Transcript
- 0:18Speaker 1: Hey, hurdlers, Emily Abadi here bringing you another installment of
- 0:22Speaker 1: Five Minute Friday.
- 0:23Speaker 2: I don't know about you, but I am.
- 0:25Speaker 1: So so ready for the long holiday weekend. Little housekeeping note,
- 0:31Speaker 1: Hurdle will be coming out first thing on Tuesday morning,
- 0:35Speaker 1: and then the cadence will be back to normal. Back
- 0:38Speaker 1: to your regularly scheduled programming. Regularly is a hard word
- 0:44Speaker 1: to say. Well, okay, now that we have taken care
- 0:47Speaker 1: of that note. For this week's Weekly Hurdle, I'm actually
- 0:51Speaker 1: mixing it up a little bit. Usually I correlate between
- 0:54Speaker 1: the Weekly Hurdle Newsletter if you are a subscriber. If not,
- 0:57Speaker 1: head on over to the show notes, click the lane
- 1:00Speaker 1: to subscribe and get that in your inbox every single Friday.
- 1:03Speaker 1: I usually correlate between the Weekly Hurdle Newsletter and Five
- 1:07Speaker 1: Minute Fridays here on the Hurdle Feed wherever you get
- 1:11Speaker 1: your podcasts.
- 1:11Speaker 2: But this week I'm mixing it up.
- 1:14Speaker 1: For the newsletter, this week, I am chatting all about
- 1:17Speaker 1: my go to sneakers, the styles that I cannot live without,
- 1:21Speaker 1: the ones that I love. But I thought that rambling
- 1:23Speaker 1: about that here might have not been the best format.
- 1:27Speaker 1: So if you want to know about my go to
- 1:30Speaker 1: sneaker picks. You want to know what's in my rotation,
- 1:32Speaker 1: why it is that I love them? Definitely click on
- 1:35Speaker 1: over to the weekly hurdle over here. However, I decided
- 1:39Speaker 1: this week to share a quick story about what was
- 1:43Speaker 1: going on in my apartment this week. Nothing too scandalous,
- 1:48Speaker 1: I promise. However, I was working on Wednesday when I
- 1:54Speaker 1: realized that I had received a few emails letting me
- 1:57Speaker 1: know that packages were trying to be delivered to my building,
- 2:01Speaker 1: which doesn't have a doorman, and usually when there is
- 2:05Speaker 1: a delivery person downstairs, they will press the buzzer, I'll
- 2:08Speaker 1: get a notification up here, I'll let them in. It's easy, breezy. Well,
- 2:13Speaker 1: turns out I came to learn that since Sunday, my
- 2:18Speaker 1: buzzer had been broken, which means that it wasn't functioning properly.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Anyone trying to contact me from downstairs couldn't get through.
- 2:26Speaker 1: I wasn't getting notifications, and man, it was frustrating, and it.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Was frustrating because, yeah, like you want.
- 2:33Speaker 1: To know what's happening in your own building, but also
- 2:36Speaker 1: again on the package's note, things were just getting turned
- 2:38Speaker 1: away and that can be super frustrating, especially when you've
- 2:42Speaker 1: been looking forward to said things like a light bulb
- 2:46Speaker 1: that was for the small lamp in my living room,
- 2:49Speaker 1: among other highlights.
- 2:51Speaker 2: I digress.
- 2:53Speaker 1: So, of course, when this is happening, the super for
- 2:57Speaker 1: my building is on vacation. We have a temporary super
- 2:59Speaker 1: reached out to him. Somehow I became the point person
- 3:03Speaker 1: for the technician that needed to come here and fix
- 3:06Speaker 1: the intercom and to boot. He couldn't make it until
- 3:10Speaker 1: the following day. It was just a string of slightly
- 3:15Speaker 1: annoying events, one after the other, things that I didn't
- 3:18Speaker 1: necessarily want to deal with, and I realized when the
- 3:22Speaker 1: man finally got here yesterday to fix the intercom buzzer,
- 3:28Speaker 1: I greeted him, and at first it was like I
- 3:31Speaker 1: snapped a little bit because I was frustrated that it
- 3:33Speaker 1: had taken so long for him to get here, and
- 3:36Speaker 1: we had a brief interaction. He looked at my intercom,
- 3:38Speaker 1: my buzzer inside of my apartment and then went downstairs
- 3:42Speaker 1: onto the next apartments to figure out where the issue
- 3:45Speaker 1: was stemming from. And when he walked outside of my apartment,
- 3:47Speaker 1: I had a moment where I thought to myself, dude,
- 3:51Speaker 1: he did not deserve that. This man is just trying
- 3:54Speaker 1: to do his job. He couldn't get here earlier because
- 3:56Speaker 1: he had other jobs. He's not the person that's responsible
- 3:59Speaker 1: for this issue. This is just an issue, and so,
- 4:05Speaker 1: long story short, he eventually comes back in here after
- 4:08Speaker 1: he fixes the problem, everything seems to be working fine,
- 4:11Speaker 1: and before he walked out, I literally said to him,
- 4:14Speaker 1: I just want you to know I'm sorry if I
- 4:16Speaker 1: snapped on you a little bit before. I really appreciate
- 4:19Speaker 1: that you came here to take care of this for us,
- 4:21Speaker 1: and I hope you have a really great day. And
- 4:23Speaker 1: he looked at me and he said, people don't usually
- 4:26Speaker 1: talk to me that way. I really appreciate that you
- 4:29Speaker 1: said that, and I was like, yes, that is communication.
- 4:36Speaker 1: I totally did not expect him to say that back
- 4:38Speaker 1: to me either. So it's just a really beautiful interaction
- 4:40Speaker 1: that I had this week and something that reminded me
- 4:43Speaker 1: that you've just got to do the best you can
- 4:45Speaker 1: with what you have and to have some grace and
- 4:47Speaker 1: compassion for the people that you come into contact with,
- 4:50Speaker 1: because again, we never know what's going on in that
- 4:56Speaker 1: person's day, their life. They're sitch what they're struggling with
- 5:00Speaker 1: and maybe you too can be a positive.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Note for them.
- 5:05Speaker 1: My prompt for you this week, what is one thing
- 5:10Speaker 1: that you can do to make somebody else's day today? Again,
- 5:15Speaker 1: what is one single thing that you can do, whether
- 5:18Speaker 1: it's something that you will say or an action perhaps
- 5:21Speaker 1: that can make someone else's day today. Highlights of the week,
- 5:27Speaker 1: you know the drill. All of the links to this
- 5:29Speaker 1: stuff can be found in the show notes. First up,
- 5:33Speaker 1: you've got to send one of these. It's called the
- 5:35Speaker 1: Pinata Gram. Honestly, I got targeted by this company on
- 5:39Speaker 1: Instagram and I knew it was only a matter of
- 5:41Speaker 1: time until I found the appropriate person to send one
- 5:45Speaker 1: of these two. Basically, it's literally what it sounds like.
- 5:48Speaker 1: It's a pinata that you send in the mail.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Mine cost twenty dollars. Felt like the perfect gift.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I don't know if my friend who was supposed to
- 5:56Speaker 1: get married this weekend, my college roommate is listening to this,
- 5:59Speaker 1: but if she is, surprise you have a Pinata Graham
- 6:02Speaker 1: coming your way.
- 6:04Speaker 2: I just love this idea. I mean, who wouldn't love
- 6:07Speaker 2: to get a pignata in the mail?
- 6:09Speaker 1: Next up, you've got to read this article on Witness
- 6:12Speaker 1: and respare a personal tragedy followed by a pandemic. It's
- 6:17Speaker 1: on Vanity Fair. I can't even give it enough justice. Basically,
- 6:21Speaker 1: a novelist who lost her husband and the father of
- 6:24Speaker 1: her children as COVID really kicked in earlier this year
- 6:27Speaker 1: wrote about her story and she shares her grief and
- 6:29Speaker 1: it's just truly, truly touching. Definitely check it out. Next up,
- 6:34Speaker 1: listen diet starts tomorrow. Is the F Factor backlash deserved?
- 6:39Speaker 1: I've been getting tagged and pinged by a lot of
- 6:41Speaker 1: people asking me for my thoughts and my opinion on
- 6:44Speaker 1: the F Factor diet drama, so to speak. I'll be honest,
- 6:49Speaker 1: I'm not completely in the loop, but from what I've heard,
- 6:53Speaker 1: I mean, I personally wouldn't lean into the F Factor
- 6:56Speaker 1: diet or their products, but that's just my takeaway. I
- 6:59Speaker 1: thought that this podcast from the Betches, I feel so
- 7:03Speaker 1: weird every time I say that. Anyway, they did a
- 7:06Speaker 1: really good job of talking about what's happening, diving into
- 7:09Speaker 1: the particulars, and if you two are like, what is
- 7:12Speaker 1: this all about? This is a great place to start.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Next up, watch Tenant Now. This is a new movie
- 7:19Speaker 1: from Christopher Nolan. Unfortunately, it is not streaming, but it
- 7:23Speaker 1: is available in theaters. I feel like this is one
- 7:25Speaker 1: of the first big releases that I've heard of since
- 7:28Speaker 1: COVID became a thing. I don't know how it's going
- 7:32Speaker 1: to perform, necessarily considering that a lot of people still
- 7:35Speaker 1: aren't going to movie theaters. I also know that it's
- 7:38Speaker 1: not going to be released in Los Angeles or New
- 7:40Speaker 1: York right away. But the movie seems bomb and it
- 7:44Speaker 1: seems like something I'd love to watch, and I hope
- 7:47Speaker 1: that I get this opportunity because it sounds pretty awesome.
- 7:52Speaker 1: And last, but not least, for this week, play that's
- 7:55Speaker 1: a fun category. We're not really strangers. If you follow
- 7:59Speaker 1: me on social you may see me posting little note
- 8:01Speaker 1: cards cards from this game every once in a while. Basically,
- 8:05Speaker 1: it's a card game, a purpose driven card game, and
- 8:09Speaker 1: it's all about making meaningful connections with the people that
- 8:13Speaker 1: you care about. So there are three different levels of
- 8:16Speaker 1: questions and wild cards, and they're meant to be really
- 8:19Speaker 1: thought provoking questions. It's basically like a Q and a
- 8:22Speaker 1: game that you play with friends, and it's a lot
- 8:25Speaker 1: of fun. I highly recommend playing this game with your
- 8:28Speaker 1: best friends, or perhaps playing it on a date could
- 8:31Speaker 1: be super super interesting. And I think that's it for
- 8:36Speaker 1: this week. A quick hitter to kick you off into
- 8:38Speaker 1: the weekend.
- 8:39Speaker 2: If you have.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Any questions, comments concerned, you know how to reach me
- 8:43Speaker 1: at Emily a Body at Hurdle Podcast and also over
- 8:46Speaker 1: email Emily at hurdle dot us and also stay tuned.
- 8:50Speaker 1: I'll be releasing a new roster of hurdle sessions this
- 8:54Speaker 1: coming Monday at September seventh. Thanks for being in my corner, y'all,
- 8:59Speaker 1: another hurdle conquered. Catch you guys next time.
