- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Hey everybody, welcome to Cheesy Popcorn.
- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: My name is Annavar and I'm here with my coal hoard.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: Chris Miles.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: Chris Miles.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_00]: Chris Miles.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: Chris Miles.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not smiles.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's Miles.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: But it's Miles.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_00]: Miles.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_00]: Smile is the longest word in the English dictionary.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_00]: You know that.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because there's a, there's a mile between us.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: You guys can use that out there.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, Chris and I, our last show, we were a previewing movie that we were both looking forward to seeing, I believe.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: And we actually got to go see it together.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: with other people, by the way.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: Chris is wife and my wife are both there too.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: I was wondering if you were going to say that.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: And so we also had some other special guests as well too.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: We had a special guest.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_00]: We had a family time.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, we had Andrew who is one of the artists you had on your show and you saw, we had his lovely lovely wife, uh, fall.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: Autumn.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: Well, fall.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: Fallers are nickname, but they call her Autumn.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: And then your lovely wife, uh, Dawn.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: She's my girlfriend.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry, your lovely girlfriend.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's okay.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: Dawn.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: Which is why you're an early riser.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: Because you wake up with Don.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, thank you for censoring that.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_00]: I appreciate it.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_00]: I'd like that.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: And my wife Doris, who is a huge fan of these kinds of movies.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yes, absolutely.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the nice thing about Don though is that we never have to watch movies with John Travolta and Olivia Newton John.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: Really?
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: Because Don takes grease out of the way.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, wow.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: There you go.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: You're welcome.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: Pretty good.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: Hang on.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: So the reason why we're doing all of these puns if you will that's what we used to call them now their dad jokes Is it because people can't say the word puns?
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: Is that what it is?
- 1:43[SPEAKER_01]: Is there some weird connotation to the word puns?
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: I have a problem with most words
- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think we, here's what we did at society.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: We've decided there's a thin line between certain things.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: And the reality is it's a thick line.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: It's a very thick line.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: And most people who cross that line are people who don't care that there's a line at all.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, that's absolutely true.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: And the rest of us know where the thickness is.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: And we write it.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: Especially if you're a comic or you're a... If you're an entertainment person, you write that line a little bit.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: And that's okay, especially in comedy.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: Comedy is supposed to.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: And who said this?
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: There was a comic, a famous comic, and I can't think of who was, who said, comedy is supposed to offend.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: If you're doing it right, it's supposed to offend somebody.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_00]: And it's supposed to make you think?
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's supposed to make you aware, and it's supposed to make you laugh.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: Those are the three things comedy is supposed to do.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: And that gets us right to naked gun, because I think it did all three.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: We had talked about this offline before about Liam Neeson and my whole thoughts about how he was going to be and stepping into the roles and stepping into the shoes and filling in.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: But he really didn't do that.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like, he was his, he was the son.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: But, drop in.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: So it made things a little bit interesting.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'll get into more things when we get to like my scoring and that kind of stuff because there were a couple of things that I went, huh?
- 3:10[SPEAKER_01]: But I think, I think there's one that we agree on.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: But overall, yes, absolutely, I loved the movie.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: I thoroughly enjoyed it.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_01]: It was a great time.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: It was a great, in the, in the Yiddish language, there's this term called, Mishpoka.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_01]: which is like the whole family kind of thing.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's the whole gang.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: So we had like a mishpocha night as well.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's because I was trying to figure out what they call like a triple date, but I you know, because like what double dated doctor is a dot right and then you know, I don't know what triple was.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm just gonna say it was a mishpocha date because that makes more sense and all the people that are Jewish out there you're welcome.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, I think that's in the Polish community too, Miss Polka.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_00]: Miss Polka.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, that's you was a little ribbon and everything.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think last year's winner was Betty Betchi won't.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think so.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I thought so.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no, it's Betchi won't ski.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: That's what she won't ski.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: My fault.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: You ski.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: Every ski.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: We all ski.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: And then we're going to tobogga.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: So there we go.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: So here's my, I gave it a laid out of a ten.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: After the last night, I got a chance to review it in my head.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: There were, there were some things that didn't work.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: I, I think Liam did a really good job.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I think I hope he does more, like Leslie did.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like a two and a half, right?
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think I think I don't know if they're going to call a two and a half, but I think or I think he should do more because I think he's going to grow into the role.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: The tough part if your naked gun fan is that Leslie Nielsen was born to do that role.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: and Liam has to develop it because he didn't have what he missed, I think, was the Leslie Nielsen persona that he doesn't really know he's doing stupid stuff.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: To him, he's doing it right, even though everybody around him sees it.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: Liam isn't there yet, but I think he can get there.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's got the right attitude to get there.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: I thought the script was okay.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: There were some moments that the writing I didn't think was as polished as the originals either, but there were some really good moments in there.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think you already know my favorite one, but I don't want to give it away.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: The directing I thought was good.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: I thought the pace was good was well done.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: There were a couple slow moments that I didn't care for, but overall compared to the original.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: And again, it's not a sequel.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody know the saying a sequel.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: This is a reboot.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: You know what that means when you reboot, you know, it's in a sequel.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_01]: It made you kick him in the knee and set it a button.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: That's awesome.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: My one didn't like.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, actually didn't like.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: Pamela Anderson.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: Why I just I want to see for on the second part and I like Pamela Anderson by the way, I think she's she's done some some good stuff I Think what she was trying like barbed wire Like barbed wire.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I love you you're missing the face right now folks It's the only thing we can't do an applied guy, but anyway go ahead.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think that she saw the role and tried to play it as, and if you're a Mel Brooks fan, you'll understand this, as Madeline Condis in high anxiety.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: And that was the wrong persona for this character, for this role.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_00]: Priscilla Presley played it really, really well because she was never an actress.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: So when she got this role, she was like, just her.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_00]: And nothing against Priscilla, I think she's a very intelligent woman, obviously, but she played the role perfectly.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think that Pamela should have tried to imitate Priscilla, but she didn't get the character correct to be the opposite of Liam, I thought.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it should have been, and I can't think of who else might have done it.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_00]: maybe a Katherine Heigel, maybe could have done it, or I mean obviously Madeleine Khan would have been in my opinion, a perfect for this one, but that was my one absolute dislike.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: I liked that there was a cameo of Priscilla.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: I was gonna ask you if there's an ask if you saw that but yeah, but it wasn't enough.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: No, she was on the screen for like point two seconds.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: And that's that's where did the record?
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: And there was no reaction from her like she was just it was just like here is you were a bugatory camera cameo that we need to do to get her in the movie and that was it like there was she had no reaction and where they put it in the movie she could have had a reaction like shot and I was like oh you missed that one
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: And I thought the sublime stuff in the background like the code case files in the original when they had those kinds of background things like Mel Brooks likes to do a lot of that too.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: They gave you time to absorb it and this one and I won't give away anything but some of the subtle sublime stuff they did it so quickly that you could have missed it because you listened to the dialogue and they're all most of them are visuals.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: where Mel Brooks gives you the camera shot, where somebody's walking, like Gregory Heinz is walking in history of the world, and you can see the background, even though they're talking, the background is obvious, and it's up there long enough so that you could see that it says five and ten with the V and the X. Those kinds of things.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: So those are two short.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_00]: I absolutely love Danny Houston as at the bad guy.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_00]: You need to add a yellow stone.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's great in yellow stones.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: He's been a lot of good stuff.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: Wait, what I didn't care for was his name.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: I'm thinking.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, okay.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is naked gun.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: You talking to his character name.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: Character.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: Not his name.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, my Ken.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: Well, no control of that.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: Papschmier.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: Was naked gun villain.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_00]: You can't get a better villain named in that for this kind of a movie.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: Richard Kane.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: Just kind of nothing to me.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I was waiting for all the jokes that could come out of that and not even like an able joke was there.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: And I was just like, wow, okay.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you shorten it, I suppose.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't know.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I'll say one more positive.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: Love that they continued the freeze frame, but at the end.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: From the TV series.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: Because that was one of, and when I watched the TV series, for those of you who are old enough, there was a TV series first.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: And they always ended with a freeze frame, which they stole, by the way, from the old-binary Miller show.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_00]: But they ended with a real freeze frame.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_00]: what these guys would make a gun.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody waited for the freeze frame because they want to see which of the characters in the show would move first.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_00]: So I love that.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_00]: I really, really did not care for the aisles.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: I will see.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: I like the fact that they brought the owl in as a message from his dad.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_00]: But from there on in, which is even for me.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: who is a real kid at heart and loves, you know, Mel Brooks and these kind of movies that not done well in my opinion.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not given anything away by saying that.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: No, but I agree with you.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: That seemed like it was like they wanted to do something and they just threw it in there to do that.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm kind of like, and I think you could have done that a little bit better.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: So as far as I go, I would give it like a seven and a half out of time.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: Because first of all, the Pamela Anderson thing did not work for me at all.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: On multiple levels, I felt like she was forcing it the entire time, like she was trying to be funny.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: And as you know from being a comic and as I know from, you know, even just in radio, when you try to be funny, it doesn't come off as funny at all.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: It comes off as stupid.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: Or it just looks like you're just trying too hard and it's just not working.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_00]: It looks like you're acting.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it looks like you're acting and you don't want that in any sort of media in any way shape or form.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know, I don't know, anyway.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's Andrew.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_01]: Whoa.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, we just got personal.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: Okay then, so move it on, but it's still a great movie.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's one of those that you need to see at least once if not maybe twice.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_01]: And here's why, because what you were talking about is those site gags.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_01]: And now I have in college, I took a couple of different film classes and one of the things our film professor told us was to not focus on the center, but focus on the outer frame because that's how you can get the whole story.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: And unfortunately, when you see a movie the first time, it's hard to do that.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: You want to focus on the action, which is usually the main
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: picture of the center of the picture in any movie.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: But I did catch some of the site gags like the one you were saying, the cold case thing.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: And then a couple other ones as well too.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_01]: And they're greatly, they're well placed.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_01]: I do agree with you.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_01]: I think maybe if there was more of like a camera panning or something like that to emphasize them a little bit more.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: But the script was written in such a way that it played directly center.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_01]: there was no there was no chance with the script to go like left or right or whatever everything was directly centered and I think that's probably why they didn't do some of the camera cuts that they probably should have done to emphasize those psych gags a little bit more but all the comics because they had a whole bunch of comics I won't say what it is but there were a lot of callbacks in a particular running gag yeah that again word you know
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: But overall, like I said, it was a great movie.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: My thing is this.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I think I said this last time, if not, I'm going to say it now.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_01]: Liam Neeson has this breathy dramatic delivery that just is the same thing all the way through.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_01]: And that was what did it for me.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_01]: That's why I gave it a seven and a half because he's in the middle of this long spiel about figuring out who did it and all this kind of stuff.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_01]: And all I could see was taken.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_01]: I have a particular shutter skills and those skills are going to need me to do this and I'm going to do that and he's doing the delivery of this basically breaking down who did what and the whole thing I was just like Liam stopped with the breathy delivery and that's that's what I didn't say that last time but that's what I was insinuating he has this breathy delivery style that sometimes takes you away from what's going on and it almost feels like he's trying to talk and
- 13:13[SPEAKER_01]: and get all of his lines out because he's afraid he's going to lose them.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: Being a director on a couple of different, like, plays the ethical plays and things of that nature.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_01]: One of the things that I would always tell my actors is memorize the lines, but then when you memorize the lines, memorize them backwards.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_01]: right so then you can literally go like okay so this is that line this is that line and you can figure out like what the whole reason for the delivery is because then that way then you don't sound like you're just reciting lines which sometimes is what happens with Liam Neeson I will give naked gun a big plus for this
- 13:47[SPEAKER_01]: Leslie Nielsen, LN, Liam Neeson, LN.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_01]: Did they do that on purpose?
- 13:51[SPEAKER_01]: I would have never thought of that.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_01]: Well, somebody said that to me, I worked today and I was like, hmm, never would have thought about that.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, overall, it's a great flick.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think people who enjoy this kind of humor and I'm about to give away a big spoiler from the movie only because of our audience members.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not really from the movie, it's from our experience.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: So the best part was your wife was sitting next to my girlfriend.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: And there was some commentary from your wife going back and forth, because your wife clearly is not a sophomore, a humor kind of person, which this movie is full of.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_01]: And she reads, she bends over, or turns over to my girlfriend on.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, watch this.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to laugh really loud.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: And literally as soon as she said that, you're over there in the back on,
- 14:35[SPEAKER_01]: the best part of the movie for me was that now I realize it's not a spoiler because you guys probably would have the same experience but it was hilarious because she was doing commentary throughout the movie about certain things she was like oh my god because this movie get any dumber oh my god oh they're gonna do this now see I just predicted that like it's just the commentary from her was hilarious and it don't think she realized that like she was actually speaking a lot or not for the people like the other people in our road to hero so
- 15:02[SPEAKER_01]: That was the best part, but all in all like I said, the money's great.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_00]: I give her a for credit for coming out because it really was she or she knew it was in her kind of mood.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but she came out and I think we had a good time and she finally got to meet Don, which yes, yes, so you're girlfriend that my wife was a what are they called those
- 15:23[SPEAKER_00]: Galpel?
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_00]: She was like the invisible bride.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's what she, yeah, imaginary wife.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_01]: That's what she said.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_00]: So it's always kind of fun to have someone like that, too.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_00]: When you go see a movie, who isn't necessarily enamored with it and can be a little bit more upfront and honest about how stupid it is.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_00]: Because that's what co-bear told Liam Neeson.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_00]: We've had him on the show.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_00]: First thing he said is I'm going to give you the biggest compliment.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_00]: I can give you about this movie.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's really, really stupid.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_00]: And Liam needs them, so thank you.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: I can't do thank you.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you, yes.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: I can't do this, but I'm going to take a look at the skills.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see this.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_00]: Then go see Taken, I think.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there you go.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, wash all the naked gun out of your mouth and eyes and go back to his original role.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_01]: There you go.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not sure if he's going to do another one.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: He actually co-bear, ask them.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_00]: about it.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you saw the cobertio Liam.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_01]: He said, I did catch the interview.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_01]: I was I was surprised.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he was going to say yes.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_01]: He was going to do another one.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't say he was going to do it, but he did say when he got the call, they said, we want to redo a reboot of naked gun.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_00]: And he said, I said, I'm watching.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_00]: They told me how much and I said, I'll do it.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_01]: So I guess the lesson there is if it's enough money, he'll come back.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm with him on that one.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there you go.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: And speaking of with enough money, what to stuff that's coming out this coming week.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: So a couple of great movies coming out this week.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_01]: We've got weapons, which is a horror flick, which has been like overly advertised for like the last couple of months.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of one of those and Thanos is in it just by the way, Josh Brolin, right?
- 16:57[SPEAKER_01]: So it's one of those, I'm going to be honest, it's one of those, I'm going to wait for cable, because it's not, you know, whatever.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_01]: The other one is freakier Friday, talk about illusionary friends and things of that nature.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_01]: Do we need a sequel?
- 17:10[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think so.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_00]: I like the first one.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_00]: I love Jamie Lee Curtis, I think she's great.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_00]: She's she's a great and all of the Halloween movies.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, and trading places.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: No, yes.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to make it.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: Great scene.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_00]: She's a great.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_00]: That she's in.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_00]: In my opinion.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why she's in this movie because she traded places.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_01]: That's why they do it.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: That's what they did that.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_00]: It looks like a fun movie.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's one of those escape movies.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_00]: And it's a good date movie.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_00]: It'd be a good date movie.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: I might go see that.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_00]: Bad guys too.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: bad guys too that's that's one of those that's kind of still lingering in the background I think I think that might be something I'm gonna go see why what to see that when my grandkids because you did see it I saw first one oh first one the first one okay I'm thinking I'm just gonna sit through this and get through it right and I loved it I love the first one so I will go see the second one at some point okay
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: And then have to go more to Yes, then release and I think that's what we're going to do Netflix.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's what we're going to do next week because there aren't really any movies that we're really like in the theaters.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_01]: So I think we're going to give our review Okay, well, yeah, maybe I'll break the whole Netflix passcode thing and I'll give you mine for a moment.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there you go.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's the kind of friend I am
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: Wow and speaking of that and this is no joke, but how about we talk about some of our favorite comedy movies since we did a review of naked gun?
- 18:37[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly what I thought rather than because you know we've been doing like five movies at a time and yes, we're gonna run on a movie pretty quick.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_00]: So I think top comedy.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_02]: Okay
- 18:49[SPEAKER_00]: My top comedy's never going to change.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: It was something really incredible.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_01]: So for the listeners, we're only going to do one for this category.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_01]: And then we're going to do like our favorite favorite favorite for that category.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_00]: So you want to go first?
- 19:07[SPEAKER_01]: I will definitely go first because I think if you got the memo you may understand about the red swing line stapler that I'm talking about because it's a movie that features Jennifer Aniston almost before actually I think the movie came out I think I think the movie came out when she was just becoming known and she was in friends
- 19:28[SPEAKER_01]: But the movie that I'm talking about is office space.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_01]: Because I think to me, and I guess maybe it's because of a generational thing.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_01]: There are some other great movies out there too.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Blues Brothers, absolutely for sure.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that's one that people are going to like put on the list.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think the real appeal of office space is that there are so many different characters in the movie.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_01]: And let's be honest here, and I'm sure they probably will never say this or even mention this out loud.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_01]: But the people who came up with the show, the office, I have a feeling, honestly, that they were inspired by office space.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_00]: the office was inspired by BBC.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, but I'm saying that when it was BBC, I think they had seen office space and they decided.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_01]: Well, because it is a British, we'll call it a comedy TV series, but yeah, but we stole that from the press.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_01]: Well, and I'm a bunch of other things as well, too.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_01]: So, but yeah, office space absolutely top number one, young Frankenstein and Blues Brothers would give get honorable mention for me, because
- 20:29[SPEAKER_01]: And they're both of those movies are in a class all of their own.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_01]: You've got Mel Gibson, Mel Brooks.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_01]: Mel Gibson doesn't appear in any of these movies, by the way.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, you've got Mel Brooks, who, I mean, when you think comedy, he has got to be as far as comedy writers, directors.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: He has to be at the top, for sure.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_01]: And young Frankenstein, totally awesome, filled entirely in black and white, to kind of give that whole monster movie thing.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm I'm going to leave a little younger and I'm going with my crowd and I'm going to say office space as the number one best comedy of all time and you can disagree with me.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: That's totally that's totally fine.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's my opinion.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_01]: We all have opinions.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_01]: We're all entitled to them.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: They're like other things and we won't mention that word.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_01]: So there we go.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_00]: So what's your?
- 21:12[SPEAKER_00]: How did you do in math at school?
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: Because I'm pretty sure we said I won.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_01]: Well, right, but I mentioned three, but I gave on-row mentioned to two because I think, honestly, I think going one, I think going one is not enough.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think we need to have an on-row mentioned because like, you can't, well, maybe certain genres you can actually die on number one, like status, but I think there's another movie right behind it that you're like, you know what this is just as good as.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_01]: in some other ways.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's what you have a settlement in a wedding.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_01]: Or sometimes, too.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_01]: But that's a whole other story.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: Who was it that said, uh, if he's the best man, why you may run this guy?
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think that was from writing crushers, but I don't know.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_00]: I don't remember as a comedian.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_00]: And at any rate, I'm going to give you my honorable first.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_00]: So my honorablements will be liar liar.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, okay.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_00]: And, and I'm still disappointed that Jim Kerry didn't get an ask or not.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: I thought Jim Carrey played pretty much every emotion.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, he could not have done any more incredible physical, verbal, emotional humor.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_00]: in that movie.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_00]: The movie runs the gauntlet.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's fast-paced.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_00]: There's so much stuff.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: I can't imagine how much he improv.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_00]: But he was great in that and never got a nod.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, a lot of money.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_00]: But he should have got an Oscar nod.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_01]: Probably why he didn't get a nod.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_00]: But he's not my number one.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_01]: Now, Liar Liar is a great movie.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_01]: If we weren't top five, then it would have been in my top five for sure.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_01]: I just want to punch those.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_01]: Well, no.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_00]: The outtakes of that movie are holding some of the summaries of people.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_00]: You got it.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_00]: You got it.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry, but Liar Liar is a funnier than four is gone.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_00]: But my number one movie, and it's the only movie that I went to my wife when we just talked about.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_00]: And we were sitting next to each other.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: She's real, by the way.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_00]: Huh?
- 23:12[SPEAKER_01]: She's real, by the way.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, she is.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: About a quarter of the way through the movie that I'm going to mention, she got up and moved to another, not another seat, another row.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_00]: That's how much I was laughing in.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_00]: I don't generally laugh out loud at movies.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like I was laughing out.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like what you saw at naked gun, multiply that time to twenty five.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, because I thought you laughed out loud pretty much throughout that movie.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_00]: War of the roses.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_00]: War of the roses.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_00]: With Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, it and it directed by the very amazingly funny and gifted Danny DeVito, who I got to meet by the way right after the movie came out, which was just a joy for me to meet him.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: And anyway, I think it's considered a black comedy.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's not considered a comedy, it's considered black comedy because there's some violence in it, and that's why they call them black comedies.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_00]: But it's not violence like glory violence, kind of like you might get in some movies.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's really a well-made movie, I think, throughout the whole thing.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_00]: And in fact, I want to see it with three other couples, and I was the only one who sided with the Kathleen Turner character.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_00]: All seven other people, men and women, sided with the Michael Douglas character, which then I don't want to give anything away for people who haven't seen it.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_00]: If you haven't seen it, go rent war the roses.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_00]: Sit down, get some popcorn, and be ready to laugh.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_00]: You're butt off.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_00]: And if you watch it, and you didn't like it, put it in the comments and tell me why, because it is my number one all-time comment.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen it several times in a laugh at the same spots as hard.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_00]: Well, not as hard.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_00]: The hardest I've ever laughed was the first time, but when I see it again, I still laugh.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's just well written, well directed, Danny the Vito did a, that was a director, old debut, that a fabulous job, and I told him that when I met him in the men's room at ABC, when he was on to your pro show, Michael Douglas, I got to meet him in the men's room.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: Got his autograph?
- 25:18[SPEAKER_01]: That's an interesting place to meet somebody.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_00]: And then he went back to the Oprah Studio to the show, and my guess is that he leaned into Michael Douglas's, is that you're not going to believe what just happened to me.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm five, five, and Danny DeVito comes up to about my shoulder.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_00]: So he's much shorter.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_00]: Four, nine, something like that.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_00]: And coming out of the stall, as he did, seeing me standing there, kind of like surprise, and I explained that I worked at ABC, and just saw where we talked a little bit about the, it's quick, but we talked about where the world says, just saw it.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_00]: I thought the director will debut amazing.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_00]: I told him my wife wouldn't sit next to me because of it.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_00]: And then I said, could I get your autograph?
- 25:57[SPEAKER_00]: And he said, sure, and I gave him a little blue card and a marker.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_00]: And he said, what's your name?
- 26:02[SPEAKER_00]: I said, Annover and he said, what?
- 26:05[SPEAKER_00]: which I get a lot, and gave me his autograph very nice, shook my hand, after he washed it, by the way.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_02]: I was gonna ask.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I checked.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_00]: And then he went out to the studio to do the opera show, and never, I watched the show because I was upstairs.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_00]: Never mentioned it during the show.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm pretty sure you mentioned it to Michael Douglas at some point.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_00]: He's crazy guy, I came down and got me in the men's room.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's definitely one of those, I could definitely see that happening, like, as an aside for sure.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_00]: And then you probably said, but on a good note,
- 26:34[SPEAKER_00]: He loved the movie.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_00]: So that's mine.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_00]: War of the roses.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's a great movie.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_00]: I've told so many people to watch it.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody I've told has enjoyed at different levels.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_00]: I've yet to find anybody who has enjoyed it as much as I have so far.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_00]: but I haven't found anybody who's enjoying Mr. Mughal as much as me either so.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think you will either.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think there are people out there who are just not at my level when it comes to comedy.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_01]: They're blinded.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_00]: They're blinded.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_01]: For sure.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_00]: So that's my comedy number one.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_01]: All right for all the time and no war of any roses of any kind here today on the show for for that and you know it's a great movie I I saw I think when I was let's see eighty nine is when it came out so I would have been thirteen or fourteen and I think I saw it a couple years after that or like when I it was one of those that I know I didn't see it in the movie theater, but I know I saw it like we probably rented it like a blockbuster probably or something like that when it came out and
- 27:36[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was great.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I still think it's a great movie.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't put it in my top ten, but I would say it's in the top twenty for sure.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I know.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_00]: Great.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know what, apparently I disappoint you a lot.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_01]: So there we go.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_01]: But hey, that's what it's all about us having our own opinions and you listening to the show and enjoying it.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: So we would you think totally appreciate that.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's absolutely, let us know your comments.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, thank you to all of our fans and supporters as well.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_01]: You have made us the number two rated show here on the rise network, which is by the way the only way you can hear this.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: So thank you to the rise network as well.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_00]: which is also where your other show is.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_01]: New I'm music roll comes out every Friday.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_01]: This show comes out every Thursday.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_00]: So when I call you dad with which I do which my son comes out on Tuesdays comes out at some point.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_00]: I have a very little control over that one.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_01]: We're waiting for the pickleball episode.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_00]: We're waiting for the pickleball episode, and it's gonna be fun.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_01]: And there will be no pickles involved.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_00]: There will be pickles, but some balls.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_01]: Two of them.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_01]: So that's the show.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you guys so much.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see you again next week with our review of Happy Gilmour Two.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_00]: Happy Gilmour Two.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll talk about some other stuff as well.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_00]: We'll find another genre to talk about.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_00]: Put comments in what you wanted to talk about, and we'll talk about it.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_01]: There we go.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_01]: That sounds like a great way to end the show.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you guys for listening.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_00]: The end.
