- 0:07Speaker 1: This Mead Podcast. Welcome to Meat Eater Trevia, the only
- 0:12Speaker 1: game show where conservation always wins. I'm your host Spencer
- 0:15Speaker 1: new Hearth and today we're joined by Stephen Runnella, Brodie Henderson, Chester,
- 0:20Speaker 1: Floyd Hayden, Sammick Randall, Williams, Dan Chumbler and Sam James.
- 0:24Speaker 1: This is a ten round quiz show with questions from
- 0:27Speaker 1: meat eaters four verticals which are hunting, fishing, conservation and cooking,
- 0:31Speaker 1: and there is a prize. Meat Eater will donate five
- 0:33Speaker 1: hundred dollars to the conservation organization of the winner's choosing
- 0:38Speaker 1: for the stat of the week. This week we're looking
- 0:40Speaker 1: at the Shelby Index. Shelby is my wife, and as
- 0:43Speaker 1: someone who isn't much of a subject matter expert, she
- 0:46Speaker 1: tends to get about half as many questions right as
- 0:49Speaker 1: the winner, but usually more than some people in the room.
- 0:54Speaker 1: That does happen, Yeah, quite often, As that's my number
- 0:57Speaker 1: to hit, she would be like a like a she'd
- 0:59Speaker 1: be like a pretty good player there. There was one
- 1:02Speaker 1: episode actually where she had gotten six and our winner
- 1:06Speaker 1: had gotten six, and then when I went home, I
- 1:08Speaker 1: gave her the tiebreaker and she beat Yannie on the tiebreaker. Wow,
- 1:12Speaker 1: so that's happened one time, she'd be like a pretty
- 1:14Speaker 1: legit player. Now. I introduced this barometer last year is
- 1:17Speaker 1: a way to gauge how difficult rounds of trivia are.
- 1:21Speaker 1: And here are the results. The Shelby index has been
- 1:24Speaker 1: dead nuts nine out of nineteen episodes, which is forty
- 1:27Speaker 1: seven percent of the time. Her average score for those
- 1:30Speaker 1: nineteen episodes was three point eight, while the average winning
- 1:34Speaker 1: score for those episodes was a seven point three. That
- 1:37Speaker 1: means her average score is fifty two percent of the
- 1:41Speaker 1: average winning score, so it's pretty close. I think I
- 1:44Speaker 1: got lost. So her average on those nineteen episodes was
- 1:48Speaker 1: three point eight and the average winning score on those
- 1:52Speaker 1: episodes was seven point three, So she's getting fifty two
- 1:56Speaker 1: percent of the amount of points that our winner gets.
- 1:59Speaker 1: That's what you always say, That's what I say. But
- 2:01Speaker 1: now we have the data to prove there's just an
- 2:02Speaker 1: adulto before now we know it's it's there. Here's our
- 2:07Speaker 1: zero percent question in the week. This is a question
- 2:09Speaker 1: that nobody got right from episode three forty nine. Here
- 2:12Speaker 1: it is, according to Anthony Bourdain, you should never order
- 2:15Speaker 1: seafood from a restaurant on what day of the week Monday, Monday.
- 2:20Speaker 1: You're right. The incorrect answers we had given that episode
- 2:23Speaker 1: were Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. The correct answer, though, was Monday.
- 2:27Speaker 1: That was a quote from Bourdain's two thousand book, which
- 2:29Speaker 1: he later retracted, saying that seafood markets and restaurants standards
- 2:34Speaker 1: have changed in the last two decades. Now, we also
- 2:37Speaker 1: have some housekeeping to get you before we play. In
- 2:39Speaker 1: a previous game of trivia, I asked what gender specific
- 2:43Speaker 1: term refers to an uncastrated adult male horse. The correct
- 2:47Speaker 1: answer was stallion, but about a dozen listeners wrote in
- 2:50Speaker 1: asking if I'd also accept stud. I'd looked it up,
- 2:53Speaker 1: and the definition of a stud is quote a stallion
- 2:57Speaker 1: kept especially for breeding. So if you said stud, I'd
- 3:01Speaker 1: consider that a correct answer. I don't think we had
- 3:04Speaker 1: anybody in the room though, who said stud that day.
- 3:07Speaker 1: If you hadn't been right now, Tennessee used to what's
- 3:11Speaker 1: that song? Just listening going? Johnny Cash a bunch of um?
- 3:16Speaker 1: Maybe I think he wrote it? Probably not um. What's
- 3:19Speaker 1: his name, don Doc Watson? Maybe no, probably not. It's
- 3:26Speaker 1: probably older Chester. Tell us about that hat you look
- 3:29Speaker 1: like you wrote in on a Tennessee stud I didn't
- 3:33Speaker 1: um just to clarify, but Steve got me a beaver hat.
- 3:42Speaker 1: It's really nice, warm, good ice fishing hair. Yeah, there's
- 3:45Speaker 1: gonna be sweat rolling down in the face at the
- 3:47Speaker 1: end of this. Well, he's gonna be pulling, like all
- 3:50Speaker 1: those hairs pull information out of the atmosphere. Man. Yeah,
- 3:57Speaker 1: a little an tennis dude. If I win today, I'm
- 4:00Speaker 1: wearing this for every single man. My kid just said, like,
- 4:05Speaker 1: at my kids' school, they have a project where they
- 4:07Speaker 1: got to bring in a thousand or something like a
- 4:10Speaker 1: collection to one thousand of something. What are some examples
- 4:13Speaker 1: of what other kids are doing? Real standard? I had
- 4:17Speaker 1: a big patch of deer hide about eighteen inches square
- 4:22Speaker 1: that a dude gave me that was from a melanistic deer,
- 4:27Speaker 1: so you would like, like just not eat, like off
- 4:33Speaker 1: the edge. I took a pair of fly tie and
- 4:36Speaker 1: scissors and just off the edge, removed a thousand hairs
- 4:41Speaker 1: off the edge, countered them what I think. No, No,
- 4:46Speaker 1: we made a pile of one hundred, and then we
- 4:50Speaker 1: eyeballed that pile real careful and made nine more piles
- 4:53Speaker 1: that looked exactly the same as that pile. So then
- 4:56Speaker 1: he brought those in the baggy, but with the hunk
- 4:59Speaker 1: of deer hide, and he's like, here's my collection. No,
- 5:04Speaker 1: I ask you how many hairs around this fun this chunk?
- 5:11Speaker 1: How many hairs around this chi? No twitch. The answers
- 5:15Speaker 1: be like millions. I don't know. A million. Yeah, that's
- 5:18Speaker 1: a thousand thousand. Easy, m that's pretty cool. That's just
- 5:24Speaker 1: a little hunka hid. It's different. Did you feel bad
- 5:27Speaker 1: cutting hair off? The melanistic You don't understand. It's like
- 5:31Speaker 1: you can't tell. It was just like we went along
- 5:33Speaker 1: the edge. It was like an inch of hair, wasn't
- 5:36Speaker 1: that We went along the edge like you would you
- 5:39Speaker 1: could just with one little tip of the just went
- 5:41Speaker 1: along the edge. You can't tell, like there's a border.
- 5:48Speaker 1: We just went along the one, not even like one
- 5:51Speaker 1: wall of one border. And did he get some light
- 5:53Speaker 1: ones in there or not? No, it's like it's pretty dark.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Good on you. M hmm. Now, Also in a previous game,
- 6:04Speaker 1: I was just thinking, um, this, this may not be right.
- 6:07Speaker 1: But I remember I recall reading or hearing that the
- 6:13Speaker 1: fur on a seal is so dense that there's twenty
- 6:15Speaker 1: thousand hairs per square inch. I think I think otters
- 6:19Speaker 1: may have the densest good on you, Brody. We had
- 6:22Speaker 1: some of you write in suggesting that is a trivia
- 6:24Speaker 1: question as to what mammal has the densest hair um
- 6:28Speaker 1: and I tried to check you feel about the sources. Well,
- 6:35Speaker 1: the reason we wound up with that deer. If you
- 6:37Speaker 1: wanted to actually hear more about this, we tried it
- 6:40Speaker 1: with Kyle. Impossible, impossible, it's too fine to deal with.
- 6:45Speaker 1: There's so much of it. You can't. It's like impost
- 6:48Speaker 1: you could never it would you can't do it. We
- 6:51Speaker 1: looked at we looked at a muskrat, we looked at
- 6:53Speaker 1: a kyo, we looked at a skunk's tail. And the
- 6:57Speaker 1: reason we had to go with that deer is because
- 7:00Speaker 1: you can't. You can't, like, yeah, you take a little
- 7:04Speaker 1: snip of it. You can't. You're like, I don't know thousands, Yeah, wow,
- 7:08Speaker 1: I wonder how many fibers there is in a turkey beard. Now,
- 7:11Speaker 1: if we did Brody's head, dude, we'd had the whole
- 7:13Speaker 1: damn head, you would have got to a thousand. That
- 7:18Speaker 1: his beard, I don't know, man, Well, that's what I
- 7:20Speaker 1: can't get over about that hat. Of chesters. Is it
- 7:24Speaker 1: looks as much like a beaver wig as it does
- 7:26Speaker 1: a hat. Perfect It's good, big old buck teeth now now.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Also in a previous game, we learned that squirrels cause
- 7:36Speaker 1: the most power outages in America and that jellyfish are
- 7:40Speaker 1: also near the top of the list. Steve wanted to
- 7:42Speaker 1: know how jellyfish can pull that off, so I looked
- 7:45Speaker 1: it up and here's what I found. Jellyfish can cause
- 7:47Speaker 1: major power outages by getting clogged in the intake pipes
- 7:51Speaker 1: of power plants. This can happen worldwide, but the most
- 7:54Speaker 1: extreme example was in the Philippines in nineteen ninety nine.
- 7:58Speaker 1: That's where a bloom of jellyfish is drifted too close
- 8:01Speaker 1: to a coal power plant and got sucked into its pumps.
- 8:04Speaker 1: The event knocked out power for forty million people and
- 8:07Speaker 1: wasn't remedied until cleanup crews extracted fifty tons of jellyfish
- 8:12Speaker 1: from the plants pipes. A bloom of jelly, bloom of jellyfish.
- 8:17Speaker 1: I'd read that they can be a swarm, a bloom,
- 8:20Speaker 1: or a swat or something like that. And there's some
- 8:25Speaker 1: weird group names from how about a group of rhinos
- 8:29Speaker 1: do you know what that is. That was a real
- 8:31Speaker 1: popular poster for a while, but I can't remember what
- 8:33Speaker 1: it is to crash crash. That's good, but that's not
- 8:37Speaker 1: a question for today either, Randall. So nope, I'm kind
- 8:40Speaker 1: of screwed. What he got a trivia question for you?
- 8:44Speaker 1: In terms of pounds consumed per person per annum in America,
- 8:53Speaker 1: per annum per year. Okay, pounds consumed per person per
- 8:59Speaker 1: year in the United States, what do you think the
- 9:03Speaker 1: top four classifications of fish are. It's probably small stuff
- 9:08Speaker 1: um like anchovies, sardines, pollock. Nope, tuna, god god tuna, salmon,
- 9:17Speaker 1: ba tilapia number four. Let's get catfish number four. Camfish
- 9:23Speaker 1: aren't the top four, So whatever is number one? Okay, shrimp?
- 9:29Speaker 1: Now if you if that and shrimp was the answer,
- 9:34Speaker 1: you'd argue that shrimp wasn't fish. I agree, Yeah, it's
- 9:37Speaker 1: not your bugs. Tell me. I was shocked to see
- 9:41Speaker 1: twappion their number four. Now, the Shelby indexpert today's episode
- 9:45Speaker 1: is a three, so our winner should get about six
- 9:48Speaker 1: correct answers. And with that we're onto the game of
- 9:50Speaker 1: trivia played the drop filled Look, I need to know
- 9:56Speaker 1: what I stand to win? Everything? How's that had just
- 10:00Speaker 1: tend to win everything? Game on sus. Question one, the
- 10:12Speaker 1: topic is woodsmanship. Which of these outdoor magazines is not real?
- 10:20Speaker 1: Is it? Fins and feathers, fur fish, game, game and
- 10:25Speaker 1: fish or fish fur feather. You might want to write
- 10:29Speaker 1: these down. Which of these outdoor magazines is not real?
- 10:34Speaker 1: Fins and feathers, fur fish, game, game and fish or
- 10:40Speaker 1: fish fur feather? Three of them are real, one of
- 10:44Speaker 1: them is not. Again, your four choices fins and feathers,
- 10:48Speaker 1: fur fish, game, game, and fish, fish fur feather. Steve,
- 10:54Speaker 1: do you know this one? Yeah? I think I do,
- 10:58Speaker 1: but I got a problem. But on bring it up.
- 11:01Speaker 1: It will help people, all right, Brody's still thinking? Did
- 11:06Speaker 1: you write them all out? Brody? I'm writing, Okay, I'll
- 11:09Speaker 1: say this. Somewhere in there, you missed a conjunction. That is, yes,
- 11:16Speaker 1: conjunction junction. Remember that is everybody really Chester, go ahead
- 11:24Speaker 1: and you reveal your answers. We have Steve saying fish
- 11:28Speaker 1: for feather, Dan saying fish for feather, Hayden saying fish
- 11:33Speaker 1: for feather by the whole room. The whole room said
- 11:37Speaker 1: fish for feather. They got it right. The correct answer
- 11:39Speaker 1: is fish for feather. I still have subscriptions to the
- 11:43Speaker 1: other three. You do for Fish and Game, not for
- 11:47Speaker 1: Fish Game. It's for fish Game. It's a dash between
- 11:49Speaker 1: each of the words for Fish Game. I still love that.
- 11:53Speaker 1: I still love that magazine. Dude, When I was a
- 11:55Speaker 1: kid man, that was the Yeah, I can't remember who
- 11:59Speaker 1: there for animals. Parker Dozer was Trapper Predator Caller. I
- 12:03Speaker 1: can't remember who the the market analyst at fur, Fish
- 12:06Speaker 1: and Game. That was a good maga. They had strictly
- 12:09Speaker 1: illustrated covers, right, They didn't do photos, didn't they. I
- 12:12Speaker 1: feel like they cornered the market on folks who like
- 12:14Speaker 1: to trap, right, Well, yeah, but you know, Trapper and
- 12:18Speaker 1: Predator Caller got good for a long time. You know.
- 12:22Speaker 1: They also had a good classified section where you could
- 12:24Speaker 1: like send away for all kinds of weird stuff. You know. No,
- 12:28Speaker 1: you don't remember, like the sea creature in the back, No,
- 12:31Speaker 1: like Traps and Finns and Feathers was a national publication
- 12:36Speaker 1: that ran from the mid nineteen seventies to late nineteen eighties.
- 12:40Speaker 1: For Fish Game printed its first magazine in nineteen twenty
- 12:43Speaker 1: five and still publishes twelve issues each year. Game and
- 12:46Speaker 1: Fish has been around since nineteen seventy six and still
- 12:49Speaker 1: publishes twelve issues each year. Fish Fur Feather is a
- 12:52Speaker 1: magazine that I made up by combining the other three titles.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Question two topic is fishing. This is our listener question
- 13:00Speaker 1: in the week, which was won by Caleb McClain for
- 13:02Speaker 1: sending this great question. Caleb is going to get a
- 13:05Speaker 1: book signed by Steve. Named two of the seven states
- 13:10Speaker 1: that list the stripe bass as their official state fish. M.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Name two of the seven states that list the striped
- 13:21Speaker 1: bass as their official state fish. M. Good on this
- 13:26Speaker 1: crew forgetting question one right. Every looking for two of
- 13:31Speaker 1: the seven states? Steve, did you ever write for for
- 13:37Speaker 1: a fish game? I don't think I've ever published in fame.
- 13:41Speaker 1: I thought you had your first byeline? Now who had
- 13:44Speaker 1: your first byline? Predator? That question again, named two of
- 13:51Speaker 1: the seven states that list the striped bass as their
- 13:56Speaker 1: official state fish. Not a very confident room Randall with
- 14:01Speaker 1: the quickest answer. I don't know if he's confident. He
- 14:04Speaker 1: just wants to intimidate folks. Is a doozy Randall? How
- 14:08Speaker 1: you feel about this one? I feel reasonably confident. Okay,
- 14:12Speaker 1: two of the seven states. M. I'm just okay. Seven,
- 14:19Speaker 1: seven of them? Brodie, how you doing over there? I
- 14:24Speaker 1: feel like it can only be a certain number of states, right,
- 14:28Speaker 1: and seven of them, like like in a certain I'm
- 14:35Speaker 1: not you know, like he said too much? He thinks
- 14:39Speaker 1: does everybody have an answer? Yeah? By walking everybody? Why
- 14:42Speaker 1: are you walking everybody through it? Man? I didn't. I didn't.
- 14:45Speaker 1: I could have kept going, and now I'd have ruined it. Chester,
- 14:48Speaker 1: how are we doing? Not? Very good? Sam? Down here?
- 14:52Speaker 1: Oh give me a sec. Okay, Steve, you think you
- 14:55Speaker 1: got a chance. Oh yeah, man, I'd be shocked if
- 14:58Speaker 1: I didn't get one of them right, m Chester. I'm
- 15:02Speaker 1: left handed, and I always keep I just keep smearing everything.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Are you ready? I'm ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 15:11Speaker 1: We have Steve saying Rhode Island in New York, Dan
- 15:15Speaker 1: saying Alabama, Mississippi. Hayden sang Rhode Island, New Jersey. Brodie
- 15:20Speaker 1: sang Maryland, New Jersey, Sam saying Maryland, Massachusetts, Chester saying
- 15:26Speaker 1: New York, Delaware, Randall saying Massachusetts, Maryland. The seven states
- 15:32Speaker 1: are Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island,
- 15:37Speaker 1: South Carolina, and Virginia. I think the room did pretty
- 15:41Speaker 1: well again. The seventh state's New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York,
- 15:44Speaker 1: Rhode Island, South Carolina, Virginia. After brook trout, stripe bass
- 15:48Speaker 1: are the most common state fish in America. Maryland was
- 15:52Speaker 1: the first state to declare the stripe bass their official
- 15:55Speaker 1: state fish in nineteenth they I know, that's that's why
- 16:00Speaker 1: I didn't put them suckers down. New Jersey is the
- 16:02Speaker 1: latest state to do so, making the stripe bass their
- 16:05Speaker 1: official saltwater fish in twenty seventeen. I think there are
- 16:09Speaker 1: two states that designated as a rockfish, but that's a
- 16:12Speaker 1: stripe bass. You know what I'm saying. If you went,
- 16:14Speaker 1: if you were in Maryland right now and you looked
- 16:16Speaker 1: up their state with all their state listen ads to
- 16:19Speaker 1: get what did you say, rockfish or stripe bass and
- 16:21Speaker 1: get back to you later on that can. I remember
- 16:24Speaker 1: sitting there and we're watching some fish crash bait in
- 16:26Speaker 1: a little estuary, and you're like, I'm rockfish that hunt, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 16:34Speaker 1: smoke some of that wacky tobacco yellow eyes in their
- 16:38Speaker 1: bust and baits. Question three, the topic is conservation. Johnny
- 16:44Speaker 1: Horizon and Seymour antelope are the official mascots of what
- 16:49Speaker 1: federal agency? What can you read that again? What topic
- 16:53Speaker 1: is conservation? Johnny Horizon and Seymour Antelope are the official
- 16:59Speaker 1: mascot of what federal agency? Nobody knows this one right
- 17:06Speaker 1: off the bat. Folks are just gonna be taking a
- 17:09Speaker 1: stab again. Johnny Horizon and see More Antalope are the
- 17:13Speaker 1: official mascots of what federal agency. Hmmmmm. Steve with a
- 17:21Speaker 1: quick answer, how you feel about it? Well, let's take
- 17:26Speaker 1: a broader look. I've got a perfect game so far. Okay, two,
- 17:31Speaker 1: So even if I falter right now, it's like, you
- 17:35Speaker 1: know whatever, share again, Johnny Horizon and see More Antalope. No,
- 17:42Speaker 1: Randall with a quick answer, Randall, do you know this?
- 17:45Speaker 1: I did not. I'm just making a guess based off
- 17:48Speaker 1: of context. And I'm really curious to know what Johnny
- 17:51Speaker 1: Horizon looks like. Yeah, I mean kind of like Johnny Bravo,
- 17:56Speaker 1: but flatter. He's very like he's very very short. He
- 18:00Speaker 1: is like very short and wide Johnny Horizon and Seymour Antelope. Sam,
- 18:06Speaker 1: you're gonna come up with an answer? Yeah, I mean
- 18:09Speaker 1: I think I can guess at a government agency. Okay,
- 18:12Speaker 1: you'll have to do. Yea, here comes Chester. You ready, Hayden,
- 18:22Speaker 1: You're ready. I'm pretty sure I just made something. Go
- 18:25Speaker 1: ahead and reveal your answers. We have Steve saying BLM,
- 18:30Speaker 1: Dan same game Commission, Hayden saying Federal Prairie Reserve, Brody
- 18:35Speaker 1: saying BLM, Sam saying BLM, Chester saying National Wildlife Federation,
- 18:42Speaker 1: Randall saying BLM. Where's you guys are naming agencies? An
- 18:46Speaker 1: art agencies? Yeah? Yeah, The correct answer is the Bureau
- 18:50Speaker 1: of Land Management Room did perf well? Johnny Horizon was
- 18:55Speaker 1: a cowboy who made his debut in nineteen sixty eight.
- 18:58Speaker 1: He campaigned for pick up trash, putting out fires, and
- 19:02Speaker 1: leaving gates how you found them? Johnny retired in nineteen
- 19:05Speaker 1: seventy six. BLM then debuted their new mascot, Seymour Antelope
- 19:10Speaker 1: in two thousand and eight. Seymour is considered an ambassador
- 19:13Speaker 1: to young people, encouraging them to connect with nature and
- 19:16Speaker 1: explore public lands. Question for I think they've got a
- 19:20Speaker 1: cousin shoot more. I think those are pretty good mascots
- 19:25Speaker 1: for the BLM. Yeah. Question for the topic is public lands.
- 19:29Speaker 1: This next great question comes to us via Carl Gustafsson.
- 19:33Speaker 1: If you have a question you think is right for
- 19:34Speaker 1: Meat Eater Trivia, you can send it to trivia at
- 19:36Speaker 1: the mediator dot com. What state is home to the
- 19:40Speaker 1: nation's smallest national park? Which is just ninety one acres?
- 19:46Speaker 1: Brody with a quick answer. Again, the question is what
- 19:49Speaker 1: state is home to the nation's smallest national park? Which
- 19:54Speaker 1: is just ninety one acres? Brody? Do you know this one? Well,
- 19:58Speaker 1: I'm going with the answer that popped into my head. Okay, fast,
- 20:02Speaker 1: no one else. Brody's got it though, again, looking for
- 20:06Speaker 1: the smallest national park, which is nine in a state?
- 20:13Speaker 1: Looking for you need to tell me what state it's in?
- 20:18Speaker 1: The room is struggling minus Brody? Is the perfect game
- 20:23Speaker 1: going to continue? Still? No, it's not. Your confidence is
- 20:26Speaker 1: like one out of fifty Is that what you think? No? Okay,
- 20:29Speaker 1: you got a better chance than that. Yeah, but the
- 20:32Speaker 1: one I'm thinking of is it technically so that can't
- 20:40Speaker 1: be right. He wouldn't make them. I mean, he makes
- 20:42Speaker 1: some dumb ass mistakes, but he wouldn't make a mistake that.
- 20:44Speaker 1: I've got a one in fifty shot, okay, two percent
- 20:49Speaker 1: chance for Chester Dandy. You have an answer, I do Okay, Sam, yep, Randall,
- 20:58Speaker 1: I'll just leave it. Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 21:02Speaker 1: We have Cea saying New York, Dan saying California, Hayden
- 21:06Speaker 1: saying Rhode Island, Brodie saying California. Sam saying Rhode Island. Chester,
- 21:11Speaker 1: you're saying Florida, Randall saying Massachusetts. Nobody got it right.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Correct answer is Missouri. Gateway Arch National Park in Saint Louis,
- 21:23Speaker 1: five thousand acres, smaller than the next smallest national park,
- 21:27Speaker 1: which is Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas. The Gateway
- 21:31Speaker 1: Arch is six hundred thirty feet tall and six hundred
- 21:34Speaker 1: thirty feet wide. He was built in nineteen sixty five
- 21:37Speaker 1: and is meant to symbolize America's gateway to the West.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Why is that not a monument? That is a weird one. Yeah,
- 21:44Speaker 1: there's some little island off the coast at California that
- 21:47Speaker 1: was a national park. Nobody, yep, did it? Was it?
- 21:54Speaker 1: Was it worth it? That Hot Springs, Arkansas. If you
- 21:57Speaker 1: ride the little elevator up to the top, you can
- 21:59Speaker 1: look over the beauty full scenery of western Illinois industrial plants.
- 22:04Speaker 1: It's just quite gorgeous. Clint Clay's working on a bear
- 22:07Speaker 1: grease about the stigmatism of Arkansas, like for a long time,
- 22:14Speaker 1: Arkansas is the most ridiculed state in the nation. And
- 22:18Speaker 1: to as his like in refuting that stereotype, he's spending
- 22:24Speaker 1: some time on Walmart and Clinton. Now I should say
- 22:33Speaker 1: refuting it, but in complicating it. Yeah, he's getting into Walmart,
- 22:37Speaker 1: Clinton and some fancy ass uh Art museum. That's some
- 22:40Speaker 1: some like that episode, like complicating Factors of Arkansas. You
- 22:47Speaker 1: know they came out. Yeah, it came out at the
- 22:49Speaker 1: at the time of recording, so on March eighth. Oh
- 22:53Speaker 1: there you go, go listen to it. Yet proud of Walmart, dude.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Clay one time was telling us about Walmarts, Like Walmarts
- 23:04Speaker 1: someone that works in manufacturing and supply. I was telling
- 23:06Speaker 1: us about how good Walmart is about ensuring worker conditions overseas.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Clay perched right up, dude, he was glowing. He's like,
- 23:19Speaker 1: can you tell us again about Walmart? That's fine. I
- 23:22Speaker 1: get giddy now when I encountered just a regular Walmart
- 23:25Speaker 1: instead of a super Walmart. Every now and then, I
- 23:27Speaker 1: feel like in the Midwest or the South, you come
- 23:29Speaker 1: across one just a regular old Walmart without the grocery store.
- 23:33Speaker 1: It's a real treat and there's like a time traveled. Yeah,
- 23:35Speaker 1: Walmart's pulling out of Portland. Why you know when you
- 23:41Speaker 1: see an article, you don't read it. Question? Fine, I
- 23:45Speaker 1: always start because I always tell me about Reddit. I'm
- 23:47Speaker 1: gonna start changing what I say at headline question. I
- 23:51Speaker 1: was reading about the article in the headline, The topic
- 23:55Speaker 1: is cooking. This cheese, which is often used in lasagna,
- 24:01Speaker 1: has a name that means recooked in Italian. Quick answer
- 24:06Speaker 1: from the entire rooms. Maybe one hundred percent correct. Like
- 24:10Speaker 1: the first question, This cheese, which is often used in lasagna,
- 24:15Speaker 1: has a name that means recooked in Italian. Definitely didn't
- 24:21Speaker 1: spell it right, Okay, is everybody ready go ahead and
- 24:25Speaker 1: reveal your answers. Ricotto, rico, ricotta, ricotta chester. That's one
- 24:31Speaker 1: of the more off. You're gonna do a little time.
- 24:33Speaker 1: It was one of the more done. Yeah, everybody says
- 24:37Speaker 1: like ricotta is correct. Ricotta cheese is made by recooking
- 24:43Speaker 1: the way left over from making other cheese, which is
- 24:46Speaker 1: often mozzarella. It can be used as a substitute for
- 24:49Speaker 1: cottage cheese, cream cheese, and mayo If you want a
- 24:53Speaker 1: great lasan your recipe that uses it, then go to
- 24:55Speaker 1: the Meat Eater dot com and check out Lucas Leaf's
- 24:57Speaker 1: recipe for venison fennel lasagna. Steve, when else do you
- 25:02Speaker 1: use ricata besides lasagna? Give me an example, omelets. Yeah,
- 25:09Speaker 1: but you'd use it in other things that involve You'd
- 25:12Speaker 1: use it in other concoctions that involve like some sort
- 25:16Speaker 1: of pasta and tomato kind of thing. Uh. I don't
- 25:21Speaker 1: like that question. Okay, right, how bad could it be?
- 25:24Speaker 1: Fel we are halfway through the game of trivia, give
- 25:27Speaker 1: us a scoreboard update. Sure thing, No one's running away
- 25:29Speaker 1: with the game. Um, but we have Chester and Dan
- 25:33Speaker 1: tied up with two points. Sam, Randall and Hayden have
- 25:38Speaker 1: three points apiece and tied for first place. Four points
- 25:41Speaker 1: are Stephen Brodie. Yeah, I got to take advantage of
- 25:48Speaker 1: a one point lead over Randall. Man. Well, he came
- 25:51Speaker 1: in hot. You know. A long time ago. I told
- 25:57Speaker 1: my wife this, I said, Randall won't admit it, but
- 26:00Speaker 1: one percent of the reason that he's moving here so
- 26:02Speaker 1: he can play Meat Eater Trivia. And then last episode
- 26:05Speaker 1: Randall says, yeah, I'm just moving here, so I can
- 26:07Speaker 1: play Meat Eater Trivia and now I don't think it's
- 26:09Speaker 1: a joke anymore. Randall, I don't. I don't know that
- 26:12Speaker 1: it has like a cause of effect. But okay, certainly
- 26:14Speaker 1: like confirm that. I'm like, it's not that far. Question six,
- 26:31Speaker 1: the topic is hunting. This next great question comes to
- 26:34Speaker 1: is via Jeff James. If you have a question you
- 26:36Speaker 1: think is right for Meat Eater Trivia, you can send
- 26:38Speaker 1: it to trivia at the meat eater dot com. This
- 26:41Speaker 1: is a visual question. If you want to see what
- 26:44Speaker 1: the room is seeing, then go to Instagram and check
- 26:46Speaker 1: out at Spencer Newharth. I'll make it my most recent post.
- 26:51Speaker 1: This former NASCAR driver is famous for wearing cowboy hats
- 26:55Speaker 1: that often feature pheasant feathers, rattlesnake skins, and racoon vaculums.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Pass that around the rim again. This former NASCAR driver
- 27:08Speaker 1: is famous for wearing cowboy hats that often feature pheasant feathers,
- 27:12Speaker 1: rattlesnake skins, and raccoon vaculums. Randall and Brody didn't even
- 27:17Speaker 1: need the picture. I've seen that guy a million I know, Brody,
- 27:23Speaker 1: is it who you thought it was? If? I? Yeah, thanks,
- 27:27Speaker 1: I mean Hopefully I'm remember remembering his name right again,
- 27:31Speaker 1: It's not Mario and Reddy is This former NASCAR driver
- 27:39Speaker 1: is famous for wearing cowcar that often feature pheasant feathers,
- 27:44Speaker 1: rattlesnake skins, and raccoon vaculums. We will do Jeopardy rules.
- 27:48Speaker 1: If you have the last name, will take that. You
- 27:50Speaker 1: don't need first name. I don't really know Nascar, Okay,
- 27:57Speaker 1: I would suspect that Brody and Randall don't know NASCAR either,
- 28:01Speaker 1: but they might recognize this fellow. Oh yeah, dude, make
- 28:04Speaker 1: a movie about this guy. I don't know Ricky Bobby
- 28:08Speaker 1: an Yeah, I recognize the Dickens. Can't remember his damn name? Man,
- 28:15Speaker 1: I know Randall? Is that who you thought it was?
- 28:20Speaker 1: I believe so, con unless I'm getting the name wrong.
- 28:25Speaker 1: If I want to see this and his hat to
- 28:30Speaker 1: check out at Spencer New Hearth, what are you seeing
- 28:34Speaker 1: on those hats there, Steve, he's looking for the guy's initials, Oh,
- 28:41Speaker 1: any indicators of who he is? An embroidered shirt has
- 28:44Speaker 1: been blurred out. What's this saying, Steve? That you say?
- 28:49Speaker 1: Is it like your hat? Personality? Can't be Never wear
- 28:53Speaker 1: a hat that says hello before you do, okay or no, no,
- 28:58Speaker 1: never were Yeah, never wear I have to have more
- 29:00Speaker 1: personality while Chester's sitting here in a beaver hat. But
- 29:04Speaker 1: I don't think that that violates that because I'll wear
- 29:06Speaker 1: one of those. But I would never be able to
- 29:08Speaker 1: wear like that crazy ass hat that guy's got on.
- 29:10Speaker 1: I would say that the beaver had says hello, before
- 29:13Speaker 1: you do that, I think so too. I mean, in
- 29:19Speaker 1: a podcast studio he does says I'm a practical fella
- 29:23Speaker 1: who knows how to trap. Does everybody have an answer
- 29:25Speaker 1: for who this former NASCAR driver is? Oh? Oh, okay,
- 29:31Speaker 1: I just it just occurred to me. Was this divine
- 29:34Speaker 1: or humunculous? What happened? Let that one go on a
- 29:39Speaker 1: long time in incha spencer, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 29:44Speaker 1: We have Steve saying petty, Dan saying Richard Petty, Hayden
- 29:48Speaker 1: saying Rick, Thomas Brody saying Petty, Sam saying Earnhart, Chester's
- 29:53Speaker 1: saying Dale, Earnhart, Randall saying Richard Petty. The correct answer
- 29:59Speaker 1: is Richard Petty. God just canny be light like it
- 30:02Speaker 1: floored through Chester's hat to me, right right out of it. Terry, Yeah,
- 30:12Speaker 1: like you know, someone gets struck by lightning and like
- 30:14Speaker 1: he does a gazape with the dude next him does
- 30:16Speaker 1: because like the information came into Chester's fur hat flowed
- 30:20Speaker 1: down the table on my leg into my head. Although
- 30:24Speaker 1: Petty's racing career began in nineteen sixty eight and he
- 30:28Speaker 1: didn't start wearing the famous Charlie one horse hats until
- 30:31Speaker 1: nineteen eighty, the flamboyant hats made him a fan favorite,
- 30:35Speaker 1: helping him win the Most Popular Driver Award nine times.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Petty's hat is so iconic that a signed version is
- 30:42Speaker 1: on display at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History.
- 30:46Speaker 1: We're gonna get back to hunting fishing on the next question,
- 30:50Speaker 1: Question seven. The topic is fishing. What body of water
- 30:56Speaker 1: is often referred to as floored is in and see?
- 31:03Speaker 1: What body of water is often referred to as Florida's inland.
- 31:08Speaker 1: See quick answers from most of the room. Did not
- 31:13Speaker 1: take into account that Steve got off a plane from
- 31:17Speaker 1: Florida yesterday? Is that gonna help you? Well? No, because
- 31:23Speaker 1: no one told me that. I think he might have
- 31:24Speaker 1: known this before he again, what body of water is
- 31:28Speaker 1: often referred to as Florida's inland Sea. Does everybody have
- 31:33Speaker 1: an answer? Okay, I was writing it down very confident,
- 31:37Speaker 1: room Chester, Would you just add there to your whiteboard,
- 31:43Speaker 1: just the letter go ahead, answers okay Choby, Dan saying Okabojee,
- 31:50Speaker 1: which is in Iowa. Hayden Sang says that body sang
- 31:57Speaker 1: Eld Sam saying, boy, these there are some creative spelling.
- 32:01Speaker 1: Sam saying Oka Chobe. Chester saying Okachobe. No, what did
- 32:06Speaker 1: that say? Let's see it, Okadobe, Okachobe. I Okay, oka Chobe.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Randall saying Oka Chobe. They got it. The correct answer
- 32:14Speaker 1: is lake Okachobe. Were right? Seriously, I don't think we're
- 32:17Speaker 1: gonna give it to Dan who said a lake that
- 32:19Speaker 1: is an isola. I think he's saying of Lake Okabogie,
- 32:23Speaker 1: which is in the northwest corner of the state. I
- 32:25Speaker 1: believe Brodie said the Everglades, which is not right. The
- 32:29Speaker 1: Everglades are not the same as Lake Okeechobee is the
- 32:33Speaker 1: head of the Everglades. It's right. At seven hundred thirty
- 32:37Speaker 1: four square miles, Okachobee is the tenth largest natural freshwater
- 32:41Speaker 1: lake in the United States. It's a relatively young lake,
- 32:45Speaker 1: forming just six thousand years ago when ocean waters receded
- 32:49Speaker 1: from the minor depression that is the lake bed. Amazingly,
- 32:52Speaker 1: the average depth of Lake Okochobee is nine feet and
- 32:55Speaker 1: the deepest part is thirteen feet. I was on that
- 32:58Speaker 1: mother liquor last week. Yeah, we had a we had
- 33:02Speaker 1: an airbnb and there's this uh what river was that?
- 33:06Speaker 1: Uh Caloosa Hatchie which connects to Controlby And we were
- 33:12Speaker 1: out there trying to catch some bass and Steve said,
- 33:15Speaker 1: we never would catch a bass, And did you Chris,
- 33:20Speaker 1: Chris Gill caught a bucket? Now what happened? Okay, it's
- 33:22Speaker 1: not okay side of the story. Do you want to
- 33:26Speaker 1: hear my side of the story. Yeah, there's a little
- 33:30Speaker 1: dock on the river and there's some cattail ponds, and
- 33:32Speaker 1: they come back all excited going to Walmart buy a
- 33:37Speaker 1: rod for twenty two bucks and buy a bunch of
- 33:38Speaker 1: ten inch artificials. And I went down there to survey
- 33:45Speaker 1: the situation as the kind of place you can't dock.
- 33:47Speaker 1: Hop you got one damn doc Okay, And I just said,
- 33:51Speaker 1: I don't think that's how I was going to go down.
- 33:52Speaker 1: Give us some specifics, chatter of what you guys purchased.
- 33:55Speaker 1: We purchased a spinning rod. Okay, we um Shakespeare, just
- 34:00Speaker 1: a standard Shakespeare. Yeah, just like a real cheap twenty
- 34:04Speaker 1: three dollars spinning round with mono. Gil said he's never
- 34:07Speaker 1: going back to good rods. I can guarantee you I'm
- 34:12Speaker 1: going back to good And what were these artificial lures
- 34:16Speaker 1: that you had? It was just a big long eight
- 34:19Speaker 1: inch worm. And we were Texas, so they had a
- 34:22Speaker 1: bullet sinker. They had like a bullet sinker there in
- 34:25Speaker 1: a big old text. And they should have got some
- 34:27Speaker 1: live shower. So I told him, and I came up
- 34:30Speaker 1: with a fishing quote. I said, you're fishing the way
- 34:33Speaker 1: you wish the world was, yes, and not the way
- 34:36Speaker 1: the world is. Yeah. And I said, you go get
- 34:38Speaker 1: some crawlers. I'll show you some fish, which they did,
- 34:41Speaker 1: and then they started breaking and everything under the sun.
- 34:44Speaker 1: I love that about Okachelby is they're unabashed by using
- 34:47Speaker 1: bobbers and live bait. That's like a standard guiding guy.
- 34:52Speaker 1: And he was booking a client. I was with a
- 34:55Speaker 1: bass guy. We were out in his airboat. We went
- 34:57Speaker 1: shooting toil, happy with our bows. But he got a
- 35:00Speaker 1: hall and was booking a client and the client is
- 35:03Speaker 1: Pan Captain Bob Stafford. The client is panned to go
- 35:08Speaker 1: out bober fishing with shiners. Great, yeah, man, that's thirty
- 35:13Speaker 1: to forty thirty to forty bass days. It's awesome. Circle
- 35:20Speaker 1: hooks and he's off. He's on some body water just
- 35:22Speaker 1: north Oak Choby catch and release only circle hooks on
- 35:28Speaker 1: live bait. Is it an amazing to look out over
- 35:31Speaker 1: that whole sea and think that at thirteen feet it's
- 35:33Speaker 1: the deepest it gets? Question? We caught talapia, catfish and
- 35:39Speaker 1: a large mouth and were those all on the barber
- 35:42Speaker 1: rooms as well? Yes? How big? Some folks called Steve
- 35:46Speaker 1: Rigg how big basking like a eighteen seventeen eighteen inch? Ye?
- 35:52Speaker 1: Good bucket mouth. Well, when they come running back from
- 35:54Speaker 1: there to day or they're they're going to get some
- 35:57Speaker 1: sixteen pounders out of the Question eight, The topic is conservation.
- 36:05Speaker 1: White nose syndrome is a disease that's killed millions of
- 36:09Speaker 1: these animals in the last decade. Is not any way
- 36:13Speaker 1: for you to finish? And did a couple other folks
- 36:16Speaker 1: equaled Steve's confidence? Again? The question is white nose syndrome
- 36:21Speaker 1: is a disease that's killed millions of these animals in
- 36:25Speaker 1: the last decade. I think in the race between Brody,
- 36:28Speaker 1: Steve and Randall, Steve one with the quickest answer. Randall
- 36:33Speaker 1: and Brody also look quite confident. It's his question eight.
- 36:36Speaker 1: After this we will get a scoreboard update. Maybe we
- 36:39Speaker 1: should do a version of trivia with the buzzer deal.
- 36:43Speaker 1: Whoever rings in verse? Well, we did the holiday edition
- 36:47Speaker 1: that was right, family feud, but then it gets into
- 36:54Speaker 1: it gets complicated because you ring and you're wrong, and
- 36:57Speaker 1: I don't know. I think I think at some point
- 36:59Speaker 1: this year we're gonna try something where you have to
- 37:01Speaker 1: wager throughout the game. You can wage point. We'll see
- 37:05Speaker 1: if we like it or not. What do you mean,
- 37:07Speaker 1: like I have five final sty but do it throughout
- 37:13Speaker 1: the game again? Question eight? The topic is conservation. White
- 37:18Speaker 1: nose syndrome is a disease that's killed millions of these
- 37:22Speaker 1: animals in the last decade. How specific do we have
- 37:25Speaker 1: to get Do you think the answer is whitetail deer?
- 37:28Speaker 1: You can just say, dear, huh, well, how long do
- 37:34Speaker 1: people have? Because I got a little announcement to make
- 37:37Speaker 1: go ahead, if anyone out there has a print of
- 37:40Speaker 1: Eric von Schmidt's Here Fell Custer. Can you send Spencer note?
- 37:47Speaker 1: Why why is that? I want it for the new studio? Okay,
- 37:49Speaker 1: send it to Trivia at the meat eater dot com. Kyle,
- 37:52Speaker 1: he's been trying to track one down for me, but
- 37:54Speaker 1: it's hard to find. What's it called again? Here Fell
- 37:56Speaker 1: Custer by Eric von Schmidt, Here Fell you know where
- 38:01Speaker 1: to get it? Send its Tribua one Trivia the meat
- 38:04Speaker 1: eater dot Com. We got room for it. Does everybody
- 38:06Speaker 1: have an answer? Go ahead and reveal your answer. If
- 38:10Speaker 1: Steve saying bets, Dan saying mink, Hayden saying fish, Brodie
- 38:15Speaker 1: saying bets, Sam saying bets, Chester saying possums bets. But
- 38:21Speaker 1: he didn't even say possums. It was singular, he said critter,
- 38:26Speaker 1: just one of the millions of possums. The correct answer
- 38:30Speaker 1: is bats. White nose syndrome was discovered in America in
- 38:34Speaker 1: two thousand and six. It arrived here from Europe or
- 38:37Speaker 1: Asia and has been devastating bat populations ever since. It's
- 38:41Speaker 1: estimated that about seven million bats have died from the
- 38:44Speaker 1: fungal disease in the last fifteen years, and biologists now
- 38:47Speaker 1: consider it the greatest threat to North America's native bats.
- 38:52Speaker 1: Fell give us a scoreboard update. We have two questions left.
- 38:55Speaker 1: We must say goodbye to Hayden, Van and Chet, who
- 38:58Speaker 1: played valiantly but no longer in the running. Sam has
- 39:02Speaker 1: five points, Randall and Brody have six, and in first
- 39:06Speaker 1: place is Steve with seven points. Two questions. Anybody's game? Man?
- 39:11Speaker 1: I could falter question nine is cooking? That? Listen? If
- 39:17Speaker 1: you'd have called it sooner, I would have been I
- 39:19Speaker 1: was already savoring that point. Oh man, So the topic
- 39:25Speaker 1: is cooking. What coastal American city is famous for its
- 39:29Speaker 1: hot dogs that are served with cream, cheese and sauteed onions?
- 39:35Speaker 1: What coastal American city? What coastal American city is famous
- 39:40Speaker 1: for its hot dogs that are served with cream, cheese
- 39:43Speaker 1: and sauteed onions. Randall looks like he might make up
- 39:46Speaker 1: some ground here. Do you some kind of hot What
- 39:52Speaker 1: does that mean exactly? They just taste great? Isn't this
- 39:58Speaker 1: our second hot dog question? They serve them in places
- 40:02Speaker 1: we had a question about red snappers probably a month ago.
- 40:06Speaker 1: This one, though, is what coastal American city is famous
- 40:10Speaker 1: for its hot dogs that are served with cream cheese.
- 40:13Speaker 1: And this is where I feel the cooking questions wander
- 40:16Speaker 1: way outside the focus of this. How famous? If you
- 40:22Speaker 1: google cream cheese hot dog, every single result is going
- 40:26Speaker 1: to be this. There is a famous There is a
- 40:29Speaker 1: restaurant in town that sells one of these, and it
- 40:32Speaker 1: is called the Blank Dog. It's it's it's the thing.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Is everybody ready the blank Dog? A sere? Yeah? Are
- 40:40Speaker 1: they Randall? Have you had one of these dogs? He's
- 40:44Speaker 1: hints only a few, though, Are they good? Favorite? We're
- 40:48Speaker 1: really helping out the room like that question. We got
- 40:54Speaker 1: a lot going on here. There's a lot on the line,
- 40:56Speaker 1: mind you. It's a tight game. Does everybody have an answer?
- 41:00Speaker 1: I just need to beat Shelby. Shelby an exis three.
- 41:04Speaker 1: We've already surpassed that with Steve's seven and two questions
- 41:08Speaker 1: to go, Brodie? Are you gonna get this one? I
- 41:12Speaker 1: have no idea? Okay, but I'm still thinking it's everybody ready?
- 41:17Speaker 1: M Brody? Nope? God, I'm struggling to see what this
- 41:22Speaker 1: question has to do with anything. Yeah, well, it's about it.
- 41:26Speaker 1: It's a regional preparation, just like we talk about lobster
- 41:29Speaker 1: rolls from wild game recipe coming up has plenty of
- 41:38Speaker 1: hot dog and saucage recipes. All right, what rodya ready?
- 41:43Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Steve, what's
- 41:47Speaker 1: that say? Saying Philly, Dan saying Philly, Hagen saying Coney Island.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Brodie sang Boston, Sam saying Atlantic City Chester. You're saying Seattle.
- 41:58Speaker 1: Randall sang Seattle. The correct answer is Seattle to Handle
- 42:03Speaker 1: and Chester. I lived in Seattle, dude. I think that
- 42:10Speaker 1: says more about you than Seattle. Here's why the sea
- 42:14Speaker 1: was invented in Pioneer Square in the late nineteen eighties.
- 42:17Speaker 1: It became a late night staple for food carts to
- 42:20Speaker 1: sell to bargoers, becoming the unofficial drunk food of the
- 42:24Speaker 1: Emerald City. The hot dog is typically a Polish sausage
- 42:27Speaker 1: that split down the middle and served on a toasted
- 42:30Speaker 1: pretzel bun. Did you have a Seattle dog in Seattle? Yes?
- 42:36Speaker 1: Did you get it like off a food cart at
- 42:38Speaker 1: a ballgame, a restaurant? What was going on? I don't remember.
- 42:41Speaker 1: They all kind of run together. I've had a couple
- 42:46Speaker 1: of them, and not my favorite. I'm more of a
- 42:48Speaker 1: traditional mustard ketchup onions relish guy and Phil as our
- 42:53Speaker 1: person from the Pacific Northwest. What's your familiarity with a
- 42:56Speaker 1: Seattle But it's the best hot dog I've ever had,
- 42:58Speaker 1: was a Seattle dog. Really just it's so indulgent, it's
- 43:02Speaker 1: it's it's really really good. And do you just do
- 43:04Speaker 1: like a classic cream cheese and sautet on? That's it?
- 43:08Speaker 1: Pull of sausage, cream cheese? What brody? Right now? The
- 43:11Speaker 1: pretzel bun is baked too Chester? Did you know that?
- 43:15Speaker 1: Are you just guessing? Did you cheat off Randall? I didn't.
- 43:18Speaker 1: I didn't cheat, Okay. I I was gonna guess Portland
- 43:22Speaker 1: or Seattle because I feel like I've just heard that
- 43:24Speaker 1: like Portland dog, Seattle dog, and I just guess Seattle.
- 43:28Speaker 1: I know what's funny, man, I put down all side
- 43:30Speaker 1: of that, put down an on a coastal. But yeah,
- 43:37Speaker 1: I was. I was thinking of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia tea
- 43:42Speaker 1: party man, and Philadelphia cream cheese. When I saw the
- 43:47Speaker 1: two Philly answers, I'm like, man, I am pretty ignorant
- 43:49Speaker 1: about that part of the country, not knowing that. I
- 43:52Speaker 1: don't even want to. I got to I got to
- 43:55Speaker 1: focused on cream cheese and not focused the same, Phil.
- 43:59Speaker 1: We have one question left, where to folks stand, it's
- 44:03Speaker 1: a good one. We've got Brody with six points and
- 44:07Speaker 1: tied up in first place. Now are Randall and Steve
- 44:10Speaker 1: question ten? The topic is still you need these other
- 44:14Speaker 1: two to get it wrong and you to get it right.
- 44:17Speaker 1: Oh that's this. Next great question comes to is via
- 44:20Speaker 1: Kevin Noak. If you have a question you think is
- 44:23Speaker 1: right from meat Eater Trivia, you can send it to
- 44:25Speaker 1: triviat to meat eater dot com. Kevin, I'm gonna kick
- 44:27Speaker 1: your ass. I don't get this right. How many states
- 44:31Speaker 1: east of the Rocky Mountains have huntable populations of mule deer?
- 44:38Speaker 1: Come on? Is that? What's to come on? You don't
- 44:41Speaker 1: like the questions? Does the state have to have? What
- 44:44Speaker 1: if the state has Rocky Mountains in it? Well, then
- 44:47Speaker 1: that wouldn't be east of the Rocky Mountains. Yeah, would now,
- 44:51Speaker 1: so the entire state has the east of the Rocky Mountains? Yes?
- 44:56Speaker 1: Probably looking for how many states east of the Rocky
- 44:59Speaker 1: Mountains have huntable populations of mule deer? Just looking for
- 45:05Speaker 1: a number, Just looking for a number. Brody, how do
- 45:13Speaker 1: you feel about this one? You need pretty good? As
- 45:15Speaker 1: my definition of east of the Rocky Mountains is correct? Okay?
- 45:19Speaker 1: This this takes quite a bit of knowledge about where
- 45:22Speaker 1: mule deer live, where the Rocky Mountains are, etc. Good
- 45:25Speaker 1: on you if you get this right again? How many
- 45:27Speaker 1: states east? This is more like? This is more of
- 45:31Speaker 1: a tiebreaker, Buddy, it's more of a tiebreaker. I think.
- 45:36Speaker 1: I think you'll be surprised at how well folks do
- 45:38Speaker 1: with this question. Randall, how do you feel about this one?
- 45:44Speaker 1: I think I'm plus or minus three, okay, I'm cluser
- 45:47Speaker 1: minus one okay. And Brody thinks he has it. This
- 45:50Speaker 1: is shaping up for maybe a three way tiebreaker. Does
- 45:53Speaker 1: everybody have an answer? Listen, man, it should be like
- 45:57Speaker 1: name blank, number of them. You can't expect people just
- 46:02Speaker 1: to have this right. We'll see. I think it's reasonable.
- 46:09Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? Did you just change a
- 46:13Speaker 1: da chang? Okay, Hayden's changing his. It's non consequential. I'm
- 46:20Speaker 1: out go ahead and reveal your answer. We have Steve
- 46:23Speaker 1: saying five, Dance saying four, Hayden sang four, Brody sang six,
- 46:30Speaker 1: Sam saying five, Chester saying four. Randall saying, is that
- 46:34Speaker 1: a four or nine? That's a four? From five, Randy
- 46:39Speaker 1: saying four. We have a correct answer in the room.
- 46:43Speaker 1: It's six sending us. I think that's what you means.
- 46:54Speaker 1: States extend from Canada to Mexico. They are North Dakota,
- 46:58Speaker 1: South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. Mule deer are
- 47:02Speaker 1: occasionally reported in states like Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Missouri,
- 47:07Speaker 1: but they are often young bucks that wandered in from
- 47:10Speaker 1: neighboring states to the west. Man, if I wrote down
- 47:13Speaker 1: Oklahoma over, did you did you not think they had
- 47:17Speaker 1: mule deer? Did you forget about Oklahoma? Did you think
- 47:19Speaker 1: I went there? I didn't think they had a season? Yeah,
- 47:22Speaker 1: they do. So we're going to a three way tiebreaker.
- 47:25Speaker 1: Played the drops. We're not done make any sense at all. First,
- 47:33Speaker 1: you're lad, you can be second, you can be third, fourth,
- 47:37Speaker 1: held fifth, Phil, When do you get a minute here
- 47:41Speaker 1: where you do that? I don't like that one. Don't
- 47:43Speaker 1: like that's that's ricky boy, I know, but it's like
- 47:45Speaker 1: too much of the same thing. It's just a long passage. Yeah,
- 47:48Speaker 1: I thought I'm out of Medley. Yeah, sure, you sent
- 47:50Speaker 1: me some ideas. Brodie, Steve and Randall going to our
- 47:55Speaker 1: tiebreaking question with seven correct ants, I never liked it.
- 48:00Speaker 1: The tiebreaker will be a numerical question. Whoever is closest
- 48:04Speaker 1: to the correct answer will be declared the winner. The
- 48:07Speaker 1: tiebreaking topic is hunting. What is the last year that
- 48:13Speaker 1: ESPN ran hunting content on their network? Brody with a
- 48:17Speaker 1: quick answer almost, I'm just getting my pen ready. You
- 48:23Speaker 1: will not catch Brodie sleep again. The tabbig is hunting.
- 48:30Speaker 1: What is the last year that ESPN ran hunting content
- 48:34Speaker 1: on their network? The only answers that matter are Randall, Brody,
- 48:38Speaker 1: and Steve, but the rest of the room can play
- 48:40Speaker 1: along if they'd like. Looking for the last year that
- 48:45Speaker 1: ESPN had hunting content. Brody, how do you feel about that?
- 48:50Speaker 1: Guess I think I'm close? Okay, Randall? See this one's
- 48:55Speaker 1: weird though, because there's no like decimal point shit to
- 48:58Speaker 1: like fall back on. We've done years the four. We
- 49:00Speaker 1: need to go to a second tiebreaker. We can do that.
- 49:03Speaker 1: Oh man, I can go on all day, like to
- 49:08Speaker 1: play the clip you don't like twice? This is like
- 49:10Speaker 1: regular programmed. Yeah, like the last time ESPN one or two?
- 49:15Speaker 1: Are we including the spin off sets? The whole net ocho?
- 49:19Speaker 1: Now they just cut it at if you ain't first
- 49:21Speaker 1: your last cut and then like going to other stuff.
- 49:25Speaker 1: That's funny, Steve, I'm worried you're not focused on our
- 49:29Speaker 1: tiebreaking question here. Okay, you come up with an answer yet? Yeah,
- 49:32Speaker 1: Okay for the last year that they ran hunting content, Honey,
- 49:38Speaker 1: Espn Randall, do you have an answer? I've seen you
- 49:42Speaker 1: change it more times. Now I'm working on my third
- 49:45Speaker 1: I gotta do a little at it. Okay, Yeah, is
- 49:51Speaker 1: everybody ready? Really, go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 49:56Speaker 1: have Dan saying nineteen eighty seven, Hayden saying two thousand
- 50:00Speaker 1: in five, Sam saying two thousand and eleven. Chester, you're
- 50:03Speaker 1: saying two thousand and seven, and the answers that man.
- 50:07Speaker 1: We have Brody saying two thousand and eight, Randall saying
- 50:09Speaker 1: two thousand and one, Steve saying two thousand and five.
- 50:13Speaker 1: One of you is within two years of the correct answer.
- 50:17Speaker 1: The right answer is two thousand and ten, making Brody
- 50:23Speaker 1: Brodie came through Clutch with the six mule deer States
- 50:29Speaker 1: and then got within two years and he was saying
- 50:32Speaker 1: it can't be done. He shouldn't have down. You know,
- 50:37Speaker 1: never never, never give up Steve. I was so distracted
- 50:43Speaker 1: by the fact that I was gonna lose I didn't
- 50:45Speaker 1: even think of someone to donate to. You know what
- 50:47Speaker 1: Brody exemplified right there? My my, uh, Maxim this is uh,
- 50:54Speaker 1: be a pessimist in your head, but an optimist in
- 50:57Speaker 1: your actions. It's right, but that feel like he was
- 51:00Speaker 1: being a pessimist in his action as well. Started answering.
- 51:06Speaker 1: He got everything right from that moment on. Now, while
- 51:08Speaker 1: you think of a donation, Brody, let me tell you this.
- 51:10Speaker 1: ESPN announced in a twenty ten press release that was
- 51:13Speaker 1: cutting all outdoor television except for bass tournaments by the
- 51:16Speaker 1: end of the year. The last hunting show I can
- 51:19Speaker 1: find that aired on ESPN was Bill Jordan's Real Tree Outdoors,
- 51:22Speaker 1: where David Blann goes on a once in a lifetime
- 51:25Speaker 1: elk hunt in Wyoming. That episode aired on December nineteen,
- 51:29Speaker 1: twenty ten. We made it once in a lifetime I
- 51:32Speaker 1: think it was, you know, a tag that was like
- 51:34Speaker 1: took him sixteen years of drowne. He hired an outfit
- 51:37Speaker 1: or something like that. Brodie, what happens next is you
- 51:40Speaker 1: get to choose where the five hundred dollars donation goes
- 51:43Speaker 1: So what's it going to be. I'm gonna do the
- 51:45Speaker 1: Mule Deer Foundation. Who because he came in on that
- 51:48Speaker 1: mule question. Besides, besides it, ten, what else do you
- 51:53Speaker 1: like about the Mule Deer Foundation? Oh, habitat work, access,
- 51:57Speaker 1: hunter advocacy, all that stuff. Well, Brody, amazing game, Brody,
- 52:01Speaker 1: come back for the an I want it, want us deserved,
- 52:05Speaker 1: I'll hand it out. Hell of all. Come back. Well done, Brody.
- 52:08Speaker 1: Join us the next time for more Meat Eater Trivia,
- 52:11Speaker 1: the only game show where conservation always wins. I'm not
- 52:14Speaker 1: wearing this hat anymore. I'm not hot, but it's it's
- 52:19Speaker 1: given other people answer. That's why
