- 0:26Speaker 6: Kilowatts of power.
- 0:52Speaker 1: I love it.
- 0:58Speaker 7: I'm almost at the final checking point, except I have
- 1:01Speaker 7: to deal with those zombies.
- 1:02Speaker 1: They keep biting my neck.
- 1:08Speaker 6: Way down among Brazilians, coffee beans drove by the billions.
- 1:12Speaker 8: So they've got to find those extra cups to fill.
- 1:17Speaker 9: They got an awful lot of coffee in Brazil.
- 1:22Speaker 2: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian. I'm Ben.
- 1:26Speaker 2: I'm Fred.
- 1:27Speaker 10: I'm Lucy.
- 1:28Speaker 2: I'm Greg. So we are back for another edition of
- 1:31Speaker 2: the Caffeinated Movie Geek.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Cappuccino my butt.
- 1:33Speaker 6: I still drink coffee.
- 1:36Speaker 10: The last fucking thing you need is another cup of coffee.
- 1:39Speaker 11: It's time for the Caffeinated Movie Geek.
- 1:42Speaker 2: We are coming to you live via digital recording from
- 1:44Speaker 2: Nancy's Bagel Grounds, where we will get together, drink coffee,
- 1:47Speaker 2: and endlessly talk about movies. So, Lucy, I ask you,
- 1:51Speaker 2: what blend of coffee are we drinking this week?
- 1:54Speaker 10: I lost my nerve. Damn it. I was going to
- 1:55Speaker 10: sing it. I'm sorry.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Oh, come on. No.
- 1:58Speaker 12: Oh, come on.
- 1:59Speaker 13: Just imagine that I said Thunderbuck to the tune of Thunderstruck,
- 2:02Speaker 13: and that's what it would be.
- 2:04Speaker 2: It's just cheap now. You've got to do it. You've
- 2:07Speaker 2: got to throw up some devil horns.
- 2:09Speaker 14: Come on.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Let's follow through with this.
- 2:11Speaker 10: Fred, can you do it?
- 2:12Speaker 6: I don't know the reference.
- 2:15Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 2:16Speaker 2: What is this?
- 2:17Speaker 10: Okay, anyway, Thundermark. It's delicious. Thank you.
- 2:21Speaker 6: I'll sing it to the tune of anything I know.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Bee Gees is where we're going.
- 2:26Speaker 6: Well, for some reason, maybe it was because, you know,
- 2:30Speaker 6: last week, my daughter watched Taxi Driver with me, and
- 2:36Speaker 6: the next morning she wakes up and she's singing Roxanne
- 2:38Speaker 6: all morning.
- 2:41Speaker 14: Roxanne, you don't have to wear that dress tonight.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Very fitting for prostitutes.
- 2:51Speaker 6: And I don't know where that came from. She was
- 2:53Speaker 6: singing that.
- 2:54Speaker 2: You know, it's not in the movie, but the actions
- 2:56Speaker 2: going on in the movie are.
- 2:58Speaker 7: Of common theme.
- 2:58Speaker 6: I didn't even know she knew that song, but she's
- 3:00Speaker 6: going around the house all day.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Roxanne.
- 3:04Speaker 2: So can you turn that into Thundermuck? Thundermuck.
- 3:10Speaker 6: You don't have to.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Fill that cup tonight. Fill that cup tonight.
- 3:18Speaker 6: I love you since I knew you. I wouldn't put
- 3:24Speaker 6: creamer in. I don't know.
- 3:26Speaker 11: What am I supposed to do?
- 3:29Speaker 6: I'm just a cabbie, man. I don't know what the
- 3:31Speaker 6: fuck you're talking about.
- 3:35Speaker 2: I don't know music. I'd like to follow music.
- 3:39Speaker 11: I'd like to. I just don't know.
- 3:42Speaker 10: It must be good if you're interested in it.
- 3:44Speaker 2: I don't know much about coffee, but I'd like to
- 3:47Speaker 2: learn more, I suppose. Alright, so with that, I think
- 3:54Speaker 2: we've had a few run-ins lately with some crazy Geek
- 3:57Speaker 2: Week fests, so I think we're going to shoot for
- 3:59Speaker 2: that this week. Everybody still seems to like the crazy
- 4:03Speaker 2: geek activity episodes, so I'm sticking with it. I think
- 4:06Speaker 2: they're fun. To launch into that for our round of
- 4:09Speaker 2: geek activities, I've seen a few. One just last night,
- 4:14Speaker 2: I saw Carnage. Are you familiar with Carnage? Yes. Have
- 4:19Speaker 2: you seen Carnage?
- 4:20Speaker 1: No, I have not.
- 4:22Speaker 2: I want to, though. What were your thoughts, Lucy?
- 4:24Speaker 10: We'll hear you start, and I'll jump on in.
- 4:30Speaker 2: If you like to see people argue, this is the
- 4:32Speaker 2: movie for you. If you like middle-aged couples arguing a
- 4:37Speaker 2: lot in weird ways.
- 4:39Speaker 1: This is right up your alley.
- 4:40Speaker 13: Or if you like to go to stage plays but
- 4:45Speaker 13: don't like for there to be people in the.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Room with you.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Or if you like to pretend like you're in New
- 4:50Speaker 2: York but you can't really come to America. This is
- 4:54Speaker 2: the movie for you because it's directed by Roman Polanski.
- 5:00Speaker 2: So this wonderful New York apartment isn't in New York.
- 5:03Speaker 2: It's probably in France. So yeah, I'm not sure. I
- 5:09Speaker 2: had a really mixed response like about 15, 20 minutes in.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I'm like, am I still supposed to be watching this?
- 5:19Speaker 2: And then as it went on, I was like through
- 5:20Speaker 2: moments where I'm like, okay, that was funny. So I mean, it's, it's, Like,
- 5:24Speaker 2: it's funny, but it doesn't know how to be funny.
- 5:27Speaker 2: At best, it's awkwardly funny sometimes.
- 5:29Speaker 10: Yeah, it's one of those things that's like a really
- 5:31Speaker 10: good concept piece.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:33Speaker 13: I mean, it's effective in terms of it's supposed to
- 5:36Speaker 13: feel claustrophobic and tedious and make you uncomfortable.
- 5:42Speaker 2: It's tedious.
- 5:43Speaker 10: But that's a terrible... I mean, I saw it in
- 5:44Speaker 10: the theater, so I paid however many dollars. I mean,
- 5:47Speaker 10: it was a very.
- 5:48Speaker 13: I mean, I was not familiar with the stage play,
- 5:50Speaker 13: but it seemed like a pretty faithful adaptation.
- 5:52Speaker 2: As far as they didn't do anything else with it.
- 5:57Speaker 2: They didn't leave that fucking apartment.
- 6:00Speaker 10: But that's the point. I mean, it has to be that.
- 6:02Speaker 13: So when I saw the trailer, I was on board,
- 6:04Speaker 13: and the performances are great, and I like it when...
- 6:07Speaker 13: kate winslet is supposed to be unlikable like i can
- 6:10Speaker 13: wrap my head around that more than me going oh
- 6:12Speaker 13: god i'm supposed to like her and she's so unlikable i.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Don't know i didn't dislike her as much as and
- 6:16Speaker 2: again going on about jodie foster i love jodie foster
- 6:19Speaker 2: but she's not likable in this movie no nobody is
- 6:21Speaker 2: it's a.
- 6:22Speaker 10: Movie that makes you hate humanity kind.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Of but midway in i'm like i don't know the
- 6:28Speaker 2: guys get funnier the more that they just don't give
- 6:30Speaker 2: a shit where the women just seem like more pissed
- 6:33Speaker 2: off the whole time but it's not fun but like
- 6:36Speaker 2: The fact that Christoph Waltz never cares. He gets funny.
- 6:41Speaker 2: The phone is annoying, I'll agree, but that's the point
- 6:44Speaker 2: of it. But, yeah, when he's not on the phone,
- 6:46Speaker 2: and some of his delivery on those lines... The performances
- 6:49Speaker 2: are all great. That's the thing. I can't knock it, really,
- 6:53Speaker 2: other than it's not really fun. But performance-wise, it's nothing
- 6:59Speaker 2: but top-notch. Four amazing performances, but... nobody's really overly likable
- 7:06Speaker 2: and all they do is argue and i don't know
- 7:08Speaker 2: it's a lot to deal with i have to say.
- 7:10Speaker 10: Should we talk about the concepts with people that haven't
- 7:12Speaker 10: i mean is everybody familiar with.
- 7:13Speaker 15: It it's yeah it's kind of interesting in today's world somewhat.
- 7:20Speaker 13: Yeah i've heard of it i haven't seen it yeah
- 7:22Speaker 13: it's just two sets of parents that meet to talk
- 7:23Speaker 13: about this situations happen between their sons.
- 7:26Speaker 6: Oh yeah, the bullying thing.
- 7:29Speaker 13: And so they become increasingly infantile and then you see
- 7:32Speaker 13: where all the behavior comes from. They start blaming each
- 7:34Speaker 13: other and then blaming themselves and then it just turns
- 7:35Speaker 13: into a disaster. So it's very much along the lines
- 7:39Speaker 13: of misanthropic Mr.
- 7:41Speaker 10: Polanski's worldview.
- 7:43Speaker 15: Okay, I'm going to ask a question and the answer
- 7:46Speaker 15: may be a deal breaker for me as far as
- 7:48Speaker 15: wanting to see this movie. Are there annoying instances of
- 7:52Speaker 15: dubbing so that they could Do the thing that Polanski
- 7:56Speaker 15: did with Ghost Rider, where at first it was an R,
- 7:58Speaker 15: but they had to replace all the fucks with salting
- 8:02Speaker 15: and stuff like that. Is there any of that here?
- 8:04Speaker 15: Because that was just... The dubbing in Ghost Rider was
- 8:06Speaker 15: atrocious and made me hate it.
- 8:08Speaker 2: It's R, isn't it? It's R? He went R this time?
- 8:11Speaker 2: It seemed pretty R as I remember it. So I
- 8:13Speaker 2: was going to say, if Polanski does that again, I can't.
- 8:16Speaker 2: I don't even think that was R.
- 8:20Speaker 16: I don't know.
- 8:20Speaker 2: The performances are good. It's... Again, for somebody who's supposedly
- 8:24Speaker 2: such a visually impressive director, it's not visually impressive at all.
- 8:29Speaker 2: It's pretty static, and it could have been... Granted, you're
- 8:33Speaker 2: on one set, more or less, but it's still... He
- 8:36Speaker 2: doesn't do anything with that camera. It could have been
- 8:38Speaker 2: directed by a TV director. I mean, it was... No, he.
- 8:41Speaker 10: Put this one in, and then he gets the.
- 8:44Speaker 13: Comfort of saying, well, that's what it's supposed to be.
- 8:46Speaker 1: You're supposed to feel.
- 8:47Speaker 6: Like you're trapped in the scene and you can't move.
- 8:49Speaker 6: Everything's the way it's supposed to be.
- 8:52Speaker 2: I've seen them do stage plays turned into movies that
- 8:55Speaker 2: are still pretty much on one set and yet they
- 8:58Speaker 2: find it at least doesn't feel as monotonous as that
- 9:03Speaker 2: one does.
- 9:04Speaker 17: I don't know.
- 9:05Speaker 6: I've never really been a big fan of Polanski.
- 9:07Speaker 2: He's hit and miss.
- 9:09Speaker 10: I like the earlier ones.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Yeah. He was at least visually more interesting back then,
- 9:14Speaker 2: whereas now, even, I kind of remember, Ghost Rider wasn't bad,
- 9:18Speaker 2: but again, there was only once or twice when I, okay,
- 9:20Speaker 2: that was good, and the rest of the time I'm like, eh, whatever.
- 9:22Speaker 13: I mean, I guess I hadn't thought about it, but
- 9:23Speaker 13: it's really obvious that this was sort of a throwback
- 9:25Speaker 13: to the earlier stuff, the trapped in the apartment stuff.
- 9:29Speaker 2: His apartment series.
- 9:30Speaker 10: Yeah. So, maybe he felt compelled, I don't know. It
- 9:33Speaker 10: was just so helpful.
- 9:35Speaker 13: I did have a fun theatrical experience, though, because apparently
- 9:38Speaker 13: there's a really angry lady sitting in front of me.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Oh, that's always fun.
- 9:40Speaker 13: And there's a line where they say something about how
- 9:43Speaker 13: nobody tells you that kids suck.
- 9:44Speaker 10: All of your energy and make you old and ruin
- 9:45Speaker 10: your life.
- 9:46Speaker 13: And she literally stood up and applauded.
- 9:48Speaker 10: And so it was sort of more fun.
- 9:49Speaker 18: To be with her.
- 9:50Speaker 16: That's hilarious.
- 9:51Speaker 6: And to know where she.
- 9:52Speaker 10: Was and kind of where her head was.
- 9:56Speaker 6: Man, you know, if I had seen the anniversary party
- 9:59Speaker 6: in a theater... when, what's her name? Oh, what's that
- 10:03Speaker 6: actress's name who married Kevin Kline?
- 10:06Speaker 2: Phoebe Cates.
- 10:07Speaker 6: When she says, when you have kids, you can't put
- 10:11Speaker 6: your head in a nothing. They take away that option.
- 10:15Speaker 2: I would have been on my feet.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Man, That was so real.
- 10:20Speaker 4: Nice.
- 10:26Speaker 6: It was almost like she stepped out of character and
- 10:29Speaker 6: was saying it through.
- 10:30Speaker 2: The movie screen. Just to everybody.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Breaking the fourth wall.
- 10:34Speaker 6: It's like, I'm just supposed to be what?
- 10:37Speaker 2: Basically me? I don't know.
- 10:39Speaker 6: I'm married to Kevin Kwan. I'm not acting.
- 10:41Speaker 2: I don't give a fuck.
- 10:42Speaker 6: Let me tell you something. When you have kids, you
- 10:46Speaker 6: can't put your head in an oven anymore.
- 10:48Speaker 2: You can't do yourself in.
- 10:51Speaker 6: You need to know this going into it. Nobody tells you.
- 10:55Speaker 2: She did kind of stop acting and be a mom
- 10:57Speaker 2: for quite a while there, so that really probably was
- 11:01Speaker 2: her line. Yeah.
- 11:02Speaker 4: Oh, I don't know.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Again, they're sort of fun moments. John C. Reilly is
- 11:06Speaker 2: an odd choice, I thought, too, but he kind of works.
- 11:09Speaker 6: I was actually.
- 11:09Speaker 13: Surprised by his participation, since he's avoided films before.
- 11:14Speaker 10: There's a whole Lars von Trier thing where he's like,
- 11:15Speaker 10: I'm not going to be in the movie where they
- 11:16Speaker 10: kill the.
- 11:16Speaker 13: Donkey, but I'll be in the Roman Polanski.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Movie, so... Right. Interesting. He's got such a weird career
- 11:24Speaker 2: anyway that he turns in these amazing serious performances and
- 11:28Speaker 2: then he's doing Step Brothers.
- 11:29Speaker 1: He's like Indy King and then he's what's his? Cal
- 11:34Speaker 1: Naughton Jr.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 11:37Speaker 15: There was a time where I thought he was like, oh,
- 11:39Speaker 15: this guy's kind of scary. I don't know if he's
- 11:42Speaker 15: going to beat someone up in this next scene. He
- 11:44Speaker 15: was in The Good Girl and he played that angry husband. And, like,
- 11:49Speaker 15: Gangs of New York, he was, like, the really kind
- 11:50Speaker 15: of corrupt, you know, mean cop. And, like, now I
- 11:54Speaker 15: just can't, like, I'm thinking Dewey Cox, Steve Ruhle.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Like, dude, you're just a goofball. I can't take you seriously. Like,
- 12:00Speaker 2: I don't know if I ever will again. That's a
- 12:02Speaker 2: hard road, you know, trying to be an actor that
- 12:05Speaker 2: does both of those extremes. It's really weird.
- 12:09Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 12:09Speaker 6: When you were on the Oscars, he did a song
- 12:11Speaker 6: about that, didn't he?
- 12:13Speaker 1: I think that's the song from the Dewey Cox movie. It's, like,
- 12:15Speaker 1: Hard Road or something like that, isn't there?
- 12:18Speaker 6: Well, it was a song about how he did Boogie
- 12:22Speaker 6: Nights and Legend of Ricky Bobby. Oh, no, yeah, it
- 12:29Speaker 6: begins with Will Ferrell singing about how Oscar night is
- 12:34Speaker 6: a sad night for the comedy man.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Well, that's true.
- 12:37Speaker 6: Because you never get the Oscar for comedy. And then
- 12:41Speaker 6: John C. Reilly steps in and sings this duet about
- 12:44Speaker 6: how you can play both sides together You can do, like,
- 12:49Speaker 6: when they come up with the most obvious Oscar-pleading movies,
- 12:53Speaker 6: like about, I don't know, the My Left Foot, kind of.
- 12:58Speaker 6: You have to give it an Oscar or you're in trouble.
- 13:02Speaker 11: It was a good song.
- 13:04Speaker 6: If you didn't see that, you should look it up,
- 13:06Speaker 6: because it had some insight into Oscar night.
- 13:12Speaker 2: And the fact that you're screwed if you're a comedian.
- 13:14Speaker 16: Yeah. Pretty much.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Pretty much. Well, I've definitely got one more that I
- 13:20Speaker 2: wanted to throw in there, and there's a few more,
- 13:22Speaker 2: so I can come back around if we run out
- 13:24Speaker 2: midway in. But the other one I definitely wanted to hit,
- 13:28Speaker 2: I don't know if you've seen this, 2012 Zombie Apocalypse.
- 13:32Speaker 6: Nope.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Can't say I have.
- 13:35Speaker 11: Well, it just showed up on the feed.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Right. And, you know, Walking Dead's over now, so I
- 13:44Speaker 2: gotta fill the zombie void with something. So I'm like, alright,
- 13:47Speaker 2: we'll see what the hell this is. Especially when I
- 13:48Speaker 2: saw one of the cast members. We'll get to him
- 13:51Speaker 2: in a minute. But to put it in perspective, this
- 13:54Speaker 2: is an asylum-made movie. If you're not familiar with them,
- 13:58Speaker 2: they're the people that brought us Paranormal Entity, Transmorphers, Fall
- 14:04Speaker 2: of Man, as well as impressive films like Megashark vs.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Giant Octopus, And Titanic 2. Yeah.
- 14:14Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 14:15Speaker 2: So, okay, this is what we're dealing with. But still,
- 14:19Speaker 2: they're trying to make a sort of, you know, imagine
- 14:22Speaker 2: this post-apocalyptic world and it's relatively serious and you're dealing
- 14:27Speaker 2: with life and death situations. And I don't know if
- 14:30Speaker 2: the rest of you will. Greg, you'll definitely get this. Now,
- 14:32Speaker 2: imagine right in the middle of it, Crabman. Oh, yeah.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Eddie Steeples is in this, who would be Darnell from
- 14:39Speaker 2: My Name is Earl. Yeah. With the hair. I mean,
- 14:44Speaker 2: I love that guy. He is so great in My
- 14:47Speaker 2: Name is Earl, and now he's on Raising Hope. And
- 14:51Speaker 2: he's hilarious, and he's a good actor, but I can't
- 14:54Speaker 2: take him serious. It's much like the Dewey Cox story.
- 14:57Speaker 2: I can't watch this guy in serious stuff. Maybe I just,
- 15:01Speaker 2: he's been in other stuff before, but maybe I've just
- 15:04Speaker 2: never seen him before My Name is Earl. But now, like,
- 15:06Speaker 2: trying to watch him, like, shoot zombies it's just so
- 15:10Speaker 2: laughable but the one that really puzzled me is i'm
- 15:14Speaker 2: looking through the list and it's got ving rames in
- 15:17Speaker 2: it what the hell is going on with his career
- 15:20Speaker 2: that he's i mean i can understand you know the
- 15:24Speaker 2: tv actor you know my name is canceled he's just
- 15:27Speaker 2: looking for a job but ving rames at one point
- 15:30Speaker 2: was making some pretty impressive movies And why is he
- 15:33Speaker 2: obsessed with zombie movies? This is like his third one
- 15:35Speaker 2: that I could think of offhand. Yeah, he's in both
- 15:38Speaker 2: of the others. He's in the Dawn of the Dead remake,
- 15:40Speaker 2: which is awesome. He's in Day of the Dead as
- 15:42Speaker 2: a different character, which is terrible, by the way. And
- 15:46Speaker 2: now he's in this one, which is also terrible. So, yeah,
- 15:51Speaker 2: where to begin with this thing?
- 15:53Speaker 1: Just wants a check.
- 15:55Speaker 2: But I would think Sci-Fi Channel isn't going to write
- 15:57Speaker 2: a very big check, because I'm thinking this is where,
- 16:00Speaker 2: I think they're tied in with you know, running these
- 16:02Speaker 2: kind of movies. So, yeah, the cartoon blood is so bad.
- 16:10Speaker 2: What is that? Is that like the CGI blood that's
- 16:13Speaker 2: trending now? Oh, that's so bad. I mean, CGI blood's
- 16:16Speaker 2: bad anyway, but now you take all of the money
- 16:18Speaker 2: out of the already bad CGI blood, and it really
- 16:21Speaker 2: is like them with a Sharpie on the screen. With
- 16:25Speaker 2: a Sharpie, yeah. So, yeah, you already get that. The
- 16:29Speaker 2: acting's pretty bad anyway. Um, also just the characters themselves.
- 16:35Speaker 2: I like, it's almost like it is straight out of
- 16:37Speaker 2: like a, a, like they took the character sketches that
- 16:41Speaker 2: they made. And like, it's so like car, like Saturday
- 16:44Speaker 2: morning cartoon characters, because each person has their own special weapon.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Like nobody has the same thing. Nobody's gotten up like nothing.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Like everybody has a blunt instrument or something of that sort.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Like the, the Darnell's got a hockey stick and like,
- 17:01Speaker 2: Vinger Ames has a sledgehammer. So it's essentially Ninja Turtles design. Yeah,
- 17:05Speaker 2: it is. Because each one, it's not like two people
- 17:07Speaker 2: have a baseball bat. No, they each get, you get
- 17:10Speaker 2: a hockey stick, you get a baseball bat, you get
- 17:12Speaker 2: a ninja sword, which that chick is pretty good with
- 17:15Speaker 2: a ninja sword, I'll give her that. But yeah, the
- 17:18Speaker 2: fact that it's all perfectly, every character has their own
- 17:21Speaker 2: little thing. One dude is wearing football shoulder pads. I
- 17:27Speaker 2: don't really know why. The whole movie, he's running around
- 17:30Speaker 2: with the, like, I guess they're constantly trying to bite
- 17:32Speaker 2: your shoulder? I don't know.
- 17:34Speaker 6: He's wearing shoulder pads the entire.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Can't be too careful. I guess. I think he's wearing, like,
- 17:39Speaker 2: shin guards, too. I don't know. He just, like, hit
- 17:41Speaker 2: the sporting goods store and stocked up. I don't know.
- 17:44Speaker 2: They also make several references, like, cheesy, lame references to
- 17:51Speaker 2: other movie, like, horror movies. So they're, like, at one point,
- 17:55Speaker 2: they're sitting there very hand-fistedly delivering this dialogue.
- 17:58Speaker 10: Of, remember that one guy, you know, what was his name? Kirkman.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Oh, like Robert Kirkman, the writer of The Walking Dead?
- 18:07Speaker 2: Thank you for an inside joke there. A very badly
- 18:10Speaker 2: delivered inside joke. And then, like, one of them got
- 18:13Speaker 2: his gun at S-Mart.
- 18:15Speaker 7: Really?
- 18:16Speaker 2: Did you?
- 18:17Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 18:18Speaker 10: Wow.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Where's the receipt for that? I don't know. And yet
- 18:23Speaker 2: there was part of me that was gladly continuing on
- 18:26Speaker 2: this little, it's bad, but it's so bad I had
- 18:30Speaker 2: to see it through in my usual glutton for punishment fashion.
- 18:34Speaker 2: I have to see where they go with this thing.
- 18:38Speaker 2: What breed of zombies do they use in this movie?
- 18:41Speaker 12: Is it the.
- 18:42Speaker 15: Walking dead, slow, you know?
- 18:45Speaker 2: Moaning kind of zombies, or the sprinting?
- 18:48Speaker 15: Because Bing Rames is in it, and I know he's
- 18:50Speaker 15: pretty awesome at fighting the sprinters, who I've seen in
- 18:53Speaker 15: Dawn of the Dead.
- 18:54Speaker 2: But it'd be interesting to see how he fins off
- 18:56Speaker 2: against these, you know. Does bad acting count as a
- 19:00Speaker 2: style zombie? Is there a third option that is people
- 19:04Speaker 2: that are not that good at being zombies? Because some
- 19:06Speaker 2: of these I'm just looking at going, oh, that's terrible.
- 19:08Speaker 2: All you have to be is undead, and you're doing
- 19:12Speaker 2: it wrong. Yeah, it's... man it's rough uh i guess
- 19:17Speaker 2: closer to romero slow zombies but again they're just i'm
- 19:22Speaker 2: not buying any.
- 19:23Speaker 19: Of them it's so bad i feel like we need
- 19:25Speaker 19: to take a cue like zombie movies need to have
- 19:28Speaker 19: like a that one kind of it was a popular
- 19:31Speaker 19: thing in the 80s where they had the the one
- 19:34Speaker 19: leader zombie that was kind of funny like in return
- 19:37Speaker 19: living dead like and it kind of talks he's like
- 19:39Speaker 19: super smart and And it just doesn't take itself seriously.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Tarman. We need to go back to that. The Tarman, exactly.
- 19:45Speaker 15: We didn't have a tarman wandering around and like, you know,
- 19:47Speaker 15: kind of cut to him every now and then see
- 19:49Speaker 15: what he's up to.
- 19:50Speaker 1: I would like to see a, um, a zombie movie
- 19:53Speaker 1: and they may have already made one.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Cause there's a million.
- 19:56Speaker 13: Oh yeah.
- 19:56Speaker 1: A hundred every week. But I'd like to see one
- 19:59Speaker 1: where every character is, or the zombie fighting group is, um,
- 20:06Speaker 1: zombie movie geeks and so they know everything that should
- 20:10Speaker 1: be happening right and what weapon no we have to
- 20:12Speaker 1: have this weapon we can't do this we can't go
- 20:14Speaker 1: here you know.
- 20:15Speaker 15: Isn't that and they totally fail like they yeah not
- 20:19Speaker 15: i mean i'm talking almost you know uh they're just
- 20:22Speaker 15: a little more self-aware i guess and sean of.
- 20:24Speaker 1: The day yeah not self-aware but they that they truly
- 20:27Speaker 1: know they follow the rules oh you know these zombies
- 20:31Speaker 1: are going to evolve and if this happening this has
- 20:33Speaker 1: to happen you know so So that they're almost telling
- 20:36Speaker 1: the movie along with it. I think something like that
- 20:39Speaker 1: would be fun.
- 20:40Speaker 2: That's one of the main issues I have. There are
- 20:42Speaker 2: several things that they sort of allude to that's going
- 20:46Speaker 2: on in this big zombie movement. And you're like, okay,
- 20:50Speaker 2: they brought it up. I guess they're going somewhere.
- 20:51Speaker 16: No.
- 20:53Speaker 2: There's at least two different things that happen and I'm
- 20:55Speaker 2: just like, okay, I guess this is going to come
- 20:57Speaker 2: into play later that they're really doing something with this
- 21:00Speaker 2: idea or why are they bringing it up?
- 21:02Speaker 6: No.
- 21:02Speaker 2: I'm just like, I don't understand. Why bring this shit
- 21:06Speaker 2: up if you're not going to follow through on it? So, yeah,
- 21:10Speaker 2: I guess I won't ruin it for you. The twist
- 21:13Speaker 2: that they're all undead Mayans. No, but I'll just say this.
- 21:20Speaker 2: I won't tell you the specifics, but zombie animals. Granted,
- 21:24Speaker 2: we've kind of seen a little of that in Resident Evil,
- 21:26Speaker 2: but no, this one takes it up a notch by
- 21:28Speaker 2: the big finale, so I won't ruin it for you.
- 21:30Speaker 2: I don't want to blow your free viewing of this,
- 21:33Speaker 2: assuming you have this same service that I have.
- 21:36Speaker 6: Okay, well, if I guess it, though, wordlessly, like, it's
- 21:41Speaker 6: zombie Easter Bunny, right?
- 21:45Speaker 2: That's got to be in one, hasn't it? It's not
- 21:47Speaker 2: this one, but it's probably in one of those movies
- 21:51Speaker 2: out there.
- 21:52Speaker 6: It has to be. It just cries out.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Yeah. to exist it's it's equally as ridiculous if that
- 22:00Speaker 2: helps so yeah it's it's it was quite a.
- 22:04Speaker 6: Time okay i've got it it's a possum and it's
- 22:08Speaker 6: just plain undead.
- 22:13Speaker 2: That that should have been in the movie it was
- 22:16Speaker 2: right up that blunt yeah it's right up that alley
- 22:20Speaker 2: there they're welcome to it i'm.
- 22:23Speaker 1: They should do not another zombie movie. That might be funny.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Yeah, at this point, they've made enough. They can make
- 22:30Speaker 2: one of those stupid movies.
- 22:32Speaker 18: I guess so.
- 22:32Speaker 1: They can do that.
- 22:33Speaker 2: That's at least the main ridiculous ones I was going
- 22:37Speaker 2: to get into. If you guys have stuff, let's go
- 22:41Speaker 2: with it. I watched.
- 22:44Speaker 1: I like Bigfoot movies. we're getting to those by the
- 22:49Speaker 1: way great and one of my favorite movies from childhood
- 22:53Speaker 1: was Harry and the Hendersons but I watched it's not
- 23:00Speaker 1: your typical Bigfoot movie is what it's called and it's
- 23:05Speaker 1: not it's a documentary about some gentlemen in Ohio that
- 23:11Speaker 1: are Bigfoot hunters and they're probably in their 60's They
- 23:18Speaker 1: have hundreds, probably thousands of photos that are supposed to
- 23:21Speaker 1: be Bigfoot. And there are shadows. They're not even clothed.
- 23:31Speaker 1: They're not even guys dressed up. It's just like they'll
- 23:35Speaker 1: take a picture and there's some dark spots in the background.
- 23:38Speaker 1: And they're like, there's eight of them in this picture
- 23:40Speaker 1: right here. Two of them are sitting down.
- 23:42Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 23:43Speaker 2: What's this in this part of the picture? That's your
- 23:45Speaker 2: thumb over the lens, buddy.
- 23:47Speaker 1: And they'll go out into the woods. I guess it's
- 23:51Speaker 1: the Wayne National Forest. And they'll just start taking pictures
- 23:55Speaker 1: and hollering at the whatever, just yelling like they're mating
- 24:01Speaker 1: calls or something. Bigfoot mating calls?
- 24:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:05Speaker 1: And they go to a, down in the Smokies, they
- 24:08Speaker 1: go to a Bigfoot hunters convention.
- 24:10Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 24:11Speaker 2: Like we've all been to. Right.
- 24:12Speaker 1: And it's... I really felt like I wanted to give
- 24:17Speaker 1: these guys a hug because they've devoted their lives to it.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Their houses are leaking. The one guy has to go
- 24:24Speaker 1: and bottle up water from his mom's house because he
- 24:26Speaker 1: can't pay his water bill. And they're just... And the
- 24:31Speaker 1: one fellow, which is kind of the sidekick, and he
- 24:36Speaker 1: really goes... He breaks down several times during the interview process.
- 24:39Speaker 1: He is... extremely suicidal and i question whether he's even
- 24:46Speaker 1: still alive and.
- 24:46Speaker 6: I i almost there are only so many points on
- 24:49Speaker 6: that scale right that you can right day no.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Like he's tried to kill himself yeah and he it's
- 24:58Speaker 1: um it's just it's just sad because they believe so
- 25:01Speaker 1: much or at least one of them believes the other
- 25:03Speaker 1: one just is trying to find something to hold on
- 25:06Speaker 1: to you know something in his life it's and And
- 25:09Speaker 1: the more I watched it, the more I was just
- 25:11Speaker 1: depressed by... And a big-time Bigfoot hunter comes along and
- 25:19Speaker 1: is going to come and visit them and go with them.
- 25:23Speaker 1: And it's just making fun of them. And then they
- 25:28Speaker 1: think that there might be something there, actually, so they
- 25:32Speaker 1: stop calling these guys and go.
- 25:34Speaker 18: Out on their own.
- 25:36Speaker 1: And it's just... And then they kind of put them
- 25:40Speaker 1: up to, put the one up, the sidekick up to
- 25:44Speaker 1: going on to an internet radio show where they almost
- 25:48Speaker 1: set him up to disprove himself. They tell him, you know,
- 25:55Speaker 1: when to say that they took this picture, which was
- 25:57Speaker 1: out of time from when it happened, which was after
- 25:59Speaker 1: a friend of theirs died. You know, all these that
- 26:02Speaker 1: supposedly saw the picture and So they lose any credibility
- 26:06Speaker 1: that they already had.
- 26:07Speaker 2: These are just Bigfoot hunter bullies. What the hell is that?
- 26:11Speaker 2: I don't want to hate. Really? Just let them look
- 26:14Speaker 2: for Bigfoot.
- 26:15Speaker 1: I almost got in the car and drove to them
- 26:18Speaker 1: just to give them a hug. That's how bad I
- 26:20Speaker 1: felt for them.
- 26:21Speaker 10: So what was the tone of the film itself? Was
- 26:23Speaker 10: it respectful of them?
- 26:25Speaker 1: I think the filmmaker, because he visited them several years
- 26:29Speaker 1: before and filmed them. and I think he cares about them,
- 26:37Speaker 1: but at the same time, if he kind of almost,
- 26:41Speaker 1: and it's almost like if he shows this, because they
- 26:44Speaker 1: don't tell each other the truth about what they're feeling.
- 26:48Speaker 10: This is like an intervention.
- 26:49Speaker 1: So it's almost, if they both watched this, they'd both go, oh,
- 26:53Speaker 1: you know, this is how bad it is, and we
- 26:56Speaker 1: need to talk to each other, and we need to
- 26:58Speaker 1: see where this is going. And it's almost like he
- 27:01Speaker 1: was saying, I'm going to through a movie, give these
- 27:04Speaker 1: guys a hug, you know, it, it, it was, um,
- 27:08Speaker 1: and I think it was sweet in the way that
- 27:10Speaker 1: he did it. And I think he, he stayed removed
- 27:14Speaker 1: as a documentarian and just filmed what was happening and just, okay,
- 27:17Speaker 1: show us, show us. Uh, but at the same time
- 27:20Speaker 1: in the process, I think in the way he edited
- 27:22Speaker 1: it can show the, you know, you need to stop
- 27:26Speaker 1: doing this and start taking care of each other. And
- 27:29Speaker 1: that's really the, the end of the movie. Um, And
- 27:34Speaker 1: so it turns out completely, I wanted to go into
- 27:36Speaker 1: it either, I'm going to see something and it's going
- 27:38Speaker 1: to be, you know, kind of, ooh, bigfoot kind of thing.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Or it's going to be funny that we're going to
- 27:47Speaker 1: be making fun of it. And no, it's neither. And
- 27:51Speaker 1: you really, it's really well done for as, I don't
- 27:57Speaker 1: want to say poorly done, but it's just kind of,
- 28:00Speaker 1: we're going to film everything.
- 28:01Speaker 6: Primitive is the respectful way to say it.
- 28:04Speaker 1: We're going to put everything on film that we'd shoot.
- 28:09Speaker 1: And it's realistic, I suppose. I was sad, but happy
- 28:16Speaker 1: that he had done it, I suppose.
- 28:18Speaker 6: But no Bigfoot hunters were harmed in the making of
- 28:23Speaker 6: the film.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Their egos were probably harmed.
- 28:24Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 28:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Well, we're definitely, and you better than any remember the
- 28:33Speaker 2: Bigfoot series we started. We did a couple of them
- 28:37Speaker 2: quite a while ago. And I've been saying for a
- 28:40Speaker 2: while we need to get back on those. And now
- 28:41Speaker 2: I've come in contact with several people who are like
- 28:44Speaker 2: really hardcore Bigfoot fans. So Dave, who's been on the
- 28:49Speaker 2: show now, is really into Bigfoot. And oddly enough, another Ben,
- 28:53Speaker 2: who you know, Greg, is hardcore. So I was talking
- 28:57Speaker 2: to him about doing a little crossover there and having
- 29:00Speaker 2: him sit on a Bigfoot episode. So just to, you know,
- 29:04Speaker 2: give you guys a heads up, we're definitely bringing back
- 29:06Speaker 2: the Bigfoot series. It's never really left. It's just been
- 29:09Speaker 2: on hiatus.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I think the subject matter of Bigfoot is about that,
- 29:16Speaker 1: you know, trying to find the frontier or trying to find,
- 29:20Speaker 1: just like space exploration or anything like that. It's part science,
- 29:24Speaker 1: part myth, part craziness. And some people are more crazy
- 29:29Speaker 1: than others. That's why I think it's fascinating. Yeah.
- 29:33Speaker 2: There's a lot of levels to it.
- 29:35Speaker 6: Something about almost as rare as a Bigfoot sighting is
- 29:39Speaker 6: seeing something rare. funny and interesting on the late show
- 29:44Speaker 6: with Jay Leno, the Tonight Show.
- 29:48Speaker 2: I did see one thing.
- 29:50Speaker 6: Once, and it was what the video, the Bigfoot video,
- 29:58Speaker 6: somebody on his staff compared it to a video of
- 30:03Speaker 6: George W. Bush walking across the front of the White House,
- 30:07Speaker 6: and they were just about identical.
- 30:09Speaker 2: It was amazing.
- 30:11Speaker 6: And I thought, what kind of geekstrosity is this that
- 30:16Speaker 6: they would even think to make the connection, but they
- 30:18Speaker 6: played the one video and the other, and it was
- 30:22Speaker 6: just eerie. It was the same body language.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't know if I'm buying this. I think
- 30:27Speaker 2: it's a myth that there's any comedy on The Tonight
- 30:29Speaker 2: Show now. Johnny, yes. Jay, no.
- 30:32Speaker 6: I'm sorry. Well, we'll go out into the wilds of
- 30:35Speaker 6: YouTube sometime and see if we can find that.
- 30:39Speaker 2: That's a scary place, by the way.
- 30:43Speaker 1: The other thing which turns out to be a documentary
- 30:47Speaker 1: that I watched this week was the Becoming Elmo documentary.
- 30:51Speaker 18: Oh, God.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Kevin Clash.
- 30:54Speaker 2: I've heard that could be interesting, but I just can't
- 30:57Speaker 2: stand Elmo. I can't take it. Even for documentary purposes,
- 31:01Speaker 2: I could not get through it. I'm sorry.
- 31:03Speaker 1: There is so little Elmo in the movie.
- 31:07Speaker 2: I'll take that into consideration.
- 31:08Speaker 1: It's only in the last maybe 15 minutes that you
- 31:11Speaker 1: even get Elmo. It's everything about Jim Henson and Frank Oz.
- 31:16Speaker 2: I'm interested that he was really that close to Jim Henson.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Kermit, what's his name?
- 31:20Speaker 10: The.
- 31:22Speaker 1: The frog? No, the actual designer of Jim Henson's puppets.
- 31:27Speaker 1: I can't remember his name. Anyway, he is the one that,
- 31:31Speaker 1: as a master puppeteer, found Kevin and kind of took
- 31:39Speaker 1: him under his wing and just, come in, I'm going
- 31:41Speaker 1: to show you everything. As a 12-year-old kid, I think, just,
- 31:44Speaker 1: I'm going to show you everything. And it really is about.
- 31:49Speaker 2: How....
- 31:51Speaker 1: All the people along the way that it takes for
- 31:54Speaker 1: someone to get somewhere. Like Captain Kangaroo was kind of
- 31:58Speaker 1: a mentor. And, you know, that he had the option
- 32:02Speaker 1: to work on the Dark Crystal, but he stayed with
- 32:06Speaker 1: Captain Kangaroo, which was tanking, but he stayed with him anyway.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Got to work on Labyrinth. And just all of these
- 32:16Speaker 1: people that touched him and showed him and everything that
- 32:19Speaker 1: he learned and then now... Being able to see him,
- 32:23Speaker 1: he brings in kids that are wanting to be puppeteers.
- 32:29Speaker 1: And he shows them everything. Anything that he can teach them,
- 32:32Speaker 1: he shows them. And it really was that if somebody's
- 32:38Speaker 1: got a dream or something that they want to do,
- 32:41Speaker 1: how you can... Well, for instance, his father, and I
- 32:46Speaker 1: shouldn't be telling you all this because you probably want
- 32:48Speaker 1: to watch the documentary, but his As a kid, his father,
- 32:52Speaker 1: they don't have a lot of money, and he goes
- 32:54Speaker 1: in and he watched Sesame Street and Captain Kangaroo and
- 32:57Speaker 1: all these things, and he sees his father's coat and
- 33:02Speaker 1: the fur on it and everything, and he just cuts
- 33:04Speaker 1: it up and makes his first puppet out of it.
- 33:07Speaker 1: And he knows that he's going to get in trouble,
- 33:09Speaker 1: and he left it in his parents' room like, hey.
- 33:11Speaker 2: This is it.
- 33:11Speaker 10: A compulsive puppet maker.
- 33:14Speaker 1: His parents come in and see it, and he knows
- 33:16Speaker 1: that he's going to get in big trouble. We can't
- 33:19Speaker 1: afford this. And his parents just love it and encourage him.
- 33:26Speaker 1: And his father says the only thing that he said
- 33:28Speaker 1: was ask next time. And that's so important. Like as
- 33:33Speaker 1: a parent, like you can't you never know when the
- 33:37Speaker 1: one thing that you're going to say. that might stop
- 33:40Speaker 1: your kid from doing the thing they want to do.
- 33:42Speaker 6: Yeah, that's funny. I never say anything.
- 33:46Speaker 2: Ah, parenting. Let them do anything. Yeah. What he should
- 33:50Speaker 2: have said is, when you make millions of dollars, you
- 33:52Speaker 2: owe me.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Earn this. But yeah, it was, and how, I guess,
- 33:59Speaker 1: if you have a talent or you have something that
- 34:02Speaker 1: you're good at, you really owe it to the next
- 34:06Speaker 1: generation to show them how to do it. And it
- 34:09Speaker 1: was neat to see how all of those interactions came about.
- 34:13Speaker 1: It was a good, for somebody that I can't hardly stand.
- 34:18Speaker 2: I know. I'm so interested in the story of the guy,
- 34:21Speaker 2: I just wish it was any other character. Cookie Monster,
- 34:24Speaker 2: I'm on board with. The Count, that guy's cool.
- 34:27Speaker 1: But once you see his ability, because he really is
- 34:32Speaker 1: extremely talented.
- 34:34Speaker 12: I suppose.
- 34:35Speaker 1: Once you see his ability, it kind of endears you
- 34:39Speaker 1: towards the character, too.
- 34:42Speaker 2: Now I really don't want to watch it. No, no.
- 34:46Speaker 6: I meant to see that, but I got a different movie.
- 34:49Speaker 6: It was called Being Elmo, and it was about they
- 34:53Speaker 6: found this doorway, and they go inside Elmo's head.
- 34:57Speaker 2: Right.
- 34:57Speaker 6: Elmo gets really pissed about it. He's like, it's my head!
- 35:01Speaker 1: It was produced by Michael Stein.
- 35:07Speaker 2: Oh, God.
- 35:10Speaker 6: But going back to The Tonight Show, did anybody else
- 35:14Speaker 6: see when Kermit would host The Tonight Show?
- 35:17Speaker 2: Still had to be better than Jay.
- 35:18Speaker 6: Oh, yes, man! I was so rooting for him to
- 35:22Speaker 6: get it.
- 35:22Speaker 16: He was amazing!
- 35:25Speaker 2: He's a great host. He always was. He really was.
- 35:28Speaker 6: And people would come out, and they seemed so much
- 35:31Speaker 6: cooler than all the other guests who weren't talking to
- 35:34Speaker 6: a green sock.
- 35:35Speaker 13: Right.
- 35:35Speaker 6: Because they were talking about their careers and their projects
- 35:39Speaker 6: to Kermit.
- 35:40Speaker 2: Right.
- 35:40Speaker 8: It was beautiful.
- 35:42Speaker 6: Man, I would watch that show if they would do that.
- 35:45Speaker 1: And he at least put in the time as a reporter, too,
- 35:48Speaker 1: to earn his way.
- 35:49Speaker 2: That's true.
- 35:50Speaker 6: I know.
- 35:50Speaker 2: He's a journalist.
- 35:51Speaker 6: He did a monologue.
- 35:52Speaker 13: He's a journalist.
- 35:54Speaker 2: He's an all-around entertainer, that Kermit.
- 35:57Speaker 1: I love the new Muppet movie. I don't know if
- 35:59Speaker 1: anybody's seen it.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Oh, it's great.
- 36:01Speaker 1: I love it now.
- 36:01Speaker 2: It's great.
- 36:03Speaker 1: I mean, I loved the Muppet movie as a kid,
- 36:06Speaker 1: and I didn't want it to come out and suck.
- 36:09Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 36:10Speaker 1: And this was fantastic.
- 36:13Speaker 6: I've got it at home. I haven't seen it yet.
- 36:16Speaker 2: I can't believe they haven't tried to bring the show back.
- 36:19Speaker 2: Because they have before, but now that they're a hit again,
- 36:22Speaker 2: you'd think instead of just working on another sequel... they
- 36:24Speaker 2: could get a major deal with a network now and
- 36:26Speaker 2: actually have a weekly show and guest stars again and
- 36:29Speaker 2: bring it back to... Because that's still one of the
- 36:32Speaker 2: best shows ever. As a variety show goes, it was
- 36:36Speaker 2: so amazing. Yeah, for me, I really would put it
- 36:38Speaker 2: up there with SNL. Yeah, and great guests and weird
- 36:43Speaker 2: performances that you would not see anywhere else.
- 36:45Speaker 1: It was a family event at our house. You had
- 36:49Speaker 1: to have everything out of the way in time to watch...
- 36:52Speaker 1: Love the show.
- 36:53Speaker 2: And I even like the late 90s, they tried to
- 36:56Speaker 2: bring it back. And I like that one. They had
- 36:58Speaker 2: a different host, but Kermit was there, and the new
- 37:01Speaker 2: characters were likable, and it worked. It just didn't get
- 37:03Speaker 2: a shot. Like, six episodes, I'm thinking it was gone.
- 37:06Speaker 2: So I think there's still talent in that studio that
- 37:11Speaker 2: could put it together again and make another good weekly show.
- 37:15Speaker 2: I wish they would do that.
- 37:15Speaker 6: They could all come out of retirement for one last score.
- 37:20Speaker 2: Now that would be the good movie.
- 37:21Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 37:23Speaker 1: A Muppets film noir.
- 37:26Speaker 2: A new great Muppet caper. That's what we need. Was
- 37:30Speaker 2: that it for you? All right. We'll take a break
- 37:32Speaker 2: here and be back with the rest of the geek activity.
- 37:35Speaker 10: So now let's get it started. Why don't we get
- 37:39Speaker 10: it started?
- 37:40Speaker 14: It's time to get things started on the most sensational.
- 37:44Speaker 10: Inspirational, celebrational, muppetational.
- 37:48Speaker 9: This is what we call the Muppet Show.
- 38:00Speaker 7: What is it?
- 38:01Speaker 6: Hey, why did butter come?
- 38:03Speaker 7: Popcorn adds sweet butter to hot popcorn.
- 38:07Speaker 10: Mix it up, wrap it up, buttercup is born.
- 38:10Speaker 12: It's delicious.
- 38:11Speaker 2: So nutritious. It's a tasty bite.
- 38:14Speaker 8: It's so much easier.
- 38:14Speaker 16: Crisp and crunchy.
- 38:15Speaker 10: You'll enjoy each bite.
- 38:17Speaker 7: Eat buttercrimps, buttercup, popcorn.
- 38:19Speaker 16: At its best.
- 38:20Speaker 18: Served in a king-size cup.
- 38:22Speaker 2: Eat!

- 39:46Speaker 7: I know, isn't it?
- 39:49Speaker 11: They don't look to be afraid.
- 39:50Speaker 2: They look to be shocked.

- 40:31Speaker 10: I can't maintain this level of ridiculousness.
- 40:33Speaker 2: They made a song.

- 41:25Speaker 10: I've got them.
- 41:26Speaker 2: You've got them, Dave.
- 41:27Speaker 6: That's what makes this character so, so compelling.
- 41:30Speaker 8: Thumbs up from me.
- 41:31Speaker 10: Same here.
- 41:36Speaker 9: This is Dean Cameron, also known as Chainsaw, and you're
- 41:38Speaker 9: listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 41:39Speaker 6: Music I'm Chainsaw.
- 41:48Speaker 2: I'm Dave. We'll see you at the movies.
- 41:58Speaker 8: It's part of your problem, you know.
- 41:59Speaker 12: You haven't seen enough movies. All of life's riddles are answered.
- 42:02Speaker 3: In the movies.
- 42:05Speaker 16: And now, on with the show.
- 42:06Speaker 9: The End.
- 42:15Speaker 7: You don't have to put on that red light Walk
- 42:21Speaker 7: the streets for money You don't care if it's wrong
- 42:26Speaker 7: or if.
- 42:26Speaker 9: It is right Wrong sign.
- 42:32Speaker 7: You don't have to wear that dress tonight.
- 42:46Speaker 6: I saw some stuff.
- 42:48Speaker 1: I thought you couldn't remember what you saw.
- 42:51Speaker 6: Well, it's not a big week. I mean, I did
- 42:54Speaker 6: get around a scene. See, I don't see anything when
- 42:58Speaker 6: it comes out. I still haven't seen Hunger Games.
- 43:01Speaker 2: I was thinking about it. I don't know. I want
- 43:04Speaker 2: to see it.
- 43:05Speaker 6: Do you want to talk about that? No, I don't
- 43:07Speaker 6: want to talk about it.
- 43:08Speaker 2: Do you need to talk?
- 43:09Speaker 20: I talked about it after the film.
- 43:12Speaker 2: I can readjust the microphone if you want to lay
- 43:14Speaker 2: down for this and really get into some sort of
- 43:17Speaker 2: therapeutical situation.
- 43:18Speaker 10: We won't get into that now. Once somebody else has
- 43:21Speaker 10: seen it. Once Beau sees it, I'll fight with him
- 43:23Speaker 10: about it.
- 43:24Speaker 2: Okay.
- 43:24Speaker 6: I've seen it. Speaking of Beau and you fighting, I
- 43:28Speaker 6: saw War Horse.
- 43:28Speaker 10: Uh-oh.
- 43:29Speaker 2: I wish you were here right now.
- 43:31Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 43:32Speaker 10: Because I've already.
- 43:33Speaker 11: Got Alan on my team.
- 43:34Speaker 2: Tell her you loved it.
- 43:37Speaker 6: That would be the interesting choice. No, I didn't love it,
- 43:40Speaker 6: but I liked it in the beginning. I was rooting
- 43:43Speaker 6: for it. In the very beginning, I was like, this
- 43:47Speaker 6: makes sense to me. It's not about war. It's not
- 43:50Speaker 6: about a horse. It's about drinking. It's about drinking. It's
- 43:55Speaker 6: about the dad.
- 43:56Speaker 11: He's this crazy drunk. That's what it's set up to be.
- 44:02Speaker 6: And in a way, it kind of is, but it's just,
- 44:06Speaker 6: it doesn't really work out. But I was so rooting
- 44:09Speaker 6: for it because I understand this. Okay, the crazy dad,
- 44:13Speaker 6: he's the war horse because he's been through the war
- 44:16Speaker 6: and his mom says, we can't understand, you know, when
- 44:19Speaker 6: he does things that are crazy. And the kid goes, well,
- 44:25Speaker 6: he doesn't talk about it. And he's like, well, there
- 44:27Speaker 6: aren't words. We don't know what he's been through. He's
- 44:30Speaker 6: messed up. And he, and, uh, and yeah, and I'm
- 44:35Speaker 6: looking for, okay. And then she's like, so here's a
- 44:39Speaker 6: horse and we follow this horse.
- 44:41Speaker 2: And it's like, it's.
- 44:42Speaker 6: Going to show us in a way, those things that,
- 44:47Speaker 6: you know, make you a broken, not a broken drunk.
- 44:50Speaker 6: He's not quite defeated, but his spirit is, of his father,
- 44:56Speaker 6: he's going to come to understand it. And then it, well,
- 45:02Speaker 6: it becomes there's something about Joey. Everywhere this horse goes,
- 45:06Speaker 6: everybody falls in love with this horse. It does, and
- 45:15Speaker 6: it becomes unintentionally comedic, I think. And I can picture
- 45:20Speaker 6: it working better as a stage thing with a puppet,
- 45:23Speaker 6: because then it's clear We're trying to do something poetic
- 45:27Speaker 6: about a spirit, but this is so illustrational.
- 45:31Speaker 2: Yeah, it's too literal.
- 45:33Speaker 6: Yeah, and it's like the captain's drawings of the horse.
- 45:37Speaker 6: It's like, why does this military captain draw like a
- 45:39Speaker 6: 14-year-old girl?
- 45:42Speaker 11: That's what's wrong with this movie.
- 45:44Speaker 2: Does he then take him and put him in his
- 45:46Speaker 2: lease of Frank Trapper? Yeah, exactly.
- 45:49Speaker 6: It's like I expect him to start putting little glitter
- 45:52Speaker 6: stickers on it.
- 45:53Speaker 10: Come on, those are cool.
- 45:56Speaker 2: Those are cool. We all know that.
- 45:57Speaker 6: There's something just seriously wrong with the style of the movie.
- 46:01Speaker 11: The story interested me for a while. The way they
- 46:05Speaker 11: set it up.
- 46:06Speaker 6: Why are we watching a movie about a horse? Because
- 46:09Speaker 6: the dad's a crazy drunk and there are people that
- 46:12Speaker 6: are like that and it might be interesting to see.
- 46:16Speaker 6: But no, it didn't work for me, but I kind
- 46:20Speaker 6: of thought it was interesting. And then they get into
- 46:25Speaker 6: that thing with the barbed wire and it's like they're
- 46:27Speaker 6: trying to illustrate Picasso's Guernica. But just get the cubism
- 46:34Speaker 6: out of it and just fuck everything up about it.
- 46:38Speaker 2: Pesky cubism.
- 46:39Speaker 6: But still illustrate it. It's like they're trying to do.
- 46:43Speaker 2: It's.
- 46:43Speaker 6: Almost like a joke quote of Guernica, but they don't
- 46:47Speaker 6: mean it as a joke.
- 46:49Speaker 11: They're serious.
- 46:50Speaker 2: That's the thing with Spielberg. He's so earnest that it's
- 46:53Speaker 2: hard for him to do something like that. He approaches
- 46:57Speaker 2: everything so... wholeheartedly that again you're just going to get
- 47:01Speaker 2: a big sappy movie about a horse and that's not
- 47:04Speaker 2: what the way that it sounds like it's intended to
- 47:07Speaker 2: be you know it's yeah i don't know it's such
- 47:10Speaker 2: a weird idea for him to try to do such
- 47:13Speaker 2: a real version of this type of.
- 47:14Speaker 6: Story yeah the funnest thing in the movie for me
- 47:18Speaker 6: is like placing the various actors there's Who is that guy?
- 47:24Speaker 6: What is that face? Where do I know him from?
- 47:26Speaker 2: Where do I know that horse from?
- 47:28Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 47:28Speaker 6: I've seen that horse somewhere before. Yeah.
- 47:32Speaker 1: Oh, yes.
- 47:33Speaker 13: It was in that other completely impossible movie.
- 47:36Speaker 6: Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah, I saw that. And I saw because,
- 47:40Speaker 6: you know, I'm not a big fan anymore. I love
- 47:43Speaker 6: Boogie Nights. I just, I love that movie so much.
- 47:47Speaker 6: It's pretty awesome. I couldn't follow that guy after. I
- 47:51Speaker 6: couldn't follow, like, there will be blood.
- 47:54Speaker 2: Even there will be blood? Yeah. I love that movie.
- 47:58Speaker 6: That's too much time to wait for too little blood.
- 48:01Speaker 2: By the time the blood arrives, we will promise blood.
- 48:04Speaker 6: It's just so ponderous and heavy. And then Magnolia. And
- 48:11Speaker 6: I've heard people say, like, brilliant, insightful things about it.
- 48:15Speaker 6: And I'm like, Yeah, I can see that.
- 48:17Speaker 2: That's the one I have a problem with.
- 48:18Speaker 6: I can see that, but I just, I don't feel it.
- 48:21Speaker 6: What I feel is this soundtrack telling me something serious
- 48:26Speaker 6: is going on here. And then flies fall out of
- 48:30Speaker 6: the sky, and I just don't care. And people have
- 48:34Speaker 6: talked to me, it's like, well, it's about forgiveness, and
- 48:37Speaker 6: this one character can't forgive themselves, and he's Yeah, okay.
- 48:41Speaker 6: That's good.
- 48:41Speaker 11: You know, my neighbors have issues, too.
- 48:44Speaker 6: But it doesn't make for a satisfying film experience for
- 48:47Speaker 6: me to look through their fucking windows.
- 48:49Speaker 2: What, Mike? Just get a camera and start filming.
- 48:52Speaker 6: But then, I think one of our geek crew said, well,
- 48:57Speaker 6: did you see Punch Drunk Love? No, I haven't seen that.
- 49:02Speaker 6: And I watched that movie, and I loved it.
- 49:04Speaker 11: I really like it.
- 49:04Speaker 1: Thank God, because... I think just the camera work alone
- 49:09Speaker 1: in that movie is worth watching.
- 49:10Speaker 13: See, I think the same thing, but just the camera
- 49:13Speaker 13: Not just the camera.
- 49:15Speaker 2: Just the camera.
- 49:16Speaker 1: Well, the next Guzman is fantastic.
- 49:18Speaker 10: I think it's so... I think it's such a great
- 49:21Speaker 10: film to look at. It's just like, it maybe made.
- 49:24Speaker 6: An effort with the story that I could have fallen
- 49:26Speaker 6: in love. Well, the story, it has some of that slowness,
- 49:31Speaker 6: that problematic... I don't know. But I do love the
- 49:37Speaker 6: scene where he and... what's her name, are walking to
- 49:43Speaker 6: the room and they're going to have sex and they
- 49:45Speaker 6: kind of know. And it's just so sexy. They're just
- 49:50Speaker 6: so awkward.
- 49:50Speaker 1: Because of how awkward it is?
- 49:52Speaker 11: It's awkward, but not excruciating awkward.
- 49:55Speaker 6: It's just, it's really nicely done. And it has that
- 49:59Speaker 6: blue color in it that your eye just follows it
- 50:03Speaker 6: in every scene when he's in the supermarket. They have
- 50:06Speaker 6: that blue tone. There's something really nice about it. So
- 50:11Speaker 6: then Brian mentioned to me Heart 8, speaking of John C.
- 50:16Speaker 7: Reilly.
- 50:17Speaker 6: So I'm having to go backwards in this guy's career
- 50:20Speaker 6: to find what I'm looking for.
- 50:21Speaker 2: That's what I was saying, because you didn't like the
- 50:23Speaker 2: newer stuff.
- 50:24Speaker 6: No, I do not like the newer stuff.
- 50:26Speaker 2: The older one that I remember was not all that
- 50:28Speaker 2: ponderous and weird. It was just sort of a more
- 50:30Speaker 2: straightforward story. It's been a long time since I've seen it.
- 50:33Speaker 2: Was I making that up?
- 50:34Speaker 6: No, it was really good.
- 50:35Speaker 2: Okay, that's how I remembered it.
- 50:37Speaker 6: John C. Reilly is great, and What's-Her-Name is really good
- 50:41Speaker 6: in it.
- 50:41Speaker 2: Gwyneth, wasn't she in that? Gwyneth. Yeah, who everybody hates now, but... Yeah, her.
- 50:47Speaker 6: Oh, she was so believable as just being messed up
- 50:51Speaker 6: in the arguments they have. It has that kind of thing,
- 50:55Speaker 6: like how could... Like the dinner scene we were talking
- 50:59Speaker 6: about recently in Kill List. How does somebody create something
- 51:04Speaker 6: so believable?
- 51:05Speaker 1: Don't listen to the show.
- 51:08Speaker 2: Do not listen to the show until after you see it.
- 51:11Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a great thing to say. But yeah, the conversations,
- 51:15Speaker 6: and when they get into deep trouble and they're too
- 51:19Speaker 6: stupid to figure their way out of it, it's beautiful.
- 51:22Speaker 6: It's just my kind of thing. And what Philip Seymour
- 51:28Speaker 6: Hoffman always says.
- 51:31Speaker 1: Isn't he in Punch Drunk Love?
- 51:33Speaker 2: Isn't he just crazy? Yes.
- 51:38Speaker 1: I think I would hate him.
- 51:39Speaker 6: That guy.
- 51:40Speaker 1: As a person. He's such a.
- 51:42Speaker 2: Dick in that movie.
- 51:43Speaker 13: When I was living in Los Angeles, I had a
- 51:46Speaker 13: friend that went to the same coffee shop that he did,
- 51:48Speaker 13: and apparently he would sit at the head of this
- 51:50Speaker 13: coffee table with all of these young acolytes, and they
- 51:55Speaker 13: would just gaze at him.
- 51:56Speaker 10: Adoringly, and he would dispense words of wisdom.
- 52:00Speaker 2: He always brings that intensity and a lot of times
- 52:02Speaker 2: it's interesting to me his line readings if.
- 52:03Speaker 1: I was directing.
- 52:04Speaker 19: Something they just sound wrong but.
- 52:06Speaker 10: They work they sound wrong like some of his great
- 52:08Speaker 10: line readings are.
- 52:27Speaker 6: When he's badgering the old gambler guy at the craps table.
- 52:32Speaker 2: That guy's awesome. The lead guy. What's his name? Philip
- 52:35Speaker 2: Baker Hall. Yeah. That guy.
- 52:38Speaker 6: I can't imagine anybody else being him in that movie.
- 52:43Speaker 6: He just... It wouldn't... I can't picture it working.
- 52:48Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, Philip Seymour Hoffman, if we ever run into
- 52:52Speaker 2: him and he gets a little too full of himself,
- 52:54Speaker 2: I can put him in his place. Yeah. all I
- 52:56Speaker 2: have to say is, my boyfriend's back. Okay? Shut up.
- 53:01Speaker 2: Shut up. You're in my boyfriend's back. How long came Pauly? Well,
- 53:05Speaker 2: but that's when he was successful. But yeah, he's a dorky,
- 53:08Speaker 2: he's one of the jackass friends that's picking on the
- 53:11Speaker 2: main character with his baseball cap backwards. No, no, no.
- 53:15Speaker 2: Don't get all heady with me, buddy. You're in my
- 53:17Speaker 2: boyfriend's back.
- 53:18Speaker 6: What was the line reading in Boogie Nights that always
- 53:22Speaker 6: sounded wrong? It was like, When he's trying to make
- 53:26Speaker 6: friends with Marky Mark, he's like, oh.
- 53:30Speaker 2: You work on the movies? I work on the movies.
- 53:32Speaker 6: So, you know, if you ever, you know.
- 53:38Speaker 2: Foreshadowing of Truman Capote there.
- 53:41Speaker 6: Yeah. Yeah, and he was in storytelling. Yeah. Did you see?
- 53:49Speaker 1: No.
- 53:52Speaker 2: He's a good actor. But I could see in the
- 53:54Speaker 2: real world he would probably not be a fun person
- 53:57Speaker 2: to hang out with. I could be mistaken. I don't know.
- 54:00Speaker 2: I haven't hung out at that coffee shop, obviously. We
- 54:03Speaker 2: can try to do an episode there.
- 54:05Speaker 11: If he would come here.
- 54:08Speaker 2: We've got a coffee shop for him. Come on. Get
- 54:10Speaker 2: over here. I won't bring that up.
- 54:14Speaker 1: I'll be busy that episode.
- 54:15Speaker 2: No. Come on. I'd give him a shot. I won't
- 54:19Speaker 2: bring that movie up right off the bat. Eventually I
- 54:22Speaker 2: probably would, but you.
- 54:23Speaker 9: Don't want to know.
- 54:24Speaker 1: That's the sofa theater episode.
- 54:28Speaker 2: Tell us about my boyfriend's back.
- 54:33Speaker 1: You've got it on a four by six card.
- 54:36Speaker 13: I think you're underestimating him because I'm pretty sure he
- 54:39Speaker 13: could be smug about that.
- 54:40Speaker 10: And come up with some reason why that was important.
- 54:43Speaker 2: I'm sure he could.
- 54:46Speaker 10: Do you have more?
- 54:47Speaker 13: Because I saw another John C. I think this is
- 54:49Speaker 13: the John C.
- 54:50Speaker 20: Reilly.
- 54:50Speaker 6: Yeah, it's the John C. Reilly hour.
- 54:54Speaker 10: Do you have more, though?
- 54:55Speaker 16: I don't want to.
- 54:56Speaker 2: Not really.
- 54:56Speaker 6: I mean, let me wind down. I saw Hostel. I've
- 54:59Speaker 6: never seen Hostel.
- 55:01Speaker 11: It's all right.
- 55:02Speaker 2: If you like killing people. Yeah.
- 55:04Speaker 1: Don't see Hostel 2.
- 55:06Speaker 6: I don't know. Really?
- 55:07Speaker 2: I actually think it was the better movie. Really? I
- 55:10Speaker 2: felt that way. I don't know.
- 55:12Speaker 6: I think it would.
- 55:14Speaker 1: Just get cheaper. Any of those types. And I think
- 55:18Speaker 1: I finally saw The Cabin in the Woods.
- 55:20Speaker 2: You saw that? No, I saw the trailer.
- 55:23Speaker 15: Okay, because I was just going to say that's the
- 55:25Speaker 15: movie I'm going to geek out about, but I'm so
- 55:28Speaker 15: stoked for that.
- 55:29Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to it.
- 55:30Speaker 1: I'm afraid it's going to be Saw. That's what I'm afraid.
- 55:35Speaker 2: But he's way more clever.
- 55:37Speaker 15: They're saying it like it just, it's like a scream killer. Like,
- 55:42Speaker 15: you will not be able to look at any horror
- 55:45Speaker 15: movie the same way.
- 55:46Speaker 2: It's like... That's kind of what I'm hoping. What movie
- 55:49Speaker 2: is this? The Cabin in the Woods.
- 55:51Speaker 15: It's like, I'm, from looking at the trailers and, like,
- 55:54Speaker 15: reading the synopsis, I'm guessing it's like Inception meets Evil
- 55:57Speaker 15: Dead 2 or something.
- 55:58Speaker 2: Like, it's... Looks pretty crazy. He's really good.
- 56:03Speaker 6: It seems like you get so many, like, hyped-up blurbs
- 56:07Speaker 6: about horror movies.
- 56:08Speaker 2: Yeah, and I always talk to them and I go, oh,
- 56:10Speaker 2: it's another horror movie. Building those movies up.
- 56:16Speaker 1: They preach to the choir down there, don't they?
- 56:18Speaker 2: Yeah, from what I've heard. I haven't been, but yeah.
- 56:22Speaker 2: But it's one Joss Whedon had been working on for
- 56:25Speaker 2: quite a while. I was thinking he was going to
- 56:27Speaker 2: direct it. I forgot he handed it off. But still,
- 56:30Speaker 2: the fact that he's writing it and has been this
- 56:34Speaker 2: hardcore into it And probably would have directed it, I guess,
- 56:37Speaker 2: if not the Avengers situation happened. But yeah, just the
- 56:41Speaker 2: fact that he's involved in it, he's kind of getting
- 56:44Speaker 2: a pass, at least for me, still wanting to see.
- 56:46Speaker 15: Yeah, I was going to say that and The Raid
- 56:50Speaker 15: Redemption are like my two just.
- 56:52Speaker 2: I've heard really good stuff.
- 56:54Speaker 15: The two movies that I'm just coming out that I'm
- 56:56Speaker 15: just super stoked for. But yeah, I can't geek out
- 57:01Speaker 15: about them yet because I haven't seen them.
- 57:03Speaker 2: Future geeking will take place, but.
- 57:05Speaker 15: But I have been kind of like on the past...
- 57:08Speaker 15: This weekend. Like I was kind of on a... Sort
- 57:10Speaker 15: of a Scandinavian kick. I re-watched like Valhalla Rising for...
- 57:16Speaker 15: Probably the ninth time. Because I love that movie so much.
- 57:21Speaker 15: And I saw Troll Hunter for the first time. I
- 57:23Speaker 15: don't know if any of you guys have seen this.
- 57:24Speaker 15: Going off of, you know, the whole Bigfoot thing.
- 57:29Speaker 2: It was... I thought it was very interesting. The dryness,
- 57:33Speaker 2: the dry humor of.
- 57:35Speaker 15: The main guy who, like, I looked up, apparently he's
- 57:38Speaker 15: like a comedian in Norway.
- 57:40Speaker 2: But he was super serious in this movie, though, but
- 57:43Speaker 2: he just played it straight. But, yeah, I thought it
- 57:45Speaker 2: was a pretty entertaining little.
- 57:47Speaker 6: That sounds kind of right for a comedian in Norway.
- 57:50Speaker 2: It was like, what does Nudge translate?
- 57:53Speaker 6: Does it work like all foreign stand-ups?
- 57:58Speaker 2: In Norway, trolls haunt you. I mean, he plays it
- 58:02Speaker 2: dead serious.
- 58:03Speaker 6: What I think the switch is, like, you know how
- 58:05Speaker 6: whenever you're looking for something, you see everything but that?
- 58:09Speaker 6: I bet the Bigfoot hunters are tripping over trolls.
- 58:14Speaker 2: Get these fucking trolls out of here. Bigfoot.
- 58:17Speaker 6: I've got a troll hunters. It's like big foots in
- 58:20Speaker 6: the way, man.
- 58:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 58:21Speaker 2: And I'm watching. I'm like, these are trolls.
- 58:23Speaker 8: These are giants.
- 58:24Speaker 2: Like they're supposed to fit under bridges, not step over
- 58:27Speaker 2: mountains and shit. They sit on top of pencils. This
- 58:29Speaker 2: is not at all accurate. Damn it.
- 58:31Speaker 1: You can't do the hand thing. I almost just did
- 58:37Speaker 1: this and hoping that the listeners would know what I
- 58:40Speaker 1: was talking about.
- 58:41Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 58:42Speaker 1: With my hands together.
- 58:43Speaker 2: Yes.
- 58:45Speaker 1: That's probably dating me, too.
- 58:47Speaker 2: Yeah. Oh, the 80s. Nobody has those pins.
- 58:49Speaker 10: Are you looking at me?
- 58:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm curious what you were going to talk about.
- 58:54Speaker 2: I saw We Need to Talk About Kevin.
- 58:56Speaker 10: Are you looking at me?
- 58:58Speaker 2: Now you're going back in time.
- 58:59Speaker 20: John C.
- 58:59Speaker 12: Reilly all the way.
- 59:01Speaker 13: I'm sorry. Yeah, I finally rounded out my 2011 viewing
- 59:04Speaker 13: four months into 2012 and saw.
- 59:05Speaker 10: We Need to Talk About Kevin.
- 59:13Speaker 2: Do we need to talk about.
- 59:14Speaker 13: I really needed to talk about we need to talk
- 59:16Speaker 13: about Kevin after I like seeing films by myself and
- 59:19Speaker 13: that usually works out for me occasionally something will be
- 59:22Speaker 13: so disturbing that I need somebody there with me.
- 59:25Speaker 2: The support group that is Movie Meltdown I had a
- 59:29Speaker 2: little lady in the front that kept repeating do you understand.
- 59:33Speaker 16: What's going on she's not the best candidate to discuss
- 59:39Speaker 16: it with in the bathroom um But you did anyway.
- 59:45Speaker 10: Well, she was so cute, I actually did talk to
- 59:47Speaker 10: her about it.
- 59:48Speaker 13: She was totally perplexed by the film. And she said,
- 59:51Speaker 13: the part that I don't understand is, did they ever
- 59:55Speaker 13: talk about heaven?
- 59:59Speaker 2: That was my wife.
- 1:00:01Speaker 6: I remember when she saw an officer and a gentleman
- 1:00:03Speaker 6: after it was over, she said, So Richard Gere was
- 1:00:07Speaker 6: the officer. Who was the gentleman?
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: Deborah Wink.
- 1:00:12Speaker 17: And then I tried to explain to her, I think
- 1:00:20Speaker 17: that was the idea that they didn't talk about him
- 1:00:22Speaker 17: until it was too late.
- 1:00:23Speaker 13: And then I, she just looked at me blankly and
- 1:00:25Speaker 13: it was like, you know, the taxi driver.
- 1:00:28Speaker 11: It's like those signs that say think.
- 1:00:31Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: So you shot her in the head.
- 1:00:33Speaker 6: Oh, sorry.
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: I was taking it a little too far.
- 1:00:38Speaker 13: Yeah, apparently I had not read the book. And the
- 1:00:42Speaker 13: movie is actually really interesting. It confirmed my belief that
- 1:00:46Speaker 13: children are evil. So that was helpful. It's more disturbing
- 1:00:51Speaker 13: than any child as monster film I've ever seen.
- 1:00:54Speaker 10: I mean, it shoots them into hell and everything else.
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: Insidious?
- 1:00:58Speaker 10: Oh, wow.
- 1:00:59Speaker 13: Yeah, it gets under your skin, mostly because the actors,
- 1:01:03Speaker 13: there's three actors that they have playing Kevin, are all
- 1:01:06Speaker 13: so good. And I don't know, I haven't read anything
- 1:01:08Speaker 13: about it. I shouldn't do that before I talk about
- 1:01:10Speaker 13: it publicly.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: Reading's lame. Movies are awesome.
- 1:01:14Speaker 13: This young actor, whoever plays the older Kevin, I feel
- 1:01:17Speaker 13: like he must have studied, I mean, I feel like
- 1:01:19Speaker 13: he must have shot.
- 1:01:20Speaker 10: All the sequences with the kid first, and then.
- 1:01:22Speaker 13: he studied the kid to mimic those mannerisms because it seemed.
- 1:01:27Speaker 10: Like the same kid had aged, and it was so creepy.
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: Maybe they just started this movie a long time ago. Yeah, well.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: We need to talk about the kid who plays Kevin.
- 1:01:40Speaker 13: And also, upping the creepy factor, Tilda Swinton, John C.
- 1:01:44Speaker 10: Reilly, love scene.
- 1:01:46Speaker 6: Dude, you could have stopped it, Tilda Swinton, actually. A
- 1:01:50Speaker 6: little warning.
- 1:01:51Speaker 10: Sorry, I jumped right into that.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: Tilda Swinton solo love scene, still frightening. Yeah, I was
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: going to say.
- 1:01:57Speaker 10: Yeah. But you're talking about the John C. Reilly, funny
- 1:02:01Speaker 10: John C. Reilly, serious John C.
- 1:02:02Speaker 20: Reilly.
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: Nothing funnier than a John C. Reilly.
- 1:02:05Speaker 11: There's a whole scene between funny John C.
- 1:02:08Speaker 6: Reilly and serious John C.
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: Reilly. Oh, my God, that would be amazing. It's so hot. No.
- 1:02:13Speaker 6: No.
- 1:02:15Speaker 13: But what he brings to this, because I was talking
- 1:02:18Speaker 13: to a friend about this, and he was like, I
- 1:02:20Speaker 13: don't know about that casting, not having seen it.
- 1:02:21Speaker 10: And the casting's perfect, because.
- 1:02:23Speaker 13: The character is not fleshed out at all, and you
- 1:02:27Speaker 13: don't have time for him.
- 1:02:28Speaker 10: He just needs to be likable and sad. So John C.
- 1:02:31Speaker 10: Reilly is perfect.
- 1:02:32Speaker 16: You're like, this dad is.
- 1:02:34Speaker 13: So likable and sad, and that's what he brings to it.
- 1:02:39Speaker 6: He can bring that.
- 1:02:41Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:02:43Speaker 13: The movie, for me, I had a lot of problems
- 1:02:44Speaker 13: with it because there was a lot of stuff that
- 1:02:46Speaker 13: I felt wasn't necessarily earned, like a lot of... where
- 1:02:50Speaker 13: you're like, well, that doesn't really make any sense. And
- 1:02:52Speaker 13: I guess it's just because it's a bad adaptation. I
- 1:02:54Speaker 13: guess the book delves into things more, and it felt
- 1:02:58Speaker 13: like a lot of the things didn't feel organic. It
- 1:03:00Speaker 13: was like these setups that were just setups for shock
- 1:03:03Speaker 13: value or whatever that didn't really make sense in terms
- 1:03:05Speaker 13: of character motivations.
- 1:03:07Speaker 10: But interesting, haunting, that's what I got on that one.
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: That's what we have to say about Kevin. We've talked
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: about it.
- 1:03:15Speaker 6: But like Evil Kid.
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: To the max.
- 1:03:18Speaker 10: Evil kid to the max. I mean, amazingly manipulative, like, incredible.
- 1:03:23Speaker 6: Scarier than, like, the average episode of Barney.
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: That's frightening. That is truly.
- 1:03:31Speaker 6: You've never seen the Barney kids? Oh, man, they have
- 1:03:34Speaker 6: to drug them to get them back.
- 1:03:36Speaker 15: When I was a little kid and we went to, like, daycare,
- 1:03:38Speaker 15: they would make us watch that show for punishment.
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: Like, that was punishment. And we were like, please, no,
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: anything but Barney. Our work is done here.
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: My daycare babysitter let us watch Battle of the Planets,
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: and that was the greatest thing ever.
- 1:03:53Speaker 16: Oh, man.
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: I'm not sure that's appropriate, actually. I know, because I
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: was watching it, and I'm messed up now, so that's
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: probably not a good idea.
- 1:04:00Speaker 18: My parents don't know.
- 1:04:04Speaker 11: It's a little late to tell them.
- 1:04:06Speaker 15: I saw a similar movie to that called Joshua a
- 1:04:10Speaker 15: couple years ago.
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: I don't know if any of you all have seen it.
- 1:04:12Speaker 15: It's a very, like, it's the Another, you know, demon
- 1:04:15Speaker 15: child who's like one of the parents is like, I'm
- 1:04:18Speaker 15: on you.
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: And the other one's like, he's fine.
- 1:04:20Speaker 10: And, you know, which is exactly what this is too. Yeah.
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: Yeah. The same Rockwell.
- 1:04:25Speaker 15: And it had that like Dave Matthews theme song, which
- 1:04:27Speaker 15: I actually say, I like that song, like probably 10
- 1:04:30Speaker 15: times more than I actually liked the movie.
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: The movie is okay, but I thought that song was awesome.
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: But that's all I remember from it, really, is just
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: the Dave Matthews songs.
- 1:04:36Speaker 15: I'm like, I hate Dave Matthews, but the song he
- 1:04:39Speaker 15: does for this movie is pretty cool.
- 1:04:41Speaker 10: Yeah, I think she's fantastic. She was in that film,
- 1:04:44Speaker 10: and then she did Orphan. Was that what it was called?
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: Yeah, what does it mean? I like Orphan.
- 1:04:49Speaker 13: I think it was around the time she was doing
- 1:04:51Speaker 13: family planning stuff, because I think she's had a kid
- 1:04:53Speaker 13: since then, and I'm like, that must have really been.
- 1:04:56Speaker 15: Also, I have to say, I don't want to give
- 1:04:57Speaker 15: too much away, but the twist in Orphan, I have
- 1:05:01Speaker 15: to admit, was probably one of the most shocking.
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: Like, oh.
- 1:05:04Speaker 15: Shit, maybe just stand up in the theater and just scream, like.
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: What the fuck? I didn't see it for a while. Like,
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: no other movie has had that. I did not see
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: it coming. People did not ruin it for me and
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: I have to say that moment was pretty awesome. I
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: was just like, this movie is ridiculous and over the
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: top and I love it. I was a little drunk
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: when I saw it too. I think I had to be.
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: I was still on board. It's that crazy. Demon Kids, man.
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: You gotta watch them.
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: Gotta watch them Demon Kids.
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: I think the reason.
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: Why Demon Kid movies work is because at some point
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: all parents think their kid is a demon. Just for
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: even a fleeting moment, they're like, there's something wrong with this.
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: One.
- 1:05:56Speaker 6: Not me, because I was the demon kid. And my
- 1:06:01Speaker 6: parents were always like, you're going to grow up and
- 1:06:04Speaker 6: you're going to have kids that are going to be
- 1:06:05Speaker 6: just like you.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: And I'm like, no.
- 1:06:07Speaker 13: No.
- 1:06:07Speaker 6: I'm not going to, like, I'm not going to get married.
- 1:06:10Speaker 6: I'm not going to have kids. And later I'm like,
- 1:06:13Speaker 6: I'll get married, I guess, whatever. Yeah, okay, we'll have kids.
- 1:06:18Speaker 6: You know, my kids are the most awesome kids that
- 1:06:23Speaker 6: ever existed. I would have had kids a long time
- 1:06:26Speaker 6: before if I knew I was going to get this deal.
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: If you could pick those specific kids out.
- 1:06:31Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, and they say you can't be friends
- 1:06:34Speaker 6: with your kids. You have to be their parents.
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: Well, I'm not.
- 1:06:37Speaker 6: Given them any favoritism.
- 1:06:38Speaker 11: If they were assholes, I wouldn't.
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: Be friends with them.
- 1:06:41Speaker 6: I'm just friends with them because I get along with them.
- 1:06:46Speaker 6: But what I think is the evil gene skips a generation,
- 1:06:50Speaker 6: so their kids are going to be nightmares.
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: My daughter is just about perfect in every way. I
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: just love having even conversations with her, and she's only
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: in second grade. But the first three months of her life,
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: if she wasn't Asleep, she was screaming. It was so
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: bad that in the nursery at the hospital, after we'd
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: been through hours of labor, they brought her back. They said,
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: we'll take her for a while so you can get
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: some sleep. They brought her back to us and said,
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: you have to take her. We can't calm her down.
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: Family members couldn't keep her. It was just nonstop screaming.
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: We lived in an apartment and people complained daily. thinking
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: we were hurting our kid, could go nowhere, and we
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: were not getting any sleep. It was eight hours a
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: day of straight screaming.
- 1:07:41Speaker 10: I'm glad this film was not made then, and.
- 1:07:43Speaker 6: You didn't see it.
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: That's sort of the beginning of it.
- 1:07:47Speaker 13: And then the way the mom reacts to things, then
- 1:07:48Speaker 13: when the kid does turn out to be truly, truly evil,
- 1:07:51Speaker 13: then she questions her role in that, and is it nature,
- 1:07:55Speaker 13: is it nurture, is it both, and they're both my fault?
- 1:07:57Speaker 13: And that sort of dynamic, I think, takes it to
- 1:08:00Speaker 13: a level that most of those films don't.
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: I almost went and got fixed.
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: Your poor son. No, it's funny.
- 1:08:08Speaker 6: I was a terrible kid, but I was really quiet.
- 1:08:11Speaker 6: My mom said I'd be a baby, I'd never cry,
- 1:08:13Speaker 6: and then she'd go to feed me and I'd be starving.
- 1:08:16Speaker 6: And I just wouldn't, you know, I didn't speak up.
- 1:08:20Speaker 6: But I was a terrible kid in the sense of
- 1:08:22Speaker 6: I always felt like I had my own agenda. I
- 1:08:25Speaker 6: couldn't believe I was expected to get up in the
- 1:08:28Speaker 6: morning and go to school. I don't have things to do.
- 1:08:31Speaker 6: I wasn't mean or anything, but I was insane.
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: I like the meanness sometimes. That's what sells me on
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: kids a little bit. Just today, I was over with
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: my niece and nephew. My niece will give you the look. Oh,
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: my God. I have never seen such a pissed look
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: come out of a person and she's like just turned
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: three yeah and i was sitting across the room and
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: she just fired it at somebody and i was like
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: oh i like that kid oh look at that that
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: is pure evil I was like oh I like her
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: she's a good one I'm hanging on to this kid
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: if you guys don't want her I'm taking this kid
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: she's cool.
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: That would be a great sitcom if Brian I can't imagine.
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: Just a sitcom about a demon child.
- 1:09:24Speaker 16: Really?
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: Like they're joking about it? Like, what can you do?
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: That's a good one. Yeah, but the parent just sort
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: of comes to terms with it. Well, it's kind of
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: like Deckard.
- 1:09:34Speaker 15: The door busts open like it's Kramer, but it's just
- 1:09:36Speaker 15: the kid standing there like he made it open with
- 1:09:38Speaker 15: his mind.
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: And just like staring at him.
- 1:09:40Speaker 11: It's me.
- 1:09:41Speaker 6: That's not a bad idea. I think it may be
- 1:09:44Speaker 6: the cultural moment for a sitcom about the demon child.
- 1:09:48Speaker 20: Yeah.
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: I'm telling you, that's the early stages of Dexter. You've
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: got to teach, you've got to guide the kid on
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: how to use its evil for the best possible purpose
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: that you can come up with. Or your own agenda,
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: which would be mine. This is probably going to be
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: evidence later.
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: Won't it?
- 1:10:07Speaker 14: Oh, well.
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: Anyway.
- 1:10:09Speaker 16: All of these episodes are going to be used in
- 1:10:11Speaker 16: court against you at some point.
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: Awesome. Somebody will be listening to the podcast you did.
- 1:10:16Speaker 17: Hundreds of hours of evidence.
- 1:10:20Speaker 18: Yes.
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: This is all going for something useful. Kind of amazing.
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: As long as it goes on.
- 1:10:27Speaker 6: I remember a conversation my parents had. My dad said
- 1:10:31Speaker 6: that if he wanted to commit a murder and confess
- 1:10:36Speaker 6: it He would write it on the book page of
- 1:10:40Speaker 6: our hometown newspaper. Just write out exactly what he did.
- 1:10:44Speaker 11: Because nobody would ever know. And then my mother sort of.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: Literary jokes. Yeah.
- 1:10:52Speaker 6: And my mother said, but why would you confess it?
- 1:10:55Speaker 6: What would be the point? And he's, yeah, never mind.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: It's like, you're right.
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: There would be no point.
- 1:11:04Speaker 6: I guess I won't do that.
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: And then mom jokes.
- 1:11:07Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: Never mind. You don't get anything.
- 1:11:10Speaker 6: God.
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: What do you got ruined?
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: You're still in core, Mom.
- 1:11:15Speaker 6: Oh, man, those Barney kids. I had some theory about, like,
- 1:11:22Speaker 6: they mated them to create, I don't know, some other
- 1:11:26Speaker 6: scary young people. But, you know, I mentioned I watched
- 1:11:32Speaker 6: the I've already mentioned the Bugsy Malone movie, but I
- 1:11:35Speaker 6: want to plug it just a little bit more.
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: Are you getting money from them?
- 1:11:40Speaker 6: Just when you think it can't be any creepier, I
- 1:11:44Speaker 6: just looked it up and noticed the music was done
- 1:11:46Speaker 6: by Paul Williams. I don't know if you remember Paul Williams.
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: I remember the name.
- 1:11:52Speaker 6: Yeah, he's kind of like an evil child in a way. But, yeah,
- 1:11:58Speaker 6: I was wondering who wrote.
- 1:12:01Speaker 11: Music.
- 1:12:02Speaker 6: It's Paul Williams. There you go.
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:12:07Speaker 6: Super creep fest. Definitely.
- 1:12:12Speaker 10: Did he die tragically?
- 1:12:14Speaker 6: Let me see.
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: Are you wishing it upon him if not?
- 1:12:21Speaker 6: Or did he choke on a sandwich or something? No,
- 1:12:24Speaker 6: that was Mama Cass.
- 1:12:26Speaker 18: No, I just.
- 1:12:27Speaker 10: Made that up.
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: Did you? Probably.
- 1:12:31Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: It's always more interesting.
- 1:12:34Speaker 6: Let's see if they have, like, death. If that comes up.
- 1:12:39Speaker 6: Personal life. They have no.
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: Still alive.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: Yeah. If you can picture it, just a Wikipedia page scrolling.
- 1:12:49Speaker 13: You can.
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: Fascinating. See if you can beat that.
- 1:12:53Speaker 6: No, nothing about any spectacular death. Made that up. You know,
- 1:12:59Speaker 6: if you're going to make something up, you should really
- 1:13:01Speaker 6: go for it.
- 1:13:02Speaker 10: It would involve an elevator shaft.
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: Yeah. So he died on a soap opera? Wow, I
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: did not know that.
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: Thanks, Wikipedia.
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: You're always right. Just edit it in. Just make it real.
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: All right, so before we go out on a Paul
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: Williams song, is there a specific one you want to,
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: by the way?
- 1:13:23Speaker 6: Oh, didn't he do something for Helen Reddy that Oh,
- 1:13:28Speaker 6: he did Three Dog Nights' old-fashioned love song. Greg, would
- 1:13:31Speaker 6: you like to... No, I can.
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: Probably sing to Helen Reyes. I don't know if I'd
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: admit to that. I told you I used to sit
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: in my parents' music room and listen to Helen Reyes'
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: records right after I listened to Bee Gees.
- 1:13:42Speaker 6: We've Only Just Begun for the Carpenters. No, that isn't... Oh,
- 1:13:46Speaker 6: Rainy Days and Mondays.
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: See, that's a good song. I like their depressing tone.
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: I'm on board with that.
- 1:13:53Speaker 9: Oh, fuck.
- 1:13:54Speaker 6: He wrote The Rainbow Connection.
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: Okay, well, you've got to give him credit for that.
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 1:14:00Speaker 6: Yeah, he wrote The Rainbow Connection, which, oh, that guy
- 1:14:04Speaker 6: Andy did on The Office, a banjo rendition, on bad
- 1:14:09Speaker 6: advice to impress Pam.
- 1:14:11Speaker 11: Can you sing in a sexy high falsetto?
- 1:14:15Speaker 6: And he sang that song. Oh, and what I was
- 1:14:18Speaker 6: going to say about the movie Bugsy Malone is Angela
- 1:14:22Speaker 6: on The Office is I kind of get the sense
- 1:14:24Speaker 6: it would be her favorite movie. Because she likes those
- 1:14:30Speaker 6: posters with cats dressed as people, and just there's a
- 1:14:34Speaker 6: whole creepiness to why somebody thought this was going to
- 1:14:38Speaker 6: be really entertaining. Let's dress kids up as gangsters and
- 1:14:44Speaker 6: set them.
- 1:14:45Speaker 5: And they just keep doing it for like more than
- 1:14:48Speaker 5: a couple hours.
- 1:14:49Speaker 11: And nobody questions this.
- 1:14:51Speaker 6: The only thing I can compare it to is one day,
- 1:14:55Speaker 6: you know, I studied art in college. I did art history.
- 1:14:58Speaker 6: I saw the flying babies.
- 1:15:00Speaker 11: I saw the pootie.
- 1:15:02Speaker 14: One day I suddenly thought, what the fuck is that about?
- 1:15:07Speaker 14: Why are there flying babies in all these fucking pictures?
- 1:15:11Speaker 14: They're not even wearing diapers.
- 1:15:14Speaker 11: And I like babies. I really like babies.
- 1:15:17Speaker 6: You know, I see a baby on the street. I
- 1:15:19Speaker 6: smile at it. We connect.
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: Why is that baby on the street?
- 1:15:24Speaker 6: If a baby came, one of those flying babies comes
- 1:15:28Speaker 6: at me, I'd be swatting it, man.
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: Here's another round of those flying babies.
- 1:15:33Speaker 6: And these things were in pictures for centuries and people
- 1:15:36Speaker 6: just accepted it.
- 1:15:37Speaker 11: Like, yeah, the flying babies.
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: You know. Flying babies. Oh, God. Business as usual.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: Anybody seen the Portlandia where they have the scene where
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: it's put a bird on it?
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Put a bird on it. That was great.
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: Put a flying baby on it.
- 1:15:57Speaker 6: I like Portlandia more than I expected to.
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I.
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: I had way too much. My wife was like, you know,
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: once you've made the first joke about, you know, I
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: think the first scene from the first episode is the
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: dream of the 90s of Portland.
- 1:16:16Speaker 6: Still alive.
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: And that kind of sets up the whole series. Like,
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: we're just going to elaborate on that. I think she
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: was like, the joke's done. And they're just beating that
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: man over.
- 1:16:28Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:16:31Speaker 5: I don't know they keep finding interesting ways to beat
- 1:16:34Speaker 5: that dead horse that's kind of what I like because
- 1:16:37Speaker 5: some people don't like the kind of joke that like
- 1:16:39Speaker 5: you just keep saying and it's not really that funny
- 1:16:43Speaker 5: but once you get to that 10,000th time suddenly it's
- 1:16:48Speaker 5: really funny and I don't know it's kind of in
- 1:16:51Speaker 5: that vein and I really like Carrie Brownstein something about
- 1:16:56Speaker 5: her I really like and.
- 1:16:58Speaker 6: I think she's hot.
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: Too The Amy Mann episode.
- 1:17:04Speaker 11: Oh, that was my favorite one.
- 1:17:06Speaker 6: When they find out Amy Mann is their maid.
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: That's what happened.
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: They're both praising her and ridiculing her at the same time.
- 1:17:15Speaker 11: Yeah, they're like, oh, we're big fans.
- 1:17:17Speaker 6: I think that's our cleaning lady. I think that's Amy Mann.
- 1:17:22Speaker 9: No, it is.
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: It's Amy Mann.
- 1:17:23Speaker 6: Well, you know, the music industry, everything's really messed up.
- 1:17:26Speaker 14: I don't know.
- 1:17:27Speaker 6: And so they go like, Amy. And she looks around,
- 1:17:31Speaker 6: she's like, yeah, what? And so.
- 1:17:36Speaker 11: They go, we're huge fans.
- 1:17:38Speaker 6: Oh, I can't believe, I really love your, and I'm
- 1:17:41Speaker 6: sorry I downloaded your last four CDs and copied them
- 1:17:45Speaker 6: for all my friends. Well, okay, you know. They're like,
- 1:17:49Speaker 6: you know, the stove, you really, well yeah some of
- 1:17:53Speaker 6: that it's like well some of that it looks like
- 1:17:57Speaker 6: dirt but it's not really dirt no it is dirt
- 1:17:59Speaker 6: you really have to you have to get up on
- 1:18:01Speaker 6: it to scrub it hard enough to get that off
- 1:18:04Speaker 6: but don't overdo it because we don't want you know
- 1:18:08Speaker 6: we don't want to the soap yeah it's acidic but
- 1:18:12Speaker 6: you'll do great you'll do you'll do fine whatever.
- 1:18:14Speaker 11: You do it's good Oh, man, that's genius. It's super awkward.
- 1:18:19Speaker 15: I love it just when people like that, insulting people,
- 1:18:22Speaker 15: but somehow being nice to them at the same time.
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: That's hilarious.
- 1:18:25Speaker 15: That was what was with the Christian Bale rant. That's
- 1:18:30Speaker 15: what I thought was so funny because in between he
- 1:18:32Speaker 15: was just like, you're a nice guy, you're a nice guy, but.
- 1:18:35Speaker 6: I'm going to get the shit out of you.
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: But you're a nice guy.
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: He's like yelling at you. You're a nice guy. I
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: like you. I like you. But we're done. Thank you.
- 1:18:48Speaker 6: You're dead to me.
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: But you're a good guy. That's hilarious to me.
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: Yeah, that show, I don't even know how I got there,
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: but I really appreciate that show.
- 1:18:58Speaker 6: Yeah, my sister sent that to me. She's like, I
- 1:19:03Speaker 6: don't know if you've seen this. And I had seen
- 1:19:04Speaker 6: it on my Netflix forever. I don't know. I'm not
- 1:19:10Speaker 6: going to watch that. Everything else she sends me is documentaries.
- 1:19:15Speaker 6: My sister, she doesn't believe in fiction. It's like Santa Claus.
- 1:19:22Speaker 6: She sends me all these documentaries and sometimes I find
- 1:19:25Speaker 6: myself reading the description on them and imagining what sort
- 1:19:31Speaker 6: of pompous asshole I'll be after I watch it. It's like, okay.
- 1:19:37Speaker 6: I was looking at the one, it's a documentary called Helvetica.
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: Yes. Oh, yeah. I had to watch that for a class.
- 1:19:44Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:19:46Speaker 6: As God is my witness, I will never take the
- 1:19:49Speaker 6: font Helvetica for granted again. You know, that's what this
- 1:19:54Speaker 6: is going to take me.
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: It's interesting. You're like, wow. For like the first 15 minutes,
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: you're like, okay, I'm done with this. You've worn out
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: your welcome. Yeah.
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:20:07Speaker 15: I thought the most interesting part of that movie was
- 1:20:08Speaker 15: not even in the movie at all. It was like
- 1:20:10Speaker 15: a deleted scene on the DVD extra. It was the guy,
- 1:20:12Speaker 15: it was the German guy. I guess he was the
- 1:20:15Speaker 15: co-creator of it. And he was just basically, it was
- 1:20:18Speaker 15: just him just ranting about how he hated Microsoft. How
- 1:20:22Speaker 15: like they, you know, they hire these people, they hire
- 1:20:24Speaker 15: these people, you know, just to save money, to have
- 1:20:27Speaker 15: a font that was very similar to Health Etica, like
- 1:20:29Speaker 15: basically copying it.
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: And he's just like, they're just evil guys. He's just ranting.
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: I was just like, that was the most interesting.
- 1:20:34Speaker 15: Just seeing him be so impassioned and enraged over a font.
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: I was like, wow. That's kind of amazing.
- 1:20:43Speaker 6: And then he kept telling Bill Gates, but you're a
- 1:20:45Speaker 6: nice guy.
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: But you're evil, man. But we're through. Done with you, Gates.
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: We're done professionally, man.
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: You'll never work in this town. Do you need a reference?
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: That audio is like three years old. I can still
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: joke about it. It's timeless. Philip Seymour Hoffman doing one
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: of those.
- 1:21:09Speaker 15: That would be epic. He's a good screamer. I can
- 1:21:13Speaker 15: see him just flipping out on Seymour. At his whole
- 1:21:16Speaker 15: table full of coffee mates. Alright, are we ready to
- 1:21:21Speaker 15: round this thing out?
- 1:21:24Speaker 13: I think so.
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I think we better. Otherwise, that about does it.
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: We will return next week. Same geek time, same geek feed.
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: Thanks for listening.
- 1:21:31Speaker 16: Oh, Debbie!
- 1:21:32Speaker 8: Oh, yeah, Kermit.
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: Hey, what's this I hear about you wanting to do
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: a rainbow song? Oh, yeah, well, I just dig songs
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: about rainbows.
- 1:21:39Speaker 16: Oh, good.
- 1:21:40Speaker 10: I sent you a list.
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I got the list. Somewhere over the rainbow, and
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: I'm always chasing rainbows.
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: Well, yeah, which one should I do?
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: Well, you left out one rainbow song.
