Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: David Seymour has released his Letter of Expectations for farm Act.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Following a significant funding boost, the drug buying agency has
- 0:08Speaker 1: been told it needs to deliver improved health outcomes underpinned
- 0:11Speaker 1: by robust data and evidence. Seymour has also told FARMAC
- 0:16Speaker 1: to halt the embedding of tetentity or white hanging in
- 0:19Speaker 1: its decision making.
- 0:20Speaker 2: If it treats me different New Zealand's differently based on
- 0:23Speaker 2: whether or not they had an ancestor who was Mari,
- 0:26Speaker 2: then we want nothing to do with it.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Malcolm R. Holland is the chair of the Patient Voice
- 0:30Speaker 1: outed our group and joins me now, Malcolm, welcome to
- 0:33Speaker 1: the program. First of all, this treaty exclusion does that
- 0:36Speaker 1: bother you?
- 0:38Speaker 2: No, it doesn't. There was never any evidence that by
- 0:41Speaker 2: having treaty provisions within farmac's decision making process that led
- 0:47Speaker 2: to MARDI access in more medicines. It was very unclear
- 0:50Speaker 2: as to how it was being used, so it made
- 0:53Speaker 2: from our perspective, no material difference.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Apart from that, what is new in this What gives
- 0:59Speaker 1: you hope that this is going to lead to actual change?
- 1:03Speaker 2: It is a number of things, probably in particular is
- 1:07Speaker 2: around looking at famic's dietritory objectives, So whether or not
- 1:12Speaker 2: they need to retain reference to FARMAC having a MILEFIC
- 1:18Speaker 2: process if you like, on cost containment, looking at the
- 1:22Speaker 2: health technology assessment process in for FARMAC to consider some
- 1:27Speaker 2: of the savings that can occur within the health system
- 1:29Speaker 2: and to the wider taxpayer as they found a particular medicine,
- 1:33Speaker 2: and also looking at the separation of roles between FARMAC
- 1:36Speaker 2: is a procurement agency as well as the Health Technology
- 1:39Speaker 2: Assessment Agency as well.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Okay, so there's stuff in there that gives you a
- 1:43Speaker 1: bit of hope. How do you think FARMAC will respond
- 1:46Speaker 1: to this? Do you think that they're up to the job.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Well, it was interesting being there yesterday. Certainly, the conversations
- 1:54Speaker 2: that we had with FAMAIC staff, they seemed overall positive.
- 1:58Speaker 2: You know, I believe there was a bit of reluctance
- 2:00Speaker 2: around the TRITI aspect of the leader of expectations, but
- 2:04Speaker 2: overall I think they know that change is happening and
- 2:07Speaker 2: that it needs to happen.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Welcome R. Holland's Patient Advocate. Thank you very much for
