- Happy Saturday, I'm Kai Rivers and this is Studio Signal — the weekly wrap-up edition, brought to you by Harkins Capital. Let's look back at the week that was. This week felt like it was all about big, risky bets. We saw it in the streaming world, on Wall Street, and even in Washington. The biggest through-line of the week was easily the saga at Paramount. We started the week with its stock absolutely rocketing up on Tuesday, jumping almost nine percent after the company confirmed that Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds were backing the massive 110 billion dollar bid for Warner Bros. Discovery. The market basically saw that as a huge de-risking of the deal. But then, just a day later, the drama spiked again when Jeff Shell was ousted as President of Paramount. That’s the second top job he’s been forced out of in three years, and having that kind of C-suite chaos in the middle of a mega-merger is a wild look. It’s a perfect microcosm of the high-stakes, high-drama world of media consolidation. Meanwhile, the other story that just wouldn't quit was the absolute monster success of the 'Super Mario Galaxy Movie'. On Tuesday, we were talking about it pulling in 16 million dollars on a Monday alone, the best Monday of the year at the box office. And by Friday, it was on a clear path to 300 million. It’s just a fire hose of cash for Universal and a massive reminder that a beloved, multi-generational IP is still the most powerful weapon in entertainment. And finally, a story that could have massive ripple effects for years to come. On Thursday, we learned the U.S. Department of Justice is investigating the NFL's media deals for potential antitrust violations. The government is essentially asking if the league's strategy of carving up rights across broadcast, cable, and multiple streaming services is harming consumers by forcing them to buy a dozen different subscriptions. Given that the NFL is the king of all media, any change to its model could fundamentally reshape the entire sports and media landscape. So let's talk about the market, because it was a week of very different stories depending on which ticker you were watching. The undisputed champion of the week was CoreWeave. This company was on a tear every single day. We saw it jump six percent on Thursday, and then it finished the week Friday by exploding another ten-plus percent. The AI infrastructure player is just white-hot right now, locking in huge deals with companies like Anthropic and Meta. It was the clearest sign all week of where the big money is flowing: into the foundational tech that powers everything else. On the other end of the spectrum, it was a brutal week for Autodesk. The stock got hammered on Thursday, dropping over nine percent, and it continued to slide on Friday. It really struggled all week, hitting a new 52-week low. And then you had Paramount, which was a roller coaster. It was the top mover on Tuesday with that massive almost nine percent jump on the Warner Bros. deal news. But as the week wore on and the leadership drama hit, it gave some of those gains back. It’s the perfect stock to watch if you want a case study in how M&A rumors and C-suite stability can swing a company's value from one day to the next. That's your weekly signal. I'm Kai Rivers — enjoy the weekend, and I'll see you on Monday with what to watch for in the week ahead.
