Kure Beach is scaling back lifeguard coverage as summer winds down — expect empty towers marked with black flags, patrols focused on busiest spots, and four-wheel-drive vehicles on the sand. Stay safe in the water: green rescue buoys are now at all 25 public access points to help you float and make rescues faster. After Labor Day, only two lifeguards will patrol daily from noon to 8 PM through September — possibly into October if weather and ocean conditions demand it.
