- 0:03Speaker 1: Phoebe insert like a phone ringing noise here, Okay, thanks hello, yeah,
- 0:10Speaker 1: like Gary movie? Um is this Caitlyn Jenner. For those
- 0:22Speaker 1: of you listening, if you haven't guessed, we are watching
- 0:26Speaker 1: the screen movies today, movies that you have inducted me
- 0:30Speaker 1: into kind of or whether you are the fan and
- 0:32Speaker 1: I had never watched them before. Yes, we have finally
- 0:36Speaker 1: reached the episode where I kill fran a spoiler what
- 0:42Speaker 1: we're doing this episode. I'm gonna murder. I'm into that.
- 0:46Speaker 1: I want to be wearing the skimpiest outfit skims only. Okay,
- 0:52Speaker 1: and you almost, you almost make it like you almost
- 0:54Speaker 1: kill the killer, but then you get got, You get
- 0:59Speaker 1: at God, you get God because this is like a
- 1:02Speaker 1: virgin the show where we give yesterday's pop culture today's takes.
- 1:06Speaker 1: I'm Rose, damn you, and I'm friend Toronto. I'm so
- 1:09Speaker 1: excited and we are literally screaming about scream literally literally.
- 1:20Speaker 1: I have a new car. Oh my god, that's right,
- 1:23Speaker 1: grieving that gay people still can't drive. Yeah, exactly. I
- 1:29Speaker 1: have done pretty much nothing with it other than listen
- 1:32Speaker 1: to that new route Paul song Catwalk. Have you heard this?
- 1:37Speaker 1: I did hear it? Wait, so have you been going
- 1:42Speaker 1: anywhere where? Yeah? I you know, I it's it's it's
- 1:46Speaker 1: an amazing concept. You know. I can drive to the
- 1:48Speaker 1: grocery star, I can drive to work out, I can
- 1:52Speaker 1: drive to the park. I'm a car girl. Now. I'm
- 1:55Speaker 1: so happy for you. Finally, after almost two years of
- 2:00Speaker 1: driving you literally everywhere. When is our first road trip?
- 2:06Speaker 1: It could be as soon as you wanted to be. However,
- 2:08Speaker 1: your newly committed relationship, I think, is maybe going to
- 2:12Speaker 1: decide when, Rose, do you want to tell the virgins? Oh?
- 2:16Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I have a dog. I got a dog.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I got a dog right between Christmas and New Year's
- 2:23Speaker 1: She was my Christmas gift to myself. Or I guess
- 2:26Speaker 1: maybe better put my apartment was my Christmas gift to
- 2:31Speaker 1: her because it has now become her space entirely. Um,
- 2:37Speaker 1: the Mike probably isn't picking it up. But she is
- 2:39Speaker 1: currently in her crate in my bedroom, winding up a
- 2:42Speaker 1: storm because we are crate training, which is not going great. Well, Rose,
- 2:48Speaker 1: she wants to be on the pod. Yeah, she has
- 2:50Speaker 1: some hot takes on and just like that. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 2:54Speaker 1: She actually really likes h d As. Actually, no, like
- 2:58Speaker 1: when I'm watching TV. She's not interested in it. Wow,
- 3:02Speaker 1: that's a bad dog. You should be TV training her.
- 3:05Speaker 1: She does like some music, though. Yesterday she was kind
- 3:08Speaker 1: of bopping around to Muna Oh featuring Phoebe Bridgers featuring
- 3:14Speaker 1: So my dog is a lesbian or she they buy Okay, wait,
- 3:19Speaker 1: so you should play your dog the new Rue song obviously, um,
- 3:23Speaker 1: I watched the drag Race premiere that the Rue Song
- 3:27Speaker 1: debut on. I should also disclaim that I don't like
- 3:30Speaker 1: any of Ruse music period, Like I haven't enjoyed a
- 3:33Speaker 1: Rue song since Supermo. I can with Adrenaline. That's that's
- 3:38Speaker 1: a banger. No no, no no no to the okay
- 3:44Speaker 1: that that song is fine? I can. I can maybe
- 3:47Speaker 1: vouch for Sissy that walk, but outside of that, not
- 3:49Speaker 1: a Roof fan. However, this album has a lot of
- 3:52Speaker 1: um of the moment production value. I don't want to
- 3:56Speaker 1: give it too much credit because it's still music era.
- 4:00Speaker 1: She's She's in her Blue Blue bearra in that um.
- 4:03Speaker 1: This song that I like sounds like Dua Lipa, and
- 4:06Speaker 1: two other songs just sound like Sophie Rips. Actually, there's
- 4:09Speaker 1: like one song that someone's rest on power. I know,
- 4:13Speaker 1: it's very really actually and fans and wants to work.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Ru was like, who's this Sophie girl? What? What's what's
- 4:20Speaker 1: her like? I think that's giving her Excuse me, I
- 4:24Speaker 1: think that's giving him him, Paul a lot of credit
- 4:28Speaker 1: in that. I don't actually believe he is involved in
- 4:31Speaker 1: any way with the production of his music. Like when
- 4:33Speaker 1: he performed that song on the Drag Race premiere. I
- 4:36Speaker 1: believe that is the first time he'd ever heard the song,
- 4:40Speaker 1: and I thought it was so funny. How I saw
- 4:43Speaker 1: a clip of the pit stop and they were talking
- 4:46Speaker 1: about Rue doing Corio and It's like, what around? I mean,
- 4:53Speaker 1: she's six, I mean he is sixty one. If I'm
- 4:55Speaker 1: sixty one and I can still do you know, a
- 4:58Speaker 1: little flick of the wrists, a little hip switch in
- 5:00Speaker 1: some heels. I think she sells it in the face.
- 5:03Speaker 1: I mean he sells it the face and looked great.
- 5:06Speaker 1: But I mean the premier itself was actually very good.
- 5:08Speaker 1: I mean, I don't I feel like I have to
- 5:11Speaker 1: be the correspondent on this show, But like, did you
- 5:14Speaker 1: watch it? So you've watched it? Yeah? What else? Still
- 5:18Speaker 1: have a to do? I have a new I have
- 5:20Speaker 1: a new puppy at home. Like I'm not leaving my apartment. So, yeah,
- 5:24Speaker 1: I watched drag Race. Who was your favorite? And why
- 5:27Speaker 1: was it cornbread? She was the one that was like,
- 5:31Speaker 1: I'm the number one was at one personator. Oh yeah,
- 5:34Speaker 1: she was good. At this point, I don't have like
- 5:37Speaker 1: opinions about any of them. I'm really accepted. I did
- 5:40Speaker 1: think it was funny that that one girl wore flip flops.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Actually do love that. It was it was like very
- 5:47Speaker 1: Macy Rodman like at bath Salts. I was literally about
- 5:51Speaker 1: to say, so that girl Willow Hill, who was kind
- 5:53Speaker 1: of maybe the Twitter sentiment favorite. I mean, obviously everybody
- 5:56Speaker 1: loves corn bread, but I think the most people were
- 5:58Speaker 1: talking about Willow Pill on Twitter afterwards when she entered.
- 6:02Speaker 1: I didn't. I didn't dig it because it's just so
- 6:05Speaker 1: different than what we usually see on the like kind
- 6:08Speaker 1: of polish of drag Race. But you're so right, Like
- 6:11Speaker 1: what she is giving is so Brooklyn drag like in
- 6:15Speaker 1: that it is like, you know, a little busted and
- 6:17Speaker 1: like definitely dropped out of an art school, you know
- 6:19Speaker 1: what I mean, Like they're they're so and I love
- 6:22Speaker 1: the kind of performance e element of what she did.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Like I just fell in love with her more and
- 6:26Speaker 1: more as the episode went on, So I'll be interested
- 6:29Speaker 1: to see like if that kind of like weirdo aesthetic
- 6:33Speaker 1: can like make it all the way to like a
- 6:35Speaker 1: top moment. But you know, still a great premiere. Still
- 6:39Speaker 1: rooting for the girls, Rooting for Carrie Colby also too.
- 6:41Speaker 1: I think she's like she seems a little nervous, but
- 6:45Speaker 1: you know, I'm excited. Well transform, Yeah, I think corn
- 6:51Speaker 1: Bread is also trans so at least she doesn't have
- 6:54Speaker 1: She's not alone this season, which is kind of nice.
- 6:57Speaker 1: I love to see the dolls represented. Um, speaking of
- 7:01Speaker 1: dolls represented, Uh, did you watch the Euphoria premiere? No?
- 7:06Speaker 1: I think what kept me from watching the premiere the
- 7:10Speaker 1: other night was that I haven't watched the special from
- 7:15Speaker 1: last year, nor do I plan to. They're very traumatic,
- 7:18Speaker 1: so yeah, they're basically therapy. Can I just skip them
- 7:22Speaker 1: and go straight to season two? Do I need? Is?
- 7:24Speaker 1: There is there plocked information in them that I need? This? Okay?
- 7:30Speaker 1: This is this is useful for the virgins too, And no,
- 7:34Speaker 1: this is not yes or no yes Otunately, when it
- 7:36Speaker 1: comes to Euphoria, nothing is a yes or no answer
- 7:38Speaker 1: to that. To that effect, I'm happy to be the
- 7:41Speaker 1: Euphoria correspondent for this show, and I can do so
- 7:43Speaker 1: without spoiling anything for you. I did rewatch the Euphoria
- 7:47Speaker 1: special episodes before watching the premiere. I did think it
- 7:51Speaker 1: was very essential to my viewing experience. There are minute
- 7:56Speaker 1: plot points that are revealed and the special episodes that
- 7:58Speaker 1: I think are pretty important. But do they recap them
- 8:02Speaker 1: at the beginning of the episode. No, No, they do not,
- 8:05Speaker 1: because they're just completely different in format. They're not like
- 8:08Speaker 1: episodes of TV. They're kind of like too long character studies,
- 8:12Speaker 1: and uh, you know, it's some of my favorite TV
- 8:19Speaker 1: writing I've ever seen in a very, very long time.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I really do watch the show and I'm like this,
- 8:25Speaker 1: this is what everyone is hyped about, Like, well, I
- 8:28Speaker 1: enjoy it, but but I'm also like this, really, but
- 8:31Speaker 1: I'm happy that you love it so much. I'm excited
- 8:35Speaker 1: to hear about what you don't like, because I mean,
- 8:37Speaker 1: not to blow up your spot. You really loved the
- 8:39Speaker 1: show when you first watched, like when you watched the
- 8:42Speaker 1: first few episodes. Well, I think a big part of
- 8:44Speaker 1: it is just like, as I've gotten older, I have
- 8:48Speaker 1: kind of less time for investigating the interior lives of
- 8:53Speaker 1: teenagers because I'm just like, you're not a person, You're
- 8:56Speaker 1: like you're a zygo, You're like a lump of clay.
- 9:00Speaker 1: I guess like I would not want to see my
- 9:02Speaker 1: own high school experience as like as an HBO series, right, Okay, Well,
- 9:08Speaker 1: I mean I don't really think of them as teenagers.
- 9:11Speaker 1: They're basically adults, and but they are teenagers. And that's
- 9:14Speaker 1: what gets weird because they're like having all this like
- 9:16Speaker 1: crazy sex and doing all these drugs, and it's like
- 9:19Speaker 1: it's TV. It's TV, and that's I mean that to
- 9:21Speaker 1: me actually, And I think that the premiere showed this
- 9:24Speaker 1: off really well, is that this show has a complete
- 9:29Speaker 1: fantasy world of what we might have envisioned our high
- 9:33Speaker 1: school experiences to be if they were as dramatic as
- 9:36Speaker 1: they felt. You know what I mean, Because when you're
- 9:38Speaker 1: in high school, it really everything does feel like the
- 9:41Speaker 1: end of the world. Everything does feel like life or
- 9:43Speaker 1: death because your your hormones are so high. And like,
- 9:46Speaker 1: I love that this premiere had like you know, steakouts
- 9:49Speaker 1: and hundred mile per hour car rides and like a
- 9:52Speaker 1: cheating scandal and like bloody fights and weapons and like
- 9:55Speaker 1: drug dealing babies and like, I just loved it, um
- 9:58Speaker 1: nothing more just sturbing. Though then Nate cracking a beer
- 10:02Speaker 1: bottle open with his teeth multiple times. I think Nate
- 10:05Speaker 1: honestly is like a manifestation. He's basically just like the
- 10:09Speaker 1: villain and the hot villain. He's like a manifestation of
- 10:12Speaker 1: like every enemies to lovers fantasy like I've ever had. Also,
- 10:16Speaker 1: will say a next one of the most stressful episodes
- 10:19Speaker 1: of the series too. There's a very stressful scene that
- 10:21Speaker 1: happens in a bathtub with Sydney Sweeney, who does some
- 10:24Speaker 1: of the best acting of the series. Um. I also,
- 10:27Speaker 1: I lovingly refer to her as a jugsy Malone because yeah,
- 10:34Speaker 1: she's like seventeen years old and she's got like tatas,
- 10:36Speaker 1: but she's actually your in spirited alert. They're all like thirty,
- 10:40Speaker 1: she's twenty four. Okay, Well that's that's l A thirty.
- 10:44Speaker 1: That's l A thirty. Yeah yeah, um okay. Anyways, the
- 10:48Speaker 1: world building of Euphoria is like my favorite thing on
- 10:51Speaker 1: the planet, and that is kind of why what is
- 10:53Speaker 1: the world besides the world these horny teenagers, Like, what
- 10:57Speaker 1: is the world being built? It's it's so much richer
- 11:00Speaker 1: than that. The world is a kind of like I
- 11:04Speaker 1: I know, I'm taking this very seriously, but a very
- 11:05Speaker 1: like fun house mirror of high school and like a
- 11:09Speaker 1: very dystopian high stakes kind of like high school world. Um.
- 11:14Speaker 1: And I kind of love that about the show because
- 11:16Speaker 1: just because they kind of sell me on it. The
- 11:18Speaker 1: performances are are great and the cinema, the cinema is
- 11:23Speaker 1: so fun. I am very excited to keep watching tbh. UM,
- 11:28Speaker 1: I don't know if I can stay the same for
- 11:29Speaker 1: and just like that. Um, last week's episode was I
- 11:35Speaker 1: felt kind of like filler to me, the filler queen,
- 11:39Speaker 1: you know Carrie, Like, how much money does carry have?
- 11:44Speaker 1: That's I was her net worth. It's It's so funny
- 11:49Speaker 1: because from episode one to like episode three to like now,
- 11:53Speaker 1: we've had multiple iterations of like, wait, how riches carry?
- 11:58Speaker 1: Like like every time it's actually more I really want
- 12:01Speaker 1: to know. I want to see her bank statements, like
- 12:03Speaker 1: I want to see her tox return. I guess I
- 12:06Speaker 1: did post this question to some friends and also on Twitter,
- 12:09Speaker 1: and people were saying, like maybe she had like a
- 12:12Speaker 1: couple million on her own from her books. Maybe one
- 12:15Speaker 1: of her books, was like a bestseller and was optioned
- 12:19Speaker 1: for like, you know, an indie movie. So she's got
- 12:22Speaker 1: I'm going to say, like pre marrying big or like
- 12:24Speaker 1: on her own, she's got maybe three million, but I
- 12:29Speaker 1: think big considering that in the first episode they say
- 12:34Speaker 1: that he's the next Donald Trump, which l O L
- 12:37Speaker 1: and having the vineyard and NAPA and like the properties.
- 12:41Speaker 1: I'm going to say, if he if he had a
- 12:45Speaker 1: hundred million, Yeah, if he had enough money to just
- 12:48Speaker 1: leave his ex wife a million dollars because he felt bad,
- 12:52Speaker 1: carry was left a hundred million, which is crazy. Yeah,
- 12:57Speaker 1: It's like that is like literally like because she bought
- 13:00Speaker 1: that apartment and then was like nah and then just
- 13:03Speaker 1: like re sold it like she'd got it on the
- 13:05Speaker 1: real reel. This is not shade she was giving you.
- 13:09Speaker 1: You would do that. You would absolutely buy the most
- 13:13Speaker 1: gorgeous luxury apartment and then within a week decide that
- 13:17Speaker 1: you don't want to be there anymore. You would do that,
- 13:19Speaker 1: which is why you maintain that you are a carrier.
- 13:22Speaker 1: And that is absolutely true, and it is what I
- 13:24Speaker 1: texted a friend. I said, very very me, I will say, um,
- 13:31Speaker 1: her problems feels so like feudal when she has so
- 13:35Speaker 1: much more wealth than what we've seen in the kind
- 13:37Speaker 1: of the rest of Sex in the City as a series,
- 13:39Speaker 1: Like it's almost distracting the level of wealth where now
- 13:43Speaker 1: bearing witness to. But I'm not mad at it, Like
- 13:45Speaker 1: I like that aspirational quality. Um. But I I'm curious
- 13:49Speaker 1: to see what they're gonna do with Biggs ashes now
- 13:51Speaker 1: that all the Christnath stuff has come out, because apparently
- 13:55Speaker 1: they filmed in Paris, Like Carrie was supposed to like
- 13:57Speaker 1: spread the ashes, big ashes in Paris, which is so
- 14:00Speaker 1: freaking stupid, Like what is that? What is the kind
- 14:02Speaker 1: of the importance of Paris? I guess, like because that's
- 14:06Speaker 1: where they ultimately got back together in the finale. What
- 14:10Speaker 1: oh right? The Bridge? Um, but I think New York
- 14:13Speaker 1: is more important for them. I was gonna say, if
- 14:17Speaker 1: if she really wanted to, you know, be be true
- 14:19Speaker 1: to Big Spirit, she would be scattering his ashes at
- 14:21Speaker 1: at the Financial District, just like on the Cobblestones. Yeah,
- 14:28Speaker 1: the Five Eyebrows getting their dig in bring Murray Hill, Yeah,
- 14:33Speaker 1: something like that. Um. I also have to talk about
- 14:37Speaker 1: I can't decide if it was if it was funny
- 14:40Speaker 1: or if if I was horrified, but Carrie and her
- 14:43Speaker 1: cultural appreciation of um Seema's kind of like do Wally
- 14:49Speaker 1: a traditional DESI garb that line that they wrote for
- 14:53Speaker 1: Sema to say, I just you know, listen, I'm I'm white.
- 14:57Speaker 1: I really can't make these decisions. But also I know, um.
- 15:03Speaker 1: But at the same time, like I think even I
- 15:06Speaker 1: knew that that was like a little you know, I um.
- 15:11Speaker 1: There are a lot of things about the show that
- 15:14Speaker 1: I think are really disappointing on the kind of diversity
- 15:17Speaker 1: and inclusion level of which I'm actually writing about right now.
- 15:21Speaker 1: But I just feel like that that joke in particular
- 15:27Speaker 1: was unfortunately actually funny. But it was funny because I
- 15:32Speaker 1: know how wrong it is, and it's upsetting to think
- 15:35Speaker 1: about the white people in the middle of the country
- 15:38Speaker 1: that will hear this joke about you know, it's okay
- 15:42Speaker 1: to culturally appreciate something and then think that they can
- 15:44Speaker 1: legitimately just like we're sorries out on the town. Is
- 15:49Speaker 1: a joke to me? Is like just that's why, Yeah,
- 15:55Speaker 1: that's why. It's kind of bizarre. There's obviously this um
- 15:59Speaker 1: work ring thing where every person of color in this
- 16:02Speaker 1: show is attached to a white counterpart that they are
- 16:06Speaker 1: fixing in some way, you know, like she is fixing
- 16:09Speaker 1: Miranda's midlife crisis. Nia is like acquiescing all of Miranda's
- 16:13Speaker 1: like microaggressions and like kind of trying to like Pep talker.
- 16:17Speaker 1: And then she's you know, they're their friends now. And
- 16:20Speaker 1: we have LTW, who is just like has doesn't have
- 16:23Speaker 1: a ton of like personality traits outside of being referred
- 16:26Speaker 1: to as like black Charlotte, you know what I mean. Anyways, Still,
- 16:29Speaker 1: how many episodes do we have left? Even? I have
- 16:31Speaker 1: no idea, but I do know that there's only one
- 16:34Speaker 1: episode of Yellow Jackets left. You're not I haven't even
- 16:40Speaker 1: watched episode two. I'm a friend. I'll watch it. I'll
- 16:43Speaker 1: watch it. I'll watch I will, I will. You have
- 16:45Speaker 1: to buy next week because the finale is this Sunday. Okay,
- 16:50Speaker 1: So okay, I'm gonna ask you. You don't like spoilers,
- 16:52Speaker 1: You're gonna have to plug your ears because I just
- 16:55Speaker 1: need to pop off. Okay, quick, couple of theories that
- 16:59Speaker 1: I think are going to be revealed in the finale, Okay,
- 17:02Speaker 1: please please do? Okay? And so I think that Adam,
- 17:06Speaker 1: even though he's dead and like that might make everyone
- 17:09Speaker 1: think like his story his dead ended. I think he's hobby.
- 17:12Speaker 1: I think he's the dead guy's younger brother. I also
- 17:17Speaker 1: think they're going to eat Shawna's baby. I'm not listening,
- 17:20Speaker 1: but I did hear someone's going to eat a baby.
- 17:22Speaker 1: I think they're gonna eat Shahna's baby. I think that's
- 17:24Speaker 1: what gets them into cannibalism. Jackie, I think obviously is
- 17:29Speaker 1: still alive and it's like going to show up at
- 17:31Speaker 1: the reunion. Even though Lottie put on the dear head
- 17:36Speaker 1: dress in this week's episode, I don't think she's the
- 17:40Speaker 1: Dear Queen from the opening of the first episode, I
- 17:44Speaker 1: think like that was like a red herring. I think
- 17:48Speaker 1: maybe it's Shawna and Misty will kill the gay coach.
- 17:53Speaker 1: There's a gay coach. Yeah, there's a gay coach. So
- 17:56Speaker 1: last versions like, if you agree with any of these
- 17:59Speaker 1: theories or have thought about them, tag me if you
- 18:01Speaker 1: have your own theories, would love to hear them. And
- 18:04Speaker 1: I'm so excited that we're getting season two. I mean,
- 18:07Speaker 1: I don't know where it's going to go from here,
- 18:09Speaker 1: but the girls are girls in the show designed with
- 18:12Speaker 1: you in mind. Today we're talking about the seminal iconic
- 18:33Speaker 1: slasher film Scream, just in time for the new Scream Um,
- 18:39Speaker 1: which is just called Scream. It's literally just called Scream.
- 18:42Speaker 1: It's just called the numbers. It's technically Scream five. It's
- 18:45Speaker 1: Scream five. I guess they're like, well, we've already done
- 18:49Speaker 1: so many reboots, so let's just call it Scream. Okay,
- 18:52Speaker 1: what was your first when you first watch this this movie?
- 18:55Speaker 1: Like where? What did you watch it, like in real
- 18:57Speaker 1: time or did you watch it later? Not not real
- 18:59Speaker 1: time because I was eight, so he was like a
- 19:03Speaker 1: little too young, But I definitely watched it as a teenager,
- 19:07Speaker 1: like pretty young, probably middle school eight year old Rose
- 19:09Speaker 1: watching it is not that far off base, though you
- 19:12Speaker 1: would as an eight year old. You Know what I
- 19:13Speaker 1: think could be true though, is I may have watched
- 19:16Speaker 1: Scary movie first and then wondered what it was making
- 19:23Speaker 1: fun of and gone back and watched Scream. Okay, that
- 19:26Speaker 1: actually tracks that would that would want me, that would
- 19:29Speaker 1: bring me to the source material, to which I mean, like,
- 19:32Speaker 1: doesn't make sense because how do you watch scary movie
- 19:35Speaker 1: without the context of having watched Scream? But Scary movie
- 19:37Speaker 1: is incredible, so I guess you can enjoy it either way.
- 19:40Speaker 1: I famously don't love like I don't love like um
- 19:44Speaker 1: like bro comedies, you know what I mean? Like, I
- 19:46Speaker 1: feel like scary movies kind of like a absurdy kind
- 19:50Speaker 1: of bro e. I wouldn't call it a bro comedy.
- 19:53Speaker 1: I mean it has on a Ferrist and Regina Hall.
- 19:58Speaker 1: I mean it's a way his Brothers movie. But it
- 20:01Speaker 1: did start the trend of parody film. So like there
- 20:08Speaker 1: were obviously all the scary movie movies, and then there
- 20:11Speaker 1: was like a disaster movie. There was a movie that
- 20:15Speaker 1: was a kind of Twilight parody. Not another teen movie
- 20:19Speaker 1: was I actually think not another team movie is great,
- 20:23Speaker 1: and that's the film that gave us Chris Evans. You said,
- 20:26Speaker 1: Wayne brother I feel like maybe on principle, I don't
- 20:29Speaker 1: watch anything wherein the producers are like blank brothers like
- 20:34Speaker 1: Wayne's brothers. What about the film's studio Warner Brothers, the movies. No, No,
- 20:39Speaker 1: I'm talking about like the Coen brothers, Like they should
- 20:41Speaker 1: all be replaced at the witch House. The witch HOUSEKEI
- 20:43Speaker 1: sisters should just do everything they should do. Not another
- 20:46Speaker 1: team movie, no comment. Well, let's let's take it back
- 20:50Speaker 1: to Scream you watched Scream for the first time recently,
- 20:54Speaker 1: literally last week upon this recording, Um, what did you think?
- 20:59Speaker 1: I okay, okay, it either might chock you or won't
- 21:02Speaker 1: shock you at all. That since that this movie has
- 21:06Speaker 1: come out twenty five years ago, it has never ever
- 21:09Speaker 1: been spoiled to me that Drew Barrymoret dies in the
- 21:12Speaker 1: first twelve minutes. I had no idea. How is that possible?
- 21:16Speaker 1: I have no idea? And did you? How did you
- 21:19Speaker 1: not immediately clock that when she was the first person
- 21:21Speaker 1: to appear in the movie she was going to immediately die.
- 21:23Speaker 1: I thought that, Okay, I kind of knew she was
- 21:26Speaker 1: gonna die because people I was watching it with a
- 21:28Speaker 1: group that we're all like Scream fanatics, and so they
- 21:30Speaker 1: were alluding to the fact that she was going to die.
- 21:32Speaker 1: So it was ruined for me kind of like in
- 21:34Speaker 1: real time, but like literally before the movie started. Had
- 21:38Speaker 1: no idea, and I honestly didn't even remember that she
- 21:40Speaker 1: was like in it, but I remember obviously the image
- 21:43Speaker 1: of her holding the phone is like iconic to me,
- 21:45Speaker 1: But I think maybe mentally actually didn't know what movie
- 21:47Speaker 1: that even came from. You can't be precious about spoilers
- 21:51Speaker 1: for a movie that came out twenty five years ago.
- 21:53Speaker 1: No, no no, no, I'm not at all. I'm saying I'm
- 21:56Speaker 1: shocked that it was never spoiled. To me, honestly, UM,
- 21:59Speaker 1: maybe that's a testament to, um, how much I am
- 22:02Speaker 1: in a cultural vacuum sometimes that I had no idea. Um,
- 22:06Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean I loved it. I think that
- 22:08Speaker 1: Drew Barrymore deserves to ask her. I think that she
- 22:12Speaker 1: gave the best performance of her life and that that
- 22:14Speaker 1: was like there was it was like truly flawless, and
- 22:16Speaker 1: I love learning after that. Um, when they went out
- 22:19Speaker 1: to Drew, they wanted her to be the main character,
- 22:22Speaker 1: and she read the script and was like, no, no, no,
- 22:25Speaker 1: this first girl is it? And I don't know, maybe
- 22:28Speaker 1: it was like do you think it's like a managerial
- 22:30Speaker 1: thing about She didn't want to be like shoveled into. No.
- 22:32Speaker 1: I bet she, Well, she was Drew Barrymore. So I'm
- 22:35Speaker 1: sure she said, let me do like one day on
- 22:39Speaker 1: this movie and that's it. Yeah, you know, because you know,
- 22:44Speaker 1: shooting at night, I'm sure it's really annoying. So you know,
- 22:46Speaker 1: she did like she did two days on set, Max
- 22:50Speaker 1: and she was out and she's iconic forever because of it,
- 22:52Speaker 1: so she didn't need to do more. I actually think, well,
- 22:56Speaker 1: let me not say that Drew Barrymore is more iconically
- 22:59Speaker 1: associated with Screen then Nev Campbell, because like then I
- 23:01Speaker 1: will have a lot of angry people, but just at
- 23:05Speaker 1: your door with pitchfork. But I definitely, when you think
- 23:08Speaker 1: about Scream, like when you think about its cultural legacy,
- 23:12Speaker 1: even though she is even though she does not survive
- 23:15Speaker 1: the first ten minutes of the movie, Drew Barrymore is
- 23:18Speaker 1: one of the people who was always forever associated with
- 23:21Speaker 1: the film and the franchise. Just the image of her,
- 23:24Speaker 1: honestly is Scream to me. Something I have to say.
- 23:27Speaker 1: It's when I was watching the movie, I was obviously stoned,
- 23:30Speaker 1: and I kept I kept calling um the murder. I
- 23:35Speaker 1: can't remember the murder's name, but I kept calling it
- 23:37Speaker 1: ghost Face. That's their name, ghost Face, their name. I
- 23:41Speaker 1: kept calling them Scream. I was like, I was like, oh, no,
- 23:46Speaker 1: Scream is coming, and they were like, his name is
- 23:49Speaker 1: not Scream. I'm sorry, their name is not Scream. And
- 23:52Speaker 1: you know, I not to take us on a tangent,
- 23:55Speaker 1: but I wouldn't say this is Drew Barrymore's best performance.
- 23:58Speaker 1: You will know what my favorite Drew Barrymore performances ever After? Yes,
- 24:05Speaker 1: that because I am your best friend. Yes, I love
- 24:10Speaker 1: ever After, even though Drew Barrymore does a horrible accent
- 24:13Speaker 1: in it. Um, but it's amazing. Angela Houston is so good.
- 24:17Speaker 1: What's your favorite Drew Barrymore performance. I actually had never
- 24:21Speaker 1: really seen a Drew Barrymore performance until a few years
- 24:25Speaker 1: ago when a Drew Barrymore fanatic who I was also
- 24:28Speaker 1: sleeping with, cracked me into like all of her movies,
- 24:30Speaker 1: and we watched ever After, We watched all of the
- 24:33Speaker 1: Charlie's Angels, we watched Never Been Kissed. Um, and I think,
- 24:37Speaker 1: I mean, to me, Charlie's Angels, maybe her and Charlie's
- 24:41Speaker 1: Angels too. Honestly, is so canonically Drew, and I think
- 24:47Speaker 1: that there's a piece of that character in every character
- 24:50Speaker 1: she plays. You know what I mean? Well, before she
- 24:52Speaker 1: has any character she plays, she is Drew Barrymore. Of course. Um.
- 24:56Speaker 1: One of her performances that I actually really love that
- 25:00Speaker 1: she might have won an award for. She did the
- 25:02Speaker 1: Great Gardens Movie with Jessica Lang. Um. There was an
- 25:05Speaker 1: HBO film that's based on you know, the documentary, and
- 25:10Speaker 1: she's so good in it as little Eady. I've literally
- 25:13Speaker 1: never seen it. Well Trueiform will do an episode on it,
- 25:18Speaker 1: you know, at some point in the future. Okay, Scream.
- 25:24Speaker 1: One of the reasons why I love Scream is because
- 25:26Speaker 1: it's this meta movie. It's a horror movie that's about
- 25:31Speaker 1: horror movies, which I did not realize because when I
- 25:34Speaker 1: first got into it, I was like, oh, this is
- 25:36Speaker 1: a straightforward slasher. But yeah, the the you know, the
- 25:40Speaker 1: nerdy character like the film nerd spends the whole movie
- 25:44Speaker 1: talking about the rules of horror movies and that is
- 25:48Speaker 1: what the whole franchise is built around. And even the
- 25:51Speaker 1: killers who were unmasked eventually revealed that they've been using
- 25:56Speaker 1: the archetypes of horror movies, you know, like the virgin
- 26:00Speaker 1: and then the slut and like the all of those
- 26:03Speaker 1: to build their narrative. I feel like there, I think
- 26:07Speaker 1: I just didn't expect the movie to be as like
- 26:10Speaker 1: deep as it was. I don't know if deep is
- 26:12Speaker 1: like the right word, but like it's definitely smart for
- 26:14Speaker 1: us a nineties teen slasher movie, yeah exactly. I think
- 26:19Speaker 1: I just wasn't expected like any other, like you know,
- 26:21Speaker 1: horror skeptics out there like me, or people that think
- 26:24Speaker 1: like a movie like Scream is not for you, which
- 26:25Speaker 1: is kind of like where I was at, Like it
- 26:27Speaker 1: really like I came away from the movie being like
- 26:29Speaker 1: I actually have like a shifted perspective on the genre,
- 26:33Speaker 1: like on horror movies because of the commentary within the film,
- 26:36Speaker 1: Like I just thought it was very smart. Um, like
- 26:39Speaker 1: I just left. I mean them talking about the final
- 26:41Speaker 1: girl and them talking about like the motivation of a killer,
- 26:45Speaker 1: and like there were so many just different components of
- 26:47Speaker 1: it where I was like, Oh, this is amazing. Who
- 26:50Speaker 1: do you have a favorite final girl in general? Out
- 26:54Speaker 1: of all horror movies? I mean, um, maybe this is
- 26:57Speaker 1: too obvious, but in House of Wax, Harris Hilton does
- 27:01Speaker 1: die in Sexy Laundree after getting her achules tendants sliced. Well,
- 27:05Speaker 1: then she's not a final girl because she doesn't survive. Well, oh, oh,
- 27:09Speaker 1: is the final girl archetypes someone who the final girl
- 27:12Speaker 1: is the girl who? Okay, and the real answer is
- 27:15Speaker 1: my favorite final girl is Kyle Richards in Real Housewives
- 27:18Speaker 1: of Beverly Hills as the last one standing in the
- 27:20Speaker 1: horror that is that franchise. That is a really good answer.
- 27:23Speaker 1: Kyle Richards, Who's you know? Made her comeback in Halloween
- 27:27Speaker 1: Kills the movie we have not seen because we heard
- 27:30Speaker 1: it was bad, but we might have by the time
- 27:33Speaker 1: this episode comes out. I guess in the pantheon a
- 27:38Speaker 1: final girls, like you know, Jamie Lee Curtis is, She's it.
- 27:42Speaker 1: She is the blueprint for all these other hos. Trauma.
- 27:46Speaker 1: It's a movie. It's a film about trauma, trauma, trauma, trauma, trauma. Um. Yeah,
- 27:52Speaker 1: she should be in every horror movie. Though. I think
- 27:55Speaker 1: Jamie Lee Curtis should be in most films, and she
- 28:00Speaker 1: is in most films. She low key is and she's
- 28:05Speaker 1: in a lot of yo play commercials. Oh no, what's
- 28:08Speaker 1: the yogurt? Because it's because it's good for your digestion,
- 28:13Speaker 1: it's good for your bones, it's good for your bones
- 28:16Speaker 1: and for people like Jamie Lee Curtis. So if you
- 28:18Speaker 1: relate to Jamie Lee Curtis, you'll love this yogurt anyways. Um, so,
- 28:25Speaker 1: I don't know what you're like first horror movie was,
- 28:27Speaker 1: but like I was super duper scared of all horror
- 28:30Speaker 1: movies growing up. Um, because when you are super duper Christian.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Anything in the horror genre is like brew Headia. It's
- 28:38Speaker 1: like the Devil. It's like something that's super forbidden or
- 28:41Speaker 1: dark or like linked to like a dark spirit, like
- 28:44Speaker 1: literally not joking, that's like the framework within like my
- 28:46Speaker 1: family was functioning. So the first I didn't see a
- 28:49Speaker 1: scary movie until I was like sixteen, like fifteen sixteen,
- 28:54Speaker 1: like I was older, and all my friends by then
- 28:56Speaker 1: had seen one, and I had a friend who was
- 28:58Speaker 1: obsessed with horror movies. My best friend in fourth grade,
- 29:03Speaker 1: Katie bid Strip. You were low key a bully to
- 29:06Speaker 1: me but also my best friend, and you were coming
- 29:08Speaker 1: for you. Katie a part of a long lineage of
- 29:11Speaker 1: best friends who eventually become my bullies. And anyways, that
- 29:15Speaker 1: felt that felt pointed. I don't know what you're talking about, um,
- 29:19Speaker 1: And she like basically taped my eyes open and made
- 29:21Speaker 1: me watch the entire Saw franchise. So are you the
- 29:25Speaker 1: kind of person who during a scary movie you cover
- 29:28Speaker 1: your eyes or Okay, I get that. I used to
- 29:32Speaker 1: be like that. What I would do when I used
- 29:34Speaker 1: to watch like are you afraid of the dark? When
- 29:36Speaker 1: I was a kid, is I would kind of go
- 29:39Speaker 1: to the door of my room and stand there and
- 29:42Speaker 1: be kind of half in, half out, so that I could,
- 29:44Speaker 1: you know, duck out during a really scary part. There's
- 29:47Speaker 1: this one episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark
- 29:49Speaker 1: where there's this jester who's like in a comic book
- 29:53Speaker 1: and he is blue drool, and it's so scary. I'm
- 29:56Speaker 1: so I'm just like really triggered by what you just
- 29:58Speaker 1: said because you just made me think of Goose Bumps
- 30:01Speaker 1: and how that terrorized Goose. It's the scariest thing I've
- 30:05Speaker 1: ever watched. I was a child. I was a child,
- 30:09Speaker 1: and I had bully neighbors. There are a lot of
- 30:11Speaker 1: themes going on at this podcast. Can you detect them? Um?
- 30:14Speaker 1: I had neighbors that lived in my cul deest act.
- 30:16Speaker 1: There was six and seven, six or seven of them,
- 30:17Speaker 1: and they all like knew I was a fag and
- 30:20Speaker 1: like made me, you know, their immediate victim. And one
- 30:23Speaker 1: of them had that really scary mask from the first
- 30:27Speaker 1: Goose Bumps the Haunted Masks episode, the Haunted mask, and
- 30:31Speaker 1: chased me down the street wearing it like like five
- 30:35Speaker 1: five or six blocks until I ran hunt. That is
- 30:38Speaker 1: pretty traumatic. Was well, once you started watching scary movies?
- 30:42Speaker 1: Did you gain an appreciation for horror? Do you do
- 30:46Speaker 1: you like the action of do you like being afraid
- 30:48Speaker 1: when you're in general? Rightfully, after Sawgate, after my best
- 30:53Speaker 1: friend Slash Greatest Bully tortured me and made me watch
- 30:56Speaker 1: all the song movies, I took a long break, and
- 30:59Speaker 1: then when everyone started talking about get Out, I was like, Okay,
- 31:06Speaker 1: I will go and see that movie. I may be
- 31:08Speaker 1: seen a few horror movies in between, but get Out
- 31:12Speaker 1: was the first horror movie I willingly watched, and I
- 31:15Speaker 1: went to the theater alone to go and see it
- 31:17Speaker 1: because I was just really invested in like the story
- 31:20Speaker 1: it was going to tell. And even though like I
- 31:22Speaker 1: I personally feel like and maybe horror purists will say,
- 31:25Speaker 1: it's like, it's not a horror, it's like more of
- 31:26Speaker 1: a psychological thriller that has like a little horror, But
- 31:31Speaker 1: I just was so enraptured by the movie for obvious reasons,
- 31:37Speaker 1: but also just the fact that it had deconstructed what
- 31:40Speaker 1: I thought a horror movie could be. Because I had
- 31:43Speaker 1: that kind of like stigma that like a lot of people,
- 31:46Speaker 1: you know, think, which is that horror movies are all
- 31:48Speaker 1: sensationalism and don't have any like depth at all. Well,
- 31:51Speaker 1: we're in a kind of golden age of horror right
- 31:54Speaker 1: now where horror is like very elevated, um, and we
- 31:57Speaker 1: just think about horror movies differently. They still don't at
- 32:00Speaker 1: the same kind of credit as other types of films. Um.
- 32:05Speaker 1: And I think that's something that Scream like Relish is in,
- 32:10Speaker 1: Like it is not apologizing for being a horror movie
- 32:13Speaker 1: or a slasher movie. It's very gleeful about it, and
- 32:16Speaker 1: I think that's why it's so entertaining. I also love,
- 32:20Speaker 1: you know, the Killers, Like they're very clearly like a
- 32:23Speaker 1: gay couple. They are they so are they? There's that
- 32:27Speaker 1: one image of them like standing together that always like
- 32:30Speaker 1: makes the rounds on Twitter about them like being together.
- 32:34Speaker 1: I'm sure there's fan fiction about them, and I might
- 32:37Speaker 1: go actually look them up after we're finished recording today.
- 32:40Speaker 1: They look like a very specific kind of gay couple.
- 32:43Speaker 1: Like they look like they just they're looking for a
- 32:45Speaker 1: third Yeah, a third at Spectrum Yeah no not not
- 32:48Speaker 1: Holy Mountain. No. I think they're a little dirty three
- 32:51Speaker 1: dollar bill, three dollar bill, yeah, dollar bill or like
- 32:54Speaker 1: maybe mood ring and yeah, yeah, mood ring okay, okay, okay,
- 32:58Speaker 1: um have So now that you've watch Scream, will you
- 33:01Speaker 1: be going and watching any of the sequels? Okay? So
- 33:05Speaker 1: I did, in fact fall asleep to Scream too and
- 33:09Speaker 1: Scream three. So Scream two is Sydneys in college, right,
- 33:14Speaker 1: and there's like a play that she's in, I believe. Well,
- 33:17Speaker 1: it's pretty much every sequel contains a parodied version of
- 33:22Speaker 1: Scream well, right, because then they start making the movies,
- 33:26Speaker 1: which the Stab series and Scream three is much more
- 33:30Speaker 1: about that. Scream three also has Parker Posey, who is amazing.
- 33:35Speaker 1: And so if you haven't watched any of these, the
- 33:37Speaker 1: gist is there's a movie within a movie, or rather
- 33:40Speaker 1: a franchise within a franchise, and the one within is
- 33:43Speaker 1: called Stab and like Stab two, Stab three, which doesn't
- 33:47Speaker 1: have the same kind of ring to it that Scream does,
- 33:49Speaker 1: but it's really funny, like it's just things like that.
- 33:51Speaker 1: It's just it's such a there's such succinct punchlines. And
- 33:56Speaker 1: I was reading that um when spoiler alert, Jada pinkeets
- 34:00Speaker 1: Smith dies in the beginning that she told the director
- 34:03Speaker 1: that she wanted to have the most gruesome death in
- 34:06Speaker 1: the history of horror movies like she said that, like
- 34:09Speaker 1: to the director. Good for her. Honestly, it wasn't that gruesome.
- 34:13Speaker 1: The movies do get increasingly meta as they go on.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Scream Scream For has Emma Roberts in it, and spoiler alert,
- 34:23Speaker 1: she's well, she's Sydney's cousin, and you find out, like
- 34:27Speaker 1: towards the end of the movie that she is one
- 34:30Speaker 1: of the killers and she's been engineering this whole thing
- 34:34Speaker 1: to make herself into a victim so that she can
- 34:37Speaker 1: be as famous as Sydney Prescott. But you know, obviously
- 34:41Speaker 1: she fails at the end. And I actually think it's
- 34:43Speaker 1: one of the best of the screams um And also
- 34:48Speaker 1: Hayden Penny Tier isn't it And she has a very
- 34:50Speaker 1: gay haircut. And I don't understand why her character in
- 34:54Speaker 1: the movie isn't her name's Kirby. I don't get why
- 34:57Speaker 1: she's Kirby is such a lesbian. Get why she's not
- 35:00Speaker 1: just gay? She should play gay in general? Like Hidden Penetier,
- 35:05Speaker 1: I absolutely would stand. Okay, I think that the question
- 35:08Speaker 1: on the tip of all of our virgins, like tongues
- 35:11Speaker 1: is um. It was screamed for the one where Gail
- 35:14Speaker 1: Weather's debuted her turf Bangs. No, that was Scream three
- 35:19Speaker 1: is when turf Bangs became a thing. Wow? Was she
- 35:22Speaker 1: also like holding a copy of like um, a Robert
- 35:24Speaker 1: Gale Braith novel. Nev Campbell did kind of set herself
- 35:30Speaker 1: up as a Scream queen by starring in this movie.
- 35:34Speaker 1: I think this was before The Craft, which also iconic. Well,
- 35:40Speaker 1: also you made me watch Yeah, well, no, we didn't
- 35:42Speaker 1: watch The Craft. We watched to the sequel to The Craft.
- 35:45Speaker 1: No we didn't. Yeah, we did the one that came
- 35:48Speaker 1: out last year, but you have you have still never
- 35:51Speaker 1: seen the original Craft movie. Oh my god, and the
- 35:56Speaker 1: Craft and the Craft two is bad. Yeah, the reboot
- 36:00Speaker 1: was really bad, and I mean yeah, I really wanted
- 36:03Speaker 1: to like it because of the trans character. Yeah there's
- 36:06Speaker 1: a trans character, but she was. We love her. But
- 36:10Speaker 1: it's not a good movie. It's not a good movie
- 36:12Speaker 1: and it will never be. It's no one will ever
- 36:16Speaker 1: be for a balk. You better take some notes from
- 36:20Speaker 1: the real rebootmakers, like um The Witches starring and hat
- 36:24Speaker 1: Away Rose damnus favorite movie. It's not a favorite favorite,
- 36:29Speaker 1: but it is. I do enjoy it a lot. In
- 36:44Speaker 1: we can't talk about Scream without answering the question that
- 36:50Speaker 1: ghost Face poses. What's your favorite scary movie? Like scary movies? Um,
- 36:58Speaker 1: what is your favorite scary movie? Friends? I don't know
- 37:00Speaker 1: if I am if I've consumed enough horror to like
- 37:04Speaker 1: maybe have a favorite. Um, but I will remember Hereditary
- 37:09Speaker 1: until I die. And And but the thing is, and
- 37:12Speaker 1: I think this is like similar to maybe not your answer,
- 37:14Speaker 1: but I think a lot of people I know I
- 37:16Speaker 1: have a similar experience of like, I'm not sure I'm
- 37:19Speaker 1: going to remember it because I like loved watching it.
- 37:22Speaker 1: I think I'm gonna remember it because I was traumatized
- 37:25Speaker 1: all the way through. But I do think that there's
- 37:27Speaker 1: something like the fact that I was so like kind
- 37:29Speaker 1: of viscerally shaken. It's just a testament how well it
- 37:32Speaker 1: was done. My old apartment in New York had very
- 37:35Speaker 1: tall ceilings, and after seeing Hereditary, I always thought that
- 37:39Speaker 1: Tony Collette was up there hovering on the ceiling. It's
- 37:44Speaker 1: an image that will never leave me, that her like swimming.
- 37:51Speaker 1: You know, now when I watch horror movies, I can
- 37:53Speaker 1: watch them and and kind of make myself less scared
- 37:58Speaker 1: and be take myself out of it and say, like
- 38:02Speaker 1: that's just an actor, you know whatever. Um, but not
- 38:05Speaker 1: with Hereditary. Not with Hereditary. But it's not not my
- 38:07Speaker 1: I wouldn't say it's my favorite scary movie. My favorite
- 38:10Speaker 1: scary movie is definitely The Shining. It's one of my
- 38:13Speaker 1: favorite films. Haven't yet And actually, during the beginning of
- 38:19Speaker 1: the pandemic, when we were really in lockdown, I decided
- 38:23Speaker 1: it was a good time to finally read The Shining,
- 38:26Speaker 1: which is literally about people being locked inside a hotel.
- 38:28Speaker 1: I don't know why I did that to myself. Um,
- 38:31Speaker 1: the book is a lot different than the film, and
- 38:34Speaker 1: I actually really enjoyed it and it kind of enriched
- 38:36Speaker 1: my experience of the movie. And um, there's also no
- 38:40Speaker 1: a sequel film to it, Doctor Sleep, which is based
- 38:43Speaker 1: on the sequel that Stephen King wrote. And Stephen King
- 38:46Speaker 1: famously like doesn't like The Shining movie because, yeah, because
- 38:50Speaker 1: it's very different than the book. And I think he
- 38:53Speaker 1: said something along the lines of, you know, it's a
- 38:56Speaker 1: great art film, but it's not really like a great
- 38:59Speaker 1: adaptation of the book. And I think that's true to
- 39:03Speaker 1: a point because The Shining is so beautiful, um, and
- 39:07Speaker 1: the book is like a lot more layered, you know,
- 39:09Speaker 1: most books are when you talk about movie adaptations, but
- 39:12Speaker 1: Dr Sleep does a really good job of going of
- 39:16Speaker 1: minding what happens in the Shining novel and merging it
- 39:21Speaker 1: with the movie adaptation in a really beautiful way. Um.
- 39:25Speaker 1: And I also love Rebecca Ferguson, who plays the villain
- 39:28Speaker 1: in the movie. Um. I have never seen The Shining,
- 39:31Speaker 1: as I said, UM, but I'm not much for like
- 39:34Speaker 1: a Jack Nicholson vehicle. But maybe, I mean, maybe that's
- 39:37Speaker 1: for shallow reasons because he just always plays like you.
- 39:39Speaker 1: But what about Oh, she's amazing, you need to watch
- 39:43Speaker 1: The Shining. Um. I also have to say with Stephen
- 39:45Speaker 1: King's books, love love the guy. Well, actually we don't.
- 39:48Speaker 1: Didn't wasn't he the person on Twitter that like basically
- 39:51Speaker 1: said that like white privilege doesn't exist or something like that.
- 39:53Speaker 1: You know, Stephen King is actually the first adult novel
- 39:58Speaker 1: I ever read was carry I was at the library
- 40:03Speaker 1: when I was in I want to say fourth grade,
- 40:07Speaker 1: and I saw Carrie on the shelf and I think
- 40:11Speaker 1: maybe liked the book cover and picked it up and
- 40:14Speaker 1: read it at far too young of an age. Was
- 40:17Speaker 1: very impressionable, so much about you, and it did really
- 40:21Speaker 1: set the scene I love. I love the Carry film,
- 40:24Speaker 1: the Brian to Palma film. Did you like the reboot
- 40:27Speaker 1: with Cloud? Grace Marts never seen it and Julianne Moore
- 40:30Speaker 1: never seen it. It was honestly not terrible. What I
- 40:33Speaker 1: did not like is the Rage Carry Too, which came
- 40:35Speaker 1: out in the early two thousands, and there's one scene
- 40:39Speaker 1: in which the um, the girl, the main character who
- 40:43Speaker 1: is like the Carry character, kills people by having making
- 40:47Speaker 1: CDs fly at them and cut them with her mind.
- 40:50Speaker 1: What yeah, that's I mean, I still kind of want
- 40:54Speaker 1: to watch it. That sounds camp. A recent horror movie
- 40:57Speaker 1: that has become one of my favorite movies definitely is
- 41:00Speaker 1: in now. I would say my top ten favorite films
- 41:04Speaker 1: is Suspiria two, the remake of the of the like
- 41:12Speaker 1: iconic horror film um and I just I love it
- 41:17Speaker 1: so much, A film I had to turn off at.
- 41:21Speaker 1: You know the part that you probably know what I'm
- 41:23Speaker 1: talking about. It's a very disgusting. Oh the scene we're
- 41:25Speaker 1: within the dance studio where she gets torn up. Watch
- 41:30Speaker 1: Dakoda Johnson. Oh my god, Dacoda Johnson isn't that movie?
- 41:35Speaker 1: And she looks Dakoda Johnson until the Swinton. Also Chloe
- 41:39Speaker 1: Grace Martze's in it. Oh, of course. One question I
- 41:42Speaker 1: have to bring this all back is why is Scream
- 41:46Speaker 1: five or Scream Screme? Why is it coming out in
- 41:50Speaker 1: January because it's a winter movie. Maybe they're trying to
- 41:54Speaker 1: get into that shining slot because the Shining is not
- 41:56Speaker 1: like a Halloween movie. It's like a winter movie. Yeah,
- 41:59Speaker 1: but I you usually do watch it during Halloween season. Really,
- 42:02Speaker 1: but I actually guess I would feel comfortable watching it
- 42:05Speaker 1: like kind of any time. Maybe, right, it's Chile in January,
- 42:08Speaker 1: in January, I will watch the Shining. Yeah, that's it.
- 42:15Speaker 1: What about Scream other than Drew Barrymore is Bob makes
- 42:20Speaker 1: it like a kind of gay cult classic because it's
- 42:24Speaker 1: it's camp. It's just pure. It's pure camp it is,
- 42:27Speaker 1: and camp that is and it's self aware exactly, you know,
- 42:31Speaker 1: as they say, or as the definition of camp goes.
- 42:34Speaker 1: The two definitions of camp are in like camp in
- 42:37Speaker 1: its purest form where it doesn't know it's camp, like
- 42:40Speaker 1: Mommy Dearest or Um or Judy Garland. And then camp
- 42:44Speaker 1: that is highly aware of itself, like that like Scream
- 42:47Speaker 1: or RuPaul people bleep, not the which actually makes sense
- 42:53Speaker 1: that Scream is camp because when I almost went to
- 42:58Speaker 1: the camp met Gala, I was thinking of going as
- 43:02Speaker 1: Gail Weathers from Scream in her lime green skirt suit,
- 43:08Speaker 1: which would have been so good. It would have been
- 43:11Speaker 1: so good. But I don't know if people would have
- 43:13Speaker 1: like automatically gotten the reference they don't need to, because
- 43:16Speaker 1: I think it would have been kind of immediately like
- 43:18Speaker 1: they don't need to. They would have just been like,
- 43:19Speaker 1: who's that bitch in the lime green skirt with the
- 43:22Speaker 1: turf banks, with the turf banks on like a comically
- 43:25Speaker 1: big microphone, comically big. I I do love how I
- 43:30Speaker 1: see myself in Gail Weathers in that um. She will
- 43:33Speaker 1: celebrate herself at all costs totally, and she is extremely
- 43:37Speaker 1: callous and all she's trying to do is get that story,
- 43:40Speaker 1: that story, even if she has to fabric kate it.
- 43:44Speaker 1: I love in Scary Movie, the Gail Weather's characters played
- 43:48Speaker 1: by Ryo Terry from Saturday Night Live, and there's one
- 43:53Speaker 1: scene at the beginning where she is reporting live in
- 43:57Speaker 1: front of the school and says, you know, there there's
- 43:59Speaker 1: a like rampage that's left four teens dead, and uh,
- 44:03Speaker 1: like teenager tried starts bothering her, and she just pulls
- 44:05Speaker 1: a gun out and shoots him and turns back to
- 44:07Speaker 1: the camera. Goes five teams dead. No, so good. You
- 44:11Speaker 1: have to watch scary movie. I probably want. I'm not
- 44:14Speaker 1: gonna lie, but so funny. What I want to know
- 44:17Speaker 1: is what news site do you think Gale Withers would
- 44:20Speaker 1: write for? In Huffington Post period down. The Huffington Post
- 44:25Speaker 1: doesn't have a video budget. First of all, um, the Federalist.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Oh no, well, what's the one? It's not Newsweek, it's um,
- 44:34Speaker 1: the New York Post. No, no, the New York Post.
- 44:37Speaker 1: Actually yeah, or like the Daily Beast, The Times, the
- 44:41Speaker 1: Daily Atlantic. It's Michael barbar Do you want to know
- 44:46Speaker 1: do you want to hear my Michael Barbaro impression? I
- 44:48Speaker 1: don't actually know who that is. Michael Barbarro is the
- 44:51Speaker 1: host of The Daily. Oh I forgot that. You famously
- 44:53Speaker 1: have never listened to a podcast, not even this one.
- 44:56Speaker 1: So everyone listening to this podcast knows The Daily because
- 44:59Speaker 1: they list into the podcast. And The Daily is the
- 45:01Speaker 1: most famous podcast in the world. It's like the Annointies podcast.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Michael never heard of it, so it can't be that
- 45:06Speaker 1: Famie Michael Barbarrow and this is the Daily. Do you
- 45:11Speaker 1: think that was good? Well, according to your impression, he's no.
- 45:16Speaker 1: Gail Weathers. No, I mean Gail Gail Weathers should host
- 45:19Speaker 1: The Daily, is what we're saying. Have you noticed in
- 45:21Speaker 1: recent years that I think this the ghost face mask
- 45:26Speaker 1: from Scream has been claimed by gay guys as like
- 45:31Speaker 1: something very horny. Yeah, I've watched a lot of Scream
- 45:34Speaker 1: horn there's yeah, there's a lot of porn of people
- 45:37Speaker 1: wearing the Scream mask. I have a friend who has
- 45:39Speaker 1: a tattoo of like a hot naked guy wearing the
- 45:44Speaker 1: ghost face mask with a knife on his thigh. Oh
- 45:46Speaker 1: my god, that's kind of cool. Actually, I the drag
- 45:50Speaker 1: show that I saw that had that, you know, it
- 45:52Speaker 1: was like a Scream tribute show. When they revealed the
- 45:56Speaker 1: final Scream, the final Scream. His name is Son, his
- 46:00Speaker 1: name is Scream. And when they finally revealed screaming like
- 46:03Speaker 1: took first he like disrobed and he was wearing like
- 46:05Speaker 1: a leather jockstrap and then he took off his mask
- 46:08Speaker 1: and it was just like this hot guy with like
- 46:10Speaker 1: blood dripping out of his mouth. And yeah, it was
- 46:12Speaker 1: it was incredible. Ghost face doesn't drink blood. Scream definitely
- 46:16Speaker 1: drinks blood. First of all, yes he does, Segnal. I
- 46:19Speaker 1: also didn't know that Screams Mask wasn't his name. Isn't
- 46:24Speaker 1: realized that Screams Mask wasn't invented by the movie. It
- 46:27Speaker 1: existed before the movie. It was like a generic Halloween costume.
- 46:30Speaker 1: Did you know that? I did not know that. That's crazy.
- 46:34Speaker 1: They took like, do you think that someone else owns
- 46:37Speaker 1: the rights to like Screams Face. No, Scream definitely owns
- 46:41Speaker 1: the right to ghost face. Right, how have you ever
- 46:45Speaker 1: worn a ghost face mask? I actually can't wear a
- 46:49Speaker 1: Halloween mask of any kind because of as we said
- 46:52Speaker 1: at the beginning, ghost bumps in the Haunted Mask, Because
- 46:55Speaker 1: isn't the conceit of that episode just like a child
- 46:58Speaker 1: wears the Haunted Mask and all of a sudden he
- 46:59Speaker 1: became it will like it won't come off a month, Yeah,
- 47:02Speaker 1: it won't come off and he becomes like a psycho
- 47:03Speaker 1: killer or whatever. That is like literally my fear every
- 47:06Speaker 1: time we wear a mask in fact, that it's going
- 47:08Speaker 1: to mold to your face and face and then I
- 47:11Speaker 1: will become a psycho killer. Yes, I'm just that sounds
- 47:14Speaker 1: kind of fun, though, I'm sure it sounds like for you.
- 47:16Speaker 1: Who needs a mask emblematic of this thing that I
- 47:20Speaker 1: experienced When I was seven or eight, My um best
- 47:27Speaker 1: friend let me like hand me down his Darth Vader
- 47:31Speaker 1: costume um that I so I could wear it for Halloween.
- 47:34Speaker 1: And I tried it on and looked in the mirror
- 47:37Speaker 1: and was so scared that I had to take it
- 47:40Speaker 1: off and be something else by Darth Vader. Yeah, it
- 47:43Speaker 1: was really scared of Darth Vader, and like, well, just
- 47:46Speaker 1: know it wasn't actually Darth Vader himself. It was looking
- 47:49Speaker 1: in the mirror and seeing seven year old me as
- 47:52Speaker 1: Darth Vader and being petrified of the monster I had become.
- 48:06Speaker 1: Even though it's not Halloween. What is your best ever
- 48:10Speaker 1: Halloween costume? Uh? Okay, wait, come back to me. What
- 48:15Speaker 1: was yours? Well, famously, I am really bad at Halloween costumes.
- 48:20Speaker 1: I don't like them. I like unless the idea, you know,
- 48:24Speaker 1: strikes me, and even then I just like never execute them. Well,
- 48:30Speaker 1: but in recent years I've had two that I liked,
- 48:35Speaker 1: which were Ms Piggy and Old Rose from Titanic, And
- 48:40Speaker 1: I think for me, a Halloween costume what I want
- 48:43Speaker 1: it to be is like kind of funny, and it
- 48:47Speaker 1: has to be instantly recognizable and like it gets it,
- 48:53Speaker 1: like gets the assignment. Like I don't ever want to
- 48:56Speaker 1: have to explain my costume to someone. My prerequisites for
- 49:01Speaker 1: Halloween costumes are that it needs to be sexy. But
- 49:04Speaker 1: I'm not gonna be I'm never gonna like wear a
- 49:06Speaker 1: jock strap, you know, like as like a costume. Like
- 49:08Speaker 1: I'm not that bad, but I do want it to be,
- 49:10Speaker 1: like I want to look kind of sexy. So maybe
- 49:13Speaker 1: my best Halloween well, I don't know if I have
- 49:16Speaker 1: the best Halloween costume, but I had a really sick
- 49:19Speaker 1: angel costume, like and I had these giant like angel
- 49:23Speaker 1: wings that I had to like go through the door
- 49:25Speaker 1: sideways in order to like you know, go into any room.
- 49:28Speaker 1: And I covered myself in like gold paint, and it
- 49:30Speaker 1: looked really sick. And I just like I can never
- 49:33Speaker 1: build up the energy to think of Halloween costumes like you,
- 49:36Speaker 1: And so I was that angel like for the next
- 49:37Speaker 1: four years, over the next half four Halloween. Yeah, I
- 49:40Speaker 1: think maybe that's what I have to do, is just
- 49:42Speaker 1: like decide that Old Rose and are my two Halloween costumes,
- 49:47Speaker 1: and that's what I do every year. You honestly could
- 49:49Speaker 1: wear a super duper cute outfit and then just the
- 49:52Speaker 1: pick knows and everyone would know exactly who you are,
- 49:55Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Like I feel like that's
- 49:57Speaker 1: all you All you need is like the nose, and
- 49:58Speaker 1: then you can just kind of be like cut I
- 50:00Speaker 1: either need to be like have a have a good
- 50:04Speaker 1: costume like that, or like I'm wearing black and I'm
- 50:08Speaker 1: just spooky. Yeah, I'm wearing black and I'm just so
- 50:11Speaker 1: But that's okay. That's actually a really annoying phenomenon at
- 50:14Speaker 1: Halloween parties when everyone's like, so what are you? It's like, well,
- 50:18Speaker 1: if it doesn't immediately, if you don't immediately get it,
- 50:20Speaker 1: like I don't really want to explain it to you, dude.
- 50:23Speaker 1: So this is all great advice for you virgins when
- 50:26Speaker 1: Halloween comes around in nine more months, because it's January, right,
- 50:30Speaker 1: Has Scream inspired you to watch more scary movies? Not
- 50:33Speaker 1: Scream specifically? I think that like as we said earlier,
- 50:37Speaker 1: like Jordan Peel and Ariaster and those folks um or
- 50:41Speaker 1: like The Witch, or I loved Invisible Man like this,
- 50:44Speaker 1: like class Invisible Man was really good. Okay, wait, I
- 50:47Speaker 1: didn't know that you saw it because everyone I know
- 50:50Speaker 1: hated it. I watched it. I watched it when it
- 50:53Speaker 1: was on demand, you know, like in early Quarantine. I
- 50:57Speaker 1: saw it in theaters. That was like the last the
- 51:00Speaker 1: movie that came out before COVID. I think it was
- 51:02Speaker 1: the last movie I saw before. But it was really
- 51:04Speaker 1: I mean it had like three or four endings, like
- 51:06Speaker 1: it was a long movie. But it was really good. Emma,
- 51:09Speaker 1: Emma Moss. Elizabeth Moss should be in a lot of
- 51:12Speaker 1: I mean, she was amazing. She stole a show in US.
- 51:15Speaker 1: In my opinion, I didn't love Us. Yeah, I didn't
- 51:19Speaker 1: think it was amazing, but I loved Elizabeth Moss in it.
- 51:22Speaker 1: Maybe she has like maybe the kind of like um,
- 51:26Speaker 1: the the way that scientology has like warped her brain
- 51:29Speaker 1: makes her like better at those kinds of roles or
- 51:31Speaker 1: things like that. Yeah, she's dealt with real life horror. Yeah,
- 51:35Speaker 1: exactly in a way that many people have not. If
- 51:39Speaker 1: you were in a horror movie frohim, what is the
- 51:42Speaker 1: archetype that you would fulfill? I I mean I feel
- 51:45Speaker 1: like I would die. I think I could really really
- 51:48Speaker 1: eat and drew Barrymore esque kind of like death that
- 51:52Speaker 1: like sets the tone for the rest of the movie.
- 51:54Speaker 1: And I also see myself as dying and then you
- 51:57Speaker 1: know a lot of people being affected by it. So
- 52:00Speaker 1: you're the person who dies first, and then there's a
- 52:03Speaker 1: candlelight vigil for you at the school. They're playing dancing
- 52:07Speaker 1: Queen by Aba. They've got peonies. So you're gay in
- 52:11Speaker 1: the movie. Also, well, they're not. No one's gonna cast
- 52:14Speaker 1: me as like a heterosexual, you know what I mean,
- 52:18Speaker 1: Like I'm not gonna like walk into the hormone and
- 52:20Speaker 1: be like, hey guys, I'm just here with my girlfriend Cindy,
- 52:24Speaker 1: and you know what I mean, Like like I just
- 52:27Speaker 1: I don't know any casting agent would be like, no,
- 52:31Speaker 1: let's get darn Chris for the rule, you know what
- 52:33Speaker 1: I mean. Okay, so you're you're the cameo star who
- 52:38Speaker 1: does two nights sunset Max Max um but still is
- 52:45Speaker 1: on the press tour. Yes, still is on the press tour,
- 52:47Speaker 1: still in the poster even maybe oh definitely on the
- 52:50Speaker 1: post during the post Okay, okay, okay, um. And then
- 52:53Speaker 1: maybe I also see um a really bad like flashback
- 52:59Speaker 1: or memory for me, something that like the main character
- 53:03Speaker 1: has to like, you know, go back in time and
- 53:06Speaker 1: have this like you know, there's a memory of us
- 53:07Speaker 1: together and like a I don't know, like a rowboat
- 53:11Speaker 1: or or it turns out that you like when they're
- 53:14Speaker 1: trying to figure out who the killer is, you have
- 53:17Speaker 1: some you have some connection to them, and like a
- 53:20Speaker 1: big part of the middle chunk of the movie is
- 53:22Speaker 1: them trying to figure out why you were killed, and
- 53:25Speaker 1: you know, like you were the killing. Like maybe the
- 53:28Speaker 1: reason they're trying to figure out why it's because the
- 53:30Speaker 1: main character is maybe some gay man who should be
- 53:33Speaker 1: cast It would have to be. Anyways, what I was
- 53:35Speaker 1: going to say is the main character is maybe some
- 53:38Speaker 1: closeted gay man who's having an affair with me and
- 53:42Speaker 1: then I die at the beginning, and he is trying to,
- 53:45Speaker 1: without disclosing his queerness, solve my murder. Why does he
- 53:51Speaker 1: have to be closeted? If we've learned this period film,
- 53:54Speaker 1: if we learned anything from gay movies, well we all
- 53:58Speaker 1: saw Happiest Season, a movie that felt like it was
- 54:01Speaker 1: made in two thousand two. Um. But anyways, I'm glad
- 54:07Speaker 1: you mentioned the Murderer so that we can now hop
- 54:10Speaker 1: onto where you come in in the movie, So how
- 54:12Speaker 1: do you kill everybody? Do you think you're right? I
- 54:16Speaker 1: would be the killer, but no, it would be it
- 54:19Speaker 1: would be a fake out because I would be the
- 54:22Speaker 1: sort of like snarky, um, like mean girl or like
- 54:27Speaker 1: somewhere somewhere in there who has a big death scene
- 54:32Speaker 1: I want to say in the third act of the film.
- 54:34Speaker 1: But you never see me actually die. And so when
- 54:40Speaker 1: like I have like a partner who's like my Patsy
- 54:43Speaker 1: and it seems like they're the killer, and then they
- 54:46Speaker 1: die and I walk out of the shadows, I've been
- 54:49Speaker 1: the killer the whole time. Sick. Okay, Okay, there's an
- 54:52Speaker 1: added layer to this. I feel that. Um, well, okay,
- 54:55Speaker 1: I'm presuming that your character is trans but like I no, no,
- 54:58Speaker 1: I don't want to where, no where in this movie.
- 55:00Speaker 1: I'm the closet. No, we're cut cutting that cutting that.
- 55:06Speaker 1: Um what I was kind of saying, No, that's funny,
- 55:09Speaker 1: let's leave it in. What I was gonna say. What
- 55:11Speaker 1: I was gonna say was that I don't want to foreclose.
- 55:14Speaker 1: I think you, as a transactories should be able to
- 55:16Speaker 1: play assist gen or characters. However, let's say, let's say,
- 55:20Speaker 1: if your character was trans. The whole reason no one
- 55:24Speaker 1: suspected you is because, let's say it's like hyper contemporary film,
- 55:27Speaker 1: they don't want to get canceled, you know how, like
- 55:29Speaker 1: there's this thing, yeah exactly, because they're like, oh, exactly,
- 55:35Speaker 1: there's a thing. Actually, there's a very big thing happening.
- 55:38Speaker 1: We're in Sometimes marginalized people are kind of just straight
- 55:41Speaker 1: up bad, but we don't say anything because we don't
- 55:43Speaker 1: want to be like you know, and I think that
- 55:45Speaker 1: means so my my villain character plays off of that. Yeah,
- 55:49Speaker 1: and your and and there's actually a lot of really
- 55:52Speaker 1: obvious evidence that I'm the killer, and like people keep
- 55:56Speaker 1: wanting to bring it up in the score swells, and
- 55:58Speaker 1: I just kind of give them a look like oh really,
- 56:01Speaker 1: And then it's just like, well, I guess can't be herd.
- 56:03Speaker 1: Maybe there's a point at maybe there's a point where
- 56:05Speaker 1: the gay guy is like actually does accuse you know,
- 56:09Speaker 1: where the kid actually does the gay guy who's the
- 56:11Speaker 1: like the by beard who's in love with me, um
- 56:16Speaker 1: actually does accuse you? And and you're like, um, it's
- 56:18Speaker 1: actually a really dangerous and stigmatizing trope for like trans
- 56:22Speaker 1: vengeance to be injected and these narratives blah blah blah,
- 56:25Speaker 1: and then at the end you're like, I am actually avenging. No,
- 56:30Speaker 1: I don't think I want to have any sort of
- 56:32Speaker 1: like high brow, like restorative justice type reason to be
- 56:37Speaker 1: killing people. I think I just want to be a
- 56:39Speaker 1: murderer love. Actually, I think the gay guys in Scream
- 56:43Speaker 1: say that, like they don't really have a reason other
- 56:46Speaker 1: than that they just want to kill people. Yeah, exactly. Yeah,
- 56:50Speaker 1: Well let's make this movie Love is Love coming to
- 56:54Speaker 1: a theater near you. Love wins. Love wins because my
- 56:58Speaker 1: killer does survive at the and there's no like, yeah,
- 57:01Speaker 1: without a doubt, the villain wins. See you next week, Virgins.
