- 0:54a ministry of the Church for Life. I'm Pastor
- 0:56David. And today we turn the page to October
- 0:592nd, a day that reminds us how faith and freedom
- 1:03have always walked hand in hand. From the first
- 1:06Thanksgiving proclamation to the birth of the
- 1:08missionary vision, to the call of justice and
- 1:12angelic protection. October 2nd shows us that
- 1:16gratitude, courage, and divine guidance are never
- 1:20out of season. Let's explore these moments. On
- 1:24October 2nd, 1789, President George Washington
- 1:27issued the first presidential Thanksgiving proclamation.
- 1:30He invited Americans to pause and give thanks
- 1:34to Almighty God. for the blessings of liberty
- 1:37and peace. It was more than a national holiday.
- 1:40It was a declaration that gratitude belongs at
- 1:44the heart of government. Washington's words remind
- 1:47us that a thankful nation is a strong nation.
- 1:51Today, in 1789, the Bill of Rights was transmitted
- 1:55to the states. Congress sent the Bill of Rights,
- 1:58the first ten amendments to the Constitution,
- 2:01to the states for ratification. Freedom of speech,
- 2:05worship, and assembly all began their journey
- 2:08toward becoming law. It's a powerful reminder
- 2:11that liberty is not just inherited, it must be
- 2:15affirmed and protected in every generation. Fast
- 2:18forward to 1967. Thurgood Marshall took his oath
- 2:22as the first black Supreme Court Justice. A man
- 2:25who had fought for equality in the courtroom
- 2:27now stood as a guardian of justice for the entire
- 2:30nation. His appointment fulfilled part of Washington's
- 2:34vision that freedom and justice are gifts from
- 2:37God meant for all people. On October 2, 1792,
- 2:42the Baptist Missionary Society was founded. In
- 2:47England, a group of ministers gathered under
- 2:50the influence of William Carey, whose heart burned
- 2:54with the call to expect great things from God,
- 2:58attempt great things for God. That meeting birthed
- 3:03the Baptist Missionary Society. launching a wave
- 3:06of global evangelism that carried the gospel
- 3:09to nations far beyond Europe. It reminded us
- 3:12that obedience to God's call can change the world.
- 3:17And today, across the Catholic tradition, believers
- 3:21celebrate the Feast of the Guardian Angels, a
- 3:24day to remember that God's care is not abstract,
- 3:27but personal. Scripture tells us, He will command
- 3:31His angels concerning you. to guard you in all
- 3:34your ways it is a comforting truth even when
- 3:39unseen heaven's protection is near october 2nd

- 4:27this edition of Voices of Life. Did you know?
- 4:31History gives us more than dates and names. It
- 4:34gives us stories, stories of courage and failure,
- 4:37faith and doubt, freedom and sacrifice, and people
- 4:42who face moments that change the course of history.
- 4:45But history isn't just about what happened then.
- 4:48It's about what we can learn from it now. Thank
- 4:51you for joining Pastor David in Voices of Life.
- 4:54Until our next journey through history, keep
- 4:57asking questions, keep learning, and remember,
