Speaker 6: And that's because yesterday the announcement was made that there's
• 1:50
Speaker 6: a new guy coming to head up the West Virginia SSAC.
• 1:54
Speaker 6: And again Fred Pursinger literally running down the hall yesterday
• 1:57
Speaker 6: said I got breaking news, and so I put Uncle
• 1:59
Speaker 6: Fred on the air and he broke the story yesterday
• 2:02
Speaker 6: Deary Metrics mid Day, Well, Fred's going to join us.
• 2:04
Speaker 4: Get a little bit more clarification on some things.
• 2:05
Speaker 6: So he's going to join us to talk about that,
• 2:07
Speaker 6: uh coming up, that change of the helm of the
• 2:10
Speaker 6: s Sac coming up a little bit later on. Also
• 2:13
Speaker 6: Brad mclhanney is going to join us, and as we speak,
• 2:17
Speaker 6: well within the next hour or so, there is going
• 2:19
Speaker 6: to I think it actually starts a tent. There's going
• 2:21
Speaker 6: to be a hearing in Judge Berger's courtroom in Charleston
• 2:26
Speaker 6: and has to do with Niosh in Morgantown. There is
• 2:28
Speaker 6: a single coal miner that has filed a lawsuit about that,
• 2:32
Speaker 6: and so Brad will give us a little.
• 2:34
Speaker 4: Preview of that. Let's speaking of previews.
• 2:36
  Speaker 3: TJ.
• 2:36
Speaker 6: Meadows will stop by with a preview of today's Metro
• 2:38
Speaker 6: News talk line and more. That's kind of loaded up today.
• 2:42
Speaker 6: Our good friend Mayor Scott James, the Saint Albans is here. Hey,
• 2:45
  Speaker 6: no man, I'm.
• 2:46
Speaker 7: Doing great, Dave, nice new digs here man, as first
• 2:49
Speaker 7: time I've been here since you already did the studio.
• 2:51
  Speaker 4: You like it?
• 2:52
  Speaker 3: Yeah, very nice.
• 2:53
Speaker 6: Yeah, it's good enough to put on the air. It
• 2:54
Speaker 6: is we should, we should, we should actually put this
• 2:56
  Speaker 6: on the radio.
• 2:57
Speaker 3: It's yeah, But then you have to put our mugs
• 2:59
  Speaker 3: on that.
• 3:00
Speaker 6: Well, they put my mug on in the afternoon on
• 3:02
Speaker 6: Metro News television between two and three, right, And I
• 3:07
  Speaker 6: don't you know that's there's a reason I chose radio.
• 3:10
Speaker 6: And yes, go ahead and hit me with a you
• 3:11
Speaker 6: got to face for radio because I've never heard that before.
• 3:14
Speaker 4: So you're rock in the title of hat house the
• 3:17
  Speaker 4: golf game.
• 3:18
Speaker 7: Uh, well, it's sporadic because I don't get out very often.
• 3:23
Speaker 4: So to make yourself feel better, just wear the hat
• 3:24
  Speaker 4: I do.
• 3:25
Speaker 3: I just wear that. I got all kinds of titless hats.
• 3:27
Speaker 6: Okay, all right, So you know, I wanted to kind
• 3:30
Speaker 6: of catch us up with some things that are going on.
• 3:33
  Speaker 4: Yesterday.
• 3:34
Speaker 6: There was a groundbreaking for a new pharmacy on the
• 3:36
  Speaker 6: Loop yesterday.
• 3:37
Speaker 4: Talk a little bit about that.
• 3:38
Speaker 7: Yeah, very exciting. Family care has been a vital part
• 3:43
Speaker 7: of growth in Saint Albans. They got their facility at
• 3:47
Speaker 7: the Loop where you can go in and see the doctor.
• 3:49
Speaker 7: They've got a facility on sixth Avenue that is billing
• 3:53
Speaker 7: and warehousing. And now we broke ground yesterday for Family
• 3:58
Speaker 7: Cares first pharmacy and it's going to be on the
• 4:02
Speaker 7: southwest corner of the present facility down there at the Loup.
• 4:06
Speaker 3: So we're excited about that.
• 4:08
Speaker 7: I mean, it brings people to Saint Albans and its
• 4:11
Speaker 7: economic growth and you know, their footprint and Saint Albans
• 4:15
Speaker 7: continues to grow, makes our community a healthier, safer community.
• 4:19
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 4:20
Speaker 6: We talked to Jennifer Farr from that group on the
• 4:22
Speaker 6: show yesterday about that, and she says that they plan
• 4:24
Speaker 6: on having that done by you know, and they've already
• 4:28
Speaker 6: got some things going on there, but they plan on
• 4:29
Speaker 6: having it done by summer.
• 4:30
  Speaker 4: That's that's pretty good.
• 4:31
  Speaker 3: I think.
• 4:32
Speaker 7: So pre Construction is doing the work I believe, and
• 4:35
Speaker 7: they always do a good job.
• 4:36
Speaker 4: So they do they do indeed. So what else going
• 4:39
Speaker 4: on in Saint Aubin.
• 4:40
Speaker 7: We got a lot happening. It's tis the season out
• 4:43
Speaker 7: starting to warm up a little bit.
• 4:46
Speaker 3: Starts off this Saturday.
• 4:47
Speaker 7: We've got two five one seven seven Foundations having their
• 4:52
Speaker 7: event annual event, Make Say Shine and what they do
• 4:57
Speaker 7: any organization that wants to bring volunteers to go around
• 5:02
Speaker 7: and clean up the community the two five one seven
• 5:07
Speaker 7: seven Foundation, We'll give each individual ten dollars. So let's
• 5:13
Speaker 7: say organization brings twenty people to work that's two hundred
• 5:17
Speaker 7: dollars for your organization.
• 5:19
Speaker 6: So'd be great for you know, like little leagues or
• 5:22
  Speaker 6: civic organizations, anybody.
• 5:24
Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely, there's no doubt about that.
• 5:26
Speaker 7: And they're meeting at Grace Baptist Tempo I think at
• 5:30
Speaker 7: eight o'clock Saturday morning. So if you want to be
• 5:34
Speaker 7: part of that show up and make say shine.
• 5:36
Speaker 4: Yeah, indeed, then that foundation does a does a great job.
• 5:40
  Speaker 8: Yeah.
• 5:40
Speaker 7: Wald Hall's heads that up, Delicate Hall, and he does
• 5:44
  Speaker 7: a fantastic job.
• 5:45
Speaker 6: He's been on the show numerous times talking about that.
• 5:49
Speaker 6: He's probably happy not to talk.
• 5:51
Speaker 4: To just to get away from the legislature right now,
• 5:53
Speaker 4: just not have to talk about that.
• 5:54
Speaker 6: Yeah, I taxed the Walt the other day and I
• 5:58
Speaker 6: was trying to book him on a on a particular
• 6:00
Speaker 6: day and he wasn't available that day. He probably thought
• 6:02
Speaker 6: I wanted to talk too much legislature. I think I'd
• 6:04
Speaker 6: give them at little bit of a break from that.
• 6:06
Speaker 6: What else are I going on?
• 6:07
Speaker 7: Well, we got a water tank project that's already began.
• 6:10
Speaker 7: We're putting up the East End up on the hill
• 6:14
Speaker 7: behind City Park. They've started letting the pipe and hopefully
• 6:19
Speaker 7: that'll be done by the end of this summer, it's
• 6:22
Speaker 7: a million a million gallon tanks. So it's going to
• 6:26
Speaker 7: provide water in time of need if we ever need
• 6:29
Speaker 7: it to the east end of tank.
• 6:31
Speaker 4: Now, what would be some of the instances where you
• 6:33
  Speaker 4: would need it.
• 6:34
Speaker 7: Well, if the water plant goes down loses power, we've
• 6:39
Speaker 7: got enough water there for two to three days anyway,
• 6:44
Speaker 7: So you know, any any event that makes us quit
• 6:47
Speaker 7: producing water to water plant, then we utilize the water
• 6:51
Speaker 7: tanks in Saint omers All.
• 6:53
Speaker 6: Right, Dave Island Show on five eighty Live is brought
• 6:56
Speaker 6: to you by by Morgan and Morgan, America's largest injury
• 6:58
  Speaker 6: law firm.
• 6:59
Speaker 4: If you're injured, visit for the People dot com.
• 7:01
Speaker 6: And of course you said it is the season, so
• 7:03
Speaker 6: you got a lot of warm weather Activiti's be time
• 7:07
Speaker 6: for Yakfest here before you know it of us right.
• 7:09
Speaker 7: Yep, June thirteenth and fourteenth is Jackfest promises to be
• 7:13
Speaker 7: another great two day event. And then of course on
• 7:18
Speaker 7: the morning of the fourteenth is the largest flatwater kayaking
• 7:21
Speaker 7: event in the country. The Tour to Coal probably about
• 7:24
Speaker 7: another eighteen hundred and two thousand kayakes going down the river.
• 7:29
Speaker 3: So you know, guys. You can go to.
• 7:32
Speaker 7: Tour to Coal Facebook page and sign up. They've got
• 7:36
  Speaker 7: a link care.
• 7:37
Speaker 3: That you can get signed up for tor to Coal
• 7:39
Speaker 3: if you want to.
• 7:40
Speaker 7: And we have people that come from as many as
• 7:42
Speaker 7: twelve to fifteen states around the country that participate in this.
• 7:47
Speaker 6: I mean, it's huge, and it just gets bigger and
• 7:49
Speaker 6: better every year. And of course, the thing one of
• 7:51
Speaker 6: the things that always amazes me about Saint Auban's is
• 7:55
Speaker 6: and if you follow the city on social media whatever,
• 7:58
Speaker 6: you've always got something going on, especially in the warm
• 8:01
Speaker 6: weather months. I mean last week, I think you did
• 8:02
Speaker 6: a pub crawl last Friday night. I think downtown sat
• 8:07
Speaker 6: Saturday night was a Saturday night. Okay, No, it was
• 8:09
Speaker 6: first Friday night. It was Friday night.
• 8:10
Speaker 4: It was Friday night.
• 8:11
Speaker 6: Yeah, that you did that for in conjunction was sinking
• 8:13
Speaker 6: to Mayo, which was a couple of days later, of course,
• 8:16
Speaker 6: but there's always something going on.
• 8:18
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 8:19
Speaker 7: The Alzheimer's Association approached us about doing one, which you know,
• 8:23
Speaker 7: anytime we can help them raise money and get closer
• 8:27
Speaker 7: to a cure for that terrible disease, we're always willing
• 8:30
Speaker 7: to help out. And the weather didn't cooperate greatly, but
• 8:34
Speaker 7: they still profited and so that was a good, good
• 8:37
Speaker 7: first event for the Alzheimer's Association.
• 8:42
Speaker 3: This Sinco to Mayo pub crawl.
• 8:44
Speaker 6: And you've got advantage there the way that the City
• 8:48
Speaker 6: of Saint Albans is laid out on old Main there,
• 8:50
Speaker 6: because you can actually, unlike a lot of towns, you
• 8:53
Speaker 6: can shut down, you know, you in your the majority
• 8:57
Speaker 6: of your main street and still have plenty of ways
• 8:59
Speaker 6: to get in and out and get around and stuff.
• 9:01
Speaker 6: And that's that's a big advantage when you have these
• 9:02
  Speaker 6: events like that.
• 9:03
Speaker 3: Yeah, it really does.
• 9:04
Speaker 7: And we're about ready to finalize our PODA Public Outdoor
• 9:08
Speaker 7: Designated Area, which is going to be a boost for
• 9:13
Speaker 7: all of our festivals and events like pub crawls. And
• 9:19
  Speaker 7: it's through the abc A and they've tweaked a little
• 9:22
Speaker 7: bit at the legislature and made it better. When they
• 9:25
Speaker 7: first passed it, you couldn't use it for fairs and festivals.
• 9:28
  Speaker 3: Now you can.
• 9:30
Speaker 7: And the PODA district will run on Main Street from
• 9:34
Speaker 7: Third Street all the way to be Street and a
• 9:39
Speaker 7: little bit down c Street where the Joe Dobbs Applaza
• 9:43
Speaker 7: is and so people that are partect partaking in beer
• 9:50
Speaker 7: during these events can go in the bar and then
• 9:54
Speaker 7: walk out with their drink. You don't have to have
• 9:56
Speaker 7: a beer booth on the street.
• 9:58
  Speaker 4: Right.
• 9:59
Speaker 6: And again these are I mean that they're done in Charleston.
• 10:01
Speaker 6: There's a few of those in Charleston, and other cities
• 10:03
Speaker 6: have done these as well. Basically, what it is it's
• 10:05
Speaker 6: a designated area. Yes that you can and different cities
• 10:09
Speaker 6: do it different ways. But you can purchase a cup
• 10:12
Speaker 6: and as you said, when you have events like you know,
• 10:14
Speaker 6: your chili festivals and things like that, you can actually
• 10:17
Speaker 6: purchase the cup and you can take that into the
• 10:19
Speaker 6: individual places that serve if they if they choose to
• 10:22
Speaker 6: participate in and maybe all of them wont, but uh.
• 10:26
  Speaker 6: And it's it's it's been a huge success in every
• 10:29
Speaker 6: city that's done in and there there have been I
• 10:32
Speaker 6: mean very little, if any problems associated with them.
• 10:35
Speaker 7: No, there are very few problems. And they started over
• 10:39
Speaker 7: in Ohio as an economic development tool and uh, we
• 10:44
Speaker 7: you know, saw that here in West Virginia and it's
• 10:47
Speaker 7: proven to be very effective in economic growth.
• 10:50
  Speaker 3: Uh.
• 10:51
Speaker 7: And you know that should be finalized here very soon.
• 10:54
Speaker 7: We've got to get the signs up to where it
• 10:56
Speaker 7: says PoTA district thens no alcohol beyond this point. Yeah,
• 11:00
Speaker 7: they'll come down and inspect and if it's clear, we'll
• 11:04
Speaker 7: be clear to have the PODA district. Then we will
• 11:08
Speaker 7: set certain dates that we're gonna do PODA. We won't
• 11:10
Speaker 7: do it every weekend, I don't think, but you know,
• 11:15
Speaker 7: this is our first year doing it. We've got something
• 11:18
Speaker 7: new this year that we're bringing to Old Main. It's
• 11:20
Speaker 7: called Saturday Night on Old Main Day. And what's gonna
• 11:25
Speaker 7: happen is at the Joe Dobbs Plaza. We're gonna start
• 11:28
Speaker 7: playing music at six thirty. We're gonna close street down
• 11:31
Speaker 7: around four thirty and uh so there'll be music playing
• 11:36
Speaker 7: from uh six thirty to eight thirty. There's gonna be
• 11:39
Speaker 7: food trucks on the street, and then at the end
• 11:43
Speaker 7: of Old Main and juncture of B Street, there's gonna
• 11:47
Speaker 7: be a big movie screen and then we're gonna show
• 11:50
Speaker 7: a movie at dark.
• 11:52
Speaker 3: We've got four dates for that.
• 11:54
Speaker 7: May twenty fourth, May thirty first, July twenty sixth, in
• 11:58
  Speaker 7: August second.
• 11:59
Speaker 3: So we're very excited.
• 12:00
Speaker 7: About this event bringing more people to Saint Albans and uh,
• 12:06
Speaker 7: like I've said many times before, I found out if
• 12:09
Speaker 7: I can get him to Saint Albans and they visit
• 12:11
Speaker 7: our shops and our bars and our restaurants, they keep coming.
• 12:14
Speaker 4: Back, indeed they do.
• 12:15
Speaker 6: And again you've got some good shops down on Maine,
• 12:19
Speaker 6: and not just on Old Main but in other places
• 12:21
Speaker 6: as well, and some great restaurants. A couple of my
• 12:23
Speaker 6: favorite places uh in the world are down there. A
• 12:26
Speaker 6: big shout out to the two guy and the folks
• 12:28
Speaker 6: at Shuckers uh uh uh. And also the Cafe of
• 12:31
Speaker 6: course as legendary. And there's and and and Drummis and
• 12:34
Speaker 6: the other places there too.
• 12:35
Speaker 7: Yeah, all all of the see Cafe Drummers, the Tap, Shuckers,
• 12:44
Speaker 7: and Cosmels all and Co River Coffee all is going
• 12:47
  Speaker 7: to participate.
• 12:48
Speaker 3: In the poda. Okay, so we're excited about that.
• 12:51
Speaker 7: And speaking of Old Maine and businesses, we had a
• 12:54
Speaker 7: ribbon cutting at sixty three Old Maine. Used to be
• 12:58
Speaker 7: uh Frank McCormick's building. He had multiple ventilation products in there,
• 13:03
Speaker 7: but he retired. There's five businesses going in there that
• 13:07
Speaker 7: used to be the old Herbert's Music Company building. I
• 13:10
Speaker 7: took guitar lessons there for about three months and realized
• 13:13
Speaker 7: that I was to adhd.
• 13:15
Speaker 3: You learn how to play the guitar.
• 13:17
  Speaker 4: Same here.
• 13:17
Speaker 6: Yeah, my dad played guitar and he tried and at
• 13:20
Speaker 6: some point he said, maybe you ought to pursue this
• 13:22
Speaker 6: radio thing because he gave up on me go ahead.
• 13:25
Speaker 7: But you got Meriakei Muraki Salon sixty three main events.
• 13:31
Speaker 7: If you want to rent a space out for you know,
• 13:36
Speaker 7: a party of baby Shire or anything like that. You
• 13:42
Speaker 7: got Bowsell, which is a company that picks up leaks
• 13:47
  Speaker 7: through I think it's ultrasound.
• 13:51
Speaker 3: Die Rise Kill LLC.
• 13:53
Speaker 7: They do masks and makeup and cosmetics for movie and they.
• 14:00
Speaker 3: Sell for around the world.
• 14:02
Speaker 7: They're international and Beauty of Skin Aesthetics by Riley. So
• 14:06
Speaker 7: we've got five businesses that opened up with one ribbon cutting,
• 14:11
  Speaker 7: and I.
• 14:11
Speaker 6: Really wish and we'll wrap it up after this. Man,
• 14:13
Speaker 6: I really wish that more cities would do that because
• 14:15
Speaker 6: you've got these older buildings, you know, throughout the Kanawha Valley,
• 14:19
Speaker 6: and sometimes it's you know, this is not in nineteen
• 14:22
Speaker 6: forty eight, so we don't have the need for necessarily
• 14:24
Speaker 6: the big department stores like we used to have. But
• 14:27
Speaker 6: you got these buildings there, and I wish more people
• 14:29
Speaker 6: would do that where you get two or three four.
• 14:31
Speaker 6: I know they've got a great one in downtown Huntington
• 14:34
Speaker 6: where they did what they did that exact thing where
• 14:36
Speaker 6: they get three, four or five businesses all to go
• 14:38
Speaker 6: in almost like a little mini mall into these buildings,
• 14:41
Speaker 6: utilize the space and everybody benefits.
• 14:44
Speaker 7: Yeah, everybody does. The city benefits, the businesses benefit. And
• 14:50

• 18:39
Speaker 6: think you were doing family things that kind of negated
• 18:42
Speaker 6: the whole the whole vacation part.
• 18:44
  Speaker 4: Right.
• 18:45
Speaker 8: I'm at a time of life, so surely you've got
• 18:48
Speaker 8: to run around greedy and whalen sometimes, you know, tack
• 18:51
Speaker 8: some of their appointments, get their hair done, whatever, you
• 18:54
Speaker 8: got to run them around.
• 18:56
Speaker 6: The cats never leave the house, man, unlike unlike your kids. Man,
• 18:59
Speaker 6: My cat's never leave the house.
• 19:00
  Speaker 4: So I don't. They don't have a lot of appointments
• 19:03
  Speaker 4: to go to.
• 19:05
Speaker 8: Well, anyway, college aged daughters do. And there are times
• 19:10
Speaker 8: of year when you know, they will change locations and
• 19:14
Speaker 8: they have a lot of stuff, and their stuff has
• 19:17
Speaker 8: to be you know, boxed up and stuck in a
• 19:19
Speaker 8: car or you aul or whatever and transported somewhere else.
• 19:24
Speaker 8: My college aged daughters are in two different locations, and
• 19:29
Speaker 8: there was less wear and tear on my brain, but
• 19:32
Speaker 8: more wear in tear on my back. So I was
• 19:36
Speaker 8: taken them places alone. More appropriately, I was taking their
• 19:40
  Speaker 8: stuff places.
• 19:41
Speaker 6: I have always wondered why with you know, and you've
• 19:45
Speaker 6: got college age daughters, why it is that we don't
• 19:48
Speaker 6: have a better system for college kids to have to
• 19:51
Speaker 6: take all of their crap out, you know, after the
• 19:53
Speaker 6: end of every semester, move it somewhere else, only to
• 19:56
Speaker 6: bring it back in two to three months.
• 19:57
Speaker 4: I mean, there should there be a.
• 19:59
Speaker 6: Better system there just once that they live off campus,
• 20:02
Speaker 6: that it works out well. Just I've never understood, never
• 20:05
Speaker 6: understood why we don't have a better system for.
• 20:07
Speaker 8: The Well, capitalism will handle that to you for a
• 20:10
Speaker 8: certain degree. There are storage units that will charge you

• 20:17

Speaker 6: All right, so you're back in the saddle, and uh
• 20:40
Speaker 6: you're keeping an eye on a court case in Charleston today, right.
• 20:45
Speaker 8: Yeah, some things have not changed, you know, the ever
• 20:48
Speaker 8: developing situation with the federal government and the Department of
• 20:52
Speaker 8: Government Efficiency. Uh, this is one that has been affecting
• 20:56
Speaker 8: West Virginia for weeks. Uh. It is the National Institute
• 21:01
Speaker 8: of Occupational Safety and Health, which has a significant presence
• 21:05
Speaker 8: in Morgantown, so those are not only West Virtiny jobs,
• 21:09
Speaker 8: but that occupational safety and health extends to a variety
• 21:14
Speaker 8: of sectors of the workplace, including coal miners. On one
• 21:18
Speaker 8: of the federally mandated duties NIOSH does is screening for
• 21:25
Speaker 8: black lung. You know, you'd wish in this day and age,
• 21:28
Speaker 8: black long would be a relic of the past, but
• 21:30
Speaker 8: if not, and the federal law requires screening to be
• 21:36
Speaker 8: made available to coal miners. If coal miners are identified
• 21:41
Speaker 8: as having developed black lung, then they have a right
• 21:45
Speaker 8: to transfer to a non underground workplace role, but it
• 21:52
Speaker 8: does require that screening. All that's all up in the
• 21:55
Speaker 8: air because NIOSH in Morgantown, which is the place that
• 21:58
Speaker 8: does that, has all but gone dark most employees, hundreds
• 22:02
Speaker 8: of them now with reduction in force notices that's not
• 22:07
Speaker 8: yet permanent, but most of them are not on the
• 22:10
  Speaker 8: work site anymore.
• 22:11
  Speaker 2: So.
• 22:11
Speaker 8: There was a coal miner who says that he sought
• 22:18
Speaker 8: his screening from a local lab late last fall and
• 22:22
Speaker 8: then sent it on to NIOSH, and he and his
• 22:27
Speaker 8: lawyers say in their corporations that they have gotten no
• 22:31
Speaker 8: response yet because NIOSH has gone dark. This coal miner
• 22:37
Speaker 8: contends to represent himself and others similarly situated, So other
• 22:43
Speaker 8: other coal miners who would have a question about their
• 22:46
Speaker 8: own health and whether they should have accommodation made for
• 22:51
Speaker 8: them in the workplace. That federal lawsuit where the coal
• 22:57
Speaker 8: miner and his lawyers are seeking a temporary injunction has
• 23:00
Speaker 8: gone before US District Judge Irene Berger. She has a
• 23:04
Speaker 8: hearing just in a few minutes ten o'clock on that
• 23:09
Speaker 8: temporary injunction question. The most recent thing that's happened until
• 23:14
Speaker 8: now is the federal government has put in its side.
• 23:16
Speaker 8: This is the being sued is the US Department of
• 23:22
Speaker 8: Health and Human Services, and then Robert F. Kennedy Junior,
• 23:26
Speaker 8: in his role as the secretary leading that agency. They're
• 23:29
Speaker 8: being represented by US attorneys in Charleston, not in their
• 23:36
Speaker 8: more familiar criminal role, but in their civil role for
• 23:40
Speaker 8: civil capacity. And the argument on that side is threefold.
• 23:45
Speaker 8: One is I have no way of knowing. But one
• 23:49
Speaker 8: they're saying that the lead plaintiff actually did receive a
• 23:52
Speaker 8: response a negative a negative outcome on whether he has
• 23:58
Speaker 8: black long back in December. So the federal government's access
• 24:03
Speaker 8: thing that that's already being processed and therefore what is
• 24:08
Speaker 8: happening at NIOSH leaves him with no standing like it's
• 24:11
Speaker 8: already gone through. You know, they're saying, you don't have
• 24:14
Speaker 8: black lung time, no way of me knowing who's telling
• 24:17
  Speaker 8: the truth.
• 24:17
Speaker 6: Right, Yeah, And you know, yes yesterday Brad on the
• 24:22
Speaker 6: Metro News midday show, we actually talked to a retiree
• 24:25
Speaker 6: of NIOSH And obviously some of the employees there have
• 24:29
Speaker 6: to be guarded in what they what they say until
• 24:33
Speaker 6: it's one hundred percent a done deal. It looks to
• 24:36
Speaker 6: me like what came out Friday night at six thirty,
• 24:39
Speaker 6: which UMWA President Cecil Roberts and others slam called it cowardly.
• 24:43
Speaker 6: When the statement came out on six point thirty on
• 24:46
Speaker 6: a Friday, it's basically saying it doesn't look good for
• 24:49
  Speaker 6: the future.
• 24:51
Speaker 4: A lot of the.
• 24:51
Speaker 6: Employees can't necessarily speak out against it, but the retirees can.
• 24:57
Speaker 6: And we had the lady on the show yes yesterday
• 25:01
Speaker 6: who is a retired missus Wolf from there, and she's
• 25:03
Speaker 6: been very, very vocal about this, and I mean she
• 25:07
Speaker 6: puts a lot of even though she's retired from there.
• 25:10
Speaker 6: And I would urge people if they get a chance
• 25:11
Speaker 6: to go back to wv metronews dot com and listen
• 25:13
Speaker 6: to that interview that Amanda and I did with her yesterday.
• 25:16
  Speaker 4: She's been been.
• 25:17
Speaker 6: Very vocal about what's going what's gone on at Niosh.
• 25:22
Speaker 8: This was Anita Wolf.
• 25:24
Speaker 4: Wolf, Yes I can think of her first name.
• 25:26
Speaker 8: Yeah, overseeing the very program I've been talking about in
• 25:29
Speaker 8: the black lung screening. And you know, her point to
• 25:32
Speaker 8: you and to Amanda was that if things continue to
• 25:36
Speaker 8: proceed at this trajectory, she thinks coal miners will develop
• 25:40
Speaker 8: black lung and lose their lives. And you know, certainly
• 25:45
Speaker 8: the people who who run this program are not currently
• 25:49
Speaker 8: working technically. That is not yet a permanent situation. And
• 25:55
Speaker 8: that's that's the second of the arguments that the federal
• 25:58
Speaker 8: government is making. Actually that the federal government is saying
• 26:04
Speaker 8: that there can't be a lawsuit demonstrating harm because this
• 26:08
Speaker 8: hasn't hardened up yet. It is not yet permanent. These
• 26:13
Speaker 8: job losses are are not yet set in stone, and
• 26:16
Speaker 8: it could be that some are saved, that there could
• 26:19
Speaker 8: be a reorganization. You know, I'm no lawyer. The question
• 26:24
Speaker 8: I have on that is, well, if you if you
• 26:26
Speaker 8: can't sue if you're this coal miner and you think
• 26:29
Speaker 8: you're at risk of black long and you are not
• 26:32
Speaker 8: yet allowed to sue because it's not permanent in terms
• 26:37
Speaker 8: of the reorganization, well then when could you sue? Only
• 26:40
Speaker 8: when the jobs are gone forever, only when the function
• 26:43
Speaker 8: of the federal government is zeroed out, then it's okay
• 26:46
Speaker 8: to sue. You know, I don't know, I'm no lawyer.
• 26:51
Speaker 8: It'll get figured out in court. But double following the logic.
• 26:56
Speaker 6: Yeah, and again that hearing is at ten o'clock. Can
• 26:58
Speaker 6: we keep a close eye on that, so we urge
• 26:59
Speaker 6: people to keep listening to the stations and also follow
• 27:02
Speaker 6: you on the website and on social media as well.
• 27:05
Speaker 6: Speaking to social media, I want to run this by
• 27:07
Speaker 6: before we let you go here. Former US Senator, governor
• 27:13
Speaker 6: of Secretary of State all things Above, Joe Manchin out
• 27:19
Speaker 6: The Hill first reported that he wrote in a post
• 27:22
Speaker 6: on the social media platform x last night that elections
• 27:26
Speaker 6: in West Virginia quote are heading in the wrong direction
• 27:30
Speaker 6: given the rank choice voting ban from March and a
• 27:33
Speaker 6: move from the legislature to potentially close primaries to only
• 27:35
Speaker 6: party members starting in twenty twenty six. Let me give
• 27:37
Speaker 6: you a quick quote here, lawmakers is, according to Mansion,
• 27:40
Speaker 6: lawmakers just banned rank choice voting even though we've never
• 27:43
Speaker 6: used it. At the same time to trying to shut
• 27:45
Speaker 6: out over three hundred thousand independent voters from participating in
• 27:49
Speaker 6: primary elections. That's nearly thirty percent of West Virginia voters
• 27:52
Speaker 6: being told their voices don't matter. This isn't leadership, it's
• 27:55
Speaker 6: political gamesmanship. And that's according to former Senate or Joe Manchin,
• 28:01
Speaker 6: who put that out on X last night. So, number one,
• 28:04
Speaker 6: I'll say, anybody that thought Joe Manson was going to
• 28:06
Speaker 6: go away quietly, I think you're sadly mistaken. I said
• 28:08
Speaker 6: that that he, you know, Mansion, is going to be
• 28:11
Speaker 6: around until he's dying breath, speaking out on things that
• 28:15
Speaker 6: are of importance to him. What do you make of
• 28:16
Speaker 6: that statement by by Senator Mansion reported by The.
• 28:18
Speaker 8: Hill, Well, I will admit to you it's it's just
• 28:22
Speaker 8: you and me talking quietly amongst ourselves. Yeah, yeah, I forgot.
• 28:26
Speaker 8: I forgot the status of that bill. I covered it,
• 28:28
Speaker 8: and I thought did that pass? I forgot the past.
• 28:32
Speaker 8: A lot happened in the session. It lasts a long time.
• 28:34
Speaker 8: It did though it passed in March, weeks before the
• 28:38
Speaker 8: session actually came to an end. You know. So ranked
• 28:41
Speaker 8: choice voting means that as the voter, you go in
• 28:46
Speaker 8: and you picked your first choice, your second choice, your
• 28:48
Speaker 8: third choice, and if nobody gets an out and out majority,
• 28:53
Speaker 8: then those those votes essentially are consolidated and the third choice,
• 28:59
Speaker 8: the third third highest vote getter gets peeled away and
• 29:04
Speaker 8: then the first and second or added up. The reasons
• 29:08
Speaker 8: that were stated by lawmakers who wanted to do this,
• 29:11
Speaker 8: it's not something happening in What's Virginia, but they say
• 29:13
Speaker 8: that it confuses voters. They think that, you know, the
• 29:18
Speaker 8: the leading vote getter should plainly get should be called
• 29:22
Speaker 8: the winner, whether whether it's a plurality or a majority.
• 29:25
Speaker 8: So those are the reasons. I was a little surprised
• 29:28
Speaker 8: to see mans coming out on this after vote after
• 29:31
Speaker 8: the dog left the doghouse, but you know, he has
• 29:36
Speaker 8: been passionate about ranked choice voting as part of his
• 29:40
Speaker 8: campaign to empower voters in the middle. He's inspired by
• 29:44
Speaker 8: his former Senate colleague Lisa Murkowski, who is a US
• 29:49
Speaker 8: center by virtue of ranked choice voting in Alaska. One
• 29:53
Speaker 8: won her election that way, so it felt a little,
• 29:57
Speaker 8: too little, too late to affect West Virginia politics, but
• 30:00
Speaker 8: it is interesting commentary by former Senator Mansion.
• 30:04
Speaker 4: All Right, Rab, we're gonna let you go.
• 30:05
Speaker 6: I know you got to kind of keep a close
• 30:07
Speaker 6: eye on things going on with the in a Charleston
• 30:09
Speaker 6: court room today. I appreciate it. We'll be listening and
• 30:12
Speaker 6: following along on the website and social media. Thanks a lot, man, Hey,
• 30:16
Speaker 6: thanks twenty three minutes away from ten to Dave Alan

• 30:29
Speaker 6: me like in West Virginia, we we seem to be
• 30:32
Speaker 6: pretty good at I don't want to say outlawing. That's
• 30:36
Speaker 6: not the putting a stop to things that aren't happening.
• 30:39
Speaker 6: Yet that seems to be a focus of a lot
• 30:42
Speaker 6: of our elected leaders is we want to pass things
• 30:47
Speaker 6: that aren't happening just to make sure they don't.
• 30:52
  Speaker 4: I don't know, I just I whatever, I just we
• 30:56
Speaker 4: seem to do that a lot.
• 30:58
Speaker 6: Uh Texas, Dave, where's the push back on Trump and
• 31:01
Speaker 6: the Trump regime eliminating our jobs here in the state.
• 31:03
Speaker 6: Where is our coward governor and federal representatives that represent
• 31:07
Speaker 6: our states? Tech says solved the rank choice threat before
• 31:13
Speaker 6: it became a problem preventative action. Glad we are protected
• 31:17

• 31:20
Speaker 6: has an issue with it, and that's that's okay. Twenty
• 31:23

• 37:10
Speaker 6: one i mean KNOCK out a couple of text or
• 37:13
Speaker 6: text line is a buzz. In today Text says i'm,
• 37:16
Speaker 6: AN independent i Disagree with republicans on a LOT and
• 37:19
Speaker 6: I think magas have a. Mental disorder with, That said
• 37:22
Speaker 6: i'm not Upset about republicans closing. Their primary it's a,
• 37:26
Speaker 6: chicken move but it's, their primary and.
• 37:29
Speaker 4: There's a lot of people that feel that. Same way.
• 37:31
Speaker 6: YOU know i mean bottom line is the party can
• 37:34
Speaker 6: choose what they want. To do, you know this is
• 37:36
  Speaker 6: not a, state issue that's Not a Secretary of state's
• 37:38
  Speaker 6: office or anything.
• 37:39
Speaker 4: Like that this is.
• 37:39
Speaker 6: The parties the parties can make their, own rules and
• 37:42
Speaker 6: they wanted to. Do that they wanted to close. The
• 37:44
Speaker 6: primary now is that going to be a smart move on?
• 37:46
Speaker 6: THEIR PART i i have a tendency to, think no
• 37:50
Speaker 6: because statistics have proven that independence more often than not
• 37:54
Speaker 6: ten to Vote for republican and, conservative candidates not. EVERY
• 37:58
  Speaker 6: time i don't think it's a very smart move on.
• 38:01
Speaker 6: Their part, but hey, You know i'm Not a, republican
• 38:03
Speaker 6: anymore so they can do what.
• 38:05
Speaker 4: They want so that's where. They are, TECH says.
• 38:12
Speaker 6: I think preventative laws are not a, bad thing especially
• 38:15
Speaker 6: if the issue is happening elsewhere and is. Foreseeable here
• 38:19
Speaker 6: different take, On that.
• 38:21
  Speaker 4: Tech.
• 38:21
Speaker 6: SAYS dave i am an independent voter that's helped To.
• 38:24
Speaker 6: Elect republicans since they don't need, MY vote i will
• 38:27
Speaker 6: make sure not To. Vote republicans that.
• 38:30
Speaker 4: Is a two, way street.
• 38:33
Speaker 6: You know, and AGAIN as, i said the statistics have
• 38:37
Speaker 6: proven nation why that independents do tend To, vote republican
• 38:41
Speaker 6: or at least vote for conservative candidates more than They do.
• 38:43
Speaker 6: Democratic candidates but, you know there's. A method they, studied
• 38:47
Speaker 6: it they made, the decision.
• 38:49
  Speaker 4: So we'll see.
• 38:50
Speaker 6: What happens wouldn't be surprised if it changes though at,
• 38:53
Speaker 6: some point wouldn't. Be surprised no inside info. Or anything
• 38:56
Speaker 6: i'm JUST saying i wouldn't be surprised if, it changes
• 38:58
Speaker 6: because it wasn't totally popular Within The. Republican party if
• 39:01
Speaker 6: you remember when they made, that decision there Were several
• 39:04
Speaker 6: republicans that fought it, and, said no we don't want
• 39:06
Speaker 6: to turn our back on these independence but in the
• 39:09
Speaker 6: end they ended up losing. That Battle midave allen Showing Five,
