- 1:02Speaker 3: the greatest to ever do it, James Harden So so
- 1:04Speaker 3: just going on my brother the same. So, yeah, we're
- 1:10Speaker 3: gonna we're gonna get into this man, talk about all
- 1:13Speaker 3: your business. You know, everybody knows what you've done on
- 1:15Speaker 3: the court. We'll talk about that as well, but you
- 1:18Speaker 3: really are quite the mobile these days. A lot of
- 1:21Speaker 3: people might not be aware. So yeah, we frequented some
- 1:23Speaker 3: of some of the portfolio. Yeah, it's uh, it's all right.
- 1:28Speaker 3: I got some work to do, but I'm happy where
- 1:30Speaker 3: I am right now, not.
- 1:31Speaker 5: In place to do.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Yeah, sure, Well, first I want to get into it,
- 1:35Speaker 3: like we're gonna talk about the wine, the water, Adidas, everything,
- 1:39Speaker 3: But who gave you that mindset to start actually wanting
- 1:43Speaker 3: to invest in wanting to be an entrepreneur as opposed
- 1:45Speaker 3: to just being a basketball player.
- 1:49Speaker 6: I think just you know, being in the in the
- 1:52Speaker 6: NBA and just having opportunities and then just you know,
- 1:55Speaker 6: growing as I got, as I get older, and still
- 1:58Speaker 6: to this day, just want to do more. Like I
- 2:01Speaker 6: love music, I love restaurants and food.
- 2:04Speaker 1: I love.
- 2:06Speaker 6: A lot of other things too, but you know what
- 2:08Speaker 6: I mean, So just just finding a way to make
- 2:10Speaker 6: money out out of what I like doing, you know
- 2:12Speaker 6: what I mean. And it might not be the same
- 2:14Speaker 6: as I'm making in the NBA, but you know what
- 2:16Speaker 6: I mean, if I'm making you know a cumultum of
- 2:19Speaker 6: money and it makes sense to something I like doing,
- 2:22Speaker 6: which is considered a hobby, and it's like why not,
- 2:24Speaker 6: you know what I mean? So just finding ways and
- 2:26Speaker 6: as I get older, to figure out what I like
- 2:28Speaker 6: doing and figuring out how to make money off of it.
- 2:31Speaker 6: So but then as an athlete, you know, opportunities to
- 2:34Speaker 6: come my way to where you know, you invest in,
- 2:37Speaker 6: you group the benefits of the return.
- 2:39Speaker 3: How important is that as far as the relationship, Like
- 2:40Speaker 3: a lot of those guys in Golden State make great
- 2:43Speaker 3: relationships with people in Silicon Valley and to help you
- 2:46Speaker 3: know stuff, and a lot of the other guys KD start
- 2:48Speaker 3: investing in tech startups. So that being an athlete, you
- 2:51Speaker 3: meet a lot of people, You have a lot of relationships.
- 2:54Speaker 3: So how important is that? Is like utilizing your relationships
- 2:57Speaker 3: that you have from being a.
- 2:58Speaker 6: Very very important not even just athlete, people in general,
- 3:01Speaker 6: like and I'm sure y'all utilize your relationships as well,
- 3:03Speaker 6: and that's very important.
- 3:05Speaker 5: That's more.
- 3:06Speaker 6: I mean, money is, you know, very very important, but
- 3:09Speaker 6: like relationships is just as important, you know what I mean,
- 3:11Speaker 6: because you never know when the opportunity my presented.
- 3:15Speaker 5: So the beer club. Opportunity came to meet from from
- 3:20Speaker 5: from jay Z.
- 3:22Speaker 6: You know what I mean, Like you called me when
- 3:23Speaker 6: with an opportunity, like listen here, I don't know what
- 3:25Speaker 6: you got going on, but I got opportunity for LM.
- 3:27Speaker 6: Like what what is it like? Like it's a beer
- 3:30Speaker 6: beer club. I'm like, send me to details. I mean,
- 3:34Speaker 6: it's like just having relationships and you know, opening yourself
- 3:39Speaker 6: up to people to where you know, you never know
- 3:41Speaker 6: when you know somebody can you do a favor?
- 3:43Speaker 5: So uh, that was the kind of example.
- 3:45Speaker 7: That you've been into a couple of unique positions throughout
- 3:48Speaker 7: your career. Obviously in Philly or Mike Rubin, we obviously
- 3:52Speaker 7: you know, could see a relationship with him, but.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Now in La back home see Obama.
- 3:56Speaker 7: That's the only of the clip is how much has
- 3:58Speaker 7: the influence of that older ship been on you? Because
- 4:01Speaker 7: obviously David mass a fortune in business. How much is
- 4:06Speaker 7: your relationship as the player slash employee now looking at
- 4:10Speaker 7: it from an ulner standpoint, like you're getting ideas from
- 4:13Speaker 7: them and using them for.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Guidance in the world of business.
- 4:16Speaker 6: It's like it's a balance of like being like the player,
- 4:20Speaker 6: James will always be me like I'm gonna be on
- 4:23Speaker 6: the court, locked in, focused. But it's like a balance
- 4:26Speaker 6: of not trying to be like yo, like trying to
- 4:29Speaker 6: be like like buddy, buddy, and.
- 4:31Speaker 5: You know what I mean.
- 4:32Speaker 6: Like, but then it's like not having no pride and
- 4:34Speaker 6: be like listen, how you how you make this or
- 4:36Speaker 6: what you do here in this situation?
- 4:38Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying.
- 4:38Speaker 6: So I've randomly met Mike Rubin, like in Bahamas at
- 4:42Speaker 6: a blackjack table outside he was playing cards and he's like, yo,
- 4:46Speaker 6: I'm you know, I'm like, I'm watching.
- 4:47Speaker 1: I'm kind of like the.
- 4:49Speaker 6: Gamble a little bit too, and I don't like people
- 4:50Speaker 6: looking over my shoulder when I'm gambling, but I was
- 4:52Speaker 6: doing it and he kept looking back next to meet you,
- 4:54Speaker 6: like I'm Mike Group and I'm, you know, one of
- 4:56Speaker 6: the owners of the Sixers, and I'm like, next to
- 4:58Speaker 6: meet you. I think he's out there for like his
- 5:00Speaker 6: daughter birthday or so. Anyways, so he ended up like
- 5:03Speaker 6: leaving and then we were just locked in from there.
- 5:05Speaker 6: But just any time I got an opportunity or or
- 5:09Speaker 6: a question like just reaching out to him, and I
- 5:11Speaker 6: haven't got that relative that far with with Steve yet Barber.
- 5:15Speaker 6: But that's like you know, my my my focus is
- 5:18Speaker 6: to kind of like pick his brain and understand, you know,
- 5:21Speaker 6: his mindset every single day because you know it don't hurt.
- 5:24Speaker 6: And guys like that or are courteous and they want
- 5:27Speaker 6: to give off information, you know what I mean. And
- 5:28Speaker 6: people don't have the opportunity. So I feel like I
- 5:30Speaker 6: got to take advantage of you.
- 5:32Speaker 7: Notice that the higher they're up and more successful are
- 5:34Speaker 7: all them, the more they want to tell I want
- 5:36Speaker 7: at this point of your career, obviously as a season
- 5:38Speaker 7: veat when you're coming up as a young player, there's
- 5:41Speaker 7: guys that are giving you advice. Obviously we sow the
- 5:43Speaker 7: body on the situation. Cole, I'm sure how you know exactly?
- 5:49Speaker 7: So as the veteran, now are you looking at the
- 5:51Speaker 7: young guys the bones hollers of the other world, like
- 5:55Speaker 7: help your fellows, I could, this is the advice I
- 5:57Speaker 7: can give you.
- 5:57Speaker 1: And how receptive are the younger guys to businessmen?
- 6:00Speaker 6: Just I don't really like I'm be to myself a lot,
- 6:04Speaker 6: Like I talked to my teammates and you know, somebody
- 6:06Speaker 6: like the Terrence man who's invested in and.
- 6:10Speaker 5: Recover on eighty and he got a couple other things
- 6:14Speaker 5: that he's done.
- 6:14Speaker 6: But you know, if they asked me, or if I
- 6:17Speaker 6: see opportunity for somebody, I'll definitely say something. And even
- 6:21Speaker 6: somebody like uh checked the Center for the thunder. Uh
- 6:26Speaker 6: Me's thinking about you know, investments in water as well.
- 6:28Speaker 6: But it's an opportunity. Like Cold basically was like, yeah,
- 6:31Speaker 6: we're gonna put a stash of like five million dollars
- 6:34Speaker 6: and then any like business opportunities. It might be a
- 6:36Speaker 6: little two hundred thousand, it might be you know, five
- 6:38Speaker 6: hundred thousand, just depending on what you know, what an
- 6:40Speaker 6: investment it is. But we're gonna put a pot together.
- 6:42Speaker 6: We just gonna you know, invest our money. Rest in
- 6:44Speaker 6: peace before he passed away. But Body Armor was was
- 6:47Speaker 6: was the beginning of that, and we you know, we've
- 6:49Speaker 6: seen how it is. We built the whole business up
- 6:52Speaker 6: and it took eight to ten years, you know what
- 6:53Speaker 6: I mean, and then you know, look what it's done.
- 6:55Speaker 6: So you knows, as you know, sixteen years on Sweet sixteen,
- 7:00Speaker 6: going into the league, I just try to, you know,
- 7:02Speaker 6: give the guys as much opportunity and game as they want.
- 7:06Speaker 6: But I'm not going to force it on them because
- 7:08Speaker 6: you know nowadays these young dudes is kind of crazy.
- 7:12Speaker 6: Wow a little bit, and I don't got time for that.
- 7:15Speaker 6: I stay in my own little lane.
- 7:17Speaker 1: You know.
- 7:17Speaker 3: I always wondered, like, you made I think over three
- 7:21Speaker 3: hundred million dollars in your career on the court, not
- 7:23Speaker 3: including endorsement tales. You play for Texas teams in Texas Houston,
- 7:28Speaker 3: there's no state income tax right now. You play in
- 7:30Speaker 3: n LA, which has the highest state income tax. Do
- 7:33Speaker 3: you think about that?
- 7:35Speaker 1: Yes, yes, I was in New York.
- 7:39Speaker 6: Yes, be thinking like damn, don't want to go there, Like, yeah,
- 7:45Speaker 6: that's that's But then you're like, all right, cool, it's
- 7:48Speaker 6: a business opportunity because you know, New York and La
- 7:51Speaker 6: are bicker markets. Come on now, So you got an
- 7:53Speaker 6: opportunity to make a lot of money, meet a lot
- 7:55Speaker 6: of people that you wouldn't be able to meet, and
- 7:58Speaker 6: no disrespect like Oklahoma or.
- 8:00Speaker 5: You know what I mean.
- 8:00Speaker 6: So it's just it's a give and take. So when
- 8:03Speaker 6: you're there, you got to really lock in and focus.
- 8:06Speaker 6: My time in New York wasn't the greatest just because
- 8:08Speaker 6: it's not basketball, but you know, basketball is a.
- 8:10Speaker 5: Part of it. But it was you know, it was COVID.
- 8:13Speaker 6: So I didn't really get the opportunity to run across
- 8:14Speaker 6: the people that I really needed to run across, you
- 8:16Speaker 6: know what I mean. Because once I get in your
- 8:18Speaker 6: face and you hear me, and just like I'm a corner,
- 8:22Speaker 6: you in you know what I mean.
- 8:23Speaker 5: Not in a bad way, but just that's that's my personality.
- 8:26Speaker 5: So I didn't. I didn't.
- 8:27Speaker 6: I didn't feel like my New York time was a success,
- 8:30Speaker 6: you know, as much as I wanted it to be
- 8:31Speaker 6: so here back at home in l I feel like
- 8:33Speaker 6: I need to kind of double that up.
- 8:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:37Speaker 7: So at the end of this deal, but you're in now,
- 8:39Speaker 7: I think the total would be four hundred for fifteen
- 8:42Speaker 7: million in contracts.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Have some good camera yeah, yeah, we know what to
- 8:46Speaker 1: do with the counter too. Uh, that's just on the court.
- 8:50Speaker 7: We take the Yadida thirteen year deal two hundred million,
- 8:53Speaker 7: not over half a billion. Once about the expansion of
- 8:57Speaker 7: the brand right as on the court is one thing.
- 9:00Speaker 7: But I've seen you do it, and I've seen a
- 9:02Speaker 7: couple of other guys. Do I remember when de Rose
- 9:03Speaker 7: had the Adida deal. We have to go to China.
- 9:06Speaker 7: I so you recently just came back. Talk about the
- 9:10Speaker 7: difference in the reception when you're over there, because when
- 9:12Speaker 7: I see you go, I'm like, this guy's a.
- 9:16Speaker 1: She is like to talk about that.
- 9:18Speaker 7: I mean, because a lot of young colors and they
- 9:20Speaker 7: don't understand the global economy. Obviously you're doing it and
- 9:24Speaker 7: deed understands it very well and talk about why they
- 9:27Speaker 7: do it and the influence.
- 9:28Speaker 6: Over there, it's a different like ball game, it's like
- 9:33Speaker 6: a movie over there, like they really embrace and cherish like.
- 9:37Speaker 5: Stars. I feel like here in America, we don't, like.
- 9:42Speaker 6: You walk past and see I don't know, somebody, I
- 9:45Speaker 6: would think that's famous, and people just walk like it's nothing,
- 9:48Speaker 6: you know what I mean. But over there, it's like
- 9:50Speaker 6: they didn't they cherish you like they like, you know,
- 9:52Speaker 6: because they don't really the opportunity to see people like that,
- 9:54Speaker 6: you know what I mean.
- 9:55Speaker 5: And I feel like we take we take things like.
- 9:58Speaker 6: That for granted, like we call people that's fa or
- 10:01Speaker 6: think that they're famous just because we see them on
- 10:03Speaker 6: TV or they got a million follows on Instagram that
- 10:06Speaker 6: they're not famous, but like real famous people that we
- 10:10Speaker 6: know that we you know, as celebrities, they cherish people
- 10:13Speaker 6: like that, So I think just giving my time to
- 10:16Speaker 6: them and expressing how much I appreciate them and the
- 10:19Speaker 6: love and support that they got for me, it's very,
- 10:22Speaker 6: very valuable. So like you know, once people go over
- 10:25Speaker 6: there and they see the love that they got, especially
- 10:26Speaker 6: for athletes and specific athletes, it's like, you know, your
- 10:31Speaker 6: whole monster changed. So for me, I think I just
- 10:33Speaker 6: taking advantage of Adidas and you know, my wine and
- 10:37Speaker 6: giving the people something to kind of like lash on
- 10:39Speaker 6: to me.
- 10:40Speaker 3: How you feel about the state of the NBA as
- 10:42Speaker 3: far as money, because Mark Cuban recently said, like, you know,
- 10:44Speaker 3: one hundred million dollars a year, that's where it's had
- 10:46Speaker 3: it a billion dollar contracts, like you know, to the
- 10:49Speaker 3: point where people, he said, players are going to start
- 10:52Speaker 3: making more money than him as an owner a year.
- 10:55Speaker 5: That's like I said. He said that.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Yeah, you can say what you're going to say, impossible
- 11:03Speaker 1: said anything you're not buying that it's too expensive. Uh,
- 11:10Speaker 1: Mark Cuban, Yeah, he said that, he said, he said.
- 11:12Speaker 3: He said, it's getting to a point where eventually a
- 11:14Speaker 3: player is gonna make a hundred million dollars a year
- 11:17Speaker 3: just from playing basketball At that point, they would make
- 11:19Speaker 3: more money a year then he's making and he's.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Not making an I don't believe that.
- 11:25Speaker 5: But whatever anywhay is.
- 11:28Speaker 6: Like, it's it's I'm first of all, like I'm not
- 11:30Speaker 6: the old head, naive player that I want to see
- 11:35Speaker 6: all the young guys that deserve and want to take
- 11:38Speaker 6: get their family out there.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I want them to make a hundred million a year.
- 11:41Speaker 1: I want everybody to get money.
- 11:43Speaker 6: But that's when we got to really implement like the
- 11:45Speaker 6: financial literacy part of it to where they're just not
- 11:48Speaker 6: out here just doing anything with the money and they like,
- 11:50Speaker 6: you know, making sure that that the money is going
- 11:53Speaker 6: ready to go. You're still going to ball, You're still
- 11:54Speaker 6: gonna have your phone, but like sending yourself up for
- 11:56Speaker 6: generational wealth and making sure is on the right way
- 12:01Speaker 6: because basketball is the biggest sport in the world and
- 12:03Speaker 6: it's just going to continue to grow global and global
- 12:05Speaker 6: and get bigger and bigger, so you can't control it.
- 12:07Speaker 6: Money gonna keep getting longer. So I mean for us,
- 12:10Speaker 6: I think it's just finding ways and make sure the
- 12:12Speaker 6: players is doing the right things with money.
- 12:14Speaker 5: What is that?
- 12:15Speaker 3: What is the steps to that? Because we have a
- 12:17Speaker 3: hard stories a lot. Is it a financial advisor?
- 12:19Speaker 5: I mean, of course.
- 12:20Speaker 6: I mean when you're making that much money, supports to
- 12:21Speaker 6: ask somebody, you know, watching the money and investing and
- 12:24Speaker 6: strategically investing.
- 12:27Speaker 5: And just doing the right things like everybody else is.
- 12:29Speaker 6: I mean, everybody is different for they how they want to,
- 12:31Speaker 6: you know, invest their money and do with their money.
- 12:33Speaker 6: But as long as you're doing something and making your
- 12:37Speaker 6: money double, then you know, that's all I can That's
- 12:42Speaker 6: all I can.
- 12:43Speaker 7: With Coming in a position that you're in the power
- 12:47Speaker 7: of no is something that is realistic, right, I mean,
- 12:51Speaker 7: people are documing your salaries, documented, people understand how much
- 12:54Speaker 7: you're making.
- 12:56Speaker 1: How difficult or how challenging is it to.
- 13:00Speaker 7: Distinguished between you know what I can help you or Nah,
- 13:04Speaker 7: this is now charity. No, we have to get it
- 13:06Speaker 7: on your own, or I can give you a sentence
- 13:08Speaker 7: or a resource that has nothing to do with financial tangibles,
- 13:11Speaker 7: but actually networking with somebody, Like how has that been
- 13:15Speaker 7: for you throughout your career?
- 13:16Speaker 5: You're talking about like we're family or just.
- 13:17Speaker 6: People family family specifically, they still struggle with it, Like
- 13:21Speaker 6: that's gonna be a constant struggle because some days I'll
- 13:26Speaker 6: be feeling better than others, you know what I mean?
- 13:28Speaker 6: To where are you know, it's like the things that
- 13:31Speaker 6: you need, like my mom and sister, but like they
- 13:33Speaker 6: got houses and car like they you know, they're good.
- 13:37Speaker 5: But then it's like what do you need it for?
- 13:40Speaker 6: Like if it's something that is necessary, then I'm gonna
- 13:44Speaker 6: help you or I'm gonna put you in a position.
- 13:46Speaker 6: I might not give you some money, but I'm put
- 13:48Speaker 6: you in a position to where you know you can
- 13:50Speaker 6: be good.
- 13:51Speaker 5: But if it's just something that you see or that you.
- 13:52Speaker 6: Just want, none for you unless you might catch me
- 13:57Speaker 6: on a good day where I might it's like I'm
- 14:01Speaker 6: getting older and I you know, I don't got time
- 14:04Speaker 6: for no more. Like I'm gonna.
- 14:05Speaker 1: I'm gonna.
- 14:05Speaker 5: I'm in a whole different headspace.
- 14:06Speaker 6: And now it's like I don't know how many years
- 14:09Speaker 6: I got left in the NBA, but like my business
- 14:11Speaker 6: savvy mindset got to take over to where you know,
- 14:15Speaker 6: I gotta, I gotta I think like you know, Steve
- 14:17Speaker 6: Barmber and Mike Rubin and my other mentors and guys
- 14:21Speaker 6: that I look up to so and they're not doing that.
- 14:24Speaker 5: So you know what I mean, how you think they
- 14:27Speaker 5: got to where they at.
- 14:28Speaker 3: So so what Adida is Obviously you've been with them
- 14:31Speaker 3: for a long time, but I heard that you actually
- 14:35Speaker 3: you're part of the creative process as well. Right, we'll
- 14:37Speaker 3: talk about your relationship, what the data is over the years,
- 14:40Speaker 3: and and how you've been able to kind of add
- 14:42Speaker 3: you get input on it.
- 14:45Speaker 5: We've we've we've created some really really uh.
- 14:50Speaker 6: Game changing shoes and yeah eight and like the whole
- 14:58Speaker 6: like it's son owning. How many pairs of sneakers have
- 15:02Speaker 6: been created, like millions, So it's a hard process to
- 15:05Speaker 6: kind of figure out which lane we want to go to.
- 15:07Speaker 6: But I think for me just creating that that fashion
- 15:13Speaker 6: side of me with the basketball sneaker and combined it
- 15:16Speaker 6: like most NBA players just make a rough ash like
- 15:21Speaker 6: basketball shoe, you know what I mean, my own mind
- 15:23Speaker 6: to be fly to where you on we channel like
- 15:26Speaker 6: this or we in a vibe, we had dinner, we
- 15:28Speaker 6: can rock my sneaks, you know what I mean, and
- 15:30Speaker 6: then go get somebody forty on the court. And that's
- 15:33Speaker 6: the kind of balance that I've been trying to create
- 15:35Speaker 6: for these shoes. And most of the time when you
- 15:38Speaker 6: see like guys like my age fifteen sixteen.
- 15:42Speaker 5: On the decline, whatever you want to call it.
- 15:45Speaker 6: They sneakers drop, they you know, they go down, but
- 15:48Speaker 6: mine's just you know, going up still. And it's a
- 15:51Speaker 6: blessing because I mean, we're doing something right. And you know,
- 15:55Speaker 6: it's been it's been a little rocky, and we had
- 15:57Speaker 6: some internal things going on with Adidas that were pub
- 16:00Speaker 6: but now I think we found our groove and we're
- 16:01Speaker 6: in a good space to where we're gonna continue to keep.
- 16:04Speaker 3: Out because a lot of times, it's like record labels.
- 16:06Speaker 3: A lot of times people get disgruntled with this shoe company,
- 16:10Speaker 3: then they go to Twitter, then they air.
- 16:11Speaker 5: Them out, and I'm not doing none of that.
- 16:14Speaker 1: So how you've been able to manage differences and like
- 16:17Speaker 1: and keep a good relationship.
- 16:18Speaker 5: Cursing people out on the phone and making sure we
- 16:20Speaker 5: get it right, Like I'm going on Twitter? What are
- 16:26Speaker 5: we doing?
- 16:27Speaker 6: You know, I don't really You never gonna see me
- 16:29Speaker 6: have a rant on Twitter or Instagram like ever ever. Ever,
- 16:32Speaker 6: that's not for whoever. That's not that's for whoever to me.
- 16:35Speaker 6: And you got a problem, I'm calling you. I ain't
- 16:37Speaker 6: going to Twitter talking about you know what I mean?
- 16:39Speaker 6: So just having that constant communication and trying to figure
- 16:44Speaker 6: out and everything ain't always be perfect, you know, in
- 16:47Speaker 6: any business. But you know the more you push and
- 16:49Speaker 6: try to get it right and and figure things out
- 16:52Speaker 6: to where it's beneficial for everybody, and everybody can you know,
- 16:55Speaker 6: get on the same page and good things that happened.
- 16:57Speaker 1: And I think that's where we're at. How much influence?
- 16:59Speaker 7: I know you one of those guys that got the
- 17:02Speaker 7: lifetime deal, right, Not many guys get those type of deals.
- 17:05Speaker 7: I could probably count, not yet I think you, well,
- 17:08Speaker 7: twelve thirteen, not the lifetime, but.
- 17:10Speaker 5: Thirteen thirty times. That's what we're working on. I'm speaking.
- 17:18Speaker 1: You see what I'm saying. So what influence?
- 17:19Speaker 7: Because because when I think of basketball and I think
- 17:23Speaker 7: of shoe companies, it also becomes a family.
- 17:26Speaker 1: The guys from that other brand they stick together. The
- 17:29Speaker 1: guys that are data are together.
- 17:30Speaker 7: How much influence do you have in getting those guys
- 17:33Speaker 7: over so when it's when it's Donovan Mitchell, or it's
- 17:36Speaker 7: Dame or now with Aunt, how much influence you like?
- 17:39Speaker 7: You know, we got something building over here, right like
- 17:41Speaker 7: your shoe drops This one I thought was crazy. Ants
- 17:44Speaker 7: drops both for them in contential for Sneaker of the Year.
- 17:48Speaker 7: What's your role in the influence of getting those guys
- 17:50Speaker 7: over there, and then the creative poss of saying like
- 17:52Speaker 7: that shit was dope as the eldert, as the statesman
- 17:54Speaker 7: now like a hoops.
- 17:56Speaker 6: Yeah, well, I mean, honestly, my art got to be better,
- 18:00Speaker 6: and I can be in a sense of like you know,
- 18:03Speaker 6: getting guys in rally, but like we're in the in
- 18:05Speaker 6: the in the in the process of like figuring out
- 18:08Speaker 6: our team, you know, because internal things going on. But
- 18:13Speaker 6: like once we figure that out, like like you said,
- 18:15Speaker 6: is killing it right now, like on and off the
- 18:17Speaker 6: court with a sneaker. You know, Don is doing this thing.
- 18:21Speaker 6: You know d Rose, he just he just retired, but
- 18:23Speaker 6: he was doing his thing and then obviously Dame, but
- 18:28Speaker 6: just just finding ways, man, like the other brand is
- 18:32Speaker 6: has been that the brand for a very very very
- 18:34Speaker 6: long time. So trying to find ways to compete and
- 18:38Speaker 6: and and and keep building and make it some competitive
- 18:41Speaker 6: to where you know, like they y'all see us too,
- 18:46Speaker 6: and to bring that personality out on on and off
- 18:49Speaker 6: the court. For the sneaker, it's it's a it's a
- 18:51Speaker 6: tough it's a tough battle. But you know, I think
- 18:54Speaker 6: I've been trying to, like, you know, push that needle
- 18:56Speaker 6: and force it. And we got a long way to go.
- 18:59Speaker 6: But it as long as guys like man keep doing
- 19:03Speaker 6: this thing and then the next generation of guys and
- 19:05Speaker 6: younger guys come up, Uh, you know, we would be
- 19:07Speaker 6: in a good hands ship.
- 19:08Speaker 1: It's definitely happened. You started to see they just fired
- 19:10Speaker 1: their CEO.
- 19:11Speaker 7: But you can start to see the league is changing,
- 19:14Speaker 7: right even like a guy like Kawhi, he's not with
- 19:16Speaker 7: either of those two brands.
- 19:18Speaker 5: The guys that even somebody like you know, Kyrie or.
- 19:21Speaker 7: Exactly got his own. Jayleen just got his own. Joel's
- 19:24Speaker 7: sund with sketches. I just saw a Cooper flag the nets.
- 19:28Speaker 7: Next guy he's with a different brand.
- 19:30Speaker 3: How do you feel about like, let's talk about Jayleen
- 19:32Speaker 3: bron specific. I think he turned down fifty million from
- 19:34Speaker 3: somebody it used to be with y'all. No, he was
- 19:37Speaker 3: never to do this, No, I don't think so. But anyway,
- 19:39Speaker 3: he started what he was I'm sure he was.
- 19:42Speaker 1: He started it on.
- 19:44Speaker 3: He started his own company, his own sneaker brand. What's
- 19:47Speaker 3: your thoughts on guys doing that? Because it's happening a
- 19:50Speaker 3: lot now, like with Kyrie him. Now you got like
- 19:52Speaker 3: superstar players that hadn't really happened before shots never happen,
- 19:56Speaker 3: had it?
- 19:57Speaker 7: But was respect the shot shot span away for this
- 20:02Speaker 7: Yeah yeah, staph had at the strawberries.
- 20:06Speaker 5: No, yeah, that stuff.
- 20:07Speaker 1: But I'm just saying, man, that's my god that I
- 20:12Speaker 1: got the seris man, was it was moment fifteen dollars kicks.
- 20:16Speaker 5: Yeah, we knew what it was for, like.
- 20:20Speaker 8: Community give back, but I'm just saying it that it's crazy.
- 20:24Speaker 8: I'm saying like that was was it was community give
- 20:27Speaker 8: back in fifteen dollars. He was hooping in the shooting
- 20:30Speaker 8: the community.
- 20:32Speaker 1: I'm saying it was. It meant to rival Jordan's brand
- 20:36Speaker 1: nothing but no, I mean it was an affordable shot
- 20:38Speaker 1: for the say that for sure.
- 20:40Speaker 3: But how you feel about guys like stop stop, how
- 20:43Speaker 3: you felt about star players going like going out on
- 20:46Speaker 3: It's a lot of work, man, it's a lot of work.
- 20:49Speaker 5: It's a lot of work.
- 20:50Speaker 6: You got to get like the right team and like
- 20:53Speaker 6: I haven't heard about uh, you know, Jayleen having his
- 20:56Speaker 6: own shoes and you know, congrats to him and all that, but.
- 21:00Speaker 5: It's a lot of work, and the shoe gotta be functional,
- 21:02Speaker 5: like you know what I mean.
- 21:03Speaker 6: You got to really make the right team together and
- 21:05Speaker 6: have a shoe that you could still be the same
- 21:07Speaker 6: person that you was the previous year.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Ball.
- 21:10Speaker 6: I was gonna say the big ball, you feel me now,
- 21:12Speaker 6: I don't know if it was a sneaker, you don't know.
- 21:14Speaker 6: I don't know if it was a sneaker, but you
- 21:16Speaker 6: know that can change your whole life, change, you know
- 21:20Speaker 6: what I mean.
- 21:21Speaker 5: So like we got to look at things like that.
- 21:22Speaker 6: But if you're pan out for him, which I hope
- 21:24Speaker 6: the best for him, and I hope the shoe, you know,
- 21:27Speaker 6: go crazy and then you know it is what is?
- 21:31Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Much, No T hundred yeah something that's that's a good price.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Premium now, premium shoe, premium shoot now.
- 21:43Speaker 7: I like support everybody. I support definitely must support the
- 21:49Speaker 7: entrepreneur a million percent. And we've met him a few times.
- 21:54Speaker 7: I don't have any.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Kyrie's right now.
- 21:56Speaker 5: I gotta get some.
- 21:58Speaker 1: I gotta get some, but I.
- 22:00Speaker 7: I would just just buy him just to have him
- 22:01Speaker 7: two hundreds to just because somebody, yo, that's an entrepreneur
- 22:04Speaker 7: for sure.
- 22:04Speaker 3: He met the dude he's a brilliant guy. Could God
- 22:06Speaker 3: look love what he's doing? Yeah, so saw fanatics, let's
- 22:10Speaker 3: talk about that. You talked about MIKEL.
- 22:11Speaker 5: Rubin.
- 22:12Speaker 3: I know you have your your you have ownership and fanatics.
- 22:15Speaker 3: You haven't fought you work with him though, right, partnership?
- 22:17Speaker 3: So what's what's that working relationship like with Ax? And
- 22:21Speaker 3: talk about the relationship with Mike Ruper because he's become
- 22:24Speaker 3: a very known figure in the culture from working with
- 22:28Speaker 3: entertainers and athletes. But he's like a mystery people don't
- 22:31Speaker 3: really know too much other than like the White Party
- 22:34Speaker 3: or you know what I'm saying.
- 22:35Speaker 1: So talk about.
- 22:39Speaker 6: He's uh, he's a genius man like he he was,
- 22:44Speaker 6: you know, he was owner of the Sixers. Fanax is
- 22:48Speaker 6: growing so fast that he had to give his partner.
- 22:51Speaker 6: I mean, is is uh his piece of ownership of
- 22:54Speaker 6: for the team because of the player, the relationships that
- 22:58Speaker 6: he had and then obviously the busines is growing so
- 23:00Speaker 6: fast and the business is crazy and he continues to find.
- 23:04Speaker 5: Find the ways to you know, continue to build it.
- 23:06Speaker 6: But he's a genius man, like he'll he'll be up
- 23:10Speaker 6: six am and all the way up to nine ten pm,
- 23:14Speaker 6: like meetings and meetings and meet like every single day,
- 23:17Speaker 6: you know what I mean, And right there it just
- 23:18Speaker 6: shows me like only fifty some years old, sixty maybe
- 23:22Speaker 6: I don't know, don't quote me on that, but just
- 23:25Speaker 6: to see somebody that age, that caliber doing it and
- 23:27Speaker 6: not getting satisfied, not being stagged and worth a lot
- 23:31Speaker 6: of money, it's like.
- 23:33Speaker 1: What the hell am I doing?
- 23:34Speaker 5: You know what I mean?
- 23:35Speaker 6: Show us up and you know what I mean and
- 23:37Speaker 6: figure it out. But like just anytime I need help, man,
- 23:41Speaker 6: he's like one call away. And just watching him and
- 23:44Speaker 6: being around him for these past six seven years, it's
- 23:48Speaker 6: a life changer for me.
- 23:49Speaker 5: Like Danny like a like a genie.
- 23:51Speaker 1: What's some of the things that you kind of just
- 23:53Speaker 1: picked up his business.
- 23:55Speaker 6: Savvy, like how to negotiate, how we not like we're
- 23:58Speaker 6: not taking less than what we and you know we deserve.
- 24:03Speaker 7: That.
- 24:03Speaker 5: Right there alone just helped me, you know what I mean.
- 24:06Speaker 5: And just I don't know, man, just it's like I
- 24:09Speaker 5: don't know.
- 24:12Speaker 1: We Uh, this is a great story. We actually came
- 24:15Speaker 1: to Houston.
- 24:18Speaker 7: During the late August a few years back and usually
- 24:21Speaker 7: that's James hard on weekend and they were telling us
- 24:25Speaker 7: about the Spirits and us. We were trying to meet
- 24:27Speaker 7: you then and obviously, you know, schedules didn't work out.
- 24:30Speaker 7: They were telling us about the Spirits. Fast forward to
- 24:33Speaker 7: present day?
- 24:34Speaker 1: Is here?
- 24:35Speaker 7: Where'd you get the idea from it? Who's been to
- 24:37Speaker 7: advise you in this space? And is this something that
- 24:41Speaker 7: you know? Obviously it's tough to say. Did you dream
- 24:43Speaker 7: of this? Nobody dreams of like, oh, I'm gonna make
- 24:45Speaker 7: this brand. But at what point of you created did
- 24:47Speaker 7: this become important? Because we've been around a lot of athletes. Yeah,
- 24:50Speaker 7: And one thing that we've noticed is that a lot
- 24:52Speaker 7: of these guys are like wine kind of source, like
- 24:54Speaker 7: having dinner with Mellow with mav and they're talking about
- 24:58Speaker 7: like wine.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Like it's like like lead, Like they're elite. It's like
- 25:03Speaker 2: it's such a foreign language. It's like they know it
- 25:05Speaker 2: by year in region. And I'm like, Yo, when did
- 25:07Speaker 2: y'all that's there?
- 25:08Speaker 5: They're they're a different level. They've been doing this for
- 25:10Speaker 5: a long time.
- 25:11Speaker 1: How is that influence kind of pushed you in this No?
- 25:16Speaker 5: You know what I mean?
- 25:17Speaker 6: Like it looked like as just being around those guys,
- 25:20Speaker 6: they're very very intelligent, especially you guys like you know,
- 25:23Speaker 6: like you said, Mellow and mav and you know Chris
- 25:26Speaker 6: Paul and those guys like that whole group Bron obviously
- 25:29Speaker 6: you know that whole group is is is you know,
- 25:33Speaker 6: very very very intelligent. But the opportunity came to me,
- 25:36Speaker 6: and I'm just like, I don't really you know, I
- 25:39Speaker 6: don't really drink one like that, you know what I mean.
- 25:41Speaker 6: And long story short, I'm just I'm in all the
- 25:45Speaker 6: processes though, from the fruits and the bottle, the label,
- 25:52Speaker 6: the what is it going to look like?
- 25:55Speaker 5: Is it too much?
- 25:55Speaker 6: Or should we be like calm? And and I'm like
- 25:59Speaker 6: what am I doing? Like I'm in a like this
- 26:01Speaker 6: is a real thing. And then I'm like, let's do it.
- 26:05Speaker 6: Just because I'm getting older, I can't be taking shots
- 26:09Speaker 6: crazy no more. Like I do it every once in
- 26:10Speaker 6: a while, but just after a game on the wine down,
- 26:13Speaker 6: just have a couple of glasses of wine and call
- 26:14Speaker 6: it a night. And then it's a new It's it's
- 26:17Speaker 6: an opportunity for me.
- 26:18Speaker 5: Let's just try it. And so, you know, it was
- 26:21Speaker 5: like three or four meetings tasted the wine, you know
- 26:25Speaker 5: what I mean. We had.
- 26:27Speaker 6: Examples of ten bottles of wine and all of them
- 26:31Speaker 6: are black and white. Basically, Like if you look at
- 26:32Speaker 6: the wine category, it's all black and white. So I'm like,
- 26:35Speaker 6: what are we gonna be disruptive in this in this business?
- 26:38Speaker 5: You know what I mean?
- 26:39Speaker 6: Or because I've seen guys you know d Wade had
- 26:40Speaker 6: his wine, Well he still got his wine. Uh, you
- 26:43Speaker 6: got somebody like snow Dog got his wine. You know,
- 26:45Speaker 6: it's a lot of people have their wine. So like,
- 26:47Speaker 6: how can we be disruptive? Like I'm disruptive boom. You
- 26:51Speaker 6: look at the bottle, it just stands out. You put
- 26:53Speaker 6: ten bottles alongside of us, we stand out. And then
- 26:56Speaker 6: our price point is to where it's like it's for everybody,
- 26:59Speaker 6: you know what I mean. So just reading a lane
- 27:00Speaker 6: for myself in the business to where you know, it's
- 27:03Speaker 6: feasible for everybody and everybody can try it, and you
- 27:05Speaker 6: know what I mean, it can be it can be
- 27:07Speaker 6: your go to you know what I mean. So the
- 27:10Speaker 6: opportunity came, it presented itself, and now we got some
- 27:14Speaker 6: special you sell it over the counter.
- 27:18Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, we just got an Uh.
- 27:21Speaker 6: We landed this deal with seven eleven I think it's
- 27:24Speaker 6: like seventeen hundred eighteen hundred stores that we're about to
- 27:27Speaker 6: go in. So like we're building a business, you know,
- 27:30Speaker 6: and obviously like just trying to get it in the restaurants,
- 27:34Speaker 6: you know, Tokyo Madera's and having meetings with other other
- 27:38Speaker 6: big time people that own a lot of restaurants that's
- 27:40Speaker 6: trying to get it in there. It could be a
- 27:42Speaker 6: house one that, you know what I mean, trying to
- 27:45Speaker 6: get this business to one hundred two hundred three hundred million.
- 27:48Speaker 7: We can't just breeze over Toko Madara one of our
- 27:52Speaker 7: favorite places, but there is another one one of our
- 27:54Speaker 7: favorite places to visit talk about. I mean, is this
- 27:57Speaker 7: one of these things where you would go into the
- 27:59Speaker 7: restaurant and you know, maybe the owner just happened to
- 28:02Speaker 7: see you in that like a lot did this come about?
- 28:05Speaker 5: So like, I'm just going to Toko we are. I'm
- 28:07Speaker 5: from La So I go to toky here, you know
- 28:09Speaker 5: what I mean? Here and there? And then Hoggy one
- 28:12Speaker 5: of my homies.
- 28:13Speaker 6: Cool going to the homies cool man Blewie. Yeah, yeah,
- 28:19Speaker 6: So Hoggy we went to I went to we went
- 28:21Speaker 6: to middle school together. Young brother yea, my real brother,
- 28:26Speaker 6: so he I guess he had a relationship with Sasha
- 28:29Speaker 6: one of the guys, one of the guys that him
- 28:31Speaker 6: and his brother like you know, basically owners of Toka anyways,
- 28:35Speaker 6: so you bring me in Toka and then he introduced
- 28:37Speaker 6: me to Sasha and then you know, I mean Sasha
- 28:40Speaker 6: started talking.
- 28:40Speaker 5: He's like, I might have an opportunity.
- 28:42Speaker 6: We're trying to expand you know whatever, No story short.
- 28:47Speaker 6: We went Scottsdale first, then we went Vegas. We just
- 28:52Speaker 6: opened up in Houston and go to Miami and then
- 28:56Speaker 6: we might go like Dubai and then we uh and
- 29:00Speaker 6: then we started like a more fast food chain called
- 29:02Speaker 6: Tokaya as well. So that's just another opportunity that came
- 29:07Speaker 6: the relationship. Hogy introduced me and and I Hogy fil
- 29:11Speaker 6: by the way.
- 29:11Speaker 1: But h Man out here, that's the thing. He low
- 29:15Speaker 1: he low key, but you know she's savvy as well.
- 29:19Speaker 6: So with the water coming to play, Uh, Lance Lance Collins,
- 29:27Speaker 6: who who's a big he on her body armor so
- 29:31Speaker 6: he was like you was in He was in body
- 29:33Speaker 6: armor with me early you and Kobe, and I see,
- 29:36Speaker 6: I seen what.
- 29:37Speaker 5: Kobe did with that crazy So I only put whatever
- 29:42Speaker 5: I put like five.
- 29:44Speaker 6: Hundred grand into body armor and it got me a
- 29:47Speaker 6: good amount of amount of amount of money back. But
- 29:50Speaker 6: I see, I think, I think Kobe, if I'm not mistaken,
- 29:53Speaker 6: put like eight million into it, like all in eight nine.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Million, eighty eight turned into what not four hundred? Yeah
- 30:00Speaker 1: he talk about eighty fun fun? Yeah, you feel me?
- 30:03Speaker 7: So that's hip hop though, Like when when when when
- 30:06Speaker 7: fifty said co Cola bought the Pavilions.
- 30:08Speaker 1: That's what's up.
- 30:09Speaker 5: Yes, literally, that's what happened. That's what happened. So Lance came,
- 30:13Speaker 5: he spend the block, came back to me like yo.
- 30:15Speaker 6: He was one of the early investors and body Armor
- 30:18Speaker 6: I got this opportunities was in was already in play.
- 30:21Speaker 5: I'm like, so Lance is like in the in the
- 30:24Speaker 5: in the drink space.
- 30:25Speaker 6: So he'd he built up core water and sold it.
- 30:30Speaker 6: That's just like things building up drinks. And he has
- 30:33Speaker 6: a relationship with Pepsi, co Cola, you know, or you
- 30:36Speaker 6: name it. But he has zen water, he has Accelerated,
- 30:40Speaker 6: which is my energy drink. He got Recovery in eighty
- 30:45Speaker 6: and then he got a tequila called Casasa, not the
- 30:52Speaker 6: not the Gini bottle.
- 30:54Speaker 5: It's called Costa anyways.
- 30:56Speaker 6: So he did a really good job of just you know,
- 30:59Speaker 6: building up, and he was like, it's an opportunity for you,
- 31:01Speaker 6: which you want to do. So I'm invested with Lance Man,
- 31:04Speaker 6: he he got he got Travis Kelsey as well, who's
- 31:07Speaker 6: killing it obviously, and he's invested in all of them
- 31:10Speaker 6: as well. So another opportunity to build a brand up
- 31:12Speaker 6: and and you know, figure it out later. So it
- 31:15Speaker 6: really comes down to relationships, relationships. And he was like,
- 31:18Speaker 6: with Body Armor, he was like, I think it took
- 31:20Speaker 6: him like eleven twelve. I think they sold to co
- 31:22Speaker 6: Cola for seven point billion. And he was like, with
- 31:26Speaker 6: Body Armor, it took me ten years, but I like
- 31:29Speaker 6: three or four of those years. I was just all
- 31:30Speaker 6: over the place. He's like, now with this recover when
- 31:33Speaker 6: eighty because like I know what I'm doing. He's like,
- 31:35Speaker 6: we're gonna We're gonna hit it right away, Like ain't
- 31:37Speaker 6: no wasting time, gonna get to it.
- 31:39Speaker 5: So it's another opportunity for me to you know what
- 31:41Speaker 5: I mean?
- 31:41Speaker 1: So how do you know?
- 31:42Speaker 3: Like what could we interview Mike Vick and he was
- 31:44Speaker 3: talking about he put like six million dollars into a
- 31:47Speaker 3: real estate deal and long story short and went belly
- 31:49Speaker 3: up and he was like, looking back on he should
- 31:51Speaker 3: have put like half a million, like because that wouldn't
- 31:53Speaker 3: have hurt him as much as six millionaire at that time.
- 31:56Speaker 1: And then he went to jail.
- 31:57Speaker 6: I invest in the people who like Lance. If you
- 32:01Speaker 6: made Lance, he come in here, he gonna have the
- 32:04Speaker 6: bag rolling the bag with all his product in there,
- 32:07Speaker 6: like he gonna have a step on his fore head,
- 32:09Speaker 6: like he lives and breathes zenwater, and like he won't
- 32:13Speaker 6: have it to where. You gonna try this, and you
- 32:15Speaker 6: ain't gonna word until you tell him like feedback.
- 32:17Speaker 5: You know what I mean.
- 32:19Speaker 2: This episode is brought to you by P and C Bank.

- 34:09Speaker 9: An illegal alien from Guatemala charged with raping a child
- 34:13Speaker 9: in Massachusetts. An MS thirteen gang member from Al Salvador
- 34:17Speaker 9: accused of murdering a Texas man of Venezuelan charged with
- 34:21Speaker 9: filming and selling child pornography in Michigan. These are just
- 34:25Speaker 9: some of the heinous migrant criminals caught because of President
- 34:29Speaker 9: Donald J. Trump's leadership. I'm Christy Noman, the United States
- 34:32Speaker 9: Secretary of Homeland Security. Under President Trump, attempted illegal border
- 34:37Speaker 9: crossings are at the lowest levels ever recorded, and over
- 34:41Speaker 9: one hundred thousand illegal aliens have been arrested. If you
- 34:44Speaker 9: are here illegally, your next you will be fined nearly
- 34:48Speaker 9: one thousand dollars a day, imprisoned, and deported. You will
- 34:52Speaker 9: never return. But if you register using our CBP home
- 34:56Speaker 9: app and leave now, you could be allowed to return legally.
- 35:00Speaker 9: Do what's right. Leave now. Under President Trump, America's laws,
- 35:04Speaker 9: border and families.
- 35:06Speaker 2: Will be protected sponsored by the United States Department of
- 35:08Speaker 2: Homeland Security.
- 35:09Speaker 6: Like he's psychotic about his product, and so it's the person,
- 35:13Speaker 6: you know what I mean, more time than more times
- 35:16Speaker 6: than not. Yeah, everybody got ideas. Everybody feel like they
- 35:19Speaker 6: can be a millionaire or a millionaire overnight. Just a idea,
- 35:23Speaker 6: but it's like how you how you actually put it together?
- 35:26Speaker 6: Invest them with people to have proven track records, and
- 35:27Speaker 6: you got a track record.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Yeah, Nique trade.
- 35:30Speaker 7: I saw a Brone say something important the other day said,
- 35:32Speaker 7: as as I'm hearing you're talking about, you don't know
- 35:35Speaker 7: how much long you're gonna be playing? He said, If
- 35:37Speaker 7: all I'm ever remembered is as a basketball player, then
- 35:40Speaker 7: I failed at life. I'm listening to your business ventures
- 35:43Speaker 7: and here you're talking about maybe you know who knows
- 35:45Speaker 7: how long you got left? Does that go through your
- 35:48Speaker 7: mind as well?
- 35:49Speaker 5: Right?
- 35:50Speaker 7: My legacy, Yes, this chapter of my life is athletics.
- 35:53Speaker 7: The next chapter of my life has to be as great,
- 35:56Speaker 7: if not greater. We saw Koe was on that trajectory
- 35:59Speaker 7: right before ominic passion where it was now I'm getting
- 36:02Speaker 7: the oscars and the body on the deal. It was like, oh,
- 36:05Speaker 7: he's about to be out of here in business. Do
- 36:07Speaker 7: you see yourself in that same game?
- 36:08Speaker 5: A million percent? A million percent?
- 36:12Speaker 1: And basketball is giving me these opportunities.
- 36:14Speaker 6: So I got to make sure I'm on top of
- 36:15Speaker 6: that because you know, the higher I can keep going
- 36:19Speaker 6: until it's over. The more opportunities I know I'll be
- 36:22Speaker 6: able to get so and then I want to have
- 36:26Speaker 6: a Hall of Fame career after basketball as well. So
- 36:29Speaker 6: just the relationship, making sure the relationships isn't improper, I
- 36:32Speaker 6: mean in place to where once it's over, I'm like,
- 36:37Speaker 6: thank you, basketball, I appreciate you.
- 36:38Speaker 5: I love you so much.
- 36:39Speaker 6: Like it's time to get it on, you know what
- 36:42Speaker 6: I mean. And that's another thing where Kobe was. Kobe
- 36:46Speaker 6: was so happy with he like he wasn't trying to
- 36:49Speaker 6: like go back and play again. He was like, thank
- 36:51Speaker 6: you basketball, It's time to get the money off the court,
- 36:54Speaker 6: you know what I mean. That's how I kind of
- 36:55Speaker 6: want to be, like I want to be done. I
- 36:58Speaker 6: appreciate you, and let's figure this this this off the
- 37:01Speaker 6: court thing out of this business, this business mind set
- 37:03Speaker 6: out because it's gonna be ten times harder than you
- 37:07Speaker 6: know it was playing basketball.
- 37:09Speaker 5: But I think I'm be prepared for when it's on.
- 37:11Speaker 3: How do you like you said, like, keep the main thing,
- 37:13Speaker 3: the main thing pretty much right like basketball is allowing
- 37:16Speaker 3: you to have all these opportunities, so you still got
- 37:17Speaker 3: to maintain your basketball for at least for the moment,
- 37:20Speaker 3: but also when you're making so much money, you got
- 37:22Speaker 3: so much relationships you I could assume that.
- 37:27Speaker 1: The passion might not be the same, right, So how
- 37:29Speaker 1: do you keep off basketball?
- 37:31Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 37:34Speaker 1: No, just in general though not even maybe not for you.
- 37:36Speaker 1: I'm just saying this in general.
- 37:37Speaker 3: I'm sure that because there are players that now you've
- 37:39Speaker 3: seen players retire early, like they seem like they are
- 37:43Speaker 3: not as hungry.
- 37:44Speaker 1: I can't speak for them.
- 37:46Speaker 6: So for you, you still, I'm saying, for the most part,
- 37:52Speaker 6: how have you, know, like people's situation, how have you
- 37:55Speaker 6: been able to keep your hunger for twenty something years?
- 37:57Speaker 3: Because you played basketball even longer than you've been in
- 37:59Speaker 3: the league, So how you been able to stay hungry
- 38:01Speaker 3: for twenty five years playing basketball?
- 38:03Speaker 6: Through the grace of God? Like I haven't had like
- 38:05Speaker 6: a uh like surgery, you know what I mean? Like
- 38:11Speaker 6: heard like I've been heard like I've had a hamstring
- 38:15Speaker 6: pool And that was frustrated right there, because I love it.
- 38:18Speaker 6: Who I can only imagine somebody having a surgery and
- 38:21Speaker 6: multiple surgeries and like having to do rehab and get
- 38:25Speaker 6: back on the court. That's probably frustrat you. Like, man,
- 38:27Speaker 6: I'm done with this, like I don't want to do
- 38:28Speaker 6: this no more. I want to live life and be
- 38:30Speaker 6: with my kids, and you know, so it's that's probably
- 38:33Speaker 6: part of it.
- 38:34Speaker 5: Like but I don't know.
- 38:35Speaker 6: I can't speak for everybody. I just know for me,
- 38:38Speaker 6: I gotta, like, I gotta, I gotta finish this thing out.
- 38:41Speaker 1: Finish the stop. Was that mean winning championship?
- 38:43Speaker 6: Yeah, finish winning championship, finish it out so I can't
- 38:45Speaker 6: play no more and then and then move on, like
- 38:50Speaker 6: you know, you only get one of these yeah, these.
- 38:52Speaker 5: Things called life, So you gotta just you figured out yourself.
- 38:55Speaker 3: Did ever bother you when people because like sports critics,
- 38:58Speaker 3: they have questioned you a desire on a certain level,
- 39:01Speaker 3: like playoffs, Like does that bother you?
- 39:03Speaker 1: When when people have critiques on that.
- 39:06Speaker 5: Not one bit? Like they just that's their job and
- 39:11Speaker 5: like we not like of course, like I work my
- 39:13Speaker 5: butt off every day.
- 39:14Speaker 6: You know, I was in a gym today and I'm
- 39:16Speaker 6: in a gym in the morning, like and you know,
- 39:18Speaker 6: when I got good games, they praisy. When you have
- 39:20Speaker 6: bad games, they talk about you. That's their job, you
- 39:22Speaker 6: know what I mean. So I don't go out there
- 39:24Speaker 6: and expect or trying to miss the shots or trying
- 39:26Speaker 6: to turn the wall over, you know what I mean.
- 39:28Speaker 5: But when she's going good, it's, oh my god, he
- 39:30Speaker 5: looks like vintage, and it's like, man, I want to
- 39:32Speaker 5: hear it, like.
- 39:33Speaker 1: You know, you know what I mean. So it's like
- 39:35Speaker 1: they gonna say some regardless whether you win or you losing.
- 39:38Speaker 6: So I'd rather just be in my own little bubble
- 39:41Speaker 6: and just you know what I mean, keep my keep
- 39:43Speaker 6: my vibe how it is, because when my vibe.
- 39:46Speaker 5: Is how it is, that's the best version of me.
- 39:50Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 39:50Speaker 7: I'm thinking vintage, which is wild. I remember, obviously we
- 39:55Speaker 7: watched you your hope. I'm thinking like that. I remember
- 39:58Speaker 7: the five at the NBA League passed the first Yeah
- 40:00Speaker 7: you got at the Houston first game, forty, second game, forty.
- 40:03Speaker 6: I'm like, when yay, yay, yay, yay, Houston, we got
- 40:07Speaker 6: a problem, yah yay.
- 40:08Speaker 7: I want to talk about something that most people don't
- 40:10Speaker 7: associate with you, and I think they should. Obviously, I
- 40:13Speaker 7: know what you mean to California, what you mean to
- 40:16Speaker 7: La get teammate Russ mean to the city. He just
- 40:20Speaker 7: announced the partnership in his school expansion. The philanthropics, philanthropic
- 40:25Speaker 7: side of what you guys are doing, yep, Impact thirteen
- 40:28Speaker 7: your foundations. Talk about that work because when we're talking
- 40:31Speaker 7: about off the court, Yeah, in business this is something,
- 40:33Speaker 7: but that's going to help the portfolio. What you're doing
- 40:36Speaker 7: on the philanthropic side is going to help the community,
- 40:39Speaker 7: help the younger generation coming up. Talk about that because
- 40:44Speaker 7: I mean, if people are going to criticize on the court,
- 40:47Speaker 7: they should be praising that as well.
- 40:49Speaker 5: Facts they don't they don't really die, man. I don't
- 40:52Speaker 5: feel like they really care about it.
- 40:55Speaker 6: Like their job is to just say the negativity and
- 40:57Speaker 6: then just going about their day. But like real people
- 41:00Speaker 6: and we live real lives and we do real things.
- 41:03Speaker 6: Uh So for me, it's just like I got the
- 41:04Speaker 6: heart of the giant and just want to help people.
- 41:09Speaker 6: Like I'm from the hood for real, you know what
- 41:11Speaker 6: I mean. So just seeing that being back at home
- 41:14Speaker 6: and then being in Houston and being in that you know,
- 41:18Speaker 6: in that in that community for as long as I
- 41:20Speaker 6: was and still am, It's like I've seen so many
- 41:23Speaker 6: things I needed to be done, it still needs to
- 41:24Speaker 6: be done. And then you got yearly a year after
- 41:27Speaker 6: year after year, Hurricane come so people houses getting tarnished,
- 41:33Speaker 6: and people just you know, don't have no food, no lights,
- 41:36Speaker 6: no nothing, you know what I mean. So it's just
- 41:38Speaker 6: it's a constant battle that I'm continuing and still will
- 41:41Speaker 6: continue to fight. But just helping kids get to school,
- 41:44Speaker 6: refurbishing courts.
- 41:45Speaker 5: Just like a lot.
- 41:46Speaker 6: It's like a lot of things that we do that
- 41:49Speaker 6: it don't have to be broadcasted and you know and
- 41:53Speaker 6: put on ESPN or you know, seeing then, but it
- 41:57Speaker 6: makes me feel good. It makes me feel how it
- 41:58Speaker 6: was supposed to because I know I'm doing my job
- 42:00Speaker 6: and I got a whole team that we created and
- 42:02Speaker 6: that that that goes out there every single day and
- 42:05Speaker 6: find ways to impact the world and the cities that
- 42:08Speaker 6: we are in. And then obviously, you know, as we
- 42:10Speaker 6: get bigger, we'll have a bigger stage, a bigger platform.
- 42:13Speaker 6: But that makes me happy, like that feels my my my,
- 42:17Speaker 6: my my heart a little bit, you know what I mean,
- 42:20Speaker 6: giving people and seeing people that that's that isn't as
- 42:23Speaker 6: fortunate or isn't able to do things that not even
- 42:26Speaker 6: I'm doing, but just living, you know what I mean,
- 42:29Speaker 6: Like just driving driving down and Long Beach yesterday and
- 42:33Speaker 6: just driving in the hood and driving through Compton and
- 42:35Speaker 6: I'm seeing housing and people just I'm like, I got
- 42:38Speaker 6: to find a way to help people still, you know
- 42:40Speaker 6: what I mean, Like you just don't.
- 42:42Speaker 1: It's it's it's that side.
- 42:44Speaker 6: But it's like, all right, you get lost a little
- 42:46Speaker 6: bit because you're in a big house and you know
- 42:49Speaker 6: Rose Royce and you don't really get an opportunity to
- 42:52Speaker 6: go to that side of town. You in Beverly Hills,
- 42:54Speaker 6: you know what I mean, you see Louie and Gucci
- 42:57Speaker 6: and just at the stories.
- 42:59Speaker 5: Then you just driving in the Hoo Arena in Englewood, man,
- 43:03Speaker 5: what you know what I mean?
- 43:04Speaker 6: So just every single day it's something to were like,
- 43:06Speaker 6: all right, cool, I gotta I gotta make sure that
- 43:08Speaker 6: I'm staying on that that Philthopic side because that's that's
- 43:12Speaker 6: important to me.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Well on the giveback side.
- 43:14Speaker 3: It's a cool story because we have a big conference
- 43:16Speaker 3: that we do in Atlanta and this year we did
- 43:18Speaker 3: a pitch competition in the name of Nipsey Hustle and
- 43:21Speaker 3: we had his brother Sam.
- 43:23Speaker 1: Yeah, we had the whole team and b h was there.
- 43:27Speaker 3: So long story short, one of the people that was
- 43:30Speaker 3: on the pitch competition that was presenting was his school
- 43:33Speaker 3: principal in Jersey and he had like a new age
- 43:37Speaker 3: type of school program that he put together. It was
- 43:39Speaker 3: really dope, and he said, we long story show. He
- 43:41Speaker 3: said that you were one of the people that actually
- 43:42Speaker 3: gave money to the school, like one hundred thousand dollars
- 43:44Speaker 3: something like that.
- 43:45Speaker 1: So that was dope.
- 43:48Speaker 3: And like I said, that's something that probably people are
- 43:51Speaker 3: not aware of, right, but yeah, that was just a
- 43:54Speaker 3: random He was on stage.
- 43:55Speaker 1: He was like, yeah, James Harden is one of the
- 43:56Speaker 1: people that invested in So that was a dope, Like
- 43:59Speaker 1: to be sick.
- 44:00Speaker 6: That's what we're doing that, that's that's the kind of
- 44:02Speaker 6: energy we're given. Like you don't got to be broadcasting.
- 44:04Speaker 6: We're just doing it and it's gonna it's gonna help
- 44:07Speaker 6: the people, and it's gonna actually do the job, not
- 44:10Speaker 6: just broadcasting and saying it making it an Instagram post
- 44:13Speaker 6: and then nothing happens.
- 44:14Speaker 5: I don't even care about the Instagram post.
- 44:16Speaker 6: We just gonna make sure the job is getting done
- 44:17Speaker 6: and people are are, you know, happy and doing what
- 44:20Speaker 6: they're supposed to be doing, you know. So that's that's
- 44:23Speaker 6: kind of our background and kind of what we're doing
- 44:25Speaker 6: and like we said, we we we're a small team,
- 44:28Speaker 6: but not really, but be gonna in a couple of years.
- 44:31Speaker 5: They're gonna be making them. They're gonna be seeing this.
- 44:33Speaker 7: When you just just mentioned that the new driving through
- 44:36Speaker 7: Inglewood to get to the stadium, it just hit me
- 44:38Speaker 7: for the first time.
- 44:40Speaker 1: Is that like surreal for you? Man? Yes, No, it's impossible.
- 44:44Speaker 5: Life is.
- 44:46Speaker 1: That's a lake of land really and that used to
- 44:49Speaker 1: be used to be and now that's in yours.
- 44:54Speaker 6: I don't know, listen, bro, that was what just say,
- 44:58Speaker 6: twenty years ago. The next two years something else might be.
- 45:02Speaker 6: I feel like it is impossible.
- 45:03Speaker 5: Like at this point, I don't know, three four years
- 45:06Speaker 5: is gonna be flying cars? Like you know what I mean?
- 45:08Speaker 5: So like I don't I don't know what to think
- 45:10Speaker 5: no more, you know what I mean.
- 45:11Speaker 6: If I never envisioned or imagine that into it, don't
- 45:15Speaker 6: we being Inglewood, you know what I mean? From LA
- 45:18Speaker 6: Like the Forum was always the Inglewood Arena, you know
- 45:20Speaker 6: what I mean, It's the only place. And then you
- 45:23Speaker 6: have obviously had Stables Center now Crypto, So you know,
- 45:26Speaker 6: I don't know, man, I'm just I'm just here. I'm
- 45:29Speaker 6: just here on earth, just watching like I don't know
- 45:32Speaker 6: what's going to resident man, just I'm just here.
- 45:35Speaker 5: I'm just one of one of millions of people that's young.
- 45:39Speaker 3: So branding obviously the bed was that dune intention like that,
- 45:45Speaker 3: you know, like that's kind of become like a signature,
- 45:48Speaker 3: trademark actually helps you stand out thinking in the in
- 45:51Speaker 3: the league, like did that intentionally or else?
- 45:53Speaker 6: Just something just randomly, just just a young boy that
- 45:56Speaker 6: just I'm happy to get facial oh was young wood
- 46:04Speaker 6: is happy to get facial hair and just you know,
- 46:06Speaker 6: it was kind of a thing then I was young.
- 46:08Speaker 6: I was twenty twenty one. So having a beer you
- 46:11Speaker 6: feel like you're older, like you're a grown man, you
- 46:13Speaker 6: know what I mean, Start getting more more vibes, you
- 46:17Speaker 6: know what i mean, start getting more attention, the Cheetos
- 46:20Speaker 6: on me a little bit more, you know.
- 46:23Speaker 1: So after that, never looked back, never looked back. After that.
- 46:31Speaker 1: It was over it, right, there was that little confidence.
- 46:34Speaker 5: You know what I mean.
- 46:34Speaker 1: You can't cut it down. So it's possibly it's nice.
- 46:38Speaker 5: Once maybe after I retire, I might go grown man,
- 46:41Speaker 5: just some.
- 46:42Speaker 1: Slim so like you see you see that. Yeah it
- 46:48Speaker 1: was yeah, yeah, that was a real I saw.
- 46:51Speaker 5: Him like you, but he did that.
- 46:53Speaker 1: They say that like a state farming Jared Stay Cooper.
- 46:59Speaker 7: You brought up the team and so obviously you have
- 47:02Speaker 7: to have a strong team around you. How has that
- 47:05Speaker 7: team evolved since you started? I'm sure it. Maybe people
- 47:08Speaker 7: have come and gone, You've got to replace people, or
- 47:11Speaker 7: has it been a consistent thing like these are my
- 47:13Speaker 7: day once they come up with me along the journey,
- 47:15Speaker 7: I'm gonna teach some skills and I'm gonna make them,
- 47:18Speaker 7: hopefully have them become their own business professionals in their
- 47:22Speaker 7: own right.
- 47:22Speaker 1: Or was it at you talking about homies or what
- 47:24Speaker 1: you talking about?
- 47:25Speaker 6: I'm just in general, like, who is your team and
- 47:27Speaker 6: has it? Has it changed and evolved throughout your career?
- 47:30Speaker 6: Team has definitely changed? You know along the way everybody
- 47:35Speaker 6: can't make it.
- 47:37Speaker 5: You know what I mean? Everybody can't make it.
- 47:38Speaker 6: As a fact, as you get older, you grow you
- 47:42Speaker 6: you started to like be more mature about what you
- 47:45Speaker 6: like and confident in what you like and what you
- 47:47Speaker 6: need around you. And it's like people that was with
- 47:49Speaker 6: me when I was in middle school that I thought
- 47:51Speaker 6: it was gonna be with me forever. I ain't here
- 47:53Speaker 6: no more, you know what I mean. And it's cool,
- 47:56Speaker 6: like I wish all the best. I'm gonna go my way,
- 47:58Speaker 6: y'all go your way. And you hear stories like that,
- 48:02Speaker 6: you know, whether it's you know, when I first got
- 48:04Speaker 6: in the league, like we're such and such a where
- 48:06Speaker 6: and it's like now it's actually happened to me, you
- 48:09Speaker 6: know what I mean?
- 48:09Speaker 5: So uh, no bad blood, it is what it is.
- 48:12Speaker 5: And every I feel like everybody goes through that, you
- 48:15Speaker 5: know what I mean.
- 48:15Speaker 6: Everybody got their day ones when they get drafted and
- 48:18Speaker 6: popping bottles and all that, and then four years, five
- 48:20Speaker 6: years later or whenever that happens, they're not there no more.
- 48:23Speaker 6: And you know, for some it's worse than others. For mine,
- 48:26Speaker 6: it wasn't, you know what I mean. It's just you know,
- 48:28Speaker 6: we grow apart. So I think the team that I
- 48:31Speaker 6: that I have now is is efficient and uh and
- 48:34Speaker 6: got a purpose. And that's that's very important because that's
- 48:38Speaker 6: how that's how I like, I played by it like
- 48:40Speaker 6: on and off the court. So you know, you got
- 48:44Speaker 6: you got your your your foundation. Polaro does a really
- 48:47Speaker 6: good job. You know, you got people that you know,
- 48:50Speaker 6: the didas people Alan who who's like my Adidas manager.
- 48:58Speaker 5: And then there's a lot of other people in my campus.
- 49:00Speaker 6: Well, but just people that you know, everybody's got a role,
- 49:04Speaker 6: got a position in the job to play, and you know,
- 49:06Speaker 6: if you're not doing your job, then you will get
- 49:08Speaker 6: on the bench or you will get cut.
- 49:11Speaker 3: Did you see what Jayo Smith said a while ago
- 49:13Speaker 3: about players not working together?
- 49:15Speaker 5: Noice?
- 49:16Speaker 3: So he was talking about how in la he was like,
- 49:18Speaker 3: you know, everybody, they always go to UCLA gym to
- 49:20Speaker 3: work out stuff like that. He was like he just
- 49:22Speaker 3: had an epiphany and he was like this, so many
- 49:24Speaker 3: players that make it from California.
- 49:26Speaker 1: He was like, why they don't have their own gym.
- 49:27Speaker 1: Then it was led to a whole conversation.
- 49:29Speaker 6: Got this there, Yeah, it led to the whole conversation
- 49:31Speaker 6: of like, yo, while we're not working together, while we
- 49:33Speaker 6: don't pull our money together more and do things.
- 49:36Speaker 1: That was his take. That was his opinion.
- 49:38Speaker 5: Where did they come from, though, Like what was the
- 49:41Speaker 5: backstory on that?
- 49:42Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 49:42Speaker 3: I'm not sure what the question that prompted that was,
- 49:45Speaker 3: but that was the thing he was just saying, like
- 49:47Speaker 3: how he thought a lot of guys in the leagues
- 49:49Speaker 3: were selfish pretty much, and he was talking about his
- 49:51Speaker 3: own personal experience and he was just like y'all was
- 49:53Speaker 3: going to club, I was popping bottles, and that shit
- 49:55Speaker 3: wasn't really about and looking back on it, I wish
- 49:57Speaker 3: I would have did things definitely, And then he started
- 49:59Speaker 3: going into a whole thing like we're trying to stunt
- 50:01Speaker 3: on each other instead of working with each other. Like
- 50:04Speaker 3: we're all trying to do individual things instead of trying
- 50:06Speaker 3: to do things together. So what's your thoughts on that? Well,
- 50:12Speaker 3: for now, it's over with.
- 50:13Speaker 5: For that, people making way too much money to be
- 50:16Speaker 5: even trying to come together for like, man.
- 50:19Speaker 1: Like you can still work together as a billionaire, even
- 50:23Speaker 1: billionaires work together a.
- 50:24Speaker 6: Million percent, but that's they're billionaires for a reason, and
- 50:28Speaker 6: they more they're much more mature and like they are
- 50:31Speaker 6: saying this now as he's I don't know how, but
- 50:33Speaker 6: he's he's a little older. When you're younger, you're not
- 50:36Speaker 6: thinking about coming together and you know, creating something special
- 50:40Speaker 6: or working together or you know what I mean, doing
- 50:42Speaker 6: it Like people got their own People still trying to
- 50:44Speaker 6: be established in their career, so they're not trying to
- 50:48Speaker 6: team up and join up with somebody at a young
- 50:51Speaker 6: age like that's the last thing on their mind. You
- 50:53Speaker 6: could say that now when you're a little older and
- 50:55Speaker 6: you kind of retired, and you're not even retired, but
- 50:57Speaker 6: you're a little older and you.
- 50:58Speaker 5: Kind of you're seeing it. But man, you young, you
- 51:02Speaker 5: having fun with it. You getting money, you know, you.
- 51:05Speaker 1: You experience in life.
- 51:06Speaker 5: You're getting real money now. So I mean, it's a good.
- 51:09Speaker 7: Thought that's over there, because as you're saying it, I'm
- 51:12Speaker 7: thinking about that's off the court, but on the court,
- 51:14Speaker 7: I'm thinking about that sounds like, okay, see when they
- 51:17Speaker 7: have you Kevin, Russ, Serge and Russ young guys, if
- 51:23Speaker 7: we stayed together, this league is ours.
- 51:25Speaker 5: It was only like it was only for like four
- 51:27Speaker 5: million dollars.
- 51:28Speaker 7: To this is when I'm understand that it was only
- 51:31Speaker 7: four They want you wanted something and they gave it
- 51:34Speaker 7: to search exactly which it was playing four million dollars.
- 51:39Speaker 1: But if we stay together, how good? How good could
- 51:41Speaker 1: that team have? You take over the league?
- 51:43Speaker 5: My my rookie year, it was ac We played the Lakers,
- 51:49Speaker 5: that was the number one seed.
- 51:51Speaker 1: Scared them, scared them for sure, scared them.
- 51:54Speaker 5: We had okay, see cracking they wanted the championship.
- 51:57Speaker 1: Lakers.
- 51:58Speaker 6: My second year winn in Western Congresce finals against Dallas.
- 52:03Speaker 6: They won a championship. My third year we in the
- 52:06Speaker 6: finals against the Heat. That was bron first championship. They
- 52:09Speaker 6: win a championship. That summer, we go to the Olympics.
- 52:12Speaker 6: We win the gold medal. My fourth year is on.
- 52:16Speaker 5: Summertime, traded like right, like a cover day, like a
- 52:19Speaker 5: couple of days for the first game is to.
- 52:22Speaker 3: All, So, how good do you think that team in
- 52:24Speaker 3: the history of Hypothetically y'all would have stayed together chips
- 52:28Speaker 3: at least at the middum, at least two chips, you.
- 52:30Speaker 1: Think you would have you would have developed into the
- 52:32Speaker 1: player that you are.
- 52:33Speaker 5: Probably not mhm.
- 52:37Speaker 1: It's hard to say because it was like I was
- 52:39Speaker 1: always because you was a sixth man.
- 52:41Speaker 6: Yeah, but I was going to have it eventually start
- 52:43Speaker 6: starting because it was like you know, it was it
- 52:45Speaker 6: was cracking, like the sacrifice of the team, and it
- 52:49Speaker 6: made us as a team, it made us better. But
- 52:52Speaker 6: I was going to have to eventually start starting, like
- 52:53Speaker 6: my swag was getting there to my fourth year, I'm
- 52:56Speaker 6: not to noum like I'm not six already got that,
- 53:00Speaker 6: but he was over four million dollars. But it was
- 53:03Speaker 6: a blessing though, because coming off the finals, which I
- 53:08Speaker 6: didn't play well, you know what I mean, and then Olympics,
- 53:11Speaker 6: opportunity to be around all these vets.
- 53:15Speaker 5: I go with my first in Houston go yeah.
- 53:16Speaker 1: Yeah, you were crazy. I remember.
- 53:19Speaker 7: I think there's a moment where KD is talking you
- 53:21Speaker 7: and President and they're like, we'll be back, yep. Rust
- 53:26Speaker 7: hasn't made it back. You haven't made it back yet,
- 53:29Speaker 7: ye thinking about that four million dollars. Obviously, your your
- 53:33Speaker 7: career has been incredible. Hall of Fame regardless, does the
- 53:39Speaker 7: championship not being part of the resume, does it weigh
- 53:42Speaker 7: on you a little bit at all?
- 53:44Speaker 5: Like I'm still gonna try to get away rights I
- 53:46Speaker 5: will go, yeah, but like what I'm gonna do?
- 53:50Speaker 6: Yeah, Like I had opportunities and it just didn't work out,
- 53:55Speaker 6: whether it's you know, the injuries or like the first
- 53:58Speaker 6: couple of years in Houston are we just wasn't good enough,
- 54:02Speaker 6: you know what I mean, Like we was making the playoffs,
- 54:04Speaker 6: barely making the playoffs. Then we had two three years
- 54:06Speaker 6: when we had a chance. You know, CP gets hurt.
- 54:09Speaker 6: But then again I'm going against a real dynasty, like
- 54:13Speaker 6: the words then they act Kevin Durant and like up
- 54:15Speaker 6: in that series three two, you know what I mean.
- 54:17Speaker 6: I'm going to get a real dynasty head up, you
- 54:20Speaker 6: know what I mean. And then it's all right, cool, Well,
- 54:24Speaker 6: maybe let me just try to you know, put my
- 54:26Speaker 6: pride to well not even pride. Let me just try
- 54:28Speaker 6: to sacrifice the money, the individual act all that. Let
- 54:33Speaker 6: me just try to sacrifice and switch it up a
- 54:36Speaker 6: little bit and hopefully that work in my favorite and.
- 54:39Speaker 5: It's just trying to you know, win the championship. So
- 54:41Speaker 5: that's when the Brooklyn situation happened. That was tricky.
- 54:44Speaker 6: We had an opportunity, and then the Philly situation to
- 54:48Speaker 6: where it's like the same thing.
- 54:49Speaker 5: Let me just be a playmaker, switch up my role.
- 54:52Speaker 1: That shit worked, like.
- 54:54Speaker 6: You feel me, Like, I sacrifice money, I sacrifice being
- 54:58Speaker 6: the top score that I am. I still am and
- 55:02Speaker 6: will be. Just as long story short, is for nothing,
- 55:08Speaker 6: you know what I mean. I lost a lot of
- 55:09Speaker 6: money and I lost a lot of swaggering on the
- 55:13Speaker 6: court just from sacrificing thinking that all that's gonna give
- 55:18Speaker 6: me to win a championships. That's what No, if I
- 55:24Speaker 6: win one, I win one, which I'm gonna try. I
- 55:26Speaker 6: work my butt off every day to win one, but
- 55:29Speaker 6: that's not gonna like. You know, I know how good
- 55:31Speaker 6: I am, and I know how how much I'm a
- 55:33Speaker 6: leader I am.
- 55:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I got plenty of arguments about how good you are.
- 55:36Speaker 3: Well, speaking of that top plenty, you know you're a
- 55:39Speaker 3: unique player because your size people don't usually have. You
- 55:43Speaker 3: have a very tricky handle. Fact, so I got you
- 55:46Speaker 3: as one of the top five ball handlers of all
- 55:49Speaker 3: time during my top five How do you how do
- 55:53Speaker 3: you rate yourself as far as like top ball handlers
- 55:57Speaker 3: and what's who's your top five ball handlers of all time?
- 56:00Speaker 6: Yeah, you're going to see you're trying to stir up something.
- 56:05Speaker 6: You're trying to stir up something because it's like him,
- 56:08Speaker 6: like obviously like Kai Kyrie, I don't he's that's like
- 56:14Speaker 6: saying shooting like Steph like that other than Steph handle
- 56:18Speaker 6: is crazy.
- 56:19Speaker 1: It's tricky. So he's tricky, but it's crazy because he's
- 56:24Speaker 1: still got to shoot the ball.
- 56:26Speaker 6: Like we talked about crossover all that to pass, but
- 56:29Speaker 6: we're talking about and actually getting the.
- 56:31Speaker 5: Ball up in your your shot form and shooting the ball,
- 56:33Speaker 5: you know what I mean.
- 56:33Speaker 1: So that's like elite right there.
- 56:38Speaker 3: I'm Crawford jam he's up Isaiah Thomas. Okay, all right,
- 56:48Speaker 3: I don't know is that in that conversation?
- 56:52Speaker 1: No, I know what I'm like, what just handles, got handles,
- 56:57Speaker 1: But he's not not in that conversation.
- 56:58Speaker 6: He's not a yo yo. He don't have what you're
- 57:00Speaker 6: gonna say, you not like you not. He has a move,
- 57:04Speaker 6: but he got a move, but he talking about nothing
- 57:09Speaker 6: like Game Killer though of course we know that. But yeah,
- 57:14Speaker 6: it ain't really like you got you have real handles,
- 57:18Speaker 6: like Cark. Never seen nothing like that before my life.
- 57:21Speaker 6: We probably would never seen nothing like that before. And
- 57:23Speaker 6: it's effortless. I don't think he's not even thinking.
- 57:26Speaker 1: It's just he just he just you.
- 57:29Speaker 5: You just in a way.
- 57:30Speaker 1: Yeah, you just.
- 57:33Speaker 7: As your time to be in his way. My argument
- 57:36Speaker 7: and I never get despite a three hour argument. I
- 57:39Speaker 7: was saying that you are one of the most efficient
- 57:42Speaker 7: scores of all time because you can do at multiple
- 57:45Speaker 7: levels mid range three and three, right and under, and
- 57:53Speaker 7: there's not many two guards, any guards that can do that.
- 57:57Speaker 7: So I started thinking about placements in the history two guards. Right,
- 58:01Speaker 7: this is like one of those conversations outside of Mike,
- 58:05Speaker 7: what do you see in Soviet and Kobe? Where are
- 58:08Speaker 7: you at in this conversation.
- 58:11Speaker 5: You're talking about like you're talking about just accolades.
- 58:14Speaker 1: I'm just talking about gang Gang. Was it Dwayne Wade?
- 58:19Speaker 1: The Wade that would be in the conversation?
- 58:22Speaker 6: But Game, I got game, I got game. It's right
- 58:26Speaker 6: after the way I got game the way more athletic
- 58:30Speaker 6: than me, for sure. Yeah, the way had game of course,
- 58:35Speaker 6: you know, but like he uses athleticism and whatever, I
- 58:39Speaker 6: got gag.
- 58:39Speaker 5: I just I don't know.
- 58:40Speaker 6: So, but you them three I respect the most of
- 58:43Speaker 6: like them three is like Kobe the way, Yeah for sure,
- 58:46Speaker 6: Like I'm not mad at that. I was arguing that, Yeah,
- 58:49Speaker 6: of course.
- 58:50Speaker 3: How do you feel about the state of basketball because
- 58:51Speaker 3: a lot of people feel like the Europeans is starting
- 58:56Speaker 3: to really take over because their system for the youth
- 59:00Speaker 3: is based around fundamental skill work as opposed to the
- 59:04Speaker 3: AAU circuit and playing one hundred games in the summer time.
- 59:08Speaker 1: What's your thoughts always.
- 59:09Speaker 6: Been like that though, Like European players, not like have
- 59:13Speaker 6: mastered the fundamentals of basketball, and that's why a lot
- 59:16Speaker 6: of them are successful and then now you're looking at
- 59:20Speaker 6: a lot more being successful in being very very very
- 59:23Speaker 6: very good in the NBA, and I mean the way
- 59:27Speaker 6: basketball and the players who are always gonna be more
- 59:30Speaker 6: athletic and you know what I mean, but they gonna
- 59:32Speaker 6: have fundamentals, you know what I mean.
- 59:34Speaker 5: It's always been like that. It's always going to continue
- 59:36Speaker 5: to be like that.
- 59:38Speaker 6: You know, That's why the game is expanded at getting
- 59:40Speaker 6: so much bigger because you got guys from you know,
- 59:43Speaker 6: Serbia and and you know in Greece and in France
- 59:47Speaker 6: and just all over there.
- 59:49Speaker 5: So it's always gonna be like that.
- 59:51Speaker 6: And I mean at this point, it's just however you
- 59:54Speaker 6: can fit in the league, and however you can can
- 59:57Speaker 6: figure your game out and figure it out like whether
- 1:00:00Speaker 6: the usual athleticism where you're learn to shoot but your playmaker,
- 1:00:04Speaker 6: whatever your game is.
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: Just But do you think American basketball needs to change?
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: Is on the ground, but it's never gonna Why would
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: change it's been.
- 1:00:12Speaker 6: I mean, obviously coaches in America need to put emphasis
- 1:00:16Speaker 6: on fundamentals because fundamentals is gonna get you, you know,
- 1:00:19Speaker 6: further than just playing sporadic basketball.
- 1:00:22Speaker 5: But I mean.
- 1:00:25Speaker 6: Now like it's so much money being involved in it's
- 1:00:27Speaker 6: now they're getting so much money from these coaches and
- 1:00:30Speaker 6: players at a young age.
- 1:00:32Speaker 5: That's what's scary about it. They're not they don't care
- 1:00:34Speaker 5: about fundamentals. They see that money coming in.
- 1:00:36Speaker 6: And you got a kid who can jump out the
- 1:00:38Speaker 6: gym and can shoot from half court, and they're gonna
- 1:00:40Speaker 6: milk the kid all the way into he's done.
- 1:00:43Speaker 5: But then they're gonna find another kid if they can't,
- 1:00:46Speaker 5: you know what I mean.
- 1:00:46Speaker 6: So it's about the real coaches that's really teaching fundamentals
- 1:00:50Speaker 6: of basketball in a real game to help kids develop
- 1:00:53Speaker 6: and and hopefully you know, make some money at the
- 1:00:56Speaker 6: at the end of their career or you know, for
- 1:00:58Speaker 6: a long time in their career.
- 1:00:59Speaker 7: When you watch the game now, I wanted, do you
- 1:01:01Speaker 7: see your impact when I, like example, when I watched Luca,
- 1:01:05Speaker 7: I'm looking.
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: Like that's that's the don't want to talk about it.
- 1:01:09Speaker 6: I don't think that step back that they want to start.
- 1:01:13Speaker 6: When I kept doing that, they was like, he's traveling,
- 1:01:16Speaker 6: Like he's traveling like you hear coaches, you hear like,
- 1:01:20Speaker 6: but I'm like, you're tripping Like I watched film indeed,
- 1:01:23Speaker 6: I got officials like really creating.
- 1:01:27Speaker 5: Don't get me wrong.
- 1:01:27Speaker 6: The step back has always been that move, bro, No,
- 1:01:31Speaker 6: I'm not the double step, the double stats whatever that
- 1:01:35Speaker 6: we never seen it before.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: That's yours. Double step back has always been in here.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: The double step. What you did from here to wait
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: over there?
- 1:01:42Speaker 6: You left somebody over there over anyways, Wesley Johnson still
- 1:01:45Speaker 6: over there, don't do that's my name.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: Here's my coach.
- 1:01:48Speaker 5: Last year.
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: I feel bad, man. That was every day you look
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: at them. That's my man. That's over there. You started
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: stuff anyways.
- 1:01:58Speaker 6: But like now, like you're favorite player, favorite player is
- 1:02:02Speaker 6: doing the double step whatever, the double step back.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. That's a real thing. How would
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: you be, kids, Like, how do you feel watching it?
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: I mean, you feel good?
- 1:02:11Speaker 5: Kids?
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: It's crazy, Like that's saying kids like eight years ago
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: that it's crazy. They're teaching that. That's all right, that's impact.
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: That's like tight to be you know what I mean.
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: That's like the feeling you know what I mean up
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: and under two like they get all that fat.
- 1:02:33Speaker 6: Yeah, the foul thing that that became a move too,
- 1:02:36Speaker 6: that became a thing that was doing that before me
- 1:02:37Speaker 6: but I just and they change the.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: Rules because I had.
- 1:02:43Speaker 6: You gotta figure it out, bro, you gotta figure a
- 1:02:46Speaker 6: way to still be really good at basketball.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: Eleven points a game off the free throw.
- 1:02:51Speaker 6: Stop me, don't complain about that's cheating. Stop following me.
- 1:02:56Speaker 6: Put your hands back.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: Right, be ready to play before we learn who right now,
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: before we leave.
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: It is one question in the actual in the business
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: se Houston Dynamo, What's what's what's what's your involvement?
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: What is what is that?
- 1:03:09Speaker 6: Uh So it's an MLS team, the Houston Dynamo and
- 1:03:11Speaker 6: the Houston Dash. MLS soccer, which is soccer is becoming
- 1:03:19Speaker 6: bigger and bigger in America. I think the World Cup
- 1:03:23Speaker 6: is coming to l A in a couple of years.
- 1:03:27Speaker 6: But yeah, it was an opportunity. You know, I'm I
- 1:03:29Speaker 6: still live in Houston by the way, also, but there
- 1:03:32Speaker 6: was an opportunity where, you know, in a partnership and investment,
- 1:03:37Speaker 6: you know, was was presented and I took advantage of it.
- 1:03:40Speaker 6: And you know, it's doing really really well and you know,
- 1:03:45Speaker 6: we we got a really good team. But I think
- 1:03:47Speaker 6: the MLS league itself is growing, you know.
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: What I mean?
- 1:03:50Speaker 6: And obviously you see MESSI coming over here. So like
- 1:03:53Speaker 6: the more, the more big names players that we can
- 1:03:56Speaker 6: get from Europe, because obviously Europe is since it is
- 1:04:01Speaker 6: still the league.
- 1:04:03Speaker 5: Yeah, but we got to lead this growing.
- 1:04:05Speaker 6: Like the development, like we talked about for basketball, the
- 1:04:08Speaker 6: development that they have for MLS is really really you
- 1:04:10Speaker 6: know cool too. You got your little kids, that's you know,
- 1:04:14Speaker 6: training and it's it's a beautiful it's a beautiful thing.
- 1:04:16Speaker 6: So hopefully, you know, in the next five, six, seven years,
- 1:04:19Speaker 6: we'll see you know, MLS you know, be bigger and
- 1:04:23Speaker 6: they'll be getting some you know, ESPN games and things
- 1:04:26Speaker 6: like that too.
- 1:04:26Speaker 7: So evaluation is going up on definitely on the MLS teams.
- 1:04:30Speaker 7: My last thing is this obviously still play a major
- 1:04:34Speaker 7: role in Houston. You're talking about expansion and sports w
- 1:04:37Speaker 7: n B A coming back, and so.
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: I was wondering why they get ready to comments.
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: There's a there's a group getting together now trying to
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: break They didn't text intend about the Houston team now
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: they said something, No, yeah it's Seattle.
- 1:04:49Speaker 7: Yeah yeah, they want that group wants to get together.
- 1:04:52Speaker 7: Oh would you be interested in getting involved in that?
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: Yeah? Okay, Like.
- 1:05:00Speaker 6: Basketball is basketball, W and B a basketball has been good.
- 1:05:04Speaker 6: These last couple of years has been turned crazy. This
- 1:05:07Speaker 6: year has been cracking. I went to a game like
- 1:05:09Speaker 6: a week or two ago in Arizona, the Connecticut Sons.
- 1:05:14Speaker 6: You know, it was played the Mercury, and it was
- 1:05:16Speaker 6: packed in there, like it was cracking. I got to
- 1:05:20Speaker 6: come to some word W big games. But yeah, just
- 1:05:24Speaker 6: W VEGA is growing. They gonna get a lot more money,
- 1:05:28Speaker 6: you know. So I'm just like, sports is life, you
- 1:05:31Speaker 6: know what I mean, Like it makes people happy. People
- 1:05:33Speaker 6: will be tuned in in sports, and that's that's like
- 1:05:36Speaker 6: one of the best feelings. So of course I would
- 1:05:38Speaker 6: want to be a part of anything that make people happy.
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: Oh Jeans Brothers was fun. Man, appreciate your song. And yeah, man,
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: we'll be trying to be low key and I'll be
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: staying out the way. People really don't really you know,
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: understand your know me whatever. So I appreciate you all for, like,
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: you know, having this conversation with me.
- 1:05:59Speaker 6: I don't really I'm gonna go back in my little
- 1:06:01Speaker 6: show and I don't like to just over talk or
- 1:06:06Speaker 6: talk about that's not important.
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:06:09Speaker 5: Appreciate you all for having some substance and uh, Paul's
- 1:06:13Speaker 5: opened me up, Lou.
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: I appreciate you closing that for sure. To your team,
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: Plazia team for working with us. Shot to camshot, you
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: wife for putting this together. Like I said, it was
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: a long time coming. So I'm glad we got.
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: To do it. My brother, thank you, thank you. So
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: we'll see you angle it, yeah, for sure.
