- 0:00Hi and welcome to the Curve Weekly. The podcast that keeps you up to date with all the money,
- 0:06business and stock market tea. Everyone should experience for us at least once in their lives
- 0:10and Annie shouldn't miss out just because she can't afford it. Help me, I'm poor.
- 0:14Hi Sophie. Hi Vicki. Vicki? Oh, I know. I hate Vicki too. Sorry, I shouldn't have done that.
- 0:21I feel like someone from accounts, you know Vicki. Vicki from accounts or something? I don't know.
- 0:26I don't mean there's probably so many cool Vicki's. No, I totally, there is, and I know many of them,
- 0:31I just, I think you're not a Vicki when I was younger and I've just grown up.
- 0:38But I love Vicki. Vicki is so fun to say. But came over for dinner last night. It was really
- 0:44cute. We haven't really done because we've spent so much effort and time together. We don't often
- 0:51hang out in the weekends anymore. And it was so nice. Like it was so cute. It was. Your flatmates
- 0:56are lovely. Aren't they gorgeous? I know. Lots of loves. It's quite hard, I think, when you get to
- 1:02your early 30s to be living with people in the sense that a lot of people are either like
- 1:08married, have kids or like don't want to live with others. They're such cool people. And it's
- 1:13if I was to say I live with such people, people are like, what? I'm like, no, but it's like,
- 1:17firstly, it's a massive house, but secondly, everyone's like so,
- 1:22it can't just sounds like I'm giving like a high school report card, but like just such cool people.
- 1:28Like I think if you were living in a group of people, it could definitely go wrong and not be great.
- 1:33But I've hit the jackpot. I'm very lucky. It's so funny. I turned up and then like there was two
- 1:37people there and then someone else came from upstairs. Then another person came from upstairs.
- 1:42Another person, I was like, how many people? Is there another seven people?
- 1:47Is someone else just going to come from upstairs? It was quite funny.
- 1:52What did you think of my cooking? Delicious, lovely. Absolutely, lovely.
- 1:56So one is like, I'm never eating it again. Ten would be like the best move ever had. Where was I
- 2:02sitting on the spectrum? Are you an eight? Holy shit. You were delicious. I spent the whole
- 2:10of Sunday preparing, so that's good. I was delicious. Oh my god, I'm so glad.
- 2:17So the thing with our house is that, and this is another mess perk, I think, particularly
- 2:22actually financially, living with other people. So we do cooking rosters, which I've never had before
- 2:27in a flip. I don't know why, but we basically, someone cooks for like four nights to the way you get
- 2:33a beautiful like home cooked meal. So you cook like once a week. But it's so good because it means
- 2:40firstly, you only buy groceries once a week, so you're not having to go to the supermarket all the
- 2:43time. Yeah. But also, like if you're not home for dinner, you can just have it for your lunch
- 2:47the next day, which is so dreamy. But I think it's quite a good money saver because cooking
- 2:51for more people is way better than cooking for yourself. Eric and I spend more money than I would
- 2:57if I was going out for dinner. I just cook once and then have leftovers. Like I still cook for
- 3:03like two or three people, but just who are you cooking for? Oh, no, life's self. Yeah, cook once,
- 3:09eat three times, kind of thing. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Can you imagine having kids and having to cook?
- 3:15We were talking about this at dinner last night. Like you spend all day cooking them for
- 3:18it. And they're like, I don't want it. And they chuck them all for it. I don't like these fingers
- 3:22anymore. It's like you did yesterday, you know, fish fungus, Joanna. Joanna? I wouldn't go in
- 3:30to Joanna. No, I like the name Joe, but anyway, how was your weekend? What else did you do?
- 3:36I had a very chilled weekend, which was nice. After class, I needed a little money, reset,
- 3:42body reset, all of that. Yeah, it was delightful. What has been happening in the world?
- 3:51Oh, my goodness. Oh, my god. Has hate been happening? Well, well, yes, a lot. Really?
- 3:57A lot. What do I need to do? I need to put a lot like alerts on. Do I need to know the
- 4:01shit? Well, do you know we've got a new prime minister, so please tell me to. Yeah, you know, I do.
- 4:06Oh, thank goodness. But I have, but I don't know how this, like, I'd love to hear a bit of how this
- 4:12relates to money and the economy and everything. Yeah. So we in the UK have a new prime minister.
- 4:19There's been 14 years of conservative party rule. And then now Labour has taken over.
- 4:26And this has been the biggest landslide victory in 200 years. So so the Labour has won
- 4:33against the conservative rule for the biggest win in 200 years, which is crazy. Isn't it kind of
- 4:41normally, I mean, I don't, this is just New Zealand, but often it swaps. You know, like 14 years
- 4:45is a long time to have the same party in government, isn't it? Exactly. Yeah. And I mean,
- 4:52they've had a pretty, it's been a pretty terrible run. They've had like, I think it's,
- 4:57oh, this is so many cameos like, like, yeah, the amount of people. Yeah, Lizzy was there
- 5:03for like 40, eight hours. Yeah, yeah. But they've also had a lot going on. Like I can, I can see
- 5:09why people are frustrated. They've had bricks it. They've had cost of living crisis. They've had
- 5:14COVID. They've had you throw in like Ukraine war and the UK's involvement with that. You don't,
- 5:20you think the world that's just going to keep happening. It's kind of like that's part and
- 5:23parcel of, I need to stop talking like, yeah, that's your word. Part and parcel. But you notice,
- 5:28it's like, the world is a complex place. Like, what do we think is going to happen? It's just
- 5:32going to be sunshine and rainbows and it's going to be an easy, like, yeah, I don't think
- 5:36necessarily. No, that's why I love living in a democracy where you can be like, actually, no,
- 5:40you didn't navigate us well through that or where now the economy is now in a shitter position.
- 5:46And I want a new leader that might be able to get the economy out of it because I am being
- 5:50impacted. I can't afford things. But not just the economy. Like, I think, I mean, I know that
- 5:54this is obviously a money podcast, but like, yeah, I think that that's the biggest
- 6:00challenge of all is in it, like people economy, planet, like really being able to balance all
- 6:05of the important things and not be too heavily leaned on one or the other, which is difficult
- 6:11because everyone also has the things that they want the government to focus on. So anyway, sorry,
- 6:17so what's it? So in baseline. Yeah, so the biggest victory in over 200 years, like it's insane,
- 6:22like how much they lost by anyway, what does this all mean for the stock market? Well, a lot of
- 6:30politicians actually like to take credit for rising stocks and, you know, they're like, when I'm in
- 6:35power, it was, it went up this much and blah, blah, blah, blah. The really only important thing
- 6:40is that stock market and stock prices are a flexion of company profits. So it's all around how
- 6:48governments are going to impact company profits really in terms of how it's going to affect the
- 6:52stock market. I'm not saying all their policies should be focused on that, but in terms of how
- 6:57a political party can impact the stock market, where we need to look at how it will impact
- 7:03companies, specifically. Do you know what I'd love that? I'd love to get some of those
- 7:08of correspondents to, yeah, or like just in politics, like I think it would be really interesting
- 7:12to dive deeper into this because there's so much to it. Oh, definitely. And I think the key thing
- 7:18is markets hate uncertainty. You can't forecast what a company will do, what an economy will do,
- 7:26what companies will be profitable, anything like that, if you've got an uncertain landscape,
- 7:31you're navigating. If we take COVID, for example, no one knew what was happening,
- 7:36everyone was freaking out, what does this mean for the future? In markets, nose-dived, they took,
- 7:41you know, one of the biggest hits that I've seen in my lifetime. And so that was all around the
- 7:46world was uncertain. And so when it comes to politics, if there's a clear leader in terms of who's
- 7:53going to win this race, that tends to be fine for the stock market because people can factor in,
- 7:57okay, that means these policies are going to come into place, that means we're going to have this
- 8:01government leading us, this party leading us. I can factor that in and I can see the future,
- 8:07it's not uncertain. If we look at France, for example, that's pretty much tied between,
- 8:13like they don't really know who's going to win in terms of, and probably by the time it's podcast
- 8:17comes out, I'll probably know who's going to win, but in terms of left, right, and center,
- 8:22it's all kind of a gambler who's going to win that. It's so uncertain, and their stock market
- 8:28is done terribly. So it's all around uncertainty. And I think this is also a really good example in
- 8:33the US, is that we've got Trump and we've also got Biden, but these question marks around Biden
- 8:39and whether he's fit to run and all of that. So that's creating uncertainty. So it's all around
- 8:45uncertainty. It's not really around who wins or who doesn't.
- 8:49Well, I just point out there's also uncertainty around Trump.
- 8:53You know, I definitely know, definitely. Yeah. I was like, I know that's not what you were
- 8:57meaning, but it's 100%. Yeah. Okay. So it's a way that we can look at this, like when there's
- 9:04elections happening, when these big shakeups, when government could potentially be shifting or
- 9:09staying the same, if you're invested in the stock market to expect turbulence, it's like everyone
- 9:14will put your seatbelt on. This is a short term little we're going through a rain cloud right
- 9:19now. No one panic. You know, it's like don't don't look at your stocks or investment portfolio.
- 9:25If it's down heaps and be like panic station, it's because what is happening in the political
- 9:31world is being reflected in the economy. And in the UK, stocks actually rose when labor. Wow.
- 9:39And because it's removed even more uncertainty because now they're in. Cool. Yeah. And the pound,
- 9:43so the British pound, it's biggest winning streak in four years. So people are really positive
- 9:49about labor getting in, which is, which is interesting. So I mean, their policies, for example,
- 9:55you're reducing trade barriers, post Brexit, so people can trade more easily and also wanting to
- 10:02get the economy back into shape and fix the NHS, which personally I feel is I've had to deal with
- 10:08the NHS and it's an absolute disaster. There's about seven people. Really? I've had the most
- 10:12amazing experience at the NHS. There's seven million people waiting for services on the NHS,
- 10:17which is yeah, I had, I had an appointment booked in and I got cancelled because of a strike.
- 10:22And I was like, imagine if that was life-threatening. Thank goodness it wasn't, but like anyway,
- 10:27we could complain to the cows come home on the NHS. Can we just pause for one second? I have a
- 10:32really good addition to this podcast. Go for it. My gorgeous flatmate works as a servant and I'd
- 10:39love to just get like a quick little sound bite from her. Is that okay? Yeah. Give me two
- 10:43seconds. I've just been upstairs. She's not allowed. Well, she was kind of like, to be honest,
- 10:48I probably shouldn't and I also, to be fair, I think I just sprung it on her. Hey, do you want
- 10:52to be on the podcast? She's like, aha, I probably shouldn't. What were you going to get hurt?
- 10:57Well, she's just like incredibly knowledgeable about what's happening in with politics, what's
- 11:03happened with Brexit, how it's affected business, like she's just so, so clever and I feel like
- 11:10she's a wealth of knowledge that we would all benefit from learning from. But let's, I think
- 11:16it would be really amazing if there's someone either in the UK and New Zealand, anyone in our
- 11:20community that's, whether it be passionate about being educated with politics and how it
- 11:25affects the economy or anything, if you're listening, you're like, oh, I reckon I could add a
- 11:29two cents and we'd love to have from you just send us a message. No, I think that's a great idea
- 11:34because that's all, it is all interrelated in terms of the economy is doing shit, people aren't
- 11:39spending, companies are doing shit, then the stock market does shit. So it's like, yeah. It's just so
- 11:44interesting because I never really realised how all of these things that since we've started the
- 11:49curve, I've started to realise how and to connect everything is one of those that I didn't quite
- 11:54understand and still probably don't know anywhere near enough about is how much
- 11:59who's in power affects, not only the economy, but then what's in our wallets and it's such a
- 12:05yeah, there's a stock market side of it, but there's also like taxes and you know there might be
- 12:10health care benefits and changes that impact you positively or negative that there's so many,
- 12:15it's so money related on and all aspects not just investing. It would be quite cool eventually
- 12:20to get to a place where we had almost like a go to person that could explain particularly when
- 12:25it comes to the economy, but with all of the different parties and policies and everything,
- 12:30so that we can all understand and make really educated decisions because I think it's similar to
- 12:35money politics like it's there's probably also people people in New Zealand who are like, I don't
- 12:40care, I don't care about you care. No, not just the UK, I mean globally, I just mean actually
- 12:46politics in general, I don't even mean necessarily what's happening with France or the UK,
- 12:50I just think it's one of those things unless you know enough about it to enter the conversation,
- 12:54sometimes you feel a bit silly, like last night at dinner when we were talking about it,
- 12:58I just don't know enough to participate and I think I would really like to.
- 13:03Yeah, I think it also comes down to like finding news websites or news publications that you enjoy
- 13:09reading like the Curve Weekly, it's a plug. If anyone doesn't get that, it's our email,
- 13:14you can, we'll put a link in our show notes, but that does a whole lot of research and sort of
- 13:19like pulls out the main things we should know, so that's just talking about. Like I feel lucky that
- 13:24my job, I have to research and keep up to what's going on, like every morning I read like
- 13:29five or six different publications, you know, like it's like, if you have time for that,
- 13:34Vic is working 7.30 a.m this morning until 11 p.m. tonight. I do it on my walk, I go, I read the
- 13:41news on my walk, and then copy paste, copy paste, what's important, what's, what's, what's
- 13:46all the community is. Sorry, we should move on to the next thing, because normally we try and
- 13:53cover three main things and we've already done one, so let's move on to two. Guess who's back?
- 13:59The bitch is back. Who's back? Roryne Kitty is back. Oh, yep. And
- 14:05don't you ever do that again. Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry. I'd love to see people go
- 14:16prant, and I'm like, oh, no, it's so skin-crawling, but maybe we could seem to
- 14:22miss all this stuff and be like, come on the podcast. Oh my gosh, I think he's trying to keep
- 14:26a low profile, but anyway, he's back and he has appropriately chosen his next company,
- 14:31so a cat comes close, a pet food retailer. Yeah. So for those of you who don't know, he was the guy
- 14:40behind GameStop, which is the stock he got everyone together on Reddit, he had a huge following
- 14:46on Reddit, he got everyone to buy GameStop and the share price went up massively. So he's
- 14:51trying to do the same with this company Chewie. So Chewie, he owns a 7% stake, he announced that he
- 14:58has 7% of this company, Chewie, which is 9 million shares around $230 million. How does a dude
- 15:05have so much money? Yeah. Well, he made a shit ton in GameStop. I'm going to invest $5
- 15:12for just to be a part of it. I already have. Yes. We win. I did it last week. It's gone down.
- 15:20It's gone down, down, down, down. So shit, we're telling me these things. Sophie, all right.
- 15:24We are not endorsing trading. Why did you do it that? Because I wanted to have content for the
- 15:30podcast. I did literally, I think it was like $50. Because it was gone down and down and down.
- 15:35But can you next time include me? You've been really left out. Why? So you can lose money?
- 15:40Yes. I want to be part of the fun. Well, it's not fun when you lose money. No, I know, but it's
- 15:44just like I want to do it just to learn because it's the same thing I think I'd learn something.
- 15:48I'm not going to go put five grand in, but I might just lose $5. Why do you like it?
- 15:54And then if it goes up, why didn't you tell me to put five grand in? No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 15:59You can't use me. No, no, no, so it has gone down. It went up massively and then it's been down
- 16:06since I bought it. The thing is the stock's already up 60% in the last three months and then he
- 16:11discloses his stake. So he's like, he's quite strategic in that sense. Anyway, the funny thing
- 16:18is Chewy was founded by the GameStop. Founder. No, the GameStop CEO, right? This is a policy,
- 16:25a reality show. I know. It's all intertwined. It's quite hilarious. I hope they do a follow-up
- 16:30because there is actually a Netflix on GameStop. There's a Netflix series. And so I hope they do
- 16:35a follow-up of like season two of what's happened because... A bit they will. Yeah.
- 16:40Anyway, he's on another little mission with Chewy. So I'm going to, it's been re-entregating.
- 16:44I'll give you an update in terms of what happens, but so far not so good.
- 16:48And we've got some news on Gen Z's. So Gen Z's. Do we need to stop saying like that?
- 16:56Do we sound really lame and old? What did you hear the other day? So... Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 17:02So, okay, anyone wants to Gen Z? Sorry in advance. This is quite an advantage. We're not being
- 17:06mean. We... There are some though. But they probably are also millennials like this. So we were at a
- 17:12talk the other day and it was all about like scaling a business from one to whatever. Anyway,
- 17:18the lady who's on this amazing brand called her tility, she was talking about, she talks about
- 17:24Gen Z's. She's just like, because they're just always sleeping. They're so lazy. I was like,
- 17:30do you know what? I actually have experienced that. I think there's like a real generational shift
- 17:35in the way that millennials work compared to Gen Z. Like... And I... Okay, I just want to
- 17:41caveat that for all the Gen Z's that are listening like, fuck you. We have also worked with some
- 17:46incredible Gen Z's. And we are not lumping all of them. This was her opinion. But it was just... Is she
- 17:52a Gen Z? She's Gen Z, yeah. Oh, so she's not. She never sleeps. So millennials? Millennials are
- 17:57anyone born between 1981 and 1996. So 43 to 28 year olds are millennials. So we're
- 18:04smack bang in the middle. And Gen Z is 27 years old or below. Oh, yeah. But yeah, we're not saying
- 18:11that all Gen Z's are Gen Z's. No, yeah. But it was just so... It was just funny.
- 18:16There's definitely millennials that are so snooze as well. But it was just funny the way she put it.
- 18:20Oh, she also said a really good point. So we're talking about scaling and she was like,
- 18:24you know what? And we were talking about hiring and like how hard it is to hire the right talent.
- 18:27She was like, you know what? You'd rather have a hole than an asshole in the firm. And I was like,
- 18:33oh my god, that's such a good analogy. She also said, we've got culture by the billions or something.
- 18:38We're like Kefir. And I was like, I love that. Like yogurt. We're gonna try to get her on the
- 18:42podcast. Yeah, we will get her on the podcast. Anyway, so Gen Z's, there's been a study that shows
- 18:47they're taking too much risk in the markets. Interesting. So, yeah. So even though they're being
- 18:53exposed to like financial education in schools and a lot more of them are investing,
- 19:00they're taking way more like speculative bets and trading bets than they are like building
- 19:06long-term wealth. And it's probably... I reckon it's a function of tech talk. It's, you know,
- 19:13people are... They're probably getting the wrong advice outside of school. And they're wanting
- 19:20that excitement or that quick fix or that... What is it called when you get like instant gratification?
- 19:26Instant gratification. Yeah. They're wanting that instant gratification, which when you're building
- 19:30wealth, you can't get it instant gratification. It's delayed gratification. You have to put away
- 19:36small amounts consistently and regularly and you get that delayed gratification.
- 19:41Also, roaring kitty crypto. All that stuff will have made them think that you can just like make
- 19:46a million dollars like that. Yes, exactly. And, you know, they've been bought up in a world of
- 19:52COVID where ever inside of us being crypto, it was exciting. It was, you know, there was lots
- 19:57going on. There was always retail investing as well where you can buy partial shares. You know,
- 20:02this is... They've been bought up with a lot more, I guess. Accessibility. Accessibility, yeah.
- 20:08But they just didn't think all your incentives. I don't work together for too long.
- 20:16Yeah, so it was just really, really interesting that even though it's really, really great that
- 20:22more young people are investing and 40% of under 25-year-olds are investing in the stock market now
- 20:30versus 16% in 1995. So we've got a significant step up in younger people investing,
- 20:38which don't get me wrong, is absolutely fantastic. I think there's just needs to be better education
- 20:45around what they're investing in. And this comes down to making sure that any advice or guidance
- 20:52or tips that you're getting online are from Rupertville people. You know, they're not from people
- 20:57like roaring kitty. They're not from people. You know, they're people with... Can you hear that?
- 21:04Can you hear my phone? Yeah, you just ignore it. Give me the creep. Sorry. I really want to
- 21:10listen and post to hear if it sounds like a cat. Sorry, I fully derailed that. Basically, it's the idea
- 21:18that if you're listening and you are a Gen Z, sorry, if we called you snoozey. So when you're making
- 21:23investments good on you for having a bit of risk, I think it's actually good thing. But just
- 21:27make sure you're making educated decisions because you don't want to go and then be burnt once
- 21:32because you make a risk investment and then you never want to invest again. You know, it's like
- 21:35it's being diversified. If you want, if you want to invest in crypto, go for it, but make sure
- 21:40it's not your entire life saving, you know, and do a little bit. So you get that little bit of
- 21:44spice, but make sure that you're investing in other things. So like a doll, you know, you want to put
- 21:49spice in because you want to have like, you know, oh yummy, that's like got a bit of a cap to it,
- 21:54but you don't want to have it so spicy that you just have to like layer your tongue with yogurt afterwards,
- 21:58you know, or you can't even eat your meal. I thought you'd cook a doll last night, to be honest.
- 22:03I was quite surprised with the pasta. You glared you weren't eating doll? Oh, yeah.
- 22:08I mean, it looked like doll. So basically first, it's the guacamole that you had to find. Yes,
- 22:13the doll. Like, no, you're not putting your mind over any more. So I've got us up calling you,
- 22:20hon, I know it's a joke, like it's starting to sound serious. Yeah, no. So yes, in summary,
- 22:26Gen Zs, be careful you invest in, don't invest in too many spicy things. And don't be too overexposed
- 22:31into exotic assets like crypto and stuff. It's like, make sure you're well diversified. It's a
- 22:36love exotic assets. Yeah, love that. I think though, can I just caveat this again by saying,
- 22:42yeah, I love that you're being like brave and open-minded to try different things because I think
- 22:47that like there's too much content of people being like, be careful, be careful. And it's like,
- 22:52you don't want to freak people out. Like, it's actually good to be higher risk, especially if you're
- 22:57younger. It's just making clever decisions. So it's not everything in one asset or everything
- 23:03in crypto. It's not to say you can't go in and invest in spicy assets. Yes, definitely. We like
- 23:08space. We like a little bit of chilli, especially with very Gen Z. Millenials less chilli, slightly less
- 23:12chilli. And then Gen X, Gen X, you're putting a lot of your... More miles. A lot of yoga, yeah. Yeah, you
- 23:19are old. Baby boomers. You ain't eating. You're not eating. Don't freak them out there. Sorry,
- 23:25no, I mean, like, you should be putting... No, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry. No, I just mean,
- 23:29like, you shouldn't be eating any spice. You should be... No, you should. Just not like outrageous
- 23:34surraccia. I think if you're a boomer, you can still have a bit of spice. It's just if you're
- 23:3975 AD, you don't want to have a spice. Okay, moving on, next one. Yeah, okay, sorry. Yes, so
- 23:44and in the media industry, so if this is a bit of you, the media landscape, it's been pretty
- 23:49tough over the last six months with media companies in the stock market. So I'm talking about
- 23:55like traditional media companies. So we know they've kind of been having to adapt a lot
- 24:00in the last five, 10 years because of streaming platforms like Disney and Netflix. But there's also
- 24:07like TikTok artificial intelligence. Like if we're looking at the media landscape as a whole,
- 24:12like, there's all this stuff they've got going on. They've got the rise of TikTok. They've
- 24:14got artificial intelligence. They've got less people watching TV, which is impacting TV companies
- 24:20profits. They've got most countries are in a recession or finding it really tough economically
- 24:26right now, which means less advertising budgets. And then you've got these streaming giants,
- 24:31which are just taking more and more share and even that space in itself is becoming really,
- 24:35really competitive. So there is a lot going on in the media space and investors are really concerned
- 24:41to be honest. And they're showing that concern by not investing in the media industry.
- 24:47Why I thought this was interesting was we have just finished raising capital. Explain what that
- 24:53is for people who don't know. Oh, sorry. Yes. So we are getting external investors investing into
- 24:58the curve. So we can grow and do more fun things for you guys. And we're super excited about it.
- 25:03That means we have to go around and almost like pitch ourselves to investors about this. What
- 25:07we're about is what we're trying to do is what we're trying to achieve. And we're technically a media
- 25:12company. You know, like we use for an educational platform, but our main source of revenue is our
- 25:18podcast. And right now, and that's like the point isn't it's a diversifying and going into our
- 25:24membership for anyone that's like interested the world's biggest investing hubs launching really
- 25:28soon. So if you're a founding member, one of the thousand people who you have is founding members,
- 25:32I think there's an email going up like today or tomorrow with updates on that. But yes, I know
- 25:37you mean that because when you first started talking about this, I was like, oh, yeah, but we're
- 25:40a media company kind of right now. Yeah. And you get lumped into this. And so the number of people
- 25:46that said, well, we were trying to raise capital and talk to investors, oh, it's such a tough time
- 25:49to raise capital. And it is because because there's just not a lot of money around at the moment.
- 25:55Then you throw this on top of it being like, and now you're in a sector of the industry that's
- 26:00doing also really badly or finding it tough. But for us, it's like a double whammy. It's like,
- 26:06cool. So it's not only a terrible time to raise capital, but we're also in a industry that's not
- 26:11doing too well. So yeah, it's just it's something to be aware of. And can I give an example, though,
- 26:17like because we often talk about this, it's like a finance analogy, a rising tide lifts all boats.
- 26:23And so the idea of that is like, if you're in the industry that's booming, I would be a tide
- 26:28that's rising. So any company that has AI somehow in their company is probably benefiting from it.
- 26:34And so using the stock market, like if it's up 10% down 10% as a benchmark, say the stock market
- 26:41is down 10% but a company is up 20 and they've got AI or whatever. Sorry, the point is you can measure
- 26:48against what the like averages in the stock market and see how companies are doing. And I think
- 26:55even though for us, we're not in a rising tide right now because media, as you say, is not doing
- 27:00super well, the fact that we've been able to raise the money that we planned on. It's almost like
- 27:07it's an example of like, firstly, I don't mean that in a really arrogant way, but what I mean is
- 27:12sometimes if you see a company doing really well, even if their tide is doing shit, I mean,
- 27:18media companies are doing badly, let's say Sky TV is doing really well. That's like a really good
- 27:23indicator that company is not a main, because imagine when the tide turns and that industry starts
- 27:32doing really well again, that company that has proven itself or has been strong or when the tide's out.
- 27:40Yeah, when the tide's in, that's going to be their first boat to get a hit. So shout out to all
- 27:45our investors. Thanks for that. Thank you. Yeah, it's just, it's an industry that we haven't really
- 27:51spoken about. And we were spoken about Netflix and Disney, but there's a lot of other players in that
- 27:55space. So like Paramount, for example, they own the big franchises like Star Trek, Nickelodeon,
- 28:00all of that. Their share price is down 20% in the first six months of this year, and a reminder
- 28:07that the stock market, the ESMP 500, which is the average, is up 20%. So it has not only fall in 20%
- 28:16it should be up 20. So it's actually down 40% yeah. And Warner Brothers as well as down 40%
- 28:24this year. Yeah, that's terrible. Yeah, so they own likes of Harry Potter and CNN and all that.
- 28:30I reckon Harry Potter maybe it's because JK Rowling is such a twit when it comes to transgender rights.
- 28:36Yes, yeah. Maybe people are like if you. It's a bit of a delayed reaction if it is because
- 28:41they didn't have it a while ago, but yeah, anyway, and Netflix trying to sound intelligent,
- 28:46like I know what's going on in the world. It's 50%. Is it? Are you invested in Netflix?
- 28:50I am through the ESMP 500. Oh, yeah, me too. Yeah, so you still get a little bit.
- 28:55We actually had a really good question come through the other day around,
- 28:57yeah, should I be investing in companies if I'm like separately, if I'm investing in them
- 29:04and through an ETF through like a index like ESMP 500. And I was like, you were alone such a small
- 29:11percentage in the ETF. So you're only, you know, you've got 500 companies in there. You're
- 29:15only, you're only a tiny amount. If you feel really, really passionate about Netflix or Microsoft
- 29:21Apple or any of those companies in the ESMP 500, then yes, you should definitely double down and
- 29:26buy them alongside your ETF to give you bigger exposure, but do be aware when you are investing
- 29:32in ETF, know what you're investing in and know what's in that ETF. So you don't accidentally
- 29:37buy something that you already invested in. Yeah.
- 29:40But did you have any other things you wanted to go over?
- 29:44Sorry, I need to use the low. Oh, my goodness, you just weren't.
- 29:48Don't. Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry.
- 29:54Bloody hell. Love you, love you, love you, love you, love you, love you.
- 29:56Go do I do some cranberry juice? Apparently that's a myth, it doesn't work.
- 29:59I know. No, but actually did you have anything else?
- 30:01No, no, no, that's it. Yeah.
- 30:02Did you have any good financial ones that we could end this conversation on this week?
- 30:07Financial ones. Or financial ones. Yes, I went out for dinner and got my
- 30:12dinner paid for me, which was great, which was really nice.
- 30:14I hope. Friends, boy, friends.
- 30:16He was like, I'll get the bill. I was like, no, stop it. Oh, my God, stop it.
- 30:19Okay, yep, cool. That's so sweet. Yeah, no, it's really lovely.
- 30:22That's really nice. I love it. It's your work.
- 30:25I had something paid for.
- 30:27Well, it is, because you like, no, it is, it is.
- 30:29Yeah, it was an expensive dinner, so I was like stoked.
- 30:32I actually had someone, I ordered a bloody Maria, which was like a tequila.
- 30:38Well, actually, I didn't know who I was.
- 30:39Oh, really?
- 30:40Yeah, no, it's tequila, so it's a Maria and a coffee.
- 30:44And she spilt the bloody Maria on my white jeans and then took them off the bill.
- 30:48And I thought, it's kind of a win.
- 30:50Hey, thanks for a great curve weekly.
- 30:52No worries.
