- 0:10If you have your Bibles this morning, please meet me in the
- 0:13second letter to Timothy in chapter 3.
- 0:29Beginning in verse 1. Second Timothy chapter 3
- 0:35beginning in verse 1. We read here.
- 0:44But understand this, that in the last days, there will come times
- 0:49of difficulty for people. Will be lovers of self.
- 0:53Lovers of money proud, arrogant, abusive disobedient to their
- 1:00parents ungrateful, Unholy heartless, unappeasable
- 1:05slanderous without self-control brutal.
- 1:10Not loving good. Treacherous.
- 1:13Reckless Swollen with conceit lovers of pleasure rather than
- 1:18lovers of God having the appearance of godliness.
- 1:23But denying its power avoid such people, let's pray, Lord, we
- 1:30thank you for this afternoon again.
- 1:32And now Lord, as we open your word, your word, which stands
- 1:36forever your word, though, the grass May wither.
- 1:41And though, the flower May Fail, your word will endure.
- 1:44Forever. And we come to receive what you
- 1:47have to say. And we ask for the spirit of
- 1:49wisdom and Revelation to assist the ministry of the word.
- 1:53This afternoon, Lord, we ask that our hearts would be open
- 1:56that our minds like the disciples would have the
- 1:59understanding to comprehend the mind of Christ.
- 2:02And so, Lord, in this moment, we pray, Let Your Presence be known
- 2:06that your word be received and let it melt into our character
- 2:09for your glory. In Jesus name, we pray.
- 2:12Amen. I trust this afternoon that you
- 2:17are fully convinced about the character of God, and every way
- 2:22that the scripture describes him and especially in his deep
- 2:25compassion, The Compassion of God, who Longs for those who
- 2:30have been separated from him because of sin to be reconciled
- 2:34back to him, And so great, is this compassion that stirs in
- 2:40the heart of God that it is not limited to those who are merely
- 2:43in sin, it is even extended to those who deliberately teach
- 2:48falsehood. That may sound shocking to us
- 2:52who believe that those who are deceivers, are not worthy of
- 2:55Grace, but last week's message was a testament to that truth.
- 3:00That God, in fact Longs for those who are even in falsehood
- 3:05and are propagating deception to come to the knowledge of Truth
- 3:09and be liberated from the grip of Satan.
- 3:11And this passion is so great in the heart of God, that he even
- 3:16instructs us as the redeemed of how to be conned.
- 3:19It's so that we can offer that opportunity to those who are in
- 3:24that deception to come to Salvation in Jesus Christ.
- 3:28And that's what he taught Timothy about how to be a soul
- 3:32winner, and the versus last week, we're also means to
- 3:37encourage the faithful Soul winner to stir your heart with
- 3:41with trust that it's possible for even the most unlikely and
- 3:45undeserving to actually be saved to actually come to Christ and
- 3:50be transformed. Even those who are doing damage
- 3:53to the kingdom of God, who are trying to relinquish the
- 3:57Christian message even there. Like Paul can come to saving
- 4:00faith. And now we read after Paul aims
- 4:05to awaken this righteous optimism in Timothy, he also
- 4:10wants to bring a balance and he wants to bring another word.
- 4:14Another word that would prepare him as a soul winner, as a
- 4:18pastor of a church of the difficult times that lie ahead
- 4:22for the world. and for Christians, And the subject was
- 4:28so important for Paul the subject of the end times was so
- 4:33crucial for this apostle that he designates a portion of his
- 4:37final letter to expound on it. Why is it that Timothy needs to
- 4:43know what he just said? Why is it that the believer must
- 4:46know what times will be headed towards?
- 4:50What kind of implications is that carry for us even now?
- 4:55Well, there are many, but for the sake of the context, let us
- 4:58consider a few number. 1, Timothy would have to understand
- 5:02that, although, he would have a hope for people to come to
- 5:06Christ this endeavor to preach. The gospel will not be void of
- 5:10great opposition. Will not be void of difficult
- 5:15times. Secondly, Timothy would also
- 5:18need to regain a fresh passion for defending the truth, because
- 5:24he would Now find out and learn the demoralizing effects of
- 5:27false teaching and vein ideologies.
- 5:29And so as a pastor by hearing what, we just read this morning,
- 5:33he would find this strength and this motivation to be even more
- 5:37serious about truth preaching. It proving it defending it.
- 5:43And lastly, those three last words of our designated taxed,
- 5:48Paul says, you need to avoid such people in other words,
- 5:54after he describes, the people that the attitudes, the
- 5:57characters that will characterize the final days
- 6:01before the return of Christ. Timothy and Believers today,
- 6:05would need to make an extra effort to make sure that they
- 6:08are not contaminated by this crowd.
- 6:11And so he says understand this, you need to understand this and
- 6:17here's the question. What was it that led Paul to
- 6:21transition in this thought, how did he go from what we've been
- 6:25covering the past few weeks, to now offer a sudden introducing a
- 6:28subject concerning the latter times?
- 6:31What's not? Because he just merely bringing
- 6:33up something fresh in his letter, it's because there is a
- 6:36connection to what Paul has been teaching and to what he is
- 6:40warning about here, remember you?
- 6:42And I over the past few weeks I've been hearing about things
- 6:45such as the dangers of false teaching the necessity to
- 6:50rightly handle the word of Truth.
- 6:52The corruption that can come from irreverent Babble.
- 6:56And even last week, the Rope of hope that we should extend to
- 6:59those who are in the pit of And the overarching theme is the
- 7:03necessity to be in truth. The necessity to avoid falsehood
- 7:07and all for sudden. Now he comes in, he speaks about
- 7:10the end times, he speaks about not just the end times but he
- 7:13speaks about the people that will pollute the generations
- 7:17before the return of Christ. And the reason why this is a
- 7:21connection is because the times of difficulties will stem from
- 7:26what he has been saying over the past few weeks accelerating.
- 7:31Abandonment and rejection of the truth.
- 7:34The reason why X will be Wicked and pervert and difficult is
- 7:40because there will be a rejection of the gospel and an
- 7:45alarming rate and the scriptures testify this elsewhere.
- 7:49If you turn to First Timothy 4:1, your read that Paul appeals
- 7:54to the spirit and he says that the spirit testifies of the
- 7:59later times and it says here in verse One of chapter 4.
- 8:02Now the spirit expressly says that in later times some will
- 8:06depart from the Faith by devoting themselves to deceitful
- 8:10spirits and teachings of demons. So he's saying, even hear what
- 8:16the scripture says from cover to cover that there is a strong
- 8:19relationship. There is a marriage between
- 8:22false teaching and ungodliness Jesus himself in his own
- 8:27discourse about the end time says that there will be many
- 8:32false prophets will arise and Lead.
- 8:34Many astray only to follow that statement by saying and because
- 8:39lawlessness will increase False prophets will arise.
- 8:46And because false prophets will arise.
- 8:47So, we'll lawlessness. And this helps us understand
- 8:51this list of Unholy characteristics in our text this
- 8:55morning that will Define the last days.
- 8:59It is because it will stem from a growing desertion from True
- 9:03Doctrine and a growing appetite. For vein ideologies, that will
- 9:09be found within and outside of the church.
- 9:13If the pure truth sanctifies man then it is a distortion of
- 9:18truth, that warps him. That is what we are going to
- 9:21see. But I can imagine after reading
- 9:23this that there might be some skepticism.
- 9:26There might be some honest doubt because we look at this and we
- 9:30read understand this that in the last days there will come times
- 9:34of difficulty. But you're fully aware that the
- 9:36Earth is not unfamiliar with grief and toil.
- 9:40So, what's so prophetic about this?
- 9:43What's so profound about? The thought that in the last
- 9:46days, there will come times of difficulty.
- 9:48We've seen times with our history, books testified that
- 9:50ever since the Rebellion at the Garden, we have seen craziness
- 9:55and Rebellion. It's later on in this chapter
- 9:59that we see the uniqueness of this Revelation.
- 10:01So you're there in Chapter 3 of second Timothy, scroll down to
- 10:04verse 13 and then we will understand what Paul is saying
- 10:08verse 13 says, while evil people, and Impostors Will Go On
- 10:12from bad to worse. Deceiving and being deceived
- 10:20there. It is from bad to worse.
- 10:25Meaning, as we approach the culmination of the age, there
- 10:29will be an escalation and amplification of ungodliness.
- 10:34It's not that Paul is saying these things have never been, so
- 10:38he's not saying that the world hasn't seen these things that he
- 10:40just described what he's saying is is that it will intensify.
- 10:46It will come to a point where it will drown a generation and what
- 10:50is good will be evil and what is evil be known as good.
- 10:52In fact, I was reading Romans this week and I saw an
- 10:55interesting phrase of Paul separate list of ungodly
- 10:59characteristics and he says something about the people who
- 11:03have abandoned God and what society looks like, because of
- 11:08that abandonment and he says people will be and he lists
- 11:11different things and there is something that stood out to me
- 11:13and it was this, they will be Enters of evil.
- 11:19They will be creative and finding new ways. of
- 11:23entertaining their sin, there will be greater thoughts about
- 11:28Unholy unspeakable, unfathomable filth, That will dominate our
- 11:33world and so keep this in mind as you read these list.
- 11:37Paul is speaking about a strengthening and a spreading of
- 11:40a level of degradation that we've never seen before.
- 11:46And so, then people will not just be lovers of money.
- 11:49They're going to be more in love with money than ever before.
- 11:52People will not just be arrogant, they're going to be
- 11:55more arrogant than ever before. People will not just be
- 11:57disobedient to their parents. They will be more disobedient
- 12:00than you can even imagine. The way we're going to handle
- 12:05this subject today is to lightly touch on each of these signs and
- 12:10perhaps we won't even get past the first one.
- 12:12Just Like A Flat Rock. Skipping over a flatbed of
- 12:14water, we're just going to kiss each of these things if time
- 12:18permits and see how these things that will dominate our world are
- 12:24in direct opposition to the world that God Longs for and the
- 12:28world that Christ will bring in an usher.
- 12:31And when he establishes his kingdom at his second
- 12:33retirement, Turn and here's the application.
- 12:36If you need one in light of this text, that if it is told to us
- 12:40that there will be an increase among the unregenerate in their
- 12:44darkness and under despicable practices, then by the grace of
- 12:48God, may we match that Darkness with a greater light. it may be
- 12:52by the power of the Holy Spirit overwhelm, whatever part that
- 12:56God has given us in our neighborhoods, in our workplaces
- 12:58and our families to outshine the darkness And so we read here,
- 13:05understand this that in the last days there will come times of
- 13:08difficulty and inverse to the first thing that Paul lists is
- 13:12that they will be lovers of self.
- 13:16Lovers of self. This is by Divine Design for
- 13:21Paul by the spirit to include this.
- 13:23As the first thing on the list implies something very, very
- 13:26crucial. Concerning what it means to be a
- 13:28lover of self. He places this first because
- 13:32South love is the swamp that every other feature of sin swims
- 13:39in it is the foundation that many iniquities are built on.
- 13:44In fact, Christ himself knew this And because she knew this,
- 13:49he attacked this human disposition as the basic
- 13:53condition for discipleship when he said, deny yourself deny
- 13:59yourself. Because he knew that everything
- 14:04flows from the sewage of loving self.
- 14:10Self-love is not equal to self-respect is self-love is not
- 14:14equal to self-care self-love is about the elevation of one's
- 14:18own, desires, and wants as a supreme motivation in one's
- 14:22life. Self-love is the frame of mind.
- 14:25That places me at the center me is the main concern in my
- 14:29decisions and in my desires, even to the point of dismissing,
- 14:34the rights of my fellow, man and diminishing the rightful place
- 14:38of God as a Supreme object of my affection and devotion.
- 14:44If self-denial is the basis. For righteousness, and Holiness
- 14:49to flourish in a way that would bless others.
- 14:52Then surely self-love breeds a series of corrupting sins.
- 14:57That brings so much pain in so many ways.
- 15:00I want you to see an example of that from the Old Testament,
- 15:03meet me in the book of second. Samuel chapter, 16, scuse me,
- 15:0823:16 second Samuel, 23:16. Here is a interesting snippet in
- 15:16David's life, David is here in a cave.
- 15:21He's hiding and he has a band of Mighty Men by his side.
- 15:25And in this chapter, we get a description of not just those 30
- 15:28Mighty Men, but even among the 30, there was three special
- 15:32Elite officers and the Holy Spirit makes a distinction about
- 15:37why these three men were the three Mighty Men, among the 330,
- 15:41Mighty Men and David at one point.
- 15:45He expresses a desire. He begins to feel homesick.
- 15:51He gets nostalgic. He says, oh that I would have a
- 15:54drink from the well that is at Bethlehem.
- 15:58He didn't make it a command, he didn't ask the Mighty Men to go.
- 16:03Bethlehem was under siege Bethlehem, there was a Garrison
- 16:05of the Philistines. There are troops of the enemy
- 16:07that were there, but David offers sudden, just peeped out
- 16:10this longing to have a cold glass of water.
- 16:14Perhaps remembering when he was a Shepherd boy, he would scoop
- 16:18he would scoop from that. Well when he was thirsty, as he
- 16:20served his father's Farm, The three hear it.
- 16:25They don't even ask. They go undercover.
- 16:28They go in stealth mode and they begin to.
- 16:30Now, travel to Bethlehem and who knows how they did it, but they
- 16:33grabbed water in a jar and they come back to David.
- 16:37And there's David probably sitting there reminiscing about
- 16:39all the memories of those innocent days.
- 16:41As a Shepherd boy and the three Mighty Men approached him and
- 16:44they say, here's your water. And he shocked.
- 16:50And he's there in verse 16, then the three Mighty Men broke
- 16:53through the camp of the Philistines and Drew water out
- 16:55of the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate and carried it
- 16:58and brought it to David, but he would not drink of it.
- 17:03Perhaps they're ready to put it at his mouth, he stops himself,
- 17:06but he would not drink of it. He poured it out to the Lord.
- 17:09And said, in verse 17, far be it from me.
- 17:12Oh, Lord. That I should do this.
- 17:15Shall I drink the blood of the men who went at risk of their
- 17:19lives. Therefore, he would not drink
- 17:22it. These things, the three Mighty
- 17:24Men did. It's an example of David who's a
- 17:27picture of Christ and what makes a Mighty, Man, a mighty man of
- 17:30God, is that he's willing to do the little things.
- 17:32Christ, he's willing to serve not just like the 30 mighty man
- 17:36might have done defeating great armies and Giants know even when
- 17:40the King asks for a glass of water you're willing to risk
- 17:43your life to give him a glass of water.
- 17:46But notice what David does here, what a picture of selflessness,
- 17:50what a picture of consideration, what a picture of self-denial.
- 17:56This man here could have simply drank the water.
- 17:58Gulped it down and extended his gratitude to these others who
- 18:01have risked their lives for him to be satisfied in this way.
- 18:05But right here, we read that after he had realized how they
- 18:08have jeopardized their lives for the sake of him, fulfilling the
- 18:12small desire, he would not dare quench his nostalgia.
- 18:15Jake Hart at their expense. David at this moment was more
- 18:21concerned about their well-being than about his wish being
- 18:25satisfied and he refused to drink it.
- 18:30That's a picture of what self-denial looks like.
- 18:33It does not put others at risk of harm of danger of pain to
- 18:38gratify yourself self-denial. Looks like when you have desires
- 18:43and plans and even when you were experiencing, these wishes, you
- 18:48are able to manage all things because you are mindful of all
- 18:52people. You're not thinking about me,
- 18:55you're thinking about those are who are affected by your
- 18:57decisions, those who might be robbed of their rights.
- 19:02Do you want to satisfy your own? And somebody made a brilliant
- 19:06observation in light of this text.
- 19:09And here it is. If only David had applied the
- 19:13same principle that we just read here when he was consumed with
- 19:16longing for Bathsheba. if only he had applied the same
- 19:24conviction years before when he was on that rooftop, And his
- 19:29heart began to thirst for a woman that did not belong to
- 19:32him. and it was in that time, if this is a picture of
- 19:36self-denial, David on that rooftop is a picture of
- 19:40self-love, because in that moment, he did not think about
- 19:43Uriah He did not say to himself, Uriah will be hurt by this.
- 19:50My reputation as a king, as a righteous man, as a psalmist,
- 19:53will be affected by this. All he wanted in that moment was
- 19:57to quench that list. And so great.
- 20:01Was that self-love that he was willing to even step on Uriah To
- 20:06cover his sin because that's what self-love looks like.
- 20:10I have to kill this man, because my reputation is more important
- 20:15than his life. all David, if only you had applied that same
- 20:22principle with that glass of water, when you were faced with
- 20:26that, lust that try to consume you.
- 20:30That is just one illustration of what it's going to look like.
- 20:33In the last days when Paul says that they will be lovers of
- 20:36self. That is just the foundation and
- 20:38you can imagine what will Spring forth.
- 20:40Let me say it this way. You're going to see much more
- 20:42adultery than we've ever seen. You're going to see much more
- 20:46murder lying cheating corruption hypocrisy.
- 20:53Because self-love is the mother that births and nurtures.
- 20:56All these other vices and there is no doubt that the prediction
- 21:02of people being lovers of self is not far-fetched from our
- 21:05experience today in society, Self-love is on the rise.
- 21:11It's on the rise and it's everywhere.
- 21:13You look everything from the seemingly.
- 21:16Innocent selfie culture that has given every human being an
- 21:22invitation to have a platform for everybody to praise you and
- 21:25adore you To the humanistic ideologies that are being taught
- 21:30in our schools that life revolves around you that there
- 21:33isn't a creator that you're held accountable to but your cousin
- 21:36is a monkey and you're just the outcome of some explosion and
- 21:42some happenstance and so survival of the fittest go out
- 21:48there and do what you desire and live according to your impulses.
- 21:52Unfortunately, this idea of self love is not only practice and
- 21:56praise. It is considered as a virtue.
- 22:00It's about you. It's about you.
- 22:05In fact, even in modern psychology and counseling, when
- 22:08people come to receive some kind of clarity about their
- 22:11behavioral patterns and their habits, most psychologists will
- 22:15blame everything around you and not you.
- 22:20It's about the way you grew up. It's about the trauma.
- 22:23And though, that might play a part in it.
- 22:25It's amazing. How we don't even want to, pin
- 22:28any responsibility on the individual anymore.
- 22:30Why? Because we want to make sure
- 22:32that people have self esteem. And self-worth.
- 22:40And self-love. This is in direct opposition to
- 22:43the message of the cross. Die to yourself, crucify.
- 22:50Your flesh. Take responsibility for your
- 22:53actions. Because if you blame everybody
- 22:56else for your sins, God can't forgive you.
- 22:59He'll forgive them if they repent.
- 23:01But he'll forgive you, once you acknowledge that, you played a
- 23:04part in whatever sin you think is caused by something or
- 23:07someone else. Here's the problem.
- 23:11This perverted view of self-love is having its way and christened
- 23:15them. I challenge you to just make a
- 23:17simple search of the most popular sermons today and read
- 23:21the titles alone and you will get an idea of what I am
- 23:25speaking about. It's a majority about winning
- 23:31the most views and attendances because they are all self-help.
- 23:37Concepts that provide motivation for the moment, but no
- 23:39transforming power from Christ. If the CERN correctly, if you
- 23:44really listen carefully, these talks are nothing more than
- 23:48skewed insights about how God is on your side to fulfill your
- 23:53dreams and your desires doesn't matter if they have to do with
- 23:57his kingdom. As long as it's yours, he will
- 24:00help you while totally neglecting the Declarations of
- 24:06the glories of Christ that compel us to submit to his
- 24:09lordship and live according to his His rule.
- 24:14Christ is a mentioned. If he's mentioned it's a
- 24:17footnote. And if he's mentioned there,
- 24:20it's for him to help you make more money, be more beautiful,
- 24:24be more successful. And just because people here
- 24:28versus or because there's a cross in the background, that's
- 24:30enough for them to eat it all up, not knowing that they are
- 24:33actually strengthening the self. Love that Christ wants to kill.
- 24:40In fact, you read this list here and it's amazing that Paul
- 24:45brings another listen, Romans 1, and I want you to turn there
- 24:48because I want you to see this afternoon.
- 24:51How morally shattering it is when Society whether it is
- 24:55secular or whether it is religious, how shattering it is
- 25:00when we place man in the place of God, When we make man, the
- 25:05center and said of God being the center and in Romans 1 29 to 31,
- 25:10we read in another list. That's very similar to what we
- 25:14have this morning in second. Timothy 3, Romans 129, they were
- 25:18filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil
- 25:22covetousness, malice, they are full of Envy murder Strife,
- 25:27deceit, maliciousness they are gossips slanderers haters of
- 25:33God. Insolent haughty, boastful,
- 25:36inventors of evil disobedient to parents, foolish faithless,
- 25:43heartless ruthless. It's very similar to what we
- 25:48read this morning and inverted verse 32.
- 25:50He adds although they knew God's righteous decrees.
- 25:55That those who do such things deserve to die.
- 25:58They not only practice some, but give approval to those who do
- 26:01him. It's another disturbing
- 26:06commentary about the corruption of mankind, but there's a flow
- 26:10of thought that led Paul to this text.
- 26:12There's a flow of thought that led him to list these things.
- 26:15And the idea is well, how is it that that man has steep to such
- 26:20Shameless sin? How is that man can come solo to
- 26:24accepting and praising things? That just 50 years ago, would be
- 26:27labeled as insanity. Do you know where it begins?
- 26:33Do you know where it all started?
- 26:35According to Romans 14, the to be unnatural relations between,
- 26:38man, and man, woman and woman for there to be debased Minds
- 26:41for there to be all these ugly things that we just read to be
- 26:44common and known and praised. Go back to verse 21 of the same
- 26:49chapter in Romans 1. This is where it all starts.
- 26:54This is where all starts for the individual.
- 26:55This is where all starts for a city is where all starts for a
- 26:58nation. This is where all starts for,
- 27:02although they knew God, They did not honor him as God.
- 27:08Or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking
- 27:12and their foolish Hearts were darkened.
- 27:15You understand what Paul is saying here, the two means the
- 27:19very two stumbling blocks that were the cause to all the things
- 27:24that you just heard plaguing. The general population is number
- 27:31one that there was a refusal to honor God as god notice.
- 27:35It says though they knew God. Though they knew God, there was
- 27:40an absence of belief in God. In fact, the verses before says
- 27:44that the glory of God, the Eternal power of God is made
- 27:48known through his creation. So God is there people.
- 27:53It's very difficult for you to deny that there is a God based
- 27:56on creational. Nevermind, special Revelation
- 27:58from his word creation itself, testifies of the glories of God.
- 28:02And though they knew God, though, their minds their
- 28:05conscious, their Inner, Man, They realize that there is a
- 28:08moral compass in my heart that there is intelligent design,
- 28:14though they knew God. It's not that the lack of the
- 28:17knowledge of God, cause these things, they knew him but they
- 28:20refused to honor him as God. They refused to play some where
- 28:26he belongs, where he is glorified, a magnified, and
- 28:30extolled, and adored and praised and given credit.
- 28:34For all these things that we enjoy and see on a daily basis.
- 28:38They refused to honor him as God.
- 28:41So, guess what? This morning?
- 28:44If you know that, there's a God, you can still be a vile sinner.
- 28:51You can have a knowledge that there is a God and you can even
- 28:53have verses that you would agree with my Bible tells me although
- 28:57they knew God. It's not the knowledge of God
- 29:01necessary that's where it begins.
- 29:02Its what you do with that knowledge.
- 29:06So eat up all the sermons you want, you can still live in
- 29:09adultery, you can still be an unrepentant homosexual, you can
- 29:14still be a thief, you can still be given over to murderous anger
- 29:17though. You know, that there is a God,
- 29:20the differentiating factor is that they did not honor him as
- 29:23God and not just honor him as God.
- 29:25Secondly, they reserve the recognition of him being the
- 29:29provider of all good. Things they did not give, thanks
- 29:31to God. Would it stir you for me to tell
- 29:37you that all those things that you read that we often go to
- 29:42when we tried to describe God's passive wrath with all the
- 29:46debauchery and the filth and the sexual looseness.
- 29:50Would you believe this morning that it all stems from a lack of
- 29:53Thanksgiving? Of course, it does because
- 29:59there's a refusal acknowledging him and just because there is a
- 30:04people who refuse to worship God and place him at his rightful
- 30:07place does not mean that they're not worshipping something else
- 30:11because they are you read in the same chapter that we read that
- 30:14they exchanged, the glory of God for the glory of creation and
- 30:20they worshiped images of beasts. And man just because you're not
- 30:24worshipping. God doesn't mean you're not a
- 30:25worshiper. My friend.
- 30:27You might be worshipping yourself this morning.
- 30:34When the heart does not have God, as the center of its
- 30:36worship, when the heart does not have God as the object of its
- 30:40deepest, gratitude, then that heart as we just read in verse
- 30:4421 will be darkened by futility and foolishness.
- 30:50That's the law. People are not out there because
- 30:54they have reached some intellectual Peak and they think
- 30:57that believing in God is just barbaric and ancient.
- 31:01No. It's because they did not honor
- 31:03God as God. They refused to honor him and
- 31:05they refused to give thanks them.
- 31:07And that's why they are swimming in their own sin and are
- 31:10drowning in it. I've talked to many atheist.
- 31:15I've lost count, and I've said this before, maybe somebody
- 31:18needs to hear this morning and I can tell you this, that 99% of
- 31:21the time, after all the debates about dinosaurs and the Bible
- 31:24written by man. Where did it all start from?
- 31:26Why is that all these things? I just said look, why don't we
- 31:29just save ourselves two hours. And let's get just straight to
- 31:32the heart of the matter. What do you need to see to
- 31:34believe? Come on.
- 31:36What do you need to see to believe?
- 31:38You know what I found in my years of speaking with atheist,
- 31:43I found that as much as they think that they are smart and
- 31:47Superior intellectually. When I asked him that question,
- 31:50they seemed to stumble over the words.
- 31:52Well, I don't need to see anything and they scratch their
- 31:56heads and sometimes they're paralyzed with their thoughts,
- 31:59and I look at them, and I said, let me finish your sentence for
- 32:02you. You don't want there to be a
- 32:04god. Because, you know, the moment
- 32:06that you acknowledge that there is a God that you will be held
- 32:09morally accountable. So believe all the foolishness
- 32:13that you want and try to convince yourself and others.
- 32:16It's because you've reached and you believe in science and you
- 32:19reach some kind of understanding that we don't have you love your
- 32:23sin. Only a few times I've met
- 32:26somebody says, well I just need to see this and I knew they were
- 32:29genuine. They refused to honor him as
- 32:33God. They refused to give, thanks to
- 32:35him. And then from that funnel, all
- 32:37of those things that we just read our reality in an outcome
- 32:40of that heart posture. And we know this to be true for
- 32:43an unbelieving world. But let me shocked you even more
- 32:46today that is not just reserved for an unbelieving population
- 32:51that when a church a Ministry fails to keep honoring Christ.
- 32:55And Placing him at the center and when that church does not
- 32:59continue to recognize him as the main mission and purpose.
- 33:04It will invite unholiness in the midst of no time.
- 33:08Keep Christ in the center and you will draw in a holy people
- 33:14move Christ from the center. And that list that I just read,
- 33:19never mind the world, it will be here.
- 33:24In the last days, there will be times of difficulty because
- 33:27people will be lovers of self. That's going to be the
- 33:29atmosphere and we're already seeing it.
- 33:31We're already feeling it. But have you ever wondered this
- 33:35morning Have you ever wondered today?
- 33:38What is it going to be? Like when Christ comes to rule
- 33:42and Reign? What will be the atmosphere?
- 33:45What will be in the air? What will we see in every
- 33:48direction? Oh and the Bible invites, you to
- 33:50study the word of God because it's sprinkled and different
- 33:53portions of our text and you see in one place where it says that
- 33:57Jerusalem, where Christ will come physically to rule and
- 34:00Reign Jerusalem will be a joy and the people will be a
- 34:04gladness and then we read them. Famous text in Isaiah that he
- 34:09will come with his government and to that government, there
- 34:11will be no end and no end of Peace either.
- 34:15And another place we read that during that rain when Jesus
- 34:19comes and he plants those pierced feet on the Mount of
- 34:22Olives and he comes to have the pierced hand with a rule of an
- 34:28iron scepter. There will be what no sound of
- 34:33weeping or cry of distress and that, that should cause us to
- 34:37say, Maranatha, come Lord, Jesus, and have your way.
- 34:42And I'm telling you this that as we approach the end of times as
- 34:45we see these things amplify and magnify, so will that cry in our
- 34:49souls, be more desperate than ever?
- 34:54Has that been your crying? The past year and a half?
- 34:57As I've been your crying the past two years with all the
- 34:59craziness, one little invisible virus, cause the world to shut
- 35:03down and we think we're sovereign.
- 35:07Maranatha. Come what will make it so
- 35:10contrasting to this that in the last days there will be times of
- 35:15difficulty. Why?
- 35:16Why the difference? And I'm sure, you know, the
- 35:17answer because Jesus Christ himself will come and Usher in
- 35:21his government. Free from corruption, free from
- 35:23pollution free from hypocrisy and we say, Amen to that, but
- 35:29There will also be something else that will contribute to it.
- 35:33There will be a collective effort by those who will be
- 35:37living during that time when Jesus Will Rule and Reign for a
- 35:40thousand years that will cause them to do something will cause
- 35:47them as they're compelled by his wisdom and his unfiltered power,
- 35:52and his might and his Justice. To make him be absolute focus of
- 35:57absolutely everything. And I want you to see that to be
- 36:01true, as a prophecy is given by the prophet Zechariah, and the
- 36:04last chapter, you have to see this for yourself.
- 36:08Zechariah 14, verse 20. After describing the second
- 36:11coming of Jesus Christ in such a way that you would think that.
- 36:14It's it's in the Book of Revelation, the harmony of
- 36:17scripture is Supernatural. We come to an interesting couple
- 36:22of verses that will give us a snapshot of what life will look
- 36:28like. When the last days come to an
- 36:32end and Jesus comes to put it to an end by ruling and reigning
- 36:36for a thousand years before the Eternal age comes.
- 36:42And look at the description, you thought you were just going to
- 36:44float in a cloud for all eternity, right?
- 36:47And it's going to be foggy and you're gonna hear some music?
- 36:49No, no, no. Zechariah 14, verse 20, we read.
- 36:54Now, remember, this is not speaking about heaven.
- 36:56Let me just pause here. This is not speaking about
- 36:58heaven, okay, we're right now in the church age, we are still as
- 37:03a church winning and bringing in a harvest by the power of the
- 37:06spirit through the gospel, then the tribulation period is going
- 37:09to kick off for seven years. And at the end of Seven years
- 37:12Christ, will return. And that's not When Heaven
- 37:15comes. That's when he rules and Reigns
- 37:17physically on the earth to fulfill his promises to David
- 37:20and Israel. Not because she favors a man or
- 37:23a nation from all other nations because he's a promise, keeping
- 37:26God and he made certain promises and they have yet to come to
- 37:30pass and because he wants to declare his faithfulness to a
- 37:33generation, he will make them come to pass.
- 37:36If that offends, you deal with it with him when he comes
- 37:41Zechariah 14, 20 we read. What the world will look like
- 37:45when Jesus Christ establishes his government on the earth and
- 37:48on that day there shall be inscribed on the bells of the
- 37:51horses. Holy to the Lord, pause there.
- 37:56Scripture uses horses as a clear illustration and image of War.
- 38:01You use horses to go to war when a king would ride into a place
- 38:05on a horse. And wore when he came on a
- 38:07donkey meant peace, but here on the millennial Reign, the horses
- 38:12will but will not be used for war.
- 38:14They will actually be instruments of worship.
- 38:17So these vehicles that were used to be lined up, to have Nation
- 38:20against Nation, will actually have bells on them.
- 38:23So every time you hear the horses galloping, and you're
- 38:25going to look out, and you see that on those bells, those those
- 38:28horses are actually part of the worship team.
- 38:31And they themselves are singing unto God with those bells as
- 38:34they Gallop along and the atmosphere of the glory of
- 38:37Christ on Earth. And the pots in the house of the
- 38:41Lord shall be as the Bulls before the altar.
- 38:43Now, look at this in verse 21 and every pot in Jerusalem and
- 38:48Judah shall be holy to the Lord of hosts.
- 38:52So that all who sacrifice may come and take of them and boil,
- 38:55the meat of the sacrifice in them.
- 38:57And there shall no longer be a traitor or Canaanite in the
- 38:59house of the Lord of hosts on that day.
- 39:03There's a phrase that when I read this, it's so ministered to
- 39:06my heart because in verse 20, we read that as we read in the Old
- 39:10Testament, there are vessels and instruments used for the worship
- 39:14in the house of God, but when Christ comes to rule and Reign,
- 39:19he's not only going to sanctify specific vessels, in the house
- 39:22of worship. We read in verse 21 and every
- 39:25pot. In Jerusalem and Judah shall be
- 39:30holy to the Lord of hosts. What does that mean that when
- 39:36Jesus comes to rule and Reign, there will be no separation
- 39:39between secular and sacred. When Jesus Christ comes to rule
- 39:44and Reign, even the most common thing will be Sanctified for
- 39:48worship. Even something as insignificant
- 39:52as your pot, as your glasses of water as your forks, and your
- 39:58knives will be dedicated unto God and will be set apart for
- 40:04his glory. In other words, if the last days
- 40:08according to S to me, three will be smeared with self-love
- 40:12self-focused self attention self-praise.
- 40:16When Jesus Christ comes to rule and Reign everywhere you look,
- 40:18you're going to see Jesus Christ.
- 40:21When you go do the dishes, Jesus Christ.
- 40:24When you go fill up your car with gas.
- 40:25Jesus Christ. When you get dressed, everything
- 40:29will have the imprint of God on it.
- 40:31So that wherever you look, you will see his Beauty.
- 40:35And you will see that he is Sovereign over everything.
- 40:39When he comes to rule and Reign, he will claim everything.
- 40:42Even your pots. Because all things have been
- 40:47created through him and for him. And although this world is
- 40:50trying to clutch onto land and buildings and names, and bank
- 40:55accounts and weapons. When Christ comes, he will strip
- 41:00them out of their hands like taking a toy out of a baby's
- 41:03grip. And he will say it, belongs to
- 41:06me. I noticed this.
- 41:09What's the connection? Make it a study of yours to see
- 41:13what your home is going to look like, what the world is going to
- 41:17look like when Jesus Christ returns, Joy righteousness,
- 41:20peace so much, peace, that the world isn't going to know what
- 41:23to do with their weapons. You say, we got to turn this to
- 41:26farming equipment, we're not using our tanks, we're not using
- 41:29our AR-15s, we don't need this anymore.
- 41:32And the question is, how, how is the world going to be like that
- 41:36one? Yes, Jesus Christ is going to
- 41:38rule and Reign, but two, because everybody will Jesus, the focus.
- 41:45And we think this is a future reality and it is, but I've been
- 41:49taught and you've been taught to pray.
- 41:51Let Your Kingdom. Come On Earth, as it is in
- 41:55heaven. In other words, you and I should
- 41:59ask God to make what that Kingdom will look like a
- 42:02present-day reality as much as possible.
- 42:05Do you want to know how you can have joy?
- 42:07Peace, no Wars and your family. You want to know how you can
- 42:10have Harmony order Purity in our church.
- 42:14Do what Zechariah says will be done, make everything about
- 42:18Christ sanctify, everything unto Christ realize that your body
- 42:23doesn't belong to you, realize that your money doesn't belong
- 42:25to you. Realize that He is the center.
- 42:28He is the one that we worship and adore and serve.
- 42:31And when you do that, it's very difficult to have War.
- 42:35It's very difficult to see self-love.
- 42:40So you and I have to understand that, although the kingdom of
- 42:43God, is a future reality, there is a present application,
- 42:46because we have the kingdom of God raining in our hearts Christ
- 42:50is King today. Not just when he returns, So,
- 42:53what does that mean for you and me as the world increases in
- 42:56self love you. And I must say, Lord, I sanctify
- 42:59all things unto you, and I say it's wholly for you, it's
- 43:03separated unto you my tongue, my thoughts, my hands, my feet, my
- 43:07clothes, my resources, all yours.
- 43:10And as the world is being eaten up by corruption because of
- 43:13that, self-love, the church will grow, and greater power, and joy
- 43:18in the Holy Spirit, and Harmony and unity, because we are
- 43:21walking in the opposite spirit. That's the invitation today and
- 43:26what a beautiful way to transition as we come to break
- 43:29bread together. Declaring that Jesus Christ is
- 43:33King declaring that with this one loaf, we are indeed one
- 43:37declaring that. Yes.
- 43:38His body has come and that there was a prepared frame for him so
- 43:43that God would find the suitable sacrifice for our substitution.
- 43:47But at the same time, we are one body.
- 43:50We do not live according to self-love.
- 43:54We let the love of Christ, compels us.
- 43:58And when it compels us, each of us, then we will see the fruit
- 44:02of the kingdom of God in our midst, even now, can we prepare
- 44:05our hearts to Feast together? And when it compels us, each of
- 44:00us, then we will see the fruit of the kingdom of God in our
- 44:03midst, even now, can we prepare our hearts to Feast together?
