- 0:00And now his name is spelled. His full name is spelled Jerome.
- 0:05Do we think it's Jerome or Jeremy spelled a weird way?
- 0:09Wait, Jeremy Bruckheimer? Jerry, but like his full name is
- 0:14Jerome. Oh, Jeremy.
- 0:17Do we think it's or is it? Jerome, Jeremy or his name?
- 0:21Jerome. That's not real.
- 0:22Not a white guy. OK, next.
- 0:28What's your next one? No next.
- 0:32Hi everybody, welcome to did that age Well, the podcast that
- 0:36is, that took years off and is back at it again.
- 0:40Not really, but in the spiritual sense of we've been waiting for
- 0:46since the beginning of his podcast to talk about Con Air.
- 0:49And thank God we have Miriam Moreno here to do it.
- 0:51Miriam, welcome to the podcast. Thank you so much for having me.
- 0:53Is this a highly requested episode?
- 0:55It is a highly requested episode.
- 0:57This is part of our Nicolas Cage series.
- 1:01Of course, every episode of this show is brought to you by Spider
- 1:05Moving and Storage. We love them, don't we?
- 1:08We. I love them.
- 1:10Yeah, me too. Yeah, Spider, thanks for your
- 1:12support. And I think that if people
- 1:14wanted to know more about Spider, they should go to
- 1:16spidermovie.com. I think so.
- 1:18Don't you think so? That's a great place to look.
- 1:20I agree. So go do that and set up your
- 1:24move. Miriam, what the heck is going
- 1:27on with you? Nothing.
- 1:30OK, girl, in relation to I don't.
- 1:35I mean cinema. Cinema.
- 1:38I'm in the cinemas. And she's an AMC A Lister.
- 1:42AMC Guess what? I recruited 2 friends to our
- 1:46entourage. Well, including you.
- 1:49Yeah, OK, to my entourage. So now I have three people in my
- 1:52entourage. Wow, is it me, Jacob and Nick?
- 1:56No, Nick won't. He has Alamo even though they're
- 1:59on strike. Oh.
- 2:01Crossing the Crossing the picket line like a pig.
- 2:04Wow, Nick is so problematic. And I've always said that a lot
- 2:08of people have. Yeah, totally.
- 2:13You, man. Alamo Drafthouse.
- 2:16Boo. I've said it.
- 2:19I mean, I've said it once on this podcast, and I'll say it
- 2:21again. They used to have this amazing
- 2:24sweet potato bowl on their menu. Never heard of it.
- 2:27It was so good. I would go to Alamo specifically
- 2:30for that dish. And one day I went to a movie.
- 2:34I was having a tough day and I had been.
- 2:37I was 15 minutes late to the movie, which of course meant I
- 2:39was 15 minutes early to the movie because it was just a
- 2:42previews. Yeah.
- 2:44A woman outside said not like outside, but one of those
- 2:48workers which we support workers.
- 2:51I'm on the side of the workers. This specific person really
- 2:55pissed me the fuck off 'cause she said, oh, you're more than
- 2:5815 minutes late. I'm gonna have to ask my manager
- 3:00if we can let you in. I've never experienced that and
- 3:03I've been late so many times. And so then I had to wait like 5
- 3:07minutes for her to go get permission for me to go in.
- 3:10I go in. I'm so excited to have my sweet
- 3:12potato bowl. I sit down.
- 3:14They've changed the menu. So I order.
- 3:17I order like an Impossible or Beyond Meat burger, whichever
- 3:20one of you wants to sponsor. This podcast is the one that I
- 3:22ordered. Beef or no beef?
- 3:24Whichever 1. Whichever 1.
- 3:27And they definitely brought me a beef burger because I did not
- 3:32feel good. I shit my pants every single
- 3:35time I get a burger there and I still get a burger there every
- 3:38single time. Can't stop, won't stop.
- 3:42You can't stop her, but she is not going there right now.
- 3:45Not right now. Because guess what?
- 3:46We don't want everything to be with AQR code.
- 3:48They have that message at the beginning of their movies.
- 3:50That's like if you ever don't ever get your phone out, you
- 3:56will be there will be hell to pay of this theater.
- 4:00And then they're like, except if you're ordering on AQR code.
- 4:05Before or after? During the movie.
- 4:08That's it. That's it, that's it.
- 4:11It reminds me a lot those like pre trailer videos that they
- 4:17have kind of the the informational fear of God kind
- 4:22of videos. It reminds me a lot of the You
- 4:25wouldn't steal, you wouldn't DVD.
- 4:28You wouldn't download a car? Yes, I would you.
- 4:32Wouldn't order a pizza. You wouldn't order a burger.
- 4:37I would actually, but I wouldn't because I wouldn't go there for
- 4:40that anyway. So AMC Stubs, AMC Theatres, if
- 4:43you want to sponsor this show. Oh my God, that would be sick.
- 4:46And imagine it would be huge for us.
- 4:48If you are on AMCA list, get in the comments so we can add you
- 4:53to the Entourage if you're cool. What if you do a field trip?
- 4:56All my, all my, all my listeners who are AMC Stubs members, We're
- 5:01having a did that age well field trip to watch the drama, the
- 5:05drama for the third time. Here's the thing about the
- 5:08drama. OK, I know that's not what we're
- 5:11here to talk about. It aged.
- 5:12Perfectly in a. Week.
- 5:14I saw it two weeks ago. No notes.
- 5:16Just kidding. I do actually.
- 5:18I do have notes. And it's that we needed more
- 5:20about the characters. I didn't know anything about
- 5:23these people except for the one huge thing that she didn't do
- 5:26when she was in high school. And we're not going to spoil it
- 5:29on this podcast, but I will say that I didn't think it was that
- 5:34bad. She didn't do it.
- 5:37She. Didn't do it.
- 5:39She didn't do it. And maybe it's just because I
- 5:42hang out with a lot of like, mentally ill people.
- 5:47Like people that shouldn't have, like, guns.
- 5:52Yeah, probably. You just run the whole movie.
- 5:57I won't run the movie. All I'll say is.
- 6:02She didn't kill anyone. She didn't.
- 6:04She didn't do it. It's not a big.
- 6:08Deal. Everyone relaxed.
- 6:09The thing that that other girl did that the Heim sister did way
- 6:12worse. Way worse.
- 6:13She actually did the thing. Yeah.
- 6:14Also, I was thinking about I I've been talking about it
- 6:17non-stop, but she was just like at first she was like, they were
- 6:21like, did they find him? She's like, I don't know.
- 6:23And then she said a story and I was like, that was a lie.
- 6:27He's dead. Yeah, that guy is still there.
- 6:29His body's still there. Yeah.
- 6:31And if you haven't seen the drama, sorry.
- 6:34Oh, she was so good. Such a good villain.
- 6:36Yes, she is ever. Everyone knows her.
- 6:40Everyone knows her in real life. OK, so anyway, if you were
- 6:44skipping ahead, come back in, come on back because today we
- 6:50were, we were going to discuss another Nick Cage film today.
- 6:54And then Miriam said hold on a minute, we need to discuss con
- 6:59air. And I said you betcha.
- 7:01And I want to know why you chose this movie.
- 7:03OK I came out in 1997. I was impressionable 9 years
- 7:08old. We bought our movies on VHS and
- 7:11we had so few. I rewatched this, I'm not
- 7:15kidding you. Every other day we.
- 7:18Watched con air con air girl. Because it was like whatever my
- 7:23stepdad got and he was like Air Force One con Air Independence
- 7:28Day alien, which I never saw because I was like.
- 7:31Too scary, you said. You said that's too scary.
- 7:34If it's too scary, it's too scary.
- 7:37If it's just in the air but still within Earth.
- 7:41I'll take it. Yeah.
- 7:42Yeah, so it was a lot of like, Action Air Force One, another
- 7:46incredible film. Yeah.
- 7:48Yeah. Where Russia was the bad guys a
- 7:50lot. Yeah.
- 7:51Yeah. This one loved it.
- 7:53And the song, I think made it so much more like, I don't know, my
- 8:01cousins and I were singing it non-stop all the time, so.
- 8:04Wow. And so so you said I need a
- 8:07return to this stable of my childhood.
- 8:10I took a break because obviously you can't watch Conair every day
- 8:15of your life. You can only watch it every
- 8:16other day. Every other day, but yeah.
- 8:19I mean, I outgrew watching those movies every day, but now?
- 8:23Outgrew Conair, she said. It's too immature.
- 8:26I have to say I was nine years old when I came out.
- 8:28I did not understand a lot of the subtext of what was
- 8:33happening. Or maybe not even the subtext,
- 8:36maybe just the text. Just the text.
- 8:38Yeah, I didn't understand that, and I rewatched it for this.
- 8:42Whoa. Not for a nine year.
- 8:45Old, I tell you, I'll tell you that.
- 8:48What do you think is more inappropriate for a nine year
- 8:50old casino or go on air? I don't think any of it is
- 8:56appropriate. Probably not.
- 8:59Casino is more inappropriate, I think so 'cause Connor had a lot
- 9:04of jokes. Had a lot of jokes.
- 9:06Yeah, it was kind of funny. Yeah, yeah.
- 9:09And the drug stuff was a lot more what drug problem in casino
- 9:15I mean. Was there any drug stuff in
- 9:16Connor? No, exactly.
- 9:19Now that we saw, yeah, I mean, one could infer.
- 9:22Insulin is a controlled substance, so.
- 9:28Maybe so true, So true. Yeah, casino's way more
- 9:31inappropriate. Yeah, this is basically, this is
- 9:35basically Sesame Street compared to a casino.
- 9:38No, it's not. It's definitely inappropriate
- 9:40for kids. But I'm, I'm curious, what are
- 9:44your thoughts on Nicolas Cage just kind of as a figure, as an
- 9:48actor, as a meme, all of it. I don't know his lore as far as
- 9:54like, if he's a bad person. Sure.
- 9:58I didn't look into that. I just know he's like, he went
- 10:02broke a little bit. He took a couple rolls just to
- 10:04pay the bills. And his tombstone in New Orleans
- 10:07is paid off. Yeah.
- 10:09Which is a pyramid. Yeah.
- 10:10Which is pretty sick. Huge.
- 10:12Yeah, it's huge, actually huge. It's really big.
- 10:15You see a picture and you go, oh, OK, so it's just like a
- 10:17little thing. No, you got to see it to scale.
- 10:19It's. Giant.
- 10:19It's giant. And then he also, like, lived in
- 10:23a haunted house in New Orleans. Yeah, he loves New Orleans.
- 10:25He loves haunted. Stuff he loved, Yeah.
- 10:27Yeah. I think he did National treasure
- 10:30because it was like, mysterious, spooky.
- 10:34Like he did it for the love of. Yeah.
- 10:38For the love of, like, history and like, totally.
- 10:40Yeah. Not for a paycheck.
- 10:41That wasn't a paycheck. That was a plus.
- 10:43Yeah, totally. I do love him in National
- 10:47Treasure, of course. I do really like him, I think,
- 10:50yeah. Me too, I also love why.
- 10:53What have you heard? What?
- 10:54What have you heard? What are the allegations?
- 10:56What does he say about me? Because did he say something
- 10:58about me? I I also love Nicolas Cage.
- 11:02I love him in a way that is like both, both just as like a
- 11:07fascination and also I think every crazy choice he makes is
- 11:13so funny. And I just wish like he the love
- 11:18that he has for acting and committing to doing just crazy
- 11:22stuff makes me wish that I loved anything that much.
- 11:26You know what I mean? Like I wish that happened.
- 11:28Anything like that made me feel as alive as it makes him feel.
- 11:32Yeah. So that is my you know, that's
- 11:35why we are doing this homage to Nicage Cage.
- 11:39Yes, caged up. Does he have kids?
- 11:42Yes. I don't know anything about him
- 11:44personally and I almost feel like that's better but there's a
- 11:48lot I just can't imagine him with kids.
- 11:50I just assume he has a shit ton of money.
- 11:53He buys weird shit and that made him go broke, which it did.
- 11:57Which it did, but. Like Can you imagine being his
- 12:01kid Girl no. Absolutely not.
- 12:06Yeah, my dad has like a pyramid and.
- 12:08Yeah, Can you imagine if your your dad bought a pyramid just
- 12:12for himself and not for like your mom and you and.
- 12:15No one else. Just just kind of for you and
- 12:18you're like, so where am I supposed to go when I die?
- 12:21He's probably said it's not my problem.
- 12:24Yeah, probably. I'm out of here with my Conair
- 12:26money. Yeah, yeah, as he should be.
- 12:29So I watched the Alabama Solution a day before I watched
- 12:32this, and that was tough. It's back-to-back.
- 12:37Yeah, back-to-back tough. I watched OK, so I watched Face
- 12:40Off, then I watched the next day I watched The Alabama Solution,
- 12:46and then the next day I watched Conair and, you know, prison
- 12:53stuff. Pretty fucked up.
- 12:55Yeah, I know that's gonna be a hot.
- 12:57Take nobody's A lot of your listeners are like, no, they're
- 13:02like, we're building another prison here.
- 13:04I love prisons. Yeah.
- 13:07This movie had everything like the healthcare system issues,
- 13:13Prison Reform, veterans, veterans, diabetes, Yeah,
- 13:19healthcare in general. Yeah, sorry, that's.
- 13:22In. Healthcare also issues about the
- 13:25timeline of like when Monica Potter got pregnant but like
- 13:28whatever how did he get into? So he comes home.
- 13:31He comes home from what? From what?
- 13:34From war? I guess I don't what year is it?
- 13:37What war? What?
- 13:39It was 1997 and. He comes in on a boat.
- 13:41It was 1997, so like maybe 1990. So like maybe, maybe like, but
- 13:46then like Gulf. His.
- 13:48Gulf of War. Persian Gulf War.
- 13:51Oh, I don't know. I don't know.
- 13:54I don't know that one. I don't know every war.
- 13:59Oh, so you love war? Name every.
- 14:01War you love war you think we're we should go to war and.
- 14:04Name all the wars. I don't know what war but like
- 14:07if he was on the Conair in 97 then it would have been like 89
- 14:14because his kid was 8 right? So his kid was 7.
- 14:19His kid was 8 girl, that kid looks 6 and she, she was
- 14:23pregnant when? Yeah, two weeks before he got
- 14:27there. So he 'cause she had her stomach
- 14:30was flat as fuck. Flat as a board.
- 14:32Here's the thing. I don't see.
- 14:34Were we meant to? Were we meant to believe when he
- 14:36pulled up to the bar where she works from a boat?
- 14:40Was he literally coming home from war?
- 14:42Or was he just like in uniform for some like event or whatever?
- 14:46Like he just recently came back. It said he was honorably.
- 14:50Honorably discharged or dishonorably discharged, I
- 14:53think. Honorably.
- 14:54Yeah. Because he is the model
- 14:56prisoner, right? You know that he is.
- 14:59They have made it clear that he's not like these other
- 15:01fucking animals. He's.
- 15:03Trying to come home, come home forever, forever.
- 15:06Except I don't actually think he wanted to go home.
- 15:08He did not want his daughter to visit him in prison, didn't want
- 15:13to meet his daughter because he thought that it would be better
- 15:16to meet her on the Strip of Las Vegas with.
- 15:19Carnage everywhere. Let me tell you something about
- 15:22that. He looked disgusting.
- 15:24He was stinky as fuck. He was crusty as hell.
- 15:27Other people's bodily fluids on him and then.
- 15:30He killed them. Because he killed them.
- 15:31Yeah, at this point, serial killer, Yeah, put him back.
- 15:34Yeah, he's. Just like Buscemi.
- 15:37Also, I didn't understand as a child what Buscemi did.
- 15:41I was just like, this man is like.
- 15:43Mentally, yeah, you're like, he's kind of yeah, like he
- 15:46can't. You can't go to jail for that.
- 15:48But like. They can't make you go to jail
- 15:51for being weird. 'Cause he's not 'cause he's
- 15:56weird, right? But yeah, as an adult I learned,
- 15:59Oh, he's a serial. Killer yeah, no idea the only
- 16:04one who seems to also like have any growth in the film like
- 16:08where he didn't kill that girl and then.
- 16:11Oh no, 'cause she was waving by. She was waving goodbye and then
- 16:15also wasn't he the one at the end of the movie?
- 16:18Who's like in Vegas gambling? OK if he's like serial killer
- 16:22worse than the Mansons. Locked up carnival style.
- 16:26How does nobody recognize him in the casino?
- 16:31He's just poking holes For what? I know if you start pulling the
- 16:35thread, it's. It's all around it's.
- 16:37Kind of like a Sheen shirt. You pick it up and just one
- 16:41thread and it's already disintegrated, so you don't even
- 16:44want to touch. It Jerry Bruckheimer was making
- 16:46Sheehan level films, let it be said.
- 16:50Just let it be said. And yeah, he he did have the
- 16:55most growth. I I don't know why the cops at
- 16:59the end didn't just scoop them all up hungry, hungry hippo
- 17:02style. I didn't like that.
- 17:04I was like, what do you mean you have to like what?
- 17:07No, get them, you know, and then we get a whole another car chase
- 17:11with the motorcycle bikes. I'm getting ahead of myself, but
- 17:13it's. OK, it's hard.
- 17:14Not to billions of dollars spent on chasing Cyrus the virus,
- 17:19Yeah. Billions.
- 17:22Billions ruins the city, Okay, literally like the taxpayers are
- 17:26going to have to pay for this infrastructure and who's?
- 17:28They got was in Vegas. Yeah, honestly, honestly, yeah,
- 17:31yeah. Tourists.
- 17:32Tourists are paying for this thank.
- 17:34God, you know what I found out? They shot it at the Sands
- 17:37Casino, which they were demolishing the next week.
- 17:42Shut up. Well, how perfect is that?
- 17:44Yeah, so they destroyed Wow, you know that was gonna be
- 17:46destroyed. It was gonna be destroyed
- 17:47anyway. That's actually pretty cool.
- 17:49Yeah. I, I love that.
- 17:50It's like when they charge people money to go into those,
- 17:53like, rage rooms where there's like a bunch of stuff that's
- 17:55gonna be like, thrown away anyway and they let you just,
- 17:57like, crush it. They charge you for that?
- 18:00Yeah. They thought of the business.
- 18:01They should charge you for that. Look, they thought of.
- 18:05It Yeah, we should do that, yeah.
- 18:07One day, though. Do you consider this movie a
- 18:09Vegas film or? No, I consider this a plain
- 18:14movie. This is.
- 18:16This is in. The this is in the like the
- 18:21location is plain, even though they do go to other places and
- 18:25most of the even though, yes, like you could argue there are
- 18:32there are car chases, there are fire truck chases.
- 18:36There are you know, there's like helicopter, there's helicopter
- 18:40here, We're there. But this is really I mean, it is
- 18:44con air. It's it's the namesake of air.
- 18:48Is. So I guess air is maybe air was
- 18:52kind of the the setting all along.
- 18:55Shout out to my air signs. Yeah.
- 18:58Oh my God, that's you. That's.
- 19:00Right. I considered it a Vegas movie
- 19:02for the longest time. Would I know?
- 19:04And I think I watching it now, I'm like, it took place in Vegas
- 19:08like the last five minutes. Why did it feel so big?
- 19:12Like it just felt very Vegas. Because so much about Carson
- 19:16City in the last. Yeah, Yeah, it was.
- 19:19And they do spend a lot of time just in the desert.
- 19:21They do, you know, like they're they're just outside of Vegas,
- 19:25right? I mean, that's where they were
- 19:27in the middle of nowhere. Yeah.
- 19:28Right. Carson City Lermer, Lermer,
- 19:31They're. They're they're not that far
- 19:33from Vegas. Yeah, yeah.
- 19:35They really are never that far from their destination at any
- 19:39point in the movie. They're always quite close.
- 19:42It's hard because they make it hard.
- 19:44They really made it harder on themselves.
- 19:46That's so true. So, so Nick Cage's character,
- 19:51Cameron, right? That's his name.
- 19:53Cameron Poe. Cameron Poe from Alabama with an
- 19:58Alabama accent you couldn't believe.
- 20:01I didn't believe. It and you wouldn't believe it
- 20:03and it kind of comes and goes in this way That's really fun.
- 20:06It's too. Thick and then a little thick.
- 20:09Is that what you mean? Or like what's the?
- 20:11I mean, like, it's not consistently thick throughout
- 20:15the whole film. And maybe that's because when he
- 20:17was in prison, he was locked up somewhere else.
- 20:21You know, he's not interacting with like, other people.
- 20:23So maybe there's some sort of like linguistic thing happening?
- 20:27But he was an adult already. You don't really lose your
- 20:29accent as an adult. I don't know.
- 20:31Haven't you met people who like go abroad for a year and come
- 20:35back like Como, say D, say Madonna?
- 20:38Have you ever met Madonna? So.
- 20:42Yeah, the accent was really thick, but I enjoyed it.
- 20:45Oh, me too. There was.
- 20:46Not let me just. Say I'm gonna spend most of this
- 20:50episode doing critiquing the movie, but it is also a perfect
- 20:54movie and I loved it and I'd give it five stars and I
- 20:56wouldn't change a thing. I have to go on lettered box and
- 20:59write. Yeah.
- 21:00Heartfelt review. I really liked it.
- 21:03I was like just as enthralled as I was as a nine year old.
- 21:08Absolutely. Now some things some things did
- 21:13not age well. And that's exactly why we're
- 21:16here when you came to the right place to unpack it, because I
- 21:22think the first thing. Well, OK, let let me.
- 21:25One thing I'm very excited to get into is the twink, which,
- 21:29but we'll get there. Are we allowed to say?
- 21:32Molly, according to Brooks Marks, that's a slur.
- 21:36Remember that. That's what I'm, that's what I
- 21:38mean. I don't want, I would hate for
- 21:40Brooks Marks to listen to this. Oh my God, and.
- 21:42Then come. For us, Brooks, come on.
- 21:47Yeah, we know when Jen Shaw says it.
- 21:50And. She means a derogatory.
- 21:52She means a derogatory. I simply mean I what?
- 21:55Was her name Sally? Sally something Sally.
- 22:00I don't remember. You know what I really enjoyed
- 22:02about this film? It's a film was at the end of
- 22:07the movie, they roll credits, but they everyone's face has
- 22:10their name and their character name.
- 22:12I was like, bring that back, yes.
- 22:15I love that because in a movie like this, when you have so many
- 22:19characters doing so many things, which I mean, that's exactly why
- 22:23they couldn't give any of these characters depth beyond their
- 22:26stereotypes, is because there's just so many of them.
- 22:29How could we keep track of people if it wasn't like, OK, so
- 22:32like, there's the rapist, there's the murderer, the gay
- 22:36one, Yeah. But what are the rapist
- 22:38interests aside from raping? Totally.
- 22:40We couldn't get into it like. Is it 23 or is it 26?
- 22:44No one's Is it 600, he said. Yeah, if they they'd call me
- 22:47Johnny 600 if they knew the truth.
- 22:50What a line. Danny did not understand that as
- 22:53a child. I'll bet you didn't, Danny Trejo
- 22:55said on an episode of How Did This Get Made?
- 22:58When he was a guest, Paul asked him who, you know, who he was
- 23:04most afraid of during the craziness of that time when he
- 23:09was on con air with some of the most kooky, just the kookiest
- 23:13actors. And you know what?
- 23:15He. Said he was scared of them.
- 23:16Well, he said John Cusack. He said John Cusack.
- 23:20It's something behind the eyes, the.
- 23:21Ego on that guy, He's been famous for so long you get
- 23:24crazy. You get crazy.
- 23:26Anyway, I did kind of love that considering how many cuckoo
- 23:29bananas people. Were not John Malkovich that not
- 23:32John Malkovich? Can I say?
- 23:34Yeah. As a child he was so scary, like
- 23:37he no nonsense. Totally shoot you.
- 23:40Yeah, now I'm like kind of hot. OK, I'm afraid to say that.
- 23:46Disgusted at myself. A lot of the, a lot of the
- 23:49people who were supposed to be like monsters, I was like, I
- 23:54don't know, they're kind of hot. What about what do you think of
- 23:57the swamp? Thing, the swamp driving the
- 24:00plane. That was crazy.
- 24:02That was crazy. I don't know if.
- 24:04I'm attracted. I don't think I'm attracted to
- 24:06that, but I'm just saying a lot. Of them, yeah, yeah.
- 24:10Yeah, yeah. The hair on Nick Cage, I would
- 24:14take him any day with that hair. I know it's gross.
- 24:18It's the hairline. I know the hair itself was like
- 24:21fluffy curly but like. It starts, it starts way back.
- 24:25It's starting like you have a headband on.
- 24:27He's making up for what's lacking here.
- 24:31Yeah, by growing it out here. And we all know that that's.
- 24:34That's also how he meets his daughter.
- 24:36Didn't get a haircut. Disgusting.
- 24:37Oh my God, so true. He.
- 24:39Said I was going to get a haircut.
- 24:40I didn't know you could get haircuts in jail.
- 24:43Yeah, they have like barbers and stuff.
- 24:45Really like a prison Barber. I think, yeah, like prisoners
- 24:49can work as barbers. Oh yeah.
- 24:51They just don't get paid. I am assuming they get paid like
- 24:55pennies for the day. I don't really know.
- 24:58I just know that they definitely do have barbers.
- 25:01But it's the inmates themselves, right?
- 25:03Right. Whoever they trust with the
- 25:05Clippers, that's that's a big thing.
- 25:08That's huge. OK, so Nick Cage's character,
- 25:11Cameron Poe, he he gets into an encounter self-defense situation
- 25:19where somebody ends up dead, it's manslaughter and it he gets
- 25:24sent to a maximum security prison for seven years supermax
- 25:30for. Manslaughter attempt or like
- 25:33involuntary too? Yeah.
- 25:35But they said at the trial they were like, you know, thing,
- 25:39you're like a Ranger. You know, you're a weapon
- 25:43yourself. They say he's too powerful, He's
- 25:45a weapon himself. As if like as if the court
- 25:49system was not favorable to people in the Army.
- 25:52Yeah, a lot of these things are unbelievable in this movie.
- 25:55The stealing of the plane, like landing in Vegas, the whole
- 25:59thing. The biggest thing.
- 26:01I didn't believe a judge would go hard this hard on an Army
- 26:06person. Totally.
- 26:08That's the biggest disbelief, yeah.
- 26:09My biggest disbelief is that he didn't want to meet his
- 26:14daughter. He's like, I don't want her to
- 26:18meet me behind these in this, in this.
- 26:21Prison cells, yeah. So are we meant to believe that
- 26:25his wife also never visited him or did she just go without the
- 26:29kid? I mean there was no chemistry
- 26:32when they met up. I'm assuming she didn't go see
- 26:34him. She doesn't even remember who he
- 26:36is. Who is this man?
- 26:38Who's this man landing this plane right now?
- 26:39He. Cares more about his cellmate
- 26:43than he does about his wife and kid.
- 26:46And I'm not saying he should have left the diabetic guy
- 26:48behind, but he that's why he stays on the plane.
- 26:51He could have gone and just met back up with his family.
- 26:56Did we learn what Baby O's crime was?
- 27:00No, I don't think so. It was caring too much.
- 27:04He was being a good friend. He was being too sweet.
- 27:06OK, Speaking of being too sweet and the whole diabetes thing,
- 27:10yeah, they bond in the beginning of the film because he gives him
- 27:14a snowball candy. Illegal for diabetics.
- 27:18Illegal. And I said.
- 27:20Another manslaughter charge? Tack it on.
- 27:24That's why, that's why it took him seven years to get out of
- 27:27prison because he kept murdering people.
- 27:30He said, hey, are you diabetic? Oh, I've got a sugar free treat
- 27:34for you. Yeah.
- 27:35And they? Yeah, I thought it was weird he
- 27:38they bonded over snowballs. Yeah, he became best friends,
- 27:41baby on him doing laundry. Yeah, I love that friendship.
- 27:44That was pretty cute. I do too.
- 27:46Yeah, I do too. Aged.
- 27:47Well. Yeah.
- 27:50Are you supposed to say it after every time?
- 27:52After SO and that aged well you can, but you just have to wait
- 27:59when you do it. OK, OK, so then we get some
- 28:05like. Oh, also she's 2 weeks pregnant
- 28:07somehow. Somehow she is 2 weeks pregnant.
- 28:11Somehow she knows that she's pregnant.
- 28:13And he puts his little ear up to her belly and says, how's my
- 28:18baby girl? Here's nothing.
- 28:20They know. They know that it's a girl, OK?
- 28:25I think that's at least 12 weeks or something.
- 28:27Yeah. Stomach flat.
- 28:30Just snatched body snatched body tea.
- 28:33Snatched Pregnant where? Pregnant who?
- 28:41And so, yeah, then he gets in that drunken brawl.
- 28:44He goes, they decide, he and his lawyer decide moments before
- 28:47they go into trial that he's gonna plead guilty.
- 28:51They decide right outside of the courtroom, they say, what are we
- 28:53gonna do? And he says, got to plead
- 28:56guilty. Can't possibly fight this.
- 28:58Can't possibly fight this so he's and he's pleading guilty
- 29:02but he's in front of a jerk the whole thing.
- 29:06We won't get into minutia. OK, so OK, so he we get this
- 29:14like push up montage. He's doing push ups.
- 29:17He's doing push ups like upside down.
- 29:19He's doing push ups right side up.
- 29:20He's doing push ups off this, he's doing push ups off that.
- 29:23He's reading. He's making friends with
- 29:25diabetics. We don't see the other
- 29:29diabetics. Yeah, well, you don't.
- 29:31You don't want to know where they ended up.
- 29:33I look, I thought the Alabama solution.
- 29:36I know about deadly prisons. Oh.
- 29:38My God, he's writing letters to his kid who somehow writes
- 29:42perfectly in kindergarten and it made me think of the school
- 29:45systems now. Like kids going to 3rd grade not
- 29:48knowing how to write. This kid was writing in
- 29:50kindergarten. Saying we're going to do all the
- 29:52things we love to do. We.
- 29:56Wow. Yeah.
- 29:58So tough. Yeah.
- 30:01Wait, did you want that pillow? No.
- 30:02OK. Miriam's working on her posture.
- 30:06Leave it alone. Leave it alone.
- 30:08How? Did you do this?
- 30:11OK, so then he gets on this, this plane to go home, transport
- 30:19prisoners to transport prisoners.
- 30:22His diabetic friend is going to some other prison, right?
- 30:26And everyone else, they're kind of, you know, it's other people.
- 30:29They're all going to other prisons.
- 30:31He's the only one that's like being taken home.
- 30:34Yeah, he's like on the way. Yeah, to the drop off I guess.
- 30:38I guess so we get introduced to all of these hardened criminals,
- 30:45and if it didn't already age bad, this is kind of where where
- 30:50it starts. We start to meet some of these
- 30:52criminals. And I say that usually I
- 30:56wouldn't just refer to people in prison at all as criminals, but
- 31:00they're like criminals with a capital C They're like these
- 31:02guys. They've all got nicknames
- 31:04because they're that infamous. Everybody knows Johnny J.
- 31:08Three Cyrus the virus. Totally.
- 31:10It's like a Western. It's like it's like wanted dead
- 31:13or alive. That's kind of the vibe of all
- 31:16of these guys. So they give us the rundown on
- 31:18like, you know, all these horrible things that they've
- 31:20done and how they're just like crazy monster animals.
- 31:25And for some reason, they have like a line of maybe 11:50
- 31:33guards in between, like point A to point B, like the, like the
- 31:38van to the plane when these men are in shackles.
- 31:44Yeah. And they instead of just making
- 31:47like moving the car closer to the plane so that they didn't,
- 31:52they say no, no, no, we, we got, we got to create jobs here.
- 31:58We got to give everyone something to do.
- 31:59So we're going to have this, a line of armed guards.
- 32:02They're building worlds, is what they're doing, Wally.
- 32:05Thank you. OK, film critic here.
- 32:10So they have. It's overkill, yeah, yeah.
- 32:15So they get on the plane and we meet.
- 32:20We meet this ragtag group of guys and I just have to say I
- 32:27love John Malkovich so much. He rocks, very cool.
- 32:32He's very cool in this movie. Cool as AI don't know what his
- 32:35crimes were. He I think he was a a murderer.
- 32:41Maybe done, maybe done a lot of stuff.
- 32:43There were a lot, a lot of them. There were like they murdered
- 32:45this many people, they stole this much stuff and they did
- 32:49this, this and this. And then when we have, when we
- 32:53have like the gender ambiguous twink, sorry, not a slur.
- 32:59When we get introduced to Sally, we don't know what Sally's
- 33:02crimes are. We don't know.
- 33:04They're just like. Here's the thing to be on that
- 33:08right? But one thing that was
- 33:11surprising, though, is that they never seemed to make fun of
- 33:14Sally. They it.
- 33:17Was very inclusive. Pretty inclusive.
- 33:18Group they were like and not Sally, and Sally wears dresses
- 33:22and nobody, nobody nobody was teasing Sally.
- 33:27Nobody made her work because she had to go find a dress, 'cause
- 33:29she wanted a dress. Yeah, they're like, that's fine.
- 33:32They were like, go ahead. That's fine, you do when.
- 33:33You come back, help us if you have time, yeah.
- 33:37If if you can. Dig out the plane.
- 33:39Yeah. And she said let's offer it,
- 33:43man. They said, you know what?
- 33:44Yeah, we got it. So that was surprising, despite
- 33:47the fact that the depiction of Sally was a little bit, I don't
- 33:51know, on the nose. My.
- 33:55My main critique was that like, it was as though like, that was
- 34:02Sally's crime was just like being.
- 34:05Oh, interesting. Because it was like, OK,
- 34:07everyone else, it's like this person burglar, this person
- 34:12serial killer. Yeah, this person wears a dress.
- 34:19And can I say not a crime in some states, in some states now
- 34:251997? They were probably fine.
- 34:28Yeah, but not a crime. But you're right.
- 34:30I wonder what Sally's. I'd love to get my hands on
- 34:34Jerry Bruckheimer's telephone number and.
- 34:37Give him a call. I'd love to read Sally's file.
- 34:39I'd love you know I have a file. Love to read the court like the.
- 34:44Court proceedings? What did they tell the actor who
- 34:47played Sally? What was the direction?
- 34:49Here's the thing, I think that everybody was coming into work
- 34:52with a completely different direction because they said that
- 34:55they rewrote the script basically every day that they
- 34:57came into work. Oh, fuck.
- 34:59And so I think that every single actor came in and said, you know
- 35:04what? I want to add a little flavour
- 35:05to my character. And then would and then they
- 35:07would kind of, yeah, I think. And the and it shows.
- 35:13It's not super cohesive. You, I wouldn't call it a
- 35:16cohesive movie. Again, would I call it a perfect
- 35:18movie? Yes.
- 35:19Yeah. But cohesive, No, definitely
- 35:22not. Yeah.
- 35:24OK, so we also have Dave Chappelle.
- 35:28Kind of forgot about him, frankly.
- 35:29Absolutely forgot about him. This must have been before Half
- 35:33Baked. Yeah, before he got his own
- 35:35movie. Because that was like, what, 99
- 35:36pinball? Yeah, I think so.
- 35:39So he's pinball surprised he didn't have anything to say
- 35:43about Sally wearing a dress just saying cancel her.
- 35:49Dave Chappelle would be 1 to say something if anyone would So so
- 35:55there's there's like a this is a mixed race plate.
- 36:00This is a mixed race con air and the the racial politics on the
- 36:09plane are insane. Yeah.
- 36:12First of all, when they get to what is it, Cedar City or
- 36:16whatever? Yeah, OK.
- 36:18Carson City, Carson City, They're like, OK, look, they're
- 36:21expecting this many white guys and this many black guys as, as
- 36:27it's the only thing like the only identifier on their file is
- 36:32just like white. They're not going to check their
- 36:36faces. They didn't.
- 36:37They didn't to be fair. To be fair, they didn't they.
- 36:40Could have got some black guys in there because they were, they
- 36:44bagged them and tagged them and then they had shackles and they
- 36:47had a hand. Yeah.
- 36:50Muff. Yeah.
- 36:52So I'm like they could have sent anybody.
- 36:53They could have sent anybody after all of.
- 36:55That you had to be racist about bagging someone's head.
- 36:59You didn't have to. I'm not saying like, Oh well,
- 37:01they didn't see colour, No, they did.
- 37:03But I wouldn't you think that they would?
- 37:05No, they literally saw color. They just like physically
- 37:08couldn't see. Yeah.
- 37:09Exactly. They couldn't 'cause they were
- 37:10back. Yeah.
- 37:12So many racial digs, racial undertones, Yeah.
- 37:16Absolutely. Just you just think about like
- 37:21white people writing this and being like, oh, I can't wait to
- 37:25unleash my the racist things that I can't say my racial
- 37:30wrath. Yeah, yeah, I can't write to
- 37:32unleash racism or, you know, sometimes I'm sure there was a
- 37:37lot of improv in this movie. Kind of seems like the type of
- 37:40movie they're like, yeah, just keep it rolling.
- 37:42Between Dave Chappelle and John Malkovich, I feel like there was
- 37:46a lot of improv there. I think so too.
- 37:48Kind of funny. It's pretty.
- 37:49Funny again? Yeah, a perfect movie.
- 37:52Made me laugh. Had some really funny stuff.
- 37:57So look at that walking penis. Funny.
- 38:00And then it got less funny. But the racism but but funny. 01
- 38:06thing OK one I-1 Dick I really liked it was I don't know who
- 38:11asked PO this but he was like do you know what I am?
- 38:14He was ugly all day. Come on.
- 38:19That is so funny. Read him.
- 38:23You know what I liked? Sia Nara I.
- 38:28Yes, I screamed. I thought that was Sia.
- 38:33Nara and he still like John Malkovich, still looked cool
- 38:38doing that. He.
- 38:39Doing the corniest thing that he.
- 38:41Doing the corniest thing. He looked the coolest out of
- 38:44everyone in the movie. He wasn't cheesy, ever.
- 38:47I don't think I think that because he is such an earnest
- 38:51actor that he really like it really came across.
- 38:56Yeah, Yeah. That's the thing I also love
- 38:58about Nicolas Cage is that like he he can be camp, but he he
- 39:03takes on every role with like such sincerity, even when we see
- 39:08it as cuckoo wacky. He's like, I do this because I
- 39:10love it. Yeah, he was PO.
- 39:14Yeah. Yeah.
- 39:15He said he went to Alabama and like, spent time there trying to
- 39:19like, develop an accent, like everybody, damn.
- 39:22What part of Elm? No, can't get into it.
- 39:25We cannot get into it. Yeah, OK.
- 39:31No headset is safe in this movie.
- 39:33Any time someone's wearing a little headset, it's gonna get
- 39:35thrown. No headset is safe.
- 39:38Yeah, yeah, the. Boy and Larkin, they're just a
- 39:42mess. Just constantly.
- 39:44Oh my God. So yeah, we've got the we've got
- 39:47the DEA douchebag versus the US Marshall work.
- 39:52US Marshall. I hate when a movie makes me
- 39:55like root for a cop. You know what?
- 39:56I. Mean, but he had sandals.
- 39:58He had socks. And sandals.
- 40:00And I love John Cusack. I really do.
- 40:02I don't know. If I do, I feel nothing.
- 40:05OK, what's his other work? Who is he?
- 40:08Well, he and John Malkovich were back together in Being John
- 40:11Malkovich. I never saw much longer.
- 40:13Well, the episode of did that age well would have already
- 40:16well, by the time this is out, it will already be out in in
- 40:20current time. It'll be out next week.
- 40:23OK, OK, so so watch it before then.
- 40:25OK. And then watch the episode of
- 40:27Did That Age? Well, John Malkovich is in it,
- 40:30so that'll be a huge sell for you.
- 40:32Yeah, Is he hot? John Malkovich?
- 40:35He's. Younger.
- 40:36He's hot. Yeah, it's 99, so oh, oh.
- 40:39Around the same time. Around the same time, yeah.
- 40:42Yeah, so we're rooting for the US Marshall because the DEA guy
- 40:46is like, I'm in the DEA and I want to do whatever I want and I
- 40:51don't want to listen to a fucking nerd woke ass bitch.
- 40:56Yeah, he was. A little forest.
- 40:58He's kind of like this liberal fucking dumbass guy, but there's
- 41:03no other than him. Just like wearing socks and
- 41:05sandals and like being smart and like having a wide vocabulary
- 41:09and sort of being a show off. I don't understand where he was
- 41:13getting all this other information.
- 41:15Yeah, I will say John Cusack is the only person in the whole
- 41:20movie that knows what's going on, has a plan that was
- 41:24unrealistic too, but. What?
- 41:26That a man would know what's going on.
- 41:29Yeah, was ahead of everyone at every step.
- 41:31Like be serious. But yeah, I, I did enjoy that.
- 41:37The battle within those two, I did enjoy that.
- 41:40Yeah, totally. And I like the ultimately the
- 41:44the smarter guy one. Everyone gets their just
- 41:47desserts. Everyone.
- 41:49Yes. Johnny 23 dead.
- 41:52Yeah, Cyrus of virus dead. The DEA guy, his car is.
- 41:58Oh yeah, total. Might as well die.
- 42:00Might as well die. And then he takes it on the
- 42:02chin. He's like.
- 42:03He's like, I was going to get a new one anyway.
- 42:05Yeah, yeah, yeah. Everyone.
- 42:07Every bad guy dies. Like they don't make movies like
- 42:09that anymore. Well, the serial killer doesn't
- 42:11die, but again, was he? Was he not bad?
- 42:14He had so much like psychology going on.
- 42:18I'm like, was he? Well, I think he was, because he
- 42:23did say that he wore someone's head as a hat.
- 42:26Oh, he did. He did cross that.
- 42:28And we could say maybe he was lying, but I don't think he was.
- 42:31Yeah. And also it's Steve Buscemi.
- 42:34So of course, like, yeah, of course he he was.
- 42:39Yeah, can I say I used to skip over the scene where he had tea
- 42:43with the little girl? Oh yeah.
- 42:45He hated it OK when he OK when he was singing the song.
- 42:49They they start singing. He's got the whole world in his
- 42:52hands together. And then later when the plane is
- 42:54crashing, he's screaming it. He's screaming that song.
- 42:58And I decided that if I was on that plane and he was screaming
- 43:04that song, I would throw myself off the plane.
- 43:07I would say I'd rather die than spend my final moments listening
- 43:10to that. Is it get a better song or is it
- 43:13like his singing? I think it was both.
- 43:16OK. I think this is sort of like a
- 43:20Katy Perry don't sing. What a wonderful world when
- 43:24you're right now moment like when you're up there like just
- 43:26don't sing when you're. Ruins the vibe of the stealing a
- 43:30plane. Yeah, yeah.
- 43:33So and was it was it the song as well?
- 43:36Yes, that was annoying. But yeah, the part where he is
- 43:40like drinking tea, having like this tea party in an empty pool.
- 43:46And like the dusty. For some reason there is a
- 43:48trailer park right next to the airport.
- 43:52The airport. Which is believable.
- 43:54We live in America. It's disgusting here.
- 43:56It's true, but this is also an abandoned airport, isn't it?
- 43:59I don't think so. Oh, OK.
- 44:01Yeah, I think it. All looked, it looked, Amanda.
- 44:03Oh, maybe. But maybe that's just because I
- 44:06mean they had like an empty pool.
- 44:08Yeah. So maybe that's why I thought I.
- 44:10Think the town was just ass? Sure.
- 44:12The yeah. But I'm kind of like, OK, there
- 44:15was this giant plane crash and no adults came out of their
- 44:18houses. But the little girl was by
- 44:21herself so I'm like, was there any anyone else there?
- 44:25Was anyone else there? Yeah.
- 44:27Was she just a figment of the imagination?
- 44:30It could have been, could have gone crazy.
- 44:32Yeah, but I don't really know why he doesn't kill her.
- 44:37It's just like he tastes freedom a little bit maybe.
- 44:41Yeah, you know. But he could have killed her and
- 44:44had no consequence because. But what he kind of said, he
- 44:49liked to do it for the OR like a lot of serial killers like to do
- 44:53it for the thrill or something. Not for because of the
- 44:55necessity, but I was still like, well, why didn't he do it?
- 44:58For the thrill. Because no one would know.
- 45:01And like, part of the thrill is like maybe getting caught.
- 45:04I almost feel like that. OK, that's, that's an excellent.
- 45:08But why was he in Vegas gambling?
- 45:10Then why was he gambling and how did anyone not notice him?
- 45:13Yeah, that's a big plot hole that is now bothering me.
- 45:18And I'm so sorry. It's gonna be.
- 45:20It's certainly not the only one. It's a tough road to go down.
- 45:26OK. And then they see.
- 45:28OK, so they're at Carson City Airport, maybe not an airport
- 45:34next to the mobile Home Park. And what's his name?
- 45:38The the big guy who is kind of John Malkovich's little bitch.
- 45:43Oh. I forgot.
- 45:46OK, well, I'll just call him Big Guy.
- 45:47Big guy, It could have been Nate.
- 45:52I think it was Nate. OK, sorry everyone, I watched
- 45:55this. I watched this literally 2 days
- 45:57ago and I forgot everything because there's just a lot of
- 46:00characters. There's so much that happens.
- 46:01How am I supposed to remember everything?
- 46:03Like 30 main characters, truly. Yeah.
- 46:05So he says he sees the cars coming, the cops are on their
- 46:11way, and he says we got 10 to 12 minutes.
- 46:15How did he know that? Yeah, How did he know it was
- 46:18going to be 10 to 12 minutes? He had a guy for everything.
- 46:21Yeah, a guy that kind of can fly a plane, a guy that can.
- 46:25He's like the point person for the project.
- 46:28He was, he was a good manager. He really was.
- 46:31Cyrus A Virus was a good manager.
- 46:33A really good manager and he had everything detailed so
- 46:38meticulously. When we go into his like prison
- 46:42crawlspace thing and and they start getting out the maps and
- 46:46the, and the vision boards and the project management software.
- 46:50I mean, it's crazy. Excel spreadsheet.
- 46:54You would not believe the things that he can do in an Excel
- 46:57spreadsheet. Thank God this happened before.
- 47:00You know the technological revolution because he would be
- 47:03too powerful. He'd be way too powerful.
- 47:06Also, there was a camera in his cell.
- 47:10Yeah, and it was pointed right at that.
- 47:13How did they miss him making a fake brick and pudding?
- 47:16Whatever. You know what, As I saw in the
- 47:19Alabama Solution, prisons are really understaffed.
- 47:23Oh, there's a lot going on, too much going on.
- 47:25Too much going on. Yeah.
- 47:28And it's like a supermax facility.
- 47:30So you would have to think that they've got bigger fish to fry.
- 47:34There's a lot of other drama going on there.
- 47:36They have way too many other people to abuse.
- 47:38Yeah, so. OK.
- 47:43So a companion film to this, as we've established, is the
- 47:49Alabama solution. Yeah.
- 47:51Watch Face Off Alabama Solution, Con Air.
- 47:56OK, Yeah. All right.
- 48:00Do you think this movie could be remade today?
- 48:03Absolutely not. Absolutely not.
- 48:05People. Here's the thing about people,
- 48:08especially film critics. They they are not willing to
- 48:13suspend their disbelief. Nobody's willing to say, OK, so
- 48:18yeah, maybe there's just this random guy in prison who knows
- 48:22how to fly a plane. I.
- 48:23Heard a little show called Hijack actually no I do feel
- 48:29like not to cut you off. I'm sorry but you may.
- 48:32After 2001 not a lot of plane movies were banned.
- 48:36Tough era for plane movies. Not only that, but like Flying
- 48:41Prisoner, it's just too fantastic, you know what I mean?
- 48:45And like with that, you show hijack, a guy takes over a
- 48:50plane. We're getting back there, we're
- 48:52getting back to it. But I just don't.
- 48:54There's just too much crazy shit.
- 48:56Too much. It's just too crazy.
- 49:00I think that this, this movie, I think lives in the same
- 49:04cinematic universe as what's that movie where they're on the
- 49:09bus. It's basically like it's like
- 49:14hostages on a bus Speed. Oh, thank you.
- 49:17Thank you, Jacob. Speed that is believable because
- 49:20we have not fixed public transit.
- 49:23Oh my God, that is so true. And you know what?
- 49:25Being when they were on that plane, I said this is modern day
- 49:30plane travel, am I right? So uncomfortable planes like
- 49:35flights, regular flights now have become being on Southwest
- 49:39is con. Air Yeah, I could not agree.
- 49:41More. That's why I'm like, we can't
- 49:42make this movie. We're living this movie.
- 49:45It's a documentary. It's a.
- 49:47At this point, it's a documentary.
- 49:48That is so tough. Frontier.
- 49:51Frontier, yeah. I just feel like it's too people
- 49:57are too critical these days of things that can happen in
- 50:01movies. We, you know, we let Marvel make
- 50:05whatever they want. Why can't we have a car chase
- 50:08movie? I will.
- 50:10Say this, I think it's because Marvel, we know it's another
- 50:15world. We know it's like made-up.
- 50:18Yeah, but there are superheroes. They're superheroes, but if you
- 50:22try to make this in the real world where we live now, it
- 50:25doesn't work. That's an excellent point.
- 50:28They would have to make this. They would have to be like it's
- 50:30in the multiverse and then people would would like it.
- 50:34Like who else? What other?
- 50:36It doesn't even matter, people just love when a movie would.
- 50:40Say this is. This is in the multi.
- 50:41We just remake it and it's in the multiverse.
- 50:44Yeah, totally. We're like, which multiverse?
- 50:46Doesn't matter which one. You just add that tag and they
- 50:49might suspend their disbelief. Honestly, they might.
- 50:51Yeah, we say this part of. Yeah, totally.
- 50:54We're like, well, this is what would have happened in your
- 50:57timeline if you would have snuck out of the Army to get your wife
- 51:03pregnant. This.
- 51:04Is the Hamnet multiverse? This is Ham Hamnet Multiverse.
- 51:10Yeah, this is the other time Hamnet too con air ham heated
- 51:15that movie. Oh my God, too heavy.
- 51:17Too heavy. Way too heavy.
- 51:20Shakespeare. I got to look at my little notes
- 51:22here and see what else I've. Got going on OK, but we haven't
- 51:28said anything about oh, I, I don't know if you're like
- 51:31describing the rest of it. Poe being discovered.
- 51:35Yes, let's discuss it, Yeah. I feel like his kid is an OP
- 51:39because my birthday is July 14th, my daddy's coming home on
- 51:44July 14th. I meet my daddy for the first
- 51:47time ever on July 14th. Are you a fucking nerd who
- 51:51writes like that? Who writes like who?
- 51:54Writes like that she outed her dad.
- 51:57Yes, she did. Yeah, that was her fault.
- 51:59Yeah, kids are awful. Yeah, yeah, it was definitely
- 52:04her fault for all of it. And also the.
- 52:11The woman guard who? Danny Trejo's character, guard.
- 52:17Bishop. Thank you.
- 52:17Yeah, sorry. She's not.
- 52:19I call her a guard, not a woman guard.
- 52:21Just say woman guard. The girl guard.
- 52:24So the girl in the movie and then there's.
- 52:26To be fair, she was the only one.
- 52:29And they and Danny Trejo's character kept like.
- 52:33Will they only? Yeah.
- 52:36Will there be a crime? Will there not?
- 52:38I guess there already were crimes, but kind of his big one.
- 52:42She I don't understand why they didn't.
- 52:45I'm sorry. This does not have to do with
- 52:48with what you asked me about him getting discovered, but I it
- 52:51popped in my head and I've got to say.
- 52:52It guard Bishop, Yeah. Guard Bishop.
- 52:55Why didn't they unlock her handcuffs?
- 52:58It was like the first thing they did for a bunch of other people.
- 53:00I know, but they were all the other ones were all like used as
- 53:05bait and she was girl guard. So yeah I think they kind of
- 53:10left her there so they can all watch her to make sure she
- 53:13doesn't get raped. I'm not even kidding cause the
- 53:15other guys were like all in the back and on their knees and
- 53:19handcuffed behind them. I think she got pretty
- 53:22privileged being Wow hostage. Yikes.
- 53:26Yeah. Well then why didn't they just
- 53:27lock up Danny Trejo's character? Because solidarity with
- 53:31criminals. Totally, he said.
- 53:34Your Dick gets out of your pants on this plane.
- 53:36You're hopping off the plane. Yeah.
- 53:39He had a line. The line was no sex.
- 53:43I think it was no sex on the plane.
- 53:45Yeah. He didn't really care if he
- 53:47freaked. Outside of the plane, no.
- 53:50One's getting laid tonight. I I don't think I'd call rape.
- 53:54Laid Yeah. And you said that, not me.
- 53:58I just want everyone to remember.
- 54:00I I don't call getting laid. I I wouldn't say like.
- 54:05She wouldn't say it. She didn't say like she takes
- 54:08it. Let's move on.
- 54:09Let's move on. We respect women.
- 54:15Of course. Some of my best friends are
- 54:16women, you know, My best girlfriends are girls.
- 54:20Yeah, so true, but none of my friends are prison guards.
- 54:26A cap. A cap even guard Bishop All
- 54:32Conair. Guards are bastards.
- 54:41Yeah, I did feel bad for her, but she believed in Poe.
- 54:43She was like, you're a good guy, you're gonna see your daughter.
- 54:46Don't you wanna see your daughter?
- 54:47Yeah, stuff like that. I wish that they would have had
- 54:51just a little bit of like a little bit of a humanizing
- 54:58element to him. Like why didn't he get like
- 55:03hardened in prison? Why was why did he have no arc
- 55:07at all? He just went to he was like
- 55:10basically like he went to prison because of an accident.
- 55:14And then he is like the model prisoner, like reading books and
- 55:18giving people snowballs and doing push ups, minding his
- 55:22business, going home to his family.
- 55:26And it's like, OK and. I think that was he was just
- 55:33kind of a pick me for the system, if you ask me.
- 55:36Like, yeah, he's like, no, you gotta do your time.
- 55:39Oh, my God. This film is like prison
- 55:42propaganda. Yeah, If you do your time, you
- 55:45act right. Yeah, you will be rewarded with
- 55:48a free, free plane ride to make kiss.
- 55:52And you could be a hero and. You could be a hero.
- 55:54Yeah. Yeah.
- 55:54Because at the towards the end, he gained the trust of Larkin
- 55:59and Oh yeah, and Malloy, honestly.
- 56:02And he let him ride a cop motorcycle and be on the chase.
- 56:06He's one of us now. Are you kidding me?
- 56:09Gross. Yeah, and that's how recruitment
- 56:11works, girl. Yeah, that's what I think.
- 56:15So Poe is the villain. Interesting.
- 56:17Take. Interesting take.
- 56:19Yeah, that's an interesting take.
- 56:24I'll say it. I think that Cyrus the Virus was
- 56:28the hero. I'm kidding.
- 56:30No, I think so. I'm kidding.
- 56:32I think so. He just wanted freedom.
- 56:35He was bringing multiple prisoners with him.
- 56:39Yeah, if that's not Prison Reform, I don't I don't know
- 56:43what is freeing his. Do you know, do you think that
- 56:46in his whole like plan and the whole schema that he wrote that
- 56:51he knew that like there were going to be many casualties?
- 56:57Or do you think that he genuinely believed like we're
- 56:59all, like all the prisoners are gonna make it?
- 57:03No, he knew there was casualties.
- 57:04But I think every good revolutionary does know that,
- 57:08yeah, when you try to change the system, there will be
- 57:12casualties, absolutely. As with the French Revolution,
- 57:15as with the American Revolution, As with the American Revolution.
- 57:19Part 22025. Yeah, she doesn't know her wars,
- 57:22but she knows her revolutions. Wait, what's a war?
- 57:26No, what's what's war? War inevitably leads to
- 57:30revolution, but you think so? Yeah, War kind of incentivizes
- 57:34people to revolution. You think so?
- 57:37I, I feel that's true. I feel deeply that's true.
- 57:42And I, you could say I, I feel it so much.
- 57:45It's basically a fact. Yeah, Pretty much.
- 57:51Yeah, probably. The American Revolution?
- 57:54What was that? World War King?
- 57:57King George was paying, was charging these guys for some
- 58:02bullshit he was doing in Europe, and what do they do?
- 58:05They revolutionize. And they revolutionize and there
- 58:08was a war. But the revolution and the war
- 58:12like coincided. It wasn't like there was a war
- 58:15and then there was 1 revolution and which one begets.
- 58:18Which one? And that's the first time I've
- 58:20ever used that correctly. By the way, I'm going to look
- 58:24into this and write like a paper about it because I have a
- 58:28theory. Subscribe to the sub stack.
- 58:30I mean, God, I'm ready. Read the companion sub stack.
- 58:35Did that age well did that revolutionize?
- 58:37Well, Did. That really revolutionize so
- 58:41this was not the revolution that John Malkovich Cyrus the virus
- 58:45probably would have envisioned well certainly because he died
- 58:50but he. Didn't envision anything.
- 58:52He did not envision any of that. Yeah, but I think that he he
- 58:56probably saw some of the some of the prisoners not making it.
- 59:03Yeah, some of the lesser ones like pinball, like pinball and
- 59:09the first six that were shot in the plane, some of them were
- 59:15just, you know, totally. They were just kind of nobodies
- 59:19and we didn't know. And we didn't know.
- 59:21Popovich. I only know he didn't even
- 59:24remember him. I know he died because they were
- 59:26looking for replacement. No, that's right.
- 59:29He was on the list. He was one of the white.
- 59:30Ones or he's going to be casualties.
- 59:32Yeah, yeah, he knew the six whites.
- 59:34That's why he that's why he went through the list and marked each
- 59:38one White, black, white, black, because he said, how else am I
- 59:43going to keep track of all these guys Exactly?
- 59:45Yeah, totally. I need to categorize them into
- 59:49two Sally. Sally Latina.
- 59:52Latina. Yeah.
- 59:53And Johnny, 23, Latina. That's so true.
- 59:58OK, so representation. Representation and I don't know.
- 1:00:02Why there were no There were no Asian murderers on that plate.
- 1:00:06And where are the women? And where?
- 1:00:10Where are the women? Obviously it's like a separated
- 1:00:14prison. Well, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:18Cyrus the virus. Yeah.
- 1:00:20RIPRI. P to a real one.
- 1:00:22Rest in power, King. What else do we need to discuss?
- 1:00:25I mean, God, we, we really could go through every single thing
- 1:00:29that happens and explain why it's crazy that that happened.
- 1:00:34But I think that the listeners get it.
- 1:00:37I just think this was OK. I wrote this down.
- 1:00:42This was girl interrupted for WWE boys.
- 1:00:47Wow, huge. What do you like?
- 1:00:52And Nick Holmby, as a soon to be attendee of a WrestleMania, I
- 1:01:00just really thoughts on that girl Interrupted.
- 1:01:02Yeah. Several ladies 1 was an
- 1:01:06arsonist, one was try to kill herself.
- 1:01:09Might say a murderer. Yeah, that's what I've always
- 1:01:12said. We're.
- 1:01:13Like any you know, girl crime, girl on girl, OK, it's girl on.
- 1:01:19If you kill yourself, that's girl on.
- 1:01:20Girl crime. That is girl crime, girl on girl
- 1:01:23crime. But like, they were all just
- 1:01:25like, mentally unwell. And then we get to Connor.
- 1:01:29Mentally unwell, boys, just trying to figure it out.
- 1:01:32Totally. It's like boyhood.
- 1:01:33They're all going, they're all going through the same thing,
- 1:01:36but it just looks very different when it's when the masculine.
- 1:01:40Is a prism. Totally, yeah.
- 1:01:41There's no rehabilitation. No, I mean there was in girl
- 1:01:45interrupted. I will say that wasn't really
- 1:01:47rehab. They were just pilled down and.
- 1:01:49Totally. They were.
- 1:01:51They were just as cuckoo as when they got there.
- 1:01:54Exactly. Yeah, yeah, masculinity is kind
- 1:01:57of interesting in this movie. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:00But at least there is a there's male friendship.
- 1:02:04There is a lot of male friendship, male bonding.
- 1:02:06I OK this is so stupid. I really liked how in the cabin,
- 1:02:10when it was like Cyrus a virus, Nate, the Swamp Thing, they were
- 1:02:14all kind of like cool with each other and like plotting the
- 1:02:18landing. I really liked that.
- 1:02:20Yeah, I liked when they were, when they worked together
- 1:02:22together, when they worked together.
- 1:02:24That was my favorite. Part isn't that awful?
- 1:02:26I really enjoyed that I. Like when they worked together.
- 1:02:29I would watch a friendship short.
- 1:02:31This was in in the multiverse, honey.
- 1:02:34There is another timeline in which this is a buddy comedy, a
- 1:02:38road trip. Cyrus, a virus, Nate and
- 1:02:40something road trip. Yeah, totally.
- 1:02:42But it's on a plane. Why don't we write this
- 1:02:45multiverse and we create the multiverse that way it is
- 1:02:48believable? That way it is a multiverse.
- 1:02:50Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:02:53Something to think about. Don't.
- 1:02:54If you're listening, don't you dare take that idea.
- 1:02:57Don't you steal that. Don't take that.
- 1:03:03Yeah. OK.
- 1:03:03What else, Miriam? I'm trying to think, I think
- 1:03:07that's all I had. I oh, OK, One thing I found out
- 1:03:11it did cost $74,000,000 to make this in 1997.
- 1:03:15That's equated to $152 million now.
- 1:03:18OK, I just feel like the explosions and the plane crash,
- 1:03:22so much money spent on that. Yeah, you couldn't do that now
- 1:03:26unless you're like fucking Nolan, right?
- 1:03:30But he does one or two explosions.
- 1:03:32This was like non-stop. There were I I can't even
- 1:03:35remember a moment when there wasn't an explosion.
- 1:03:37Yeah. Even when he was running with
- 1:03:40the needle to get to, what's his name, Baby O.
- 1:03:46Oh yeah, that's. His his friend, there was
- 1:03:49explosions behind him and I actively thought of that.
- 1:03:51I was like, how is there an explosion?
- 1:03:54He's running. He's needling.
- 1:03:56With his hair flowing, his shirt busted.
- 1:04:00Yeah, explosion in the background, lubed up.
- 1:04:06Lubed up to the. Gods, I screamed.
- 1:04:09I laughed and laughed and laughed.
- 1:04:12I loved it. I loved it.
- 1:04:14I loved it. Another thing that maybe maybe
- 1:04:18we need to work on for the remake is OK.
- 1:04:21So obviously we know it's kind of a Chekhov's Gun thing where
- 1:04:25it's like the guy says I'm diabetic and we're like, OK,
- 1:04:28well, this is obviously going to come up.
- 1:04:31Annoying being. So annoying.
- 1:04:33Diabetes. I hate when people have
- 1:04:37illnesses and disabilities. It's so inconvenient, especially
- 1:04:41on a plane. Yeah, I'm just like Southwest in
- 1:04:43that way. But OK.
- 1:04:47So I'm just sort of like we didn't need like, you know, I'm
- 1:04:53a I'm a harm reductionist. Of course, in this scenario, I
- 1:04:56don't think that we needed like a sterile needle.
- 1:05:00I do believe that we could have taken, we could have taken
- 1:05:03something sharp and just kind of put it in OK.
- 1:05:06As a phlebotomist, I will say. We did bring the right person on
- 1:05:11the podcast to talk about this. The the kit broken on the
- 1:05:14ground, right? Yeah, He he said all these
- 1:05:16needles. Needles are broken.
- 1:05:18It doesn't have to be sharp. No, it just has to be new.
- 1:05:21And I'm assuming they were all in packages.
- 1:05:23They were just broken in the package.
- 1:05:25Why couldn't you just fucking do it?
- 1:05:28He doesn't care. He's going to die.
- 1:05:30Right, yeah. He's like, Oh no, he's going to
- 1:05:32get an owie. Could be a little bitch, yeah.
- 1:05:36Also, there's probably alcohol there just.
- 1:05:39Totally. It's fine.
- 1:05:41It's fine. Yeah, I agree.
- 1:05:42That annoyed me. I was like, you guys are willing
- 1:05:44to do a lot and you're not willing to break this man's
- 1:05:46skin. Let's.
- 1:05:47Name the things you're. Willing to do.
- 1:05:51Shoot prisoners left and right. Shoot US marshals left and
- 1:05:54right. Explode a plane in Vegas.
- 1:05:57Explode a plane in Carson City. Hang on to a fire truck by the
- 1:06:02the ladder handle by the one arm, Yeah.
- 1:06:06I will not, I will not stab my friend with a dirty.
- 1:06:10Needle. I will not.
- 1:06:11Yeah, which? Isn't dirty actually, because no
- 1:06:13one's used him and. That is so true.
- 1:06:17Man, fuck this guy. Man fuck him, he is a real
- 1:06:20enemy. I think baby O was a baby and he
- 1:06:24was. Being a being a little baby.
- 1:06:25He could have just been like, been like.
- 1:06:26Hey everyone just like find anything.
- 1:06:29Also, no call to action for the rest of the plane.
- 1:06:32Hi guys. Just a second.
- 1:06:34I just want to make an announcement.
- 1:06:35Yeah, I would be a villain with that fucking walkie-talkie.
- 1:06:40Oh my God, are you? Kidding me?
- 1:06:42Give me anything guys, Can you hear me?
- 1:06:46Hello. It's.
- 1:06:48I would have gone up to a. Little hot in here.
- 1:06:50I would have gone up to tires. Can you make an announcement,
- 1:06:52please? Oh.
- 1:06:53Excuse me, could you just make one more quick?
- 1:06:55Announcement Mr. Virus. Mr. Virus, I just have one more
- 1:06:59quick announcement if. Anyone has a needle?
- 1:07:01Yeah. Please.
- 1:07:03Please. Please.
- 1:07:05I know. Find it like that.
- 1:07:06Yeah. He didn't make an announcement.
- 1:07:08No, he didn't. That was the problem.
- 1:07:10There was no direct call to action, and that's how you know
- 1:07:13we're in marketing. That's so true.
- 1:07:16That's so true. If you don't have a call to
- 1:07:18action, then what the fuck was the point?
- 1:07:20Why are you crying? Why are you crying?
- 1:07:21Nobody is on you, baby Baby O, Baby O.
- 1:07:25Was that his name? Honestly, you said it and I
- 1:07:29thank God because when as I was walking in here, I was like, I
- 1:07:34don't know how I'm gonna remember everyone's name.
- 1:07:37Baby. You got it in there.
- 1:07:39I've only seen it 1000 times. She's only watched it every
- 1:07:44other day for years and until we got a fourth movie.
- 1:07:50Absolutely. Miriam, what's what's going on
- 1:07:55with you? Like creatively, what are you
- 1:07:57working on? What do you want the Do you want
- 1:07:59the people to know what you're doing?
- 1:08:04Lose my number? Don't.
- 1:08:06Don't find me. Don't find me if you see me on
- 1:08:08the street. No, you didn't.
- 1:08:09Leave me alone. No, I I run a show.
- 1:08:13Goodnight Denver. We're taking a little bit of a
- 1:08:16hiatus right now because we're coming back for August,
- 1:08:19September, October shows and but we are gonna post all of our
- 1:08:25clips and reels from the shows on our Instagram.
- 1:08:29So follow good dot night dot Denver for that.
- 1:08:33And yeah, I'm just I got shows all over town.
- 1:08:36Great. So follow me at Catholic guilt
- 1:08:38and I post all my shows on my link tree.
- 1:08:41Great like a monster. Yep, like a monster.
- 1:08:46Wait. Wait, wait, one more thing.
- 1:08:47One more thing. First of all, thank you for
- 1:08:49sharing all that. I'm gonna put everything in the
- 1:08:51show notes. OK?
- 1:08:52This is a good way to end this. So Steve Buscemi's character
- 1:08:56says that the real monsters are the ones who go to work from
- 1:09:029:00 to 5:00 every day. Until they die.
- 1:09:05Until they die and they're incapable of peeing.
- 1:09:08Getting to the bathroom in a timely manner.
- 1:09:10I thought that was weird too. So do you agree or disagree that
- 1:09:15going to being like a like an office guy or girl or them is
- 1:09:22the same as being a serial killer?
- 1:09:25100 person. Anyone who has a job, you're a
- 1:09:30monster to me. Who yourself?
- 1:09:32No, no, I don't. It's the.
- 1:09:35Same. But when he said, you know who's
- 1:09:38a real monster, I said you are. The guy in the fucking Hannibal
- 1:09:44Lecter suit. What are you guys?
- 1:09:45Who's? Screaming, he's got the whole
- 1:09:47world in his hands. Having tea with a 5 year old,
- 1:09:50Yeah. And empty pool.
- 1:09:52Shut up. Yeah.
- 1:09:53We are not the same I. Hate.
- 1:09:55I think I hate. When they do that in movies
- 1:09:57where there's like a clear villain and they're like, well,
- 1:09:59are you the villain all along? And I'm like, no, I'm not.
- 1:10:02I'm kind of just a regular person.
- 1:10:04You're the villain. You're the villain.
- 1:10:06You're the clear bad guy. Yeah, clearly.
- 1:10:08Yeah. I think that they would try to
- 1:10:10make it. That's one of the things they
- 1:10:11try to make philosophical. And it's like, Oh, no, there's,
- 1:10:13there's nothing there. Stop.
- 1:10:15I'm so sorry that actually you don't have to go there because
- 1:10:18we don't need that think that or.
- 1:10:20Need that that isn't for this. Yeah, you don't have to
- 1:10:23philosophilize. Philosophy, philosophy,
- 1:10:28philosophy, philosophy, philosophize, philosophize.
- 1:10:35You don't have to make it crazy. No, it's.
- 1:10:38You don't have to make it deeper than it.
- 1:10:40Has to be. It's really not that deep.
- 1:10:42It's literally just like people hijacking a plane pre 911.
- 1:10:48Pre 911. Pretty powerful stuff that this
- 1:10:50was pre 911. Never get remade.
- 1:10:54Look out for our multiverse though.
- 1:10:56Yeah, totally. I think OK who gets a spin off
- 1:11:00though Multiverse. So we have Conair yeah, the
- 1:11:03pinnacle of all the things sure. Cyrus Survivors gets his own
- 1:11:06spin off Buscemi yes, yeah. I wanna know what he is up to in
- 1:11:12Vegas. We get pre and post.
- 1:11:15Yes, I want pre and post versus fucking growing.
- 1:11:18I want to know whose head he wore as a hat, and I also want
- 1:11:23to know what are some of his favorite games to play when he's
- 1:11:26gambling. Where does he stay in Vegas?
- 1:11:29Follow him on TikTok. Follow him on TikTok for that.

- 1:12:58hijack a plane. Don't.
- 1:13:01Say that. Oh my God.
- 1:13:04And in jest, in jest, in kind of a ha ha way.
- 1:13:08Yeah, kind of. No, it is.
- 1:13:10Ha ha, it is. It is.
- 1:13:12It is. I'm not doing anything that's.
- 1:13:15What you're gonna do, you're gonna write Hamnet.
- 1:13:16Two. Yeah, that's so true.
- 1:13:18Back, back on the. Back on the Hamnet.
- 1:13:22Too Fast, Too Furious. Yeah.
- 1:13:25So I'll do that. And you don't wanna see that.
- 1:13:27So please, for the love of God, write a review on Apple Podcast.
