- 0:15Speaker 2: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota.com.
- 0:21Speaker 1: What are you pointing at?
- 0:23Speaker 3: Paul Poe on TV.
- 0:25Speaker 4: They didn't let you talk a lot yesterday. It had
- 0:28Speaker 4: nothing to do with lead.
- 0:29Speaker 5: That was tough.
- 0:31Speaker 2: So let's start with Herm and DC.
- 0:35Speaker 4: What's up, Herm?
- 0:36Speaker 5: Oh, come on. I didn't make you wait that long.
- 0:38Speaker 5: All right, you're done.
- 0:39Speaker 4: I don't think they're hiding any of their tricks. I
- 0:41Speaker 4: think they're out there in plain sight.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Yeah, we've seen them.
- 0:44Speaker 4: I was going to ask Evan when he was in
- 0:45Speaker 4: the middle of that, but I kind of zoned out.
- 0:48Speaker 4: What do you mean?
- 0:49Speaker 5: Easy, easy.
- 0:50Speaker 1: It's not even here.
- 0:52Speaker 4: And this is a truly astounding record for the ball knower.
- 0:55Speaker 4: Three full weeks into the season, he's 21-27. Because he
- 0:59Speaker 4: uses stats.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:00Speaker 4: With the spread, Paul also leads that 27-21.
- 1:03Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:08Speaker 4: Talking in third person.
- 1:09Speaker 2: But I'll pick the Jets to cover that. It's an
- 1:12Speaker 2: empty carcass pick for me.
- 1:14Speaker 4: What does that mean? I was thinking the same thing.
- 1:18Speaker 4: This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Presented by Toyota.com. Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:25Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:25Speaker 5: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. We're all smiles today, baby. Big win.
- 1:31Speaker 5: Big win. Boy, what a difference a week makes.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Yeah, we're back.
- 1:34Speaker 5: Oh, my God.
- 1:35Speaker 2: What a difference a quarterback makes. What a difference, I
- 1:39Speaker 2: don't know, a certain wide receiver makes. It's just going
- 1:42Speaker 2: to be a great week.
- 1:43Speaker 4: Death taxes and Mike Vrabel as a touchdown underdog, man.
- 1:46Speaker 5: There you go. No, he's good at that, huh?
- 1:49Speaker 4: Something like 10 and 8 outright when 6-point underdog or more.
- 1:54Speaker 2: He knows how to motivate those guys. All right, we're
- 1:56Speaker 2: going to talk about it all.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Is Evan here?
- 1:58Speaker 4: He's coming back. You've got to let Alex out.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Alex can't go through the building alone.
- 2:02Speaker 7: Well, I don't.
- 2:03Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, all the people that stop him for
- 2:04Speaker 5: autographs and pictures.
- 2:06Speaker 4: Correct. Especially this week, Alex is getting his flowers with
- 2:08Speaker 4: his Bill's Josh Allen hate.
- 2:10Speaker 5: That's true.
- 2:12Speaker 4: He's smelling his farts, as you like to say.
- 2:14Speaker 5: He really is.
- 2:15Speaker 1: He told you he's not good, Paul.
- 2:16Speaker 4: He did, and I didn't listen. He was right.
- 2:19Speaker 1: All right.
- 2:20Speaker 5: So, it's Paul. It's Deuce. It's me. It's going to
- 2:24Speaker 5: be Evan. It's Matt in the booth.
- 2:26Speaker 2: We're talking Patriots-Bills wrapping up this game because this is
- 2:29Speaker 2: the first time we've other than the postgame show, had
- 2:32Speaker 2: talked about it with all of you.
- 2:35Speaker 5: So I don't know where to start.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Just a really solid performance all around. I was joking
- 2:42Speaker 4: around off the top, but it does start with Mike Grable,
- 2:45Speaker 4: I think. He does a great job of motivating a
- 2:48Speaker 4: team when it's sort of the back gets up against
- 2:52Speaker 4: the wall and there's a lot of doubt. So that
- 2:54Speaker 4: was where it started, but you know, I talked all
- 2:57Speaker 4: last week. We can talk about all these different schemes
- 2:59Speaker 4: and all these X's and O's and all the game
- 3:02Speaker 4: plan oriented stuff, but none of it really matters if
- 3:04Speaker 4: Drake May continues to play the way he did the
- 3:06Speaker 4: first three weeks. He finally resembled the guy that we
- 3:09Speaker 4: saw in 2025. I say finally, a month into the season.
- 3:13Speaker 4: It's not like they had to endure the years and
- 3:15Speaker 4: years of hardship, but he was really good in the
- 3:18Speaker 4: game and that was the difference. To me, the.
- 3:22Speaker 5: The defense is also a story. Defense played well.
- 3:26Speaker 2: They played a real disciplined game, controlled pass rush with Allen.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Even when they did flush him out of the pocket,
- 3:35Speaker 2: they made sure that he didn't have– I think his
- 3:37Speaker 2: longest run was four yards. So I thought it was
- 3:41Speaker 2: a really controlled, well-played, disciplined game by the defense. But
- 3:46Speaker 2: getting back to what you said, Paul, about Drake May,
- 3:49Speaker 2: we're going to talk about why the turnaround. What happened
- 3:52Speaker 2: between last week and this week that allowed him to
- 3:55Speaker 2: play the way he did?
- 3:56Speaker 5: And I know Evan's going to break it down. Oh,
- 3:57Speaker 5: it was this motion. It was this scheme.
- 3:59Speaker 1: It was that.
- 4:01Speaker 5: I'm sure that had something to do with it.
- 4:02Speaker 2: But to me, it had to be the week of
- 4:06Speaker 2: practice and the support that he got, starting with Vrabel
- 4:09Speaker 2: but from his teammates. Because if you go into– if
- 4:14Speaker 2: you went out of the last game saying this is
- 4:16Speaker 2: a mental thing with him, you can't go into this
- 4:19Speaker 2: game and not say a mental thing had to do
- 4:23Speaker 2: with the turnaround. You can't just say, oh, it was
- 4:25Speaker 2: the scheme. Because the mental stuff was still there. So
- 4:29Speaker 2: something had to help his mentals, as Marshawn Lynch would say,
- 4:36Speaker 2: to get to that space where he could perform the
- 4:40Speaker 2: way he did.
- 4:41Speaker 3: It's an interesting observation because I think The biggest takeaway
- 4:44Speaker 3: I had was just that it wasn't perfect, and he
- 4:46Speaker 3: had some mistakes, and he dropped the snap, and those
- 4:49Speaker 3: problems and clunkiness still showed up, but he all of
- 4:52Speaker 3: a sudden seemed to have the confidence.
- 4:54Speaker 5: It didn't snowball.
- 4:55Speaker 7: Right.
- 4:56Speaker 3: The confidence to ignore that play and continue fighting, because
- 5:00Speaker 3: that's what these games with Josh Allen usually come down to.
- 5:03Speaker 3: It's a back and forth, so I'm not sure where
- 5:05Speaker 3: he got it. Maybe in practice, but to have... fumbles,
- 5:09Speaker 3: drops snaps, an interception's not really your fault, you lose
- 5:13Speaker 3: your favorite receiver again in the game, and he just
- 5:16Speaker 3: kept playing. And if he continues to do that, then
- 5:19Speaker 3: to Paul's point, they can get back to the kind
- 5:21Speaker 3: of team they were last year.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Yeah, and that was what stood out to me. Mike
- 5:25Speaker 4: and I were here watching the game, Fred, and a
- 5:28Speaker 4: couple of times you were like, uh-oh, is this going
- 5:30Speaker 4: to be one of those turning points in the game
- 5:33Speaker 4: where the adversity comes and it snowballs? But every time
- 5:36Speaker 4: they had something bad happen... They generally had an answer
- 5:39Speaker 4: for it, and Drake was usually the guy who had
- 5:41Speaker 4: the answer for it. The biggest thing for me? His legs.
- 5:44Speaker 4: I mean, we could talk about him stepping into throws.
- 5:46Speaker 4: I agree. We could talk about some of his receivers
- 5:49Speaker 4: making plays for him that we hadn't really seen. Dobbs, Chisholm,
- 5:53Speaker 4: you know, I agree. Hunter Henry was a bigger part
- 5:55Speaker 4: of this game than he's been the first three weeks.
- 5:57Speaker 4: I agree. But his ability to get out and make...
- 6:01Speaker 4: you know, those easy yards that back break, you know,
- 6:04Speaker 4: the defense. And, you know, second play of the game,
- 6:07Speaker 4: they backed up on their own three-yard line, and he's
- 6:09Speaker 4: coming out of his end zone. He's flushed out of
- 6:12Speaker 4: the pocket. He scoots away, you know, gets, I don't know,
- 6:15Speaker 4: 15 or so yards, you know, for a first down.
- 6:17Speaker 4: I thought he was running free and easy. I think
- 6:19Speaker 4: that's when he's at his best. When he's moving around,
- 6:22Speaker 4: he's kind of feeling it. You know, I said last week,
- 6:25Speaker 4: you got to try to hit him early if you're
- 6:26Speaker 4: the opponent, and it kind of gets him off his game. Well,
- 6:29Speaker 4: I think Those kinds of scrambles get him on his game.
- 6:33Speaker 4: And I think he was sharp, really, for 60 minutes.
- 6:35Speaker 3: And contrast that with Josh Allen, who didn't have those
- 6:38Speaker 3: plays and didn't feel on his game. And, you know,
- 6:40Speaker 3: we speculated why. And, you know, it all seems kind
- 6:43Speaker 3: of connected. But I totally agree with Paul. Those scrambles
- 6:46Speaker 3: were a huge play. It was a huge part of
- 6:47Speaker 3: things last year. And somehow that got his confidence going.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Didn't really have a run game again. I mean, you know,
- 6:53Speaker 3: just kind of had to squeeze it out.
- 6:55Speaker 4: Okay, just okay. But he was the run game, you know.
- 6:57Speaker 4: 54 yards, I think he ended up with. And, you know,
- 7:01Speaker 4: I do wonder if just kind of making some plays,
- 7:05Speaker 4: you know, moving the chains by himself. And then, you know,
- 7:08Speaker 4: back to Vrabel, they obviously knew they were going to
- 7:11Speaker 4: need points against Josh Allen. Mike said it again on Monday.
- 7:14Speaker 4: You know, Mike Dussault and I were at the press conference,
- 7:16Speaker 4: and he reiterated it. We know who we're playing. We
- 7:19Speaker 4: know we need points. So they're going for fourth downs,
- 7:22Speaker 4: and they're converting the fourth downs again. So that's more
- 7:24Speaker 4: confidence for Drake May in the offense. It was by
- 7:27Speaker 4: far the offense's best performance. But not to overshadow the defense,
- 7:31Speaker 4: because I thought the defense was good, too.
- 7:33Speaker 3: Yeah, especially the guys they were missing. I mean, that
- 7:35Speaker 3: was not have Barmore, not have Gonzalez. We kept pointing
- 7:39Speaker 3: out in our rap shows just the coverage. It just
- 7:41Speaker 3: seemed like Josh Allen. Didn't know what he was seeing.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I don't want to say didn't know, but just didn't
- 7:45Speaker 1: like what he was seeing and going through his reads.
- 7:47Speaker 4: He was very rarely able to get on his back
- 7:49Speaker 4: foot and throw the ball to the first thing that
- 7:51Speaker 4: he wanted to throw the ball to. He quite frequently
- 7:53Speaker 4: was forced to pump and look for something else. Now
- 7:56Speaker 4: he's still great, so he found a way to put
- 7:58Speaker 4: 26 points on the board anyway. on what I would
- 8:02Speaker 4: say was a bad day for Buffalo in their offense.
- 8:04Speaker 4: I don't think they ever really looked good. I think
- 8:06Speaker 4: the Patriots' defense played better than the Buffalo offense the
- 8:09Speaker 4: whole day. And then you look up and they still
- 8:10Speaker 4: got 26.
- 8:11Speaker 2: I think it started with good coverage. I mean, like
- 8:14Speaker 2: you said, his force free wasn't there. And then when
- 8:18Speaker 2: he did take off, they... He didn't take off.
- 8:21Speaker 4: Not a single time in the game.
- 8:24Speaker 5: When he had to leave the pocket, they had the edges,
- 8:28Speaker 5: you know... you know, spoken for.
- 8:30Speaker 4: So all the runs were, were sneaks. They had one
- 8:33Speaker 4: designed run that ended up losing three yards, I believe,
- 8:36Speaker 4: but everything else was a quarterback sneak. And I, you know,
- 8:41Speaker 4: whether the Patriots defense gets the credit for that or
- 8:44Speaker 4: Josh Allen gets the blame for not doing more of that, whatever,
- 8:47Speaker 4: whatever the reason. I tried to, to ask my Grable
- 8:51Speaker 4: about that yesterday at the press conference. And you just,
- 8:53Speaker 4: that's what Fred said. It's just, It's good, disciplined front
- 8:56Speaker 4: seven defense.
- 8:57Speaker 1: I just want to shout out, too, the starts to
- 8:59Speaker 1: the two halves.
- 9:00Speaker 3: I mean, I thought come out and force a three
- 9:02Speaker 3: and out, a 97-yard touchdown drive, and then I didn't
- 9:05Speaker 3: think going into the half wasn't great again, but coming
- 9:08Speaker 3: out of the half, you get the ball, you have
- 9:10Speaker 3: a chance, you go right down and score again. I
- 9:12Speaker 3: thought those were two things that seemed like they had
- 9:14Speaker 3: the guys locked in, they knew what they wanted to do,
- 9:17Speaker 3: they had a good plan. Josh had a play sheet
- 9:19Speaker 3: that they felt good about. Some of it breaks down
- 9:22Speaker 3: in Drake. picks him up with his legs, but just
- 9:25Speaker 3: that kind of performance on the road. They've had three
- 9:28Speaker 3: tough road games now. They're starting to get that sense
- 9:31Speaker 3: a little bit about them. It was a hostile environment.
- 9:34Speaker 3: We've got to talk about the new stadium there.
- 9:38Speaker 2: They went from 70,000 seats down to 60,000 seats, but
- 9:42Speaker 2: the way they configured the new stadium, you wouldn't know it.
- 9:45Speaker 5: It's more closed in. It's steeper. It's like a coliseum.
- 9:50Speaker 2: You're really surrounded, much like Kansas City, where the top
- 9:56Speaker 2: row is high up there, but it's looking down on
- 10:00Speaker 2: it it's not out like you would see in New
- 10:02Speaker 2: Orleans for example that stadium goes way deep this is
- 10:06Speaker 2: high up and then they have the overhang that extends
- 10:12Speaker 2: pretty much over to the sideline doesn't cover the field
- 10:15Speaker 2: but it does cover the sideline so you know, the
- 10:18Speaker 2: way they say, the sound is supposed to bounce up
- 10:21Speaker 2: and then back in.
- 10:22Speaker 5: And it was pretty darn loud.
- 10:24Speaker 2: They had the little transom windows in the press box,
- 10:27Speaker 2: which is a nice little feature, and they had those
- 10:29Speaker 2: open so we could hear the noise from outside.
- 10:32Speaker 5: It was pretty loud.
- 10:33Speaker 2: So it was a hostile environment.
- 10:35Speaker 4: That would annoy me.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Did you feel them getting agitated, the Bills fans, as
- 10:39Speaker 1: the game went on?
- 10:39Speaker 5: Well, listen, you know, all this talk about Bills fans,
- 10:42Speaker 5: they're the best fans, blah, blah, blah. Boy, they give
- 10:45Speaker 5: up easy. Boy, they give up easy.
- 10:48Speaker 4: Well they're used to it even at the end when
- 10:51Speaker 4: it was still a game i mean the bills had
- 10:53Speaker 4: three people were heading to the parking lots oh my
- 10:56Speaker 4: god i mean oh after the pick yeah yeah that's game.
- 10:59Speaker 5: No no not after the pick before that.
- 11:02Speaker 4: Oh before josh allen threw the pick they were heading
- 11:04Speaker 4: to the parking lot they were now that's just poor.
- 11:06Speaker 2: To me silly they were i was i was looking
- 11:08Speaker 2: at something what's going on here uh you know so
- 11:12Speaker 2: and uh I think they might even mention it on
- 11:14Speaker 2: the broadcast. I'm like, oh, fans are leaving a little earlier.
- 11:16Speaker 2: I forget where I heard that. It might have been
- 11:18Speaker 2: just somebody mentioning it in the press box. But, yeah,
- 11:22Speaker 2: I was surprised. Like, they were pissed off.
- 11:25Speaker 4: They should be.
- 11:26Speaker 1: They should be.
- 11:28Speaker 4: That's the kind of game that they consistently lose.
- 11:30Speaker 5: Well, but it's also the kind of game that they
- 11:32Speaker 5: come back and win.
- 11:34Speaker 4: No, I'm not talking about being close. I'm saying, like,
- 11:38Speaker 4: It's the same exact spot they were in last year.
- 11:40Speaker 4: We have a chance to put a foot on their
- 11:42Speaker 4: throat and have a three-game lead and end the division
- 11:44Speaker 4: here in September, early October. And they lose.
- 11:47Speaker 5: I think the fans were embarrassed to lose to us.
- 11:50Speaker 4: They should have been. There's a game that the Bills
- 11:53Speaker 4: are a touchdown favorite. The Patriots come in all banged up.
- 11:57Speaker 5: Put them away.
- 11:58Speaker 4: That's a bad performance if you're a Buffalo. I understand
- 12:00Speaker 4: why they were upset. But, again, normally, I mean, I
- 12:05Speaker 4: wouldn't say normally. There are times where you and I
- 12:07Speaker 4: argue because I'll tell you, no, that was Buffalo played bad.
- 12:10Speaker 4: And you'll say, well, your Patriots get no credit. I
- 12:12Speaker 4: give the Patriots all the credit in this one because
- 12:14Speaker 4: the Patriots played well in the game. They weren't perfect,
- 12:18Speaker 4: but they played well, and they played better than Buffalo
- 12:21Speaker 4: the whole game. And only because Buffalo was good were
- 12:24Speaker 4: they still in the game.
- 12:26Speaker 2: To play as bad as the Patriots played the week
- 12:29Speaker 2: before and to expect them to play perfect this week
- 12:32Speaker 2: I think is unrealistic. I think what we saw was
- 12:35Speaker 2: really good in that, like you guys said, a lot
- 12:38Speaker 2: of mistakes.
- 12:39Speaker 5: It was sloppy.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Turnovers and possibly other that should have been turnovers.
- 12:46Speaker 8: But.
- 12:48Speaker 2: the discipline was there on both offense and defense that
- 12:51Speaker 2: we didn't see last week. And I think last week
- 12:54Speaker 2: they obviously quit, you know, like the defense lost hope,
- 12:58Speaker 2: all hope.
- 12:58Speaker 5: And like the end of that game was just a mess.
- 13:01Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 13:02Speaker 5: There was no quit in this game, even when it
- 13:04Speaker 5: looked like, Oh, here come the bills.
- 13:06Speaker 9: Right.
- 13:06Speaker 2: You know, and they took the lead and, um, you know, they,
- 13:10Speaker 2: they stuck to their rules. They stuck to their discipline. Uh,
- 13:14Speaker 2: Drake may, uh, you know, could have turtled, had reason to,
- 13:19Speaker 2: but didn't. So I just think that the mindset going
- 13:23Speaker 2: into this game stuck throughout the game, and, you know,
- 13:28Speaker 2: the good guys won.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Yeah, it's remarkable how Drake just looked better this week,
- 13:31Speaker 3: you know, and that's one of the funny things about
- 13:33Speaker 3: this sport where, you know, they're just games where your
- 13:36Speaker 3: team can just look like they don't have a clue,
- 13:38Speaker 3: and then they can come back and actually look like
- 13:40Speaker 3: they do. But I'm just thinking of the, you know,
- 13:42Speaker 3: the touchdown throw to Dobbs where it's like, His footwork
- 13:45Speaker 3: looks good. He's going through his reads.
- 13:47Speaker 1: No, no, no. Bang.
- 13:48Speaker 4: Because he knows what he's got, you know, backside. But
- 13:51Speaker 4: you've got to get the safety out of there, and
- 13:52Speaker 4: you've got to look this way. You've got to do
- 13:54Speaker 4: a little pump fake. He was patient. I agree with Mike.
- 13:57Speaker 4: We can, you know, and I know when Ev gets here,
- 13:59Speaker 4: you know, he's going to give us probably a lot
- 14:00Speaker 4: of really valid reasons and tactical things that they did.
- 14:04Speaker 4: I'm not really.
- 14:05Speaker 5: Get your oxygen now because he's going to take it out.
- 14:07Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 14:09Speaker 4: I'm not overly interested in all of it, and it's
- 14:11Speaker 4: not like a snarky Paul, like, oh, you do your
- 14:14Speaker 4: ex's nose on your own time. I do feel that
- 14:17Speaker 4: way in general, but in this game, we can talk
- 14:19Speaker 4: about all of it.
- 14:20Speaker 6: Sure.
- 14:20Speaker 4: But the only thing that really mattered on Sunday... was
- 14:24Speaker 4: what Mike is talking about, how Drake looked. Because if
- 14:27Speaker 4: it didn't continue, if it continued the way it was
- 14:29Speaker 4: the first three weeks, they may have won a game
- 14:32Speaker 4: because their defense won a game for them, but the
- 14:33Speaker 4: problem wouldn't be solved. And the problem, I'm not saying
- 14:36Speaker 4: is solved now, but I feel a hell of a
- 14:39Speaker 4: lot better today about the quarterback than I did coming in.
- 14:42Speaker 5: It's a reminder to him And to us, but more
- 14:45Speaker 5: to him, you can do this.
- 14:46Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 14:47Speaker 5: You belong here. You're an NFL quarterback.
- 14:50Speaker 2: You deserve to be a starting quarterback in this league,
- 14:53Speaker 2: in the face of this franchise.
- 14:54Speaker 5: This is good.
- 14:55Speaker 1: So let's talk about.
- 14:56Speaker 4: You're good enough?
- 14:57Speaker 2: Let's talk about some other individuals who stood out for
- 15:00Speaker 2: you aside from Drake Mayne.
- 15:01Speaker 5: Can I start? Go ahead.
- 15:03Speaker 4: It wasn't a big.
- 15:04Speaker 5: Were you going to say Henderson?
- 15:06Speaker 9: No.
- 15:06Speaker 5: No, I thought.
- 15:07Speaker 4: Well, I think we both thought it was going to
- 15:08Speaker 4: be something, but go ahead. I.
- 15:10Speaker 2: He didn't have a great game, but I thought I
- 15:13Speaker 2: saw more in terms of footwork from Trevion Henderson than
- 15:17Speaker 2: I've seen all season.
- 15:18Speaker 6: Okay.
- 15:18Speaker 4: That's a weird one to start with.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Just a little footwork, a couple little moves to get
- 15:24Speaker 2: a couple extra yards. I haven't seen that, and maybe
- 15:27Speaker 2: because he had a little bit more space to do that.
- 15:31Speaker 2: But I thought that his footwork in close spaces, I'm
- 15:36Speaker 2: not talking.
- 15:36Speaker 5: About the open field, was the best I've seen so far.
- 15:40Speaker 4: Okay.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Trevion Henderson. Yeah.
- 15:42Speaker 5: And I had a really good angle.
- 15:44Speaker 2: We were up high, but not high enough where you couldn't...
- 15:47Speaker 2: You know, of course, I had my binoculars, too.
- 15:50Speaker 4: Just a quick feet.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:52Speaker 2: I thought he showed something that I haven't seen yet
- 15:54Speaker 2: so far this season.
- 15:56Speaker 1: I didn't. That didn't really stand out to me, but I.
- 15:59Speaker 4: No, I mean, he did a good job with his
- 16:01Speaker 4: speed to avoid a five-yard loss on the reverse and
- 16:04Speaker 4: then turned it into an 11-yard gain, which goes down
- 16:06Speaker 4: as whatever, like, 16 yards after contact.
- 16:10Speaker 10: Like, because.
- 16:10Speaker 4: I love the, the yards after contact that come out
- 16:13Speaker 4: after these games.
- 16:14Speaker 2: And it's like, I remember that play. Cause I sat,
- 16:16Speaker 2: I said, use your speed, use your speed.
- 16:18Speaker 4: And he did. And he was able to shake off
- 16:20Speaker 4: that tackle and he, and he got the edge and,
- 16:23Speaker 4: you know, just because he was fast enough, he ended
- 16:25Speaker 4: up turning into a positive play and that's fine. I
- 16:27Speaker 4: didn't necessarily see, I mean, I thought he did a
- 16:30Speaker 4: better job of moving the pile forward, you know, in,
- 16:34Speaker 4: in the hole, but remand rate to me still gets
- 16:35Speaker 4: more yards that aren't there.
- 16:37Speaker 5: Oh, sure.
- 16:38Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 16:38Speaker 4: Um, But Mike, do you have anybody that you want
- 16:41Speaker 4: to give?
- 16:41Speaker 3: I just, you know, I continue to enjoy watching Gabe
- 16:44Speaker 3: Ackes develop. I mean, it's a, I mean, I watched
- 16:47Speaker 3: it live, you know, when he had Dawkins on skates there,
- 16:49Speaker 3: it's just, you know, you're seeing the power and the
- 16:52Speaker 3: aggressiveness kind of translate. There was another one that stood
- 16:54Speaker 3: out to me with Kincaid trying to block him. And
- 16:57Speaker 3: it was like, he's just, he's just a very, very
- 17:00Speaker 3: strong player.
- 17:01Speaker 1: So I think that's been a great development.
- 17:03Speaker 3: I spent so much time this summer talking about my
- 17:06Speaker 3: concern for the edges. I think he's really starting to develop.
- 17:08Speaker 3: And I think, You know, Ponder, it's the same thing.
- 17:11Speaker 1: It's developing.
- 17:12Speaker 3: He's a guy that needs to get comfortable being in
- 17:15Speaker 3: space a little bit more.
- 17:16Speaker 1: And I think some of the issues on the defense
- 17:17Speaker 1: is when.
- 17:17Speaker 4: Who are those two guys?
- 17:18Speaker 1: Ponder. Who was that?
- 17:19Speaker 4: Who were the two guys?
- 17:20Speaker 1: Akis and Ponder.
- 17:21Speaker 4: Akis and Ponder? You know what they say, Fred.
- 17:24Speaker 5: What's that?
- 17:24Speaker 4: Akis makes the heart grow Ponder.
- 17:26Speaker 11: Oh.
- 17:27Speaker 7: Oh, boy.
- 17:28Speaker 1: He came up with that one this weekend.
- 17:29Speaker 4: I said Fred's going to like that one.
- 17:31Speaker 5: That's good.
- 17:32Speaker 3: My hard score on Ponder for both of them, though,
- 17:34Speaker 3: I just think they've been solid, and it's been a
- 17:36Speaker 3: huge concern of mine, and I think you've got a
- 17:39Speaker 3: second-year player and a first-year player that look like they
- 17:42Speaker 3: can belong.
- 17:42Speaker 1: There's a ways to go.
- 17:43Speaker 3: I think that especially playing in space for both of them,
- 17:46Speaker 3: dropping out, that they have to understand the spacing a
- 17:49Speaker 3: little bit better. But just in terms of being strong
- 17:52Speaker 3: on the edge and giving them solid reps, Draymond Jones
- 17:55Speaker 3: came back and played a bunch with his injury, too.
- 17:57Speaker 4: I think Draymond Jones deserves a lot of credit for
- 18:01Speaker 4: dislocated shoulder, reportedly.
- 18:03Speaker 1: I should say. Looked like it.
- 18:06Speaker 4: And he played through pain, and I thought he was
- 18:08Speaker 4: a presence in that game. I hear what you're saying
- 18:12Speaker 4: about more so Ackis, but Ponder, I think, has been
- 18:16Speaker 4: pretty good. Agus, to me, has these flash plays that
- 18:21Speaker 4: everybody loves to see, and the one that, you know,
- 18:23Speaker 4: obviously he got Doc Dawkins off balance and knocked him over.
- 18:28Speaker 4: That's great. It's a great rep. I'd like to see
- 18:30Speaker 4: more than, like, these physically dominant or, you know, played
- 18:34Speaker 4: or two, but As a rookie, he's doing exactly what
- 18:38Speaker 4: I think we all kind of envisioned. He's going to
- 18:40Speaker 4: be a regular contributor on defense on the edge. I
- 18:44Speaker 4: think he's doing exactly what we had all hoped he
- 18:46Speaker 4: would do. The guy that I really thought took a
- 18:50Speaker 4: step forward was Romeo Dobbs. Again, not perfect. The slant,
- 18:55Speaker 4: that's a terrible throw from May, but still shouldn't be
- 18:57Speaker 4: an interception. It can't be an interception. And then I
- 19:01Speaker 4: thought May made an absolutely perfect throw to him the
- 19:05Speaker 4: play before the Chisholm touchdown.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Is that the one to the sideline?
- 19:09Speaker 4: There was a couple of plays before. It wasn't the
- 19:11Speaker 4: play before. Yes. The same sideline. Perfect.
- 19:14Speaker 12: Excellent.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Perfect. Perfect throw. And that's, that's a hard throw.
- 19:17Speaker 4: And he couldn't, and he couldn't quite, you know, corral it,
- 19:21Speaker 4: but two fourth down catches, two touchdown catches. One of
- 19:25Speaker 4: them one handed, um, didn't get the same amount of
- 19:28Speaker 4: attention for his one handed catch. Well, um, But I
- 19:33Speaker 4: thought a really big step forward for him, and specifically
- 19:36Speaker 4: the fourth down catches, just like these timing, quick back
- 19:40Speaker 4: foot balls out, seven yard out. This is what we
- 19:43Speaker 4: saw all summer. Like when people were like, why do
- 19:45Speaker 4: you guys keep talking about Romeo? Well, that's what we saw.
- 19:48Speaker 4: And about the early part of camp through the bulk
- 19:51Speaker 4: of camp, those are the kind of pitching catches. And,
- 19:55Speaker 4: you know, hopefully it's a start. And I know Drake
- 19:56Speaker 4: talked about it last week. Drake May talked about it.
- 19:59Speaker 4: It's like he knows what he has in Romeo Dobbs.
- 20:01Speaker 4: It's coming. It's coming. So maybe this is the start. Again,
- 20:04Speaker 4: not perfect. A couple of missteps, you know, for Dobbs.
- 20:07Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 20:07Speaker 4: But I thought the big plays in the game, he
- 20:10Speaker 4: was he delivered.
- 20:11Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 20:12Speaker 4: Evans here.
- 20:13Speaker 2: We're just we've kind of gone through kind of the 50000.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Now we're just kind of picking out individuals who we thought.
- 20:19Speaker 2: had good games, and I think, you know, obviously everybody
- 20:21Speaker 2: needed to do something. The secondary, there's no way that
- 20:26Speaker 2: they win this game without the good coverage. I think
- 20:28Speaker 2: it started there, and, you know, I think, you know, Carlton,
- 20:32Speaker 2: you took the words out of my mouth.
- 20:34Speaker 5: He had a really good game. Really good game.
- 20:38Speaker 4: It was up the screen game, huh?
- 20:40Speaker 1: Recognition. I mean, he seems to get it, and he's
- 20:42Speaker 1: already moving on it.
- 20:43Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 20:44Speaker 5: I mean, Woodson had a good, I think Marcus Jones
- 20:46Speaker 5: had a good game.
- 20:48Speaker 4: I think the best player on defense may have been
- 20:51Speaker 4: Christian Ellis. I thought he was really active in the game,
- 20:54Speaker 4: and his physicality shows up to me every game. Every week,
- 20:57Speaker 4: he seems like he blows somebody up. It was Dawson
- 20:59Speaker 4: Knox this week.
- 20:59Speaker 1: He's getting a reputation for it.
- 21:01Speaker 2: I think Spillane did a great job doing all the
- 21:03Speaker 2: dirty work in the middle.
- 21:05Speaker 5: Good coverage.
- 21:06Speaker 14: Yep.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Picking things up.
- 21:08Speaker 4: They did a lot of things well.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:11Speaker 10: I thought the coverage was maybe a little worse than
- 21:13Speaker 10: you guys did.
- 21:15Speaker 5: Well, stop there.
- 21:17Speaker 10: I don't want to start on a negative thing.
- 21:20Speaker 2: I'm just curious because to me, without the good coverage
- 21:25Speaker 2: and then, of course, the discipline, respect to Josh Allen,
- 21:30Speaker 2: extending plays.
- 21:32Speaker 5: None of that happens on defense.
- 21:33Speaker 2: It started with good coverage, and that's why Allen couldn't
- 21:37Speaker 2: go to his first read.
- 21:38Speaker 10: Okay, yeah. I thought they busted like four or five zones.
- 21:43Speaker 10: Craig Woodson twice. You had Keon Coleman ran right by him.
- 21:48Speaker 4: Woods.
- 21:49Speaker 10: That for what would have been like a gigantic completion.
- 21:53Speaker 10: Coleman dropped it. They also had a hold, so it
- 21:55Speaker 10: would have come back. But they had that play. Woodson
- 21:59Speaker 10: vacated the post on the touchdown.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:01Speaker 4: I think it was Palmer who dropped that pass, by
- 22:03Speaker 4: the way.
- 22:03Speaker 10: Oh, Palmer.
- 22:05Speaker 4: But it wouldn't have counted.
- 22:05Speaker 10: Yeah. Counts on the film. Oh, yeah.
- 22:10Speaker 4: No, for the coverage, it counts.
- 22:13Speaker 10: Charles Woods expecting Woodson to be in the post on
- 22:15Speaker 10: the touchdown. He vacates the post. They score the touchdown. Woods,
- 22:19Speaker 10: I thought, a couple of times in the deep third
- 22:21Speaker 10: was kind of not. His depths were off, and they
- 22:25Speaker 10: gave up a couple of chunks into the sideline that way.
- 22:29Speaker 10: The fourth down play. Christian Ellis, and I forget who
- 22:34Speaker 10: the corner was on that side of the field. They
- 22:35Speaker 10: covered the same guy. They had a bust on that
- 22:38Speaker 10: fourth down play. It was a nine-yard completion. Keep the Bills'
- 22:42Speaker 10: offense on the field, so... So the thing that I
- 22:46Speaker 10: really liked about the coverage was how it was, was
- 22:49Speaker 10: against Kincaid. I thought Spillane did a really nice job
- 22:52Speaker 10: specifically against Kincaid and just kind of plastering to Kincaid
- 22:57Speaker 10: in the middle of the zone. Every single time Kincaid
- 22:59Speaker 10: was on the field, a buyer did it early in
- 23:01Speaker 10: the game on the first third down play of the game.
- 23:03Speaker 10: He was in the post and, jump Kincaid's route coming
- 23:06Speaker 10: over across the field. So I thought that they did
- 23:08Speaker 10: a really good job on Kincaid. Then they did a
- 23:11Speaker 10: really good job containing Josh Allen on the, on the scrambles.
- 23:15Speaker 10: And that those are kind of in the passing game,
- 23:17Speaker 10: at least that's Buffalo's one and two option, right? Is
- 23:20Speaker 10: Josh Allen scrambling and extending plays and Kincaid. So, uh,
- 23:24Speaker 10: taking those two guys out, uh, you know, was, was good. Um,
- 23:28Speaker 10: Keon Coleman had a huge game. in this game, and
- 23:31Speaker 10: I don't really think super highly of Keon Coleman as
- 23:34Speaker 10: a player, but he impressed me in the game on Sunday.
- 23:38Speaker 10: But I thought that really those two things, taking Kincaid
- 23:41Speaker 10: out and the scramble.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Is a big part of it.
- 23:44Speaker 2: You mentioned individual plays that were screw-ups, and they're going
- 23:47Speaker 2: to happen. But overall, I think I'd give the secondary
- 23:53Speaker 2: a solid B in this game for their overall effort
- 23:56Speaker 2: in this game.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Okay.
- 23:58Speaker 5: What would you give them?
- 24:00Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 24:00Speaker 10: You know, Carlin Davis gave up two third down conversions.
- 24:05Speaker 10: You're going to give up some plays. He gave up
- 24:07Speaker 10: an explosive to Keon Coleman on a crossing route. I mean,
- 24:10Speaker 10: I'm just like, we're.
- 24:11Speaker 4: Just talking about what happened. They didn't shut him out.
- 24:14Speaker 4: They basically scored 27 points.
- 24:15Speaker 5: Did you think they would?
- 24:17Speaker 4: No, but I mean, they had an average day. They
- 24:20Speaker 4: had an average Bills day. Basically.
- 24:23Speaker 10: I thought the defense played really well because they made
- 24:26Speaker 10: Josh Allen and the Bills play left-handed.
- 24:29Speaker 4: I thought they played really well, too.
- 24:30Speaker 10: I'm just telling you that I would not say that
- 24:34Speaker 10: the corners were necessarily great in this game.
- 24:37Speaker 1: That's all.
- 24:37Speaker 15: Okay.
- 24:38Speaker 2: I thought they had a good game. I thought overall,
- 24:40Speaker 2: I think it was a really disciplined effort by the
- 24:46Speaker 2: defense and the secondary.
- 24:48Speaker 10: I thought that up front they were very disciplined. And
- 24:51Speaker 10: their pass rush and their coordination in the pass rush
- 24:54Speaker 10: to keep Allen in the pocket was a big part
- 24:57Speaker 10: of the reason why they won this game. That was
- 25:00Speaker 10: really good. And I thought that the plan overall, especially
- 25:04Speaker 10: without Gonzalez, to play a little bit more.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Supposedly, according to Joe Brady, it was supposed to be
- 25:09Speaker 2: easier to game plan. if Gonzalez was playing.
- 25:14Speaker 4: For the Patriots?
- 25:15Speaker 5: No.
- 25:16Speaker 4: Did you hear about him? He said in the production
- 25:19Speaker 4: meeting that it kind of made it more difficult with
- 25:24Speaker 4: him out. And I think what he was talking about
- 25:26Speaker 4: was that you know you're going to get manned a
- 25:31Speaker 4: lot with Gonzalez because he's so good. And this sort
- 25:34Speaker 4: of lent some... Now, I put it on Joe Brady because...
- 25:39Speaker 4: The guy didn't practice all week. It should not have
- 25:41Speaker 4: come as a shock to you on Friday when he
- 25:44Speaker 4: was declared out. And you kind of have to know that.
- 25:48Speaker 4: Not a lot of teams can just play you man
- 25:50Speaker 4: because you have Josh Allen, and you can't just play
- 25:52Speaker 4: man against him the whole game because he's going to
- 25:54Speaker 4: kill you with his running. So that's another instance that
- 25:58Speaker 4: Joe Brady I don't think is ready.
- 25:59Speaker 10: I thought Joe Brady and the Bills' overall game plan, philosophy,
- 26:04Speaker 10: whatever you want to call it offensively, I kind of
- 26:07Speaker 10: thought the Bills took the Bills out of the game
- 26:08Speaker 10: offensively in a lot of ways. They just didn't play
- 26:11Speaker 10: their brand of football. They played really heavy three-wide receiver
- 26:15Speaker 10: game for them, even without DJ Moore for large stretches
- 26:19Speaker 10: of the game. James Cook only runs the ball 12
- 26:21Speaker 10: times in the game, which I thought was surprising.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Why do you think they did that?
- 26:27Speaker 10: Because Gonzalez was out. Without Gonzalez, they thought that they
- 26:30Speaker 10: were going to be able to throw all over the
- 26:32Speaker 10: yard on the Patriots.
- 26:32Speaker 5: And they weren't able to do that.
- 26:33Speaker 10: I mean, they still kind of did, but that's besides
- 26:35Speaker 10: the point. We don't have to keep arguing about this.
- 26:39Speaker 7: The.
- 26:41Speaker 10: I thought the Bills took the Bills out of the
- 26:43Speaker 10: game offensively in a lot of ways with their approach.
- 26:46Speaker 10: They had come into the game last week, all last week.
- 26:48Speaker 10: I'm calling them the bully ball Bills, right? They're putting
- 26:51Speaker 10: multiple tight ends on the field. The quarterback's under center.
- 26:54Speaker 10: It's James Cook down your throat. It's play action off
- 26:56Speaker 10: of James Cook's run game. And this game was a
- 27:00Speaker 10: completely different departure from that. They played a ton of
- 27:02Speaker 10: 11 personnel. They didn't play Kincaid a ton. He only
- 27:06Speaker 10: ran 17 routes in the game. They they didn't play
- 27:09Speaker 10: their game of football. And I thought that eventually they
- 27:14Speaker 10: the Patriots defense outlasted Allen, obviously, with the play at
- 27:17Speaker 10: the end of the game by Woodson. So that was
- 27:19Speaker 10: the most surprising thing to me from like a Bill's
- 27:22Speaker 10: game plan standpoint. is that they went so three receiver heavy.
- 27:25Speaker 10: And I honestly think that they, they got baited into
- 27:28Speaker 10: it by Gonzalez being out. I, I highly doubt that
- 27:31Speaker 10: that would have been the approach of Christian Gonzalez had
- 27:33Speaker 10: played in the game. And, uh, they ran the ball
- 27:36Speaker 10: effectively when they ran it. They, uh, just didn't run
- 27:40Speaker 10: it enough and they didn't play their game of football
- 27:43Speaker 10: with the big tight ends and all that stuff.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Heaven's totally depressed me now. I'm back where I was
- 27:46Speaker 1: last week.
- 27:48Speaker 10: Don't say that.
- 27:49Speaker 1: I didn't want to come in here negative.
- 27:51Speaker 4: I was feeling so good.
- 27:52Speaker 1: I realize the Bills just didn't play good.
- 27:54Speaker 4: This is why my opening point was I don't really
- 27:57Speaker 4: care about all the other stuff because Drake May was
- 27:59Speaker 4: back to looking like Drake May. The Patriots formula for success.
- 28:03Speaker 4: There's got to be that. He needs to be good.
- 28:05Speaker 2: I think the Bills' approach could have worked if the
- 28:08Speaker 2: Patriots hadn't played as well as they did on defense.
- 28:11Speaker 4: It would have worked if Drake May wasn't great. They
- 28:15Speaker 4: still scored 26 points. They didn't get held to 13.
- 28:19Speaker 4: We all said they're not going to win this game 13-10.
- 28:23Speaker 4: The offense needs to win the game. The offense won
- 28:25Speaker 4: the game. The defense played well.
- 28:29Speaker 10: They did a lot of really good things. I like
- 28:31Speaker 10: I I keep saying it like the scrambles in Kincaid.
- 28:35Speaker 10: Like those were the two things in the passing game
- 28:37Speaker 10: that I would have also tried to take away. They
- 28:39Speaker 10: did that well. Now, the Kincaid thing is like to
- 28:42Speaker 10: me is a little bit usage related. Like if you're
- 28:45Speaker 10: going to play three receivers and you're only going to
- 28:47Speaker 10: put one tight end on the field, if Kincaid is
- 28:49Speaker 10: the tight end, then you can't really run the ball
- 28:51Speaker 10: as well because he's not a blocker. So essentially that
- 28:53Speaker 10: becomes like 10 personnel. It becomes four wide receivers.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Don't you think maybe at some point Brady said, you
- 28:58Speaker 2: know what, they're taking away Kincaid. And that's why he
- 29:01Speaker 2: only had 17 routes.
- 29:03Speaker 10: I think that he only had 17 routes because personnel wise,
- 29:07Speaker 10: if they wanted to stay a little bit balanced and
- 29:10Speaker 10: run the football, he can't be the only tight end
- 29:13Speaker 10: on the field. because they don't trust him as a blocker.
- 29:16Speaker 10: So that I think is really what happened. So if
- 29:19Speaker 10: you don't play multiple tight ends, which allows like Knox
- 29:22Speaker 10: to really be the inline guy or Haas to really
- 29:24Speaker 10: be the inline guy. And then Kincaid's basically just like
- 29:27Speaker 10: a big slot receiver at that point. Like that's what
- 29:30Speaker 10: they were doing in the first couple of weeks of
- 29:32Speaker 10: the season.
- 29:32Speaker 4: This to me. And again, I think the defense played
- 29:34Speaker 4: really well. I told you that even before Evan got here.
- 29:36Speaker 7: Right?
- 29:36Speaker 10: I don't even know why we went down this road.
- 29:38Speaker 4: So I'm not changing that. But again, I think it's
- 29:41Speaker 4: all predicated on the offense. The offense had mammoth drives
- 29:44Speaker 4: in this game, four reasonably long touchdown drives.
- 29:47Speaker 5: This defense is a good offense.
- 29:48Speaker 7: Yes.
- 29:49Speaker 4: And this is what I'm saying. Like, you know, why
- 29:50Speaker 4: did James Cook only have 12 carries? Well, he was
- 29:52Speaker 4: on the sideline for a long time. You know, they
- 29:55Speaker 4: still should have ran it more. I think Joe Brady
- 29:57Speaker 4: did not call a great game. I agree with everything
- 29:59Speaker 4: that Evan said. But I'm giving the Patriots credit for forcing,
- 30:03Speaker 4: as Evan pointed out, Buffalo to play left-handed. They didn't
- 30:07Speaker 4: do some of the things that they normally do. Mike
- 30:10Speaker 4: pointed out right off the top. First drive. First of all,
- 30:14Speaker 4: Joe Brady's first mistake of the day comes foolishly taking
- 30:17Speaker 4: the ball. Like... You have Drake May who's in an
- 30:21Speaker 4: absolute blender for three weeks. Get him on the field
- 30:23Speaker 4: as fast as you can and see if you can
- 30:25Speaker 4: continue that.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Why do you think they did that?
- 30:27Speaker 10: They keep taking the ball.
- 30:28Speaker 5: They keep taking the ball.
- 30:30Speaker 4: They did that in the first home game. That's what
- 30:33Speaker 4: they do. The first home game they did it and
- 30:35Speaker 4: Joe Brady said we wanted to feed off the energy
- 30:37Speaker 4: of the crowd in the first home game of the
- 30:39Speaker 4: new plays. I just thought it was a one-off. Now
- 30:42Speaker 4: it's a pattern.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Yeah, but if you're going to feed off the energy,
- 30:44Speaker 2: you go on defense and keep the crowd in it.
- 30:46Speaker 10: So they've been taking the ball.
- 30:48Speaker 4: I agree. And then they go three and out, which
- 30:51Speaker 4: exacerbates the problem.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Throwing.
- 30:53Speaker 5: You know, it just.
- 30:55Speaker 3: It makes me wonder about Joe Brady.
- 30:57Speaker 1: I mean, we talked a lot about great start. You know,
- 30:59Speaker 1: he's going to.
- 30:59Speaker 3: Have some adversity overthinking things too much. I mean, do
- 31:02Speaker 3: you just, like, get back to, let's just do what
- 31:04Speaker 3: we do best and not try to, like.
- 31:06Speaker 10: If I was Buffalo, that's... Like, do you have enough
- 31:09Speaker 10: talent on offense?
- 31:10Speaker 2: And they.
- 31:12Speaker 10: Sometimes it clicks into me about the talent on the
- 31:15Speaker 10: other team when they do the intros. And they do
- 31:18Speaker 10: the individual intros on the offensive side of the ball
- 31:21Speaker 10: for Buffalo. And the offensive line's running out, and I'm like,
- 31:25Speaker 10: holy crap, these guys are huge. Like Deion Dawkins, Spencer Brown,
- 31:31Speaker 10: then James Cook comes, and Josh Allen comes, and I'm like...
- 31:34Speaker 10: It's a good group.
- 31:35Speaker 4: It's a good group.
- 31:36Speaker 1: And Keon Coleman.
- 31:37Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 31:37Speaker 10: And then the, and the Patriots come, you know, the, the,
- 31:40Speaker 10: the bills come out and they try to spread the
- 31:42Speaker 10: Patriots out and throw it all over them. And I'm like, okay,
- 31:45Speaker 10: if you want to let the Patriots play in three
- 31:47Speaker 10: corner nickel and just like play like that, that's their
- 31:50Speaker 10: bread and butter. Like that's that core in his bag.
- 31:52Speaker 10: When you play that way, like if you want to
- 31:54Speaker 10: beat the Patriots, I just wouldn't play him that way,
- 31:56Speaker 10: but I don't want to, you know, but I do
- 31:58Speaker 10: keep doing it.
- 31:59Speaker 4: See, but I do think the Patriots did a good
- 32:00Speaker 4: job on cook for the first three quarters of the game.
- 32:03Speaker 4: Like the, like, He got hot in the fourth quarter,
- 32:06Speaker 4: and I think Evan's right, but I don't think, like
- 32:10Speaker 4: the first, the three and out was a run to
- 32:12Speaker 4: Cook on first down, and then two, you know, two
- 32:15Speaker 4: passes after that.
- 32:16Speaker 10: It came like four or five yards.
- 32:17Speaker 4: And Kevin Byard, you know, made a play on the
- 32:20Speaker 4: third down, the first third down of the game, which,
- 32:22Speaker 4: you know, on Kincaid, he knocks the ball away. I think,
- 32:28Speaker 4: you know, the old adage of two things can be true.
- 32:31Speaker 4: I think that Evan's right, that they didn't play to
- 32:34Speaker 4: their strengths enough. But I also think because the Patriots
- 32:37Speaker 4: had some success early, the plays were down for Buffalo early,
- 32:42Speaker 4: and now you're on the sideline. And good offenses get
- 32:44Speaker 4: antsy when they're not on the field. And, you know,
- 32:47Speaker 4: let's face it, the second time they got the ball,
- 32:48Speaker 4: they went right down the field and scored a touchdown. Like,
- 32:50Speaker 4: this is what I'm saying. Like, let's not overstate anything.
- 32:54Speaker 4: They won the game because Drake May was back to 25,
- 32:56Speaker 4: Drake May. And the Patriots' offense was cooking. I mean,
- 33:00Speaker 4: they had over 400 yards, four long touchdown drives, including
- 33:04Speaker 4: a game-winning drive. capped off by your guy, Freddie.
- 33:08Speaker 5: We haven't even talked about him. I'm going to leave
- 33:10Speaker 5: a whole segment.
- 33:11Speaker 1: That's after the break.
- 33:12Speaker 4: He joined us for the post-game show. He had a
- 33:14Speaker 4: smile from ear to ear.
- 33:15Speaker 2: He should.
- 33:16Speaker 4: He should. It was a huge play in the game
- 33:19Speaker 4: and a huge play in the season, potentially.
- 33:22Speaker 3: I've gotten stuck on some Bills fans algorithm stuff. It's
- 33:25Speaker 3: feeding me Bills fans lamenting, but I've just seen a
- 33:27Speaker 3: lot of concern about their defense. That's a big question.
- 33:31Speaker 3: I understand Jim Leonard is new. but I think right
- 33:34Speaker 3: now they're wondering, are we going to be able to
- 33:36Speaker 3: turn this thing around, and is it going to hit?
- 33:38Speaker 3: Like you said, Paul, they'll be better late in the season.
- 33:41Speaker 3: I tend to agree with that.
- 33:42Speaker 4: Maybe, but they're missing horses right now, and the only
- 33:45Speaker 4: thing I would say about them defensively is I thought
- 33:48Speaker 4: they were better against the run than I was anticipating,
- 33:51Speaker 4: but there's holes all over that secondary. I know Drake
- 33:56Speaker 4: had some numbers, like tight window throws. I didn't see
- 33:58Speaker 4: a lot of tight window throws. I saw a lot
- 34:00Speaker 4: of just Drake getting with conviction, letting it fly to
- 34:04Speaker 4: guys that were open. You know, and again, like the
- 34:06Speaker 4: last throw to Efton Chisholm, that's probably, I mean, that's
- 34:08Speaker 4: a tight window of throw, but that's going to get completed. Like,
- 34:12Speaker 4: the receiver's behind the defender, and as long as the
- 34:15Speaker 4: quarterback puts the ball where he's supposed to on a
- 34:17Speaker 4: play like that, and that's the difference between the first
- 34:19Speaker 4: three weeks. Instead of that throw being short to the
- 34:21Speaker 4: outside in Seattle, it's over the top, and it gives
- 34:24Speaker 4: your guy a chance to make a play. I know
- 34:26Speaker 4: it's not the same route, Ed. Don't yell at me.
- 34:28Speaker 7: I know.
- 34:28Speaker 4: I know it wasn't the same play.
- 34:29Speaker 1: I saw him get agitated for a second.
- 34:31Speaker 4: But when Drake's on, you know, like the touchdown to
- 34:35Speaker 4: Romeo Dobbs, the first with his one-handed touchdown, the second
- 34:38Speaker 4: one for him, That's not going to get defended. I
- 34:41Speaker 4: know it's a tight window, but that's not going to
- 34:42Speaker 4: get defended. You can't stop it.
- 34:45Speaker 10: Him playing on time, in rhythm, in structure was just
- 34:49Speaker 10: night and day in this game. Getting through progressions, not
- 34:54Speaker 10: panicking in the pocket, not vacating pockets. Really just played...
- 35:01Speaker 10: In a rhythm. Really out of the shoot.
- 35:02Speaker 5: The fact that there was a pocket, how did the
- 35:05Speaker 5: offensive line play?
- 35:06Speaker 10: Not great. And he handled it pretty well.
- 35:08Speaker 4: It was all him.
- 35:09Speaker 10: And I thought that was what was the most reassuring
- 35:12Speaker 10: was that it wasn't like one of those days where
- 35:14Speaker 10: the pass rush disappeared from Buffalo.
- 35:15Speaker 4: Yeah, Greg Russo's a problem.
- 35:17Speaker 10: Yeah, Russo and Deion Walker is as much of a
- 35:20Speaker 10: problem as well. He's a psycho, man.
- 35:23Speaker 5: He's just.
- 35:24Speaker 4: Even your guy, the corpse of Chubb, made a couple
- 35:26Speaker 4: of plays in this game. He wasn't as good as
- 35:28Speaker 4: Russo or anything like that, but he showed up a
- 35:30Speaker 4: little bit, too.
- 35:31Speaker 10: Yeah, the offensive line, especially the left side, struggled in
- 35:34Speaker 10: this game, but I thought that Mays, just right out
- 35:38Speaker 10: of the chute, playing on time, even the touchdown pass
- 35:42Speaker 10: to Dobbs, like Dobbs is coming out of the break
- 35:44Speaker 10: and the balls getting ripped out of Drake Mays hands.
- 35:48Speaker 10: And like just that timing to come off the initial read,
- 35:51Speaker 10: come backside to the post and rip it on time
- 35:54Speaker 10: is not, we weren't seeing that for the first three
- 35:56Speaker 10: weeks of the season. He was either holding the ball
- 35:59Speaker 10: too long or he's vacating the pocket when the initial
- 36:02Speaker 10: read wasn't there, like those types of things. And, uh,
- 36:05Speaker 10: That was really high-level NFL quarterbacking. How does it just happen?
- 36:11Speaker 1: Why does it just come back like this week?
- 36:12Speaker 4: Is it as simple as the defense? Can it be
- 36:15Speaker 4: as simple as that? There were more openings, more gaps,
- 36:17Speaker 4: and the defense, Mike, as you said, was trying to
- 36:20Speaker 4: find itself.
- 36:21Speaker 10: I wish I could answer that question because whatever they
- 36:25Speaker 10: said to him during the week, something– It switched, you know,
- 36:31Speaker 10: a flip switch happened here. I don't know what it was,
- 36:35Speaker 10: but like they just. He just looked so much more.
- 36:39Speaker 10: trusting of what was going on around him, the pocket,
- 36:43Speaker 10: the scheme, the receivers, you know, like I'm going to
- 36:47Speaker 10: pump here because it's going to move the zone. And
- 36:50Speaker 10: then I'm going to, this guy's now going to be open.
- 36:52Speaker 10: If I look over there and move the safety, I'm
- 36:54Speaker 10: going to come back to, you know, this route. And
- 36:56Speaker 10: it was just like, he had like, he had total
- 36:59Speaker 10: like holistic sense of what they were trying to do
- 37:01Speaker 10: and trying to accomplish offensively. And, uh, right out of
- 37:04Speaker 10: the gate. Like it wasn't like it, like, Oh, we
- 37:07Speaker 10: had a good first drive. And then it kind of, no,
- 37:09Speaker 10: it was like the first handful of plays of the game.
- 37:12Speaker 10: The first couple of dropbacks, he's already just completely locked in.
- 37:15Speaker 10: So I don't know what they did behind the scenes.
- 37:18Speaker 10: I don't know what they said. My guess is there's
- 37:21Speaker 10: something along the lines of, like, you've got to trust
- 37:23Speaker 10: that it's going to work. You've got to trust that
- 37:25Speaker 10: the protection is going to hold up, that the receivers
- 37:27Speaker 10: are going to do their jobs, and settle down a
- 37:31Speaker 10: little bit in the pocket because that's what.
- 37:32Speaker 5: It looked like.
- 37:33Speaker 2: You know, we talked about it was a big game
- 37:35Speaker 2: for Drake and a lot of the people. Big game
- 37:39Speaker 2: for Josh McDaniels, too, because fans were giving him some heat.
- 37:44Speaker 5: Not that he cares, but.
- 37:46Speaker 4: They still are.
- 37:47Speaker 5: Yeah, but I think.
- 37:48Speaker 4: They still are.
- 37:48Speaker 5: I think it was a good game for Josh McDaniels.
- 37:51Speaker 1: The quarterback looks like that.
- 37:53Speaker 10: I don't know if it was a Buffalo thing specifically,
- 37:55Speaker 10: and this is, I think, something that we're going to
- 37:57Speaker 10: have to see moving forward with, but the motion rate
- 38:01Speaker 10: increased significantly. The play-action rates increased significantly. Their run game
- 38:07Speaker 10: was significantly more diverse in this game. It was a
- 38:11Speaker 10: very big.
- 38:13Speaker 10: Change from what we saw in the first three weeks
- 38:15Speaker 10: of the season schematically. So were they emptying the clip
- 38:19Speaker 10: in a big divisional game? They're one and two. Their
- 38:21Speaker 10: backs are against the wall. Were they building to this
- 38:24Speaker 10: point all along? And he just like held his water
- 38:26Speaker 10: a little bit longer than some of us and was
- 38:29Speaker 10: more patient about it. Was it Buffalo specific? Like, I
- 38:32Speaker 10: guess we'll find out next week with the Raiders, but
- 38:35Speaker 10: they motion 75% of the time in this game is
- 38:38Speaker 10: the highest motion rate they had in three years. So
- 38:41Speaker 10: they were doing a lot more window dressing, a lot
- 38:44Speaker 10: more motioning at the snap, a lot more play action.
- 38:48Speaker 10: So like all of these are things that, you know,
- 38:50Speaker 10: when you hit these buttons, these, you know, they call
- 38:52Speaker 10: them easy buttons. Cause like, these are the things that
- 38:54Speaker 10: help offenses operate more efficiently and And Josh McDaniels brought
- 38:59Speaker 10: them all out in this game. I don't know where
- 39:01Speaker 10: that was the first three weeks of the season.
- 39:02Speaker 1: Did I see Matt Collins' motion out through the C-gap?
- 39:06Speaker 1: Did they pull some Ben Johnson stuff out of the way?
- 39:08Speaker 5: They were doing duo inserts.
- 39:09Speaker 10: They were doing fly sweeps. They were doing shifts into
- 39:12Speaker 10: the formations. Like, I mean, we're just.
- 39:15Speaker 4: All of a sudden.
- 39:16Speaker 10: All of a sudden. All of a sudden. And, like, again,
- 39:20Speaker 10: I don't know.
- 39:21Speaker 4: You're welcome.
- 39:22Speaker 1: Juke Haas.
- 39:24Speaker 7: No.
- 39:24Speaker 4: It's harsh.
- 39:25Speaker 3: It's like, do you get to like through week three
- 39:26Speaker 3: and like, I guess we're going to have to do
- 39:28Speaker 3: some motion this year.
- 39:29Speaker 5: It's just not working yet.
- 39:30Speaker 13: Working.
- 39:30Speaker 1: He looks at me.
- 39:31Speaker 7: No.
- 39:31Speaker 4: I knew what you meant.
- 39:32Speaker 10: But they actually ran a couple plays out of empty,
- 39:35Speaker 10: and they didn't run Haas-Juke. I was like, oh, good. Because, like,
- 39:39Speaker 10: the Jaguars were just waiting for it on that one play.
- 39:42Speaker 4: But they.
- 39:44Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 39:44Speaker 10: Maybe this was a build-up all along, and we just
- 39:48Speaker 10: all kind of lost our patience a little bit about it.
- 39:50Speaker 10: But all of a sudden, that was what I was
- 39:53Speaker 10: expecting to see schematically based off of everything.
- 39:56Speaker 4: And this is why people were like, oh, all these
- 39:58Speaker 4: drives into the opponent's territory, and it's just the turnovers,
- 40:02Speaker 4: it's just the turnovers. And I was like, you see
- 40:03Speaker 4: the difference? If you didn't see the difference between how
- 40:05Speaker 4: much better they played offensively with all that... that Evan
- 40:08Speaker 4: just explained as compared to the first three weeks. That
- 40:13Speaker 4: was night and day. Drake looked in this game different
- 40:15Speaker 4: than he did in the first three.
- 40:17Speaker 10: They had one play, one run play, where they shifted
- 40:20Speaker 10: like two or three times.
- 40:23Speaker 4: And I was like, whoa. Like we haven't, what are we,
- 40:26Speaker 4: you know, Evan's fanning himself down.
- 40:28Speaker 10: Oh my God.
- 40:29Speaker 5: Done some, I swear I'm off of layers of clothing.
- 40:33Speaker 10: First pop comes across the formation and goes from one
- 40:38Speaker 10: side of the field to the other that causes, you know,
- 40:40Speaker 10: the bills to have to bump or switch their, they're
- 40:43Speaker 10: passing strength of the formation. So they get the linebackers
- 40:46Speaker 10: to flip that opens the gap that they're trying to
- 40:48Speaker 10: run through. Then they take Eli rare and they shift
- 40:51Speaker 10: him across the formation. So they changed the, you know, the,
- 40:53Speaker 10: where the tight is, is on the field. Then they
- 40:56Speaker 10: put Eli rare in, in motion at the snap and
- 40:58Speaker 10: they have emotion into his block. And I was like,
- 41:01Speaker 10: where has this been? And thank you. Like this is,
- 41:03Speaker 10: I've just been waiting for these types of things to,
- 41:06Speaker 10: Their run game wasn't perfect. It wasn't great.
- 41:09Speaker 4: But I thought it was better.
- 41:10Speaker 10: But it was better.
- 41:10Speaker 4: I did think it was better.
- 41:11Speaker 10: And when you have a better run game, the play-action
- 41:13Speaker 10: stuff starts to work. You get your offense into a rhythm.
- 41:16Speaker 10: And then all of a sudden, you put 29 points
- 41:18Speaker 10: on the board.
- 41:19Speaker 2: All right. 855-PASS-500 is the hotline. Podcasts at Patriots.com is
- 41:24Speaker 2: the email address.
- 41:26Speaker 4: Let's open it up.
- 41:27Speaker 5: We haven't talked about Chisholm yet, but we'll get there.
- 41:31Speaker 5: Let's see. We'll start with Anthony in Seattle.
- 41:35Speaker 1: What's up, Anthony? Hey, Fred, we got our guy back.
- 41:43Speaker 5: Who's our guy?
- 41:44Speaker 1: Drake Mays.
- 41:45Speaker 18: We got our guy back.
- 41:46Speaker 4: Okay.
- 41:47Speaker 5: Because we got a lot of guys back, but Drake Mays, yep, okay.
- 41:50Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah.
- 41:51Speaker 3: All right.
- 41:51Speaker 15: Hey, I got a couple of CU game balls to
- 41:54Speaker 15: give out. So the first game ball is going to
- 41:56Speaker 15: go to the one Frederick Kirsch, wide receiver whisperer. Listen,
- 42:02Speaker 15: I'm still– Probably a little more on Paul's side of
- 42:05Speaker 15: the street when it comes to Chisholm. But at least
- 42:07Speaker 15: for now, I'd like to thank you for having me
- 42:10Speaker 15: as a guest on Chisholm Island. I would have said
- 42:14Speaker 15: Eston Island, but I didn't want it to sound like.
- 42:15Speaker 6: The other one.
- 42:16Speaker 4: All are welcome.
- 42:18Speaker 15: And then the second game ball, let's see, won Michael Dussault.
- 42:23Speaker 18: All right.
- 42:24Speaker 14: Now, here's the thing.
- 42:27Speaker 18: I didn't think we were going to win this game.
- 42:29Speaker 15: But I also, you know, I knew we'd have a
- 42:32Speaker 15: better showing because this team always gets up for Buffalo.
- 42:35Speaker 14: And so I figured, you know, we.
- 42:36Speaker 18: Feel better coming out of this game.
- 42:37Speaker 2: We'd be 1-3.
- 42:38Speaker 15: That's not the end of the world. Like I said,
- 42:40Speaker 15: I'm here for the journey. But the first inkling I
- 42:42Speaker 15: got that, you know what, maybe we're going to go
- 42:45Speaker 15: win this game. It happened on Thursday.
- 42:48Speaker 14: And it happened when Deuce picked.
- 42:49Speaker 15: The Bills, baby. I'm like, oh, yeah.
- 42:52Speaker 1: There you go.
- 42:54Speaker 15: I get that everybody picked the Bills, but not everybody
- 42:56Speaker 15: has the same power that Deuce has to influence the
- 43:00Speaker 15: outcome of games based on who he picks to win.
- 43:02Speaker 14: He understood the assignment.
- 43:03Speaker 1: Backhanded compliment.
- 43:04Speaker 15: You know that with great power comes great responsibility. So
- 43:07Speaker 15: you went ahead, took one for the team, picked Buffalo,
- 43:10Speaker 15: and got us the win, baby. Game ball, Mike Deuce.
- 43:13Speaker 1: Thanks, guys. All right. Well, a little preview. I think
- 43:15Speaker 1: one of only... Two games I got.
- 43:18Speaker 4: What did I go?
- 43:20Speaker 6: 13-3?
- 43:20Speaker 4: 13-3 for Mike.
- 43:21Speaker 2: Really?
- 43:21Speaker 1: I got three games wrong and one of them was
- 43:25Speaker 1: the Patriots game.
- 43:26Speaker 7: Okay.
- 43:26Speaker 1: Take that, Anthony.
- 43:27Speaker 4: Good for Mike.
- 43:28Speaker 10: Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
- 43:30Speaker 1: Let's go to Winnipeg. Isaac's on the phone.
- 43:33Speaker 5: What's up, Isaac?
- 43:34Speaker 18: Hey, can you hear me?
- 43:36Speaker 7: Yes.
- 43:39Speaker 18: Oh, first time calling. Thank you for having my call.
- 43:42Speaker 18: I'm happy that we handed the Bills their first loss
- 43:46Speaker 18: in their new stadium, and I was all pumped up.
- 43:48Speaker 18: Then I started listening to Evan. I'm a fan of his,
- 43:50Speaker 18: by the way. I have, like, a signed jersey from
- 43:52Speaker 18: him that I got in Minneapolis. But he seems, like,
- 43:56Speaker 18: upset that we won against his Bills, so I don't
- 43:58Speaker 18: know how to react to that. I guess, like, we
- 44:02Speaker 18: were supposed to drop this game, but I'm happy we won,
- 44:05Speaker 18: and I'm happy his fanboy Josh Allen lost. I don't know.
- 44:10Speaker 18: I'm just excited that we are finally back on track.
- 44:13Speaker 1: Okay.
- 44:13Speaker 4: How long have you been a Patriots fan, Isaac?
- 44:17Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 44:17Speaker 18: Like, when I was, like, six or seven. I'm originally
- 44:20Speaker 18: from Mexico, but I.
- 44:21Speaker 1: Moved to Winnipeg.
- 44:23Speaker 18: I've been following along.
- 44:24Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 44:25Speaker 7: Oh, okay.
- 44:26Speaker 4: All right.
- 44:26Speaker 18: I'm just happy that we won. I'm happy that we
- 44:29Speaker 18: destroyed the Bills. I'm happy that we actually won when
- 44:31Speaker 18: they were supposed to lose. Not like we dropped the
- 44:34Speaker 18: game in Seattle. So, finally, if they chose to play left-handed,
- 44:38Speaker 18: then we won when they were playing left-handed.
- 44:39Speaker 11: Great.
- 44:39Speaker 4: That's all I have to say.
- 44:40Speaker 1: All right.
- 44:41Speaker 4: Thanks, Isaac.
- 44:42Speaker 5: Isaac's happy.
- 44:43Speaker 4: We're all happy. Who was upset that the Patriots won?
- 44:45Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 44:45Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 44:46Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 44:46Speaker 9: Oh, okay.
- 44:46Speaker 4: You guys didn't hear that.
- 44:47Speaker 10: I think he was talking about me because he said
- 44:49Speaker 10: that Josh Allen fanboy or something like that.
- 44:51Speaker 4: Oh, you.
- 44:53Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 44:53Speaker 4: You.
- 44:55Speaker 10: I couldn't totally understand, but maybe.
- 44:57Speaker 1: How bad did that pass you through? You know, underneath him,
- 45:00Speaker 1: upset bar. Be careful, Fred.
- 45:03Speaker 10: They don't like it when you criticize the refs on Twitter.
- 45:05Speaker 10: They don't like that.
- 45:07Speaker 5: Was he in or out of the tackle box?
- 45:09Speaker 10: So they said he was out of the tackle box.
- 45:11Speaker 4: They said he was out of the box.
- 45:12Speaker 1: But the explanation on the field didn't say that.
- 45:14Speaker 10: Yeah, the explanation was that he was out of the
- 45:16Speaker 10: tackle box in the past.
- 45:17Speaker 4: To reach the line of scrimmage. And there was a receiver, like,
- 45:22Speaker 4: you know me. I err on the side of it's
- 45:24Speaker 4: intentional grounding. If it were up to me in my league,
- 45:28Speaker 4: there would be two or three intentional groundings.
- 45:30Speaker 3: He intentionally grounded that ball.
- 45:33Speaker 11: Yes.
- 45:33Speaker 4: I don't think there's any question about it. The way
- 45:36Speaker 4: they call it, that's never intentional grounding.
- 45:38Speaker 5: I know.
- 45:39Speaker 4: Which I think stinks. I think the league has got
- 45:42Speaker 4: it wrong. I think that that should be intentional grounding.
- 45:44Speaker 4: That's like the definition of it. He was doing nothing
- 45:47Speaker 4: but trying.
- 45:48Speaker 10: To avoid a loss.
- 45:49Speaker 7: I know.
- 45:50Speaker 10: Avoid a safety.
- 45:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:51Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 45:51Speaker 4: That's all he was trying to do.
- 45:53Speaker 2: That was obvious, but there would be a play like
- 45:56Speaker 2: that that would be gray area, and it's like, you know,
- 45:59Speaker 2: there was a player.
- 45:59Speaker 5: Kind of near. And they don't want the refs judging intent.
- 46:04Speaker 4: Shakir is, like, in the general vicinity, but not close
- 46:08Speaker 4: enough to make a play. He was, like, 10 yards
- 46:09Speaker 4: away from the ball. And how would he know?
- 46:10Speaker 5: His back was to the play.
- 46:12Speaker 4: No, well, that's not the, you know, but that doesn't
- 46:14Speaker 4: matter because if, like, so should it not count if
- 46:17Speaker 4: he actually threw it right to Shakir and he ran
- 46:19Speaker 4: for a touchdown? Should it not count because he didn't
- 46:21Speaker 4: know he was there?
- 46:21Speaker 5: I thought he was borderline out of the tackle box.
- 46:24Speaker 4: Yeah, well, there was also a receiver in the quote-unquote
- 46:27Speaker 4: NFL vicinity, which I think is garbage because it was
- 46:30Speaker 4: not close.
- 46:31Speaker 3: It's funny, you have to come up with enough factors
- 46:34Speaker 3: to prove it was intentional.
- 46:35Speaker 1: But you can't determine intent.
- 46:37Speaker 4: I think they should just take the rule out of
- 46:38Speaker 4: the book or call it like they should.
- 46:40Speaker 2: But what a dumb decision to do that. I mean,
- 46:42Speaker 2: like Ravel said, that's... He easily could have been a
- 46:45Speaker 2: pick six.
- 46:46Speaker 10: I mean, every week he does something like that.
- 46:49Speaker 4: That was a really bad video.
- 46:50Speaker 10: I would say, like, seven out of ten times he
- 46:52Speaker 10: gets away with it, like he did on Sunday. And
- 46:54Speaker 10: it blows my mind how often he gets away with it.
- 46:57Speaker 10: You know, like, he had to throw it in the
- 46:59Speaker 10: Texans game where he arm punted the ball right to
- 47:02Speaker 10: the Texans.
- 47:03Speaker 4: Yeah, that was a lot different than this.
- 47:04Speaker 10: And he dropped it.
- 47:06Speaker 4: This is just an egregiously, like, reckless play with the football.
- 47:09Speaker 1: It's kind of like throwing pitch behind a score behind
- 47:12Speaker 1: a score.
- 47:13Speaker 4: Oh, no, I think the one in Houston, I think
- 47:15Speaker 4: he thinks the guy's going in and the guy goes
- 47:17Speaker 4: out and he might have been wrong. He might have
- 47:19Speaker 4: read the coverage wrong, but I don't think he threw
- 47:21Speaker 4: the ball to Lassiter on purpose. This play he threw
- 47:24Speaker 4: on purpose. To Fred's point, he has no idea who's there.
- 47:27Speaker 10: I mean, he makes a lot of those plays and
- 47:30Speaker 10: a lot of times they work too, which is why
- 47:32Speaker 10: he keeps doing it.
- 47:34Speaker 4: And you're welcome for letting everybody know about the rules,
- 47:37Speaker 4: by the way, and the Marcus Jones play. I made
- 47:39Speaker 4: sure everybody was up to speed on that.
- 47:41Speaker 5: You're welcome. I didn't know that rule. I didn't know
- 47:44Speaker 5: that rule.
- 47:44Speaker 10: Paul and I did.
- 47:47Speaker 7: I didn't know.
- 47:48Speaker 5: But it's kind of a weird rule.
- 47:50Speaker 4: This is still Patriots ball.
- 47:51Speaker 2: No matter what you do on that play offensively, you
- 47:55Speaker 2: can't lose.
- 47:56Speaker 4: That's the whole thing. That's why you picked it up.
- 48:00Speaker 5: It's a free play, but it seems like it's weird.
- 48:02Speaker 4: Do you know if he picked it up and ran
- 48:03Speaker 4: 90 yards down the sideline and then fumbled, the ball
- 48:05Speaker 4: would go back.
- 48:06Speaker 1: To the three-yard line?
- 48:07Speaker 2: I know, but if he got tackled and didn't fumble,
- 48:10Speaker 2: that's where you get the ball, the five-yard line.
- 48:12Speaker 1: So you can't lose it.
- 48:13Speaker 4: It's a free return.
- 48:14Speaker 2: It's a free play.
- 48:15Speaker 1: That's why you picked it up. But why do you
- 48:16Speaker 1: think that is?
- 48:17Speaker 4: Because otherwise, the guys covering the punt would try to
- 48:20Speaker 4: knock the ball into the returner and, like, bank it
- 48:23Speaker 4: off his leg or something, and then they can recover
- 48:24Speaker 4: the fumble.
- 48:25Speaker 1: Okay. That's good. I like that. That's good context, Paul.
- 48:28Speaker 1: I didn't think about that.
- 48:31Speaker 10: It just seems like such a weird rule.
- 48:32Speaker 4: Why do they have four downs to get a first down?
- 48:35Speaker 10: It's not that obvious, Paul, but I am surprised by
- 48:40Speaker 10: how many people, including the referee on the field, who
- 48:44Speaker 10: pointed Bill's ball. And I was like, no, no, no, no, no.
- 48:48Speaker 4: Including guys who have been in the arena.
- 48:50Speaker 5: 90% of the Bills and Patriots. I thought it was.
- 48:53Speaker 10: The two people that knew that it was Patriots ball
- 48:56Speaker 10: were Marcus Jones and Paul.
- 48:57Speaker 4: Right.
- 48:58Speaker 10: But the thing is.
- 49:00Speaker 1: Probably Jeremy Springer.
- 49:02Speaker 10: They were pointing Bill's ball, and I was like, your
- 49:04Speaker 10: job is to referee the game.
- 49:06Speaker 4: The referee did signal Buffalo ball.
- 49:09Speaker 1: How do you not know that?
- 49:10Speaker 10: That was crazy.
- 49:11Speaker 4: Because when I saw it, when it initially happened, all
- 49:15Speaker 4: of us, we got Jack and Troy and Mike and I,
- 49:17Speaker 4: we're like, oh, and then... I immediately said, it's going
- 49:21Speaker 4: to still be Patriots ball. But then I see the
- 49:24Speaker 4: referee doing this and I'm like, did I not see that?
- 49:28Speaker 4: I said, did Buffalo not touch this?
- 49:30Speaker 10: Same thing happened to me.
- 49:31Speaker 4: Because I thought for a second I was seeing something.
- 49:33Speaker 2: But to what you said, yes, you don't want to
- 49:36Speaker 2: have the That's just my guess. You don't want to
- 49:39Speaker 2: have the team being able to knock it into the
- 49:41Speaker 2: player and then just recover. But I think once the
- 49:45Speaker 2: returning team has possession of it, even if it's at,
- 49:48Speaker 2: then it.
- 49:49Speaker 5: Shouldn't be a free play.
- 49:50Speaker 4: But now you're getting to your thing again. So, like,
- 49:53Speaker 4: what does the referee, like, what's possession?
- 49:57Speaker 11: Well.
- 49:57Speaker 4: Now, this play, he clearly had the ball. He clearly
- 50:00Speaker 4: had the ball and was starting to run, and then
- 50:02Speaker 4: he got fumbled.
- 50:02Speaker 1: That's possession.
- 50:04Speaker 4: But what if he just picks the ball up? That's possession, too.
- 50:08Speaker 4: And then gets the ball knocked out.
- 50:09Speaker 5: Well, it depends.
- 50:11Speaker 2: Then it becomes a judgment. Did he have full possession?
- 50:14Speaker 2: Did he have the ball and make a football move?
- 50:17Speaker 2: Just like a wide receiver who just caught the ball,
- 50:20Speaker 2: gets hit.
- 50:21Speaker 5: They say, no, that wasn't possession.
- 50:23Speaker 3: I was so used to the Patriots over the first
- 50:25Speaker 3: three weeks making stupid plays that I just went right
- 50:27Speaker 3: to that place.
- 50:28Speaker 2: I can guarantee if Bill Polian was on the sidelines
- 50:31Speaker 2: still for the Bills, that rule change would be coming.
- 50:34Speaker 4: So I will guarantee the opposite. that if that play
- 50:38Speaker 4: had happened the other way and the Patriots had punted
- 50:41Speaker 4: and the Bills hit it and then the Bills guy
- 50:45Speaker 4: had come over and fumbled, we'd be screaming for legislation.
- 50:47Speaker 5: I'm sure we would. Do you think the Bills fans are?
- 50:50Speaker 13: No.
- 50:51Speaker 1: Okay.
- 50:51Speaker 4: I think they're still mad at their team, as you
- 50:53Speaker 4: pointed out.
- 50:53Speaker 2: They are.
- 50:54Speaker 4: They are. That's the difference.
- 50:55Speaker 5: Okay, Bill's fans are better than Patriots.
- 50:57Speaker 4: No, they're pouting. I actually called them losers. You asked
- 51:00Speaker 4: me why they're feeling like that. Because they're used to it.
- 51:03Speaker 4: That's what I said. If you recall, I can have
- 51:05Speaker 4: it read back to you.
- 51:06Speaker 10: They're a very arrogant fan base for a fan base.
- 51:09Speaker 4: For a fan base that's never won anything.
- 51:11Speaker 1: Right.
- 51:11Speaker 10: That's the part that I think, like, shocks me so
- 51:14Speaker 10: much is, like, you guys could be the lovable losers. Like,
- 51:17Speaker 10: losing the Super Bowl four times in a row, we
- 51:19Speaker 10: would feel bad about that. So I was in the 1900s.
- 51:21Speaker 5: I reposted your thing, and I just said, how is
- 51:23Speaker 5: this not... Got to be careful about that.
- 51:26Speaker 4: Grounding.
- 51:27Speaker 2: Yeah. I didn't say this isn't grounding. I said, how
- 51:29Speaker 2: is this not grounding? And Bill's fans were like right
- 51:33Speaker 2: on it. They're like bots.
- 51:34Speaker 10: Bill bots.
- 51:36Speaker 4: They probably are bots.
- 51:37Speaker 1: Everything else on the site is bots on that.
- 51:39Speaker 4: They search things.
- 51:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 51:41Speaker 10: They search Bill's related content.
- 51:42Speaker 4: So what were they all saying? There's no charge to
- 51:44Speaker 4: charge a box? That's what the rule says.
- 51:46Speaker 5: But then there was this whole debate.
- 51:49Speaker 2: I started a firestorm because.
- 51:52Speaker 5: You know, like, viral.
- 51:53Speaker 10: Well, that's usually what you do.
- 51:54Speaker 5: No, I usually don't.
- 51:57Speaker 3: Can I ask you guys real quick just about what
- 51:58Speaker 3: your perspective was.
- 51:59Speaker 1: On the last interception that he threw?
- 52:01Speaker 3: How egregious was that in stadium?
- 52:04Speaker 1: Yeah, you didn't have to do that.
- 52:07Speaker 4: It was a terrible play.
- 52:08Speaker 5: Terrible play.
- 52:09Speaker 4: He had the guy open. Then he gets flushed by
- 52:12Speaker 4: Draymond Jones. And he ridiculously just assumes, after I spin
- 52:17Speaker 4: and reset, I'm not going to look. He's still going
- 52:20Speaker 4: to be open. That's a dumb play.
- 52:22Speaker 1: Look at this.
- 52:23Speaker 4: Highlights middle.
- 52:24Speaker 1: Look at how.
- 52:24Speaker 10: Covered he is. It's man, and Marcus Jones has... palmer
- 52:29Speaker 10: and man coverage and you can see woodson's in the
- 52:31Speaker 10: middle of.
- 52:31Speaker 4: The field open right there but but now.
- 52:34Speaker 10: We ain't open anymore because woodson was reading the quarterback
- 52:37Speaker 10: and by the time he got back to it woodson's
- 52:39Speaker 10: over there to make the play so.
- 52:41Speaker 4: Plus there's like a i just i think there was
- 52:43Speaker 4: over a minute still left.
- 52:44Speaker 10: And they had all and they had all three timeouts
- 52:46Speaker 10: and only needed the.
- 52:47Speaker 4: Field goal right what they were trying to do was
- 52:50Speaker 4: get the field goal locked up, and now let's work
- 52:53Speaker 4: on the clock as we try to score a touchdown. Which,
- 52:56Speaker 4: to me, is not sound strategy. That's not good game management.
- 53:02Speaker 4: I agree. I like Josh Allen. I don't think he's overrated,
- 53:06Speaker 4: but that's the knock on him. He does things like
- 53:09Speaker 4: that inexplicably at times, and that costs them a chance
- 53:12Speaker 4: to at least tie the game. Did you have any
- 53:15Speaker 4: doubt that they were going to get in field goal
- 53:16Speaker 4: range at the end of the game?
- 53:17Speaker 19: No.
- 53:19Speaker 5: I was hoping they wouldn't.
- 53:20Speaker 4: I didn't say what you were hoping for.
- 53:22Speaker 2: I did not have a defeatist attitude.
- 53:26Speaker 5: No, I did not.
- 53:26Speaker 4: But that's not a defeatist attitude. I would have called
- 53:29Speaker 4: that a win for the Patriots defense.
- 53:31Speaker 5: I know they're going to get it. To me, that's
- 53:33Speaker 5: a defeatist attitude.
- 53:34Speaker 10: That's a lot of fans.
- 53:35Speaker 4: But I don't really think that's defeatism. I think that's
- 53:37Speaker 4: reality in the NFL. As teams in that situation, I
- 53:40Speaker 4: would say nine times out of ten, The guy might
- 53:42Speaker 4: miss the field goal, but nine times out of ten,
- 53:44Speaker 4: they're going to get a field goal opportunity. And that
- 53:46Speaker 4: was only because of Josh Allen's impatience that they didn't.
- 53:48Speaker 10: It's the word I was about to use. We picked
- 53:52Speaker 10: on Drake May for three weeks for being impatient and
- 53:54Speaker 10: not taking profits.
- 53:56Speaker 4: And the way the Patriots played the.
- 53:58Speaker 10: Game defensively, they outlasted him. He was looking for the
- 54:03Speaker 10: big play.
- 54:05Speaker 4: I think that's a really good comp.
- 54:06Speaker 1: Alex in Philadelphia.
- 54:07Speaker 5: What's up, Alex?
- 54:10Speaker 7: Hey, guys.
- 54:10Speaker 14: Great win all around. I'm just so happy this team
- 54:13Speaker 14: just showed heart. Big props to the defense. I mean,
- 54:16Speaker 14: we just were talking about Josh Allen right now. But
- 54:19Speaker 14: this defense came up with big play after big play
- 54:21Speaker 14: when they needed it, even with all the injuries. And
- 54:23Speaker 14: I think that's something that just all of us are
- 54:25Speaker 14: super happy about.
- 54:26Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought they played well, too.
- 54:29Speaker 14: Yeah. One negative thing I will say, though, I do
- 54:33Speaker 14: think Josh called a good game.
- 54:34Speaker 20: I really do.
- 54:35Speaker 14: But I feel like we must have hit second and
- 54:37Speaker 14: two like maybe five.
- 54:38Speaker 18: Or six times on Sunday.
- 54:40Speaker 14: And I think every single time it was some screen
- 54:42Speaker 14: or some draw.
- 54:43Speaker 1: And I felt like– It's better than a quarterback sneak.
- 54:45Speaker 4: It wasn't any of either one of those. They just
- 54:49Speaker 4: kept running it on second and two. But they weren't
- 54:51Speaker 4: draws and they weren't screens.
- 54:52Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 54:54Speaker 4: I think there was three of them in the second
- 54:56Speaker 4: half that they had an eight-yard run, at least two.
- 55:00Speaker 4: An eight-yard run for Stevenson, followed by nothing for Stevenson,
- 55:03Speaker 4: nothing for Stevenson. And I was just kind of frustrated
- 55:06Speaker 4: with that. But overall, I thought Josh called a great game.
- 55:09Speaker 4: I thought all the stuff that Evan said about the
- 55:11Speaker 4: different looks that they had in the run game and
- 55:15Speaker 4: some of the formations, I think having Raritan back helped.
- 55:18Speaker 4: I think that gave them some options with the tight
- 55:20Speaker 4: ends that they didn't have the week before. I I
- 55:23Speaker 4: thought they had a really good plan. Now, it might
- 55:25Speaker 4: just be because of Buffalo. I don't know.
- 55:27Speaker 10: That one-run sequence, second-down stuff, third-down stuff, where they went
- 55:31Speaker 10: back to stagnant, we're just going to run the ball
- 55:33Speaker 10: right at the defense, that was the one time where
- 55:36Speaker 10: you could nitpick him. Other than that, I just thought
- 55:39Speaker 10: it was remarkably better. And I never said the defense
- 55:41Speaker 10: played bad. I just specifically harped on the coverage not
- 55:45Speaker 10: being what I was really impressed about with the defense.
- 55:48Speaker 4: That's it. Well, let me tell you. It's nice that
- 55:50Speaker 4: Evan plays the role of Paul every once in a while.
- 55:53Speaker 3: To explain our point of view, watching the.
- 55:56Speaker 1: TV copy, what we're seeing is Josh Allen go, Huh?
- 56:00Speaker 17: Huh?
- 56:01Speaker 14: Huh?
- 56:02Speaker 1: And so not being able to see the whole field.
- 56:05Speaker 3: I mean, you guys have a little bit better vantage
- 56:07Speaker 3: point of kind of getting to see the whole picture
- 56:09Speaker 3: where we're only really seeing how Josh Allen reacts.
- 56:11Speaker 5: Plus he watches the game four times afterwards.
- 56:13Speaker 4: See, I would just look at it as saying I
- 56:16Speaker 4: didn't necessarily think the coverage was great because for the
- 56:18Speaker 4: most part he was completing all the passes. But what
- 56:21Speaker 4: I would agree with Mike about is I think they
- 56:24Speaker 4: were making him do it the hard way.
- 56:26Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 56:26Speaker 4: They weren't making it easy for him. They had a
- 56:28Speaker 4: couple of breakdowns, like the Shakir play was inexcusable.
- 56:31Speaker 1: I forgot about that one. I didn't even put that
- 56:34Speaker 1: on my list.
- 56:34Speaker 4: But that should have been a sack. But you got
- 56:37Speaker 4: Josh Allen on that play. That happens. Like, he's great.
- 56:41Speaker 4: And then, you know, the Keon Coleman touchdown, that's way
- 56:44Speaker 4: too easy.
- 56:44Speaker 10: I think there were certain things that, you know, with
- 56:49Speaker 10: Alan that I've, I find interesting about how he reads
- 56:51Speaker 10: the field. So he reads like body position and leverage
- 56:54Speaker 10: a lot. So like he can't, he comes off reads
- 56:58Speaker 10: really quickly. So like if they're, if they're running like
- 57:00Speaker 10: an out into an outside leverage player where the route
- 57:04Speaker 10: is breaking into the corner, uh, he won't, he'll just
- 57:07Speaker 10: go right past it. Whereas sometimes like your receiver just
- 57:10Speaker 10: wins on the route. Like, even though the corner has
- 57:14Speaker 10: favorable leverage, like the receiver might just win on the
- 57:16Speaker 10: route anyways, and he's already on to the next read.
- 57:20Speaker 10: So I thought he was a little bit like sped
- 57:22Speaker 10: up in this game in that sense where like, he
- 57:24Speaker 10: didn't hang on the reads as long as he sometimes does.
- 57:28Speaker 1: Kincaid kind of broke free a couple of times late too.
- 57:31Speaker 10: Well, on the two point conversion, he's wide open.
- 57:33Speaker 4: There's no one covering him.
- 57:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 57:35Speaker 10: A little like, you know, delay release and got lost
- 57:38Speaker 10: in the trash. But yeah, I thought that part of it,
- 57:42Speaker 10: they did a nice job coverage wise was like they
- 57:45Speaker 10: stayed home on their leverage and he's just like off it.
- 57:48Speaker 10: Like as soon as he sees that that corner is
- 57:50Speaker 10: sitting outside an outbreaking route, he's on to the next thing.
- 57:53Speaker 4: And that won the game. Mike, the two-point conversion stop
- 57:56Speaker 4: won the game. It's a big one. It's tied, 28-28,
- 58:00Speaker 4: or whatever, 27, I don't know.
- 58:01Speaker 2: All right, food's here, so we're going to take a break.

- 1:00:24Speaker 20: How are you well how about you good thank you
- 1:00:27Speaker 20: um given efton's exploits in the game um might that
- 1:00:32Speaker 20: earn him some more game reps.
- 1:00:36Speaker 22: Of course you know i mean that's what happens i
- 1:00:38Speaker 22: mean guys continue to uh take advantage of their opportunities
- 1:00:41Speaker 22: they get more opportunities i mean we've been you know
- 1:00:44Speaker 22: finding ways to work ches in there previously you know
- 1:00:47Speaker 22: again and it's a it's a balance but uh certainly
- 1:00:51Speaker 22: did a lot of things well, and I know that
- 1:00:53Speaker 22: he'll continue to do things well for us and continue
- 1:00:57Speaker 22: to know a bunch of different spots.
- 1:01:00Speaker 6: Mike, you have one of the better records in the
- 1:01:03Speaker 6: league as a head coach right now when Vegas tabs
- 1:01:07Speaker 6: you guys as underdogs going into a game. Is there
- 1:01:10Speaker 6: anything about that underdog label that you relish in when
- 1:01:14Speaker 6: you're going into a game?
- 1:01:17Speaker 22: I mean, again, I Just try to get the team
- 1:01:19Speaker 22: prepared each and every week the best that I can.
- 1:01:24Speaker 22: Get them to understand what it is that they need
- 1:01:25Speaker 22: to do to win the game, what we all need
- 1:01:28Speaker 22: to do, and the role that we all play in
- 1:01:30Speaker 22: the game.
- 1:01:31Speaker 7: So that's all we try to do each and every week.
- 1:01:36Speaker 23: Mike, with Drake, obviously he got one of the game
- 1:01:38Speaker 23: balls after the win.
- 1:01:40Speaker 14: What was.
- 1:01:41Speaker 23: And your message in the locker room was kind of
- 1:01:42Speaker 23: like never lost faith. Just what was it like to
- 1:01:45Speaker 23: see him kind of go out in that game?
- 1:01:47Speaker 7: The thing to me is we fumbled the snap. It's
- 1:01:51Speaker 7: a mistake. We picked the ball up and we stay
- 1:01:54Speaker 7: alive and we hit an X play.
- 1:01:56Speaker 22: So I think that really has to exemplify what we
- 1:01:59Speaker 22: want to be and who we want to be as
- 1:02:00Speaker 22: a team and who we want to be as an organization.
- 1:02:02Speaker 22: There's going to be things that happen, things that we
- 1:02:05Speaker 22: don't plan for. But certainly the play isn't over. The
- 1:02:10Speaker 22: game isn't over. And I think that really sums up
- 1:02:14Speaker 22: everything that we want to do. So I think that
- 1:02:15Speaker 22: was a huge moment for us. I just said, hey,
- 1:02:18Speaker 22: pick the ball up and go try to find a
- 1:02:20Speaker 22: way to make a play, a positive play, but also,
- 1:02:23Speaker 22: you know, figure out why the quarterback center exchange is,
- 1:02:27Speaker 22: you know, we had the ball on the ground twice.
- 1:02:30Speaker 10: Did you come to a conclusion on the two center
- 1:02:32Speaker 10: exchanges on the ground?
- 1:02:35Speaker 22: Well, I mean, we have to practice it and continue
- 1:02:36Speaker 22: to practice it. And, you know, whether, you know, the
- 1:02:40Speaker 22: center's moving– laterally he has a block that he has
- 1:02:43Speaker 22: a guy off his body and he's moving one way
- 1:02:46Speaker 22: so the quarterback excited on the goal line to try
- 1:02:48Speaker 22: to get off the goal line. I think you see
- 1:02:51Speaker 22: those plays down there and I know what he's thinking
- 1:02:56Speaker 22: is that he has to get off the line. I
- 1:02:57Speaker 22: mean you saw what happened with Jaden Daniels and those
- 1:03:00Speaker 22: things when the defensive lineman has taken all the ball
- 1:03:02Speaker 22: on the goal line and they're attacking and sometimes things
- 1:03:06Speaker 22: happen so I know he's trying to get off the
- 1:03:07Speaker 22: line of scrimmage in our haste to get off the
- 1:03:12Speaker 22: line of scrimmage, and we have to stay in there
- 1:03:14Speaker 22: and secure the snap.
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: We will.
- 1:03:16Speaker 7: We'll continue to focus on those things.
- 1:03:18Speaker 22: We have to be good in critical situations, short yardage,
- 1:03:23Speaker 22: low red zone, things when it gets tough, we have
- 1:03:25Speaker 22: to be really good.
- 1:03:27Speaker 18: Mike, we saw Eric Hunter at Gunner this week.
- 1:03:30Speaker 4: How did that come to be, and how did you
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: feel like you performed in that role?
- 1:03:33Speaker 7: I thought he did fantastic.
- 1:03:34Speaker 22: I thought Eric's really progressed every day since he's been here.
- 1:03:38Speaker 22: I think Jeremy and Tom have done a fantastic job
- 1:03:41Speaker 22: of of working with him and our special teams, and
- 1:03:45Speaker 22: he's trying to work with our defensive coaches and just
- 1:03:48Speaker 22: continue to a lot of new things for Eric.
- 1:03:51Speaker 7: And, you know, he's willing. He's got a really good length,
- 1:03:55Speaker 7: and he can run.
- 1:03:56Speaker 22: And, you know, we just figured, you know, as we
- 1:04:01Speaker 22: get guys that are down or we need bodies or
- 1:04:04Speaker 22: DBs have to play or go down that, you know,
- 1:04:07Speaker 22: why don't we give Eric a try? And he didn't disappoint.
- 1:04:12Speaker 24: Like you mentioned last night that when you're playing Josh Allen,
- 1:04:14Speaker 24: you have to be aggressive when you're asked about going
- 1:04:16Speaker 24: forward and forward down. Given the way you guys performed offensively,
- 1:04:20Speaker 24: is that aggressive mindset one you want to take into
- 1:04:24Speaker 24: every game?
- 1:04:25Speaker 22: I mean, we always do. I mean, again, it's just
- 1:04:27Speaker 22: the way that the game's going. I feel like how
- 1:04:30Speaker 22: things are unfolding and what's going to give us the
- 1:04:34Speaker 22: best opportunity to to score and how many points we
- 1:04:39Speaker 22: may or may not need, but certainly always want to
- 1:04:41Speaker 22: be aggressive and not reckless. And if we believe in
- 1:04:44Speaker 22: the play and we believe in, you know, our ability
- 1:04:47Speaker 22: to convert those chances into touchdowns.
- 1:04:50Speaker 24: Was your approach at the end of the half there,
- 1:04:53Speaker 24: was that also related to going against Josh Allen where
- 1:04:56Speaker 24: you guys are throwing, I think there were 16 seconds
- 1:04:58Speaker 24: left in the second?
- 1:04:59Speaker 7: A lot of timeouts.
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:05:00Speaker 22: I mean, we had a couple of timeouts and we
- 1:05:02Speaker 22: thought we could try to you know, hit a play
- 1:05:04Speaker 22: and then maybe, you know, hit two plays and be
- 1:05:06Speaker 22: able to call a timeout and try a long field goal.
- 1:05:09Speaker 7: And it didn't work out.
- 1:05:10Speaker 22: I mean, you could see what some teams have done
- 1:05:13Speaker 22: with just seven or eight or ten seconds. You know,
- 1:05:15Speaker 22: they hit a play down the field, call a timeout,
- 1:05:19Speaker 22: and hit a long field goal. So, you know, we
- 1:05:22Speaker 22: want to be able to, you know, take advantage of
- 1:05:26Speaker 22: every scoring opportunity.
- 1:05:28Speaker 7: That we get, but also be mindful.
- 1:05:29Speaker 22: Of, you know, being really smart with the ball and,
- 1:05:33Speaker 22: you know, Rome knows that he's got to secure that catch,
- 1:05:36Speaker 22: and we'll call a timeout and then figure out what
- 1:05:38Speaker 22: the next play is.
- 1:05:38Speaker 23: Speaking of Romeo, just obviously to be able to bounce
- 1:05:42Speaker 23: back and not have the two fourth-down conversion catches and
- 1:05:44Speaker 23: then two touchdowns, what was it like to see him
- 1:05:47Speaker 23: come out there and perform?
- 1:05:49Speaker 7: It was great, and I think that.
- 1:05:52Speaker 22: Rome puts a lot of pressure on himself to perform,
- 1:05:56Speaker 22: like most players and most people that try to excel
- 1:05:59Speaker 22: at a high level, and so I think that for
- 1:06:01Speaker 22: him to not have a great play and to be
- 1:06:04Speaker 22: able to come back is everything that we want to
- 1:06:06Speaker 22: be able to do.
- 1:06:07Speaker 7: We have the power to choose our response.
- 1:06:10Speaker 22: When things happen, there's a moment in there where we
- 1:06:15Speaker 22: get to choose. And so I think his response to
- 1:06:19Speaker 22: some of those plays have been really good.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: Mike, Mac Hollins didn't finish the game.
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: Understanding these things can shift, you know, Just being this
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: close to the game, what is the sense of the
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: severity of what he's doing?
- 1:06:31Speaker 7: I think we'll probably know more here in a little bit.
- 1:06:33Speaker 22: I don't know if he'll be able to practice here
- 1:06:34Speaker 22: for a couple days, but again, I don't have every detail.
- 1:06:38Speaker 22: I'll get in there with Jim here afterwards and kind
- 1:06:41Speaker 22: of see where we are and then make sure we
- 1:06:43Speaker 22: have guys that are ready to go and everybody's preparing
- 1:06:46Speaker 22: as a starter. We know the energy that Mack brings,
- 1:06:50Speaker 22: and the next guy has to be ready to go.
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: And then one defensive question, Kincaid had been very productive.
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: Leading into this game.
- 1:06:58Speaker 14: And obviously you guys limited his production of game.
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: I know it's never one thing, but what are some
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: of the factors.
- 1:07:04Speaker 22: That you think awareness, you know, I think that, uh,
- 1:07:07Speaker 22: you know, Spillane did a nice job. Uh, one play,
- 1:07:10Speaker 22: they tried to hide them over there on the line
- 1:07:11Speaker 22: of scrimmage. It's not where it usually hangs out. Um,
- 1:07:15Speaker 22: and so he ran the over and Spillane was able
- 1:07:17Speaker 22: to carry him. I think just long enough for, for
- 1:07:20Speaker 22: Josh to go in a different direction. Um, You know,
- 1:07:24Speaker 22: felt like coverage all day, being able to mix zone
- 1:07:27Speaker 22: and mix man, but having an awareness of where he
- 1:07:30Speaker 22: is and not letting him just run free.
- 1:07:31Speaker 9: Going back to the postgame video, the message you had
- 1:07:35Speaker 9: for Drake May, obviously you have his back, but to
- 1:07:39Speaker 9: paraphrase what you said, we're not taking any more stuff.
- 1:07:42Speaker 9: How important was it to you for him to know
- 1:07:44Speaker 9: not only did you have his back this week, but
- 1:07:47Speaker 9: the rest of the team also still had his back
- 1:07:49Speaker 9: as well?
- 1:07:50Speaker 7: I mean, I think that all goes without saying. It just...
- 1:07:54Speaker 7: We spent a lot of time together. Everybody understands.
- 1:07:58Speaker 22: How the quarterback has to perform in this league for
- 1:08:01Speaker 22: teams to have success. Everybody does have his back, starting
- 1:08:06Speaker 22: with me and everybody all the way down. Again, Drake
- 1:08:09Speaker 22: wants to be as perfect as possible. We know that
- 1:08:12Speaker 22: that's not possible.
- 1:08:13Speaker 7: We have to be precise. We have to lead the
- 1:08:14Speaker 7: offense and be able to distribute the football.
- 1:08:18Speaker 22: Again, not just focusing on one single receiver, being able
- 1:08:23Speaker 22: to spread the football around. If it's not there and
- 1:08:25Speaker 22: he doesn't feel like it's there down the field or
- 1:08:27Speaker 22: whatever it may be, finding the check down.
- 1:08:31Speaker 7: We get a lot of positive things. We still got
- 1:08:35Speaker 7: to take care of the football.
- 1:08:36Speaker 22: We got to do a better job with the pocket.
- 1:08:38Speaker 22: There were some good pockets. Every week is going to
- 1:08:42Speaker 22: be a good front. That's what happens in the National
- 1:08:45Speaker 22: Football League.
- 1:08:46Speaker 24: It's Legal Seafood's Fresh Take of the Week.
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: Legal Seafoods is giving fans a true taste of Boston
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: this season as the official seafood restaurant. of the New

- 1:09:16Speaker 4: place New England Patriots.
- 1:09:18Speaker 5: Oh, that's a prediction?
- 1:09:19Speaker 4: I'm calling it now. Who are the Bills playing? They're
- 1:09:21Speaker 4: at the ROMs.
- 1:09:22Speaker 5: At the ROMs.
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: On a Monday night next week. And I'm not telling
- 1:09:25Speaker 4: you the Bills can't go out and bounce back and
- 1:09:28Speaker 4: win a game against the Rams. But I'm going to
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: tell you, I think Joe Brady won't have them ready
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: and they will lose. Patriots will take care of business
- 1:09:35Speaker 4: at home against the Raiders.
- 1:09:36Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: And they'll be tied and the Patriots will have beaten Buffalo.
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: So at least on paper, the Patriots will be first place.
- 1:09:43Speaker 7: Nice.
- 1:09:44Speaker 10: I like that one. That was a good one.
- 1:09:45Speaker 4: So fresh take, Paul.
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: So fresh and so good. Because that's a take.
- 1:09:50Speaker 7: It is.
- 1:09:50Speaker 5: Boom. Yeah, that's a take.
- 1:09:52Speaker 11: Yeah, it's good.
- 1:09:52Speaker 5: Good.
- 1:09:53Speaker 7: You're welcome.
- 1:09:53Speaker 5: That's a Barthy take.
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: Nothing makes me feel better than when I get the
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: nod of approval from Evan.
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:09:59Speaker 10: I sense a little sarcasm there.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: Just a little bit.
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: All right. 855-PASS-500.
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: It's the Hotline Podcast at Patriots.com. Darius in Louisville writes,
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: and I agree with Fred.
- 1:10:10Speaker 5: That's why I'm reading your email.
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: Henderson's footwork was better. I think he should watch all
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: of B. John Robinson's film. Whatever drills he does, Henderson
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: needs to do those same drills because once he starts
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: seeing it better and jump cutting better, he will be nice.
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: Still not taking the job from Ramondre, but a good
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: one-two punch.
- 1:10:30Speaker 10: He had one inside the 10 that was, he avoided
- 1:10:32Speaker 10: a backfield penetrator.
- 1:10:33Speaker 4: And I was like, there you go.
- 1:10:35Speaker 10: And a couple of missed tackles in this game. He
- 1:10:37Speaker 10: had two, he had one off the first two games
- 1:10:40Speaker 10: that he played. So, um, Maybe steps. Maybe a little
- 1:10:43Speaker 10: bit better, but I think we still all agree that
- 1:10:46Speaker 10: he is what he is.
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: Yeah, but I thought he's saying that because we were
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: talking about individuals.
- 1:10:51Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: I thought he showed footwork in small spaces better than
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: I've seen so far.
- 1:10:57Speaker 10: Yeah, not specific ground, and there might have been one
- 1:10:59Speaker 10: other one. Uh, but normally when there's somebody in the
- 1:11:03Speaker 10: backfield like that, he's, he's going down and he was
- 1:11:05Speaker 10: able to stay on track and we'll actually, you know,
- 1:11:08Speaker 10: get off track and then get back on track. But, uh, yeah, no,
- 1:11:11Speaker 10: it was, uh, little baby steps to it with his usage,
- 1:11:15Speaker 10: I would say as well, like the end around the toss,
- 1:11:18Speaker 10: getting them out into some space, getting them out on
- 1:11:20Speaker 10: the edge a little bit more. So good.
- 1:11:23Speaker 5: What about wide receiver help? I mean, Hollins is hurt.
- 1:11:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's on the table.
- 1:11:28Speaker 5: They're listing him with a calf.
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: Any reports on that?
- 1:11:31Speaker 4: No.
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: Usually something will come out maybe yesterday when he gets
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: checked out. Usually no report's a good sign.
- 1:11:36Speaker 4: Yeah, I would agree, and I'm kind of feeling like that.
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: But Vrabel did say yesterday it was weird because he
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: was asked about Hollins specifically, and I felt kind of
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: downplayed it. We'll see. I don't think he's going to
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: be able to practice. for a couple of days, like
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: kind of seemed like a short term thing. And then,
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: you know, later on, several questions later, he was asked
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: about the possibility of where I think you're going with
- 1:11:57Speaker 4: this email, Fred, of going out to look for some help,
- 1:12:02Speaker 4: you know, on the free agent market or whatever on
- 1:12:04Speaker 4: the street. And he said, yeah, yeah, we're going to
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: explore that. You know, we're going to go back in
- 1:12:09Speaker 4: and explore that, I think is how he said it.
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: So it wasn't just like, yeah, we're always looking to
- 1:12:15Speaker 4: upgrade our team, which is generally the way coaches answer
- 1:12:17Speaker 4: those questions. This was, oh, no, we're going to explore that.
- 1:12:20Speaker 10: Well, maybe we just need bodies to practice.
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: Well, did you guys see anything?
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: I know it looked like Kyle Williams limped off on TV,
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: and it looked like Ramondre limped a little bit. We
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: saw Ramondre talk afterwards, but he seems okay.
- 1:12:32Speaker 10: Yeah, he seems fine. Matt Collins is really the only
- 1:12:35Speaker 10: one out of the game that I would say, you know,
- 1:12:38Speaker 10: you're concerned injury-wise about. But I think that a lot
- 1:12:40Speaker 10: of the times, like, don't get inflate. Like we don't
- 1:12:44Speaker 10: have enough healthy receivers to practice with. Like they're about
- 1:12:46Speaker 10: to sign Tyree kill. Like maybe they are. I don't,
- 1:12:48Speaker 10: I don't have any inside information, but I think that that's,
- 1:12:51Speaker 10: you know, sometimes when Brable says things like, yeah, we're,
- 1:12:55Speaker 10: we're going to have to look into that. It's really
- 1:12:57Speaker 10: just thinking.
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: About, I mean, Marvin Harrison's going to be here tomorrow.
- 1:12:59Speaker 5: Right.
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:13:00Speaker 10: It's really just thinking about bodies. You know, if AJ
- 1:13:02Speaker 10: Brown is on out there, Matt Collins isn't out there,
- 1:13:04Speaker 10: you know, they're starting to get a little bit thin.
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: They got Cameron Brayboy on the practice.
- 1:13:08Speaker 4: They do.
- 1:13:09Speaker 10: So they have Kyle Dixon.
- 1:13:12Speaker 5: Anthony writes in, happy we got a big win.
- 1:13:14Speaker 4: Listener of seven years.
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: Kind of greedy email, but my fiance and I are
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: getting married on the 17th of this month.
- 1:13:20Speaker 5: Congratulations.
- 1:13:22Speaker 4: Congrats.
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: I was wondering if we could get a couple t-shirts. Yeah,
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: we can do that. But you have to wear them
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: when you go down the aisle. That's the caveat, is
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: that you have to wear the T-shirts going down the aisle.
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: She has to come walk the aisle to the Mike
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: Dussault song.
- 1:13:38Speaker 5: Anthony Leon, email Matt.
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: If we can get their sizes, we'll get you a
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: couple T-shirts.
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: Brandon from L.A.
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: Is wondering that seeing Josh Allen's boneheaded interception has me
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: pondering That was exactly the type of.
- 1:13:56Speaker 5: Throw that Drake was throwing the first three weeks.
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: My question is, like Josh Allen, do we have concern
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: that the boneheaded interceptions at times will always be a
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: part of Drake May's game just like it is with
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: Josh's game?
- 1:14:08Speaker 4: Sure.
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: That's a good question.
- 1:14:10Speaker 10: I have more concerns about the fumbles.
- 1:14:13Speaker 25: Sure.
- 1:14:13Speaker 10: And I don't want to go all Felger and go
- 1:14:15Speaker 10: small hands on you, but... Like, I think managing fumbles
- 1:14:18Speaker 10: and managing ball security in the pocket is probably always
- 1:14:23Speaker 10: going to be a fine line that he is going
- 1:14:25Speaker 10: to have to walk. Like, I don't expect the turnovers,
- 1:14:28Speaker 10: the interceptions to follow him because they didn't last year.
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:14:31Speaker 10: He's not a.
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: Big stupid throw guy.
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: Like, early this season he's been stupid throw, but I
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: think he's more high throw guy.
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: Then stupid throw, if that makes sense. Yeah.
- 1:14:40Speaker 10: I mean, like last year, I didn't feel like he
- 1:14:42Speaker 10: was reckless with the football.
- 1:14:44Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: Just like he was like when he's holding it and
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: he's fumbling. Yeah.
- 1:14:47Speaker 10: Fumbles are something that are going to be a problem.
- 1:14:50Speaker 4: So we're in, you know, our two now.
- 1:14:52Speaker 7: Right.
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: So we, I think we sufficiently.
- 1:14:54Speaker 10: I had to go right out of the gate with it.
- 1:14:56Speaker 4: No, but like, you know, so the fumble thing, you know,
- 1:15:00Speaker 4: and we kept saying it wasn't perfect. Like we kept
- 1:15:02Speaker 4: talking about all the good things that they did. And we,
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: you know, we, we always use the calorie. It wasn't perfect.
- 1:15:06Speaker 4: There was some hiccups. So the fumble thing, and it's
- 1:15:10Speaker 4: not just... So he lost the ball on a strip
- 1:15:11Speaker 4: sack in the pocket. That's the thing I would be
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: most concerned about because that's the thing that happens sort of,
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: you know, every game generally you're going to have to
- 1:15:19Speaker 4: take a hit and make sure you hold on to
- 1:15:21Speaker 4: the football. And that's been a little bit of a trend.
- 1:15:24Speaker 12: But.
- 1:15:26Speaker 4: There were no fewer than four mishandled snaps in this game.
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: Two of them ended up on the ground. I think
- 1:15:30Speaker 4: they had three fumbles, officially. There were two others that
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: he double-clutched. I don't know if this is a Jared
- 1:15:36Speaker 4: Wilson thing, and he's not comfortable under center with Jared Wilson.
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: It looks to me, when you watch the replay, the
- 1:15:41Speaker 4: ball is getting up there. The one on the goal
- 1:15:43Speaker 4: line that he dropped, I think Vrabel basically all but
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: told you yesterday was on May. Like, he's trying to
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: get out of there real quick on the goal line.
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: He knows they're coming. And, you know, I... That's something
- 1:15:56Speaker 4: that needs to be addressed because that's, I don't know,
- 1:15:58Speaker 4: like the whole build thing, like, you know, we're just
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: trying to get the quarterback center exchange down. They haven't
- 1:16:03Speaker 4: gotten that down yet because it doesn't look right every time.
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: Brad in California writes in on this subject, said Drake
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: was so much better this week but still managed to
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: log a few fumbles. I saw that Tom Brady had
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: double-digit fumble seasons in four of his first six full seasons,
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: starting and then never again. I was too young to
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: remember those seasons, so I was just wondering, do you
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: guys remember Brady having a fumbling issue early on?
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: Yes, I do.
- 1:16:28Speaker 5: And what do you remember him doing.
- 1:16:30Speaker 4: To fix it? I'm not going to tell you what
- 1:16:33Speaker 4: I remember them doing to fix it, but I do
- 1:16:36Speaker 4: absolutely remember that he had a fumble issue.
- 1:16:38Speaker 10: Is this maybe related to a scandal that happened?
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: Maybe the ball?
- 1:16:41Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:16:42Speaker 10: I would say that the time management in the pocket.
- 1:16:47Speaker 4: Knowing.
- 1:16:49Speaker 10: when it's time to eat it, when it's time to abort,
- 1:16:52Speaker 10: when it's time to throw the ball on time, like
- 1:16:55Speaker 10: on the play that he fumbled on the conventional play
- 1:16:57Speaker 10: that I have a few takes on the snaps. he
- 1:17:01Speaker 10: he's got Chisholm opening over the middle of the field.
- 1:17:05Speaker 10: And so in his eyes are down in the field
- 1:17:07Speaker 10: and he's thinking, you know, I'm going to throw the
- 1:17:08Speaker 10: ball to Chisholm. And like, he just didn't sense that
- 1:17:12Speaker 10: the pocket was collapsing as quickly as it did. Now,
- 1:17:15Speaker 10: normally you would hope that the offensive line holds up.
- 1:17:17Speaker 10: They gave up pressure in three different places on that play. Now,
- 1:17:20Speaker 10: Ben Brown got, you know, hit in the face. I
- 1:17:23Speaker 10: know everybody's going to yell about that, but they, they overall,
- 1:17:27Speaker 10: I think that, you know, just time management and, And
- 1:17:29Speaker 10: understanding like when the play is breaking down in the
- 1:17:33Speaker 10: pocket is like something that is sort of a back
- 1:17:37Speaker 10: and forth with him a little bit when it comes
- 1:17:38Speaker 10: to that. Those types of fumbles like you got to
- 1:17:41Speaker 10: eat it or you got to throw it early to
- 1:17:44Speaker 10: Chisholm and just hope that Chisholm makes a play on
- 1:17:46Speaker 10: the ball coming across the middle of the field on
- 1:17:49Speaker 10: the on the snaps. So Jared Wilson has a cut
- 1:17:53Speaker 10: on his hand. He cut his hand last week against
- 1:17:56Speaker 10: the Jaguars. That was the blood fumble, as I'm calling it.
- 1:17:59Speaker 4: Blood ball.
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: He lost a pint on that ball.
- 1:18:04Speaker 10: He has a wrap around his snapping hand right now.
- 1:18:08Speaker 10: And so I wonder if maybe... That made something a
- 1:18:13Speaker 10: little bit off this week with the fumbles. Normally when
- 1:18:16Speaker 10: you talk about aborted snaps and things like that, it's
- 1:18:19Speaker 10: like the center's moving in one direction and the quarterback's moving.
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: In the other. And Vrabel talked about that as well yesterday.
- 1:18:24Speaker 10: That's usually the biggest problem. So those can be really,
- 1:18:28Speaker 10: really hard. Like, the center, if he's right-handed and he's
- 1:18:31Speaker 10: snapping with his right hand, but he's going left, and
- 1:18:33Speaker 10: so then he's pulling the ball with him as he's moving,
- 1:18:36Speaker 10: as he's snapping the football, and so then the ball
- 1:18:38Speaker 10: kind of isn't really centered on the quarterback's hands. That
- 1:18:43Speaker 10: can happen. But I wonder, you know, this whole cut
- 1:18:47Speaker 10: thing that he's got on his hand, it may be... know,
- 1:18:50Speaker 10: some of that is revenue.
- 1:18:51Speaker 4: I just feel like it's been an issue going back
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: to training camp. Under center snaps have been periodically, like
- 1:18:56Speaker 4: you see them like every once in a while, it's
- 1:18:58Speaker 4: like a double clutch. And I thought there were a
- 1:19:00Speaker 4: couple of those. The cut might be a part of
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: the problem now, but There's some... Oh, we're going to
- 1:19:06Speaker 4: get a little.
- 1:19:06Speaker 5: We just happen to have a ball here.
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: We're going to get a little football lesson.
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: I'm not going to snap at you for it.
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: So when the most centers snap, the nose of the
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: ball is going to the quarterback, right?
- 1:19:15Speaker 9: No.
- 1:19:16Speaker 4: No?
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: No.
- 1:19:17Speaker 5: Because I was thinking it should be like this.
- 1:19:19Speaker 4: That is how it is.
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:19:21Speaker 4: So the center snaps the ball and turns it.
- 1:19:23Speaker 5: Right, and turns it.
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:19:25Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:19:25Speaker 5: You never would.
- 1:19:26Speaker 4: You'd break a guy's hand.
- 1:19:27Speaker 5: I just want to make sure that that's happening.
- 1:19:28Speaker 4: What are we doing here?
- 1:19:29Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:19:30Speaker 5: Because you want the ball.
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: You know, hopefully laces up. But sometimes you have to
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: move it.
- 1:19:36Speaker 4: No, it'd be laces up every time.
- 1:19:37Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:19:38Speaker 4: Like dating back to, like, Pop Warner.
- 1:19:40Speaker 5: Yeah, it should be.
- 1:19:41Speaker 4: Yeah. No, it is. That's... As someone who spent some
- 1:19:45Speaker 4: time with his hand under a friend's face.
- 1:19:49Speaker 5: But I'm just wondering if that ball isn't coming out.
- 1:19:53Speaker 4: The way it should. I mean, the.
- 1:19:58Speaker 4: The goal of every snap is to have it come
- 1:20:01Speaker 4: up like that. Now, if it's a problem with the center,
- 1:20:04Speaker 4: it's some of the things that Evan talked about where
- 1:20:06Speaker 4: he's pulling to make a block, holding onto the ball,
- 1:20:09Speaker 4: and he's sort of pulling it away from the center.
- 1:20:11Speaker 4: Or there are rare occasions the ball just doesn't come
- 1:20:15Speaker 4: up at all. And sometimes that happens. Sometimes the ball
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: gets stuck in the, in the ground. Yeah. You know, or,
- 1:20:22Speaker 4: you know, like Brady used to, you know, famously complain
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: about the moisture down there.
- 1:20:28Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:20:29Speaker 4: So, but like, yes, the center takes the ball, rotates it.
- 1:20:34Speaker 4: So the laces are up. And when the ball hits
- 1:20:36Speaker 4: the quarterback's top hand, it should hit him on the laces.
- 1:20:39Speaker 4: Like literally every snap I ever took, And even though
- 1:20:44Speaker 4: I couldn't play, I still took the snap from the center.
- 1:20:47Speaker 4: And that's the way the ball gets snapped. If you
- 1:20:49Speaker 4: ever snap it, like, straight up like that, you'd kill
- 1:20:51Speaker 4: the guy's hands.
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: Like, I don't know if, like, how many people out
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: there actually have held an official NFL football pumped up.
- 1:21:00Speaker 5: It's hard as a rock.
- 1:21:02Speaker 4: I wonder if Brady ever has.
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: And the nose of.
- 1:21:05Speaker 5: The ball is really, really hard.
- 1:21:07Speaker 11: I would.
- 1:21:09Speaker 10: I would venture to say, and look, it's three years
- 1:21:11Speaker 10: into his NFL career, so at this point he's done
- 1:21:14Speaker 10: it enough, but you could probably count on two hands
- 1:21:18Speaker 10: the amount of times Drake May was under center at
- 1:21:20Speaker 10: North Carolina. I don't know how often he was under
- 1:21:22Speaker 10: center in high school. Some of these high schools still
- 1:21:25Speaker 10: run like old school wing tee offenses and stuff like that.
- 1:21:29Speaker 10: Georgia tended to be under center maybe a little bit
- 1:21:31Speaker 10: more than like your traditional college offense, but still. So
- 1:21:34Speaker 10: like these younger players, they just they don't grow up
- 1:21:37Speaker 10: playing under center as much as they used to, you know,
- 1:21:40Speaker 10: going all the way back to like middle school football.
- 1:21:43Speaker 10: So I think sometimes you see that early on in
- 1:21:45Speaker 10: guys careers, you know, second year center, third year quarterback.
- 1:21:48Speaker 10: and the exchange is just not as clean as you
- 1:21:51Speaker 10: would want it to be.
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: Alec in Berlin, great game. Nice to see Drake off
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: the schneid. The entire game I was expecting something bad
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: to happen, only to see them lose the game despite
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: being very competitive. Fred must have been very pleased with
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: himself after seeing Chisholm make not one, but two spectacular plays.
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: I was.
- 1:22:08Speaker 5: I was very happy.
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: For him, not me. We all learned last week that
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: Mike loves himself some books. He should start his own
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: book club podcast and call it Textual Do So. A
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: note for Evan and Alex Barth. Put your phones down
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: when you're on camera. Fiddling with them on camera is
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: not a good look. Also, be sure to get out
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: of your basement more often and get some daylight and exercise.
- 1:22:32Speaker 5: Troy Brown on the postgame is gold, Jerry.
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: It's gold. You know what I was going to say
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: about Troy, too?
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: An interesting comment he had during the, I don't know
- 1:22:39Speaker 3: if we were, while we were watching, but he said,
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: Paul made a comment on Ellis' physicality, and Troy was like,
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: he wasn't always like that.
- 1:22:45Speaker 4: He wasn't like that when he got here.
- 1:22:47Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: That was an interesting observation.
- 1:22:50Speaker 10: My rundown is on my phone when I do Catch-22.
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: Your rundown?
- 1:22:55Speaker 10: Yes. So I'm reading my notes. He plans out. I
- 1:22:59Speaker 10: actually plan out the show. Freeform Jazz Odyssey? My notes
- 1:23:04Speaker 10: are on my phone. Alex is usually looking at the chat.
- 1:23:09Speaker 10: Because sometimes we like to interact with the chat.
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:23:12Speaker 4: So.
- 1:23:13Speaker 10: We're not just on our phones. We're not texting our
- 1:23:17Speaker 10: girlfriends and stuff.
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: Just checking Facebook.
- 1:23:19Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: Updating your status.
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: Mike and Charlotte, on the subject of May's fumbling, am
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: I the only one that thinks he doesn't sense the
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: pressure around him very well? I thought that since he
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: became a starter, he doesn't seem to feel the pressure
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: coming and exposes the ball to being stripped.
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: I would agree.
- 1:23:39Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:23:39Speaker 25: Periodic.
- 1:23:40Speaker 3: Uh, issues with the timing and the pocket, like, you know.
- 1:23:44Speaker 10: It's a, that to me is a young quarterback thing.
- 1:23:47Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:23:47Speaker 10: And I know Paul was being snarky about Brady. No,
- 1:23:50Speaker 10: but I think that Brady probably started to get that
- 1:23:54Speaker 10: internal clock more and more confident with his time management
- 1:23:59Speaker 10: in the pocket. And that's probably why the fumble started
- 1:24:01Speaker 10: to go down. So you just hope that, you know,
- 1:24:03Speaker 10: he's going to, he has to kind of learn that like,
- 1:24:06Speaker 10: He doesn't have the biggest hands. So, like, he's not
- 1:24:09Speaker 10: going to be, like, this guy that can just palm
- 1:24:11Speaker 10: the ball and be super secure with it so he
- 1:24:13Speaker 10: can't hold the ball.
- 1:24:14Speaker 4: But you know what else also dramatically decreased in Brady
- 1:24:17Speaker 4: early years to Brady later years were sacks. So, you know,
- 1:24:23Speaker 4: that's part of what Evan's talking about is sort of
- 1:24:25Speaker 4: a presence in the pocket and understanding the clock a
- 1:24:27Speaker 4: little bit better. But Brady also, snark aside, Brady also
- 1:24:32Speaker 4: did a much better job of holding onto the ball
- 1:24:34Speaker 4: when he got sacked. as his career went on. There
- 1:24:37Speaker 4: were times that he would take shots and I'd be like,
- 1:24:40Speaker 4: how does he not fumble?
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: Like that Vaughn Miller one where he just gets decleted.
- 1:24:45Speaker 4: But I'm talking blindside shots. How does he... He'd pump
- 1:24:49Speaker 4: and then somehow he does that TB12 thing where he
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: sort of rolls with the hit and somehow holds onto
- 1:24:57Speaker 4: the ball. I just thought it was remarkable how infrequently
- 1:25:00Speaker 4: he fumbled later in his career.
- 1:25:02Speaker 10: Yeah, we don't have great Data on pre-2003 combine. 2003
- 1:25:10Speaker 10: is when they started to officially keep it publicly in
- 1:25:13Speaker 10: the NFL. But Brady's hands are about the same size
- 1:25:16Speaker 10: as Drake Mays.
- 1:25:17Speaker 4: Is that right?
- 1:25:18Speaker 10: If you believe what's on the internet. Nine and three ace.
- 1:25:22Speaker 4: So we know the secret formula then. Get on it.
- 1:25:26Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:25:28Speaker 5: I've shaken Tom Brady's hands. They look pretty big to me.
- 1:25:32Speaker 10: Well, I mean, I think they're bigger than, like, a non-athlete.
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: You know, long fingers.
- 1:25:37Speaker 4: You know, like the 6'4 guy is probably going to
- 1:25:39Speaker 4: have a longer hand.
- 1:25:41Speaker 5: No, but I've shaken other guys. He seems to have
- 1:25:45Speaker 5: pretty long fingers.
- 1:25:47Speaker 17: I don't know.
- 1:25:48Speaker 4: I haven't shaken his hand since probably, like, old two.
- 1:25:51Speaker 5: Let me see.
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: What do you got here?
- 1:25:52Speaker 5: What do you got?
- 1:25:53Speaker 10: So, Drake May's hands are nine and an eighth. Brady's
- 1:25:56Speaker 10: are 9-3 ace. So Drake Mays in the 16th percentile
- 1:26:00Speaker 10: for hand size. I don't mean to bring this whole
- 1:26:02Speaker 10: thing up.
- 1:26:04Speaker 5: Let's see. Ryan is in car. That could be Carolina.
- 1:26:08Speaker 5: I'm not sure.
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: What's up, Ryan? Hey, how you guys doing?
- 1:26:12Speaker 4: He's in a car.
- 1:26:13Speaker 5: In his car.
- 1:26:14Speaker 4: Oh, he's in a car. Where in your car? I
- 1:26:16Speaker 4: speak radio. What part of the country are you in?
- 1:26:19Speaker 10: Your shows.
- 1:26:20Speaker 14: I'm on the East Coast.
- 1:26:20Speaker 9: I'm right outside of D.C.
- 1:26:22Speaker 4: Okay. All right. What's up?
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I wanted to call in.
- 1:26:26Speaker 26: I wanted to give a huge shout-out to the rookies
- 1:26:28Speaker 26: so far this year.
- 1:26:29Speaker 4: I feel like when they've been on the field making impacts,
- 1:26:32Speaker 4: it's been noticeable.
- 1:26:32Speaker 14: I mean, mainly just Akis and Raritan, but still.
- 1:26:38Speaker 5: Good sign for the future.
- 1:26:40Speaker 4: I also wanted to bring up the fact that 15-2
- 1:26:41Speaker 4: is still on the table and the Bills have never
- 1:26:44Speaker 4: won jack.
- 1:26:44Speaker 18: Outside of that, have a good one and enjoy it.
- 1:26:47Speaker 5: I like that. 15-2 is still on the table.
- 1:26:50Speaker 4: Correct.
- 1:26:51Speaker 10: Gabe Ackes makes me tingly inside. The excitement level for
- 1:26:55Speaker 10: him is just absolutely through the roof. I think this
- 1:26:58Speaker 10: guy is the limit for that guy. The bull rush
- 1:27:01Speaker 10: on Deion Dawkins.
- 1:27:03Speaker 4: just good rep, toss.
- 1:27:04Speaker 10: Them right into the ground, condensing space in the run game,
- 1:27:08Speaker 10: slipping blocks instincts. And like, you know, just feel for
- 1:27:11Speaker 10: boots now is just, uh, I can understand why Mike
- 1:27:15Speaker 10: Rabel's taken such a liking to him. Cause he, he
- 1:27:18Speaker 10: plays his butt off on every single snap. And he's
- 1:27:21Speaker 10: just one of those guys that like the more and
- 1:27:24Speaker 10: more that he sees and the more that he develops
- 1:27:27Speaker 10: in terms of his pass rush, just the better and
- 1:27:30Speaker 10: better that he's going to get. And I can tell
- 1:27:31Speaker 10: that Vrabel sees that.
- 1:27:34Speaker 5: Now, Paul, you would disagree, right?
- 1:27:36Speaker 4: No.
- 1:27:36Speaker 5: Oh, okay.
- 1:27:37Speaker 4: Why would I disagree?
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: I thought you said that every once in a while
- 1:27:40Speaker 2: you see him.
- 1:27:41Speaker 4: I think he makes really flashy plays. I'm looking for
- 1:27:44Speaker 4: more consistency, but I say he's exactly what I was
- 1:27:47Speaker 4: anticipating coming into the season. I thought he would be
- 1:27:50Speaker 4: a guy that would contribute right away. Did I not
- 1:27:51Speaker 4: say that? I would like to see more consistency. That's all.
- 1:27:55Speaker 4: I think that flashy rep that we saw that Evan
- 1:27:58Speaker 4: talked about with Dawkins would be the one from this week.
- 1:28:01Speaker 4: I think, though, the one where he completely got right
- 1:28:06Speaker 4: in Aaron Rodgers' face on one of the first plays
- 1:28:09Speaker 4: of the game. The hard, heavy play-action boot didn't bite
- 1:28:12Speaker 4: on it at all. Immediately got right like that stood
- 1:28:15Speaker 4: out to me. I just... There were a couple of
- 1:28:17Speaker 4: plays where I think he gets a little overaggressive and
- 1:28:20Speaker 4: opened up some lanes. I think he was the one
- 1:28:22Speaker 4: that had Josh Allen on the Khalil Shakir play, if
- 1:28:24Speaker 4: I'm not mistaken. But I might be mixing that up
- 1:28:27Speaker 4: with a different play.
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: That's all.
- 1:28:28Speaker 4: I think his skill, his athleticism and stuff, we see
- 1:28:33Speaker 4: all the skills.
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: He's got a presence.
- 1:28:35Speaker 4: I don't see that, but I see a lot of skill.
- 1:28:37Speaker 4: It's a tough physicality physicality it shows up look what
- 1:28:40Speaker 4: he did to dawkins.
- 1:28:41Speaker 10: On that and i think his power i think his
- 1:28:43Speaker 10: instincts improve with every single game that he plays and
- 1:28:46Speaker 10: his block recognition uh has improved significantly since the summer
- 1:28:50Speaker 10: and He had a play in Jacksonville where they pulled
- 1:28:52Speaker 10: to his side, and he went right around the puller
- 1:28:54Speaker 10: and stuck.
- 1:28:55Speaker 4: A running back into the ground. Yeah, I know that play.
- 1:28:56Speaker 4: That was a play in that game.
- 1:28:57Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, it's just some of those plays that
- 1:28:59Speaker 10: he's making, and I don't really think that... I think
- 1:29:02Speaker 10: he's just scratching the surface in terms of pass rush.
- 1:29:05Speaker 10: He doesn't really have.
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: That's exactly what I say.
- 1:29:07Speaker 10: He doesn't really have, like, a toolbox right now. He
- 1:29:11Speaker 10: has his bull rush, and then he's good schematically at, like,
- 1:29:15Speaker 10: knifing or slipping into gaps against play action.
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: Fred sees Vaughn Miller, like... bat out of hell off the.
- 1:29:20Speaker 10: Edge no but uh his bull rush is a foundational
- 1:29:24Speaker 10: move like that's so good that that's like something he
- 1:29:27Speaker 10: can build off of but now he just needs to
- 1:29:29Speaker 10: get like a counter to you know like a swim
- 1:29:31Speaker 10: or a spin move or something when guys come out
- 1:29:33Speaker 10: to get him and aggressive because they are bracing for
- 1:29:36Speaker 10: the power like you need to have a counter to
- 1:29:38Speaker 10: beat that and combat that swipe his hands swim over him,
- 1:29:42Speaker 10: something like that. And I think that's what they're probably
- 1:29:44Speaker 10: working on with him, and they'll get him there.
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: I admit, I don't know. Ed Drush was like, I
- 1:29:48Speaker 2: know wide receivers. But it looks like he's got what
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: it takes.
- 1:29:51Speaker 3: Yes, I think he's exactly as advertised. I'd say one
- 1:29:55Speaker 3: more thing on that. It has me wondering. Can Harold
- 1:29:57Speaker 3: Landry come back to a level where you.
- 1:29:59Speaker 5: Can he ever play again?
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: What's his deal?
- 1:30:01Speaker 3: Can he come back and be at a level where
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: you want to even pull these young guys off the field?
- 1:30:05Speaker 10: I would not pull Akis off the field. I think
- 1:30:08Speaker 10: every single game he gets better and better.
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: The ponder too?
- 1:30:11Speaker 10: I think that he's improving with every snap that he gets.
- 1:30:15Speaker 10: He sees it faster. He's anticipating things more. I think
- 1:30:19Speaker 10: Mike Smith has done an excellent job with him because
- 1:30:21Speaker 10: I think a lot of it's film study and preparing
- 1:30:23Speaker 10: him during the week for what the opponent's going to do. Like,
- 1:30:26Speaker 10: in the preseason, he's running in the wrong direction constantly.
- 1:30:29Speaker 10: And then we get into the season, and he's, like,
- 1:30:31Speaker 10: on top of everything.
- 1:30:32Speaker 7: Reps. Yeah.
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: Reps.
- 1:30:33Speaker 10: So let him keep playing.
- 1:30:35Speaker 4: Let's go to New Jersey. Tom, what's up?
- 1:30:40Speaker 7: Hey, guys.
- 1:30:41Speaker 17: Thanks for taking my call. I just wanted to take
- 1:30:43Speaker 17: the chance because I don't normally get to listen live
- 1:30:46Speaker 17: and call in, but I wanted to say thanks for
- 1:30:49Speaker 17: the huge shout-out and the newsletter.
- 1:30:51Speaker 14: On the birth of my daughter, Meadow.
- 1:30:52Speaker 7: Oh, nice.
- 1:30:53Speaker 5: Oh, you're welcome.
- 1:30:55Speaker 17: And I just had two quick kind of points I
- 1:30:58Speaker 17: wanted to kind of bring up. You guys kind of
- 1:31:02Speaker 17: touched on it coming out of the break, but with
- 1:31:03Speaker 17: the uptick in production post, like, Brown's injury with Holland
- 1:31:07Speaker 17: and the kind of non-emergence of Kyle Williams, do you
- 1:31:09Speaker 17: think there needs to be a real emphasis on adding
- 1:31:12Speaker 17: a taller skill receiver? And, two, if you guys can
- 1:31:16Speaker 17: kind of– I know we've got to wait until tomorrow
- 1:31:18Speaker 17: probably to get a more update on, like, injuries with practice–
- 1:31:22Speaker 17: But could you kind of give a State of the Union, like,
- 1:31:24Speaker 17: injury report with the guys on IR? I hear Brown
- 1:31:27Speaker 17: might be looking better and not going to be eight weeks.
- 1:31:31Speaker 17: And is Van Roten's injury on IR more of a
- 1:31:34Speaker 17: short-term thing? And do you have a chance to come back?
- 1:31:36Speaker 17: And I appreciate it, guys.
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:31:39Speaker 2: Thanks. Yeah, so what do we have?
- 1:31:40Speaker 5: What do we know about the injured?
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: Yeah, wait on Hollins. I mean, I think that's right there.
- 1:31:44Speaker 10: Yeah, I think practice tomorrow, like, does Gonzalez practice? Does
- 1:31:47Speaker 10: Christian Barmore practice? Does Matt Collins practice? Those, I'd say,
- 1:31:51Speaker 10: are the big three. A.J. Brown can't come back until
- 1:31:55Speaker 10: week six, but I think it was NFL Network or
- 1:31:58Speaker 10: Garifullo or one of those guys said that it's trending
- 1:32:01Speaker 10: in a good direction. But I think that with Brown,
- 1:32:04Speaker 10: you play Thursday night the following week. So are you
- 1:32:07Speaker 10: going to bring him back in the Jets game and
- 1:32:10Speaker 10: then play him on Thursday night against the Bears, that's
- 1:32:14Speaker 10: a pretty quick turnaround coming off a high ankle sprain.
- 1:32:17Speaker 10: So I think that that might be a factor.
- 1:32:19Speaker 5: Do you bring him just in for the Bears game?
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:32:21Speaker 10: Or, yeah, or see where you're at. I mean, if
- 1:32:23Speaker 10: you win the next two games, then you're not in
- 1:32:25Speaker 10: a real rush, I don't think, to bring him back
- 1:32:26Speaker 10: at that point. But the— Van Roten? Van Roten, we'll see.
- 1:32:33Speaker 10: I think Ben Brown did pretty well. Like, I thought
- 1:32:35Speaker 10: that he, you know— at least treaded water in the
- 1:32:38Speaker 10: performance and was solid, was fine. So I would just
- 1:32:43Speaker 10: ride that out until the wheels come off with Ben
- 1:32:45Speaker 10: Brown for now.
- 1:32:47Speaker 2: And we did mention, you know, Ramondre looked a little
- 1:32:50Speaker 2: limpy at some point toward the end of the game.
- 1:32:53Speaker 10: Yeah, he seemed fine post-game.
- 1:32:56Speaker 5: Just keep an eye on that.
- 1:32:57Speaker 10: We spoke to him. I think some of that could be.
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: Can we talk about Will Campbell's performance in this game?
- 1:33:02Speaker 5: He says very meekly.
- 1:33:04Speaker 10: We are in the second hour of the show, Mike.
- 1:33:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:33:06Speaker 3: I don't think you're allowed. I mean, you weren't feeling
- 1:33:08Speaker 3: it during the game, Paul. We obviously saw the stats.
- 1:33:10Speaker 3: I mean, it seems kind of, to my impression, they did.
- 1:33:13Speaker 4: What you wanted.
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: They wanted to put them a little bit more one-on-one,
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: and it didn't go so hot. It didn't.
- 1:33:18Speaker 10: It didn't. And I think the biggest concern that I
- 1:33:20Speaker 10: had with it was... A lot of it was bull rushes,
- 1:33:24Speaker 10: which is what was giving him problems in the playoffs
- 1:33:26Speaker 10: last year. So that was a small C concern was that,
- 1:33:31Speaker 10: you know, you get beat by a guy with great
- 1:33:34Speaker 10: speed off the edge or something like that once or twice.
- 1:33:36Speaker 10: You say, OK, but guys were going through him in
- 1:33:39Speaker 10: this game a little bit more than what you would
- 1:33:41Speaker 10: like to see. So that was concerning. Now, the couple
- 1:33:44Speaker 10: of reps that he lost to Russo, Russo's on an
- 1:33:46Speaker 10: absolute heater. He's one of the best editors in football
- 1:33:49Speaker 10: right now. So, okay. But TJ Parker, Bradley Chubb at
- 1:33:53Speaker 10: this stage of his career, like Campbell should be able
- 1:33:55Speaker 10: to handle those guys. So that was a little bit disappointing. Now,
- 1:33:58Speaker 10: the flip side of that is that they got more
- 1:34:02Speaker 10: guys into the routes. They didn't ship as much. They
- 1:34:04Speaker 10: didn't help as much. And all of a sudden, Drake
- 1:34:06Speaker 10: May had his best game of the season. So are
- 1:34:07Speaker 10: those two things... And do you just kind of have
- 1:34:10Speaker 10: to live with the fact that Campbell's going to give
- 1:34:12Speaker 10: up some pressure here or there? You know, so I
- 1:34:15Speaker 10: think that that's that's the question. And, you know, you
- 1:34:17Speaker 10: got what did you cross be like, you know, this week?
- 1:34:20Speaker 3: So what did you feel like he needs to do, though,
- 1:34:22Speaker 3: to deal with, like, get into guys quicker and not
- 1:34:24Speaker 3: let them get the.
- 1:34:25Speaker 10: So I thought he got better about it as it
- 1:34:27Speaker 10: wore on. And I think some of that is depends,
- 1:34:30Speaker 10: you know, is he vertical setting? That depends on the call.
- 1:34:32Speaker 10: Like he doesn't have total freedom within his team. Set
- 1:34:36Speaker 10: to decide how he's going to set on every play
- 1:34:38Speaker 10: because some plays you have to vertical set or whatever.
- 1:34:42Speaker 10: But I think he's so much better when he's more
- 1:34:45Speaker 10: aggressive and pass protection and he's cutting the space down.
- 1:34:48Speaker 10: when he has to catch guys and guys are coming
- 1:34:50Speaker 10: downhill at him, that's when he has trouble because of
- 1:34:53Speaker 10: the reach to like really get his hands into people
- 1:34:56Speaker 10: and drop his anchor when he's more aggressive. I think
- 1:34:58Speaker 10: that he's, he's been much better against power, but that
- 1:35:02Speaker 10: was the one can like, I'm not super concerned, uh,
- 1:35:05Speaker 10: you know, that he got beat once or twice by Rousseau,
- 1:35:08Speaker 10: but when like TJ Parker is bull rushing him and
- 1:35:10Speaker 10: Bradley Chubb is bull rushing him, like those are the
- 1:35:13Speaker 10: ones that you don't want to necessarily see.
- 1:35:16Speaker 5: Let's go back to the phones.
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: 855-PASS-500.
- 1:35:19Speaker 5: Claire's in the UK.
- 1:35:20Speaker 4: What's up, Claire?
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: Hi, Claire.
- 1:35:22Speaker 4: Calling in.
- 1:35:24Speaker 7: Claire.
- 1:35:26Speaker 5: Are you there?
- 1:35:27Speaker 4: Claire.
- 1:35:29Speaker 14: Uh-oh.
- 1:35:32Speaker 4: Is that her?
- 1:35:33Speaker 10: I think so.
- 1:35:34Speaker 4: What's happening?
- 1:35:35Speaker 5: Hey, girl. Claire.
- 1:35:37Speaker 14: Hello, Claire.
- 1:35:39Speaker 4: Is that you doing that?
- 1:35:43Speaker 13: Sorry.
- 1:35:45Speaker 4: No, I think she's muted. She just has a bad connection.
- 1:35:47Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:35:49Speaker 4: She keeps saying, can you hear me? And all we
- 1:35:51Speaker 4: can say is hear me. Yeah, hear me.
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: Hear me.
- 1:35:54Speaker 5: All right.
- 1:35:55Speaker 4: We'll go to Sabah, North Carolina.
- 1:35:57Speaker 5: What's up, Sabah?
- 1:35:59Speaker 4: Hey, guys.
- 1:36:00Speaker 19: Can y'all hear me loud and clear?
- 1:36:02Speaker 4: Oh, yes, we can.
- 1:36:04Speaker 6: Oh, boy.
- 1:36:05Speaker 19: This is so great. I tell you, Drake needed that
- 1:36:08Speaker 19: big time. You know what I like best about it?
- 1:36:11Speaker 19: That he wasn't perfect.
- 1:36:13Speaker 17: That's what I like.
- 1:36:14Speaker 19: You make a mistake, and it's how you react to it.
- 1:36:17Speaker 19: Because if everything was perfect, then I still wouldn't be
- 1:36:20Speaker 19: certain about his mental makeup right now. Because I'm still
- 1:36:23Speaker 19: not all the way there. But now, after this game,
- 1:36:26Speaker 19: I feel like he can handle some adversity. And Vrabel
- 1:36:29Speaker 19: at least talked about when he fumbled the ball, he
- 1:36:31Speaker 19: picked it up and threw it. I think it was Henry.
- 1:36:33Speaker 19: Just make a play. People say don't let a loss
- 1:36:36Speaker 19: beat you twice. Don't let a mistake beat you the.
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: Rest of the game.
- 1:36:41Speaker 19: Just keep going, and that's all I love about it.
- 1:36:43Speaker 19: And Chisholm, I'm telling you, I think he can be
- 1:36:47Speaker 19: the Diggs replacement. Kind of middle of the field, third down,
- 1:36:50Speaker 19: knows how to do choice routes, unlike your Williams guy.
- 1:36:54Speaker 19: And for the deep, I don't know who you're going
- 1:36:56Speaker 19: to use for the deep guy. I guess that Williams
- 1:36:59Speaker 19: guy because, again, I don't like him making any choices
- 1:37:01Speaker 19: on his little choice routes. You know, he makes them
- 1:37:03Speaker 19: wrong all the time. So I don't know if you
- 1:37:05Speaker 19: can get back Booty. I don't know what's going to
- 1:37:07Speaker 19: happen with– Collins, to me, it looked like an Achilles.
- 1:37:11Speaker 17: It looked really bad.
- 1:37:12Speaker 19: But maybe it's not that bad. But I'm just excited,
- 1:37:16Speaker 19: and I hope to God that you guys in the
- 1:37:18Speaker 19: media and national will talk about what Josh Allen did.
- 1:37:23Speaker 19: He basically pulled a Drake May against Seattle. Down three.
- 1:37:29Speaker 19: All you needed was a field goal, and he basically
- 1:37:32Speaker 19: threw into double coverage.
- 1:37:34Speaker 4: So, you know, I don't know why. I haven't heard
- 1:37:36Speaker 4: anybody mention that.
- 1:37:38Speaker 19: But they're not making out like, oh, what's wrong with him?
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: Paul's being sarcastic.
- 1:37:40Speaker 5: He's not the guy and blah, blah, blah.
- 1:37:42Speaker 4: I mean, it was the play of the game for Buffalo.
- 1:37:44Speaker 4: I mean, he's getting killed.
- 1:37:45Speaker 5: Yeah. And he should.
- 1:37:46Speaker 4: He lost the game.
- 1:37:47Speaker 19: Behind the back thing that should have been a grounding.
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: We've talked about that.
- 1:37:50Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:37:50Speaker 4: We've talked about that, too.
- 1:37:51Speaker 2: We've talked about that.
- 1:37:52Speaker 4: He played a terrible game. It's been talked about.
- 1:37:54Speaker 10: Well, you can't expect.
- 1:37:55Speaker 4: The national media to talk about that. I see a
- 1:37:58Speaker 4: lot of criticism of him on national media.
- 1:38:01Speaker 11: One more thing.
- 1:38:01Speaker 19: I was supposed to get a t-shirt like a month ago.
- 1:38:04Speaker 16: I still haven't got it.
- 1:38:05Speaker 5: You still haven't got it? Wow.
- 1:38:08Speaker 10: I haven't gotten her address.
- 1:38:09Speaker 19: Change your address.
- 1:38:10Speaker 14: Stay on the line.
- 1:38:11Speaker 4: You've got to give Matt your address. Stay on the line.
- 1:38:14Speaker 5: I don't know how we do that.
- 1:38:16Speaker 4: Addie, please.
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: Stay on the line and give Matt your address.
- 1:38:20Speaker 4: Just hit the hold.
- 1:38:23Speaker 5: Hold.
- 1:38:24Speaker 4: Hold, please.
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: I can't see. Okay, I'm going to hit hold.
- 1:38:28Speaker 10: It's interesting that they... Obviously, this was because of injury,
- 1:38:32Speaker 10: but even in the past, it seems like Chisholm has
- 1:38:36Speaker 10: played more in the Matt Collins role than a pure
- 1:38:39Speaker 10: slot role when he is on the field. I love
- 1:38:43Speaker 10: Pop Douglas. I love the skill set. I think they
- 1:38:45Speaker 10: need it on this team, but... Would Chisholm make better
- 1:38:49Speaker 10: decisions in the slot? I think so.
- 1:38:52Speaker 2: Listen, I was a big Pop Douglas fan that first year.
- 1:38:55Speaker 2: I mean, we're talking about Pop now.
- 1:38:57Speaker 4: Remember that? Yeah, I know. But he's got some things
- 1:39:00Speaker 4: that he's lacking.
- 1:39:00Speaker 5: I'm just a little baffled by why he doesn't get
- 1:39:03Speaker 5: more volume.
- 1:39:05Speaker 10: I want to... be careful about this because it's, it's,
- 1:39:08Speaker 10: I feel like you say, I'm.
- 1:39:10Speaker 5: Not saying that they're doing the wrong thing.
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: I'm just, there's a reason why he doesn't get the
- 1:39:14Speaker 2: opportunities that I was hoping he would get.
- 1:39:18Speaker 10: So on the very first drop back of the game
- 1:39:20Speaker 10: on Drake Mays, 15 yard scramble, he's looking at pop
- 1:39:23Speaker 10: and he's running a route out of the slot and
- 1:39:25Speaker 10: the linebackers sitting inside of pop Douglas. And it's an
- 1:39:29Speaker 10: option route, right? And so he, It should be instinctively
- 1:39:34Speaker 10: he should break out away from the leverage of the linebacker.
- 1:39:37Speaker 10: He breaks right into the linebacker and he runs across
- 1:39:40Speaker 10: the field. And so then Drake may have to scramble. Now,
- 1:39:43Speaker 10: it kind of worked out because he cleared out that
- 1:39:46Speaker 10: side of the field and it ended up running.
- 1:39:49Speaker 9: But.
- 1:39:51Speaker 10: that, that route is designed. He's, you can see it.
- 1:39:54Speaker 10: He's coming off the line. He's kind of reading the
- 1:39:56Speaker 10: linebacker and setting the linebacker up and you want to
- 1:39:59Speaker 10: see him break out on that route. And he breaks
- 1:40:00Speaker 10: right into the linebackers leverage. And like, these are the
- 1:40:03Speaker 10: little things that I just see pop up with him. Like,
- 1:40:06Speaker 10: you know, two or three times a game that like
- 1:40:09Speaker 10: guys that we know of that were high volume in
- 1:40:12Speaker 10: that role, Welker Edelman, uh, whatever those guys, that was instinctive.
- 1:40:17Speaker 10: Like that was innate to them. Like, Inside leverage, I'm
- 1:40:19Speaker 10: breaking out. Outside leverage, I'm breaking in. Zone coverage, I'm sitting.
- 1:40:23Speaker 10: These things are just like... I know it sounds easy.
- 1:40:26Speaker 4: I know.
- 1:40:27Speaker 10: But when it's live and the game's moving fast, it's
- 1:40:30Speaker 10: not as easy. If you're going to try to find
- 1:40:33Speaker 10: ways to get Chisholm on the field more, to me,
- 1:40:36Speaker 10: that's where it is.
- 1:40:37Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:40:38Speaker 10: And so if Chisholm's earned himself more work, which I
- 1:40:41Speaker 10: think he probably has... Trying him inside and seeing if
- 1:40:45Speaker 10: he can run the option routes a little bit better
- 1:40:47Speaker 10: might be the spot.
- 1:40:48Speaker 3: Just wonder what it looks like without, sorry Fred, without
- 1:40:50Speaker 3: Matt Collins. Like when we said on the show, we'll
- 1:40:52Speaker 3: see with Kyle Williams, but they really don't have an
- 1:40:54Speaker 3: outside guy anymore. Maybe they do send Pop downfield a
- 1:40:58Speaker 3: little bit more.
- 1:40:59Speaker 4: Can they use, like, I mean, I know he's not
- 1:41:04Speaker 4: anywhere near that kind of skill set, but can they
- 1:41:06Speaker 4: use him? Can they use Chisholm as... Like I'd rather
- 1:41:09Speaker 4: have Chisholm playing 50 plays a game than Kyle Williams.
- 1:41:12Speaker 4: If it comes to that, you know, Evan's looking for
- 1:41:15Speaker 4: him to use some of the slot.
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: Oh, you're saying the outside guy.
- 1:41:18Speaker 4: He's not a traditional outside guy, but.
- 1:41:21Speaker 5: Put him in the Sunday, like a boundary receiver.
- 1:41:24Speaker 10: I did it on Sunday. I mean, he caught a
- 1:41:25Speaker 10: 19 yard.
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: That was a perfect, but I mean, like he's not
- 1:41:30Speaker 2: catching 50, 50 balls in the end zone.
- 1:41:32Speaker 4: He's just not, but I'm not throwing him 50, 50 balls.
- 1:41:35Speaker 4: I'm asking him like, So keep Douglas where he is
- 1:41:39Speaker 4: in his spot and have him just do what Evan's
- 1:41:42Speaker 4: kind of explaining, how he has been kind of in
- 1:41:44Speaker 4: the Hollins role. Because I don't think Kyle Williams has
- 1:41:48Speaker 4: done anything to warrant more snaps. No, I think that's fair.
- 1:41:51Speaker 4: So give Chisholm more snaps. He's done much more with
- 1:41:54Speaker 4: his opportunities.
- 1:41:56Speaker 10: Yeah, no, I think that's what it will be short term.
- 1:41:58Speaker 10: When A.J. Brown comes back, I think that I'm getting
- 1:42:01Speaker 10: Chisholm on the field.
- 1:42:02Speaker 5: Now everybody gets back in where they should be.
- 1:42:04Speaker 4: But that could be, yes. If Brown is back, then
- 1:42:07Speaker 4: you can use Chisholm like Douglas. The way the.
- 1:42:09Speaker 10: Teams are playing them so much in zone, because of Drake.
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: May, I don't know.
- 1:42:15Speaker 10: I'm not giving up on Pop Douglas, but at some point,
- 1:42:18Speaker 10: that light has got to come on of how to
- 1:42:20Speaker 10: run routes inside the formation and inside the middle of
- 1:42:23Speaker 10: the field. Him against a linebacker is a mismatch. He
- 1:42:27Speaker 10: should win that every single time. And they're kind of
- 1:42:30Speaker 10: counting on him to be able to win it every
- 1:42:31Speaker 10: single time. in a lot of these situations, and he's
- 1:42:35Speaker 10: just consistently not doing it. So at some point, you know,
- 1:42:38Speaker 10: Chisholm just keeps making plays every time he's.
- 1:42:40Speaker 4: On the field.
- 1:42:40Speaker 2: Yeah, Jeremiah has the exact same question about this topic, about,
- 1:42:45Speaker 2: you know, Chisholm getting more snaps now after the performance,
- 1:42:49Speaker 2: and will it be in Pop's role or will it
- 1:42:52Speaker 2: be the Hollins' role? So that's what we're talking about.
- 1:42:55Speaker 10: It's going to have to be Hollins' role because Pop's
- 1:42:57Speaker 10: going to have to play. So, like, you're not going
- 1:43:00Speaker 10: to put Pop outside. So, like, you're going to have to,
- 1:43:02Speaker 10: if you need to play Dobbs, Chisholm, and Pop, like,
- 1:43:06Speaker 10: Pop is going to be the one in the slot
- 1:43:08Speaker 10: and Chisholm is going to be outside. The other thing
- 1:43:10Speaker 10: I would just say about Chisholm playing in the slot
- 1:43:12Speaker 10: is that he's a better blocker. So, like, he's a bigger,
- 1:43:17Speaker 10: more sturdier guy. I mean, he's not huge, but inside
- 1:43:20Speaker 10: he's a little bit bigger. I'm ready to see more
- 1:43:22Speaker 10: of Fred's guy. I think it's time.
- 1:43:25Speaker 4: Claire's back in the U.K.
- 1:43:27Speaker 5: What's up, Claire?
- 1:43:29Speaker 16: Have you got me now?
- 1:43:30Speaker 7: Yes.
- 1:43:30Speaker 13: Hey.
- 1:43:32Speaker 14: Hi, everyone.
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: It's been a while.
- 1:43:36Speaker 6: It has.
- 1:43:37Speaker 16: You guys are all looking great. You are all well.
- 1:43:40Speaker 12: Thanks.
- 1:43:40Speaker 16: I have two points. See, I'm quite... I'm exasperated. Why
- 1:43:45Speaker 16: have I not got more... Excitement about how we beat
- 1:43:48Speaker 16: the Bills in the Bills' new house. I mean, you
- 1:43:51Speaker 16: should be freaking out about this. This is amazing. This
- 1:43:54Speaker 16: made me freak out that we beat the Bills. Sorry,
- 1:43:56Speaker 16: they beat the Bills in the Bills' new house. This
- 1:43:58Speaker 16: is definitely time of celebration.
- 1:44:01Speaker 2: You don't think that people are excited about it?
- 1:44:04Speaker 16: You guys, I wanted more enthusiasm.
- 1:44:07Speaker 14: Paul said it better.
- 1:44:08Speaker 4: Wow.
- 1:44:08Speaker 16: I wanted more enthusiasm.
- 1:44:10Speaker 4: I'm getting chastised for not being excited enough.
- 1:44:13Speaker 5: I think we're pretty high energy. I don't know.
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: I mean, Evan's Evan. Nothing is, you know.
- 1:44:20Speaker 4: It's on his phone. He's in the chat.
- 1:44:21Speaker 5: He's fiddling with his phone now.
- 1:44:24Speaker 16: I want an enthusiasm for Paul.
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: He does it the best.
- 1:44:28Speaker 2: Well, I'm sorry. I thought we tried to bring enthusiasm
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: and energy, but we'll.
- 1:44:34Speaker 4: Try to do better.
- 1:44:34Speaker 16: Paul, I'm just kidding with you guys.
- 1:44:36Speaker 4: I'm just kidding.
- 1:44:37Speaker 6: I have a point.
- 1:44:38Speaker 16: I have a second point. They contained the top receiving
- 1:44:41Speaker 16: tight end in the league presently really quite well in Kincaid.
- 1:44:45Speaker 16: How are you guys feeling about Brock Bowers going into
- 1:44:49Speaker 16: against the Raiders?
- 1:44:50Speaker 4: It's a good one.
- 1:44:51Speaker 2: Thanks for the call, Claire. We will turn the page tomorrow.
- 1:44:54Speaker 2: We're going to talk about the Raiders. So I'm sure
- 1:44:56Speaker 2: Brock Bowers will be part of that.
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: Max Crosby will be part of that discussion. Kirk Cousins.
- 1:45:02Speaker 2: Kirk Cousins. So we're going to talk about Raiders tomorrow.
- 1:45:06Speaker 4: We're putting a cornerback on him.
- 1:45:09Speaker 10: I've been waiting for them to do that for four years.
- 1:45:11Speaker 4: So here's the thing, Claire.
- 1:45:12Speaker 2: You say we weren't excited about the Bills game enough,
- 1:45:15Speaker 2: and now you're talking about the Raiders game.
- 1:45:17Speaker 4: She said she was only kidding.
- 1:45:18Speaker 5: Let's let this game breathe a little bit.
- 1:45:20Speaker 10: We try to stay a little balanced. We're not going
- 1:45:23Speaker 10: to come in here and start throwing parades.
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: Paul in the Colony wants to know, how long is
- 1:45:29Speaker 2: Shabab going to pretend she is not actually a Patriots fan?
- 1:45:32Speaker 4: Shabab.
- 1:45:33Speaker 10: That is true. She always says, like, you and your team.
- 1:45:37Speaker 5: She's a Patriots fan.
- 1:45:38Speaker 4: She wants to be a Patriots fan.
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: Did she say her husband was a Patriots fan?
- 1:45:41Speaker 3: Is that how she's gotten sucked up into this?
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: No, she was a Washington fan.
- 1:45:46Speaker 10: I don't remember that. I don't remember.
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: But she said that.
- 1:45:49Speaker 10: It's her cousins that didn't move me.
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: He's got 11 touchdowns. Let's go to North Carolina where
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: Caleb is on the phone.
- 1:45:59Speaker 4: What's up, Caleb?
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: Williams. Caleb.
- 1:46:03Speaker 15: Can you guys hear me?
- 1:46:04Speaker 4: Hey, do you know Shabab?
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: Shabab.
- 1:46:07Speaker 26: I'm familiar with her.
- 1:46:09Speaker 15: Shabab.
- 1:46:10Speaker 25: How are you guys doing today?
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: I'm doing all right. Not good enough.
- 1:46:14Speaker 25: Good, good, good.
- 1:46:16Speaker 26: I do aspire to be a member of sports media.
- 1:46:19Speaker 26: I work at a news station right now. Cover tons
- 1:46:21Speaker 26: of sports in college, so I can't wait to hopefully
- 1:46:23Speaker 26: join you guys one day. I've tried to apply. I
- 1:46:26Speaker 26: haven't gotten anything back. But anyway, I'm a Patriots fan
- 1:46:29Speaker 26: by nature, and I just wanted.
- 1:46:31Speaker 25: To ask you guys.
- 1:46:33Speaker 26: What was you guys' confidence level 1 through 10 before
- 1:46:37Speaker 26: this game, and how much has it changed now? I
- 1:46:40Speaker 26: know we're battered by injuries. I know that the Bills
- 1:46:43Speaker 26: seem to be on a slump, and Miami and New
- 1:46:48Speaker 26: York seem to be an up-and-coming team. But what's you guys'
- 1:46:50Speaker 26: confidence level at post-win and pre-win?
- 1:46:54Speaker 10: I felt the same way as I did. before they
- 1:46:57Speaker 10: beat the Bills, that they should win the next two games.
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like that.
- 1:47:00Speaker 10: You're playing the Raiders and the Jets at home. You
- 1:47:02Speaker 10: should win both those games, and I'd be pretty disappointed.
- 1:47:05Speaker 4: I didn't have a lot of faith that they were
- 1:47:07Speaker 4: going to go to Buffalo. I'm not going to try
- 1:47:08Speaker 4: to be fraud about it. I didn't think they were
- 1:47:10Speaker 4: going to win the game. So I didn't have a
- 1:47:12Speaker 4: lot of confidence there. I agree with Evan. I fully
- 1:47:14Speaker 4: expected to come back and win the next two and
- 1:47:17Speaker 4: be 3-3.
- 1:47:17Speaker 10: I was hoping that they were going to play better
- 1:47:19Speaker 10: in Buffalo and then get back to 3-3, get A.J.
- 1:47:22Speaker 10: Brown back, and now we're rolling again.
- 1:47:23Speaker 4: Now we'll see what happens.
- 1:47:24Speaker 10: Right, but this obviously is just kind of cherry on
- 1:47:28Speaker 10: top that they actually won the game. But the Raiders
- 1:47:31Speaker 10: and the Jets, those are games you should win.
- 1:47:34Speaker 2: Listen, I'm with Paul and Evan. Going in, I didn't
- 1:47:38Speaker 2: think we were going to win. I was just hoping
- 1:47:39Speaker 2: they'd play better, and that's what I said. But if
- 1:47:42Speaker 2: they had played really poorly in Buffalo, like as bad as.
- 1:47:47Speaker 5: Jacksonville, I would be worried about the rest of the season.
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:47:52Speaker 4: I mean, I don't really.
- 1:47:54Speaker 10: Could you not be?
- 1:47:55Speaker 4: My rest of the season is kind of the same.
- 1:47:58Speaker 4: I need to see more than a game.
- 1:47:59Speaker 6: Oh, sure.
- 1:48:00Speaker 4: But I'm a little.
- 1:48:01Speaker 5: I feel better now. I know it's in us. This
- 1:48:04Speaker 5: is a different team.
- 1:48:04Speaker 4: I thought it was going to be one and three.
- 1:48:06Speaker 4: It's two and two. That's how you can't help but
- 1:48:08Speaker 4: feel better.
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:48:09Speaker 25: Guys, I have one more question. As a fan that's watching,
- 1:48:14Speaker 25: I'm not in the locker room like you guys are,
- 1:48:17Speaker 25: but you know, as a fan that's watching.
- 1:48:20Speaker 26: Were there some questions about Drake Mays' leadership?
- 1:48:23Speaker 25: Because I was watching that Jacksonville game, and there were
- 1:48:26Speaker 25: shots where Drake is just sitting right next.
- 1:48:27Speaker 14: To Josh McDaniels.
- 1:48:29Speaker 25: And I'm thinking in my head, I'm like, man, if
- 1:48:30Speaker 25: this was Brady, Josh would have been like, hey, man,
- 1:48:33Speaker 25: get away from me. Don't motivate your team.
- 1:48:35Speaker 14: Don't talk to the team.
- 1:48:37Speaker 26: Are there any concerns about his vocal leadership?
- 1:48:41Speaker 2: I don't think he's the natural alpha like Brady was
- 1:48:45Speaker 2: or like some of these– You know, from day one,
- 1:48:50Speaker 2: Drake has been like, I have to earn it. I
- 1:48:52Speaker 2: have to earn the right to tell other players what
- 1:48:55Speaker 2: to do. And I'm not sure that even up to
- 1:48:58Speaker 2: this point he's felt he has that yet. He has
- 1:49:00Speaker 2: earned that right to do it. He's more humble than
- 1:49:03Speaker 2: Brady was.
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:49:04Speaker 10: I would agree with that. I think he's definitely an alpha.
- 1:49:07Speaker 10: And I think he's a very confident guy. And I
- 1:49:10Speaker 10: think he's good at everything. Like everybody that you talk
- 1:49:13Speaker 10: to says that.
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: Oh, as an athlete, yeah.
- 1:49:14Speaker 10: As an athlete.
- 1:49:16Speaker 4: Thanks, Caleb.
- 1:49:16Speaker 10: Whether he picks, you know, Josh McDaniel is talking about golf, pickleball, basketball, football.
- 1:49:21Speaker 5: But does that mean he's a leader?
- 1:49:23Speaker 10: I think that he's one of the best leaders on
- 1:49:26Speaker 10: the team. And I think that every single guy you
- 1:49:28Speaker 10: talk to consistently, Christian Gonzalez was asked, you know, who
- 1:49:32Speaker 10: are some of the best leaders you've been around? And
- 1:49:34Speaker 10: he said Drake May. So I think that there's different
- 1:49:38Speaker 10: ways to lead. He's probably not going to go up
- 1:49:41Speaker 10: and down the sideline berating his offensive line. I think
- 1:49:44Speaker 10: that's what.
- 1:49:45Speaker 5: Fans are looking for.
- 1:49:46Speaker 10: Because that's what you see. I don't think that that's
- 1:49:50Speaker 10: the type of leader that he is like Brady was,
- 1:49:52Speaker 10: where we've got to play harder, we've got to play tougher.
- 1:49:54Speaker 10: I don't know if he's there yet in that respect,
- 1:49:58Speaker 10: but I think that a lot of his teammates would
- 1:50:01Speaker 10: stand up and say, no, he is a great leader.
- 1:50:04Speaker 10: He's just maybe not... Brady-esque.
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: I think there are a lot of different ways to lead.
- 1:50:08Speaker 3: And I go back to what Troy told us about
- 1:50:11Speaker 3: when Brady got in the huddle as a second-year guy
- 1:50:13Speaker 3: who they didn't really know what to expect. And he
- 1:50:16Speaker 3: already had that confidence where some players might need to
- 1:50:19Speaker 3: prove it first and feel like they're playing. But I
- 1:50:22Speaker 3: wonder with Drake, I feel like his leadership is more... Like,
- 1:50:26Speaker 3: you just love him. Like, you kind of love him as, like,
- 1:50:28Speaker 3: a little brother. Kind of, you know, like, he's a
- 1:50:29Speaker 3: great athlete.
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: But, like, you just... It isn't like you're afraid of him. And,
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: you know, I don't know. I'm having trouble putting it
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: into words.
- 1:50:36Speaker 2: Well, yeah, that's a good one. Because Brady... If you
- 1:50:39Speaker 2: screwed up, you knew Brady was going to... I'm talking
- 1:50:42Speaker 2: about practice now. You knew Brady was going to be
- 1:50:44Speaker 2: in your face.
- 1:50:45Speaker 5: You've got to do better.
- 1:50:46Speaker 2: I don't know if Drake does that yet, or I
- 1:50:48Speaker 2: don't know if Drake has felt he's earned the right.
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: To do that yet.
- 1:50:51Speaker 3: I had hockey coaches I was afraid of, and then
- 1:50:54Speaker 3: I had a hockey coach that I just didn't want
- 1:50:56Speaker 3: to let down. I think different players respond differently to
- 1:51:00Speaker 3: different forms of leadership. For me, the coach that I
- 1:51:03Speaker 3: didn't want to let down was one of my favorite
- 1:51:05Speaker 3: coaches of all time. I still felt like my aggressive...
- 1:51:08Speaker 3: Angry Coach got good things out of me, but I
- 1:51:10Speaker 3: don't know if he got as much out of me.
- 1:51:12Speaker 3: So I just think there's a lot of different ways
- 1:51:14Speaker 3: to do it. I see what Evan sees. I think
- 1:51:16Speaker 3: these guys love Drake May. They rally around him. But
- 1:51:18Speaker 3: I don't think that he's the traditional kind of.
- 1:51:20Speaker 5: Hey, get out there. Let's go.
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: I think they love him. He just does his thing,
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: and he's a good athlete, and he's clutch.
- 1:51:27Speaker 3: I mean, well, he can throw the ball really well.
- 1:51:30Speaker 4: No, I think they love him.
- 1:51:31Speaker 2: I agree.
- 1:51:32Speaker 4: I don't know. I think the other part is still developing.
- 1:51:35Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:51:36Speaker 10: I guess it's just, like, does he have to be
- 1:51:39Speaker 10: barking at people?
- 1:51:40Speaker 25: No.
- 1:51:41Speaker 10: Like, I guess maybe that's where I'm coming from, is, like,
- 1:51:45Speaker 10: I just don't think that Brady, A, was maybe one
- 1:51:49Speaker 10: of the best leaders in the history of sports. So, like, that's, like,
- 1:51:53Speaker 10: kind of a tough one to compare him to. But, B,
- 1:51:55Speaker 10: I would say, like, that was Brady's style. Brady was aggressive.
- 1:51:59Speaker 10: Brady was a lot like, like, you hear stories about
- 1:52:01Speaker 10: Michael Jordan, that they're similar, that they demanded... excellence from
- 1:52:07Speaker 10: their teammates and really held everybody accountable in that sense
- 1:52:11Speaker 10: i don't know if that's how everybody leads though and
- 1:52:15Speaker 10: i don't know if all good leaders have to lead that.
- 1:52:17Speaker 3: Way what's josh allen like does he i mean i'm
- 1:52:19Speaker 3: asking honestly i don't know he doesn't seem to me
- 1:52:21Speaker 3: like to kind of get in their guy's face like
- 1:52:23Speaker 3: he seems similar to me in drake's mold.
- 1:52:26Speaker 4: Yeah i think there's a difference between getting in guys
- 1:52:28Speaker 4: faces and kind of being a passive low-key guy And
- 1:52:32Speaker 4: I don't know, like I said, I think that second
- 1:52:34Speaker 4: part for Drake May is still developing. And I think
- 1:52:37Speaker 4: Mike Vrabel's kind of telling you that every summer.
- 1:52:39Speaker 5: Yes.
- 1:52:39Speaker 4: Like, I want, this is what I want from you.
- 1:52:42Speaker 4: I want you, you know, like, it doesn't have to
- 1:52:44Speaker 4: be like Dan Marino lighting everybody up all the time. Like,
- 1:52:48Speaker 4: I don't think that's necessarily always the best thing for
- 1:52:50Speaker 4: the team.
- 1:52:50Speaker 3: One of my favorite tip stories is about them telling
- 1:52:53Speaker 3: the offensive line, like, Dan's.
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: Yelling at you again. Like, how do you feel about that?
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: You know, throwing gas on the fire whenever Marino would
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: get upset.
- 1:52:59Speaker 4: He was the worst.
- 1:53:00Speaker 2: Email us about Efton Chisholm's girlfriend.
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: Mr.
- 1:53:03Speaker 2: Kraft, please get this woman an airline ticket so she
- 1:53:06Speaker 2: can watch our boy play. Was anyone else dismayed that
- 1:53:09Speaker 2: she had to drive to Buffalo? But I think she
- 1:53:11Speaker 2: drove other people.
- 1:53:14Speaker 4: No, I'm not dismayed that they have to drive to
- 1:53:16Speaker 4: games like everybody else.
- 1:53:18Speaker 5: Well, she drove to Buffalo.
- 1:53:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:53:21Speaker 5: It's a long drive.
- 1:53:22Speaker 4: I mean, she had the opportunity to fly.
- 1:53:24Speaker 5: We didn't drive.
- 1:53:24Speaker 4: Dan Roach drove.
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: Roach drove.
- 1:53:26Speaker 10: Yeah, Taylor drove.
- 1:53:27Speaker 5: It's not the worst drive.
- 1:53:30Speaker 4: What are we doing? It's just a joke. Yeah, I know,
- 1:53:31Speaker 4: and I'm making fun of it. It's not funny.
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:53:33Speaker 4: It's untrue.
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: Hey, how about C.J. Gardner-Johnson? We didn't talk about that.
- 1:53:38Speaker 4: I know it was a joke. I was trying to
- 1:53:40Speaker 4: be silly.
- 1:53:43Speaker 5: Let's see.
- 1:53:43Speaker 2: Joe writes in Michigan, Can a game be both one
- 1:53:49Speaker 2: by one team and simply given an early Christmas gift
- 1:53:52Speaker 2: by the other?
- 1:53:53Speaker 13: Yes.
- 1:53:54Speaker 2: I really like the after-game comments by the players, keeping
- 1:53:57Speaker 2: their heads clear and focused, and that is surely a
- 1:53:59Speaker 2: reflection of the coach. A good step forward and another
- 1:54:02Speaker 2: challenge coming up with the Raiders. My prediction for season
- 1:54:06Speaker 2: is a flip-flop, undefeated at home instead of on the road.
- 1:54:11Speaker 4: Can you have them?
- 1:54:12Speaker 10: I would just say that we were talking about this
- 1:54:14Speaker 10: on Catch-22. Like, Vrabel has a great knack for, like,
- 1:54:20Speaker 10: keeping the team on the rails. And they played a
- 1:54:24Speaker 10: really bad game down in Jacksonville. And Drake May played awful.
- 1:54:29Speaker 10: And not saying that Josh Allen didn't answer questions yesterday, but...
- 1:54:33Speaker 10: The reactions from the Bills players, I would say, compared
- 1:54:37Speaker 10: to some of the reactions that we saw from the
- 1:54:39Speaker 10: Patriots players when they played poorly, I found that interesting.
- 1:54:44Speaker 5: This is in the Bills' DNA.
- 1:54:45Speaker 2: When we beat them in that win game, the reaction
- 1:54:49Speaker 2: after that game was sour grapes.
- 1:54:51Speaker 4: They were right.
- 1:54:52Speaker 9: Why?
- 1:54:53Speaker 4: They never lost again.
- 1:54:54Speaker 2: I know, but they.
- 1:54:56Speaker 4: They knew what happened in that game, and then they
- 1:54:57Speaker 4: came in and blew doors off twice.
- 1:54:58Speaker 2: I know, but after that game, it was sour grapes.
- 1:55:01Speaker 4: Yes, and they were right.
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: I agree with Evan.
- 1:55:04Speaker 4: They needed a little less C.J. Gardner-Johnson making fun of
- 1:55:06Speaker 4: Efton Chisholm after that game and a little more self-reflection.
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 1:55:10Speaker 4: The win game, they were right. They knew what happened
- 1:55:13Speaker 4: in the game and then they went out and didn't
- 1:55:14Speaker 4: punt the next two times they played in the game.
- 1:55:16Speaker 4: That's not what happened in this game. They played like
- 1:55:19Speaker 4: crap in this game. It had nothing to do with
- 1:55:21Speaker 4: weather or anything else. They got outplayed. And C.J. Gardner-Johnson's
- 1:55:24Speaker 4: being disrespectful to your guy after Chisholm saying a practice
- 1:55:28Speaker 4: squad player made a great play. They needed to look
- 1:55:33Speaker 4: in the mirror. And I'm not saying that he's a
- 1:55:35Speaker 4: whack job. As Rabel said, he's been on eight teams
- 1:55:38Speaker 4: in four years. That's why.
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:55:40Speaker 4: I'm not saying that speaks for the whole Buffalo team,
- 1:55:42Speaker 4: but I kind of agree with Evan. Like, you needed
- 1:55:44Speaker 4: to have a little self-reflection. Why did you play so
- 1:55:46Speaker 4: badly two weeks in a row at home?
- 1:55:48Speaker 10: Yeah. Look in the mirror. That Jacksonville game was probably
- 1:55:52Speaker 10: Drake May's worst game of his career. And, like, you know,
- 1:55:58Speaker 10: he apologized for it the next day, I guess, down
- 1:56:00Speaker 10: in Buffalo. But, like, Maxwell Harrison stormed out of the
- 1:56:03Speaker 10: locker room and didn't talk to anybody.
- 1:56:04Speaker 5: Again.
- 1:56:05Speaker 4: And he was one of the— He played a terrible game.
- 1:56:07Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:56:08Speaker 4: Answer the questions. The other kid did. The rookie who's
- 1:56:11Speaker 4: getting a lot of praise, by the way, by veterans.
- 1:56:14Speaker 4: And I don't know how to pronounce his name.
- 1:56:16Speaker 2: They will always lose. When it comes down to it,
- 1:56:21Speaker 2: they're not going to be the winner. So that's the
- 1:56:24Speaker 2: way it is. If you play in Buffalo, that's how
- 1:56:27Speaker 2: it's going to be.
- 1:56:28Speaker 10: I just think it's a little bit of like.
- 1:56:31Speaker 5: I agree.
- 1:56:31Speaker 10: Leadership from the coaching level and the head coach level,
- 1:56:35Speaker 10: I would say.
- 1:56:36Speaker 4: And this is what I talked about last week. Sean McDermott,
- 1:56:40Speaker 4: I think, is a very flawed coach, but he would
- 1:56:42Speaker 4: have had his team ready to play better than they
- 1:56:44Speaker 4: played Sunday. Joe Brady probably looked at it and said,
- 1:56:47Speaker 4: we've got to fix these things, but we won, right?
- 1:56:50Speaker 2: How red would his ass be after that game?
- 1:56:53Speaker 4: Right, and they would have responded again. They responded to
- 1:56:57Speaker 4: the wind game. Like, this is why I say it's
- 1:56:58Speaker 4: not a good analogy.
- 1:56:59Speaker 2: Yeah, they respond right up to the playoffs, and then
- 1:57:01Speaker 2: they lose.
- 1:57:03Speaker 4: Not to the Patriots. They didn't punt. They won 47-17.
- 1:57:05Speaker 10: That was the least competitive game I've ever watched.
- 1:57:08Speaker 5: Correct.
- 1:57:09Speaker 4: This is my point. That's what the Buffalo Bills needed
- 1:57:11Speaker 4: to do on Sunday after their performance against the Chargers. Instead,
- 1:57:16Speaker 4: they played another terrible game.
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: Well, to Fred, there's also, to me, an element of just.
- 1:57:21Speaker 3: pressure building on we've got a great quarterback and we
- 1:57:24Speaker 3: just changed head coach and we just changed our defense.
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: What is he 30 now the clock is a ticking.
- 1:57:29Speaker 4: And to every point like let's listen right so let's
- 1:57:32Speaker 4: talk about so they were missing one guy so like
- 1:57:34Speaker 4: the patriots are missing guys and the bills are missing
- 1:57:37Speaker 4: guys so what right they both are missing their top
- 1:57:39Speaker 4: so you're missing your top corner you have a first
- 1:57:42Speaker 4: round pick who already failed and is on like three
- 1:57:44Speaker 4: other teams in kair elam you know, cornerback. Now they
- 1:57:47Speaker 4: have another first round cornerback who's in his second year
- 1:57:50Speaker 4: and he was getting beat all over the field the
- 1:57:52Speaker 4: other day and Maxwell Houston. And like to Evan's point,
- 1:57:54Speaker 4: he storms out of the locker room and doesn't talk.
- 1:57:56Speaker 10: He apologized yesterday. He came to the point. I'm just
- 1:57:59Speaker 10: trying to give the guy all the context, but like
- 1:58:02Speaker 10: it just, I take a, I love the tight pants guys.
- 1:58:06Speaker 10: I love the OCs and the brilliant play callers and
- 1:58:08Speaker 10: all those types of guys. but vrabel just has this
- 1:58:11Speaker 10: like uncanny ability to control the temperature of the team
- 1:58:16Speaker 10: and like know which buttons to.
- 1:58:18Speaker 5: Push and when to push them and set the temperature.
- 1:58:20Speaker 10: Yeah and like it's unbelievable how he like this could
- 1:58:23Speaker 10: have gone off the rails They were 1-2 going into
- 1:58:26Speaker 10: a really good team's house in a big game, and
- 1:58:29Speaker 10: they could have laid another egg.
- 1:58:30Speaker 4: So I'll tell you something that I sort of heard
- 1:58:32Speaker 4: just in talking to some people. And I know it's
- 1:58:34Speaker 4: real quick, but There was a lot of talk in
- 1:58:37Speaker 4: the first couple of weeks that he's kind of let
- 1:58:40Speaker 4: the foot off the gas a little bit. I'm talking
- 1:58:41Speaker 4: about Vrabel.
- 1:58:42Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 1:58:42Speaker 4: And then the performance in Jacksonville was like, all right,
- 1:58:45Speaker 4: enough of that crap.
- 1:58:46Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 1:58:46Speaker 4: You know, we can't do it that way. Like, this
- 1:58:48Speaker 4: is what I'm saying. So you don't have to be,
- 1:58:50Speaker 4: you know, a hard ass all the time.
- 1:58:52Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:58:53Speaker 4: But you have to understand when you need to be.
- 1:58:54Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:58:55Speaker 4: And, you know, maybe part of that, you know, is
- 1:58:57Speaker 4: Mike Vrabel's been around a few years and Joe Brady's
- 1:58:59Speaker 4: in his fourth game as a head coach.
- 1:59:01Speaker 2: All right, Whitey, where's your hat?
- 1:59:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:59:05Speaker 12: Good afternoon, gentlemen. Uh, you know, it was, uh, like,
- 1:59:09Speaker 12: like all you guys said, I was just really looking
- 1:59:11Speaker 12: for some improvement going into Buffalo. I mean, with the
- 1:59:15Speaker 12: right side, uh, Morgan Moses banged up your third right
- 1:59:19Speaker 12: guard playing, um, obviously without the Christians, I just figured,
- 1:59:24Speaker 12: you know what, show some improvement, you know, look like
- 1:59:26Speaker 12: you're in the fight.
- 1:59:28Speaker 14: Um, but so this was a, it was a huge way.
- 1:59:31Speaker 12: Um, and, and a couple of points, um, Do.
- 1:59:34Speaker 11: You think that Drake May will look at how the
- 1:59:41Speaker 11: game was finished and looked at the huge mistake by
- 1:59:45Speaker 11: the other quarterback and say, wow, that was me. I
- 1:59:49Speaker 11: need to really get something from that and, and yeah,
- 1:59:54Speaker 11: And the other thing, the other point is just how
- 1:59:58Speaker 11: well the younger guys on defense are playing. And the
- 2:00:02Speaker 11: rest of the D did just enough to stay in
- 2:00:04Speaker 11: the game in the third.
- 2:00:06Speaker 14: And fourth quarter.
- 2:00:08Speaker 12: They played a great, it was a great game plan
- 2:00:10Speaker 12: in the first half. And I think that first half
- 2:00:13Speaker 12: stop in the run really made Brady, Brady panic. And,
- 2:00:18Speaker 12: and as you say, he, he stopped giving the ball.
- 2:00:21Speaker 18: I don't know why he would stop.
- 2:00:23Speaker 1: Giving the ball.
- 2:00:24Speaker 12: Uh, to his, uh, the name, his running back.
- 2:00:28Speaker 5: Yeah. Okay.
- 2:00:29Speaker 10: Actually gave you the call in the second half. They
- 2:00:31Speaker 10: got to the run.
- 2:00:32Speaker 2: In terms of like seeing Josh Allen make that, I mean,
- 2:00:36Speaker 2: Drake has plenty of reel of his own to look
- 2:00:39Speaker 2: at those mistakes, but it doesn't hurt to see a
- 2:00:42Speaker 2: player of that stature, hey, he does it too.
- 2:00:45Speaker 1: Right.
- 2:00:46Speaker 5: You know, and you can learn from it a little bit,
- 2:00:49Speaker 5: but I don't want to overblow that.
- 2:00:53Speaker 1: Seeing some.
- 2:00:54Speaker 4: I think the bigger thing that Drake May needs to
- 2:00:56Speaker 4: see is all the stuff that Evan talked about, the
- 2:00:58Speaker 4: timing and when these plays are here.
- 2:01:00Speaker 5: This is what can happen when you do it this way.
- 2:01:02Speaker 4: When you run it the way we run it in practice,
- 2:01:05Speaker 4: this is the success that you can have.
- 2:01:06Speaker 2: Alright, that's going to be it for this edition of
