- 1:08the things that we talked about, including your introduction into

- 1:15gravitate towards and kdrama and when you said you like the

- 2:26to get me just really quickly. If you guys don't follow this on

- 2:45do my beautiful mess though. Okay.
- 2:47Thanks. It's always entertaining.
- 2:50I am so glad you find it entertaining.
- 2:52I kind of just do the videos like, well, if I was someone who
- 2:55liked kdramas and this was going to pop up in my feed, what would
- 2:58I like to see? And it's like, I'd like to see
- 3:00an idiot making fun of kdramas and the whole experience.
- 3:03And I'd like to see some XYZ. I just do that and I hope that
- 3:06people are happy with it, and I'm so glad that you are happy
- 3:09with it and that I'm entertaining you Caitlin.
- 3:11I It's very entertaining. Yeah, same account.
- 3:16Like I said, ATC Dev occupied, you can find us on Twitter,
- 3:19really me on Twitter, Rico doesn't have anything to do with
- 3:22the socials, but I just kind of make it seem like he's there.
- 3:26I feel rat really bad. But he's like, you take it, you
- 3:30run in, however, you want to run it and I was like, got you.
- 3:34Okay, that being said we're gonna get into it now.
- 3:38Flower of evil, Asian Wiki, synopsis reads, Ted E1 is a
- 3:42detective. She is married to beckysan, and
- 3:45they have a daughter. Becky song.
- 3:47Seems like a committed husband and father, but he hides his
- 3:49cruel past and lives under another person's identity.
- 3:53He deceives his wife completely taji one learns of his deception
- 3:57and chases his past. I got to be honest, I almost
- 4:00never use the Asian Wiki synopsis because of this exact
- 4:03reason because as like weirdly written and it's like leaves off
- 4:09on such a weird note as well like And she chases his past
- 4:14that's like a gross understatement but okay.
- 4:19Alright flowers of evil aired originally from July to
- 4:22September 20, 20, it is 16 episodes long and it's directed
- 4:27by Kim. Taek, you who won best director
- 4:30for flower of evil at the 57th Beck song Awards, which is
- 4:34something of note that the director won for best director.
- 4:38He's done, celebrity from Netflix and 2022.
- 4:41I don't know, I don't know. Let's come out yet, or if it's
- 4:44been canceled or what have you, I don't I haven't heard anything
- 4:46about celebrity, but he also directed mother from 2018,
- 4:50Chicago Typewriter from 2017 and Emergency Couple from 2014,
- 4:55which is like a rom-com kind of deal.
- 4:57I vividly, remember watching Emergency Couple and I still
- 5:02have mother and Chicago Typewriter on my, you know,
- 5:06endless kdrama q that I have to get through at some point flower
- 5:11of Evil was written by you junge and she's only written two.
- 5:15Dramas, it's this one and naked fireman from 2017.
- 5:21I don't know if you've ever even heard a very it's like a
- 5:23four-episode. Drama, it's entertaining.
- 5:28It's a little different but it's entertaining, little, okay.
- 5:33And flowers of evil Stars, basically two people each and
- 5:37ghee as Becky song and he I mean word, don't you know him from?
- 5:42Um I guess I read the first thing that I saw him in was my
- 5:46girl from 05? Did you ever get around to see
- 5:49my girl? My girl, no, but I've definitely
- 5:53heard of it. Okay.
- 5:54Yeah, he's the second lead in that I Starting in Oldham a
- 5:58from. Oh wait, that's a.
- 5:59No, wait drama. And that was, I couldn't get
- 6:01into that one. So I dropped it.
- 6:03I done in the magistrate, I watched scholar who walks
- 6:05tonight's another historical, and then I think everyone kind
- 6:09of lost her shit with this one. Moon lovers Scarlet have Rio
- 6:12from 2016. The year of Our Lord took 16.
- 6:17You have never watched it, really.
- 6:18Okay. Look, I avoid sad, dramas.
- 6:21I got spoiled heavily on this. I'm like, I'm never ever going
- 6:25to watch this drive. Oh my God Caitlin.
- 6:28So I watch this as it was earring and I gotta say this was
- 6:33like the fever pitch 2016 was full of fever pitch, dramas,
- 6:37where it was like, oh my God. What are we gonna do?
- 6:40I need to watch this as soon as it comes out.
- 6:42I have no. Choice is also this drama also
- 6:45aired in the time period that I had no access to dramas.
- 6:48So, like by the time I gained access again, it had already
- 6:51finished airing and like I was spoiled heavily, whatever.
- 6:55So, I just was like I'm not I'm not even going to try and wait.
- 7:01Yeah I would say that was I mean with the death of DramaFever you
- 7:05can't really find it anywhere. Anyway, that's gonna say that
- 7:10DramaFever was the platform that I watched it on and DramaFever
- 7:14died, not long after that. So, yeah, moon lovers was a
- 7:18casualty. No one can find moon lovers
- 7:20anywhere nowadays. As soon as it comes back on
- 7:23streaming, the people are going to freak out because I think The
- 7:26people who have heard of it and the hype of it is unreal at this
- 7:30point. It's legendary.
- 7:32I'm really curious to watch this Chinese drama.
- 7:35It's based on two. I've never, I've never watched
- 7:38it, but Vicky has it. And I'm really more Curious to
- 7:40check that one out. Just to see if you know what I
- 7:43never press play on that. This is a huge segue, because as
- 7:45soon as we hit Moonlight, I know that's possible.
- 7:48So I really want to watch that one too.
- 7:51The original Scarlet, heart, but as soon as I saw the thumbnail
- 7:55and it had, That time in Chinese history where they were like,
- 7:59shaving their heads right out and they had the long braids and
- 8:02I was like, I don't think I can swing that.
- 8:04I literally was like, I don't know if I can swing that.
- 8:06Just saw some people can't swing the sagas with like the buns and
- 8:10the hanbok goes up. I look at that and I was like
- 8:13people. Some people do not like watching
- 8:15dramas from that era. Like, yeah, I've met other
- 8:18people who are the same way, they cannot.
- 8:20Yeah, for some reason they just cannot watch dramas that are
- 8:23made from that era, right? Then, that's okay.
- 8:25I mean not. Hurry, dramas made for
- 8:27everybody. I agree.
- 8:29I it's a little surprising to me because it took after a couple
- 8:32of them I was like this is great.
- 8:34I'm like I really like the science historical dramas, but
- 8:37that specific era of see drama stuff.
- 8:41Like, historicals, I couldn't, I could never press play on those.
- 8:44I think I watch one and I was like this was a lot higher like
- 8:48anyway so that's why I've never watched the original Scarlet.
- 8:51Heart. Although I really want to
- 8:53anyway, um, a junge is I want to stay like a sex god.
- 8:59I don't know how you feel about you junkie, but I think, as soon
- 9:04as moon lovers it like that, was it.
- 9:07That's all he can be known for is just like he's it's even the
- 9:11guy from lovers or he's just as beautiful man Agency, like, on
- 9:15another level. So, there's that the most recent
- 9:20thing that he was in was a Again, my life and this year
- 9:232022, which I never washed, and then he was also pretty good.
- 9:28Okay, okay, I mean, we all know Lee Jun.
- 9:31Jie is known for his fighting, he's very good at fighting.
- 9:34So a lot of his dramas, especially the modern ones has
- 9:39to do like, incorporates the fighting into it.
- 9:43And again, my life was that same pattern like he it was he was
- 9:50fighting against corrupt. Bent and using his fighting
- 9:53skills to get through gangsters and all that stuff and it was
- 9:57good but the ending in my opinion, could have been better
- 10:01like it wasn't. It kind of was a cop-out in my
- 10:06opinion by the end, like because it was clearly setting up for a
- 10:09season 2, if it wanted to do one.
- 10:12So it wasn't bad, it was definitely entertaining.
- 10:15It just in my opinion, could have been better.
- 10:18Gotcha, I actually saw him if I can remember the movie.
- 10:23I think the first time I saw him was in a movie, ah, the King and
- 10:29the clown, the glitches extreme. Like it's his, it's kind of the
- 10:33movie that put On the map. Hmm.
- 10:35It was it's from like 2005. I want to say if I could
- 10:41remember. Yeah, 2005.
- 10:44According to my drama list, I did not watch it in 2005.
- 10:47I was not watching dramas at that time but I watched it like
- 10:512012-2013. Hmm.
- 10:54Okay. And I like it is very, oh God,
- 10:57there's a reason why he got noticed in that trauma.
- 11:01Um, it's very well, it's a good movie.
- 11:04But yeah, that's kind of the movie that everybody says put
- 11:06him on the map. And then, damn, I've followed
- 11:08his career from there. I definitely have not seen
- 11:11everything of his though. Yeah, neither have I for sure.
- 11:15Use in Lawless lawyer, in 2018. I think.
- 11:17I think that one got some buzz and I'd never heard that he was
- 11:21in this book, Criminal Minds from 2017.
- 11:23I don't know what I I wanted to watch that again.
- 11:27It was one that I didn't gain access to until much later
- 11:30actually Luce. Move move.
- 11:33Oh my God. Yes.
- 11:34For her her first name until one Moon chaewon.
- 11:37Yes, was in that. Yeah, yeah.
- 11:39They started to get like, cuz flower evil was the second.
- 11:43Yes, together. But yeah, I mean I love the
- 11:48American Criminal Minds, so I was very curious to see how this
- 11:53was. I did not watch it, I still have
- 11:55not watched it. Okay?
- 11:57Fair because I heard it was like, it wasn't in terms of the
- 12:01acting, it was good, but like the story was not that good.
- 12:05Okay, well, that's, I don't know if that's something that this
- 12:09flower evil has in common. But okay, it's called stop.
- 12:16Evil is Montero one like we just mentioned.
- 12:20She plays child, T1, and she's been in about 5 movies,
- 12:24including mood of the day from 2016 which I really enjoyed and
- 12:28War of the arrows, which I still have on my watch list.
- 12:30I have wanted to watch War of the arrows forever.
- 12:33I don't know why I haven't pressed play, but here we are,
- 12:3520 6:40, watch War theater, the arrows.
- 12:39She's been in quite a bit of TV. I watched her first and I
- 12:44remember her in this, she was in brilliant. she from 09, And
- 12:49that's with a hundred year and Eastern ghee.
- 12:55You know, you think he's currently in law Cafe.
- 12:59Yeah, yeah, yeah. So that's brilliant Legacy.
- 13:04She was in my fair lady princesses man, which is one of
- 13:08the best historical Daniel that show by a different name.
- 13:12Okay. I'm really in like it's it,
- 13:13what? It must be.
- 13:15Um, it's like shining inheritance shining under I have
- 13:18not watched that but that's that's the title.
- 13:20I know that. Okay.
- 13:21Okay. I was like, what is that truck?
- 13:23Yeah, it's also yes right. Sheraton.
- 13:25So I highly recommend shining inheritance /, brilliant Legacy
- 13:28from 09. I highly recommend the
- 13:31princess's man from 2011 which is one of the best songs I've
- 13:34ever watched in my life. I've watched it twice so good.
- 13:39She was an innocent man from 2012 with eg e junkie.
- 13:45I think. And that one was, I mean, wild
- 13:50good doctor from 2013, like we said, Criminal Minds from 2017.
- 13:55And she was in Mama Ferry and The Woodcutter from 2018.
- 13:58I feel like I heard of that one, but I never got around to
- 14:00watching. Mama Ferry was an interesting
- 14:02drama. Really innocent man was the one
- 14:06with song Joong Ki that? Yes, yeah, that was that one.
- 14:10That was my first drama with her.
- 14:11Okay, okay. I actually want to re-watch that
- 14:14some point because I don't remember a lot of it.
- 14:16I don't remember, I just remember being a really
- 14:18dramatic, you know what I'm saying?
- 14:19Yes, I remember it being very dramatic.
- 14:22Actually, remember some of the dramatic scenes but overall I
- 14:25do, Remember a lot of it. Yeah, but the one that I really
- 14:29like I did watch Moon, Mama fairy.
- 14:32Okay, I also watched a good doctor.
- 14:35So like the innocent man was my first one to go doctor.
- 14:39I watched and then I watch Mama fairy.
- 14:41But I primarily watch Mama fairy for the to other stars.
- 14:45It is okay. Like I like I like her a lot but
- 14:48I like the male leads but the funny thing is, is like they
- 14:52have worked together before this drama.
- 14:54So this was like, or either that or like, They were did another
- 15:00drama after that? I don't know.
- 15:01These leads have worked together as two male leads in multiple
- 15:05dramas together. Oh, but what was interesting
- 15:08about that one is you didn't know who she would end up with
- 15:13and they kind of did a Twist on it, which was entertaining.
- 15:17And I lights because I was rooting for the ones you chose.
- 15:19So I was very, I was very yes. Yes, I got him type of thing.
- 15:24Yeah, it was eccentric. It was out there.
- 15:27It was a little like weird but it was entertaining.
- 15:31It was fine. Got you?
- 15:33I don't know if I'll ever watch it to be quite honest with you,
- 15:36I think I'd rather water has a tiger in it.
- 15:39Well await a real tiger or a CGI tiger.
- 15:42It has like a CGI tiger and modern soul in multiples.
- 15:46I that's not selling it for me. I would rather you tell me like
- 15:50there was a really controversial real tiger in it.
- 15:53I'll be like, hell yeah, I'm gonna watch them so fast.
- 15:57No. The one of the male leads rides
- 15:59the tiger when he's drunk. See that's the idea, say lest
- 16:06they laugh Caitlyn? That's how I said trick.
- 16:09This drama was like was addressing.
- 16:11Okay, so we're on the other side of their filmography Caitlin.
- 16:17I will tell you that I'm gonna have to lean on you a lot for
- 16:21this for this review because I watched this a bit like
- 16:26completely out of order. What happened was almost, I want
- 16:31to say maybe eight months ago, maybe even 9 months ago, I
- 16:34started watching flower view people with the intention of
- 16:36watching it for the podcast, for season 2 of the podcast, not
- 16:41season 3. So I was watching a long time
- 16:43ago, I got to like episode a ten or eleven around there.
- 16:49Well, I'm almost finished the show, very close to finishing,
- 16:51right? And then I realized, oh, like
- 16:54Rico, can do season 2. So, like, what am I going to do?
- 16:57I should like, Arrange this and pick like slightly different
- 17:00dramas and like, figure out a new thing.
- 17:04And I dropped the flower of evil like nine months ago at episode
- 17:0810 or 11, I hadn't taken any notes on it.
- 17:12Whatsoever did not know like what I was happening in the
- 17:15show. So when I have picked it up
- 17:18again this week, I picked it up again.
- 17:21And I was like, oh yeah, I'll just go back to like where I was
- 17:24in the show. Yeah, that's not possible.
- 17:27Not possible. I literally started the episode
- 17:30around like episode 9 or 10. I was like, let me just go back
- 17:33one episode or so, I was like, I can't do this, I gotta go back a
- 17:37further episode, so I started episode 8, halfway through the
- 17:39show and I was still lost 62 lat.
- 17:44So I had to go to drama beans and read what I had missed.
- 17:48I was taking notes and it was taking me so long to read this
- 17:51adoptees because I was lacking so much comprehension.
- 17:56I was like, who are these characters?
- 17:57There's I didn't have like a frame of reference for like,
- 18:00what they were doing and then I was like oh whatever.
- 18:01Right? That's what happened.
- 18:03So then I would click and I'll move on to the next episode
- 18:05synopsis and it went like that 411 synopses.
- 18:11And then I picked up where I left off in the show and let me
- 18:14tell you, I will never be doing that again.
- 18:17It's a zero out of ten. Would I recommend doing that?
- 18:20I have such a bad memory. I can't do that for dramas.
- 18:25It's just such a disservice. So that's why I say I'm going to
- 18:27be leading Come on you lot because you love to show and you
- 18:31can Bridge some gaps. I think because I might come in
- 18:35a little hotter than I even I anticipated so Caitlin.
- 18:39Why don't you and I watch this as an aired so I was watching
- 18:43it. Yeah in 2020.
- 18:46So tell me what you thought of flowers of evil I loved it
- 18:51overall. I would do have some qualms with
- 18:55the last episode like 15 going into 16 and I remember being
- 19:02somewhat more irked with the decisions made in both those
- 19:05episodes versus like the K3. Because I remember like texting
- 19:11Jen from the K3 which is the YouTube channel that I also
- 19:14write for. Yeah, it was like why the heck
- 19:16did they do this? It's episode 16, and she's like,
- 19:19I'm I love it. I'm like okay but like by the
- 19:21end of episode 16, I appreciated the decisions made but at the
- 19:27beginning I was like, why why do this, why?
- 19:30But I loved it. I liked the flow.
- 19:35I liked how Like the secrets how they were revealed, I liked how
- 19:43like you as an audience member, you didn't really understand
- 19:47what was going on. Because, I mean, I personally
- 19:50like when crime dramas aren't like, are unpredictable.
- 19:53Hmm, like me as an audience member can't figure out the the
- 19:59murderer, or, right, solve the crime before the characters are
- 20:03because that has happened to me, where I know who it is, like
- 20:06episode 8 of 16. And then, The Borg and like
- 20:10yelling at the cops on screen saying it's him or like test
- 20:14this thing. Like this will give you the clue
- 20:16blah blah blah, blah blah. So I appreciate when dramas are
- 20:20unpredictable and this one definitely was nice.
- 20:24Yeah, very, very nice. I agree to a certain extent.
- 20:28I think that when I was first watching flower of evil, Omen a
- 20:31dredge up my original feelings, it was like, very easy watch for
- 20:36me, which, I guess why I never took us.
- 20:38Angle note, knock originally watch jail.
- 20:41Like I yeah, I don't need to take notes on this.
- 20:44Um, I think I was kind of a not upset, but just there was a
- 20:49reveal that happened kind of early on about a character and
- 20:54then you're just kind of floating along, like okay, they
- 20:57made this repo real early and there's less steaks.
- 21:00All of a sudden. I think the show was still
- 21:03operating under the assumption that they had Stakes high stakes
- 21:06were happening. And I was like, no, I'm really
- 21:09feeling high stakes and I feel bad and saying that because
- 21:14towards the end of the show, they gain the stakes back.
- 21:18And you start feeling that unpredictability that chaos that
- 21:23you were praising, you were like, oh yeah, I don't want to
- 21:26know like what's going to happen next.
- 21:27I want to be kept on my toes and I agree with you especially for
- 21:31this kind of drama where it's a criminal drama.
- 21:35I right was very taken aback. By the approaching, the final
- 21:41episodes the final episode you could say.
- 21:46And I was like, oh, this He's very 2005.
- 21:50Oh yeah. And the funny thing is, I'm
- 21:52usually a fan of that type of Trope.
- 21:56Ryos like I love that Trope you do but I do.
- 22:00I love it. We can do that.
- 22:01We can talk about later and spoilers.
- 22:03I'm just a sucker for that. Type of Trope.
- 22:05I'm a sucker for it. That's why I love mock drugs but
- 22:09all, that's all. I did not like it here when it
- 22:14first happened because I thought it was a cop-out in this
- 22:17specific instance. I thought they used it as a
- 22:19cop-out. Yeah.
- 22:22Also just before we move on to like stuff but because we're
- 22:25still kind of on the cast. I actually watch this drama for
- 22:29Kim ji Hoon really. Like when I saw that he joined
- 22:33the cast That was what made me interested in this topic.
- 22:38It would still have watched it even if he wasn't enjoying,
- 22:41okay? But I was very curious to see
- 22:45because at the time when they revealed him as a cast, they
- 22:48didn't tell us much like they just said he's in the calf, they
- 22:51say what is it? Look even if you go to the Asian
- 22:54Wiki right now and look at the castles for flowers of evil, it
- 22:58came to you in is way down there.
- 23:00They do not yet. Say this character is there's
- 23:03like no way. Yeah I remember my drama isn't
- 23:07like didn't even have him. Like they had him as a guest
- 23:10like for the longest time until they started like airing it and
- 23:15realizing because I mean obviously most of those websites
- 23:19are like community-based. So right well didn't know
- 23:22because the information wasn't out there type thing but before
- 23:27this drama I think he had not been in a drama in a while.
- 23:32Yeah. He you know long time.
- 23:35All right, and I was curious to see what he won.
- 23:40I was curious because I hadn't seen him in a drama in a really
- 23:43long time. And I wanted to because I'm a
- 23:44very big fan of his. But I also was curious what he
- 23:49would do in this type of role because I hadn't seen him even
- 23:55in a crime drama before I think the last try and I've seen him
- 24:00like somewhat in a crime drama. I I never have not seen this
- 24:03drama, but it's on my list. Is it was like, bad thief.
- 24:07Good thief from like 2016-2017? Yeah.
- 24:12That, I think he was a lawyer or a cop in that one.
- 24:14I don't think he, I don't remember what the synopsis says
- 24:18his character was. But I like, I think I was
- 24:22intrigued also because the drama didn't give us anything.
- 24:25Like they didn't say who he was. So I was like, okay, well one, I
- 24:30already know I'm watching this because of the two main leads,
- 24:33right? But I also am really Ali curious
- 24:35what his role is because the one they like they also announced
- 24:39it. If I remember correctly, very
- 24:41late. It was we had already announced
- 24:43the two leads and then all of a sudden they're like, oh yeah,
- 24:45he's joining it to. And I'm like okay all right well
- 24:48I like him so I'm gonna yeah watch this guy, he's kind of a
- 24:52Kevin Spacey of it all and I mean that in the best way
- 24:56possible, not in the worst way because Kevin Spacey takes on a
- 24:58whole new meaning now in 2022. But back in the day he was like
- 25:02the pinch hitter for a lot. Of Thriller movies, considering
- 25:08he was the pinch-hitter and secret cast member of seven and
- 25:13it was the same way for my God, what's that The Usual Suspects
- 25:19where he was like a main player. But then, you know, obviously
- 25:22there's a Twist at the end of The Usual Suspects and Kevin
- 25:25Spacey like you would never think that Kim Joon would give
- 25:29off the Kevin Spacey Vibe. No, but we could talk about it
- 25:34later on in. Spoilers.
- 25:36He did fantastic. He's fantastic.
- 25:38It was my favorite. He was he was definitely like a
- 25:41highlight of this drama for me. Yeah, I also love the fact
- 25:45because people noticed him to like this was his this is this
- 25:49drama was of introduction for a lot of people to him which
- 25:52always makes me happy. When actors I'm a fan of or
- 25:57actresses, I'm a fan of and know going into dramas where other
- 26:01people might not know them. Because I don't know, they have
- 26:04never been In the lead role in this is their first lead role or
- 26:07they're just a memorable supporting character.
- 26:11And they want to see like, oh my God, I'm blanking on his name.
- 26:17The lawyer from extraordinary extraordinary attorney, the the
- 26:22boss guy. Oh yeah, yeah yeah, I feel like
- 26:25his last name is Kang. Yeah, but he's been at.
- 26:29He mean, he's one of those supporting characters I have
- 26:31been in every he said that guy, you like, oh, it's that guy from
- 26:35that drama and you never write. You got a lot of hype with that
- 26:41and like people were like, oh man, like I know he's been in a
- 26:44lot of Dramas but I've never really noticed him.
- 26:47He got a lot more traction with that and I always liked that
- 26:50when the happened Kang, kek Kang Chi Yong conky on.
- 26:54Yeah. Yeah, I loved him before.
- 26:57Extraordinary. Whoo attorney Wu.
- 26:59Yeah I but I like when I that type of thing happens and I
- 27:03think flower evil, this was kind of.
- 27:05Yeah. Kim ji Hoon.
- 27:06This was ji Hoon the center and he woves.
- 27:09Yeah. Team old signs for I think a lot
- 27:11of people I just remember on Twitter a lot of people like who
- 27:14is this guy? This guy is insane.
- 27:17And I was showing like I was like posting pictures of him,
- 27:21like really buff do my God so that all and all that stuff.
- 27:25He and yeah, he's super He's fit.
- 27:29And yeah, I think he's shirtless results in the long hair.
- 27:32Also, the long hair help, and he still has a long hair.
- 27:37I'm answering follower, he still has it.
- 27:39I mean, he had it in money heís too many high schools this year,
- 27:42but yes, he played. Denver money highest and yeah,
- 27:45joint economic area whatever. Yeah, so anyways I liked I liked
- 27:49this drama because of him as well.
- 27:51Like he was a major factor of me watching this drama interesting
- 27:55and I'm glad you're not gatekeeping can do.
- 27:57And you've heard Good night, meant to be like a gatekeeper
- 28:00people. I'm like, oh yeah.
- 28:02I know that guy for years. Not personally, I put just in
- 28:06these drawers too many at this point.
- 28:08There's too many. I can't really get keep
- 28:09everybody rides. It's like it's like I've known
- 28:13this person from 2009 2010 and people are just discovering of
- 28:17now. What it, what can I do, right?
- 28:21All right, what did you think of?
- 28:23I guess we should go to our main guy ijen guy--.
- 28:26His it's and his journey throughout the course of the
- 28:30show because I feel like he goes through a roller coaster just in
- 28:37terms of internal and external. So I was really, I don't know.
- 28:43If I was blown away by his performance necessarily, I think
- 28:47it was good, but was it the best that I've ever seen of him?
- 28:51I kind of feel like the moon lovers kind of clinched at for
- 28:54me, because that one was another emotional.
- 28:57The roller coaster and Infamous ending.
- 29:01But in this one, I don't know. I have on the fence about it.
- 29:08Okay. Yeah.
- 29:10I mean, I was once I have not seen moved moon lovers.
- 29:13I mean, I've seen enough where I like know his acting but I think
- 29:18I enjoyed his acting in this a lot.
- 29:21I think, for me, it was different.
- 29:26I think before that I had seen him in like Wallace, oyler
- 29:33lawyer and like these types of roles where again, you shows off
- 29:37his fighting skill and doesn't really it's kind of, like, His
- 29:43character can only be so much when you're like a fighting
- 29:46person. And so I think flower of evil
- 29:50kind of showed his other his range that he could do in terms
- 29:56of Being like is he potentially an evil character is he not and
- 30:03him being able to play around with that being a family man and
- 30:07showing off that side of him? And that character I think I
- 30:13think what I loved about this was like on one hand, the
- 30:19character was like cold and not emotional and kind of distance.
- 30:26But then he also Like a really creepy distant type of way and
- 30:31then he also was like the loving father and but I think what he
- 30:37did so well was like even when he was playing like the loving
- 30:41father and doting husband part of his character.
- 30:44It's still somewhat came off as creepy sometimes because you
- 30:47never really knew if he was actually the bad guy or if he
- 30:52was a killer or if he liked was going crazy like you.
- 30:57Did not know, right? And I think I had never seen him
- 31:01do that type of character and I think that expanded his range
- 31:05and showed people. What more than he could do.
- 31:10Because I mean I think what it comes down to his.
- 31:13I have not seen a lot of his movies.
- 31:14He might have shown this some more and movie roles but in
- 31:18terms of Dramas that I've seen them, it was all like fighting
- 31:21Kick-Ass, bring down the patriarchy bring down
- 31:25everything. Like yeah, he has affected this
- 31:27was more round around in character for him.
- 31:31Yeah. He's definitely been ill to me
- 31:33for almost his entire career at Le Jimmy is basically like a Not
- 31:38Peter Pan, Robin Hood like, a Robin Hood, kind of care.
- 31:41Yeah, and he's very Cocky and Confident and like you said a
- 31:48fighter, he's got this Persona, like that scene where he was
- 31:52show, like staring at himself in the mirror and like, had those
- 31:56cards of This is What Happy Looks like this.
- 31:59That was creepy. Like I thought he did that very
- 32:02well. So, here's my thing about it, is
- 32:05that he is I want to say what mid 30s late 30s.
- 32:12I think in the show, I he's supposed to be in the show like
- 32:15a are the character is 40? I mean the, the actors he's 40?
- 32:19Yes. So he's, yeah, I think he's
- 32:21earned it is almost 40. Yeah, I think he's in the show.
- 32:23I think he's around the same age and he I don't think this is
- 32:27much of a spoiler, but he's been married for 10 years.
- 32:30I think. And I it's not that he's
- 32:36watching, he's no, not over this, it's not that he's
- 32:39watching these videos of how to express emotions.
- 32:44Is that he's doing it still to this day after 10 years of
- 32:49marriage, still studying emotion.
- 32:53It just feels really belated and why would he still be doing
- 32:57this? He hasn't had this lesson before
- 33:00is this a refresher on how to be sad or Be happy.
- 33:03So that was like my nitpick I guess is that?
- 33:06I was like, okay cool, he's very creepy here but plot W like
- 33:11timeline-wise. This doesn't make sense to me.
- 33:16Okay, is, yeah, that's fast. Been married and under this
- 33:21playing, this charade for, like, over a decade.
- 33:25And now he's looking up out of how to be happy, how to look
- 33:28happy in front of her so that didn't click for me.
- 33:31But I will say that I felt this more on first watch what I was
- 33:36watching in nine months ago but he does a good job of playing
- 33:41creepy and he does a good job of being an unreliable narrator.
- 33:46Which it's not that he's literally voiceover narrating
- 33:49the show, but he is the protagonist and you kind of
- 33:53believe you. You want to believe in this,
- 33:56dude? The whole show and when he does
- 34:00things that are kind of creepy or you know I don't think I can
- 34:04get behind that. You just did x y z you are put
- 34:08in a position. Like do I still support this
- 34:10dude even if all of a sudden I think he's a murderer or
- 34:14whatever. So I think it's kind of
- 34:18challenging the audience, a lot of the time for their own
- 34:23perception. Like why why are you rooting for
- 34:25this guy? He's very shady, he's doing
- 34:29this. He doesn't know how to be happy
- 34:31if he doesn't know how to express sadness.
- 34:33He's faking it or whatever. So I think it is kind of playing
- 34:40up the audience sympathies and especially for this actor who is
- 34:45quite Beloved at this point, you know, for years removed from
- 34:49moon lovers, people want to see EG and they want to root for
- 34:54him. And they have this really
- 34:57interesting beefy character. Like they're he's sinking his
- 35:00teeth into and again very unreliable.
- 35:03You don't know who to trust and I think that kind of brings me
- 35:08to Moon, Chae, one's character, I really like her.
- 35:14Usually I think When I was watching, it nine months ago.
- 35:17I didn't think that she was annoying.
- 35:19Now, when I finish the show, I was like, man.
- 35:21She was kind of annoying. What did you think?
- 35:23I meant you on again? I had not seen her in a lot
- 35:28before this so This was a different character for me.
- 35:33Because again, before the only thing I really had seen her and
- 35:36was that tiger one. I was just describing.
- 35:40I can't remember what it's called that.
- 35:42I'm a pharaoh in the would get Ava ferry.
- 35:44That was really like. That was the, that was the
- 35:47drama. That was kind of fresh in my
- 35:48mind for that. So again, I appreciated the fact
- 35:51that this was a different character that I had never seen
- 35:54her in. I appreciated that. it was, It
- 35:59was a Character that seem to meld well with Lee Joon GI think
- 36:07they have very good chemistry and played off.
- 36:09Well, I will say though the I think why?
- 36:15Like I thought the writers sort of did it in her perspective in
- 36:18terms of making Lee Yoo Jun jie like The audience, what you were
- 36:25just saying like the audience, not really trusting a guy not
- 36:29knowing I remember thinking oh they're kind of writing it from
- 36:33her perspective, like she doesn't know to help whether the
- 36:36trust him she's starting to notice, his facade crumble, a
- 36:41little bit, that type of thing. Whereas the audience are
- 36:43noticing the same thing, I don't remember that.
- 36:49I found her annoying, I kind of like II I liked that.
- 36:54She was like, Like a badass cop, but I'm also very partial for
- 37:00female cops. Like I like, yeah.
- 37:02I love when female cops and I also think I liked her in terms
- 37:08of She was, she was a wife. She was a mother.
- 37:12She kind of had it all. And could do it all.
- 37:15Yeah, she's super mom. Yeah, super mom.
- 37:18And I liked seeing the turmoil within herself of like her,
- 37:27realizing that The crime she's investigating her husband could
- 37:33potentially have been the criminal and her having to deal
- 37:38with those emotions and trying to figure out what to do next.
- 37:43I thought that was a very interesting Dilemma to have.
- 37:50Hmm. And to try to figure out, I
- 37:53could see why you thought she was annoying.
- 37:55I mean, I wouldn't say, I think I did find her annoying in some
- 37:59Um, certain scenes and some like especially you have like her
- 38:04reaction to something, but I think overall I didn't end up
- 38:08finding her annoying. I think it had to do with,
- 38:10towards the leader episode, she's crying a lot and she
- 38:13doesn't think she is. I think I have an issue when
- 38:17people. This is very specific but you
- 38:21have these beautiful people and they start crying and they look
- 38:24great crying fine. She looks like, she's not even
- 38:27crying she cries without. Moving her face and it's kind of
- 38:32like, I don't know how many actors can do this, where they
- 38:36just cry with like a straight face.
- 38:39And she is one of those actresses that can just like a
- 38:42lot of Tears. A lot of Waterworks she's not
- 38:44moving a muscle. She looks very Angelic and
- 38:47Serene, and that sort of thing, really bothers me.
- 38:52It is such an each thing. I don't know if anyone else if
- 38:56anybody else feels this way, but maybe, Maybe that's why I found
- 39:011201 a little bit annoying towards the end, but I agree
- 39:03with you that she had a wonderful, very entertaining
- 39:07journey and that she was acting very well.
- 39:10Through this internal struggle and questioning, everything
- 39:15herself, her life, her husband, her job, her co-workers,
- 39:20everything is Up For Debate. Everything is being stress,
- 39:26stress tested in her life, and it is, Quite interesting to see
- 39:31where they come out on towards the later episodes and what she
- 39:35resolves within herself and in the relationship with Egypt Keys
- 39:39character, I think the show had a lot to do with what is the
- 39:45role that DNA plays on mental illness and disorders and what
- 39:50is identity? Can you rise above pain and
- 39:54Trauma and family Legacy? What is your true self?
- 39:59Like how do you Find your true self.
- 40:01And, you know, how do you stay true to yourself in the midst of
- 40:04all of this pain and things that are out of your control?
- 40:09So many characters were asking towards the end.
- 40:11Why is this? I don't understand why this is
- 40:13happening to me and I feel like every one of us has a moment in
- 40:17our lives where we say the same thing, like I didn't do anything
- 40:20for this to happen to me. So why is this happening to me?
- 40:24And these kind of questions are really profound, even if the
- 40:28flower of evil plot is, Me grandiose and very complicated
- 40:33and kdrama E, it's intense, but at the end of the day, I feel
- 40:39like these are just people and they're going through
- 40:43extraordinary things and you feel, you feel for them and you
- 40:48feel it and you just empathize with them a lot especially
- 40:53towards the end when they're feeling, sorry for themselves.
- 40:56And they're asking those questions like why is this?
- 40:58I don't understand why is This happening to me and I feel like
- 41:02these are all really important things to discuss and talk about
- 41:07and have these things crop up in a kdrama that is really kind of
- 41:12a melodrama. I kind of didn't find it so much
- 41:15a criminal drama as much as it was like a traditional kdrama
- 41:21melodrama. Oh yeah I mean a huge part of
- 41:23this drama was about their relationship and how they were
- 41:26going to whether this humongous Between the two of them
- 41:31essentially. Yeah.
- 41:33And what was going to play out? I mean yes it was a crime drama
- 41:37but yes, I totally agree. It was a very much of a
- 41:41melodrama somewhat romantic drama at the same time.
- 41:47Yes. Last thing I want to mention is
- 41:50like what did you think of the kid, their child?
- 41:54I thought I was adorable. I said she's adorable, isn't she
- 41:58the cutest thing you've ever seen?
- 42:01EG with a child actor and bouncing off a, who's supposed
- 42:07to be his daughter in the drama is probably the most adorable
- 42:12thing. Like you're just like my ovaries
- 42:14are going to explode that kind of thing.
- 42:16Like I didn't know I needed this but apparently I do need this
- 42:19and it is really something to see.
- 42:22I think that more dramas should employ Child Actors and you
- 42:28know, we've had some good ones on the show.
- 42:30We've covered for debauch, like peel gu from when the Camellia
- 42:34blooms is like a really good child actor.
- 42:36You're like, oh my God, I love this kid.
- 42:38I feel so bad for him and just, like, in the grand tradition of
- 42:42like, wonderful child actors in kdramas, this little girl did
- 42:47really well as well. I think she was a good addition
- 42:51and a whole new like level to their relationship as well.
- 42:55But I almost feel like towards the end she's kind of taken out
- 42:59of the equation. Asian.
- 43:00Yes. And we can talk about that some
- 43:03more, but in the spoiler section.
- 43:05But I'm gonna go ahead and ask you, what would you rate the
- 43:08power of evil out of five Soldier bottles?
- 43:13I would say four, four and a half.
- 43:16Okay. Wow.
- 43:16Because again, the end of 15 start of 16, really threw me for
- 43:22a loop and like, really affected my watching but I grow used to
- 43:27it by the end of the show, but I think, Really effective my
- 43:30rating for this drama. So I would say for four and a
- 43:33half, I think I would give it a three and a half maybe for on a
- 43:39good day. I am still really close to the
- 43:42drama. I'm not that far removed from
- 43:44it. Maybe in a week, it'll be three.
- 43:47Maybe, you know, we could all be for naught half, I don't know.
- 43:50But right now, I'm just kind of sitting in the middle.
- 43:52It was entertaining for sure. Wasn't?
- 43:56What I watch it again. I don't think so.
- 43:59Okay. And that I think affects my
- 44:01rating, a lot is re-watch ability even though like I don't
- 44:05know why I even think that way because I don't end up watching
- 44:08re watching kdramas almost ever like my own either earlier.
- 44:13I like nice, watch out you can count on.
- 44:15I think I can count on one hand. How many dramas?
- 44:18Yes we watched same. I used to re-watch kdramas early
- 44:22when I was early in my kdrama career.
- 44:24Now I don't do it ever. I just move on to the next gauge
- 44:28so my feel bad. Basing a lot of my score on
- 44:31re-watch ability, but there it is.
- 44:32Anyway. I think we're going to get
- 44:34started on the spoilers. So, stick around, if you've
- 44:37watched flower of evil, we're going to do spoilers right after
- 44:41this. You want to come in.
- 44:50All right, we're on the other side of spoilers, so Caitlin,
- 44:52where do you want to start for strollers?
- 44:54I think you kept alluding to like episode 15, 16 and the
- 44:58ending. So, so I don't mind starting at
- 45:00the end and like kind of working our way back through the drama.
- 45:04Um, what happened was in episode 15, we get head trauma, he gets
- 45:10shot and Eden Keys character has Amnesia.
- 45:16Yeah, that he basically wakes up after a month of being in a coma
- 45:22and he is in a frame of mind in 2005, he thinks it's 2005.
- 45:29He has no Recollection of the past 15 years has no
- 45:31recollection of when Jones character his wife his daughter.
- 45:35None of the drama that they just went through with serial killers
- 45:38and the accomplice, and the father, and all this stuff.
- 45:41So I, what do I even say to that?
- 45:47It was 2005. Like I said before the sport, we
- 45:49broke for spoilers. Um, did I think they're going to
- 45:54do Amnesia in the show? Know, if you had interviewed Lee
- 45:57not end of episode 14, I would be like, what do you mean
- 46:00they're gonna do? Have you do that?
- 46:01Would never do that. Um, no.
- 46:04They did it and they stuck to, they stuck it, like, they can't
- 46:09with it. It wasn't like, oh, he's, I
- 46:13don't even know, like, like he's faking it or something.
- 46:17Yeah, yes. Because he can fake so many
- 46:19things. He did not fake his and meet
- 46:21you, right? It was real.
- 46:24What did you think of it? Where did you land at the end?
- 46:27You said you kind of were in a place of Acceptance in the final
- 46:32suit was so mad when it happened.
- 46:35I like remember vividly being like, Oh, come on show.
- 46:39I literally said that because, I mean, and I usually, as I said
- 46:43earlier, I usually love this Trope.
- 46:45I love when they stick it in Asia into dramas, I find it
- 46:49either hilarious or I'm like yes more and be like I like my Like
- 46:53John's where there's like six characters I have amnesia in the
- 46:56hundred episodes, like I'll usually love it but I remember
- 47:00absolutely hating this decision to put this in here because I
- 47:04think I'll know if I would have had an issue with it, if it
- 47:08happened earlier like episode 13 or 14, but I think I was a
- 47:13little angry because it happened going into episode 16.
- 47:18Ha ha. So, I was like, how were they
- 47:21going to end this drama when he has Nisha like is he just going
- 47:25to have amnesia and that's going to be the end.
- 47:27Like I just didn't I didn't understand.
- 47:30So I think what I really was mad about was like the placement of
- 47:34the Amnesia, Okay? And like because I felt like
- 47:38well it's a cop-out, they don't know what else to do because
- 47:41they've kind of wrapped up everything to an extent, right
- 47:46by the end of 15. And so, instead of showing this
- 47:50happy family They're going to put one last twist into it and
- 47:56whatever. So I remember hating that
- 47:59decision, but then by the end, like we did get that reunions
- 48:04like the really cute scene, where he was at his daughter
- 48:08school and okay. So I'll jump in here.
- 48:15I thought that it was I was stunned and then I thought it
- 48:21was extremely cheap of them to have him have amnesia and then
- 48:24they kept saying it reiterating, his diagnosis was perfectly
- 48:28normal, he should be healed up, he should be awake by now
- 48:31shouldn't be in a coma and all this stuff.
- 48:33He wakes up 15 years gone for some reason, there was no sign
- 48:37of brain. Trauma.
- 48:38No sign that he would have amnesia no reason for it.
- 48:41He just woke up 15 years in the past and I'll I think a lot of
- 48:49what. So if you can say that the
- 48:52Amnesia was sold to me, it was that a lot of characters were
- 48:55saying that they couldn't quite wrap their head around his
- 48:58personality now and how it seemed like he was a different
- 49:02but the same kind of a meshing between his old old personality.
- 49:07And when I say old old, I just mean his teenage personality and
- 49:10then who he came to be towards the end of the Fiasco is all I
- 49:15can say, because he was Very emotional manic, you can almost
- 49:20say and in love with his wife, like ultimately accepted that he
- 49:25had feelings for his wife, was deeply in love with her and
- 49:29wanted to fix the situation and come out on top.
- 49:35Now, he's kind of devoid of all the feelings for toward his
- 49:39wife, but it's still kind of Back In Those Old rhythms of
- 49:45antisocial personality disorder. Personality disorder right?
- 49:49Which is very common in cage. Well, that's also a very common
- 49:53kdrama Trope to have a character.
- 49:55That's has a disorder. Think it just I think what what
- 49:59worked at me Stu was like they kind of just reset the whole
- 50:02story again. Hmm, they reset him back to the
- 50:06beginning and him trying to figure out Like right.
- 50:12What are his feelings? He was you know what his
- 50:15emotions were now dealing with everything being revealed yet
- 50:19again like and granted. It wasn't like the things being
- 50:23revealed going at the beginning of drama.
- 50:25We're not the same things being revealed now but like I just saw
- 50:31it just I didn't think that was needed.
- 50:33I didn't think that was like, it would be different if it was
- 50:37like episode 13 or 14 and he had the like ReDiscover his love
- 50:43again, but it's like it's episode 16 who have like 45 50
- 50:47minutes to do that. Like, are you serious?
- 50:49Right right. I mean, he, yeah, you know,
- 50:52there's a moment where they have this conversation in the car
- 50:55between the both of them husband and wife and he's telling About
- 51:02the how he knows how to cook dishes.
- 51:03He's never even before and how he's got all this talent for
- 51:07metalworking the comes out. And he doesn't know like where
- 51:10the talent kind of came from, where this experience came from.
- 51:12He doesn't remember doing all of the stuff and he admits that
- 51:17he's this master manipulator and he knows what she wants to hear
- 51:21even though he doesn't really know her.
- 51:23And it's kind of interesting to see him work his magic.
- 51:26I kind of wanted him to say that he's He's still faking it, but
- 51:31at the end, he wasn't like, faking the crying in the car,
- 51:35the Waterworks this whole like a more personal display, like that
- 51:37was real. And and I think that's what made
- 51:41like this whole concept of him. Relearning, his emotions to when
- 51:46I going back to, this was a more well-rounded role for you
- 51:51joong-ki to play. Like, I don't remember any of
- 51:55his previous roles like he. Yeah, he cried in previous roles
- 51:58and whatever. But like, right, Being this
- 52:01emotional in this distraught and this kind of manic in certain
- 52:06scenes overall. I had never seen him act like
- 52:11that before. So I think that was another
- 52:13reason why I loved his performance.
- 52:16It has drama. Well I did like that scene and
- 52:20especially because you're talking about you didn't go he
- 52:24doesn't remember this, 15 year Journey, this emotional Journey
- 52:28that he's been on and he doesn't have the memories to back this
- 52:32up. So, you know, he was saying,
- 52:35whatever love or feelings that he has.
- 52:37He doesn't know how long they'll last because he's How do we used
- 52:40to be? And I like this analogy that he
- 52:44gave, it says, he feels like they're Shackled and running in
- 52:48circles and that she's just chasing him this entire time and
- 52:52I have in my notes so much crying.
- 52:55I cried a lot and you cried a lot and she cries do.
- 53:00They all did like the last couple of episodes were just I
- 53:04mean chewing up scenery, they were really just crying all the
- 53:08time. And I like that he is, I don't
- 53:14know if they'd give it enough time but the you know, he's
- 53:15saying that he doesn't know why he feels a certain way and he
- 53:20doesn't know how to label things and he comes home and the
- 53:23journalists minsu is confronts him.
- 53:24About the excessive amount of egg Tarts that are in the fridge
- 53:27and he's just like, I can't help but buying every time I see the
- 53:29egg Tarts, I have to buy them, he has no idea that it's because
- 53:33of his daughter that he would always buy his daughter egg
- 53:36Tarts that was her thing. So it's very Sad and kind of
- 53:41manufactured. I think it's what I want to say.
- 53:45It's kind of like the end of a Pixar movie, where you're just
- 53:47like, oh my God, assaulted by feelings.
- 53:50And because of the Amnesia, and the further Journey, that he has
- 53:55to go on. It feels very manipulative and
- 54:00not in an earned way because had they had this sort of, like
- 54:05moment of catharsis when he was himself after all of this.
- 54:09Google and strife that they had been through and he, maybe he
- 54:12wakes up from his coma and he's like ready to kind of talk it
- 54:17out with his wife and restart their relationship.
- 54:20Instead of literally, restarting their entire relationship
- 54:24because of the Ambrosia. That would be a different story.
- 54:27But instead they have him just kind of stumbling around his
- 54:33feelings. And it's, it's annoying because
- 54:37you have these emotional touch points like the egg.
- 54:39That you have the the rings that he can't seem to take off his
- 54:43wedding ring because he feels incomplete without it and that
- 54:47he says he keeps hurting himself while he's metalworking if he
- 54:51doesn't have the ring on. So it's like he has these tokens
- 54:55but he doesn't know what they mean and it's kind of just very
- 54:592005 kdrama. Like what can I say right right.
- 55:04Yeah so I found that annoying but also like good in a Shallow
- 55:10way is good. The final sequence of him going
- 55:15to the house because, of course, she's putting it up for sale,
- 55:17just going to move away to Busan and he's like reading the notes.
- 55:23These notebooks have just notes on her.
- 55:25Like she loves the rain. She has a, she doesn't like
- 55:29this, she loves moth, I've she loves butterflies but hates
- 55:33moths, like, things like that were written in these journals
- 55:37that, you know, he's kind of more Attached to now he's
- 55:41reading it and she's like, you can't have that because you
- 55:44know, it's about me and you don't want anything to do with
- 55:46me evidently and you know, she tells him she's moving away.
- 55:50He's like why would you leave? When I'm finally taking my first
- 55:54step toward you. And again I like how did he come
- 55:59to that conclusion? Like I don't know if it was just
- 56:04he can't he can't live without her.
- 56:08He just has that they have to learn to love each other all
- 56:11over again. Like what?
- 56:12I don't know, I don't know. They go to the well I think that
- 56:16was the thing. I think the cat that was the I
- 56:22think he couldn't figure out who he really wanted to be or who he
- 56:27was and what he had dealt with not only within the last 15
- 56:32years that he lost but within the last year.
- 56:35Or so however long the drama actually takes place without her
- 56:40being there. Like she was a very big reason
- 56:42on helping him find his memories again, find e whether that was
- 56:48good or bad. And so he needed her there.
- 56:53He needed some type of anchor and that she she was the anchor.
- 57:00Yeah that's a great point. That she was this steady
- 57:05presence in his life for 15 years and she basically taught
- 57:08him everything that he needed to know about emotions in life and
- 57:12living to the fullest and appreciating the little things
- 57:15in life. And I can't think You're right
- 57:20that he kind of just goes back to her and he's like I think you
- 57:22need you, I think I'm curious now about that guy that is
- 57:26missing like the guy that I used to be I we should find him
- 57:30together. I think is what he tells her it
- 57:32was a nice thought, I don't know.
- 57:36I'm still like really upset I guess about the Amnesia again
- 57:42that was not it was not my favorite decision either.
- 57:45I just I it was a cop-out. It was something that the
- 57:48writers in my opinion. Is something that the writer is
- 57:51basically, did not know what to do with episode 16.
- 57:54So they wanted to create one final twist in order to MMM and
- 58:02like, keep people, I guess keep people invested even though it
- 58:06was the last episode. And right?
- 58:10Yeah, I did not. I also did not like the decision
- 58:13but yeah. He's yeah.
- 58:16All right. Well we might come back Circle
- 58:18back to the ending, but I feel like we kind of talked about the
- 58:23Indonesia enough episode 1 was a good episode because it ends
- 58:27with him, kidnapping, the journalist moo-jin which is when
- 58:32people were like, oh my God, what a junkie is that it never
- 58:38and he's very creepy and he's got the serial killer plastic on
- 58:44the ground. And he's saying really creepy
- 58:47things and you're just like, oh my God, what does he have to do
- 58:50with the serial killer case and he owned do?
- 58:53And it's just very soft like, he's just so sauce in episode
- 58:58one. Yeah.
- 58:59But episode one also has these moments between him and his wife
- 59:03were like, oh my God, they're so in love.
- 59:08And that's something else that I don't think.
- 59:10I don't think we should just gloss over.
- 59:12It said that Utopia that he built for their family is just
- 59:18that like a Utopia. You kind of get the sense that
- 59:22something's wrong, even though you see that everything is
- 59:25right. And, you know, they're seen
- 59:28making out and having sex in the morning.
- 59:30Things like that, the co-workers that she comes in contact with
- 59:34that day or like, you guys are still in the honeymoon.
- 59:36Period, and it's been like 10 years Years.
- 59:38Since you've been married, isn't that crazy?
- 59:40That's so weird. And she's like, haha is my life.
- 59:42Great. And you're like, girl, what if
- 59:46there's something wrong here, because after 10 years of
- 59:50marriage, a lot of stuff is going to start to fade, and sort
- 59:54of that high of the honeymoon. Period should be well and worn
- 1:00:00by now. And so, I think that it's kind
- 1:00:04of interesting from a kdrama perspective.
- 1:00:08To see a 10-year marriage, and see a going really well and
- 1:00:12realize that it's not right, because right, usually kdramas
- 1:00:17end at the marriage. Like when they say at the
- 1:00:19wedding, they start their life together.
- 1:00:21Officially and you don't see this 10 years down the line or
- 1:00:2615 years down the line, what the couple looks like.
- 1:00:29And here we see them 10 years in and all hell's about to break
- 1:00:33loose in their lives. So I think it is a little bit
- 1:00:38Kind of subverting expectations. And then throughout the show, we
- 1:00:41see flashbacks of their courtship and really her kind of
- 1:00:45chasing him and being very proactive about her feelings and
- 1:00:51kind of confronting him about his feelings.
- 1:00:54A lot of the time, she's the one that I think confesses to him is
- 1:00:57felt like gender reversals for a lot of the tropes and kdrama.
- 1:01:02So very interesting writing especially for their
- 1:01:06relationship. I would say.
- 1:01:09Right. And I think also it's like if so
- 1:01:15going back to the example of him, looking in the mirror and
- 1:01:20practicing like I imagined he had been doing that for 10 years
- 1:01:24to keep up the facade to keep up this got him.
- 1:01:29Happy marriage. Like he had to work and he had
- 1:01:33to work for 10 years to keep that up.
- 1:01:36I like that. So I think as you said like it
- 1:01:40it's creepy in a way because it's so perfect and that's kind
- 1:01:44of That's kind of his doing like he wanted to make it as perfect
- 1:01:50as possible. So his wife who's a cop could
- 1:01:54not, see ya potentially, what could like between the lines?
- 1:02:01Mmm. Like she had no idea if there
- 1:02:05was something there or not. So when it starts to crumble,
- 1:02:10when she starts to investigate this case, mmm, There's only so
- 1:02:16much like you can do and how long you can keep that up.
- 1:02:20And I think that's why it started 10 years into their
- 1:02:24marriage, because something was going to break at some point and
- 1:02:28that was just the Catalyst but that, that, that brought on a
- 1:02:32sense of creepiness for the entire show because again, he
- 1:02:36had to keep that up for 10 years, right?
- 1:02:41The kids. Oh, so let's talk about the, I
- 1:02:44guess, port. Real of antisocial personality
- 1:02:47disorder, especially when it pertains to his childhood in the
- 1:02:49flashbacks that we see of him in his hometown and how the
- 1:02:53townspeople thought he was possessed because they just had
- 1:02:58no frame of reference for his condition.
- 1:03:02Also, the kid that played him. Yeah, the actor looked.
- 1:03:06I remember the first time seeing him on screen, I was like, is
- 1:03:09that hit? Like I think you look so much
- 1:03:12like him at a younger age. Yeah, he's very angular
- 1:03:15features, just like Angie and yeah that kid looked very
- 1:03:19similar to eating a I will admit that.
- 1:03:21Yeah, they find such. Sometimes I find such good
- 1:03:24casting with the younger and older.
- 1:03:27Right? Counterparts, and I agree.
- 1:03:30I agree. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:31So this That this town was awful, just straight-up
- 1:03:34terrible. They were like, kidnapping him
- 1:03:36to do exorcisms on him every few days or something.
- 1:03:40It was absolutely wild and I think I could be wrong.
- 1:03:47Could be reading too much into this, but this could be almost
- 1:03:51the writer and the showrunners kind of calling Korean Society,
- 1:03:58like Backwoods. Like Stone Age level thinking
- 1:04:06and like really out of touch and you know, all these negative
- 1:04:14things, I feel like they were trying to portray them as really
- 1:04:18ignorant toward right illness and mental disorders.
- 1:04:24I think use, I think you get a sense of that.
- 1:04:27I mean, we've seen that in other dramas.
- 1:04:29Oh yeah, exactly. We've seen that thing.
- 1:04:31Where if anything seems to be off about somebody whether
- 1:04:35female male their kind of shunned from a society.
- 1:04:40And some terms, they did exactly what they did to you, junie's
- 1:04:43character where they bring in an exorcist.
- 1:04:48It like we see that even in in America like in some like people
- 1:04:56find think like religious people, sometimes think they're
- 1:05:03Like, they're want to say, like children, but like people who
- 1:05:08are different, they shun like Society.
- 1:05:11It's different. They don't, they are not of the
- 1:05:13norm, so, like the demonic possession.
- 1:05:17I think you've seen and all of the religions real cases of it
- 1:05:22all over the world. And it's sad, it's a very sad
- 1:05:26and I think we have seen this in other dramas.
- 1:05:31We've seen this in other movies. Other countries too and other
- 1:05:34shows and it's just it's a sad occurrence that happens in real
- 1:05:39life when something when someone does not go with the norm and
- 1:05:45whether they are purposely, not going with the norm and they are
- 1:05:49need to be put into place or they're just different and they
- 1:05:52don't know why. In this case that's the case
- 1:05:55where he's just different and they don't know, understand it,
- 1:06:00they don't want to understand it.
- 1:06:02It right? And they want to put up the
- 1:06:05facade, that they have a perfect community, and he's the sore
- 1:06:08thumb, hmm. Like he's the one that stands
- 1:06:12out and they can't really do anything about it, so they tried
- 1:06:15to exercise it from him is quite maddening.
- 1:06:20I think for, especially for the audience, because, obviously, we
- 1:06:22can't, he can't do anything but watch this Mayhem happen and
- 1:06:27this great Injustice happened to this kid and see how it kind of
- 1:06:31wrecks him in the Flashbacks, we're to the point where he's
- 1:06:34like, maybe I am possessed and he thinks right.
- 1:06:37Then maybe he is a monster and he starts seeing his father as
- 1:06:40his crazy Apparition and just hallucinates his father.
- 1:06:44Or I don't know if it's a delusion at that point, it's
- 1:06:46just crazy how it's the town's folk that kind of drive him
- 1:06:52further into. Like, I just being really messed
- 1:06:58up and yeah, perhaps he was kind of a very passive.
- 1:07:02Of antisocial person with the disorder and then, he kind of
- 1:07:07got worse. Maybe after this right?
- 1:07:10Terrible exorcisms, every 3 days.
- 1:07:12I don't, I mean, who's to say? I think it would have wrecked
- 1:07:14with even a perfectly sane person.
- 1:07:17So it is very sad to see how it was the people around him, that
- 1:07:23kind of drove him to the edge and to make that decision to
- 1:07:28take the blame for the death of the foreman and things like
- 1:07:31that. He was like We're why would they
- 1:07:33believe us? When we say that it was in
- 1:07:36self-defense or something that my sister did this, my
- 1:07:38self-defense? They would never believe us.
- 1:07:40Our father is a known serial killer and they think I'm crazy.
- 1:07:45They think I'm possessed. Yeah, why would this?
- 1:07:47I think, I think the big thing was like, I think there was a
- 1:07:51lot of things going against him, even if it was just If it was
- 1:07:55just him being antisocial and him being weird, that was enough
- 1:08:00for this, but then you add on the family history and the known
- 1:08:03serial killer. So then they automatically
- 1:08:05think, well, he must have inherited it, so he's going to
- 1:08:09be a bad apple to like, it doesn't fart.
- 1:08:12Fall far from the tree type thing.
- 1:08:14And again, we see this type of thing and other dramas,
- 1:08:18especially when if like a parent or like you're related to
- 1:08:22something bad, your end up going.
- 1:08:24Be bad. It's a common crime trope.
- 1:08:29But that I think the reason why it's common is because it's
- 1:08:32compelling like you always root for the guy to not be like the
- 1:08:38father to not the like how Society views him, right?
- 1:08:43And so yeah, the cards are already stacked against him and
- 1:08:47it was just made worse by just a natural personality that he was
- 1:08:51born with right. And I got to be honest.
- 1:08:54Thinking about it from a western perspective.
- 1:08:56I would never in a million years think that a Killers, son or
- 1:09:00daughter would also turn out to be a serial killer.
- 1:09:02That makes no sense in my mind. And in fact, I, I guess the
- 1:09:06algorithm on Tick Tock, like knew that I was watching flower
- 1:09:10of evil and I was maybe talking about serial killers a little
- 1:09:13bit and out loud. And so it brought up this video
- 1:09:17of this serial killers daughter. And she was like, I'm the
- 1:09:22daughter of a serial killer X. So and so and I'm going to read
- 1:09:25this letter that my father sent me from jail because he's too If
- 1:09:29served currently serving, like I don't know how many life
- 1:09:31sentences for his killings and it was this like wild letter
- 1:09:34that she read aloud saying that he was innocent saying like
- 1:09:40that. She was a whore because he found
- 1:09:43this photo of her on her wedding day.
- 1:09:45Obviously, he was in Britain, the penitentiary you couldn't
- 1:09:48go, she never invited him, never told him anything and she got
- 1:09:51this crazy letter from her dad like just kind of berating her
- 1:09:53and very Manic and I found that so interesting.
- 1:09:59To see this person kind of open up on social media of all places
- 1:10:03about this crazy experience that she had and how it affects her
- 1:10:08and how she's kind of like a life coach or something now.
- 1:10:11And I was like that is he really tough job to kind of Coach
- 1:10:15people through very similar circumstances as her own?
- 1:10:20And again, it not that every person who is the son or
- 1:10:26daughter of a murderer is going to be Life coach later on in
- 1:10:30their lives. But you know, it is just
- 1:10:33interesting to see that the siblings in this are really just
- 1:10:40fucked because of the serial killer that they had for a
- 1:10:45father and right. At the end of the show, they're
- 1:10:49both like, we don't, we don't really know who we are.
- 1:10:52Like we don't know who our true selves are so we should find out
- 1:10:56like we should find out who we really are, who what we want to
- 1:10:59do, what makes us happy and just stick with that and forget all
- 1:11:03the rest of it move past this and I was like, damn after 20
- 1:11:07years now, they're finally going to get started on forgiving
- 1:11:11themselves and letting go of all of this trauma that has haunted
- 1:11:17them. For all this time, right?
- 1:11:19Which is another very sad and interesting.
- 1:11:21Part of the show is these two and they're Dynamic and how they
- 1:11:26move forward at the end. I think the other side of the
- 1:11:32spectrum I guess is the parents of the, accomplice serial
- 1:11:36killer, right? Who, you know, we get
- 1:11:39confirmation episode 3, that Jones, whose parents are not his
- 1:11:43real parents. He assumed this identity after
- 1:11:45getting getting run over by the car at night.
- 1:11:47I was robbed in the rain, all the shit and the real son was
- 1:11:51comatose and a hidden closet in the surgeons that reveal was
- 1:11:55epic epic. I loved every second of it.
- 1:12:00Yo that was episode 3 row. That was yes early and that was
- 1:12:04a really good reveal. I thread.
- 1:12:08Now we know why nothing was revealed about his character.
- 1:12:11So it was like, yeah I can't really say much about his
- 1:12:15character without spoilers. Because the guy that's in the
- 1:12:18coma is continued and he's the real Becky song.
- 1:12:23Like this comes back to bite them in a major way because
- 1:12:28these parents have all of these altercations have all of this
- 1:12:33like really big conversations between them.
- 1:12:38The surgeon is holding his wife, kind of emotionally hostage and
- 1:12:44they're horrible, horrible, they're horrible people.
- 1:12:47They're horrible to each other. There he's, there's this
- 1:12:51conversation that they have that.
- 1:12:53I want to touch on. They have this argument at the
- 1:12:56house and episode 9 while the grand daughter is home and you
- 1:13:01know dr. Beck is constantly guilting his
- 1:13:04wife or feeling good because of whatever she did to their son.
- 1:13:08It's not disclosed at this point what she did to their son, who's
- 1:13:11comatose to make him a vegetable.
- 1:13:14So and then he she says it's nice to see Well, good food
- 1:13:18again in the house because they don't cook at the house which is
- 1:13:20a huge red flag and Korean culture that they don't cook at
- 1:13:24home and that they don't sit together and have dinners as
- 1:13:26families and shit. And he tries to Gaslight her
- 1:13:30saying. Your depression is flaring up.
- 1:13:33Again, you should go to the hospital and no doubt.
- 1:13:36He's just trying to medicate her into submission, and she's very
- 1:13:40combative here saying that he's the one who should feel guilty
- 1:13:43because, basically, he kept their son, He breathing for
- 1:13:48himself, not for the benefit of their son that he wasn't there
- 1:13:52for any major accomplishment in his life and that she just wants
- 1:13:56to live like everyone else, you know?
- 1:13:59And that if their son could talk their son would ask that they
- 1:14:02kill him and then he slaps her, right?
- 1:14:05And that was like a kind of, you know, writing on the wall for me
- 1:14:10for these two and it was kind of late in episode nine because
- 1:14:13they were sketched throughout the show but they They are just
- 1:14:19so not redeemable. They are so far gone as parents
- 1:14:24and as a couple, they are just barely hanging on and more than
- 1:14:29the mom is just so neurotic and very emotional, just constantly
- 1:14:36having outbursts. And I think, I thought for the
- 1:14:41majority of the show that the husband was the serial killers,
- 1:14:44accomplice, and that he is like the baby cereal.
- 1:14:48In the scenario and the reveal that it's actually the sun was
- 1:14:55very surprising to me. I didn't think they were going
- 1:14:57to go that route at all. Exactly.
- 1:14:59Yeah. What did you think about it was
- 1:15:01beautiful? It was beautiful.
- 1:15:04The old of reveal like was like you just yeah I definitely never
- 1:15:08thought that was going to happen.
- 1:15:11I I thought it was interesting too because it wasn't only just
- 1:15:16Youjizz character. That is keeping up a facade.
- 1:15:20Yeah, keeping secrets and whatever it turned out like his
- 1:15:24entire family was family. Quotes are quotes family, His
- 1:15:31sister was like there was a ton of people whether covering for
- 1:15:35him or not. We're keeping up a facade and
- 1:15:38keeping secrets which I thought was an interesting theme
- 1:15:41throughout this drama as a whole because there was a ton of
- 1:15:45characters doing the same thing for various reasons.
- 1:15:50But yeah I absolutely love. Kim ji hoons reveal in this and
- 1:15:54like he was Chef kiss villain in this drama like I loved him in
- 1:16:02this drama. He's a very juicy villain when
- 1:16:05he when he got going because I think it wasn't until way later
- 1:16:09that they reveal and it's the sister right?
- 1:16:12I think it's you jinkies sister that character played by Jeong
- 1:16:20huijin. So she plays do his do hey, Sue
- 1:16:23the sister. Do I assume she shows up at the
- 1:16:27Docks house and says I need all this info from you.
- 1:16:30About the volunteers at your hospital.
- 1:16:33Because I had this idea, I went under hypnosis and I remembered
- 1:16:38that there was like a green bracelet that he was wearing,
- 1:16:42whatever, and the mom is very nervous.
- 1:16:46And she's asked her very last thing that she asked her, what
- 1:16:49is it? Is there anything else that you
- 1:16:50noticed about the accomplice? And she said, well, her the
- 1:16:54fingernails on his left hand were all nubbed up because it
- 1:16:59looked like he was a nail-biter But just as left hand and they
- 1:17:03show this fucking dude in his wheelchair, in the Next Room,
- 1:17:08biting his nails, his left hand nails and then he looks at his
- 1:17:13nails and suddenly see all these flashbacks on the screen in, in
- 1:17:18those scenarios as the accomplice.
- 1:17:22Yeah. Back in the day, then you have
- 1:17:24that great reveal where he like all of a sudden gets up walking
- 1:17:29like oh my God. That was that That was so good.
- 1:17:33I think that like better reveal him like we are able to walk
- 1:17:37like which is the darkness of the house.
- 1:17:39The lightning him going around the house, like stalking these
- 1:17:43people and then you have like the digging in the backyard like
- 1:17:48digging in the backyard. As what are we?
- 1:17:50Let's do. Good this.
- 1:17:52So that's how it's really the icing on the cake to me because
- 1:18:00Because the real scene, this is episode 12.
- 1:18:04I think the Rainy Night of him, trying to bury him Sue in the
- 1:18:08front yard or backyard or something after he ran him over.
- 1:18:12The mom has just found his box of souvenirs, right?
- 1:18:16With all of these nails lined up in Perfect Rose.
- 1:18:20Yep. And he found it under his
- 1:18:22mattress. You're joking, right?
- 1:18:25Like, there's not a better place that he wouldn't like that.
- 1:18:29Exactly. There's Mattress like a Fucking
- 1:18:31porn stash. And then she walks outside
- 1:18:35carrying the murder weapon that you found in the souvenir box,
- 1:18:38sees him burying somebody in the backyard and he's just like a
- 1:18:44hey, you weren't supposed to be home, right?
- 1:18:48Like period, like no, exhale Nation.
- 1:18:51Yeah, yeah. And he's another guy that played
- 1:18:55creepy really well like just really well and again, It was a
- 1:19:01character. I had never seen Kim.
- 1:19:03Ji Hoon play. Never seen this side of his
- 1:19:06acting. Yeah.
- 1:19:07Which was awesome. Because yeah.
- 1:19:10Yeah I had issues another role that it was another role that
- 1:19:13like kind of again showed range showed a different side.
- 1:19:17Okay, so I had issues with him. First of all, him burying the
- 1:19:20body in the front, your backyard, whatever.
- 1:19:22It was, which was in a shallow grave.
- 1:19:25That's a Trope though of a crime thing.
- 1:19:27I was really like, this is the sloppiest fucking see.
- 1:19:30Serial killer, accomplice I've ever seen?
- 1:19:33And that she has, I think you're very happy here.
- 1:19:35And he's like, yeah, where else did you think I was gonna put
- 1:19:38him? And I'm like, I mean I think
- 1:19:39that was a thing of his character though.
- 1:19:41He didn't think he was ever going to get caught because one
- 1:19:45he had all those souvenirs, he had been killing people for how
- 1:19:48many years that the right. His parents have this facade of
- 1:19:52being the perfect family, perfect, whatever they were,
- 1:19:56never going to give him up for that.
- 1:19:59Like even when he End up in the coma.
- 1:20:01They got a new Sun like they were never going to reveal those
- 1:20:05secrets. So right, I think he knew that
- 1:20:08he knew that he was. He could do basically whatever
- 1:20:11he wanted, right? Because one his parents were
- 1:20:14scared of him. Yeah, absolutely terrified of
- 1:20:17him. So they weren't ever going to
- 1:20:19confront him about it or do anything, allowing themselves to
- 1:20:22be manipulated by him because he was like, oh, mama up ba like,
- 1:20:25doing the whole like, yeah, sob story.
- 1:20:28Like, you're going to protect me right?
- 1:20:29Saying, really is A lot of things to them and they're like,
- 1:20:32uh, I guess. Yeah.
- 1:20:34I think it was a combination of fear but also they didn't want
- 1:20:37to give up what they had built themselves.
- 1:20:40I think I've and I think he rode that out he didn't want to, he
- 1:20:44didn't care because he had no empathy, but knew he was never
- 1:20:49going to get caught unless something happened in terms of
- 1:20:52the lives crumbling, which obviously, it happens in this
- 1:20:55drama. But so my other issue with him
- 1:20:59is just Very nitpicky thing. Every time he was acting crazy
- 1:21:02had wonderful crazy eyes but then he would open his mouth a
- 1:21:05lot like you would just like Drop is not.
- 1:21:08Why is your mouth open? Like that was a very confusing
- 1:21:11to me. That choice just open his mouth
- 1:21:14with the crazy eyes. I was like, what is he waiting
- 1:21:17for her here, it just looked a little weird.
- 1:21:20Okay, I have a question for you because I don't know what what
- 1:21:24I'm supposed to take away here. So the crowd, the serial killer
- 1:21:29dad. Died. 20 years ago or he was
- 1:21:33killed 20 years ago. So then only three years ago the
- 1:21:39serial killer, accomplice, our boy ended up in a coma.
- 1:21:45So what happened for 17 years? Does that make sense?
- 1:21:53Yeah, I'm trying to remember if I want If I think that I think
- 1:22:01the conclusion I think he took over the killing, I think that
- 1:22:06was the conclusion. We so there's more bodies but
- 1:22:09then what why was he Why did he totally forget about the last
- 1:22:14victim min-seok? Who was alive in a some Asylum
- 1:22:19that the trafficker was paying for?
- 1:22:23Then if that was what the Catalyst was for him, running
- 1:22:26over Egyptian guy. You know, Cece, where I'm
- 1:22:32saying, like, there's a gap of 17 years here, then all of a
- 1:22:36sudden, the traffickers, like, yeah, I got this girl, this like
- 1:22:39victim that you never finished off killing, and he was gonna go
- 1:22:43pick her up from the trafficker runs.
- 1:22:45Overreaching Keys, character ends up in a coma.
- 1:22:49And then now we're dealing with the after-effects three years
- 1:22:52later, but I'm confused. Why they never went back for the
- 1:22:56victim in 17 years. Well, I mean he ended up in a
- 1:23:01coma he couldn't that was 10 but the coma was only for three
- 1:23:04years. Oh my God.
- 1:23:09No. What am I talking about?
- 1:23:10I don't think so the coma so hold on.
- 1:23:16Okay. Gonna hit him burying the body
- 1:23:19was when he hit hit the car. That was him driving back.
- 1:23:22I got you. No, no.
- 1:23:24I'm we're going to see the girl. I am totally totally wrong.
- 1:23:28Because why would the gum only lasted three years.
- 1:23:31That doesn't make any sense. That doesn't make any sense.
- 1:23:34Because hyunsoo was he song for, like, 14 years, right?
- 1:23:41So he, yeah, he was, when he hit hee.
- 1:23:43Hee Jun, Jie's, career was going to.
- 1:23:47So that's why you have the body in the trunk, right?
- 1:23:50Okay, okay, no Ray. So I got it backwards because it
- 1:23:54was 20 years ago, the dad died, the serial killer dad died.
- 1:23:58Then three years later. He's dealing with the trafficker
- 1:24:01with the last victim, right? And then they had the guy who
- 1:24:05gets run over and then he gets in a coma for the next 14 years,
- 1:24:10right? Okay.
- 1:24:11Yeah, okay, so I had a totally backwards, I don't know what.
- 1:24:13Yeah I was thinking okay sorry. So he everybody had that body in
- 1:24:17the trunk when he hit him so that was another thing.
- 1:24:21If I remember correctly, he had a body in the trunk to what I
- 1:24:25think so or maybe it was Lee Gene that he put in the trunk.
- 1:24:29No, no, the body. That was in the trunk.
- 1:24:32So I'll answer this with the body that was in the trunk.
- 1:24:36Was the housekeeper that they murdered like in the last few
- 1:24:41episodes. The mute deaf, how so?
- 1:24:46Oh yeah, cause she found out she found out.
- 1:24:48She was like, I'm gonna telling you guys if you don't pay me.
- 1:24:51For them. They killed her right?
- 1:24:53Yeah. And then they tried they framed
- 1:24:55hyunsoo for it, right? And that was like a whole nother
- 1:24:59thing in the final few episodes, right?
- 1:25:02Oh man, so much happened. Well, yeah, sorry.
- 1:25:05I don't know what I was thinking for that three years thing, so
- 1:25:09because that's why there was a cold period in those murders and
- 1:25:12then write the reason, the whole reason why his wife started
- 1:25:16investigated, the murder is, is because a new body showed up,
- 1:25:20mmm, Mmm. Okay, that makes sense, man.
- 1:25:26And I had it to I figured it out myself.
- 1:25:28Damn, okay. I like the flashback of them on
- 1:25:33their first date, like going back to the couple, which is
- 1:25:37early like an episode for. She says that everyone thinks
- 1:25:41they're already dating. And then he pretends he's like,
- 1:25:43no, I'm not interested in you and she counters with then.
- 1:25:47Why do you spend time with me on your day off and they play?
- 1:25:51Paper scissors, loser stands in the rain.
- 1:25:53She pushes him into the rain and she starts giggling and like
- 1:25:56laughing, and he finds himself smiling back for whatever
- 1:26:01reason. And I just found that very, very
- 1:26:04cute that interaction and his growing feelings for her,
- 1:26:08whether he realizes that they're growing feelings or not.
- 1:26:12I was a little bit taken aback by a lot of times he was turning
- 1:26:18around to see The Apparition of his father, with the eyes,
- 1:26:22completely black staring at him from across the street, or from
- 1:26:26wherever and I couldn't get a handle on it.
- 1:26:29I was like, is it the physical manifestation of his guilt or
- 1:26:33just a feeling that he doesn't deserve to be happy with a
- 1:26:37family history like that? Or is he just haunted by like
- 1:26:42his Killer father, who he was afraid of right.
- 1:26:47I couldn't figure it out. It ended up being that he kind
- 1:26:51of got with her because she banished the operation of his
- 1:26:56father, right? Yeah.
- 1:26:59So like what do you make of that?
- 1:27:02I think I mean I think it was a combination of everything that
- 1:27:05you did. You just described like He was
- 1:27:09never going to be able to get away from that whether the man
- 1:27:15was alive or dead, he was guilty about it, that was going to
- 1:27:18follow him for the rest of his life.
- 1:27:23And for whatever reason, muche could Give him peace.
- 1:27:30At least for a little bit from whatever that was Haunting him.
- 1:27:35And so, I think it was somewhat of a, like, actually happening
- 1:27:38to his character where he was seeing this guy, he was a little
- 1:27:43crazy, he was being haunted, whether it was a hallucination
- 1:27:48or not, but his father, but also, it was kind of a metaphor
- 1:27:51of, right his wife meeting her but also needing her in a way.
- 1:27:58You had be the anchor for a reality and be able to live at
- 1:28:03least a normal life and get away from his past and his history.
- 1:28:08I think it was kind of both. It was right his own character,
- 1:28:12but also a metaphor at the same time.
- 1:28:14Nice, I have my notes and I don't know who wrote this, but I
- 1:28:17guess it was me. She was the first person who
- 1:28:19believed in him and saw the best in him, loved him for all that
- 1:28:22he was and could be, she got rid of his dad lingering around him
- 1:28:25and allowed him to get some sort of closure, which is kind of
- 1:28:28What you said to about, finding some measure of Peace, which is
- 1:28:31really important for. I mean, anybody let alone this
- 1:28:35guy who's just been through so much.
- 1:28:41Yeah, I think there was a lot of kdrama isms that kind of irked
- 1:28:46me throughout the show like an episode 7.
- 1:28:49You have this wonderful couple and she's struggling so much
- 1:28:52with her feelings for him if she hates him, if she loves him
- 1:28:55whatever, and she takes him back to his father's metalworking
- 1:29:00shop, back in their Hometown, to try and find some of he'll
- 1:29:04ensues metalworking that was the excuse, right?
- 1:29:07And they end up back in the basement, where the murders
- 1:29:10happened, And she plays the cassette that supposedly
- 1:29:13triggers. He owns has manic episodes
- 1:29:17according to the child psychologist and he has a
- 1:29:20full-on panic attack. He's constantly having panic
- 1:29:24attacks throughout the show. Yeah.
- 1:29:27And stuff like, that was a little bit annoying to me
- 1:29:33because it just felt like this is pure like kdrama because I
- 1:29:38don't feel like that's necessarily believe.
- 1:29:41Well, for her to like go out to the middle of nowhere, no one
- 1:29:44knows where they are and she has suspicions of her husband being
- 1:29:49a murderer and still pulls herself.
- 1:29:52In this really compromising situation knowing better as a
- 1:29:56detective, and it's just like kind of all of these things just
- 1:30:01didn't match the way that her character was kind of smarter
- 1:30:05than that. I guess she was counting on her
- 1:30:09husband not being a murder, which he wasn't, but I guess not
- 1:30:13retaliating in any sort of way for putting him in a situation.
- 1:30:17That's very uncomfortable for anybody.
- 1:30:19Let alone. Let's consider that.
- 1:30:21Maybe he's just a normal guy and you take him back to the scene
- 1:30:24of his father's murderers. Like it was just so problematic
- 1:30:29to me, I don't know. I think at that point she was
- 1:30:33also so desperate to get answers though and Yeah, she was willing
- 1:30:40to do anything to trigger it. I see, I mean, to some extent,
- 1:30:46he didn't know either, so like it was both her trying to figure
- 1:30:51this out and trying to figure out if he was a killer or if he
- 1:30:56had killed anybody in the past. but also having to deal with the
- 1:31:01fact that he didn't really know, like, he didn't, he had been
- 1:31:08living this facade for so long that he kind of really kind of
- 1:31:12pushed stuff out of his Mind. And You didn't really know what
- 1:31:20he was dealing with or what. He was discovering again was
- 1:31:25real or not. So I think it was more of a
- 1:31:29yeah, it was to show kind of move the plot forward but I
- 1:31:33think it was also out of like desperation like she didn't
- 1:31:36really know what to do and couldn't really discover any
- 1:31:39more clues or anything. So this isn't way to yeah this
- 1:31:45was the way to hopefully move things forward and get some
- 1:31:48answers that They both clearly wanted.
- 1:31:52I liked the convert not conversation, but the argument
- 1:31:55that they have in episode 9, a lot better because he or she's
- 1:32:00kind of resolved out of spite to keep him as keep him in this
- 1:32:05identity, right? And she tells him finally that
- 1:32:10her feelings have changed that you know, if you started loving
- 1:32:13him for no reason that she can stop for no reason at all and
- 1:32:17that she knows her feelings. Not him, which is a particular
- 1:32:21job because he was reading her moods and wants and needs
- 1:32:25foryears, right? And she says that she hates him
- 1:32:29and he's like, why why why do you hate me if you hate me?
- 1:32:33Why are you crying as I think what he says?
- 1:32:36And she says, oh, because she can't say everything she wants
- 1:32:39to say, and she vows that she's going to leave him.
- 1:32:41They're going to, they're going to break up.
- 1:32:43It's just it's a breakup conversation and she tries to
- 1:32:47just kind of leave and say Say I'm going to work on this
- 1:32:50reopened case and he like walks into the room and he's like,
- 1:32:53we're not done here like we need, you need to, we need to
- 1:32:56talk this out and she realizes that she feels extreme empathy
- 1:33:02for the victims of the young Jew, serial killings now,
- 1:33:06because she's untethered from him and then she realizes that
- 1:33:10she could get through all of these, horrible things that
- 1:33:12she's witnessed as a detective because he made her life so
- 1:33:15wonderful at home. And she says, like it was you
- 1:33:18like, You're the reason why I could have done this job forever
- 1:33:22and I found that really profound I like these kind of more real
- 1:33:28moments because I feel like this was way more grounded to have
- 1:33:31them washing dishes and then just her kind of overcome and
- 1:33:35say, you know, I want to break up.
- 1:33:36I hate you and have all of these feelings bubble up within her
- 1:33:41and he's of course, really affected, you know, no matter
- 1:33:44what he says, like, I can't feel, I don't love her.
- 1:33:47Swearing that he doesn't love her and all this stuff.
- 1:33:49Tough but he's never loved her and that he's kind of just with
- 1:33:52her to keep a tabs on the situation and middle, it
- 1:33:55manipulate things when he needs to the reaction, to the
- 1:33:59something like this was very telling because he's like,
- 1:34:03frantic he doesn't know what to do.
- 1:34:04He doesn't want to be without her and you see that he is
- 1:34:07extremely attached to her at the very least and you just know
- 1:34:11inherently that he loves her even though he doesn't realize
- 1:34:15it. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:34:17So I like that and then, yeah, I think. that also speaks to, he
- 1:34:22was He was also at a point where like he didn't know what he
- 1:34:27would do without again, the anger and how more like, how
- 1:34:33much more he would spiral out of control if she wasn't there.
- 1:34:38So I think that was also a part of the desperation in that
- 1:34:41argument. Yeah, definitely death for
- 1:34:44desperation. Then he calls a meeting the next
- 1:34:48day would like the journalist moved in and his sister about
- 1:34:51marriage fight that he had. And Like a mu Jin is basically
- 1:34:55like he crudely says out. You should just win her back by
- 1:34:58getting her gifts and yeah, just tell her you love her and stuff
- 1:35:01and then she'll forgive you. And what he takes away is that
- 1:35:05he just needs to get her a gift that she really wants.
- 1:35:08And he goes if I bring her the accomplice she will be thrilled
- 1:35:13but he says this was like a Sinister smile on his face and
- 1:35:16everyone in the room is a little bit like though because that's
- 1:35:19not the typical gift, you give your wife when you have an
- 1:35:22argument. But he is again not necessarily
- 1:35:27looking at this the way that he should.
- 1:35:29But right, I like this response. It's so unusual for him to be
- 1:35:35like, oh, get him. Like I'll get her the serial,
- 1:35:37the real serial killer, accomplice and then we can make
- 1:35:40up, right? Yeah.
- 1:35:43Which is kind of like childish as well, like a very childish
- 1:35:46thought, you know, a to because see, whatever.
- 1:35:50But the sister at this point says, She points out how much
- 1:35:54that he cares for G1 and he agrees like, oh yeah, she's very
- 1:35:58important to me and the sisters makes a distinction here and she
- 1:36:02says, no, she's precious to you. What's important?
- 1:36:06Will eventually end up becoming less important after some time.
- 1:36:10But what's precious breaks your heart?
- 1:36:13Yeah, I was like, fuck. Like the sister always coming in
- 1:36:15with these like one-liners. Well, I think the thing to do is
- 1:36:19again, it's Like he has always had to deal with trying to read
- 1:36:26people in terms of emotion, in terms of people's reactions in
- 1:36:30terms of what is appropriate when.
- 1:36:35Yeah, dealing with society and the sister has it.
- 1:36:39The sister. I never had the deal with what
- 1:36:44he had to do with because she knew that did not have the
- 1:36:46antisocial stuff, right? And I think that's also Telling
- 1:36:53of their relationship is like they're very close granted.
- 1:36:59The wife doesn't know about the sister for a long time.
- 1:37:02Girl, Hello time. And I think.
- 1:37:12In a way, the sister is like his human connection.
- 1:37:15Hmm. To society before he met the
- 1:37:19wife, right? And so he has a very interesting
- 1:37:25relationship with her because she as you just said, she has
- 1:37:30these one-liners that Are like no, you have to realize.
- 1:37:34This is what this means or no, this is your reaction.
- 1:37:38You should have to this situation.
- 1:37:40So and so forth, type thing and I think she was the wife's role
- 1:37:45before he met the wife. Very, very good point.
- 1:37:49Yes, I agree with you real quick.
- 1:37:52Let's talk about the sister. Now that we were already talking
- 1:37:53about her because I found her grading towards the end because
- 1:38:00all she seemed to do was be the Damsel in Distress and too many
- 1:38:07situations if you get my meaning where she was just kind of like
- 1:38:11not like dead weight on the team so to speak.
- 1:38:15And she was obviously going through a long season of
- 1:38:21depression, in her life and the interactions that she kept
- 1:38:24having with the journalist mujin were so fucking annoying to me.
- 1:38:30Because he Has literally give the when he broke up with her
- 1:38:38cruelly in the past and was like, oh yeah, you give me the
- 1:38:41creeps, right? And invoked the serial killer
- 1:38:44father, and was just like the townsfolk in shutting them,
- 1:38:48right? That was a deep deep cut on her
- 1:38:51and she keeps bringing it up to him, and he's trying to get her
- 1:38:56to forget it, right? And he doesn't quite understand
- 1:39:00like what she's going through ever.
- 1:39:03And he is still insist on like cock blocking her.
- 1:39:07Every time she wants to do the right thing and say that she
- 1:39:10killed the foreman back in the day and absolve him.
- 1:39:15So of all blame because he's continually taking the blame for
- 1:39:18her for that one murder. And every time you was like oh
- 1:39:23yeah you can't you can't do this stop crying.
- 1:39:27He was just very tone deaf when it came to her trauma.
- 1:39:33And you know, when he goes over to like see her house and the
- 1:39:35way she lives, she lives in the dark, she doesn't have, she
- 1:39:38doesn't change the light bulb didn't know, it was out.
- 1:39:41She just doesn't doesn't live a life in the light and he intends
- 1:39:50to he has Good Intentions by trying to fix her life
- 1:39:54essentially. And like, change the light bulb,
- 1:39:57and bring her a new lamp, so that she's not living in
- 1:40:00darkness. And she's It's like this.
- 1:40:03These are like superficial ways to fix depression, if you get my
- 1:40:06meaning. Uh-huh.
- 1:40:09If you can even fix her depression, right?
- 1:40:13And it felt very childish for him to kind of, it's like,
- 1:40:19someone's like I have no money to buy food and he's like, okay,
- 1:40:22I'll get you like a McDonald's for one meal.
- 1:40:26It's like, okay, that's not going to fix the issue, right?
- 1:40:29In fact, did you even hear what I said, right?
- 1:40:32So, I was very unsympathetic toward his puppy.
- 1:40:37Puppy, love that, he had toward the sister and honestly,
- 1:40:41couldn't fathom how he could still love her after 20 years.
- 1:40:49That was like an issue to meet you though.
- 1:40:51Of course he's still in love with her after 20 years.
- 1:40:53It's like another kdrama ISM, right?
- 1:40:57Yeah. She was like how it's been 20
- 1:40:59years get over and I'm like yes preach girl like tell him get
- 1:41:03over it. So I feel like he was definitely
- 1:41:07at fault for so much of it and threw a lot of stones at her and
- 1:41:13like didn't acknowledge he was like I'm not going to apologize
- 1:41:15for something that I did and I was like you should you should
- 1:41:19apologize to her. yeah, I mean I think.
- 1:41:28I think she was an interesting character because she lived with
- 1:41:32guilt herself. I mean, she dealt, she lived
- 1:41:36with what she did. To her brother, like her brother
- 1:41:41taking the blame for that. Affected his life for the rest
- 1:41:46of his life and then she felt that guilt because they couldn't
- 1:41:51see each other for a very long time.
- 1:41:54She like somewhat got to live a more normal life than he did.
- 1:42:02You do to him taking the blame for it and whatever.
- 1:42:07So she already was kind of punishing herself for that.
- 1:42:11Yeah. and, I agree with you. I didn't particularly like the
- 1:42:22reporter and how he went about. Yeah, the relationship and like,
- 1:42:30whatever. But I think his role was also to
- 1:42:33show that ok enough was enough. Like, she was punishing herself
- 1:42:37for 14 years, 15 years, mmm. And I think he played well,
- 1:42:43because of the brother thought the same thing, the brother Did
- 1:42:47not think she, it was warranted that she should punish herself
- 1:42:50for 16 years. She also agreed that she
- 1:42:52shouldn't go off running and putting yourself in these
- 1:42:55situations too. So I think he was trying to
- 1:42:59support each Eugene's character's perspective.
- 1:43:06But also just trying to show that girl.
- 1:43:10You punish yourself long enough? Like it's a good thing.
- 1:43:14He's gonna come out, everything's going to change.
- 1:43:17You can't really stop it at this point.
- 1:43:20Stop blaming yourself. There's a part of the
- 1:43:25journalists min-soo that he, he doesn't want to think that she
- 1:43:30can do anything bad as bad as murdering somebody.
- 1:43:33And so, every time she brings up the murder, he was kind of like
- 1:43:35oh yeah. But it's, you know, Never like
- 1:43:37he's kind of doesn't want to deal with it.
- 1:43:40And I won't Point towards the later episodes.
- 1:43:44She's set on going in and confessing to her crime.
- 1:43:48And here, it says that he'll let only let her go.
- 1:43:51If she feels guilty for killing the form and then that's a
- 1:43:53different story. Than, of course, you can go
- 1:43:57confessed her crime and she goes guilty, why would I feel guilty?
- 1:44:02And then she starts explaining that the foreman was the one
- 1:44:04that forced the brother to have the extra It's isms every three
- 1:44:07days and inciting, The Village neighbors.
- 1:44:10And messing up her brother and the head.
- 1:44:12So that he started seeing all these phantasms of the father
- 1:44:15and believing you as a monster. And that essentially minsu
- 1:44:20knows, absolutely fucking nothing about the situation.
- 1:44:23So like, what does he has? What state is?
- 1:44:25He have nothing, he shouldn't have any say in what she does.
- 1:44:29Yeah, I think the both of them, I think both of them like, both
- 1:44:33the sister and the brother want to protect each other.
- 1:44:36Yeah. For various reasons.
- 1:44:40And yeah, I think, yeah, I agree with you.
- 1:44:44Yeah, yeah. I was very unsympathetic towards
- 1:44:48journalism into a well, I think it was just it.
- 1:44:54I think it also came down like yes, he was needed for the plot
- 1:44:59and for that relationship with you June GE and all that stuff.
- 1:45:04But could the plot have done been the same without him at the
- 1:45:09same time. I think it was his
- 1:45:11characterization and the way that he was portrayed as this
- 1:45:16lovesick kind of dude who would do anything for the sister
- 1:45:19really hated the brother and was shoehorned into being a I'd kick
- 1:45:25in this Trio trying to solve this crime, alongside the cops
- 1:45:29who were kind of running in opposite directions, sometimes
- 1:45:32both of these groups. And he didn't want to deal at
- 1:45:37all with him. So he didn't like him at all.
- 1:45:40He don't want to understand him at all.
- 1:45:42And in say, in a sense he didn't want to understand the sister
- 1:45:48either. He just wanted to put her on a
- 1:45:50pedestal and keep her like this perfect.
- 1:45:54Vision that he's had for 20 years and nothing about her now
- 1:46:00and her Persona now fit with his image of her which was a problem
- 1:46:05to me so it's like he didn't really want her.
- 1:46:09He just I mean he just hate to say this but he just like the
- 1:46:12idea of her Yeah, I'm yeah. I would say.
- 1:46:17I would agree with that. Yeah.
- 1:46:20So it's not okay. I felt like that was not okay.
- 1:46:23So if they had written him a little bit different, I mean I
- 1:46:26guess this is more interesting to talk about, but I don't like
- 1:46:30it at all. It's left a bad feeling in my
- 1:46:32mouth. Am I?
- 1:46:34Well bad taste in my mouth. Bad feeling in my heart, right?
- 1:46:38Right? Because mouths don't have
- 1:46:40feelings. Okay.
- 1:46:45The caregivers murder. They framed.
- 1:46:48Yeon-soo She goes, the wife goes to a rest kyungsoo at their
- 1:46:55house. And I didn't understand this is
- 1:46:58like, episode 13 or so, because she all of a sudden does feel
- 1:47:02like she needs to bring him in. Why?
- 1:47:04Why is she now trusting all of the all of their detective work
- 1:47:08will clear his name. It didn't make sense when she
- 1:47:12was really avoiding him going to confess his identity going to
- 1:47:16confess, any sort of crime going in for questioning.
- 1:47:20She was like avoiding this at all costs and now she's like you
- 1:47:22got to come in and handcuffs him and he has this horrible
- 1:47:25flashback of his father saying love is a very Sly feeling.
- 1:47:30It's really cunning. It gives you an illusion that it
- 1:47:32can solve everything. Then leaves an acute sense of
- 1:47:35betrayal. In the end in time, if you feel
- 1:47:37the urge to trust someone that means you're becoming weak and
- 1:47:41he goes Fucking off the rails. Like he that's when he holds a
- 1:47:45knife to her throat and it says whole thing.
- 1:47:50He I think this was important that he asked her.
- 1:47:53Do you even believe me that I didn't do this murder that.
- 1:47:56I'm not this murderer and she's just like what and never says,
- 1:48:01no. I don't think that you did all
- 1:48:03this. I totally believe you.
- 1:48:04I'm on your side and that's when he like, really just loses it.
- 1:48:09And he's like, I'm never going to trust anyone again and puts a
- 1:48:12knife to her throat and it becomes this weird hostage
- 1:48:16situation where she like wants to go with him and they end up
- 1:48:19at this hotel. Room to, like, call the
- 1:48:21trafficker and all this shit goes down.
- 1:48:24I wanted a little more that he stuck to his guns and was truly
- 1:48:28against her at that point, but that wasn't the case at all.
- 1:48:31Is just kind of for show for the cameras and for the cops to
- 1:48:34believe that, you know, she was actually taken and all that
- 1:48:39shit. I wanted a little more steaks
- 1:48:42because it was just fleeting. I had a question though because
- 1:48:46they were in a hotel room, they left with nothing but the
- 1:48:48clothes on their back from the house and they were handcuffed
- 1:48:50to each other. So how the hell did they get a
- 1:48:53laptop in there to record and take notes on the interaction?
- 1:48:59They had with the trafficker on the phone?
- 1:49:03I was very confused while is this, is that you're talking
- 1:49:07about the sister in him or you're talking about the wife
- 1:49:10and him, know, the wife in him end up at a hotel and she cooks
- 1:49:15they're handcuffed together by this time, right?
- 1:49:18Right, right. Right, right.
- 1:49:19And they call the trafficker to try set up a deal.
- 1:49:22And where do they get the this? There's like suddenly they have
- 1:49:26a laptop. Go, I'm genuinely confused.
- 1:49:34I don't remember. Okay, it's okay, it's okay.
- 1:49:39Episode 15. We're getting to the end yunsung
- 1:49:42I think is his name? The real villain?
- 1:49:46Yeah, he song. Sorry, he sung ends up back at
- 1:49:49the basement layer and he sniffs the air.
- 1:49:53Do you remember this? He sniffs the air and he's like,
- 1:49:57like he smells something good. And it's just dead body smell
- 1:50:02like old blood stench in the basement and everyone's
- 1:50:07commenting on. Oh it smells like heavily of
- 1:50:09blood in here and it's really disgusting.
- 1:50:11He smells it and he's like, oh yeah, good shit.
- 1:50:17It's disgusting. It's awful.
- 1:50:22But the point where he tells them, he killed his wife, I
- 1:50:26think it's another pivotal moment cuz you know, he's
- 1:50:28desperate, he calls the police station to confirm this whole
- 1:50:32scene of him freaking out because he thinks that the
- 1:50:37serial accomplice, serial killer accomplice and killed his wife
- 1:50:41kill jiwon was very Romeo and Juliet because the, I mean, it
- 1:50:47was like a miscommunication. Obviously, she's not dead.
- 1:50:51It's just a ruse and it was Even had like a I defy you Stars
- 1:50:58moment when he's crying and double over like he just
- 1:51:03resolves to to kill him to kill. The the guy, our boys to kill to
- 1:51:11kill Kenji. Thank you, King, like Dad that
- 1:51:14epic fight in the, in the basement.
- 1:51:17Yeah, they had to fight in the basement, then he gets out and
- 1:51:20starts chasing him through the woods, right?
- 1:51:22With a knife and slicing him up whenever he sees him, right?
- 1:51:28And one thing that I thought was weird was given June's character
- 1:51:31was like, you crazy psycho. And I'm like, what?
- 1:51:38That's like the pot calling the kettle black like it.
- 1:51:40Right. But I mean, in all reality
- 1:51:43kimchi, who never thought he was a psycho, he enjoyed ever
- 1:51:46thought he was like, never He? He enjoy like he just did not
- 1:51:53real like he thought he was Untouchable.
- 1:51:56Mmm. Yeah.
- 1:51:58And so the fact that you June GE is fighting back is chasing him,
- 1:52:03is hurting him, is like not really having the upper hand but
- 1:52:09like Potentially having the upper hand that never occurred
- 1:52:14to ever happen to him, like he never thought that would happen.
- 1:52:22I, Somewhere in between that he was like I'm gonna win no matter
- 1:52:27what even if you become a killer just like your dad and even if
- 1:52:30you leave me to enter the system and spend the rest of my life in
- 1:52:35prison. Like, I win somewhere inside
- 1:52:38that and the Caged last victim min-suk actually begging.
- 1:52:44Our boy EG not to kill the serial killer, right?
- 1:52:48To telling the OG serial killer to run.
- 1:52:52Because he's gonna get slaughtered by this, very upset
- 1:52:57husband, right? Like somewhere inside there I
- 1:53:00was like this is weird. What the victim is telling the
- 1:53:07guy to like the person that was a going to kill her.
- 1:53:12Yeah, I think it comes down to the fact that they didn't want
- 1:53:15you g to turn into the person, everybody thought it was going
- 1:53:17to be right. I think they just it just he had
- 1:53:23fought for so long 15 years or so.
- 1:53:28To not be the kid, the village thought he was going to become
- 1:53:33and not become his father and not become everything.
- 1:53:36People were saying he was going to, so to be in a moment where
- 1:53:40he potentially could do that and could kill somebody and could
- 1:53:45make what those predictions come to fruition.
- 1:53:51Kim do Jin did not want to see that in front of him, like did
- 1:53:54not want to see that happened and I mean, I think he could
- 1:53:57tell that Young Soo was like breaking like he was desperate
- 1:54:04and whether and in that moment that was the only way out for
- 1:54:07him. Like he potentially had to kill
- 1:54:12this person who was a trying to kill mujin, which he obviously
- 1:54:17didn't want to happen, but also potentially trying to kill him.
- 1:54:20And I mean, I think I remember him threatening to go after his
- 1:54:23daughter and his wife to like, Well, in that moment, when he's
- 1:54:28like, oh yeah, gloat. Being that he killed his wife,
- 1:54:30right? He says I left your daughter
- 1:54:32alone. I wouldn't I wouldn't stoop that
- 1:54:34low. And I was like, well, hold on
- 1:54:37your, your levels of stooping or way skewed because write to me.
- 1:54:43You've stooped. As low as you can go homie.
- 1:54:46Yeah. So I think, I think him hearing
- 1:54:48that, his wife is dead, broke it because oh yeah, absolutely was
- 1:54:52so desperate for the 13/14 episodes to not have that
- 1:54:56happen. Yeah, and have her leave.
- 1:54:59And have her discover the secret.
- 1:55:01So That desperation of potentially.
- 1:55:07He essentially thought he killed his wife, he thought he was
- 1:55:10like, it was my fault. It's my, it's my doing that.
- 1:55:15She is now dead because I've lived this facade for 15 years
- 1:55:20and hit all these secrets and this guy, I took this guy's
- 1:55:25identity and now he was on the Revenge path to get back at me
- 1:55:28and kill everything. I love and now that she's dead.
- 1:55:31He won. So I have nothing to lose.
- 1:55:34Mmm. Granted, he has the daughter but
- 1:55:36like he wasn't. Thinking like that, like his
- 1:55:39anchor died. So he had nothing.
- 1:55:45To keep him sane anymore and I think Moon jae-in also knew that
- 1:55:50too. Like he knew oh God, she's dead.
- 1:55:55That is not good because he has nothing keeping him sane
- 1:55:59anymore, right? Do you mean min-seok the the
- 1:56:03victim that was in the cage? Yeah, then it's okay.
- 1:56:06Sorry. I'd like, I don't know why.
- 1:56:08I keep saying mooji mooji in is the journalists on.
- 1:56:11Yeah, them. I don't know why I keep saying
- 1:56:13the journalist. Okay.
- 1:56:15Yeah, in my notes I have we have here a descent into madness with
- 1:56:20him hunting, the accomplice, The Unsung, all through the woods.
- 1:56:24He sees his father They're walking ahead and follows his
- 1:56:26path which is very on the nose. Like I don't know.
- 1:56:32There's like a Nuance went out the door for the last couple of
- 1:56:36episodes like I don't know, it just was too easy.
- 1:56:44Yeah, I think well, I think that was one is like one.
- 1:56:48I mean, obviously the writers knew they were going to do the
- 1:56:50Amnesia thing in episode 16. So there was only so much.
- 1:56:54As they add, we didn't know at the time but there was a
- 1:56:58timeline. They need to meet in order for
- 1:57:01all of that to happen. I think it also showed the
- 1:57:06descent into madness that you Jun.
- 1:57:09Jie's character was doing and slipping and having I mean
- 1:57:16granted we saw that timeline throughout the entire drama but
- 1:57:19the closer you got to the end, the more of that was being
- 1:57:22revealed crumbling away. Hallucinations were getting
- 1:57:26worse and worse, that type of stuff.
- 1:57:29Mmm. So I think it seemed rushed
- 1:57:33because I think Li Jie's character was sort of being
- 1:57:39bombarded at the same. I like that.
- 1:57:42Okay, I'm going to go with that and kind of get a little bit of
- 1:57:46slack, but I was, I'm still a little bit like, I understand, I
- 1:57:49understand. Yeah, I do think that.
- 1:57:52I've come to the end of my nose. Oats.
- 1:57:54I have the closing quote from Who do I have?
- 1:58:01Who is this? I think it's a sister.
- 1:58:02So, the sisters in jail. Do you want?
- 1:58:04The wife goes to see her. And the sister says, since I met
- 1:58:08you, I've come to believe one thing.
- 1:58:11The pain were experiencing right now is just a step.
- 1:58:14We need to go through to accept, more things later on in life,
- 1:58:17but I still hope you feel less pain and I was like, that's very
- 1:58:23just like, she's like the guru of this show despite having her
- 1:58:28own issues He seems to have a good grasp on life.
- 1:58:32And this final quote was really nice, I feel ya to kind of wrap
- 1:58:37up everything that, you know, the pain now is just a step in
- 1:58:42the direct, the positive direction that later.
- 1:58:44It's not going to matter and you know, I hope you feel less pain.
- 1:58:50I think you. Yeah, I think she was talking
- 1:58:52like yes, it was said towards the sister which was very well,
- 1:58:57was the sister that said it to her.
- 1:58:59The wire G1. Yes, I think I think the sister
- 1:59:02said it to the wife. Which at the moment the wife
- 1:59:07needed to hear. Hmm.
- 1:59:09I think at the same time it was that quote Was a Common Thread
- 1:59:15that a lot of characters needed to hear throughout this drama,
- 1:59:18including herself including herself.
- 1:59:21So she probably was talking to herself at some point as well by
- 1:59:25say agree. Yeah.
- 1:59:27I agree. Alright.
- 1:59:29Do you have also want to talk? Okay, I do want to say so one of
- 1:59:35the best scenes that I loved was the whole pool scene.
- 1:59:39Did you like that? Pull, say I love the pink.
- 1:59:45Yeah. We come full circle with that
- 1:59:47one because I think that's the intro scene.
- 1:59:49Yeah that was pretty. It was pretty much like I think
- 1:59:54it was episode 45. Yeah it happened when it
- 1:59:59actually happened within the timeline of the show, right?
- 2:00:04Was I think yeah like episode 7 or something.
- 2:00:10No for early. I see it was early.
- 2:00:14It was early. Yeah for yeah I love that song.
- 2:00:19I liked I liked one I always I was like man he's doing like I
- 2:00:25don't know how I mean obviously it's not like he was under the
- 2:00:28water for the entire scene like they're obviously going to be
- 2:00:30like shooting but like just be the way they shot it.
- 2:00:34He was doing his own little stunt thing in the Are the wife
- 2:00:38going in the to save him? The desperate attempt to revive
- 2:00:42him like that type of thing. I love that whole action scene
- 2:00:46with both her and the husband. But also with the, the cops that
- 2:00:49came with her and the fighting that happened was, yeah, there's
- 2:00:52like fighting one guy gets shanked.
- 2:00:54Yeah, Taxi Driver dies because he's the one that kidnapped him.
- 2:00:59There's a lot of extraneous characters that are somehow
- 2:01:03related to the cases and the victims and the taxi driver was
- 2:01:07like one of them. I really like the pool scene.
- 2:01:11I thought it would happen later in the show because of course
- 2:01:13you have this intro scene in your kind of waiting for this
- 2:01:16Almighty pool scene to happen. Happens super early in the show
- 2:01:20right at the end of episode 4 and that's his first brush with
- 2:01:26deaf and right I mean he survives he was also in a coma
- 2:01:30after that one. Yeah.
- 2:01:31To I think I think what was I think?
- 2:01:35What I liked about that scene so much to It was like our my first
- 2:01:41real. Clue on how crazy this show
- 2:01:49could get and would get because I think it happened so early on.
- 2:01:54Because like the back end of this drama is just absolutely
- 2:01:57nuts and Bonkers and like, secret re being revealed after
- 2:02:02secret and like, all these stuff you have a guy that was in a
- 2:02:05coma for 17 years getting up and walking.
- 2:02:09Yeah, you know, regular stuff and I think that's why I like I
- 2:02:13like the scene so much because it was a really early.
- 2:02:18Like, it was entertaining, it was a crazy Scene.
- 2:02:20It was kind of a clue of how crazy this show could get.
- 2:02:24And would ginn's it was, it was awesome.
- 2:02:30Well that and also when you were speaking earlier of like they
- 2:02:33had tropes but it like turned the Trope on the head, it wasn't
- 2:02:37the wife and the water. It wasn't like it was.
- 2:02:41Another wife cop being saved or a puppy dog copying shanked or
- 2:02:46whatever it was. The older gentleman being
- 2:02:49shanked, while the puppy dog cop was coming in and trying to save
- 2:02:53him. Like I love the reversal of
- 2:02:54roles and that as well at you and the puppy dog.
- 2:02:58Cop kills, the serial killer Acropolis at the end of the show
- 2:03:01as well. He's the one that shoots him
- 2:03:02dead. Yeah, that the seasoned
- 2:03:05experienced hard-headed, right? Instinct driven, cop, who was
- 2:03:10actually that dude was in Vincenzo's.
- 2:03:13Well, hmm. One thing I do say at the end,
- 2:03:16And where the where Kim ji hoons character like gets the gun off
- 2:03:21the cop and like shoes, I'd that was one scene where I was like
- 2:03:24come on really? Yeah.
- 2:03:27Like this was the worst that I could take down that they could
- 2:03:32have died. Then we sent likely.
- 2:03:34I did think they would fall off the cliff.
- 2:03:37I found they were I thought they were going to go that direction
- 2:03:39for a while. I thought that once the cops
- 2:03:41showed up and there was all of this tension, what was going to
- 2:03:44break the tension, was the serial killer?
- 2:03:46Accomplice throwing him off the cliff, right?
- 2:03:50Or going his heap of them over. Yeah, true.
- 2:03:53That's what I thought was going to happen.
- 2:03:54Yeah, I thought bully. That's what I thought.
- 2:03:56That's what I thought. Okay.
- 2:03:57So, we both have the same insect never happened.
- 2:04:00Yeah. Someone gets shot.
- 2:04:02Yeah, I did not think I did not think.
- 2:04:06That I mean I knew something was going to happen.
- 2:04:09That scene. I did not predict how it played
- 2:04:11out but because again, that was episode 14, like, add two more
- 2:04:16episode, 14, 15. I was like, there's too much of
- 2:04:19this story. There's something else I has to
- 2:04:20happen with this. So I mean I knew that wasn't
- 2:04:24gonna be the end or anything like that.
- 2:04:26But have some serious qualms with the pacing of the last
- 2:04:28three episodes. Yeah.
- 2:04:31Yeah. You're like yeah, but still you
- 2:04:34would recommend this show Oh absolutely.
- 2:04:37It was a fun ride. It like definitely definitely
- 2:04:41would recommend the show. Got you God.
- 2:04:44Yeah. Bear I think I would recommend
- 2:04:46it to. I think it's it's kind of old
- 2:04:49school in the way that it's set up.
- 2:04:51But then you have, you know, a lot of role reversals and in a
- 2:04:55lot of the same tropes and it's fun and wild and kind of deep on
- 2:05:01certain levels. The relationships really
- 2:05:03something to behold and Acting is really good.
- 2:05:08I don't know. I don't know if I would ever
- 2:05:10watch this again. Truly, I would, I probably
- 2:05:13would? Yeah.
- 2:05:15Yeah, because it but this is your genre as well.
- 2:05:18I don't think that's necessarily my.
- 2:05:20I mean, it also is very telling when multiple countries are
- 2:05:23planning on remaking it to, that's true as well.
- 2:05:26What was the most recent one that said they were going to
- 2:05:28remake It? Well, India said it, India.
- 2:05:33India definitely did it. And I think Phil, Pins just
- 2:05:36announced to I want to say or they already.
- 2:05:40Did it something like that? Oh my God I know at least two
- 2:05:43countries said they were redoing.
- 2:05:44It would not be surprised if America so that's okay.
- 2:05:48So we had to come back together to review flowers of evil
- 2:05:52Philippines addition its release.
- 2:05:58Oh man. Okay okay Caitlin.

- 2:06:08hours. I think we had said enough.
- 2:06:10I could go on about it though. You could.

- 2:06:17don't know. But like talk to us on social
- 2:06:20media. I think we can continue this
- 2:06:22conversation on, like, on a one-on-one for a lot of people
- 2:06:24who have more to say or want to talk to Kaitlyn, but whatever
- 2:06:29else she has to talk about flowery.
- 2:06:31I'm just so entertained. By the fact they have more to
- 2:06:33say possibly. Yeah.
