- 0:00Hello and welcome to another episode of the Christian Reef
- 0:03podcast. Today's guest is the lead,
- 0:05singer of the indie, rock band, The Trusted, his name is Tom
- 0:08Cunningham, welcome to the show. Tom a, did you go and then
- 0:11you're right? Very good, very good.
- 0:14I'm very excited to have you on the show.
- 0:15I've been following you guys for quite some time on Tick Tock,
- 0:19and we'll get to that in a little bit.
- 0:20But firstly, I just kind of want to delve straight into how you
- 0:26first got into music because I think that what you guys are
- 0:29doing Is pretty interesting as far as who your influences are.
- 0:33There's a few other people even people have had on the show
- 0:36before who were kind of inspired by that early 2000s Vibe.
- 0:40But it's not something that you see a lot and I don't know, I
- 0:43kind of feel like you're onto something with here but what's
- 0:47your kind of like musical Journey?
- 0:48How did you kind of get into this initially?
- 0:50So for me personally it's been like a, like a lifelong thing.
- 0:55I come from quite a musical family, my parents.
- 1:00Parents can't play any instruments, but that they're
- 1:02like, especially my dad is a big music nerd.
- 1:07And so growing up, I was kind of injected with lots of different
- 1:11things. And so for me, like I've been
- 1:14surrounded by my entire life and that the big point for the ice
- 1:17to perform on a little kicks. I was when I was up to three
- 1:20years old, I was obsessed with the movie.
- 1:22The Blues Brothers movie was upset, I love that film.
- 1:25Nice, dress up as blue drivers and performing a front room.
- 1:28It was like my thing. Mmmmm.
- 1:30And then when I was seven I was I was taken CEO.
- 1:34Peter Gabriel, oh, which you know, who.
- 1:38And I remember toss-up second row.
- 1:41And I'm, but I was about 7 years old and I'm coming at that
- 1:44keeping going. That's why I wanted only do
- 1:46that, and that was it. And so, I would and I was.
- 1:49Yeah. And like I said, I get, I
- 1:50couldn't sing at all. Still can't sing but you know,
- 1:53but getting it and then I got some singing lessons and kind of
- 1:57started working away in that way, really.
- 1:59And I've been doing Skipper, since Keegan in playing and I go
- 2:02to my first fan when I was about 12 school.
- 2:06Hmm. And if you've been in bands ever
- 2:08since then they've been in the, The Trusted the band that I'm
- 2:11in. At the moment us we formed in
- 2:152016. So us force in 2016.
- 2:19So, yes, I've been surrounded by music my entire life and you
- 2:24know, I was exposed to David Bowie, very early on and who
- 2:27very early on. And so it kind of goes all the
- 2:31way back with me. And yes it's just my entire
- 2:34life. I've been surrounded by great
- 2:37noises so so so it's quite interesting to me.
- 2:46Where are The Trusted is at the moment because by all intents
- 2:49and purposes and don't take this the wrong way.
- 2:51When I first saw you guys start popping up on Tick Tock and
- 2:54stuff. I thought, okay, this spans just
- 2:57come together like it's just that, yes, new thing, it's this
- 3:01shows. You should never assume things,
- 3:05but I kind of looked at it and I said Okay cool.
- 3:07So that this these guys are come together.
- 3:08The trying to do something new. But if you've been gigging since
- 3:102016 then and writing music, are you kind of like Hold it back on
- 3:16because I know you've got a record out now.
- 3:18So is it full length for an extended play?
- 3:20Just got we've got a few EVPs out from the very least, three
- 3:24p's if not would not release an album as of yet, okay.
- 3:28So are you holding out then to get like a deal or you looking
- 3:31to do it independently? We honest answers.
- 3:34We don't know. I think what we kind of form
- 3:38like like 2016 And we did about two years of constant Gideon and
- 3:44just being really some singles then and it's for us in this day
- 3:48and age, like singles and EPs, and shorter forms of content,
- 3:52more effective and we feel like, we'd only reason our, we felt
- 3:57the circumstances were, right? Whether that's independently or
- 4:00not, it's all down to where we are, where we are in terms of
- 4:07what people want up. If you want, we want to make
- 4:08medicine have and we're ready to make a statement of that.
- 4:11Is that we can, but we're not really do that just yet, but
- 4:15that no, yeah, I could change tomorrow that could change in 10
- 4:18years, you know, it's one of those things, you know, he is a
- 4:21very interesting point because I'm seeing a lot of major
- 4:24artists doing the same thing. Like, I mean, sometimes
- 4:28frustrating these so luck, I'll see someone like, I don't know,
- 4:31I'm a big fan of Mac DeMarco for example, and he just, he'll just
- 4:35throw random stuff out not doing anything and I'm, like, come on
- 4:38man. But, you know, you desperately
- 4:41Want them to and that that's good.
- 4:42It speaks a lot to having like a fandom and stuff but sometimes
- 4:45sometimes I wonder if you know gone are the days of fully full
- 4:50album because obviously when we were growing up you know it was
- 4:52quite a common thing like your album was essentially telling
- 4:57the story. You know.
- 4:59I think back to for example just off the top of my head you may
- 5:02recall Red Hot Chili Peppers, released a double album in
- 5:07nothing like 2005 or something. For those who don't know, like
- 5:13it had songs on it like Dani California and a few others but
- 5:17like that was a whole thing that you'd you'd get in one go you
- 5:24know which which sounds insane like twenty four songs.
- 5:27All-in-one like it's unheard of like when you compare it to now
- 5:31where you'd be lucky to even get you, no force on one extreme or
- 5:37the other. That some people they release
- 5:39really small things that singles are UPS or like stupidly long
- 5:43albums, like real flowers, look at like the 1975 release an
- 5:47album about two years ago. Now the last hour, it was like
- 5:5022 tracks long and then a big Thief is putting our map.
- 5:53That's up 20 tracks long and trade point out loud.
- 5:56That was like you know I think things over 18 tracks or
- 6:00something like that but I think like to see either that or small
- 6:06you're not getting me like, you know, stand like Tim's on ours
- 6:09as much anymore. Don't think I think it's evil.
- 6:11Singles, or just like that gigantic law during size albums.
- 6:16Do you sort of think you're still?
- 6:20Creating your site. Like I know that might sound
- 6:21like a really obvious question but like what?
- 6:24As soon as I listen to a few of your songs, for some reason,
- 6:28straight away. What I heard was Muse like I
- 6:31don't know why maybe it's the Baseline that could be that and
- 6:35also just as I sort of mentioned earlier like that early 2000s
- 6:39kind of vibe where for those who don't know something I would say
- 6:43early. So from 2002 to about 2005,
- 6:47there were just maybe like the Kind of Revival of UK rock.
- 6:53Yeah. And then it after that kind of
- 6:54dissipated and, you know yeah, we'll just kind of hoping for a
- 6:58rock come back, but that was kind of like the last hurrah but
- 7:02for a lot of rock bands at least in the UK.
- 7:05So are you trying to kind of do like a, like a Revival with that
- 7:09or you just trying to experiment like, what what's the missions?
- 7:13It's a strange one because we kind of won't first point.
- 7:16The new sink our lead guitarist is like the world's biggest As
- 7:19for, who's like, you know, that kind of seeps in, I think, in
- 7:28terms of Lifestyle, we're kind of, I don't know, we're kind of,
- 7:32we're so close to the band. It will all four of us have got
- 7:35a headset of in the ground with it.
- 7:37And I think like, we don't quite know what we're doing.
- 7:39We're kind of just like making the music that we want to hear
- 7:43ourselves. We know we've got hundreds of
- 7:46demos and we've got songs that kind of really Span the salt was
- 7:51on ra and we kind of all over the place and I think it is then
- 7:55as well. You find a lot more bands and
- 7:57artists are kind of doing this kind of maximalist approach to
- 8:00music with a kind of releasing EPS albums where the Styles
- 8:04change within the album and it was when each song.
- 8:09So that's quite interesting way to go and I think that's kind of
- 8:11influence a lot from salt pepper.
- 8:12What hip-hop dance was hit pop especially modern hip hop is
- 8:16kind of very much. It's even though Oh, it's hip
- 8:20hop. It's kind of genre snake.
- 8:21It takes bits from like rock, bits from Jazz bits of, you
- 8:25know, bits of like Funk and reggae and kind of mix it
- 8:28together. You know, if you feel a sample
- 8:30in order to thrive instruments and I think I'm noticing some
- 8:34rock and pop acts kind of taking a leaf out that book doing the
- 8:37same thing. So for us and we redo
- 8:39everything, you know, and I think what Spotify is done and
- 8:42streaming has allowed us to do is give us access to like, every
- 8:46song I love the song, but I think it's it's and it means
- 8:51that, you know, it's we get bombarded.
- 8:53All these different sounds and styles of the time.
- 8:54And I think that really has enough has had an effect on how
- 8:57we met music. So it's like, you know, even
- 9:00though it says Rockets should be at the core, it is rock music,
- 9:04it's indie rock music by thing. Like, it's still quite, you
- 9:07know, flimsy and it's kind of built over the place of chaotic.
- 9:10And I think that's that kind of like the new rock and roll was
- 9:12kind of like music. That's kind of, because it
- 9:14really got home. And that's kind of what we're
- 9:16doing. We were just kind of just Making
- 9:18whatever comes into our head and whether that, you know, and I
- 9:21still ask it. Still my voice is still at the
- 9:22still with the same sort of like, characteristics, but it's
- 9:27not like completely glued in one place.
- 9:31That's kind of what we want to do.
- 9:33Really, so you mentioned earlier, you had to kind of like
- 9:35two solid years gigging sort of from 2016 to about 2018.
- 9:40Yeah, own words. So then I guess you took a
- 9:43little bit of a break there and then obviously pandemic here.
- 9:46Now things are sort of In to return to normal.
- 9:49So where are you guys at, with regards to that?
- 9:53Like, and we'll get, we'll get to tick tock in a second, but I
- 9:56just kind of want to know What the plan is kind of you guys as
- 10:01of right now, because I've seen that you've got these touring
- 10:04dates in the UK, you know, you're being active cross all
- 10:08fronts, but where are yours or heads up right now with regards
- 10:12to everything? I mean, I guess it's like it's
- 10:16like the more you look at the plan, the more complex it gets.
- 10:20If you look at the core of the plan, the plan is just left it
- 10:23as reached many people as we can and kind of bring people on
- 10:26board with what we do. And obviously like obviously
- 10:31when covid here we were, we were born alive.
- 10:35Been before we went to studio recording and then we played
- 10:37live tons first. And I still think to this day,
- 10:40we are alive band. That is where we live.
- 10:42We live on stage and I think with the best when we're live.
- 10:45And so it was we're in the pandemic here that was taken
- 10:50away from us by its kind of adapt, but I think like now
- 10:53where come out come out the pepper currently a very end.
- 10:56I think the plant moments to get back out there you know back on
- 11:00the road back pain gives again and just keep building really
- 11:03you know for us it's like I think this day and age is about
- 11:06building building a building slowly building other time you
- 11:09know we have this kind of weird thing about in our heads about
- 11:12how to make it. It's pretty down to like
- 11:15watching the films and documentaries where like you
- 11:17know this guy's and the Barney's paying one song then suddenly
- 11:20like an A&R man walks in and goes and then you know it's like
- 11:25oh look we're Fucking the main stage at Wembley, you know, but
- 11:30I think like, and everyone gets kind of sold that idea of how it
- 11:37works. But I think you start to realize
- 11:40the best way to do is to build slowly and just find new ways of
- 11:46getting music out there. Now, getting music out there is
- 11:48hard enough as it is such a noise.
- 11:49So you've got to kind of use every tool at your, at your
- 11:52disposal, to kind of push things forward.
- 11:54And so like, we used to To lie was our main thing.
- 11:57Now we've got all these other things out of supposed as well.
- 12:01So for us just the plan is just to build, build, build, build,
- 12:04and Reach people. And we'll how do we do that?
- 12:08We'll do that. You know it's just about
- 12:10building. This will be honest, this leads
- 12:13us quite nicely into a Segway with regards to tick, tock I
- 12:19mean that's probably a mass. I mean I've been really
- 12:22impressed I must say with was how you guys have used.
- 12:26I have a couple of questions regards to this, but firstly I
- 12:30guess what I want to know is Overall, would you say it's been
- 12:35kind of a good resource for you and in general for musicians
- 12:40because a lot of the musicians I've had on the show have kind
- 12:44of mixed opinions on this. I have mixed opinions to.
- 12:47I mean, for example, on the negative side, some people say
- 12:49like they don't want to kind of be like a tick tock band per se,
- 12:55but then other people just see it.
- 12:56As hey, you know what, you get your face out there, you get
- 12:59your music out there, it gets recognized.
- 13:02And of course, as We Know, Songs that go viral tend to be used on
- 13:08apps like tectonic that tends to be how they even sometimes
- 13:11really really old songs are there was there was one song
- 13:13from like the early 2000s that suddenly picked up a bunch of
- 13:17traction. I think it's like some American
- 13:19band on. Yes, lots of sort of old, so
- 13:22yeah. But for you, I mean, what we all
- 13:27your kind of thoughts on ticked up for musicians, so, One of my
- 13:33good friends, he's not a musician.
- 13:35Was it was an early adopter of tip not making Tick-Tock just
- 13:38reviewing tick-tocks and I remember not seeing any thirst
- 13:41Tick-Tock right back and that's what 2019 when it's just
- 13:44starting to kind of, you know, pick up and I was bit like what
- 13:48is this? And then I think if an in sort
- 13:52of like early 2020, our still thinking, like this is not
- 13:55really suitable for what we're doing is kind of kids that if
- 13:58you like an app for like he was either dance or like, you know,
- 14:01kids to like reacting And a dog. Well, I start to notice more and
- 14:08more bands using it and our drummer was like, yo, you got,
- 14:12we gotta get on ticked off and I was like, I'm not doing it.
- 14:14I'm not going Tick-Tock like I'm not, I'm not a comedian, I'm not
- 14:17a dancer, you know, that's just what I'm gonna do and in the end
- 14:22they got to the point where it's like is unavoidable and then I
- 14:25got on there and I for us it's been brilliant.
- 14:29Like it's like we've found so many new fans.
- 14:32Through Tick-Tock and our listens on all the streaming
- 14:35platforms of like God, you know, be boosted massively and its
- 14:40really reached a lot people. And the way I rationalize it to
- 14:45talk is so if you pretend that sort of like pop music stars, if
- 14:50the Beatles and it will be sort of 50s and 60s, right?
- 14:53So we've had like a good like 60 70 years off like you know,
- 14:57modern day pop music. Everyone knows how bands were
- 15:02I'll sing the whole like, you know cool Posey.
- 15:04I want to be mysterious and course we've all seen that so
- 15:08you can't for people anymore. People know how it works.
- 15:10People know that the Missed The Mystery Band thing isn't working
- 15:13more. Seen it done it.
- 15:14It's just again to me the new way that to be authentic is just
- 15:19to be completely honest and completely like take the makeup
- 15:23off and all this stuff with you on Tick-Tock.
- 15:26It's but first of all, it's all ironic all in there.
- 15:28With everything that we make is completely ironic is all built
- 15:31on a sense of Flight irony with not Not only was taking the
- 15:35Mickey out of being a musician but also taking care of
- 15:38ourselves and the whole thing. And I think like all and all the
- 15:42jokes you make of jokes that we make as a band between each
- 15:45other. So we just do what we do in a
- 15:47rehearsal room but on a bigger scale like in front of more
- 15:51people. And so that's how I
- 15:53rationalized. I'm like, I'm just being ironic
- 15:55and and just showing everyone that what we are and I think
- 16:00it's a great tool. I think it's brilliant.
- 16:01I think. I loved it talking and I've got
- 16:04my crops with it. Like I think, you know,
- 16:06sometimes the reach and get wild Westy enzymes the reach.
- 16:10But sometimes, you know, you spend hours making something,
- 16:13you seem like three people ever times.
- 16:15You spend like, eight seconds of the video and get seen by like a
- 16:17trillion people, but when it works it's fantastic.
- 16:22And it's it evens. The playing field because you
- 16:24got like bands that and Radiohead on there and you to on
- 16:26there and they're getting the same engagement as we are.
- 16:29In terms of like you know, not me.
- 16:30Look at that. They get like you know, 3,000
- 16:32Views on this video, we're going 3,000 videos using this video
- 16:35and getting the same amount of likes and comments like even the
- 16:37playing field because Tip-Top doesn't care who you are.
- 16:40I only cares about the content you're making.
- 16:42Hmm and for us, but for and I've just going to, you know, a
- 16:47useful tool to kind of like on we just use Tick-Tock as a talk.
- 16:51It's at all to get our music out there.
- 16:53That's all it is for us, which not, we don't be ticked up,
- 16:56whatever. It's just another way to push
- 17:00the songs because you know people, you know, I could do
- 17:01every video. Poor trusted.
- 17:03So underneath it and do video and if like you know 3,000
- 17:07people with you it and 10 people go, that's good song, that's
- 17:10ten, new people who listen to our song.
- 17:12If you do that every single day it just thrust just it's just
- 17:16it's been great. It's been great.
- 17:17It actually thrust it's worth, it's working.
- 17:22Yeah, I must say I've been really really impressed with how
- 17:25you guys have used. Yeah.
- 17:28I mean, I think it's one of the reasons why I fell in love with
- 17:31what you were doing the comedy, you know, like I've been in
- 17:33bands over the years and a bit of musician, all my life so I
- 17:37can relate to all of that stuff. And I just, I'm just in stitches
- 17:39though time, like it's all just like, especially the videos
- 17:42about, you know, crowd interaction and How likely there
- 17:46was one. I was just looking for a came on
- 17:48and I was just like, yeah, the singer does do that and I think
- 17:52I did that a few times cringe every single thing we all do.
- 17:58We just don't talk about it. It's what you get the funniest
- 18:02bit is is like it because it's funny like how these things are
- 18:06now becoming like memes but they've been means for years.
- 18:09Like yeah, you know, shouting and you know, you shout out in
- 18:14the crowd and it's like that's one thing if you're, you know, I
- 18:17don't know, Queen Wembley. But if you're just like some
- 18:21band that no one's ever heard of you like, what is everyone?
- 18:25Yeah. And they just silence crickets.
- 18:27Maybe want one. Guy the front row.
- 18:29Yeah, but we seem to have a great
- 18:56sense of humor. I'm just going to, you know, I'm
- 19:00critical about our country sometimes but more.
- 19:02So, very fair. And when it comes to our sense
- 19:04of humor, we are amazing. And especially when it comes to
- 19:07things like this, like it's just like my that's what specialist.
- 19:12You could be huge in America. You can huge Germany, but you
- 19:15come here. And if we don't like you would
- 19:18be like, shut up, you prick. I just bring it back to tick
- 19:27tock for a second, I think. What are the, I mean, okay, it's
- 19:33a really basic tactic, but is clever, and it was also what led
- 19:37me on to actually sitting down and listening to your music
- 19:39properly. It's just a repetition
- 19:42repetitious nature of continuously using a sound.
- 19:45Exactly. No, I did not just as a thing,
- 19:48not not just, not just musicians, but I think it's kind
- 19:50of got me thinking a lot about, like, why does songs become
- 19:54successful? Why do they become as well?
- 19:59Renowned or liked by people and I think it comes down to
- 20:03somewhat to a repetitious nature if you keep listening to a song
- 20:06and you just like something in it.
- 20:09Like for example, you guys have a song called bellecour and
- 20:13everyone should go check it out. So very, very good song.
- 20:17Something about maybe the chorus or I don't know, maybe just the,
- 20:23it's like a very basic thing in the I've heard similar songs
- 20:27before to this style. But like I just keep listening
- 20:31to because I just I don't know it's addictive in that sense.
- 20:34And I think that's what makes well I mean it's subjective but
- 20:37like generally speaking, you know, like the most successful
- 20:40songs it's because you want to continuously listen to it
- 20:42because you know, there's something in it that keeps
- 20:44hooking you. Maybe it's that chorus.
- 20:46Maybe it's a particular riff whatever.
- 20:49Yeah. And I think I think you've done
- 20:51like a very good job of doing that, you know.
- 20:54It's not like I think that's why people like you as well.
- 20:57It's not just oh hey we're another band trying to say.
- 21:00All our stuff. It's like you have fun with it,
- 21:03you take the mecca, yourself, you create good content, which
- 21:06is arguably sort of the point of tick-tock.
- 21:09And I think that's what makes you more likable on why people
- 21:12are more willing to support you. Because it's like, okay, this
- 21:15persons or this band are trying really hard, I'll give them a
- 21:19chance and when they do, they discover a treasure Trove.
- 21:23Yeah, so yeah. I know what done?
- 21:27Well done on that. Oh, another thing which kind
- 21:30It's me into sort of a new topic, I suppose obviously
- 21:35off-camera, you kind of mentioned that, you know, your
- 21:37sort of quote unquote. Like that smells like the leader
- 21:39of the band. And I know this is sort of a
- 21:41gray area of contention for some importance but it's as it as it
- 21:45pertains to kind of like being the voice of the band.
- 21:48You know every band has won sometimes bands have to for
- 21:52example metallic as to always been Lars Ulrich really.
- 21:56But but you know, every band has that person and Guess this is a
- 22:01two-fold question 1. I'm quite interested in knowing
- 22:05what the dynamic of the band is because yes while you might be
- 22:10the person speaking that doesn't necessarily mean that you're the
- 22:13leader and sometimes it's democracy.
- 22:16Sometimes it's one or two people, Etc.
- 22:20So that's my first question to you but my second question to
- 22:22you which is linked to this as it pertains to The Tick-Tock
- 22:25content and what you're doing there, you mentioned before I
- 22:29think you said your drummer I was the one who was kind of
- 22:32pushing you to do this because it was good business-wise.
- 22:36Are you sort of the main one coming up with the content?
- 22:39Is it kind of like decide as a band?
- 22:41Does everyone kind of throw ideas like what's the Builder?
- 22:44Okay, so the first question we as a band, we are very much a
- 22:49democracy. So there's even though I like to
- 22:52think I'm the leader. Yeah.
- 22:55Okay. Is this all four of us are very
- 22:58much, you know, all the songs are written by the Four of us
- 23:01together also very much, you know, a Band of Brothers and
- 23:06we've been that way since the start and that was our thirsty
- 23:08when we started the band up and on the first day we were like,
- 23:12we're going to be everything. We just need 25%, everything
- 23:15going to be before fast. We're going to be a bang, not
- 23:18going to be, you know, this person this person it's going to
- 23:21be like, the trustee is one thing, which is quite ironic
- 23:24because now only I'm here. We've all got Michael.
- 23:31Vows within the band like yeah. And I think I've always been the
- 23:35one that there's a lot of time. Not spokesman.
- 23:37I'm not the, I'm the Press Secretary of trusted.
- 23:42Yeah. And you know, and so yeah,
- 23:45there's wigs in real life. I'm really shy like painfully,
- 23:48shy really struggles. But socially when it comes to
- 23:50band stuff and talk about bad stuff and doing stuff like this
- 23:53and making content, that's why I feel more comfortable.
- 23:57And I special, and we've got quite a good following locally
- 24:00that quiet. You know, good following locally
- 24:01in the people around, you know, us now.
- 24:05But what it still looks quite hard for me because they see the
- 24:08content or they see, you know, stuff like this or this year's
- 24:11live and they see me, you know, doing what this or stuff.
- 24:14And I mean, Rudolph and what quite quite and they think I'm
- 24:17being arrogant but I'm not arrogant, I think I'd be like, I
- 24:19might as well not much really shy.
- 24:21It's like a lot of like, you know, he's our good but I'm not,
- 24:24I'm just just shy, but was just easier.
- 24:26But this is my role in the band where it's like, you know, how
- 24:29bass plays more. So business our stuff without
- 24:32drummers more, like, you know, a technical side of stuff like,
- 24:35you know, a guitarist more like riffs and that.
- 24:38So we've all kind of got Aaron everything.
- 24:39And the second question that content context pretty much me,
- 24:45a lot of it because I because there's a voice if I want to
- 24:49Tick Tock, but I'm going to just, I'm gonna run it.
- 24:52Let me know. Okay, I think we're saying like
- 24:55that. It's like, cause you won't be
- 24:57consistent every day all the time.
- 25:00Hmm. Can't be held back with like all
- 25:02your bad decisions. Take a while at songwriting that
- 25:04is very much, they know, good luck, go backwards and forwards,
- 25:07but when it comes to like do stuff daily, like social media,
- 25:09Instagram Facebook, his best bet is just to have one person kind
- 25:13of going, like, okay, well do this and do this.
- 25:16Do this is, and they're fine with it that mean that they felt
- 25:19before IDs each other like, you know, always phone tips or ideas
- 25:22and that's fine. But I'll just get on and do it
- 25:26because that for me it's like it's got it's got to be done and
- 25:29I'll just do it. And I'm In it, I can do it
- 25:31quickly. So, yeah, it's just about
- 25:34fishing serially. And so that's why I was like,
- 25:38you know, the one to do that sort of stuff.
- 25:40That's awesome. I'm glad I asked because it
- 25:42makes sense, doesn't it sometimes like it's a lot easier
- 25:45to just kind of go. Okay, you'll run this side of
- 25:48things, you'll run this side of things I could think of bands.
- 25:51In the past, I've been a part of where sometimes, I think it
- 25:55would have been easier if we'd all just picked a roll and just
- 25:58stuck to it, but, you know, it's difficult.
- 26:00But sometimes when you want to kind of be involved in
- 26:02everything and sometimes you have to learn to just make it as
- 26:06fully split as you can just to kind of make it easier and
- 26:09fairer to be further do have one person in everything and that's
- 26:13completely fine. Yeah I want to work but I just
- 26:16this is the way we've done it, you know.
- 26:17It's very much, you know, the trust is the four of us.
- 26:20It's always been the four of us and we just do our thing it out
- 26:25on way to have you noticed And she's kind of had a bit of
- 26:31success on Tick Tock in its you getting more attention.
- 26:34You're getting more people looking at you and you and you
- 26:37and stuff. Have you noticed that when you
- 26:38go to play shows, are they're generally more people than there
- 26:42were before that, some people going out of their way, like,
- 26:45tilt us a little bit about what Tick-Tock has done for you guys
- 26:49as a band overall. Well, first thing is obviously
- 26:52like how its transferred over so Tick-Tock, you know, spotify's
- 26:57is gone. Up had a listeners, have gone up
- 26:59and You know people listen to our song of streams have gone up
- 27:03and then obviously going to stuff like Instagram give her a
- 27:06lot people at finals. Instagram message us and stop
- 27:08fucking following us on there because our it's cramped as more
- 27:12more focus on the music and the band itself.
- 27:15When it's more like just general just nonsense and they carry
- 27:21their work, you get people go like a final seconds, Tick Tock
- 27:24guys, really funny are quite the song and they click on the link,
- 27:27go to the Instagram, go are cool and they stopped you seeing
- 27:30this. Are you watch happy to see
- 27:32something? This person comment here, then
- 27:34you see him. Follow you on Instagram and
- 27:35suddenly get the notification of him.
- 27:36Not liking it and then respond to stories are.
- 27:40Okay, we've got this we've got them now.
- 27:46And yeah. So there's that and then Stones,
- 27:50definitely we've not done it. That mentality last you need
- 27:52that many shows at all so obvious reasons.
- 27:54But our last Big Show, we did a show for BBC introducing.
- 27:58Mmm. And yeah, it was, it was rammed.
- 28:01It was, it was great and you can people it was it was people
- 28:06there to see us a lot of people that their CSR normal.
- 28:09So we're noticing locally as well.
- 28:10Like it's having an effect here as well but I it's not just
- 28:14Tick-Tock. I think it is well as just the
- 28:16you keep putting songs out and over time building other stuff
- 28:20as well that that stuff come with people come with that as
- 28:23well. But I think Tick-Tock has kind
- 28:25of helped us reach places. We would be able to reach This
- 28:30is really cool because like you know even now there's this whole
- 28:33podcast doing right now like this wouldn't happen if
- 28:35Tick-Tock wasn't there, you know you found us free we might have
- 28:40done another but you technically found out you found us through
- 28:43Tick-Tock and so just show you what tips.
- 28:45Okay, can do. Yeah.
- 28:51That's what's really cool. Like you know I'm sitting here
- 28:52now because of tick-tock, yeah, it's pretty cool.
- 28:55I mean there's been quite a few guests actually found through
- 28:59tick-tock I don't always use it as a resource as opposed to
- 29:02finding guests, but I have done. And it's generally worked quite
- 29:07well in that regard and what's depends on Peter on a few months
- 29:13ago from the non-stick pans? Yes, yes I did.
- 29:18Yeah. It's weird that I thought
- 29:20following him for a while so I love his content as well.
- 29:23He's fantastic he's so funny. He's so funny.
- 29:27So intelligently so Brian's and we tell Great songwriter and
- 29:31like, obviously, you saw you talking to her.
- 29:36I watched that box. That was really interesting.
- 29:38I listen to that. I'll come in here in like his
- 29:42thoughts on things, which is really cool.
- 29:45So, yeah, it's great. And I've seen out and he found
- 29:47us. I've been following for a while
- 29:49and he found us and he stopped following articles that are
- 29:51great awesome and following us. It's amazing.
- 29:57But yeah, so that's what's so great about Tick-Tock is stuff
- 29:59like It happens, you know? Absolutely, let's talk a little
- 30:03bit about the live music scene in Essex of so you mentioned you
- 30:06played BBC introducing East. So that's awesome.
- 30:10Congratulations. But in terms of sort of your
- 30:13live music scene in Essex, I know sometimes it can change
- 30:16every sort of five to ten years in the complexion of, it can
- 30:18change. But what's it saying right now?
- 30:20Are you as usual? You've got like, a little bit of
- 30:22a following their, but what the other bands?
- 30:25Like, what's the area like like, is it buzzing?
- 30:27Is it not that's book is Like I can't explain it like South End
- 30:32where we from is small Seaside Town, what city now this place
- 30:38it just gets bubbling with bands and artists is just is so cool.
- 30:42There's so much. Obviously, we had that we've had
- 30:45bands like nothing but thieves of the from South Bend and the
- 30:48horrors comes the pitch mode. Up the road in Basildon came
- 30:52from from Essex as well. But locally, like now there's so
- 30:56many great acts coming through and there's a real scene here at
- 30:59the Moment. There's it's so many great bands
- 31:02and artists who are really doing some really impressive things.
- 31:05And so it's really healthy and it's great for us because you go
- 31:08out there, you really feel it. There's a lot of places, a lot
- 31:12of bars respectful bars and venues that are kind of putting
- 31:17all these music nights, and nurturing talent.
- 31:20And it's, you know, we would be, we've been around, you know, the
- 31:24country and stuff. And, you know, there's some
- 31:25great scenes, but there's something really special here
- 31:28and it's really The last two years.
- 31:30It's really improving ever since we're about 2014, it's kind of
- 31:34been building the building and it's at the moment.
- 31:36It's really healthy and it's creatively.
- 31:40It's great, it's really inspiring, and it's nice to
- 31:43know. We've got all different bands,
- 31:44kind of bounce off as well. So yeah, it's fantastic really,
- 31:48really cool. Awesome.
- 31:51Yeah, I'm just gonna fire some random questions at you here.
- 31:54I try to always have like a little bit of a narrative or but
- 31:57sometimes hey, it's just goes like This what are the best and
- 32:02worst things about being a musician.
- 32:08So, the best that is the worst things first.
- 32:10The worst things are your mind. I think your own brain,
- 32:16especially it spends, Less on musician.
- 32:18You are I guess because I guess if you like a if you want me for
- 32:21I can speak from a musician. I want, I'm not a great
- 32:24musician. This, you know, I played the
- 32:26accounting but I disagree with that but canary on well, but I
- 32:30think, but, ya know, So I know I learned some good time headers
- 32:38for song Right purposes, really, and just kind of play like cords
- 32:40and stuff. But you know creatively
- 32:43sometimes it's hard to live with your own brain because, you
- 32:47know, it's great for I think of new ideas.
- 32:49But also, it comes with all the other stuff.
- 32:51So there's that sort of stuff. Also, you know, the highest and
- 32:56lowest of the lows are really low and your musician.
- 32:58We know, when you play you've done gigs in the past for an 01
- 33:01or having a song, you really sit down.
- 33:04Listen to or And you know, criticize you know, those lows
- 33:09are low. So you know, I think think of
- 33:12musician as well as with other forms of things.
- 33:17You don't see the bad things in public.
- 33:20But with as a musician a lot of the bad things are kind of
- 33:24broadcast. So like if you pay keep your
- 33:25front, no one. Everyone can see your painting
- 33:27for no one. If you release a song that no
- 33:29one hears you can see it's a song that no one cares about if
- 33:32someone criticizes you everyone can see the criticism.
- 33:34So all your kind of Loans are kind of like presented online or
- 33:38in the real world but in the, the positives are the highs
- 33:41extremely high. So when people, when you come
- 33:43across that one person you like revives your song.
- 33:46When they say, cover your song, okay?
- 33:48You know, yourself someone like say that song touch them in a
- 33:55certain way, there's no greater feeling because it feels like it
- 33:59validates what you're doing, and then you pay great cooking for
- 34:02uploads. People will sing You songs back
- 34:04at you, like those Highs are so good.
- 34:06It makes you read us you know when after playing you know Shea
- 34:09Stadium while you know Keith Richards went did like loads of
- 34:11cocaine something because like how can you match that high?
- 34:16You see why the usual do drugs because just like the highest
- 34:18are so high real life can't match those eyes.
- 34:22So yeah, you know, and I was just, you know, it's great
- 34:26having something to kind of pour emotions emotions into some
- 34:30writing songs and stuff, you know, he's so great.
- 34:33So much fun to write songs with, you know, people, you know,
- 34:36People, you respect sloppy in the band with people, you love
- 34:39and don't stop. Write songs are going to share
- 34:41that bond is just amazing. So yeah like the lows are very
- 34:45low in the highs are very high and it's the path we did.
- 34:51I like that very poetic. Yeah.
- 34:54You mentioned about songwriting there and obviously you
- 34:57mentioned a little bit earlier that it's kind of like a
- 34:59democracy as far as that's concerned too.
- 35:02But let's talk a little bit about your songwriting process
- 35:04as a band like You know for example and you write the lyrics
- 35:09or did someone else, write the lyrics who comes up the riffs,
- 35:11like tell us how these songs come together as a band.
- 35:15So it's a bit like a, it's a bit of a madhouse really lucky
- 35:18random every time. But I guess like a lot of, you
- 35:22know, depends like a lot songs of come out of that.
- 35:24Just Jam in a room, the four of us together, just playing and
- 35:27suddenly down, he's a guitarist starts, playing some really cool
- 35:31riff and we will just stop playing along.
- 35:32And the song Started we sort of like, weird shape because of
- 35:35that No carve out a really cool song Because the actual song, I
- 35:41mean, I vital that areas I've written are every word has been
- 35:44me but that's mainly because the other three don't want to do it.
- 35:49Just gonna and I really enjoy writing lyrics.
- 35:53Like I love writing lyrics. And for me it's like as a
- 35:56singer, that's the lyrics like my instrument.
- 35:58You know, when I'm singing the words coming out of my mail.
- 36:02So if I'm seeing words, I've written, they're going to rest.
- 36:06Late more kids coming from me in like we found, especially in
- 36:11lockdown, got to change the way we write because of you could
- 36:15meet up so we you know songs I've ever called or written on a
- 36:18computer, you know, like wow, I'm down on logic and then stop
- 36:25quickly go around each other's houses and start laying down.
- 36:27If a b and then we go to the studio and record it.
- 36:30It's different every time and in different members of the band
- 36:32come up with different riffs, you know, sometimes that doubt
- 36:35our guitarist, Popcorn truth, sometimes they're both placed in
- 36:39sometimes. Even Dave on drugs as like
- 36:41guitar stuff. What kind of stuff and we just
- 36:44kind of. Yeah, we just can't, it comes
- 36:46from a different place every time but lyrically, it's always
- 36:49me. But yeah, so it's a bit of a
- 36:53random on really, we haven't really got a set way of doing
- 36:55things. It kind of just some songs come
- 36:57out to am in, you know, in a bedroom, some songs come out,
- 37:01you know, in a rehearsal room, you know, top ten in the
- 37:03morning, it's just it's depends on.
- 37:06Where the sun is in the sky, really?
- 37:10Have any tips you could give to aspiring songwriters yet?
- 37:15Well, my big one is I think the worst these enemy That's all
- 37:21crazy. People's perfectionism so
- 37:24worried about is this thing I'm doing really crap?
- 37:28And so one way I got over that and exotic fetishism at least a
- 37:31writer's block. So the way I got over that was
- 37:35by I write a song every single day without fail.
- 37:37I cannot go to bed until Written song.
- 37:39Oh wow. 120, I've kept up and I'll get after they have a
- 37:44recording but my thumb start to finish every day and if I had a
- 37:48busy day and I What? I tell my God, I can't go to
- 37:50sleep. So, I've written a song about
- 37:51stay up and run the song, and if you do that, you know, you might
- 37:56write over a month, like, 30 songs over a month, like once a
- 37:58day and it 29 or 30, might be terrible.
- 38:02But you just the fact you've done it.
- 38:04Just get into the habit of writers writing songs like a
- 38:06muscle. So for me, it's just like, keep
- 38:08trying that muscle, keep trying that muscle and get and always
- 38:12get comfortable with right and rubbish songs.
- 38:14You know, I've written hundreds of rubbish songs, but if I write
- 38:1850, rubbish song, One really good song then I've achieved
- 38:22something. So my advice is right, every
- 38:24single day, right? Every single day, that is, that
- 38:27is the key. But it's just it's just that's
- 38:30the way to do it in my opinion and of all stuff man.
- 38:33Thank you so much for sharing. Going to change gears a little
- 38:39bit here. What's the best piece of advice
- 38:43you've ever received? Or get your haircut.
- 38:51No and mean I think is really key is You've
- 39:17got to be done upon apologetically you so don't
- 39:21change who you are, don't put, you know, something on for the
- 39:24cameras or got to be you because people see through bullshit.
- 39:30So, you've got to be, you know, we as a band, embrace our
- 39:34weirdness. We embrace the fact that we're
- 39:36for complete losers who are like, you know, trying to be the
- 39:41world's most uncool, but trying to speak, we try to be cool by
- 39:43being the most world's most uncool bands.
- 39:45That's our goal. But you've got to be you, you've
- 39:48got to be completely honest, and people like that, and I think
- 39:52that is, that is it? You got be authentic, you can't
- 39:54change the people. We've got a stick to who you
- 39:57are. I think it has its applied to
- 40:00anything. And what's the biggest life
- 40:04lesson that you've learned so far?
- 40:08I think things take time, patience, you know, patients
- 40:13things, take time and things, you know, films and
- 40:17documentaries of pre-programmed us to feel like things happen
- 40:21very quickly. They don't things take time and
- 40:24you just leave it patient and be that, you know, the, you know,
- 40:27don't panic if things take longer than you think because,
- 40:32you know, some things take 10 years, some things you know take
- 40:3520 years but they You'll get there in the end.
- 40:37Whatever the thing is, you know, you got to just be patient and
- 40:40just You know, stick to what you're doing.
- 40:44Fantastic, thank you so much for that and as we draw things to a
- 40:48close for today, do you have any upcoming projects or maybe some
- 40:51final thoughts that you'd like to leave our listeners with what
- 40:55doesn't know, very deeply I? Didn't it very deep.
- 40:59I like that. I like to gauge the, what is
- 41:02your is your song writer, as well, you write songs, what is
- 41:08your advice for summarize? Gonna flip the tables, turn how
- 41:14the turntables fascinating everywhere.
- 41:19But you know, when you come across another someone so it's
- 41:22always interesting because it wasn't their own process and I'm
- 41:25always intrigued to ask summarize, same question.
- 41:27Like know, what's your advice? What is the key to you to
- 41:30writing songs? Well, I will say always have an
- 41:36app or paper or something on you at all times.
- 41:42The amount of times it's been like, I don't know, I'm walking
- 41:45somewhere and it's pissing it down with rain.
- 41:47I'm like oh I got this thing. I got this thing and I need to
- 41:49get somewhere just so I can quickly type it and have it
- 41:52there. It's normally lyrics but all,
- 41:56you know, to am, I can't stop thinking about it, I've got to
- 41:59write it down, you know. But to be honest for me, my kind
- 42:04of songwriting process has changed massively.
- 42:07It used to be, write the lyrics first then.
- 42:11No Eva Jam in a room, just like you how you guys do or Jam
- 42:16myself as a solo artist but now totally different.
- 42:22I start jamming first. And if I like what I hear, let's
- 42:26fry to think about how it makes me feel.
- 42:29And then I try to put, I just write some lyrics on the spot,
- 42:33but from advice, I mean, I think there is no right way to do it.
- 42:40I think you have to Uh kind of. And I know it's a very nothing
- 42:44kind of response but I'm not at all.
- 42:47Well what I mean is it's not very it's the same old thing.
- 42:51You've got to do it your way, you got to do what works for
- 42:53you, you know. But it's so true though like
- 42:56it's there's no rules that you know, you can't teach you can
- 42:58only teach someone so much when it comes to write songs that
- 43:01song writing is. So you know, it's such a
- 43:03personal thing and it's so Random.
- 43:06It's a chaotic process that I think that, you know people if
- 43:09people think that would know Like oh yes, to your own
- 43:12witness. Yeah.
- 43:13Definitely because like you got to do things wrong way.
- 43:15You're right. Something's wrong way.
- 43:16So yeah I think that's totally valid and totally not nothing.
- 43:20Comment at all. I think it applies to everything
- 43:23in life as well. I mean, when I look at
- 43:25everything that I do in my life, I've got my way of doing it and
- 43:29the only time that I actually realize that it's either unique
- 43:34to me or its maybe not like the conventional way as when I start
- 43:38talking to other people. No, because I don't often.
- 43:41Ask other people for advice and that's not because I don't value
- 43:44other people's advice, or anything part of it is
- 43:47stubbornness. I like to kind of figure things
- 43:49out on my own part of it is I think the thing that I've
- 43:56realized about asking advice is that, if you ask her advice, you
- 44:00may not like what you hear? Oh yeah, definitely, that's the
- 44:03thing because you're asking you asking someone else and be ready
- 44:07to be criticized and criticism is not a bad thing.
- 44:10Obviously, the person giving you the criticism or the
- 44:13constructive criticism has a, yeah, they can do it nicely
- 44:18like, for example, I uploaded a video earlier and someone Give
- 44:23some constructive criticism they said oh I feel that this isn't
- 44:27quite they said the exact wording was hey I don't know, I
- 44:33don't know anything about music but no offense but it sounds a
- 44:36bit off like tonal wise, employer in places, but cheers,
- 44:42and then normally I don't respond but because people were
- 44:44rude and nasty but this person was just fat like them fair
- 44:47enough. That's and I just said music
- 44:49subjective. I appreciate your comment.
- 44:51I said basically like thank you for In rude.
- 44:54And then I kind of just went on to say like maybe it sounds a
- 44:57bit different because this song is in.
- 45:00I don't know. It's normally sung in a lower
- 45:03key. I did it in a hierarchy, maybe
- 45:05that's what you're hearing, but I'll keep it in mind because I
- 45:09think, you know, I'm always willing to take on constructive
- 45:13criticism and I think everyone should be, you know, but I do
- 45:17think that's the thing. Yeah, I think you have to learn
- 45:19how to take it on board and It doesn't matter what anyone says,
- 45:24everyone takes criticism. Personally, even if they've even
- 45:27if they figured it out and they think, yeah, I can take it.
- 45:30I can take it soon as you hear it, you're like hmm.
- 45:32Well last year, we are at this chick talk about 80's bands.
- 45:38I wasn't digging That 80's bands.
- 45:39I'll just make it a modern technology at the fact that when
- 45:42you come on technology that you can press one key in it, that
- 45:45plays a whole song, but about a joke about no ice bags, the aces
- 45:49be like check out my new single press the kid play the whole
- 45:51song. And I made it very clear that
- 45:53this is not is a dissident of a comment on that play on The
- 45:58Stereotype and a play on the on the fact that modern technology
- 46:02is so, you know, crazy now. But people just, I got roasted,
- 46:06I got destroyed. Wow.
- 46:08And directing people to very personally and they were
- 46:12attacking the way I looked my face.
- 46:14My teeth, my hair. I was getting.
- 46:16Yeah. That.
- 46:16Yeah. People.
- 46:17And even though like it doesn't In the long night, doesn't
- 46:21bother me at all, but when you read the first on you read, it
- 46:22is like, you know, sometimes, you know, you just rubbed your
- 46:25elbow like a stinging, nettle to get it all.
- 46:27What's all like, a bit hot in here?
- 46:30And, you know, it's, I didn't actually think I would go on to
- 46:34this today, but you make a very good point.
- 46:39I actually had to delete because I used to have YouTube Studio on
- 46:42my, on my phone, and I deleted it because I was receiving so
- 46:47much hate that. Beginning to affect my mental
- 46:51health. Like I was I was you know you
- 46:53know it's like a certain video was like a cross, a few just
- 46:59across everything, you know, like people people want to give
- 47:01their opinions and I'm all for, you know.
- 47:04No censorship. You know, you say, you say what
- 47:06you want, you know, you have your right.
- 47:10I also have the right to ignore your comment, you know if it's
- 47:14rude because you know, here's the thing like I'll respond to
- 47:19nice comments. And are also respond to
- 47:21constructive criticism. If it's if it's polite, I will
- 47:24respond to it, you know. Obviously, it's a bit different.
- 47:27If you have a video that has like thousands of comments.
- 47:29It's just impossible to keep up, but generally speaking.
- 47:33I don't get a lot of views, so I'm able to do that and that's
- 47:36fine but a lot of them were sort of comments.
- 47:40You're receiving that, you know, just personal attacks.
- 47:42Like, you know, this is trash, your trash cringe, you know, not
- 47:48even had death threats a few Yeah, it's supposed to be a day.
- 47:54When if I look like you I'd kill myself, right?
- 47:57And it's you can't be saying stuff like that to people like
- 47:59you just and it's a sort of thing that you know you know 99%
- 48:04people would never have the guts to say that to your face but I
- 48:08think that's the problem might with us.
- 48:11Like we're we're quite active online continuously and we're
- 48:15checking things and we're checking it from a business
- 48:17standpoint. Like I to be honest if I Wasn't
- 48:20the content creator. If I wasn't doing like pursuing
- 48:22acting pursue music scream podcast, if I wasn't doing that
- 48:26I wouldn't have these social medias, maybe I might have
- 48:29YouTube just to watch stuff but I wouldn't have this stuff and I
- 48:32wouldn't be checking it but because I have to leave for
- 48:35business, I obviously have to interact with comments and
- 48:38inevitably, you're going to see these comments and I try to
- 48:42reduce it, you know, and people who give me nice comments and
- 48:47who support me about my community, they always say.
- 48:50Don't focus on that. You know, you got maybe 15
- 48:52comments, that say something really nice.
- 48:53And it's like, yeah, but sometimes you're an inhuman.
- 48:56Is that a? Yes, sometimes, sometimes it's
- 48:58the first thing you see, or sometimes you release a video
- 49:00and all it gets a negative comments and it just ruins your
- 49:04day or just makes you feel terrible.
- 49:05And, you know, I'm the sort of person like these things sit
- 49:10with me sometime, sometimes I can just be like head or
- 49:11whatever but like sometimes it's it's with me and it's like It's
- 49:16interesting. What you were saying about how
- 49:17they attack you personally, sometimes because I think with
- 49:20that, I've noticed it's a two-fold thing.
- 49:25So if you're being I don't think that should ever be something
- 49:30brought in like even if you think someone's piece of crap,
- 49:33you know, for their opinions that maybe I don't know.
- 49:36They're just a really horrible person.
- 49:38All right. But I know I've never understood
- 49:40like, oh well, I'm just going to attack them personally, but, you
- 49:43know, he's gonna be like, oh, you're making a horrible remark
- 49:46about this. So I'm going to attack your
- 49:49face. I don't get it, but that's just
- 49:52Because it doesn't make sense like to me, for example, like
- 49:55I've because I don't, I hate confrontation but in the few
- 49:58times that I've tried to like debate people online, like when
- 50:01they've disagreed with something, if they feel, they're
- 50:05losing always attack you. It's and as soon as it goes,
- 50:08personal I just stopped responding.
- 50:10So I'm not. Well, obviously, this person is
- 50:12not to be taken seriously, because they have to resort to
- 50:14attacks and that you're no longer get trying to get a point
- 50:18across or Express Affair opinion.
- 50:21You're just trying to attack. tap someone, but I think, A
- 50:27bigger thing is that people just kind of like to bring people
- 50:30down, I don't know. Maybe sometimes people want to
- 50:33bring people down a peg or they are jealous or, you know,
- 50:36whatever the case may be but I'll give you a really good
- 50:38example. I did a video.
- 50:41Basically one of my friends from school is on the The Apprentice
- 50:45Right Now TV show. Yeah, it's good, isn't it good
- 50:50season but I don't I don't normally watch The Apprentice.
- 50:53I haven't watched it since the 2000s.
- 50:55But when I saw So my friend on it, Akshay, who's on those?
- 51:00He's a school friend of mine. Yeah, we this is the funny thing
- 51:03we're in business school together like business class
- 51:06from GCSE to a level and as soon as I saw me about it I was like
- 51:12this is the right choice. Like he he was that person, then
- 51:14this is, you know. Anyway, I posted because I've
- 51:20been following his whole journey and I've been covering it on my
- 51:23second Tick-Tock account, you know, partly for fun.
- 51:26Also, because I want to show support and and also because I'm
- 51:29actually quite invested in it like just in general.
- 51:32Like, you know, it went from just an initial.
- 51:35Okay, I'm supporting my friend too.
- 51:37Yeah, and I actually really wanted to win and that I've got
- 51:40a few other favorites and stuff but I remember in the very first
- 51:44video that I did about him where I said like oh I went to school
- 51:46with him but blah, I tried not to make it a lot about me.
- 51:50I tried to kind of think about the things that he'd said to me
- 51:53back then and that the way he was because obviously, You know,
- 51:5610 years is a long time. I like things change, you know?
- 51:59And obviously he's a man now of successful business owner, and
- 52:03stuff, and most of the comments were just interested in, is a
- 52:07few people like joking. Like, he's not going to win and
- 52:10that's fine. But there was one person who
- 52:13said something like, let's be honest.
- 52:19Something like He did better than you something like that.
- 52:25Like you like a he's successful in life and you're not kind of
- 52:27thing. And At first I was really
- 52:32tempted to just do a response video but I held against it held
- 52:37off sometimes, I think about it now and on my God I'd love to
- 52:42have like that successful moment where I could tag that comment
- 52:45and be like look at me now and who knows?
- 52:48Maybe that day will come, I don't know, but it kind of and
- 52:51it's stupid because it's just, you know, same old, no profile,
- 52:55no name person and you know but sometimes you see those things
- 53:00and it's like Geez, I was just like supporting my friend.
- 53:03Like I'm not jealous of my fam, really happy for.
- 53:05Is it to me? It feels like a family members
- 53:08just done something huge and you know, I've always been I've been
- 53:13envious of the people around me that are more successful than I
- 53:16am. Like, I've got a few friends
- 53:18that are doing really well. Some of whom are even famous now
- 53:21that they're getting to that point.
- 53:23And, you know, I'm not here because I'm envious but I'm not
- 53:26jealous of them because there's just shit.
- 53:28Like I think you got to be proud of the people around you and
- 53:33support their successes and not be bitter or were jealous
- 53:36because it's just not nice to be like that.
- 53:38And you know, like everyone has a journey.
- 53:41Like, for example, I have no doubt in my mind that one day,
- 53:45The Trusted is going to be a big band.
- 53:46Like, I think you're already getting there.
- 53:48I think it's just a matter of time.
- 53:50I own. I really do I really believe
- 53:51that and Inevitably when that day comes, when I don't know,
- 53:57maybe you sell your, you know, your debut album, it goes huge
- 54:01or or I don't know, you hit all time streams on spot whatever.
- 54:06Whatever that moment is where you know, because that moment
- 54:10will happen and your lives will go crazy and suddenly, you'll
- 54:13be, you know, things will just Skyrocket and there will be
- 54:17people that will say in the media overnight success.
- 54:22That's something that they'll say.
- 54:24And you and the rest of the band will be like, well, I mean we've
- 54:27been doing this since 2016. We know.
- 54:28It's not like that. And you'll say that, but the
- 54:31story will be told. Oh, one minute.
- 54:33Then over these the next minute, they're there.
- 54:35Something. And I've always taken exception
- 54:37this with this because and you know, I'm guilty of saying it
- 54:41myself and I'm trying to change my attitude as far as talking
- 54:46about myself. Like I've referred to myself as
- 54:48a nobody before and I've had my community sort of be like, you
- 54:51shouldn't say that. That's bad to think that way and
- 54:55it is. And I think you got to remember
- 54:58that successful. No, success.
- 55:01Like it's about doing what you're passionate about and
- 55:04loving what you do and and that being the focus and that being
- 55:07the drive and that being what I mean.
- 55:10And like, who cares if you become successful or not, like,
- 55:15you know, there's people, I've met who have been famous, who
- 55:19really weren't that special because the end of the day, Day.
- 55:24People are just people. If you become famous, you become
- 55:26successful, you still, yeah, you're still the same person.
- 55:29You see. I Still Human Being.
- 55:30I mean, Fame, can change people and we've seen that time and
- 55:33time and time again, but it's get powers.
- 55:37You're still so just, you know, still going to the toilet, you
- 55:40still eating, you know, that's the thing.
- 55:41I think a lot of people forget that I think a lot of people
- 55:44look at that. Like I think that commenter who
- 55:45said that to me in their mind a lot.
- 55:48Oh, will your friends successful?
- 55:49But you're not like majan how you feel?
- 55:51And I'm like I'm proud of him. I'm really happy if I'm excited
- 55:55for him, I'm like wow this is going to need to this and this
- 55:58and you know like like he's in the final weight right now and
- 56:01I'm just like praying that he gets through and it's weird
- 56:04because I remember marking the first couple of weeks like, hey,
- 56:11this is the first time in a long time.
- 56:12That I've seen someone around me that it's doing really, really
- 56:15well. And I'm super like excited for
- 56:18them. And I'm not thinking about
- 56:19myself or comparing to myself or any shape or form.
- 56:22I'm just purely just Good for them and it reminded me.
- 56:26Do you know what, that's how I should be for like everyone in
- 56:28my life. Whatever their successes is
- 56:31whatever they do. Like that's how you should be
- 56:33for the people that care about and the people around.
- 56:36You like celebrate their successes, because your time
- 56:39will come and then they will celebrate you.
- 56:43Exactly. And you come across the bed
- 56:46person's world because it shows you that, you know, you can do
- 56:49that, you can celebrate other people's successes and you don't
- 56:52come across as a bit person. Next, I really is really
- 56:55powerful because it's really see someone doing.
- 56:57Well, it's really easy to get angry.
- 57:00It's a lot. It's a lot harder to shake your
- 57:01hand in your world on. That's hard to do that really
- 57:05hard. It's really hard to look someone
- 57:06in the eye and go I'm proud of you.
- 57:08Or, you know, what you're doing is amazing and it's really easy,
- 57:12just to go, your registered, you know, dickhead their up, their
- 57:15own ass, you know, I don't deserve this, that's easy but
- 57:20like, you know, congratulate someone's very is hard, it's a
- 57:23lot harder on it. Oh look it's not particular more
- 57:25strength to do that. So I think that you know it
- 57:27takes a lot of balls to know, you know.
- 57:29Go yeah. Actually well done you that's
- 57:31like that's that's really powerful and they will get
- 57:34packing it pays off in the end because people remember that
- 57:37people to people do notice, people do remember these things
- 57:41people do. Remember people saying that and
- 57:43it always in the end, you know, people will remember that and it
- 57:47will come back to you. Just say I'll come back and buy
- 57:49it if you're addicted. Yeah.
- 57:52Very true. Very true.
- 57:54Promise that your story like the internet gives people the
- 57:56ability to say nasty things about face.
- 57:59You know, everyone becomes, you know individual entity little
- 58:02bit Macon and I got there and say whatever they want and if
- 58:05people know they know what was to use and what to say to upset,
- 58:10people are know how to do that. That, that, that comment.
- 58:12And I've put in at the exact point by saying, like, hitting
- 58:15out the way that you said that you should word in that right
- 58:18way. Is that right?
- 58:19Dig? We accept it.
- 58:20Just hits the right buttons in your brain because just It's
- 58:23very cleverly worded to that make you feel a certain way
- 58:25because you know we all know that being told that persons in
- 58:28better than you it's like a difference is that in a way
- 58:31that's worse. Someone saying you look ugly
- 58:34because it's a more direct hit broad like you know you you know
- 58:40you've got a big head. Like you know someone said that
- 58:44to me I actually own one of my recent podcasts on my YouTube.
- 58:50They said like why is your head shape that way?
- 58:53At first I was like, what the fuck?
- 58:54And then I just could not stop laughing.
- 58:56I thought that was hilarious as a sign of love from the guy of
- 59:05the massive head. So, you know, I got a brand
- 59:09outfit, my massive square head is now part of the trusted
- 59:12brand. So, who's winning?
- 59:13Who's winning? Listen.
- 59:17It's been an absolute pleasure. Having you on the show and I
- 59:21wish you and the rest of the It's all the success.
- 59:24I know you're going to, you're going to do big things in the
- 59:26coming years and yeah, just thank you so much for being on
- 59:30the show sincerely. Appreciate it, good stuff.
- 59:35Well do I will do it. And to all those listening to
