- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome to Jagsam.
- 0:17Speaker 2: I'm Pat Nannie Stevens, Brian Sexton and John Oger are
- 0:20Speaker 2: with me today.
- 0:21Speaker 1: It's Wednesday.
- 0:21Speaker 2: We've had a couple of days to relax and chill
- 0:23Speaker 2: out since that game on Sunday. So while we went
- 0:26Speaker 2: over a lot of issues on Monday, we're gonna try
- 0:28Speaker 2: to assess where things are at today and look forward
- 0:30Speaker 2: to Monday night.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Football. Big thing number one.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Doug isn't down as much as we saw him down
- 0:35Speaker 2: at the game on Sunday. Bounce back on Monday. We
- 0:38Speaker 2: heard from him saying all the right things as usual. Brian,
- 0:41Speaker 2: you've been around a lot of coaches during your day.
- 0:43Speaker 2: What is his mentality telling you?
- 0:45Speaker 3: Well, I understands there's a lot of football left if
- 0:47Speaker 3: you play, there's fifteen games left on the schedule, and
- 0:50Speaker 3: if you want to pull the ripcord here and fire
- 0:54Speaker 3: in Brimstone, not that there's not a place to light
- 0:56Speaker 3: guys up a little bit. You need to be steady, right,
- 1:00Speaker 3: I mean, John, you worked with Tony Dungee, who was
- 1:02Speaker 3: the most level headed, steady gut. When it was time
- 1:05Speaker 3: to go up or to go down, players would listen
- 1:08Speaker 3: to you because you weren't going up and down every week.
- 1:11Speaker 3: So for Doug to come in and to be steady,
- 1:13Speaker 3: which I thought he was in his press availability yesterday,
- 1:16Speaker 3: is a really.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Important sign that they are.
- 1:19Speaker 3: They're circling the wagons, you know, they're putting pieces in
- 1:23Speaker 3: place to have a productive week, to go about fixing
- 1:27Speaker 3: things and not go about breaking things.
- 1:30Speaker 4: Well, I think he said exactly what he should say,
- 1:33Speaker 4: and what's the truth is that they've lost two games
- 1:36Speaker 4: on the last play of each game. He didn't say this,
- 1:40Speaker 4: but both teams are good teams. You clearly can beat
- 1:45Speaker 4: these teams. Had he stood on Monday and you know,
- 1:49Speaker 4: you know, knocked the podium over and thrown things at
- 1:52Speaker 4: the media, what good would.
- 1:54Speaker 1: It have done.
- 1:55Speaker 4: You're not going to win games by behaving differently than
- 1:58Speaker 4: he did.
- 2:00Speaker 1: His issue is.
- 2:03Speaker 4: All they can do right now as a coaching staff
- 2:05Speaker 4: is say, look, make the plays at the key moments.
- 2:11Speaker 1: They have to go do that.
- 2:13Speaker 4: They can do it, but they haven't done it since
- 2:16Speaker 4: last November.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Sure, I think that's part of what makes it so frustrating, right.
- 2:21Speaker 2: A lot of it's self inflicted and at this point
- 2:23Speaker 2: just got to go out and.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Do it better.
- 2:24Speaker 2: So our second big thing today is going to be
- 2:26Speaker 2: trevor turning point. While the coach and the coaching staff
- 2:29Speaker 2: you want to remain level throughout the season.
- 2:31Speaker 1: It saw a little bit of fire out of Trevor.
- 2:32Speaker 2: John We talked about this earlier in the week, But
- 2:34Speaker 2: is this going to be a turning point for Trevor?
- 2:36Speaker 2: Is this what he needed to kind of get him
- 2:38Speaker 2: to that point where it's like, Hey, we need to
- 2:40Speaker 2: be accountable from everybody, not just him. I don't know.
- 2:43Speaker 1: I mean, I I don't know. Was the answer to
- 2:46Speaker 1: your question. Will this be a turning point?
- 2:48Speaker 4: Can this be?
- 2:49Speaker 1: Must it be? Absolutely?
- 2:51Speaker 4: I mean to me, when I was listening to Trevor
- 2:53Speaker 4: Lawrence after the game Sunday, I said, Oh, this is
- 2:57Speaker 4: a kid who's not a kid anymore.
- 2:59Speaker 1: He's grown up. It's his team.
- 3:01Speaker 4: He's had it with a discombobulation, He's had it with
- 3:05Speaker 4: the play clock being at one. When he snaps it,
- 3:08Speaker 4: he knows this has to look different and better.
- 3:11Speaker 1: He knows it's his team.
- 3:12Speaker 4: He knows it's his rear end on the line, his
- 3:14Speaker 4: reputation at stake.
- 3:15Speaker 1: You judge quarterback.
- 3:17Speaker 4: I think he came off the field that day into
- 3:20Speaker 4: the locker room saying you know what, if not now
- 3:24Speaker 4: when this is mine and he has to play better
- 3:26Speaker 4: to back all that up. But yes, I think this
- 3:31Speaker 4: is a watershed moment for Trevor. How it plays out,
- 3:35Speaker 4: I am fascinated to watch this week.
- 3:37Speaker 3: I feel comfortable in saying that if the Jaguars get
- 3:40Speaker 3: this thing turned around right, and we all know the
- 3:42Speaker 3: numbers about teams that start zero to two, you know
- 3:45Speaker 3: their probability making the playoffs is less than ten percent.
- 3:48Speaker 3: But I'll hold fast to the team that I saw
- 3:51Speaker 3: in training camp in the preseason and my belief that
- 3:53Speaker 3: this roster is worthy of being a postseason contender. So
- 3:58Speaker 3: I think if they do that, if they're able to
- 4:01Speaker 3: be in the mix from Thanksgiving until Christmas and be
- 4:05Speaker 3: talking about if this then that right to be in
- 4:07Speaker 3: the playoff scenario, We'll look back at this week and
- 4:11Speaker 3: Sunday postgame as being the turning point, the moment when
- 4:14Speaker 3: things started to change.
- 4:16Speaker 4: Yeah, phrase kay, I'm tired of being sick and tired. Yeah,
- 4:19Speaker 4: I think Trevor's tired of being sick and tired.
- 4:21Speaker 2: I'm tired of us all being sick, club, So this
- 4:23Speaker 2: is good. Our final thing today is going to be
- 4:26Speaker 2: bright spots. We're all going to do our best and
- 4:28Speaker 2: be positive because we are in week three, So let's
- 4:30Speaker 2: do this. What was a bright spot from the game, Brian,
- 4:33Speaker 2: What is one good thing you took out.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Of game two?
- 4:35Speaker 3: Well, all the young guys that you put into situations.
- 4:37Speaker 3: I mean, Brenton Strange was told an hour before the
- 4:42Speaker 3: game began that he was going to be the starting
- 4:44Speaker 3: tight end, which meant that he was going to have
- 4:46Speaker 3: to be an a list option. He was going to
- 4:48Speaker 3: have to make plays for his quarterback, and he did that.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Monterrek Brown had more time John, he had a whole
- 4:53Speaker 3: week to work with Chris Rashard, and what a great
- 4:56Speaker 3: job they did of getting him ready to play. He
- 4:58Speaker 3: played a really good football game perfect. No, we've talked
- 5:02Speaker 3: about young players, young players stepping up and making plays.
- 5:05Speaker 3: The bright spot to me is that there are guys
- 5:08Speaker 3: that you can maneuver around. Abaitre Prince got into lineup,
- 5:12Speaker 3: made a play. There are guys that you could put
- 5:14Speaker 3: in in scenarios and situations that'll allow you to mix
- 5:18Speaker 3: things up. I don't want to say this is a
- 5:20Speaker 3: deep team. They're zeroing too, but there's some depth to
- 5:23Speaker 3: this team. Which will allow the coaches to go to work, and.
- 5:25Speaker 2: I like that.
- 5:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm a broken record. My brightest spot was Trevor
- 5:28Speaker 4: after the game. But I'll go a different direction. Brian
- 5:32Speaker 4: Thomas Junior obviously is a major bright spot. If you
- 5:36Speaker 4: can get this thing going around him, it feels like
- 5:39Speaker 4: you've got a guy who can be in above the
- 5:42Speaker 4: ex as and o's player, and frankly, on this team,
- 5:46Speaker 4: there's still not enough of those.
- 5:47Speaker 1: There's good, good, good players, but.
- 5:49Speaker 4: I don't know that there's game winners, game wreckers everywhere.
- 5:54Speaker 4: He looks like he might be that. It's not vogue
- 5:58Speaker 4: this week to say the offensive line, because they were
- 6:00Speaker 4: ruggles in the running I mean in the passing game.
- 6:02Speaker 4: But this team's running okay. At times it feels like
- 6:07Speaker 4: there's something there, Like when they run, you're not saying,
- 6:10Speaker 4: oh no, this is not gonna be good. So that's
- 6:13Speaker 4: a piece to build on. But I'm kind of grasping
- 6:17Speaker 4: right now.
- 6:17Speaker 2: There are a little bit grassman. We're gonna go over
- 6:19Speaker 2: some more of that. What we are looking forward to
- 6:21Speaker 2: this week for Monday Night Football.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Stay with us as we.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Look around the AFC South sky.
- 6:24Speaker 1: What else is going on in the Division.
- 6:38Speaker 2: For eleven years, dream Finders' Homes I've been proud to
- 6:40Speaker 2: call themselves the official home builder of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Visit dreamfinders homes dot com for all the available inventory
- 6:47Speaker 2: and Go Jags.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Also.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Game this week brought to you by Ticketmaster, the official
- 6:51Speaker 2: ticket marketplace of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Welcome back in to Jagsam.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Today we're gonna talk a little bit about what's been
- 7:00Speaker 2: going on in the NFL as a whole, but also
- 7:02Speaker 2: around the AFC South because obviously the Texans are two no,
- 7:05Speaker 2: but everybody else is own two so and there's a
- 7:07Speaker 2: lot of parody around the league as a whole.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I don't think.
- 7:10Speaker 2: I mean, the Chiefs are obviously still a very good
- 7:12Speaker 2: football team, but everybody else is kind of up for
- 7:14Speaker 2: debate at this point. So let's talk a little bit
- 7:16Speaker 2: about the Titans and the Jets. All the teams that
- 7:18Speaker 2: we're talking about today are opponents for the Jags coming
- 7:23Speaker 2: up in this season. We're going to play the Jets, obviously,
- 7:24Speaker 2: play the Titans twice as well. The Titans kind of
- 7:27Speaker 2: fallen apart a little bit at the end of that game.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Will lev Is turning the football over as coach. Not
- 7:31Speaker 2: too pleased with that effort there. It's kind of similar
- 7:35Speaker 2: to the end of the Jags game against the Browns,
- 7:37Speaker 2: but just seeing that as well. Calvin Bradley had two touchdowns,
- 7:41Speaker 2: a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown. But that's an
- 7:43Speaker 2: opponent we're going to play twice. It's one of those
- 7:46Speaker 2: when you look at if we can get through this
- 7:49Speaker 2: section of the schedule, there are winnable games coming out.
- 7:51Speaker 3: I just the Titans are a team that's in such transition.
- 7:54Speaker 3: I mean, they had played bully ball, cave band style football.
- 7:57Speaker 3: Their identity was wrapped up in Derrick Henry. They still
- 8:00Speaker 3: have a very good lineup of players on defense, led
- 8:03Speaker 3: by Jeffrey Simmons there, but they bring in Brian Callahan,
- 8:07Speaker 3: who was an offensive mind, and they're trying to play
- 8:09Speaker 3: modern style football. They just I don't think they have
- 8:11Speaker 3: the personnel for it at this point in time.
- 8:13Speaker 4: Yeah, they're a young team in transition, and what you
- 8:17Speaker 4: sort of wish with that kind of a team is
- 8:20Speaker 4: you wish you played him in September, because that's usually
- 8:23Speaker 4: when they haven't figured anything out yet. The danger of
- 8:26Speaker 4: a team like Tennessee. First year coach with some ability
- 8:30Speaker 4: is usually in the NFL. Somewhere in those last three
- 8:34Speaker 4: months you hit a little bit of a surge where
- 8:38Speaker 4: all of a sudden, players get it a little bit,
- 8:40Speaker 4: they decide they like playing for this coach, They decide
- 8:42Speaker 4: they want to be there the next year.
- 8:43Speaker 1: So they have a little bit of a surge.
- 8:45Speaker 4: You hope that you don't draw them when they're sort
- 8:48Speaker 4: of feeling good about themselves. Think about like the Gus
- 8:50Speaker 4: Bradley here, the first year of Gus, when this was
- 8:52Speaker 4: not a good team, and yet for that three or
- 8:56Speaker 4: four weeks they were a dangerous team because they believe
- 8:59Speaker 4: that playing some teams with injuries.
- 9:01Speaker 1: So that's where you hope.
- 9:02Speaker 4: If the Titans are going to be a find themselves
- 9:06Speaker 4: team all year, you want to get them at points
- 9:09Speaker 4: where they're not feeling good about themselves and then, and clearly,
- 9:11Speaker 4: right now it seems like such a.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Point not finding themselves going up against the Jaguars, that
- 9:16Speaker 2: would not be great.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Let's look elsewhere. The Colts, who we thought had a
- 9:20Speaker 1: decent roster.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Obviously everything goes through Anthony Richards goes up against the Packers.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Packers playing without Jordan Love.
- 9:26Speaker 1: They ran the ball I.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Think fifty three times something like that. Josh Jacobs top
- 9:30Speaker 2: thirty two carries in that game. And obviously we knew
- 9:33Speaker 2: Green Bay was a good team going into this, but
- 9:35Speaker 2: just being able to adapt to what they're given and
- 9:37Speaker 2: still win a football game hasn't been most impressive to me.
- 9:41Speaker 4: It shows you the Packers are good, a good team
- 9:43Speaker 4: with a little bit of adversity playing at home early
- 9:46Speaker 4: in the year. They just go figure out away and
- 9:48Speaker 4: I kind of think back, boy, I'm aging myself. I
- 9:51Speaker 4: kind of think back to the Jonathan Gunn game. Oh yeah, right,
- 9:53Speaker 4: where oh they can't win this game. That added their
- 9:55Speaker 4: third quarterback, not Jonathan Quinn, Steve Matthews ninety seven.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Yeah, against the Giants.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Well, and came out quarterback was Herd Kai and then
- 10:04Speaker 4: all of a sudden they figured a way to win
- 10:06Speaker 4: the game because they're the better team in that situation.
- 10:09Speaker 4: I think that's what happened in Green Bay. This is
- 10:10Speaker 4: a team that once they get their quarterback back, will
- 10:13Speaker 4: be a top seven, top eighteen. And the Colts with
- 10:18Speaker 4: Richardson until he proves otherwise, you're a big play, inconsistent
- 10:24Speaker 4: team until he shows you that he's ready not to
- 10:28Speaker 4: be that.
- 10:29Speaker 3: I will say from what I saw of that game,
- 10:32Speaker 3: losing to Forest Buckner, who left with a pretty severe
- 10:35Speaker 3: ankle spring really gutted the middle of that Colts defense
- 10:39Speaker 3: and allowed the Packers to just keep hammering it away.
- 10:43Speaker 3: But when you've got a guy like Jonathan Taylor, and
- 10:48Speaker 3: when you've got guys on defense and they love this
- 10:51Speaker 3: lot too, lot to the kid that comes from UCLA,
- 10:53Speaker 3: if they can get to Forest Buckner back in the
- 10:55Speaker 3: middle of their defense, again, it's all gonna go through
- 10:58Speaker 3: Anthony Richardson. Is he going to be right to stand
- 11:00Speaker 3: in the pocket and deliver the ball?
- 11:02Speaker 1: I get it.
- 11:02Speaker 3: Everyone is dazzled by that incredible throw he made against
- 11:05Speaker 3: the Texans an opening day, But that's so far out
- 11:08Speaker 3: of the line of what's normal for a quarterback. He's
- 11:11Speaker 3: got to develop into the guy who can stand there
- 11:14Speaker 3: and deliver the ball because that's the way the game
- 11:16Speaker 3: is played these days.
- 11:17Speaker 4: Yeah, you have to be a series a series player
- 11:19Speaker 4: in this league, not just a highlight player.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:22Speaker 4: I think Anthony Richardson has the capability of being a
- 11:24Speaker 4: series a series guy. Doesn't feel like at this stage
- 11:27Speaker 4: of his career, he's there.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Yet, he's we'll see in person in Week five when
- 11:32Speaker 2: the Colts come to town. Texans. Obviously they're two and zero,
- 11:36Speaker 2: as good as we've seen them be against the Bears
- 11:40Speaker 2: as well, which is a good defense. So obviously the
- 11:42Speaker 2: Texans are We're trying to win a game, so we're
- 11:44Speaker 2: not necessarily comparing anything to the Texans right now, but
- 11:46Speaker 2: both of those opponents coming up in the near future,
- 11:49Speaker 2: the Texans and the Bears in London, so you don't
- 11:52Speaker 2: want to look too far ahead, but it is something
- 11:53Speaker 2: to keep your eye on.
- 11:54Speaker 3: I think I was just saying, I think that Damico
- 11:56Speaker 3: Ryans really did an incredible job last year of getting
- 12:00Speaker 3: that team rallied around that quarterback. And this year the
- 12:03Speaker 3: quarterback has taking a step forward and is the personality
- 12:08Speaker 3: of that team and they trust him. He makes good
- 12:10Speaker 3: throws on target, on time, He understands what they're asking
- 12:15Speaker 3: him to do, and he understands the guys that he's
- 12:17Speaker 3: got to work with.
- 12:19Speaker 1: They are a very dangerous team.
- 12:21Speaker 4: Look, I said, oh, off season, I thought the Jaguars
- 12:24Speaker 4: could play with the Texans. I do think they can,
- 12:26Speaker 4: but they're getting away from you. I mean, it's early
- 12:28Speaker 4: there's a mile to go in the season. Miles. They're
- 12:32Speaker 4: two and nine in your own two. So right now,
- 12:33Speaker 4: the hope of the Jags they need to win Monday
- 12:36Speaker 4: and hope that they can pull these guys back a
- 12:40Speaker 4: little bit in week four, right and make sure that
- 12:43Speaker 4: it still feels close. I watched Texans game the other
- 12:47Speaker 4: night that they looked good. They didn't look great, but
- 12:51Speaker 4: they're the kind of not great right now that's winning
- 12:55Speaker 4: early so that when they hit their great streak or
- 12:57Speaker 4: do they think they're capable of, then all of a
- 12:59Speaker 4: sudden they get to eight and three, right, So the
- 13:05Speaker 4: Jaguars need to not let this team get away. And
- 13:10Speaker 4: I don't know the Jargars are playing well enough right
- 13:11Speaker 4: now to prevent that.
- 13:13Speaker 3: You know what I've heard it said. It's true, Well
- 13:15Speaker 3: you're in second place in the division. Yeah, but you're
- 13:17Speaker 3: zero and two in the AFC. Right you can't look
- 13:21Speaker 3: at it that way. You've got to win these AFC
- 13:23Speaker 3: games because if you can't catch the Texans, you're looking
- 13:26Speaker 3: at a wildcard spot right now. There's not a wildcard
- 13:30Speaker 3: team in the AFC South.
- 13:31Speaker 4: Well, think about last year the Texans felt sort of
- 13:35Speaker 4: it's always the danger of trying to judge the season.
- 13:38Speaker 4: In September when they came here they felt sort of
- 13:41Speaker 4: out of it, and then they beat the supposed division favorite.
- 13:46Speaker 1: And all of a sudden they were on their heels.
- 13:47Speaker 4: All that felt tight all year, no matter what happens
- 13:53Speaker 4: on Monday. At this point, starting off zero and two,
- 13:58Speaker 4: that one feels like I have to to give the
- 14:01Speaker 4: Jaguars that feeling the rest of the year, right, I
- 14:04Speaker 4: mean to give them life.
- 14:06Speaker 1: They're way ahead. Get the win Monday, and then talk
- 14:09Speaker 1: about more.
- 14:10Speaker 4: But you asked me to talk about the South guy,
- 14:11Speaker 4: so that's on you.
- 14:14Speaker 2: You have to look ahead, not too far ahead, just
- 14:15Speaker 2: a little bit, keep an eye on things. Say with
- 14:17Speaker 2: us here, we're gonna do a little this or that
- 14:19Speaker 2: after the break when we work about what changes it
- 14:21Speaker 2: would like to see in week three. BAGXAM brought to
- 14:34Speaker 2: you by Field's Auto, Jacksonville's premier luxury auto group. Go
- 14:37Speaker 2: to Fields Auto dot com.
- 14:39Speaker 1: This school that, this.
- 14:42Speaker 2: School two, little this or that for each day we're
- 14:48Speaker 2: gonna look ahead. We've recommended some changes. We looked at
- 14:51Speaker 2: the film where things that we thought maybe could get
- 14:54Speaker 2: tweaked a little bit going forward.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Obviously everyone is talking about the offensive line.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Talked about it all last year, talked about in the
- 14:59Speaker 2: off season, and we're talking about it again to start
- 15:01Speaker 2: this season. So things didn't go as planned in Week two,
- 15:04Speaker 2: and now it is a matter of when it comes
- 15:07Speaker 2: to the offensive line, do you change the players that
- 15:10Speaker 2: you have on the offensive line with what you have
- 15:12Speaker 2: on this roster, or do you change the tactics of
- 15:15Speaker 2: what you're trying to do right now? We talked about
- 15:17Speaker 2: how they've messed with the run game a little bit
- 15:19Speaker 2: and dealing with that, Phil Rauscher, Doug Peterson, how they
- 15:23Speaker 2: trying to double team, trying to pull, trying to do
- 15:26Speaker 2: different things to cover up some of the issues that
- 15:28Speaker 2: they've had, and they seem to be working right now. So
- 15:31Speaker 2: you stayed the course, Brian, or do you put different
- 15:33Speaker 2: players in there and try something else?
- 15:34Speaker 3: You know, at this point of the season, generally teams
- 15:37Speaker 3: don't have the luxury of being able to make multiple
- 15:40Speaker 3: changes on their offensive line. But I think the Jaguars
- 15:42Speaker 3: do you have Walker Little who you thought might be
- 15:44Speaker 3: a starter at this point in his career, and you
- 15:46Speaker 3: have Cooper Hodges who had he stayed healthy and been
- 15:48Speaker 3: active or even practiced last.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Year, he'd be the starter. Now your right guard.
- 15:55Speaker 3: If I'm in a meeting, I'm raising my hand saying
- 15:57Speaker 3: at coach, the left tackle and the right guard have
- 16:00Speaker 3: not played well the first two weeks out.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Let's make a change. I would make a change. I
- 16:05Speaker 1: don't want to put it all on those two guys, but.
- 16:07Speaker 3: When I watch the offensive line struggle, it's seventy four
- 16:09Speaker 3: and sixty eight, and I would have that conversation. I'd
- 16:13Speaker 3: also ask that guy right there, Hey, if we do this,
- 16:15Speaker 3: are you okay with it? Do you believe in these
- 16:18Speaker 3: two guys that we're talking about putting in. Here's why
- 16:20Speaker 3: we want to put him in. I would have that conversation.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:24Speaker 4: I think it has to be considered so much what's
- 16:27Speaker 4: been going on with the offensive line. My understanding is
- 16:29Speaker 4: there's been some misassignments. It's tough to just hang it
- 16:34Speaker 4: on Cameron Robinson, share whoever you're hanging. But I do
- 16:41Speaker 4: think there are some glaring Katie bar the door moments
- 16:46Speaker 4: when in the passing game that make you feel like
- 16:51Speaker 4: you want to do something.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Now.
- 16:53Speaker 4: I get if they don't, because Week two you've spent
- 16:57Speaker 4: the off season trying to build continent trying to get
- 17:01Speaker 4: this group ready. I can understand if they don't, they
- 17:07Speaker 4: don't immediately go away after week two, Brian, But I
- 17:12Speaker 4: would not be surprised if it's being considered.
- 17:15Speaker 3: I could stick with seventy four playing Cam at left tackle.
- 17:23Speaker 3: But Matt and I give credit to Sheriff. He played
- 17:25Speaker 3: all last season with the foot in the ankle. He's
- 17:27Speaker 3: a tough guy. Nothing against him. But when I watched
- 17:31Speaker 3: the running game, my first thought, is sixty eight going
- 17:33Speaker 3: to be able to Is he going to be able
- 17:34Speaker 3: to make that?
- 17:35Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 17:35Speaker 3: Maybe it's what they're asking him to do. Maybe there's
- 17:37Speaker 3: some combo blocks in there. It's too easy to go. Well,
- 17:40Speaker 3: I got to get him out of the lineup. But
- 17:42Speaker 3: I got Cooper Hodgers, who's young and my future and strong,
- 17:46Speaker 3: and I would be thinking seriously that I at least
- 17:49Speaker 3: have to get someone in the interior to give me
- 17:51Speaker 3: the ability to keep playing strong.
- 17:53Speaker 1: See if a kid can do Yeah.
- 17:54Speaker 2: I think it is important to mention Trevor as well.
- 17:56Speaker 2: I know you brought that up, Brian, because some of
- 17:58Speaker 2: these also even if then you do have your blocks, yep,
- 18:02Speaker 2: And Trevor said you didn't get it the last three
- 18:04Speaker 2: times so then your feet start moving a little bit
- 18:06Speaker 2: and it's a different It's not only doing that so
- 18:09Speaker 2: that your quarterback trusts you as well.
- 18:10Speaker 3: John, this is the first elite quarterback that I have covered,
- 18:14Speaker 3: or guy that I think can be e leade. You
- 18:15Speaker 3: covered Peyton Banning. I wouldn't do anything without getting him
- 18:18Speaker 3: involved in this, right.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Yeah, now some of it too.
- 18:21Speaker 4: In fairness to the offensive line, Trevor can still develop
- 18:25Speaker 4: in terms of when he gets rid of the ball.
- 18:29Speaker 4: And there were plays the other day where offensive line
- 18:33Speaker 4: did get them blocked. It wasn't every play that there
- 18:36Speaker 4: was huge pressure. There were some plays there that could
- 18:39Speaker 4: have been made when they did get them blocked. In
- 18:41Speaker 4: order to take that next level, you're going to get
- 18:44Speaker 4: pressure at times in a game. For your quarterback, you
- 18:46Speaker 4: have to take advantage of the moments where you have time.
- 18:48Speaker 4: If your offensive line is struggling and they give you
- 18:51Speaker 4: five plays or s or ten plays or fifteen, you
- 18:54Speaker 4: need to take advantage of a bigger percentage of those
- 18:56Speaker 4: opportunities than the quarterback did.
- 18:58Speaker 1: The other day.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Agreed, All right, let's suit to the defensive side of
- 19:01Speaker 2: the football. Obviously, the defense played well enough to win,
- 19:04Speaker 2: but coogand Browns were able to kind of control time
- 19:07Speaker 2: of possession. Have those long drives couldn't get a stop
- 19:10Speaker 2: sometimes when you need it from the defense. The way
- 19:13Speaker 2: Ryan Nielson runs his defense, he has subs going on
- 19:17Speaker 2: at all times. So some of your best players aren't
- 19:19Speaker 2: playing more than three quarters of the snaps, which is
- 19:22Speaker 2: unusual for certain positions. So for me, I don't think
- 19:25Speaker 2: Neilson's going to change his entire philosophy. But maybe if
- 19:28Speaker 2: it's a down, maybe if it's a set where hey,
- 19:30Speaker 2: we need this stop right here at this point in
- 19:32Speaker 2: the game, do you kind of say, Okay, you don't
- 19:34Speaker 2: get your turn right now. I need Josh, Allen and
- 19:36Speaker 2: Trayvon in this game no matter what, or do you
- 19:39Speaker 2: keep do your rotation.
- 19:40Speaker 4: I feel like they've been and you may be seen
- 19:44Speaker 4: it differently. I feel like, for the most part, on
- 19:47Speaker 4: big plays, third downs, it feels like it's usually Armstead, Allen,
- 19:52Speaker 4: and Trayvon on the field. I think I'm not saying
- 19:56Speaker 4: it's every time when I have watched those moments for
- 20:00Speaker 4: what you're talking about, Kay, I think they're trying to
- 20:03Speaker 4: play those three guys on the winning plays, the money plays.
- 20:08Speaker 4: Yeah and yeah, there as many winning plays. But the
- 20:13Speaker 4: unusual part, necessarily to me isn't that they're rotating the
- 20:17Speaker 4: defensive line the way they are the linebackers is a
- 20:20Speaker 4: little unusual the way they're doing it, But I kind
- 20:25Speaker 4: of get it because right now you're early in the
- 20:27Speaker 4: season and I haven't necessarily noticed a big drop off
- 20:31Speaker 4: when they've been playing Ventral Millen and Chad Mumas, So
- 20:36Speaker 4: I don't know that I would change that. What I
- 20:40Speaker 4: do find interesting is they're so rotating or they're doing
- 20:44Speaker 4: it so much. Teams if they get effective, they may
- 20:50Speaker 4: try to keep them on the field with some no
- 20:52Speaker 4: huddle or some you know, shady huddle, whatever you call it,
- 20:56Speaker 4: when you kind of keep the offense on there and
- 20:58Speaker 4: not allow them to substitute. One of the teams last
- 21:03Speaker 4: night or in Monday's game was doing that. Maybe there
- 21:08Speaker 4: could be an issue going forward for the Jags if
- 21:10Speaker 4: you had trouble substituting against a no huddle.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Agree with that.
- 21:14Speaker 3: Doug and Trent both talked about having young guys develop
- 21:19Speaker 3: because you'll need them later in the season. Ventro Miller
- 21:23Speaker 3: was not on the field at all last year because
- 21:24Speaker 3: of the torn achilles tendon they like him.
- 21:27Speaker 1: They want him to get.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Experienced so that he in November and December cannot only
- 21:32Speaker 3: keep Foy a fresh but in case Foyer is banged up,
- 21:36Speaker 3: as linebackers generally tend to get banged up. I think
- 21:39Speaker 3: we saw Trey Prince on the field the other day.
- 21:40Speaker 3: He came in, he made two or three plays, he flashed. Great,
- 21:44Speaker 3: he's getting some experience. In case Monteric Brown, who's what
- 21:47Speaker 3: about one hundred ninety pounds, has eleven tackles next week
- 21:50Speaker 3: and is sore and maybe hurt. That's Ryan Nielson and
- 21:55Speaker 3: Doug and Trent Balke working together to make sure that
- 21:58Speaker 3: these guys are being developed. You got to develop these guys.
- 22:02Speaker 3: I don't see them changing their philosophy. I do think
- 22:05Speaker 3: you'll see them tweak it. You know, in week one
- 22:07Speaker 3: they had a very specific plan when Eric Armstad was
- 22:09Speaker 3: going to be on the field. They were trying to
- 22:11Speaker 3: work him back into it. I wouldn't be surprised if
- 22:14Speaker 3: that doesn't change the next couple of weeks as we
- 22:16Speaker 3: get into big situations against quarterbacks like Josh Allen, who
- 22:19Speaker 3: was a really big guy, and you don't see that
- 22:23Speaker 3: tweak adjust.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Another quick one for you guys, just because something I
- 22:27Speaker 2: was thinking about as well, Mason Smith.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Are we gonna see him active again?
- 22:30Speaker 2: I don't know if we have any further insight into that,
- 22:33Speaker 2: but I'd like to see some more of him, especially
- 22:35Speaker 2: with as much as they rotate.
- 22:36Speaker 1: It feels like if you draft it to play, it.
- 22:38Speaker 4: Sounds like he's got hurt. I mean, he did not
- 22:41Speaker 4: play in week two. There were some issues in week
- 22:45Speaker 4: one that they didn't like. From that spot, I thought
- 22:50Speaker 4: he made some I you can answer your question, yes,
- 22:53Speaker 4: we're gonna see him again because he did some good
- 22:55Speaker 4: things in week one. I saw him make a couple
- 22:57Speaker 4: of disruptive plays that you want to the field. You
- 23:02Speaker 4: also want to make sure that young players understand it
- 23:05Speaker 4: has to be earned.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Same thing that I just said, You got to develop
- 23:08Speaker 3: this kid. He was unblockable at times during training camp.
- 23:11Speaker 3: He is somebody whom you are expecting to step in
- 23:15Speaker 3: and replace Eric Armstead and replaced Devon Hamilton to.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Be that guy for the future.
- 23:19Speaker 3: And the only way he's going to be ready to
- 23:21Speaker 3: help you second round pick is if he's on the
- 23:24Speaker 3: field this year. Got to earn it, got to earn
- 23:26Speaker 3: your time. They're going to give him every bit of time.
- 23:29Speaker 3: I guarantee you that the general manager will be banging
- 23:31Speaker 3: his fist on the table. You've got to get ninety
- 23:33Speaker 3: four on the field if you expect him to develop
- 23:36Speaker 3: and help us later in the year.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Very well.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Stay with here on jag Zam. Coming up after the break,
- 23:41Speaker 2: we'll go over what's going on the rest of the
- 23:43Speaker 2: week before MONDAA football Jags fans, if you want customized

- 23:57Speaker 2: to browse all the customizable options. Zipchaer is Furniture four fans.
- 24:02Speaker 2: A little bit of a different week for us this
- 24:04Speaker 2: week because obviously we're going to be heading to Buffalo
- 24:06Speaker 2: for Monday night football, so things got pushed back a little.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Bit this week.
- 24:09Speaker 2: But as you get geared up, were you kind of
- 24:11Speaker 2: focusing on who are you talking to? What's the plans for
- 24:13Speaker 2: the weeknd?
- 24:14Speaker 3: I talked to Breton Strange yesterday in the locker room.
- 24:17Speaker 3: You know, you don't know, they're optimistic that Evan won't
- 24:20Speaker 3: go the way of Tyson to be an ir guy
- 24:22Speaker 3: with the hamstring, But I thought Strange was a great
- 24:25Speaker 3: example of a young player who was point blank asked, Hey,
- 24:29Speaker 3: you got to be the guy, and he was.
- 24:31Speaker 1: He was the guy.
- 24:32Speaker 3: He played really well from what I'm told, and he
- 24:35Speaker 3: is excited about more opportunities to make plays.
- 24:39Speaker 4: Yeah, he was sort of the classic guy last year
- 24:42Speaker 4: who probably should have been on the field more with
- 24:43Speaker 4: more opportunity. I never heard anything within the building that
- 24:47Speaker 4: they didn't like him.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Yeah, he wasn't playing.
- 24:50Speaker 2: So.
- 24:51Speaker 4: I'm not surprised that he's doing what he's doing, and
- 24:54Speaker 4: he feels like a guy who might matter a lot.
- 24:57Speaker 4: I'm going to have Brian Thomas Junior on the Ozone
- 24:59Speaker 4: podcast uh, which should run Friday ish, and I'm looking
- 25:02Speaker 4: forward to it.
- 25:03Speaker 1: He uh.
- 25:04Speaker 4: I feel like this kid is one of the three
- 25:06Speaker 4: or four guys who are gonna be the future of
- 25:08Speaker 4: the franchise for the next five, six, seven years.
- 25:10Speaker 1: That's gonna be a good one.
- 25:11Speaker 2: I'll definitely listen in say this here, we'll back on Thursday.
- 25:14Speaker 2: We'll do a little bit of a deep dive. What
- 25:16Speaker 2: it's gonna be like taking on the Bills on Monday
- 25:17Speaker 2: night Football
