- 0:36what's going on everybody
- 0:37welcome to lunchtime lunch
- 0:39with the Clydesdale man I
- 0:41am out of it today uh whoo
- 0:45woke up this morning and my
- 0:47head is full I have some
- 0:49kind of summer cold um I
- 0:52was finally like getting
- 0:53past allergy season and
- 0:55I've been blowing my nose
- 0:56non-stop all morning
- 0:58hopefully I can get through
- 0:59the show my my left eye is
- 1:02watering so bad um
- 1:07But yeah, who knows?
- 1:08Maybe it will help me with
- 1:10my accuracy on the dart.
- 1:13Here we go.
- 1:16Oh, gosh, that was awful.
- 1:20Terrible, man.
- 1:22Yesterday gave me hope.
- 1:24Today, it's all wilted away.
- 1:28What is going on, Jody?
- 1:29What's going on, Meredith, Holly, Andrew,
- 1:32C-Zero-Zero-One?
- 1:35Good to see you all here.
- 1:39Andrew,
- 1:39I just finished season four of
- 1:43Welcome to Wrexham.
- 1:46Really good.
- 1:47Is it me or are their
- 1:48seasons getting shorter and shorter?
- 1:53I want more.
- 1:55And they just seem to be
- 1:56getting shorter and shorter.
- 1:57So while I love the show dearly,
- 2:04it felt like this year was
- 2:05like eight episodes.
- 2:11And they didn't answer how
- 2:12the women's team ended up
- 2:14because they were on the
- 2:19brink of relegation when we
- 2:24last saw them.
- 2:28So anyway,
- 2:29I just wanted to find out what
- 2:31was happening there.
- 2:32It's awesome that they got
- 2:34their third promotion in a row.
- 2:40women ended up in fourth
- 2:42nice good um so yeah adult
- 2:52conversation aaron frazier
- 2:54uh says adult conversation
- 2:56we going into db no no I
- 3:00talked about it sunday
- 3:00night I didn't want to talk
- 3:02about it then but we did
- 3:04I don't have anything to add
- 3:06to this that hasn't already
- 3:07been said by dense updates
- 3:10or Savan or the people that
- 3:13are following this really closely.
- 3:14I've been watching them,
- 3:16so I know what's going on,
- 3:17but I don't really have
- 3:18anything to add that they
- 3:20haven't already said.
- 3:22The adult conversation comes from.
- 3:26It's a weird world we live
- 3:28in these days on the internet.
- 3:31And being on the internet, like YouTube,
- 3:33like we've done over a thousand episodes,
- 3:35right?
- 3:36We're out there.
- 3:37We make reels from what we say.
- 3:39We put them out on Instagram.
- 3:41And so I got this weird DM.
- 3:48You know,
- 3:49I've been banging the drum
- 3:50against Metfix ever since, like I felt...
- 3:54like they're going in the
- 3:55wrong direction and that they are going,
- 4:01that they're using smoke
- 4:02and mirrors and they're not
- 4:05really there to help.
- 4:07I really truly feel like it's a money grab,
- 4:12an affiliate grab.
- 4:14And I went into trying to
- 4:17figure all this out
- 4:20and giving them the benefit
- 4:21of the doubt to like
- 4:22totally losing faith in
- 4:23what they're doing on the
- 4:25other end of this.
- 4:27So anyway,
- 4:28I don't want to beat a dead horse.
- 4:29We've, we've done that all week.
- 4:32So I get a DM from a
- 4:34longtime friend that I,
- 4:35I met in the volunteer space, gosh,
- 4:39probably back, we've been friends.
- 4:44He's actually been on this
- 4:45show a couple of times.
- 4:48And he writes me a letter saying,
- 4:52why are you bashing MedFix?
- 4:54They're just here trying to
- 4:56help people get healthy.
- 5:01If that's your answer to this,
- 5:05tell me how.
- 5:07Just tell me how.
- 5:09But no,
- 5:10it says they're just here to get
- 5:11people healthy.
- 5:14And because of that, I am unfollowing you,
- 5:19and this will be the last
- 5:21time I turn on your channel,
- 5:25which he has every right to do.
- 5:27Everybody in the world can
- 5:28turn the channel if they
- 5:29don't like what they're hearing.
- 5:31My question is,
- 5:35we can't have a conversation about this?
- 5:39You and I have a differing
- 5:41opinion on one subject.
- 5:46On one thing,
- 5:46we've been friends for over ten years.
- 5:51We've hung out at CrossFit competitions.
- 5:55We have a good time when we hang out.
- 5:59But rather than have the conversation,
- 6:02you're just going to turn it off.
- 6:04And make sure you let me
- 6:05know that you're going to turn it off.
- 6:12When I put out these reels,
- 6:13when I put out these podcasts,
- 6:15I'm giving you reasons why
- 6:16I don't believe that Metfix
- 6:19is what they're saying they are.
- 6:24If you don't believe that
- 6:25that is correct or I'm
- 6:31giving them the benefit of
- 6:32the doubt or that I'm not
- 6:34giving them the opportunity to answer,
- 6:38tell me why.
- 6:39Tell me what I'm missing
- 6:42that I need to see this.
- 6:46And apparently we just can't
- 6:50have those adult conversations anymore.
- 6:54And that's frustrating to me.
- 6:59When I created this channel way back when,
- 7:05And when it evolved into
- 7:06what I wanted it to be,
- 7:08I wanted it to be a place
- 7:10where people could come and
- 7:11talk about things.
- 7:12And it was okay that if you
- 7:14felt differently than I did
- 7:17and we could talk about it.
- 7:25And that's what I love about this, right?
- 7:27That we can come on here.
- 7:29You and I can disagree about something.
- 7:31We can talk about it and we
- 7:32can leave as friends.
- 7:35Because if we disagree about one thing,
- 7:38it doesn't mean we disagree
- 7:39about a hundred things.
- 7:46I just, I just found it like,
- 7:50and use it like, again,
- 7:51I have said over and over again,
- 7:53there are people that,
- 7:54that come at me like,
- 7:57I don't like Savant.
- 7:58Okay.
- 7:59Don't watch them.
- 8:01He's entitled to have his platform.
- 8:04He's entitled to have the airwaves.
- 8:07If you don't like it, don't listen to it.
- 8:10Nobody's telling you to go
- 8:11over there and do it.
- 8:14If you don't like what I'm saying,
- 8:15don't come listen.
- 8:17I'm sure there's lots of
- 8:18people that don't find me
- 8:20entertaining or that don't
- 8:21find me whatever.
- 8:28It's fine.
- 8:32But to make a statement at me like,
- 8:35I'm turning off your
- 8:35channel and I want you to know that I am,
- 8:38and give me no reason for why you think,
- 8:46to just say Metfix is just
- 8:47trying to help people,
- 8:49then you haven't been
- 8:50listening to what I said
- 8:51because there's evidence to the contrary.
- 8:54And let's have a
- 8:54conversation as to why you
- 8:56think I'm wrong.
- 9:00Anyway, sorry to get off on that note.
- 9:08People don't want to have
- 9:09adult conversations because they're hard.
- 9:11Many people now are soft and
- 9:13can't take a little bit of confrontation,
- 9:15and they won't want
- 9:17everything to be easy.
- 9:20This is a CrossFit community, right?
- 9:23When was the last CrossFit
- 9:25workout you did where you
- 9:26walked away going, whew, that was easy?
- 9:32I thought the people in this
- 9:33community looked for hard.
- 9:36They wanted hard.
- 9:38That's what makes them better.
- 9:44I don't know if I've ever
- 9:45walked away from a CrossFit
- 9:47workout and went, whoo-hoo,
- 9:49that was easy.
- 9:57Corey Leonard,
- 9:58I cannot wrap my head around
- 9:59people who think because
- 10:01they don't like something,
- 10:02it shouldn't exist.
- 10:08Tristan Patrick,
- 10:08they don't want that kind of hard.
- 10:16Crazy.
- 10:19Yeah.
- 10:25He also says a hard CrossFit
- 10:27workout is much easier than
- 10:29a hard conversation with conflict.
- 10:31But why does it have to have conflict?
- 10:32Why can't we just hear each other out?
- 10:39I don't understand why we
- 10:40can't accept that people
- 10:41have differing opinions.
- 10:42Anyway.
- 10:48Anyway.
- 10:51And while we're talking
- 10:52about hard conversations,
- 10:53I was watching Siobhan this
- 10:54morning in Ariel's interview with him.
- 10:57And she came on with the
- 11:03uncomfortable piece of, hey,
- 11:08we need to have a hard conversation.
- 11:11And she thought long and
- 11:12hard about going on the
- 11:13show because of what
- 11:14happened at the games last year.
- 11:16I don't want to get into all that.
- 11:17If you want to see that,
- 11:18go watch the interview.
- 11:20They talk through that a bit.
- 11:23But what I want to talk
- 11:24about is I want to know how
- 11:26in the world Don and the
- 11:29board created this scenario
- 11:36where they put Dave out
- 11:37there to be the scapegoat
- 11:39and all the hate is focused on him.
- 11:47Dave has bosses.
- 11:49He does not get to work in autonomy.
- 11:51He doesn't get to just
- 11:53blanketly blank make
- 11:55statements about everything.
- 11:57Yet everything that happened
- 11:59at last year's games has
- 12:01been dumped on his back.
- 12:05And you cannot convince me
- 12:07in the structure that is
- 12:08set up with CrossFit that
- 12:10the board and Don didn't
- 12:12have instructions for him.
- 12:21With the legal issues around
- 12:23everything that happened,
- 12:25I am sure he was given a
- 12:27strict set of things to
- 12:29abide by to not get them
- 12:32into more legal trouble and
- 12:34to push a message that the
- 12:37board and the CEO wanted to happen.
- 12:42And he just happened to be
- 12:44the person downhill that
- 12:46got the ball of shit that
- 12:48had to go out and deliver it.
- 12:52yet everybody in the world
- 12:54has focused their sights
- 12:57and their hate onto dave
- 12:59specifically it it is like
- 13:10I have an mba we have
- 13:13studied case studies where
- 13:14things like this happen
- 13:17I don't think I've ever seen
- 13:19a case study where the
- 13:21whole community went after the scapegoat.
- 13:25I don't think it's ever been
- 13:26done as well as this.
- 13:34They have pulled it off.
- 13:37This board of directors and Don Fall...
- 13:41have pulled off the greatest
- 13:44version of a scapegoat that
- 13:47I have seen in all my
- 13:49studying of case studies
- 13:52and now this so true dave
- 13:58hardly the problem shanna
- 14:01bunce he is the easiest one
- 14:02to be the scapegoat corey
- 14:06dave has bus tire tread
- 14:08marks pretty much tattooed
- 14:09on his back at this point
- 14:15Meredith,
- 14:15there's no way Dave went rogue
- 14:17with how he operated after
- 14:18the games last year,
- 14:20but he gets blamed like
- 14:21everything was up to him.
- 14:24Completely, completely agree.
- 14:30Now, was he part of the setup?
- 14:34Was he part of what was going on?
- 14:36He sure was.
- 14:39But he still reports to people.
- 14:43And there still were safety
- 14:44people on hand.
- 14:48And like I've said in previous shows, okay,
- 14:52he didn't get the verbiage
- 14:54right from what Luca said
- 14:56to talking to the athletes.
- 15:00Again,
- 15:01if I'm in that situation and I'm in
- 15:04the grieving process myself,
- 15:06how do I communicate
- 15:08immediately after this
- 15:09incident happens in a high
- 15:11pressure manner?
- 15:14Pressure cooker of the situation.
- 15:18I don't think I do that well.
- 15:22And I think that people are
- 15:24not putting their,
- 15:26they're not looking at it
- 15:27from the perspective of Dave.
- 15:29They're looking at it from
- 15:30their perspective and how hurt they were.
- 15:35I listened to Ariel say that
- 15:37Luca asked not to be
- 15:38paraded out and not to be shown on TV.
- 15:41I don't think Dave's in the
- 15:42director's booth telling
- 15:43the broadcast team to show
- 15:45Luca on the screen.
- 15:51Like everything is now being
- 15:53attributed to Dave.
- 15:54He,
- 15:55he's not picking the camera angle for
- 15:57the broadcast.
- 15:59And I love Ariel to death.
- 16:03But man,
- 16:03Don Fall and the board pulled one off.
- 16:10It may be the most cagey
- 16:12move they have ever pulled
- 16:13off since they've owned CrossFit.
- 16:30The athletes want to be celebrities.
- 16:31You don't get to pick when
- 16:32the camera's on you.
- 16:34Right.
- 16:37And we don't know that it
- 16:39was communicated to the
- 16:40broadcast team who are
- 16:42contracted to come in.
- 16:45If they made an agreement,
- 16:46CrossFit should have said to them,
- 16:47do not put Luca on screen.
- 16:50But if they weren't given
- 16:51those instructions, then you're right.
- 16:56You're a celebrity.
- 16:57You're probably going to be shown.
- 17:04Andrew Sten,
- 17:04I would hope that Dave told
- 17:05them of Luca's wishes,
- 17:06but they could have done it anyway.
- 17:13I would be curious how much, say,
- 17:14Dave had in the safety
- 17:16preparations for the event that day.
- 17:21We all know, if we followed this sport,
- 17:24that they were concerned over the heat.
- 17:26They changed the start time
- 17:29to accommodate things.
- 17:31Things were being changed.
- 17:34The one thing I would say
- 17:35that there was no dive team
- 17:36on hand was a big miss.
- 17:40A big miss.
- 17:40But who made that decision?
- 17:42I don't know.
- 17:43Was it a budget cut from the board?
- 17:45Was it a thing that they
- 17:46didn't think it would be needed?
- 17:49None of us will know that answer ever.
- 17:52Nobody will ever admit that for ten,
- 17:55twenty years.
- 18:06Didn't they fire the ones
- 18:07responsible for putting them on screen?
- 18:10The only media people that I
- 18:11know that got fired were
- 18:14the ones who took their
- 18:15media shirts and turned
- 18:17them inside out to make a
- 18:20boycott statement at the games.
- 18:25I don't know if they were
- 18:26the ones responsible for that.
- 18:39Emily,
- 18:39I believe that that is what she was
- 18:41fired for having her and
- 18:44her team turn their shirts
- 18:46inside out is what I believe happened.
- 18:58The issue is we never found
- 19:00out if the number of
- 19:00lifeguards was appropriate,
- 19:02why there was no diving team,
- 19:03what the lifeguards qualifications were,
- 19:06etc.
- 19:06So there hasn't been any sort of closure.
- 19:10I don't disagree with you, Lita.
- 19:12Those things,
- 19:13I'm sure were in that report
- 19:15that none of us have seen,
- 19:17but I don't know why it's
- 19:19all thrown at Dave's feet.
- 19:21There is a CEO,
- 19:23there's a board of
- 19:23directors that are over top of Dave.
- 19:34meredith says it uh my issue
- 19:37is if it was volunteers on
- 19:38those paddle boards versus
- 19:39actual lifeguards but that
- 19:41doesn't mean if it's dave's
- 19:42fault if it wasn't
- 19:44appropriate if it wasn't
- 19:46appropriate personnel that
- 19:48day uh yes jody it was last
- 19:57year when they turned their
- 19:58shirts inside out
- 20:07And then Jody also says, I know, right,
- 20:10there's probably a lawsuit pending,
- 20:12so those details are held tightly.
- 20:21Trained to live.
- 20:22Unfortunately, in these situations,
- 20:23the public wants a response,
- 20:25which usually means someone to blame.
- 20:30I get it.
- 20:32I just don't know.
- 20:33They got it to go all on to
- 20:35Dave and away from the
- 20:37executives of CrossFit.
- 20:40That's what blows me away.
- 20:42The board of directors and
- 20:43the CEO should have held
- 20:45some responsibility,
- 20:46but you never hear people say fire Don.
- 20:50That wasn't in the demand letter.
- 21:04George Wang,
- 21:07Dave may have had people under
- 21:08him responsible for different decisions,
- 21:10but like a good leader,
- 21:11he won't ever throw them under the bus.
- 21:14But I do believe that people
- 21:16above him threw him under the bus.
- 21:20Some of those decisions may have been his.
- 21:22I don't believe all of them were.
- 21:28My hope is that when we get
- 21:30to the games this year,
- 21:32we can get past this and
- 21:33people can get back to
- 21:37enjoying what the CrossFit Games were.
- 21:41And they are.
- 21:44It goes back to this split
- 21:46and divide with Metfix
- 21:48trying to take affiliates,
- 21:50WFP trying to take affiliates,
- 21:52High Rocks trying to take affiliates.
- 21:55There's so much division right now
- 21:58We need to come together.
- 22:01We need to remember why CrossFit is great.
- 22:04And maybe a sale and a new
- 22:06owner will help us do that
- 22:08because it'll help reset
- 22:10the whole system.
- 22:12But I don't know.
- 22:24Yeah,
- 22:24look at the Texas floods from the
- 22:26news this week.
- 22:27Even in this case,
- 22:28people are looking for a place to blame.
- 22:35Alito, yeah, I agree, Jody.
- 22:37Would love to know if it
- 22:38really just was a tragic
- 22:40accident or how much of a
- 22:42human factor there was.
- 22:44But as Scott said,
- 22:45we might find out in ten years' time,
- 22:47sadly.
- 22:57Meredith saying hates when
- 22:58we talk about budget cuts.
- 23:00It doesn't mean that it
- 23:00affected this situation.
- 23:05Dave is the only one who
- 23:05puts his head out.
- 23:07So he is the one who takes
- 23:08the heat in this situation.
- 23:12I am telling you,
- 23:13they got behind closed
- 23:14doors and they assigned
- 23:16Dave to take the heat.
- 23:19He doesn't get to walk out
- 23:20there and make the
- 23:21statements to the athletes
- 23:22without Don fall saying
- 23:24that that is his responsibility.
- 23:34Focus on fitness.
- 23:40If they released a report,
- 23:41all these questions would be answered.
- 23:43I don't think they can release the report.
- 23:45I think there's probably
- 23:46still pending litigation,
- 23:48and that is why that report
- 23:49is not being released.
- 23:52And so people demanding that
- 23:54it be released,
- 23:55they're just not thinking clearly.
- 23:57There has to be pending
- 23:59litigation going on.
- 24:01And because of that,
- 24:02there's probably things in
- 24:03that report that cannot be
- 24:05released to the public.
- 24:08So maybe someday it can be,
- 24:10but litigation is going to
- 24:12have to be solved, completed,
- 24:16decided for them to be able to do that.
- 24:31Um, why not say why it's not released?
- 24:34You can say there's pending litigation.
- 24:35They can, I can.
- 24:39Do you think that decision
- 24:40though comes to Dave?
- 24:41You think he gets to say why
- 24:43it's not released?
- 24:45There's no way in hell.
- 24:46The CEO is going to let him say that.
- 24:50No way.
- 24:52That decisions at the board
- 24:54level and the CEO, uh,
- 25:04Okay, no, not Dave.
- 25:07Right.
- 25:08But everybody is putting the
- 25:09blame at the feet of Dave.
- 25:13That's the problem.
- 25:20Waiting on the investigation
- 25:21is like waiting on the Epstein list.
- 25:24Yeah, it'll never happen.
- 25:31I think when a life is involved,
- 25:32it's natural to want to
- 25:33find someone to blame
- 25:34because the ultimate
- 25:35happened would be nice if
- 25:37it were more like the
- 25:38airline industry where they're, yeah,
- 25:44I'm sure there's more to come on that.
- 25:48Is Don still the CEO?
- 25:49He's been MIA for a while.
- 25:50He is still the CEO.
- 25:52He just did a podcast like a week ago.
- 25:54Uh, not with like a CrossFit podcast,
- 25:57like outside the space.
- 26:01Kaya is not blaming Dave at all.
- 26:04No, but there are people.
- 26:16So just some observations
- 26:19from today that I just
- 26:22wanted to kind of get off my chest.
- 26:26All stemming from adult conversations.
- 26:31To finish the airline
- 26:32industries where there is
- 26:33reporting of issues without
- 26:35blame James W plus Don was
- 26:46at the games last year He
- 26:48could have been more
- 26:48involved publicly if he
- 26:49wanted to he did a single
- 26:51press conference to news
- 26:52stations And that's all we
- 26:53heard from him That's what I'm saying
- 27:06The airline industry tries
- 27:07to find the root of the
- 27:07problem so it's fixed and
- 27:09then publishes the data.
- 27:18Well,
- 27:18if you read the tea leaves of the week,
- 27:21Dave is in New York.
- 27:23That is where Berkshire has an office.
- 27:26There is speculation that
- 27:28maybe the sale is happening,
- 27:31but it is complete speculation.
- 27:35I have no definitive word
- 27:37that that is actually
- 27:37happening man my nose I'm
- 27:41sorry guys I need to take a
- 27:43second to blow my apologies
- 27:56I I do want to say this
- 27:57before I get into the next
- 27:58thing I'll pull up your
- 27:59comment in a second lito
- 28:01I've been to a lot of
- 28:02competitions across the country
- 28:06Never once while watching a
- 28:07competition did I think the
- 28:08CrossFit Games were unsafe.
- 28:12Do I think that people have
- 28:13been pushed to the limits?
- 28:14Sure.
- 28:16I never, ever thought it was unsafe.
- 28:20Now,
- 28:20I've been to Waterpalooza a couple times,
- 28:21and I will tell you,
- 28:23watching that competition,
- 28:25I felt this is completely unsafe.
- 28:30Completely unsafe.
- 28:33I watched NorCal online and I'm like,
- 28:36oh my gosh, they're so close together.
- 28:38Oh my gosh,
- 28:38the kettlebells are going to
- 28:39bang into each other.
- 28:41Oh my gosh, blah, blah, blah.
- 28:42I never see that at the games.
- 28:49The fact that this tragic
- 28:50event happened there is awful.
- 28:55But the reputation of safety
- 28:56has never really come into
- 28:58question until this year.
- 29:04Maybe the Murph year,
- 29:05which we'll probably talk
- 29:06about in a second.
- 29:07But other than that, yeah,
- 29:18Guadalupe has people
- 29:19swimming in the dark.
- 29:22They have them working out
- 29:23in the rain and slipping
- 29:25and sliding on the floor,
- 29:27banging their heads against the stands,
- 29:30trying to do handstand
- 29:31pushups on the slippery floor.
- 29:37I've heard more people get
- 29:38injured at waterpalooza
- 29:40than any other competition
- 29:55the murphier was a bit
- 29:56unsafe because of the temp
- 29:57in general I mean we and
- 30:00hot barbells hot rigs I
- 30:03know that has happened as well
- 30:06But overall, I've seen way,
- 30:08way worse than any of that.
- 30:18Andrew Sten,
- 30:18if you listen to some athletes,
- 30:19they say they felt unsafe
- 30:21for years and brought it up to CrossFit,
- 30:23but no one else has heard
- 30:24them complain about being unsafe.
- 30:26So how much do we believe them?
- 30:30Have we heard athletes say that,
- 30:31or have we heard the PFAA say that?
- 30:47I'm from Germany.
- 30:48Kaya says, I'm from Germany.
- 30:50To be honest,
- 30:50I was anxious watching the
- 30:51CrossFit stream because
- 30:52there was so little rescue
- 30:53people in the water.
- 30:55You wouldn't be allowed to
- 30:55do that over here.
- 30:56I was shocked.
- 30:59I think the big,
- 31:00and it's foolish to go back
- 31:03and say what could have
- 31:04been different because it's already over.
- 31:07But they should have been
- 31:08kept to one side of the buoy.
- 31:12It would have reduced the lane to watch.
- 31:27Having said that,
- 31:28people drown during the
- 31:29summer over here as well.
- 31:31It happens so damn quick.
- 31:32If nobody looks for three seconds,
- 31:33it's done.
- 31:34That's the danger of open water.
- 31:46Even in the Murph year,
- 31:47you can argue that it was hot,
- 31:49but there was literally
- 31:50people running ultra
- 31:51marathons in the Sahara.
- 31:53We're testing for the fittest on earth.
- 31:54People sign waivers for a reason.
- 32:02That's why I said some
- 32:03athletes guess I should say
- 32:04Brett and Pat.
- 32:09George Wang, Garmin,
- 32:10or Whoop could provide
- 32:12heart rate monitor for
- 32:13every athlete to wear during competition.
- 32:15That would help CrossFit
- 32:16monitor abnormal conditions
- 32:17and help them sell product.
- 32:20Not a bad idea.
- 32:23Aaron Frazier,
- 32:24the athletes won't give
- 32:25examples like in the fee interview.
- 32:28And if you listen to Brent and Pat,
- 32:30they'll say because they're
- 32:31afraid of retaliation.
- 32:36I've never seen anybody
- 32:37retaliated against where it
- 32:39affected their placement at
- 32:40the games or anything like that.
- 32:43And the people that say
- 32:45there's retaliation are
- 32:46people like Matt Frazier
- 32:47who went on to win five times in a row.
- 32:52I don't know.
- 32:57At the end of the day,
- 32:58I want all this to be done.
- 32:59Like, I just...
- 33:01I want all this to be
- 33:01settled so we have a good
- 33:03CrossFit Games this year
- 33:05where everybody enjoys themselves.
- 33:08We have a good show.
- 33:09We get to test who the fittest are.
- 33:12We get to watch some really
- 33:13cool competition.
- 33:15And everybody just kind of gets along.
- 33:26Yeah.
- 33:29What's more important,
- 33:30saving lives or being
- 33:31retaliated against and
- 33:32possibly losing a chance at money?
- 33:34Saving lives.
- 33:35Come on.
- 33:41And then to George's comment, oh, my God,
- 33:42George,
- 33:43I work out at one ninety to two
- 33:44hundred RPMs on the regular.
- 33:46I'd be pulled out of the
- 33:47competition immediately.
- 33:50Shanna, not accurate, though,
- 33:53the heart rate monitoring.
- 33:57And Shanna is a pediatric doctor.
- 33:59So she would know that.
- 34:04I'd love to know what their
- 34:05idea of retaliation is so subjective.
- 34:08Well, here's what's crazy, right?
- 34:11You know, we talk about this retaliation.
- 34:13And like Ariel withdrew from
- 34:15the games last year.
- 34:17She has kind of made it
- 34:18public that she didn't like
- 34:19the way things went down.
- 34:21She still had a road to the
- 34:22games made of her.
- 34:23They put her in a very good light.
- 34:26They made her look awesome.
- 34:28Right?
- 34:29So where's the retaliation?
- 34:32You're still getting
- 34:32everything that every other
- 34:34athlete would get.
- 34:34And then Kai,
- 34:47how would you have liked the
- 34:48situation to be handled?
- 34:50That's the key.
- 34:51That's what I keep saying.
- 34:52I can't come up with a better solution.
- 34:56And I've had nine months to
- 34:57think about it.
- 34:59They had a couple hours to
- 35:02come up with a plan.
- 35:10Leo, not RPMs, HR.
- 35:13I thought RPMs is how you
- 35:14talked in the UK.
- 35:14Okay.
- 35:27Corey said,
- 35:28I hit one ninety nine day
- 35:29before yesterday.
- 35:30I had to turn off the Garmin
- 35:31feature where they call the
- 35:32ambulance for you.
- 35:41Aren't the athletes choosing
- 35:42to risk injury, they could stop,
- 35:44but they want to keep going.
- 35:53Uh, Andrew, right.
- 35:54If they were retaliated against,
- 35:55make that public.
- 35:56So CrossFit looks bad.
- 35:58It's the hole in their logic.
- 36:04Um,
- 36:09a very good friend of mine who has been
- 36:10to the game several times
- 36:11told us once I'll cuff up.
- 36:13I'll cough up blood on the
- 36:14floor before I quit.
- 36:16Everyone knows the risks.
- 36:18If you don't, you live in a fantasy land.
- 36:27Uh, Lito, I know what RPM means.
- 36:29I was just being sarcastic.
- 36:31Uh, so
- 36:38So, yeah,
- 36:39I hope that we can get past all this,
- 36:41that everybody can see that
- 36:43it's a new day, a new dawn.
- 36:45Maybe we have new owners by the games.
- 36:47Who knows?
- 36:49And that everybody can just
- 36:51kind of move along with
- 36:53life and get back to a good old-fashioned,
- 36:57awesome CrossFit Games.
- 36:59That's what I'm hoping for.
- 37:05In the UK, we don't do sarcasm.
- 37:08Gotcha.
- 37:11So, yeah.
- 37:14The last thing I wanted to
- 37:15talk about real quick is if
- 37:18anybody didn't see it,
- 37:20Athena Perez made a new
- 37:21journal entry yesterday,
- 37:23and I am actually quoted in
- 37:25that journal entry.
- 37:29And that quote,
- 37:29if you've watched the show at all,
- 37:32the quotes from there come
- 37:33from the Pete Shaw
- 37:34interview and some things I
- 37:36said after the fact,
- 37:38and it was about how Metfix
- 37:39has been approaching, uh, new clients.
- 37:45I want to make it clear.
- 37:47I,
- 37:47that is not how I feel about Cheryl
- 37:50Nassau, uh,
- 37:51who I've had as a nutrition
- 37:53coach in the past and who
- 37:55was on this channel is
- 37:56still on this channel.
- 37:58Um,
- 38:01No implications towards the
- 38:02way she has trained me with
- 38:04nutrition at all.
- 38:06She does it the right way,
- 38:07not this Metfix way.
- 38:09I just want that cleared up.
- 38:17And the reason I'm not
- 38:18working with Cheryl now has
- 38:19nothing to do with Cheryl
- 38:23at all or the way she trains.
- 38:26It was something that I
- 38:28needed to go through myself.
- 38:31And I will share that at
- 38:32some point on the show when
- 38:33I'm ready to do so.
- 38:36But none of that,
- 38:39none of what I've been
- 38:39saying has anything to do with her.
- 38:42I know there's been some
- 38:43misinterpretation of that.
- 38:45Everything I've been saying
- 38:46is about med fix, not about her.
- 38:48So, um,
- 38:56Thank you, Corey.
- 38:57Like, uh, like,
- 38:58and subscribe support the show for free.
- 39:06Um,
- 39:08I think most people can't wrap their
- 39:09heads around the fact that Lazar died.
- 39:12It's human to want to find
- 39:14somebody or something to blame.
- 39:16I think that's why people
- 39:17try to find somebody or something.
- 39:24There we go.
- 39:25Uh,
- 39:28And then about the Athena or
- 39:29the journal entry,
- 39:31where that stems from is
- 39:33Athena and I have talked a
- 39:33lot over the last two weeks.
- 39:35We both come from the same place.
- 39:39Her upbringing was much
- 39:41different than mine.
- 39:41I'm not going to compare
- 39:42myself to that at all.
- 39:45What she went through was
- 39:47just horrendous and that
- 39:49she was able to overcome all that.
- 39:51She's a hero in my book.
- 39:54But her and I both have
- 39:56struggled with weight loss.
- 39:58We both walked into a
- 39:59CrossFit gym at five
- 40:00hundred pounds and we both
- 40:03lost a tremendous amount of
- 40:04weight through CrossFit.
- 40:06We have that shared experience.
- 40:08And when I was going through
- 40:09all the Metfix stuff,
- 40:11her and I began talking again a lot,
- 40:14probably daily for the last
- 40:16couple of weeks.
- 40:17And, um,
- 40:21And she has been thrown into
- 40:25the fire by Metfix way more
- 40:27than I ever have.
- 40:28And her way of dealing with
- 40:30that is to write journal entries.
- 40:32And she does that on her website.
- 40:34If you're not following her
- 40:36or following those journal entries,
- 40:38they are freaking awesome.
- 40:40Her last three are about
- 40:43Metfix and kind of what happens,
- 40:46what her perception of all that is.
- 40:49I encourage you to go look at those.
- 40:51If you're not already
- 40:52following her on Instagram,
- 40:54you really should.
- 40:55She's a great person and has
- 40:58a lot of valuable things to say.
- 41:04I am telling you, the tickle in this nose,
- 41:08it's rough today.
- 41:11So,
- 41:13Um, what's her handle?
- 41:16I think, I think it's just a Dina Perez,
- 41:21um, Athena Perez.
- 41:22Let me, I'll pull it up and show you guys.
- 41:33It's Athena Marie BT.
- 41:39And it looks like this.
- 41:48There she is.
- 41:49And now she's in the chat.
- 41:52Athena Perez.
- 42:00But there's her Instagram if
- 42:01you want to go follow her.
- 42:02Here are the last few journal entries.
- 42:06And there are links to those
- 42:07in her link tree right here.
- 42:12You can check that out by
- 42:16clicking on that.
- 42:18But they are really good articles.
- 42:19I think you'll enjoy them a
- 42:21tremendous amount.
- 42:27I love you too, Athena.
- 42:29So glad we've been able to
- 42:30reconnect these last couple
- 42:31of weeks with our shared stories.
- 42:40So yeah, go check her out.
- 42:43Athena Perez,
- 42:44she's on Instagram and she
- 42:46has a link tree to get you
- 42:47to her journal articles,
- 42:48which are phenomenal.
- 42:50She's one of the best
- 42:51writers in the world.
- 43:01Wasn't she on Hiller?
- 43:02She worked with Hiller for a while.
- 43:04She's been on the CrossFit podcast.
- 43:07She's been on this podcast.
- 43:11She has a book called Carrying the Weight,
- 43:13which is her first one.
- 43:14And then she has a sequel to that book.
- 43:18I'm sure she'll type it in the chat,
- 43:21hopefully, to that book.
- 43:24Both great reads.
- 43:29um so hopefully she's here
- 43:31with that because I just
- 43:36shut down my instagram by
- 43:37accident so but she has a
- 43:40couple books out there the
- 43:41journal entries are true
- 43:42great she's just a really
- 43:44really good writer so and
- 43:52she will always hold a
- 43:53special place in my heart
- 43:54if you've not ever heard me weightless
- 43:57Not out quite yet.
- 43:58Okay.
- 43:59Not out quite yet.
- 44:03So there you go.
- 44:06And the first one is carrying the weight.
- 44:08And I'm going to tell you a little story.
- 44:10My dad passed away in twenty twenty.
- 44:14And I had to drive four
- 44:16hours to get to my mom
- 44:21where my dad had passed away.
- 44:22And actually he hadn't
- 44:23passed away at the moment.
- 44:25I was trying to get to him
- 44:25before he passed away.
- 44:28And Athena talked to me a
- 44:32lot of that trip home.
- 44:33Um, she's just a really good friend.
- 44:35She was there in a time of need.
- 44:37That's the kind of friend she is.
- 44:39That's the kind of person she is.
- 44:41Um,
- 44:43So I just want you guys to
- 44:45know that because there's
- 44:46been a lot going on these
- 44:47last couple weeks.
- 44:49And I really want you to
- 44:50know that's the kind of person Athena is.
- 44:53I can't say that for the
- 44:54other people that have been
- 44:55involved in some of these conversations.
- 44:58So with that, guys, it's been a great day.
- 45:02I'm going to go blow my nose.
- 45:05Summer colds are the worst.
- 45:08With that,
- 45:09you knuckleheads get back to work.
- 45:12I'm going to go relax on the
- 45:13couch a little bit with that.
- 45:15We will see everybody next
- 45:17time on lunch with the Clydesdale.
