- 2:06Speaker 2: Want to tell you about a big event that's going
- 2:08Speaker 2: to be going on next Thursday night at the Putnam
- 2:10Speaker 2: Career and Technical Center which is in Eleanor. It's called
- 2:13Speaker 2: the Hometown Advantage Career Fair and it's a joint project
- 2:17Speaker 2: between the Putnam County Development Authority and the Putnam Career
- 2:20Speaker 2: and Technical Center. Morgan Tenney is the executive director of
- 2:23Speaker 2: the Development Authority and she joins us this morning along
- 2:26Speaker 2: with CD Caldwell, who's the Director of Career in Technical
- 2:29Speaker 2: Education in Putnham County Schools. Good morning and welcome to
- 2:32Speaker 2: both you folks.
- 2:35Speaker 5: New morning days.
- 2:37Speaker 4: Hello sir, how are you doing today?
- 2:38Speaker 2: I am doing fine. Thank you both for being here today. Now,
- 2:42Speaker 2: the prevailing mindset, guys has been that you have to
- 2:46Speaker 2: leave West Virginia to have a good career, and you
- 2:50Speaker 2: hope to prove otherwise.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Morgan, I want to start with you.
- 2:52Speaker 2: You spent a lot of time in schools and we
- 2:54Speaker 2: know CD obviously does more on him a little bit,
- 2:56Speaker 2: but would you agree that that has been right or wrong?
- 3:00Speaker 2: A popular opinion in the past Morgan that you have
- 3:03Speaker 2: to leave West Virginia in order to have a good career.
- 3:06Speaker 5: Absolutely, we've noticed that so many young people and even
- 3:11Speaker 5: folks in my age have left the state because they
- 3:13Speaker 5: feel like they need to have a good paying job
- 3:16Speaker 5: outside of West Virginia, or maybe they go to university
- 3:19Speaker 5: outside of the state and then they never come home.
- 3:22Speaker 5: But what's interesting, David. With our work in economic development,
- 3:26Speaker 5: we meet frequently with existing businesses located in Putnam County
- 3:31Speaker 5: and around the state, and they all have the same need.
- 3:35Speaker 5: They all need a skilled workforce. But when we would
- 3:39Speaker 5: turn around and go into our school system and meet
- 3:41Speaker 5: with some of our students, we'd ask them what do
- 3:43Speaker 5: you want to do when you graduate, and typically they
- 3:46Speaker 5: would give you some answer about how they're going to
- 3:48Speaker 5: leave and hope to be successful elsewhere. So we realize
- 3:52Speaker 5: it's really not an opportunity problem, because there are so
- 3:56Speaker 5: many opportunities for good paying jobs here in West Virginia.
- 3:59Speaker 5: It's a community vcation problems. So that's why we're partnering
- 4:02Speaker 5: with puttam County Schools and Putnam Career and Technical Center
- 4:05Speaker 5: to just bring awareness to the fact that you do
- 4:08Speaker 5: not have to leave West Virginia for a good paying
- 4:10Speaker 5: career and ce D.
- 4:11Speaker 2: I'll ask the same question of you have you seen
- 4:13Speaker 2: that in your experience in the past. Like Morgan said
- 4:15Speaker 2: that the misconception and some points is that students have
- 4:20Speaker 2: to leave in order to get a good pain job.
- 4:23Speaker 4: I first started at the Putta and Priner and Technical
- 4:26Speaker 4: Center about eight nine years ago. When I first got there,
- 4:29Speaker 4: there were certain jobs that we were training for that
- 4:33Speaker 4: there wasn't much job opportunity in our area. So you know,
- 4:36Speaker 4: I'm helping students try to find out where they can
- 4:38Speaker 4: go to do the job they want to do. Today,
- 4:42Speaker 4: the jobs are here, the jobs are around us. Part
- 4:46Speaker 4: of our job is helping find these students' jobs, how
- 4:49Speaker 4: to find post secondary education for them to get the
- 4:55Speaker 4: job they want. The jobs are here. Last year, our
- 4:59Speaker 4: student units and our work based learning program made almost
- 5:02Speaker 4: a million dollars from January to June in our work
- 5:06Speaker 4: based learning program that we have for high school students.
- 5:10Speaker 2: It's and I'll tell you, you know, I have seen
- 5:13Speaker 2: the work that you folks do out there at the
- 5:17Speaker 2: Career Technical Center in Eleanor and Putnam County, and it's
- 5:19Speaker 2: absolutely amazing. You're you're turning out some really good quality people,
- 5:24Speaker 2: and then we hope that we can keep them here.
- 5:25Speaker 2: And there's plenty of opportunities for them to stay here,
- 5:27Speaker 2: because here's what I found, guys, And I've spent time
- 5:30Speaker 2: at public schools, you know, talking to young students, whether
- 5:33Speaker 2: I was doing the Get a Life program Morgan that
- 5:35Speaker 2: you're very familiar with through the Treasurer's office and the
- 5:36Speaker 2: Putnam Chamber and some of these different things, when I
- 5:39Speaker 2: was in state government as well. It's spent a lot
- 5:40Speaker 2: of time in schools and you talk to a lot
- 5:42Speaker 2: of these young people. Many of them actually don't want
- 5:46Speaker 2: to leave West Virginia. They actually like it here, whether
- 5:49Speaker 2: they're the outdoors type or whatever the case may be,
- 5:51Speaker 2: their families here, they don't always want.
- 5:53Speaker 3: To go away.
- 5:53Speaker 2: And I think it's a good point Morgan that you
- 5:56Speaker 2: bring up that sometimes it's a communication issue, is that
- 5:59Speaker 2: they think that these things aren't available, but they are available,
- 6:02Speaker 2: as you as you guys have talked about Morgan.
- 6:05Speaker 5: Yeah, absolutely, And to highlight something CD said, you know,
- 6:10Speaker 5: what someone grows up thinking they want to do may
- 6:13Speaker 5: not be something they can do in West Virginia. You know,
- 6:16Speaker 5: if they if they want to get into. For some reason, Dave,
- 6:19Speaker 5: it seems like so many of our young ladies wanted
- 6:23Speaker 5: to be marine biologists. When I ask them, I'm like,
- 6:26Speaker 5: I don't know where this is coming from, but you're
- 6:29Speaker 5: more than likely not going to be a marine biologist
- 6:31Speaker 5: and landlocked mountain state here. But what we're trying to
- 6:35Speaker 5: do in this collaboration with Hometown Advantage is tell our
- 6:39Speaker 5: young people and their families what careers are here, so
- 6:43Speaker 5: at a younger age, they can start thinking about what
- 6:46Speaker 5: is available. And again, to CD's point, if we're teaching
- 6:50Speaker 5: for things that aren't here, then we're basically exporting our talent.
- 6:53Speaker 5: So what we want to do is we want to
- 6:55Speaker 5: educate them for what's in right in our backyard. And
- 6:59Speaker 5: that's why we have such great collaboration with Toyota, for example,
- 7:03Speaker 5: with like the four T program, which is production for
- 7:06Speaker 5: high school students, and then we have the same program
- 7:09Speaker 5: that's skilled maintenance at a post secondary level. We're trying
- 7:14Speaker 5: to show our local residents that there are good paying careers.
- 7:18Speaker 5: It may just not be you know, I think I've
- 7:21Speaker 5: said this to you before, Dave. It may not be
- 7:23Speaker 5: what you thought you were going to grow up to
- 7:24Speaker 5: be right, there are good paying careers that are here.
- 7:28Speaker 2: We're talking again with Morgan, Tenny and CD callwell and
- 7:31Speaker 2: we're going to get to their actual event that they have,
- 7:32Speaker 2: which is coming up next week. I do want to
- 7:34Speaker 2: remind you though, at the Dave Island Show on five
- 7:35Speaker 2: eighty Live is brought to you in part by Morgan
- 7:37Speaker 2: and Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. If you're injured,
- 7:40Speaker 2: visit for the people dot com. All right, So next
- 7:44Speaker 2: week big event Thursday the twenty third, five until eight
- 7:46Speaker 2: at the Career at Tech Center in Eleanor. And this
- 7:49Speaker 2: has gone on for how many gears? CD, This is
- 7:52Speaker 2: this thing going on?
- 7:54Speaker 4: This is the second annual event.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Okay, I thought we did.
- 7:56Speaker 2: I thought it was older than I apologize. So this
- 7:58Speaker 2: is the second one.
- 7:59Speaker 4: We've been doing career fairs for years. We'd have them
- 8:02Speaker 4: in the middle of today and the employers weren't getting
- 8:06Speaker 4: what they wanted the students. It wasn't what I for
- 8:11Speaker 4: wanted it to be. I wanted something with community engagement.
- 8:15Speaker 4: I wanted something for the students that really wanted to
- 8:17Speaker 4: invest their time talking to employers to have a space.
- 8:21Speaker 4: I wanted a place for those students to bring their families,
- 8:25Speaker 4: just not our current students. We had middle school pairs
- 8:27Speaker 4: bringing their students last year to not only talk to employers,
- 8:30Speaker 4: but to go in our classrooms. Our classrooms is going
- 8:33Speaker 4: to be open, so that way kind of shows full
- 8:35Speaker 4: circle of training at our school and then being able
- 8:39Speaker 4: to talk to employers about, you know, what skills they need.
- 8:43Speaker 4: So with the help of the Development Authority and us,
- 8:46Speaker 4: we've turned this into a community event that's good for
- 8:50Speaker 4: everyone in our region. Just not putting count.
- 8:52Speaker 2: And again, it's going to be next Thursday night from
- 8:54Speaker 2: five until eight to the Career in Tech Center in Elbador.
- 8:56Speaker 2: And you've extended it an hour, right because then't it
- 8:58Speaker 2: in last year at seven?
- 9:01Speaker 6: It did.
- 9:01Speaker 5: Yeah, So we kicked this off last year and we
- 9:05Speaker 5: had it from five to seven. But what was amazing, Dave,
- 9:08Speaker 5: we had over fifty local companies attend who were actively hiring.
- 9:13Speaker 5: They all had a position that needed filled. So we
- 9:16Speaker 5: knew that we had great employer work employer turnout, but
- 9:20Speaker 5: we didn't know how many people were going to show
- 9:22Speaker 5: up that were going to be job seekers. And what
- 9:25Speaker 5: was incredible was in a two hour time span we
- 9:27Speaker 5: had over twelve hundred people come through the doors Career
- 9:30Speaker 5: and Technical Center. I mean, we were just blown away.
- 9:33Speaker 5: So we realized this year, okay, we've got am things
- 9:35Speaker 5: up a little bit. We're extending an hour. We have
- 9:38Speaker 5: a Family Fund Zone. This year, we noticed a few
- 9:41Speaker 5: people had to bring their kids along. Kids are absolutely welcome,
- 9:44Speaker 5: and we actually have an entire area that's going to
- 9:48Speaker 5: be available for them with a bounce house, thanks to
- 9:50Speaker 5: Family Wealth Group for sponsoring that. So we're trying to
- 9:54Speaker 5: expand upon our year last year. And you know, Dave,
- 9:59Speaker 5: I've got a I've got a compliment CD here. He'll
- 10:02Speaker 5: punch me across the tables. But you know, I'm a
- 10:05Speaker 5: graduate of a Putnam County High school and I never
- 10:09Speaker 5: stuck foot in Putnam Career and Technical Center as a student.
- 10:13Speaker 5: So the fact that we have students that are interviewing
- 10:17Speaker 5: that want to go to Putnam Career and Technical Center
- 10:20Speaker 5: and maybe even a waiting list for some of the
- 10:22Speaker 5: classes at Putnam Career and Technical Center just shows the
- 10:25Speaker 5: change in that perception over the last twenty years. And
- 10:30Speaker 5: I just want to commend him for that. But this
- 10:32Speaker 5: also serves us an open house, as he mentioned, so
- 10:35Speaker 5: even for people who just want to know what it
- 10:37Speaker 5: looks like like, come see a welding class, comes see
- 10:40Speaker 5: the carpentry class.
- 10:42Speaker 7: Like.
- 10:42Speaker 5: It doesn't have to be just for job seekers. It
- 10:44Speaker 5: can be anybody who's just wanting to understand what we
- 10:48Speaker 5: have in our community at the Career and Tech Center
- 10:51Speaker 5: and then also what do we have in our region
- 10:53Speaker 5: in terms of available careers.
- 10:55Speaker 2: And again, the event is going to be next Thursday night.
- 10:57Speaker 2: I will mention that our sister stations Superstark Country ninety
- 11:00Speaker 2: six to one KWUS will be broadcasting live from there.
- 11:03Speaker 2: I am going to be doing the duties next week
- 11:04Speaker 2: there in eleanor broadcasting on KWS. So I'm certainly looking
- 11:08Speaker 2: forward to it. Now, if you're an employer, can you
- 11:11Speaker 2: still sign up to be there?
- 11:13Speaker 5: Absolutely, we would love for you to sign up. You
- 11:15Speaker 5: can do it at PCDA dot org slash Hometown Advantage.
- 11:20Speaker 5: It is free, and that's thanks to a partnership between
- 11:24Speaker 5: Putnam County Schools and Putnam County Development Authority and those
- 11:28Speaker 5: who invest in us DAVE. So this is free not
- 11:30Speaker 5: only for employers to come, but also for any job
- 11:34Speaker 5: seekers or anybody in the community that wants to come.
- 11:37Speaker 4: Everything is free We're not going to some things we
- 11:40Speaker 4: experienced last year. We're not going to run off flyers
- 11:43Speaker 4: and stuff to the last minute. So if a business
- 11:46Speaker 4: wants to come in last minute, let us know two
- 11:49Speaker 4: o'clock day up, we'll take you. We won't find a
- 11:51Speaker 4: place for you last year. We have people parking at
- 11:54Speaker 4: the Pigley Wiggley and we're going to have shuttle parking setup.
- 11:58Speaker 4: We're we gon have school buses designated people between the
- 12:02Speaker 4: GW schools and our parking lots, so we'll have shuttles available.
- 12:07Speaker 4: We're going to have food. We usually like to have food,
- 12:10Speaker 4: so our pro Start class is going to be having
- 12:12Speaker 4: a nacho bar set up, so they'll be snacks and stuff.
- 12:17Speaker 4: One of the reason we're running it from five to
- 12:18Speaker 4: eight is we have there's a lot of practices and
- 12:21Speaker 4: stuff going on in Putnam County and a lot of
- 12:23Speaker 4: students weren't able to make it because of practices. Hopefully
- 12:26Speaker 4: by extending its eight o'clock we'll catch a tael into
- 12:28Speaker 4: some of those students that will be able to come
- 12:30Speaker 4: over with their families and talk to different organizations.
- 12:34Speaker 2: All right, guys, I'm looking forward to it, and we'll
- 12:36Speaker 2: be talking about it between now and then at the
- 12:38Speaker 2: event is next Thursday night. That's twenty third from five
- 12:41Speaker 2: ton til A. That the Career and Technical Center in Eleanor,
- 12:44Speaker 2: right on the main drag there. You cannot miss it.
- 12:47Speaker 2: And it's from five until a. And again our sister
- 12:49Speaker 2: station KWS. I'll I'll be putting on the cowboy hat
- 12:52Speaker 2: that night because I'm going to be there broadcasting live
- 12:54Speaker 2: in Superstar Country KWUS. Looking forward to seeing both of
- 12:56Speaker 2: you there and we'll talk again soon. Thanks a lot, guys, great.
- 12:59Speaker 5: Work, Thanks Dave. Looking forward to seeing you in cowboy hat.
- 13:04Speaker 2: All right, Thank you guys. CD calledwell and again morgantin.
- 13:08Speaker 2: It is a great event, by the way, and again
- 13:10Speaker 2: last year was the first year they did it, and
- 13:12Speaker 2: I was there last year as well, and I mean
- 13:14Speaker 2: there were people everywhere, and he's not exaggerating, and you know,
- 13:17Speaker 2: Eleanor is not that big of a place. Okay, they're
- 13:21Speaker 2: not exaggerating when they say that they had to run.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Well this year they're doing shuttles. They had people parked
- 13:26Speaker 2: everywhere there. Last year, I mean a couple thousand people
- 13:29Speaker 2: came through the door. And again, it's not that big
- 13:31Speaker 2: of a facility. Anyway, so they we want to try
- 13:34Speaker 2: to get many people there, but if it keeps up
- 13:36Speaker 2: like it is, they may have to look at maybe
- 13:37Speaker 2: doing it over a couple of days, or maybe doing it,
- 13:40Speaker 2: you know, longer timeframe or something.
- 13:43Speaker 3: But I don't know.
- 13:43Speaker 2: It's gonna be a great event. And again that we'll
- 13:45Speaker 2: be telling you more about it as we get a
- 13:46Speaker 2: little bit closer. Nine twenty one The Dave Island Show

- 16:29Speaker 2: want to introduce you now to a couple of guys
- 16:31Speaker 2: in our studio this morning. Larry Jackson, who's a candidate
- 16:34Speaker 2: for Congress and district won of Dick Keller. They call
- 16:36Speaker 2: him the average just the average dude. Now, Larry, want
- 16:40Speaker 2: to start with you because because we're going to get
- 16:43Speaker 2: to your candidacy here in a moment. But I want
- 16:45Speaker 2: to talk about this Second Amendment tour. You've been on
- 16:49Speaker 2: big event held last night at the Marriott, and actually
- 16:51Speaker 2: I will switch gears and Dick, I'm gonna go to
- 16:53Speaker 2: you first. Talk about this movement. Why is this in
- 16:56Speaker 2: the Second Amendment movement? Why is this so important to you?
- 17:00Speaker 13: It's so important?
- 17:00Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 17:01Speaker 13: Oh boy. Well, I used to live across the street
- 17:06Speaker 13: in Washington, d C. Still live in the same place
- 17:09Speaker 13: for forty nine years, but it used to be an
- 17:11Speaker 13: infamous drug den on Capitol Hill, just a dozen blocks
- 17:17Speaker 13: behind the Capitol building. And two things. I had a
- 17:21Speaker 13: couple of bullet holes in my house. I figured, Gee,
- 17:25Speaker 13: it'd be nice to be armed. And then at two
- 17:29Speaker 13: o'clock every morning, sixteen rounds of nine millimeter went off
- 17:35Speaker 13: to indicate the close of drug trade for the day.
- 17:39Speaker 13: And I'd been a paratrooper and didn't have a gun,
- 17:43Speaker 13: and the city passed a law that says you couldn't
- 17:46Speaker 13: have a gun, so I figured maybe I should go
- 17:50Speaker 13: get my first gun. So when I started this fight,
- 17:53Speaker 13: I wasn't even I was a sub average gun dude,
- 17:58Speaker 13: and then I went and bought a gun. So my
- 18:00Speaker 13: motto is now I am an average gun due average dude.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Do I think you might be above average with all
- 18:05Speaker 2: of this, all this thing that you've been working on,
- 18:08Speaker 2: and talk about the tour what exactly has gone on?
- 18:10Speaker 2: Because you guys have been all over the place. They
- 18:12Speaker 2: had an event at to Mary out last night, and Larry,
- 18:13Speaker 2: I'm not going to leave you out. I promise I'm
- 18:15Speaker 2: gonna get to you here one one second. But talk
- 18:17Speaker 2: about this tour and what you hope to accomplish and
- 18:20Speaker 2: where you've been.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Break it down for us.
- 18:22Speaker 13: Well, what's interesting. Larry's the master on that. But what
- 18:26Speaker 13: what I do recognize is that from my knowledge of voting,
- 18:32Speaker 13: people need to know what a man stands for instead
- 18:36Speaker 13: of just pulling the party lever, and they need to
- 18:40Speaker 13: know that somebody stands for their values, not just because
- 18:45Speaker 13: they're in office, but they need to be booted out
- 18:48Speaker 13: of office by people that have the real same standards,
- 18:52Speaker 13: constitutional standards that most of us have. So when I
- 18:57Speaker 13: found out that Larry had been lawfu a big term
- 19:01Speaker 13: in DC. I don't know if it is out here,
- 19:04Speaker 13: but Larry got last law fired.
- 19:07Speaker 2: And explain what lawfair it is for those ts.
- 19:08Speaker 13: Okay, lawfairs when you take the force of government and
- 19:13Speaker 13: and and appropriately use it against your opponents, okay, or
- 19:18Speaker 13: somebody that's against your agenda. So Larry is a first
- 19:24Speaker 13: and second and fourth Amendment agenda dude, He's a constitutionalist.
- 19:28Speaker 13: And when I found out he had been law faired,
- 19:31Speaker 13: he had been unjust unjustifiably labeled, and I figured somethings
- 19:43Speaker 13: I can I got to help this guy.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Had been Larry. I'll let you jump in if you want.
- 19:47Speaker 3: How do you feel you were unfairly labeled? What happened?
- 19:50Speaker 14: Well, I have been fighting with the West Virginia DNR
- 19:53Speaker 14: for the last two years now. My home was rated,
- 19:58Speaker 14: Fourth Amendment was violated, took my phone, took the deer
- 20:03Speaker 14: that I harvested, and this is drug out now for
- 20:06Speaker 14: two years and it was all because of a couple
- 20:09Speaker 14: of anonymous calls.
- 20:10Speaker 3: So a lot of lies. Now, what was their reason
- 20:14Speaker 3: for doing this.
- 20:14Speaker 2: I mean, obviously you feel it was unjustified, and I
- 20:16Speaker 2: get that, but what was their reasoning behind it.
- 20:19Speaker 14: Their reasoning behind it was that the anonymous callers called
- 20:24Speaker 14: in that I killed this deer with a rifle in
- 20:25Speaker 14: the bowong the county, So.
- 20:28Speaker 3: It was all lies. There is proof. I have the proof.
- 20:32Speaker 14: That you know the injury they were saying was a
- 20:35Speaker 14: rifle wound that killed the animal. The animal was walking
- 20:39Speaker 14: around with two days prior with that same injury. I've
- 20:42Speaker 14: got pictures of it. So you know the eighty thousand
- 20:46Speaker 14: that I've spent in the last two years fighting this
- 20:49Speaker 14: for the people. It wasn't about me. They wanted me
- 20:51Speaker 14: to walk away with a twenty dollars guilty plea and
- 20:56Speaker 14: be done. But it took them four months of sitting
- 20:59Speaker 14: and searching through my phone illegally to come up with anything,
- 21:02Speaker 14: and they eventually charged me with hunting without a license. Again,
- 21:06Speaker 14: this was a fact that I fought for all West Virginians.
- 21:10Speaker 14: It wasn't for me. I knew I didn't do anything wrong,
- 21:14Speaker 14: So I want to stop this, stop this type of
- 21:16Speaker 14: stuff from happening to other folks.
- 21:18Speaker 3: So this is why you decided to run.
- 21:20Speaker 14: No, no, it's there's a lot as far as running.
- 21:25Speaker 14: I'm from Wyoming County. We have a major water issue there.
- 21:30Speaker 14: People can't get clean water, clean drinking water. The roads
- 21:34Speaker 14: are falling apart. There is no jobs. The coal industry
- 21:39Speaker 14: is you know, coal is cot. When it's good, it's good.
- 21:42Speaker 14: When it's bad, it's bad. We need to bring more
- 21:44Speaker 14: jobs into southern West Virginia. We need to fix the infrastructure.
- 21:47Speaker 14: We need to be listening to what people are saying.
- 21:50Speaker 14: And I feel I'm the best person for that job.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Give me some of your backgrounds of your bride. I
- 21:55Speaker 2: mean other than this story, I mean just who is
- 21:56Speaker 2: Larry Jackson's well, talk about you as a person.
- 21:59Speaker 14: I grew up, born and raised Wyoming County, well part
- 22:02Speaker 14: of Mioming County.
- 22:02Speaker 2: If you don't, my man Hanover, Okay, I know it well.
- 22:07Speaker 14: So I was born and raised in Wyoming County, like
- 22:10Speaker 14: most in southern West Virginia, at or near the poverty line.
- 22:15Speaker 14: So I know what it's like to go to bed Hungary.
- 22:17Speaker 14: I know what it's like to worry about getting bills paid.
- 22:21Speaker 14: I worked hard to come out of that. I now
- 22:25Speaker 14: own a business Eastern Equipment. I run a successful business.
- 22:30Speaker 14: And I never forget where I came from or what
- 22:35Speaker 14: I came from. I have six children, been married for
- 22:39Speaker 14: twenty three years to my high school sweetheart. Together we
- 22:42Speaker 14: have six children. And again, you know, I'm not a politician.
- 22:48Speaker 14: I am doing what the people are wanting done, and
- 22:51Speaker 14: the people are not happy.
- 22:54Speaker 3: And Dick SoundBite. I love that. And Dick, you have
- 22:59Speaker 3: officially indoor right.
- 23:01Speaker 2: The Larry is my man, the Larry. I got your
- 23:05Speaker 2: own brand now, the Larry, the Larry. What is it,
- 23:08Speaker 2: Dick that you I mean again, you're you live in
- 23:11Speaker 2: d C.
- 23:11Speaker 3: Whatever? What what made I mean?
- 23:13Speaker 2: You followed his case, obviously, but what is it that
- 23:15Speaker 2: made you That's one thing. But you obviously saw southern
- 23:18Speaker 2: him that made you want to get behind his campaign?
- 23:20Speaker 3: What was that?
- 23:21Speaker 13: Well, in Washington, it's a it's a swamp of mingling
- 23:26Speaker 13: and just you just meet people from all over America. Uh,
- 23:30Speaker 13: come to the Soviet District and we meet up. And
- 23:35Speaker 13: I heard his story and I said, I can't believe
- 23:37Speaker 13: this law Fair. The cancer of Lawfair of the Washington
- 23:42Speaker 13: swamp obviously has spread to West Virginia.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Okay, So so you decide to run for Congress and
- 23:51Speaker 2: you've officially filed, and so I remembered, I guess you will. Whatever,
- 23:55Speaker 2: So you're gonna be running, and you'll be I don't
- 23:58Speaker 2: know exactly who else is gonna running, but obviously Carol
- 24:01Speaker 2: Miller is in the is in that seat. Now, what
- 24:04Speaker 2: would you do differently than what Congresswoman Miller's done.
- 24:08Speaker 14: One of the biggest things that I would do differently
- 24:12Speaker 14: than what she is is listen to the people. That's
- 24:17Speaker 14: one of the biggest complaints. As I'm out meeting people
- 24:21Speaker 14: talking with them, a lot of them doesn't even know
- 24:24Speaker 14: who she is, unfortunately, and that's that's sad that that's
- 24:29Speaker 14: probably the biggest thing, is listening to the people and
- 24:32Speaker 14: taking their concerns back to Washington.
- 24:35Speaker 2: And you talked about the infrastructure issues, particularly in this district,
- 24:39Speaker 2: and of course we have only two districts now basically
- 24:41Speaker 2: you can be defined as as the central Southern and
- 24:44Speaker 2: then everything north of that, and so that's it's a
- 24:46Speaker 2: very very big district. And a lot of the issues
- 24:51Speaker 2: are going to be different from Charleston to Hanover, but
- 24:55Speaker 2: a lot of are going to be the same because
- 24:57Speaker 2: we hear the infrastructure issue talked about know whether or
- 24:59Speaker 2: whether it's a larger city like Charleston or whether it's
- 25:02Speaker 2: you know, Hanover. Yeah, a lot of the issues are
- 25:04Speaker 2: the same.
- 25:05Speaker 14: Absolutely. The infrastructure. You know, as you're riding through Southern
- 25:10Speaker 14: West Virginia District one, the infrastructure, it's just, you know,
- 25:16Speaker 14: roads are falling apart. Now, obviously it is different in
- 25:19Speaker 14: Hanover than it is here in Charleston. Here in Charleston,
- 25:21Speaker 14: the roads are not falling out into the river like
- 25:24Speaker 14: they are in Hanover. But we definitely have a lot
- 25:27Speaker 14: of work to do there, and I can't in good
- 25:30Speaker 14: faith continue to watch money be sent overseas while we
- 25:35Speaker 14: sit here and do without. Where's our money going?
- 25:38Speaker 2: What's your idea for the campaign? Because obviously, and I
- 25:42Speaker 2: don't mean this in a derogatory way, but any time
- 25:44Speaker 2: that you are going to get up against somebody who
- 25:46Speaker 2: is an established political figure like Congressman Miller is, it
- 25:50Speaker 2: doesn't matter what side of the alley you're on, it's
- 25:52Speaker 2: always difficult to go after somebody that's in incumbent. What
- 25:54Speaker 2: is your what's your plan?
- 25:56Speaker 14: My plan is to engage with voters. I have been
- 25:59Speaker 14: doing that for the last almost year now. I announced
- 26:03Speaker 14: in November of last year. So I've been out meeting
- 26:06Speaker 14: with voters, listening to the concerns, educating them, and letting
- 26:11Speaker 14: them know that, you know, independence, you need to get
- 26:14Speaker 14: registered as Republican if you want to vote for me,
- 26:16Speaker 14: because I am Republican. And next your primary is closed.
- 26:20Speaker 14: So I've been engaging with the voters, informing them, letting
- 26:24Speaker 14: them know what they need to do. That's my plan
- 26:29Speaker 14: going forward as well.
- 26:30Speaker 2: And if I don't know that anything like this are planned,
- 26:33Speaker 2: but if there were to be a debate or a
- 26:36Speaker 2: forum or something like that involving Congresswoman Miller or whomever
- 26:41Speaker 2: else may be running, was that something you'd be willing
- 26:44Speaker 2: to take part in.
- 26:44Speaker 14: I have and I've actually made a statement on that
- 26:48Speaker 14: as well.
- 26:49Speaker 3: I will debate.
- 26:50Speaker 14: The only stipulation is everyone that may be in the
- 26:55Speaker 14: race has to debate. No one's getting a free pass
- 26:58Speaker 14: with me. I stand firm on that. The one is
- 27:00Speaker 14: getting just to free pass with me.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Okay, again, where Todd to Larry Jackson is going to
- 27:04Speaker 2: be a candidate for car Actually he's a candidate for
- 27:07Speaker 2: Congress in Industry one. But obviously you're aligned with mister
- 27:11Speaker 2: Heller here. He's given you the endorsement what's And we
- 27:14Speaker 2: know you told us your story what happened, But why
- 27:17Speaker 2: your story, notwithstanding if it said never happened to you,
- 27:20Speaker 2: What is it about the Second Amendment that's so important
- 27:22Speaker 2: to you?
- 27:22Speaker 14: The Second Amendment is under attack, it has been for
- 27:26Speaker 14: a while. The Second Amendment is clearer the right of
- 27:29Speaker 14: the people to keeping bare arms shall not be infringed.
- 27:31Speaker 14: Somewhere along the way, our government has infringed extremely about
- 27:37Speaker 14: on the Second Amendment.
- 27:39Speaker 3: And the Second.
- 27:39Speaker 14: Amendment is the only amendment that protects all your other rights.
- 27:44Speaker 14: Without the Second you have no others.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Dick's over here doing like my dad used to do
- 27:48Speaker 2: in church, going on. Huh, yeah, amen, you want to
- 27:51Speaker 2: add in on that, Dick.
- 27:53Speaker 13: Well, what I've noticed the pattern is once they found
- 27:56Speaker 13: they could start infringing on the Second Amendment, why go
- 28:00Speaker 13: the First Amendments started coming close on its heels.
- 28:06Speaker 2: I will say this, I think we got a big
- 28:08Speaker 2: First Amendment issue going on right now, a huge, a
- 28:11Speaker 2: huge and that's the one that both sides have champion
- 28:15Speaker 2: until they didn't want it anymore, you know. Yeah, And unfortunately,
- 28:19Speaker 2: if the First Amendment comes, you know, it comes with
- 28:22Speaker 2: some baggage. I guess from time to time.
- 28:24Speaker 14: Well, our rights come from God, they don't come from government.
- 28:30Speaker 14: The rights enshrined in the Constitution, those are just that rights,
- 28:34Speaker 14: and the government seemed to have them confused with rights
- 28:39Speaker 14: and privileges. Privileges you can give and take. You know,
- 28:43Speaker 14: it's kind of like a driver's license. That's a privilege.
- 28:45Speaker 14: We can all agree to that. You can have that
- 28:47Speaker 14: privilege revoked for for some reason, whether that be citations
- 28:51Speaker 14: or whatever. Rights you cannot. A right and a privilege
- 28:55Speaker 14: are different, you know, right, you just can't take and
- 28:57Speaker 14: give back or juggle around. And the First Amendment is
- 29:01Speaker 14: coming under siege right now. And I'm a constitutionalist.
- 29:06Speaker 2: What's your definition of constitutionalist.
- 29:10Speaker 11: For me?
- 29:11Speaker 14: If the Constitution says it, it's pretty clear. And that's
- 29:14Speaker 14: what we're going to live by.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Dick talked about the swamp, that is DC. If you
- 29:20Speaker 2: are elected and you go to d C, how do
- 29:22Speaker 2: you make sure you don't become a member of as
- 29:25Speaker 2: you say, the swamp.
- 29:26Speaker 3: I'll be there. You got to answer to the dude
- 29:29Speaker 3: over here.
- 29:31Speaker 14: You know, I'm no politician. I have I believe in
- 29:39Speaker 14: term limits. I believe that's one way of fixing that
- 29:41Speaker 14: because most of the people that are in there now,
- 29:44Speaker 14: they've came from political backgrounds, political dynasties. I am a
- 29:51Speaker 14: firm believer in term limits, which is what voting is.
- 29:57Speaker 1: You know.
- 29:57Speaker 14: That's why we have representatives elected every two years, so
- 30:00Speaker 14: that power does lay with the people. Right now, unfortunately,
- 30:03Speaker 14: the people aren't exercising that power.
- 30:05Speaker 3: We see that.
- 30:08Speaker 14: A lot of people and the numbers are staggering at
- 30:12Speaker 14: the voters that just doesn't get out and vote.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Why do you think that is?
- 30:16Speaker 14: It's been this way so long in southern West Virginia
- 30:18Speaker 14: any anyway, in District one, this seat has been held
- 30:24Speaker 14: by a career politician since nineteen seventy seven. Now that
- 30:27Speaker 14: was before my time. I was born in eighty two.
- 30:30Speaker 14: How much further back it goes in that I don't know.
- 30:32Speaker 14: I have not researched it. But at least since nineteen
- 30:34Speaker 14: seventy seven, this seat has been held by career politician.
- 30:37Speaker 14: And folks wonder why are we not seeing anything? Why
- 30:42Speaker 14: are we not getting a changed? So back to your question,
- 30:46Speaker 14: I have decided to term limit myself. I have signed
- 30:49Speaker 14: a term limit pledge. Again, I'm no politician. I've got
- 30:54Speaker 14: my career, I've got my family. I just want to
- 30:57Speaker 14: make a change for the people. And then get back
- 30:59Speaker 14: to that.
- 31:00Speaker 3: Where can people go? Ahead?
- 31:01Speaker 13: Dickton, could I add to that? Ye, I don't have
- 31:04Speaker 13: the answer to why, but I can tell you what
- 31:07Speaker 13: is now. What I'm always harping on is that comrade
- 31:12Speaker 13: Governor Hokel, Kathy Hokel, governor of New York, won by
- 31:17Speaker 13: three hundred and twenty seven thousand votes. Now that's good
- 31:21Speaker 13: news for her. The bad news is that sixty four percent.
- 31:26Speaker 13: And I hope this irritates some people in DC in
- 31:31Speaker 13: West Virginia so they become a hero to their kids,
- 31:34Speaker 13: take them to the poll and see their parents voting
- 31:38Speaker 13: for their freedom. Because in New York, sixty sixty four
- 31:43Speaker 13: percent of the gun owners and Hunter did not get
- 31:46Speaker 13: off the couch and vote, to the tune of three
- 31:49Speaker 13: point two million gun owners did not vote in New York,
- 31:54Speaker 13: ten times the margin that Comrade Hokel won by.
- 32:00Speaker 2: Interesting point, Larry, I appreciate you being here. We got
- 32:03Speaker 2: to wrap it up.
- 32:03Speaker 3: I'm gonna give you well.
- 32:04Speaker 2: First of all, I want to ask you about where
- 32:06Speaker 2: can people learn more? You have website, social media and
- 32:09Speaker 2: where you got.
- 32:09Speaker 14: Yes, we are on social media, Jackson for US Congress
- 32:13Speaker 14: on Facebook. They can also find me on the website
- 32:17Speaker 14: that is www dot Jackson for WV dot com, Jackson
- 32:22Speaker 14: for fo R WV dot com.
- 32:25Speaker 2: And as I do with every candidate, no matter whether
- 32:27Speaker 2: they're running for Congress or county commission, it's always the
- 32:29Speaker 2: same final question. Give me thirty seconds, and.
- 32:32Speaker 3: I'm not actually gonna time it.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Give me about thirty seconds on why people should vote
- 32:37Speaker 2: for you.
- 32:38Speaker 14: If you're looking for change and you're looking for more opportunity,
- 32:44Speaker 14: then I'm obviously the better candidate. If you're looking for
- 32:46Speaker 14: your rights to be held with upheld, I'm actually it's
- 32:51Speaker 14: a clear choice. Get out, vote, make a difference, learn
- 32:56Speaker 14: about me, come out, hear me, and make a difference.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Success and you're very accessible, all right, Larry, appreciate you
- 33:03Speaker 2: being here. Dick, pleasure to meet you as well. Appreciate
