- 0:25Speaker 1: Welcome to Opposition Territory here at the Philadelphia Sports Table
- 0:28Speaker 1: podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly sports podcast show
- 0:32Speaker 1: in the world, twelve years strong. We've got a great
- 0:35Speaker 1: guest on our Opposition Territory podcast this week as we
- 0:38Speaker 1: dive into the Detroit Lions what their offseason has looked
- 0:43Speaker 1: like thus far. We've got from the Lions Wire and
- 0:47Speaker 1: the Draft wire. We've got our good friend who comes
- 0:50Speaker 1: on every now and again to talk about this Detroit
- 0:52Speaker 1: Lions team, mister Jeff Risdon, Jeff buddy, how you doing.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Man, good to be with you.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Congratulations on your Super Bowl I got it, gonna give
- 1:00Speaker 3: it that up.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Oh, thank you very much. Here, I got I got
- 1:02Speaker 1: the shirt and everything going on here.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Jeff, Yeah, I need one of those for my team.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Though, absolutely absolutely. Look, I mean, you do such a
- 1:11Speaker 1: great job covering the Lions. It's one of many reasons
- 1:14Speaker 1: why ask you to come on the pod here and
- 1:16Speaker 1: really talk about this team, the direction that they are going,
- 1:19Speaker 1: and of course last year a disappointment for the Lions,
- 1:24Speaker 1: and many of us thought, quite frankly, I thought that
- 1:27Speaker 1: we would see an Eagles Lions NFC championship game. It
- 1:31Speaker 1: was disappointing for me that that didn't happen. I thought
- 1:33Speaker 1: it was going to be a fantastic matchup. But now
- 1:36Speaker 1: as we're looking at twenty twenty five here, Jeff, excuse me,
- 1:40Speaker 1: now that free agency in the NFL Draft are behind us.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Here in twenty twenty five, I'm wondering, you know, after
- 1:45Speaker 1: last season, looking ahead, what are the expectations for this
- 1:49Speaker 1: Lions team coming into this season?
- 1:52Speaker 3: You know, I think it's to be right there with
- 1:54Speaker 3: Philadelphia once again as the top teams in the NFC,
- 1:57Speaker 3: battling for the number one seed in homefield, a van
- 2:00Speaker 3: in that playoff. By that's that's where that's where they're at.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Last year was was definitely disappointing. It ended the defense
- 2:09Speaker 3: that they played against Washington in that divisional round was
- 2:13Speaker 3: missing nine starters. Yeah, so that all those guys will
- 2:18Speaker 3: be back at some point in the season, probably by
- 2:20Speaker 3: the time they played the Eagles. I believe it's week eleven. Yeah,
- 2:23Speaker 3: that's they should be fully loaded by then. Last year's
- 2:27Speaker 3: injuries were unreal, and I think that most fans have
- 2:31Speaker 3: become of the realization that Okay, we're good, We're still good,
- 2:35Speaker 3: Like we're getting all these guys back who were missing
- 2:38Speaker 3: down the stretch and still in fifteen games last year.
- 2:41Speaker 3: I'm not sure that the fifteen and two is attainable again,
- 2:45Speaker 3: But you know, winning the NFC North again, competing with
- 2:48Speaker 3: the Eagles, and I'll throw the Commanders are good football team.
- 2:51Speaker 3: I'll throw them in there as well as the three
- 2:53Speaker 3: best teams of the NFC. And I wouldn't wouldn't rule
- 2:55Speaker 3: out the Rams, but you know, I think they're a
- 2:58Speaker 3: tier below. But I think, you know, the Lions should
- 3:01Speaker 3: be in that conversation and deserve to be.
- 3:02Speaker 1: They absolutely do. Expectations for the fan base are very
- 3:06Speaker 1: high concerning this Detroit Lions team coming into this upcoming
- 3:11Speaker 1: season because they do have a lot of talent that
- 3:13Speaker 1: is returning. They do have a coach and Dan Campbell,
- 3:16Speaker 1: which we're gonna get to in a bit in terms
- 3:20Speaker 1: of that energy that is he is able to produce
- 3:23Speaker 1: for this team to really keep them going during tough times.
- 3:26Speaker 1: You talked about all those injuries last season. It's a
- 3:30Speaker 1: Lions team where the expectations are very high. But I
- 3:33Speaker 1: wanted to dive into next with you, Jeff, the Lions
- 3:36Speaker 1: draft picks kind of analyzing them because I really liked
- 3:40Speaker 1: how they prioritize the trenches right off the bat in
- 3:43Speaker 1: the first two rounds, then when defensive tackle, offensive guard
- 3:47Speaker 1: with their first and second picks. This is something that
- 3:50Speaker 1: I think more and more teams are doing. And I'm
- 3:52Speaker 1: not saying they're replicating what the Philadelphia Eagles have done
- 3:55Speaker 1: over the years, but as we know Eagles and Howie
- 3:57Speaker 1: Roseman the front office, they build in the trenches. It's
- 4:01Speaker 1: been successful for them as they remain a relevant team
- 4:04Speaker 1: in the NFC and the NFL. And again, I loved
- 4:08Speaker 1: what the Lions did, like just objectively looking at it
- 4:11Speaker 1: as a football fan and what this team in front
- 4:13Speaker 1: office did. So when it comes to the top teams
- 4:16Speaker 1: here in the NFC, Jeff, there's a ton of talent
- 4:20Speaker 1: in the trenches here. What did you like best about
- 4:23Speaker 1: the Lions draft after it was all said and done,
- 4:25Speaker 1: And I'm assuming you like those trenches picks as well.
- 4:28Speaker 3: I do, And it meant that they didn't break character.
- 4:31Speaker 3: They understand who they are and they embrace who they are.
- 4:34Speaker 3: They are a team that wins from the inside out,
- 4:37Speaker 3: being strong on the offensive and defensive fronts. If they
- 4:40Speaker 3: don't work, your team isn't there. I think that's the
- 4:43Speaker 3: successful model in the NFL right now and pretty much
- 4:47Speaker 3: is timeless. Yeah, you gotta have some skilled position players too,
- 4:50Speaker 3: But you know, getting Telly Williams in, you know, he
- 4:53Speaker 3: is a force in the middle of a first round
- 4:55Speaker 3: pick coming out of Ohio State. They loved his game
- 5:00Speaker 3: and they stayed with him. Was it higher than a
- 5:02Speaker 3: lot of people thought he was gonna go.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Yeah? Probably, they don't care, and I appreciate that.
- 5:08Speaker 3: You know, getting getting the Tate Ratlage in the second round,
- 5:11Speaker 3: the guard from Georgia. He can start right away. They
- 5:14Speaker 3: actually took him earlier than I wanted him to go.
- 5:16Speaker 3: I wasn't his biggest fan, but he fits what they want.
- 5:20Speaker 3: He fits their culture, fits their football style, and you
- 5:24Speaker 3: know that's that. The only open starting spot on either
- 5:29Speaker 3: side of the ball entering the draft was right guard.
- 5:32Speaker 2: And they drafted with them. Actually, they also got Miles
- 5:35Speaker 2: Frasier in the Yeah, he's good.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Coming out of LSU. He understands the expectations of playing. Look,
- 5:41Speaker 3: he played on a line where four linemen were drafted
- 5:43Speaker 3: this year. He understands what it's like to be on
- 5:46Speaker 3: a trench dominant team. So in that I think they
- 5:49Speaker 3: did a very good job of reinforcing who they are
- 5:52Speaker 3: and getting players who fit what they are.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Yeah. Absolutely, Look, no NFL team is perfect, and I
- 5:58Speaker 1: think we can look at every single team even after
- 6:00Speaker 1: the draft, where you know that players who are drafted,
- 6:04Speaker 1: they're not necessarily going to be starters right out of
- 6:06Speaker 1: the gate. Some will be starters. But with that said,
- 6:10Speaker 1: here's a two part question for you about this Lions
- 6:12Speaker 1: team heading into the summer in this upcoming season, Jeff,
- 6:15Speaker 1: I want to talk about the biggest strength on this
- 6:18Speaker 1: Lions team heading into this season. So what do you
- 6:21Speaker 1: see as the biggest strength on this team that you
- 6:24Speaker 1: know we all as we have NFC teams that we
- 6:27Speaker 1: follow and root for. What's the biggest strength that we
- 6:30Speaker 1: need to be aware of for this Lions team heading
- 6:32Speaker 1: into this season.
- 6:34Speaker 3: I think the offense and the ability to score in
- 6:37Speaker 3: so many different ways and beat you in so many
- 6:40Speaker 3: different ways. And it does all start in the trenches.
- 6:42Speaker 3: But Jamior Gibson, David Montgomery, that's a fantastic one too.
- 6:46Speaker 3: You know, Sonic and Knuckles at running back. I'm on
- 6:49Speaker 3: Ralh Saint Brown all Pro, Yep, Steam Laporta at tight end,
- 6:54Speaker 3: borderline pro bowler, should be a pro bowler. Yeah, Jamison
- 6:58Speaker 3: Williams coming on. Fantastic first round talent, finally hitting his stride.
- 7:04Speaker 2: They've got guys.
- 7:05Speaker 1: We're gonna talk about him in a bit, Yeah.
- 7:08Speaker 3: I hope so, because he's prominent. You know, they drafted
- 7:10Speaker 3: Isaac Taslah in the third round. He's a local for me,
- 7:14Speaker 3: so I'm a little biased. We don't get a lot
- 7:16Speaker 3: of people from my neck of the Grand Rapids area
- 7:18Speaker 3: in Michigan here to go into the NFL, but he's
- 7:20Speaker 3: one of them, and he fits too. He's an explosive,
- 7:23Speaker 3: big guy. They've got so many ways to beat you at.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Jared Goff at the controls of it all, understands who
- 7:30Speaker 3: he is and understands how to get it done. And look,
- 7:33Speaker 3: there's questions about the coaching that they had some coaching
- 7:36Speaker 3: turnover on the offensive side of the wall, but the
- 7:38Speaker 3: weaponry and the line in front of them that allows
- 7:41Speaker 3: them to do it is as good as any, if
- 7:44Speaker 3: not better than any other team.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Absolutely, they're a powerhouse from an offensive standpoint for sure.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Definitely the biggest strength of this team heading into this season.
- 7:53Speaker 1: But on the flip side of that, Jeff wondering what
- 7:55Speaker 1: the biggest weakness of this team is heading into the season,
- 7:59Speaker 1: because again, no NFL team is perfect by any stretch,
- 8:02Speaker 1: and yes, Eagle's coming off the Super Bowl. There's some
- 8:04Speaker 1: weaknesses here and there with regard to the Eagles. But
- 8:07Speaker 1: with the Lions, where is the biggest weakness on this team?
- 8:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you can look at the defensive depth
- 8:13Speaker 3: behind the starting eleven or twelve.
- 8:16Speaker 1: On the line, specifically, you think or the line and
- 8:18Speaker 1: also the secondary.
- 8:20Speaker 2: There's a lot of unproven parts there.
- 8:23Speaker 3: They're they're hoping for a lot from ns Rakestraw in
- 8:25Speaker 3: his second season, he didn't really play much as a rookie,
- 8:28Speaker 3: has had chronic hamstring problems for a long time.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Their backup safeties.
- 8:32Speaker 3: They might have signed a guy as an undrafted free
- 8:34Speaker 3: agent at who's the number three safety on the team
- 8:37Speaker 3: right now, He'll be competing against Avonte.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Maddox, who you all know very well, very well. Yeah,
- 8:42Speaker 2: to be that, it seems.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Like Avante is going to be pensilvanis the number three safety,
- 8:46Speaker 3: free safety, hybrid nickel type player, and that can work.
- 8:51Speaker 2: He can probably be better than that. I think Eagles
- 8:53Speaker 2: fans would.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Probably agree with yes, absolutely, Yeah, and you know on
- 8:57Speaker 3: the lines as well, it's unproven. There are bodies there really,
- 9:01Speaker 3: I'm both offensive and defense. There's a lot of bodies
- 9:04Speaker 3: that have to get sorted out, and not a lot
- 9:06Speaker 3: of them have a lot of relevant experience. So if
- 9:09Speaker 3: they get injuries like they did last year, Look, they
- 9:11Speaker 3: adapted and overcame last year. I think that was probably
- 9:15Speaker 3: more on the force of will of the coach and
- 9:18Speaker 3: the culture. I'm not sure you can rely on that. Again,
- 9:21Speaker 3: you got to get some it would be nice not
- 9:23Speaker 3: to have to rely on the depth.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Let's put that on.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Right, exactly exactly. Let's let's keep the injuries at a
- 9:29Speaker 1: minimum of this coming season for sure. Again, folks, we're
- 9:32Speaker 1: talking to Jeff Risdon from the Lions Wire and the
- 9:36Speaker 1: Draft Wire. Jeff, I know that you are on some
- 9:38Speaker 1: social media sites out there. Can you tell everybody where
- 9:41Speaker 1: they can follow you, buddy?
- 9:42Speaker 2: Yeah? Sure.
- 9:43Speaker 3: You can get me on x formerly Twitter at Jeff
- 9:45Speaker 3: Risdon RISD and it says done there.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Yep.
- 9:48Speaker 2: You can get me on.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Blue Sky I am Jeff Rizz with two Z's nineteen
- 9:53Speaker 3: and you can find me on YouTube on the Detroit
- 9:56Speaker 3: Lions podcast where I co host, and I've been doing
- 9:58Speaker 3: a lot of solo stuff lately because my co host
- 10:01Speaker 3: has been super busy, So we're doing all kinds of
- 10:03Speaker 3: stuff as we can.
- 10:04Speaker 1: There nice, very nice, and folks really quick. If you're
- 10:07Speaker 1: watching on YouTube, here are our social media sites here
- 10:10Speaker 1: at the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show. If you're listening

- 10:25Speaker 1: We're also over on Instagram as well. Search out the
- 10:27Speaker 1: Philadelphia Sports Table. You can follow me at mister Jeff
- 10:30Speaker 1: Warren there. I'm over on TikTok as well at mister
- 10:32Speaker 1: Jeff Warren there. And as we get back into this
- 10:36Speaker 1: conversation about the Detroit Lions, Jeff, I want to talk
- 10:40Speaker 1: about Jared Goff and what we've not only seen from
- 10:44Speaker 1: him since he has come over from LA but where
- 10:47Speaker 1: he needs to go with his game in the future,
- 10:50Speaker 1: because he is now at this point one of the
- 10:52Speaker 1: premier quarterbacks in the NFC, if not in the NFL
- 10:55Speaker 1: in general. But there is a new passing game coordinator
- 10:58Speaker 1: in Detroit in Dave Shaw. So I'm wondering what type
- 11:03Speaker 1: of quarterback does Jared Goff need to be from here
- 11:06Speaker 1: on out and where does he need to improve perhaps
- 11:10Speaker 1: this coming season. So I'm wondering if David Shaw actually
- 11:13Speaker 1: does help him get there to where he needs to
- 11:15Speaker 1: be in your opinion.
- 11:17Speaker 2: I hope so.
- 11:18Speaker 3: David Shaw a ton of experience from working, you know,
- 11:21Speaker 3: under Jim Harbaugh for a long time, goes in the
- 11:23Speaker 3: Stanford head coach, made a lot of nice things out
- 11:28Speaker 3: of not so nice things there, and I think that
- 11:30Speaker 3: that will carry over into this time with the NFL.
- 11:33Speaker 3: He and John Morton, who is the new Lions offensive
- 11:35Speaker 3: coordinator who is here in twenty twenty two and then
- 11:37Speaker 3: stepped away and came back, they are best friends. They
- 11:41Speaker 3: get along very well, so they sort of see things
- 11:43Speaker 3: in the same way. And Goff needs to keep doing
- 11:46Speaker 3: what he's been doing, being efficient, killing the blitz.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Please don't blitz Jared Goff. He's going to make you pay.
- 11:55Speaker 3: That's direct message for Brian Flores there in Minnesota because
- 11:57Speaker 3: he's not figured that out yet.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Reasons why lines and I don't fear the vikings at all.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Right at all, right.
- 12:06Speaker 3: But I think in terms of improvement, I think he can.
- 12:12Speaker 3: I there are times where he gets a little too
- 12:14Speaker 3: locked into one specific play or player, whether it's you know,
- 12:21Speaker 3: and I think one of the one of the getting
- 12:23Speaker 3: Sam Laporta back involved and getting David Montgomery more involved
- 12:26Speaker 3: in the passing game. And I'm not sure that that
- 12:28Speaker 3: was more on golf as it was on on Ben Johnson,
- 12:31Speaker 3: the old offensive coordinator, and just familiarity and you know,
- 12:35Speaker 3: you know, fencing at what the defense gives you. But uh,
- 12:37Speaker 3: there were a lot of opportunities to take shots more
- 12:40Speaker 3: in the middle of more in the fringes of the
- 12:42Speaker 3: middle of the field. Golf's fantastic over the middle. If
- 12:45Speaker 3: you get him in the seams, like on the hashes
- 12:47Speaker 3: and outside that a little bit, he can struggle a
- 12:50Speaker 3: little bit there. And I think getting more getting more
- 12:53Speaker 3: involved early there.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Can do well.
- 12:55Speaker 3: And boy, if he can pick up his foot speed
- 12:57Speaker 3: from you know, somewhere from the five point five range
- 13:00Speaker 3: in the forty, I think that'd be a little bit
- 13:02Speaker 3: nice too, And maybe do some ladder drills this year
- 13:04Speaker 3: just to get a little bit more atchel. He's never
- 13:06Speaker 3: going to be an athlete, that's not who he is, right,
- 13:09Speaker 3: but he can do a little bit more with his legs.
- 13:11Speaker 3: He ran for a first down on a third and
- 13:13Speaker 3: two last year on a naked bootleg, and the fans
- 13:17Speaker 3: and his teammates went absolutely bonkers. I want to see
- 13:21Speaker 3: a little bit more of that.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, that's something he can look He's no Jalen
- 13:25Speaker 1: Hurts necessarily no when it comes to getting the ball
- 13:28Speaker 1: down the field with his legs, but still two yards
- 13:31Speaker 1: three yards. He can definitely do that, implement that as
- 13:33Speaker 1: part of the offensive plan. I think that'll be very
- 13:36Speaker 1: successful for them as well. But moving along here, Jeff,
- 13:40Speaker 1: you know, personally, I think Jamison Williams, who you mentioned earlier,
- 13:44Speaker 1: is going to be a beast this coming season catching
- 13:48Speaker 1: the ball from Jared Goff. I mean, he needs to
- 13:51Speaker 1: find that consistency during a seventeen game season, which I
- 13:54Speaker 1: think that he will do as he continues to grow
- 13:57Speaker 1: and continues to develop. What are your thoughts on Jamison
- 14:00Speaker 1: Williams here and what he's going to bring to the
- 14:02Speaker 1: offense and the team overall this season as he again
- 14:05Speaker 1: really continues to develop here.
- 14:07Speaker 3: You know, one of the things that he did last
- 14:09Speaker 3: year that they hadn't really used him at was he
- 14:11Speaker 3: had primarily been a vertical threat or a you know,
- 14:14Speaker 3: jet sweep type thing. They figured out how to use
- 14:17Speaker 3: him on crossing routes and drags and you know things
- 14:20Speaker 3: like that a hook and that he used hooking latter
- 14:23Speaker 3: with him. They can do all sorts of things with
- 14:25Speaker 3: it using his speed horizontally instead of just vertically. And
- 14:31Speaker 3: he embraced that because he's like, oh, I'm I'm running
- 14:34Speaker 3: away from a you know, the closing safety here, Like
- 14:36Speaker 3: I got this and his confidence in his hands. It
- 14:40Speaker 3: still needs to grow that there's there's a room for
- 14:43Speaker 3: work there, but he got better at it. He he
- 14:45Speaker 3: is and and Dan Campbell said this one. He's not
- 14:48Speaker 3: a natural catcher of the football, but he's getting a
- 14:51Speaker 3: lot better at it and getting a lot more confident
- 14:53Speaker 3: and secure with it. And that's something that you know,
- 14:56Speaker 3: golf trust him. The new coaching staff and and one
- 14:59Speaker 3: of one of the subtle changes, they do have a
- 15:02Speaker 3: new wide receivers coach, but he's been here. It was
- 15:04Speaker 3: the former assistant head coach and running backs coach, Scotty Montgomery,
- 15:08Speaker 3: and he and Jamo, everybody calls him Jamo are very tight.
- 15:13Speaker 3: And I think that that might help a little bit too.
- 15:14Speaker 3: And That's nothing against Antoine Randallel, who's now with the
- 15:17Speaker 3: Bears and went with Ben Johnson is a fantastic wide
- 15:19Speaker 3: receivers coach and I liked him. But I think that
- 15:22Speaker 3: this might be a little bit more of a big
- 15:24Speaker 3: brother situation. I think that's Jamo needs that. Jamo is
- 15:28Speaker 3: not a guy who responds super well to being dogged.
- 15:33Speaker 3: He's a guy that you need, you need to keep
- 15:34Speaker 3: building him up, and I think Scotty understands that pretty well.
- 15:37Speaker 3: So he's got the potential. He's not going to lead
- 15:40Speaker 3: the team in receptions. He might lead the team in
- 15:43Speaker 3: receiving yards this year. He got a thousand last year.
- 15:46Speaker 3: It wouldn't spress me if he got over twelve fifty
- 15:48Speaker 3: this year. And finding the end zone and just being
- 15:52Speaker 3: he is. Also, I wouldn't say that he wasn't bought
- 15:57Speaker 3: in when he wasn't. This wasn't Corey Coleman Baylor or
- 16:00Speaker 3: anything like that, where he wasn't running rout's hard when
- 16:02Speaker 3: he knew he wasn't gonna.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Get the ball right.
- 16:04Speaker 3: But you can tell that he was a little bit
- 16:05Speaker 3: dispirited at times and that's gone and that's good to see.
- 16:09Speaker 1: And I think that's a testament to the relationship between
- 16:12Speaker 1: coaches and players. It's sob incredibly important and critical, and
- 16:17Speaker 1: not just the NFL, but in any sport, any professional sport.
- 16:20Speaker 1: You know, it's something that we don't always talk about
- 16:22Speaker 1: in sports world that I think, you know, it's important
- 16:24Speaker 1: to highlight in order for a player to develop, like Jmo,
- 16:28Speaker 1: you have to have that sincere and just honest relationship
- 16:33Speaker 1: between coach and player in order for good things to
- 16:36Speaker 1: happen on the field. So, Jeff, I don't want to
- 16:39Speaker 1: keep you any longer, buddy, but I do want to
- 16:42Speaker 1: really quick talk about before I let you go. The
- 16:44Speaker 1: head coach of this Detroit Lions team, Dan Campbell. I mean,
- 16:48Speaker 1: he's becoming one of those NFL head coaches. I think
- 16:52Speaker 1: that is good, and it may sound hokey, may go
- 16:55Speaker 1: down in folklore in the decades to come, just because
- 16:59Speaker 1: of who he is as a person, who he is
- 17:01Speaker 1: as a coach. He's revered by his team, his energy
- 17:04Speaker 1: is absolutely contagious, He's blatantly honest with the press and
- 17:09Speaker 1: just those around him all the time. I'm wondering, how
- 17:12Speaker 1: would you sum up Dan Campbell's tenure thus far, and
- 17:15Speaker 1: do you think he'll end up being known as one
- 17:17Speaker 1: of the NFL great coaches.
- 17:20Speaker 3: Got I hope so, because that means that means titles,
- 17:23Speaker 3: that means longevity, that means you're good for a very
- 17:25Speaker 3: long time. I've never had that in Detroit, not in
- 17:28Speaker 3: my lifetime anyways. I haven't won a title since nineteen
- 17:31Speaker 3: fifty seven, which my dad was a kid then, So
- 17:34Speaker 3: you know, that would be fantastic. His integrity and his
- 17:39Speaker 3: you know, honesty with who he is, and he embraces it.
- 17:45Speaker 3: He wears his heart on his sleeve all the time.
- 17:47Speaker 3: The players love that. They know where they stand with him.
- 17:50Speaker 3: They know that he's being honest with them, and that's
- 17:53Speaker 3: not something that the Prayer regime had at all. Right,
- 17:57Speaker 3: I don't want to go into that at all, but
- 17:58Speaker 3: you all know that from Darius Slay. Oh yes, I'm
- 18:00Speaker 3: sure he's told stories. He's right by the way out.
- 18:04Speaker 3: They're all true, all of them, as sort of as
- 18:07Speaker 3: they get. And just he embraces the He embraces the
- 18:11Speaker 3: differences between the players too. He understands that not everybody
- 18:15Speaker 3: can be coached the same. Sometimes you gotta throw your
- 18:17Speaker 3: arm around the guy. Sometimes you got to push him
- 18:18Speaker 3: a little bit. And because he is who he is
- 18:21Speaker 3: and he's always the same, the players understand that he's
- 18:25Speaker 3: coming at it from a point of he's trying to
- 18:26Speaker 3: make me be the best player I can be and
- 18:29Speaker 3: make me the best teammate I can be. And the
- 18:32Speaker 3: guys who don't get that aren't here, Like they're gone,
- 18:35Speaker 3: they don't they do not last, and.
- 18:37Speaker 2: They don't bring them in. They have a very good
- 18:39Speaker 2: filter for bringing them in.
- 18:40Speaker 3: And I think that's something that Dan and his staff
- 18:43Speaker 3: have really cultivated very well. And it's it's it's fantastic
- 18:48Speaker 3: that it's it's.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Weird that it's seen as revolutionary.
- 18:51Speaker 3: He's a guy who's like right, just straight up honest
- 18:53Speaker 3: and and has personal integrity and treats people with respect
- 18:58Speaker 3: and dignity. But that hasn't happened and we see in
- 19:03Speaker 3: a lot of different situations. Yeah, you know, both in
- 19:05Speaker 3: and outside of the sports world, true people the way
- 19:08Speaker 3: that they want to be treated and show that you
- 19:11Speaker 3: care and show that you have passion for what you do,
- 19:13Speaker 3: you're going to be successful.
- 19:14Speaker 2: And that's Dan Campbell in a nutshell.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Absolutely, And I think it's one of the reasons why
- 19:18Speaker 1: this Detroit Lions team Folks is going to be very
- 19:21Speaker 1: successful for many, many years in the future. Again, Folks.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Jeff Risden from the Lions Wire also the Draft Wire
