to confuse sellers. He's going to confuse this offense. This
- 28:50Speaker 6: is the guy who came from the Cardinals staff and
- 28:52Speaker 6: the Viking staff over the past four years. You know,
- 28:54Speaker 6: with the that Viking staff, that Cardinal staff, I have
- 28:58Speaker 6: a ton of respect for. They're doing some awesome things
- 29:00Speaker 6: with three high safeties. So I think that the coordinator
- 29:04Speaker 6: hires here drones being healthier, I think there's this is
- 29:07Speaker 6: a good spot neutral field taking over the touchdown, taking
- 29:12Speaker 6: over seven with VA Tech, I think they're gonna have
- 29:16Speaker 6: a shot to pull this out.
- 29:20Speaker 3: All right, com got one more for me, boss, Yeah,
- 29:23Speaker 3: let's fade Hawaii I've seen.
- 29:25Speaker 4: I mean, yeah, so this was a game.
- 29:29Speaker 5: Like I was sitting in Chicago at the watch party
- 29:31Speaker 5: and I said, you know, guys, I have Arizona like
- 29:33Speaker 5: power rated like twenty four over Hawaii, and the market
- 29:36Speaker 5: right now is thirteen. I think I've got to hit
- 29:38Speaker 5: this now because Hawaii could lay an egg. Well, Hawaii
- 29:41Speaker 5: won the game, but look what the market's doing right now.
- 29:43Speaker 5: It reopened it fourteen and a half, it's up to eighteen.
- 29:45Speaker 5: I think today, I think it's good all the way
- 29:47Speaker 5: up to twenty one. Because Hawaii's quarterback right now, Mika
- 29:50Speaker 5: Alohado is I mean hobbled like, I mean he was
- 29:53Speaker 5: taped up, looked like a Transformer out there running around
- 29:55Speaker 5: with his boot like he was hobbling in between snaps.
- 29:58Speaker 5: I think he's gonna have zero mobility. They're flying into
- 30:01Speaker 5: play Arizona. I think the hate on Arizona has been
- 30:04Speaker 5: really uncalled for. I think Brent Brennan is a fantastic coach.
- 30:07Speaker 5: I think they had a Dino Babers problem, which they
- 30:08Speaker 5: don't have right now. And you know, Stucky knows that
- 30:11Speaker 5: there is an advantage for teams playing in Week one
- 30:14Speaker 5: against teams that already played in Week zero against the
- 30:16Speaker 5: spread because they have so much more film, and this
- 30:18Speaker 5: kind of falls into that area too. So I like
- 30:20Speaker 5: Arizona all the way up to twenty one. I think
- 30:22Speaker 5: it's gonna zoom past this current number. Seventeen and a half.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Eighteen, all right, stock taking this home the final best
- 30:29Speaker 1: bet for college football Week one.
- 30:31Speaker 6: Yeah, Historically, for what it's worth, over sixty percent against
- 30:34Speaker 6: the spread for FBS, just FBS teams taking out FBS
- 30:38Speaker 6: teams that are making their debut in Week one. Very unique.
- 30:41Speaker 6: It's not like the NFL where everyone starts in one week.
- 30:43Speaker 6: Sixty one percent two thousand and five teams that are
- 30:45Speaker 6: making their debut against teams that played the week prior.
- 30:50Speaker 6: I think there's only two spots this week because a
- 30:53Speaker 6: lot of teams are playing FCS. There's Stanford as a bye,
- 30:57Speaker 6: and I think that's who are the two teams here?
- 30:59Speaker 6: We have, Oh, Georgia Southern, We'll play Fresno. They're catching.
- 31:03Speaker 6: I think they're just like a one point dog, but
- 31:04Speaker 6: I would lean that way there and then, Yeah, this
- 31:06Speaker 6: line has been hit, but especially with the injury uncertainty
- 31:10Speaker 6: a quarterback for Hawaii, the Arizona hosting Hawaii, and Hawaii
- 31:13Speaker 6: has not been good on the road under Timmy Chang
- 31:16Speaker 6: and the handicap there is, yes, you get what means more,
- 31:19Speaker 6: you get to shake off the rust, work out the kinks,
- 31:21Speaker 6: or you have the film and the rest and the
- 31:25Speaker 6: non travel advantage. Right, you get to see and with
